You are Urist Twelfthbay, and-

>Horrifying screams come from the darkness below!

- you are the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress, which makes you a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry, but Gamindustri just made you a scrawny little-

>Horrifying screams come from the darkness below!

- okay, this is getting absurd. You let Shovel Knight get on with tracking down Tiff and Thravar, and get Therapist up and running in no time at all. First things first, you get in touch with your surrogate little sister, and as always, she sounds pleased as punch to 'hear' your voice through the telepathic link.

>Oneechan! You're back! Is Nepgear okay?

Yeah, well- it's a long story. She's fine, but you gotta run off and unfuck some fucking bullshit.

>Oh, I know that fucking feeling, Oneechan!

You pause for a moment. Between this and Nepgear's worryingly foul language, you've been getting the distinct feeling that you've been rubbing off on these youngsters.

... but you shake off that feeling, because who the fuck cares. Alright, Mojang, how bad is it? How many unstoppable hell demons do we have crawling around in the basement?

>"Um... none, Oneechan!"

... 'scuse me?

>"None! I think Doomgirl's got it under control!"

(Cont.)
>>
>>48781909
You twitch as another "Horrifying screams come from the darkness below!" sears through your mind with an urgency that's grown repetitive.

>"I mean, she's opening new routes to hidden fun stuff, but she's killing them faster than they can come up?"

Right. Well, Doomgirl's tearing it up in the cavern levels, so your fortress appears to be /technically/ safe. Either all that vaunted 'void corruption' stuff isn't being given much chance to screw up your demons, or Doomgirl's murdering them faster than it can set in. This standoff should hopefully hold for a while, and tracking down a pair of wayward, load-bearing goddesses probably takes precedence.

... probably. Hopefully.

Right now, in Hyperdimension, you've got Mojang, Doomgirl, Shovel Knight, Tiff, Thravar- and, of course, Blanc, goddess of Lowee.

You came back here to pick up some people to help with repairs over in Planeptune, but you probably COULD bring one other person along.

Given her familiarity with your stuff, Mojang needs to stay here to keep things running, unless you just up and summon some dwarf minions to pick up the slack. And even then, you should probably leave, at minimum, two people at home, just in case something goes wrong. Out in the hyperdimensional void, there's an awful lot of things that can go wrong, ranging from horrifying inexplicable phenomena to Arfoire deciding to crack your fort open.

Kinda, I still think they only need one [A1: Tiffy] but if we can vote for another one, before someone accidentally sends away our only defense against a Legion of HFS....

And for Travelling:

>[B2] [THRAVAR]

If I understood correctly she can summon stuff from the Warcraft games, Hearthstone and the MMOrbination called World of "Warcraft", including their spells. Best Utility mage aside from Blanc of them. Blanc herself should hold the fort down, especially if DoomGirl somehow chokes on the HFS.

Also, preparing for having this guy as a Torch.

Sadly, there isn't! The facilities in Hyperdimension are really basic, since Urist was focused on food production, security, and not dying from daily oceanic flooding.

She'll have to look into that later.

>>48782453
Normally yes, but "hey, half of Gamindustri's goddesses have fucked off into this door I built, but it wasn't my fault because Arfoire's fake Histoire mindfucked CPU Black Heart" would cause a slight shift in priorities.

When you think about it, as of now, 3 of the Goddesses are now out of Gamindustri, leaving only Vert and a currently unconscious Nepgear behind.

Shame that she is unconscious. I would definitely bring her in the quest to find her sis and the probably still crazy Noire.

>[X] [TIFF, THRAVAR]
>[X] [BLANC]

It doesn't take you long to come to a decision. You regularly deal with dozens and dozens of dwarves; compared to that, figuring out what to do with six people is a piece of cake. Hell, it gets even better when you realize that so far, no one here has died, tantrumed, or gotten themselves stranded on the wrong side of a constructed wall.

On the other hand, two of 'em nearly blew each other to bits and one adventurer in particular has turned hell into her own private playground, so you figure it's a matter of time.

Anyway, you turn your attention back to Mojang's telepathic link. You're gonna have to go soon, so if she can hold the fort until then-

>"I'll keep double-checking that all the caverns are sealed up tight, and making sure Doomgirl doesn't need help, so go knock 'em dead, Oneechan!"

You crack open your flask and take a nice relaxing swig. You gotta admit, Mojang really is a good girl.

"Urist. You wanted these two clowns for something?"

The goddess of Lowee, representative of all things Nintendo, and ruler of her nation by divine mandate walks toward you, dragging over Tiff and Thravar by their collars before dumping them unceremoniously at your feet.

Between the two of them, they have, at most, one lucid consciousness. Probably has to do with the big ol' lumps sprouting from their craniums- which is impressive, seeing as the Team Fortress's got her hardhat and Warcraft's sporting that horned helm of hers.

"They keep fighting," Blanc explains calmly, "and I have had enough of their shit. You're dumping them back into Gamindustri?"

Eh, not quite. They need to fix up Planeptune, because-

"Oh, god." Her gaze goes half-lidded, and you feel the weight of centuries behind that knowing exasperation. "What did Neptune do now, and is Nepgear alright?"

Actually, it was Noire.

Blanc opens her mouth. A moment later, she closes it again. "... you'd better start from the beginning," the goddess deadpans.

(Cont.)
>>
>>48783464
You sigh, scratching your head as you mentally sort through everything actually relevant to that whole CPU Black Heart debacle. Okay. So Noire came zooming in, see, and-

As expected of the goddess of Lowee, Blanc's expression barely changes as you give her the lowdown, the bullshit Histoire twist, and then that part where you justifiably used an unstable, physically impossible artifact to atom smash an evil clone and accidentally discharged all of Noire's bizarro shares into it to create a wormhole to who knows where, and-

Armok help you, you desperately need to get involved in things that DON'T sound terminally insane when you have to describe them to others.

"Okay. Here's what we're going to do," Blanc eventually says when you're finished. She walks back over and effortlessly drags Tiff and Thravar back up to their feet, ignoring how they and their armor weigh three times as much as she does. "We're dropping these nerds off in Planeptune, where they'll actually be useful. And then I'm coming with you to hunt down Noire and Neptune."

Wait, really?

She shoots you a /look/. "If Noire's still insane, she'll beat Neptune half to death- her armor was already obsolete, and whatever CPU Black Heart packs sounds like next generation stuff," Blanc explains. "So you'll need my help. If Noire ISN'T insane, then she's got information I need about that fake Histoire, and besides, those two idiots still couldn't find their way out of a paper bag."

The peace between Gamindustri's nations is probably genuine and all, but you're guessing that Blanc's opinion of her current rivals/former enemies hasn't changed all that much. Then again, you can't fault her 'cause Neptune IS Neptune.

You say your goodbyes to Shovel Knight and hop back through the portal with Blanc (who's still dragging Tiff and Thravar). The first thing you see when you're back in Planeptune looks like some kind of goddamned art gallery presentation around the Dutiful Chastity and OH FUCK.

"- w-when we, tag-teamed Urist," Rokko explains, her dull, droning voice perfect for this sort of thing. "B-Back on the coast, across from L-Leanbox."

Estelle has her sword embedded in the ground, and she's... doing what appears to be warm-up stretches. "Now THAT was a legendary event right there," she sighs gustily. "Things were simpler back then!"

"... didn't you just say it happened a few days ago?" Iffy retorts, peering at the masterwork engravings with a sort of perturbed, reluctant fascination. "And- wow, THAT'S lewd. Didn't think that shorty had it in her to record all this- oh, hi."

OKAY NO TIME TO WAIT HERE'S YOUR GODDAMNED HELP, you roar, voice cracking, and you grab Tiff and Thravar before hurling them at IF's feet in a red-faced huff. C'MON, ASSHOLES, WE'RE GOING.

"Whaaat? We were getting to the best OOF." Estelle barely has time to grab her sword before you plant your boot against her ass and shove her through the portal.

"W-Worth-" The Blue Bomber follows soon after, totally and completely unassisted by you shoving her through as well.

You don't really have to do anything about Blanc- she promptly stops rubbernecking at Planeptune and transforms into her battle mode in a burst of light, her massive warhammer twirling into existence as CPU White Heart hefts its considerable weight. "Those dumbasses have better not moved from wherever they landed," she snarls before going in.

The last thing you see before jumping through the Dutiful Chastity's weirdo shares-charged portal is Tiff and Thravar climbing to their feet, only to be dragged off by Iffy while complaining in their country twang and orcish accent, respectively.

And then-

>...... yup

Now, see, you'd had yourself mentally prepared for any number of godawful situations.

For instance, you could've been dumped into a particularly empty part of the hyperdimensional void, or onto an endless barren wasteland. You could've ended up in some glitchy backwater, or an infinitely looping realm that instantly turns everyone inside-out.

Instead, you find the fresh spring breeze caressing your cheeks before you unceremoniously faceplant against honest-to-Armok grassy loam.

Cursing under your breath, you clamber to your feet and ready your weapon, glaring wildly at your surroundings because SOMETHING'S gonna go wrong and charge up here and make a spirited attempt at kicking your scrawny ass-

All you hear is birdsong, and the wind whistling across the plains.

You lower your weapon suspiciously, waiting for the other shoe to drop as you take in the view. High above, blue skies go on forever into the horizon, dotted with the occasional fluffy white cloud, all of the same shape. Rolling vistas of perfectly green grass stretch out before you, and even the occasional patch of forest looks picture-perfect. Far in the distance are countless verdant plateaus, waterfalls streaming down their sides, all similar-looking yet infinitely varied.

And then it hits you- none of your party members are within sight or hearing range.

Desperate, you close your eyes and- nope, Therapist doesn't even seem to work properly, fuzzing in and out of focus.

Shit.

You are all alone.

After staring blankly at your surroundings for a few moments, you sit down and try to gather your thoughts.

... you don't have a lot to go on. Still, when you have no damn clue what's going on, you might as well fall back onto your tried-and-true instincts.

The FIRST thing you do is look up into the sky right above your head, and you strain your ears for any sound of Neptune plummeting down from the heavens. Seconds pass, and thankfully, you remain thoroughly un-Nepped.

Okay. The /second/ thing you need to do is get into a fortified position. Oh, sure, you're technically as much an adventurer as a fortress builder, but when there's no one else around for miles, you'd damn well better default to the latter mode if you don't want bogeymen ripping your entrails out through your damn asshole.

As you chop down trees using your axe-melded liquid metal gauntlets, you realize just how long it's been since you were so completely and utterly alone.

Just weeks ago, you'd have felt nothing but bliss at the prospect of being separated from Gamindustri, pure and simple. No moe personifications to be all cutesy at you, no one to judge you for eating kitten biscuits or locking babies into danger rooms to train their physical stats, no one to drive you abso-fucking-lutely bonkers.

You put the finishing touches on the wooden drawbridge and step back. A wooden hut stands before you, hiding a one-room bunker that's fully lockable from the inside. If something awful approaches, you'll be perfectly safe.

... you hug yourself, suppressing a shiver. Honestly, you thought you'd love being alone like this, or at least be OKAY with it. Now, though...

Ugh. You shake your head with a growl, your braids thumping against your back with the motion. C'mon, Urist, get a fucking grip. Focus on the present.

Right. You can't hear or see your allies, and even Therapist isn't responding- either you're too far away, or there's some sorta dimensional fuckery going on here. You're gonna bank on the latter, not because of any logical thingamajiggy, but because you're absolutely fucked if this weird plane is just too /big/ to traverse.

Time to make a landmark.

More ageless trees die to feed your dwarven avarice, beautiful plants standing tall against the passing of millennia- all cut down in an instant and reduced to naught but baubles. With the wood logs handy, you start crafting a small tower outside your hut, focusing on piercing z-levels rather than making actual floors or walls.

Through it all, all you hear are chirping birds and more wind blowing all over the damn place. It's enough to drive you-

>Urist Twelfthbay cancels construction: Throwing a tantrum.

The Dragon Warrior slows to a stop, frowning thoughtfully. She tilts her head to the side, straining her ears to see if she can't catch that noise again and- yes, there it is-

>"- aaaaaaaaaah! Waaaaaaah! Estelle! Big sis Esteeeeelle! Where is everyone!? Aaaaaaaah!"

Despite their situation, Estelle has to cover her mouth to suppress a snort. Then she strides forward with a shit-eating grin on her face, drawn by the siren call of a little sister in need.

>Urist Twelfthbay has calmed down.

After an indeterminate amount of time, you come back to yourself with a start. Now THAT was cathartic.

A quick glance around confirms that miraculously, your fiery temper tantrum of endless rage didn't ruin absolutely everything, so you wipe your face and get the fuck back to work.

You just about put the finishing touches on the basic structure of your wooden tower, and start brainstorming about how to access the magma sea to pump lava up to the very top, when you realize that you're... kind of being watched.

Fuck. There it is- from the underbrush over there, you can hear rustling leaves and some sort of mechanical-sounding low-pitched whirring sound. It's too low to the ground to be anything human.

This might actually be the first time I've drawn that kind of pose - I had to spend a day or so studying the google image search results for 'anime girl butt' to figure out what the hell I was doing.

As a result, you can now say that your work has been the sole impetus in one drawfag's journey to learn how to draw butt.

>[X] [CALL OUT]

You squint at the damn thing. Mechanical whirring noises, low profile matching someone lying against the ground, yet large enough to rustle ineptly through leaves...

If you were a betting dwarf, you'd peg that as Rokko using her built-in camera to sneak in pictures of you.

Seriously, the one thing you'd learned about the Blue Bomber is that she has the worrying tendency to want to commemorate you making a total ass of yourself, under the flimsy excuse that you're "cute." You don't know WHY, and you don't know if she was like this when she was all lively and not-screwed-over (though you vaguely remember Blanc mentioning something to that effect).

... but you can't be 100% sure it's her.

Taking a deep breath, you back up until you're leaning against the entrance to your wood hut, ready to dart back inside at a moment's notice. And then you just- call out, listing out the following announcements:

- You aren't tasty.
- You aren't worth the trouble to kill, murder, loot, and burn, not necessarily in that order.
- You come in peace, though you have no fucking clue where you've actually come /to/.
- You're only looking for your friends
- If it was Rokko all along, you're gonna kick her ass so hard she'll be able to use her own head as an extra life.

You pause, waiting for an answer, or some reaction, or- /something/.

>PASSED

Seconds pass. There's an odd tension in the air as whatever it is considers your words; a bead of sweat slides down the back of your neck, you feel your muscles tense up, and you resolve to abso-fucking-lutely murder Rokko if it turns out she's pulling your leg, holy hell-

As it turns out, it's decidedly NOT Rokko.

For a moment, you're not exactly sure what you're hearing, as the mechanical whirring fades into something else entirely. Then you realize you're not actually hearing ANYthing, at least not conventionally. It's... some sort of strange melodic sensation that not only defies any sort of sense you have, but seems to bypass your ears and sink straight into your mind.

The noise starts with a deep, tense, electronic thrumming that briefly sparks into something higher and airier, before fading into a tone that puts you more at ease, like you've passed some test, and- and-

Armok help you, you can barely describe it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg0BvV0HE4s

So here you are, standing like a slack-jawed idiot and staring at a patch of undergrowth that's singing at you. You're so entranced in trying to decipher the noise that you lose track of everything else- which is all well and fine until something on a tether fires out with disturbing speed, wraps around your ankle, and pulls you flat on your back with enough force to knock the air from your lungs.

You scramble back to your feet, ready to kick the thing's ass until you realize it saved yours.

Embedded in the wall, right where your head used to be, is a bunch of goddamn sharp-edged /polygons/, still vibrating from the impact, though they fade as you watch. Your erstwhile savior dives out of the bushes and oh god, it's a living plastic rectangular flattened gray box what the actual HELL-

The mechanical thing doesn't appear to have legs, or joints, or any ability to bend its body, it's just... a flat box.

And it stands in front of you, facing the forest.

(Cont.)
>>
>>48786863
Technically, I don't think it reflects on Rokko. There was mention earlier she was after someone who took something from her, which is why she is how she is, and a missing heart.

So we can envision Mighty Nina as a shitty Frankenstein powered by Arfoire. Which explains a lot, really.

Up in the forest's canopy, leaves flutter to the ground as a trio of small light purple- ovals? pop out, silent in comparison to the first box's whirring. More 'music' fills your head, and there's something almost cheeky in their quick trills.

You barely have time to duck before their- there's no getting around it, their /screens/- glow with a hellishly white light and fire another barrage of polygons. The gray box's tether tightens around your ankle, ready to pull you again, but you're ready this time. Working on reflexes alone, your gauntlets morph into a classic dwarven axe even as you raise your hands, and you almost contemptuously bat the projectiles away, where they dissolve into nothingness.

In front of you, the gray box- there's a stylized "PS" on its 'head'- swivels on one corner to look at you, though you can't read the expression because it has no fucking face, what the hell.

Fine. Whatever. You snort, glaring up at the cheeky little phone-abominations. Sure, you know absolutely nothing about this place, and you... kind of feel like your tenuous grip on reality is about ready to give up the ghost. But if that's all these assholes got, then maybe- just maybe- this won't be a hard fight.

You got this, Urist.

But seriously, what the HELL.
