There's a bit of a "misunderstanding" when the girls want to change into sleepwear, and you and Jimmaru just want to crawl into your tents around the fire, but they don't want you nearby. After that snafu, you all settle into your tents and fall asleep in short order.

The next morning finds you in another jumpsuit, this time a stylish indigo, and the others in similarly similar outfits of a similar style and different color. It also finds Hōōmaru-sensei carrying the blinded Hakurin bridal-style through the trees. When you get the main road you'll be travelling via from now on, the Hyuga mumbles something about needing help being led.

You’re not sure how she got them, but the guards seem to accept your ruse and let the four of you through. Once you’re out of earshot, Hōōmaru-sensei tells you that the passports were genjutsu’d, and are really just menus from your mother’s restaurant. After a celebratory high-five all around, you resume walking with periods of chatter interspersed with more-or-less silence.

You come across the vast span of Kanabi Bridge, and sensei immediately stops the group. You see blood splattered across the bed of the bridge, a toppled cart, with goods scattered about, and three youths. The girl has straight black hair, if a bit messy, and is sitting on one of the bridge's railings, resting her eyes. The boy with curly brownish hair is standing over the cart, facing away from you, a large sword with blood on the blade stuck in the deck next to him, it looks like he's looking at something in his hands. The third one is wearing some sort of robe and a rice hat, obscuring their appearance from you, he's the closest, leaning on the railing facing the road you're approaching on. If they've seen you, they haven't indicated it.

Just as sensei tells the three of you to hang back on the road, the robed figure speaks up, apparently male. "If you have nothing to hide, just pass, we've got what we came for." The other two haven't made it clear if they've noticed you yet, but you have an inkling that they have.

Hōōmaru-sensei's expression is hardening. And for some reason the girl is flicking Jimmaru's cowlick, studying it intensely.

You decide that it would be best to go after the boy with the hat, he looks the least ready for combat, and unlike the other two, doesn't seem to be wearing a particularly combat-ready outfit. You decide to detach yourself from the front with Hōōmaru-sensei, and you launch yourself backwards with shunhin. Your fist impacts the boy, sending him sliding across the surface of the bridge. You here Hōōmaru-sensei yelp in surprise, but have no time to look back, as you continue to pummel the boy with your blows.

You're aware that Jimmaru is engaged with the girl, but Hakurin is somewhere out of your line of sight. You knee the boy in the chest as he tries to form hand seals, not letting up to prevent losing your initial advantage of surprise. As you're about to deliver a powerful uppercut, hopefully to knock him out, you feel the hair on the back of your neck stand, and you shunshin backwards out of the way. The boy with the sword is standing in front of you, and the boy with the hat has been knocked onto his back. Jimmaru appears to be caught up in a vicious duel with the girl, him wielding two kunai, and her a chokuto.

"Yo," you hear the boy with the sword for the first time, "you okay, Jensho?" the boy with the hat gets up, now sans hat, and you can see why he was able to see through your deception so easily. He affirms, that he is, indeed, okay, even though your beating was harder than the one you gave Hakurin yesterday. But then again, that straight red hair and pasty skin gives away a lot. Hakurin is back from fruitlessly looking over the side of the bridge and is now trying to decide who to back up.

You then realize that your eyes are closed, and feel like you've been asleep for hours. But whatever you're laying on is softer than the pillow that comes with your bedroll. You feel something tap your face lightly and instinctively slap it away. But it keeps going, seems like it won't stop till you open your eyes. Oh, it's Hakurin's hand. And she's staring at you. And you're laying in her lap. You immediately sit up and apologize before realizing that it's nighttime, her head is bandaged, Jimmaru is sleeping behind her on a bed roll, stomach bandaged, and a singed and tired looking sensei is tending to the fire. Also, you feel a terrible pain in your calves.

When you ask for an explaination, Hakurin immediately gives one, including what sensei told her:
When the three of you began fighting the other team of genin, the girl apparently activated a powerful genjutsu on the three of you. Jimmaru wasn't caught for too long, but that didn't prevent the redhead from running him through with his sword. And when Hakurin came to, the sword-boy bashed her noggin with the blunt side of his heavy implement. You apparently looked into her eyes the longest, and only now awoke from the genjutsu. You decide, that after that... experience. It would be in your team's best interest to get a little rest in, and offer to treat everyone to a stay at this hot spring, at least for the night. You can make it to Iwa tomorrow, especially with a good rest. Unsurprisingly, your team all agrees to this. You do find out one thing when attempting to enter the bathing area. In the Land of Earth, hot springs and bath houses are coed. When you ask an attendant about this, he inquires if you're "one of those Kumo boylovers, not wanting to bathe with women?" After that, you decide to take turns in the bath, as the only guests bathing at that time, and to give them a terrible review and ask your mother to snub them. Being high up in the business of hospitality can have its perks.

After the girls are done soaking, you join the awfully quiet Jimmaru in the hot spring. When you engage him in conversation, he spills everything to you. And wow, it's pretty heavy. You feel bad for how poorly the Branch Family of the Uchiha is treated by the Clan leadership when he tells you about his background, but he largely glosses over that. What he says he's most ashamed of is falling to a genjutsu, especially one cast by a foreign sharingan. He also mentions that clan leaders estimate that there are only a dozen or so Uchiha outside of the Clan and Konoha, and how unlucky he is to have been beaten by one.

You ask him why he's not sleeping in the doghouse, before you both fall into a much-needed sleep.

The next day, you make it to Iwagakure, an impressive village built among the towering stone monoliths of the area. Hōōmaru-sensei goes to deliver the mysterious package, and checks your team into a cheaper hotel for a day or two.

You look around the village, travelling with Jimmaru. Hakurin is understandably tired and irritable, considering her head injury. The two of you talked about training earlier, and come across the Iwa Academy's sparring rings while the Academy itself isn't in session. Because of your (admittedly lighter than first thought) injuries, you fight at less than half strength, but get a good gauge on Jimmaru's fighting style. When you're done, you make the Seal of Reconciliation, and he heads off back the hotel, saying that he would have gone with sensei if he had wanted to shop.

Sadly, nothing jumps out at you in the marker. You figure you all have the hairpins, and they mean something, but you want some kind of trinket, you guess. After a good deal of futility, you make your way to Iwa's (disappointing, but strangely calming) answer to Hokage Mountain, Stone Monument. Looking at the unremarkable rock on the pillar, and serene waters beneath it, you feel incredibly calm. So calm that you don't notice the woman behind you until you see her reflection in the water.
