/tg/ - Traditional Games

Stage 129: It Begins.

You are running.

You really didn't think you would ever be running towards a direct confrontation with a sorceress who has the ear of Oba-chan, can direct the Twin Warlords, and has an intensive spy network of her own, but there you have it. After a fight that would have had everyone except maybe Kiku-chan screaming in terror and yelling at you to stop trying to kill one another, you and Akari held one another tightly. You dried her nonexistent tears, and she composed herself then went back to the bedroom. She's asleep now, though it took her a little while.

You didn't promise to run if things got troublesome though.

You have a few vital decisions though. Most of the important ones concern food and fighting.

[] Collect a pair of fish.
[] Collect a pair of ducks or geese.
[] Head to the actual trap.
[] Head to the obvious trap.
[] ….stop by Chisato's place.

Gendai-no-Muteki-no-Buki - Invincible Weapon of the Present Age, a secret kami-blade given to Ryukusa by Wakaba that appears to be made of some alloy of titanium.

Seido-no-Shinpi-Tekina Ken – a mysterious bronze sword given to Ryukusa by the mermaids of Japan.

Go-Yūrei-no-Rensa, the Five-Ghost-Chain, used to summon or send messages to your (actual) older sister Ryuu Nabiki.

Her Penthouse in the Secret Apartments of Tsathoggua in Shikoku prefecture, Tokyo.

So far so good.

Is there an etiquette thing on fish or fowl? LIke I assume the word Ryukusa used is appropriate for both animals, and the difference in preparation seems negligible for someone of her talents.

We don't have to kill them on site, do we? If we do change this to the fish, can't have them squawking and waking people up.

>A pair of tabby cats would be even more symbolic, but Ryukuza herself would hesitate killing a cat while she carries so many cat youkai.

>>48865943
But yeah, from where I'm sitting this doesn't really seem like the smartest thing to do to escalate things with clan Ryo right now, since while we can do this meeting because kami-enforced promises can trump our orders with the Jade Emperor, I don't think it protects us from the fallout of the meeting so it seems like Clan Ryo could start being more aggressive while we're busy fighting Chinese Devils.

However, I don't think Ryukusa would consider this as an option if it didn't have benefit, so there's probably something I'm missing.

Wait, so from the last thread
>You look over it carefully, seeing where the most likely locations she is, her flunkies are, the best locations for traps, and the best baited traps that already exist might be. “If I were her, I would be here.” She points at a low income neighborhood with various Clan Ryo holdings nearby but not actually part of them. She has family relatively near there and there are bodyguards assigned from Ryo to them according to Akari's legend. “It has the only active cell phone under any alias she's ever used, and that one was her training name.”
So that place is not where Himeyuri actually is, and we figured it out, or it is but we're not going for it? I guess I should just figure that it's handled, but I'm still kind of confused.

[X] Head to the actual trap.
[+] Let's be wicked....

Making the leaps you can and running hard means very few people notice you, and when they do they're usually too confused or surprised to actually track you before you're already too far away and hidden. The large part at the edge of Shinjuku has several ponds in it, and you dive in at speed and come up with a pair of large, heavy, and very old (although not even close to a decade old) koi, their gold and pearl scales glittering in the moonlight. Pausing in your headlong travel to make a momentary barrier to keep them in, you ensure their safety and health, flooding it with the brackish water they prefer.

It's always creeped you out a little to see how clean people tend to keep their aquariums.

You consult Akari-niji-chan's map inside your head, and then take to the air again, using the skyscrapers of Shinjuku to head towards the residential and wealthier section of Shidome in Minako ward. The new constructions are glistening and not yet entirely populated, making it an ideal place to hide. Or set up an ambush for someone you want to kill, especially if you plan on locking them into a Barrier so that the damage is minimal until later, when the collapse of a building on land reclaimed from the delta is more easily dismissed.

The fact that the building just happens not to belong to Clan Ryo, but an unassociated human Yakuza group (not Chisato's, you had Akari check) is undoubtedly no small coincidence. They're definitely taking you seriously. It's also some distance from Chiyoda, which is where Ryuu Himeyuri actually is, unsurprisingly. Chiyoda is where the Diet, the Palace, and a number of sacred (and one profane) shrines are would be a place no sane dragonette would go to pick a fight.

You suspect you haven't been sane for some time.

But you're not planning to pick a fight with Himeyuri. In fact, you're not planning to pick one here. But it is good sense to see who and what they have watching this location. Even if you only get an idea of what they are planning to array against you, it would be time well spent. Of course, springing the trap would be a terrible idea; you do intend to be back in bed before sunrise, Barriers or not.

You sigh when you catch sight of the time on one of the billboards on a newly completed building. You only slept three hours. It's not even 1:00 am.

[] Take your time and circle the ambush sight and see what you can glean.
[] Sneak into the trap and study it from within, so to speak.
[] See if you can actually catch sight of Himeyuri's double and her bodyguards.
[] Abscond with one of the backup warriors and gather intel that way.
[] Slip through entirely and leave a trace of passage on purpose.

I kind of feel like snatching someone and leaving a trace of our passing is accelerating things too much, however it seems possible that Clan Ryo is unprepared enough for how far we've grown that we can study the trap from inside and not spring it? Like I don't know, it doesn't make sense for them to underestimate Ryukusa, but has she grown to a level where plans don't even matter anymore?

Not really sure about three votes but
>[] See if you can actually catch sight of Himeyuri's double and her bodyguards.
I feel like that's helpful because it might let us know who isn't actually guarding Himeyuri, I'm assuming Ryukusa has long-since memorized every member of clan Ryo she's aware of.
>>
So are we planning to head straight to Himeyuri after we've done some light recon here? Hope they don't notice we were around until we get to her and such?
>>
>>48867077
That's what I was generally thinking, but it depends on if we discover anything after looking around here first.
>>
>>48867096
True, but what are we actually going to, well, do there? Our Promise kinda started off as her being asleep and not wanting her to wake up, at this point neither of those seem very likely, but maybe she can still manage to sleep with the threat of Ryukusa hanging over her. Not sure how this is gonna end up going down.
>>
>>48867148
Yeah I'm not really sure what Ryukusa's plan is, and I'm almost completely certain that we the players don't really have one.

Like we kind of want Himeyuri to change sides or at least just find a way to stay out of this, but fully expect her to do something stupid and dangerous instead, and this is the first time we're taking the conflict to clan Ryo instead of just dealing with their shit.

Like the ultimate goal I think is we need to make sure they won't get in our way when we kick Enma out of Japan.
>>
>>48867224
Well to be fair we're doing it because she 'forced' us to make a promise, and now said promise is forcing Ryukusa to act. Not the ideal time to make a move against Ryo really.
>>
>>48867239
Technically the only reason we're doing this NOW is because Ryukusa is still having trouble coping with her demigod nature being really intolerant to inaction and unfortunately that includes sleeping.

Like I don't think we ever gave ourselves any particular deadline, and I'm not really sure we'd be breaking laws if we turned back now though after that whole talk with Akari I think we probably do need to follow through.
>>
[XX] See if you can actually catch sight of Himeyuri's double and her bodyguards.
[X] Take your time and circle the ambush site and see what you can glean.

The location where Himeyuri has supposedly been take to protect her is not an easy building to infiltrate. Rooftop access, of course, delivery entrance, front doors. It's a business building, a legitimate one, so they have their own night security and front desk people. Offices for the most part, which of course makes it easy to hide a person who can create legal and verifiable business with which to rent an office space. Naturally it would be towards the center of the building, because they don't want to make it too easily infiltrated, but not in a heavily secured area, which would 'scare you off' if you were going to hunt down Himeyuri.

Of course, all this effort means that Oba-san and Himeyuri discussed your promise and what it would mean for her. As you circle the buildings which circle the target building, you switch from one form of Eyes to another, using them all and getting used to switching between them quickly and effectively. The information and utility of each type of elemental force is quite different and in some cases useful and in others hopelessly useless. Stone Eyes turns out to be a great deal more effective in the city than you thought, while also having some serious drawbacks – for instance, being unable to see the asphalt or concrete around you or even that you are walking on, or literally seeing through glass as though it were air (potentially embarrassing, that).
>>
>>48867425
Still, being able to see through said concrete, glass, and stone means you can spot people hiding in unusual places, like the Stone dragonette hidden amongst the piping and ducts of the target building, or the Fire oni-child hidden in a panel cut into the walls of a building where you could have a good vantage point on the entrance of the actual target building. Void Eyes tells you of their relative spiritual strengths, as well as revealing which ones are sorcerers or priests, and how bad the feng-shui of this area is in general, something which is undoubtedly meant to annoy and trouble you as you conduct an infiltration.

You come up with a rough estimate of their forces by slipping in and out of the area around the target building – eleven oni-children and dragonnes and dragonettes, aside from those actually in the rooms with “Himeyuri”. There are many places where you can't actually look, but the movements and positioning of the others gives you information on their allies, as does Water Eyes. Fire Eyes are unsurprisingly unhelpful in this situation, while Wood Eyes would only be useful in dealing with one person. All in all, it is good practice, but that's all it is – practice. Slipping into and out of the circle of buildings helps too, but entering the target building is a little bit more of a commitment than you're ready to make, ara ara.

It doesn't take long to break into a completely different and relatively unguarded building, and while you're not the supreme hacker Akari is, you're capable enough to get into their security systems and take a look at the tapes of the front doors – and those of the target building. Finding the part you want takes you less time than it would another, because you can actually process the images that are moving too fast for others to follow. Learning how to do it gave you the worst migraines, mostly because you didn't blink often and the white noise of the screen itself was horrid to look at.
>>
>>48867464
Trying to explain that you could see the individual electron excitation on a CRT screen didn't happen until you were in your teens, because you didn't actually understand what you were looking at yourself until then.

“Himeyuri” isn't someone you know disguised as Himeyuri. It looks, for anyone who doesn't memorize how someone moves as a matter of course as they look at someone, exactly like her. Which means it's probably much more powerful than an illusion. A shapechanger perhaps. It IS the real Ah-sama and Oh-sama accompanying her, though, which explains the elaborate set up. Trying to catch and kill them would be trouble at the best of times. In this situation? Pretty close to suicide without serious backup and maybe a harpoon gun. Guided missiles would make it impossible to butcher them, so those would be right out.

You lean back in the chair and ponder.

[] Right, time to go and talk to Himeyuri – the real one.
[] There's a couple of people you could potentially snatch, if you were of a mind to.
[] Maybe go take a look at how well guarded those relatives of Himeyuri's are.
[] Give Chisato a call, have her set up a business in the target building, just in case.
[] Check out the obvious trap next, just to see what they did there.

Oh, kamidammit.
There is the obvious trap, and then the non obvious trap.

And then, there's the trap which is in place about Himeyuri, because Oba-san is a bitch and would not hesitate to get the somewhat compromised and also failure -committing Himeyuri killed if it meant taking down Ryukusa at the same time.

That can play into our hands, as long as we expect a third trap in place. Easier to convince someone to bail when their boss sells them out.

Assumptions, admittedly, but it's what I would do in Oba-san's shoes.

Potentially some sort of curse or other non-obvious magical effect rather than physical guards.

[XX] Check out the obvious trap next, just to see what they did there.
[XXX] Right, time to go and talk to Himeyuri – the real one.

You undo your rather basic hacks and wipe down anything you need to, which honestly isn't all that much. Then you're out and off again, leaping between buildings and running down the alleys and up walls on occasion. Well, not really, you're mostly climbing them without using too much of your hands. Your claw-tips are still sensitive on your right hand.

It doesn't take too long at all to get to where Himeyuri lives, and even less time to scout the area. Aside from a couple of exceedingly bored elite warriors on the (poorly guarded) perimeter, most of the assault team is actually in Himeyuri's home. It takes next to no effort to infiltrate a room next door to hers, which is unoccupied except for a very unfortunate novice oni-child whom you render unconscious by dropping his blood pressure to barely survivable levels. It's a lot harder than you had thought it would be, but Fire is always weak to water, even if his heart could chew up scalpels if they tried open heart surgery on him.

It doesn't take long to identify the voices and their owners. You can feel the wards on the rooms; they're clearly designed to keep you from entering or Void magics from affecting those within, though they're not on par for a Clan Ryo VIP. And they don't stop you from simply listening through the wall in the slightest.

“I still don't see why they consider this necessary. I mean, it's ridiculous to have us wait here while they actually try and capture her with an actual trap.” Natsuo-san, a fire oni-child, and one of your cousin's harem. She's pissed, and half of that is most likely because she's pretending to be part of the clan still.
>>
One thing we need to keep in mind is that Stone and Wood are now extra-dangerous for us as a fully matured Demigod, though I'm not sure we know the specifics of how yet.

Fortunately I think it's pretty unlikely that Oba-san knows what elements we chose, or would be confident enough in guessing to make it a key factor in her plans.

“She won't come here because she's a Water dragonette. Only an idiot would actually come looking for someone where they live after threatening them.” Well, Kanako-chan isn't wrong, but she's mistaken. She was probably assigned to keep an eye on these kids after her disastrous capture mission where you and Akari scared the hell out of all of them. Might be fun to show yourself just to terrify her and prove her wrong in the same instant. “That's why they didn't concern themselves with your elemental types.”

“I'd like to see her. Just to see if I can actually hurt her.” Huh, you don't know her. Has the same accent as Hebiki Naoto, though; could be a relative of Akari or her sister.

“You can't.” Musumi Kanako again. “Water overcomes Fire.” An annoyed humph from the mysterious person. Pretty even tempered for a Fire creature. You can almost hear the unvoiced disagreements churning their way through her mind.

“You should stop talking about her. She might sense it.” Oh, that voice you know. Ryuu Fuuta, one of the cutest Void Oni-chicks you've ever had the pleasure of practicing with. You made a point of practicing with her because she had a tendency to distract her opponents by 'losing' her clothing. Mostly because it made her itch, but still. She was well on her way to becoming a potent practitioner of oni-magic.

“That's nonsense, Fuuta-chan.” Hebiki Gii, Akari's cousin, much the same as Hauko is your cousin. Human shinobi-sorceress-in-training. An experimental counter to the Kaga Clan demon quellers. “She's not a Void dragonette.” You can just imagine Fuuta pinning Gii-chan with a one eyed stare, the other hidden under her hair, and looking dubious.

All girls. Must have been something like Oba-san suggesting a sleepover, which translates to 'stay here, guard the place, and report back when called'.

You could take most of them easily, but there are enough wildcards that underestimating them could get you hurt. Probably not killed, and definitely not captured.

She basically ran to Oba-san about this, which makes her a: fair game, and b: unlikely to turn away without putting ourselves at serious risk.

Physically incapacitating her for extended periods of time wouldn't help, because her mind is what makes her useful.

Mindbreak and leaving her effectively dead, and at best able to regather the scraps of her mind into some semblance of sanity if never to regain the heights of her spymastering is slightly better than killing her (but only slightly, admittedly) and removes her from play.

I just want to make someone mind shatter due to cooking, actually

One, Ryukusa is not a shitty person, and so won't mind break people like you want to do.

Two, no, it's worse than killing her by far.

Three, it'd be completly OOC

Four, no, she didn't ran to Oba-san, and even if she did, that doesn't make her fair game.
>>
>>48868563
Then she can take solace while mindbroken that she gets to keep her family.

Ryukusa's marked her family for death as a demigod, has a killed for less, and someone loyal is admirable, but no less of a target, and no less deadly just because she's cute and does spywork instead of straight up combat.

Compare her to that snake guy that was guarding Colonel German Asshole/Melinda's Dad. We respected him because he was loyal and willing to die for his boss, but still killed him in a straight up fight.

Eh, I'm not going to succeed so I'll stop here, but it just sits wrong with me that we're basically walking into a trap to fulfil a loophole to demonstrate our mercy to someone who's just shown they aren't willing to get out of our way AND remains a potent danger. All this is going to show is we've got the capability of waltzing into a fortress, but we aren't willing to actually use that to hurt our enemy. All that shows is that our threats are hollow and pointless and bluster, and we're putting ourselves into a dragon's maw (relatively great danger) to do so.

Alternatively we could simply go and take out Oba-san if she's spent all this muscle on protecting Himeyuri, and make this whole point utterly moot. Is Oba-san related to Himeyuri?

Two, Himeyuri haven't done this, and tonight is about making her stop being a potent danger, one way or another.

The loophole only work for Himeyuri herself. And the "if you wake up" part is just to spook her, since we can actually decide if she does or not, with a 99.99% accuracy.

>I might have missed it, I thought it was because she had a small formidable army on call for her defense, which wasn't worth the risk, but that small army is currently off guarding traps.

You lean against the wall, feeling the wards' resistance to your presence through the material of the wall. You glance at the unconscious oni-guy behind you and then sink him even deeper into unconsciousness, before pressing your hands and forehead against the wall, partly listening into their conversation and partly feeling the wards themselves.

“She is not a dragonette at all if you believe what the rank and file are saying,” says the mysterious new person, teasingly. Like a boyish sort of person trying to get a rise out of someone. Probably Musumi.

Who is apparently having none of that, by cutting her short. “She isn't. She's a demigod, not a dragonette.” The sense of foreboding that falls over the room is almost palpable through the wall, and you can't help smiling to yourself. About two hundred years ago, you would have had the same reaction. “So speculating about how you would be able to harm her is an exercise in futility. She still has all the capability of a Water dragonette, so only Fuuta, Gii and myself have any chance of actually fighting her effectively, Rishi-san.” Ah, a name. Still not one you recognize, but definitely from the same area as Akari's family.

“Stop treating Rishi-san like she's a fucking idiot, bitch. She's trained in the same fucking techniques as Akari, so she isn't some ham-fished fucking moron like half of the Ryo oni-children.” Her voice is mild, but Natsuo-san is still irritated, and you don't blame her. She's probably chafing to get some action. Pity, you would like to help her get some, but your cousin is probably a taboo subject in Clan Ryo if you know Oba-san at all.

Sadly, you're pretty sure you do know her fairly well.

You can feel the power flowing through the wards, paper wards, simple, effective, charged with the Chi of their maker and the shen to power them. The same person made all the wards, throughout the house. They resonate through the Void with one another, disrupting the normal flow of feng shui through the room. You open Void Eyes in your mind, without opening your eyes because you can't see through the wall....but you can feel the power flowing through them. And all it would take is just touching one, and you could blow all of them up at the same time. Well, not blow them up, just break them. Matagama-no-Shitoki can help you, as can the power in your right hand.

“Hush Natsuo,” Ichika murmurs softly. “She doesn't know any better.” You can almost smell Musume's fury at the dismissal. “Tell me a bedtime story.”

“You're too fucking old for bedtime stories,” Natsuo says, but with no heat at all behind the words.

“....Then tell me a ~naughty~ bedtime story, Natsuo.”

“H-hentai oni!” Rishi's outburst is pure Fire dragonette, and even more childish sounding that Kiki-hime.

“To be expected of oni-girls who like lilies,” Musume says dismissively.

You actually pull back away from the wall and close Void Eyes as the tension explodes through the room.

“You'd better apologize, Kanako-sama,” warns Fuuta softly. “Or something bad will happen.”

That must be your cue.

You grab the oni-guy with your left hand and haul him into the hallway. Writing on his forehead with a felt tip marker you then walk back to the door and push your talons slowly through the wood, just above the peephole where the talisman is undoubtedly located. You hear the voices getting more irate, but now you're concentrating and haven't time to listen.
>>

You close your eyes, and tense, before pushing your claws the final millimeters into the door and touching the talisman, and flooding it with your Shen....

….which cascades through the lines of Chi and Shen to the others along the walls, ceiling and floor....

….which causes them to overload, and burst, from the door, in a wave across the entire apartment. The progress is slow enough to follow easily, but you're already gone before it reaches the first third of the apartment. By the time it reaches the end you're already racing towards the last place on your list, where Himeyuri herself is said to be. But you can imagine it now....the look on their faces as they open the door to the hallway where the wind of your rushed passage had left leaves and dust everywhere. And even more priceless the look on everyone's faces when they see their friend's unconscious body across the hallways from the door, with the words “you should have listened to Fuuta-chan” written on his face. That should earn her some respect.

Huh. It just occurred to you that you figured out how the bad guys always blow up all the wards before they charge into the victim's well-defended stronghold and beat the crap out of them just before the hero gets there.

You can just imagine Kanako-san's face when you reveal you are in fact the antagonist of the series, but you can actually HEAR wing-beats behind you!

>Ryukusa is aware that Musume Kanako (a Water dragonette) has wings, but if it is her, she has become unusually or possibly unnaturally fast; it may not be her.

SO
if we do manage to put pieces of Oba-san on Himeyuri's living room without waking Himeyuri up

does that fulfil the promise of slaughtering "them" and putting "them" in the spymistress' living room?

Of course, I was assuming that her army had gotten a lot smaller due to her wasting a tonne of powerful staff on trying to kill Ryukusa already, such as that guy who trained Ryukusa, alongside deploying her personal bodyguards Ah and Oh to protect Himeyuri's body double and what other resources she's put into play for the trap.

Considering Oba-san's personal army isn't getting any smaller, since we're even letting Ah and Oh back with a warning and a swat on the rear, her being this unguarded is probably the best chance to try that out if we were bold enough to try.

Well, nevermind, sooner or later she's going to run out of minions willing to attack us and we can claim a moral victory while she fumes impotently or whatever. I just wish we'd take a risk that actually had a significant effect instead of simply showing off while taking aforesaid huge risks.

That's not stopping us from walking into a trap that is designed to kill us, with people all the way up to the clan mistress' personal guards used in the trap's bait. If we're afraid of attacking oba-san directly, why are we so willing to antagonise clan Ryo against odds that Akari thinks are bad?

You know, this has the added benefit of making them thing their strategy worked somewhat, and they're going to have no idea what to do now.

Clan Ryo is going to be full chaos, tonight.

Should we use a set of our Eyes, right now? I don't want to be caught off-guard by this flying thing
>>
>>48870230
Wouldn't that be quite the drain on Ryukusa? Some of her less-used eyes at least.
>>
>>48869859

You're great, XS. Don't think you're a monster, but even if you were, it wouldn't change you're great.

I mean, just look at Peta, it's all the proof you need to see you can be both.
>>
>>48870255

It wouldn't be a big drain for Fire and Void, and it'd be easy for Water Eyes.
>>
>>48870189
Please excuse this humble anonette for not seeing what smile we're protecting here, except Himeyuri from ourselves.
>>
>>48870344
I think protecting our own smile because we really don't want to kill Himeyuri and display her corpse in the house of our parents?
>>
>>48870344
I'm okay with protecting Himeyuri's smile.
>>
>>48870404
>>48870431
So... can we just leave the two fish in Himeyuri's living room and go home, then? Because that totally satisfies the promise.
>>
>>48870457
I don't think it counts if she's not there. Does it?
>>
>>48870344

We're protecting the smiles of all our family, Rykusa included.

Once again, we're going to fulfil our promise non-violently, THEN we're going to deal with Himeyuri, in any way that is needed.

Himeyuri is, as noted last session, probably the only one in Clan Ryo who could be able to hinder us while we handle the minions of Enma-oh. Tonight, we're going to make sure she is not a threat to our family anymore. And preferably in a positive fashion.

The Promise is NOT an opportunity to kill her or cripple her. We could have killed her without warning, if we had wanted to. The Promise is a restriction, and we're going to remove that restriction, then Ryukusa will create an opportunity.

The same way Ruykusa didn't kill the two generals or Himeyuri's subordinate since there was a better way.
>>

She must be sleeping while we do so and not wake up. So we'd have to know this.

[XX] Stop and let them pass and get your intel before darting off in another direction.
[X] On the next bound, turn around and assess casually.
[+] Mirror check.

A quick glance at the back window of a car – mental note, you cannot do this while Stone Eyes are active – lets you see a more slender, streamlined dragonette is chasing you at an impressive speed. She's definitely faster than you, but her reflexes aren't nearly as sharp, though that's an experience thing from the way she moves in flight, rather than an Element issue. She's definitely a fire dragonette – her hands are wreathed in flame that hasn't been put out by her flight speed.

This much be Hebiki Rishi, though you're guessing at her Clan name.

You hit the ground and leap, a longer, lower leap than before and put a touch of spin in it, so you can turn and look at her directly. She's got thick bone armor along her hands and forearms, also along her wing edges and the sides of her head. Her horns are angular and sharp, almost Stone dragonette if you didn't know she was pure fire dragonette. She grins viciously and you can't help but smile at her. You give her a little fingerwave and she puts on a burst of speed as you start to land.

As much as you'd like to play, you really have to be getting on with things, and you really aren't interested in hurting anyone. So you make your next landing in the middle of the street and-

You fall back before you can even think about why. It was the rush of wind resistance from her folding her wings and diving, of course, but that is something you don't actually think about reacting to, you just react. You don't fall down of course – you have a tail. But you do go almost entirely parallel to the ground as she passes over you, her arms closing where you stood not even milliseconds before. Her bright red eyes are already tracking you, far too late to do anything about it.

Or about the fact that you undo her belt and hold onto it as she passes over you, smiling sweetly at the cute tomboy dragonette with the utterly stunned expression on her face.

Naturally, the belt pulling through the loops sends her into a spin which she halts by spreading her wings and arms wide as she turns to locate you....but you're already gone, leaving her shocked and confused, and with her pants around her ankles, belt neatly placed into the kanji for 'bye'. Striped pink panties: cute.

“ECCHI DRAGON!”

Ah yes, the sound of pantsed Fire dragonette. You would recognize it anywhere.

Naturally she's hunting, darting here and there across the sky, but she can't find you. Just because you don't travel through the sewers and subways doesn't mean you can't, after all. Though subway it is this time, you'd rather not wake Himeyuri with the stench of local sewer. Heh, Clan Ryo would probably be responsible for alligator sightings in sewers, except humans can't see dragonette tails and horns. Well, most humans that would mention them, anyways.

It takes you next to no time at all to arrive in one of the less populous residential districts of Chiyoda, and the apartment complex she is supposedly in. You to take a circuitous route, and spot the guards keeping an eye on her nearest family. If you were not capable of using Void Eyes, you would have missed Ryuu Yakumo, her subordinate. A Water dragonne and the one she turns to for deep thinking, the dragonne whom watches and understands the politics of the Diet intimately, being carefully hidden by a Void empowered invisibility talisman was not something you expected. There are three others, but they're elite warriors, nothing on the scale of Yakumo-sama (ha-ha-ha). They're also concentrating on her family, which you find terribly interesting.

The apartment where she is staying is another matter entirely. Even approaching it causes the cat youkai in your aura to react. Not surprising, but it's not exactly a ward they're reacting to. More like....watchful eyes of someone you can't see or sense. Fire Eyes reveals the truth almost immediately – shikigami. A spirit invested in a paper charm, powerful magic. You're not particularly surprised that Himeyuri is a sorceress, but that she practices onmyudo is an unpleasant surprise. It's currently on the roof, a two headed snake – and the tail is one of the heads.

No wonder she didn't think she needed guards. She's her own best guard.

The person sneaking up on you from the alleyway near where you've perched on the edge of a doorway isn't particularly hostile as of yet, but they're understandably cautious. Smells innocent enough, female, young, maybe too young. Smells of cat, but isn't youkai. Oh, you can definitely get past the shikigami, with not problem whatsoever, and get inside the apartment. Then the fun starts.

[XX] Go ahead and acknowledge the cat-person-thing.
[X] Offer her a cat youkai.

“I can smell your breath. I can feel your air. I can....wait, that was that other dragon. Never mind.” You half-jump half slide off the door frame and onto the ground, stepping around the corner of the alleyway and into the dark-for-everyone-but-you-and-cats.

You come face to face with a rather bizarre amalgam of cat, youkai, and human. You would ordinarily say it was a bakeneko, but she isn't – she is definitely human. Except the two tails would make her nekomata, but nekomata aren't human at all, they're pure youkai. So....she would have to be a spirit-child. Except bakeneko never mate with humans – they're even less perverse than nekomata, which is saying something.

The only operable conclusion: possession.

Except if she was she wouldn't smell....well, she wouldn't smell of pure virginal innocence. Oh, she's impure as all yomi, there's no doubt about that, because youkai. You can smell innocence at ten paces, and she's only about five feet away and looking up at you with the golden cat eyes of a youkai, with all the guileless innocence of a six year old (she's closer to nine).

Also, she's fuckin' emerald green.

“Why are you carrying big sis' kittens?”

….um.

Unexpected.

Exceedingly unexpected.

“She gave them to me to watch over.” You split off one of the cat youkai and it slides around your arms and she accepts it, stroking it's insubstantial body with ease as it purrs happily.

Damn, another mark for possession. You kneel and stroke the insubstantial cat youkai with her, which she doesn't seem to object to. Her glowing eyes fix on yours. It's an unnerving feeling, looking into those innocent eyes that should be anything but.

She looks up at you and asks with the same guileless innocences, “Why did you kill the bad man, but not his daughter?”

Your list of people killed isn't that long, and it's even less long where there are relatives....involved....such as....a daughter you....let....live.

After a fashion.

You stare at the innocent abomination and curse yourself for discussing 'improbable things that could possibly go wrong on this particular mission' with Akari.

At the moment, Ryukusa is someone who has been living on red bull since she was born, so she knows how to cope with a red bull level of hyperactivity since all her life.

Now someone has added monster drinks to her diet as well. It's a new level of hyperactivity for her, but she's Clever enough to understand exactly what's wrong with her and avoid allowing itto screw her over - to an extent. Because even though she understands the problem and issues, she can't NOT suffer through them, because it's simply how her body and mind work now. She's trying to acclimate in the least destructive method possible, as >>48867331
surmised correctly.

>>48869814
She has a set of talisman pasties/protection.

>>48869924
Clan Ryo consists of 250 active members, of which 80 or so are elites or close to it, and 15 of which are people like Ah, Oh, Yakumo, Himeyuri, etc. there are another 400 plus non-active support staff. It is the third largest clan of spirit-child yakuza in Japan.

>>
Thanks for running!

>>48872034

She's Melinda Blitzenberg, who turned into an abomination. Rie apparently made her more cat-like

>>48871908

“Why did you kill the bad man, but not his daughter?”

Well, because she was his victime, because Ryukusa wanted to help her and that she could, because we gave her the choice between three options, including killing her, the cat, or living as an abomination, and she choose the cat, and all that sort of things.
>>
>>48872068
Thanks for running XS. Any chance of another thread this week?
>>
>>48872125
Blitzenberg made abominations.

What he did to his daughter nearly turned her into a youkai, or even a curse.
>>
>>48872125
Actually, her choices were death, living in Japan only as a bakemonoish being, or returning to Germany as a Sorcerer.
>>
>>48872068
Was there a reason why we couldn't have just dropped the fish off in Himeyuri's house, then given her a buzz after she's dropped her guard, or this going to be Ryukusa's (admittedly super-effective) risky showboating?
>>
>>48872125
I don't think it's Melinda. Isn't Melinda the daughter in question? I didn't think she was speaking in third person.

>>48872130
I am tentatively planning for tomorrow.

>>48872166
The wording of the promise requires the "fish" be killed on the premises, prepared for a display, and then left there at the very least, while Himeyuri sleeps in that premises.

That is the MINIMUM required action for the promise to be totally fulfilled. Ryukuza can wake Himeyuri on purpose, which avoids the 'if you wake' clause, since someone else is doing the waking. Note that this will not work for her shikigami, as those are apart of her own power and counts as waking herself. Another person can also wake her, but anything other than a human or a spirit-child would make it questionable and therefore unsafe (and likely impossible).
>>
>>48872202
Thank you.

>>48872188
She is not - the terms she used indicate she is in fact speaking about someone other than herself and not-related to her.
>>
>>48872068
I don't really remember if we went over this in quest or not, but why don't the Kamuy bear a grudge towards the Japanese, seeing as the Ainu really were not treated very well since the Meiji Restoration? Is it just not in their nature?
>>
>>48872158

Fair enough.

>>48872188

Becoming another being can leave you with a distanced sense of who you were.
>>
>>48872234

That's fair enough! Thanks for clarifying, XS!
>>
>>48872274
Essentially, yes. The kamuy are far less godlike than the kami, and at the same time, far less human than the kami. They are more akin to forces of nature personified yet dedicated to helping or harming humans as a whole. Appeasing them is a long term, slow task that requires dedication, so they tend to focus on what they have and can gain from whomever will worship them, rather than trying to supplant other spiritual beings - not necessarily the best choice for survival....but then, that may change soon.
>>
>>48872350

Oh boy
>>
>>48872333
It would have been gone over before doing anythign critical, it wasn't a secret. Ryukusa just can't understand it until it was necessary for her to understand it - Kami Stuff overrides intellect and willpower entirely.

Same thing happened with Barrier Combat - Ryukusa herself had no idea what anything did, and had to learn by doing.
>>
So I guess this girl was why Rie showed up at the Colonel's base.
>>
>>48872394
Rie sees much more than she discusses.
>>
>>48872404

That's her job.

Plus, she gets a lot of pussies by acting all mysterious.
>>
>>48872234
I was curious about Ryukusa waking her, thank you for clarifying that even though I didn't ask.

>>48872350
I think I prefer emotional to cold, in many cases. Both can be good, but eh.
>>
>>48872385
So is Kami Stuff because spirit-childten are at least partially creatures of story, and sometimes narratives kind of "solidify" around them?
>>
>>48872588
Kami Stuff is defined by spirit-children as those instances where the Kami (or for that matter Kamuy) actively intervene in their lives. Kami and Kamuy can't act directly in the real wold - they have to rely on others to do that for them. However, being partly spirit, when the spirit-children encounter restrictions or strictures that the Kami themselves have to obey or have set down, they can't resist. Humans, being detached from the spirit world, CAN, unless they form an attachment - i.e. become miko, preists, sorcerers, etc.

That's why the kami don't appreciate spirit-children killing humans even indirectly. Kami aren't supposed to be that direct, and it offends their (clearly inhuman) sensibilities when spirit-children are.
>>
>>48872234
Wait so you're saying we can't be noticed by the shikigami because they'll alert Himeyuri and count as "her"?
>>
>>48872697
The shikigami is her creation, so yes, it will count.

>>48872404
XS, in this case, is this new abomination a reflection of the being Miranda was turning into, or...something really cool and different entirely, because it seems like her purity and innocence are DEFINITELY Miranda, but there's also the monster-bits, but in a completely new form.
>>
>>48872697
In theory, it would be bad for Ryukusa to be noticed by the shikigami for that reason, yes. However, she has many options - shikigami are a form of spirit infused spell, but they're not free willed, ordinarily. they're also predictable as a general rule, unless Himeyuri has spent a lot of time and effort into one. That has a set of dangers that make onmyudo rarely practiced beyond the medicinal point; such overpotent shikigamai make tulpas look friendly and playful as opposed to self induced psychoses out to kill you and subsume your life.

And she is very good at being unnoticed - not on Yuuhi's level, but then, Yuuhi cheats.
>>
>>48872784
You seem to be under the misapprehension that his abomination is 'new'. Otherwise spoilers.
>>
>>48872815
Huh. Thanks XS. Have a good night and thank you for running.
