Stage 130: ….when the kami give you cats....

There are many things that can go wrong on a mission. Usually these things involve encountering the enemy in a fashion that increases the personal risk of everyone involved. Sometimes they involve a third party interfering with the situation. Often, they're simply the results of bad intelligence.

To say that things have gone wrong on this particular mission isn't quite accurate.

More like, an entirely unprecedented and previously thought impossible situation has reared it's rather pretty golden-eyed and emerald-haired head at the most inconvenient time possible in the absolute worst place possible. But then, it is a cat, of sorts, so that was kind of inevitable. That would probably be why it wasn't among the troops that Colonel Friedrich Blitzenberg tried to use to capture Kiki-hime and kill you and Akari: you can't really make a cat do anything it doesn't want to do.

You're not sure why she has green hair.

The fact that she has two long, shining tails and a pair of adorable green ears is terribly cute on her nine-year old looking body, but she isn't a nekomata. She's a mix of bakeneko and something else; what, you're really not sure. There's enough human in the mixture that she's a spirit-child, but whatever else is in her, it hasn't spoiled anything but her purity. The bakeneko-breed girl apparently looks up to Rie as an older sister, and currently you're allowing her to pet one of the God's Eye Nekomata's cat youkai, which is just fine by her. It's currently distracting her from the question she asked you.

Namely, why you killed the Colonel but let his daughter live.

This wouldn't be so much trouble if you weren't on a mission to deal with a promise you made to slaughter a couple of people and display them in the home of the spymaster of Clan Ryo. The promise is divinely enforced, to the point where not even the Jade Emperor of the Celestial Harmony, may he live Ten Thousand times Ten Thousand years, can keep you from fulfilling it. Which is an impressive thing to say when he's delivered an Edict directing you to eliminate Enma-Oh and all his minions from Japan. Using the power of Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado to do so, even. And for as clever and quick on your feet as you are, this is just the kind of thing that happens with Kami Stuff that you forbade your best friend from getting involved at all.

The worst part about all this is that while you are aware of how badly a disruption like this can affect you, you can't really DO much to fix that problem. For instance, all this over-thinking you're doing while the two-headed shikigami that Ryuu Himeyuri is warily observing the buildings that you and this curious little monster are hiding between. If it wakens Himeyuri, you'll have to try and knock her unconscious before you try and infiltrate her undoubtedly much better defended house, assuming she doesn't call her subordinate over to try and kill you. And fighting a loyal and highly promoted Water dragonne is not something you want to do tonight.

Staying in bed would have driven you just as mad as all this is, you're quite sure.

[] Well, you might as well ask her name for a start.
[] Try and find out where she lives, hoping she's not as insane as Rie.
[] Ask her if she would mind staying here while you take care of something.
[] Answer the question as honestly as you can.
[] Touch fluffy ears. It works for other weird critters you know.

So what do you guys make of this? Because right now, I'm not sure what's wrong with answering honestly, I can't really remember but I don't think the answer we'd give would reveal us a hypocrite for what we're planning to do to Himeyuri or otherwise impure would it? Like is it more because this girl even if she's "innocent" might turn violent if we give a bad answer and that'll be really awkward/bad if she can curse us?

There is nothing wrong with answering honestly from a rational standpoint, and the answer wouldn't make us an hypocrite, because Ryukusa is not an hypocrite, be it in thoughts, speech or actions. Aside from comedic things.

It is just that she might react badly for some reason, and that can trigger Himeyuri's protections, which is bad.

[XX] Well, you might as well ask her name for a start.
[X] Answer the question as honestly as you can.

[x] Try and find out where she lives, hoping she's not as insane as Rie.
[+] Introduce yourself, you dork.

You and she together pet the weird little insubstantial ball-and-tail of catness that is an unmanifested cat youkai as she holds it on her arm. Trying to wrap your head around this situation is difficult so you start with the basics. “What is your name, neko-chan?” It's the safest thing you can think of to call her.

She only has eyes for the glimmering ball of catness on her arm, which is good because her glowing golden eyes are seriously disturbing to look into for too long. You're not used to innocence. “Cuisidhe,” she replies immediately.

“Kutse? Well, it is certainly appropriate. My name is Ryuu Ryukusa” You kneel and smile at her sadly. “I killed the colonel because he was trying to hurt some people who are very important to me.” You don't complicate the answer by explaining it was really his daughter that killed him, given that he was feeding her human remains at the time. “His daughter was just someone else he had hurt, so I tried to help her. Then your onee-sama came and took her away.” Really oversimplified....no, actually that isn't oversimplified at all, that's almost exactly what happened.
>>
>>48885076
Kutse looks up at you and blinks those lanterns she calls eyes. With a smile you shrug. “There is only so much that a person like me can forgive, Kutse-san.” She nods slowly, thoughtfully. Carefully and slowly you reach over and stroke her hair, letting your fingers brush along the base of her ears firmly so as not to tickle. She lays her ears flat but her eyes close and she immediately starts purring. “Do you live near by Kutse-san?”

Kutse looks up but does so carefully so that she doesn't dislodge your hand, which you take as encouragement. “I live here.” You blink and point at the alleyway and she shakes her head. “In Chiyoda. Onee-chan says I'm allowed to live here as long as I like.” Your heart leaps into your throat, and you carefully continue to pet the cute little innocent abomination that has been tasked with patrolling Emperor Akihito home district. Gathering the cat youkai into her arms she lifts it up and offers it to you with both hands, which rather forces you to stop petting Kutse herself.

Shit just got even more complicated. You need to talk to Rie about this, seriously.

[] ….you know, she can keep it. Every little girl needs a pet.
[] Carefully accept the youkai back from her and let it sink into your aura.
[] Ask her if she would like to let it go free.
[] Pet the cat youkai, and ask her what she does here, carefully.

It used to be 862.
>>
[X] Pet the cat youkai, and ask her what she does here, carefully.
[X] Ask if you can come visit her later.
[+] See what the cat youkai wants to do. The Kami know you can't freakin' order the damn thing around, it's a fuckin' cat.
[+] Ask about her asking. Kami help you if it's just idle curiosity, you head might explode.

You let a little smile slip through the forced calm, because she is pretty adorable holding out a ball of can spirit out to you, and you stroke the youkai, wondering how the heaven the silly thing can purr if it isn't actually there. Avoiding the quantum physics experiment of whether or not a conceptualized cat can purr aloud, you ask Katse gently, “Did Rie-sama give you a job to do here, or do you have things you like to do here?”

She nods, which is annoying because you asked two questions, and takes the cat youkai into her arms and hugs it, though not too tight. “I'm supposed to keep people like me from coming around here.”

Hmn. “You mean, other cat spirits?” She shakes her head. “Other dangerous spirits?” She shakes her head again.

….

“You mean like the colonel's daughter or his solders?”

She nods solemnly.

Well, Akihito-tenno sure as heaven isn't going to be on Taisho Ryoga's hit list any time soon, that's for damn sure. “Can I come by later then, and talk with you some more?” The cat youkai she is hugging seems perfectly content to remain hugged and held, despite what looks like the seriously most awkward squishing that any cat should never have to endure.

“Uh huh. You're nice.”
>>
>>48885815
Kamidamnit, you're blushing. “Thank you Katse-sama. I have to go do some more work, so I have to go now. Is that okay?” She nods solemnly, and watches you as you stand up. “It was really nice to meet you, Katse-sama.”

“It was nice to meet you, Ryukusa-sama. Will you come talk to me some more later?” She asks with the solemnity that only the very young and innocent can ask.

“Yes, I will. Maybe not tonight, but soon. I would like you to meet my family. I think you will get along with some of them very well.” Kiki-hime, Yuuhi- and Yui-chan would totally adore her. She nods slowly, accepting your claim at face value. Because, well, innocent. “Katse-sama....may I ask why you wanted to know why I did those things?” Another nod, this time in acquiescence. “Katse-sama, why did you want to know why I let the daughter live and killed the father?”

“Because I wanted to know why you let the daughter go after you killed her dad.” At first it seems like an obvious response from an innocent, but you don't really think that the simple answer is what it is. The Japanese are infamous for holding grudges, even beyond the grave; leaving Melinda alive, especially after she nearly became a bakemono herself, would be foolish. You're not quite sure what would have happened if Rie-sama hadn't shown up, but you're glad she did; it saved you and Akari-niji-chan from having to fight Melinda more.

You're still going to have Er Yin-sensei and Kiku-chan vet Katse-sama thoroughly, because Yomi take you if you have any idea what kind of spiritual mess this could boil over into.
>>
>>48885839
You bow to her and she bows back, still holding the cat youkai to her chest with both arms. She steps away, and then turns around and starts talking to her new pet. Or maybe, new friend. “You can be George. I'm Katse. We're gonna go look at the fish in the river, okay George?”

The ghostly meow from the cat youkai sends shivers down your spine, though you don't let it show.

Taking a moment to put all that weird stuff – which is saying something coming from you – out of your head, you turn and narrow your eyes at the edges of the two headed snake shikigami Himeyuri has left to guard the roof of the apartment building she's in. You do a slow check and make sure no one else has arrived to cause trouble for you, and you withhold the sigh of relief because you're not going to jinx yourself that way twice in one night.

[] Leave the snake-charm in place and hope it can't shrink and get into the house.
[] Take out the double snake shikigami before infiltrating.
[] Leap up and catch the shikigami in a Barrier that doesn't include the rest of the building.
[] Try and use Water Eyes on it.

[XX] Try and use Water Eyes on it.
[X] You can get into the building the hard way to avoid all detection but it stinks.
[x] Take out the double snake shikigami before infiltrating.

You open your Water Eyes and study the snake-shikigami, not entirely certain what to expect as it is mostly a spirit imbued with the will and power of the maker of its shell. Nevertheless, you do get an interesting understanding of the make. Meticulous in execution, the creation was painstaking and slow; this was a crafting that took more than a few days of effort, and she wouldn't have used it unless she felt the need was critical.

It's nice to be appreciated.

The spirit is vigilant and wary, but at the same time it is not entirely something that is focused on its task. You can sense the frayed threads of its attention as it strains against the power that holds it to Himeyuri's will. It is supposed to waken her, but it wants to shed blood, preferably Himeyuri's.

….this changes things a little.

You could easily enter the building through the drainage system, and as unpleasant as that might be, it isn't like you can't clean up thoroughly when you're inside. On the other hand, if that thing breaks free before you finish what you have to do, it would be a rampaging bakemono, not a youkai or a shikigami. Not that you doubt Himeyuri's skills, but its a distinct risk that you would be ignoring.

Void Eyes only helps you understand the problem more clearly: Himeyuri invested a lot of power into making it a guardian that could take on a senior member of the clan or three, maybe a single elite, but that much power has given it a measure of desire that was detectable through Water Eyes. It doesn't have autonomy or self-will – yet. The strands of power holding it in check aren't fraying continuously or anything, but they're damaged, certainly. Should Himeyuri lose control , they will snap all at once.

She's no two bit hack of a sorceress, that's for certain.

[] Isolate it in a Barrier and then destroy it.
[] End it physically and prevent the power backlash using Matagama-no-Shitoki.
[] It's similar to a ward or a talisman – your left arm can snuff the magic entirely.
[] Using your right hand to cancel the magics will consume the power and end the spell silently.
[] Leave it – if Himeyuri can't cope with her own power, it's on her.
>>
>>48886418
That seems rather a risky summon then.

Every single option makes it clear that Himeyuri won't notice. Ryukusa scouted the whole area, twice. There comes a point where asking for more assurances is counterproductive and ends in us never doing anything.

It's been made abundantly clear Ryukuza Quest isn't a safe space and will never be 100% perfectly safe.

I don't THINK Himeyuri is anime-villain enough to lay a trap inside the Shikigami to be triggered when we disrupt or absorb it.

[+] Fire Eyes
[+] Risk assessment.

Looking at the shikigami with Fire eyes results in astonishingly little information – you can see the spirit bound into the paper construct, but calling it a 'spirit' is actually giving it too much credit. It's barely sentient, more of an 'infused will' that harbors a trace of individual ambition simply because ~so much~ willpower was placed into the spell itself. That doesn't mean it won't be dangerous if it breaks free of the constraints bound into the paper charm. Quite the opposite, it would mean that spirit becomes truly free willed, transforming the shikigami into a full-fledged bakemono.

As far as risks: the only real risks, other than sitting here second guessing yourself to the point someone nearby takes notice and draws attention to you by asking you what you're doing here in the middle of the night looking at what seems like a quiet and unassuming apartment building, is someone catching sight of you as you destroy the invisible and otherwise undetectable guardian spirit that can only be seen by using spiritual Eyes. And since you can detect others using Elemental Eyes out to at least two hundred feet, you would notice anyone watching the creature itself or using Elemental Eyes in the vicinity.

Of course the longer you sit here in your confusion, the more likely it is that Ryuu Yakumo or someone else might decide to check up on their superior.

>>
>>48886886
Void Eyes probably would have noticed a magical trap like that since we learned to use them from Yui who would know what to look for.

Peta made a minor one that she used as a double of herself in her episode.
>>
[X] Using your right hand to cancel the magics will consume the power and end the spell silently.

While your left hand has the power to overwhelm wards, this isn't, strictly speaking, a ward. You right hand – or your talons and palm at least – can consume the magics sustaining the shikigami, and simply burn the sustaining magics away. Since the spell is self sustaining and the controls that Himeyuri placed on it are essentially little more than a magical if-then set of commands, as long as you kill it before it attacks you, everything should be fine.

Ironically, it's because the spell was worked so well and given so much power that you are able to slip past it; the double headed snake distracts itself constantly with flitting 'thoughts' of bloodshed and mayhem. So leaping towards it – basically, leaping over the apartments – results in a split second of surprise and confusion before you ignite the magics with your talons.

Which also hurts quite a bit, because you still haven't fully recovered from healing Er Yin. But what the heaven, it's worth it to see the entire shikigami burst into pure white flames and vanish without leaving a ripple in the spirit world to mark a sudden demise.

And once on the other side of the building, things are much easier. There are three apartments that you can enter from this side, as well as the required fire exit in the back. The fourth apartment on this side has lights on and someone – two of them, a man and a woman....oh. Well, they're distracted, and won't be a problem. The back door is easy, but she would have left that guarded as well. Other people's homes? Not so much.

She's on the top floor opposite this side of the two story apartment building, if Akari-niji-chan is to be believed; you should probably check all four though, just in case she left anyone to surprise you. There are humans in all the ones over here – you can feel their blood (and in two cases, other fluids) flowing evenly and healthily. Mostly sleeping. Except for those two.

[] Start on the bottom floor, work your way up.
[] Second floor, 'her side' is a good entry point.
[] Second floor diagonally from her supposed apartment.
[] Though the roof might be ideal, actually; roof to attic to living room, sort of thing.
[] You could enclose the house in a Barrier – that way only she and any other spirit-children would be there.

To break it, sure. I'm not underestimating Matagama-no-Shitoki-sama-chan. But her power isn't infinite, so it would have made her unable to affect something else tonight.Or at least would have made it extra-difficult and with Consequences.

>>
[XX] Start on the bottom floor, work your way up.
[X] Though the roof might be ideal, actually; roof to attic to living room, sort of thing.
[x] Second floor diagonally from her supposed apartment.
[+] Second floor, 'her side' is a good end point

While your right hand is still a bit tender, your left is fine; you leap up to the eave in between the apartment and sink you talons into the concrete easily, and stand on the molding around each of the windows on either side of the centerline.

This is why you never wear dresses to work, really.

Tender yes, but it is only a little pain. You pry off the vents that allow the attic area to have some measure of air circulation, and toss it to your tail, sliding your vanes through the back of the grate. Then you one-hand yourself into the attic, you tail pulling the grate back into place. Quietly as you can, but there is still some noise. You close your eyes and just feel the water and blood in the building, extending your awareness as far as you can. Still the same levels of activity, except there is only one family on the first floor, front of building, and one person awake and strong blooded. He's on the second floor as well, in the apartment next to the one Himeyuri is supposed to be in. There is in fact one woman in that apartment.

You make your way through the dark ductwork-riddled attic to the hallway access in the middle, and quietly pry up the closed entryway. Nailed shut, which means they don't use it for access anymore – or someone wanted to make sure it was harder to get through. This close, you can sense the man who is awake isn't human; youkai-born, with the speed and unnaturally low blood temperature he has. Or perhaps a Stone dragonne. Hard to say without getting close or actually looking at him.
>>
>>48888036
Switching to Void Eyes you check the hallway; his door is warded from the inside, while there are shikigami charms at either end of the hallway. They're simple, they wake someone up if someone steps into the hallway and nothing more. However, unlike the snake that used to be on the roof, they're just charms, and a thorough soaking destroys them instantly; there was no clause for 'wake me up upon destruction'. You doubt that was an oversight on Himeyuri's part – more likely it's a flaw within onmyudo itself.

That taken care of, you slide out of the opening and use your tail to replace the 'cover', though you don't bother securing it. You walk the hall – away from Himeyuri for the moment – and study the people sleeping in the rooms to the left and right of the back of the building. All humans, nothing unusual. Rather than go down the stairs, you leap from the stairwell to the wall and punch your left hand talons through, suspending yourself so you can see down the hallway. More of the same – not much, some shikigami 'wake me up if someone passes you', 'wake me up if someone sets foot upon the floor' (predictable, Himeyuri), and 'wake me up if someone uses magic on the locks of the doors.'

You leave all of those intact, because you killed the one that you needed to. You push off the wall and land in the upstairs hallway.

[] Try and use Void Eyes into Himeyuri's apartment.
[] Try and find out about the unusual person in the apartment across form Himeyuri.
[] Cheat – create a Barrier in Himeyuri's apartment and doorway, but ~exclude~ Himeyuri herself.
[] Politely knock on the unknown spirit-child's door and ask if he's expecting to thwart any ninjas tonight – after keeping Himeyuri entirely unconscious.
[] Time to use some of those chemicals you keep collecting....

damnit, the bottom three options all sound like fun, but talking to the guy might result in an uneccessary fight, I have no idea what we'd do with the chemicals, and... there's gotta be a reason Spirit Children don't use that barrier trick very often right? Is it just because they lack the stamina?

Wait so does that mean she'd be able to think back to any time she heard someone speaking Ainu, and be able to know what they were saying?

It probably wouldn't be anything too significant, but it might be amusing.
>>
>>48888190
Indeed anon, but where is a busy Dragonnette to find the time these days?
>>
>>48888135
The opposite - you'd basically isolate Himeyuri inside her apartment in reality while you use her living-room and kitchen inside the barrier to do all your cooking and prepwork without her wards or defenses affecting you. You then drag her in the barrier, wake her op, take down the barrier, and all her defenses are sprung, meaning she has to protect both of you from them - well, mostly, Ryukusa isn't quite sure about the finish on that one.
>>
>>48888228
Yes, she could.

>>48888127
She did pay attention in chemistry class, despite what everyone thinks of her high school years.
>>
>>48888259
I don't doubt Ryukusa would make an excellent student in almost whatever class she took; my surprise is more that she keeps chemicals around to make use of in the first place. I guess she is quite practical. Although since you brought it up, you probably had a lot more fun than me in chemistry if there were a lot of battle-usable chemicals and combinations taught there, haha.

>[] Cheat – create a Barrier in Himeyuri's apartment and doorway, but ~exclude~ Himeyuri herself.
>>
>>48888242
Huh, that sounds like a hilarious dick move.

But does that mean that, based on Ryukusa's knowledge of Onmyudo, it's not really possible for Himeyuri to make a "wake me up if someone raises a Barrier" shikigami, or if it is, it'd take so much work the shikigami would be really dangerous?
>>
>>48888317
She could make one - but the problem is that by the time it alerts her the Barrier is already up and normally she would be inside it, making the effort pointless. It doesn't typically occur to people to leave the enemy outside the Barrier.
>>
>>48888278
>>
>>48888362
While potentially battle useful in general, and certainly a hilarious mental image, I somehow feel this would not be...appropriate for Ryukusa's current mission.

Bit concerned that Ryukusa hasn't thought how this'll go down when she drops the barrier, but that also sounds like it could be fun.

So in addition to an alternative to sleep, this is also kind of a way for Ryukusa to get a better idea of what she's capable of, now that she's complete?

[X] Cheat – create a Barrier in Himeyuri's apartment and doorway, but ~exclude~ Himeyuri herself.

It takes no time at all to pull a cell phone and text Akari-niji-chan. In the mean time you sit down in the hallway in the center of the building and takes several containers out of ~Nowhere~.

Like most school subjects, chemistry was memorization. You learned more about poisons and anesthetics at home than you did in school, but one set of chemicals was particularly interesting to a hyperactive dragonette who could do things with wind and water that were atypical of the average student.

One of your more peculiar talents that you discovered before you too a trip into hell was the ability to isolate chemicals from one another. With the experience there and your increased strength outside of Barriers, you now have a new use for chlorine bleach and isopropyl alcohol than cleaning up murders and wounds. The byproducts are smelly and unpleasant, but strong, very specific breezes carry the cents out the still open attic access and safely out of the building.

With one notable exception, which you collect enough of to fill a test tube with.

A few minutes later you receive the expected text from Akari. A glance, and you now know that this fellow actually has lived her a fairly long time, and isn't associated with anyone outside a small Buddhist temple that he walks to and from daily. According to Akari-niji-chan, he's a simple mendicant priest there; he's more than well documented.

Most likely safe to ignore.
>>
>>48888360
Also since it seems like noticing Eyes on you necesitates either being a demigod or having some serious mojo in your corner like Hikari, it's at minimum exceedingly unlikely that Himeyuri, or, well, anyone, can make a shikigami that can detect Eyes being active?
>>
>>48888422
Keep in mind that Barriers can be sensed by other spirit children. Do we want to make our existence here obvious?
>>
>>48888552
You chloroform him, Himeyuri-san, the neighbors upstairs, and the neighbors downstairs anyways, using the same potent breezes and the generous amount of liquid chloroform you distilled moments before. When everyone;s heartbeat has slowed to near comatose levels, you disable all the alarms, break into Himeyuri's house, douse and kill her shikigami protectors and warning systems as well as the few wards she has up. Void Eyes is quickly becoming indispensable to your arsenal of tricks. Finally, you form a Barrier about yourself, the unconscious Himeyuri, and everything in her home with Matagama-no-Shitoki's generous help.

With a wicked smile you set to work in the kitchen....

>>
>>48888637
Well, we're not DONE with our outing yet. Let's not tempt fate.
>>
>>48888603
something people have been forgetting in the past few threads is that Ryukusa instinctively tries to minimize all risk and threats when she is planning and executing things. When she thinks a risk is clear enough to warrant consideration, she will usually identify it (as in, the QM will list it as part of the choices, which will generally all have similar issues among them or varying potential problems).

Exceptions are when she cannot identify the risk through ignorance or unfamiliarity, in which case she takes what precautions she can and just goes with what she has the capability of managing; and when she literally has zero time to think through the risks and potential issues and just goes with her gut and instincts - something which scares the heaven out of other Water dragonettes, who don't have that capacity.
>>
>>48888637
Because Akari loves Ryukusa. She doesn't need any other reason to worry.
>>
>>48888573
By using the wish-granting jewel to restore her to being a dragonette and then evolving her into also being a demigod, essentially bypassing the ascension process, did we accidentally rob Nabiki of the chance to have five handsome men join her life, or did they already meet a terrible fate?
>>
Thank you all doe reading and playing.

Also, consider: Ryukusa is whom you have made her; her first and foremost thought is "how will the things I am doing possibly hurt my family if they go wrong?" If she's deciding on how to deal with a problem, she will never have a 'bad choice' that isn't equally bad with every other choice. All consequences can be overcome with the exception of death - and that one doesn't necessarily apply to Ryukusa as it does other people.

A little paranoia is fine. Second guessing Ryukusa into immobility is actually working agaisnt the character you've developed for her. Trust yourselves a little more.

Not that I'm really worried, it's just one more thing we have to break.
>>
>>48888667

Well, to be fair sometime there is *some* things she doesn't take into consideration until we vote to look closer.

>>
>>48888910

>>
>>48888910
Actually Kamuy are LESS alien than Kami. It's Youkai that are really alien.

>>48888918
And there is a mechanic for that as well. If anons hesitate too long over a serious one, Ryukusa will study the problem more in depth, and you lose a choice.

But when the choice is "which hand do I kill this with" the choice isn't about the consequences of said killing - it's what hand Ryukusa is curious or interested in focusing on at the moment (or if she's just feeling sneaky as opposed to dangerous). It's a question about her current tactical outlook, not an attempt to get her killed.

As for Wood eyes - Wood oni-children and dragonettes are very weak to magic. The snake would have does terrible things to them if they had seen it, just by them lookign at it. There isn't a soul or enough of a spirit there to manipulate either, so Wood Eyes would be useless.

>>48888555
Very unlikely. You'd have to be aware of them yourself to 'program' the shikigami to look for them.
>>
It could be argued that as a Water Dragonette who suddenly has more Fire and became something new, as well as someone who tried very hard to control everything about herself for most of her life, Ryukusa's first rational thought and instinct would be to try and slow down to her usual speed.

I mean, she's been trying to live more in the moment lately, and her Water-Void-Fire elements just balanced her in a way more like it. The uneasiness will disappear soon, I'd say.

>>48889001

To answer your question, then, Zen Amako was both old, and also a spirit child, just as Ryukusa is. He wasn't a kamuy to begin with.

Which should make you start wondering about the nature of the mikoto that is Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado.
>>
>>48889268
It's brain chemistry, it will pass. Thank you though.

>>48889295
No, and no. Not even rumors.
>>
Thanks for running!

At least as a Demigod, she'll be able to pay more attention to her Husbandos.

>>48889299
I think that they mean you're more cogent than most. Take complements where you can get them, XS.
>>
>>48889299
He was old? Well that's a bit of a relief, like in the flashback chapter I got the (presumably mistaken) impression that he -hadn't- repeatedly impregnanted his girls, and that was the first time the "princess" had a child on the way, which made me think he must not have been at this Horobi thing too long.

And that answer is -exactly- what I was dreading to hear, but then again it's just one more thing in our way.

Also that means that Kamuy Pauchi -didn't- have a harem because that was its original existence, and the five elements (and one other) are for reincarnations only?
>>
>>48889394
Being older also meant he had more control over his abilities - such as the fertility aspects of a Water dragonne.

>Also that means that Kamuy Pauchi -didn't- have a harem because that was its original existence, and the five elements (and one other) are for reincarnations only?
Yes.
>>
>>48889364
Eh, from experience sometimes compliments can make you feel worse.
>>
>>48889422
Oh so he was a water-dragonne as well. From the way he was described, without horns and a tail I assumed he was either a non-dragon flavored demigod, or a sorcerer/priest who made it REALLY far.
>>
>>48889495
This is a good point, though where his palace is and an arm made of living coral were strong hints.
>>
>>48889422
>Being older also meant he had more control over his abilities - such as the fertility aspects of a Water dragonne.

So Ryukusa as the current incarnation of Horobi got her wife teen pregnant comapred to the last one
>>
>>48889548
It was something of a mutual effort, last I checked.
>>
>>48889519
I mean, yeah that does make a lot of sense, I guess I figured that the palace was just because that's where you've gotta live if you're an ocean deity, and any jackass with a magical destiny can make a limb out of whatever is thematically appropriate.

Now I'm worried about Ryukusa having to sacrifice her tail when she fully ascends, since she's made some real good use out of it.
>>
>>48889548
We did not at all stop there, though XS is right that it was a very mutal effort.
>>
>>48889565
>>48889595

fair enough.

Also the chirldren are currently Dragonettes but after Ryukusa takes on her mantle will they still be dragonettes or demigods?
>>
>>48889605
Huh, that's a good question. Wonder if Inau would know?

Like it doesn't really make sense for it to be retroactive, but then again ~magic~
>>
>>48889605
Dragonettes. Ryukusa, for all her abilities and interestingness, is still a mortal (an immortal one, but still a mortal).

As opposed to a kami or kamuy or an angel.
>>
>>48889627
I meant children concived in the future because I doubt Ryukusa is gonna stop
>>
>>48889644
>is still a mortal (an immortal one, but still a mortal).

Speaking of are our wives immortal or just very longed lived.

If they are mortal is Ryukusa gonna hafta to seek them out assuming they reincarnatie again without her dying too, or is Japan gonna have a real fuckign bad time.

Also Being Horobi and still being mortal makes what the fuck Horobi is more confusing to me
>>
>>48889644
Well that's actually kind of a relief. Like I was a tiny bit worried that to fully become Horobi meant we needed to transform fully into a Kamuy/Kami thus becoming an existence that was still fundamentally Ryukusa but... distilled, crystallized, maybe some "unnecessary" bits being discarded.

It didn't really seem tonally consistent, so I wasn't very concered, but now I can focus more on stuff there actually is to fear.
>>
>>48889675
Spoilers. Though that question has been answered in quest, in a roundabout way.

I will point out that Horobi is a very strange thing even by the standards of kamuy, kami, and youkai.
>>
>>48889422
More disturbingly, does that mean that Nabiki is the reincarnation of something that was -even worse-?
>>
>>48889733
Honestly The Mantle of Horobi is sounding more and more like a feudal title. It's big important comes with a list of associated powers and responsibilities, also apparently double vassalage with the Jade emperor and the aniu getting involved. It's even involves a specific lineage and upbringing and education.

The mantle is a literal mantle isn't it, taken up and passed down and all that

As for the wife being immortal/dieing and reincarnating with/without horobi Er yin and Kiku have lived a long time without Ryukusa and while that doesn't mean Ryukusa is fine without them does mean that the rebirth isn't linked together, or may have to do with how/when they died if Er yin and Kiku got killed before the rest. But that still means rebirth isn't sinked.

Also I'm not sure how living in a heaven works in Japanese myth but can people their even die of natural causes? or is that put on pause?
>>
>>48889942
Keep in mind too that Er Yin and Kiku were acting as a screening system to make sure a worthy incarnation got the chance to be Horobi.
>>
>>48889942
One thing to remember is that Dragonnes and Dragonettes eventually become Demigods after a millennium.
>>
>>48890347
I didn't think they become demigods, I thought it was "just" a blessing from Amaterasu.

Also I guess I figured that dragon-children have almost exactly one thousand years worth of jing, maybe even a little less, so they need to ration it VERY carefully and be pretty exceptional to make it that far.

Their pearls apparently mature and then allow them to become demigods. Check back around the beach episode for more info.
