Heya all, it's that time again
I'm not the OP of any of the other threads, but they're fun so I'm gonna go ahead and declare that it's TRAVELLER CHARGEN TIME

The crew of the Carrhae currently consists of:
Denglebert Jones, PTSD-ridden war hero/combat medic
(creation thread here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/48593389/)
Eszeph Ryan, semi-criminal Space Lawyer
(creation thread here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/48708304/)
James Lee, Pilot with a dark and secret past
(creation thread here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/48833915/)

So, who's next on the Carrhae?

Gotta go with >>48889243, cause they were earlier

Pick 2 background skills to get at level 0 from the following list:
Admin, Animals, Art, Athletics, Carouse, Drive, Electronics, Flyer, Language, Mechanic, Medic, Profession, Science, Seafarer, Streetwise, Survival, Vacc Suit

A desert planet with huge sandstorms, only cities have the ability to make it habitable for humans. Do to this and limited resources, it's a police state and breaking any law, however mundane, can be harsh. Though, some people are crazy and smart to be able to live in the hot sands. Mostly, nomads and raiders.
Something like that. I'm open for change.
>>
>>48889777
That sounds good anon. Given he's streetwise I take it he's a citydweller and not a Not!Fremen?
Maybe from a family of atmos techs, his early life spent scrubbing sand from air-con untis?

Anyway, are we gonna take any higher education?
University requires an EDU roll for entry and an INT roll to graduate.
Army and Marine Academy requires an END roll for entry, while Naval academy requires an INT roll.
All Military Academies require an INT roll to graduate, with a +1 if END is 8+ (which Owen has)

This means he gets three service skills at level 1, +1 EDU, +1 SOC, and an automatic commission to Officer rank in the Navy.

Which three of the skills listed here >>48890137 does he get at +1?

Line Crew (general officer) INT/EDU
Engineering/Gunnery (technical/gunnery officer) INT/EDU
Flight(Fightercraft/shuttle officer) DEX/EDU

Given that he's an ensign on a frigate, how I'd spin it is that his superior officer was knocked unconsious by enemy fire, so he ordered his guns to hold their fire.
The pirates, thinking the Tiger was disabled, moved in to board, which was when Owen ordered a salvo directly into their weapons and engines.

In terms of benefits, he has 5 from his terms, and 3 from his rank, making 8 overall. In addition, his high rank gets him +1 to all benefit rolls.

So, how does he get on the Carrhae? Ezraph is the owner, but given his leadership skills maybe Owen should be the captain? Also he can put his ship shares toward paying off Ezraph's ship mortgage
>>
>>48902385
I like it.
>>
>>48902431
How did we sign up with the Carrhae? Moreover why fid we leave the navy/star fleet?
>>
>>48903035
He retired because Ravanna was promoted to Commender soon after Owen. He didn't want to constantly battle her. After retiring, Owen still felt the desire to explore space and the Carrhae was the perfect choice for him. Using his charms, smarts and leadership skills, he convinced the crew to let him join.
Something like that. Might be too simplistic.
>>
>>48903251
I like the reasoning that he gave up due to not wanting to be at odds with Ravanna (maybe he retired because he wanted her to get over her complex?) but I think something more personal should force him back him into spacing again.
>>
>>48903357
I would say something but I'm terrible at complex stuff. I really need to take some writing classes.
>>
>>48903357
Also, like what you added. Nice touch.

>>48902385
I have more of a gameplay question, since there isn't a general.

Would you divide profits differently if some characters owned shares and others didn't?
>>
>>48903392
Maybe he was tired of others taking the credit and wanted to be on a ship where everyone was equal and your rank didn't matter? Maybe that's why he went back to being a spacer.
>>
>>48903560
I like the first part but I don't think he would discard the ranking. He was in the Navy and probably learn that the ranks are needed for proper planning. Maybe thought this could be a fresh start in spacing for him. Make ranks fair.
>>
Perhaps he felt his career was stymied, and he'd rather take one big gamble on co owning a tramp freighter than wait around for the pension to kick in.
>>

Yeah I think making ranks fair is a more a part of it. He likes structure but wants people to be equal too I think?

There's a couple of ways you could run it. Personally I'd get the players to discuss it amongst themselves until they work out a fair system.
Possibilities include equal pay for everyone with half of income going to ships expenses and combined savings
Alternatively one could have the captain/owner get half of all income, but they are expected to pay for ships expenses out of pocket.
This list isn't by any means exhaustive, the important thing is that your players think it's fair
