Welcome back, everyone, to the fifty-seventh episode of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. I'm Wong, your host, and today you are once again Admiral Roarke S. Starwind of the Iron Kestrels.

My my, I wonder how poor Amos is doing?

Last time, construction began on the Knuckle Kaiser Mk. II. That says it all, really. The Black Ogre is about to become bigger, blacker, and more ogreish.

Over the next few days, you come to a rather humbling realization. You're slowing Karen down. You're a competent mechanic in your own right, with a strong grasp on the basic systems of your mech, but every so often she starts talking about completely unconnected concepts in a way that baffles you, and sometimes, when she doesn't pick up on your confusion, she starts to bridge those concepts together in a way that borders on insanity. For example, she's explaining why the thrusters that were previously attached to the Kaiser's elbows are now mounted as part of the shield assembly, and how she managed to avoid reducing the shield's defensive capabilities in the process of incorporating them. What this has to do with the design of medieval turrets and how they were built to resist cannonfire is a complete mystery to you, but to Karen it makes perfect sense. You think. You can never entirely rule out space madness with this particular daughter of the stars.

On the fourth day, you realize why she's working so slowly, and explaining everything she's doing, and pushing you to do so much of the work herself. She's teaching you. Every time she sees your face light up with understanding, pride washes over her features and she gives you a hug, whether or not it smears you with oil. Some nights, you make love before falling asleep, others you just hold each other close, whispering about fusion cell efficiency and reducing weight through an autolift assembly before drifting into slumber. With all the work you've been doing, it's nice to just spend a few days doing something normal, like improving the Kaiser into its upgraded form, and nicer still to spend time with Karen doing it.

Alright time to be dread pirate Roarke Starwind

Welp, going to have to go for the obvious; This is MY Colony!

Anywho, figured out why that vote was so important. It wasn't us going after the Paladin, but rather taking away half our best units with us while the prisoner and our support crew are at half efficiency.
>>
>>49230406
I'm sure everything will go completely fine and have no terrible repercussions whatsoever

Slowly, the improved Kaiser takes shape. The new armor has a factory-fresh gleam that lets you stop feeling a sense of mild self-consciousness around the Zulfiqar with its heroic sheen that you hadn't even realized was present until you started comparing the two mecha. Realistically, you expect both machines will be scarred and dinged up before two long, but while it lasts you don't want to be outdone by a Martian teenager. The arms are longer, now, the claws reaching past the knees, while the tips of the feet have a cleft (and both sides can move independently, allowing for more precise control of the thrusters there) that makes them resemble hooves.

Karen freely admits that she got the idea for that from the S-Flowerhorn, but hastily adds, “I'm a pirate too, Roarke, I just steal different things. Besides, the rest is original! Although...it helped that I've had four SOUL mecha to study, five counting Mohammed's. Six if you count the Tarrasque since it was supposed to be one.” The shields that were formerly plain walls of metal are now contoured and streamlined to deflect blows rather than just absorb them, while heavy, jointed plates provide additional protection for the leg servos. Even more astounding, although with the additional armor the Kaiser should weigh several tons more than its old self, it actually handles a lot more easily, like a light Morgan II or a Recon Warmouth.

They move out of the way. Engineering the joints on the shield array to be properly protective and not get in the way of punching everything is one of Karen's personal triumphs, and without a proper cross-section you can't quite see the full range of movement those plates have.

Still, your heart isn't entirely at ease, as you explain to Karen while you're sharing lunch, “Aren't you worried the other girls will get jealous?”

She snorts with laughter, “Naaah. Samantha and Clemmy said we should spend more time together, Red Menace is busy preening-I mean preparing for that concert, and Fatima is still in the hospital, right?”

“Samantha and Clemmy agreed on something? I thought they...” Your voice trails off, frowning. You'd sort of assumed they didn't get along, but it's hard to tell since they're rarely in the same place at the same time.

“Clemmy thinks Samantha is a weakling because she's not very subtle herself and doesn't get the whole indirect thing. Samantha thinks Clemmy is a bloodthirsty animal crossed with a strike missile that could explode any day now. Both of them have complained about the other to me, but they don't really hate each other.” She shrugs.

You sigh and take a bite of your meal bar, “What would it take for all of you to just get along? That's all I want.”

She frowns and pats your arm, “We're trying, okay? Rosita and I are making an effort to get along, at least.”

“Good. You two worry me the most. I'm not completely oblivious to how you two are when I'm not around.” You wag the half-eaten meal-bar at her remonstratingly.

This fucking guy. Seriously, I know she's General Fairchild in this quest, but Haman is a 10/10 girl.

I would say that he's complaining about women who were for the most part explicitly villains as if XX chromosomes mean you can't gas a Colony, but the thing I realized after two threads of that guy is that he's literally mentally ill, and one of those people who has made being mentally ill into part of their identity and will actively nurture it. His views on women, and on people in general, are legitimately unhealthy...but so much of what he thinks is unhealthy that it's hard to isolate something specific and go "this needs to be fixed". Odds are he'll be the next CWC.

She smiles innocently, so innocently that you suspect she's taken a few tips from Samantha, “Just mostly oblivious?”

“Hey now, you can't speak to an Admiral that way!” You tease her.

She sticks her tongue out, undeterred, “I've known you since before you were an officer, idiot, I can speak to you however I please. That's my privilege as your girlfriend.” Her smile brightens a little, and she says it again, more quietly, “Your girlfriend.” She reaches across the Kaiser-sized metal finger you're using as an impromptu table and pats your head, “Somebody has to keep you honest. If your head gets too big it won't fit into your helmet.”

“And if somebody doesn't pull your pigtails, you get a smart mouth and a cocky attitude.” You tug on one of them.

“You pull them all the time and it hasn't stopped me.” She points out, a bit smugly.

"I just have to find the right input code. I think it's left-right-right-left-left-left-right-left-both." You posit contemplatively.

She shakes her head, "That just activates my super mode. You don't want to know what that does."

You immediately make a grab for her pigtails, but she was expecting it, grabbing your hands and pulling you in close with a smile, "Riposte!" She purrs, and kisses you. It's a nice kiss.

Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the mechbay, Fatima Ahmad is not in the hospital. Thanks to a combination of upper-class resolve, personal grit, and determination not to laze about, she has regained her footing and returned to duty as a pilot.

As a matter of fact, you knew this because you interfered with her and Shukriya scolding Mohammed, but since she's technically supposed to be taking it easy you neglected to correct Karen.

While you're busy, Fatima is supervising the cleaning and maintenance of the Tarrasque. Unlike when you or Karen supervises the maintenance of something, this involves a lot of delegation and pointing and shouting. Much to the relief of her subordinates, right now she is just musing over her mech with her arms crossed, “Maybe I should paint you pink.” She says to herself contemplatively.

“Yeah, well, s'gonna look even better once I finish altering it for you. Saving some, uh, weight. Removing unnecessary components.” Miles melts out of nowhere, although given her height and the number of crew in the Rhinehawk's bay that isn't particularly difficult.

Fatima glances down at her with the eyes of a hawk that has spotted a weasel. Her voice is dangerously courteous, “And what components of my cutie darling are unnecessary?”

More then anything its asking for attention on a board where were all supposed to be anonymous. Also namefagging lets you form opinions on the poster themselves which either leads you to agree with them because you like them, or never agree with them because you hate them.
>>
>>49231167
The entire point of an anonymous image board is that posters remain anonymous unless absolutely necessary. In so doing, each poster is indistinguishable from the next, and no one person's words or opinion holds more intrinsic weight than another - your significance is determined purely by the quality of your post alone. Needless namefagging is therefore seen as attention whoring.
>>
>>49231167
Well, the reason why is part of the anon culture. Basically, we go anon to avoid using our identities as collateral. Doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, you are an anon. People liking you is determined by if you can make good shit and be a likable person of good merit. It's nice and it takes away some of that cult of personality you see on reddit, tumbler, and facebook.

Miles shrugs, completely nonchalant, her already narrow eyes narrowing just a shade further, “Eh, nothing you'll miss. Just the big, ugly cannon on the front ruining your aerodynamic profile. You can thank me later, buy me a beer or something and we'll call it square.”

Fatima blinks once, then she simply turns away and resumes looking at the Tarrasque as though it was a giant baby, “Go away. You aren't tall enough to reach it anyway.”

Miles' pupils shrink to the size of pinpoints, and her hands tighten into fists. Dude may be a doofus, but he's been her buddy and part of her personal group for years, there are jokes she can take from him that no arrogant Martian daddy's girl who thinks she's so great just because SHE's over six feet tall instead of unable to top five can safely make. Now getting that cannon isn't just a half-joke, it's personal, “I'll find a lifter. Seems to me without MY hands firing that cannon, you'd still be marrying El Beardo and wearing a fancy bit of jewelry. Don't fuck with me, princess. You may be a hotshot pilot on Mars, but I'm an actual fucking pirate.” She reaches up, and deliberately shoves the taller woman, “You don't get to go crying to Roarke in the Kestrels. You're some kind of ace, you gotta handle shit yourself, you don't get to just inherit rank or sleep your way into it. Now are you going to get the fuck out of my way or not?”

So... Anonimity is the true way of letting go of biased information about the veracity of claims by basing the validity of this information on the reputation of the speaker? Creating a pure opinion basing only in the statements and not on who is saying that?

I think i may be starting to understand it... Thanks you Anons.

I think this may really be somekind of superior discussion form...

Fatima stares down at her as though momentarily not sure how to react, confusion written in her features. Which abruptly harden as she raises her hand and puts her palm across Miles' cheek with enough force to send her spinning to the floor. The sheer, stinging volume of that blow echoes over and over again through the mechbay, heads turning to look...and the older Kestrels wisely stepping well away from the confrontation, "Like that?"

Miles is taken offguard and goes down, but it's not her first time being hit. There are a lot of things she's ran away from, and a lot she's tried to forget. She rolls on her back across the bay floor and comes up on a knee with her hand on the butt of her gun, looking up to find that Fatima's hand is positioned similarly on the grip of her own pistol.

“Small gun.” Fatima remarks.

“Wide target.” Miles responds.

That and it's pretty easy to dehumanize someone when all you have is a name and not a human face attached to it.

For all I know, Brazil anon could be Adriana Lima and Mr.Wong could be Vin Diesel.
>>
>>49231427

No, not really. Presumably the "first weapon" isn't special, it just makes the initial math less silly.

Let's say I'm a Martian pilot with a scorpion-themed tank. It has a cannon on each pincer arm, and a cannon on the tail, all linked. Any of those could theoretically be the first weapon, it doesn't matter, if I lose my right arm the left arm and tail cannons would still have linked fire.

In a way it has some values that are similar to a meritocracy. Good ideas/good workers will become known due to their work and style. You see it in some old quests, like Larro and Moloch.

It has its downsides. Since posters are anonymous, people can speak their thoughts more candidly; however, this also means that people are far more likely to get baited, or to brazenly try to bait others. The amount of shitposting is therefore higher.

That's why i value it so much and fear every tentative of censuring someone because the actual group in power doesn't like what they are saying of something...For me, shitposting in solved itself in a way or another...Probably by creating more resistance to baits as time go on and you find it more useless to keep arguing about the same things with people that aren't willing to care about your opinions anyway, or something...

Which is also necessary because certain topics are far too sensitive to discuss without the massive political, cultural, and social stigma tainting it and its participants.

Shitposting are just timewasters that can spawn intelligent discussion or just something fun to do. However, sometimes you'd get the really nasty autists like Virt who has a elf-guro fetish and posts outside our Malaysian batik weaving imageboard to show how plebian we are.

"Did...you just call me fat?" A vein throbs in Fatima's forehead.

"It's part of your name, isn't it?" Miles smirks, without relaxing her stance in the slightest.

"A pity yours isn't very reflective of you. Did you pick a big name because of your height, or did other people just find it ironic?" Fatima's acid words cause Miles to visibly bristle.

"Did you know all Martians are half-goat due to centuries of fucking goats, which is the national pasttime on Mars?" Miles growls. It's not very creative, but it's what she's got.

"That's only HALF the insult I expected, I'm a LITTLE disappointed, but I know your wits are in SHORT supply." Fatima snaps back, ice in her voice.

"Right, bitch, you're going right back to the hospital bed." Miles' hand tightens on her gun, but just then, both of them hear the sound of eminently scornful laughter.

"OHOHOHOHOHOHOHO~! Zese peasants, ma déesse~" Countess Loriette Marie le Kennedy is doubled over in laughter, "Like two petit farmwives fighting over where the hedge between their fields should be, it is most droll, non? Ohohohohoho~!"

Fatima's eyes narrow with dislike. Miles' do the same.

"Did you hear that? She called you a peasant." Miles observes.

"I did. I believe she called you petite as well." Fatima notes.

Loriette is too busy laughing at them to realize the danger she's in until they're looming over her and she feels Fatima grab her hands by the wrists, "Oi! Non! I am not involved in this!" She protests, to no avail.

"Pirates know how to tie knots, correct?" Fatima inquires, smiling speculatively at Miles, "It seems a shame to waste these ringlets nature has given this enemy of mankind."

"I'm the best at tying knots, just ask Richard!" Miles announces proudly, going up on tiptoe to grab a handful of drills and loop them around Loriette's wrists while she squawks in outrage.

Fatima shudders at the thought, "I'd rather not, but feel free to demonstrate your skills here."

Meanwhile, back on your side of the mechbay, Karen Cohen is making out with the man she's loved ever since he joined her father's crew when she spots, briefly, through the crowd, something magical. Namely, Fatima and Miles tying the Paladin's hands together with her own hair. She considers this briefly while she's hugging you and getting her breath back, running her fingers through your pretty orange hair. On the one hand, the Avalonian deserves it for calling her and your precious mech names during the duel between the Knuckle Kaiser and the Anseis. On the other hand...Karen prides herself on her abilities as a mechanic, and the mystery of how, exactly, the Anseis works is one that has nagged away at her brain nonstop ever since she popped open the Anseis' head and found veins of dead plant matter inside. She sincerely doubts that the Countess would share her secrets with her normally...but people are vulnerable when they're isolated, and it certainly wouldn't hurt Roarke to be nice to the girl a little. The only problem is, how to make sure she's the one who handles this rather than you. If you do it, the Countess will just get more starry-eyed and start clinging to you more and generally get in Karen's way, being a huge annoyance.

The gears start to turn in Karen's brain, and she smiles as she kisses your cheek, "Hey, I have some tests I need to run...you should go down to Auditorium and get some fresh air, maybe check in with your teacher. All work and no play makes Roarke a dull boy." She smiles sweetly, "See? I know when I'm being selfish, at least a little. Go get some exercise, you like it better than I do." She scratches your chest, "I think Clemmy went down there already, maybe you'll bump into her. Captain Oda and Mohammed too, he was saying something about it being the next step of Mohammed's training. It's healthy for a man to spend time with his friends."

"Alright." You suspect something is up, you see the gleam in her eyes and know she's plotting something. On the other hand, you can't micromanage a grown woman's life, and if she messes up she'll learn and grow from the experience. You give her one last kiss, "You know I love you, right?"

"I know, and you know I love you too, and always have." She smiles, with a pretty little blush.

You smile at her, and head for the shuttle down to the colony.

You go for a run, then a swim to wash the sweat off, and it's exhilarating. Being able to properly stretch after days spent hunkered over your mech's internal frame makes you feel good all over, and you're in a fantastic mood. Your hair is still damp as you wander through the city. You're thinking about picking something up for one of the girls, when your keen nose detects something delicious. It's the scent of fresh coffee, with a hint of hazelnut. It's a familiar scent.

You turn your head, and notice the source. Surely it can't be...but it is. The little maid cafe has the Storm Dragon sigil on a sign by the door, tucked onto a hillside. The sign is in the ancient runes of far-off Nippon, so you've never quite picked up the name of this chain, but you'd recognize one of Oda's establishments anywhere.

The other thing you recognize is the voice, yelling, "You call this a tip!? Jerk, don't you have any consideration for proper service!? I'm an innocent maiden saving up for marriage, show some compassion! Bastards who'd cheat a poor, hardworking girl deserve a kick in the balls!"

You peek through the window, and what you see astounds you.

Lieutenant Alice Farragut Clementine, the ace of SOUL B, the Butcher, the terror of the UJCIDF, has a tray slung under her arm, with its edge pressed against the throat of a portly businessman who is most likely one of Red Siren's guest/hostages. With her other hand she's brandishing a receipt. The violence isn't what surprises you, it's her outfit.

Lacy black and white, with high stockings, a frilly skirt, black bustier over a puffy white shirt, shiny black shoes, and a white lace headband. No matter how many times you look, she's clearly dressed as a maid.

"Clemmy-chan, no! Not our beloved customers!" Oda protests, hovering behind her.

"A-a-alright!" The businessman hurriedly scrawls an extra zero on the receipt, and the pressure of the tray's edge eases on his throat.

"Yay! Thank you for your patronage, sir! Please come again any time!" She smiles, all sunshine and rainbows suddenly, bowing deeply.

The man dabs his brow with a hankerchief, and glances sidelong at Oda, "...Do you have any more like her that AREN'T getting married?"

The pirate captain shakes his head, "Clemmy-chan is a unique and precious person, betrothed to my dear friend and aniki. There are no others like her."

"Awww." The man seems disappointed, "Well, that's alright. Congratulations on your marriage." He bows awkwardly in return, and shuffles out as you make your way inside. The air outside feels awfully warm even after your swim, Red Siren is probably having a bikini day and wanted the weather to match, so the cool air inside the cafe is a blessed relief.

Clemmy's piercing eyes fixate on you immediately, "ROAAAAARKE!" She squeals, vaulting over an empty table so as not to waste fractions of a second in getting to you, the apron around her waist flapping, "HUSBAAAAAND!" She leaps into the air, going fully horizontal in the manner of a leopard pouncing on a gazelle, tackling you and sending you staggering back into the gashapon machines. She rubs her cheek against your chest and digs her fingers into your sides, "Roarke~ My Roarke~ My precious, sweet Roarke~"

Mohammed, surrounded by maids cooing over him and petting his fluffy hair, peeks at you over the back of the booth he's sitting at, giving you an awkward nod and smile, "Salaam, Admiral."

"Hello Moe. Hello Yoritomo. Hello beloved wife." You lean down and kiss her, and she shivers with happiness, kissing you as if trying to breathe you in, her fingernails raking gently along your back.

Eventually, you disentangle yourself, "Clemmy, what are you doing here? Why are you dressed like that? I mean, besides for me, because I like it." You squeeze her, and she coos happily.

"I'm working!" She announces cheerfully.

You blink in surprise, "Working? Why?"

She harrumphs, "Ask Colonel Re-mean-a Saggybutt."

"Hey!" Mohammed protests.

She sticks her tongue out at him, "Little Mohammed hush, I'm mad at her!"

You blink in surprise, "Why? What did she do to you?"

She harrumphs again, more angrily, "Nothing! That's the problem! She could discharge me from the UJCIDF, but...she said she couldn't give me my pension because TECHNICALLY SOUL B is directly under Fairy, so Fairy's my boss and would have to sign the papers. It's not fair! That sneaky little Sam is lounging about enjoying her pension...and the money she already had because she's a dirty rich girl...while poor, hardworking me had to find a job to make ends meet. Oda's a nice guy, though, he said since I'm an imouto 'cause I'm your special girl I could work for him."

"...Course, I didn't know what an imouto was at first, so I kind of wounded him a little, but that's okay! It was just his arm, and it didn't hit a vein! He's fine, he's fine, right boss?" She smiles prettily.

Oda gives her a thumbs-up, "Everything's daijobu, barely a scratch. It was worth it to see such a sugoi yandere in full swing."

"See? Oh Roarke...I'm gonna make you so proud of me, yes I am~ I'm good with the customers, they all give me lots of tips! I'll be able to afford to take you on DATES!" She grabs your hands and pulls you down into a booth, "Boss! I'm going on break!"

Oda rubs his head, looking concerned, "Clemmy-chan, you just took a break, you've only waited one table since coming back, you can't just..."

"ROARKE IS HERE! I'M ON BREAK!" She snarls, her lips pulling back to bare sharp, white teeth.

"H-hai, since it's for aniki's sake, go ahead." He sighs. Poor Oda.

"Hold on. You should have money." You protest, "The Kestrels are all paid, I'll have a word with Richard and..." You stop talking as she presses a finger to your lips.

"Shhh, Roarkey. First, I've kinda...held off on becoming an Iron Kestrel. I mean, deciding to become a pirate, like, formally instead of unofficially is kind of a big deal, right? Besides, there haven't been any big hauls since I joined. Mars was pro-bono, except for Rosie and the loot she got. Besides, there's stuff I want to buy myself, and...and someday I want us to have our very own home together." She smiles, and there's not a trace of violence in it, just the smile of a young woman in love. She kisses your nose and skips away, returning shortly with coffee for the two of you.

"That's great!" Honestly...the idea appeals to the part of you that still has trouble believing how famous you've grown. A nice little cottage with Clemmy, a few children to keep you both busy, waking up to her cute smile every morning. For some reason, in your imagination it's on a snowy mountainside. You've never seen real snow. Sure, some colonies that celebrate a winter holiday make it snow once or twice a year in celebration, but never enough to form the white blankets over the ground that you've seen in Species of Earth. Yes, a nice, warm cottage, with a bearskin rug in front of the fire and snow falling outside the window. That would be perfect. Of course, you'd want the rest of your harem there too, and your friends, which presents a problem because cottages are generally small and cozy...but imagination doesn't have to be a slave to reality.

"Speaking of cottages, do you want to meet my teacher? He has a little cottage up in the hills outside of town, maybe we could go there later?" You smile at her, taking a sip of your coffee.

She nods enthusiastically, "Yes! Later, definitely later, but yes, I want to meet him!" She frowns, "I heard he beat you up. That doesn't make me happy at all, no no, but it's a good thing too. It means he's strong, so you can learn a lot from him." She smiles again.

"That's my special girl." You grin at her, and she rubs her foot against yours underneath the table. "Speaking of money..." You add, reflecting on it, "And about that ten swords thing you mentioned..."

She interrupts you, "TEN SWORDS! It's going to be AMAZING! UNSTOPPABLE! All we've gotta do is replace Drillhead's mech's drills with beam sabers and my lovely Flowerhorn will mount a full ten plasma blades, enough to annihilate ANYTHING!" She sighs, caught up in blissful imaginings of mauling other mecha with her upgraded SOUL machine.

You've seen footage of the fight between her and Red Siren. Sure, she lost, but the specs on the Flowerhorn make it a close-combat monster and the fact that Rosita's mech is a rampaging feminine beast that excels in fighting mecha exactly like Clemmy's is something you can't hold against her. Besides, you're fully aware that the moment Red Siren actually took a hit her subordinates would interfere whether she wanted them to or not...and honestly, you don't think she would stop them. Oda might like his honorable duels, but Red Siren doesn't play that way and never has, her solo fights are all about showing off and proving her abilities as an ace. It makes you happy that they're friends, they're both aggressive, big-hearted women with a penchant for showing off who take their ace credentials very seriously. The S-Flowerhorn, at any rate, is already a very strong mech, and upgraded with the Anseis' drones...it would be amazing to watch.

"Karen talked to me about it. We're going treasure hunting for an old factory that might have the systems to make it work without the Avalonian style of mech design. You'd be entitled to a share of profit from the loot, plus the upgrades." You tilt your head to one side, looking her over, "Although that outfit does look nice."

She inhales to puff up her chest and poses a little, "You really like it?"

You nod, "I love it. Anyway, there isn't any hurry for you to make important life decisions like becoming a pirate. The S-Flowerhorn wasn't at Fatima's wedding, and you have three months before the Space Jam Tournament and Red Siren's joint concert. General Fairchild's attending to negotiate for Loriette, you could ask her to sign your retirement papers then. It gives you time to decide if becoming a pirate is really what you want. Or if you choose to, you could do something more legal that keeps you close to me. Whatever happens, all I want is for you to be happy."

She blushes, raising a hand to her cheek, "You...you're really not pressuring me even a little. Oh Roarke, my Roarke...you...you've always been nice to me." She smiles shyly, "You know, I had a crush on you from the first time we met. I was all set to get in a fight that day, but you didn't flinch when you saw me the way everyone else does, you stared back at me and then told me I was cute and you wanted to be with me and...and after that I couldn't stop thinking about you. Every night, I had to sleep naked because of the heat I felt, thinking about you. I'd hug my pillow and pretend it was you. Then I saw footage of you fighting and there was just so much passion in it, I couldn't control myself. I wanted to tear through your cockpit armor with my fingernails, pull you out, and do things to you that I can't even think about without blushing." Her face is red, and she's starting to pant. "Then, no matter how many times Fairy said you were just using me and I should only trust her because we're best friends forever, you always were so warm and funny when we sent messages to each other. No matter how much space there was between us, I had your words, and I'd read them over and over again and feel my heart melt. For once, I didn't care what everyone else on the ship thought about me, or that they'd whisper that I was a monster when they thought I couldn't hear them because of what I did to Captain Irving and his crew. I was your girl, just your girl, and it made me so happy I could cry." Tears gather in the corners of her eyes, one trickling down her cheek as her voice wobbles, "T-then you told me you wanted to save the nice Doctor and little Athena, and I realized it didn't matter that you're a pirate, you're a good person, and I stopped wanting...stopped wanting as much, I mean...to kidnap you and persuade you to join SOUL and fight for Jupiter. All I wanted was to be with you." She grabs one of your hands in both of hers and squeezes it tight.

"You're my special boy. My only one." She whispers, gazing at you with her heart in her eyes.

"You want to know a secret?" You lean in closer to her, your voice shaking just a tiny bit, "I've loved you since we met too."

She cries out incoherently and throws her arms around your neck, hugging you tight.

Over her shoulder, you can see Oda dabbing a tear from his eye with a napkin. The maids seem concerned, but he waves them away, "It's daijobu, it's just...it's all so kawaii." Jove bless the big guy.

"You're not a monster, you're the woman I love." You tell her.

She smiles tenatively, "I...really did kill a lot of people, though. The worst part is, I enjoyed it. They deserved it." She kisses you, as soft as the brush of a pixie's wing across your lips, "I don't like talking about what happened, so this'll be the one time, okay?" She takes a deep breath, "I was a sergeant, back then. Newly promoted, but I was really good, a natural, they said. They gave me a custom Palomino and everything. I was in the extrasolar division, serving under Captain Irving on the Porcellus." She shivers, "I was a different person, back then. I had a lot of friends, and...and people said I was nice and bubbly and sweet. Captain Irving was strict and distant, but I thought he was cool." Another shudder wracks her body, "We were sent to Paley's World. It's the only inhabitable planet out of four in the system, there was a drive to set up colonies there and mine the other three. I thought it was exciting, an honor. Captain Irving didn't, he saw it as banishment. He wanted more from life, he wanted to rule. So he decided we were gonna turn pirate." She shakes her head violently, "I dunno if you can really call it a mutiny when the Captain leads it, but that's what happened." Her voice is quiet, almost a whisper.

"His core personnel took control of the crew, anyone who was of 'questionable loyalty' was killed. For most of them, it wasn't very quick." Her nails dig into your skin even through your jacket, "I had to watch, and by the time it was my turn...I...I didn't want to die. Not like that. Not in ways where you can't even scream after the first parts. So I did things, so that I wouldn't die. To the mutineers. To the Captain. Even to the other captives. I...I killed people for them, and it wasn't pretty. People who had been my friends. I killed them so I wouldn't die, and some part of me went away somewhere I couldn't follow it. I stopped caring whether I lived or died, that was an emotion for people who were still pure and clean, all I wanted to do was hurt the people who hurt me, but I buried it so deep I couldn't even think about it and smiled as much as I could. Eventually, they trusted me. Not enough to let me have my mech, but enough to let me work in the kitchens...and the one thing that had kept me alive after I stopped caring about life finally found a chance to blossom. I'd studied chemistry at the Academy, I knew what I could do with the cleaning solvents we had on board." Her voice is a ragged whisper, ebbing and flowing like the tide across a rocky beach, "I hated myself for fighting in such a cowardly way, but there were so many of them. I ate the same food they did that night, what little I was allowed, but purposely threw it up and hid it. The rest of them died. Either the poison got them, or I did, with a little steak knife. Captain Irving loved steak. He survived, covered in his own vomit and screaming his lungs out. I tied him to the bridge chair and I cut...and I cut...and I cut until there was nothing left of him I could recognize. There were still the pilots on duty, though. I took the Captain's ID card and got to the mechbay."

Thank you good sir. My first Mecha anime was Gundam Wing. I just loved the look of Tallgeese versus all the others. Plus the Gundam heads just didn't jive with me. Add in that it's verniers were so strong that it caused injuries to lesser pilots and I just fell for it. Too cool man.

The thing is, I have been looking at ways to make the big ol flail viable. See, when you have throwing weapons, they are affected by how much kills your arm has. Weapon mounts function the same way.

What I am getting at is, I am going to make a armored heavy machine with command armor and a mount for the 20 kill iron ball of armor piercing goodness.

"They realized something was wrong, of course. I had killed the bridge crew, after all, and all the mecha on patrol were trying to get back on board. I got my own Palomino back, and I fought them in the bay itself. They couldn't use their missiles effectively there, and their cannons weren't as useful when they couldn't maneuver. None of them could beat me in close quarters, I cut them to pieces and used their broken mecha as shields. I killed, and I killed, and I killed, and I hunted down the ones who tried to flee and killed them too. When I was done, I took a suit of power armor from the ship's armory and I did a thorough sweep of the ship. Some of the crew were still hiding, but they couldn't get away from me. I stabbed them until my knife and the Captain's officer sword broke, then I started strangling and crushing them. The worst...the worst part is, I was happy. I was finally getting revenge, and when it was done, I was by myself. I planned on killing myself, too, but I couldn't. I just existed, floating in the metal womb of the dead ship, surrounded by the memories of dead people. I was there for a long time. Some days, I forgot to eat. We had plenty of meal bars for emergencies, standard procedure, and it was easily enough to feed one girl...but I just couldn't keep track of the time. Some days, I forgot to sleep, I just watched the stars wheel outside the viewport and pretended I was one of them. And then one day a search party showed up." She shudders, and you get up, move around the table, and take her into your arms for a fierce hug. She keeps talking, the words becoming a little more steady, still quiet so only you can hear, "...Fairy was a Captain back then, in command of her first ship. To tell the truth, I didn't think she was real, at first. I almost attacked her too, but I didn't have the strength left. She carried me back to her ship and nursed me back to health. She said it wasn't revenge, it was justice."

"For once, Fairchild and I are in complete agreement." There's a growl to your voice you've only heard once or twice before. The last time you can concretely pin it down, it was when you put an end to Rashad Abujamal on the red sands of Mars, "It was justice, and you're no monster. You did what had to be done."

She's shaking in your arms, her face wet as it presses against your throat, "I...I just wish I was still that happy girl, the person I was before, someone clean, someone normal."

You shake your head, "The only Clemmy I know is you, and I love you. I always will. You're you, and you're perfect. You'll always be you, and that's all I need. No matter what happened, no matter what happens, I love you."

"When I'm with you...when I'm with you, I'm human again." She murmurs.

You shake your head, "You're always human. Humans are capable of great things, but also terrible things. But...it really makes me happy, knowing that I can bring you some peace."

She smiles up at you, her face streaked with tears, "You're so beautiful when you smile at me like that." She whispers, touching your cheek, "More beautiful than the stars." She fumbles around for a napkin and starts wiping her face off, "Let...let's go for a walk, I need to move, even though I'm comfy being held." She smiles tentatively at you, and you nod.

Oda tosses you a box of pocky as if he was throwing a kunai, and you catch it adroitly. You and Clemmy each eat one as you walk hand-in-hand down the yellow-cobbled streets of Auditorium, the wind blowing off the lake carrying a relaxing coolness that's a welcome relief from the heat.

It's a while before either of you talks again, but when it happens, you start it, "...So how did the General take the news about, you know, us?"

Starship Idols is Idolmaster meets Starship Troopers. Pretty good, run by GermanSchteel if you know him.

Shipgirl Commander is KanColle. Less wacky than Planefag and Merc's takes on the franchise, more down-to-earth with a lot of character interaction.

Magical Girl for Hire is exactly as it says. Is actually pretty good, for a subject as often used as magical girls.

She wrinkles her nose, "I don't think she's very happy. Not just at you, but in general. I don't know what to do, there is a lot she needs to answer for, but she won't. She can't. There's something inside her that will never stop being hungry for something she can't have, and it's gonna grow and grow and grow until it gobbles her up. Even if she got whatever she wanted, it wouldn't be enough, it would never be enough she'd just want something else." She sighs, "I hate it. I feel so sorry for her, and there's nothing I can do to help. She doesn't WANT help. I sent her a message about the wedding, she said I was being stupid and you were using me, then she went on a rant about men being predators and stuff about how only women actually feel love and I just sort of tuned it out because that's just...that's just how she is, you know? I never really thought about it until now, I guess because I never really thought I had the right to think of someone else as not being normal."

"I don't know much about being normal either." You admit.

"My Roarke is better than normal." She insists, then she spots something along the street and her eyes go wide, "Eeeee! Roarke, Roarke! There's a pet store, a pet store! Can we go in? Please? I love pet stores! Especially those little animals that look like cute chubby mice with the stuffy-puffy cheeks and wittle-bittle taily-waileys! Let's goooo!" She pulls you by the arm, and with a smile you comply. You have a good idea of what she's talking about, and what you're going to get for her, after all.

[Meanwhile, on board the Iulia Maesa, shortly after the interview with Gretchen and General Fairchild hearing about the wedding...]

She's not a Green Man. She's not THAT ridiculous. That said, part of it's shock that someone would actually lay hands on her, let alone tie her up with her own drills, part of it's because a noblewoman is expected to exhibit proper decorum and not immediately resort to violence, and part of it is that she flat-out has never been bullied before. Granted, when she was a cripple, some of her fellow nobles were very unkind to her, but only one could potentially be considered a bully and that's her nemesis, so it's easy for her to mistake actual malice for a joke.

>>49236236

She has excellent physical stats. Much, much, much better than what she started out with (particularly considering she was a cripple with allergies to a shocking spectrum of medicines, with very low Body, Movement, and Reflexes). Going from that to Clemmy-tier physicality is a massive, massive improvement. Although one could argue that she deserved it for mocking two temperamental pirate women holding guns, her situation is indeed a little sad. Perhaps showing her some warmth would help.

Because there's no guarantee things won't get even more sad for her.

One thing to remember, too, is that in her culture peasants aren't treated the same way as the nobility. Normally this isn't great for the peasants, however it also carries the connotation that since peasants belong to a lord that it's an incredible insult to discipline another lord's peasants rather than report their misbehavior and demand punishment be meted out.

Honestly? I follow a shitload of quests, and other anons listed quite a fair bit of the ones that are good and run fairly frequently. But I really recommend you get into House & Dominion Quest. Not only is it the longest running quest on /tg/ right now, it is also very high quality. It IS extremely complex and the story and lore is downright labrynthian though, so only the most dedicated can get into it, kind of like the EVE of quests. If you can stomach reading through 5 years of threads and it's own wiki, H&D is for you.
>>
>>49236356
I just wonder whether her and roarkes special thing should be one of those things, cause dancing kinda emphasizes her legs which were a gift from the lady, if we're trying to lessen her attachment to the lady maybe we should take to carrying her around cause thats something we'd like to do with her even without the lady's upgrades. or I might just need sleep and its not a concern at all.

>>
>>49236329
I meant her in general. Litterally nothing has gone right for her, everyone's either screwing her over or planning to, the current auction on her life is her crucifixion against no other offers.

We rob her, our wife robs her even more, everyone makes fun of her for turning to you to resolve this which turns out to be a culture thing, and the only reason shes not being left to die in hair bondage is so a different wife of yours can abuse her trust to figure out how her mech works which is the only thing anyone else cares about her for.

The only person who vaguely doesn't want her to suffer horribly is Roarke and even then we've mostly mocked her with overly dramatic fake apologies.

She's like a galactic meg griffin.

The fact that being mean to her is the only reason Fatima or Miles havn't killed each other is a entirely different problem that is no less sad.

This entire ships doomed.

Bethany Cabot sighs, putting down the hand mirror she's using to fix her hair with. She's very proud of her hair, and she has a right to be. It's a magnificent ebony mane, perpetually slightly disheveled due to its volume and healthiness, giving the impression that she's just recently slipped out of a bed she's sharing with someone regardless of whether she has or not. In fact, everything about her adds to that impression, her curves are magnificent, her eyes are lively, her skin is utterly flawless, and all added up it's conspired to make her just a little bit vain and she knows it. Despite her incredible talent, both as the aide to the general in charge of the Solar System's defenses and as a pilot, she's always considered her good looks her most useful asset. They got her this job, after all. If things had gone a little better, they could have gotten her married to the son of Rudolph Merrow himself once...but the little shit hadn't even bothered to pay her the attention she deserved despite the fact that a beautiful woman seven years older than him had been trying her damnedest to flirt with him.

At least General Fairchild appreciates her. Granted, General Fairchild has plenty of her own problems, but for a woman her age she's still beautiful enough to turn heads, and that part of Bethany's job isn't unpleasant. Usually. Seeing the General stumble over herself trying to please that ungrateful blonde slut Alice Farragut makes her teeth ache with indignation, and in a way she's glad that stupid bint got herself looted by pirates.

I understand it isn't for everyone though, shitloads of anons have tried to get into the quest over the years, and most people stop at the archives. Despite all of the other problems that day caused. Despite the massive, massive headache she had afterwards and how she couldn't relax at all because she was too busy helping a drunken, bawling General Fairchild calm down. But that's okay. Bethany has always been a problem-solver, someone who likes building order out of chaotic circumstances, and she got into this job of her own accord knowing what sort of difficulties it would entail.

Which is why the events currently transpiring force her to put her mirror down and pay attention, as much as she might personally dislike hearing Roarke Starwind hurt the General's feelings live on JNN by flirting with Gretchen Colburn...who the General herself wanted to tap for some reason, although as far as Bethany is concerned, Gretchen is a chubby little pig with a childish hairstyle who collects TOY MECHS like a LOSER. There are a lot of people Bethany dislikes, some for better reasons than others, but one wouldn't guess at it from her tranquil, princess-like composure and attitude of the unobtrusively decorative aide.

That redheaded egomaniac is grinning at the camera and boasting about how well things are going for him. That's nice. He's an asshole, as far as Bethany is concerned, someone who should have had the grace to just die. He's worse than a cockroach. If you step on a roach and it doesn't die, it just squirms around with its squished guts stuck to the floor until it expires or crawls off to heal. It doesn't balloon into a gigantic, carapaced monster big enough to devour you and go on a city-wide rampage.

>So, how is the protagonist
She is an amazingly competent woman with a few oddities because 4chan who is extremely fond of salvage, and has had virtually zero husbando wars so far.

>And the passage of time in this quest
It's been almost a decade in quest, and we've seen the MC go from lowly starship pilot, to controlling a small space empire with several large fleets at her command.

>is this some kind of "Cape&Dagger" setting
Honestly speaking, it is a mix of space/ground combat, strategy, economic warfare, business building, intrigue and political posturing, among other things.

I'll just stop here, don't want to shit up the quest with shilling.

So, I think we can all agree that Bethany is probably Fuckface.

Yup. Thats the first mate. Even down to the vanity and considering herself so damn good. Least we know who we're gonna crush!

"Life is a crazy, magnificent mess. I've been lucky enough to meet five beautiful women who are willing to spend their lives with a scoundrel like me. I suppose it was always inevitable that things would end up this way, and I couldn't be happier. Fatima Ahmad, Karen Cohen, Rosita Kim, Alice Farragut, and Samantha Blanchett, five women I've loved deeply for some time, are planning to make me their husband. Yes, Pierre, that means I really did make an honest woman out of your sister in the end." He points at the camera, grinning cheerfully.

“'Sister'” Bethany says, making fingerquotes, “What a laugh. Ma'am? Ma'am, are you alright?” Normally, a joke like that would have gotten a laugh, similar jokes about Roarke Starwind getting an unexpected surprise from his captive were the only thing that kept the General from entering a berserk rage when that old fool Stern let the S-Betta get stolen out from under his nose, but this time there's nothing. Dead silence.

“He's really taken her.” The General's voice has a strange note to it. Forlorn, almost.

Bethany suppresses her irritation with difficulty. Is it just because the General can't have Lieutenant Farragut, who seems completely oblivious to her unsubtle advances? Does this woman only want things she can't have? Two women lounging in a General's luxury suite, wearing nothing but bathrobes, watching the news together on the couch after taking a bath together, should have better things to do than worry about some half-sane monster only good for killing things, but Bethany is a professional, her voice is calm and dry as she notes, “That's what pirates do.”

“Don't backtalk me!” The back of the General's hand across Bethany's face isn't unexpected, nor is it the first time she's felt it, but it feels like there's more force to it than usual, “Why!? Why would he DO that!? He has her mech, he has all the information I've let her have, he's publicly embarrassed me AGAIN, what's the point of marrying her? Rubbing it in my face? Finding one last way to grind me into the dirt because he's still angry about Suleiman?” Anger rises like a tide of blood on the older woman's face, “You should have heard him after he beat that Paladin. So smug. So contemptuous. I did just what you said, I swallowed my pride and I talked to him officer to officer. I lowered myself down onto my belly and CRAWLED to put myself on that corsair scum's level, and what did he do? Mocked me. Threw his damned brother in my face. Do you think anyone else even would have cared whether those two brats lived or died? I'm the reason the little shits didn't end up begging on the streets, and all I asked in return from Cassius was a little loyalty and respect. He failed to deliver, and still his younger brother acts like I owe him for that traitor's death.”

“He's inviting you to the wedding, ma'am.” Bethany notes neutrally, paying attention to the television and trying to ignore her stinging cheek.

“Of course he is! He wants to rub it in my face, like I said!” Hermione snaps, “I bet he's the reason why she messaged me about the wedding even before this, he probably told her to do it knowing I'd think she was just being delusional so he could spring the confirmation on me like this.” Her voice sinks into bitterness, “Well it worked. Congratulations, Starwind.” She looks up, and touches the red mark on Bethany's cheek, “I'm sorry. I hurt you, didn't I?”

The aide smiles, calmly taking the General's hand in hers and kissing each of her fingertips, her tongue ever-so-lightly brushing flesh on the last one, “Not very much. Come here.” She opens her arms up, and takes the shorter woman into her embrace, stroking her hair, “I promise you, we'll kill him.”

The General sighs, closing her eyes and resting her head on her aide's chest, “Should we? Yes, the Green Skulls failed in every conceivable way, despite the stellar performance of the S-Slayer, but that doesn't mean the idea was bad. Sooner or later, Roarke Starwind will put himself in a position to turn the entire solar system against him, and then, with the clamoring support of the senate, I will burn every hole he seeks to hide him in and stick him in the filthiest cell on the most barren penal colony I can find and watch him rot from a comfortable distance. I just know that Stern is involved with him somehow, and if Regina was clever enough to be a threat instead of another moth drawn to his deadly flame I'd assume the same of her."

The possibility that Floyd Beck didn't die by King Swordfish's hand. His identity yes, but with the fact we never got picture of the hero and the fact Beck is a name that is British, it could possibly be Roarke's dad.

“See, that's my future Planetary Chairwoman.” Bethany injects a note of warmth into her voice, while wondering how she herself would look in a General's uniform. Pretty fucking hot, if she says so herself. And she will. Just not out loud. She knows she has rewards coming to her, no sense in fucking it up now, “You did nothing wrong, and history will reflect that. You approached him, you were mature and sensible, and he reacted like a greedy, petty pirate who thinks with his dick. Just as we both knew he would.”

Fairchild sighs and pulls Bethany's robe open, to rest against bare flesh, “All of this would be so much simpler if Ms. Lorde had carried out her assignment properly. Where is she, anyway?”

The aide smiles indulgently, “Where you left her. Can you blame Rebecca for not wanting to come back to the nest after what happened? By the way, idiot or not, you should try to at least make nice with Regina Hatsheput now that she's been promoted to running the Planetary Guard. That's the personal guardian force of the Chairman himself we're talking about.” She strokes the General's hair as she talks.

Fairchild shakes her head, lodging her face even further in soft, pillowy cleavage, “It's too late for that. We've despised each other ever since we were at the Academy, working directly under me was probably the most unpleasant assignment she's ever had.”

Oucht, this is worse than i imagined, they are not only broken and evil... But together they awaken the worse in each other...
This explain why it's futile to try to dissuade her of anything, they will just make up some "headcannon" of reality in their minds racionalize their doing as something acceptable...
I feel like Bethany may be more outright EVIL than Fairchild in a direct way, but she seems the type to be very calculist of what she is doing, and to not believe her own lies, while Fairchild is utterly inrrealistic in the end even if she is not a cold psycopath.

Huh, this information may be worth something in the long run.

Bethany rolls her eyes, and privately wishes that, just for once, her superiors could set aside the grudges and politics that she personally believes are the reason why Avalon hasn't been crushed yet, but she's far too good at what she does to say so, “Are you sure about letting Lysa do this concert? I don't see the point.”

“It's not your job to.” Fairchild grumbles, “It was her idea, and she went ahead with it without consulting me. Let her sing about peace and love and understanding and how much she loves her empty-headed boyfriend, even if he's by far the least valuable pilot in B despite his parentage.”

“Don't let him hear you say that.” Bethany teases her boss, twirling a strand of pink hair around one of her long, supple fingers, “He's been strutting around like a bantam ever since he managed to hit Roarke Starwind once. Insufferable boy.”

“I don't suffer him. I deal with him as little as possible so I don't have to contain the urge to just reach out and smash his stupid, self-satisfied face with a paperweight. Lysa wants him, Lysa can deal with him, I already have enough irritating men around between Josiah McAllister and Trevor Luxol.” The General sighs.

Bethany blinks abruptly, “Trevor Luxol, the Chairman's son? Why is he involved?”

Fairchild growls, and abruptly stands up, “Because he wants to interfere, obviously. That pompous dandy can't help sticking his nose where it's not wanted, nobody ever smacked it back where it belongs.” She sets the interview to record, then turns off the screen, “Clemmy really isn't coming back, is she? She's Starwind's now.”

Bethany nods slowly, putting every ounce of effort into looking sincerely regretful. She suspects she's failing, but the General doesn't notice.

General Fairchild adjusts her robe, “To hell with it, I don't have to dress properly on my own ship. Come on. She never let me into her room while she was here, perhaps there's some evidence of Starwind blackmailing her or...or something.”

Bethany rolls her eyes when Hermione isn't looking, doubting that possibility strongly. Instead she forces her voice into kind, gentle tones, "Ma'am...I don't think Lieutenant Farragut would take being blackmailed lying down."

The General nods shortly, "You're probably right, but...I have to know. For my own sake, I have to know what he did to Clemmy."

Bethany hugs herself, an unexpected hot snake of jealousy coiling up in her stomach. The words slip out before she can think too hard about them, "And what would you do if he did the same thing to me? Stole me away?"

General Fairchild pauses with her hand on the calling button for the turbolift.

Bethany winces, the aide expecting a sudden outburst of violence or soul-flaying words. She doesn't expect what actually happens.

Fairchild turns around and looks at her, silently. For just a moment, all of the grandeur and dignity of her office, the waspishness and harshness left by years of pain and corruption, of scrabbling for power until her fingers bled, is gone, and Bethany can see the beautiful, lonely girl beneath. That girl smiles, and says simply, "I'd lose everything."

Bethany's heart thumps in her chest, "I...it would be impossible for me to fall for a man like him, it's just..."

The lift arrives, and the General smiles, ice creeping back into it, "I already know. Come along." The two of them ride together, then take a particular corridor, ignoring the MP who stares a little at the sight of the two women in fuzzy military-issue bathrobes. General Fairchild swipes her ID through the door of a certain room, and opens the door.

Something about this stinks to high heavens. Fairchild for all her plots seems too brash. Quick to jump to conclusions and assumptions and managed to get the facts about Stern and Captain Christmas Cake wrong.

Inside is the lair of a beast.

The bed has been disassembled, the matress tossed casually in the middle of the floor. A floor that the General stops short of actually treading on, causing her aide to almost bump into her before seeing what's inside for herself. “...Oh my.” Bethany mutters with a trace of vindictiveness, but fortunately the General isn't listening.

From all over the floor, confident grins and piercing blue eyes adorning countless long pillows smile mockingly at the general, piled up higher around the mattress to form a sort of nest. Pictures, drawn in crayon and pen, with the childish clumsiness of an adult who doesn't habitually practice art, cover the walls, all showing variations on the theme of a man with long orange hair in romantic situations with a girl with a cute blonde shoulder-length cut. Pictures of them raising children. Pictures of them on a date. Pictures of them in wedding attire. Pictures of him carrying her princess-style. Pictures of them kissing, drawn close-up. Some of the pictures are considerably more adult in nature, fitting with the large number of sex toys secured to the pillows scattered all over the floor. Hanging from the ceiling is a poster-sized mugshot of Roarke Starwind from his first arrest back when he was a surly teenager involved with illegal underground bare-knuckle boxing on California Station.

There's even a pillowfort along one wall, its interior bristling with marital aids. An open closet door reveals a half-finished wax sculpture of Roarke Starwind, a recent effort and probably abandoned when she left.

The General stares at it all in silence for several minutes. When she does speak, her voice is dry and slightly cracked with the effort of self-control, “Bethany...”

“Yes, ma'am?” Her aide answers.

“Get the flamethrower.”
