How would you set a high fantasy setting in the ruins of our world?
>>
Shadowrun, but people are actually nice to each other.
>>
>>50661608
High leveled anima game.

The ruins of your reality lie beneath the surface, break the ormus system and go back in time to stop the time where everyone forgot.
>>
>>50661608
Go read Shanara then come back if you still can't figure it out.

Lady Liberty and Mary fused into one goddess. The Messiah was American.
>>
It's not ideal, but we literally have this game going. It used to be Mutants and Masterminds, but since there was a magical apocalypse, we moved on to 5e set thousands of years after the magical apocalypse. Everything is basically a high fantasy version of our world, kept pretty static by /some/ magical force.

I'm actually working on a setting where the most valuable items in the world are not Gold or Silver, but Music on Vinyl. Where a Vinyl record is worth ten times its weight in gold and priests exist solely to maintain the few record players left in operation. A quest to reactivate the radio towers would be pretty dope. Actually, the idea that we might rebuild society to a similar state as it is today if we were to fuck it all up implies that there would be a period where things like this would need to happen. It would be an interesting hypothetical time period to adventure in.

>Rediscovering the internet
>Rebuilding old infrastructure
>Wheeling and dealing in the booming new tech markets
>Remapping GPS like Louis and Clark
>Fixing destroyed environments and surviving harsh climates
>Neo-Luddites who fear The Bomb/the internet/social media/whatever got everyone into this mess in the first place vs. pioneers of retro future tech expanding like oil barons
>>
>>50667625
Generally, the big spot to doing that is getting the necessary materials: difficult/impossible to dig up the needed metals without other current infrastructure, etc.
>>
>>50667654
There would also be a society to consider around it, depending on whats left of the previous world. Trying to recapture society could be seen as an illicit or immoral thing, making those that traffic in the sort of thing anything from scoundrels to pariahs.

The americas are overrun with magical creatures. Wilderness has overrun most rural areas as magical fauna has spread to all but major cities and suburbs.

There are three kinds of people who venture beyond the safe zones. Hunters who slay particarly dangerous creatures and deal with the odd orc warbands. Road crews who's tank pavers keep the highways in usable repair and truckers who move the valuable macguffin crystals and ore that allow those who live in the cities continue to live modern, prosperous lives without worry of food supplies.

Also skip the swords, guns and sorcery.

Utah now covers more of the Rockies, and it's Paladins are either of the Rockwell order traveling two and two. They possess the strength of normal men but cannot die unless they fall to sin and lose their protection. Feared for their violent reputation they solve most issues diplomatically. Since they can't die most folks bury them to stop them, or tie them to great stones and sink them in lakes. It's said that if you rescue a Mormon paladin they will reward you with gold tablets, a rumor given weight by the wealth of Mormon traders.

The Cauldron Ship of the Dead, Yamatai-no-fune, which ever sails under the waves, and it smaller sisters. The prophecies tell that one day, when mankind will turn to violence and conquest and nothing will be sacred anymore, it will rise again and spawn forth the Insects of Metal to bind the world in fire, blood and ashes. They will attempt to kill the gods themselves, but the Sun goddess Amaterasu will die giving birth to the Destroyer of Worlds, the Sun-on-Earth, the name of which is not uttered in anything more than whispers, but it's tought to be Enola the Mirthful.
After that, the world will be born anew, with prosperity and peace.

The Ten Billions Shadows of the lost city of Akiha-no-bara, were dream spirits walked on earth from drawings on scrolls and altars of glass. Their warlock and "rotten witches" cults are legion now, and they are divided by the spirits they can supposedly call on, be it giants of iron, masters of divine martial arts or protector-maidservants of princely palaces. Aside from their pletohora of drawing-sigils they have strange fetishes of the World That Was, like dolls in unknown materials or bizzare costumes that can make the rituals of the descent of the Shadows on people easier, but the real magical items are reserverd for the initiates. They whisper that in their cerimonies the sigils do come to life and renact dramas almost unthinkable without the warlocks' knowledge of the Ancients' way and of the Masks allegories.

Of course, don't forget the Coltists.

They remember Sam Colt, the son of God, who came to America with guns to preserve them from the evil tyranny of the British, bringing liberty and equality.

>The Illuminati control the remnants of most of America's largest cities.
>They claim to have existed and led American development since the very beginning
>Some people suspect that they are simply a group of warlords who have claimed the identity in order to give themselves an air of power and authority
>The Illuminati is opposed to magic and magic users, heavily restricting them or outright outlawing them
>They insist that magic isn't magical. Whatever miracles and spells they acknowledge are dismissed as unexplained but scientific phenomena

I want to run this campaign set in the Bay Area. The Illuminati control San Francisco and the adventures take place in the East Bay. The Illuminati have recently intervened in a short civil war that saw Berkeley and Oakland win their independence from the Kingdom of the Bay. They are now firmly in the Illuminati's sphere of influence.

But the Illuminati have been engaged in a quagmire of a war against demonic invaders from the south, so the Kingdom of the Bay is trying to take advantage of San Francisco's weakness in order to reclaim some of their power and influence.
>>
>>50672406
>The Illuminati
Swap for freemasons and youre on the right track
>>
>>50672416
The terms are frequently used interchangeably by conspiracy theorists. I just thought that "Illuminati" sounded cooler. Then again, using a lot of neo-Egyptian motifs could be cool. Part of the setting is that all the heavily populated areas are renamed because the old names are considered cursed (largely because other than San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Fremont I don't know enough of the Bay to make it work). Maybe San Francisco could become "New Thebes"

One of my big problems is that I can't come up with a justification for there to be radioactive wastelands and yet San Francisco and Berkeley were spared.

Honestly, one of the "better" ways to fuck over America would be to nuke the Great Plains. We lose our native bread basket and soon resort to looting and invading other areas of the world to get access to their bread basket farmland.

> The ruins of Hatten are a treasure trove of ancient relics from before the Fall, but the journey to the island is perilous to begin with. Crossing over the stone pillars of the Man Bridge is one route, but the roaming wildlife and undead remains of the island plague the route. Crossing via water over the Bay of Hud is equally dangerous, littered with flesh-eating rats and subterranean lizards with rows of razor sharp teeth.
> The enter of the Isle of Hatten glows with an unholy light, and scouting reports describe it as a center square filled with glowing walls and demonic noises ring out all around, talking about the wares of Ni Ke, the food of Micalds, or the glittering red globe high atop one of the buildings.
> Drinks of the ancestors are treated as ancient potions, such as the Ale of Ginger, said to heal wounds. Or the flask of Mon, said to provide a great boost in speed and agility before an equally sudden crash of motor functions. The bottles containing either Co-La or Psi are viewed as the most ancient and powerful, an equal balance of healing and mental acuity increase, but scholars engage in heated debate over which has the best effects.

> One of the few buildings left standing in the ruins of Hatten is the Building of the Empire, a tall, glass and stone structure with a blackened metal point on the top. Rumors abound of a powerful wizard at the top of it who keeps the ancient tower in pristine working order, but protected by wards powerful and ancient, many doors blocked by singlets of "Out Order" and vast shafts that seem to drop down into the very depths of the Earth itself.

> Out in the ruins of the Vast Wasteland, near the chain of mountains called the Rocks, is rumored to be an ancient war base, located at the Mountains of Chy. Deep within its bowels, behind ancient doors of iron and steel, underneath thousands of layers of "sement" is an ancient, perfectly circle ring, made of metals not found on this earth, said to transport you or things on the other side of this Gate into the heavens themselves in an instant. Others claim this to be a mere story the ancients crafted of their warriors conquering the heavens themselves, but no one knows for sure.

The people occupying the place of Old New York live inside the remaining statues and worship the pantheistic deity 'Dol Lah' who's naturalbfor forces is said to have built the ruins around them.

North of Russia in the white forests of the Finn are the whisperings of a guardian ghost. In other cultures, Death is known to be garbed in black, but only in Finn does he wear white. Trespassers of ill will shall face certain death, stricken by the snow itself. Should the earth shatter, the forests burn, and the snowman himself be torn asunder, White Death smites all wicked his way come.

The two churches of Fast Bells on the Hated Land, despite being under the same banner, held a crusade against each other for a century. Murals painted on the buildings served as accolades for the paladins who fought and died in combat. A mutually kept wall signed by those who lost still stands today, with an untold number of names on it. The war has since died, but green and orange flags fly on the respective sides, in memorial of the past that was lost and all the world we'll never know.

In the far East, the pantheons of the Old Gods were enormous, with thousands of names, and almost entirely female. They all seemed to be patrons of beauty, though many had domains elsewhere as well. The popular belief is that there was a constant conflict over what God or Gods should hold the title.

On God's Boot there lies a city as old as the world itself. The ancient city we see there was, itself, built on another ancient city, and that one before it. Hundreds of cities, filling the same shoe, falling the same fate. The Throne of God sits there in a grand palace, filled for only so little at a time, reflecting man's inability to play the part of the throne's real owner, and behind it, a statue depicting Pheonix Christ, the icon of the city, being born again from the fire that undone him. The city may fall, but its legacy will never fade, and that legacy is ROMA.

That's a really cool idea. Expanding on that, magic users are simply people who through a quirk of genetics are more compatible and have a higher baseline nanomachine count. This means they can send stronger and more complex signals, but possible suffer physical side effects and frailty due to the extra stress on their bodies. Nanomachine count can also be increased through frequent use of the magic, though continual usage can cause some to malfunction, creating tumours and temporary physical and mental mutations. For safe usage, you should rest after a period of time to allow the malfunctioning nanites to be reabsorbed and repaired.

People worship the transient lights in the skies as gods, and the source of magic. That's why in the Dark Lands, where none of satellites are visible there is effectively an anti-magic zone.

Very large creatures with extremely large amounts of nanites in their bodies have a sort of secondary intelligence, and the network connecting the nanites becomes exponentially more complex. This is viewed as possession, though depending on how the nanites network develops it can be malicious, benevolent or completely alien to the host body.

I just imagine a whale oracle which has such a huge amount it can essentially divine the future.

INTERNATIONAL thanks to /pol and the memes it spawned:

Jew the god of merchants, commerce, trade and conspiracy.
Jew is one of Greater Gods of the realms all exchange of land and other important goods are done with using his name.
His holy symbol is Yew tree and under that tree contract are signed and binding oaths are spoken.
Priesthood of Jew are wandering mediators, lawyers and judges that help to resolve conflicts related to trade.
His worshippers have tendency to bound together in secret or non secrets guilds that works towards monopolizing the market, an effort that Jew approves.

He is bound in eternal struggle with KEK, frog god of trickery, sorcery and meme magic.
His worshippers are mainly sorcerers that abhor the light of the day and prefer to stay underground where thy practise their foul magic.
Kek is god of meme magic(runes), it users can bring good and bad fortune by using sigils of the ancients.
Greatest sorcerers are currently searching for their most holy relic mentioned in ancient text the forbidden board of /Pol, rumoured to be located in place of mythical land of Poland, vigilantly guarded by winged lancers

Mormons them-self mix up their records with the Catholics' along with pulp fiction and mistakenly believe that it is their destiny to take the sword and do quests across the realm on horseback, spreading Christianity to a Pagan world and ultimately taking back the holy land, which they believe to be Jerusalem, Maryland.

I like the idea of being a survivor of the end and noticing/experiencing strange and fantastical events and creatures start to appear, like a lightning storm with different colored bolts and ball lightning hovering about, or hunting in the woods, tracking a deer and by the time you get to it a griffin is chowing down on it. Witnessing the first people to use magic in the form of tribals and isolated individuals

Hey guys after 150 or so years, what would cities and towns be like? Would most just decay and/or crumble due to the elements? like in london, without the water protection measures most of london becomes flooded and buildings sink due to rotted foundations. Asking because i need to know how much of the old world would still be present.
>>
>>50692356
>what would cities and towns be like?
Gone.

Most of the stuff that still stands only stands because of very favorable conditions (like the pyramids) or because it's being actively protected (Rome).
>>
>>50692390
Only the strongest, well built structures would remain then? Stuff made with roman concrete, mount rushmore, big ben etc

"Gone" is an exaggeration. 150 years isn't quite enough for that. Streets will disappear, but houses won't - unless they are too close to a nuclear power plant.

The catastrophe which ruined the world of the Twenty-First Century was nothing so simple as damage in the real; some natural disaster on the scale of reality itself saw thought and substance mesh and mingle. Nightmares became flesh. Imagined enemies became genuine. Fear itself came to life.
Intense focus and trained visualization can selectively warp the permeable substance of reality, allowing human will to become manifest for attack or defense. Each time, the realms mix further, threatening to birth living madness from thin air.

OP just asked for "high fantasy setting atop the ruins of our world", and LH is literally that.
Also, iirc the in-game setting lore is that some apocalyptic thing happened and the world went gradually from modern civilization to high fantasy. Granted that the world wasn't destroyed irl, but oh well.

MEXICO

The Catholic traditions of old get even more mixed with ancient native rituals and paganism, the end of the world has turned the country into an even darker and violent place, with the drug lords and their minions being the most armed members of society their culture and way of life spreads through the north, meanwhile, in the deep south, native beliefs and traditions over take the still existing cities that become more and more isolated with each passing year, creating their own mythos with their local legends.

>Malverde, Saint of Trade, Rebirth and War, Patron of all Narcos
An old saint of the narcos in Mexico, with the end of the world and the narcos becoming an even stronger force in the north, the worship of Malverde has become a norm in the desert states of old Mexico, with people making offerings of food, flowers and bullets on its shrines that exist all over the north

>Santa Muerte, Saint of Death
In Central Mexico, the catholic church never completely disappeared, with the many cathedrals and monuments existing with christian themes it was impossible for it to disappear, but instead it evolved into more obscure methods, with the end of the world and people turning into more obscure rituals the small fringe cult of La Santa Muerte grew to the point of overtaking jesus and the holy trinity as the fundation of the church, now the priests and bishops conduct mass and the eucharist in her honor, putting her as a new and stronger aspect of divinity, catholic traditions are now combined with blood offerings and animal sacrifices, with some people doing human sacrifices in secret to try and gain the fevors of La Santa Muerte.

The south is plagued with different legends and mythos all of them coming from their local native beliefs, making the south a really diverse and supersticious place.

It's from the anubian chapter in primal punk I think.
It's theorized that those glowy coffins are the cryopods of the 8 ancestors, one of which is most likely the guy who is adressed in the mail at the end of the first book if I remember corectly.

The metaplot spans a ton of shit like getrell and the recombination group, how he forsaw most of the shit that is currently happening and how he planned for his return from space. The marauders are working against it, then you've got shit like the psychovores and the 7th chakra.

Fuck, it's too late for me to go into depth. Maybe I'll return tomorrow and bring some news, but I advise you to read every chapter, every sentence in both books carefully and think about the actions and reactions of the cults and cultures, their abilities/equiptment and how everything correlates to eachother.

If you do you might come up with crazy theories like this one: Aries might or might not be an AI and/or inhabitant of a nanite factory on creta or a moon of jupiter who temporarily assumes direct controll of his Arianoi (or more specifically, his Fatums) via nanite reprogramming of their brain to influence the world. Makes more or less sense if you read everything about the jehammedans, including their ranks and talents. Also the transmition of jehammed's disc that you can find in the download sections of their website
