I feel on some level that the /tg/ that valued creativity and personal freedom has been put to the wayside by /pol/acks who seek to divide people who enjoy the hobby based on petty things like skin color and religion, and newfags who don't respect the old memes and traditions of the board.

I'm probably seeing things through rose-colored glasses, but I feel like /tg/ has changed and become an angrier place. Not angry in the usual neckbeard way - angry in a way that people are afraid and want to lash out at something.

Also fuck /pol/ for stealing Deus Vult from Crusader Kings 2.

Happy 10th.

Some of you may know me, I'm the curator of the /fvgt/ threads. Anyone familiar with me on here knows I'm pretty idealistic about the board, especially about its ability to get shit done.

I've spent a long time figuring out what went wrong with /tg/, and here's what I've decided:

The board can live without quests, the board could live if it was entirely generals, the board can survive /pol/, and trolls by the hundreds, and the board can weather pretty much anything... except for one thing: autism.

Well, more specifically what we refer to as autism, but more specifically mean the "I'm right, you're wrong, and I'm going to argue about it and reply to every response until I can browbeat you into submission" attitude that has become so prevalent. Everything has to be taken so seriously, so trolls barely put any effort. We need to fix this.

Which is just another way of saying that we need to ignore bait.

Of course, you guys know this doesn't work. In fact, it's Fucking ridiculous how bad we are at ignoring bait. Which is why I'm advocating a new(old) solution: derail the thread.

Lindybeige, Varg, BBEG-Fag, MartialV.Caster, 3.5/Dungeon World, or another troll pops up? Switch the conversation from whatever weapon he's arguing didn't exist and turn it into a Monstergirl discussion, or something absolutely balls-to-the-wall ridiculous. Make sure nobody is able to take the thread seriously, and make sure you have fun doing so.

TLDR: Serious /tg/ is at fault for ruining /tg/, which is why we need to loosen up the troll/autism threads a bit with more gonzo conversation.
>>
>>51735056
Great you are just encouraging the "lolepicscreencap" crowd. Old /tg/'s derails worked because they happened organically and most importantly unintentionally. We get fewer of them now because fucktards keep trying to be the next Sir Bearington or Edguardo.
>>
>>51735095
He's offering a solution, and while perhaps I don't agree with it, it's better than just complaining and going "lol you're wrong."

Oh fuck, I took the bait.
>>
>>51735095
Well then... let them. At this point I would rather deal with a bunch of LoLEpicMemers than I would the cynical bog that /tg/ has become. I'd rather have stupid people enjoying stupid Shit and having fun than I would have another thread arguing about 3.PF.
>>
>>51735131
>>51735123
Well, that and my other solution is to post actual content to drown out the shit. Love and Krieg 2.0? One of the best threads to come about in recent times, simply because it's encouraged people to produce something for the board. We've got like seven different Writefags in there pushing content.

>>
>>51735056
I think the real issue is clannish bullshit. There's no reason autism should be special among the board's list of woes, but it flows easily when you've got enemies that need to be put to the sword. It also models edition wars perfectly, explains how anybody could get that mad about quests, explains for the rise of generals, and, most notably, demonstrates why baiting /tg/ is about as difficult and unreliable as turning on your computer. It's not that people are "serious," it's that they're at war. Going from ALLOW ME TO SPEND FORTY PAGES EXPLAINING WHY YOU ARE WRONG to LOLSORANDUMXDXDXD is just going to remodel the flavor of shit if they do so every time there's a VILE TROLL to VALIANTLY DEFEAT by POSTING WAIFUS instead of screaming autistically at him like before.

Going to war, whatever its form, does not generate content, and that's really all that matters. It doesn't really matter if somebody's raging about Lindybeige or politics on a traditional games board so long as somebody else is doing something interesting elsewhere, but often they're not. I'm beginning to suspect the creation of /qst/ was an attempt to salvage actual content from its containment board, rather than the other way round.

I don't really know what the solution to this is, but I'm fairly certain it involves discouraging the factionalism and clannishness of the board, and more importantly convincing people to post traditional games related content rather than /tg/ content.

It might unfortunately be a symptom of how things are in the real world.

Hear me out.

Politics is becoming more and more of a thing taking center stage. It doesn't matter what these politics are, everywhere you go on 4chan, there'll be at least one post every thread about "leftists" and "conversatives" and what's a fascist, what's a cuck, etc.

We seem to be growing more and more used to solving arguments by just shouting people down instead of just trying to mutually understand each other. There's no real debate, it's just shitposting.

Then you got threads on /pol/ about "infiltrating" other boards with memes and shitposting (I know, /pol/ boogeyman, but you see it everywhere) which only exasperates things.

I'd go onto Infinitychan at this point, but it has boards about kidfucking and animalfucking, and it's /pol/ basically runs the place.

>>
>>51735797
I don't know.

I don't think people care anymore, because everyone is so insulated on their side of the political spectrum. That's why each side has found it so easy to demonize the other - their image of the other side is completely imaginary and made up of stereotypes and cliches.

Like whenever I manage to drag myself out of bed? This shit doesn't happen. I go to the bar and no one talks about ANYTHING that involves politics. The only people I've seen talk about politics in real life have all been weirdos, who either believe in MEME MAGIC or that everyone on the right is some kind of Nazi.

So either the real world really isn't as illogical and insane as people arguing about politics on the internet implies, or I just live in a place where people don't give a shit.

>>
>>51734524
Like several anons here were saying, the board was looser and more fun. People were a bit more childish, and a lot happier.

That generation got old and bitter, especially after the rise of social justice, and it's taking a lot to turn things around.

The real world is more verbally hostile than it was ten years ago, with everyone constantly belittling and acting smug and holier than thou towards their enemies, so really it's sort of a problem with society as a whole. I can only hope that we can return to a simpler, more fun time where we all just had fun together, instead of constantly fueling each other's depression.
>>
>>51735890
Oldfag here, along with you and the other oldfags.

We all used to have things that made us rage in a neckbeard way. We all had things that we hated.

I wouldn't say it's the rise of social justice like >>51735902 said, although it could possibly be a part, for even the greybeards of the 70's and 80's were angry at how tabletop roleplay had been getting "worse" since their day.

I think it's because, as most of us are Millennials (early 1980s to 2000 is generally accepted as when the Millennial generation began)... we're a very angry generation. You can see from all the SJWs, the alt-right (actual alt-righters, not memefags), and a lot of military servicepeople being some of the angriest, most hateful fuckers on the planet.

It seems to just be in the majority of our generation's nature to be angry. It's a damn shame it's only gotten so bad in the past... five years, I'd say?
>>
>>51735890
nazimod left in 2011. It's been 6 years that we've been responsible for our own issues.

Anything that happens now is moderation, not nazimod doing anything.

nothing currently is like nazimod of old
>>
>>51736033
>Millennials early 1980s to 2000
I was born in '88 and I don't resemble, relate to, or consider myself a part of anyone born past like '95 at the latest. We're a distinct generation and I hate being lumped in with kids that grew up with smartphones as a norm when high tech when I was a kid meant you had a pentium and an early CD player.

Overzealous moderation is what is killing this board and has basically eliminated what used to be the culture here. It wasn't a board strictly about discussing traditional games, it was a board for traditional gamers to discuss the shit we talk about with each other. There is a discernible difference and the latter made this a great place to be.

>>51736051
Yes nazimod is gone but the effects of those purges and subsequent purges are still very much being felt today. /tg/ has never really recovered and any time it begins down the path to the days of old it is swiftly beaten back down again.

There exists a large and growing number of the population here that do not remember the old days because they weren't here. To them, /tg/ has always been this ridiculously strict environment that exists only to make general threads in.

It has been a mistake to run out the major sources of OC we used to have, the drawfags, the writefags, even some questfags. It was a mistake to try to make this place a PC safespace barren of the sort of raunchy, smutty humor it used to have. This used to be a fun place to be even if it was just for the chaos of it all. Now it's just fucking general threads and bullshit.
>>
>>51736120
And that's the kind of tribalism that's killing us, anon.

The sort of hatred for people born past a year, the separation of what makes us people, that's the kind of anger that defines us.

It's not "PC," it's not Nazimod, and fuck, it isn't even /pol/ shitposting. I think it's a deep, resounding cynicism and hate against anything that old /tg/ used to be.

/tg/ used to be a place of perverted motherfuckers, but we also had a sense of class about it. We were nerdy as fuck, but we also generally had some skills to bring to the table, like modelling or writefagging. Above all else we were brothers and sisters, fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls, neckbeards with a true sense of community and tradition.

Memes are shit for the most part, but they were also the basis for our culture. While /pol/ has Kek, Pepe, and THE JEWS, and /k/ has innawoods, AR-15, and /fit/ has being a bunch of flaming homosexuals, what does /tg/ have now?

Elf slave, wat do? Considered cancer.

Katanas are underpowered in d20? Shit and blind weeb hate without getting WHY that's a funny pasta.

Abaddon the Armless? Ultrasmurfs? Cultist-Chan, Raege and Boone, Noh, hated.

I don't want us to be enemies, anon. I don't care what generation you're from. I care about what you want to do, and what you want to make for the board.

We need writefags, drawfags, fuck, we just need FAGS back, because Love and Krieg and All Guardsmen Party? THAT SHIT is old /tg/ that I remember, when we'd just make goofy shit and have fun with it.

But people don't like it. A lot of people don't like it. Do some oldfags hate old /tg/ and love nu/tg/? Probably. But the people who love this board for what it used to be need to do shit.

We need to get shit done.

You're mistaken, I don't overtly hate millennials, I just don't consider my generation part of that group.

Every board has changed, but /tg/ has had it bad. /k/ still has their memes but everybody has a gun now. /fit/ actually has some goalbod material and has upped their knowledge base. /a/ has done a pretty good job of keeping out undesirables and encouraging self reliance over spoonfeeding, etc.

/tg/ has lost its memes, lost its fun, lost basically all our OC generation that used to make this place great.

Yeah I would absolutely love to get shit done. I used to draw here even though I wasn't great. I used to run a few popular quests. I used to join the writefag thread dogpiles from time to time. About all that's left of that is the drawfaggotry and even that isn't the same. Fuck when did greenmarine last post something here? Based on his recent stuff I'd say /v/ somehow ended up with him now.

I loved doing quests but only here, because it was full of fa/tg/uys. /qst/ or anonkun or whatever can fuck right off because I don't have fun writing for other audiences. The people here, this board specifically, made it fun.
>>
Happy Birthday /tg/, you have been with me for a good while, ever since I started a wee bit of tabletop and mostly 40k. I love you.

But eh, I don't understand how I can contribute. I can't write fanfiction worth a shite, I can't draw and the only subject I know much of is 40k and I haven't been keeping in the loop as much as I was. It's a very saturated subject regardless.

Happy 10th anniversary /tg/

You saw me through some of the darker and happier times of my life.

I miss /wst/, /tg/.

I wrote a bit and started drawing and it's what made me discover a hobby aside from fapping and feeling sorry for myself. Most of all, there was this sense of helping out other anons with lewds that were related to some characters I knew, not some retarded /d/ickgirl vore. It was all a bit weird but then I realized I'm just a stupid neck beard and I better rolled with it, and once anonymous, at least we all could sort of relate. It felt like a family.
Now it feels like a home where the cool cousins you experimented with have left and you're stuck with memories and boring Sunday roast dinner.

>>
>>51739545
Not really? The two don't have any real corrolation or matchup. I mean, quests were here way longer than generals, for one.

Really, what made generals happen was more population, and a rise in general bitterness and off topic shitposting necessitating contained communities.

Same thing that causes generals anywhere else.
>>
>>51739231
I started the thread that started the current Love and Krieg threads, also Fading Embers.

I was around during the HUGE marines, the Hanged, and the Rad Marines.

Also the "Fucked the Moon Goddess" thread.

I saw a drawthread that Culexus was in.

I was in the That Guy thread featuring Benny the Weeb.

Oh, also I was there to witness the lamentation of Autist-anon when he tried to crush on his GM's girl at the LGS.

I also posted the Mr. Rogers threads a few times.

/pol/ shit was always on 4chan.

The cancer was just different, like remember nurse verity and all those gnolls fags fucking up the place?

Everyone is getting nostalgic for old memes but LCB was considered cancer by many and most of the people pushing OC before quest faggots and generals took over the place got run out of here. So that tribalism was always present too.

I think going work safe was the biggest hit and the generals kinda fucked up the more dynamic conversational style of what 4chan was supposed to be. I mean you could just go to any forum and find the same format.

I dunno it's just a shift in ideology. Like folks thinking we needed mods to run out furfags and chopping the board into the generals just seemed to further divide it.

In classic 4chan fashion I just blame Reddit, the Mods and M00t.

I don't think anon meant SJWs coming here and telling what we should be saying is the problem, I think he just meant people have a lot of anger built up in them today. It's a very politically active time, pretty much everyone is encouraged to have strong, polarising opinions about politics in today's society and it makes people feel angry at just how dedicated people can get over things that seem to make no sense, as both the observed and the observer are too far removed to acknowledge each other's positions.
Pic related, it's the start of a thread currently on /tg/, and I think it's a microcosm of what's wrong with today's society. Somebody makes a joke, and it immediately turns into people telling each other to fuck off over a single datum. Everyone who dislikes trump is an sjw, everyone who likes him is a /pol/lack. If they're on "the other side" they have nothing to discuss with you.
It's just sad, really, how divided we can see ourselves as now that we are all together. Even in Ireland american politics are the center of discussion half the time, and your stance on their issues still determine who wants to associate with you or not.

Not all that true, /pol/ from my experience is interested in two things. 1. Spreading the "red pill" (am the only one who finds it funny that it's a red pill, while /pol/ hate everything commie?) and 2. "confirming" that the evil SJWs/cultural marxists are indeed trying to invade everything and change it to their liking. /tg/ has always been a bit on the left side, but at the same time never really took well to showing politics into the hobby (if you need confirmation just look at the main complaints about eclipse phase). We are the one's that "need" redpilling and we are easy to trigger, so we are a fertile ground for /pol/ raiding . Plus, science anyone can make a rpg, there are some sjw rpgs that are easy to dig up, thus /pol/tards can feed their paranoia

The "problem" with /tg/?
Us.

We have the power to make this into whatever we want. The "scary" part? We do.
The fact that other people exist and are different... that's just a fact of life. 10 years ago, we were different. Over the course of years some people left, and some changed. More importantly however, some people came and visited. Even stranger, some of those people stuck around.

Perhaps it isn't perfect. Perhaps we believe we can be better. Perhaps not, maybe we like things just fine. However, if change is what we want, how do we obtain it? Pointing the blame at the younger generation is a time honored tradition, but it never accomplishes anything - after all, they will most certainly outlast you. Blaming others doesn't work, because then everybody just thinks everybody else is wrong and nothing happens.
So what do we do? We already know.
Keep posting, friends.
We will make fun of you. We will insult you. We will, occasionally, completely ignore you.
But we love you.
We would be nothing without the 10,000 posts that may as well be dirt because, once in a while, we find gold.

Here's to 10 more years.

/pol/ and /tg/ have a deeper link than many /tg/ are willing to examine I think.

Both tend to involve a romanticization of the past, gathering up ye arms to defend 'king and country', debate and identification of various 'savage outgroups' which must be regularly defended against, the establishment and guardianship of beloved traditions and order.

Conversely, by certain arguments there 'IS ONLY ONE RACE IN DnD, THE PLAYER RACE!' (which has an air of scientific legitimacy as halflings, elves, gnomes, humans, dwarves, orcs and goblins can all interbreed.)

However, I can't imagine too many players or gamemasters would actually want more than the occasional crossbreeds, otherwise the setting loses so much enduring diversity in the name of maximal temporary diversity.

Even ignoring the blatant ethnocentric/racist imperialist tones in 'going out and justifiably looting someone else's shit because they are green and don't speak good english' many campaigns inevitably involve war and conflict, which will involve politics and ethics, which will inspire debate and allusions to IRL analogues.

Pic related: War of the Worlds is a clever commentary on the British colonialism, particularly examples like the Tasmanian 'Black War'.

My memories of the first few years are quite hazy, but in early 2007 the board was mostly 40k and D&D 3.5e, with lots of creative threads and drawfagging. In my recollection MtG threads were exceedingly rare compared to the current popularity, for example. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. 40k and Battletech brough many likeminded anons from /m/ to our new board.

Summer-autumn '07 brought the invasion of the proto-/jp/sies, who were becoming a vocal subculture on /a/ with their touhou hijacking ways (this was about half a year before mootles would split those two boards). Not all fa/tg/uys appreaciated the sudden influx of weeaboo thread spam, but most praised the autistic minmaxers.

Dwarf Fortress also became huge in the summer of '07, Something Awful's Boatmurdered LP being the sole cause. It never really became as popular on /v/ as here on /tg/, and the creation of /vg/ pretty much killed Dorf Fort discussion here, but for five or six years there were constant threads about it.

The hilarious edition wars between 3aboos and 4rries that began in summer 2008 were the highlight of that year, and would continue for years to come. After that came the furry invasion, with Flare, gnolls and the like. Quests exploded after Rubyquest in early 2009. For about a year the board was at its most chaotic state, with fapfics, thulsa doom, drawfags providing porn, elf slave wat do, furfags yiffing, creative questing, and absolutely no moderation between the time moot banned Jim Profit in late '08 after weeks of whining and emails to him about the avatarfagging narutard, and late '09-early '10 when Nazimod and his crew of exceedingly enthusiastic janitors started to take an interest to the board. Thus began the Great Purge, which did successfully eliminate the furry menace, but a lot creators of original content were casualties of war, never to be seen again.

Holy balls. 10 years. I thought it was longer.

Right off the bat, I want to say that every last one of you has brought me joy and I'm glad to know you.

As for why /tg/ has gone "downhill"...

When it started up, the idea of an anonymous board was new and radical. All those ideas that we had been banned at other boards for, or ideas we held back for fear of being banned were finally safe to post. We could say whatever we wanted with the only repercussions being called out on our shit.

Now all the easy ideas have been discussed. All the stuff we held back on even mentioning have been posted, torn down, and re-built.

Those truly odd ideas now have outlets on a dozen different specialist sites. They've been examined and discussed there, and many have been banned here for NSFW reasons.

We've explored to the edge of the map. What was once only known to a few strange explorers are now well traveled and tamed.

We're out in the true wild now. All the crossroads have been found, and towns built there.

We lack innovation not because it's dull, but because all the easy stuff has been done already.
>>

Poster of >>51736226 here. Yes, I know, that's not exactly valued information, but I think that it'd be poignant if I say why your statement might be considered everything that is wrong with not only /tg/, but internet culture as a whole at the moment.

Why does it matter if the fun is childish? Why does it matter if the fun is "stupid"? Moreover, why does it matter if it's anything labelled as "reddit-tier bullshit"? We'd already discussed that tribalism is killing /tg/, but as I said another reason may well be that we're too damn cynical for our own good.

Look at those threads, anons, and judge them based on your own filter, and ask yourself; why is stupid fun WRONG? Is the point of fun not to stimulate yourself, to relax and to simply roll with the experience? When you go to see an average action movie, it will probably be schlock - but schlock has it's place. It's a method of turning your brain off and experiencing simple joy and happiness at a thing. You can recognize it's schlock, but you can still enjoy yourself with it!

It's much like Dungeons and Dragons. I know, some people have made the game a roleplaying experience that they will always have fond memories of, that some of the deepest, most meaningful interactions with people that they've ever had have been because of DnD.

Gary Gygax, however, never thought of roleplaying as a "proper" way to play his creation. He was, first and foremost, a war gamer, and it shows in DnD's mechanics, and how a lot of it seems to be meant to be played a meatgrinder murderhobo simulator.

But people have fun with it anyways, because even if it's schlock, it's fun.

Who gives a shit if anyone sees you as childish, or... "reddit-tier" when you play games that are, at their core, fantasy? Things that are MADE for going on a wondrous journey?

Call of Cthulhu isn't exactly a definition of "wondrous" I know, but sometimes, you can have stupid, childish fun even when you're being driven mad.
>>
>>51743780
>>51743792
Well, that kind of depends. I feel like if it was science making the person invisible, your dick would disappear, as the most likely cause of the invisibility is some kind of light bending array. If it was magic, however, I give it about even odds that you'd be able to see your dick, depending on if was an illusion spell cast on an area around the invisible whore, or a transmutation spell making the whore themselves, but only themselves, fully transparent.

I guess it's another problem we as an internet seem to have; this obsession with being seen as "adult" with "proper" sensibilities and obligations, even in our relaxation periods. We want to be seen as cool and collected and wise, even when we're playing Halflings or Dragonborn or Orcs or Humans or fucking Elves.

I hate Reddit. Reddit is everything wrong with the internet in one place with a shitty mascot. But one thing that they've always had over us? They know what they are, and they're not ashamed of it.

That's why /pol/ is doing so well. It's why /k/ and /fit/ and /a/ do so well compared to /tg/ - they know what they are, and they accept it, and they don't give a shit what other people think about them.

Yes, old /tg/ had stupid shit happen. It had immature, relentlessly childish memery, like Angry Marines, or Pretty Marines, or Scary Marines. Things that a lot of people look at now and cringe and say "how retarded."

That was the point. We KNEW they were stupid jokes. We KNEW they didn't make any logical sense. We just didn't give a shit, because they were ours, and to hell with anyone who'd try to take them away and ruin them.

I have browsed new /tg/ for a time now, and I don't see anything that the board can collectively say is OURS nowadays. We don't have any OCs like Cultist-Chan, or Urist the Dwarf.

/tg/, at it's core, was a bunch of perverted, immature nerds, who also had skills and could create sweeping, grand things, or stupid shit.

There is nothing wrong with stupid, childish fun, because while children tend to be stupid, they also tend to be HAPPY. They know how to laugh, and to simply enjoy things as they are. It's a beautiful innocence.

I think we need to stop taking ourselves so seriously, and just... let the dice roll again.

Yes, it's sappy bullshit, but it still needs to be said. Let people judge me for themselves.

I just want to have fun again.

I remember back when there were sergals all over this shitty place, when the ponyfags were rampant, when there was eternal war between 40k players and the furry deviants.
I also remember when I could post a thread starter about a notional campaign setting and start getting hits before it was bumped more than twice. I remember seeing serious, if brutally 4chan, advice threads for DMs and players. I remember Iron Quest, where /tg/ began to write serious speculative fiction on no notice, and game finder threads where you could actually find something worth playing.

Now, I see nothing but troll threads, forced memes, and shitty collectible card and miniature game threads for rich idiots. Single issue posts or threads about possible settings sink like stones into a mire filled with "stat him" and fetish fuel threads that fill to busting and sink like gorging leeches in a marsh that is a giant's bowel.

The creators are gone, left for more civilised places, and the remains here are barbarous and cruel.

I'm going to assume you two are the same. Perhaps that is presumptuous of me, but let's call it a hunch.

You cannot harm me with cartoon frogs. Especially not Pepe.

I wish you were not compelled to be a contrarian, anon. I wish you too could, perhaps, just not take yourself or take things so damn seriously.

/tg/ isn't just roleplaying games. It's wargaming and card games, a competitive sphere, which lends itself to seriousness of course, but can also lead to people wanting to dick around with retarded builds or decks. It is a sphere where two men at summer camp showed children the joys of Magic, of letting them be heroes and villains in their own right, if only for a short amount of time.

It is things like Dwarf Fortress and other roguelikes, where around every corner lies death and destruction, but such things encourage recklessness and bravery in equal measure as long-term planning and cold, hard logic.

It is works of fiction, works of art, made by anons, some lost to the ages, some remembered now as what used to be pillars of the community, and even legends such as Gannadene, maker of Commissar Fuklaw (known better now as Plague of Gripes) can succeed in other areas!

As >>51744569 said, fun ⊇ stupidity and childishness. If you simply wish to make an excuse to be a cock, then I accept that. It comes with the territory of 4chan.

But you cannot harm me with Pepe. You cannot harm me with anything. I have armored myself with it, and have made it known what I am. I desire fun. Relaxation. I will let other people judge my posts on their own merits, if they agree, or if they hate them.

But perhaps the main reason you cannot harm me with Pepe? I remember what he once was.

4chan as a whole got touchy with easily shareable board culture after that shit started getting jacked from 4chan and spread all over the internet. I've seen the Sir Bearington story all over the place and mentioned by people who have no idea 4chan even exists. It's why most of the board culture that remains is something that your average joe couldn't post on his Facebook page or meme it to his friends very easily. It still diffuses eventually because nothing really stays in place on the internet, but the process is greatly slowed.

Baneposting is an interesting example of this. It's endured for years because no one could really take it from us.

I get your point.

Normalfags are some of the worst things to ever blight a board. Lurking is a lost art.

I don't think 4chan should be a SECRET CLUBHOUSE, because that logic is gay, but on the other hand, we can't have normalfags creeping about the place not getting things and why they happen and ruining the flow of conversation.

It's why I'm for 1d4chan. Is it full of old memes? Yes. Is it full of opinions that don't necessarily seem to mesh with a lot of people on the board? Absolutely. But it is a quick and dirty introduction to /tg/ board culture... which is a problem, because as we've discussed in the thread, /tg/ board culture seems to be less "get shit done", which was admittedly hit or miss back in the day, and more "NO FUN ALLOWED", generals, and... well, people thinking that fun doesn't equal fun ⊇ stupidity and childishness, but fun = stupidity and childishness.

I'm not going to say 4chan was a perfect sanctuary. We've always had trolls, and assholes, and dicks, and quite frankly 4chan could pull off some pretty scummy things (not "your credit card number is censored if you put it in!" stuff, that's just trolling. I mean defacing cancer charity websites with gay porn and harassing kids with cancer or getting people thrown in jail for the lulz).

I also think that, maybe, a lot of what it is... well, sometimes, people just don't like the old ways. Why, I don't know - perhaps it's simply part of generational rebellion.

But until we're forced out, I will continue to try to remind /tg/ of what we were, and what we could be. Perhaps I'll even take up writefagging, with all the burdens, shitslinging, and sage that implies.

That picture reminds me of something that happened in my country, years ago.
A major newspaper ran a story on furries, and it was pretty much as embarrassing as you'd expect. AND, like with all furries, they were all wolves, dogs, foxes, tigers, and so on. Because furries are the least original people around. I think one of them was a badger, which is barely original.

Except for one dude. His fursona was a "Panduck". A red panda crossed with a duck.
It's stupid and I love it. So while the bar is set incredibly low, that guy is my favourite furry. Not because I know him or particularly like him, but because it's the only time I've seen anything fursona related and thought "Wait, that's actually weird". Lovable stupid is miles ahead of uninspired foxes and wolves.

Got any friends?
>>
>>51746264
No, and I don't want to play online because that doesn't feel 'genuine' to me, but I'm too shy to go out to a public place to play because then people will see me.
>>
>>51746236
If you've been here ten years and haven't gained even a single person you want to play with, that's on you, man. Most people either find a group through luck, or they do the rando roulette.
>Go to gamefinder
>Join a game that sounds nice
>It will be shit, and/or it will die within 5 sessions
>But you will make one or two contacts, people you actually like and stay in contact with.
>Repeat this process between three and a dozen times. this should take about six months to a year.
>Introduce everyone to each other and start pulling a group together. Fairly even odds this will blow up in your face. If it does, redo from start.
>If it all works, you have your gaming group and should enjoy years or decades of play
>Or you can resign yourself to solo or two-player games, they're not as bad as people claim.

Halcyon days, man. Anyone have the old black/white comics of a mod sweeping away OC and Moot as a Sister of Battle punching a neckbeard?

You know, I miss when those were actual shitposting fights and not people unironically arguing that all women are inherently weaker, dumber, slower, and in every single way inferior to even a clinically retarded, morbidly obese neckbear. That's not even funny, it's just depressing.
>>

It was the culture of creativity and imagination, and of acceptance without coddling, that you find in the tabletop community that really changed my life. /tg/ exemplifies that.

It was 13 years ago that I attempted to kill myself because of the pain of isolation and loneliness my life, and it was only a few months after that i was rolling dice with friends at a table. When I was destitute and dirty, but I had my books and my place to belong in gaming. I was not wealthy, I had no status, I had almost no hope, but I had my imagination. And that's all that mattered.

Finding /tg/, in it's comforting burichan blue, with it's endless 40k talk and elf slaves and crazy stories, and vitally it's anonymity, was like being home for the first time, ever. Belonging. Being understood without needing to explain. Here, amongst my fellow neckbeards and autists, I was nothing more than the worth of my creativity and work ethic.

So, thank you so much for being that place. Thank you for always derailing bait threads. thank you for the endless array of stupid ideas taken to extreme detail. Thank you for it all.

>>51746456

I found a lot of nostalgic images in an old DakkaDakka thread when I did a google image search for "Commissar Shadowsun". I mean to look through my old (mac formatted) external HD sometime soon, too.

when did people stop lurking?

I remember joining BZPower a decade ago after lurking for over a year. And I spent three or four years going from reading 1d4chan, to reading the sup/tg/ archives, to finally lurking /tg/.

>when did people stop lurking?
Most recently would probably be gamergate. The whole event just brought a bunch of trash in from other websites because they thought 4chan was some sort of secret fedora lord funhouse.

I also blame people not following rules 1 and 2 though. I mean after a certain point it became impossible to really keep this website on the downlow with how crazy /b/ was getting back in the day, but after a while people just stopped even trying to hide their power levels.

That's actually a brilliant idea. That dragon probably has a hoard so big, lending it all out would be self-defeating since that much gold flooding the market would devalue the currency like its nobody's business.

>>
>>51746976
You realize that you are people too, anon. You can tell people.

Most general threads have between 25 and 100 posters. Even one poster can have a huge influence, if they're consistent.

Oh the other hand, there's no need to be too rude. Just tell people to learn the board and read before they start posting. Call out the lazy posters.
>>
>>51747118

I don't remember if there was anal, but I think he took his dick covered in period blood and drew Slaanesh's symbol on her back.

I do though. I've actually been making an effort recently to put more work into the board and report more blatant shitposts to do my part.

>>
>>51747152
>>51747134
depending on how much you can post per day, you'd be surprised how great of an effect you personally can have on the direction of discussions and board culture in general when you set your mind to it.
if you've been here long enough, you should know all the methods required.
>>
>>51747204
Generals are beyond saving really. The miscellaneous threads posted around here though are good spots. Just report the obvious bait posts, tell newfags to lurk moar, and contribute to the thread however you can if it's not a shitpost.

Like the Lamenters, we made fade into memory, and we may be hated, and we may be distrusted.

Like the Lamenters, we shall not yield to everlasting despair.

Like the Lamenters, we shall fight on and on until we have reached our goals, whatever they might be.

For boards that we cherish, we post in glory.

Godspeed, /tg/. May the posts made here by the oldfags be remembered, that others might judge them and find them good, or find them wanting.

Bump limit's almost here, boys. Let's resolve to make /tg/ better.

"Sad!" is a Trump Twitter quote that he used and people latched onto. If it was an actual opinion, he'd have typed out more things to say WHY it sucks instead of just a base "you suck" statement.

Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

As the thread draws to a close, I think it fitting to try to cap it off with an image related to OP's post.

Where once there was one man who celebrated the 10th anniversary of /tg/'s inception, now there are more. May we all leave the thread with a bit of brightness in our lives, however fleeting.

May we try to make /tg/ a better place, for old and newfag alike.

I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.
