Let's see if we can craft up a lost or breakaway human polity in 40k that can weather the coming storm.

First, we'll need the Segmentum in which they reside.

Ah, Segmentum Pacificus! So we've been hidden right under the Imperium's nose, eh? There's lots of good material there, from the Macharian Crusade to the Plague of Unbelief.

How long have they been there? Give me 1d100 for centuries since founding.

66 centuries, or 6,600 years! This would put their founding at around 399.M35, right in the middle of the Nova Terra Interregnum in the Segmentum Pacificus! Perhaps they broke away from Nova Terra, but did not reintegrate with the Imperium.

Roll 1d250 for the number of worlds this power possesses. We aren't going for full Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar, but they must have acquired a few if they've survived almost seven millennia.

The warp itself is beyond even the so called 'gods' of chaos, who are they themselves merely facets of an unknowable and inexplicable no-thing that straddles this imperfect creation known as reality. Those who write seek to impose a vision on such a universe that can know no such regulation, in their folly they echo the self same sins of their own so-called creation who, as they, sit moldering upon a throne that is a prison.

108 beads now hang upon the neck of he-who-contemplates in golden chains beneath the tree of worlds.

The time of Apotheosis is near, when he shall finally achieve enlightenment and transcend both material and immaterial, becoming all-thing and no-thing, all-thought and no-thought

And then he shall teach us the way, and wash away this prison known as reality, and bring together the two halves that have been separated - material and immaterial - for all time and no-time.

well if they were a interstellar bubble kingdom their military may not be designed for warfare. There would likely be quite a lot of people who are extremely focused and trained and who are beautifully equipped, but this would be for self improvement rather than to go fight the orcs on world 12,000. So their force, if they intended to go into battle with it would likely be rather unmechanized for a human faction. Why build a tank to fight unless piloting the tank was somehow artistic or spiritual?
>>
>>53830019
Moreover, why build a tank when you step on falling leaves or rain drops and by meditating hard enough you can make your body harder than steel.

>>
>>53830052
I figure that most of them don't actually get to that level. As a culture, they're predisposed to getting people to kung fu bullshit levels, but in terms of basic logistics they're probably people who field small groups as opposed to armies. That said, I figure they'd probably have SOME kind of heavy ordinance, especially since they used to be part of the Imperium. It might be re-purposed however.

>>
>>53830101
Well yeah, they're probably like the Eldar or if humanity had only Space Marines. Armies made up entirely of elites, without any cannon fodder really.

Also, if they do have heavy ordinance, it should be some kind of psychically powered particle cannon because I feel like that's the sci-fi equivalent of a Vajra. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajra

Actually, given the bullshit kung Fu people are mentioning, actual 'super secret martial art styles' would probably work well as sorcerous paths. The ones that are 'dangerous to learn' result in warp corruption of the 'normal' kind rather than the tranquil variety practiced by these lunatics.
>>
>>53830153

>>
Field as Daemons of Tzeentch IMO, obviously with heavy kitbashing
>>
>>53830212
The ones with 'natural talent', sure. Or maybe they'd be the archetypal chinese alchemist mystic. I don't know.
>>
>>53830253
I mean we could use the whole thing where Chinese Alchemy was split into two parts. External alchemy was making potions and stuff with the end goal being the elixer of immortality, Internal alchemy was gaining such control of your body that you could convert chi into ching, and were therefore immortal.

So some sorcerers are hardcore casters based around alchemist style fabius bile bullshit, and others are kung fu super ascetics?
>>
>>53830298
I was more thinking alchemy in a less literal sense. High science doped with psychic abilities, so almost eldar-like in it's function. Less refined though, and significantly closer to regular Admech stuff.
>>
>>53830153
Probably it's another path of sorcery/psychic powers.

The martial arts are designed to teach the acolyte how to use the flow of chi/energy/the warp. With a style for each of the major disciplines. (kinda like the thousand son's pre-heresy cults)

The Biomancer stylists practice study how chi flows through the body, strengthening their skin and bones to become like iron, or striking pressure points in their enemies.

The Divination style is all about predicting what your enemy will do, and defeating him before he can defend against it.

The Pyromancer martial artists are the most flashy, igniting the air with their fire dances, and forming it into wheels and other glorious structures.

Likewise, the Telekinetics are also flashy, using their martial art style to strike from a distance, for they know that space is but another illusion of the materium, and that all is one.

The telepaths are the rarest of the styles, for they spend much of their time in meditation. They can send their minds out to talk with others - linking the temples of the hundred and eight worlds, like beads on a necklace. When forced to fight, they are likewise formidable, for their attacks strike not at the flesh, but the spirit.
>>
>>53830298
More the sorcery for martial arts, just because it fits so easily as 'super sendai martial arts powers' as Sorcery. Actual Psykers who were 'internal' martial artists would be using something like Exalted's Solar Hero martial arts - random bullshit they develop themselves. The 'External' ones being the out and out psyker-alchemists.

another thing to consider about their army is what the industrial base behind it is like. On one hand 6k years of peace and good government would do a lot towards making the worlds in question wealthy by imperial standards On the other hand, a culture that focuses on asceticism and no organizations like the mechs to provide technological aid could lead to an anemic manufacturing sector.
>>
>>53830241
I'd say a human army (or chaos force) backed up with the occasional daemon (they prefer deva)

As the 108 worlds are in a becalmed pocket of the warp, so to are their heavens.

These would include the terrifying black skinned and red haired guardians of the sacred places (Who others would see as unusually calm Bloodletters); the comely nymphs of paradise who tend the gardens of the gods (their connection to the Daemonettes is obvious); the disturbing hungry ghosts who devour the bodies of the dead may be feared -- but they do their duty as do we all (Plaguebearers), which of course leaves the perpetually dying and reborn deva who taught the martial arts to humans. (Pink and Blue Horrors)

They are all led by the four heavenly kings, Greater Daemons of the four lords of Chaos who are as changed as any other inhabitant of the 108 worlds.
>>
>>53830431
They probably work very slowly, but the stuff they make it incredibly powerful. Or, more interestingly, they've figured out Warp based methods to expedite the whole process. A sorcerer could mix the right alchemical reagents and poof a whole bunch of steel into existence without any mining or forging.

What is the name of this place?

>>
So what's their relationship like to the other factions?

>Only War
Yes, yes we know. But in what way? Courteous shadow wars with the Eldar? "They Shall Not Pass" style attrition with the IoM? A strange martial respect for the Orks?

>>
>>53835315
I'd see the IoM planning on annexing them, but still treating them with some sort of respect due to them not being xenos-lovers or absolute chaos worshippers.
They'd be planning on purging them, but still find some sort of respect in the way they pushed man to its limits in their own way.
And I really want to see imperium sided Renegade monks. Emperor monks.

So i would assume that at some point an inquisiter would start digging a bit deeper and would find out about the cult
How much of a shitstorm would be caused?
>>
>>53835981
It's a weird kind of cult, so even finding out exactly how heretical it gets is going to be damn hard. I think one thing we've been leaving our is that if these daemons are manifestations of the Big Four's more positive aspects, they're absurdly rare. There are a lot more people who worship Khorne as the bloody god of conquest and slaughter than as the god of righteous honor and sublime training. These daemons are going to be rare as fuck, they're going to be hidden, and they're going to be halfway between folklore and ancestral figure to many of the planets in the Nerakan.

If an Inquisitor does manage to find out and get the message out before getting silenced, shit is going to hit the fan so hard it might as well have been shot from a baneblade.

It might even still have elements of Emperor worship - think of how in the real-world Tibet, even with lots of influence from Buddhism and Hinduism, older spirits of the mountains still exist. The God-Emperor could be seen as some enlightened sort of individual, even if his worship has declined due to the long span of history without contact with the Imperium.
>>
>>53836200
>Inquisitor confuses stylized depictions of Daemons as stylized depictions of Primarchs and Saints.

I'm okay with this.
>>
>>53836200
I think this is the ticket. The Buddha figure has to be obviously the Emporer and very predominant. And in a way it's true, with him sitting on the Golden Throne and essentially being one with the Warp. Perhaps the people of the 108 planets don't even connect the dots, but the Ecclesiastical and Inquisition forces see it's clear as day from the outside who these Buddha statues are supposed to really represent.

Would those with high levels of spiritual understanding be able to see the light of the Astronomicon, even if it's only at some abstract level beyond articulation?

The four chill demons would present themselves as the four great immortal teachers who lead the people on their way to enlightenment and oneness with the Emporer and the universe. Maybe it's a ruse, maybe it's not because the worship only makes the tranquil warp even more tranquil.

They are not, however, part of the IoM because the rest of the universe cannot let go of its need for physical existence and attachment.

Make it like China and Tibet.

Imagine how bum bothered an inquisitor would be if demons guided them to be pious (even if esoteric to an extreme degree) and loyal to the Emperor but not the IoM.

Would reaching enlightenment involve turning into a minor demon or dying and having your soul dissolve into the smooth glass like sea of the undisturbed warp?

Okay, what if the Daemons all dwell on one particular world, gifted by their redeemer and purifier. In normal terms this would be a daemonworld, because there the immaterium and materium are one.

Here, however, the daemons/deva of each kindred do not fight. Working together under the four heavenly kings: The General of Heaven, the Laughing God, the Peacock Sage, and the Concubine of Paradise.

I'd add some aspects of Ardhanarishvara, the composite form of Shiva and Shakti, showing how one cannot separate masculine and feminine, and that they are both halves of a heavenly whole.

If the warp is so supremely calm and serene, would that mean psykers and AI are actually very stable and not blasting into warp corrupted monstrosities?

Well, there already are electro-priests in the Imperium, and Chaos has the Obliterator. The 108 Pearls of Nerakan may have something similar.

I imagine their military to combine aspects of the guard, the admech, and chaos into a whole. Deva weapons, mass ranks of soldiers armed with las-pikes, sorcerer-psyker-martial artist-monks, and the occasional Deva.

Weapons based on the Vajra would make sense, as >>53830138 described. Maybe make them have arc weapons as a basis?

Vehicles could include chariot based troop transports, temple cars, elephantine-Deva Engines, and floating lotus-like anti-grav platforms.
>>
>>53837809
Used to be a thing back in the RT days.

Sensei Masters, "daemon princes" of the Star Child (the god the Emperor was becoming), they would actually ascend -- becoming part of him, but could return to help those in need.
>>
Another interesting dimension of their military would be their space ships. Considering the warp was so chill there they very probably wouldn't bother with Gelar fields. And since awareness of the Astronimicon would be stronger and more common in their population they likely could travel extremely quickly and accurately in their home region, but would be eaten alive if they ventured outside it.

So, a big question.

Do they have space marines?
>>
>>53838260
I'd say probably not. 6600 years isn't a long time to a marine chapter, so if one was present they could likely keep 108 worlds under Imperial culture for that time. We can diverge further and in more interesting ways without them present.
>>
>>53838186
Any if anything chaos related ever journeyed inside it would get sleepy and take a nap. Which means it would turn back before going totally comatose or be easily swept away.

I like this idea, it makes even the farthest separated worlds effectively next door neighbors in terms of travel.

>>53838260
No, but they have warrior chi masters who are pretty much on the same levels. Even if there was only about a dozen out of billions from each planet could achieve such mastery, it would still be about Chapter strength all in all. Acolytes and typical monks would be like the scouts/initiates.
>>
>>53838307
Makes sense. Plus of course this way their armies diverge further.
>>
>>53838260
I would imagine no, the presence of space marines at the start would probably make most of the tranquility not exist due to them going to war against daemons.

Sort of. In the same way you've got monks screaming SHADOWLESS KICK in old wirefu movies and teleporting to kick someone in the balls, that SHADOWLESS KICK is actually a sorcerous ritual, as are all the other moves. Instead of just flat out adapting current paths. You've got people who meditate to make themselves as strong as steel, or light enough to leap from raindrop to raindrop. As the person who started the chain mentioned. Tabletop stats probably would just give them one or two thematic abilities, and make them either solo/scount units, or sergeants.

Psykers would probably follow the inner path and just have some bizarre melange of martial arts 'styles'. Outer path ones would probably be squad leaders, randomly buffing their followers each turn without th chance of their faces melting off.

>Rakshasha Marines

Makes sense, too deviant now for Mars to permit propagating, yet still loyal after a strange fashion. Their usual opposition to the local warp presences (because they still maintain records of 'the old/true warp') makes them isolated and paranoid.

Perhaps to fit with the Rakshasha legends they channel this distrust into a focus on illusions and misdirection (through a combination of mild hypnosis, holo-projectors, and a knack for the common art of disguise and camouflage. Huge focus on shock and awe, smash and grab raids in which a squad bursts out of hiding after having waited undercover in plain site for days.

They don't have a lot of gear, but they've at lot of acumulated cunning and almost infinite patience interspersed with spasms of explosive violence.

Being trapped in a pocket dimension with little threats probably means they're certainly not using mass recruitment. You'll probably have a professional warrior caste, with carapace armour, fancy weaponry, and a whole lot of practice -- if little actual experience.

Going back to that military academy. Would it feature that honor daemon of Khorne as a patron, a protector, even an instructor? It was started by the General of Heaven, who knew that there were many enemies who would wish to destroy peace.

He trained the first students personally, and showed them how to make weapons and armor of all designs. He showed that power could be attained not just by meditation, but by actively struggling against the world. In his words, he taught them to "Reach Heaven Through Violence."

Note that he never meant that they should behave as mindless animals, throwing their number into the grinder of war, but that through martial practice, they could become one with the flow of universal energy, and so become one of the ascended masters (or daemon princes)

Glorious Thread. I love everything about this.
A rigid caste system works well for this culture.
Calm demons is rad, as long as there's not too many, and they get to fight other demons for control sometimes.

Perfect.

But Daemon on Daemon duels should be highly theatrical affairs because of the powers involved. Too much would draw the standard daemons or attention from the Four ruining all of this.

In all honesty the space Tibet idea was too Mary Sue to be reasonable, I knew that when I suggested it. But it's cool to see where people.have gone with it. Shame it would only really work as it's own setting
>>
>>53842026
The entire philosophy of Space Tibet could be just a lie by a Greater Tzeentch Daemon.
>>
>>53842188
The people know it's a lie, but they follow it anyway. All of reality is false
>>
>>53842188
>>53842218
It started as a lie, but through the casting off attachment, the falsehood became reality

In speaking lies, the Daemon spoke truth, and thus unmade itself

It is this paradox that becalmed the warp bubble
>>
>>53842375
The concept of 'lie' requires a concept of 'truth'

As the people of the Beads, once a string of scribe worlds, chose this as truth, their will impacted the falseness of reality.

The universe is a prison shaped by our own minds. When we shape the prison by our wills, the bars may vanish, and the prison becomes a doorway to nothing
>>
>>53842026
>space Tibet idea was too Mary Sue to be reasonable
It is to comfy to be disregarded.
And in setting as big as galaxy any unlikely event chance chance of happening approaching certainty.
If I understand how warp works there should be some kind of demons representing virtues, cause chaos gods are not rape and murder but also positive things that are repressed by rape and murder, so if demons are parts of chaos gods, then there should be parts representing that "better" nature of said gods. Also Ultramar was described as calm place in the warp thanks to happy and content population.
IoM reaction could be hostile neutral with great deal of sabre rattling while being super happy that they could throw forces somewhere else where IoM is on defensive.

So very unlikely but possible, so mary-sueish but why care?
>>
>>53842375
That, for once, is a plot worthy of Tzeentch.
>>
>>53842506
The secret to truly banishing Greater Daemons of Tzeentch is to yell Koans at them until they get stuck thinking about one, contemplate a paradox, and implode.
>>
Whats the philisophy of the nurglites?
>>
>>53842553
Acceptance. It is the nature of the world to be harsh, to be cruel, to be daunting, and to be a thousand other things. To the Nurglites however, this is not something to strive against. They accept the dark of the universe as how it is, and know that they cannot change it. Instead, they foster a philosophy in which they accept all hardships and changes with perfect calm and unfailing serenity.
You know those zen monks who can pluck flies out of the air with chopsticks? That's these guys. Because they're so perfectly in tune with the universe that the flies don't notice them.
>>
>>53842499
>If I understand how warp works there should be some kind of demons representing virtues,
Most if not all of which were wiped out by the demons of rape and murder, but while contemplating it in the shower I came up with some shit.

First, as another anon suggested, they still exist mostly within the warp. The pathway to their system fades in and out of reality at unreliable intervals, and a small minor Inquisition Ordos (now long forgotten due to it's secretiveness since this information would be explosive if it got out) maintains a constant vigil as well as a small strike fleet at all times to try and invade to gain a foothold for a crusade.

Second, the stability of the Reclusiam is drawn from a number of sources - first the peace and contentedness of the populace, the willing sacrifice of becalmed zen buddhist pyskers who eventually meditate themselves to death to smooth the glass of the warp in a sort of willing parody of the Astral Choir, and third the Great Mandela, a device erected by the esoteric and arcane order of the Heretek Adeptus of the Reclusiam. This vast, multifaceted, heretekical warp machine captures the light of the nearby (relatively speaking) astral light house of the golden throne and focuses it down on the string of world beads like a mirror. This has given them a great deal of peace since the end of the Heresy.

Even then, there are still daemonic incursions, which is why they maintain a small but elite standing army, trained in the 8 great temples of violence by the Wisdom Kings of Khorne.
>>
>>53842553
Several ways you can go about it, but you could always go with:

The followers of Nurgle laugh because life and death are eternal, they will often sit in gardens to meditate on this, watching how the wheel of life continues.

They are slow to rouse in anger, or other emotions, for all things pass. But once they do, they will not relent, will not give in, and will not retreat. They do not even fear death, as they know that the Laughing God, the Lord of All, the Master of the Wheel shall turn ever onwards.
In the midst of darkness, of pain, of suffering: Life persists.
>>
>>53842636
Meanwhile, whenever the gate to real space opens, they try to send out ships and agents (to varying degrees of success since they lack gellar fields, instead only having pysker monks meditating to protect them) in order to seek out Sensei for unknown reasons (the inquisition claims they sacrifice them, which is ironic because that's what the Inquisition does too) to bring back to their realm. Exactly why should be left a mystery.
>>
>>53842636
>>53842672
Finally, as >>53842188
>>53842218
>>53842375
>>53842420
>>53842506
said, it was initially a LIE told by a Daemon of Tzeentch, but the lie escaped it's control and the essence of the great daemon was woven into the wards stabilizing the warp bubble. Only the most enlightened and initiated ever discover that it is a lie, because only they are equipped to understand that it is irrelevant it was once a lie - if this was revealed to the general populace though, it would lead to the collapse of the entire Reclusiam as doubt and despair would lead to turmoil of the warp and Daemons would slaughter them all.

There are Five Wisdom Kings, and a Five-Fold Path. Each Path leads to enlightenment, it is up to the seeker to choose.

Acala, The Immovable One. Wisdom King manifestation/daemon of NURGLE.

>His face is expressive of extreme wrath,[1][5][6] wrinkle-browed,[5] left eye squinted[5][6] or looking askance,[5] lower teeth biting down the upper lip. He has the physique of a corpulent (round-bellied) child.[5] He bears a straight sword in his right hand, and a lariat[6] or noose in his left hand. He is engulfed in flame, and seated on a huge rock base.[7]

>Acala is said to be a powerful deity who protects all by burning away all impediments antarāya (障難? shōnan) and defilements,[5] thus aiding them towards enlightenment.

CORPULENT. CHILD LIKE. SITS UNMOVING. BURNS AWAY DEFILEMENTS.

THE STAR CHILD. SENSEI >>53842828

>>
>>53842915
I would also henceforth like to move that the warp bubble be referred to as The Womb Realm (the mythological home of the Wisdom Kings), and we tie it's origin in with >>53842828 somehow. A Sensei named Jetsun Dölma (the tibetan name for Tara), fought and spared a Lord of Change or Sorcerer of Tzeentch who had spread falsehood across a cluster of Shrine Worlds. Overawed by this act, the daemon/sorcerer joined Jetsun, and together they changed whatever ritual the sorcerer/daemon had been working on that would cast the string of worlds into the warp to be devoured and instead transported them into the Womb Realm to be shielded from chaos and the ignorance of the Imperium. Just like a proper buddhist epic.

All is not well in the Womb Realm though. In additional to the occasional demonic incursion, the Rakshasa, a chapter of space marines who had been fighting a losing battle against the heresy in the Nerakan Reclusiam were also swept up into the womb realm. Rejecting the Sensei's entreaties for peace and seeing the new order of the Reclusiam as just a different flavor of heresy, these Imperium loyal space marines have waged a guerilla war against the Shrine Worlds of the prayer string for over six thousand years, hiding in the vast reaches of the womb realm and upon worlds inhospitable for human life. They replenish their numbers by kidnapping children and are known to devour their enemies flesh to gain their memories, earning them the name of Man Eaters. They are few in number and ill equipped, but even a space marine in a loincloth with a spear is more than a match for a dozen well armed human soldiers, and they fight with patience and cunning by striking from the shadows at soft targets.

I imagine the other daemons may have been redeemed/enlightened by similar confrontations.
>>
>>53843140
Do not think of daemons as entities, but as waves in the water of the Immaterium.

When the waves meet, they touch, they mix, and several things could occur. They may destroy each other, creating stillness.
One could overpower the other, silencing it, but carrying on, although lesser.
They may combine, strengthening as they become one.

Similarly, Daemons may struggle and eliminate themselves together, they may destroy the other but survive, or they may devour the other to become stronger.

>>53842026
Not entirely. In terms of army composition, you'd have a huge focus on solo units. Groups would be grunts inferior to guardsmen or guardians with a sergeant who could buff them.

>>
>>53846092
So we make it a bit less certain either way.

non imperials that live outside the area of influence of the imperium (edge of the galaxy, even beyond in some ramshakle deep space station or fabricated hulk) since the long past days of the dark age of technology or even before, and have resisted imperial asimilation, be it because distance and isolation or active confrontation. voiders, or inhabitants of dead worlds, asteroids, drifting planetoids. probably many of them genemodded so much they may as well be considered another kind of xenos. some may worship chaos, others may hate it. some may mix up, trade, ally and such with xenos, others could be even more xenophobic than the empire. there's a lot of space out there to develop anyway you like.

i'm partial to the voiders that merc up ( or do straight piracy) and trade with xenos. hatred of imperial depends on past experience.

The warp reflects the people in it, the rest of the galaxy has a violent warp filled with people who possess strong emotions. The lifestyle found in this part of the galaxy is detachment.

The emotions of the people here, as well as the archeotech, keeps the warp calm. Daemons can walk around, however they possess no ill-will to humans, they are beings of serenity.

Whenever beings with vast strong emotions say, space marines, the warp becomes upset. Daemons grow restless, the people here go to war to calm the warp , not to conquer the galaxy.

Chaos is most weak against the people in this part of the galaxy, daemons can turn, spells can fail, and the gods withdraw.

The elder possess a similar doctrine to the collective.

Other races mix up the warp, requiring removial.

>Nurgle. Most changed, I'd recommend going for golden skin, and maybe trying to smooth off the sores and boils. (I know, heresy), or trying to go for a mummified look to reference Sokushinbutsu.

>Tzeenchan. A tough one, but I'd say play up the blues, make Peacocks the main theme here.
>>
>>53851822
It's a kind of yes, but.

Daemons are warp energy given shape, fragments of their lords and masters.

And the lords of Chaos are great and contradictory.

Within their realms, lies the possibility for good works. It is theoretically possible for a Khornate daemon to want to use violence, not just as an end itself, but as means to an end, for instance.

Normally, these beings would be absorbed back into their patron, but here, within the Womb Realm, they have become relatively safe and stable.

Or it's all a big trap, like the Tutelaries of the Thousand Sons.
>>
>>53851822
Kind of but warp is shaped by intelligent creatures emotion and thoughts.
As galaxy is in permanent state of fuck up, so are residents of the warp.

But on the other hand as long as people think about math, there should be demon of math that would be more interested in giving you math tasks to solve than skull fucking you.
But as world is fucked up and nearly everyone is sad, angry, scared or just want to escape from this shit, so angry murder demons are majority by wide margin.

Also if there is demon of math it would interact with materium less as it have less to offer for him, as he could just solve equations in warp, while demon of rape and murder would like to make a trip into materium to rape and kill

Chaos Tau wouldn't work, their souls aren't powerful enough to really be Chaos.

Chaos Necrons wouldn't work either due to the fact they don't have souls.

Chaos Eldar do exist, but they're not represented on the table top.

I think the mummification thing works best, as there are monks who actually begin the process in life. For Nurglites, they just don't die, remaining as withered sages.

Also useful for "plaguebearers."

Just as plaguebearers are born from those who succumb to Nurgle's rot, so too are the Immovable One's devas recruited from the ranks of mortals.

By meditation and living mumification, the monks become creatures of spirit. Although their appearance changes little, leaving their skin papery and brittle, their muscles wasted and atrophied, and their bellies swollen from hunger.
Upon their brow, a third eye opens, like unto that of a navigator, and they often use only this eye, keeping their mortal eyes closed.

The Immovable One gives them each two gifts upon their ascension: a bell, to aid their meditation; and a sword to rebuke temptation.

When they go to war, it is as massed ranks, chanting the ancient sutras of their master.

if anything I would call Reclusiam more nobledark than noblebright. How I personally imagine them:

>The Immovable One - He's massive and squat, like any other Great Unclean One; however his skin is golden, and unbroken by rents or sores. Instead of entrails, he is decorated with prayer beads. His face is still ugly, wrinkled and squinting. But it is still broken into a smile. He is welcoming and joyous.

>The Defeater of Death - A giant clad in armour. (I imagine he's either red or black skinned, with hair of the opposite.) Unlike other Bloodthirsters, he has no wings, they have been replaced with another set of arms. He bears many different weapons in his four hands, such as flail and axe. His head is ringed with a mane-like beard, while a pair of oxen-like horns spring forth from his forehead.

>The Conqueror of Three Planes - Little has changed in this Lord of Change, he still resembles a bird-like humanoid, his feathers covered with eyes. His main difference in accoutrements. He has spurned the staves of his kin, instead relying on a slim blade and his mastery of the martial and spiritual arts.

>the Hand accepts the task of suffering casualties and injury, so that their fellows need not

For someone who doesn't have to worry about bad publicity (because he's fucking ascended already and nothing anybody could say about him could harm him in any way) should just appear and post up a booth reading "Enlightenment and you: Meta-thinking for dummies" and start teaching the masses on how2achieve it yourself. >>
>>53873489
Yeah, I think with the Reclusiam's smaller size and focus on the perfection of the art's via their aspects of Slaanesh and Khorne, a lot more of their gear would be handcrafted. Nice hardwood stocks with prayer etchings, embroidery on their guardsmen fatigues from locals wishing them well, chaplains whittling themselves a set of prayer beads during off hours. They don't have enough infrastructure to really go full forge world, at least not at the scale the imperium does, so they supplement it with the worlds they visit and resupply at.

What are some esoteric powers they could have? How would astral projection work? If the warp is so unbelievably calm could you send your soul across the Void to other planets and have a nice chat with a fellow Zen master to pass the time?

Incredibly fast and easy transportation within the realm. With enough training and power, one could use the warp to teleport themselves to other planets in the system without much need for protective gear.

>>
>>53878810
Well, there is the Gate of Infinity psychic power. However, it's generally only usable for short distances - around 5-10km.

My guess is that you could get a bunch of psyker/sorcerers together to focus their powers together in a ritual, to make an interplanetary one. Naturally, the calmness in the warp helps.

However, this would naturally be very rare indeed, requiring practically all of the telekinetic sorcerers amongst the 108 worlds to come together.
>>
>>53880669
I would imagine having a greater daemon of tzeench as a teacher would help. A lot of safeguards that would otherwise be unthinkable to do without anywhere else would also be unnecessary further simplifying it.

>>53860495
So, thinking on this...

Every time a psyker uses their powers, they disturb the warp.

This would naturally be a big problem for the realm -- their stability would be drained away (and would turn the deva back into daemons), but for some mystic ritual/relic. This source is responsible for the warp storm, it bleeds off the psychic disturbances caused by psykers, and uses them to create the warp storm.

The psykers literally protect the realm by using their powers, as the disruptions are shunted to strengthen the storm.

(If it's an item, it may be some Old One relic)

IF anything, Nurgle is the MOST Buddhist of the big 4. Love ALL life, but do not love any life above any other life. From the greatest honor-demon, to the lowest microbe, all life is precious, and violence is unthinkable, save when it preserves more life than it harms. Seperate from passions, both high and low, into a state of sublime contentment and disconnection that rejects all pain and pleasure. I could see many Nurglite monks becoming living sanctuaries for unloved life-forms that less enightened souls would seek to destroy, and through their enlightened stoicism, they have become immune to the negative effects of these so-called "parasites" and formed a symbiotic relationship with them. Many are great healers who "heal" by offering the "affliction" a place to live peacefully within their own body.

I'd like to think of it how Legends of The Wulin does it. There are two "worlds" that happen to take up the same space. You are either a denizen of the Womb World or the Heroic World. Those within the Heroic World have their own conflicts, often petty, that take place on their own stage, while the people within the Womb World continue to live their life, waiting to be "born" much as those within the Heroic World struggle to be "twice born."
>>
>>53830412
Personally, if I were to represent them on tabletop, I'd probably use Adeptus Ministorum

Sisters are battle monks focused on ranged martial arts

Death-Cult, Crusaders, and Flaggelants, and Repentia are Melee-Monks.

Celestine is a bonified Calm-Daemon

Acts of Faith representing the auspicious numerological blessings of the calm-warp
As for their spacecrafts, I'd think they'd be VASTLY superior in calm-space, because they're built to function there, and within calm-space, they dominate with ease, but in the conditions that the rest of the galaxy has come to accept as the norm, they get BTFO. As such, the battle truly is one for the soul of their little pocket of calm. They fight to keep the peace, because as long as there is peace in the physical plane, there is peace in the warp reflection, and invasion is difficult, if not impossible, but the threat of the rest of the galaxy disrupting their peaceful pockett is an ever-present threat justifying many smaller-scale battles.

Any ideas of what could come out of this one? I figured a world that is often in contact with/attacked by the Imperium, so they've adopted use of more traditional Imperial Guard tactics for their militias, but those are rounded out by peasant volunteers and conscripts with martial art skills and makeshift weapons. Probably use second-hand or crappier equipment, like Malcadors instead of Leman Russes.
>>
>>53890131
It's grimdark the way the (recent fluff) Tau are grimdark. It looks like a paradise on the surface, but only because of a greater evil lurking within. Case in point: how fragile the Still-Warp is.
>>
>>53892834
Auxiliaries also suggests a refugee status of sorts. Humans from the Imperium sometimes defect to the Reclusian, and even their resulting Untouchable status is comparatively better than their lives before. So they gladly throw themselves against their former masters for a chance at ascending to the next caste in another life.
>>
>>53892834
Vehicle wise, I think they'd be heavily into the repurposed civilian equipment.

Siegfried Light Tanks and Goliaths for example.

Could they hang prayer flags off of their vehicles? Kind of in the idea that they're used to the Imperium's very omnipresent kind of worship, and so make do with what they have in exchange. They install prayer flags and small shrines in their vehicles and ships, wear lots of holy symbols, and generally try to arm themselves in faith like they were back in the Imperium proper.
>>
>>53894148
I'd love that - it could be those cool eastern triangular flags with the serrated edges, they could use the daos that real Chinese soldiers sometimes used in WW2 and glaives and more monkish weapons, or maybe work those into their lasguns like some Vostroyan art has them having rifles with axe-blades.
>>
>>53894216
I figure they'd have a lot of combined visual influences too. Commissar's wearing the classic red monk robes as capes, guardsmen affixing shaolin spades to their lasrifles as bayonets, stuff like that.
>>
>>53894894
I imagine they'd combine commissars and priests into a Brahmin style figure.

They're members of the highest caste, and get attached to units to teach them the ways of meditation and protection.
But they are also seen as the guardians of Karma, able to condemn those who have committed terrible crimes against the Reclusium. Their equivalent of faith abilities tends to be a form of this, jinxing enemies by causing their crimes to afflict them in this life.
>>
>>53827480
I feel like the Big-4 rivalries would be different in the Womb Realm. Duality of nature is a natural part of Buddhist spirituality, so the "opposite" gods I could see actually getting along MORE than they get along with their "adjacent" gods. Tzeenchians and Nurglites tend to be slow to action, contemplative, and concerned with the big picture; they get along. Khornites and Slaaneshi tend to be passionate, active, and concerned with the here and now; they get along. If anything Tzeench/Nurgle could get into conflict with Khorne/Slaanesh.

>>53902529
Apsychics - the soulless - are a cursed people. Most cases will be diagnosed at birth or shortly afterwards. The euthanasia is a blessing for them.

Many outsiders would see it as cruel, but apsychics have no soul, and thereby cannot progress through karmic rebirth. They would be condemned to a life as their caste, toiling with no hope of becoming a higher caste in a future life.
Only nothingness awaits them after death.

Of course, nothing is so simple.
Many nobles have realised that, with no chance of rebirth, apsychics can peform karmic sins with no fear of punishment.
More than one apsychic child has been secreted away after birth, claimed to have been mercy killed, and then raised to be an assassin.

Unlikely to be many of the big name xenos. Eldar would find them as blasphemous as the Imperium does (and would also have trouble finding the place if there's no webway gates.)

Orks would be orks, so at most if any are around, limited to a planet or two where everyone tries to wipe them out.

No Tau, since they're on the opposite end of the galaxy.

No nids, for much the same reason. (Possibly some Forgotten Fleet remnants have become part of the biosphere on a death world. Like Serpentine Ravener-based Naga on the Death World of Patala)

A Necron dynasty could exist underneath some of the worlds, but they're unlikely to have woken, what with being in a warp storm and unlikely to have heard the signal.

There's likely some minor xenos species around the stars though. Some may even be accepted -- after all, if they follow right action, they could get reborn in the next life as a human.

I don't know if it rapes the fluff or not, but what about a system of planets populated by humans on the other side of one of the tyranid hive fleets.

As in, the planets were spared from consumption by the typical warp storm handwavium, and so as far as their technology can reach, there is nothing but barren and dead planets around this particular system.

In their isolation, this human system(much like the tau) advanced on their own and has reached a power level adequate to become players on the intergalactic scale.
