Balanced Crunch Edition

Warmasters Triumvirate is an attempt at creating yet another 40k AU. The Primarchs have changed, and instead of appointing a single Warmaster upon returning to Terra, the Emperor leaves the Great Crusade in the care of three of his sons. This eventually culminates in a civil war between Loyalists, Chaos Traitors and Separatists...

>>
>>53874593
'Ere we go again.

What we were talking about?
>>
>>53874644
I think it might be useful to talk about the sort of things that each fork does on the Ullanor Crusade, since right now we have the Emperor rushing towards Ullanor itself with the Gunslingers, Titan Marchers, Custodes, and a massive contingent from the Imperial Army (I'd assume.)

Who is on each Warmaster's flank?
Wherever Gyahdred is, he's close enough to Je'She that Je'She orders him to protect some humies.
>>
>>53875184
How about we add some legions to the Ullanor campaign that aren't represented that much yet? Maybe get some Iron Guard or Sovereign Host in here. We gotta get some love for the other guys in there.
>>
Is it just me or is the order on the spreadsheet fucked up?
>>
>>53876093
How so?
>>
>>53876136
It's all out of order.
>>
>>53876248
Oh yeah, wow. Shit's all scrambled.
>>
>>53876282
Huh, wonder what happened.
>>
>>53876304
Probably a troll.
>>
>>53876507
Is there a way to revert the spreadsheet, or does it have to be done manually?
>>
>>53874593
Well, I guess while we're thinking about the spreadsheet, I could really use some solid feedback on the two stories I wrote earlier regarding Emil talking to the Magos/Navigator.

Those are eventually going to be the foundation of much of Emil's actions immediately post-Nikea leading into the Heresy, so it's very important I get that set up in a way the group deems acceptable.

Any chance yall could help me out there?
>>
>>53868333
The Dreadnaughts thing was more to do with Lambachs obsession with eternal life, it's in the tactics section and the Great crusade section of my document and is what Nurgle uses to convert Lambach. That's the main reason I went with it and the why I gave Lambach that master of undeath title, and yes I'm aware that there is not an infinate supply of Dreadnaughts but Lambach went out of his way to obtain them. Apart from that aspect I wanted CoH to be pretty Vanilla while loyal because all of their army buffs come after they turn Nurgle.
Side note too my main army is Imperial Fists so I have an abundance of Devastators.
>>
>>53878080
Yeah, I get you. Still, Dreadnaughts are more akin to gear than "special rules".

Aside from turning themselves into robots, how do the CoH try to "live forever"? That seems like the place to go in order to find rules.
>>
>>53878545
Hmm it's hard to convert to table top rules without breaking the game sometimes though. Especially if your deliberately going for a Vanilla feel, which is why there is so much love / hate for Space Wolves.
Example: Raven Guard can take Assault marines a troops, Flavorful and not so OP, White Scares can use Jink 5+ on their bikes, which is nice because all bikes get +1 toughness. Wolves get Thunderwolves instead of bikes for only 5 points more and they get +1A, +1S, +1T, +1W and rending. Also all of thier power weapons are an additional +1 strength just because. See the point I'm trying to make here? I really don't want the Chosen to operate too far out of the lines, but the Dread theme I personally think fits nicely for them and isn't game breaking cause 7thed Dreads are A) Kind of crappy and B) very expensive points wise, so you probably still won't be taking too many of them.
>>
>>53878648
With Hecate being one of your inspirations, seems like "Medicine" would be a flavorful route to take. Start like Isha, end like Nurgle? Something to do with Apothecaries? Frequent use of vat-cloned limbs?

(Repairing Marines in the field like you would a vehicle, just staple-gun some fresh parts on and keep on rolling?)
>>
>>53878704
Oooh! Maybe they got some of the tech from Rpaketsin and the XVth. It'd be a perfect way to amp up the creepy.
>>
>>53878704
It's flavorful, but something that is really hard to put on tabletop without breaking the game, Considering on the tabletop the maximum number of Apothecaries you could have is 2 and they only have an effect on the command squads they accompany, It could easily be seen as unfair to allow every squad to take 1, especially because I really want them to be able to be led by weak versions of Librarians. I guess something I could say is that if I have a Sorcerer squad leader like 1000 Sons do then they can only take the Biomancy power that gives the squad "Feel No Pain".
Mostly though while these guys are my own and I love them, I'm pretty scared of going to snowflake on them and making them to overpowered, especially sine they will gain a bunch of rules once they convert to Nurgle.
>>
>>53876563
Manually I guess.
>>
>>53878990
Well, it is your Legion, and I can't fault you for wanting to keep powercreep to a minimum.

I've just seen "A Dreadnaught Legion" show up in literally every other Alt-Heresy, as well as half a dozen "Build a Chapter" threads over the years. Felt like you were selling yourself short a little bit is all.
>>
>>53879060
I honestly do appreciate the feed back mate, and maybe I am letting crunch affect my fluff a bit too much. I'm unsure, I haven't been involved in any of the other AU's, I really don't know much about them. The Idea of the Dreadnaughts was that it had a good way of connecting the crunch and the fluff while Lambach was Loyalist to make him kind of a Necromancer, something that he takes more to the extreme when he goes to Nurgle, then the dreads will start to fall away because they have no access to new ones and they also don't die, really.
For the most part though wanting them to go the Vanilla route to start with I think less is more, so I'm happy with a simple unit swap and Librarian squad leaders as their only real chapter special rules. I do have to have a think about exactly how to make them fair once they go Nurgle.
>>
>>53874593
I think we need to upgrade this picture, No idea what the color scheme for Emperor's Dragoons actually is.
>>
>>53879224
Yeah, we actually are missing the Ussar and phantoms as well.
>>
>>53879224
I think we're missing quite a few anons as well. I'm hoping we pick up again during the work week.
>>
>>53875846
Alright, let's assign the Soaring Host to Marduk and the Iron Guard to Aristide.

This gives us 8 legions involved at the moment.
I recall Pacha being there and the Questor's Wardens get no love, so we can stick them with Aristede or Marduk for personality conflict. And for a third, how about the Pale Hounds? This gives a total of 11 legions for the crusade.
>>
Has it been worked out which legions are with each Warmaster?
>>
>>53879857
We know the final makeup of the factions, yes. Who joins when and where is less clear.
>>
>>53879906
Sorry man, I meant it in as do we know which legions are with which Warmaster during the Ullanor Crusade?
>>
>>53879589
Eleven is a lot of legions in one crusade.
>>
>>53879996
See >>53879589

>>53880139
True. So we can cut it to 8, initially, but I think after the emperor goes down, everyone is going to want a piece of the Orks that did it and having time for them to try (and for things to go slowly) gives time for people to get pissed at each other.
>>
>>53879996
I think Xun's sorting that out now.

>>53880139
It is Ullanor though, the biggest of them all. And we've made it bigger to KO the Emperor.

Just because a Legion is "there" also doesn't mean that all 100,000 Marines are there necessarily.
>>
>>53880177
The timeline I propose, then is
>Crusade is launched, 4 prongs as discussed earlier
>Emperor pushes deep into Ork territory. Kill da boss and it collapses.
>About a year in, deep in Ork territory, the Emperor falls, as discussed previously
>his prong pulls back, triggering a slowing of the war on all fronts
>everybody digs in to figure out what the fuck is going on
>hotter heads resent this
>reinforcements are called for
>a dysfunctional family outing later, the war is over

Fuck it, time to write some random shit.

>Edict of Belisarius

Navigators are not psykers by the conventional definition, but their Third Eye can gaze across light-years to plot courses for vessels, and through close association with the Steel Souls and their unique mental abilities certain navigators of that House have honed their Eye for more close-range purposes.

When a large enough unit of Steel Souls (or their equivalent of individually stronger psykers) goes to ground and holds position, focusing on nothing but forming a temporary psychic beacon, a Belisarius Navigator upon a Strike Cruiser or Battle Barge in orbit can lock on to that signal. With a successful acquisition, unbelievably precise bombardment coordinates can be achieved, far beyond the abilities of mundane cogitators.

Not every Belisarius Navigator is capable of this feat however, and forcing Marines to hold position comes with its own costs.

>Rite of Fractured Steel

Occasionally when a Steel Soul Legionary fails in some task, their honor is so soiled that they consider themselves unworthy to be part of the Legion's mental frequencies. Most of the time such Astartes simply isolate themselves for a time of penance, or volunteer for suicide missions. The Rite of Fractured Steel is the final and blessedly rare option for Marines who feel they must answer for some terrible sin.

Tech-priests surgically alter the Marine's brain, distorting his mind-link and hijacking those abilities for the purpose of controlling a handful of drone automata. Marines that go through the Rite become their own squad, moving as one eerily precise whole. Such a warrior becomes little more than a servitor himself though, living in an eternity of agony as his consciousness flickers through multiple bodies simultaneously.

It is no small feat to tear a mind asunder, and only highly skilled Magi will even consider attempting it. Only death will free a Rite-bound soldier.

Thoughts?
>>
>>53880846
I like both ideas, though I have to say the Fractured Steal thing sounds like something I was working towards with the Dusk Phantoms, albeit via different means.

Gesar Klagri was working on stuff with manifolds. As it is, the Nosferatii often have a manifold via the MIU implanted as part of their cerebro-surgery. They use it to interface with each other, Thallax, and hunter-killer drones.
Klagri sees this and sees the Skitarii manifolds, as well as the titan manifolds, and decides it would be awesome if he could get that going for the legion, but also have a single marine controlling multiple units.
On the plus end, this leads to some weird shit in the Nosferatii.
Eventually, I was thinking Klagri and Rpakestin could have horror film love children that are basically hive mind zombie marines.

Anyways, I was thinking in the long run, Klagri would naturally try to mix telepathy and technology. He is Dr. Caligari, after all. So maybe some sort of collaboration that goes horribly wrong?

(I don't see the similarity in concepts as problematic, to be clear. The functions and sources are different.)
>>
>>53881052
I'm not quite sure I follow what you're asking.
>>
So basic>>53881080
ally, that's something the XVth are already doing and one of the guys who specializes in it has an interest in psytech.
You thinking what I'm thinking?

(And people say the Dusk Phantoms are a bunch of weirdos! Bah!)
>>
>>53881080
I mean maybe Gesar Klagri got to know somebody in the Steel Souls and they learned the finer points of nerve stapling and MIU manifolds from him and he got some stuff on psytech. Perhaps this is the result of Gyahdred's request for help following the disaster with his librarius in the 3rd Rangdan Xenocide.
The two Primarchs couldn't make it work time wise, so they had some of their men meet. The successes here lead to the two legions getting closer in the future, which impacts the heresy.
>>
>>53881098
>>53881145
Well, I guess I should also have pointed out that both of those two "special units/abilities" ultimately originate from the contacts Emil makes after Nikea with the Navigators and Mars respectively. Something that evolved over time, rather than being something the Steel Souls actively pursued.

There might still be some sharing possibilities though, yeah, since what happens to both of those contacts after the Heresy is still yet to be determined.
>>
>>53881212
That's fair, though why Mars, when you can go to Stovokor?
(I mean this seriously, as it's also got implications for the two legion's interactions. It may just be that Emil wants the most orthodox thing, or doesn't feel like dragging a brother into it.)
>>
>>53881327
Probably the biggest sticking point would be that for the Steel Souls, undergoing the Rite is basically volunteering not just to commit elaborate ritual suicide, but also turning yourself into the worst aspects of Voldemort's Horcruxes and condemning yourself to a living hell, and then upon death you get to experience the *actual* hell that is the Warp when you die, lol.

It's not the kind of thing they talk about very much, kind of like the Blood Angel's Red Thirst and shit.

They'd probably look at the Brotherhood's request and go "why the shit would you want to do that to yourselves, this is something that only Steel Souls who are remorseful to the point of insanity undergo", lol.

The Rite has its uses, but the Legion would just as soon never enact it. It just so happens that their gene-seed and brain chemistry permits such a violation to be possible if you really put their grey matter on blend.
>>
>>53881327
>>53881409

Hmm.

Still, collaboration seems possible, I'm just not sure what the Brotherhood would actually learn from the Souls in this particular endeavor. The Rite wouldn't even be possible without Emil's gene-seed, so the techniques and procedures they develop for it probably wouldn't be super applicable to the Brotherhood.
>>
>>53880846
That sounds pretty cool man. Also your other stories are awesome. I really like the way you write, and the content seems like a cool idea as well. One thing I am curious about is how Emil's project looks after the Secession and the ruinstorm
>>
Holy shit, the Leviathan Host rules are looking like they'll be really strong...
Also, a couple things:
1) Silverish, weak Psykers is a difficult thing to make into a real downside, as with 30K lists it won't usually come into affect (generic Librarians aren't very good anyways).
2) Sadly, things like unit availabilty and gear access is an army selection modifier or Rite of War rule, not a Legiones Astartes. For the CoH, I'm thinking of giving their Dreads some buffs and giving their squads pseudo-psychic powers, their downside I'm not so sure about. Borp, you said they search for eternal life, right? Are they scared of death? If so, I can definitely work that into a rule.
Sorry if I'm sounding pushy on this
>>
>>53882118
>Roger Roger
Let's say that they only have access to two or three tables. Will work on that.

>>53880354
The Blades can answer the reinforcements call. Another Legion can take their position wherever they are, and the Blades will still fight there.
>>
>>53882423
Or maybe negative modifiers to harness or launching.

I say that they are weak because they are not fully trained as battle psykers. Their job is to find and train psykers, support the Legion as a whole in several ways, serve as astropaths, warding the lore of the Legion...
Also helping in battle with flashy stuff, but that's not their main task. Do what you want.

Also...what about giving my Apos a rule to extend their FnP to a certain radius if they don't shoot nor charge/fight?
>>
>>53882118
Not really that they are scared of death, they'll die if needed. Mostly it is a mixture of 2 things. The first being that when Lambach took over there were very few marines left in the legion, so he wanted a way of "recycling" marines too badly injured to fight. Secondly Lambach believes in honouring Wisdom and Experience above all other things so keeping around Veterans in dreadnaught form do they could pass that wisdom to new generations also worked. Lambach abhored seeing his sons wasted. It was different if unavoidable to serve the imperium, but the main thing that turns him to chaos is that he saw the edict of Nikea as a needless waste of the Chosen and it flipped a switch in him.
>>
>>53880354
Sounds right to me.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for a new name for Matlalihuitl? They've been changed from an aztec legion to a native American indian legion, so let's change this clusterfuck of a name. I'm trying to get into contact with him, but he's been absent for a while. Which actually leads me to my next questions:

What should be do with legions who's anons are absent? We shouldn't just remove them, so don't even bother Rokuten. I suggest we take legions with inactive anons and just start using them ourselves, handing control back over if the anon does return. We shouldn't fundamentally change them, but we should feel free to bring them into events and add characters to them.

Thoughts?
>>
>>53880354
Sounds fine to me

>>53884339
Or we could encourage lurkers to take 'control' of them and help expand them in the AU
>>
>>53884452
I thought of that too, but that can create conflict when an anon returns. Then again, some, like the Disciples and the like, are most likely never going to be picked up by their anon.
>>
>>53884339
I agree with not bothering to replace them. Except for Napoleons legion. We removed the Pillars for his legion to come in. And even made him a warmaster.
We have almost 0 info on what is 1 of our supposedly 3 most important legions.
Not even a colour scheme.
At very least I think we should consider putting Rotuken back in as Warmaster?
Or at very least advertising a few legion slots that we want people to take over. If they wish to actually change the legion what would we lose?
>>
>>53884491
I agree we need much more content on the Emperor's Dragoons, but from what we've heard from him he seems like a good fit. We need to poke NapoleAnon is get more stuff done.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do not think Rokuten is a good fit for Sep Warmaster, if only for the simple reason that I doubt the Emperor would trust him enough to make him Warmaster. Plus, Rokuten's desire for power and his attempts to get it are an important part of his character, something that's wasted when he actually becomes Head of State of the Seperatist Union.
>>
Update: Frederick's back, so that's all g
>>
>>53884766
Is he? Cool, that solves my complaining haha. I just think we need a lot more on his dudes as he is a warmaster. I like his Legion idea but we have very little to go on.
>>
The community Legions can be a valid solution, if needed. Giving the Legion to an anon who has nothing to do with the project can cause problems if the Anons return.
>>
>>53884339
>2017
>Not speaking Nahuatl.

But for plebs and also matching the legions cultural stuff, I think the first question is what groups they're borrowing from. It'd be really weird, for example to have them be massively Sioux but have an Tlinglit name.
>>
>>53884339
well if he's still winged it should be a name that has something to do with that.
Chayton means Falcon in Sioux so that could work.
other options include: Elsu (Flying Falcon), Gaagii (Raven in Navajo), Kangee (Raven in Sioux), Hevovitastamiutsto (Whirlwind in Cheyenne), Minninnewah (also whirlwind in Cheyenne) or Kwahu (Eagle in Hopi),

I feel ya. I admit I do not know enough about native american culture to really know the difference, but I also feel like we shouldn't base the entire legion on a single native tribe or people's.

I'm liking Elsu, Kangee and Kwahu.
>>
>>53887754
Thanks, who are you tho?

>>53887834

>>
>>53887924
Oh, whoops. I'm me.
>>53887834
Agreed. I am imagining something of a plains feel and I think the Southwest would be cool, but that may just be the Sergio Leone talking.
But I'm imagining that a movie about the Soaring Host would be all panoramic shots.
Jetbikes, speeders, flyers, bikes, assault marines.
>>
>>53888105
I just realised the cowboys and indians aren't actually enemies here. Well, sort of, Khorne doesn't like Tzeentch, but still…

>>53888003
Then it's down to Elsu and Kwahu. Maybe some other name suggestions?
>>
>>53888404
So what are you thinking in terms of their tactics and antecedents?

Since I could also see a sort of stealthy woodland legion, but I think the motifs would be totally different. (Going to file them away for next time...)

I'm thinking about the homeworld for the Soaring Host being dry. Plains and deserts and mesas.

They have desert riflemen sniper/seeker squads. Ooh, and desert mystics who carry special desert plants, sort of like the Stormseers of the White Scars.

And maybe they have an honor practice akin to counting coup, though I don't know how that would work.
>>
>>53889670
They are the Tzeentch legion, so they're pretty much required to make use of some Psychic powers.

I'd like to see them make use of bikes too, as well as neatly decorated Jump packs and planes, just to keep with that bird aesthetic.

So… shamanistic warriors who combine their psychic powers with fierce rushdown combat. Add some air support and dudes on bikes and I think we're on to something.
>>
>>53889726
Since Shamans typically practise divination and healing, maybe we could have some psyker apothecaries who fill a very video game style support role. Like, they use biomancy to heal wounds and buff nearby warriors. Perhaps some of them even do this on the move, riding a bike through allied lines, dispensing healing and physical enhancement to all who need it.
>>
Sooooooo, Folks in the discord reckon we should call the primarch of the soaring host Elsu Eyanosa (what means Flying falcon of brutal death) and want to change the name of their homeworld to something more Native American sounding, seeing as it was originally just called an Aztec name for earth. Any Ideas?
>>
>>53890438
That would be really cool.

Other stuff for the Soaring Host:
>the Primarch is now named Elsu Eyanosa
>The anon is back
>We need a name for the homeworld.

I'm throwing up some Sioux names:
Hehaka Sapa, Black Elk
Mahpiya Luta, Red Cloud
Thashunke Wikto, Crazy Horse
Chaoha, 'in the wilderness'
Mato Gi, Yellow Bear
>>
>>53890945
Wihakayda, Land of Fire
Tsekooh Hatsoh, the Navajo name for the Grand Canyon

So while we're at it, what do we want to do about the Quaestor's Wardens? Is he coming back?

And the Disciples. Last time we talked about about them as a power-metal-rock-opera. If we've got no ideas, I'm going to start making up stuff as Gyahdred invades. after his assault on the Death's Heads.

Also also, thinking Nosferatii and other such semi-dead figures in the Dusk Phantoms have a distinct color scheme. Pic related.
>>
So who is the scariest Primarch?
>>
>>53893560
Linares. Slightly smaller than Pacha, much more angry, and with a sword bigger than you.

Bye Bye, Curze!
>>
>>53893597
>Clarification
Linares' character is usually joyful and friendly, but while in combat, this may change, deriving into a rage and angriness simmilar to the ones of the Angry Marines, especially when fighting against a much hated enemy, like the Gunslingers and the Orkz. Fighting against other enemies, however, his character won't change much.

>>53893560
Probably Gyahdred, though Isheko can be pretty damn creepy too. Rokuten is just a fucking beast as well…

Speaking of, actually, I'm thinking about Gyahdred's rampage through Yochin's worlds. I'm thinking he pushes through some civilian worlds to get to the war materiel producing worlds and legion fortress-fanes proper.
I'm thinking he bombards some cathedral worlds and releases Elver. Mostly to force the legion to divert resources to repairing the damage and rendering them unsuitable as bases.
I'm thinking he does some really shitty stuff that's for convenience.

Ultimately the Steel Road and the Soul Wires become part of the Separatist Imperium's foundation.

The Steel Road would provide an array of Forge Worlds mostly independent of Mars, and the Soul Wires would probably see even more development with the assistance of all the Separatists' resources to build a communications network across their territory.

Neither of these would replace the Astronomicon (although strictly speaking the Seps could still use the Astronomicon since its light can't be selectively granted), but they'd go a long way towards keeping the Separatists unified enough to be a viable galactic power and not just a bunch of disconnected fiefdoms.

>Legion Unique Vehicle Pattern: Land Raider Minerva

Designed to take advantage of the Steel Souls' unique Legion characteristics, the Land Raider Minerva does away with the Land Raider Phobos' paired twin-linked lascannons and pintle mounted heavy bolter, replacing them with cannons more suited to the psychic Legion. From either side of the tank extends a heavy Psycannon instead, and upon the pintle mount rides a Psilencer device.

Without the massive batteries and bulky capacitors needed to charge the Lascannons, the Minerva-pattern instead mounts a much larger engine, making it perhaps one of the fastest types of Land Raider in the Imperium. (Basically, the Crusader-pattern if the extra transport capacity went to even more engine instead)

Notably, while these weapons are powerful on their own with only the Astartes pilot to fuel them, their potency is boosted somewhat further so long as the ten-man squad remains inside, meditating to combine their strength with the driver's.

>>53895503
Ah, cool. I'll do up some characters later.

>>53897525
So as an outline, I'm thinking:

>Enters Yochin's sectors from the area that faces away from the core, bypassing most of their major defenses.
>Crushes a few border forts with the full might of the legion
>Splits the fleet up, burning worlds as they go, each splinter making for Yochin's core-worlds. In essence, he goes Sherman on their asses.
>Gyahdred has his men go full Night Lords on a number of worlds, scaring the population into flight in hopes of triggering a panic and evacuation
>During this, Cold Ships infiltrate Nosferatii onto refugee ships
>This results in massive overcrowding and eats up the resources of Yochin's worlds. It also saps Imperial Army Regiments
>Each splinter appears to be taking a different course, so it's not clear where Gyahdred will strike.
>Suddenly fleets converge on a world and silence it.
>Gyahdred begins laying siege to the core worlds

From here I'm not sure what to do next. Yochin could rush to his people's aid, but he could also be tied up on the front.
Either way, I'm thinking the level of destruction is part of what pushes Yochin to push for power on Terra. He needs it and his legion preaches double-time to make up for the shortfall in man-power.

Gyahdred could wreck the sector and leave it in ashes, turning to open another front when the ruinstorm hits
He could be doing damage and get recalled to the front to aid things
He could be fought off by Yochin

Reminds me of the Grey Knights land raiders. I'm not sure that it would be faster, though, because the Grey Knights Vortimer patterns aren't any faster, indicating the psytec requires heavy equipment.

I mean, you got a psyker legion that uses psybernetics to bring out the psychic potential of marines, then you have a Grey Knights Land Raider that goes faster than any other Land Raider, like all the memes of the Blood Angel vehicles (Librarian Dreadnought, Land Raiders, Baal Predators) had a spoiled love child.
>>
>>53899485
Yeah, ok.

All I was getting at was "Maybe the psychic Legion should have a psychic tank. It seems like if you strip out lascannons tanks also can go faster sometimes. This seems logical."

If it's excessive that's fine, doesn't have to be an official thing. Like I say, I was just brainstorming shit because it seemed like everyone else had been gone for a while and I was bored.
>>
>>53899543

>>53899600
I've been pretty clear about how the Steel Souls work since the beginning.

All the Marines are low-level psykers, awakened by Emil's gene-seed and their Psybernetics. This is so they can all participate in the mind-web.

The rank and file don't have powers beyond that unless they're temporarily lending those little dribbles of artificial power to strengthen the legion's true psykers that almost always occupy command positions. The only time you'd see a regular Steel Souls Battle-Brother with any real power is if they already had the psyker gene before joining the Legion, and that Marine would almost certainly be getting groomed for command.

Yes, 95% of the sergeants and higher ranks are psykers. The Legion specifically seeks out psykers when recruiting for that purpose. That's why I mentioned in some of my writing that the Steel Souls are extremely "cosmopolitan" and they have no true cultural or historical themes since they recruit from all over the place.

If any of this is an issue, I understand, but I'm not bending on any of it. This is the core idea behind the Steel Souls, mind linked to body linked to technology, and everyone participating in a greater whole.

Me not giving enough fucks to actually care is the truth, consent, and a good thing. We're having fun, let's not bog it down with petty gripes like this legion shouldn't have psybernetics or that legion shouldn't be named after Dwarf Fortress fite me Hektor Heretics. We have a Chaos Dwarf legion, there's no reason to fight.
>>
>>53900283
If you say so. All I really care about is knowing I'm on a secure footing. There's been some other projects I've been part of where I was contentedly writing for quite a while but no one bothered to review anything I did, then all of a sudden it was a huge fucking problem. I'd rather than not happen again.
>>
>>53900283
>>53900389
And I guess with that being said, another question comes to mind.

How are we to determine what is too much? Should there be some kind of limits or guidelines on custom patterns for things? If I decide at some point to brainstorm a custom Predator tank or Lascannon or whatever, how shall I go about it?
>>
>>53900432
No xenos tech.
Must be approved by the Adeptus Mechanicus.
STC must be possessed by the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Or if the concept reads like a particularly nasty Diablo enemy (Like, say, assault ironclad furioso venerable librarian dreadnought).

Honestly, I made an ork weirdboy gargant that shoots fireballs as big as it is and can potentially headbang every ork in a mile radius if it malfunctions, an Eldar aspect that is pretty much Eureka Seven, VOTOMs Guard regiment, and Christian Khornates, so I don't have much room to speak.

>Reference File 4/37/3-Alpha: Crusade Era Figures of the Soaring Host

Note: the names used here are not the true names of the marines, but rather the names by which they are know in the Imperium. These are typically translations of their actual names and are of varying accuracy.

>Crazy Grox
Highly charismatic leader of the jetbike cavalry. Pensive and quiet in his personal life, but a strong leader with a sense of humor. Probably a low level psyker.

>Distant Thunder
Chief librarian. I'm thinking he's a tragic figure. Spends his time trying to get psykers accepted, builds bridges with other legions, tries to improve the life of the imperial citizen, and he returns to his legion to find things have changed.
He returns to the homeworld to find the people dying, sacrificed to daemons. Etc.
He finds the earth poisoned and his legion possessed by some strange cult.
The traditions, their traditions are gone and with it their honor and their sanity.
He gets killed by his primarch.
Maybe some loyalist Soaring Host guys name their group in his honor.

>>53900432
In the case of the vortimer pattern land raider, I thought it made sense besides the increased speed. Your assumption made sense, but the grey knights land raiders suggest that they don't actually get faster when you use psycannons.

Though perhaps I'm the wrong one to ask as I tend to try something crazy and reign it in from there.
>>
SO with the Ogre Legion as anti-psyker we have a 7-7-7 split.

That might be kind of a strange area for the Seps. It would seem like by their very nature, anyone working for the Seps will be more open to experimentation without Mars hanging over their heads all the time. And they probably won't be sharing STCs with Mars either.

Or do most of the AdMech return to the Imperium after the Storm breaks, leaving the Seps to largely fend for themselves as best they can?
>>
>>53900855
Well, they've got the Admech that is loyal to Gyahdred. He is the Dalai Lama of Stovokor and other forges that are trying to get away from Martian dominance.
So they'll have that regardless.
What do people think of >>53899463
>>
>>53900955
I suppose Emil could call upon however many Steel Road Forgeworlds there happen to be on the Separatist side of the Galaxy. He liberated them on Mars' behalf, but there's good reason to suspect they'd be at least as loyal to the warriors who rekindled those planets as to Mars.

A: does that make sense to everyone?
B: how many Forge Worlds should the Steel Road actually include? They're basically a loose chain of worlds that roughly trace Emil's path outwards to the Galactic Fringe.
>>
>>53901008
314.
>>
>>53901008
Although, how many stay loyal depends entirely on how effectively Mars wrestles them to their side.
>>
>>53901037
mmmmm, pie.

>>53901064
Hmm. Well, it makes sense that they wouldn't all act as a unified bloc. Probably there's going to be a secondary war of reconquest after the Ruinstorm comes down and _________ amount of ForgeWorlds consider rejoining the Imperium. The Seps would have to act immediately, since they couldn't risk losing so many industrial bases. And implicitly, forward operating points for any Loyalist assaults.
>>
>>53901008
Actually, how much psytech is involved. As that's tech heresy. Or at least a grey area.

>>53900738
Alternative thought on Distant Thunder:
Is out on goodwill missions as things break down-- Elsu sent him away so he'd not interfere-- and he doesn't get back to the homeworld until after Elsu has gone full chaos. He sees a ruined world and vows revenge.

I have an idea for him involving the XVth, so I may work with him, assuming people like Distant Thunder.
>>
>>53901114
You mean how much psytech do the Forge Worlds produce?

Not very much if any (although they certainly might have tried to copy what they saw in the Steel Souls), because Emil himself has a full understanding of the Legion's psybernetics. That technology was developed and later recovered directly from his homeworld, and Emil studied it extensively before the Emperor found him, particularly since it's literally half his bodyweight, lol.

Psybernetics (and psychic weapons if any) are pretty much produced by the Legion for its own purposes. Because it's so crucial to their existence they would not farm that task out to others.
>>
>>53900955
Regarding your story, I would say it seems good. I would use the "Yochin fights him off" ending, since that balances the narrative out a little bit and also gives Yochin a possible "SEE I TOLD YOU FUCKERS THE EMPEROR IS A GOD" as he divine Super Saiyans his way through a shitload of troops or something to save the day at the last second before it all collapses, maybe.
>>
>>53900432

Anything crazy (xenotech reverse engineering/nonsense of similar sort) should be rare and few beteeen (this goes for both seps and loyalists)

More common ideas (new patterns of already existing vehicles) should be more commonplace, at least with the seps.

Whole new vehicles? That should be discussed by all of us; because at that point we all need to agree.
>>
>>53899463
>>53900955
After giving it some thought, I think that ultimately Yochin should be able to get Gyahdred and his legion to fuck off. The terror tactics should be effective, but would also play right into the Disciples hands, as they could empower the terrified people with faith in the Emperor. His worlds should be broken, but the attack itself should be fended off. He'd move to Terra afterwards.

>>53900432
That is a very difficult question to answer. There's no real, absolute line to draw there. The best solution I can suggest is popping into the Discord and getting some opinions there.

>>53900738
>>53901114
Liking these characters. A good addition to the VIIth. Some of the characters split off from their legion ending up with the Dusk Phantoms is fine in and of itself, but I feel a bit of exposure creep setting in when it comes to the XVth. So far, most traitor legion 'loyalists' have ended up with the Seps.

I'll also be taking a swing at rewording and rewriting some of their stuff today. What planet name did we settle on?

>>53893530
Krees is around on Discord often, I just haven't spoken to him in a while and he's certainly not active. I'll poke him, see what he's looking to do with them.

The Disciples have already been accepted as a community legion. I'm liking their rediculous METAL AS FUCK attitude, so feel free to do with them what you please.

Decent scheme for them, though full white on sneaky marines seems… odd.

>>
>>53890438
I've been thinking a bit more about this idea, and I reckon that A: The psykers who are bikers should probably be more psychicly skilled than the not bikers, seeing as they're having to concentrate both on using their psychic abilities and on driving the bike, and B: these guys might start going the Fabius Bile route post heresy, seeing as he was an apothecary with a thing for experiments and they are psyker apothecaries with a thing for biomancy (which already mutates people, if only for a short while)
>>
>>53903974
>A
Makes sense. I can't imagine it being easy to cast psychic spells while riding a motorcycle, until you pick up the Mounted Casting feat, obviously.

>B
I failed to respond to this yesterday, but I'm up for them having 'support' Psykers. One of their highest ranking apothecaries filling the position of Fabius Bile works well.

Also, I think its important for the Soaring Host, and Elsu in particular, to have some character traits that really mesh well with Tzeentch. They're not gonna be the primary Psyker legion, so we have to have another explanation as to why Tzeentch takes such an interest in him. Maybe he's a scheming prick? Maybe he's a progressive man who wants to see change? Maybe, deep down, he wants to become a woman?
>>
>>53904055
>Women Mehreens
>MFW Yochin appears because messing with father's sacred work
>>
>>53904055
Elsu is already a mutant, perhaps the legion focusses on the more physical aspect of change (I do remember something about Tzeentch being considered the "Master of Mutation" so it could tie into that).
>>
>>53904384
True. I'm having a back and forth with Elsu right now. He's a secrative guy, but the mutant aspect is what draws him to the God of Change. If anything, he kind of lies about the actual effects on the mutation, in order to keep the Emperor and his brothers at bay.
>>
>>53904444
To further add to this:

Elsu is fundamentally a friendly guy that is forced to hide himself away more and more, due to the unstable nature of his geneseed. This also makes him more and more vulnerable to the whispers of the Warp, which have been haunting him ever since his youth. Like many of his brothers, at first he's truly loyal to the Emperor and his dream for humanity, but the Imperium's dislike of mutants and psykers forces him to withdraw himself more and more. He tries to hide the severity of the situation, but that just leads to him sharing less and less with his brothers, which can cause some resentment towards him as well, especially wants it starts effecting joint campaigns.

His relationship with Marduk should be an incredibly important one. Marduk plays it kind of fast and loose with many aspects of the Imperium, so he'd be a confidant of Elsu. He'd tell Elsu that he doesn't judge him for his mutations and that he doesn't have to keep any secrets from him. This would obviously lead to Elsu being one of the first to join the Traitors.

Thoughts on this? I'm getting somewhat unintentional Quasimodo vibes.
>>
>>53904638
Lambach too would not care for his brothers Mutations and would also encourage him to foster his mental powers.
Perhaps after the attempted censure Lambach would turn to Elsu for help. Adding to Marduks encouragement. With 2 of the only brothers he trusts turning to Choas he may feel like he has no other choice?
>>
>>53904821
That makes a lot of sense. This would be before Elsu and Lambach completely lose their minds, so the Nurgle vs Tzeentch thing wouldn't really be a problem just yet.

Elsu would have to keep Lambach secret for a bit though, but he's really good at that, so that works too. Elsu then brings Lambach into contact with Marduk, and that pretty much seals his fate completely.
>>
>>53904638
Could the Fabius Bile stand in be involved in this? Maybe he looks into removing Elsu's mutations or at least tries to conceal the more damning ones and that's how he gets into experimenting on things and doing stuff to their genetics.
>>
>>53905767
That actually works really well, I hadn't yet decided exactly how Lambach got in touch with Marduk but this works perfectly.
Elsu gives Lambach and the Chosen a place to hide and recover on his home world but confides in Marduk who is gis closest brother. Marduk sees this as the perfect chance to draw the 2 legions to his cause and comes to see Kropor in person.
After the 3 agree to start the chaos Movement, Lambach tells Marduk that he thinks he can convery Gyhadred to the cause.
However the Dusk Phantoms have already picked up Tijo Nosebi and the COH who chose not to turn and they already know what Lambach is going to offer, leading to Xun's earlier idea about the 2 legions having a skirmish.
Sounds good?
>>
>>53905949
Sounds fantastic. The only addition to that is that the Loxodontii would be compromised by that point at well. Not sure if Ashur would be collared yet, but Chaos worship would already be prevalent. They're the arch-traitors.
>>
>>53905997
Marduk may already know and have connections there I think. And he'd probably have already sussed out a way to get Kane as well.
>>
>>53906046

>Yochin
Seems legit.
Yochin either abandons a front or quickly resolves things in order to rush home.
With Yochin there, the extra civilians are made into an asset and they hold and begin pushing back the Dusk Phantoms.
They end up dueling when news of the third front comes in.
It's travelled, but they both have recall orders. Something about warp xenos making towards Terra, maybe? And they both withdraw.
This way Yochin gets his win, but neither legion is utterly spent before the major battles to come.
Yochin goes to Terra, taking everything he can with him-- thanks to Gyahdred those worlds are a wash when chaos comes.
Gyahdred goes East, picks up Tijo and has the grudge match with Lambach.

Lambach is planning on trying to turn Gyahdred to his cause, but he's been warned and given a crash course in Chaos. He goes to meet with Lambach, but sets it up as a trap. Mostly it's an assassination attempt. It doesn't really work, Lambach is already nurgley at this point, but it does knock him into the warp for a bit or something. I feel like Gyahdred deserves one of his plans to not backfire horribly.
The resulting battle is hellish, just a total meat grinder. I'm thinking the losses force Lambach to rely more on the warp.

On the Gunslingers, idea for their change:
That sounds good. Calls for backup and nobody comes, so the sheriff tries to defend a whole bunch of Pacha's or Piter's worlds.
They're not particularly well defended, but they've got great infrastructure and luxury accommodations, none of which does Kane any good.
Of course, everyone has good reasons for not diverting, and if Kane wasn't trying to be John Wayne, he'd probably evacuate the worlds and sacrifice a bunch of the population to hold a more defensible spot, and yell at whoever conquered those worlds later.
But he's not, and he's not in a genre where this is really going to go well
So the legion is massacred on a few worlds they're trying to defend and the Ork Warboss comes to Alamo where Kane is defending
(It goes without saying that the Warboss has a cool cowboy name.)
Planet Hadleyville? Nah.
Anyways, it's High Noon
And Kane kills the Warboss in a shootout, which works pretty well, and they clear the orks off the planet. Waaaagh Black Bart is halted, and that's what really matters
But it's cost the Gunslingers enormously
Kane has flashbacks to Yuma and decides he can't trust anybody
Not the legions who couldn't be bothered to help him (we can work that out later for people he has a particular grudge against)
Not for the so-called humanitarians like Pacha and Piter who can't even be bothered to properly defend people
And not the Emperor "beloved by all", who doesn't even validate his struggle
Kane and the Gunslingers gave everything they had at High Noon and for nothing.
From then on, Kane bitterly looks out for his legion, first.

So now that we've got some idea of how the legion works, how are Elsu's relationships?
I think there's a lot of people who will write him off as a mutant since he's not got that Sanguinius vibe going for him.
Who else is closes to him and who hates his guts?

Who's >>53905773 this guy? Is he a chaos plant? Is he someone who starts off well intentioned and ends up going too far?
Is it that he's working dilligently and finds out that in order to cure Elsu, he's got to try and deal with Chaos?

I also think it would be useful if Elsu is also on the block at Nikea. Gives him a reason to distrust his father and the rest of the Imperium. When he sees Psykers getting Censured, he knows he's next.

Also gives a reason for Distant Thunder to be on those good will missions with his company. Starts off with Elsu seeking support, turns into Elsu keeping threats out of the way as the legion changes.

I wouldn't say bounce him jnto the warp just yet. I'm not certain but warp banishment can be for a fair old time I think, amd we still need him around. I'd say both of them are planning a trap on the other, Lambachs incase Gyhadred doesn't see reason. But Lambach has no idea about Tijo already filling Gyhadred in and os forced to retreat, probably using warp powers to do so. However this vould be the first battle where the Chosen really realise the curse Lambach has placed on them and start to question him as those that doed in battle rise again and are none too happy with the outcome.
>>
>>53874593
So, how about this for a custom vehicle, but going in the opposite direction from the Minerva Land Raider that was... maybe not my best idea?

>Accelerant-pattern Scout Hover Bike

The origins of this vehicle pattern are unclear to both Imperial and Separatist scholars. Some hold that it is an invention of Emil's design, others feel that it must have been recovered in secret from some unknown Forge World or collapsed Hive City. A few groups even maintain that it is a heretek design commissioned in secret behind the Emperor's back by persons unknown. Whatever its origins, the Accelerant Scout Bike is notable as being perhaps the fastest of all land vehicles in the Imperium, and it sees use in many Legions both Imperial and Separatist, though the Traitor Legions seem to disdain such a minuscule craft and Daemons will strongly resist being bound to an unarmed bike.

Unlike the standard Attack or Scout Bike, the Accelerant rides on small anti-grav plates much like a Land Speeder's. The Accelerant has essentially no armor, protected only against small amounts of flying debris, and it carries no hull-mounted weapons whatsoever. To protect itself and its rider, the Accelerant-pattern relies solely on speed, speed, and more speed.

Most of the Accelerant's mass is dedicated to thrusters and promethium tanks, and a surprisingly robust cogitator dedicated to scanning the terrain. The grace with which the Accelerant weaves its way through hostile terrain seems almost unnatural to those Magi used to observing lumbering Land Raiders and Predators.

The most interesting feature of the Accelerant is a small series of fans, ducts and liquid cooling systems on the bike's flanks. If a Marine couples his plasma pistol to that vent system, the air rushing by the Accelerant will keep the pistol cool under almost all circumstances so long as the bike is moving.

tl;dr
>fast as fuck
>agile
>handles terrain well
>no main guns
>plasma pistol only

Thoughts?
>>
>>53917597
I think you could safely buff it to a plasma gun, but that's just me. Bikers can usually fire off their handheld weapons.

>>53917418
Ah, ok. Yeah, I was thinking something the lines of Tijo's warnings giving Gyahdred enough information to keep some Sisters of Silence on hand for the meeting and bring the anti-psyker toys.

Lambach gets in there, they have a quick chat, and then Gyahdred launches his ambush. Lambach has his own counter ambush, so while Lambach retreats, we get a battle outside, which catches the Chosen a bit off guard because the Dusk Phantoms are treating this like a Witch-Purgation campaign, meaning that they've got psyk-out grenades, portable gellar fields, and are generally handling this like they'd handle a Khrave outbreak, meaning that while they're still surprised by the horrors of Chaos, they're using the appropriate protocols to handle warp bullshit.
It's not pleasant, but in theory, it's nothing that they've not faced before. I feel like I'm saying this really unclearly.
The Legion has fought rogue psykers and warp borne xenos before and thank's to Tijo's warnings, they know what to expect. It's still horrific, but it gives them a leg up.
And as they reap heavy casualties, the Chosen realize just what Lambach's done.

I'm assuming he'd prefer a planet or asteroid as a neutral meeting ground?
>>
>>53917876
yeah I get ya, a small moon or something?
At this point it won't matter how many Chosen are slain so the Phantoms can have a field day and it can be a slaughter really. Then they all wake up on the Starburst which has pretty much slowly being taken over by Papa Nurgle himself as a space born tomb barge. And they have been badly repaired by Nurglings so some of the more seriously damaged look pretty gross.
>>
>>53917876
>>53902895

So far as Distant Thunder goes, I was thinking he's leading his company alongside various groups and ends up near the Phantoms (this in the wake of Nikea, maybe?)
He knows Lambach regards Gyahdred highly and while Gyahdred has always been distant with Elsu, he's distant with everybody.
Privately Gyahdred empathizes with Elsu, but has never really gotten a chance to chat, so when an emissary of Elsu shows up, he's pleased since Reductor Battalions do not really work alongside Elsu well. (Gyahdred tries Techmarine diplomacy. It has varied results. Some legions just get more creeped out by the Thallaxine Auxiliae, Khorba-Po, and arcane mechanicum war-engines. Others don't work all that well with the grinding siege operations of those forces.)

Distant Thunder chills with the legion for a while, with Gyahdred being sort of unreadable as usual.
He's not sure he's getting anywhere until Gyahdred arranges for him to "accidentally" witness one of the Phantom's Ghost Dances. As predicted, Distant Thunder watches and Gyahdred uses this as an opportunity to chat.
He ends up telling Distant Thunder that he too knows what it is like to keep secrets and that though he has been distant, he wishes to get to know Elsu better. If Distant Thunder is the sort of man that Elsu trusts to represent him, then Gyahdred believes that much good will come from working together.

They campaign together a bit more, Gyahdred having Distant Thunder work with some Warsmith/Ironfather types that I really need to come up with a name for.
They come up with some neat tactics together and Distant Thunder's forces bond with their companions in the XVth. cont.

>>53917993
Ooh, that's cool. The Dusk Phantoms may even believe they've practically exterminated the Chosen. They leave the dead on the field of the dead moon Grethor and depart for Stovokor. They get a nasty shock years later. Perhaps at a second battle of Grethor?
>>
>>53918179
>Distant Thunder and the Dusk Phantoms
When the campaign ends, Distant Thunder leaves the Dusk Phantoms feeling like he's got a strong ally for his legion. Gyahdred's asked him to set up a meeting between him and Elsu. This is going to be fantastic. There's even tactical boons from the whole thing.
With him is a XVth Legion Reductor Battalion to kind of seal the deal.
And then he gets to the homeworld and finds it a ruin.
They end up hooking back up with the Dusk Phantoms before they meet up with Tijo.

(One thing that comes out of this, though is the [COOL NAME HERE] Cohort. Something horrific and airborne. Actually now that I think of it, it's interesting that that's not a bigger feature in 20's cinema. Technical constraints? Anyways, it's a reductor battalion that relies on more mobile weaponry, organized along Soaring Host lines. It's designed to be a framework for military collaboration between the two legions. So it's got Jetbikes out the ass, Hovertanks like the new Repulsor, Javelins, etc etc, integrated with Vulturax and other Stratos Automata and similar mechanicum systems, including some newer air-mobile guns. They'd be crew served weapons like you get on Typhons and Medusae, but instead of being on a slow (albeit heavily armored) chasis, it's on a gun carriage designed to fit into a Thunderhawk or Stormeagle sized craft. They're designed to be more like real world artillery, I guess. So basically super-Rapiers with bigger guns.)
>>
>>53918262
>Reductor Battallions
These are the XVth's take on an Ordo Reductor Covenant or Myrmidax Cult.
They're hybrid Mechanicum-Legion forces under the command of an Astartes Iron Lord?
Unlike generic legion forces or other formations of the XVth, they're pretty much solely dedicated to siege and macro-extinction missions. The idea is that they are a mendicant sangha and move from warzone to warzone aiding others in siege operations and the like.
Anything from a guard regiment having trouble cracking a fortress to another legion dug in against something big and nasty. The leaders are also ambassadors, but given the legion, the results are mixed.
Some say that it's just a way for Gyahdred to help himself to archaeotech from other warzones, but this really is his way of trying to be friendly. The Archaeotech is just a perk.

If anyone wants to write about Dusk Phantoms on other sides of the war, these guys could well end up siding with the legion that they're working with for one reason or another.

These are also one of the two major types of successor chapter equivalents Post-Heresy.

The other is the Dzongkha, which is a watch-fortress.

>Dzongkha
These are basically watch fortresses put up to defend something of interest. Usually that's a forgeworld, but they also defend Hive Worlds and stuff like that. There's also border forts to keep an eye on the boundaries. One is near Talassar, which is how Cato Sicarius begins his life of service and constant fear of being turned into a Nosferati.
So basically a combination of garrison, actual fortress, and Deathwatch fortress.
>>
>>53874593
So, did we ever actually accomplish any of the two actual things this thread set out to do?
>>
>>53874593
So I assume these are like your alternate legions for your shitty fanwank of a shitty pulp novel series? And you think they're all perfectly good replacements? Such iconic names as the 'smoke stalkers', 'golden mountains' and 'gunslingers' replacing Blood Angels, Space Wolves etc.
The only names here that aren't absolutely awful are Forge Lords and Iron Guard and those colour schemes as well as the ones that are just the colour's of canonical chapters are fine but you really have to learn some restraint when it comes to names and colours, it's just fucking silly. Unless it's meant to be a comedy thing. The Gunslingers especially is ridiculous, like is the guy hiding his identity? Keeping dust out of his face? Why not give him a cowboy hat too.

Sort of?
We I'D legions in the initial assault and what was going in for Ullanor. The second wave is a fuzzier and I think it works best if we write it with primarch relations in mind. Ullanor is important because it sets up the dysfunction to come.

>Nikea
I think we know who was there and how they voted. Emperor comes down on psykers and the librarius program is notionally shut down across the legions, but in the Ullanor crusade, everybody is going nuts.
Multiple legions pull out their proscribed weapons and everyone basically assumes law is lifted for revenge. Like if anyone had wanted to, they could have come after Gyahdred for using weapons not sanctioned for use within the Imperium. But it was Ullanor. Anything goes.
Except afterwards... well... yeah.
>>
>>53919495

Also got an idea, really ought to be in the OU, but:
>Skyfall Landing Barge
The system is incredibly simple. Fellblades and the like survive drops from orbit, their hull plating can take it with little ill effect. The problem is stopping.
The Skyfall Landing Barge is fitted to the payload, typically a Fellblade or other similar tank, and dropped from a ship in low orbit. The Skyfall also includes heat shielding for delicate components that comes off on landing.
There's probably augur fouling systems, too, but this is basically just a retrorocket autopilot system for legion tanks too big to be carried by a stormbird.
Hopefully you guys can help me make that a thing.

Gyahdred developed it for his ambushes.

Similarly, I'm thinking he's behind the ultra sexy Corvus Blackstar and its various derived craft, such as the massive Overlord Dropships.

Sketching out those Batallions further
>Dorje Adept Koloth and Reductor Battallion Rgyaschenpo "Golden Sickle"
On long term deployment with the forces of the Iron Bear, this Reductor Battallion focusses on siege warfare.
Assets:
~750 Astartes
~3000 Mechanicum infantry
~1000 Thallax
~30 batteries of artillery
~30 squadrons of assault guns
Including Vindicators and Onagers
~20 Cybernetica Maniples
~100 Siege Transports (Land Raiders, Dune Trains, Spartans)
~10 Superheavy transports (Mastadons etc)
~10 Super Heavy Tanks
2 Ordinatus Minoris Engines

Support vehicles including portable void shield generators

Strike Cruiser and associated landing craft.

That seem about right for a dedicated siege force designed to do specialist work in conjunction with larger forces?

To avoid confusion and the possibility that they were Minoris Engines, I'll come up with something intermediate using a Fellblade or baneblade chassis.
>>53921452

Also for weapons I think he has none. But instead duel wields tomahawks he manifests with his psyker powers. Kinda like Nightwolf from Mortal Kombat?
>>
>>53921549
The point of the Soaring Host is the whole bird motif, so a jump pack is pretty vital to that. Why wouldn't we do both though? Jump packs and jet bikes?
>>
>>53921927
I could go either way, though my preference would be for the tomahawks to be actual physical weapons.

As for other weapons, I'm thinking mainly plasma based stuff. Combine that with a big of Psyker-y goodness and we should be fine.

>I think there's a lot of people who will write him off as a mutant since he's not got that Sanguinius vibe going for him.
>Who else is closes to him and who hates his guts?
Raj doesn't hate anyone except Mot, so his relationship with Elsu would be indifferent at worst. I'm expecting plenty of others to be more cold towards him though; most Primarchs dislike mutants, and we should make sure our guys aren't too reasonable. I'm expecting Zelbezis, Deshain and maybe Valorn to be quite dickish about it.

As for the not!Fabius Bile guy, I think he should be a bit of both. He should start off with noble intentions, trying to find a solution to the mutant problem, but be corrupted by Chaos relatively early on.

Also guys, we need to consider what we do with the Quaestor's Wardens. I had a word with Krees yesterday and he said that he was way too busy to actually contribute in any way. So are we gonna try to replace them, or make them a community legion? I honestly don't think they're that unique or special, but I wanna hear your thoughts.

Alright, so I'm thinking this is what happens with the Forge Lords:
At some point Mot is already disillusioned with the Imperium, possibly after having to schmooze with the Terran nobility and seeing that their culture is disturbingly similar to that of his homeworld (which I'm considering renaming to Zharr-something else), and Marduk sends him and his legion to some chaos relic world, albeit not knowing that the daemon that becomes Hashut is imprisoned there. Mot and his legion free Hashut and decide that helping it achieve (lesser) godhood will increase their own personal power, and turn to chaos.

>>53931991
I have a current placeholder name for my Primarch, as well as a bit of info about the beginnings of the legion (name still to be decided). On a mostly desert planet, where settlements were built around the more mineral and metal rich areas, having control over said settlements was vital. As such, many cavalry groups were formed, those these groups were very under-armored and some had no armor at all, and were mostly horse or camel riders. Most people, including Tyrus, are unhappy with the rule of the current leader of the planet. This prompts Tyrus to form what would eventually become the first chapter of the legion (Insert Name Here).

Don't know, I like it. It's a good combination and well, seems busy but legit at the same time. We are not painting every single part of a different color. And at the time of painting, you can skip the smaller details.

Cool stuff. You know, I don't think we have a knight legion? Well, Silver Blades, but they're drunk. And The Sentinels, but they're Arabian Kniiiights.

They remind me of thr Templars from Secret World, what with that color scheme and a leader named Solomon haha. Welcome aboard.
Some helpful prompts to get you started might be.
1: What does your Primarch look like physically,
2: What does his armour look like / does it have any special properties.
3: What is his signature weapon and what special traits does it have.
Also I made a timeline questionnaire that is in the spreadsheet, filling that out might help you shape yoir legion better to this universe.

>>
>>53921979
I agree with you, but I'm getting hung up on how Elsu would use a jump pack without getting plucked.
Other than that, yeah, Soaring Host definitely should use a lot of jetpacks and a lot of jetbikes.

Dual axes and a jetpack kind of goes without saying. I could also see them using some dudes with talons strapped to their feet like Night Lords Raptors.

Tactically, I'm picturing a mix of White Scars and Raven Guard.

>>53923715
Sound about right to you?

>Special Unit One
Jetbike Lancers.

Thinking >>53935395
in the Angels of Avalon uses something similar. The big difference is that the Angels of Avalons are a lot more heavily armored. Elsu's lancers go faster and are more agile.

>Special Unit Two
Those jump pack bird men of doom. As the heresy goes on, I'm thinking they become the first warp talons and chaos raptors. They probably have cool feathered decorations on their armor.

>Special Unit Three
Desert riflemen. Your stereotypical Navajo trackers from bad westerns.

>Other cool stuff
Make use of small interceptors more often than other legions, Stormhawks, Stormtalons, Xiphons, etc.

Perhaps a tendency to drop marines with grav chutes? Like dropping a tac squad? (For those rare occasions you're not just using an assault squad.)

>>53939973
FUCK YEAH
>>
>>53939820
Oh yeah? Mind giving me a little more detail to work with?
>>
>>53940012
>FUCK YEAH
The world trembles as knights fall, blood and oil fly as great weapons of gargantuan size tear steel and flesh. Two may fall, but only one may stand, for in this battle for the honor of the knights there is no surrender, there is no retreat; there is only death or triumph!
>>
>>53940096
Does anyone have a knight titan template so I can try to shoop together colors for the Knights of Zharr?
>>
>>53940283
I can't honestly say I've ever even seen one.
>>
>>53940012
I'm wondering if the Primarch himself would even need a jetpack? Surely he can juat use his wings while his sons use jetpacks in an attempt to mimic him?
Or at best he'd use a thruster to give him momentum but his natural wings do most of the real work.
Pretty sure thats how Sanga worked?
>>
>>53940347
Oh? He has wings? >_<
>>
So, just to summarize what the plan is now (talked to slav annon an flushed it out) this is the current outline for Solomon:

>Pod crashes on the outskirts of Avalon, closer to the shrublands and away from the mineral rich deserts.

>Raised hearing about but not really subjected beneath the tyrannical rule of the iron Barrons (perhaps mordred)

>Eventually a small raid happens and wooden and bronze weapons do little to stop iron and steel.

>They are stopped by a powerful sorcerer (who will be our Merlin. I'm not sure if I want them to be An eldar warlock to justify the ability of their powers and to closer match the myths) who sees that Solomon is different than his kin and offers to train him in the ways of a warrior and sorcerer.

>Trained by our Merlin, it becomes clear that he's not as talented in the mystic arts as he is the martial ones and is presented a 'magic' sword by Merlin (later revealed to be one of the crone swords...maybe)
>>
>>53940372
According to his document he does.
>>
>>53940530
>The Barron's attack again but this time Solomon is able to beat them, and equips the bravest and most loyal men of the village to ride out with him to end their tyranny. Twelve men agree and as they travel Solomon trains them as 'Merlin' did and each shows great ability in all sorts of fields of skill.
>As they ride they begin to amass a peasant army/rebellion and slowly whittle down the barons strongholds. However in a climactic battle between Solomon and the Barron King (Mordred, a champion of Khorne) his forces are trapped, his most loyal Templars doing their best to lead their men but they were losing ground. Merlin himself for all his mystical power is slain and all hope seems lost.
>In a silent prayer Solomon raises his sword in a feeble attempt to defend himself, but with the sound of thunder and screaming comes the Astartes, Imperial Knight detachments and the Emperor himself.

Who did you make anon?
>>
The basics I have for the skyfall barge currently are this:
>A.) it's practical nature is because it's Gyahdred, naturally it's a "common sense" solution....if making the unholy lovechild of a guided missile, torpedo and landing craft was common sense

>B.) the basic platform is a shell that is formed around said payload (one superheavy tank or 2 smaller vehicles) and (in some cases) can be loaded into the macro cannon of a ship and then fired. Following basic bolter theory this is less to get it to its destination, and more to get it away from the ship and give it some speed

C.) from here a thruster payload helps to guide the payload autonomously (either homing to a beacon or pre-installed coordinates) into the atmosphere, the shallow cone at the front helping to reduce drag and friction as it travels. In addition to this, small blisters on the outside will begin to pop, releasing chaff and other debris to scramble radar.

>D.) once in atmosphere a bank of retro thrusters along the "bottom", front and sides of the barge fire off to slow and course correct.

>E.) with the thick plating and construction, the container will skid to a halt, before a charge within the cone detonates; spraying the area ahead of the barge in a hail of shrapnel, micro munitions and smoke. Now that the payload has landed it's simply a matter of driving the tank out onto the field

Unless your Primarch was Yochin you've most likely been scrapped. Lol.
If you are Yochin we made you super important.

Sorry Pillar-Anon. Without someone to write, it kind of went nowhere.
>>
>>53941621
Yeah, the chart in the OP image is hilariously out of date. A bunch of legions no longer exist, and others have had their color schemes changed.

>Elvar

Kadir's system has many planets, only two of them habitable: Kadir, and Elvar.

The two planets are so close to each other that, at first, Kadirian people thought that Elvar was, in fact, a third satelite of Kadir. But that satelite was following it's own orbit, around the system's star. When the Golden Age of Development started and the first message was sent outside Kadir, Elvar received it and answered. Thus, started the ordinary communication between the two planets, quicky finding out that they had a lot of simmilarities between them.

When the Emperor reached Kadir, brought a lot of starships with him, so Linares took one, and the most important people in Kadir, and departed to Elvar. There, he met his neighbours, and a nice and long friendship between the planets started.

Linares returned to Kadir with some of the most important people in Elvar, and showed them the planet. The people was so happy, that Linares started to be known as the Moonbringer, because he reunited the two planets, bringing happiness to both parts.
>>
>>53943332
It is said that Elvar is the intelligent brother of Kadir. The planet left the feudal system long time ago, and now, a central government controls the planet. The people is educated, well-prepared and phylosophical. The planet hasn't been at constant war, neither, but has known some chaos incursions, both from inside and outside. Elvar has more natural psykers than Kadir, and is much more well versed in Warp topics than Kadir. Their psykers usually experimented, and created daemonic incursions and started cults, which became a problem. In a series of wars and engagements, the cults were erradicated, and now, Elvar is free from the Chaos taint.

The philosophical nature of it's people means that they aren't very skilled in martial arts. Even the best warriors of Elvar aren't a true match to the Kadirian soldiers, so their defense relies on the Silver Blades Legion, which has a small detachment of Legionnaires to defend Elvar and teach Elvarians how to fight properly.

Most, if not all, of Linares' knowledge about the warp comes from the Elvarian psykers, who taught him it's dangers, and how useful it is if used correctly. This way, he developed a positive opinion of the warp, and, albeit incapable of learning it's ways, encouraged psykers to learn them.
