Thinking about it, Soul Calibur seems pretty well set up to be an RPG setting. A cast of colourful characters with different weapons and fighting styles, grouping up as they venture through the world with their own agendas, all revolving around a particular magical mcguffin.

>>
>>56624043
She can totally join if she stops holding her swords like a fucking retard. Actually, just replace them entirely. She's ruined those weapons.
>>
>>56628723
The problem is only the edge that faces towards her arms. They're supposed to be tonfa (which are legit and effective weapons) except more dangerous because edgy and the artist fucked up big time. The side that faces her arms should be round, an outward edge and pointy end is fine, those hooks can be used to trap an opponents sword and keep it away from yourself while you bash their face in. The handles could be set a bit further towards the blade to allow for wielding them more like shortswords if you want to switch styles, but that's picking nits.

The concept of those weapons is solid, but that one glaring problem ruins them completely. Solve that problem, and they're firmly in "hey that's cool"-territory.

I was such a scrub I didn't even need that. My friend would just spam the rush move where she vaults over you and hits you in the back. Just do that, wait for me to start getting up, rinse, repeat.

When I started spamming Astaroth's spin move in retaliation, we called a truce and had some SALT discussions. Those two moves, Raphael's three-stabs-to-the-forehead spam, and Maxi's "titty drum" apologies, we were around 11 at the time all ended up on the list. I think one of Kilik's moves got banned too.
>>
>>56629649
probably that dumbass endless tornado spin that's only actually used in katas because you can't carry momentum into that as an actual attack.
>>
>>56628969
>The problem is only the edge that faces towards her arms.
Neither edge faces her arms, anon. At least not in that image. Her arms are against one of the flat sides of the weapons, respectively.
>>
>>56624043
Why do you keep making threads with Talim and the word "Wind"?
>>
>>56630037
I think that's mostly due to the angles being all over the place. The one in her left hand (to our right) manages to have the blade mostly flat against her arm, while the handle is at a 45° angle to that. It also manages to appear to be either half a meter and a meter long at the same time, or be flat against her arm and at at least a 40° angle to it at the same time. And god knows where exactly that hook is pointing.
The one in her right hand (to our left) has one edge pointing away from her arm, the other being flat against the inside of her arm (in a great position for her to give herself some nasty abdominal cuts btw) which means they should be at an angle to each other, but they still look like they're parallell. And she's about to stab herself in the thigh or butt with that hook.

A blade flat against the arm wouldn't make any sense at all since the only way to cut someone with it would be by backhanding them with your entire lower arm. If the edge (on weapons of the type seen in OP) doesn't face away from your arm at 180° you have no way of putting your weight behind it. You're already trading momentum for defense, putting edges at odd angles to the way you'd move in a fight means you will at most manage to give your opponent some minor cuts if they get within range.
>>
>>56624391

She has a very good story reason to be celibate, and it's assumed her femdom tendencies are her working out her frustrations.

As for her battle outfit, it's implied that the leather is what she wears underneath normal clothes, and when it's time to fight, she dramatically rips her dress off to reveal the leather underneath. It's essentially her "work" outfit.

Sophie's soul was lost in Astral Chaos, and Cassandra went after her to find her sister. The original version of the story was that to save Pryyha's life, Sophitia needed to extract the piece of Soul Edge lodged in her body from when she and Taki destroyed it way back in Soul Blade, knowing that romiving that particular shard would kill her (it's the shard that exposed Pyrrha to the power of Soul Edge while she was in the womb). She knowingly did so, dying in the process but ensuring her daughter's life.

In either case, Cassandra doesn't take no for an answer, so she's stuck between dimensions trying to find her sister's soul.

Rough timeline of events.
>Soul Edge/Blade
Cervantes owned Soul Edge for the past 25 years, taking souls quietly in the port of Valencia. Before he could make a power play, Taki and Sophitia tag-team him, shattering half of Soul Edge. Before the sword ripped itself apart, Siegfried claimed it, releasing the Evil Seed in the process.

>SoulCalibur 1
Siegfried is now the Azure Knight, Nightmare. He and his followers carve a bloody path of terror across Europe to reap souls and strengthen Soul Edge. He is confronted and beaten by the adventuring trio of Kilik, Xianghua and Maxi. Xianghua's blade, without its owner's prior knowledge, reveals itself as the real Soul Calibur, and they beat Inferno.

>SoulCalibur 2
Soul Edge, Soul Calibur and Nightmare are sucked through a vortex at the end of SC1, shattering Soul Edge into fragments. Siegfried attempts to atone for his sins, but the pull of Soul Edge is too strong, and he reemerges as Nightmare four years later. It ultimately ends with Raphael defeating Soul Edge under his own effort.

>SoulCalibur 3
Stuff happens. Siegfried claims Soul Calibur, Soul Edge possesses a suit of armor as an act of desperation while it finds a new host, and Tira emerges and begins her plots to empower Soul Edge. Some nigga also gets involved.

>SoulCalibur 4
More stuff happens. Tira essentially blackmails a chunk of the cast (including Sophitia) to protect Soul Edge from those who would destroy it. The dude who made the two swords also gets involved somehow. Siegfried beats Nightmare.

>SoulCalibur 5
17 year time skip. There's a new Nightmare named Graf Dumas, though no one knows it at first. Short version: Sophitia's son and daughter, Patroklos and Pyrrha, are the new owners of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, respectively, but they come to unite as siblings (despite Tira's machinations and corruption of Pyrrha) and walk off into the sunset.

It's worth noting that SoulCalibur 4 and 5 are when it's revealed that Soul Calibur is almost as big a cunt as Soul Edge. Soul Calibur's only directive is "stop Soul Edge," and it will use any means necessary to achieve this, even if this includes encasing all life in crystal to starve Soul Edge of souls or encase its owner in crystal if it thinks you're being a little bitch and can't get the job done.

Of course, Soul Calibur and Soul Edge are weapons shrouded in rumor and legend to the average layperson, so it's not guaranteed everyone would know this.

Don't forget that there's more going on in the setting than just Edge/Calibur. There's the various cults that are about, most famously the Fygul Cestemus cult led by Kunpaetku, the cult behind Astaroth, the Lizardmen (and Aeon Calcos), and Ashlotte. There's also the entirety of the Japan-China-Korea region, including Chinese politics and the Fu-Ma ninja clan that Taki and Natsu are a part of.
>>

The perfect soul edge can't happen, soul edge's goal is to split, then copulate with itself to create baby soul edges.

>>

yea but that doesn't stop plenty of people from trying to do crazy things with it. Besides. If Algol can create it as a single entity then perhaps someone crazy enough (perhaps a witness to the reality tear) could make an attempt to recreate soul edge.

Half the idea behind Edge and Calibur is that they are mired in rumors and legends. No one knows the full extent about them except a select few (read: most of the core cast by this point), so people will be chasing hearsay, but they will definitely be interested in it. Straight from the wiki:
>[Soul Edge] has been given many names throughout the story, such as "The Sword of Salvation", "The Sword of Heroes", and "The Ultimate Sword" among others.
Anyone can come up with their own reason for hunting "the ultimate weapon." For example, in Soul Calibur 1, Xianghua was under orders by the Ming dynasty Emperor of China to find the "Hero's Sword."

That said, to expand on >>56654371, Edge and Calibur are not the only legendary armaments out there, even if they aren't as famous. One big example is Kilik's Kali-Yuga; another is Taki's twin kodachi, Rekki-Maru and Mekki-Maru, the latter of which she forged with a piece of Soul Edge.
>>
>>56654440
yea was just reading up on the wiki and soul edge was just a simple two handed blade that killed so many people that it developed an evil conscious. so it's honestly not a far stretch for someone to do the super crazy in depth research, track down the sword, become possessed, or perhaps dominate the weapon with intent to gather not only the shards of soul edge, but soul calibur as well and then reforge it into the perfect weapon it once was. plus im always really happy to introduce npcs early on that lead the party the entire time only to betray them in the end
>>
>>56654546
Yea was going to look into what other legendary weapons there were as well. I mean each character has a legendary weapon in their own right so it shouldn't be to hard to figure them out.
>>
>>56654569
In SC2 they each got like 10 legendary weapons, each with different powers and a backstory. I don't remember their alternate weapons getting stories in the other games but I could be wrong.
>>
>>56654758
Not all of them were legendary, many were just "this was a good sword, but then I removed the cross-guard to make it even better! *attack++, defense-*
>>
>>56654758
yea. I remember that, but as far as the story seems to go. Rekki+Mekki Maru, as well as the treasured items from Kilik's temple seem to be the major ones besides SC+SE themselves.

>Kali-Yuga: Staff that could absorb any energy, good or evil; has absorbed lots of evil since the Evil Seed launched, and implied that if anyone other than Kilik was to wield it, it would turn into another Soul Edge-type weapon
>Dvapara-Yuga: Sacred mirror that can purify anything (person or thing) corrupted by evil; pieces are called Holy Stones; can be worn as a pendant to achieve the same effect
>Krita-Yuga: Xianghua's prized weapon in SC1, her mother's keepsake, revealed to be the real Soul Calibur; essentially the not-Kusanagi

A malfested Japanese kunoichi assassin, wielding dual sais and a body that she feels was empowered by the corruption. With searing orange eyes like a natural predator, her sultriness belies her viciousness; she attacks without mercy and prefers to ambush her prey. To her, death is her art, and ecstasy is her reason for living.
That said, all this talk of heroes and legends criss-crossing the world has got her blood boiling. The last man she killed - a real wretch - was carrying some dark, crackling shard of metal, and holding onto it made her feel more alive than ever before. She's become obsessed and intends to find more of them to find out what's got her feeling this way.

Rahem ibn Ameen al-Farsi (Rahem the Persian, son of Ameen) is a Persian outrider and pathfinder who travels the deserts of the Middle East. He's had a few bad run-ins with the Fygul Cestemus cult, but the lizard men that would attack him are no match for his saber. Disgusted by what he sees, he travels north into greater Eurasia to get some answers on who these bastards are and what they want with him. The swarthy Muslim is slow to trust and cautious of all he meets, as the desert has taught him to always be wary of things hidden beneath the sands, but if they can prove their cause is just and righteous, then they will earn both his loyalty and Allah's blessings.

Jhanvi is a seer and mystic from India who has always been known for her sight beyond sight. Blessings from the gods have granted her the ability to see visions and fortunes, as well as wield their power with magical might. Like many, she was touched by the Evil Seed and is technically malfested, but she is able to hold the corruption at bay for now. Turning to her gifts to see if there is a cure, troubling images tell her of battles to come and threats upon her life, but they also tell her of the Dvapara-Yuga - or at least pieces of it - that can purge evil. Armed with her magic and her enchanted chakrams, she sets out to find one of these shards so as to cure herself and others tainted by this evil.
Jhanvi is aloof, well-spoken and always thoughtful, but she has an irritating habit of speaking cryptically. Questioning her faith and sense of righteousness offends her, but she is otherwise always cool and collected. When left idle long enough, she begins dancing on the spot.

Thomas Wallace is a Celtic highlander who fancies himself as the reincarnation of the legendary Irish hero Cú Chulainn. Indeed, he possesses skills with a spear and a sword, but he also demonstrates freakish strength, entering a rage as he hurls boulders and horses and other objects a normal person has no business hurling. Where his might comes from is unknown, but what is certain is that he's convinced he's the strongest man in the world. Stories have filtered to him of the infamous Azure Knight terrorizing Europe as well as some incredibly powerful swordsman coming out of the Far East, and his soul won't be at peace until he can square off against both of them and prove who really is the mightiest of legends. Thomas has a high opinion of himself and his skills, utterly assured of his victory every time he squares up.

Alessandro Russo is an Italian templar, claiming to be in service of the Catholic Church. He claims he answers directly to the Pope - an embellishment, to be sure - and by extension, he answers only to God. He claims that a vision of St. George appeared to him and said that the blight of malfestation that plagues the world must be cleansed, and that he must lead the charge to scrub out this pestilence. Whatever the case, Alessandro and his small contingent of soldiers are travelling Eurasia on a self-professed "crusade" against malfestation (a crusade the Church, it must be stated, did not sanction or is not otherwise aware of). His position is clear: there is zero tolerance for the Malfested, and all must be put to the sword. In his words, the only deliverance from malfestation is into the arms of God. While he does have several victories against Malfested monsters under his belt, his hands are also drenched in the blood of innocents, whether they were malfested or not. He has grown obsessed and has shown more willingness to perform heinous acts if it means the death of more Malfested. His single-mindedness has been exploited by others, and anything he cannot immediately explain is looked upon with great suspicion.

But only those two impact the setting in a truly meaningful way. I distinctly remember that one of the characters said that magic and the gods were dying out as time went on but Soul Edge's Evil Seed dealie ended up causing a massive resurgence in magic in the world.
>>
>>56683112
I'm not aware of who said that line and when. I do know that before the Evil Seed was released, there was still an amont of mysticism to the "real world" portrayed in the Soul series. In the opening reel for Soul Blade, we see Taki hunting a demon, and we see Sophitia approached by an image of Hephaestus to presumably give her her holy quest. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if releasing the Evil Seed kicked off a new age of magic and mystery in the world. As well, it's been theorized in the past couple threads on the Soul series that every time Soul Calibur and Soul Edge butt heads, the world gets more magical and more weird. I can't say how true that is, but you can definitely say that things start to get more fantastic with every sequel.
>>
>>56683172
Yeah exactly. Magic prior to the Seedening was a thing that happened but it seemed it was relegated to secret cabals that passed down the secret of magic for generations and the like. And then Soul Edge edges its soul all over the world's buttcheeks and now all of a sudden we got flying lizard men! We got rifts in time and space summoning all sortsa crazy characters that don't exist in the world! We got malfestion running rampant (probably)! We got goth loli golems, resurrected forge godkings, psionics and fucking STANDS!

Magic basically goes from No to WOAH in a fucking year, man.

I used Cervantes as a Rogue Trader with Ivy as his Slaaneshi sorceress daughter, Astaroth as a Dark Mechanicus failed attempt at bootlegging a Space Marine, and Necrid as a Daemon World xenoform mutant that serves the Trader to unknown ends. Best campaign villain for Dark Heresy ever. It was a fun in-joke to have Ivy-alike's tits bigger every time the party encountered her.

Imagine the story, though.
The Renaissance was where NEETs first really started to pop up among artists, nobles and merchants, as technological advances and artistic innovation made it tempting to coop up in your room as a young noble.
A young artist becomes obsessed with Soul Edge and most importantly [insert fighter waifu here] after witnessing a public confrontation between them and [insert villain of game here].
When the servants of Soul Edge are on the edge of defeat, a fragment of it is "coincidentally" delivered to him, and it warps his previously frail body into [insert clone of fighter waifu or similar-looking female character here], finally fulfilling his greener-on-the-other-side dreams about being a swashbuckling hero who has nothing to fear and is desirable in any way.
Of course, he's seen as cursed by his family and won't provide an heir, so he's run out of his home with the clothes on his back and the Soul Edge fragment - and suddenly it doesn't seem as cool when you have a bunch of much more experienced heroes on your back, a personal backstory you can't explain without painting "black magic" on your forehead, no one to run to and the sex appeal/thrills are rapidly getting old.
Given, this would work better in Shadowrun, but no matter what game you play, these things are considered magical realm.

I think he's mad that they revealed she's not a native Japanese. Setsuka's story arc is pretty straightforward.
>Shunned for her features in Japan
>Taken in by a nice man and named Setsuka
>Taught his style of iaido
>Teacher/lover dies in a duel; uses dying breath to identify his killer at Mitsurugi
>She burns for revenge, despite being warned against it, and goes to hunt down Mitsurugi despite his reputation
>Gets her fight with Mitsurugi
>Finally realizes how pointless and empty revenge is
In Soul Calibur 5, she changed her name to Neve and moved to Istanbul to teach self-defense to orphans. This is when Patroklos learned Setsuka's style from her and would ultimately ignore her warnings against vengeance.

Aeon is such an under appreciated character.

Encounter impressive tactical resistance and combat techniques on par with intelligent military leaders.

Each lizardman is a capable warrior on their own, but together they pose a vastly considerable threat.

It's not guaranteed that Aeon kept his keen Spartan tactics. It still doesn't change that a pack of lizardmen might be an issue. I distinctly remember one of the SoulCalibur 1 missions was your character stuck on a very narrow bridge and attacked by lizardmen from both sides. They were small fries, though, and could go down in a single hit, but it didn't change that you had no 8-way run or jump.

We know Tira is malfested, one of the side effects being she can no longer age. We know she is the ringleader (kek) of several machinations surrounding Soul Edge, including kidnapping and mentally corrupting Sophitia's daughter Pyrrha. We know she's manic-depressive and prone to sudden and violent mood swings - swings that can be brought about via self-harm. We know she was basically trained since birth as an assassin and human weapon, and that she "graduated" by - big surprise - killing her teacher. We basically know that the only thing in the world she seems to truly identify with is Soul Edge itself: all they know is how to kill and how to cause chaos, and she doesn't know how to bond with people in any meaningful way that doesn't involve corruption or murder. We know she's trained in an exotic weapon and has notable skill in acrobatics.

Am I missing anything?

If my memory serves, it's a little unclear whether Soul Edge actually acknowledges her services and shares power with her, or just doesn't register her existence.
In any event, she gives off serious Gollum/Smeagol vibes.
>>
>>56703320
The thing about statting Soul Calibur characters is that they'll use different systems because the setting can be a kitchen sink.
Someone like Mitsurugi would use Legend of the Five Rings, Yoshimitsu Exalted, Sophitia, Patroklos and related would use Scion, and Tira would run on some World of Darkness splat just like Voldo, Astaroth and God knows who else.
You could stat her as a Slasher in Hunter: the Vigil, but I never really got into the nWoD.

>Given, this would work better in Shadowrun
This is the most baffling part of your post; why the fuck would you need Shadowrun for a character in the Renaissance just because he gets magically genderswapped? The whole concept is pretty setting agnostic, but any system designed to be present or future I would think would be right out.
>>
>>56705624
I meant that the basic concept would be more fitting, not the setting elements.
>>
>>56704376
Blade of the Iron Throne could work for this i think. since it has the ability to alter how much damage a person can take in combat to be either more lethal or more cinematic.

Tira does come across as Soul Edge's Gollum, except she is not hyper-possessive of the weapon but rather intimately concerned for its future. Soul Edge needs a host body to be most effective, and Tira popped up in SoulCalibur 3, when it didn't have a body and was forced to animate a suit of armor to get around as a last-ditch maneuver. To ensure Soul Edge's future and well-being, Tira dedicated herself to finding the perfect host that may or may not have included herself. Given the victim's unique exposure to Soul Edge's energies, Tira settled on Pyrrha. You see it in her ending in SC3, part of SC4 and the entirety of SC5's story mode how she personally groomed Pyrrha to be Soul Edge's new host. You could feel her elation when she finally pulled it off and saw her plan come to fruition.

It's not clear if Soul Edge loves Tira (it has no problem possessing her when offered no other options), but Tira definitely loves Soul Edge, and that's all that matters.

All this talk in the thread about the Fygul Cestemus and Tira, and there's fortuately a page relevant to both (specifically about the European assassin order Tira was part of before it fell apart thanks to the Evil Seed).

>>56704332
>If my memory serves, it's a little unclear whether Soul Edge actually acknowledges her services and shares power with her, or just doesn't register her existence.
According to the wiki, Soul Edge did acknowledge her. In SC3, she tracked down sentient-armor Nightmare and pledged undying allegience to it. It gave her the jobs of destroying Soul Calibur and finding a proper host.
>In order to fulfill these objectives, Tira was granted the protection of Nightmare's raven sentries, the Watchers.
>>
>>56707467
It must be noted that in Soul Calibur V, Tira doesn't like the current Nightmare, Graf Dumas, because he plots from shadows and moves quietly as opposed to being loud and chaotic like the old Nightmares. She rejects Graf Dumas Nightmare and resolves to make her own, better host for Soul Edge. This proves that Tira's loyalty is not to Nightmare but to Soul Edge itself.

The Greeks traditionally associated blond hair with the gods, or being blessed by them.

Considering Sophitia is literally a holy warrior charged by the gods to fight for them, it works.

God, singular. Only Hephaestus expressed explicit interest in destroying Soul Edge, for two reasons.
>Hephaestus feels that Soul Edge, a weapon made by man, is so powerful that if all of the shards were allowed to assemble, the resulting sword could stain his reputation as the greatest blacksmith in the universe.
>Hephaestus' greatest fear is that Soul Edge could fall into the hands of his older brother, Ares, the God of War.
He's got a point on that second point, though. If Ares ever got his hands on Soul Edge, everyone is fucked, gods and mortals alike.

Also, as of SoulCalibur 5, Hephaestus sent out a new batch of oracles with the same mission to destroy Soul Edge, but also - as a side objective - to destroy Aeon Calcos the Lizardman, "the beast who devours people."
