JTTRPG Discord - Look for games in "On-Topic", Not "General"
https://discord.gg/9RUTurB

Kamigakari is a JTTRPG Focused on episodic storytelling, with simple but tight mechanics.

Its design goal is to start players spread out, getting involved with the episodes peculiarities, and eventually coming together to fight a big bad, A la Power rangers, Kamen rider, Magical girl shows, and other such shows in that vein.

TL;DR, Its a Monster of the Week Format game with an emphasis in the fluff on high power shenanigans of just about every type.
Remember boys and girls, Japanese schedules suck, so JTTRPGS are optimized toward quick and easy sessions.
That said, they can be adapted for longer ones.

Just for the record, i'm still taking potential submissions for art we can use for the OP. It can't just be random images, we have an image to maintain and all that jazz. The one i used here is one of a few i've gotten that are up to snuff, but i'm always looking for more.
>>
look at all those digits in the last thread...
>>
>>56774869
Well, kansai anon, you're up. Screencap anon is headin to bed, so its up to you to keep things lively.
>>
>>56775013
I'll start writing up on wordpad
>>
>>56775018
Well, i didn't necessarily mean with a story. Even just being here to talk is enough. Still, people did want more storytime, and ruth anon is supposed to give his story "Next thread".

Either way, we'll see how this goes. I'm always a bit apprehensive about makin threads back to back like this, but if there's demand, who am i to judge?
>>
how would you stat up the Noisy Cricket in this game?
>>
>>56775032
Oh well I guess I can pretty much answer any questions and give pointers if anyone asks, i've been running the game for a long enough time that I think I have a handle on things.
>>
>>56775039
one good fantasy gun deserves another.
>>
>>56775046

Does Target: Area hit allies as well as enemies?
>>
>>56775046
The funnier thing is, being the guy who's made threads, created a homebrew guide, and screencapped all this stuff, i've only ever played 2 sessions myself.

>>56775058
Only if you want them too.
>>
>>56775046
mechanically what are the best ways to go about being your party's big damage dealer if you don't want to be a melee specialist?
>>
>>56775058
Nope. The way it works when you target area is that you imagine it's an attack within an engagement that you target freely so you can pick and choose. If your attack does not have a number of targets you treat it as #1.

Imagine it as the same thing as attacking enemies in an an engagement in melee, except you're at range instead.

Legion is probably your best bet if you don't want to use magic. Elder mage if you do.

If you plan to use a gun, make sure to get the accessory that allows you to add your PD to its damage. Tactical holster or something.

>>56775108
Nah, my DM is a bag of dicks that ditched the game due to drama in another group. The two were intertwined, so it was more or less understandable, but i'm still salty about it.
>>
What would be recommended number of players? I'm trying to aim for at least 3, keep the group small.
>>
>>56775094
As in you want to do big damage but don't want to be up close and personal. Hmm well you might be best served by combining Legion A with a primarily ranged based class or using range based weapons

Magic wise probably Elder Mage but if your weapon changes the range of attack you could probably mix and match with things like Dark Hunter.
>>
>>56775118
There was a game opening in the last thread if you're interested, although it might have filled up by now
>>
>>56775139
It did, and my schedule sucks to bad right now to actively take part in games.

That was months ago anyways, so don't worry bout it. Its given me plenty of time to get a good grasp on the rules and idea's of the game, and helping others is good enough for me, for the moment.

Alrighty, here goes my first attempt at storytime. I guess there's technically spoilers for the real isekai storytime that'll eventually arrive at this episode, if anyone cares about stuff like that? Either way, into the story.

So as quick context, there's only supposed to be one Guardian in the world at the time, or at least there's only been one at a time before. This time however, five stepped through the portal at once, which has Haxia (fantasy world) divided. Some think it means that there's a greater evil in the world that requires more than one Guardian to stop it, some think it's a coincidence, but the common theory is that only one of the 'Guardians' is the real one and the rest are eventually going to turn villain. Because nobody knows which is which, the king decided to treat the entire party equally with hopes that the 'true' hero would be able to overcome the impostors when the time came. A third party kingdom is having none of that, however, and has made the executive decision this episode that playing bizarro-russian-roulette where only one of the cylinders is empty is statistically stupid, so they're going to kill all five for the greater good.

So while the king of the hub city is at the gates trying to convince the army's commander to leave, the party is being constantly ambushed by demoneye soldiers (pic related). The demoneyes play smart, making sure not to bunch together for Ryuko's or Hayate's area attacks and targeting Su the healer as much as they can. It's clear that they know the party's fighting style and they're out for blood, and worryingly enough Ryuko is too-- she legit kills a few of them with her punch-blasts instead of knocking them out. Ultimately the fight starts to wear down on the party as the soldiers just keep coming, and it seems pretty clear that they're getting overwhelmed.

And then, poof, smoke bombs. Nobody knows quite what's going on, though Su recognizes that these are smoke bombs used by the town's own militia. We're dragged aside in the confusion by a darkstalker by the name of Schlange (pic related), who we had met in passing once before. She begs for the party to follow, but Ryuko is still out for blood and wants to keep fighting the people that hurt her friends. Su urges her to retreat, wanting as little bloodshed as possible and to avoid "another stain on Ryuko's soul" as she puts it, noting that the soldiers aren't harming the populace, only the party. Rei is nearly comatose from damage, and is in no place to object. Ruth has no objections to tactical cowardice.

Out of the smoke Schlange leads the party through back alleyways, evidently not being the one using the smoke bombs themselves as more of them keep getting thrown from the rooftops whenever more enemy soldiers show up. Eventually she leads the party to a secluded part of town, specifically to a busted-up looking shack in one of the poorer districts.

>>56775398
The army was actually supposed to be outside of the city until negotiations were completed, so the fact that a bunch of the Korefuta snuck inside and ambushed us anyway was a big no-no. The king wasn't aware of it at the time, but I'm pretty sure some political bridges were burned there.

>>56775412
The original fight broke out on one of the streets leading towards the king's castle, where the portal home was located. Our plan was to sneak back to the real world and wait out the negotiations, but since the portal's location is supposed to be a dangerous secret we weren't able to run home while there was a strike team on our tails.

The party cautiously follows inside, seeing the inside stuffed with unfamiliar faces, notably all darkstalkers. Children of all shapes sit at rounded tables, either scribbling on paper or listening to a large blue oni-looking woman read stories. Ryuko is immediately distrustful at first, mostly riding on the same adrenaline/rage from the earlier battle. Rei is very weirded out by the crowd of monsters, while Su and Ruth find the kids adorable. Hayate is chill as always.

The troll-looking darkstalker (further to the left in pic related) saunters over and notes remarks that Schlange "didn't say she'd be bringing over such handsome company," giving Rei in particular a wink and likely scarring the boy for life judging by his reaction. Schlange apologizes as she had nowhere else she knew where to go, but the troll hushes her apology and says that her roof is always open. It has a serious leaking problem.

The troll introduces herself as Sorge, District Mistress in charge of overseeing houses like these, and the rest of the darkstalkers in the room look at the Guardians in stunned silence as they all realize who just walked in. Sorge says that they would be honored to have a Guardian around and that the party is welcome to stay as long as they like. Wanting to be as far away as possible from weirdo monsters, Rei slumps against a far corner of the room to rest his injuries, while Ryuko and Hayate largely do the same as everyone's still heavily injured from the last fight.

Before anything else happens, there's an ominous knock on the door. Whole party jumps into a fighting pose until it opens, revealing another darkstalker with the head of a human and the body of some sort of bird. Schlange immediately blurts out "Bote!" before recoiling after the outburst. He walks in and introduces himself formally to the Guardians, who thank him for assumedly being their savior. He points to Schlange as the one who saved us, claiming that all he did was throw the smoke bombs like she asked him to. Schlange remarks meekly that she was just doing what her master said, though it's pretty obvious that's a lie. The two banter for a bit about who really deserves the credit, and there's some obvious romantic tension going on.

While they bicker in the background, the party asks some questions about how the slave trade works. Sorge explains that places like these are meant for rearing all the darkstalker children until they're old enough to buy, and that it's her job to oversee that. Su has to mentally restrain herself from asking what happened to all of their parents, fearing a tragic answer. Ruth blurts out the question unintentionally anyway and immediately apologizes over the mental link. Schlange says that they're just working; it's not like she'd be able to take care of a kid and work for the local bar at the same time. Not that she's thinking of having kids in the first place. Sorge interjects, saying she'd make an excellent mother, but Schlange just waves the comment away and says that most darkstalkers have no idea who their parents are anyway.

>>56776227
Double-A as in two A-type styles? I don't know why you'd do that if you're trying to play a tank. As for protecting your allies, Dragon Carrier B lets you intercept some attacks with <<Guard>>, and otherwise you just want to engage enemies first so they have to focus on you. Remember you can forcibly stop an enemy's movement if they pass through a square next to you, although it won't stop teleports.

Ryuko pipes up, asking curtly why darkstalkers don't even get to know their own parents. Su tries to calm her down over the mental link, but Ryuko is pretty angry about this fact. Sorge explains "dear, you can't have proper families when you're both owned and can have children that breath something different than you," somewhat implying that darkstalker reproduction is a sort of lottery? She gestures to a shy girl with snakes for hair in the corner, saying "little Furcht over there accidentally petrified her mother at birth, poor thing." She explains that Furcht had to be raised by Rau, the house's gargoyle cook. Can't turn stone to stone, after all. Ruth makes everyone cringe as the mental link floods with loud blubbering and nonsensical 'I want to protect all of them' rambling, though she wears the same vaguely angry expression as always.

Sorge invites the party to stay as long as they need to as the kiddies would probably love to meet them, and most of the party discusses ways to stealthily get back home without the Korefuta finding them. Ruth has trouble concentrating on the discussion, to Su's amusement.

I'll stop there and catch some sleep, continuing tomorrow. The next part actually deals with getting to know the various kids, which was fun to do. I hope I'm retelling this well enough for you guys.

>>56776365
I'm running Legacy User B so Regalia of Protection does the same as Guard but without jumping in front of my ally (which is better and worse).

What I meant is that there was talk last thread and in the discord of my game that playing defensively is pointless because hyper offense is king in Kamigakari for the reasons I mentioned in my last post, and because any enemy that isn't mindless is encouraged by GMs to specifically avoid getting close to the tank, not giving me any chance of doing what I'm supposed to do.

Also because bosses can and will actually easily outdamage any sort of protection I can try, so the only real way to play is to play rocket tag. In the combat test my group did, the GM threw out a boss that had two attack timings and oneshot everyone but me (unless it got a max damage rolls, in which case it actually oneshot me).

Here we go, some more storytime for you guys

We return to another day in Nanto high. if our characters were not prospective Godhunters they would be spending their days studying for university enterance exams but their calling is a bit higher than that, regardless it's a peaceful day.
Ito Daiichi is standing by the lockers which might as well be his proving grounds with his good friend "B". The Ito gang was ACTUALLY up a member, up a zombie samurai from another dimension, but up nonetheless. The teachers and student body take absolutely no notice of this clearly alien face to this school and Nana had actually taken liberties and hid her true appearance with the help of Shizune's magic. She was even wearing the Nanto high official uniform (the school is bizzare in that it actually doesn't have a uniform policy because the school just doesn't care at this point) and has swapped out her deadly katana for a slightly less deadly wooden blade. B is in awe of this new presence.

Ito introduces her as the newest member of the Ito gang and fills her in on B, his right hand man and "uhh, information manager". He tells him that she is not from around here so he would have to show her the ropes, Nana gives B a soldiers salute. B excitedly shakes her hand with two of his own and introduces himself as B "Like a honey bee" he tries to say her name but gets his tongue twisted and thinks perhaps she should get a nickname. Nanatsume says that she will trust Master Ito to provide a suitably shorter name. B almost lets that slip by but freaks out a bit when she calls Ito "Master". Ito says it's fine to call her Nana-chan when B pulls him over and whispers to him asking him in a concerned manner if he is taking advantage of this foreign broad

Akira (M) happens to pass by the group in the hall and Nana bows at the boy adressing him as Akira-dono which against surprises B and he has suspicions that she might be a freelancer. Akira asks Nana out to get some icecream and Ito invites himself, Akira asks if that makes him Ito's sugar daddy and Ito almost does one of those "Lemme at im"'s. B also asks if Ito had actually been successful in recruiting Akira, he was not. B turns to Nanatsume and performs his administrative duties asking for an adress, a phone number, next of kin, a secure password and so on and so forth.

Shizune catches a whiff of thuggery and tiredly asks what these bozos are up to, Nana bows and again calls her master which gets another Nani!? from B. She also gets invited out for ice cream though B wonders if it is truly okay to bring her, Shizune being the leader for the totally real Ghost Glasses Gang. The crew ditches school for the moment and heads into the seedy heart of Dotonbori, they pass like five strip clubs before making it to Emisumairu, the very same ice cream shop that Akira took Shizune a long time ago.

Along with Shizune her "friend" Jagasaki tags along (in a more human form). He was not going to get cheated out of ice cream. The concept perplexes Nanatsume, especially in how it's served in a cone device. Of course Nanatsume gets the strawberry cone dripping with blood red strawberry sauce.

Ito tries to get B to step aside for the moment and get himself some ice cream but he gets side tracked when he remembers that he wanted to tell Ito this craaazy story that he saw a few days ago. Involving a dude and a few chicks and a demon in an alley. Ito asks what channel this was on but B ensures his friend that he is totally serious.

He was walking home one day and he see's this alley and smells something and goes "Man that smells good", he takes a look in and see's four of them going at it in a fight (this of course is Christophe Lombardo, Sister Mary and Eliza fighting some unknown entity). Shizune asks if he remembers what they looked like but he said it's hard to remember because he had a bad headache coming on when he saw it.

Now i'm sad I can't recreate this but in Roll20 I had created a "second screen" showing what B saw while puppeting the figures "fighting" eachother as B commented on the memory with "An this demon chick was like POW POW" and "Then she hits her WACHOW! and she goes down UGHH". He mentions there was some kind of shadow with like "a billion tails" in the fight as well. He mentions that the man was yelling about God and pizza pasta or something and the demon vanishes.

The characters here can imagine that that really happened but the story sounds so crazy that B himself isn't sure if it was real anymore saying he might have just been hallucinating from that headache.

Hmmmm. I've played a tank before. In games that aren't about moving though tight spaces in dungeons don't they usually have moves or techniques that help them draw fire and attention?

I'm also new to this system so I have no idea how to make a tank that is good at absorbing punishment and doing a lot to make sure they are being targeted.
>>
>>56777802
Shizune comments that weird stuff happens all the time and says that she has something important to do with that place, with the thing, and Akira has to help her and didn't Ito have to do the thing in that place that's halfway to this place with the thing Akira and her have to do? Shizune was trying her best here to get the group away from B so that they could discuss this.

Ito like the densest of metals completely lets this fly over his head and says that he needs to go on patrol with Nana and B. Shizune turns and gives Akira a knowing wink and a "re-mem-ber" to let him in on this being a bit of misdirection so they can investigate the area. Akira however gets flustered and completely misinterprets Shizunes words, her wink and suggestion and says "Wait, Shizu-nee, you mean we're gonna do *it* today" like he could not believe her words. Nanatsume whispers to Ito wondering if they are speaking in code as Shizunes neck audibly creaks to look at Akira with stiff disbelief with a "come again?"

Ito wrangles up B and Nana to go off an patrol their turf so that no weaklings try to take over. Akira is still: "...Hey, you guys heard what I heard, right? I'm not going crazy, am I?". Shizune is a bit stunned at Ito giving Nanatsume convinient orders and Akira gives a "Oi, c'mon, don't leave me hanging like this! Gimme a hand, you can't..." as they leave.

What would the best way to build an "evade" tank? Obviously Blade Flash would be useful, maybe Legacy User for overflow and human for spirit control.
>>
I don't know much about an evade tank in this game but perhaps Dragon Carrier B and Arc Slayer B might be your speed. [Guard] lets you jump in and take hits and Arc B lets you return damage.

Dragon Carrier B will give you a lot of mitigation to tank the hits harder and Arc Slayer lets you punish (at least thats what it looks like on paper), maybe for a third style you could go Elemental Adept B or God Hand B for more mitigation to the point where you're taking the hit but taking no damage
>>
would Time Wizard be a good second class for a Tank? Thinks you can't block or absorb, you prevent from happening in the first place via initiative and order fuckery?
>>
>>56776586
Offense is only king because people forget that engagements are things that can be activated by as little as saying they are to an adjacent person.

As a tank, its not your duty to draw everything towards yourself. Instead, its your job to move into their path and act as a roadblock. This is easier said than done, but one thing people need to realize is that to get out of an engagement you either need [Shift: Flight] or to "Withdraw".

Withdrawing is the action of breaking out of an engagement without using a specialized skill for doing so. It has the same move range as a combat move, but the same penalties as a Full move. Forcing others to either fight you or back off is the way of the tank in this game. So long as ruth is one square adjacent to something, it can't move towards the back line without taking heavy penalties for doing so, or risking getting decked.

There is a bit of awkward silence.

Shizune cuts through the silence becaue the shadowy figure B was talking about sounds like a kitsune and thats something Futaba might know more so she frantically takes out her phone and calls her with a quick and fast "hellofutaba-sansomethingverystrangehappenedandweneedyourhelp" . Jagasaki seems to be bothered by something so he goes to follow Ito out. Shizune fills in Futaba on the details and she suggests they check the area. Shizune notices Jagasaki slinking off and she tries to get him to stay to save her even more embarrasement. Akira snatches the phone and says very flustered "Futaba-san, Shizu-nee said we were going to do it, come here right now!", Futaba is very confused.

Jagasaki overhears this with a big WHAT WAS THAT?!. Shizune is looking frantically back and forth between the two not entirely understanding this very clear misunderstanding. Akira says we have to be honest to Futaba so she knows what they're dealing with and Jagasaki says that he is dealing with HIM and if he so much lays a finger on her he'll tear him apart. Akira says this wasn't his idea because Shizune suggested it. Shizune shouts that she said no such thing and does not understand what is going on but asks them both to drop it. Jagasaki is still simmering but he obeys and she says they should just meet Futaba. Misunderstandings are part and parcel with this group.

Demon Eye Arc Slayer B + Dark Hunter B
>>
>>56779993
>>56780466
Dragon carrier B is the style of choice for outright tanking, and Arc slayer B is the style of choice for punishing people that attempt to attack you.

Remember, you aren't supposed to set up shop and hold there, you need to move and get in the way of enemies so that they can't get behind you. Dragon carriers have issue with regular movement due to low initiative, but this can be rectified with the bio-skinsuit.

Either way, if you want to tank damage, your best shot is the guard line of talents in dragon carrier, and if you want to outright avoid it, arc slayer B is more your speed.

Also, Dark hunter A or B are always worth considering, like >>56781585 said because they open up movement options that don't have to do with your move speed.

>I'm glad you like it! I might do more if you get curious about something in one of the isekai storytimes.

I'd really like a retelling of the events of the first few sessions.

Going to school, fire drill, and then going to Haxia for the first time, the initial chaos surrounding that, and then everyone getting a chance to breathe and start processing what's going on.

All of that seems like it would be packed with role playing and character interactions that were cut from the first story timing of it for reasons of focusing on needing to get the plot laid out.

I'm guessing that would take several story timing sessions to get though in this more detailed manner, I'm good with being patient between sections of it though.

Meanwhile at the Onigata hotel, Futaba hangs up her phone and comes across her mother. She looks a bit physically beat up but stands firm and regal as usual. Futaba is concerned but she quells the thought by saying it was a mere scuffle, but asks her to pick up some miscellaneous healing poultices for her wounds while she's out in town.

The three meet up in what they correctly assume is the area where this went down, the curryhouse alley. They work on uncovering what went down here. The party at first assumes this was a fight between Kuristoffu Rombarudo and a stray spirit but they detect a tinge of the demonic. There is holy magic residue in the air and the remnants of a barrier, which is probably what made B nearly pass out. Futaba is putting the dots together but she really doesn't seem to want to say it, at least to these two.

Akira and Shizune are concerned about this spirit and the danger it might pose, especially with Reverse Godhunters and Ciero's Aramitama active in the area. This could affect the truce between the Society and The Church. Futaba finally breaks and tells them the person that fought with the church was likely her mother. The Onigata and The Church go about as well together as Consensual Vanilla and any given topic on /d/. The group leaves the alley with more questions than answers but they don't pry.

B is a good boy who is surrounded by bad influences. You could call him the somber yin to Ito's raging yang. Also Ito and B don't go about bullying people who don't deserve it, i.e rival delinquents and in Ito's case Shizune because ETERNAL RIVALS whether she likes it or not

A long time ago might be a stretch, it was early on in the campaign. Akira took Shizune into the darkest and seediest depths of Dotonbori for icee cream in what I believe was the first side session I ran for the group

Also that last post actually marks the end of that session. I have been posting more sporadically but that's really on me.

A couple of weeks at most.

Actually, I'm the one playing Shizune. Do any of you guys have questions about Kansaianon's storytime?
>>
>>56784538

Does Shizune have much of a life or contact outside the party? or was she living a very isolated existence in osaka?

Has she made friends or acquaintances with any sort of regular customers at the Combini?
>>
>>56784630
>Does Shizune have much of a life or contact outside the party?
little to none, because
>or was she living a very isolated existence in osaka?
She hates living in Osaka. A thing Kansaianon has not communicated (due to reasonable conservation of detail) is that Shizune constantly laments the fact she's currently living there, even to the point where she has introduced herself more than once commenting on it.
>Has she made friends or acquaintances with any sort of regular customers at the Combini?
No. We considered that with Kansaianon but we didn't get any good ideas for possible contacts there.
She also hates her job.
She also works in a maid cafe on weekends, but that's been kept secret. Seems like it won't be revealed because we're sort of progression locked as of the end of the last session. Needless to say, she does NOT like said job

_ALSO_

How does she get on so well with Akira while being so mopey and negative? Does she tone it down, or does Akira happen to be the sort with a high tolerance for it?

_AND_

How is Shizune set up mechanically, what is she intended to do, what of the intended works, what of the intended doesn't?
>>
>>56781524
I was actually a bit surprised Jagasaki got upset at the idea of Shizune having some fun and potentially advancing a relationship.

I guess he's more worried about the relationship going badly then Shizune collapsing in on herself from depression if she keeps going like she has been.

Or maybe he wants her to marry into money.
>>
>>56785240
1)Don't remember the exact quote, but when she presented herself to Furiten and Mei-ling she outright said "My name is Mitsuki Shizune, and I really don't like living in Osaka, but we have to do this" (referring to protecting the city) for example.
She's somewhat awkward and sometimes just says the first thing on her mind (see: the curry fiasco) and sometimes the first thing in her mind is that the place kind of sucks.
She also lamented the fact she hates the accent quite early on, but I don't remember exactly when.

2) Several things really. Akira not only is very friendly, but Shizune reciprocates the friendliness. She speaks her mind, but if no bullshit is happening, she's not complaining. Considering Shizune currently thinks Akira is transgendered and Akira has expressed anxiousness about 'being themself' she sort of feels like protecting Akira. As players we also have good chemistry, and we're sort of going with things that play out the other's shtick.
Narratively, it all comes down to the fact Shizune is a good person on the inside, but doesn't like showing it. For example, she genuinely took pity on Nanatsume when she saw she was being mind-controlled, but when Nanatsume asked why, she replied: "Well... It could be because I'm a very nice person. Or because we need information. Or because keeping you on our side is more convenient. Or I just like undoing what other mages do because I'm a spiteful person.
Up to you really. The fact of the matter is that you're not under that guy's control anymore"

3) As an Elder Mage A/God Hand AB, she's a nuker that can 'tank' by denying damage she takes (plus some debuffs) Lastly, she's a very utility-like character as Kansaianon allows me to do some 'freestyle magic' with INT checks, which I love.
Honestly, she does her job well and also scratches many of my itches as a player.
If I'm honest, I'm starting to think I fucked up because I think I did everything I wanted with the system with her.
>>
>>56785346
Jagasaki is actually lowkey very protective of Shizune. And for all his bluster, he's obedient and caring.

It may or may not be that she reminds him of someone else...

But that's something that was recently answered. Look forward to it!
>>
>>56785506
what itches are those?
>>
>>56785744
The fact another player liked the idea of Jagasaki being Shizune's "Servant" (in Fate terms) is a thing I've always wanted to do, and it's the biggest one, as it requires two players to pull off. I should say, it has worked remarkably well for both of us.
The player chemistry is top-tier even with Ito's player, and Kansaianon goes right into genuine 10/10 GMing territory sometimes.
From a thematic standpoint, I could go on all day talking about it. Suffice to say she's a fresh take on some concepts I've used to make characters before, as well some new ones I haven't had the chance to try up until now.
Personality-wise, I'm actually really surprised with how much I enjoy writing her dialogue, and there's been various situations where even I had some surprises.

Mechanically speaking, I generally like all-rounder types of characters with many options that can do spike damage when it's needed (even if they don't get to access all their options all the time). Shizune has that.
I also like mages that go with big cool spells, and I've absolutely taken advantage of fluffing them and such. The fact she's also very resistant to damage means I can indulge in a bit of power fantasy, which I usually don't do.
Finally, I love me some punch wizards, and she qualifies as that perfectly, just look at her Styles.

While I could be answering stuff about my character all night, do you guys have other questions related to the game? Kansaianon officially let me handle this thread while he sleeps.
>>
>>56784538

what makes the visual novel style of the game different compared to other more traditional ways games are run?

Where does it excel?
>>
>>56783827

how is Ito's mom's recovery going by this point?
>>
>>56786923
It's mostly a sensory thing. I'd say it allows you to focus on the characters mentally. It really catches your attention, and it gives the scene some, let's say 'weight' to them.
Otherwise, It's pretty usual stuff.
>>
>>56781799
Whenever an enemy moves into a square touching your characters sides on the grid, you can declare an engagement and stop them in their tracks. This wastes whatever movement they had left, and forces them to waste time in the subsequent round getting away from you.

Another method of tanking is "obstacle tanking" which works by putting obstacles on the map. Obstacles cannot be moved through, and do not count as engaged for area attacks. One method of this is to use Form: Hammer weapons
>>
>>56787212
so tanking in this game is dependent on map usage and loses it's best tools in purely description based combat?
>>
>>56788531
>purely description based combat
Kamigakari is similar to D&D4e in that it absolutely cannot work in the theater of the mind.
>>
>>56787097
Is part of the reason for this because you are thinking about the social interactions between the characters moving around on the stage instead of their spacial relationship to each other like you would when looking at a map?
>>
>that anon who got mad one of Kansainon's players was playing discount Midoriya
Well, he says that, but I'd totally make a Cyborg just to play Arale with absolutely zero shame.
>>
>>56788572
How nice does it play with non-rectangular maps and verticality?
>>
>>56788776
It works as any other grid-based TTRPG, as long as don't you use stupid shit like hexes.
>>
>>56788797
How much would using hexes actually fuck with things? Buffs engagement a bit, doesn't it?
>>
>>56788727
who and what is Arale and why do I hear DBZ fans talk about her?
>>
>>56788986
She's a robot from Toriyama's previous manga.
>>
>>56788665
It just helps keeping the characters visible, and thus relevant in the mind. Humans experience the world with their senses, after all, and it's easier to focus on roleplaying when you can 'outsource' your visual feed, is what I think.

>>56788727
But no one is playing anything resembling Midoriya in Kansaianon's game .
Who would even get mad at such a thing.

>>56789057
so do you use a maps for combat?
(I used roll 20 to make grid for this map which is why there is no grid on the image file. just a 5 foot bar to use when sizing the grid [though because one of the PCs was teeny tiny all the maps actually used a 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot {2 feet 6 inch} grid instead of a 5 foot by 5 foot grid])
>>
>>56788907
Actually, so far as that goes, it would buff both engagements and area attacks both. Since an engagement would be anywhere a side is touching and every hex surrounding you is touching a side, being in an engagement is MUCH easier, but that also means nukes get more powerful.

Its an interesting concept, i could see it working with some jury rigging.

Anyways, what i meant with the tanking thing is that positioning based tanking is important, but if the character themselves can't take a hit its a bit moot since the enemies will knock you out. You need toughness, mobility, and perhaps the ability to control the map some. But the idea of tanking in the MMO "Taunt an enemy and its forced to hit you" terms doesn't exist in this game.
>>
>>56789610
Thats actually what makes roll20 such a good tool for kamigakari. You can lay out a map, adjust it as you please, and the site itself will deal with the grid and token positioning.
>>
>>56789610

Sorry for the delay, but here we go! Also apologies for the rest of the scene mostly involving Ruth, as the chat had moved to Discord and not many other players were around for too long.

The party scatters to various parts of the room to rest, or investigate a bookshelf in Hayate's case. He flips through a couple to find basic educational texts of various levels, maybe 6th or 7th grade at most, while the bottom shelves hold mostly picture books. The images themselves are quite dark: darkstalkers completing menial tasks with bright smiles, being sold, money exchanging hands. All of the darkstalkers wear collars and seem happy. There are references to something called a "Selling Day." It seems to be pretty blatant propaganda.

Ruth decides to join one of the less crowded tables, where she's greeted by a rambunctious pumpkin-headed child before she can even sit down, waving his arms and saying "You're Missus Ruth the Whirlwind, right? Or, is it Miss Ruth the Whirlwind? Do you wanna hear a joke!"
Too afraid of being rude, Ruth takes him up on his offer, though between the crossed arms and perpetual angry glare her answer of "whatever" comes out a lot meaner than she intended. The kid is thankfully unfazed, and asks her what's brown and sticky. Before she can answer, he blurts out "a stick!" This pinnacle of comedy gold elicits a laugh from the other darkstalker at the table, a satyr-looking teenager previously practicing scales on a pan flute, while Ruth admits over the mental link she'd never had someone try to tell her a joke before.

"Didja' like it?" the boy asks with a light in his eyes that tells Ruth his entire future as a person is relying on this answer. She's too scared of being rude to say no even if she wanted to, and after a hesitant "yeah" the pumpkin-headed boy cheers and introduces himself as Lach. Evidently he's been writing down jokes on paper, but he hastily covers them up when she looks, admitting that most of them aren't done.

Episode summary? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Given the online nature of the game all of the logs are online and the players can quite easily "rewind" to recap them.
>>56791755
Well fluff wise you'd make it really small, thats not a problem. The problem lies in mechanically making it work. You'd want to stack as many +Ranks and PD onto it as you can, there isn't any way mechanically that I can think of to simulate pushback but according to the book 1sq is not actually a unit of measurement like in other games. Like in D&D and other such like games 1sq can mean 5ft whereas in Kamigakari you can be a bit more abstract about it.
>>
>>56791996
>Episode summary? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
I meant the Episode Outline, but goofed. Like this from the sample adventures
>A golden beast within the darkness, and the evil vermin that serve it. Fangs that pierce through steel, and a downpour of iron poles. An aberration symbolic of true fear, a rainbow Crest burnt into its flesh. That is the proof of being a "god." When the mad god with red eyes appeared upon the soil of Hisashiro, the girl's beautiful memories were defiled by that evil. The story of conflict between humans and gods begins here. Legendary Arms RPG—"Godhunters."
Honestly this seems like it would just be kind of confusing when read to you at the start of the session.
>>
>>56792080

Lach asks if it's hard being a Guardian, to which Ruth admits yes both in and out of the mental link, very hard. He asks if it's because of the others, motioning towards the rest of the party in the various corners of the room, and surprisingly enough she answers yes again. She unintentionally admits over the mental link that keeping up with everyone else has been impossible, and she's clearly the weak link here. Su objects, hushing Ruth's self-depreciation and assuring her that she's been nothing but helpful.

Lach suddenly asks the question of the hour: "Are they your friends? Are you gonna fight 'em when they turn bad?"
Without thinking Ruth answers yes, intending to only answer the first question, but judging by the satyr darkstalker's sad gaze Ruth realizes they didn't interpret it that way. She tries to cover it up by saying she'll fight anybody who threatens this place, which Lach finds cool. He asks Flot if he thinks that's cool, with Flot apparently being the satyr-looking darkstalker across the table, and he nods.

Flot turns to Ruth asks if she knows how long before her friends 'turn,' and she's hesitant to answer. She eventually mumbles that she doesn't know before adding that she doesn't want to fight them, and Su adds that they wouldn't be able to hurt her and she couldn't will herself to hurt them. Flot nods and changes the subject, asking Ruth if she has any advice for selling day. There's some confusion before Flot apologizes for asking out of reflex, realizing that a new Guardian wouldn't have any idea what that means, and explains it's basically the day he goes on auction, though he's not sure what day that is yet.

After some questions Flot explains a little further that Selling Day is a bit like a talent show too: each darkstalker gets to try showing off a skill of their choosing in front of an audience before the auctioning starts. He also admits that he hopes he gets bought by someone who wants him to play music, preferably by the same person Schlange works for since he already knows her, but the odds are low. Ruth asks if he's scared, and he says yeah, it'd be stupid not to be. She notes that's exactly what her master says.

There's some shock from the other darkstalkers as Ruth talks about her master, Akumu-sensei from the real-world dojo, without realizing that there's some miscommunication happening. It doesn't help when she says he taught her the Way of the Perfect Murder, to which Flot coughs nervously and stammers that he should really keep practicing for his Selling Day. With Lach concentrating on his writing and Flot trying his best to now avoid eye contact, Ruth sits awkwardly for a few minutes while worrying over the mental link that she'd said something wrong before finally standing up and wishing Flot good luck.

With nowhere else to go, Ruth creeps stealthily over to the other table, hoping nobody notices. Having all of the stealth capabilities of a bull in a china shop, the oni-looking darkstalker immediately quiets her storytelling and the entire table turns to Ruth.

"Ah, seems we got a couple 'a visitors children. An' important ones."
Ruth sits at the edge of the table, with Su following behind and retorting that they're no more important than a good story. The ghostly-looking darkstalker pokes at Ruth, while the antennaed one shouts that she can't just touch the Guardian like that. Su chuckles, teasingly correcting that the proper etiquette would be to *hug* her instead, evidently wanting to see her friend swarmed by children. The antennaed one, evidently named Fehler, argues against it to Ruth's relief, while Furcht the medusa keeps avoiding eye contact with anyone. Once the joking is aside, the blue oni introduces herself as Kalt and asks if there's anything the Guardians need.

Ruth forces herself to speak up again, saying that she doesn't know any stories of the darkstalkers and just wants to learn. Su says over the mental link that she's proud of how much Ruth is talking today, to her embarrassment. Ruth brings up the origin story of the darkstalkers, and Kalt gladly obliges:
"Mad Maker was one who made Darkstalkers. Was defeated. Erased. No one knows Maker's face or name. Broodmother was great mother of Darkstalkers. Created the great army that was first Darkstalkers. Believed to be mother of all Darkstalkers. Teacher was sister of Broodmother and gave Darkstalkers teachings. Made them more than monsters. Let us continue to live after war."
Ruth tentatively asks if they've always lived like this.
"Darkstalkers were beasts. Wild, feral. Then we knew. We fought to stay alive. Then were slaves. Darkest time. Guardians have given us small freedom. Is why we hope for you...and not others."

Su inquires about the Korefuta clan of demoneyes, whom we'd learned in the past to be one of the major controllers of the darkstalker slave trade through history. She specifically inquires what they thought about small freedoms that past Guardians had given to the darkstalkers.
"Korefuta and Darkstalkers born together. Most did not like. Korefuta lost profit, suffered least. We lost children."

Ruth pipes up again, hesitantly asking if there are any darkstalker stories with *happy* endings.
"All stories end. All ends are somewhat sad. Goodbyes are never welcome."
"But you ask if darkstalker have day in sun? Depends. Small victories here and there. Collars were good day. Learning to read good day. Making of Selling Day, good day."
Kalt tells of a few darkstalker Guardians in the past, specifically focusing on the last one, a griffin darkstalker by the name of Sky's Shadow. Evidently he was the one to establish rudimentary education for child darkstalkers, and also abolished child slavery itself.

At one point Ruth brings up the question of if they have many stories of darkstalkers winning their freedom. Her only answer at first is some odd looks, and Kalt explains that no, there are no stories of darkstalkers winning their own freedom. Only Guardians. Ruth admits that she thinks those kinds of stories are important to tell, even if they're fairy tales. Kalt looks at her strangely.

"We do not know such stories. Maybe you do?"

So did any of the PCs have motivation to get good grades? (It seem like most of the PCs have no interest, and the school itself is so bad that there is little point in trying, all of which provide extra justification for skipping school as needed)

I'm wondering because this is going to be my first time playing a character who is also a student, and something that always stumped me about those kinds of games is how you would play a PC who gets up to adventures while going to school.

My real world experience provides no help.

middle school and high school were really time consuming and monotonous things for me due to disabilities that made writing assignments as well as all aspects of math (learning it, doing homework, and taking tests) very very time consuming

So if I'd had a job or any extra responsibilities ontop of that I would have been fucked since just working harder and spending what time was left over trying to catch up would not have been an option since I was already exhausting myself doing that.

Keep in mind that it's super likely that the high school part will be just to get everyone something in common and a way to know each other.

I'd be very surprised if it was more involved than that and maybe something where you have to beat up a monster as part of an exam.

My suggestion is to not draw on your own experiences, but rather, watch something to gain a frame of reference.

There's hundreds of anime that do it, and a large subset of those include magic. It'd be a good bouncing off point. I wouldn't suggest most western stuff for it though. school is most often depicted in a way that seems like it should shelter everyone from everything, or as the "Rebellious teen" thing in a lot of shows, so western media isn't great for getting a view on school life.
>>
>>56799690

Akira's player here. For Akira, school is more or less a game - it's a nice bit of escapism to pretend they're normal, have normal responsibilities, and only menial tasks like homework to deal with. At the end of the day, though, they're very aware they're not normal and never can be. Their grades are solid, but not especially amazing because there's no reason to try when what you're good at is killing targets and being anyone but yourself.
>>
>>56807077
this idea of seeing school as an escape or chance to pretend to be normal is what I'm running with atm.

I can certainly try to give the first few sessions a shot, though it'll take some rereading to get the story accurate enough. I'll warn ahead of time that this was one of those games where it took a few sessions for everyone to really settle into their characters, and the players (self included) were really chomping at the bit to follow the railroad at first until the supernatural elements were introduced and the game could begin in earnest.

>>56792210
Ruth chose it...sort of? There was actually a whole episode dedicated to everyone deciding on their hero names, since that's apparently really important for Guardians.

>>56794318
After that? The episode continued in earnest: more soldiers broke through the walls, apologized to the kids for breaking the walls, and the chase continued. Each character got their own scene that episode with a group of people that wanted them to be *the* Guardian; Ruth's was just the first. I could storytime the other scenes later if you'd like?

>>56797336
Fehler's character notes just say "Bug Darkstalker," so I suppose your guess is as good as mine. I'll have to ask the GM for a better description when I can, since I'm curious now.

>>56802538
I'm glad you like it! I may have to take you up on that offer if the problem gets any worse; Ruth's a whole lot of fun to roleplay, but once the dice come out even Su outclasses her in damage.

>>56803005
That's a good question; I'll have Ruth bring it up in-character next chance I get and return with a better answer.

>>56807917
Survey says yes! Even her own strength couldn't push it open while her power was rotating it closed.

Excited for next week's session, as it's apparently taking place in the real world! Su's experimenting with pizza dough recipes, and has invited everyone to her house for a dinner party to try it. This'll be the first time any of the characters have visited another's house, and we'll finally be actually meeting some of the party's families too.

How much planning do you usually do before a session? All of the storytimes sound like they're super detailed. I'm wondering if that's the players and the GM being enthusiastic
>>
>>56811345
The issue with your character is that you chose a wholly defensive style with a mixed damage style.

Dragon carrier B is almost wholly defensive, where-as A is a mixed bag of magical and physical damage. This means that your damage will be lower overall, but you will never be at a disadvage in the same way an arc slayer or elder mage would.

I can probably help to boost your damage, but i'd need a rundown on your weapons, talents, level, and how much cash you have on hand. The simplest way to increase your output though, would be to take another style thats wholly meant for offense, like arc slayer A, Elder mage A, God hand A, ETC.

I've already got the first part right here for you!

Back at DSH HQ the crew reconvenes and makes a plan of attack to combat Ciero and his Aramitama. The place is pretty much patched up from the attack, even down to duct tape on window cracks. In the head office sits the Wicked Witch with her legs up on Goezome's desk. The society is functioning at 72% and the boys in the lab (by which she means Boskonovich and Masamune) but they still had a problem wherein they have to stop the problem at it's source.

They brought Dorothy up to speed (but intentionally neglected to mention the new friend they made was actually an Aramitama, and undead to boot). The prospect of the team taking out one of them on their own makes Dorothy breathe happy relief. Ito asks if these meetings are neccessary and she replies that it's for Goezome's books, she really is a stickler for the rules. The witch has some good news, Furiten and Mei-ling have narrowed down where the enemy is holed up. Ito asks about the bad news and Dorothy replied with something along the lines of "Why do you assume there is bad news" with a smile, which immediately turns to a dull annoyed expression because yes, there is bad news.
>>
>>56814679
The bad news is where the enemy is holed up they have established a domain, sitting right on top of a leyline and it's big. In laymans terms it's a king in the castle situation except with all the perks of actually having a castle. Ito asks how they built a castle without anyone noticing. Dorothy is having trouble processing this stupidity and says it's like a Yakuza film where the big bad boss is at the top of his building with like a thousand bad guys. Ito immediately interprets this as them bringing a gang on his turf, which solves that problem. Kind of?

This isn't going down without a fight which rouses up Akira (F) and Jagasaki. Shizune and Futaba were not present (this is because the players had to unfortunately miss the session but this part was really rather short). Now all they really needed to know now was where exactly this domain is. "You do know how to get to Osaka castle right?"
>>
File: osaka castle lake.jpg (26 KB, 550x368)
26 KB
26 KB JPG
>>56814698
It suddenly makes sense for Ito (apparently). They didn't make a castle, they stole one! Dorothy is holding the bridge of her nose with her hand and decides just to not approach this boy. The plan of attack was more important. The castle was composed of several layers bottom to top. The actual domain sits in something of a mirror world, the "Reverse" side of Osaka castle. If you knock on the front door who knows what baddies are going to come at you, the solution? Dorothy points at a lake just outside the castle, they would go underneath.

Once they are through they can move into the reverse Osaka castle, Dorothy can set up a layer of obfuscation magic to mask their arrival. Akira asks what the catch is. The catch is that this is pretty much the only way in and out of the castle. If the team gets pushed in hard on a high level, they would have to come all the way down back through the other levels to get out. Though the bottom layer would be something akin to a domain for the Demon Hunters, a safe refuge.

Dorothy isn't well versed in recovery magic but she hands over a small bottle of pills that Boskonovich has brewed up in the lab. She calls them "Senzu" (i'm absolutely shameless). This medicine acts as a quick recovery agent working with the natural flow of untapped mana in the body that can restore even the most deady of ailments, the catch is that they only had a limited ammount. Lastly they recieved a line of credit to use on gear and the like to prepare them for the assault, one would assume they'd need it.

The team is given some time to prepare in the coming week, getting tooled up. Some more than most. It's a cold morning. The entire team is here with the exception of one gi- bo- person. Nanatsume stands in the distance concealed by Shizunes obfuscation magic. Dorothy asks if they know their plan of attack. Ito proudly boasts that they're going to go in and beat the crap out them. The boy had been appropriately geared up ditching his school uniform for a thin shirt, shorts and a heavy, oversized coat he hadn't bothered to put his arms through the sleeves of. The Kanji for "BANCHO" was proudly displayed on his back

Nuanced as always Shizune comments. Jagasaki only plans to enjoy himself. Dorothy likes the attitude here, getting a good vibe, yep. The witch taps her staff in the lake asking the question if anyone doesn't know how to swim. Ito claims that if the school had a swimming team that he would be the captain, overconfident as always. It's at this point Akira(M) arrives

He comments that Ito looks more like a boxer than a swimmer to him as he turns the corner in and takes a bow. He was late because he needed to get some practice in with a new piece of gear he had spent his credit on. He was wearing a very "snug" hi-tech suit, which left nothing to the imagination.

Dorothy says this guy has the right idea, thing is practically made for swimming. Ito asks if he left his self respect in his other pants. Shizune comments "..Yeah" not sure where to put her eyes "Not a lot of uh, water resistance there". Futaba lets out a laugh. Akira strikes a pose saying to them that they can't deny he looks good in this. Shizune comments that he looks "uh... au naturel" and Futaba says he looks ready, to join a cosplay stripping service that is, this gets a Heyooo from Dorothy. Akira crosses his arms and pouts that they really do know how to take the fun out of his job.

Ito thought ahead this time and brought himself a towel! Though he would have to swim with it. Shizune asks if they are ACTUALLY going to swim considering Dorothy might have a little spell up her sleeve to get them through. She does indeed have a spell. She taps her staff on the ground and there is a burst of light. Nothing happens to the water but Dorothy is in a swimming bikini, still wearing her witch hat. Yep they'd have to swim

GM side talk time! Now while Akira M is in this scene we do have art for both forms, which is fine. But one of my players, namely the player of Shizune drew some art featuring Akira F and this suit and i'd love to share it with you in the next post.

What activity "isn't going down"? Has it been said what Ciero is doing in his stronghold?

how does the Arc Slayer talent "Mysteries of Battle" work?

does it just give a +10 damage modifier to any successful physical, magic, or special attack?

Also does the (max +20) mean that if you attack multiple times in a round, no more than 2 successful attacks get the +10 modifier, or does it mean that if you take the +10 modifier then any other modifiers that stack with it can't bring the modifier above +20?

>>56815105

what does that that mean?

>>56815165
why is she getting ready to suicide? because she can't get it out of her head, it's making her feel things that make her uncomfortable, or something else?
>>
>>56823687
This ones a bit convoluted. So for example, you make an attack with two overlapping talents that work "On accuracy checks", including passives. For each one, at damage calculation, you simply add +10 to the total damage you would have done for each one that is active at that exact time.

So its not that 2 successful attacks get +10 and +20, but that if you stack 2 other effects with that particular wording in them on top of the initial attack, you can get up to +20.

The maximum of 20 is only for the effects of mysteries of battle. For example, if you manage to stack 3 such effects on top of an initial attack, you would still only get +20 from mysteries of battle.
>>
>>56823821
That IS convoluted.

the overlapping talents would need to be from different timings right?
>>
>>56823647
Okay, i looked through all the digital sorcerer talents, including the ones in the fifth expansion, and here's what my thoughts are

If you mean sheer damage then a combination of
>Assualt/Combat Module
>Might Iterator (Expansion 5)
>Battle Code (Expansion 5, Ultimate)
>Killing code
>Overwrite (1/Combat)
>Power sort (Expansion 5, requires Overwrite, Written as Override)

This is the highest damage a Digital sorc A can do on its own.

So far as just the most useful thing in general for your party though would be this
>Zohar Method
>Digital Mastery (Ultimate)
>Rollback (Expansion 5, Ultimate)
>Extend code

And the most interesting one of the bunch is Effect Core Dump. Once per combat, it lets you take any one [Timing: Attack] ability that an enemy has used, and use it yourself treating any costs as paid. So if the boss just nuked your party and you are still alive, you can nuke them right back.
>>
>>56824112
Sort of. Yes, in that once you use a timing for a talent, its consumed. No, in that Unique talents can be used at any time they are applicable.

So you'd need a good amount of unique timing talents and a couple spirit fixers to use mysteries of battle consistently.

Is «Concentrated Assault» in expansion 5 as stupid good as I think it is if you are trying to make a character who will develop into someone who functionally has/is the gun for any job?
>>
>>56824296
>So you'd need a good amount of unique timing talents and a couple spirit fixers to use mysteries of battle consistently.

Please elaborate. The Errata document says

>Page 90~147, there's currently a mix-up with the Effect Class of 'Use On Active Check'. Currently there ARE NO TALENTS in the core PDF that should have 'Use On Active Check', and rather, any you see should be 'Use While Active'. This means they are not compatible with Mysteries of Battle. Anything else you see with Use On Accuracy Check/Use On Conjure Check is fine.

I'm not really sure what that means, but it sounds like it's more difficult than it first appears to make mysteries of battle work for a build.
>>
>>56825151
It would certainly make you very capable in a lot of situations.

However, you need to remember that it requires you to make a WEAPON ATTACK. This means you cannot use any other attack talent with it, meaning its damage is more or less fixed without unique talents.
>>
>>56825216
>sounds like it's more difficult than it first appears to make mysteries of battle work for a build.

Correct. Its actually horribly convoluted and not terribly easy to use. Only things that say "Use on accuracy/Use on conjure check" work with mysteries of battle, but thats a matter of semantics. Most attacks are active checks, this just means that it only works on talents in which you are attacking the foe, or other offensive actions.

As for
>So you'd need a good amount of unique timing talents and a couple spirit fixers to use mysteries of battle consistently.

What i mean is that unique talents do not have a timing to consume, so to speak. Each individual one can be used at any time their effect would be usable, regardless of the time at which they are done. Your turn, someone elses turn, the enemies turn, it doesn't matter.

In this case, you'd want to focus on ones that overlap with your attacks as an Arc slayer A.

As for spirit fixers, these are talents that "Fix" your spirit die pool, helping you to use your talents more consistently. One example of this is «Aura Commandment» In expansion 2, which can be used once per round at the end of a round to change the number on a die that hasn't been exhausted by 1. You would reroll exhausted spirit afterwards.

So to put my comment back together, you would need a lot of [Timing: Unique] talents to stack on top of arc slayer attacks, and a spirit fixer like «Aura Commandment» To make sure you can actually use them.
>>
>>56825315
I'm beginning to think taking this talent for my first kamikagari character is a really bad idea.
>>
>>56825364
I wouldn't suggest taking it, no. In action, its way simpler, but it requires you to know how the system works.

Its also not all that great. +20 PD is pretty good, but you'd get more from unique talents anyways.
>>
why are heavy firearms in the core book restricted to utility mains?
>>
>>56825411
From a balance perspective, to give utility mains something only they can use. So far as stat mains go, you'll generally min-max towards your preferred weapon or style of choice. Martial will generally go with heavy hitter 2-handers or ambidexterity, Arcane will use magic weapons usually, and utility basically only get some of the more robust ranged weapons.

From a min-maxing perspective, there's almost no reason to take utility. Its always middle of the road in actual stats, and is locked out of some fairly good stuff, So it needs something that would make people want to play with that set of stats.
>>
that makes sense. though now I'm questioning my decision of trying to build a martial around shooting things.
>>
>>56824264
>Effect Core Dump

Thank you! My other style is pretty talent-heavy so I'm probably going to focus on support.
>>
>>56825512
I don't know which is your main and which is your sub, but you may wanna look into getting digital mastery anyways. Nothing says support like "Hey guys, use your nukes more often"

>>56825493
That would indeed be more difficult. If you want to keep the ranged motif, you could get talents that let you attack from a range, like the scions 99 Regalia.

I'm not sure if people know this, but your stat choice doesn't determine what you are restricted too, your main style and race do. At least so far as Martial, Utility, or arcane go. In fact, your stat type can be martial and you can have Utility as your main style's group, and you'd be restricted to using utility items.
>>
>>56825603
Contractor B/Digital Sorc A. Goal is to be mostly support, but have some blasty in reserve for when no one needs my help.
>>
>>56825891
Contractor B, eh? well, if you are willing to waste a talent on it, you could go ambidexterity and grab the enhanced handguns from Expansion 1. Or better yet, the enforcement II from expansion 2. Black predator is also an option, but it would slow you down due to the higher initiative penalty. The Dawnhunters pretty good, with high attack and no initiative loss, but its a fair bit more expensive than the others.

Or, you could get the Thunder rain from expac 2. Its switch hand, so you can't dual wield it, but it is equally as strong as the heavy firearms and faster to boot.

If you really want that 2handed power though, the volkommen and angelhowl from book 2 are way stronger, and more expensive, than the heavy firearm in the main book.

The expansions have some good weapon options. You'd be well-served looking through them.
>>
>>56826065
Yeah, I grabbed myself the summoning smartgun because my utility designation means I can't use most magic weapons (and its digital sorc designation means I don't have to buy another item to cast digital sorc spells).

Rather, when he filled out other talents.
>>
>>56827253
Lame.

I guess it makes sense, though, since Kamigakari is big on refluffing and not super big on homebrew.
>>
>>56827284
True enough. That said, so far as mechanics and fluff go, its not really necessary to homebrew any mechanics because a light refluffing with a similar effect will almost always be the more balanced option. In this regard, isekai anon keeping the special homebrew powers to the Earth side of things was a clever move.

The only things i'd say you honestly NEED to homebrew are mononoke, since you can run through them damn quick.

It's kinda worthless compared to base Focused Assault unless you really really need to do magic damage. +1 Attack > +3 rank boost to an attack, by a country mile. If you're not into making your damage more flexible instead of making it stronger, don't even bother.

Having something you can just switch over to the other damage type as needed isn't exactly a bad idea, especially since its a regular weapon attack, so it would be an accuracy check rather than a conjure check for the magic damage.

If something is eating your phys damage like a fat kid eats cake, then having something else up your sleeve is never a bad idea.

>>56837979
>the downside is that a shitty rusemaster flaked

Thats a downside how?
>>
>>56813379
That makes some sense, Dragon Carrier A does seem like it likes to split between magical and physical damage. I went pretty heavily on the defensive side since I wanted to «Guard» my friends a lot. That's been working out pretty well at least, since Su tends to give Ruth an emergency overflow when she really needs to be protected.

Current weapon is the Wrecking Ball from Expansion 1 (PD +6, INIT -2, can spend [Prep] to turn into a [Ranged Attack]), with tentative plans to swap it for the Abominable Bar-Like Thing from Expansion 2. Racial chosen talents are Bestial Transformation and Wall Walk, while the others are Guard, Physical Augmentation (later plan to take Transformation Unnecessary from Expansion 5), Spark Zapper, and Piercing Crystal. I'll probably be getting rid of Spark Zapper in favor of Storm Assault (Expansion 3) since that plays nice with Ruth's ability to ignore engagements with a combat move, and getting rid of Piercing Crystal in favor of...something. Probably an upgrade to Guard. Those two talents were picked up impromptu while fighting a boss with a whole lot of armor, and never touched since. She deals an average of 25 damage per hit, for the record.

She's currently level 3, though as of the latest episode she could jump all the way to level 6, so there's a lot of wiggle room for what she can take at the moment. After a major windfall from the last episode, Ruth's got 12,100 gold to spend on whatever she wants. I'm tempted beyond belief to spend it all on the Variable Metal armor.

Sorry for the delay! The GM only posted how much gold we got from the last episode literally a few minutes ago.
>>

>>

>>
>>56838020
Nah, no problem at all. Gimme a little to look up what all that does because i don't memorize things properly, and i'll see if i can't help out your damage output.

Just to be clear though, you have
Racial:
>Bestial Transformation
>Wall walk
Dragon carrier A:
>Physical Augmentation (Plan to switch to transformation unnecessary, Expac 5)
>Spark Zapper (Plan to switch with storm assault, Expac 3)
>Piercing crystal (Can be switched)
Dragon Carrier B:
>Guard
Weapon:
>Wrecking Ball (Expac 1)

And you have 12000 gold straight up to spend? I dunno what you have currently, but i wouldn't blow all of it on just the variable metal quite yet. The Bio Skinsuit is a cheaper alternative, and doesn't have an initiative penalty.
>>
>>56838099
>>56838125
Fair enough. It does suck that someone that wanted to play has to GM, admittedly, but hopefully everyone has fun.
>>
>>56838256
Woops, messed that up slightly. Rather than planning to switch to Transformation unnecessary, you plan to take it on top of physical augmentation.

I'm gonna level with you here, you could do better simply by spending some points on crystal installs stuff. True Crystal Install gives a +5 To armor and barrier on top of Crystal installs initial 3, So you would be wasting around 2 talents for the effect of 1 from your other style.

And keep in mind, you can have both active simultaneously, Crystal transformation and crystal install.

>>
>>56838256
Yep, that looks accurate save for what you already corrected in your next post.

>>56838404
True that, True Crystal Install would be an easier alternative, but the reasoning for taking Physical Augmentation was that there just didn't seem to be a lot of non-●/◎ talents that were worth taking in its place at the time. Transformation Unnecessary's real prize is that +5 to initiative on top of the armor/barrier bonus, because Ruth's second major weakness is movement speed, but I'll likely pick up True Crystal Install as well if I have the room.

Ruth usually kicks off battle with Crystal Install, Crystal Transformation, and Bestial Transformation all at the first [Timing: Start] by burning all of her spirit dice at once, if she can help it.

>>56840752
Righto, more equipment info: Ruth's Wrecking Ball has both the Diamond Casing and External Casing modifications, giving a +6 to her Armor while wielding it. She wears a Spirit Breastplate (-1 Evasion, -4 Initiative, +5 Armor, +3 Barrier), a Spirit Belt (+4 Armor while in Crystal Install/Transformation), and a Spirit Wrist (+2 Barrier while in Crystal Install/Transformation) that's been modded with Material Synthesis for an extra +2 Barrier. Really tempted to jump for Variable Metal armor (-3 Initiative, +12 Armor, +7 Barrier) since I wouldn't have to worry about buying armor again for the rest of the game, but I'm holding back in case there's a better idea.

On that note: I'm ready for advice!
>>
>>56843601
Okay, in that case, i can help you out a fair bit. And keep in mind, all of this is solely advice, you can take it or leave it as you please. I'm assuming Dragon carrier A as your main style as well. And this runs under the assumption that talent swapping works as per the regular rules, meaning 1 talent can be re-trained for something equivalent per level up.

I tried to increase your overall output, offensively and defensively, and increase your initiative and movement speed. I also take into account your wall walk and try to improve your combat move. However, not all of this will be manageable immediately, due to a lack of gold, levels, or something else.

Having said that, i'll put the advice in the next post, since its somewhat long. Feel free to ask me about anything you aren't sure of my reasoning on.
>>
>>56843703
>Dragon Carrier A main style
>talent swapping as per regular rules
Correct on both accounts, advise away!
>>
>>56843713
Okay then. Without further dilly dallying, here it is.

Talents to trade (In order, 1 traded per level up, skip for level 5)
>Physical Augmentation for Force Buster
>Spark Zapper for Storm assault
>Piercing Crystal For True Crystal Install

Talents to get (Not in Order, Make sure to get level 5 high talent rather than one of these)
>Second Stage Transformation (DC A Ult)
>Dash Guard
>Spirit Controlled Rush

Other types of talents (Suggestions):
High talent Level 5(Replaces general talent gained at 5, if chosen):
>Continuous Action (An extra timing is better than combo skill)
>Additional Dragon's Veins (Expac 1)
>Specialized Arts (Expac 1)
Racial talent Level 5(Gained along with general or high talent at level 5):
>Close combat resilience
>Supernatural war
>Thundering gallop
>Supernatural Force (Expansion 5)
>Darkstalker Bloodline (Expansion 5)
>Hellish Return (Expansion 5)

Equipment:
>Replace Wrecking Ball with Emperors hammer (Same price as bar and overall better)
>If you go with Bar over Hammer, Get a shield (Shields can be used with switch hand weapons) In particular, Gauntlet of strength, Shield saw, and Gigant Shield are my suggestions.
>Wait on getting Variable Metal armor
>Consider getting Tatenashi or Dragonscale (Both Expax 2) Rather than Variable Metal.
>Get Jet Shoes (Expac 1) when convenient
>Overall advice is to go with Emperors hammer and jet shoes initially, then Dragonscale/Tatenashi at your discretion

What would you name this Artificial Regalia?
>>
>>56843734
First list look good! Force Buster is nice, a couple enemies have tried halving damage before. Shame about how expensive it is to use, though.

In the second list, I can't seem to find what Spirit Controlled Rush is for the life of me. Sorry, I may be an idiot. Dash Guard is a must-have, of course. Also, what are your thoughts on switching out Second Stage Transformation for Supernatural Force instead? Since it also adds a main stat to damage, but requires a DC 13 Strength check instead of being passive, which is a relatively easy check that also gives an opportunity to Influence for dice Ruth needs.

Your High Talent list gave an incredible idea: taking Specialized Arts for Guard makes it free. I wouldn't have to hoard dice out of fear of not being able to protect people anymore. I can *do things* with my dice for once. I love it!

The Racial Talent list is pretty tough choice, but I think Darkstalker Bloodline is the winner by a hair. Real tempted to get Close Combat Resilience, but the only people so far who've done substantial damage to Ruth's HP have been archers and mages, which would ignore that anyway.

For equipment, I hadn't actually looked at all of the armor from the other expansions, and Dragonscale/Tatenashi are just straight upgrades to Variable Metal on top of being cheaper. Thanks for pointing me at those! Hard choice between them, but Dragonscale has that tasty initiative/evasion bonus so I'll likely go with that. Jet Shoes look neat, definitely jumping for it when I can.

As for the weapon, I originally only liked the Bar for its ability to turn an attack's target into [Area] once per turn. AoE is nice, and those shields you mentioned give neat bonuses. The Hammer looks nice too, though. Wielding the Bar and the Shield Saw would push the Bar's damage above the Hammer's while giving Armor, Barrier and Evasion at the cost of -5 Initiative in comparison.

Whoops, there goes all my space. More thoughts to come!
>>
>>56844282
Shit, i meant force strike, not force buster. Either or would work though, since they have an upgrade in expac 5, where-as spark zapper gets nothing they wouldn't. Spirit controlled rush is in the same talent list as Storm assault, and is the progression of it. Its in expac 3, but here it is.

● «Spirit-Controlled Rush»
Timing : Constant
Range : User
Target : User
Cost : None
Through mastery of combat movement, you are able to control your spirit energy as you do the distance between you and your opponent.
Passive Effect. «Storm Assault» Required. The target gains +2 to {Initiative}. Also, after the target makes a [Combat Move], they may add or subtract 1 from one [Spirit] die (cannot adjust above 6 or below 1).

As for jet boots, keep in mind thats also +2 squares straight up to your combat move, on top of the +2 initiative.
>>
>>56844326
Even if I didn't end up taking any of this advice, you pointed me to a lot of options I didn't even realize I had which was really cool of you. That said, I'm definitely taking a lot of this advice! Next level Ruth's going to do some major talent swapping thanks to you, and hopefully catch up to the party a little.

Spark Zapper and Piercing Crystal are definitely getting thrown out the window. Your correction for taking Force Strike makes a lot more sense, and I'll probably jump for that. With all of the bonuses to Armor/Barrier Ruth's getting thanks to your handy equipment advice, I think I can actually hold off on taking True Crystal Install for a little while, so I think I'll jump for that tasty, tasty «Spirit-Controlled Rush» instead. Hot diggity, I get to shuffle around spirit dice right before I attack! That makes using Force Strike way easier.

Dash Guard is probably going to be the level 4 talent, since a 10 foot charge that ignores engagements makes it much more usable. Second Stage Transformation might have to wait a bit, sadly, in favor of Specialized Arts (Guard).

As for equipment, current plan (thanks to you) is to buy Dragonscale for 10,000g (selling the breastplate for 1000 back). With 3100 left, I might either jump for the Rocket Boots, or pawn off a few materials collected from past battles for enough money to buy that Shield Saw. Eventual goal is to buy the Bar, or something better.

Quick question: where does it say that the Jet Boots give +2 squares to your Combat Move on top of the initiative? I remember it being mentioned before, but I've been looking everywhere with no results. I'll repeat that I might just be an idiot.
>>
>>56844533
>buy Dragonscale for 10,000g (selling the breastplate for 1000 back). With 3100 left, I might either jump for the Rocket Boots, or pawn off a few materials collected from past battles for enough money to buy that Shield Saw. Eventual goal is to buy the Bar, or something better.
Where do you guys buy all this shit from?
>>
>>56844533
To put it simply, its in the wording.

Jet Shoes
Slot : Feet
Cost : 2,000G
High-tech shoes equipped with a spirit energy propulsion function.
While [Equipped], gain a +2 modifier to {Initiative} and to the [Speed] of [Combat Moves].

Even should this be mistranslated to one degree or another, it still clearly mentions the speed of combat moves, something it doesn't need to do if there is no direct effect on them. Increasing initiative, by itself, increases ones speed. Saying anything past that would imply a further effect.

As for the bar like thing, i still think the hammers a better go to, but i gotta admit i like the idea of smackin people with a crowbar. Whichever way, it'll be fun. As for materials, thats not a bad idea. I'd keep ones you'd specifically want to use for synthesis but sell off the others. Since 1 trade cost for effects is equivalent to 500 gold, there's actually no loss in conversion since the actual cost for materials is proportional to their trade value for additional effects.

>>56844570
Do you mean in game? Because then i'd say from a merchant. If you mean where are we seeing this shit at all, expansions.

Steve, the interdimensional shopkeeper that's a running gag/recurring character in our games.

More seriously, since Steve isn't actually in this campaign in particular, mostly these three. The one on the left is Thermo Syfri; he's the city's top weaponsmith, even makes stuff for the king. Has a leyline underneath his shop that can be used to reforge even Godforged Regalia. The middle one is Exaire Dimiourgus, or Dimi. She's a cyborg (which in Haxia is a soul tied to a suit of armor) that the party doesn't like because she once asked if Ruth was for sale when we first met her. Best armorsmith around, even made the king's regalia. Once invited Hayate inside her. Very awkward for everyone involved. The one on the right is Thi Vo Hihn, who is a tinker that makes magic accessories and is the only demoneye we've met that isn't part of the Korefuta clan. Can see auras like all demoneyes, and has a habit of blinding herself by accidentally looking at Hayate without her goggles on.

Not much of a story to tell, sorry to disappoint. I just looked back at the rules, and realized I may have screwed up a little in something ,so I'm going to ask here for confirmation.

When one trades out a talent, it's as if said talent was gained at that same level, so unlike in say, D&D, a character cannot "trade up" to talents they just gained access to by level increase.

Retraining a talent gained at level 2 must be into another talent the character could have gained at level 2, and not into a talent that requires they be level 3+, correct?
>>
>>56850744
That is indeed correct.

Thats why my advice to ruth anon was in such a specific order for trading
>>
>>56850956
Thought so. I'll have to fix a few things on my own sheet then.

Not coincidentally, any suggestions for talents on Elder Mage A/Dragon Carrier B? Race is Magus, if it matters much. Character's level 3 and the obvious level 3 talent is Attack Magic Expert, but the earlier ones I'm less sure about.
>>
>>56851171
Well, those two are so different, i'll need a bit more information on what exactly you want to do.

Also, what talents you have at all. Thats a total of 6 talents including racials, so that can mean a lot of variation, and some things have upgrades while others don't.

Also, if this thread dies before i actually fully get to your advice, i'll get it in the next thread. I gotta go to work in a little while here, so i may not get to it before we hit bump limit.

>>56851937
Arm guards are a good start. Best "Unarmed" weapon in the game so far. You can find em in expac 1, under Form: Hammer.

How you make it into a monster from there depends on your other style and race.
>>
>>56852005
See, what I figured was, to get all the 6s for Heaven and Earth or other God Hand A things, I'd use Legacy User A's Overflow and Spirit Die modification stuff plus the [Anti-Demon God Driver]. Being a Human, I'd also have Spirit Control to modify my die when necessary. Maybe I'll retrain some stuff, when I get Inner Heaven, and all.
>>
>>56852095
Thats not a bad way to go, honestly. The driver is the actual best "Unarmed" weapon in the game, but since it requires a specific style i didn't mention it.

Gimme a minute to look at the two styles and see what synergy i can find.
>>
>>56851618
Sure. Character concept's a magical girl of sorts, with the intent to go Nanoha-style WMD girl. The Dragon Carrier side is one part for actual transformation, one part to stack defenses to avoid dying or support the party with a second tank.

Talents, as-of level 3 (well, minus the illegal replacement talent):
Healing Magic
Noble Magic
Grand Spell Invocation
Crystal Install
Crystal Guard
Crystal Shoot (toss-up between this and magic missile, really)
Attack Magic Expert

Sometimes I do wonder if going human just for some of their solid spirit-fixing talents would've been better, but Magus has more interesting options overall.

Gear so far is a spirit belt, spirit wrist, sage's hairpin, and a Focus for a magical weapon.
>>
>>56852095
Okay, here's what i have concerning talents. This is all stuff that doesn't say "once per session" or "Once per combat" to give the most consistent boosts in raw strength, with the exception of moment of hope, and sublime etherlight/Regalia awakening.

God hand talents
Expac 1:
>Smiting wave 1
>Hundred strikes art 2
>Inner heaven 3
Expac 5:

>One with heaven and earth 4

Legacy user talents

>Spirit inversion 1
>Army crusher regalia 6
>Overflowing spirit 7

Expac 5
>Spirit replenish 8

>Level 5 high talent should be Continuous action (Core), Additional dragons veins, Or Specialized arts
>level 10 high talent is forced into a choice of Quickening (More spirit die), Style ultimate (Gain an ultimate from sub style, or main if you want), or style growth (Acquire a new style)
>If you choose style ultimate rather than quickening or style growth, recommended to take Regalia awakening (Legacy user A) which doubles your weapons damage when used with "Sublime etherlight

Racial (you will have 4 by level 10)
>Spirit control
>Hidden talent (Use to take 3 non-marked talents at level 1, So Smiting wave, Fa jing, and Spirit inversion)
>Moment of hope (Never know when you'll need a free overflow)
>Adaptive capabilities (at level 10

What i basically did was choose the attack in god hunter i thought was strongest, and that doesn't break your godforged regalia, and tried to stack as much as i could on top of it, with various spirit fixers, damage increases, and cost reductions. If my math on this is right, you should be able to get all of this by level 8 or so, and can focus on more non-traditional methods of increasing your damage from there. My advice for level 10 is more or less ignorable, but you don't get a lot of choice in it anyways.

And like i said to ruth anon, you are free to take this advice or leave it. You might find something better, or may just want to do something different. Maybe you are more willing to use 1/combat talents than i am.

Okay, so for your racial talents, i would replace Healing magic for "Personal defensive style" in expac 4. It can be used more often, doesn't cost anything, and will likely save you more health in the long run than healing would. As a result, stocking up a bit on barrier over armor may be a good idea.

For your General talents You are looking more or less good. Grand spell invocation is your big gun, and the biggest bonus' to it are your ultimates from the core book. I'd keep crystal shoot since it uses different dice, so you can keep up consistent damage. Eventually, i'd look into picking up your second core ulti and concept materialization, so you can outright nuke the battlefield.

For weapons, i'd look ahead and save up for Tyrants bag from expac 1 or Ghostly hero from Expac 3. Both are solid, and don't slow you down.

As for general advice, instead of trying to get rank of magical damage, which is much harder than physical, aim to get higher MD. Its a consistent upgrade, easier to come by, and doesn't rely on RNG.

Wait, i'm dumb. You can't get personal defensive till level 5 anyways. So keep healing and get personal defensive at level 5.

>The society is functioning at 72% and the boys in the lab (by which she means Boskonovich and Masamune) but they still had a problem wherein they have to stop the problem at it's source.

This sentence is a bit confusing.

I'm guessing it's supposed to say.

The society is functioning at 72%.
In the head office sits the Wicked Witch with her legs up on Goezome's desk.
Dorothy says that according to boys in the lab (Boskonovich and Masamune) Ciero has tapped into a considerable source of magical power and will continue to be a threat until they are pushed off of it.

Is that right Kansainon?

The thread is autosaging.

Is starting a new one a good idea?

Sounds good to me. We were usually supposed to start a new one yesterday, but we're getting a shocking amount of activity lately so last week's thread(s) sorta spilled over.

Is their a good way to do a hyper mobile support character in this game?

Jet Shoes, anon. Not Jet Boots.
Don't worry you aren't the first person to get that mixed up, even in this very thread.

Personal defensive style is definitely solid, yeah. Healing magic is likely to just be a small but useful heal for overall party support, as it only costs a single die of any sort with Attack Magic Expert.

For the rest, yeah, definitely about stacking more damage from sources other than ranks, as ranks can be nice, but in the long run, adding a static number will tend to win out.

Anons telling stories about their games, helping each other understand and master game mechanics, introducing each other to the game itself, and organizing new campaigns. Everyone's getting along. For a single golden moment, this thread has been everything the other generals want to be.

And I forgot part of my purpose in this discussion. Which was I fucked up my rules interpretations and so had a talent I shouldn't have.

So, looking at things to draw back to being a proper character, I've got my eye on Instant Ritual, Alter Mass (mostly to chain into Gravity Control from expac 5; the ability to use all the magic attacks after movement will be incredibly useful), or from the Dragon Carrier side, either Ethereal Shield or Guard. The party has another dragon Carrier B with Guard ,but eventually having both characters able to tank seems appropriate.
