/tg/ - Traditional Games

Hey everyone! Let's talk about one of the better settings that /tg/ has come up with! CATastrophe, the water-logged land of diving, beaches, boats, sunbathing, and so on and so forth. I'll start with a relevant image dump and then make a small announcement when I'm done.

On the other hand, if any of you have similar art to contribute, or stories about any games you had in the CATastrophe setting, or if you were one of the originators of the idea, post here!

It's literally just catgirls and beaches...

Looks like it could be a cool setting if it wern't just a half-assed excuse for fur shit in swimsuits.

Too bad it's exactly that.

but that's wrong.

Also, primary points of the setting are adventures on the high sea, buckling the swashes and diving into flooded high-tech ruins to punch robots in the face.

In other words Waterworld, but without all the suck and with catgirls as high (as fuck) concept.

Besides, it's nice to see post-apocalyptica as an endless blue rather than an endless desert, no? With catgirls, no less.

And now for the little announcement:

I decided to work on an nWoD conversion for CATastrophe. Actually, it would be more correct that I am using the Storyteller system instead, as CATastrophe doesn't mesh will with the ideas of the World of Darkness. The reason why I am doing this is that FATE is an awful system IMO, and that CATastrophe would benefit from a) a resurgence of interest, and b) a better system so that people can play it.

The link will be at the end of the post. I have enabled commenting, so go ahead and post comments and critiques or whatever! I will most likely at least read them, if not necessarily follow them.

Well, when I say splat, that's technically wrong. It's not gonna be called something like Catastrophe: the Survivening. But it does have 5 "races," 5 "classes," a Morality metric (called Adventure)... y'know what. Let me post the common terms glossary, as that might clear some stuff up.

I'm running a PF E6 game with all 4 players playing Catfolk in an Asian setting.
It's pretty much this in a different time.
>>
>>57245043
>Magic
Eeeeeh, i'm on the fence about that (and in original threads i was the one to suggest magic reappearing, funnily enough). CATastrophe just doesn't go with supernatural well enough. Something like nanomachines (son) would be fine, and with enough technobabble you could justify anything "magical" with them.
>>
>>57245072

And here's the best part, the Magic part is going to be entirely optional. It's a module that you can cut out of the game and it won't suffer for it.

Though, I am curious to hear any more stories from the original threads.
>>
What kind of "plots" do you even play in a setting like this? It honestly looks like a world where everyone is happy and surviving fine already. There doesn't really appear to be a need to save anyone, no real survival element, no real threats to the world... it's post apocalypse with nothing that makes post-apocalypse settings interesting or engaging.
>>
>>57245163
underwater dungeon crawling is my first thought.
>>
>>57245163

And that's why I'm adapting a more "high-seas adventure" feel to it. Thing more like Age of Sail. There's pirates and shit! Communities threatened by marauding raiders! Deep One kidnapping children going to school! An underwater volcano eruption thrust out a new landmass with a bunch of Earless ruins on it, watched over by Oldguard.

Honestly, where there's a will, there's a way. No RPG really makes sense, because adventuring doesn't make sense in general.
>>
>>57245182
Yeah, but they're not "dungeons"... they're just ruins of old human cities. What are you seeking out? Food? Medicine? Weapons? Again, this doesn't seem like the kind of setting with gritty post-apocalypse survival where a bottle of anti-biotics is worth killing someone over. And what traps are you gonna face in the "dungeon"? What "enemies". Thy're not DnD dungeons. They're empty buildings.

I dunno, maybe I'm just uncreative but I can't wrap my head around how to make any kind of plot out of this. The world is cool and all, but there's just no reason to "adventure" in it.

Well, all threads are archived on 1d4, but that's a lot of sh... stuff to wade through. Holy wars about what should and should not be in the setting, The Great Catboy Dispute Of 20XX, HFY fags demanding to be taken seriously...

Good times, good times.

Anyway, the way i envisioned magic was more subtle, something between japanese tsukumogami myth (discarded items gaining sentience) and Glorantha spirit quest stuff.

With discarded items there was a great deal of ambiguity - sure, humans were advanced so it's not unusual that even old coffee machine has its own AI, but... is that a mecha-broom or is it just moving on its own? There aren't any mechanical details, visible, at least.
Spirit quests were designed as a way to visit the past by reaching to "memory" of old objects and possibly finding answers to why humans disappeared. This might be done either through special devices recovered from earless ruins OR through burning the sacred herbs. The result is Inception - like journey on even more drugs (sometimes literally), a surrealistic and S Y M B O L I C insight into the past of the planet.

I scrapped it because it didn't mesh too well with the overall feel of the setting, so now CATastrophe (at least mine version) is soft sci-fi only.
>>
>>57245203

On that note, I am introducing three major types of antagonists:

Sea Beasts and Oldguard. That's bog standard. Killer robots and giant monsters that guard interesting places.

Ferals. Inheritors gone BAD. Pirates, slavers, raiders, infiltrators, and so on. Can be brutes and overt, or subtle and conniving. Generally, they'll have similar training to the PCs/Crew. Sometimes they'll even have their own Settlements.

Deep Ones. Yeah, from Lovecraft. Cthulhu is not actually a thing and turned out to be a myth. And because the various Inheritors are no longer humans, the Deep Ones are faced with a demographic crisis - they can no longer breed. So, in that case, why DO they still kidnap Inheritors? Why do they also go down into Earless ruins? Why do they still raise their monoliths and then tear them down the next night? These guys are supposed to be weird and mysterious, though under some circumstances, they could be reasoned with.
>>
>>57245163
It's good for that "heartwarming roleplaying" thing that you never see in western games i guess. Kinda like:
>The appeal, the catharsis of completing a story in Golden Sky Stories is that you work towards fnding a way to make people happy. And it should be possible to make everyone happy.
>What you gain from telling such small stories is intimacy. Your henge, and the handful of people they meet, can all become good friends, and that’s the main thing you’re there to do
>There’s no need to put henge into desperate situations where they have to fght for everything they hold dear. That’s some other game. You don’t need a “conflict” per se, so much as a “wrinkle” that the henge can help straighten out.
>While the henge can solve problems, a lot of the time what they do is more to nudge people in the right direction and make things work out better and sooner.
>>
>>57245219

Hmm. I have it done in a way that is more similar to a whole bunch of sci-fi stories I have read. The magic never really left, but it was inacessible due to the low mana levels. However, the massive dying off of humans caused the available mana to surge, meaning that some people with the mind to study it, can learn it.

I based it off of Koldunic Magic from oWoD, because I felt that elemental magic would be a nice fit for the more primal feeling of CATastrophe. I also feel that while it can be powerful, a lone mage is only as powerful as a ship cannon. Furthermore, all the magic abilities have some equivalent in the base classes or ship mechanics. So I feel like it's fairly balanced.

Honestly, I can just cross of the word "magic" and write "psychic elementalism" and it would end up being the same thing. Or just remove it altogether, and there won't be much missing.
>>
>>57245291

I dunno, my players felt VERY fulfilled when we finished a 2 years PF-then-5e pony campaign. They saved the world, managed to save most of their NPC friends, achieved a lot of personal goals. So it was a mix of both big stuff success and little stuff success. I agree that not everything needs to be "high stakes save the world" kind of thing, but at the same time, if the stakes are too low, or the outcome is minor, then why do anything?

Which is why the Morality stat of Adventure exists. Keep doing boring shit, and you fade into the background, your Legend points don't do as much, and eventually you become so boring that you fade into the background completely, becoming an NPC.
>>
>>57245314
I am so glad the poster number went up with this post...
>>
>>57245291
I mean... I guess, but that honestly just sounds like an episode of a children's cartoon, in a world where NPCs are utterly incapable of solving basic problems on their own like functional adults.

I don't see the appeal. I like the plot arc of regular people rising up to meet serious challenges... but if the challenges are "oh, we're having a bad day", what's the fucking point? It's not "heartwarming" or "intimate", it's shallow and forgettable. I could hop on a chatroom on Deviantart if I wanted to play slice-of-life house-simulator with catgirls, or watch one of the million slice-of-life anime that exist. Just because it's cute to watch doesn't mean it's compelling to play though.

>ruins of old human cities
High-tech ruins, full of unmaintained machinery and old-ass robots who, over the years of isolation, went completely bonkers. If that's not a setup for a dungeon crawl, then I don't know what is.

Also, I'm actually the Ryuutama CATastrophe dev guy, and overall feel of Ryuutama is perfect, both in tone (less "Let's save the world from an evil lich" and more "let's have a REALLY cool journey across the continent") and level of danger (forget being just barely hurt after falling from 10m cliff, in Ryuutama terrain can be as, if not more, dangerous as monsters).

Personally i would do it in episodic "show" format - party travels to new town, arrives there, uncovers mystery/solves problem, optionally deals another round of punches to the Recurring Villain Trio and moves on to the next town/adventure.
>>
>>57245362

Which is why you introduce adversaries, but don't really have these adversaries go lethal unless absolutely necessary. And, like, Rule 1 of DMing - don't make player failure be unrecoverable from. In an nWoD crossover game I had, the players fucked up a mafia situation. They went down to the Don, were very respectful, defused the situation with the vampire ancilla, and while they didn't resolve the plot to their utmost satisfaction, they had to settle with a truce instead. Not the best ending, but a good ending.
>>
>>57245375

Please provide more context. Most of my regular playgroup are disgusting weaboos, so this might be up their alley. Who's this Ryuutama dev guy and why is there no links to his shit in the wiki?

>What are you seeking out?
Secrets of the past, advanced tech, old manuals, information on how the world got to where it is today, stuff like that. Inspiration can be found in post-apocalyptic works where the world has advanced far enough that everything's recovered, but signs of the old world still remain in the form of machinery and environmental scars.
>>
>>57245314
>then why do anything?
Because you are supposed to fill warm and fuzzy inside from taking imaginary newbie catgirl to the nearby diving post to chose her first Aqualung.
If you don't, you don't. can't be helped.
As for stakes, If your know that stakes only go so far, it feels just as real as any epic adventure.

>>57245362
>in a world where NPCs are utterly incapable of solving basic problems on their own like functional adults.
It's funny because in the example scenario in golden skies stories it even says that situation probably will get resolved even without PCs interfering at all, you just make it go a bit more smooth and faster
>It's not "heartwarming" or "intimate", it's shallow and forgettable
Opinion
>>
>>57245406
Considering everything has been under water for 200 years, you're probably not bringing back anything useful...
>>
>>57245441

I can certainly see HOW it can be fun, but two things need to happen. One is that the entire playgroup has to be in agreement that this is the kind of thing they want to do. The other thing is that the NPC has to be important enough to the group. And that kind of thing can happen in D&D too. In fact, in another group where I was a player, we have a kid that tags along with us on our adventure - and we're having fun roleplaying his dysfunctional adventurer mentors. But at the same time, one of our characters cuts off the faces of his foes, casts Gentle Repose on them, and adds them to his Facebook. Because as he explained, there's NPCs he cares for and NPCS he doesn't.

Which makes sense. I haven't played the game you mentioned, so I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I doubt most people will just care about some random-ass NPC picking out her first new diving gear. On the other hand, if it's the friendly daughter of the bar owner who the PCs liked, then maybe it would be a different story.

Maybe Golden Sky Stories is going too far, but from the top of my hand the hooks i can come up with:

>The town's power station is overtaken by electrolotl swarm and the whole city is depowered. Your comfy stay for the night is threatened, are you bad enough dudes to help townsfolk drive off the energy-eating menace?

>The town is having a problem with pirates who uncovered and reprogrammed a giant robot, so nobody can really oppose them. However, the crazy old man on the outskirts of the village is rambling something about second robot hidden in the nearby Earless complex...

>The party arrives to the town in mountainous region and find out that the local lumberjacks are hiring adventurers to help them with floating timber down the mountain stream.

>The party comes upon a lone farm in the wilderness - curiously enough, it's maintained not by kemonomimi, but by a lone android who didn't went mad during all the years of isolation. He invites the party, but can you really trust him? And why is he working so diligently, as if the owners of the farm were still there? And what to do with that discovery?

>The party is participating in worldwide chef/wrestling/fishing/music/whatever contest and must beat 8 champions before going for the title of Grand Champions of Whatever. Good for overarching goal and can work together with previous adventures - in true pokemon fashion each champion of Whatever refuses to test them until current situation is resolved

>The party is chasing a legend of a giant undersea monstrosity, old as history itself. Whether for vanity or for more pragmatic reasons (maybe there's some miraculous kelp growing on its back, for example).

>Standard "loot dungeons, get rich" scheme, only with robots, sea beasts and occasional superadvanced nanomachine construct nagging them to do something mysterious and possibly dangerous.
>>
>>57245511

I can add more. Also, nice Gravity Falls reference.

>Earthquake shifts Earless ruin closer to the surface, so that it's now reachable in a single dive.

>A particularly charismatic pirate is gathering other pirates to their flag. They talk about starting a perfect anarcho-capitalistic commune, but you know better.

>A far-flung settlement has radioed a distress call - they hydroponics bay is fucked. You have the only ship that can get there in time. Problem is, that place is infested with <insert danger here>.

>Deep One activity has tripled in the past month near a particular Earless ruin that used to be a museum warehouse.

>The Great Race is upon you. Are you willing to enter your ship against all other Settlements? Are you gonna do this fairly, or what the judges don't know can't hurt it? And what about that Dick Dastardly android as well as his attractive dog-girl sidekick Muttleah?
>>
>>57245498

To be fair, the dude came up with the concept to aid his disguise check first. He then realized that he had 3 blank spellbooks, and Gentle Repose is a ritual. The pun wrote itself. He's now working on some kind of horrible necromantic thing to make them sentient or something.
>>
>>57245476
Well yeah, that type of a game is certainly a niche. Though as for player buy-in, if they knowingly agreed to play a system dedicated to exactly that, i would expect them to be exited to do just that.
And I'm not saying you only allowed to play in this setting like that, just thought it can probably accommodate well for this kind of game. Ryuutama with boats and scuba probably fits it better anyway.

Because i didn't upload it yet. Still have to hammer out magic (i mean, nanomachines), item and monster list

Ryuutama is an RPG that's most commonly referred to as "Hayao Miyazaki's Oregon Trail" and the description fits perfectly. It takes place in a loosely-defined european-ish setting where people get suddenly struck with wanderlust, leave their homes to friends/relatives and set off onto a journey. It is overseen by four dragons who need stories of adventure as sustenance.

It is the only RPG wholly focusing on actual "travelling" part of hexcrawl. With much lower power level, your main obstacles would be not dragons and liches (though both exist!), but the land itself - dry and hot deserts, gurgly, glumpy, florpy (and other unsigthly sounds) boot-eating swamps, high mountains and blazing volcanoes, plus an occasional peaceful idyllic hamlet begging for you to set your travelling staff aside and settle down there (the comfiness, my worst enemy! Arrgh!). Plus gravity. In a game of Ryuutama we played i fell down from the high places so much, it became a running joke (and led to my character always trundling along the path wrapped up like a mummy on the Bad Gauze Day).

TL;DR - it's an RPG about that one REALLY cool camping trip you had, but with more magic, monsters and spoopy stuff (which is not a part of aforementioned two anyways). Highly recommended by me, a random faggot on the internet.

When I say "races," I am referring to the internal ones to a splat. So in Mage, you have the 5 races of "Acanthus, Mastigos, Moros, Obrimos, Thyrsus" and the 5 classes of "Adamantine Arrow, Free Council, Guardian of the Veil, Mysterium, Silver Ladder."

Or how in Vampire, you have the 5 "races": "Daeva, Gangrel, Mekhet, Nosferatu, and Ventrue;" and then the 5 "classes": Carthian, Circle, Invictus, Lancea, Ordo.

Huh, then that should affect skull structure. Cats IRL have outer ear cannals that connect their ears to the side of their skull. Human skulls can't acommodate these tubes, which should lead to structural problems for catgirls.

I'm developing my own One page system for this, mostly need to rewrite my first draft of the system and then collate lore.

To me CATastrophe was taking a break from D&D, Dark Heresy, and so on. I don't WANT vancian casting systems or MP. At most I want an item that does something cool like a malfunctioning nanomachine factory that can spit out everything you need to survive but its all drab grey.

So instead of pushing nanomachines I suggest you push artifacts or weird plants and animals as well.

The difference of inner ear position between humans and cats isn't that different ,though. So unless you do some weird anatomic shit like in >>57246246 that makes the skull much brittler, you need to create a layer of tissue over the tissue to acommodate the outer channels.

Where can I get the pdf and more catgirl art
>>
>>57246262
Oh, of course. Nanomachines are just a way of keeping some of Ryuutama-ish magic (even though spell list got reworked a whole lot). The beauty of Ryuutama magic is that it doesn't really do anything you cannot accomplish by yourself with some simple items (except for maybe high level magic, and it got cut the most). Artifacts and weird earless stuff takes center stage still.

I also made a character class able to invent gizmos replicating the effects of spells. Inventor/eartaku needs some testing, but i don't feel he's that overpowered (he needs a LOT of money for his spells)

The way i did it, individual "programs" come in containers with nanopaste that has to be assimilated by user, so there could be humt for these "spells" too (either to learn them or to sell them for some serious neo-shekels, the nanopaste cannot be reproduced).

That's precisely why there's always racial bloat - you have team of people, each of whom makes a pass for one thing, who together then allow multiple things, at which point it seems harmless to add "one more thing" or "ten more things".

>>57245975
WoD games are built around "what if every type of modern fantasy creature depicted in fiction that people would want to emulate was true simultaneously?", NWOD basically realised that you can, with 5 clans and 5 factions produce 25 different kinds of vampire (whereas cWoD only really had the clans for fewer types of vampires and had the sects as "good, bad & ugly" storytelling/meta-plot devices) which isn't a thing a CATastrophe Storyteller system should worry about as much.

You are, to some extent, right to question "what *function* do these various species provide to the game", but then that raises the question of what the point of the game is?
Ultimately the game should just be cats because they're in the name. No wan wans, no awoo, certainly no squeekers.

Or maybe a better way of putting it is: if a CATastrophe game doesn't work with only catgirls then it won't work with smelly doggos and other species.

the lines are above water because the grid was laid after the island it reaches was settled, and it was cheaper to use above-ground poles than to lay underwater cable because third world.

So this thread makes me want to run a game, but I also have the urge for some sort of skyworld instead of waterworld. Perhaps slightly more technomagic in flavor, full of floating islands, blimps, planes, impossible bridges and pockets of weird gravity. Some islands clearly have a top and bottom, others are like microplanets with buildings on every surface. There is no known "land" underneath all of this, just more sky in all directions. Sky pirates, flying leviathans and ancient guardians defending caches of supplies and technology make up the threats of this world. And falling. Really, really try to avoid that, it's a long way to anything if you fall.

>>
>>57248375

I'm avoiding racial bloat because I am literally the sole person designing and implementing this. Some of my group is providing feedback, and they're the reason I have nagas instead of tree girls, which was my first idea.

As to your second point, what does it mean the game "ultimately" should be? That's a foolish and loaded statement. By that definition D&D should be JUST dungeons that are populated by dragons or dragons that are dungeons. Hell, you wouldn't even have the classic fantasy races.

Purism is generally pointless. In the case of the 5 races of CATastrophe as according to me, you got:

>Kemomimi with an affinity towards land
>Sirens with an affinity towards water
>Andies with an affinity towards cities.
>Nagas with an affinity towards trees.
>Aves with an affinity towards the skies.

Likewise, the 5 Schools or "classes" also have a defined role:

>Swashbucker for combat
>Director for social stuff
>Rover for science stuff
>Rustler for sneaky stuff
>Commodore for vehicle stuff

Which gives us a massive matrix to work with AND keeps the spirit of CATastrophe intact. Because if you can have animal-eared girls, why not any of the other ones?
>>

While the second option might sound tempting I'm pretty sure that what I want is to build a collection of sky island based factions, monsters, lost relics, dungeons and fleets, then send a party out to explore. Somewhat freeform, might work out an overarching plotline later. Have to figure out a system though, most of my group are diehard d20 fans and I really don't think that has the right mechanics for such a game.

It's a consequence of how /tg/ and creating shit collaboratively on it works. Inherent in the medium, as it were. If you try to set up boundaries and limits against this sort of thing you look grumpy and "no fun allowed" and people's enthusiasm get sapped (because they're low-resilience faggots, another consequence of the location), so projects led in this way peter out and go nowhere. In contrast the projects where everyone can shoehorn in his personal snowflake bullshit comparatively flourish because everyone can shoehorn in his personal snowflake bullshit and cater to his particular fetish/daydream. Incidental features of these daydreams are presented in the threads as content and thus material gradually accumulates.

>overall feel of Ryuutama is perfect
Please keep us posted, anon.

How do you do races? I thought it could be a small bonus of +2/-2 on the relevant attributes of each case. Of course, if you take time to develop it, you can also have race-specific skills that add to your class skills.
The nautical aspect of the setting would as well pose some differences from the default Ryutama world. Would it suffice to translate travel checks into sailing checks?
>>
>>57266780
The thing is, +2 is a HUGE bonus for Ryuutama (hardcap on any possible bonuses to a roll is at +3).

I was thinking to not assign any mechanical benefits to different races, but to instead list some common stereotypes. But if i could do bonuses that are equally universal, desirable and not very significant to certain classes, i would probably do that. I know nekogoblins from christmas update have special skills, but they pay for it with lower base stats, so i'm gonna need to balance that stuff.

Nautical aspect is easy - there's a rough draft of first expansion (which deals with travel by vehicles and ships) already on the internet and on Ryuutama subreddit there are stats for common ships (easily convertable for more modern world).

Also, the CATastrophe book will also contain something usable for vanilla Ryuutama - combat alterations that will hopefully make it less boring (combat is definitely a weak point of the system, even though it's not really made for EPIC CONFRONTATIONS OF EPICNESS). Expanded base actions, some mechanical stuff for combat types (aka weeaboo fightan magic), ability to do silly stuff with turn economy, more sophisticated bestiary... It all will either make combat better or make it a mess, so i must test it a bit.

Mad Max, which takes place in australia presumably and was filmed in the outback and which is kind of a shithole over all.

Fallout 1 and 2 played with that but took place in california which is, again, mostly a desert shithole.

A lot of people notice the desert but fail to understand the context.

People in CATastrophe are 90% human, 10% cat. There is some cat-avistic behavior, but it's generally not that pronounced.
>>
>>57268212
While that is true on a visual level anime catgirls ALWYAS act in 100% cat manner for comedic purposes. Going nuts over fishies, stepping on their tails, craving small furry anythings (especially for lesbianic purposes), and so on. You might as well say that wolf girls don't awoo at hte moon.

Ahkshully, cats generally love water so long as they've been raised with it. Big cats love to soak and swim, for example.
>>
>>57268745
If we're being honest then cat girls are NEVER big cats, except in their dreams of the hunt, same as all dogs dream of running in packs and howling at the moon. Cat girls being mostly human are all very much domestic cats. Stands to reason. They WILL spit and hiss at water, especially if someone chases them with the spray bottle. They will claw you up if it's their bath time and be miserable in the rain. The only time they like it is if it's a hot springs episode.
>>
>>57268907

As someone who dislikes that trope, i am glad that it's not the part of CATastrophe. I mean, sometimes when it makes sense it's fine to go with reaction like that, but in general "lol this is funny because he/she is a cat" jokes should be kept to reasonable minimum.

I imagine something like Megaman Legends.

People are mostly living comfortably.
On the surface, pirates are the biggest threat. But even the pirates tend to be more troublemakers than an actual threat. They steal and break stuff, but they don't harm or kill people.

Beneath the surface is lots of valuable ancient technologies and mysteries. But it's also inhabited by evil robots and dangerous sea creatures.

Big "threats to the world" might arise if the players delve to deep and awaken some ancient nuclear AI or mutant hellbeast.

I think the nice thing about a "comfy" setting is that it can easily respond to the players and give them what they're looking for. They can just travel around to different towns, solve mundane problems, and make people happy. They can go treasure-hunting in the ruins, and have light-hearted fights with pirates and rival adventurers. Or they can dive deep into the abyss in search of the terrible secrets of the past and their own existence.

Wow, son, how have you never in your life noticed that it's a commonly held belief that cats hate water? Now you can argue whether or not there is merit to this belief, and that's fine, but you shouldn't be surprised if people have this perception/misconception. It even has an entry on the tvtropes and you know 4chan loves itself some tvtropes!

These any many more examples are freely available to you on a simple google search:

Can you guys just stop?

We all know some cats dislike water.

We all ALSO know that this is a sci-fi setting with people in it able to at least repair and maintain high tech machinery, so it's obvious they won't act like dumb instinct-driven animals most of the time.

If you REALLY want your dose of "lmao it's a cat", i hereby rule it out that diving by your own volition is fine, but getting suddenly thrown into water is very distressing. Here, done.

Pro-tip: we aren't talking about actual cats, we're talking about anime cat girls. Something that runs into its own cliches, among the most potent of which is that they tend to not only typify cat behavior (even behavior that is a common belief but isn't necessarily real) but turn the dial up to 11 for comedic effect.

The humorous thing is looking back to the post that started us down on stupid trip, it appears to simply be nothing more than a harmless joke playing to the common belief that cats hate water.

The thing is you have to understand that a cat objects to water because it's cold, not because it's wet, and a cat obviously does not care even about that if it gets a fish as a result of getting wet.

in a quasi tropical heat the water is cool, not cold, and catgirls are okay with diving for the same reason the players want their PC's to dive; because there's shinies and fish to grab.

Never played the game, I'll probably never get my group to agree to something like it, but I do like these threads for the images (though frankly if you've been in one of these threads before you've probably seen the vast majority of the art). Chrono Cross. Tropical water setting, primitive peoples but you can explore two flavors of ancient magical cities, the ancient stone ruins of the Dragons and the time-displaced high-tech city of Chronopolis whose inhabitants are techno-magic ghosts caught at the point of the crisis that destroyed them and their city. Overall the plot is a bit of a mess and the cast is fucknormous to the point of you'll probably never to bother to use 70% of them.
>>
>>57277825
You know cat ear holes and human ear holes are both on the sides of the head right. The "ear" part that sticks up on a cat/out on a human is just cartilage, it just grows differently.

Pretty sure he's talking about the version in OP's pic, where they stick up from the top of the head like alien antenna. Which, yeah, is pretty weird. Probably why sometimes it's just stylistic hair bumps.

This topic reminds me of the 2011 Thundercats reboot. Piece of shit storywise after some initial decent worldbuilding, but the designs were generally not bad. Most of them had elf style ears with those having more beastly ears, like the Thunderkittens, being considered low caste freaks. And Wilykit actually pulling her ears into her topknot bit.

The Big Blue Hole is a sinkhole 1000 meters across. Soundings have estimated it's depths at 20000 meters. This is far deeper than a normal sinkhole and even deeper than the surrounding ocean floor. The Big Blue Hole is widely regarded to have been artificially created after the sea was raised but by who, how, or why is a mystery. The Hole produces a tremendous warm upwelling of nutrient laden water that results in a massive amount of sea life. Many species are unique to this location only. As if that wasn't enough to attract divers there is a massive amount of shinies present in what seem to be tombs. Unlike Earless burial sites found elsewhere that were buried horizontally along the ground these seem to have been buried vertically along the walls of the hole. Retrieving these shinies is made more difficult by various species of aquatic life that are very aggressive. It is unknown what lies at the very bottom of the hole and how the upwelling is being produced. A specialized submarine would be needed to reach those depths.

Japari Park is an island populated by all kinds of Kemomimi. For reasons not yet understood those who live there soon lose their long term memories. (drugs in the food? Earless nanotechnology? aliens?) It is generally peaceful with it's residents cared for by Earless machines. There are rumors that Kemomimi who want to forget their past choose to live there. Some say there is a notorious criminal who wanted to make a fresh start. Adventurers landing on the island should be careful or else they lose their memories and become a permanent resident. The island itself is divided into artificially maintained biomes and is structured like a large safari park. Beside the wild animals visitors should also be careful of "Ceruleans" which seem to be rogue Earless machines.
