Previous Thread: >>57519826

Last time:
>Additional rules for round robin GMing and seeing through cover were translated. Yet to be put in pastebin proper.

>Royalteared pastebin functionally dead, Ported over to homebrew anon and removed from thread start

Today's question: What kind of strange esoteric themes do you want to make characters based around?

Kamigakari is a JTTRPG focused on episodic storytelling, with simple but tight mechanics.

Its design goal is to start players spread out, getting involved with the episode's peculiarities, and eventually coming together to fight a big bad, A la tokusatsu shows, magical girl shows, and/or other such shows in that vein.

TL;DR, Its a Monster of the Week Format game with an emphasis in the fluff on high power shenanigans of just about every type.
Remember boys and girls, Japanese schedules suck, so JTTRPGS are optimized toward quick and easy sessions.
That said, they can be adapted for longer ones.

Bookanon here. I'll start scanning things every sunday, given the time, and we'll see how to go about it from there. Machine translation from actual rules seems possible, albeit awkwardly worded, so we may actually be able to blunder through this without need for someone capable of reading japanese proper.

Stay tuned for more on that later.

Anyone capable of storytiming? I know kansaianon isn't able to due to time, but otherwise ruthanon went MIA to my knowledge, and the other guys session didn't happen.

Is the touhou guy all we have?

I've noticed some people have a lot of issue with the character sheet with formula, should i put the other one back in the OP, along with the formula one?
>>
>>57632656
Speaking of, and looking at Kamigakari anons original table of contents, it looks like Expansion 3 has a couple extra rules as well. It seems to be about ignoring item restrictions and changing covers, but one or the other could be interesting, depending on how its handled
>>
>>57632629
If you guys had to choose one series to be a godhunter in, what would it be?
>>
>>57632726
Kamigacompendium anon here, I'll look into what's up with the formulae. Any problems in particular people experience?

While I'm at it...

I'd pick something fairly peaceful desu like Pokemon. I'd take my magic powers and no world-ending evils so I can just fuck around on my own time.
>>
>>57634340
Well, first and foremost there's an extra set of boxes for the strength and accuracy part. Dunno what thats about.

But otherwise, i think its just people being bad with google docs. Pic related
>>
>>57634340
I'd have waited on the godforged regalia honestly. Its all in one spot in one expansion anyways.

Tell you what senpai, I got you. I'll do some post-battle party chatter from the end of Kansainon's last storytime since he ended it a little early. Just a bit though since it's Kansainon's storytime and I don't wanna step on his toes. Starting next post.

Oh god damnit I typed this up in advance then copy/pasted it wrong and deleted a huge chunk out the middle, lemme fix that

Picking up from where last session left off, Shizune had just MIND CRUSHED the will to fight out of the ambigiously gendered Gurei. Ito mopes about losing his points game, Akira checks himself over, sensually, for broken bones and Jagasaki flexes his new arm to testing it regenerated properly. Shizune heads on over to the defeated monster pair and checks them over to Ciero's tramp stamps. As per usual, they're branded into the back of the neck. Gurei makes a few feeble claw swipes at Shizune purely on compulsion from the mark, but it's clear they can't help it.

Shizune works on dispelling the mark, giving Gurei a hard smack on the nose to make him behave. Ren complains that all these snakes, furries, ghosts and and mind slaves make the place stink like a bad visual kei concert. "With no music too, what kind of show is this?" Akira chimes in. The mark bleeds off of Gurei and fades away and the wolfboy collapses. Shizune turns around to Freki, "as for the hot bitch here..."

"I didn't know you thought girls were hot, Shizu-nee."

Shizune chooses to ignore this and dispell the mark. Then un-ignored it by talking to Ren and Jagasaki instead. "So what amusing thing can you two say to get me out of this?" She asks. Jagasaki temporarily looks flustered before repressing it deeply, and Ren simply says, with particular emphsis "Hot." Shizune facepalms.

Gurei and Freki are now collapsed on the floor, completely exhausted. The hellhound laughs a little about how shoddy Ciero's seals are - how can he keep his gig going with this shoddy work? Gurei just shrugs, and reckons they were going to lose from the word go, and hope it was over sooner rather than later. "But you people, do not pull punches."
>>
>>57634460
Might as well determine a general format I want for the Regalia right then and there, while I'm doing all this work.

>>57634414
Roger, I'll attempt to flush out any of this border nonsense and unmerged cells.
>>
>>57635974
Ito is not happy about how Ciero treats his underlings, and loudly announces he will be first in line to kick Ciero's ass. This is ignored by everyone else. Shizune regains her composure and waves off Gurei's comment since, after all they were fighting for their lives so why would they hold back? Jagasaki simply scoffs that his opponents were too weak, he can't be blamed for his overwhelming power. Gurei notices Nanatsume hanging back away from the party, and comments that well, the last time he saw her they were leaving craters in the ground. Nanatsume gives a small nod, confirming this and explaining that Gurei was one of the captains that helped assault the society's base. She's mentions she's rather glad not to have been the one fighting Gurei, this time.

Akira looks between Nanatsume and Gurei, and asks if Nana-chan would like her friend to come along too. Nanatsume says it's not up to her. Shizune cuts across the conversation and gets to the actual important bits - can any of these three tell them about Ciero? Gurei pipes up that he was a "higher ranking captain" than Nanatsume so therefore he knew a little more about Ciero's plans, but not all of it. It seems Ciero is trying to bridge a gap between two worlds, so he can take this one over. He's planning to do so with a ritual called 'Яeset' but Gurei doesn't know what that is. He then changes topic suddenly and asks if Nanatsume "did that thin she tends to do?" Akira looks at him confused, so Freki adds "He means 'did she swear fealty and declare you all her liege lords' that's her thing right?"
>>
>>57635989
Nanatsume suddenly finds herself the subject of a lot of stares and shuffles uncomfortably in place. "Called it" Freki grins. "I think she'd cut her belly open if she didn't have a master to be at their beck and call." Akira gives Nanatsume a look of betrayal, asking if they were just being used so she could get her fix.

"N-No Akira-dono, my masters are not some way to get a cheap thrill, acting as retainers is in my blood and has been for generations"

"And you wouldn't happen to derive the smallest joy from such, would you?" Ren comments

"W-well of course it brings me joy to serve as a blade and servant but it's not that kind of joy okay!"

Ren sighs, deciding that it's probably for the better that he has no idea what's going on.

Ito decides he's about done not being the center of attention, so he marches over and asks what to do with the furballs and whether they will join his gang, although it's not really how he imagined his gang turning out. Ren asks if this gang is a work-in-progress, Akira says Ito's just freewheeling the whole thing, Ito get offended and claims his gang has been operating for years. This is just an expansion mission, by kicking these Ciero minions out of Ito territory, of course. "How Diligent." Ren is unimpressed.

Shizune and Akira take a minute to talk about whether Nanatsume is being sincere, and decide to leave it until later. For now the party has to do something about Gurei and Freki. Gurei is happy to be freed but Freki hates the idea of oweing the party a favour. Gurei talks her down, they DO owe them a life debt now but that doesn't mean needing to wait on everyone hand and foot, like Nanatsume. Ito asks how they're going to hide a couple of monster girl/boys in the middle of Osaka, without looking like some kind of cosplay gang. Shizune waves this off as something easily fixable with a little illusion magic.
>>
>>57636004
Akira gets excited and asks if Shizune is starting a biker gang, she looks at him incredulously and says even if she could afford a motorcycle - and she can't, she has more important things to spend money on - why would she want to start a biker gang? "Why WOULDN'T you want to start a biker gang?" Freki says unhelpfully, "Our only competition is going to be strawberry, a snake with tits smaller than mine and a zombie that'll bow her head to anyone who looks at her nice." This commentary earns Freki an angry glare from Nanatsume.

Ito gets an evil look on his face, and grabs Nanatsume by the shoulder. "Nanatsume-san, you wanna be ordered around right? I got one for you - when we're done here, find Mitsuki a motorcycle. Doesn't matter how."

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT EVEN" Shizune throws her hands up in the air. She's about done here, and starts leaving. "Do what you want, I don't care, let's just go beat the crap out of that Ciero."

"I'll give you fifty points if you can manage not to crash in the first ten minutes!"

The party starts trailing up the stairs after Shizune.

Also, whats this box here for? It doesn't seem to have any use, to my knowledge
>>
>>57640261
for the extra stat point you get at character creation
>>
>>57640269
Does that include the +1 to two stats you get at each level? If so, would it be possible to label that as such? As is, its sort of confusing.
>>
>>57640283
Rather, does it include all not-innate modifiers?

If so, i'd word it like "leveling, Item, and material modifiers"
>>
>>57640309
Item modifiers go in the other modifier box near the bottom, so I've made the name Level/Material Modifiers

Still, the most ironic thing about this situation, is that >>57634414 was done by the same guy that made the original sheet.

hi hi, noobfag here, this RPG looks awesome, a couple questions if it is OK...
1) who publishes it in japan?
2) where can I buy copies of the books? (yeah, I know they will be in Japanese but I still wanna see all the art and shit)
thanks in advance
>>
>>57639309
I was more thinking I could pass the blame off onto a Pokemon if people started asking about my godhunter powers but that's also a neat idea actually. Could almost be one-shot worthy.

>>57640890
I did some googling but can't figure out who publishes it. You can buy them off Amazon.jp though, we have bookanon somewhere in the thread who already did that and is starting to scan the pages >>57632656 so if you hang around long enough we'll (hopefully) have the full scans eventually
>>
>>57640180
Ah, thank you. This will assist me greatly.
>>
What's your favorite talent /kgk/?
>>
>>57640890
Kamigakari is published by Role&Roll magazine in japan, and all 8 of the current books cost a total of 200 Dollars.

If you don't feel like dropping that amount of cash or blundering through the japanese site, i'm currently making scans of the untranslated portions of the books.

I can also do one mainly consisting of art, but that might be a while down the line.
>>
>>57645423
Sacramental Majesty has been super useful for me personally, so Ima go with that
>>
>>57646098
Y'know, i wouldn't call it my favorite, but i will say that humans using those talents have the easiest time of covering for their weaknesses. Those talents are super useful

>>57645423
I can't really say since i've only played one character a total of like, twice, but my favorite so far is definitely Dragon carriers crystal install/Transformation lines. The idea of being some sorta sentai hero is super appealing, both for the power behind it and the ability to get away with wacky shit without breaking suspension of disbelief
>>
>>57645423
Gold Find/Legendary Treasure
Makes me love playing (((Kamigakari)))
>>
>>57648672
Mind elaborating? 500 gold is neat, but i'd hardly call it a make or break talent like you make it out to be, at least for yourself

Is it the gold itself? the potential roleplay options?
>>
>>57648796
I'm not saying it's a make or break talent, I'm saying that it's my favorite talent, since that was the question being asked.

The gold is really good, and the wiggle room you have to fluff it also make it good.
>>
>>57649072
Huh. Fair enough, i suppose. I just never thought anyone would pick such an out of the way talent, at all let alone as their favorite.
>>
>>57647175
I have Sacramental Majesty along with Superhuman Strength and Ancient Memories for "lol what are skill checks" shenanigans. Superhuman Strength isn't that useful to my character but it's a requirement for Strike of Legend which is.

>>57648672
>>57648796
>>57649170

I like it also. Simple, but useful. It's going on my next character
>>
>>57649275
If i ever get the chance to play a hanyou, or kamigakari again at all i wanna make a cute treasure-finding wolf girl that just sorta blunders her way into and out of trouble.

8 books?!?
there is the Core, Requiem for the God Soul, Machine God of Damocles, True Regalia of Chronos, Embers That Burn for the Girl, and Four Guardian Gods. What are the other 2?

and yeah, $200 is a big chunk of change, but getting them one at a time is a little less painful financially.

I was thinking about asking about scans, but I didn't want to step on toes, cos some people get touchy about those.

>I was thinking about asking about scans, but I didn't want to step on toes, cos some people get touchy about those.

Yeah, it'll be slow going since i can only scan so much, and only once or twice a week at most, but if you are okay with waiting on it i'm working on it so we can get full translations of the books from 2 onward.
>>
>>57654095
I know 6 and 7 are mostly just replays and stuff, but i'm interested in what options they have for the GM's out there.
>>
>>57632629
>Today's question:

Is there even a need for this when only one person ever answers it?
>>
>>57657975
Huh. I never noticed those in the OP. That might be why it doesn't get answered much

I don't know about esoteric, but I do like tarot-themed characters but it's not really something that works as a single PC unless the party and GM also get in on it
>>
>>57658019
So like jojo part 3, in the first half? or persona, if you prefer.

Either way, tarot themed stuff is always interesting, and a game built around it could surely be pretty cool, so long as people stuck to their guns as X card. Going back to >>57651161 for a second, that could make a perfect character for the fortune arcana.

Also, if you have a way to make that more visible, i'd be up for suggestions on that.
>>
>>57658053

Something more like Persona, yeah. Just running a straight-up persona game could be good by itself, actually.

How to make it more visible? Tough question. If it's not explicit which character/NPC correlates to what card then you gotta really know your tarot to play up the themes and associations (the Tower's first appearance coming with major revelations, etc), and then hope your players are on the level. I've not GMed before, so I'm not super sure the best way to handle that sort of thing.
>>
>>57660142
I meant the OP Questions.
>>
>>57660241
Oh that makes more sense

Well I don't read the OP which is why I've never seen it, maybe make it the first reply?
>>
>>57660266
Some people don't read that either, which is an issue in and of itself.
>>
>>57660676
>>57658053
>>57657975
>>57658019
Looking at /pfg/, they usually keep their OPs real small, that might be key, because boy, do we have a big thing. Might need to, y'know, trim it a little.

We can start by removing that second HomebrewAnon pastebin link, for one.
>>
>>57660142
>I've not GMed before, so I'm not super sure the best way to handle that sort of thing.

Well looking into a single arcana and sticking to the themes isn't hard. It depends on if the themes are apparent or not. If they are an actual plot point, they could bring it up in less subtle ways. If not then the players will need to look up some basic stuff on tarot, and making it required reading might be needed.

>>57661705
Crap, i hadn't noticed that. I'll fix that next time round.
>>
>>57661705
You have any more suggestions for parsing it down any? most of that seems pretty vital besides the extra homebrewanon part. Maybe the storytime pastebin can go into a reply post with the JTTRPG Discord?

Dropping in here as someone who's played Kamigakari for a bit (Contractor B is OP as hell and I've run exactly that):

Isn't it kind of pathetic that this thread needs so much storytime and monster homebrew to get itself going? Other RPG generals don't have to resort to this bottom of the barrel scraping. It's barely about actually talking of the game or the fluff any more.

>and monster homebrew to get itself going

No ones posted any monster homebrew stuff but the guy that set up the guide for it, so thats a moot point.

That said, i chalk that partially up to kamigakari anon not translating large portions of the character materials. There's tons of little things he didn't translate over completely, especially in the expansions, that help to expand on the world.
>>
>>57668197
Eh. We just don't have a lot to talk about.
>>
>>57668319
Once the translation starts in full, things should speed up. Especially when we get to the setting stuff and actually start focusing on it. People understand the mechanics by now, so now its probably smartest to start expanding on the setting, talking about characters, factions, whatever else have you.

I'll see if the various factions we know of have any symbols or anything, as those can really help to get people into them.
>>
>>57668197
There isn't much of either of those going on either, which is part of the problem. These threads are just sort of slow-rolling along in hopes bookanon posts scans we can translate
>>
>>57670585
To be fair, we still have the scans from the previous time, so far as translating goes. We only translated the actual rules, and nothing much else.
>>
>>57670675
Speaking of this, i'm going to finish out the first parts of the second book, which is Aliases and the handout summary, a total of 5 pages. Once i've got those i'll see to starting a translation of the first one properly, and not just the two rules.
>>
>>57671500
Okay, i am here with the scans of pages 20-31, since i realized that 26-31 were sample characters with actual stats and backstory that people can use.
>>
>>57672163
Anyways, i would appreciate any help i can get on this. Even someone just getting the raw script out of it and sending me that would be a massive help to translating this.
>>
>>57672219
What I did to the previous lot was OCR the in Japanese, then copy things out of them. Doesn't work on the more cursive title box text, or on some of the blurrier symbols near the spine, but it's easy to insert one or two corrected characters. Also doesn't always recognise columns properly, but that just means you have to copy line by line.
>>
>>57672507
OCR?
>>
>>57672614
Optical Character Recognition. Basically, the software looks at the image and tries to work out what's a letter. Blurring and fancy fonts confuse it, and it has a hard time with the concept of column breaks.
>>
>>57674039
I didn't know such a thing even existed. That could be amazing for translating this.
>>
>>57632629
I need to get to sleeping soon, and i've got work in the morning, but if thread dies before here and then, i'm gonna look over the setting stuff quite a bit, and see if i can't get us to cover that more in the next thread. One of the first things thats going to be translated is more setting details, so i think its a good time to delve back into the setting, rather than just focusing on the crunch.
>>
Since <Purgatory Night> 16 years ago - Japan became the forefront of the mystery which is unknown and irregular. In recent years, <Aramitama>, which seeks to reduce the world, has caused terrible <Supernatural Incidents> one after another, but these are solved by the success of the <Kamigakari>, peace of the world is kept at the limit. Two threats that may destroy the equilibrium of fighting are starting to move around Japan. That threat is "a dramatic evolution of a supernatural existence that is hostile to human society" and "the rise of a huge enterprise trying to create enormous profits by using mystery". A fierce fight between enterprises over the terrible treasure - <Shinkin sacred treasure>. Land God and its spirits who are deprived of <spirituality> and <treasure>, and further captured as experimental materials. Blood family of heterotypes who decided to oppose humanity from a resentment of long time and entrusted to an evil organization... For such complicated reasons, many of the terrible incidents such as Aramitama and Kamigakari getting hands together by conspicuous interests, as the Kamigakari is not Aramitama but a fangs of mankind who was tormented by monsters, It is beginning to happen. In addition, in various parts of Japan, the number of incomprehensible events such as "various existences suddenly harbouring <fragments>, causing Aramitama and causing supernormal cases" is increasing more. For this reason, "super-existent organization hostile to human society" and "huge enterprise trying to create huge profits by utilizing mystery" are successively used for the supernatural existence, fragments, sacred treasure and blood group, eventually to take away the spirit And influx. Supernormal cases in Japan are getting confused. The chiefs of the organizations that have witnessed these current situations are muttering as they respond quickly. "The world itself is guided by some kind of force and moving toward chaos" and one.
>>
>>57675674
That's the first section of Page 4 fed into Google Translate. As you can see, I've somewhat displeased it. Relevant information is as follows:
>16 years ago, Purgatory Night heralded in a wave of supernatural mysteries in Japan
>these are caused by the Aramitama, which are generally stopped by the God Hunters
>however, a dramatic rise in organisation (I think) of the supernatural creatures, in addition to the rise of a massive company trying to exploit the supernatural for money, threatens to destroy this equilibrium
>spirits and sacred treasures are being captured for experimentation, and assorted monsters are forming an evil organisation
>something about the battles between God Hunters and Aramitama being meddled with by these two forces, I think
>there is a rise in people getting inhabited by <fragments> and Aramitama appearances
>supernatural incidents are getting very confused with all these different forces interacting
>the chiefs of related organisations are whispering that the world is heading towards a state of chaos
>>
>>57675718
Well shit. Thanks for the effort my man. I'll see to rewording the longer version so that it makes some modicum of sense.
