>Do any of you remember when things used to be, I dunno, 'normal'? When we didn't used to have to huddle about in barely stable cities hoping that shit didn't get any worse, or having to worry about whether or not that building down the street was going to eat you the moment you turned your back? When we didn't have to constantly watch the ground and make sure that we didn't have a second set of footprints or three shadows trailing behind us? When entire towns weren't getting their kids broken down and spirited off by the Carts Of Terror once nightfall came down, or when the Clocktower didn't reduce everything near it to dust and ash without any warning? Or the days when we didn't have to think about our families getting taken by the Shop or the Quiet Man, or that damned 'Bird'. Remember when we could actually live our lives without fear and we didn't have to rely on those fucking Girls to save our asses day in and day out? I damn well remember.....

>Pass me another bloody drink will you?
>>
>You know that fear you get when the night comes, that little wriggling in your tummy when you see the sun set and everything go dark? I can fucking guarantee you that the kids feel worse. Much worse. Especially when the Carts come, tolling their infernal bells and creaking and cracking as they move all the while

>Kids taken by the Carts never return and what happens to them before they're dragged off kicking and screaming is all too horrible. I've known parents who've gone ahead and killed their kids the moment it looks like they're going to be taken, and yet they say that they can still hear the screams. Ringing out endlessly into the night.

My keyboard is licking the Oil off my fingers RIGHT NOW. Roll with the times, old man.
>>
>>59051307
Never said anything about not liking them, kid. They're just unnerving is all. When a girl who looks young enough to still be playing around with dolls is running around with a staff larger than most people are tall, has skin like porcelain and a dress made out of fucking stars, that's going to cause some people to freak out a bit.

Also, stop having your "keyboard" do that. You're probably going to catch something nasty (and more than likely contagious) that way.

>It used to not be this bad. I'm no oldtimer, but I remember when my mom only had to warn me and my brother about The Tunnels. Not that the warnings stopped Bill and I, mind you. When ya go hungry, you looked where you could for food, and no one else would step within a mile of them. We knew the tricks—where to walk backwards, where to hold your breath and close your eyes, when to run and when to hide—and we felt fucking invincible.

>"It" came last night. You know Mr. Henderson, that weird old drunk babbling nonsense? They say he was a surgeon, and the only survivor last time it showed up. According to the old ones, he used to preform miracles with the scalpel, but he came between "it" and his wife, he was never the same again.

>God, how did they describe it? 'There was a sound like bubble wrap as "it" crumpled her like tissue.' Fuck, imagine that noise; the popping and twisting. Makes me sick. Anyways, Mr. Henderson unloaded 10 12g. slugs into "it's" face before "it" took a swing at him. That's why he's missing his left arm y'know? They say he was lucky because when they found him, The Church determined 45 different corpses were piled up in a great wet heap, and Mr. Henson was propped up in a corner, barely breathing.Thank god I only had to deal with The Wasps; a flamethrower solved that shit real fast.

>Sometimes, if you catch him drunk and asleep, you can here him whisper "Delilah, Delilah, what happened to your face?" Downright chilling if you ask me, I'd have shot myself by now, but they say he has a sawn-off in his dirty brown trench coat, with a pair of incendiary rounds, just in case he ever sees it again. He just might get his chance tonight...

Live without regret or fear, my friend, for anyone could die at any time, do what you desire and be who and what you are, don't waste time on things you don't desire and don't waste time on being someone you aren't. This.

I had a friend once, his name was Jack. He got all worked up about the how and the why of it all, then spent all his time obsessing over some machine, "The Omen Collector" apparently. Anyways, he was in Sky City with me around the time of The Awakening, tracking a lead on the stupid thing. He got all squirrely. Said he wasn't sleeping, could barely eat anymore, lost about 50lbs, and I felt real bad for him; looked like a ghost.

I tried to convince him to drop it, get back into the swing of things with the latest reunification effort, but he wasn't listening. Kept saying something about "spirit of the machine" this and "release the sky" that, but just when shit hit the fan, he was one of The First Fallen. I had to bash his skull in with a shovel.

After that, I decided to live my life my way. I took his diary as a reminder of the way life could be, and I haven't looked back since. Been happier for it; you never know when it's your time.

"Stability" really seems to be an on and off thing for the Girls, really. There are rumours that the weirdness started in one place and spread across the land like a pox. That place was a nice(ish) little town called Desolation. Or maybe it was the nearby mountain called Deception. Probably the mountain if The Hermit is to be believed although before the end both were feeding off the other, not that the residents knew this. Maybe they should have given what happened to the town of Bliss and the old "Spanish" Fort before them but the maps were impossible to be accurate so it wasn't immediately obvious the effect was spreading.

Since the fall of the old nations and states nobody has survived and returned from an expedition to the Deception mountain and the whole Route 8 area is ground zero for fucked up shit.

Of course there are lots of places that are no go so maybe it was not originally as localized as we thought. Who knows anymore. And if anyone knows what difference could it make now?

Things are true when we knew that they were not the things that were dis-proven were not unhappened but papered over. Reality is reasserting itself and it is incompatible with the current system and the old system is stronger than this wooden raft of reason. Fallen angels arise from pyramid prisons and kings have dug out from under the mountains. The myths of the new world with it's science and reason are declared a false narrative, forget all you remember and hold only that which you can touch. Arthur, Brân and Fionn mac Cumhaill have divided up Britain as the true kings under those mountains and from Mt Deception the cracks in false reality spread, stripping away the artificial story of an artificial history.

Flags of nations that never were hang and flutter in the ruins that aren't but we can touch and we remember that they weren't but here they are. The trains go where they will but not where was or should be, not where they once went but where the new real has tracks for them. The ruins of the world that retroactively never was are growing fainter like the afterimage of nuclear fire burned into the memory of the world as it heals over and forms the shape of this old horror made anew. All of the stories are now true and all the old gods are coming back, even the ones that contradict the other ones as much as they contradict the shed real.

Ah yes, "life". Getting eaten the veru instant you step out of your own damn house by the fucking grass or the wind itself (and at times, even by your own house), or waking up and now your body is covered in flesh-eating splinters, or maybe having a giant 'cloud' of screaming mist descending upon your city and making everything vanish in an instant without any warning, yes. Certainly 'living' the dream as it were. I'd almost forgotten what you arrogant kids think counts as "life" in this day and age.

Well guess what? That's no "living" out there, certainly not for any of we sane folk. Sure, the Girls might flourish out amongst that nightmare, but that's just it isn't it? They were made to fight against this, that's their whole purpose. Whereas we fleshies? We just exist to be fodder and meat for the things in the dark.

Here in my town, things are still pretty much normal. It's a small university town, in the middle of what once was Czech Republic, home of a large community of young students and academics. Things work about as well as we could expected. Some things are even better than ever. Classess got as diverse as humanly possible, and not a week happens without someone running into a class with yet another evidence of yet another order of reality going haywire. It gives us students - material to speculate about for the rest of our life. We sat it on ourselves that with our trusty academic tools and our trusty local breweries, we will make sense of what is happening, even if it takes the rest of our existence. Some things are even better, The school caffeteria always provides fresh, grilled and delishious meat. the unspeakable sounds coming from in there, and the shadows of being both human and monsterous being consistently ushered in and never seen leave gave at least fifteen students a subject for their bachelor thesis. Interestingly enough, no social antropologist chose to make a study through trusted method of participatory observation.

Sure, there are drawbacks. Nobody dares to enter the trams buses and trains that still somehow keep running despite the obvious lack of drivers or service crews.. We cried about the roof of our prized Radhaz, but we eventually grew to like like our one-stemmed Lady, and she now stands as a symbol of the city together with our inexplicable Tower Orrery
(which was bizzare even before things got weird - the fact that the mechanical figures now walk around the city and produce the most charming little mechanical toys for children is less bizarre that somebody actually decide to depict them in the first place. I'm sure all the allegations about these toys being cruel in most surreal ways are all completely false. And if not: kids in the pedagogy departments and child psychology deps will be DELIGHTED to learn about the outcomes!

You know, at times, I pity the scientifically-minded folk. Mostly because once shit started and all hell broke loose, they were typically the first to absolutely lose it, like this poor sod. But then I remember that they doubted all of the people pointing out the signs of the coming calamity, such as the appearance of the Girls all over, or the stars going out, brushing it all off as "hogwash", or "fairytales made up by blinded religious folk", and then it just makes me kinda loath the stuck-up fucks.

But hey, even if the'yre now utterly brainwashed and completely Processed, they can at least spend their time doing what they loved back when they were people! At least, until one of the Girls shows up and nukes them that is.
>>
People keep going on about how scary and inhuman the Girls are, how deep down they're just as bad as the monsters they're fighting, but honestly? I've seen them when they're not fighting, and just hanging out with each other. Saddest Goddamn thing I have ever seen. Looks like they're making this perverse imitation of normal teenage small talk, but stick around for a while and it's clear they're just trying to help each other remember what their lives were like before... come to think of it, how do they make these poor wretches? And who's making them in the first place?
>>
>>59074018
>ow do they make these poor wretches? And who's making them in the first place?
Supposedly, some of the Girls have spoken about "Powers" and "Benefactors" who seemingly grant them their abilities. The Girls willing to speak about it say that they're -apparently- 'benevolent', but also that they are...."Alien" to put it into layman's terms. They also tend to weep black blood and start muttering incoherently whenever they speak about them, so don't go asking around about it.
>>
>>59073975
>You know, at times, I pity the scientifically-minded folk.
Oh piss off. It was only the ones who stayed in their comfy little institutions that suffered, the ones who had never heard of fieldwork. Out there you can thrive if you're patient. The horrors are drawn to masses, to groups and once they descend they focus around that area for a little while. That's your chance to take action, whatever that may entail. Move through the otherwise-unsafe open plains, scavenge in the mayhem for supplies or even watch and take notes. You'd honestly be surprised at how much you can learn from these things. You start to notice patterns where others wouldn't, the way certain manifestations - while appearing random - actually have some consistency between them. I'd write a book if there were anyone around to bloody read it.
>>
>>59074763
Do not get me wrong, I myself took to the field of studying these entities myself, mostly watching out for manifestations of things such as the Midday Train or the Clocktower. And whilst I do admit that there is knowledge to be gained from studying our enemy, there is also great danger. To look out into the abyss unprotected is a true hazard upon the mind, and any number of dark manifestations could embed themselves within your subconscious thoughtsphere. Patiently waiting to burst free and ravage all in their path.

It is why I usually do not accept apprentices, unlike my peers.

It wasn't until the Long Man showed up that my old town stopped being normal.
We heard the news. We knew about the Train. We set up roadblocks like everyone else did, had men watchin' 'em too.
Things weren't bad. We had our own gardens, o'course. Artesian wells. Windmills. That damned irish mackerel-snapper Padre even took his turn, when he wasn't nippin' at the corn, if you catch my meaning.
We was self-sufficient, like.
Then came the Long Man. We turned him away, o'course. No one comes into the town, them's the rules. But there he was, long, tall 'n' ugly, with big yeller horseteeth and sad droopy eyes.
Wanted to get to his fambly, he said. Didn't care 'bout the town cept that he was passin' through. Drivin' a big ole getup, an ice cream truck.
Well, we couldn't quite get the heart to turn him away, so we let him through, watchin' him every stretch of the way. Weren't less'n fifteen or twenny gun on him, and ne'er did he even say boo to a goose.
Damn near next day ole Herk went tearin' up and down the streets yellin' his fool head off about how "The Delicious Engine" was loose. Some nasty, blasphemous thing that looked like a cross 'tween a four-stroke engine and a doberman. It went panting, grunting and revving up and down the streets, dragging thirteen tongues behind it.
Took near-on two hunnerd rounds from thirty-ought all the way to double-ought buck and still it ran, grunting and wheezing an chasing ol' Herk. They went out into the desert, the two of them, Herk screamin' 'n' that thing panting an sweating oil as it chased after.
We thought it was over, but really it'd just begun.
>>
>>59075084
I must admit, things do seem a little... ...off. There was an outpost kinda near the coast, planned to take shelter there for a few days to relax from the hunting. Not long into my stay and the sky's clouded over, brown clouds tinged with green. When that happens you get the Oil rain. It's fairly localised so you can just leave the area until it soaks into the ground again. I even told them the rhyme:
>Brown and grey, miserable day
>Green and brown, get out of town
>Brown and red, everyone's dead
It's a pretty simple mnemonic (if slightly inconsistent in structure) but they told me the clouds were just dark grey, same as always. So I left town and what do you bloody know, Oil rain, just as I said!
Next day I'm a few miles out and one of the older blokes comes up on his motorbike saying that half the town is dead and it's all my fault! I warned them and everything and they still blame me! I don't bring the bloody disasters I can just tell when they're coming because I'm not an idiot. There are plenty of others I've met along the way who can tell so it's not like I'm just mental or anything.
Anyways, jokes on them because I shot him, nicked his bike and got the hell out of dodge, the clouds on the horizon were red that morning and I didn't fancy being anywhere near that shit. Last I heard, a massive stretch of the Southwest is a no-man's land now. Well, except for the brave and/or stupid.
My point is that sometimes you've got to know this stuff otherwise you end up like them.
>>

Having a good understanding of the various weather phenomena when you're out and about is a good way to avoid death or worse indeed. In fact, I have found certain methods as to identify certain shifts in air patterns that can help to signify dangerous atmospheric conditions or the like.

Observing the movement patterns of the Girls is also a good way to tell when one should try to beat feet away from a certain area.

Sorry to call on all of you but can someone explain the Girls to me? I'm in England so maybe it's a regional thing. We get the Midday train from time to time, mostly in the midlands, and the Clocktower is infamous enough for tales to have reached us but these 'Girls' are completely new to me. Maybe I've just missed all of the news, wouldn't be surprising as I'm not always welcome in towns.
From what you people have said, they sound a bit like our Marksmen but worse.
>>
>>59077034
Pretty much, the 'Girls' are as their 'name' implies. Appearing to be young girls either in their early teens to looking as young as kids who probably shouldn't be running about by themselves at all, all of them slugging around weaponry of all kinds, from spears and bows, to scythes and cannons, to even bloody chainsaws or other weird shit. Some don't even HAVE weapons whatsoever, instead just going about and causing things to perish either by just being in the general area, or tossing about some very genuine magical shit at anything that pisses them off.

We don't exactly know what their deal is, but we do know that they aren't human (at least, not anymore), and they seem to hate the things fucking up the world even more than we do.
>>
Does, does anybody have a normal dog anymore? One that doesn't have to be blinded as a newborn puppy? My dad says he had one of the last ones before the change, but I've never seen one before. I mean, they're sweet and all even now, but it just seems so cruel. Well, I thought so until I saw one of the ferals, damn thing killed my sister before dad put it down, but I wonder if it's just regional or if it's everywhere?
>>

Fukcing shit man did you actually sat down infront of that shit and draw it?
I lost two family members to that door, my sister and my uncle. My uncle just wanted to take a small walk. Next thing I know the door pops up from under the ground and sucks him up, like vacuum cleaner sucking up dirt. No time to react no nothing he just disappeared in its gaping mouth. thank whatever gods exist I was far away in the camp when i saw it happening.
My sister of the other hand wanted to actually "examine" one that was still up after it sucked some poor fella on the highway. Stupid girl got to close. It didnt go underground because it was dead. It fell on her and splattered her guts all over the place. I still rememeber how she screamed the moment before it crushed her.
To this day I dont know anyone who seen more than one of these. I guess I am the unlucky one seeing two in my lifetime.
I still wonder how you drew that by the way. It is so eerily similar.

They look like people. Or at least look like things looking like people. They ride on things that at first glance can be mistaken for horses. Typically they are armed with bronze swords and wooden hunting bows and various arrows. They dress in animal skins and other natural materials.

For the most part they are a good thing. They can one shot any abomination and they negate anomalous phenomenon by their mere proximity. Sadly they are either extremely bad at differentiating between a man and an abomination or they just like shooting stuff too much to care. If you stand still when they see you they won't hunt you usually.

Music attracts them.

Now, if you can take the ramblings of some mobody, I'm not so sure the girls are as 'inhuman' as some like to claim. Maybe the first few were, and they're sure as hell something more, but I like to hold out hope that they've still got our heart, y'know, the kind of sense that sets us apart from the things fucking up the world, as you put it. Assuming we ARE set apart, of course.

On the occasions when mail gets through, there are some others I hear from, who've made quite a few notes on Them, Us, and the Girls, and I think there's evidence for that being two camps as least as much as it's three. Of course, all too often it creeps closer to one. Go ahead, ask why I open letters from the mailing list with a knife on a stick now.

Or don't, I guess it should be feckin' obvious.

>>
>>59090776
I don't know what the post is like where you are, or where that guy is for that matter, but around these parts the worst you get is, usually, the fact that it's unreliable seeing how "letter carrier" is not a job with much of a life expectancy. Gets worse the farther you're trying to send to or recieve from, too. Just attrition on the road.

If things get much worse I guess I'll have to take those sorts of measures too. I've heard some people say we should ask the fucking Girls to deal with infrastructure like that but to me it seems like a bad idea in general to tell those little ladies what to do, and the height of hubris to suggest getting the mail through should be on their list of priorities.

Any ideas why there's still night and day and light and warmth even though the sun just sorta vanished?
>>
>>59097082
I've heard a fun theory on that! Some folks are saying that the sun ain't really gone, the distortions are just hiding it by throwing the light just about everywhere. I've got a hard time remembering what the daytime sky was like before, but I don't think it was usually in the sort of yellow-orange-red spectrum you see today. Blue... that sounds about right. Sun was yellow, I've got it now, and now it's the whole damn sky when it's bright.

What really bakes my noodle is the cats. The dogs all went nuts or have to be blinded and the cows and chickens all seem to just stumble around in some stupid trance, while it's been a while since I've seen wholesome wildlife, but the cats... they just don't fucking care, carry on like nothing ever happened. You hear any reason why that is?
>>
>>59097391
I haveheard rumours that the Girls have cast a magic on all the cats to be protected by the reality distortions. In exchange the cats report significant events back to them.
These are only rumours mind you. I have never seen a Girl in my life for more than a few seconds.

>You lot ever been beyond the mountains? To the Middle Lands? Bet you havn't, with I hadn't. You want fear? Those lands are fear. The landscape rises up to eat the sky, and the sky reaches down to bite the land. There are those things that skitter about on legs of that seem to bleed through the ground. The shadows are alive, tried to eat my own when I was starving. And the heat, gods the dry, rancid heat, probably thanks to that shard of what looks like the damn sun lodged into the horizon. I saw some Girls out there, but they were nothing like the ones on this side of the mountains, they throbbed with an immense power, they spat nuclear stars and floated across the wastes like flowers made of marble and precious gems, none of the Girls over here look anything like them. I dunno if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
But perhaps the worst thing out there in those Middle Lands was that 'thing' standing on the horizon, staring at me, bigger than any mountain or city, bigger than the sky...how does that thing exist, what does it do, and why does it keep looking at me, despite being so small and so far away compared to it...

We did over here for a while, but we've cannibalized or smashed every one of those deck boxes after "The Eye" started broadcasting. You'd never know when it could cut in, and even a few seconds could fuck people up good, assuming they had the wits to end their exposure. From what I've heard, the Marksmen used to be human, at least when this all started (I wasn't born back then so this is secondhand knowledge). They were a bunch of normal guys, enamoured with tales of the English longbowmen, who decided to hunt lesser abominations with 'traditonal English weapons'. For the most part it worked, some of the horrors are vulnerable to conventional weapons and they quickly became the stuff of local legend, the group grew and everything was great. Of course things got worse, as they tend to do. When the serious threats arose, they rode out to fight it with all of their usual bravado and were slaughtered. Of the twenty who went out only three returned, one of them being from the original eight. Despite their strength, this new wave of creatures barely seemed to notice them. They somehow reasoned that, to be able to survive another fight, they had to partially become like the monsters. Some of them grafted bits of their flesh or carapace to their own bodies, some replaced entire limbs, a couple even ingested small amounts of Oil. However they chose, they changed (if they survived). Their bodies were stronger, faster, and certainly no longer human. But normal weapons were no longer enough. They crafted their own from bone and sinew and God knows what else. Soon enough they were a force to be reckoned with, though one you'd want far away from you. Sure, they hunt the abominations but as the other person said, they don't really differentiate between them and us. It's nice to know they're out there though, even if they are a little fucked up.
Thing is, apparently there are more now than there were originally.
>>
>>59047820
>When we didn't have to constantly watch the ground and make sure that we didn't have a second set of footprints or three shadows trailing behind us?

Run you dumb ass. It's invisible and it's following you, usually it does not want to just have tea or talk about its favorite gun. At least that is what I'm told, the men of God find those things here and stamp it out with the utmost fervor.

>>59099495
Oh, look, it's the usual monster-spawn rumor that the King and the Church are here to eat us. I tell you, the Wall, silver bullets, honest human intolerance, and the light of God have kept Portugal and its royal family safe ever since all this shit started going down. Any talk about cannibalism or dark pacts is pure horseshit- probably from Spaniards who weren't let in before the Wall's gates shut.
>>
>>59105462
Those and no Girls? I wonder if it's a similar process. Ah, but the Atlantic being the way it is I doubt I'll ever get a chance to really compare notes.

Though, on the note of crossing the less friendly ocean, the more I hear, the more I think Portugal must be on the far end of the spectrum On one hand, I've yet to hear of an abomination that can still use a keyboard without outing itself. On the other hand, I do wonder why "Intolerance and god" have worked there and not in all the other places where they have been tried.

Most places I've been it was the churches that got fucked second, right after the deep urban centers. Faith, denomination, and attitude didn't seem to matter. But then, a study of the new beliefs cropping up is something of a pet project of mine... like you start out a folklorist and even when you're neck deep in vile as a 'new scientist' trying to code and catalogue all the shit that goes bump in the night and how we're supposed to avoid it or bump it back, but some old habits die hard.

In my expert opinion, though, >>59109342 is damn right about one thing. You've got unseen followers? The kinds that aren't perfectly hidden? You run. Just fucking run. Ideally to a crowd, since ambush predators don't like to attack if something else is watching, but they're not fond of fast food in general so... good luck.

Portugal's a mystery and it'll most likely remain one for quite a while. All I know is that they made a deal with Germany and the Vatican and now Germany's absolutely buggered. The other two say it's because of their weak faith but it's a little suss to be honest. I don't think they're engaging in dark rituals but to keep their entire population inside with little to no communication with the outside world makes it seem like their up to something. Honestly I'm surprised >>59109342 was able to access this channel.
By the way, if chance finds you in England -whichever way you find to cross those waters- ask around London and the surrounding wastes for the name 'Snow Bug'. It's not my real name and I'm not entirely sure why they call me it but it's the politest name they'll use. I'll admit I'm not massively popular but if you ask, someone will point you in the right direction. Just find a guide first, I can keep you safe if you stick around but depending on when you come I could be a little way away.
Of course, this is all highly unlikely to happen but it's nice to be a little optimistic from time to time.
>>

>>
>>59117677
I don't know how small you think England is but we're not that close to Scotland.
That said, last time I was down in London there was a bloke down from there and from what he said the Highlands seem to be practically thriving. There's something about the area that keeps the worst of these happenings away. Any apparitions are relatively easy to deal with and some are even benign, if a little creepy. The guy's never even heard of the Midday Train, let alone seen it! On top of that, they've started breeding dogs to be born blind, but with senses of hearing and smell.
Seriously, if I ever get tired of roaming around I might move to Scotland.

>>59120976
Look, as much as I'd like to say 'Steamwheel Dicksmasher' instead of Midday Train, it's a little flippant for how dangerous it is. That and people who have lost family to it call you insensitive.

Seriously though, it's hard to make things genuinely creepy. People understand that the unknown is scary,
so they remain vague to add unease. It's rather heavy-handed, I agree, but it's better than going the other direction and explicitly stating what something is and losing all sense of mystery. Sure, lions are scary in a practical sense but they're not unsettling in the way we're trying to establish here. Plus it means that other people can build on a throwaway comment, like how the Girls started from one silly post or I mentioned the Marksmen and someone else described them.

Makes me start to wonder if some of the worst manifestations might not dislike the cold. Canada, or at least what parts of it I've got report from, still has some shit to deal with. Things they call Wendigos or Wechuge, after the old myths, the Shadows, and of course the deepest city centers are kind of fucked by things like the Rats of Vancouver.

But the last time I had the pleasure of encountering a Canadian in a similar line to my own he seemed to be quite shocked by what was left of the States. I think it was the sheer variety that did the trick, though our Girls seemed to also be a point of contention. They have them up north, and if anything it seems like they've got a more religious following than most places I've been, but the way he put it they're more 'down to earth'. Like they really are special girls, not a something-else that's on our side. He was probably exaggerating the niceties, based on the other stories he told, but it seems like it's kind of the opposite of the Middle lands, which like they (and I mean >>59098422) say, are hot as hell and totally fucked.

Maybe I should consider fixing the AC just a little more than a luxury.
>>
>One of the Girls visited me long ago. She was different from the normal ones, her eyes were sapphires, her hair a curtain of light and fire, and her dress was like a window into space, shards of marble floated about her like shattered glass, and she held a needle of gold that was longer than her whole body
>I had been lost in the Middle Lands after my home was turned to ash by something in the dark, I was delirious, suicidal, I was almost hoping she was here to end my life.
>But instead she spoke to me, not words, mind you, it was colors that drowned out every thought in blinding light. And I breathed in those colors
>The next 'day' I woke up, my heart was now a shooting star, and my arm was it's tail, my skin was speckled with gems the size of freckles and I felt more power than I could fathom.

No, fuck no mate. The Girls may be creepy but nothing can be worse than the Marksmen. I've known people who just ran away into the Wilds when they heard the Marksmen where coming to deal with the things that had shown up in town. Just like that, they could learn to survive among those fucked up monsters but the moment the Marksmen showed up they ran for the hills, amd good on them. One of them shot himself on the spot and I can't say I blame him. There's no good news out there these days, but they don't get any worse than the Marksmen.

And I've been hearing rumors about how poeple stick their head in and see another world, that isn't fucked, that has actual trees. I mean, TREES. for gods sake! And grass and flowers that dont kill you!
I've been thinking about it alot, and it's probably just a rumor or myth or whatever, but I'l be honest, I'd rather takes my chances somewhere else. Somewhere that isn't here. What are your guys thoughts on this? Think it's a good idea?

See, I don't think it's the cold that matters. Scotland has some pretty deep roots in mysticism with its ley lines and druids. I've personally never cared for that stuff but there are a couple of people who insist that 'the old ways' can keep you safe. It'd seem like any other superstition if they didn't keep coming back alive. Maybe they know something else and are covering it up by pretending to be hippies, who knows. Honestly, when it comes to surviving, I don't know where the logic ends and magic begins.
If anyone has experience with this please share, it could be vital to our continued existence.

The Marksmen are easy to avoid, while they don't distinguish between human and otherwise, they also don't innately sense us as they do the abominations. Just stay out of sight, don't look at them, plug your ears if you're prone to nightmares and avoid where they rode for a couple of hours. Sure, they'll slaughter you if they see you but that's your own fault to be honest.
>There's no good news out there these days
Lighten up, there's plenty of good news if you pay attention. Just last week I came across a small settlement that had managed to stay completely undetected since the Event. They even had a newborn with no deformities. A little skinny perhaps but the fact they were able to grow their own food was amazing enough.

There's a glimmer of hope out there, the stars may have gone out but we will light our own.

Wise words for the modern day. Me? I wouldn't take a weird portal. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Have you not gotten cameras and RC cars past the gremlins? It seems like there could be better ways to scout it but if those aren't running I guess it's in or out.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fucking Imposters yet. Are they limited to where I am, or just so fucking insidious they don't bear mention.

We call them Doppelgangers around here, for obvious reasons, but I think they're the same thing. Phenomenon. Distortion. Whatever. See multiple of somebody, then more, and eventually they turn up very messy dead. I'm not sure there's any THING doing it, I think a person might actually be split apart somehow.

>Foolish children of the False World! Do you not see that you fight for this lie of a timeline? One that rejects the glorious Night and besmirches the name of the true gods risen anew? This false existence safeguarded by equally false beings, whom you brand as those of a feminine, and childish nature!
>But we of the History-Eaters know the truth, the one truth! For we have been touched by our great and unholy King, who has revealed unto us His nature as the true worldline! And together, our bloodied order shall gather His Fragments strewn throughout this already wonderfully changing world, and unify them once more, to bring about the final Grand Feast that shall end this wretched untruth once and for all! Join us now, and perhaps you too shall be blessed, given the wondrous honor of being eaten by our King at the head of the last table.

A national fucking hero died last night, and not a man nor woman seems to give a shit. Grey John we called him, on account of an incident that turned half his skin to death, and he was the best most decent bloke you ever met. Oldest fella in my settlement. Whenever you went round his hut, you'd find half the young'uns in the village clustered round him, while he told his tales. He still remembered. Remembered what it was like Before.

He used to talk about these strawberries. Sweet things he said. So red, and so delicious, practically melting in your bloody mouth. He'd wax nostalgic for the things for half the fucking day if you let him. He was always trying to grow them. Whenever you went by he'd have some new thing buried out the front of his hut. Never worked, 'course, the things never fucking grew. Anyone coulda told you they wouldn't. Everyone thought he was daft for trying. But... it's silly, I know, but loony as he was, he gave me hope. Always had a smile on his face, the silly old fucker did, with his talk of strawberries, always droning on about how this next crop'd be the one that worked. How he'd finally get to taste that sweet, sweet fruit again.

He died last night. The creeping grey finally took him. I was there. Only one who was in fact, on account of it being the witching hour when he went, and all the village folk being locked away. He looked at me as he died, the old bastard, his eyes full of tears, and he said something I'll never forget. He asked me, his eyes wide and naked:
>"Do you remember what strawberries taste like?"
And then he died.

I cried the night away then, burying my face in his cold dead chest, so the Librarian wouldn't hear my tears.

I'll always remember you John.

>Strawberries
Fuck, man something about those things seems to make the oldest of the old nostalgic. Must have been quite the experience to have.
