/tg/ - Traditional Games

I adore the Conquered Hell setting /tg/ was working on not too long ago, and thought it might be fun to have another thread about it.

For those of you not in the know, Conquered Hell was a setting idea where mankind developed to the point where they began producing members with pronounced psychic powers (Something every intelligent race goes through at some point in their development) but instead of having people who could lift things by thinking or read minds, they accidentally created an entire Metaphysical plane of torment populated with demons and hellish monsters.

After a short, but intense war, both sides realized that they were in some way, the product of one-another and entered into alliance.

Years later and the magics of hell and the technology of mankind have propelled humanity centuries ahead, and a previously ignored backwater of the galaxy is now home to a very strong, very eager empire.

The point of this thread is to further flesh out a demonically empowered humanity, their tech, describe the demons and the rules that bind them and perhaps most importantly, the other aliens and races populating the galaxy.

Or, you know. Just the setting in general.

If Hell is a manifestation of the human consciousness, does that mean Heaven is also? Is there a mirror faction of humans who conquered/were conquered by heaven?
>>
>>60666320
See, as good as a question as this is, I don't have an answer.
The bulk of the discussion has portrayed a mankind allied with and corrupted by hell completely.
With Human/Demon marriages, a shared culture, the works.
Hell, the only major mention was Purity Worshipping God-Cults that function like terrorists.

But why WOULDN'T there be the divine?
Help me out anon, whaddya got?
>>
>>60667005
If he'll is just a manifestation the human psyche than I guess you could argue that heaven doesn't exist because that's not what the human subconscious is like. Alternatively heaven is based on the super ego while hell is based on the Id with neither being good or evil
>>
Meh, the Cloud Moth thread from a week ago was better if I'm being honest. Less HFY wankery and more people just trying to find normalcy in a literally bug fucked world makes for a more fleshed out setting imho.
>>
>>60667380
I'm not sure I follow on
>That's not what the human subconscious is like

Also the reason I tend to shy away from ALSO incorporating Heaven is because two metaphysical realms coming from humanity seems a bit 'overpowered' and also kind of clutters it up.
>>
>>60667898
Humans aren't collectively "good" enough to produce heaven from their subconscious, also if humanity has allied with hell, heaven would be naturally be antagonistic to humans
>>
What are the extent of a Human Sorcerers powers?
How do they stack up against the Psychics of other races?
>>
We should probably stop responding to trolls or detractors and stay on topic.
>>
>>60666320
To be completely frank, it isn't something I've given much thought to, I wasn't around for the previous thread and was asleep for the last two hours.

My first inclination is to have Heaven-aligned humans be super rare. Being Good is hard, acting in the interests of Hell is as easy as being a lazy freeloader and dragging everyone else down by proximity. If you have Heaven-aligned human settlements on the interstellar stage I think they would be small, like mission settlements peppered around the cosmos trying to spread the word of God.

I guess they'd also be the Quality faction of a quantity vs. quality type conflict between Heaven and Hell. While the Hell-aligned humans gains their power by torturing it out other's souls and making pacts with swarms of demons, the Heaven-aligned humans have an unparalleled level of self-mastery which, since they are tapping into a physic gestalt of all that is Good and Perfect in Creation, would give them access to absolutely stupid levels of physical and mental fortitude. Imagine an entire society of men and women who are at the level of Samson, wading through hellfire as if it didn't even exist and flipping Hell-tanks like they're empty soda cans.

I don't particularly care about quests. That's not my main point, though it is pretty sad that they actually play RPGs and worldbuild while /tg/ just beats it to fetish threads or regurgitate 40K memes.

My main point is that /tg/ is a creative deadzone. I used to think you guys were the cool board. I used to believe "/tg/ gets shit done". But now I know what you really are.

You don't create anything. You don't write anything. You don't imagine anything. And the people that do have good ideas you just ignore or shit on them. The last superhero setting thread had this great idea for a setting of cities cut off by dimensional barriers and connected through an underground super-subway dimension. It was creative. But what did they decide the setting should be? Detroit.

You want to shut me up? You want to prove me wrong? Then actually keep a damn project alive for a change.

>A hidden colony of humans on a distant world, forgotten by Earth hit the same level and produce incredibly powerful psychics who channel blinding light, great physical strength and the summoning of surreal beings of strange and terrible beauty
>The Governments of Hellish Earth deny their existence.

A *small* but very powerful and mysterious faction that rarely appears and plays no major part in galactic affairs would solve the problem of 'clutter' and allow for interesting interactions.
>>
We need to populate the galaxy!

Come up with an Alien Race.
Remember to note their tech level or specialization, and what their main Psychic power is.
>>
>>60665650
Well besides the butthurt fag here, let's build on the idea of how the tech has been improved by hell.

>super computers and advanced processors get their computing done by the bound souls of crazed geniuses, allowing the souls to also act as a quasi-AI
>>
>>60669415
>This let's them do things like change the course of missiles that have launched to account for changes in the target's trajectory, but also let's them reroute said rockets to hit strategic points as the become available or apparent
>>
>>60669279
It makes sense they wouldn't play at galactic politics at large since their primary focus would likely be liberating bound souls and converting Hellish subjects. I doubt xenos would really catch much of their attention except as very rare allies of convenience.

I think their primary presence on the galactic stage would be felt in how they disrupted military movements of the Hell empire. Very rarely you'd see an entire depot go up in white flames with several dozen personnel conspicuously MIA after the incident.
>>
>>60669407
Well the warrior race or conglomerate is a good trope to start with, especially a hierarchical approach
>>
>>60669415
>The process of Binding is an integral science to the Dominion.
>One can bind a soul to almost anything, same with Demons.
>Sufficently important technology, vehicles, and weaponry will have either a lesser demon or damned souls bound to them, almost invariably improving performance drastically, as the bound entities truly becomes one with the object.
>An ignorant sinner becomes a savant, able to process vast quantities of data
>A spastic imp learns every facet of the cannon he's inside of
>The applications are limitless

>Further research is being done into how to make the process more efficent, as the binding of greater demons or truly massive quantities of souls is still prohibitively expensive.

I feel like I should mention the two other races that were discussed in previous threads.
One was the traditional grays, who's ruling caste (the strongest psychics) have bred, engineered, and otherwise modified their race into a dizzying vsriety of subspecies, each to fill a specific purpose. The only 'true grays' left are the citizenry, who live in blind ignorance to the doings of their psychic overlords.

Second was a race of space-wood elves whose planet is one massive space-faring organism, the elves maintain and take care of it, and as part of their religion seeds other worlds with the larval state of this creature. Maybe the creature wears the planet like a shell on a hermit crab or something.

>Liking the Dean images.
Thanks. I got a folder of them from another anon. It's pretty convenient to have around.

And you're probably right that the bound souls used in this setting are passed sinners but the use of such types of sorceries would still be absolutely antithetical to a Christian-style kingdom of Heaven, on the same level as dealing with demons. The existence of technology based on this premise would be one of the highest heresies conceivable as just dealing with demons is usually enough for complete and utter damning of a mortal soul.

As for an over-arching goal of the Heaven faction; they want to prevent any more souls becoming lost sinners. They ultimately want the total and unfettered salvation of all Humanity through God. I guess the trick would be figuring out why is this task would be difficult when being aligned with Heaven has very tangible and visible benefits.

Humanity owns hell. They can just take someone who just died and throw them back onto the field. Since everyone dabbles in demonic crap, they're all damned, so they always end up in hell. It would probably cost money though

I know I keep bringing up past threads, but it was suggested that there IS an afterlife past hell.

To bring this more in line with your suggestion, mayhaps there's a risk for a soul to pass on every time they die with certain deaths incurring a higher chance for that or someone *wanting* to move on, but the will of the person or rituals can keep their soul in hell for resurrection purposes.

I do like the idea of souls that "want" to move on being able to, while those who feel they have more to offer or revel in the chaos of war can return to continue waging war. >>
>>60665650
Shiiiiiit, this actually lines up really nicely with a Blades in the Dark cyberpunk hack I was interested in creating. Any established lore about the really early days of this universe?
>>
I'm thinking..... Do we really want this hell to be manifestly an actual afterlife, on the order of "We've discovered what happens after death."? I vote *no*. The kinds of philosophical questions that are raised by constant exposure to the capacity to resurrect the dead are better served by leaving that in the air; the setting has more storytelling potential without that.
>>
>>60673152
Second, *what are* the demons? Are they actually old enough to remember the dawn of man, when it's the minds of men that created them? Recently? Or over time? I'm thinking that they could be gestating over time in the collective unconsciousness. They *do* know things from the dawn of man, some of it because the meme that would eventually give rise to them was being passed on then, some of it is a retcon to their history, with backfilled actual facts supplied from the minds of humanity, and some of it is straight-up fictional, part of their created existence. If scientific knowledge expands, that might give a literally or createdly older demon trouble, because the knowledge it was built out of incorporates scientific knowledge that has since been disproven. And as for my use of the word"meme" a minute ago, do demons bear the marks of the cultural elements that gave rise to them? I vote *yes*. Imagine different versions of demons, actually historical crazy-torture Buddhist demons palling around with shark-mouthed Polynesian demons with no actual counterpart from history, speaking in the slang of the region and era that originally gave rise to them.
>>
>>60673025
Not at all, and we would be very appreciative for the help.
All that is known is that demons manifested in the future of this timeline, both parties went to war, before the big revelation that demons exist BECAUSE of mankind. Followed by a massive jump in tech and space exploration.

Everything else needs to get tacked down.
>>
>>60673152
Hell is a place souls go to, but not the de-facto afterlife. In a way, one could interpret it as a false-afterlife, it's there because of what Hell is to mankind, but it’s not the real deal.

>>60673175
I would absolutely be down to quantify the breeds of demons, their purposes, jobs, what the gravity the seven deadly sins have in this setting, how human-driven magics work, the works.
>>
>>60673175

Third, what is the moral status of the demons? Are they damned, who hurt lesser, mortal damned because they can? Or are they dutiful torturers of the damned? Are they guards or inmates of the prison that is hell? I suggest guards: that's easier for mortals to work with, and provides a starting point for the relationship between demons and mortals.

Fourth, what are the damned? Are they actual souls from all of history? I think its probably better if they're slowly-formed things from before the opening of the gates: All the terrible stereotypes representative f what people saw evil their enemies would be represented, as well as evil historical figures, recreated from peoples' thoughts of them. Bonus points for someone like Vlad Tepes, who is still loved in Wallachia; he pops up as some demon's footrest, and the people of his homeland start a campaign to redeem him, either in the public eye or in person, to let him come back or move on. As for more recent dead, everyone who was still remembered by someone living when the gates of hell opened is a good candidate for faithful recreation, and those who died after are *literally* going to hell. That would let there be a cutoff between the vast morass of faceless dead and the infamous legends of old. It's not like the damned are supposed to be building power plays in hell, they're a *resource*.
>>
>>60673276
Ok, cool. I don't think hell should have first emerged with a discrete power structure, its nature would have been as confused then as our ideas about hell are today. The politics of hell would have emerged as a part of their interaction with mortals. Given individuals- Satan, Enma- would have come into existence with the idea that they were the boss, but that would hardly have been absolute..

>>60673327
On the last car of my train of thought, I'm thinking of hell as being like fire- it's useful, dangerous, but as a product of us, its only philosophical meaning is what it says about *us*. A god is supposed to be wiser and better than a human, and we would have trouble creating one... but there's really no reason a given demon could not be all but an angel- a fierce punishing one, that belongs in hell working, but still.
>>
>>60673226
Well, at first blush, humanity probably needs some sort of inciting event to realize that they've been living in a universe where not only do souls exist, but that they exist within a dimension devoted to their exploitation.

One of the possibilities I've been toying around with might be the Yellowstone Caldera finally erupting, killing a massive swath of the population and generally throwing the world into chaos. Perhaps the feedback from so many minds entering Hell made the boundary between it and the "real" world thinner?
>>
>>60673152
>>60673175
See this >>60671186 it was established that there is a true afterlife. And I proposed >>60671777 that it is a conscious choice to move on, to a point at least.

As for the source of the demons, I'd have to agree that, since mankind created them and only started to harvest their abilities sometime in a future setting, they have existed so long as fear has existed in the mind of mankind. They are as old as human consciousness, always changing and adapting to our fears and vices (ie demons didn't gamble or make written contracts until humans did). And thanks to the huge variations in human culture, yes there is an extreme plethora in variation of demons and demonic culture, since some of them would be from mesopotamian civilizations and times. But because of that, older demons tend to dislike their younger counterparts, much like older generations of man dislike their grandchildren's culture.
>>
>>60673464
I could see that actually.
Earth is developed to hell, nature still exists but almost exclusively in reserves and parks.
War seems inevitable between warring nations, the global economy is about to collapse, everything is going to shit and then...
Boom. Yellowstone goes off.

In the aftermath, sightings begin. Then those most sensitive to hell (Sorcerers-to-be and the strongest psychics) begin having visions, some are driven to perform rituals. All sorts of nasty shit. More and more of these beings. Humans fire first.

The rest is history.

>>60673426
Hell is the mirror of the best and worst of us.
Slavering, mindless monsters alongside Wise, Kindhearted and ancient demons. It all looks like fire and brimstone, blood and skulls. But the beating heart of mankind is underneath it all. And the limitless potential of the human spirit given a free license to go apeshit. Freedom is law.

United, Post-Hell Earth should be a democracy imo.
>>
>>60673499
You suggest that the damned souls in hell are holding on because they can't let go? That they are subjecting themselves to pain because they want to still be part of this world? How Buddhist/meaningful/philosophical. I like it. But that means that only evil souls stick around, or are rewarded with a chance at resurrection.. now I don't like it.

>older demons tend to dislike their younger counterparts, much like older generations of man dislike their grandchildren's culture.
I was thinking exactly this, imagining a string of demons, each created by a successive generation of the same culture, each being annoyed by the next.
>>
>>60673550
I dunno about a *natural* disaster.. Maybe something more like that gate accident from Cowboy Bebop? If technology is supposed to interact with human psychic energy and hold damned souls in the "present", then a technological event could flip the switch- although it should be dramatically catastrophic, for sure. Never mind Doom, Mars is too far away. But a giant explosion that disfigures the moon and floods the earth with strange radiation, when an effort to perform spacial transforms in low gravity inadvertently sites a certain process outside sufficiently-dense masses of psychic energy for the first time....
>>

It’s not even a hack at democracy, I love democracy, but what system allows for the organization of very disparatw, vocal groups, all of which engage in around-the-clock conflict while giving each individual the freedom to fuck up and engage in vices almost without limit?

I was thinking that, due to mankind making a demonic deal, any soul is able to choose to stay, but I'm sure it would tend to be less-than-good men that wanted to resurrect and reek more havoc on the mortal planes. But on the other hand, I do like the more philosophical aspect that you brought up, having the "bad" people be the ones who aren't satisfied and wish to remain in the world.

I like the idea of a catastrophic situation involving the moon, but I'd lean more towards the center or the moon accidentally holding some sort of portal that has formed due to blaming the moon for eclipses for millennia, especially (pre-spanish) Latin American cultures doing things like human sacrifice.

>>
>>60675791
I have an idea. Let's say that in using infernal magic, you use your own sin to fuel it. The thing is, sin is actually a tangible resource. The ironic thing about this is that in the midst of doing unholy shenanigans, you are actually becoming a better person. To counteract this, those who it applies to are given constant psychological testing to prevent them from becoming sinless.

Those who do become sinless are what began the heaven group talked about earlier in the thread, and seek to have other become as them. The Hell-Earth government sees this as an sickness rather than a moral choice.
>>
>>60676885
>In the midst of doing unholy shenanigans you are actually becoming a better person

I don't like the moral implication here.
If I sacrificed someone, then used the sin generated from that action to cast a spell, I'm not a better person because the energy from the ritual has been spent.
That person is still dead, the pain I introduced into the world is still there. If anything this would encourage serious ruthlessness.

It's mana with another name and I'm not sure about that direction.
>>
>children are regularly sacrificed in various rituals
>an industry focused around providing people with convenient sacrificial children forms
>there are human ranches dedicated to produce kids as quickly&cheaply as possible, ranches dedicated to producing organic children for those that want their sacrificial offerings to be free of genemods and growth encouraging chemicals, ranches dedicated to producing kids of specific gender and/or ethnicity, etc.
>of course there are always those that are opposed to human factory farming and prefer to either catch wild (as in non-farmed) children or breeding their own sacrificial kids

There is a lot of ambiguity on the morality of Corrupted Earth and how Hell-Magics work, so before we go forward, let's tack all that down, that good?

I would personally like it, to the point of personal bias, if corrupted earth is not a comically-evil cesspit, with room for geniunely good people, even nice and sociable demons.
Some might say like I'm missing the point, but hey, who said everyone in Hell deserves to be there?

As for magics, I like the angle where the *act* of sacrifices and ritual has power, not simply because the demons can hand it out. Sacrifices towards a specific demon however, no matter who it may be, that being your qt imp girlfriend, or the Prime Director at Infernal Affairs at the Pentagram, can offer specific boons.

Either way it needs further discussion.
>>
>>60681851
But aren't the demons telepathy based? Wouldn't mental sacrifices be more important than anything else? Like you strap a bunch of people into a torture pod to make your demon lord OP.

It could also be why psychic humanity BTFO Hell in the first place. Telepathic humans and AI can project a null amount of psychic force. For demons this is like pumping air instead of blood through a circulatory system. It fucks them up.

Zen thoughts debuff Hell basically.
>>
>>60682350
>>60681851
Well what if our lawyers have out-lawyered the demons (as described in previous threads) to no longer need the sacrifices. Now that hell is under not only our "control," but is also rather common knowledge and often interacted with, it is now sustained by its constant contact with the mortal realm. It no longer *needs* to feed off the fears and vices of our subconscious, as we now freely partake in sin and vice due to changes in societal perceptions of such things. Demon-run brothels are not uncommon, and they boast the guarantee of no std's and getting exactly what you paid for, while other demons run giant fighting arenas where men may act out their wrath and hatred upon one another without any real consequences. Other demons cover the other deadly sins as well, like gluttony based buffets where you can always eat and never get full, plastic surgery boutiques where can achieve your "perfect" looks, giant casinos where you'll find yourself spending days at a time trying to get rich, hotels where you lounge around for weeks without getting bored. I'm only missing pride I believe
>>
>>60682878
Well, Lucifer's sin was that of pride.
And that works wonderfully.

Because all of this, 'owning' hell, 'taming' our fears, becoming great and powerful dark sorcerers and claiming the ultimate moral authority by damning the souls of those we judge guilty, all of this is Pride.

The greatest of all Sins, not in evil, but in power.
>>
>>60683204
The entire system, the entire world, it's culture, it's people, is all the ultimate representation of Pride.

Yea, I'd prefer to avoid too much of things like >>60678504 because it removes any moral ambiguity about the society if they're committing mass slaughter of innocents every day as a general rule.

I say that sacrificing anything, people or otherwise, for Infernal Power, has to have some kind of personal connection to the person making the sacrifice in order for it to have any meaning. So "industrial-scale" sacrifice is useless - a hundred thousand cloned children killed is worth far less than, say, burning a photograph of a treasured childhood memory, because the photograph has value to YOU, the person making the sacrifice.

It's also the case that, with humanity and demonkind already operating together as a singular society, that what >>60682878 said should definitely be the case - society in general is already "corrupted", meaning most demons are content to simply keep the wheels of Vice turning as they are. The status quo is beneficial to both demons and humans, which means demons are LESS likely to try and push humans beyond the point of "sustainable" Vice, because that disrupts what's already working. Why convince a human to, say, go on a killing spree to feed his Wrath, when you could convince him to join the Wrath-powered military? Better for humans, better for demons.
>>
>>60683204
>>60683216
I hadn't even considered that for pride, but by gods does it work well.

>>60683256
I do like the idea of personal sacrifices that you bring up, so perhaps overlap that with my idea so that the demons are happy running their little centers of vice and sin, but if a human wants something in particular, they must do something of personal significance to pay the demon they're forging a deal with. So say I wanted to be a wielder of the infernal magics but I don't have a particular inborn talent towards it, so I make a deal with a demon of some sort and pay them with some sacrifice of personal importance. So in exchange for now being a fairly decent magic user, I've had to forsake the family I've been close to all my life, perhaps even having to leave my kids' life forever. Of course different demons want different things so perhaps one can "shop around" a bit if they're request isn't of particular importance in time frame, but those who need something as fast as they can possibly get their hands on it, they'll likely take a less advantageous deal on their end for what they seek.
>>
>>60683429
Yea - back in the day when even finding a demon to summon was difficult, sure a demon could get away with asking for killing a virgin on the night of the new moon, but now that there's an open market for Demonic Pacts anyone who asks for human sacrifice is likely to get undercut by an up-and-coming Imp who's willing to do it for the blood of 3 black cockerels any night of the week.

The following is an abridged excerpt of 'Hell and Metaphysics: What we Know' by Jeremiah Blank written in 2204 on the nature and history of Hell as we know it.

>What is Hell?
Hell is a metaphysical realm, born from the suffering and anguish experienced collectively by mankind in the Atomic War of 2167 following the Global Economical Collapse of 2166, and since sustained by our collective emotions, and given shape by our interaction and acknowledgement of it.

>What are Demons?
Demons form the overwhelming Majority of the Population in Hell, and are born as a reflection of mankinds best and worst features, and molded by our expectations. The total number of Demons is unknown, and could potentially by limitless. At time of writing the World Government recognizes roughly 16 Billion Demonic Citizens living on Earth, it's colonies, or in Hell itself.

Maybe that's why the world turned into a one world type of empire post demon contact? Someone has to regulate everyone satisfying their vices or productivity will grind to a halt.

Demons probably get the shit taxed out of them. And that's part of the "the system is pride" thing. Maybe humanity is taking it too far with regulation and control? Maybe in trying to control demons what humanity has really done is sacrifice freedoms on the altar of pride?

Lucifer was pride and the boss of old hell, and now humanity is boss of new hell and doing pretty much the same thing. Demons just pay in dollars instead of souls.

Has anyone talked about what the psychic worlds of other aliens races could be like?
>>
>>60683576
>The War with Hell
To speak briefly on the topic, Hell opened up after the Atomic war of 2167, and Hellmouths opened up all over the world, disgorging armies of unorganized, beastly demons without a proper military.
These Demons were wild, barely formed things that only served the 7 Princes of Sin on a wholy instinctual level.

8 years of war followed, before the realization by both the remaining Earth Governments and the Princes that the war would only end in the extinction of both parties, as the death of mankind would result in no human emotion to fuel hell.

The two parties would then join forces, and began the recruitment of Human Psychics for a truly monumental plan.

>The Council of Fire
The Council of Fire was the first true Sorcerers Lodge in History. Formed by hastily recruiting hundreds of Human Psychics (Technically all Humans are Psychic on some level, but 'true psychics' are the only ones who can become Sorcerers.) And then putting these recruits to work under the tutelage of the Princes and the Demonic First Order of Pride, formed by the most powerful Magic-Wielding Demons at the time.

Their goal?
To subdue the unruly, beastly hordes of Hell and install 8 Seals, each under the management of one of the princes, and the 8th and greatest under the control of a now-unified Earth government. The seals, each held in a truly monumental tower, would 'define' hell, and gift to the plane of Chaos stability in a political and metaphysical sense.

The construction of the Towers took Decades, far longer than the war itself took, and upon completion and subsequent activation of these Seals, Hell was transformed into the Realm we know today, where within the range of the seals, physics and time act in a consistent manner, and the demons born therein are reasonably intelligent, a far cry from the slavering monsters of yesteryear.
>>
>>60683498
Exactly, no one is gonna do it for something ridiculously easy, but the market is definitely alive and thriving as demons try to make minor deals for reasonable prices. This would also likely have a side effect of loan shark demons who lend money or something and require a bit more as payment from desperate humans

>>60683616
Yeah I like that direction, the pride of humans makes us try to control our literal demons with a ridiculously high degree of red tape. We have tomes upon tomes of laws and tax codes regulating human-infernal contracts.

As for the aliens, we only have three basic concepts and whatever we've talked about in the thread like battle preist crab people
>>
>>60683576
>>60683619
Worldbuilding gold man. I love the idea of the seals that stabilized hell as a plane, which helps the newer formed demons in their own creation. Outside of the princes and some of the eldest greater demons, the new demons are the equivalent of genetic supersoldiers compared to the legions of beastly demons before them.
>>
>>60683619
>What happened to the Council and First Order?
Both Council of Fire and First Order of Pride were dissolved after the activation of the seals due to internal conflict and the sudden dissapearance of Leading members.

Afterwords however, Sorcerer Lodges and Magic Colleges would spring up, some lead by original members of both groups.
Most notable is the College of Babel, whose greatest contribution was the discovery of the 6 Laws of Magic.
>The Origin of Species
Following the Stabilization of Hell, Demons began to emerge in proper 'Breeds' and Races.
Imps, Succubi and Incubi, Oni, Ogres, Behemoths, Baphomets, Fiends, Devils, Shadows, the blistering diversity of Hell began to emerge.

And many of them were asking for citizenship and rights.

That's all I got for now.
I wanted to try my hand at solidifying some backstory for the setting, amongst other things.

Y'alls thoughts?
>>
>>60683813
See >>60683807 for the 1st two posts, but I like the idea of specified breeds of demons instead of my genetic supersoldiers idea quite a bit better
>>
>>60683616
This is mostly good, though I would say we should keep the idea from the original thread of "nobody is sure who conquered who" - having humanity be the obviously dominant side of this new system takes away from that.

I much prefer a "hell is empty, and all the demons are here" take, where any governing or regulatory body is made up of equal parts Demons and Humans, with no organizational distinction being made between the two.
>>
>>60683876
I like the idea of humans being the de jure rulers but demons having a surprising amount of power of their own in practice.
>>
>>60683876
Not him but I'll agree to that. The pride is that we *think* we have the upper hand despite it being a fairly level playing field. As for the hell is empty, I rather prefer the idea that hell and the human empire are connected in several locations with both denizens living freely in both realms. Hell is also used to shorten travel time within the empire

Take a look at avatar: the last airbender for a highly rigid system like you're suggesting.
In the setting, the different tribes' abilities were gifted to them by forces of nature, and unless you shared an ancestor with them, you couldn't learn other tribes' techniques.
There was an episode that seemed to fly in the face of this, however.
In this episode a master fire-bender taught his apprentice nephew what he had learned by studying water-benders' techniques, and how that enabled him to shape lightning as it flowed through him like a torrential river.

I know this is a shitty example, but I feel like it's how nether portals in minecraft work. Hell is a relatively fixed plane in its size, but within it there can be several methods of teleportation (portals, circles, etc) within hell to various points within the empire
>>
>>60684386
I bring up nether portals because of how if you make another portal within the nether, it let's you out way further in the overworld than the distance covered while in the nether. So you go into hell at point a, walk half a mile and use another portal, having covered several lightyears worth of distance in the few minute walk

I think a hive-minded race with a gestalt consciousness is too obvious of a possibility in a galaxy full of races with unique psychic powers.

One race develops powers that connect the minds of psychics, so everybody with a gigawatt brain ends up connected in this collective consciousness. Initially the psychics only heard and saw each other's thoughts, but as the population grew the gestalt consciousness evolved into a full-fledged sentient being on its own that overrode the psychics.

Hell (and the other "afterlife" worlds created by alien races) link to all over the universe and beyond. In fact to go FTL in this setting you have to pass through an afterlife world. Which means any FTL race has met their afterlife.
>>
>>60690461
I can't help but feel like that ruins our new humans' shtick.
Whereas other races' spirituality and mysticism is intenionally vague and kept at arms' reach in the face of technological advancement, the humans' is so within reach that they basically planted a flag on it, and conquered it like a foreign country.

>>
>>60690559
Not really. Other races are going to have widely different interactions with their afterlives. Some are at war with them (they make weird copies of us called souls with all our memories that they stole!). Some are going to worship their afterlives and be ruled by them (a race ruled by an angel kingdom when?). One could be a simple minded race evolved from herd animals whose afterlife is an estimate of what they think tomorrow will be and nothing more. Prediction is the closest analog they have to imagination.
>>
>>60690223
IT HURTS
>>
>>60690769
I think we are getting a little too into the afterlife thing (a bizarre statement in this context, yes). First, we are saying that we see an actual afterlife beyond "Hell"? Well then, *never mind Hell*, let's talk about the real actual afterlife! And now, every race has a afterlife that they know all about? This setting's point inevitably becomes, hey, lets talk about the afterlife.

...As I wrote this, it occurred to me that that could be a plot point: Every race has a visible afterlife, and humanity is *occluding* theirs with some weird construct. That might horrify aliens, and give hell the edgy feel a simple construct lacks. That being said, it's still the case that the most important thing in your proposed iteration of the setting would be your immortal soul's eventual and inevitable destination, and instead of every race using their psychic specialty interactively, you get "Jehovah's Witnesses were right- In SPACE".
>>
>>60690769
>>60690461
Sorry Anon but I'm with
>>60690559

To paraphrase the first thread highlights, 'You don't need to be some high-and-mighty wise space elf to realize that this isn't some army you're fighting, it's a force of nature. It's dark, it's twisted, it's impossible, it's *wrong*.

Each species manifests it's own 'Psychic Choir', their own powers based off of that. And the room for creativity for other races lies in that. But Hell, and the cruel joke of an afterlife that it is is humanities thing, their psychic manifestation, what makes them unique in the galaxy.

And it's an insult to the laws of nature.

To take away from that diminishes the setting, which I believe is the greatest strength, that mankind isn't 'the jack of all trades' race anymore. They're a race of Dark Sorcerer Kings and legions of horrific minions.

Oh fuck off. The idea of a galaxy full of races armed with their own psychic afterlife is novel and cool. You idiots should stop trying to make it 40K but the Imperium has demon slaves. That's so fucking lame.
>>
>>60691164
What if the afterlife is a universal thing, all races end up there but it is, as long as the universe exists in its current state, unreachable, no one can reach it -full stop-

But hell is a threat to it. The nightmare pocket-dimension that Hell is a gaping, apocalyptic threat to reality. That's why aliens are so scared of mankind. Not just 'ooh scary skulls and blood' but the fact humanities rapid and instatiable hunger for power through hell risks *everything*
Not just mankind, but all that exists.

Whether they're right or not could be a big question in the setting.
>>

Can demons be present, or go off on their own, without humans?

I was thinking how fun it would be to RP a wisecracking, gun-obsessed Imp and thought, 'Hey! Having to backpack off of some summoner might suck!'

Yeah no I'm this guy >>60684386 >>60684453 >>60687234 so as I was trying to propose was that humans don't have ftl like the other galactic level races. Yeah I love the ideas for the greys and the space elves that tend to their host "planet" and I like the crustacean race me and the other anon kinda fleshed out. Having an afterlife for them ruins the idea that instead of having a choir, we have Hell. We don't have telekinesis or hiveminds or the like. We have creatures of death and sin that we brought into existence purely through subconscious psychic activity, which we then learned to come to terms with for the betterment of both parties without an obvious upper hand for humanity or their infernal allies. (ie "who conquered who"). Hell and its demons is singlehandedly our power

I imagine that, since this is future tech and some of the images and text posted in the original thread, the troops are in armor similar to halo ODST but use the tormented soul as a targeting computer (as previously mentioned with supercomputers and such), with the Twisted having armor made specifically for their malformations caused by the demonic taint. As for casual clothing, I like the idea of either the 20's or 50' American style, but with subtle hints to the infernal stylings of the demons. Flapper dresses where the bottom of each of the tassles on the dress are pentagrams, men wear lapel pins with artistic depictions of fucking succubi, etc.

The Similirgans is an aincent and fairly small avian species that hail from their home world Tloom. They have very advanced technology but the size of their empire isn’t that big due to them being located in a small stellar cluster just at the edge of the Galaxy. They are very good natured in general and generally doesn’t want to start conflicts, since both their faith and culture forbids them to lie, cheat and cause unnecessary harm to others. But this doesn’t mean they are all goodie two shoes, their traders and diplomats are experts at circumventing their strict dogma from their faith and culture by carefully twisting their words in order to benefit them and their empire. Their good tongue twisting and way of words might be due to a latent psychic ability that is used very passively.

Appearance wise they look like a mix of a Kiwi bird and an own, with a small body and broad wings that has small hooks that help in manipulation of objects. During the winter seasons in their planet they grow several inches of thick fur on top of their feathers, this makes it nigh impossible for them to move until their spring season starts when they start to shed the fur.

>>60669407
The Elere. Plant-esque folk who, due to evolving on a hyper-death world, confuse the absolute shit out of everything that tries interacting with them, as if they're living infohazards. Autopsies reveal that there's a body, all right, and that's all they know (if they even manage to realize that). Their vocalizations causes extreme nausea in people that hear them, before immediately forgetting what they sound like.

As a consequence of this psychic pattern on their brain, their tech is equally as mental voids as them. They're rather early in tech development, but their tech is so confusing and refuse to connect in people's mind so much that they can't assemble it. Try to copy it, and you'll make some weird barely-functioning circuits.

The only reason they've been able to be noticed in the first place was because technology doesn't have the same problems with them organic beings have.

while I largely agree with your premise, I feel like certain aspects of Hell, like wrath, would be qualitative and would require exercising a lot of willpower, and some people would take to Heaven more easily and would be better suited just as missionaries. So it would be like the Ying and Yang on quality vs quantity, but one side is purely good and another is as evil as the aspects of hell.

So the food is poor, service is non-existent, the train car reeks like shit, there is only one toilet and some idiot has decided to stay there the whole trip, you're seated among a pack of gypsies who spend the entire trip by screaming at each other/begging for shit/trying to sell totes-not-stole car stereos to you/any combination of previously mentioned things, the brat seated behind you kicks your seat every 5 seconds or so, and the train is at least 3 hours behind the schedule.

That actually brings up an interesting point: Is capital punishment and police brutality now essentially used for everything, if people can be pulled from hell?
>>
>>60705187
I think death should still have weight to it, it should still be scary, even if you might come back.

Your soul might slip through the veil and move on, you might get damned, you might not be valuable enough to pull out of Hell, and even if you're resurrected, you change each time, some of these changes might suck.

The justice system probably has the damning system worked into it, if you're put to death, on-sight Demons grab your soul and damn it immediately so they can put you to work as a suffering battery, or they torture you first so demons can feed off your pain or break your body down into ritual materials.

Do it like Dungeon Meshi.
You can come back, you probably WILL come back, but never give up your fear of death.
>>
>>60705187
If death just means a short trip to hell I could see long&torturous life becoming the ultimate sentence. Something like having all of your limbs, tongue, etc. removed and then getting hooked into a life support machine while some device makes sure that you'll spend every single second of next century or two suffering unimaginable amounts of pain. That or destroying criminal's soul permanently in one way or another.

Today, Lord Leviathan, Prince of Envy and Lord of The Sixth Seal began his vacation in the Atlantic Ocean. What could be a joyous occasion however for him and his followers was marred by controversy as outspoken Infernatheology and Enviromental Conservationist groups criticized his release from Hell.

Citing his voracious appetite is a threat to several endangered species in the area, and that his release from hell inviolates his claim to be the Prince of Envy. Citing ancient texts that state his imprisonment in Hell was his sole claim to hold the position, and that the undoing of the magics that kept him there is tantamount to Heresy.

Just throwing this out there not to stop anyones thought trains. But what if there was a set amount of decay a soul experiances in hell before someone truly passed on. Like a clock that once it hits zero you really do die the real death. The thing is infernal powers push the clock further and further back with every exposure. Shake hands with an devil thats an extra 12 seconds you would remain in hell. So someone is going to pay alot of money to make sure their soul is pulled out of hell by as someone as fast as posible. A common ritual for people resurrected is to go on week long binges to "wind themselves back up"
>>
>>60714930
And going off the idea that people in tune with heaven are rare and the goverment tries to cover up their exsistance. What if they are not considered horrible because of power that rivals the lords of hell but because they act as big sin erasers slowly winding back somones soul clock so they can truly pass on and experiance true death. How terrifying would it be to be a big BABEL Co. Ceo with a banging bahomet wife and kid at home and you have a couple thousands hours on your clock so even if somthing happened you could pay and wait for them to build you a new body to be brought into. When suddenly after you toss a few spare coins to a bum you trip fall down the stairs and break your neck only to find you have less than 30 seconds before you really die.

Bumping with a question.
What do you think Hell-earth's social media would be like?
You could have the sites we know today devolving into massive celebrations of sins (imagine logging into SoulBook and seeing in your feed the latest homemade sacrifice video by Now This!)
Or you could imagine a completely new form of social media , for instance, infernal computers that allow you by logging in (and of course paying a small amount of your soul as a yearly subscription) to experience telematic sins trough the pshycic web.
This is crazy, but imagine there's a special unit in the HellHumanity army made of soul-controlled drones. You pay the appropriate sacrifice to the Demon-in-command and you can indulge in your wrath by blasting the enemies of Hell and Earth with white hot soul-penetrating ammo, all while sitting comfortably in your room.

Is it too far-fetched?

Other psykers depend on personal power.
Human psykers can tap form collective pool created by whole species. If you struck a deal with Behemoth, thousands of armored monstrocities will pour from torn fabric of reality and crush your enemies even if your personal power can't create even an imp.

On the other hand, humanity's mystic powers are managed by entities who take pleasure in making humans fall and suffer (among other things). Most humanity's military defeats are caused by demons fucking up everything via fine print.
Also, it takes millions of dead humans for hell to start manifesting in given part of space. And billions for a grown hellscape spanning for several light-years.
>>
Maybe taking a look at the Craftwork Sequence is a good source for ideas: Immortal warlocks that eventually transition into rune-marked skeletons that feed off the power of stones and stars, contracts in triplicate that bind demons into service, and simple iron coins imbued with portions of soul as a currency.
>>
A penny of thought about afterlife in Conquered Hell. There are two components to it: hell-affinity (what other races call psychic powers) and your sinfulness.

If your soul is strong, you can become a demon after death. Human-originated demons are not as powerful as ones originating from Hell itself, but still can go toe-to-toe with alien psyker (even imps ann fight off a weak one) and are almost immortal. But if they die, they die. "Second-level Hell" is most likely a myth.

Weak souls become lumps of brimstone. It is said that brimstone has no consciousness and doesn't suffer when used as fuel. Screaming sound is a natural process that has no connection to actual suffering.

If enough (something to do with group psychic power) people think that you are a bad person who deserves suffering, you become a Tortured Soul. You retain your looks and get your own torture team and implements created by Hell itself. Even if you are forgiven or forgotten, it might take centuries for you to finally face oblivion.
Tortured souls are also used as fuel, but they are conscious and less compact (reactor core on superflagsip "Hitler" is half cubic kilometer im size).

Here's an idea...

To spend the last bumps in thread wisely, let's engage in some writing. It can be from any perspective of anyone or anything in any faction. Get creative, and give *your* perspective on the setting through the eyes of a character.

The prompt, to get things rolling is...
'A day in the Life'
>>

>>60711421
To deal with the whole "reincarnated forever" thing, what if the "pipe" that death provides between earth and hell is limited.

As your soul squeezes through, you loose pieces. At first you don't even notice. Maybe the first dozen times are nothing.

Then, you start to find that some things are harder. You lack motivation, desire, drive. Memories begin to slip. The world starts to fade to grey.

Your form shrivels with your mind. After hundreds or thousands of reincarnations, you are little more than a ashen husk. You don't remember where you are or what you're supposed to be doing. You just keep stumbling forward, until one day you fall down a flight of stairs...

And when you appear in hell, you don't remember enough to even pull your own form together. Nor do you care enough to try. Your essence drifts on the sulpherous winds of hell, still technically alive, but no longer able to tell the difference between this existence and true oblivion.

>>MFW this means we're getting windfarms in hell

Addendum A: Maybe this happens to souls with fancier shit/more notoriety faster, so the answer to everything doesn't just become
>> Go summon Leonidas and everyone who died on D-Day again.

Addendum B: To keep the reincarnated abominations proposed earlier, What if you could channel the decay, to stave it off, and make more constructive things, like Twisted, which can be reincarnated way more than regular human souls.
>>
>>60727440
I like your direction, but may I suggest that the "ashen husks" are the slave souls that some anon previously suggested, and the twisted are those that are in the process of becoming these slave souls, but they become walking hell warps due to how they were before or during death (ie heroic actions, being a great fighter/pilot, being cruel to fallen enemies, etc)

I’ve been away for a couple days, and I guess I’ve missed some discussion, but I was coming up with ideas, and I’d like to share them. See how they work with what you’ve got.
First, the physical set up- I want to add a little depth to the setting by introducing dark matter (Give it just that little edge of scifi). Every race works with it, it isn’t psychic in itself, and it exists as a semiliquid dust cloud stuff that has no effect but gravitational. That being said, basically every race has evolved swimming in the stuff, and being out of it is a little sickening. Humans’ inner ears don’t work quite right (even if psychic ‘gravity’ is being exerted), a number of chemical processes are impeded, etc. That plant/elf species grows in it and on it, creating immense structures reaching into space, and detaching too, to float to their moons, anywhere there is dark matter and sunlight, they grow naturally. Most races use dark matter for artificial gravity; if their system is crappy, it leaks, and this is of concern to conservationists.

Hellish material cannot exist for too long away from the energy of hell. The medium that mostly carries this is souls, channeled along hell-circuits. Thus, human structures have a gate to hell somewhere in them- either a physical location, or a virtual/spiritual communion that lets energy pass. The circuits are used for energy and AI- the ‘electricity’ obeys the commands of people, although it’s more complicated than speaking aloud. Any capacity that exists today still works, programmed voice commands still work, but to directly command the power, sorcerous capacity has to be used. A hellish material that affects the body can be maintained by the body’s own psychic field, even for nonhumans; so drugs ( for a *totally* random example) can be taken abroad, as long as its existence isn’t allowed to lapse. People carry portable reservoirs that can be charged up by being near hell-circuits, which I want to call hell-dynamos. Basically, I’m picturing all the stuff that nanotech does, charged by infernal power. Hellish power shines on things and provides influence; it shapes life like radiation does in a b-movie, but only nonintelligent life. Anything with a sense of awareness isn’t changed; anything that flinches or tenses when you bend down to look at it is disqualified. So plants change, simpler insects do, dumber fish do.
>>
>>60746770
Hellgates themselves shouldn’t be perfectly flat gates- I want a region that can be passed through in any direction, with an act of will to transition back and forth. For all that it isn’t perfectly flat, it’s being used as a door, so it should be disc-shaped in most instances, to maximize efficiency. If you see a whole region that’s passable, a major undertaking is happening, the transition of an armada or city or something. If you can’t see the thickness of a gate, somebody *really* skilled is maintaining that; be polite. I’m imagining architecture that extends out of hell. It isn’t *too* organic looking, but it is *grown*, out of the gate it stands straight up from. The structures can branch and merge and coil and flatten out. The gates don’t have to be on or at the ground, and most aren’t- the cities float a quarter mile up. Hot Hell winds flow out of the portals, and cause human cities to be the source of a constant updraft; storms grow out of this, and human cities are often shrouded in lightning. Hell’s light shines out of the portals on the ground, and actually does some good for the local ecology; as a heat source, animals cluster there in winter. This is complicated by the mutation of local ecology under the city; happily while not everything that evolves in these regions strictly needs the power of hell shining down to live, it is adapted for the local ecology, and so the hell jungles do not spread too far. They are constantly under exploration. Hell materials require a charge to be sustained, and here is a source of *very* exotic pharmaceuticals that are not actually hellish, but just as good.
>>
>>60746792
Human ships are not static objects. A bunch of modules are kept in the ship, from the medbay, to crews’ personal lockers, and every time a ship warps out of hell, the vessel is reformed, as its material is extruded into realspace, and the modules are shunted through the gate to be placed in the ship. The process is reversed when the ship ‘warps’ out. This means that humanity’s fleet is always in flux in number and type, and upgrades take basically no time. I want wounds to last, though; like, I don’t want it all to be *too* powerful, so maybe damaged portions can’t be shaped or portaled? Humans reach beyond hell’s limits by sending demons beyond the bounds in a ship nearing light speed, and then using an array in the ship to project a gate- formed by the demon’s power- to a far distance (~a lightyear) and porting in another ship. Because the gate moves with the first ship, it’s moving near-c. Then the second ship repeats the process, and so a handful of ships leapfrogs their way through space. I dunno how fast *shrug*.

As for people types. First you’ve got your humans- mortals with souls, whose psychic power comprises hell. They have various amounts of power, but it’s all bound up in hell, so no idea how much. They have a certain amount of intrinsic sin, of either mortal or venial extremity. They age normally or at a slowed rate, and die.
Damned are souls who die in extreme sin. They can exist in various shapes, or just as essence in a hell circuit. Whatever they don’t want, they get. They have no will. They are purely a resource. They have psychic potential and can cause things to happen, but never for themselves. They work off their sin, and eventually are reincarnated. There is a vast reservoir of damned, largely formed in anonymous image or the image of a famous person, because when hell first took shape, the superintelligent collective psychic consciousness of humanity peopled it with all manner of damned souls, because “hell has damned”. Even now, excess psychic energy forms new damned souls out of whole cloth whenever excess exists.
Purgatees are those souls who die with some sin. They have full awareness, rights, and can bargain for longer sentences in return for doing what they want. Most of humanity attempts to maintain a state of venial sin; it is their goal to work it off and be reborn. The fact that their attachment to this world represents the first step in this practice is an enormous help. Dying people are visited by an impressive array of specialists in the process, like priests doing sick visits.

Bodhisattvas are people who have attained a state of grace. Most people who manage to sever attachment to this world disintegrate into motes of light and fly away or die and then disintegrate, leaving their clothes behind, buoyed by their contrast to the pervading presence of hell. Bodhisattvas remain behind to enlighten others. They no longer need food, so their bodies shed all body fat. Their strength is psychic, so their muscles go lean, but not nonexistent. They shrug off radiation so their skin becomes translucent. Their hearts no longer need to beat, so their blood drains out of their skin, and pools blackly in their muscles. Their eyes block their enlightened vision, so they burn to ashes, and are replace by pools of lambent flame. They need no material possessions, so at most they go about in a simple white wrap. They feel neither worry nor woe, but faith and love. They barely remember doubt, so they struggle with pity. They are separated from the psychic structure of hell, so they have access to an array of unsettling powers. They may have always existed, even before hell was manifest; they seem attested to in stories of prophets, buddhas, draugr, and vampires. They are filled with joy, so they hum hymns as they walk.

Devils are those psychic manifestations of the ideas of sin. They are the ultimate damned, festering powers at the bottom of the pit. Their guards and torturers are the greatest of hell’s servants. They have dominion over sin; they are made of it. They send it, out into the worlds, to radiate and channel through hell’s reach, to corrupt and damn. They tempt, mock, and destroy. Their hope is to damn enough humans that the living one’s psychic energy cannot support hell, breaking its structure and releasing them. Even damned, they are mighty, and have a reach that extends beyond hell. And they are old, older than hell, it is sure. Even when hell was not manifest, they existed as power, as concept, and they were not weaker for it. One great devil represents each kind of sin, and their lesser lieutenants are formed in their image. The true shape of a great devil is still mostly conceptual, although it is how they are pictured. Anyone who looks upon them actually sees themselves, because they are part of them (an experiment where a tall man and a short one looked at one together and the devil was loosed to physically interact with something too high for the short man to reach yielded no information and damned everyone involved). Only the enlightened can see their true forms.

I want to reorder the sins. I don’t want to cleave to closely to Christian traditions. Like, pride is ok, but [greed, lust, gluttony, and envy-that-wants] should be combined, and [wrath and envy-that-destroys] should be one thing. Also I want to pattern each great devil off of a given human-sacrifice receiving god of old. So Huitzilopochtli, Kali, Baal, but I want to not take them wholesale, and I want to rename them, and be inspired but original, you know?

Demons are the wardens of Hell. Created when Hell was made manifest, they know your sins, they number your punishments, they have a thousand forms, they joined with humanity, and bred nephilim. They do not have psychic powers, although they may have an organic power (like spitting acid in an endless stream, or regeneration). Their understanding of humanity is informed by their understanding of sin, which is absolute. A demon cannot be tricked by a mortal; the mortal’s knowledge of their sin informs the demon’s knowledge of their sin, linked by the power of hell.

Asura/djinn/peri/ifrit/angels are demons that have attained enlightenment. They have moved beyond physical form, although they retain the shape of a mass of smoke and heat and hellfire. They can compress down into a shape, although it tends to have radiative fans or disks coming from the back. For the stronger ones to take a form small enough to interact with a human means their bodies become so intensely bright that they have to fold veils in front of it to keep the mortal alive. They, like Bodhisattvas, are separate from the psychic structure of humanity, and wield powers so great that the only measure of them is that they are necessary to contain the devils. Where the enlightened human is instructed in compassion by his memory of being mortal, there is nothing more alien to the human experience that an angel, including aliens; it is not safe for a mortal to be in their presence.

In hell, emotions hang in the air. One is psychic in their ability to pick up the trace of actions and words. Sadly, negative emotions linger far longer, reinforced by the background. For this reason, it is unhealthy to remain long in hell, or to rest there. Various forms of madness result. A typical form, also found outside hell itself, is mirroreye fatigue. Named for the fairy tale about a mirror that only reflected sin, it occurs when someone has worked too long in a position involving sin and, mentally fatigued, can only recognize people’s flaws.

There are two kinds of sin, intrinsic and corruptive. Intrinsic is based upon a mortal’s actions, and it is what they deserve. Corruptive is sent forth by devils, who spew it out and then send it along the essence of hell, like vibrating a structure to cause resonance damage. It can only take hold in creatures with a sense of self-awareness, and aliens and animals are not immune. Peri are on constant watch to fix the damage, but humanity’s ensconcement in hell has necessitated another approach: when a child become old enough, they are taken for blood purification in hell. There, where the ethereal is physical, their blood is run through dialysis, and the devilish sin presents as a black liquid, which is siphoned off. The intrinsic sin, of course, never leaves the body. For this reason, the two types are known as red sin and black sin. The siphoned of black sin has uses. For an intended purgatee without much time, it can be used to weigh their soul down. If concentrated, it cannot exist outside containment, and tends to physically destroy what it touches. This same process kills animals that accumulate it. It is absolutely a great sin to spread the stuff around. Bodhisattvas usually oversee the procedure.

Witchcraft is the practice of drawing upon hell’s power with structure. Technically this includes devices, but it mostly is used to mean words, gestures, and diagrams. Everybody knows a little. Demons know quite a lot, and this is their main tool in their charge, when they have no actual powers of their own. Devils are always looking to sponsor a warlock, to work their will and freight them with black sin. Warlocks have to avoid dialysis to keep their secret, or else find an underground provider; warlocks rarely last long.
Hellish structures smell of bitter tears.

It is possible, but logistically, and medically it is very difficult to do, like resurrecting the Dark Lord in the Harry Potter series.
You first need to go through a whole ritual of magic/psychic work, to ready the soul back for life functions. Then an adequate body needs to be made. This generally requires cloning the original from DNA samples. However, the rejection rate is quite high as the soul still interprets itself as passed on and understands it shouldn't have a body. It then takes time and several post operation therapy treatments to get the person up to full mental and physical health.
The process is possible, but it can take years and requires much effort and resources.
Yeah it's fairly expensive, but more along the lines of a medical procedure. Besides, most people are happy to forgo the cost, and live as souls.
The real question, is do marriages last after Death? Do they have re-affirmation services or do they just split up?

It make me think, should humans still have an instinctive fear of death, like every other species? Or would we, with all our knowledge of Hell, not really be too worried?
What would death be considered as an experience? Thoughts?

Some people care, some don't.
Some people have proud "pure" lineages, and scorn those who have "breed" with "unworthy" daemons.
Mostly people look at this as just kinda racist and a bit rude. We are a progressive and inclusive society, not barbarians. But what kind of traits would be carried over, and how would it change the person?
