>What is Mothballs
Mothballs is a gonzo, kitchen-sink sci-fi setting with elements of cyberpunk, post-apocalypse, kaiju stories, lovecraftian horror and old world fantasy. After a series of unknown disasters and poorly planned attempts at fixing them, the world was completely changed. Most of the landscape of Earth is a deadly environment, inhabited by countless deadly monster and mysterious occult phenomena. The majority of the population lives in massive sprawling megacities, trying to survive the siege from the horrors of the natural world outside. Meanwhile, the depths of those urban jungles crawl with dark mysteries: gangs of criminals lurk in the shadows, communities of poor citizens try to survive in those future tech shanty towns, and secretive cults worship strange gods far from the common eyes.

>Where did this all come from?
Moth Balls is a work of collective worldbuilding started after a roleplaying thread about giant moths and tax holidays led to the creation of a dark and bizarre world without guidance or direction. In the following threads more ideas were developed, but unguided roleplaying led to an aimless setting filled with stillborn ideas. So, in order to facilitate proper worldbuilding, a discussion thread was created.

>Where else can I talk about this?
We are trying to keep the worldbuilding to the threads, so that more people can see it, but there is a Discord server, dedicated primarily to organizing and keeping track of the lore
https://discord.gg/mMF3jMd

>How can I help
Just look over what was already done (at least the first thread, but the others are good too) and propose your ideas!

Now, I'm not too good at reporting or describing creatures, but I'll give it a shot.

Sometimes you might think you're seeing something in the corner of your eyes, or really far into the distance, a faint, barely visible humanoid standing motionless. You report it to your coworker and they give you a bored look and tell you to ignore it. Eventually, it goes away. you might be wondering, what are those things?

These creatures/things are what I call "Nothings" or "Not Important", it might sound stupid, but it gets important later.

at first, their physical appearance is a foggy, intangible humanoid figure that can barely be seen. in later stages, they become more solid, until they are fully tangible.

You can find them anywhere, forests, caves, underground tunnels, sewers, even megacities! (albeit rarely), but they're more commonly found in abandoned, remote places.

They will stay in your peripherals, or far in the distance where it is hard to see them, the more attention you pay to it or attract to it, their shape will solidify, they'll be more active, will approach you, knock things over, flicker the lights and be a general nuisance. eventually, should one give too much attention to it, they will become hostile and attack without so much as a warning.

You may be wondering, how do I fend one off? its simple! Ignore it, you have better things to do. They need attention to manifest. and if you deprive them of that, they're harmless, you may give it the occasional bored glance, but nothing much, if someone who doesnt know better is with you, tell them its just an hallucination and to pay no heed to it. Eventually, they will leave you alone. one can often hear what seems to be a sigh or a groan upon their departure.
>>
>>60784670
I hear that "Nothings" can make good distractions for larger threats, since apparently they'll attack anything once they grow physical enough. Maybe we could use this to root out some of the cultists in our walls?
>>
>>60784823
Yeah, but once they've obliterated everything in their sights, they either fuck off, or move on to something else, but large crowds scare them off. Not good with directions as well.
>>
>>60784858
> Not good with directions as well.
Then obviously we need to build a school solely to house and educate them for use as weaponry! Either that, or we build a giant raygun to burn the monsters out of our fair cities.

Everyone,
here's the VERY EARLY draft of a Feng Shui hack. I hope everyone enjoys it. Some other anons are working on a whole specialized system using dice stepping (ie., 1d4-->1d6 etc) of some kind, but this is one I was working on as a temporary placeholder.

There are some plans I have:
>1- expand the list of playable roles. Right now I have ex warden, ex ranger, techie, megacity cop.
>2- expand the foes list. So far it's just 2 bad guys--generic human mooks and undercity trogs
>3- expand the weapons list
>4- define some of the things mentioned so you don't 100% need the Feng Shui pdf with you, although you really only need to use it to look up talents and how initiative works.

I'll continue to pump out updates as my weekends allow. Thank you for any interest and patience.

Oh boy, I finally got reconnected to the net. A day or so after I got my genny fixed with those drone limbs I started experiencing connection dropping. Figured I should lay low and after double triple checking the drones for trackers and identifiers, resetting my routers and replacing my primary cable setup with more standardized kit I figured it should be safe to report in.

I checked a few junker forums and it turns out a few of my out of mc dwelling pals have spotted Icono branded drone heaps in places they likely shouldn't be. Apparently I was the only one wild enough to scavenge from one but what was I supposed to do? Me and them are gonna start compiling info and locations if it keeps happening.

Stay safe out there and if you see Salty throw him some scraps and let him go on his way.

Hey folks, just providing some updates about stuff that was discussed in the Discord. Feel free to discuss either in character or out.

>Yang Heavy Industries
It's pretty much accepted that, one way or another, Yang Heavy is a mega corporation in China that is fighting off the Flesh by deploying mega-city creating devices of their own. Question is- who's doing it? Is Yang Heavy run by hyper nationalistic Chinese capitalists trying to take back their territory, or by a rogue AI still fulfilling its purpose long after its former masters are dead?

>Magic
How the fuck does it work? Many ideas have been tossed around, but one popular one right now is that magic requires the user to both use heavy ritual components and appeasement of an area spirit- the caster might have to do favors, owe them a payment, or something similar.

>Africa
What's going down in Africa? Some people have suggested that the rapidly evolving diseases there have fought back the Flesh, and that the area has gone back to its tribalistic and shamanistic days and tendencies.

>Japan
One super popular idea in the discord was the concept of the Japanese taking advantage of their rampant kaiju population by livestreaming kaiju fights for the world to see. What kinds of kaiju fit into this world? (Besides the already discussed Arkeos).
>>
>>60786530
Kaiju:
Big. Ass. Cloud Moth.

Big. Ass. Angler fish. Tricks boats by acting like a light house. Attacks cuz it interprets city lights as rival mating display

Japanese helicopter carrier/destroyer home to a giant hermit crab

Giant japanese hydra snake OR Giant japanese salamander with absurd regen and fire powers
>>
>>60786229
I was taught by the Church in most things, self-educated in others. Though I will personally admit that the whole "giant raygun" thing stemmed form a nice man I met as a child going by name of "Hein".
>>
>>60786530
How much does a livestream kaiju fight cost? $10 for a stream, then place $50 on 1:2 for Godzilla vs King Ghidora this week?
>>
>>60786530
>How the fuck does it work? Many ideas have been tossed around, but one popular one right now is that magic requires the user to both use heavy ritual components and appeasement of an area spirit- the caster might have to do favors, owe them a payment, or something similar.
Seems good. There was talk early on of special bloodlines involved in hunting monsters, (associated with the US northwest area that has more magic than most other American regions), and I was figuring it could be some kind of thing created by a massive ritual that results in people who are supernaturally strong, tough, etc. Basically Witchers, except it's a bloodline thing and they don't have the Signs.

>Africa, flesh etc
Africa should be pretty fucking far away from Mu so I don't see how it would make sense that it would be a such a huge issue.
>>
>>60786717
>10$ for a stream
maybe if you split it with some pals, this shit is expensive man. Last month's special PPV 母の蛾 VS キングキングタラバガニ ! ! cost me some 8500 yen, but then again I had to use one of those third party mirrors and use some asshole iconocorp office shitter's ID info to get one of the high quality streams.

I do remember some stuff about Ethiopia fighting off a flesh incursion, so I reckon Africa's encounters with Mu should be pretty rare. However, when the flesh does show up it's a white walkers situation, with old friends and older enemies fighting side by side to beat back the incursion.

I feel like the defenders should be a little more eclectic than that. So you have your Mad Max boys, but you also have folks riding around on local megafauna ala the haradrim, necromancers riding around on skeleton borne palanquins and perhaps sleek Ethiopian troop transports rolling around, filled to the brim with heavily armoured shock troopers. Africa's really big, so it makes sense that it's people would have a lot of different ways to make war

Ranger Bal here. Still no sign of Ranger Hal. We're throwing a funeral for him next week. He's been gone three weeks now in the Great Forest, and around here that means he's long since bit the proverbial dust. Guess I'll be handling these PSAs for the foreseeable future. Lots of folks around today have been talkin' about the Yellow Serpent, which is a perfect way to transition into today's wasteland monster, the Great Glutton.

Now, Great Gluttons ain't like the other critters I've been talking about the last few weeks. See, Great Gluttons are what I like to call a "human fuck up." They ain't natural- they're an amalgamation of a bunch of other animals into one horrifying, deadly, and frankly stupid mess. These guys are a product of a series of terrible ideas, all at the hand of a certain priesthood of a certain exiled Power that may or may not be represented by a certain primary colored reptile. That's right folks, these things were created by followers of the Yellow Serpent.

Back when Cloud Moths were first starting to become a problem and infesting the ever-loving hell out of the Great Forest and the cities surrounding it, the priests of the Yellow Serpent, as they do, found themselves with a BRILLIANT idea. They wanted to artificially engineer an animal that would drive the Cloud Moths away- scare the hell out of 'em, and preferably kill a few while they're at it. So they threw a couple of ideas at the wall, and this is what they came up with- a genetic GUMBO of bear, wolf, rhinoceros, and badger DNA. The end result is what we now know to be Great Gluttons. Fortunately, they at least weren't stupid enough to give these things wings- the idea was that they would CLIMB to Cloud Moth nests (hence the bear DNA) and eat their eggs, and any stray Cloud Moths that might be around.

(1/3)
>>
>>60795824
There was one last finishing touch they decided to toss into the pot before they started serving these critters up, though. See, there was some concern that the finished product would find getting to Cloud Moth nests too troublesome and settle for other prey, or just find one nest and camp it out for a consistent food source. So they did the logical thing, and supplanted just a tiny little bit of Great Wahoon DNA in there. If you'll recall, Wahoons have a VERY powerful digestive enzyme that makes sure they can eat whatever they want, right? Well, that's what they were going for, except they had a very different goal in mind. Essentially, combined with that enzyme and some other genetic tomfoolery, the Yellow Serpent priesthood found a way to make Great Gluttons ALWAYS HUNGRY.

That's right. They never experience fullness, EVER. Imagine the hungriest you've ever been. Now multiply that by ten times. That's what a Glutton feels every waking second of every day. Sounds like a great idea, right?

Well, they release these guys in the Great Forest and problems immediately start occurring. Settlements on the border of the forest are getting absolutely blasted by these things not even a week after they're released in the wild. They're eating literally whatever the hell they can find, as long as it's organic. Considering the sheer power of the animals they mixed together, just one Glutton was usually enough to take about 50% of a small settlement's population. This continues for a couple of weeks, and the Yellow Serpent priesthood tried to damage control by hunting these things down, but no such luck- the damage was already done, and they were too spread out to find with any relative consistency anymore.
>>
>>60795843
So let's talk about what you can do to deal with one.

Great Gluttons can get up to 15 feet tall as adults, so they tend to leave a pretty big trail of destruction. If you see half-eaten trees, claw marks six inches thick, and stop hearin' birds, you're probably pretty close to one- and that means it's time to turn back. But should the worst come to pass and you see one, best thing I can tell you is to either run or hope to distract it with something that it might deem a better meal. They tend to eat prey alive- not much patience on these fellas.

Their skin is seriously thick, and bullet resistant, so bring high powered and armor piercing rounds if you're worried about encountering one. They tend to have a very basic strategy for catching prey- charge as soon as they see something move, claw it or bite the every loving hell out of it, and then eat it. If you've ever seen a rabid animal, that is pretty much what you can always expect from a Glutton. Luckily, there are very few of them left, as far as we know, since breeding between two of them is pretty unlikely (one takes a bite of the other during mating, then it's a whole thing), and what few are left seem to have migrated up north to Canada. They've got thick fur coats, so the weather probably suits 'em better.

Alright, that's it for today. Until next time- uh.... stay safe out there? Yeah, that sounds like an acceptable outro.

"Is there any more we can do for them?" Cyndy asked.

"Of course. I'm prepping that now. It's a bit trickier to render in a good way because it isn't static data, rather it's real-time seismic sensor feedback. We'll keep an eye on the Worm Trail for anything unusual and inform them as it becomes relevant. After this I'll try to work in a render layer for it so we aren't doing it by hand anymore."

"What about that field?" Cyndy poked at the box.

"Ah'm gettin' there, woman. Patience. Or you can check the remote interfaceable static defense assets for me and we can get some coordinated multi-tasking going."

>grant access -u sb137 7 tac13_streamlocal

She gave a snicker at the friendly jibe "Coordinated multi-tasking? NOW you're speaking MY language!"

Poking the box and navigating several submenus later, "Says here there are three RI capable Shriek flechette turrets, smoke generators, and some acoustic containment transceivers."

The Researcher grinned "Oh yes. That'll do. Could you get Rudy, and anyone else interested in keeping that research area as intact as possible in here? We're gonna need to do some wrangling with these turrets targeting systems." Walking over to a nearby closet he pulled out a few helmet ensembles connecting them to ports in his terminal.

"Operator, 13. OP commences in T minus 10, Air Support is warmed up, ground units are rallying toward target."

"Roger "

"Can do!" She sent out an all hands message to those on outreach not on a call, specifying BYOE. She quickly composed a pair of personal messages to the researchers in question, who happened to be on premises, but not on duty that night.

Special: When shot with a ballistic or energy weapon (or similar), the Gas Bag explodes in a bright ball of flammable natural gas, the same that lets them float about. This explosion emits 5d6/4d6/3d6 Fire damage (character scale) in 5/15/30 meters.

From the Ranger's Handbook:
"Gas Bags are not a particularly violent species, but due to their near-silent movements and tendency to rapidly float about they frequently surprise unprepared individuals. In isolated communities, Gas Bags have been pseudo-domesticated, placing them in pens and connecting valves to their skin. During winter, a single gas bag has the equivalent of 1 months heat for a 1,400 sq. foot homestead. Such gas bags are typically raised in captivity, and fed diets of rotting flesh to raise the natural gas content. Extreme caution must be used to prevent accidental explosion or over feeding, since it can cause them to explode."

>In the field.

"Alright, kid, let's start her up!" Hank yelled as he finished adding some more pipe to route gas from the tanks in back down to the brakes.

"Like, now?"

"Unless you'd like to push your truck there... Yes. Now."

"Okay... Here goes." Todd mumbled a prayer under his breath before giving the key a twist, waiting for something to break.

A sound that never came. The engine sounded great in point of fact. Better than great.

"What''s with the sound?" Todd wondered, it felt different too. He put the truck in gear and pushed down on the pedal as he normally would, and the truck launched forward.

"WHAT THE FUCK, HAAAANK?!"

Hank came running up to the truck, laughing profusely.

"I told you, man, your old man tuned that thing something horrible. Probably to keep you from doing something like that. Kid gloves are off now. Think you can handle it, or do I need to drive?"

"No.. I'll do it. Just... Jesus. I didn't know you could do that to a car."

"Welcome to the arcane world of tuning. Kiss your financial security goodbye if it becomes your thing. The things you can do nowadays would blow your mind."

"Enough talk, Comrades." Dmitri barked, "Air jockeys underwear in twist over Cloud Moth proximity. OP will be starting soon. Make with 'saddling up' Hank."

Dmitri climbed up into the back of the truck and checked the weapons of his ATV, which was tightly locked down to the bed of the truck, nestled between the two tanks.

The ATV's were a marvel in their own regard. Rugged. Fast. Dangerous. Capable of mounting a surprising amount of gear, provisions and weaponry onto such a compact frame.

Hey guys, your friendly neighborhood Rotjaw breeder here again with exciting news! So I was doing a bit of tinkering with the genes of the fourth generation hold backs to see what I could get to stick with e next batch and one of them has gone through a metamorphosis that I can only describe as miraculous. Pic related. I think I may keep this new design for the next batch, I mean just look at this thing! With all of the modifications I've chucked into it I think is beast could even match a carnotaurus or a great glutton in combat. Any suggestions from my fellow bioengineers, geneticists, and researches to improve on the design are welcome. To give you an idea of current modifications I've compiled a small list of what's going on currently with this one:
-additional pair of powerful forearms to assist in feeding and digging
-shortened neck and jaws packed with dense muscle to increase bite force by an (estimated) factor of three
-thicker hide sporting serrated scales and ostioderms to act as a deterrent against physical assault
-partially retarded metabolism to better stave off starvation/attacks on smaller prey (read: us) out of desperation
-enlargement of Jacobson's organ to enhance olfactory senses

I've been toying with adding lace monitor genes to the next generation to increase potency in the hemorrhagic effect addition to the necrotic effect but I'm still on the fence, thoughts lads?

"Wow! Awesome! The maintenance easy?"

"Gun does not complain. Grandfather said needs to be fed with blood of Chechens... I do not know what he is meaning, but I assume Cloud Moth is doing well enough." Dmitri said as he fastened a harness to the secured ATV. The harness gave him an auto tensioning tether that offered him some mobility, but would keep him firmly coupled to the truck in case any unexpected maneuvering were to catch him unawares. There was also a strange tube which looked about the right size to fit on his sharpshooting rifle mounted next to the handlebars.
>>
>>60801762
There was just enough room for one man left behind the ATV, and a couple straps for the target to use to secure himself when the time came.

"Operator, 13. OP commences in T minus 10, Air Support is warmed up, ground units are rallying toward target."

Dmitri tossed a small unmarked box of shells to Chet along with a small device that could be affixed to his shotgun, and two pair of tactical specs.

"Let us be going, Comrade Todd. Drive me closer!"

"Alrighty. Ready for this Chet?"

Chet finished affixing the TAC link to his his 8 gauge, then racked the pump, chambering a round. The box of shells he brought, and the box Dmitri threw were clasped between his legs. He dramatically donned the oversized TAC specs over his glasses, "Ready, Comrade."

"Jesus Christ, Chet, don't embarrass me." Todd muttered, donning his own pair, and quickly familiarizing himself with the surprisingly intuitive interface. When he felt comfortable he had things set up to his liking, he GENTLY pressed down on the gas.

"Well" Todd thought to himself and the truck, "I guess we have about 10 minutes to get reacquainted old friend. Lets see what you can do."

"Rudy is on the way. You should get pinged by anyone with some extra bandwidth in the next 10 minutes."

"Alright!," the Researcher responded, the far off look in his eyes that Cyndy knew meant he was concentrating on something he was seeing on his implants even as he finished wiring things completely by feel and muscle memory. "I've just about got an interface scripted together to manage the humdrum of adding users to the training pool and removing them dynamically. Have them check into the portal at eh..... rootytootypointandshooty.agxtens.net. Spinning up the fire-control drivers and ML assist network. We're about to train some turrents."

Cyndy fired off the updated messages to be rewarded with a satisfying chorus of beeps indicating organizational acknowledgement. Once more she felt a pang of pride doing what she did. She'd run Admin for HeadChipped companies that couldn't get the kind of engagement metrics she could get with her people.

"Here." He handed her a helmet, "I can't get it on the wall, drivers are being difficult. If you want to see, you'll have to jack in with the rest of us when the time comes."

"Operator, 13. OP commences in T minus 5 minutes. Ground assets are in place. Proceeding with deployment plan."

"Roger that 13.Be advised, Seismic sensors are reading a lot of activity in your area. You may have worms. Will inform and update TAC map as soon as we get the logistics sorted out. We should be able to provide fire support and specimen suppression on leg two of your route."

"13 copies, Operator. Many murdercows have joined our target. Be feeding on Worms lured to surface. Just small ones at this time."

"Extreme caution is advised, 13. They may wander more since getting a taste for meat, but they are herd animals at the core. You aren't dealing with individuals anymore. The Redgrass won't help matters either. Keep sit awareness high."

"Wilco."

"Hey," Cyndy perked up, "I've got some more static assets available. Mainly loudspeakers and sirens at this logging camp, and a couple heavy turrets on a bridge here on the highway... I think they might be flak guns though."

"Not sure we can make use of those without Fire Warden support with all the Moth activity on the river. Chance of fire is too high. We'll keep it in mind though."

Two hastily dressed and harried Researchers stumbled into the room, "Are ve too late? YEARS of painstaking vork has gone into my babies..."

"No Rudolph, Beatrice, you"re just in time to turn a Caff'd up legion of bored or just waking up Researchers and a Targetting\Tracking Neural Net into the most accurate tactical insect Friend-or-Foe recognition system possible in maybe... 10 minutes." the Operator intoned, "Please do an awesome job. I want a Meganeura left to see with my own eyes."

"Mein Gott, not asking much are you? Come Beatrice! Ve must educate!", shouted Rudy as both he and Beatrice plugged into the VR interface and began constructing a training dataset for Researcher and machine alike.

"OP commences in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Air support, GO, distraction team, GO!"

And you'll have to wait for me to finish writing the rest. I'll give my best attempt at drawfaggotry to give a better understanding of the overall area... Again, it will take some time though. I promise the narrative will be as high quality as possible. Hopefully some of the gear I"be described strikes a chord in the imagination.

As always, feedback appreciated.

Cloud moth hunting purposes, exercising the limits of genetic tampering, boredom, the slow onset of insanity brought about by not having to talked face to face with another human being in this city for nearly a year and a half, any of these answers will do really. Hmmmm. I'd be worried about compromisising metabolic rates given your increased demands for energy with the extra set of legs, plus the cranial, spinal, and nervous tissue would be highly likely to be adversely affected.

Have you done a full panel of neurological tests? If those legs are going to be anywhere near useful, you should see significant increases in mass and connections in the motor cortex, hindbrain and other areas. You should also make sure you get well defined reflex behavior, and that it's sleep patterns, and basking behavior are in normal parameters.

Throwing in lace monitor code could be.. Very problematic. Venom proteins are fickle things. I'd look at running some folding simulations first in order to make sure the damn thing would even survive it's own toxin, AND that the toxin would remain stable in the first place.

Though... from the sounds of things, you haven't worked out the territorality if you haven't seen anyone in town. Are you their for each clutch birth? I wonder if they are imprinting.

Oh I've been running tests left and right as best I can without stressing the animal out too much. Motor tests have shown me that the arms are functional for rudimentary tasks but not much else as of now, not that I'd expect much given that this was just a test to see what stuck.

Neurologically and metabolically speaking the rotjaw seems stable at the moment but it's still too early for me to say if it'll stay as such. For all I know it might very well have a total molecular break down in the next few days or turn out to have the lifespan of a mayfly upon reaching adulthood. I'll have to wait and see I suppose.

As far as territoriality is concerned the gen 4s are actually the most docile batch to date. I tested it by sacrificing a bit of my supplies to draw in a scouting party I had noticed on the fringes of the city and the rotjaws only got aggressive enough to drive them off when they entered the nesting grounds where my main camp is set up. At this point I think the only thing keeping people from coming back is that they're worried that there'll be a repeat of the first generation incident or that the flooded district where the Gustaves have set up camp is too close for comfort. Also yes, I try to imprint on the hatchlings or failing that hang around to acclimate them to human presence.

Listen buddy. If the Powers didn't exist, there would be no fucking world for us to live in whatsoever, as they design the core things that enable reality as we know it to continue. Or worse, the fucking Forces would be in charge here, and do you want to be slaved to His Hungering Maw or the Gibbeirng Man for all eternity? No? Then shut up, and let the Loving Sky send white swans to divebomb Mu shitters into oblivion, please and thank you.

Holy fuck, you actually buy into that shit? The powers didn't even fucking EXIST until the world got fucked up, at least, not as anything approaching discrete beings or entities. Several records before our time actually note that we had the Powers pulling shit long before the Church officially formed. You seeem to be labelling under a misapprehension there friend. It's not so much that the corps are in bed with the Church, and more that the corps have been chained to the bed with fuzzy handcuffs and left there to think about what they've done.

If the Church and the corps were truly in deepest cahoots then the priests of the lost star would let Iconocorp take a look at the tech they've archived, but they don't. Priests of the Grand Wheel and the Cycling Song would help them develop new products, but they don't. Priests of the Dawn Hammer would work to protect corp interests, but they don't. In the end, the Church might help out the corps on occasion, but they don't do nearly as much for them as they would if they were 'in bed' with them.

>>
>>60808175
Not much has been discussed on them to be honest.

We're still working out some of the more structural "physics" of the world and major population aggregation points/conflict zones. Unless I missed a huge chunk of conversation somewhere, Europe (east and west) has had minimal fleshing out, and Africa is a work in progress that's turning out nicely in terms of that characteristic fucked upness that comes from being a mishmash of different culture and tech levels that, honestly, given how fucked Africa was before, the return of effectiveness of shamanic magics may be a great relief to them culturally, allowing for some stabilization to take place even though the world knows Fuck All about it unless a tribal shaman can broker a deal with a spirit to get an ancient Nokia to let him shitpost.

I imagine a similar phenomena may happen with Amerindians, but not to Shadowrun Great Ghost Dance levels. Nature now being firmly in the "Ultimate arbiter of sovereigmty", it may very well be the case that some tribes got their shit together and reestablished in life tribal lands as they were abandoned during the mass exodus to the MegaCities.

It doesn't mean they're nation building and in charge or particularly well off for it.They still have to survive the woods as best as "Homo modernis" can.

If you accept a "module" I shat out in thread (two?threeish), it kind of suggests in passing that there is some level of hostility that exists between the Fae of the Great Wilds of the Midwest, and some of the Native American traditional spirits. So there's definitely still conflict there, even without being restricted to the reservations.

Still WIP, and nothing I said should be taken as canon really, just... food for thought and set pieces.

If you'd like to maybe slice-of-life an aspect of Native American life, it generally helps to spur good integrations between things into a solid seeming world.

I've got a few questions for the ChurchAnons.

The Powers/Forces thing feels cool, and I'm liking how the Old Faiths are calling them on their shit as well.

What I can't quite get a feel for is what "the Church" means or plays out as on a human level.

What would being Blessed or Channeling a Power/Force mean in ones day to day? I know it was touched on in a previous thread, but I'm looking for the "Under the Dogma" details.

Like I assume the Yellow Serpent doesn't just result in spontaneous yellow snakes popping out of arms. Does a follower get a boon when pursuing activities even marginally related to getting vengeance? Does the YS boon cease after appropriate retribution is enacted, and overzealous followers just run the risk of YS granting a boon to their victim against them If they don't "finish the job"?

Is otherworldly wisdom conferred? Unusual "grace". There's plenty of material on "manifestations" and whatnot, but what are the "mysterious ways" in which the things operate THROUGH humanity? Seeing as those would be the most likely ways a player would be effected were a game to be run.

There was some discussion about the Utah/Colorado area (I think) having some kind of Native American forts, or something that looked like them, which I was hoping would get developed into some kind of native kingdom, but it didn't really go anywhere.
>>
>>60810522
Eh Utah I can see being Deseret aka Mormon Holy Land, and them converting or exiling anyone who doesnt fall in line.
>>
>>60810186
On the nature of 'boons', I feel like the specifics should vary from priesthood to priesthood. Like, with the Yellow Serpent I expect that achieving vengeance, not merely seeking it, is key to recieving a boon from it, but the quality of the boon actually changes depending on how much vengeance you've taken (so if many people had reason to take vengeance on your target you get a really good boon, but if it was just you who had reason to hate them then the boon is little more than decent). You might also have to properly declare a quest for vengeance at a shrine of the Serpent or something like that, but that's probably not how all the Powers do things. Some might be more lax about it, offering boons for people who do things incidentally, whilst others might reward people for working towards an overarching goal rather than achieving a short term one. Like I said, I feel it should depend on the God
>>
>>60810186
>What would being Blessed or Channeling a Power/Force mean in ones day to day? I know it was touched on in a previous thread, but I'm looking for the "Under the Dogma" details.
You can get all sorts of things if a Power decides to choose you to channel through. Say if the Loving Sky took you as a means to direct its power. You'd probably be able to summon any creature/bird at your beck and call and white swans would follow you from the air, trailing golden streaks across the sky. Or the Dawn Hammer could give you osme armor and a big fuckoff hammer and tell you to go kill shit. Or the Mourning Earth could have you channel the spirits of the ancient dead to gain more knowledge on certain things.

The Forces will absolutely fuck you if they choose you to house their afflictions though.

I doubt that the boons really fade away. They're more like a permanent addition to one's soul that a Power/Force can grant. This is good when it comes to the Powers granting their stuff to mortals, not so much for Forces.

>Is otherworldly wisdom conferred? Unusual "grace". There's plenty of material on "manifestations" and whatnot, but what are the "mysterious ways" in which the things operate THROUGH humanity? Seeing as those would be the most likely ways a player would be effected were a game to be run.
I suppose the Loving Sky and Mourning Earth could have a mortal direct some psirtis into their respective afterlives, or the Dawn Hammer could have you hunt down and punish rogue Far in order to ensure JUSTICE is preserved. Or the Endless Calm could use mortals to preserve waves, etc.
>>
>>60811357
>>60811398

Hmmm.

Good food for thought, though still a little too "Power/Force as agent" than "If you do it right people won't even really think it was you at all" for my tastes.

Then again, that just may be one of the schisms that divides followers of the Old Faiths and the New Faiths I guess.

The New Faiths bicker over which entity was trying to reveal what, the Old Faiths just shake their heads, say a prayer and go about their day, wishing the Church fags would do something useful.

I guess what I'm trying to get my head past, is that storywise,
>"The Loving Sky smote the Sleeping Flesh Priest"
has a lot less visceral punch than say,
>"Chi Zhou, the pious follower of the Loving Sky, held fast against the encroaching wall of Flesh as the Avian life of the region ripped and tore at the priest's summoned abominations long enough for her to deliver a mortal wound on her foe, causing the Flesh to retreat."

The former sort of focuses on the Power as the primary subject. The Power should be more of a set piece. I think?

The latter, focuses more on a human, with the Power being undeniably present to the faithful, and something undeniably weird going on from the Unbelievers POV, but the conflict is between the follower and the priest.

The "material manifestations" set up and frame the conflict as a massive clash of titanic combatants, but the conflict is nevertheless decided by the human actors. I see the birds/snakes whatever as more scenery or symbolism that tends to follow these Powers around. I'm wondering more about what a human follower gains. That "added soul stuff" if you will that would spice up a character rather than say, go into the history books as X Power did Y.

Am I making sense? I might be over thinking things.
>>
>>60812842
Youre actually making a great deal of sense. Personally, I always think of battles between Powers and Forces to be more like battles in Nobilis. Where one side is either trying to outwit the other through abstraction, or straight-up undo them through philosophical points and cosmic debates.

Their servants should have some reflection of this even in their own conflicts, but with more physical stuff being thrown around.
>>
>>60812842
Perhaps what the powers do is give then the tools for the job rather than do the job for them. Blessings and visions are perhaps the most independent the gods get, manifesting aid to those who have drawn their attention (this is less then being hands off and more a product of inherent limitations). However, priests get most of their help either from their boons or from the ability to channel their god's power, which is essentially a form of magic. Not obscenely flashy and in many ways as limited as the gods who provide them, but it's still something they have over those who have no patron. Perhaps this lets us make an interesting counterpoint in the Forces, who perhaps channel their power through human vessels, rather than offer it up for their use.
>>

I was seeing it more as the relationship between old and new being that the Powers are generally agreed to be inarguably real and active entities (though active doesn't necessarily mean shooting bolts of thunder and smiting unbelievers or something like that), but with the old religions seeing them as not being a part of the problem with the world, not fundamentally any different than the Forces, for example. The view would basically be that they're real, but not gods, and ultimately a threat, just not an immediate and existential one.

See, this jives for me. This creates situations where people will see someone with a problem a Power might help with on the street and point them in that direction. Maybe even goes as far as hunting down areas the Forces are manifesting in and doing combat\cleanup\consulting?

That's basically it, yeah. I could even see the Church being willing to help out the old religions from time to time, even if those would rather spergout over the Powers "being just as bad as the Forces" or some such bulkshit.

I imagine so yeah. The Church probably has what's effectively a military branch, a bunch of priests with more combat oriented boons who support the Wardens or the Fire Department against the forces of the Forces. I also imagine all of those priests have other duties outside smiting evil which fit in with the day to day work of their chosen priesthood.

you don't know during the Impact a giant mole-thing made his nest in the channel tunnel that connected france and the England, and the moles have been digging more and more, normandy is a no man's land and the few that lives here have special gear to stay stealthy and to avaoid to startle the underground beasts
>>
>>60828371
I reckon we should call the Church's military arm the 'Exorcists', if only cause we had mentions of Exorcists in the earlier threads. I'd also expect Exorcists from different priesthoods to be good at different things, seeing as it's unlikely that all the Powers would offer the exact same boons to their followers.
>>
>>60828347
We have Fae running around openly, and entire cities of meat trying to eat the world. A dragon-run megacorps isn't all that out of left field.
>>
>>60831052
It's too similar to Shadowrun, and far and other magical spirits usually stay away from Megacities, so most people don't actually interact with them. The bigger issue however was that some how DragoNet was large enough to have capital to take over Iconocorp, and that is just stupid. Iconocorp being by far the largest corporation in the world is an important part of the setting.
>>
>>60831387
>The bigger issue however was that some how DragoNet was large enough to have capital to take over Iconocorp
I don't think it was ever stated that Iconcorp was at risk of being "taken over" by its competitor. Just that it had something contesting it every step of the way.

I also odnt think it was ever stated that Iconocorp was the biggest of the Megacorps, most of which we haven't even fleshed out.
>>
>>60831605
>I don't think it was ever stated that Iconcorp was at risk of being "taken over" by its competitor.
I draw your attention to post number 60666795, the fourth one made concerning DragoNet, which states
> I think the only reason why they haven't subsumed Iconocorp yet is because they're trying to milk them dry first and seize what assets they can.
So yeah, from the very beggining DragoNet was being Hyped up as a bigger deal than Iconocorp. A 'competitor' is fine, but DragoNet wasn't written to be one. It was written to be a usurper, regardless of canon. Speaking of which, we should probably start linking the document containing all the currently canonical information, since Iconocorp is stated to be the biggest corp in the world in it.
>>
>>60832600
Personally speaking I don't even think DragoNet should even be a thing, or at the very least not very well established outside of cities that Iconocorp deems below its notice. If you think about it too many people would have either been directly affected by or turned off of through stories any sort of magical or giant creature to even consider working for one let alone doing buisiness. Not to mention the sheer amount of hoops a dragon would have to jump through to start up a business without being seen as a smarter than average kaiju to be nuked into oblivion. It's already established that giant creatures can be killed with some effort so it's not exactly impossible for that to happen unless we go the shadowrun route and give dragons stupid amounts of power which imho would just ruin some of the novelty of this setting.

I doubt anyone beyond the Church and Iconocorp has the capacity to nuke things on a whim. And the Church is too nice to do that without good reasons, and Iconocorp is so balls deep into its own insanity that I doubt it even knows what it's doing anymore.
>>
>>60832986
>I doubt anyone beyond the Church and Iconocorp has the capacity to nuke things on a whim
They're the ones a dragon would have to worry about specifically, hence my mention of one needing to set up shop outside of Iconocorps' turf. The world is full of shit that would be just as bad, if not worse than a dragon unless we turn them into nigh omnipotent entities like they do in shadowrun. I wouldn't put it past the megacorps or the Church to kill one either if they were to perceive a threat to their financies (disgusted of course as concern for the welfare of their citizens/followers) or (in at less the Yellow Serpent church's case) beliefs. A dragon trying to start a company would be walking on mighty thin ice.

>>
>>60836923

>>
>>60836467
Well, neither does anyone else sane. That's also why we haven't clarified what this chart is OF.

Give us some credit. The point is that any authority big enough to really do anything about it is stuck seriously contemplating whether they should or not.

We're just creating a basic setting, with a few basic elements from which to make a narrative to run a game. If someone wants to run a "kill the megacorp" game, kick ass. Run it. You want DragoNet? Run it. The main resistance among most people is that writing dragon run MegaCorps into a setting with cyberpunk and magic, and other wilds just makes it feel too much like Shadowrun with a bunch of extra googaws tacked on instead of Moth Balls: That Game from a Tax Holiday Shitpost. It's just too close for comfort, and frankly, I think people are liking the idea of a tabletop setting without dragons for once.

I don't have any authority about what is canon or not. I"m not saying there's even a system to determine what is. But the weird barometer that is A Bunch of Anons talking about silly things just wants to stay as far away from that particular trope as possible.

Iconocorp is a strange economic bogeyman at this point that hasn't been refined much. I"m working on a write-up of a couple other bigger players in the grand scheme of things that we'll be plopping into the thread as soon as we feel it reaches the level of "Quality" that this veritable cornucopia of creativity that is /tg/ deserves. .

Again, it isn't that we're out to gatekeep. We're bending over backwards to work in as many ideas as we can. That one itty bitty one just carries a bit too much baggage for anyone to feel comfortable integrating
>>
>>60837844
(cntd)

Some material that's been tossed around and received generally good reactions includes:

>Nomadic construction workers wandering the wilds fixing and upkeeping shit, aided by
>hard core post-apoc truckers running helping keep the last few connections between East and West America (down South through Texas-ish) going
>Railroad companies competing to either
>-hold onto Railways through the fae infested wilds, constantly under threat of being owned by fae, but equally fucking stubborn in the way men who sling metal outside all-day, every day tend to be.
or
>-recklessly engineering massive underground transit tunnel networks using Giant Worms (under development)... with all the hilarity THAT entails.

There's lots of room for more parties to intrigue, but in general, fae\mystical creatures and board rooms don't mix.

There"s been a bit more development in some areas, today, but again. Please be patient, awesome, and understanding. We hear you. We want this to be awesome. And we want to see where this crazy train goes while keeping "Quality" dialed up to 11.

And if I've overstepped with ANYTHING I said, hey, I'm just a writefag on the Net.

Hello, and good evening. I'm Ricky Sparks, and you're listening to KWTF 13.37 AM, your voice in the dark.

Tonight, we're looking to hear from you callers, about what's going on in your neck of the woods, but first some news.

We've gotten word that Britain may be figuring out what caused the sudden communication loss that has has seen them mysteriously incommunicado for the last few weeks. Word from their Ministry of Foreign affairs is that vital communications lines were severed in a tragic excavation accident that absolutely DID NOT involve any experimental moles.

In other news, word from the Great Forest that United Rail and Steelworks, bolstered by an incredibly lucrative round of fund raising has opened a bounty and recruitment program to help secure the Transcontinental line. Why aren't the Wardens you ask? So did we. Apparently they aren't willing to risk the losses they project they would suffer skirmishing with the fair folk. A high level source within the company believes the Warden's assessment is skewed by political pressure to maintain a ceasefire with fae forces, but their company analysts have also checked the numbers and found the risks much lower than the Wardens claim. I don't know folks, it's a mighty nice number to sign on, but I've heard things. What do you think?

United Rail's competitor, SubTerraFirma remains confident in spite of United's windfall. "Once our borers get the last hitches figured out, our transit system will be the safest in the country."

Speaking of SubTerraFirma, remember folks, it's Migratory Worm season. If stuff gets a wobbling out there stop what you're doing and wait til they pass. Stay tuned though.Old Riicky has the tunes to soothe the Savage Beast!

Let's take some calls. What's going on where you are listener's? OP's Ricky wants to know.

>Got a question? Suggestion?
>Want to complain about your week with a Moth Balls twist?

Number 13 I say as I toss the hockey puck to the far side of the hill. But its more a frisbee. You dont throw a hockey puck. Maybe the goalie I think as I pray it doesnt explode while I throw it. I regret throwing it. I dont know why I did. "Dont mis-handle UXO" the Ranger instructors would say. "Just wrong step and lose your toes" said the poster in our dorm, warning us on mines. And there were many, many mines, and I have far too few toes.

I think I did it because I'm frustrated about being trapped in a poorly markd minefield, which I feel entitled to be given the shrapnel and mild concussion and bloody rags from the fleshcron and the mine. It's getting dark. I like to think the bleeding stopped just before half a pint. Oh well, dont die here, in Misery, at Fort Lost in the Great Woods.

I put on my aviators. 7 years ago Ranger Hal told me that trick I remember not beleiving it. The last Hal anyway. Many psychic monsters have fear in common. They like night. Demons he said. Worshipped by some rural areas, he said. I think its sad that he died carelessly, much like I think I will. "Lola's dad died to a mine he threw like a fucking frisbee", it will say.

When you get scared of illusions they demons get stronger. See no evil, fear no evil, he said. Else they break your neck. Or your mind, like the Mind Melters like to do.

Unfortunately, that trick doesnt help with mines. But sometimes its nice to prepare for threats that dont matter.

I made that chart. Very slapdashidly. The illustration was really just to get the point that all the other corps out their have a combined market share much larger than icono and if they actually had the foresight to work together could push icono out of the picture, but would probably become the new mega, the new icono, in the process. Really it's just there as a not to scale reference saying Iconocorp has a huge market share and fingers in most pies, and the greater majority of people are just squabbling about too much with their own issues to really care or at least the direction and energy to fight it. It wasn't meant to infer anything defacto, just a visual aid.

Just a quick question about the Church: is it an international organisation? If it isn't, do other countries have equivalent organisations, or should the worship of the Powers be far rarer in other locales? Or is it a combination of the two, with some places loving the Powers and others despising them?
>>
So, weapons. What new weapon designs are floating around? What do gangs use? Machine pistols? Sawed offs? Problem solver .40s?
>>
>>60846633
>What do gangs use?

Wouldn't that depend on the gang and how&where they operate?
>>
>>60846633
The more well off factions probably have near future tech weapons like rifles using caseless ammo, airburst grenade launchers and things like that. I imagine that, since the new world doesn't allow for large trade networks, those kinds of advanced weaponry are very rare and expensive, most of them predating the collapse period. Simpler, modern day guns should be the most common, since they can be produced more easily by smaller factories. The low levels of the Megacities should have a large cottage industry of cheap, low-quality guns as well. The rural communities would be similar, producing their own guns, possibly even with more advanced tools like 3D printers if they managed to scavenge an old one or trade with a City.

For gun designs, gangs probably use the same guns gangs use today: small, cheap and concealable guns for the grunts, while the larger gangs have heavy weaponry like the drug cartels from Mexico or Brazil. Rural communities would use guns that are reliable and versatile, but also high-caliber in order to be effective against giant beasts.
>>
>>60846633
Short answer: Just about anything you want with the caveat that anything remotely resembling Arson or prone to causing fires through reckless use is gonna bring down serious (read: military grade or as close too as available) levels of Johnny Law on your ass. Fire is no joke in this setting. In fact, it's one of the things that keeps things challenging for humanity.

Looooo0ng Answer:
Left open to interpretation really. The main consequence of the atmospheric composition change is that anything capable of starting a fire is going to be heavily frowned upon using.

Shotguns will likely be popular given their critter popping prowess I've assumed 8 gauge to be the new norm in my writings, but it's also established that a lot of wildlife have started packing on the armor, so high caliber, high grain, generous charge weapons will probably be popular outside the city walls. Though by definition that type of weapon would favor mechanically simpler actions, or be more prone to failure with more complex actions without a piece made of the right high-quality/well-maintained materials.

As far as gangs and the criminal element go, that's an interesting question. And depends on a few variables you as a GM might wish to tweak.

For instance, at +30-35% O2 partial pressures, without an implicit assumption of some sort of Gene-mod or generational adaptation, a single person knockout would be as potentially easy as damaging a person's breathing apparatus. So petty crime would be able to continue in much the same way it does today. Implants may make stun guns, tasers, and jammers a more common thing to increase time until rescue.
>>
>>60847919
(Cntd)

MegaCity design would play a big role in "shaping" weapons availability I'd think. If you go the "Up, and Tiered" route that has been discussed on Discord, you have a nice blend of urban environments where American style segregational zoning will likely result in certain "loadouts" making you stick out like a sore thumb depending on where you are. The lower you go, the less security forces give a Fuck, because the powers that be have no fucking idea what the lower sectors even look like anymore. About the only "secured" places being the fuckhueg supports for higher levels, and checkpoints for transitioning between the levels.

As you go higher and higher, stuff like CorpSec, monitoring systems, high-tech networked implants, and other shit become more ubiquitous, and packing indiscreetly becomes a greater and greater risk in terms of avoiding awkward situations with Security or the populace at large.

As far as exotics go, there's a bit of back and forth on stuff like flechette being a thing. Most weapons of today are still around and makeable toolingwise with most advances being in integration with electronic systems like look-down shoot-down, smart-linking, drone/turret integration etc..

Oh, and no ATF anymore. So go nuts. (Outside the city at least. Inside there are probably views on that sort of thing.)

There was also some level of fluff surrounding the Ag Extension going out of it's way to provide communities with gunsmithing and reloading tooling for at a minimum basic firearms for survival sake, while Iconocorp tends to walk the path of the maker of weapons powered by Kraut Space Magic (TM).

Grappling hooks/launchers and extremely stubborn, colored epoxy paintball guns are a thing I plan on writing in for the multi-tier spanning fugitive if that helps any. Rail/Coilguns in turret form I believe were also mentioned.

>>
>>60841956
I still don't think they should control that much of the market, because I feel like there should be a decent number of megacorps.
>>
>>60848327
I recall the discussion being about the megacities expanding outwards in walled off urban cysts that result in the cities looking like a patchwork of zones.
>>
>>60848482
That was discussed too. I'm just trying and failing to timebox my posting because I need to do yard work today, so I stuck with the one I understood best in my head, figuring someone else would elaborate on the other. I imagine at some point we'll have to try either establishing rules for procedurally generating a MegaCity a la Traveller Sector generation, or just provide enough examples that GM's can just wing it.

This setting is taking over my loif.

In my nonprofessional opinion, it's probably a combination like you said. The Church seems to be much more than just a religious organization, and has little to do with old world religions, so it could be assumed that there's a lot of overlap in where the Church operates with other paragovernmental services regardless of local cultures, as the Powers and Forces are relatively new things. The Church mainly seems to be a thing that keeps the superduper natural and iconocorp from getting too far out of hand, or at least tries to. I'm sure there's a lot of clash with its attempts the farther out of the midwest you go, and it's possible that overseas sees its own organizations that serve a similar purpose, or don't and the powerbalance is skewed from what we would take for granted.
>>60847626
MothBalls features some very very advanced technology that even ruralites can have access to, though I wouldn't say it's common - I think it's safe to assume that there are some people, either loners or tiny communities that have gauss/lorentz, laser/maser, or other heavily computer assisted smart based weaponry. Certainly it's not common, but I would guess that bigger farms that feed megacities have a lot of automation and one surly extended family of farmers fighting tooth and claw to protect it and their yearly quota for all the citybux they can eat. My 2 IconoCredits anyway.

I did some maths a little bit ago, but most intermediate cartridges and larger should be able to penetrate a cloud moth's carapace, the problem being that bug muscles work through atmospheric diffusion, their whole body is basically a lung, they don't have a heart or anything. So really the best way to bring one down would be to cripple its wing joints while it was pretty high up and let its weight kill it upon impact. Otherwise whatever you shoot even its head, you'll have to basically pull a Trigun opening scene to kill it. The nervous ganglia of a bug aren't like a brain and they can function even with chunks missing, like its muscle tissue it just diffuses the oxygen ions it needs through basic gas exchange principles. So you literally have to shoot them to bits to make them stop moving, their limbs wings, body can keep squirming until it has been cracked open and the chemical exchanges inside it start to dry up.
>>
>>60849340
>A fairly new thing
I should say, a fairly new thing to the Mothball's setting timeline in its present day, it could be could be not that they were things way back down the timeline or were always in the background. I don't know. It's absolutely open to GM interpretation as I'm like 60% sure it's not established yet either way.

Same reason anyone wants to live in a Megacity - you get walls between you and the local nasties, and wendigos are a pretty big problem round there, specially in winter. But Quebec has experience in dealing with those shits, so it's decidedly safer than certain other cities that shall not be named.

They have that with the giants tho. Honestly, they'd probably do more harm than good up there anyway. Quebec exists in a very careful balance. Disrupt that balance in anyway and it'd probably be far worse for yer average joe than for the corps, what with the all out war and the horrifying monsters and such. They'll stick to fighting the Bois they can fuck over without hurting the little guy too much

>Shit greentext by Phillips-san
>Stop fucking with the greentext Chet, I'm trying to film here
>Gimme back my drones!!! If you break them I swear to God....
>Just chill, we got this.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1. OP is go!"

The drone rose for a better view of the ruckus below. Two dozen murdercows were now marauding around Anon's property. The home had suffered significant damage, but nevertheless remained capable of supporting the roof. Several could be seen staggering around having apparently discovered the liquor cabinet, and partaking of the fine vintages contained within. The sober carnotaurii could be seen pawing at the ground and occasionally greedily feasting on a "small" (If you call a 2 foot long, by 4 inch diameter worm with lamprey like teeth along its inner diameter, and one of the most hostile digestive systems known to man, small) worm, lured to the surface by the rhythmic pounding of their hooves.

The first distraction charge was set off in the woods, drawing the attention of only a few of the herd.

"Well, shit. The charges aren't working quite as well as we'd hoped."

"13, Operator, what the hell?! Are you setting off explosives up there? Seismometers are going a bit nuts."

"Is tactical necessity." Dmitri responded, "Air Support, go. No time for wasting." Two more charges exploded in the distance. The number of problematic targets was now down to 18, as a half dozen members of the herd split off in hopes the vibrations may have indicated a juicier meal.

"Roger, Wolf One, headed in for extraction." Sanchez could be seen giving a thumbs up from the side door of the helo. His ATV was idling amongst the gaggle of vehicles at standoff distance from the violent herd of beef and death; its mortar launcher twitching in response to it's rider's targeting commands.

Three more charges detonated as the chopper flew in over the house, and began its hover. 8 carnotaurii close to the house watched the strange machine hovering over the roof, as it played down it's winch.

"Moment of truth...how big an idiot are we working with here?" Todd muttered, he Chet, and Dmitri fastening on rebreathers in case they had to make use of the Nitrogen in the tanks. Wouldn't do to end up getting into a spot and dying from some fucked respiratory complication. He had stuck the picture of him and Janette onto the dash beneath the temp warning light Hank had installed.

As it turned out, Anon was not an irredeemable one; successfully managing to snap into the harness before even 2 more charges went off, though by this time, most of the stragglers had begun to return to the rest of the herd, drawn by the curious spectacle of the strange wingless bird hovering over the house.

"Operator, dumb question," Dmitri asked, his rifle shouldered and sweeping from target to target as several murdercows began positioning themselves between the helicopter, and the vehicles standing by, "Murdercow do not jump, yes?"

"That... has not been experimentally confirmed..." Dmitri saw an indicator notifying him that the Researcher had tapped into his visual feed "Why do you... Oh shit."

As the helicopter began moving in their direction. The carnotaurii closest to the flight path hunkered down as if preparing to...

CRACK!

The image shook as Dmitri expertly placed an armor piercing round through the skull of a beast that had JUMPED to feast on the man suspended from the helicopter.
>>
>>60871198
CRACK!

Another shot took out one of a pair of the jumping monsters. The pilot, taking in the situation, poured on the collective to get some height, causing the other beast to miss, but in the process, violently swinging the hapless Anon beneath the chopper, tickling the predatory instincts of the ravening death machines below.

"Son of a... You never said anything about there being a danger to the aircraft Operator! We are unarmed, I repeat ...."

The loud chatter of controlled bursts of machine gun fire could be heard in the background, as Sanchez began pouring lead into the herd, scattering them away from the flight path.

"Just keep flying, mang, I got your toy safe and sound. Andale Motherfucker!"

The drones, as was planned began to buzz the herd of angry rep-taurids, loud speakers pumping out German marching tunes, polkas, and as an added bonus, Phillips had rigged the last reserve flashbangs to disperse a cloud of concentrated RedGrass extract. Between Sanchez's plinking, the irritating drones dive bombing and tormenting the herd, and Dmitri's steady shots, the carnotaurii were sufficiently distracted from their hoped for meal for the pilot to get over the truck and steady the hapless Anon, who had nearly careened into a tree no fewer than 3 times during the panicked evasive maneuvers.

As Anon and Sanchez were lowered to the ground. A flurry of bitching, complaining and relieved cheers was cut short as the ground began to tremble.

"What the fuck?!" Anon complained strapping into the back of the truck as fast as he could, "I've almost been eaten, had my booze stolen, almost been turned into tree paste, and now a fucking EARTHQUAKE?!? How the fuck do you bumpkins live like this!?!?"

"13, I'm reading massive seismic upset heading your way, I think you might have..."

Before the Researcher could finish, a positively gigantic specimen of Megalumbricus Terrestris Lambere otherwise known, as the Great Migrating Worm, burst from the ground beneath a startled carnotaurus.

Seen from the vantage point of an incredibly lucky drone, the carnotaurus was completely ingested, and quickly shredded by the vicious teeth of this bioengineered monstrosity. It's lambere moniker, borrowed from one of the creatures whose genetic code was spliced into it, and roughly translated to "stone licker" being demonstrated to be more than earned as it rended the armored death machine that was a carnotaurus not long ago into nothing but blood and gore as the worm crested, and plunged back into the ground through what little remained of Anon's home.

"...Worms... Mother of God... GET OUT OF THERE NOW!"

"Go, go, go!" was shouted over comms as two more of the Giant Worms repeated the same performance. The dozen or so carnotaurii remaining found themselves propelled by long subdued bovine instincts, quickly stampeding in the direction of the convoy, trailed by a massive wave of disturbed earth.

"Hit it, Comrade Todd!"

"You got it!" Todd replied as he put the truck in gear, "Alright, baby, work with me, don't kill us, please help us get out of this alive!" he thought to himself and.the truck for some absurd, irrational reason.

>Of course.

He could have sworn he heard back.
>>
>>60871601
"Who set up the TAC track by the way?" Phillips asked over comms.

"Not I..." Sanchez reported.

"Not I, Comrade." Dmitri reported as Todd hit the button Hank had instructed as his foot pushed the accelerator to the floor, launching the truck forward as the first few lines of the track began to play, bass thumping and melody steadily pushing forward.

"This is Super Eurobeat!"

"HAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!!!" The combined yet impotently enraged scream of his squadmates only barely covered the ecstatic laughter of the grizzled mechanic.

"GO KID! GO!"

>Will get more written and some informational on the Great Migrating Worm as I finish getting shit done around the house. Got fuck all done yesterday, so I'm at it with a vengeance today. Stay tuned!

Hello, everyone! I'm Researcher Owens. I work for Ag Extension, and I'm here to show you my amazing findings about KAIJU! That's right, the nasty giants that prowl the oceans in search of megacities to destroy. Today, I'm gonna show you some of my favorites and tell you a little bit about each one!

First up, we have Arkeos. Everyone's heard of him! He's the fastest of the bunch on account of the fact that he never seems to sleep. Always on the job, that Arkeos! Watch out for his radioactive eye-beams, though- they can melt through just about anything, including the walls of YOUR mega city! Be careful out there!

>>60873069
Next, we've got a very FISHY kaiju- Ertongu! She lives off the coast of Africa and will kill just about anything that tries to pass through her territory- which is why we have pretty much no idea what's going on in West Africa. Kind of a buzzkiller, huh?

Ertongu has 6 rows of teeth, can smell prey up to 10 miles away, and is also the largest of the African kaiju at nearly 430 feet long! Imagine posing in a picture with a catch THAT big? Ertongu seems to navigate via echolocation, like dolphins or bats. Fortunately for us smaller guys, that means we can hear her coming from a ways away! But be careful, 'cuz this little fishy has a big appetite, and she can swim almost as fast as Arkeos if she really wants!

Murgauth's up next, and here at AgEx Research and Development HQ, we like to call him the baby of the bunch. Compared to his brothers and sisters, Murgauth is a measly 210 feet tall. Not much to sneeze at, but nothing compared to his bigger siblings!

As if by poetry, Murgauth is probably the most irritatingly aggressive. He'll even go out of his way to pick fights with Ranger and Warden ships that are miles out of his way. Talk about a complex!

But there's more to this manlet than meets the eye. Murgauth's right arm is a tremendous tentacle- almost as long as he is tall! And as for that strange-looking horn on his head- it can pierce through Warden QWETs and Transport Ships with ease! That's not to mention his acidic, mercury-laden vomit. This little guy has quite a few tools in his arsenal to mess up anyone he deems a threat! Fortunately for us, he tends to stick by Russia. Good thing he's across the pond!

Quothmawg is no laughing matter. Unlike the previous three Kaiju, Quothmawg prefers to stay inland- she's somewhere prowling the ruins of China as we speak. She's the tallest land-based kaiju at a jaw-dropping 500 feet. Anyone got a thing for tall girls?

Ahem. Sorry about that. Probably shouldn't be joking too much about this one. Most folks are pretty familiar with what she did to Hong Kong all those years ago. They say the walls are still being repaired, even 15 years later. Christ.

Her sheer size is what tends to give her the advantage, along with her four powerful arms. Combine that with a gigantic tail and her horrifying ability to discharge a huge swatch of electricity with an estimated maximum radius of a mile? Then you got a preeeeetty deadly Kaiju on your hands. Fortunately, Beijing put up a pretty good fight against her and she hasn't approached a mega city since. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Ha! Now for something a bit lighter. This less-than attractive fella is named Sklexigon. He's one of very few flying kaiju out there, and he's my personal favorite because he covers all three frontiers- land, sea, and air. Sklexigon is an excellent swimmer, flier, and can slither on land (albeit rather slowly). He tends to hang out off the coast of South America, gorging himself on the occasional Wahoon or pirate vessel passing by. Watch out- he can divebomb from thousands of feet in the air and take out prey from above thanks to his keen eyesight!

Sklexigon's big schnoz isn't all for show, though. That thing is so tough it can slice entire flotillas of airships in half! Sklexigon tends to avoid engaging with megacities, but when he does, you'd better make sure they're on their game. He can move so quickly through the air, most MAC guns and Gauss cannons will be shooting thin air!

You"re listening to KWTF, 13.37 AM, and I'm Ricky Sparks, your voice in the dark. Before I leave you good folks in the tenfer, loving hands of my compatriot Molly Bright, we've got some breaking news.

It appears that amidst all this talk of a tax holiday, there is currently a rescue operation going on outside Megacity S-1.

Ol'Ricky's sources say that the operation may have something to do with a particular Councilor's kid. What do you think listeners? Lets go to the phones.

>Damnit Ricky, this kind of thing happens more and more because the City keeps wasting money on Iconocorp's latest bad idea. Just pass the damn holiday so when people look to come out here, they actually come prepared!

Interesting view... Next caller.

You again? Fine we won't next...

>DON'T LOOK AT IT!

...ya know what, that's all Ricky has time for folks. This is Ricky Sparks signing off. If you have a view to weigh in with, call in and Molly will see to it that your voice is heard.

I know enough. You speak as tyrants, not guardians. You make plain your disdain for the nobility of mankind, calling us broken, yet we were once greater. Even now, we still bear that divine spark, formed in the image of our Creator to subdue the Earth and hold dominion over it. We were made to be conquerors, and we will retake our world, in time. We will cut down the great beasts of the cataclysm, and we will cast down the Forces. Mankind will once more have dominion over the world, and in doing so we will glorify our Creator.

Save your gift, I have no need for it.

Guys, what's going on? Our hacked satellite just went unresponsive. Oh wait, nevermind- it's coming back online now. Uh, why is it now moving differently? It's headed towards North America now. Before, it was over Russia.
>>
>>60879814
That's orbits for ya.
>>
>>60880004
Nonono, I mean the tech guys says it just deviated from their usual orbit about an hour ago. The telescope boys also say they see other satellites moving out of their usual orbits just now. What the hell is happening??

It's is not illegal, nor forbidden by the Great City of Mu to reanimate a Great Glutton. This is because the Corpse City does not believe in standing in the way of natural selection.
If the goofy walking menagerie doesn't kill you, the Rangers will. Their anatomy is absolutely fascinating, having a digestive system that continues to work hours after expiration, until of course their stomach acid eats through the body. A somewhat poetic end for this poor creature, in the end it manages to devour even itself.

So setting wise something that's been bugging me; are necromancers linked to Mu? Mu seems more about living flesh to me.
Maybe the necromancers are from Mu city that died but did not stay dead?
>>
>>60881614
Probably some old ASAT weapon reactivated, nothing to worry about desu, stuff like that happens from a time to time.
>>
>>60881993
Since when does Mu have anything approaching society or laws? It's a nightmarish hellscape.
>>
>run out of rounds for my mortar
>tell the kid to buy more of them during his next visit in the town
>tell him specifically that i want 80mm HE shells
>send him off
>the bastard returns two days later
>claimed that he got lucky and got shitload of shells for cheap
>check them
>the retard bought bunch of 12cm incendiary shells

Guess that it is once again a time for mr. belt to get acquainted with someone's ass.
>>
>>60886168
A nightmarish hellscape that has cities.
>>
>>60878077
Is that..Morse code?
>>
>>60882533
My is where Necromancy comes from and the old laws of the cities govern now we use it. Necromancy was created more or less, so we could deal with the living flesh infection without actually contracting it. The Dreaming Flesh can't fuck with something that can't dream, see.

Citizen,
We appreciate your use of our state of the art Iconomsg™ service. We here at Iconocorp strive for utmost costumer satisfaction.

Unfortunatly, we must inform you that there are currently no excursions or rescue operations planned into Fae territories.

We apologize for any percieved inconveniences and we wish you a good day.
>>
>>60891294
Damn :/

Never shoulda moved to New Albion, thought the island life woulda been good, didn't think fae shit was gonna be this big a problem though :/
>>
>>60882533
The Corpse City was built to contain the Dreaming Flesh and keep its infection from spreading across the world. The first Zombies were made to lay the bricks at the edges of the Dreaming Flesh without contracting it's awful sicknesses.

Hey guys, I need help performing the $NAKELIFE ritual. I downloaded both the $NAKELIFE.writ and $NAKELIFE.cast files from the Asmodus blackserver, but every time I spill blood over my sigils I get some weird "ERROR 713" pop up and the ritual window closes before it can boot. Anyone else get this problem? Are the Underservers down? You don't think they got shut down by the Church, right?
>>
>>60891578
>Asmodus blackserver

You know that that site is a bait site that is operated by the church, right? They include couple relatively harmless real rites in its archives but most of them are fakes and people who download them get to have a meeting with one of the Church's many death squads.
>>
>>60891764
Fuck, well guess that's it for me then. Just heard a knock at my door too, guess I won't be seeing you guys then
>>
Anyone from the Tire Wastes make it to the big tournament at Ringtown the other night? I saw it broadcasted on the bandit streaming sites, I can't believe that one waster was in the ring dual wielding sledge hammers. Best show I ever seen, I feel bad for the suckers in the megacities who can't enjoy bloodsport in glorious 3bil pixel rendering

Anon, elves aren't real. But think of the bright side, you're looking for a fey trap and you actually got one, even if the trap in question probably is quite different from that fairy fuckboy that was in your mind when you first came up with this retarded scheme of yours.
>>
>>60887321
>trusting a young'un

and that's where you went wrong. if you want something done in this world, do it yourself, man
>>
>>60884080
oh phew, glad it wasn't anything bad.
Then again, the tech boys did able to hack some more satellites because of this.
Hold on - why does this one satellite's camera is facing sideways instead of down?
And why does that other satellite it's pointing its camera on have greenish pink blobs on it? Is this normal?
>>
>>60897171
>Anon, elves aren't real.
That's a matter of semantics more than anything else.
>>
>>60897632
>if you want something done in this world, do it yourself, man
This. Sent my brother out to the wilds once see if he could bring back some fresh meat NOT grown in a vat and pumped full of chemicals and the motherfucker brought back A GODSAMN CARNOTAURUS EGG. We had to evacuate the entire settlement for nearly three months while the wardens dealt with the mother who'd come looking for her eggs. By the time they were done the only place that was still standing was the little herb shop that sold redgrass as incense. To this day I still don't know how he managed to get the egg or why we didn't tie his ass to a post and let the beast have him.
>>
>>60899255
Given that he managed to sneak into a carnotaurus' nest, natch an egg, and escape alive I doubt that just being chained into a post and left to his fate would had been enough to kill him.
>>
>>60891993
>watching fake as fuck staged combat when you could instead visit your local pit and enjoy a night of glutton-baiting
>>
Isn't this basically just Judge Dredd without judges?
>>
>>60899255
>NOT grown in a vat and pumped full of chemicals
>he doesn't want to get his weekly dose of healthy carcinogenic chemicals in a single bite
>>
>>60902654
Sorta, but with more moths, fucked up oxygen levels, and less competent law enforcement system.
>>
>>60897846
>have greenish pink blobs on it?

It is probably just some kind of bacterial colony, stuff like that tends to happen when people don't sterilize their shit properly before sending it to space.
>>
>>60882533
I say they should be separate. Some cults can use necromancy, but otherwise they should be separate
>>
>>60902654
The Megacities are essentially that
>>
>>60907713
I don't know a lot about Judge Dredd, but I don't think the megacities in Judge Dredd are run by corporations.
>>
>>60882533
>>60907681
I don't like this sudden shift to Mu proper having anything that resembles people or society.
>>
>>60907870
Some people get things from Mu, like necromancy, and hold some autonomy still.

But for the most part, I believe all cults and infected beings are a hivemind and hold similar views/beliefs, and are determined, which is what makes them so dangerous.
>>
>>60907870
Yeah, making Mu an actual nation dumbs down the concept's cosmic horror aspect. I feel like Mu, The Dreaming Flesh and anything infected by the flesh should all be the same entity, one gigantic organism. Flesh cultists - as in the people who work to turn mainland cities into flesh cities - could maybe have a little more individuality, but only because it's needed for their work, and that gets taken away the second their plans come to fruition. Necromancy could still be connected to Mu, in that its techniques and rituals are based on/influenced by those of flesh cultists, or that they use some kinda sterilised variant of flesh seeds to make Zombies and such, but I don't feel that it should have started there. That would be putting too many eggs in Mu's basket. Anyway, it would be wasting the oppurtunity for mad-scientist-Necromancers messing with things beyond their comprehension in order to fight said things.
>>
>>60908240
>Some people get things from Mu, like necromancy,
Most people seem to be against Mu being connected to necromancy.

>>60908297
Mu was originally (in the first thread) described as being something like a literal waking nightmare, I don't really like Necromancy coming from Mu, I think Mu's getting played up too much, whereas different regions should have different problems.
>>
>>60901912
>glutton-baiting
Also known as 'easy'. If you want some real fun, try playing chicken with a Carnotaurus
>>
Has anyone thought about actual education in this world? Like I'd assume the people outside of the walls don't have schools considering the normally small size of the settlements, and the fact that they get destroyed semi-regularly and I'd assume that for megacities the education gets worse the lower you are but many people get chipped and that could put all the information they need to be mindless drones in them so the lower levels of the city might not need to have schools either.
Anyone else got ideas on this?
