http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/62833800/

A few days ago, I promised an anon that I would repost this thread over the weekend when more people would hopefully have more free time to help flesh out the chapter. Follow that link, it'll take you right to the original thread.
>>
>>62947627
Cool you're back! So what should we do now? Continue with Chapter culture? Or do some more on the DP and maybe the Warband!
>>
>>62947689
So we or myself decided on a Caucasus/Georgian style of chapter culture. More for differentiating them than anything.

And we did some work on the Jungles and their relationship with them.
>>
>>62947689
I think we focused enough on the DP, let's work up how exactly they became allied with the Lamenters. Did we bail them out of a tight spot, send them reinforcements, what?
>>
>>62947758
I'm sure I was the one to do some work on it. The Crusaders helped the lamenters out in their early yars as mentors. They showed them the ropes and what not. Then they let the Lamenters be on their way for several centuries until they got in a pickle and the Lamenters came to bail them out. And then they stood by our boys in yellow after the Badab fiasco to the annoyance of everyone involved, including the Smurfs
>>
>>62947627
Another interesting and ironic thing about the Crusaders is their 'Civilising' shtick. They were a Grand Company/Chapter of the 13th Legion back during the GC and were pretty much a corp of engineers/siege specialists. So they were big on building and destroying, maybe they workd with the 4th for some time? But they got essentially conquered culturally by the people of Aminon, their now homeworld, after conquering the near mythical equatorial jungles that housed the Dracoths, their warbeasts. Over time they started to adopt the local traditions into their own, using languages/dialects, turning spirits/gods into saints. That sort of stuff.
>>
>>62947758
>>62947798
The Crusaders see the Lamenters as bright sparks of the divine will of humanity. They shine the brightest in these grim and dark times. They would try and save innocents where others would merely leave to recoup their numbers. As such, the Crusaders have taken a liking to the Lamenters, especially after they were saved by them later on and after they developed their own identity. The relationship would strengthen and deepen even when the Badab War occurred and the lamenters were sent on their penitent crusade.
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_Orthodox_and_Apostolic_Church
And if anyone want's to look at some Georgian religious pages. It's interesting stuff.
>>
>>62947798
I thought the adoption of Aminons culture would be similar the the methods the catholic church used to convert pagans. Slap Aquillas and the Emperor on everything even remotely religious, with a saint thrown in here or there for variety, and that's the cultural conquest done.
>>
>>62948282
Them being conquered culturally is meant as more an ironic thing. These Marines were really into the message of the GC by tearing doen the old and putting Imperial stuff in their place. But after the Heresy and the coming of the Emperor Cult, they became devout believers and started to truly believe the growning local Emperor worship and adopted it wholesale. These guys likely fought during the War of the Beast and that as well as purging Chaos is where them becoming true beleivers comes from.
>>
So what/did you guys have for lunch? I'm having stroganoff on toast with some sprite/w raspberry vodka
>>
So we have relationship with lamenters, the DP origins and loss of MoS, our mounts, our siege specialization, origins in general what else?
>>
>>62948645
We rule Aminon by proxy, how do the locals feel about us using them for recruitment?
We have diverged from the Codex Astartes and maintain a close relationship with the Lamenters, so what are our interactions with the Ultramarines/ the Inquisition like?
>>
How about some work on their origins/founding? They're a 2nd if not 3rd founding chapter so things'd be rather hectic then. The Emperor being interred, Roboute making the 2nd founding, Legions split, post-Heresy in general and coming on it's heels is the Best and it's WAAAGH. No wonder these guys turned to religion and crusading to forget the pain.
>>
>>62948710
>>62948710
The Locals likely think we're great. Propaganda and millennia of protection would do that. The merging of Aminonese religions and the local Imperial Cult would likely help this all out.

The Smurfs undoubtedly see us as black sheep of the family. Despite being a 2nd founding we've diverged pretty heavily yet still consider ourselves as fully 13th rather than Ultras/Macraggan like many of them. Culturally and doctrinally we've gone in quite the opposite direction.

The Inquisition has likely stepped up to curb us and our force build ups over the centuries, we've tried many times to go over the 1000 Astartes limit due to it hindering our ability to crusade and purge efficiently. With the Rift and the Ultima founding our restriction have been largely lifted and now we're fully over the limit thanks to new Scouts and the Primaris being added. Likely many OGs are going through the Primaris treatment to be more powerful in the face of the Chaos incursions into our Subsector.

We've also been rather overzealous and been rather destructive to property in our drive to purge and burn Heretics
>>
>>62948710
More on the locals
>We conquered the Jungles and the Dracoths which was a big hlp as the various warring kingdoms/empire were mainly warring over territory resources due to a good deal of Aminon's surface being taken up by said jungles.
>This ultimately led to a bottleneck of resources (iron, farmland etc) leading to near unceasing warfare.
>But the various terrains of the north and south bands (Hills, rivers, mountains and more) meant that deploying huge armies was not practical and was a hinderance due to the time that would be spent traversing
>This led to more guerilla warfare/smaller units fighting which meant more resources could be spared, also more political alliances and intrigue to cover weakenesses
>This freeing up of land meant less strain on resources and a reduction warfare, though the Crusaders wanted the warrior spirits to continue so they have martial olympias and warrior families to produce excellent initiates
>>
>>62948710
We rule by proxy so as to make sure we are always prepared to crusade and purge the mutant, heretic and alien from the Emperor's gaze.

Should the planet be ruled by a King/Prince in our stead or some council? Would it be a constitutional monarchy or parliament type deal?
>>
I have to go to the bank to get my debit card reinstated back in an hour or so
>>
>>62948970
I'm back.

Inquisition stuff
>Despite the age, prowess and dedication of the Crusaders, they've earned the ire of the Inquisition more than a few times. Nothing that would earn censure or excommunication. Jst little things.
>They've been caught trying or succeeding to go over the Codex mandated Chapter limits
>Their spread of Imperial Faith manuscripts have been noted as being copies/derivatives of Aminonist faith
>The buildings/work projects they have done for planets and governors have been done in Aminonese architectural style
>They've been overly zealous at times and destroying what they shouldn't have (example last thread was them destroying a few shrines on a shrine world that had to do with Bobby G) In their defense those shrines had been inhabited and desecrated by Chaos holdouts for months by the time they arrives, let alone when the started shelling them
>And a host of other things
>>
>>62950380
This thread is going nowhere. Bye Op and other dude.
>>
>>62950564
Oh, I'm still here, I'm just not much of a writefag.
>>
>>62949126
I want to say the government is set up as a theocracy, due to our fanatical worship of the Emperor.
>>
>>62950601
Then ******* post stuff.

I think we should go for a Constitutional monarchy backed by democratic parliament deal
>>62950641
That could work but it could lead to some issue later.
>>
>>62950653
>Constitutional monarchy
What exactly are the specifics of this constitution? What rights and limits does it detail for the ruling class?
>>
>>62950641
>>62950653
Maybe a mix? The King is also the high priest of the planet and moons but is backed by a more secular (as much as possible for an Astartes homeworld can be) parliament who handle the other matters. They've deposed more than their handful of Kings, while the Kings have purged corrupt Parliaments for being ineffectual/straying from the Emperor's light.
>>62950706
I'll get on that
>>
>>62950706
Ensure the Crusaders have readily available recruiting pool of able bodied young men/boys (8-14 years old)

Ensuring the protection of the faithful upon Aminon and its moons

The rights? While the Crusaders are away for much of the time and only leave the Claw (their monastery) around to hold the fort, they nonetheless care for Aminon and it's people. They wouldn't want the lower classes to be oppressed by the Nobles and as such the rights/protection of the Poor/middle classes are protected by the threat of what the Crusaders would do to the Noble in question if they found out.
>>
>>62950821
I can just see it now. The duke wants to kick the peasant child, but he wants to not have an angry Crusader tearing his leg out of its socket more.
>>
>>62950922
>Somedays I wish I wasn't ruling on an Astartes homeworld
>But the tax exemptions are too good to pass it up
>>
How about we roll up some moons for Aminon? 1d5 pls

Perhaps after the moons are done we can start going into detail about their recruitment methods along with challenges the initiates have to face (such as the last trail being taming a mount as discussed in the last thread).
>>
Rolled 10 + 5 (1d10 + 5)

>>62951251
So, are the inhabitants of this feral moon the oppressed class? I only ask because our nobility needs to get its oppression and class warfare fix from somewhere.

Founds good to me. I'll let the dice decide but given how civilized they are, this feral world could probably have Steel level.

I messed that up. It's 1d10 not 1d10+5, that'd be a feudal world or would you guys prefer it being feudal?

Nah, keep it feral, just knock off the plus five.

Actually, rolling for moons without really knowing what the homeworld's size is like is kind of odd.

You've got a point, maybe we should just apply that size to Aminon and reroll the size of this moon.

I agree so the moons should all be the Miniscule range? The increase of size fro Aminon would help explain how the people didn't run out of resources if nearly half was uninhabitable Dracoth infested jjungle

>>
>>62953339
So how about the next moon? 1d100 for class
>>
>>62953339
Yeah, it is a feral world after all.
I think that's enough rolling for now, we should work out recruitment practices like >>62951288 suggested. I think a major element of the process should be dedicated to making sure the recruits are properly civilized and cultured. Probably by reading and studying copies of the great literary and artistic works of ancient Terra. Just imagine it, recruits are given a 30 question exam of the philosophical differences between Plato and Socrates and assigned a five page essay on the themes of the Odyssey..
>>
>>62953529
First, would they even have existed by M41-2? They'd likely put the mthrough stuff on the Primarchs and Imperial stuff.
>>
>>62953529
>>62953582
So the recruits not only have to be physically fit, show mental fortitude but also need to be civilized and learned? The Ferals will need remedial or they could be more advanced/knowledgeable than expected. Many Iron Age cultures were quite surprisingly learned compared to what many think. They may have full alphabets, trade and even be good in engineering to deal with the cold with architecture.
>>
>>62953582
That could also work, though given that archaeotech is a thing, it's not really implausible to suppose that the Crusaders could have opened up an ancient vault full of books and art, basically a classy library, and that's where they get the belief that they're so civilized and wise from.
>>
>>62953650
I can see it. Maybe Roboute got his mitts on multiple copies and spread them around Ultramar? Then after the HH his successors took the stories/knowledge with them? So in addition to the ancients recruits are taught in more modern manners.
>>

42 KB JPG
>>62953687
>>62953650
How about both? This could be the Crusaders' biggest contribution to the Imperium. Imagine, a huge vault/library with millions, no, billions of articles from ancient Terra perfectly preserved ripe for spreading. The stories and knowledge from the pre DAOT at their grasp. Alexander the Great, Cyrus, Plato, Julius Caser, Charlemagne etc.
>>
>>62953759
Had to clean up from dinner.

So in addition to the learning and being physically ft, they also tame their Dracoths once they are old/trained enough correct? Anything else?
>>
>>62954103
It will also probably be a good idea for them to show competence in engineering
>>
>>62954317
Forgot the Siege aspect. The Ferals are surprising with their know how in engineering and architecture. The Unforgiveable cold of their moon means that good insulation and structural integrity against piling snow means they have a good grasp.Maybe it occasionally rains spears of ice on their world that can skewer a man caught outside.
>>
>>62954379
>>62954317
The Silver Crusaders in addition to the normal Astartes recruit qualities of physical prowess, spiritual fortitude and their own brand of civilized learning and philosophy enjoy their recruit having a working knowledge of Engineering. This is to play into their chapter specialization of Siege warfare and Combat Engineering. The recruits after becoming Astartes and Scout are not simply drilled relentlessly in combat skill but both in and out of classrooms in the way of engineering and architecture. Many a bridges and walls have been built and destroyed by the Crusaders over their existence.
>>
So we decided last thread that the Dracoths are able to be equipped with Mortars/Rockets and are even used to tow artillery pieces if needed. Andanother guy was talking about them getting cybernetics beyond the mind stuff that is ypically done. It involved spinal removal for a sort of harness for marines to jump into to ride.

Our most hated enemy is knocking at our door, and we shall meet him with fortifications that would make Dorn himself shed a single proud tear at their strength. We shall meet our enemy with our blades sharpened, cannons roaring, and our beasts hungry for the flesh of heretics. But hold true, my fellow Astartes, and we shall win the day! We shall win because we fight for a purpose greater than ourselves, to defend the loyal children of the Emperor! We are His wrath given form, and we shall strike down our foes, casting them from His sight, for they are not worthy to draw breath! The most "Successful" foray of the Traitor Librarian Megustius and but one of the many pieces of evidence that led to his flight, ascension and the disappearance of anateverus it is seen with much contempt by the Silver Crusaders and the people of Gelida Inferos. The only eason they are kept around is for training new recruits and hopefuls into the Crusader's hallowed ranks. The populations of the Crag Stalkers are kept tightly regulated by monitoring and regular sweeps across the planet(s). They are a fierce foe for anyone unprepared, let alone armed.

They are a constant reminder to all of the insidious nature of Heresy and to be a lesson of vigilance for all future Crusaders

>The Crag Stalker is enowned for just how dangerous and annoying it is to fight, even for expericed Stalker hunters. Their Burrowing ability is unsurpassed when transported to warmer climates, needing to swiftly burrow through ever frozen dirt and even stone develops one's muscles and talons a level nigh unheard of. Such strength allows it to dispatch those unprepared with contemptuous ease. Owing to it's Insect heritage, the ability to spin webs and adhesives afford it to entangle prey whether for entrapping for eating or hindering hunters to escape.

Through generations of experience and inbred engineering, the Crag Stalkers are well known for their skill in Hit and Run. Swiftly feinting in and out and disappearing into the dar crags, the Stalkers know well enough it is best to wear an opponent down if they prove too much for even it's prodigious strength to handle. As almost an after thought, the Crag Stalkers are equipped with Defensive Spines across the outer body, on the outer legs, to the back, head and tail. Due to the lack of natural predators and the common use of ranged weapons, typically firearms, these seem to be simply a byproduct of Megustius' madness.
>>
So how about another moon and creature? Or maybe another creature for Aminon like a herbivore?
>>
So more on the Ice Moon. They should be surprisingly cultured and knowledgeable like I posted before. They're no feral skull crushers or savages, they just live on an inhospitable world for producing prime Astartes candidates, the recruits from their world have a surprisingly higher than average implant acceptance rate.

Their would be the obvious Civilised level city state that serves as the moon capital and spaceport, as well as the neutral ground for the tribes/clans.

Given teir is around 5 million Ferals, they'd be divided amongst the tribes/clans by around 1-5k apiece. The spaceport city isn't likely to be fully counted for the population census given how dense and advanced it is. But they'd also have the ability to produce recruits, the Crusaders aren't so picky.
>>
>>62963828
For culture I was thinking a Siberian with the tribes/clan based on Chukchi, Cossacks and the various groups being it's demographics.

The spaceport is the most Imperial settlement and it shows, but it has obvious Aminonese/Crusader architecture and cultural leanings. The Moon has an above average death rate due to the inclusion of the Spaceport skewing statistics, but this isn't applied to the tribes/clan natives.
>>
>>62951288
Holy shit, those look a lot like My Dudes. Mine just got an orange trim on the pauldrons as well. Funny things: my chapter is the Storm Crusaders.
Just pointing out a funny coincidence.
>>
>>62964497
Not unlikely. There was probably a case or two of Marie Chapters with the same name running into eachother
>>
>>62964383
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>62953759
The real question is, do they share this knowledge freely with the rest of the Imperium, or do they keep it to themselves?
>>
>>62965760
That's the real question. I'd like to think yes, by way of the other Ultra descendants and Inquisition. The latter would likely censor most of it and doctor the rest. The Smurfs would also censor what they didn't like but dish it out to other Marines or institutions they think can handle it. This sort of discovery may get the attention of the Lords of Terra/Custodes if it takes before the Rift.
>>
>>62966033
What do you guys think of this piece? Does it fit or maybe it should be modified?

Should we do some extrapolation of Aminon? Using the planet generator for the rest I mean.
>>
>>62966546
I feel like Aminon is pretty well established already, maybe we should work on how the Crusaders are perceived in the Imperium as a whole. We know the Smurfs aren't exactly their biggest fans, and the Inquisition just hates them, but how are they perceived by the common citizens?
>>
>>62966613
Likely very well, when they aren't too zealous. They are renowned for their work projects and in many cases staying around and either repairing/rebuilding places or at least giving aid through advice and such. They have built many cathedrals across their secotr and beyond in addition to other buildings. They once even lifted a Hive that fell due to shoddily maintained supports in the Underhive. They did that by using several Anti Grav drives, spaceships and enormous carjacks to lift the city while they and millions of workers/engineers worked tirelessly to fix and improve what came before.
>>
>>62966804
During the PostRift era, the Crusaders obviously see the possibilities thanks to the restrictions on Chapters being lifted along with the Primaris upgrades. The new numbers will let them spread out more and cover more ground to civilize and rebuild more effectively. Sort of what they've been dreaming for millennia.

Unlike the Templars, they've had being Ultras and the expectations included. The Templars sort of had the orders of a Primarch to use as an excuse for their build/spread. The Crusaders despite their restrictions have done pretty well for themselves all things considered. They've likely greatly expanded the Scout Companies as an attachment to each Company proper.
>>
>>62966804
>>62967149
Perhaps we should also add that some points on animosity the Silver Crusaders could have created with some civilians sectors was due to their overzealous nature causing destruction of sacred buildings even if they later rebuilt them as mentioned before. Plus they could have strained relationships with other non ultramarine descendant chapters barring the lamenters due to their reverence of Guilliman
>>
>>62967225
That can definitely work. Last thread I put the idea they destroyed a number of Shrines on a besirged Shrineworld to clear out holdouts. Though by the time they arrived and relieved the locals those shrines had likely been desecrated, the local Ecclisiarchy still pins some blame on the Crusaders for their "Lack of foresight and reckless destruction" regarding what they destroyed, in addition to the hab blocks totaled.

In a more 'Sensible' 40k the Smurfs here aren't Wardian to the max. The Crusaders wear that hat instead, to a degree.
>>
Rolled 41 (1d100)

Will the Crusaders ever fix their bad rep?
>>
>>62967771
Not likely, though there is a sliver of hope even if it's quite dim. They have a long road ahead of themselves.

How well do they build up their forces after the Megustius/ invasion to improve their crusading/rebuilding efforts across the Sectro?
>>
>>62967930
probably always having their recruitment option as always being open instead of a once a year event, along with possibly recruiting from worlds they are currently crusading on
>>
>>62968227
Seems like a good plan.
>>
>>62968918
I've lost interest with this thread. You guys mind if I just save it later? I just can't seem to find it in me to do anything, not helped that I've been busy today and yesterday. So much for having more time during the weekend.

So the Crusaders have gotten themselves in trouble with a bunch of people over the years for both petty and major reasons. Kind of hard to put forth ideas when you only have one party in volved.

>>62969077
