Set them to have a need for perfection in their craft.

Similar to how Dwarf Runelords would spend centuries on some projects and would never recreate a previous work.

huh seems our boys raided a craft world, perhaps our Master of the Forge wanted some xenos tech to observe and find ways to counter it

Another good trait or happening was for them to be humbled.

Say they put too much faith in their gear and it was found wanting when put up against a slaanesh champion. This would drive them further to hone their craft.

Or the planet was artificial back in the DAoT, and the people retreated into underground bunkers when [UNSPECIFIED CATASTROPHE] caused the local atmosphere to become unbreathable. It's Mediaeval Fallout with O2 deprivation instead of radioactive waste.

The scavenger-lords, nobles of the world utilise Imperial Knights to climb to the surface of the world to look for useful materials left behind when people fled to undervaults because of the [UNSPECIFIED CATASTROPHE], each Knight outfitted with limited atmo-scrubbers. These nobles are the lifeblood of each undervault, yet they themselves rely on the Chapter to provide them with the technical expertise and parts to keep their Knight suits functioning. Without any Knights, an undervault perishes due to... something or other that necessitates constant Knight scavenging of the surface world.

Titles and Knights are split between all eligible inheritors by lottery. Roll a d2; on a 1, an inheritor cannot inherit a second inheritance until all inheritors have at least one, nor a third until all have at least 2, and so on; on a 2, they can (the lottery can return the same winner for every item, in theory).

Tyranny
The set of inheritors is always the current holder of the title to the Head of the Household; roll again for inheriting the Head of the Household title. If you prefer, this can be any other title, although this will always inevitably eventually result in the owner of that title taking the Head of the Household title by force.

That's an odd roll...

Huh, given how old the Marines are this is odd but not unlikely. Too much territory would attract attention by the Ordo Astartes.

We know the planet and rule, technically subservient to the Marines

All the better for the marines they wouldn’t be too much help in defending a larger amount of territory.

Yeah they're too ravaged as is nowadays. In the past it was fine but they've been pretty much reduced to patrolling with a company or two around the subsector.

Combat doctrine (d10)
>>
what type of culture should the marine have
>>
>>63252275
Not ure. Never truly been a fan of Not! Culture marines though some are great. Il ike the RG way: subtle influences that aren't in your face like some /tg/ marines, the Emperor's Nightmares are a good example of this
>>
>>63252275
I think the mentality most marines in the chapter have is a “Do the ends justify the means” because their so willing to push themselves past their own breaking points. They’re always rationalizing why they have to push themselves so hard because for each marine a regular chapter has they need to be twice as good. They need to fight twice as good as the best champion from any other chapter and need to craft power swords and armor that’s twice as good as the best from other chapters.

The Marines and Knights rule side by side/subserviently and maintain a Feudal (Though advanced in actuality) world with a flexible yet strict and efficient bureaucracy.
>>
So we going with Ancient Chinese Dwarf Marines?

Because such an image is great.
>>
Now for the name: how about the Heavenly Iron Soldiers which is translated from the local tongue? Not sure on the 'Proper' name yet.

The replacing body with machine really reminds me of the tales of Chinese alchemists creating concoctions of mercury for the Emperor to imbibe and immortality. And the Dreads could have a slight terracotta theme given them being near dead warriors

So he Chinese Dwarf Marines and Knight friends rule over a number of under cities across the planet? Each one a metropolis with hundreds of thousands, millions in the case of the capital and Forbidden City where the Marines live. People are born, live and die without ever seeing the natural sun due to the airless terrain of the world. Maybe it's actually a moon instead of a planet?

Either they had reserves to call upon after the Eldar attack or they managed to skirt by unscathed. Makes the power dynamics between the two more odd now adays

Who are the House's enemies?(d100) Or not?
>>
>>63253654
>monastery being called the forbid city or some variation of it
Nice idea, also would be a good idea for the marines (at least the higher up ones) to also be philosophers due to how much the dynastic period pressured its leaders to conform to those types of thinking
>>
>>63253801
That really works with them being Ultra descendants. Many at first wouldn't think so, but they are really into bueracracy and efficieny like their fore brothers. Everything runs smoothly like a well oiled machine. Crime and interests are low to incentivize trade/business. Infrastructure is a big thing, plumbing always works, heating and air are properly maintained with Tech marines being a common sight in mainting those things
>>
>>63253866
Well at least for the monastery, with the chapter being distant rules they would mostly rely on the night houses and keep away from most mortals and may even view them as barbarians. The chapter might even install a 40k version of the Mandate of Heaven to keep things running smoothly and for recruits to keep on coming.
>>
>>63253866
Going off of the crime part, they are big into 'Bots on the Ground' where law enforcement are always around and walk among the populace, both in plain view and plain clothes among them. There are even the occasional Marine that goes along designated paths to reinforce order and civility. Punishment is swift and effective. Those that perform misdemeanors are put into terrible jails to dissuade future crime. Those too difficult to deal with are sent to nearby Prisons, and the irredeemable are executed sometimes on the spot.
>>63253901
That works the bureaucracy they set up was to keep themselves from interacting much with the world but these days they are less active and need to build up their numbers again. I need to shower so back in a bit
>>
As much as I love the orient, i prefer the original idea we had prior to the introduction of said ideas.
>>
>>63253978
I/We haven't forgotten. It should be a more subtle flavoring than ripped wholesale, the Bureaucracy/Mandate of Heaven and the like are just to give them some influence

>>
As far as the overall mentality of the chapter goes, it does seem that while they're normally perfectionists, they clearly place their duties above their passion for craftsmanship. In this time of crisis and loss there's no time to wait around, they have work to do! So they lop off limbs and shove mechanical supports in when healing would be impossible or take far too long.

I feel like the main difference between the attitude these guys have towards cybernetics and the attitude that, say, the Mechanicus or the Iron Hands have is that those two do it because, well, the Flesh is Weak. That Steel is a better, stronger way to go. While I get the impression that these guys, whose name we should really settle on because "Star Dragons" sounds pretty damn generic, are very much a "...but the Spirit is Willing" second half of the "Flesh is Weak" thing, if that makes any sense. They slapped on the tech parts because their duties needed fulfilling, but their bodies weren't up to the task. Not out of any hatred for squishy bits. Does that make any sense?

Uh... hi. Is this thing on?
[indistinguishable background noise]
Right, right. Okay. Never had one of these things when I was a scribe back home. Still getting used to all these beeping things, you know?
[unintelligible words, Mechanicus in origin]
Calm it, cogman. I get it, these things are sacred. Wait, they can't record for too long? Aw jeeze, shoulda told me that sooner-
[mechanical voice recognised by Mechanicus-liaison Magos Tost as belonging to Techpriest Simeon Petrark, unintelligible due to being binaric - Mechanicus-liaison Magos Tost refused to translate the content of Techpriest Petrark's words]
The more you jibber-jabber, the longer it takes to record. I guess I should state for the record that I'm Tess. No fancy titles or nothin', just Tess. I got roped into this Inquisitive business five planets back, and now that the, uh, the Interrogator is dead, the others, they put me in charge. Not because I was leadership material or anything, the rest just hates each other too much to see them be temporary Inquisi- Interrogator, I guess.

Cogman here is telling me that we're on a planet designated... well, he's just telling me a jumble of numbers and letters. I can't memorise that!
...
You know what, I'm going to name the planet. I'll call it Pete's Sake, because Petey here is being an ass.
[muffled Mechanicus grumble]
Well that's your name now, Pete. Honestly, you metal-people and your weird long names-

[indignant Mechanicus beep]
If we did as you said, it would take at least three hours to get the recording started. So, we're on planet... Tess.
[binaric snicker]
Hey, it's a working title, okay? Anyway we're here on Planet Tess - we landed here in some very fancy drop pods, Pete is telling me they're called "Ixoss-Pattern something-or-other", but what I know is that it looked like a meteor. Landed like one, too. That... last one was probably not intended. It resulted in our Interrogator getting squished because he was too busy being handsy with the nun-girl to properly fasten his seatbelt. Oh, the nun-girl's name is Elaine, by the way. I think she's sulking behind the meteor-drop pod behind us - that or washing off the Interrogator's blood. I think she's nice. She's taking the death of our Inty pretty hard, though, and Pete doesn't like her for some reason. Something about the omni-tools and Eeksy-archs-

-loody hell, why are these recording modules so tiny? Who made this thing and thought, "oh I'll only allow a letter-count of up to two thousand maximum"?
[smug Mechanicus noise]
Yeah, well the rest of us can't speak your beepboop.

Anyway, the landing went mostly well. It's a very harsh-looking planet, lots of red and black and grey. The air looks nasty, almost reminds me of that time we were in the underhive. Apparently the atmosphere is unbreathable for normal humans, or as Pete says, "Inferior flesh-bags", so we've suited up in one of those really cool suits that let us breath in space. They cling to the skin a little too much, but the Interrogator said it was for dramatic effect.

We haven't done much since landing, since Elaine insisted we dig a grave for the Interrogator... well, what's left of him. Jorj - that's our weapon specialist, by the way, he's really buff - wanted us to find one of those underground habitats that the locals are supposed to live in by evening, but it looks like that won't be happening. Jorj left to scout around I think, so Pete and I are stacking up our supplies and making a base camp. We'll try to head into those habitats tomorrow, see why the Interrogator was so eager to check out these "potentially renegade Adeptus Astartes scions of the Ultramarines and their pet Knight House".

Yeah, he always talked like that. Just between you and me, I don't really miss the guy. Well, that's it for today! Hey, Pete, how do I turn this off-

Fun maybe they’ve got bolt shells that cause frenzy in targets that get hit by it.
>>
>>63263761
Bolts that mutate whatever they hit

Slightly understrength
What happened?

Wait, we have special thunderhawks? Charred dragons might be better for our dreads. "We were once as dragons" has a nice ring to it. Reminds me of... Korea? the myth of how a goddess and dragon gave birth to mankind.

The Reforged, formerly *redacted*, Known for their exceptional techmarines and crafting capabilities. Feared for their slumbering dragons and charred immortals more machine then man.
>>
>>63263785
Bolts infused with Daemons that seek out targets

Swords that set things on fire

Their gear looks more like it's "Off" compared to regular CSM gear. It looks like normal Marine gear but subtly "Off"

They're just spread very thin for some reason
>>

They raided a craft world right? I like the idea of them having super pure Gene seed but pushing the line in terms of tech heresy. Meaning they are aware of their long deep seated heritage and are proud of it, but also use it as a mask of sorts for their real shenanigans. Like taking tech from a craft world and bringing it deep underground to experiment on, beyond reach of the eyes of the mechanicum.

Not really special Thunderhawks just Thunderhawks that have been with the chapter since it’s inception. We do have what I will call Heavens Hammer Drop pods which are drop pods with drill attachments launched out of an Artillery platform that both transport and devastate enemy vehicles and fortifications.

>>
>>63263915
That’s pretty good
>>
>>63261675
They can be called unbroken in the same way the Dark Angels are the unforgiven

Seconding.

I enjoy knightly orders.

They shall be remembered, there is a majestic Fresco within the Forbidden City over the grand dining hall that depicts their last stand and sacrifice and a representative brother is a part of the honor guard at their monument
>>
>>63264154
A good battle for them to have would be to defend the shrine as its being sieged by some defilers. Xenos pirates would be neat.
>>
Let’s do this right
1) Charred Immortals
2) Charred Dragons
3) The Unbroken
4) The Reforged
5) The Mason Order
6) The Unbroken Order or The Reforged Order.
Vote for a name.

Looks like both imperial and traitor forces damaged each other so bad that they’re not as they once were.
1d100 for allies.

>CRIPPLE FIGHT
>>
>>63264371
>Corrupt Governer or Imperial Offical
Fun times
Also it’s an angry no holds bar cripple fight. Who both have massive loves for their Emperors.
>>
>>63264437
That's going on the 1d4chan page
>Grimdark ultramanly cripple fight between posthuman supersoldiers that each have a hard-on for the Good Emperor
And it's even better since the Reforged are technically cripples due to the bionics
>>
>>63264480
Idk where i am going to find this many bionic bits for space marines.
>>
>>63264513
Likely bitz and Bob's boxes
>>
>>63264573
Are there a lot of different types or only a few?
>>
>>63264323
I like the idea presented here so if everyone’s cool with it we’re going with The Reforged for the chapter name.
>>63264437
We don’t need to roll for enemies since we already know it’s The Reforged.
>>
>>63264612
With that settled should the next thread be soon or maybe tomorrow?
>>
>>63264656
First we should finish this thread by compiling The Knights House info as well as the CSM info so it’s easier to reference.

As for when the next thread should be if the chapter has generated enough interest it could be two hours from now or just tomorrow so OP can see how far we’ve gotten with a little summary of everything.
>>
Chapter Iconography?
>>
>>63265352
Oriental dragon holding a hammer rampant iron and bronze
>>
>>63265352
That’s also a good point for something that needs working on.
I was thinking a modest portrayal of The Forbidden City
Also for colors I think a gun metal looking black and maybe something a little brighter?
>>
Can someone save this on suptg? I'm on my phone so I can't

Didt we have a scheme for bronze earlier?
