Previously on Tachi's Wild Ride: The girls rammed into a fucking tank. Let's see what harebrained schemes they cook up this time
Posting will probably slow down a little bit now that there's a new thread, I'm a little fried from today. If I don't finish up tonight then I'll finish tomorrow
>The girls are rattling along in Monty, they've been clear of the fighting for a while
>The four of them are quiet; Protoca is concetrating on driving, Port is still moping after the dead end of the shelter, Tachi and Hope are in the back just generally keeping quiet
>As Monty chugs forward, Protoca and Port notice a line of green off on the horizon. Grass
>Port sits up abruptly. "Is that... grass?"
>Tachi shakes her head slowly. "There's no way"
>Protoca is quick to deny it as well. "Impossible, all the grass is dead"
>Port fidgets with the zoom settings on her gunner's screen but the display is too old and knackered to give her a clear picture. "It... really looks like a field of flowers from here. Wonder what it is"
>It stretches toward either side of the horizeon with no visible end. "Should I try and route around it?" Protoca asks
>Tachi: "My bet is a giant monster that only looks like flowers..."
>Hope is craning her neck through an open gun port, trying to get a look at the field
>Port fidgets with her screen some more. "Let's try and get closer. Not on top of it, but close enough we can get a better look"
>Protoca brings Monty up to the edge of the grass. It's and endless field of... giant, velvet petal'd roses
>The field grows farther and smaller in Port's gaze
~~~~~~~~~~~~
An endless field of roses. A single scene that dances across your memory like a fleeting dream
One of them is in your hand. That rose in your hand that day... it was important
Various boulders and rocks poke from the field, both now and in your memory
But weren't they closer? The memory blurs. Were you alone?
There was a statue. A pillar? You don't think you were alone
>In another edition of things I forgot to mention, Port salvaged some optics from the damaged bots at the end of last game and gave herself Extra Eyes. They sit along her cheek ridges and she was able to integrate their outputs into the feed running from her antenna to her spinal column
So on her face the extra eyes are like the fog lamps underneath the headlights on a car?
>At some point during the ramming attack, Protoca or Port must have gotten thrown into a button; a series of gunports along the infantry compartment open up, exposing Hope to all the noise and chaos of the battlefield.
>The first thing she sees when she looks out the window is a squad of undead infantry closing in on them, weapons drawn.
>She yelps in fright. As she dips her head and covers her ears, the space around the infantry warps. Four of them fall to the ground with a severe case of Exploded Head.
This is now my mental image of Hope.
That would've been two sessions ago (when Protoca got shanked by the syringe zombie.)
...I think that might also have been the last time it was RP'd out, but likewise, may have been the last time they picked out a part at all.
Tachi's picked up Spikes since the last post, for instance. Where did they come from? I guess her armor's jagged from some damage and she left it as is, because it never came up, lol.
...So I'm tempted to call that lies, but Port's been trying.
>>
>>67068207
>Port blinks, sits back up. In her reverie, she let her face lean in close to the viewscreen. Absently, she touches her palm where the rose had been. "I think I've been here before," she says quietly. "I recognize
the rocks. But the flowers were smaller back then."
>"Monster~" Tachi says in an uncharacteristically sing-song tone.
>Protoca frowns, wary of the flourishing greenery. "Do you want to investigate them? We might be able to find a route around them eventually, though... I don't know how much further this vehicle can carry us." Monty's engine misfires, as if it's irate with her. "Still, it's not like we're short on time."
>Port: "I'd like to. If you don't think it's too dangerous."
>Tachi shrugs. "This is a bad idea, but OK. We'll kill whatever we come across if we have to."
>Hope shrugs. "I don't mind."
>Port: "Then it's... tentatively agreed then?"
>"If that's the case then on we go," Protoca agrees(?) The Monty lurches froward again, at least.
>Port runs a finger over her display, fidgeting with a few of the settings. "Try and keep an eye out for... People. I guess. I remember being here with someone last time. I think."
>Monty chugs ahead. And keeps going.
>Tachi sighs and turns the pintel turret around to watch the rear.
>Monty makes steady pace over the field. Eventually the dimmer grasses along the edge of the field pass away and the girls are swallowed up in a sea of emerald and vermilion.
>Port finds herself getting distracted, watching the roses drift by as the APC chugs forward. "I wonder why I was out here."
>The greenery thickens. Monty's treads roll over a carpet of thick vines running along the ground.
>Tachi: "Does anyone else feel like we're driving straight towards our doom?"
>Port: "Have you seen the rest of the place? Where else would we be going?"
>Protoca shrugs, not that Tachi can see it from her place in the back. "When weren't we?"
>Tachi pauses, blinks, and then mumbles "You have a point."
>>
>The tarnished remains of a metal barrier are the only thing that stick out from the sea of green and red, a rusted and broken slab of steel some thirty feet high.
>As Monty chugs along, the grass outside raises up to chest-height. Farther ahead, the road begins to disappear in a forest of brambles and gigantic flowers.
>"Hedgerows," Protoca states. "It's like old hedgerows... I don't think we can go much further, actually."
>"Too bad we don't have any tank traps to cut up and weld to the front." Port pauses. "Wait... yeah we do."
>"We have a drill," Tachi deadpans.
>Port scratches her head. "Why does an IFV even have a boring bit?"
>Tachi: "Dunno. The last few we've seen all had them."
>The tank crawls forward and Protoca triggers the drill.
>Monty presses onward unimpeded, save for the obnoxiously loud sound of the drills motor as it butchers most of what's in front of him. The ride's pretty bumpy though.
>Suddenly, with a mighty heave, the APC lurches and jumps. It lists and starts sliding rapidly to the side, through the thorny hedge-roses.
>The world tilts sideways
>Port: "Uh... how is the truck sliding?"
>Protoca wrestles with the controls. The tracks grown fiercely. "We must have left the road," Protoca guesses, remarkably calm, considering the situation. Tachi yelps as the truck keeps sliding.
>Monty jerks again, spinning such that it's facing 90 degrees from its previous heading and then slowly crawls to a stop, tracks whirring uselessly as the drill spins in empty air. It is now resting almost vertically.
>Port is clutching her seat, legs and feet pressed hard into the floor to keep her from falling out of her chair. "Are... did we stop?"
>The vines suspending the tank give way, sending Monty plummeting.
>Tachi screams.
>Hope squeals like a little girl while (which she is). Protoca braces as best she can for the inevitable impact, eyes uselessly scanning the console for a solution.
>Still screaming in abject terror, Tachi throws herself out of the rear hatch and latches onto Monty, lighting her jetpack in an attempt to slow down the falling vehicle.
>She heaves and pushes with as much thrust as her jetpack will muster but Monty doesn't seem to slow down at all.
>Tachi glances down and sees the rapidly approaching ground, glances up and sees Monty above her like a present from God. Her jetpack sparks and sputters as she abandons the effort, flinging herself away from the vehicle.
>As the APC drops past her, she locks eyes with the two girls in the forward cabin.
>Tachi rolls gracelessly over the thorny, root-strewn ground as 30 tons of armored car crashes into the ground beside her, bounces a minute distance, and teeters to the side.
>Tachi clambers to her feet and climbs up onto Monty's stricken form. She throws open a hatch and shouts "Is everyone alive?"
>"Not for a while now," Port grumbles as she pries herself off the wall of the cabin. "Protoca, Hope? Are you hurt?" Her ears are ringing.
>"I'll be fine," Protoca demures, already climbing into the back to check on Hope.
>Hope has tears in her eyes and is cradling one of her arms, which was smashed against the wall, but she's otherwise fine.
>"Well... this is bad," Tachi groans. "How the heck are we going to get Monty out of this?"
>Port crawls out of the forward cabin. One of her hands has been broken into pieces and her right leg's main support has been bent at almost ninety.
>"Push it back over?" Protoca shrugs, splinting Hope's arm and helping her out of the cabin. It's more viable than it sounds; Monty does not look much worse for wear despite the fall
>Tachi sighs and nods. "We can probably use some of these damn plants to make a rope or something."
>Port flops out of the rear hatch unceremoniously, landing on her back. For a moment, she's captivated by the canopy.
I almost can't believe I found a pic for this
>A snickering voice echoes across the forest of stems. "Look, look, what has the cat dragged in? A dumpster, a rock, four corpses in a wastebin?"
>Port sits up, ears waggling this way and that to try and trace the noise. Her extra eyes flicker in the dappled shadows as their lenses scan the greenery
>The voice sounds here, sounds there, it sounds like it's somewhere far or near
>Port speaks up tentatively. "Hello? Where are you?"
>Voice: "Oh I'm here. Or maybe there? Maybe even everywhere!" The snickering grows closer and a... cat? drifts like a leaf downward to rest on top of Monty. "But maybe this is where I am right now; don't bother asking, I couldn't say how."
>Tachi: "Ugh... here we go."
>Port looks closer, trying to figure out what about the cat is putting her off. It takes a second, but she realizes it has the face of a human girl
>Protoca, having just extracted Hope from the interior of the APC, whirls about, drawing her shovel and slamming the base of the head into the roof of Monty in surprise
>The cat isn't there when the shovel makes impact
>"My, my, what a surprise. For a rotting corpse, your blood pressure's high." It's now resting on a thron at the edge of the clearing.
>Port whirls around, still on her butt, trying to trace the cat's movement.
>"Oh god, it rhymes," Tachi groans
>Port: "Are these your flowers?"
>"No, oh no. I'm not the gardening sort. I'd much rather rest upon a chest, perhaps at port?" The cat snickers again
>Tachi stares at the cat... thing, "... Are you making dirty jokes now?"
>Port turns scarlet and covers ger chest. "Y-you what?"
>"Cats like ships and alley slips. But alas, that time has passed. There are no ships to sail through here; nor even water very near." It rolls off of the thorn and out of sight, landing upon the ground near Port with a quiet thud
Some context for the cat's boob jokes. That roll was for Port. Yes, she is canonically stacked higher than a blueberry flapjack special, you just can't tell because she's always got a plate carrier on (and because I hadn't really thought about it before making the roll).
>The cat meows plaintively "Would you know where they'd be -- could you show them to me?"
>"The- the ships?" Port stammers, more than a little flummoxed. "We haven't- we haven't seen the ocean. We're not really sure where we are."
>Tachi's voice is completely deadpan "I think it's asking about your tits..."
>The cat snickers again.
>Tachi: "Well this is the strangest day I think we've had."
>Port nods. "Yeah. This is kinda weird."
>"If a cat am I then a girl are you! But then without visitors, what good is a zoo?" The cat falls into the ground and lands on the thorn it rested on previously. "Am I an owl now? Hoo~ hoo~."
>Tachi glares. "No, you're still a cat... thing... just weird."
>Port huffs. "Protoca, can you help me straighten out my leg? We need to start moving again."
>"Hm." It frowns. "Then I suppose if I am a cat then you are a girl. What a mystery we've unfurled."
>Port grunts her frustration. "It- she's... They're just talking in circles."
>Tachi shakes her head. "You guys get patched up. I'm going to see if there's anything I can do for Monty."
>The cat releases the thorn and lands on its feet. Taking a step forward, it trots towards Port before suddenly it's right there, skipping most of the distance. "If only I was brave - I'd show you the way! But alas this cat is just a knave. I could warn you though - of a friend or a foe." It's far too human face stretches into a rictus grin.
>Port suppresses a shudder. "There's someone else here?"
>"Or maybe two friends, or maybe two foes. Perhaps, indeed-" It leans up to Port's face, standing on the air. "A girl with a rose." It vanishes into space only a moment before Protoca's fist rockets through the space it was occupying
Last post for tonight. I gotta hit the hay.
>Port rocks back in surprise, her ruined hand up as a shield. "Whao."
>"I do not like it, this catty clown," Protoca says dryly. "I do not like it, cat or hound."
>The cat snickers from the empty air.
>Port's ears droop. "Don't you start too."
>"Oh Sam, oh Sam, where is Sam? Where are his eggs and where is her ham?" Suddenly there are a thousand cats, resting on every thorn in sight at once. "Tell me," they ask together, "Where oh where is my Sam?" Its eyes are sorrowful and its grin has waned.
>Port's eyes widen. "Who's Sam?"
>All the cats vanish, save the one up above
>Protoca frowns. "I couldn't tell you. We don't know any Sams."
>It meows plaintively. "If she's not here, I know she's not there. I want my Sam, I want my Sam, I want her now, where I am..." And then it disappears.
>Protoca eyes the surrounding 'woods' warily before sighing and helping Port with her injuries.
>Port tries not to think about the recent encounter. "I just need the strut on the leg straightened out. Then I can walk."
>Without trouble, Protoca warps the mentioned prosthetic into something straight. Her muscles bulge dangerously but they don't break
>Near Monty, Hope shivers. "I'm not sure I like kitties anymore..."
>Port's ears go flat against the sides of her head. "I don't know if I've ever liked cats." She checks over the rest of her leg. Quietly she whispers "I wonder if I ever knew her."
>"Does it matter?" Protoca asks. "We should get moving."
>"I guess it doesn't now but..." Port lifts herself off the ground, wobbling a little on her bum leg. "I want to know more about... the me that was before I died. I feel like I should know."
~~~~~
>A small cat in small hands. Matted fur a dirty tan. You can almost picture it, an image made of sand
>Like sand, it falls through your fingers, back into the land
~~~~~
>Port looks off into the brush. "I wonder if Sam was her owner."
>"Perhaps, if she ever had an owner," Protoca muses
The shelter they explored after rescuing Hope was the start of Port's 'arc' so these last few sessions have been mostly about her. The city revolved mostly around Protoca and her tie to Valkyrie, although I don't know if the DM had all the kinks hammered out of his creative process at that point.
After the Rose Forest it's due to be Tachi's turn. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
Do you have any recommendations on who to look up to learn how to run tabletop simulator as a GM?
I mostly do text based games and either use theater of the mind, or a mix of that and maps with tokens on Roll20. (I’ve run a single voice game, and am playing in my first voice campaign. I LOVE the faster pace that comes with voice but I also miss the detail and consideration for roleplay and ideacrafting that comes with a good text game.
So I’m thinking of using tabletop simulator mixed with discord for a tabletop experience but text based in character interactions. And considering trying a voice game second.
Which do you recommend trying first?
You’ve managed to convince me to give
>>
>>67070679
We play using the in-game chatbox for in-character interactions and use Discord for voice chat during the game. We're all twenty something dudes; we can't convincingly voice act for teenage girls. Using the chatbox is also a large part of what's made this storytime possible, as when the server gets closed you don't get booted home, you just lose the ability to interact with the board or move your camera. After sessions I can just transcribe what's happened down in a .txt (which admittedly takes a while, but you can keep the window open as long as you care to).
Unfortunately I don't have any resources for TTS.
>>
>>67070679
Not that guy but,
Speaking from personal experience, Nechronica works fine with R20 since you really only need the battlemap for a map. Tabletop simulator's a bit slower for running games, but it can work well if you're fine with some more work with making maps and dealing with its oddities. Nechronica itself assumes theater of mind stuff for the adventure phase so Tabletop sim doesn't really add much unless you plan on going the extra mile.
>So I’m thinking of using tabletop simulator mixed with discord for a tabletop experience but text based in character interactions. And considering trying a voice game second.
For a game like Nechronica, using Text for In character stuff and voice for rule questions and tactics and things like that helps things go a lot faster.
Spellcheckers are always crap at names. Especially faux Russian ones like Protoca's, I wound up having to add her and Tachi's to my spellcheck to get them to stop pinging as wrong.
>>
>After sessions I can just transcribe what's happened down in a .txt (which admittedly takes a while, but you can keep the window open as long as you care to).
This kind of situation is why I was slow to accept discord as a replacement for IRC when it comes to tabletop RPGs. (i’d play on discord but never GM on it)
The moment I found out about Discord Chat Exporter on GitHub I jumped to using discord since now logging text games on discord was a snap.
How useful is stagger?
>>
>>67073021
The single use abilities like caress or predator are pretty good, it basically means at least one enemy doesn't get to make an attack. Some of the attacks that have stagger are pretty busted as they can effectively stunlock enemies.
Huh.
Really nice to read the storytimes and player experiences.
Makes me jelly since I don't have the time to run or play in any proper campaigns recently (for any system).
Gave me inspiration to work on an RPG ruleset of my own, although it will be quite different in both play style and theme.
>During this small back and forth, Tachi has been trying to tip over the APC with little success.
>With the help of Protoca and Port, the three of them manage to put in enough oomph to Monty's side to get him to shift.
>Monty does the rest, rolling over and crashing into the earth the teeth-rattling 'CLANG'
>Tachi grins at the girls. "At least we didn't lose Monty," she says, patting the side with a duller, smaller 'clang.'
>"It would be anticlimactic if we got it just to lose it," Port agrees.
>Hope frowns, holding her injured arm as she looks at the old machine. "I don't want to fall again."
>Port pats Hope's head gently with her good hand. "We shouldn't fall down again. Down here we can see much better than before."
>Which is true. The undergrowth down here in the basin, or whatever they're in, is very thin. It's mostly just short grass rooting up between the trunks of the gigantic roses.
>"Maybe one of us should walk ahead to watch for sudden inclines," Protoca suggests.
>Tachi raises her hand. "I volunteer."
>"Makes sense to me." Protoca shrugs. "Your arms are stronger than your aim," she quips, smirking.
>Port's eyes light up at Protoca's comment. "Oh! That means I get the roof gun!" She pumps her fist, excited after having been denied access to the group's largest armament thus far. "Yes!"
>The group proceeds, venturing into the forest of stems. As they go, Port starts to spot some things here and there that are vaguely familiar but she can't put her finger on why. It feels like she's been here in a dream.
>Soon they come to a cliff-face and start following along it's foot, seeking a way back up. Rounding about the side, Port's artificial heart skips a beat as they come into sight of a narrow crevice.
>The ground is littered with bones.
8/12[?]
>>
>>67074296
>In front of the crevice stands a desiccated Protector Unit. Its body is held up by, and wrapped in thorny vines.
>All of its missiles have been expended. Its eye-visor is dark. Its flashlight is broken. It's missing its rifle and other weaponry - there are no signs of them.
>Port presses close to her viewing screen. "Is it... why are you here?"
>Like an iron scarecrow, the Protector hangs in melancholy, arms spread as if crucified.
>Or as if to block the way behind it.
>Perhaps sensing Port's interest, Protoca brings the vehicle to a stop. "Port?" She asks, neutral voice tinged with concern.
>Port is already climbing out of the back and crawling onto the roof. "I have- I have to see." Her voice is breathless
>It's here. She can't believe it. It's here
>As Port approaches the Protector, it's as if she's seeing triple. At once it looms above her, a sad, skeletal thing. And at once, her tiny hand reaching out to it. And at once, her cold metal hand grasping that child's.
>That's right...
>You fell.
>You were torn apart.
>You hid.
>You stood in the way.
>They ripped you open.
>The sound of gunfire and flashes at the edge of darkness.
>The flurry of combat. Discarding your rifle and drawing your knife.
>You cried, and you bled.
>You fought. And you fought.
>Your arms and legs hurt so much. And the air tasted so bitter and stale.
>You couldn't feel anything, even as they sheared your carapace away.
>You had to hide, and be safe, for that person.
>You had to fight, to keep that person safe.
>And you failed.
>And surely, you succeeded.
>It knew.
>That child was dying.
>That child may have died.
>It should have left, to serve a useful cause.
>To preserve someone with a chance.
>It did not. It fought.
>It fought, and it fought, and it fought. . .
>. . . to protect the corpse inside the cave. That child's unmarked grave.
>The Queen of Hearts rockets over the rose forest, propelled by a tangle of dozens of legs
>A gigantic monster of an undead. She resembles her namesake from the cards, adorned in a huge metal facsimile of a dress, adorned in bright red hearts. Her face is flanked by a set of masks; one mimicking the face of each doll and one which is blank
>Suddenly, she dances across the distance between her and Port, her many scything legs arcing towards Port like every child's worst nightmare brought to life.
>There's a burst of static from B3. "S-T--AM--G--"
>Before she can strike, B3 tears from the vines, frantically clawing forward through the air and throwing Port behind it as it goes. It catches two of the Queen's legs and heaves, twisting her aside. However, she has many, many more, and they cleave B3's arms apart.
Hinder is the opposite of Support, so you can use it to turn an enemy's hit into a miss, or miss into a critical miss.
It's potentially 3 attacks for 3 AP, each dealing two damage. That's crazy efficient. It's also got decent reliability since you can reroll one of the failed attack checks. Baroque also has several skills which help boost Unarmed attacks, like Super Strength and Mad Demon.
>The Queen enters combat flanked by a pair of slightly-less-giant robotic-undead gardeners; wide, flat featured constructs each armed with a massive trowel.
>Port is first to act, activating Hopper to spring out of the way of the Queen. As she lands, she manages a snap shot with Lahti on the Queen.
>The Queen's long mane of golden hair whips in an invisible wind, catching the round before it can impact
>Tachi, not one to be dissuaded, leaps in, blades whirling.
>Her attack is devastating, but it doesn't hit the Queen.
>One of the gardeners jumps to interpose itself between Tachi and the Queen, absorbing most of the damage with its thick armor plating.
>B3, even without arms, charges into the fray himself.
>He catches the Queen off-guard with a tackle, strong enough to crunch down on two of her many legs.
>Protoca moves forward, scissors drawn, but faces more interference from the second gardener
>Hope panics. The space around the Queens head warps and parts of her face are crushed by nothing
>Tachi, raging at the gardeners, leaps again for another try at the Queen, drill whirring
>The gardeners can't block her this time. The drill slams into the Queen's reinforced skull, tearing out a massive tuft of hair as it spins.
>The Queen rages, lashing out with her needle-sharp legs at anything nearby.
>Tachi and B3 are hit the worst
>One gardener moves off to harass Port, the other stays on Tachi's tail.
>As the first round of combat closes, everyone has taken a serious beating, minus Joy who is too far back and not drawing attention to herself.
>The ghost flowers begin to attack random players; their attacks build Madness on whatever they hit
>a lot of them target Hope
>Hope begins to panic. She screams
>everyone loses four parts; legions are cleared off the field.
>Tachi puts her AP deep in the read to go all out on the Queen; chunking her for big damage
>from here the battle becomes a grind.
>It's all Port and Protoca can do to manage the Gardeners and their flowers
>Hope continues to get targeted by the flowers, her fetters are all maxed by the midpoint of round three and she becomes a gibbering mess
>Tachi is mostly just a torso and some weapons
>B3, even without arms, is still chugging. Bastard is nimble.
>Tachi puts herself deep into negative AP a second time to try and finish the Queen but it's not enough
>One of the Gardeners gets put down by Port in a desperate bid to control the growth of the flowers, but the second is still causing problems
>Protoca gets a successful Dismember with her scissors, shearing off the Queen's arm.
>Hope screams again
>the girls are only barely holding together, Hope herself is a bloody mess. Port and Protoca are barely standing
>As quickly as she came, the Queen leaps away. She straightens in a huff.
After the storytime of the sessions with the valkyrie last night, in the shower this morning I imagined a
In the shower this morning I was imagining a Nechronica game where the party goes around treating, or capturing then treating, maddened dolls and other sentient constructs to bring them back to lucidity, and then trying to recruit them for whatever cause or place they work for.
Like missionaries but with more violence, talking, journeys to the center of the mind, and esoteric repairs.
(Is it right to force your way into someone’s head, bring them back to something like sanity, then try to sell them on your faith, or give them directions to the settlement you work for or are founding?)
I’m not sure how you would mechanically set up. The ability to travel into the minds of savants and the heartbroken, or just broken. My imagination cooked up a doll woth abilities related to more traditional mental repair mixed with the ability to access minds, while also acting as a sort of “router” so the other dolls in the party could back them up, with potentially less risk to the dolls plugging in than to the doll equipped to act as the modem.
So you would have trippy mind dungeons, survival and traditional combat with the added challenge of trying to take targets alive and then later fix them and put them to use or get them to their new home.
All while wondering the unsafe and unforgiving world with its many secrets.
>>
>>67078527
To get a t2 part you need a t1 part, to get a t3 part you need a t2. Though I think my DM did away with that and just required you to have the proper number of parts, because if you have two t1s it means you already gave up on a t2, and being forced to take a part that isn't fluffy for your character is a pain.
>>
>>67078750
>with the ability to access minds, while also acting as a sort of “router” so the other dolls in the party could back them up, with potentially less risk to the dolls plugging in than to the doll equipped to act as the modem.
If you we’re going to do this I’d recommend making the parts for it free at chargen if this is going to be a properly dangerous setting. The party already had to try to protect the mind modem girl and divert resources to repair that ability if it breaks, so making her a load that needs to be carried rather than anuseful participants combat and conversation sections would get frustrating in a hurry.
Protoca is also the DM. Our group only totals three players so it's common for him to fill out the group with a support/escort character to round out the party. At some point I want to return the favor and just let him run a character but the prospect of running a game is still a little daunting.
It's not uncommon for him to make 'guide' type characters to help get us into the plot. Protoca's 'role' was essentially to provide Port and Tachi with some direction while they figured everything out and grew into their party Positions naturally (Port being Sorority, Tachi an Automata, and Protoca a Junk). She blocked most of the hits, but it still burned through her defends fairly well.
On the note of the Boot-Knife - there was no knife, fluff wise. Its legs are just really strong. So, imagine an armless robot in a kung-fu showdown with a giant undead monster, wherein its only means of maneuvering and attack is its legs.
I think it's hilarious it did so well. Still almost totally broken and living on a prayer, though.
Would you all say that having a group of 3 has made the game run more reliably for you guys?
I’ve noticed that game groups I’ve been in tended to run best with a GM and 2 or 3 players which is a group of 3 or 4. 5 and up gets shakey in terms of reliability of sessions happening.
Our data may be biased. We're all unreliable f***wits except maybe for Port, lol.
>>67082658
As someone who has had a group with 8+ players, it is generally easier to have everyone present. There is the caveat that one missing player means you can't run the session but it's still way less of a pain than getting five or more people all present.
>>
>>67082658
It helps if your players are either NEETs or people who are good at sticking to things and not letting other people barge into time they have dedicated to something.
As for specifically for nechronica, the game gets harder to make work without resorting to bullshit, combat balance breaks down even harder than it normally does.
>As someone who has had a group with 8+ players, it is generally easier to have everyone present. There is the caveat that one missing player means you can't run the session but it's still way less of a pain than getting five or more people all present.
What did he mean by this?
Personally, the understanding that the game will go whether your here or not, does more to ensure a stable game. People who take issue with that tend to be the ones who would decide that it's fine if they decide to be a no show for whatever reason.
I meant that it's easier to have everyone present in a smaller group of players than in a large one, but in a smaller group of players having someone missing the session causes more issues. I just didnt phrase it quite right.
>As for specifically for nechronica, the game gets harder to make work without resorting to bullshit, combat balance breaks down even harder than it normally does
At above how many PCs?
The Nier:Automata characters scale really well to Nechronica.
It was talked on some time ago in a past general.
I just looked over my own Doll, my concept was to make one who was older and a kind of jaded veteran sniper type, though one who would Martyr herself for the team too.
I never picked between Damaged Goods or Lame Beast for her skill.
Anyways, here's what I have stat-wise for my girl. Her character art would likely be the white haired girl with the guns seen in pics upthread.
What do you think, anons?
Position;
*Junk*
o Skill; Damaged Goods or Lame Beast.
Classes;
*Primary: Requiem*
o Concentration (cost 2 rapid, +1 to rolls to hit this turn)
o Gun god (+1 to all ranged attacks).
*Secondary: Stacy*
o Protect (range 1, when a doll is damaged, you may take the damage instead).
**Reinforcement Parts**
Armament 3, Mutation 2.
Tier 1 Armament:
o Sniper Rifle (cost 2 action, range2-3 attack 1, +1 to hit)
Tier 2:
o Twin Pistols (cost 3 action, range0-1 attack 3 + chain attack 1)
Tier 3:
o Anti-Tank Rifle (cost 4 action, range1-3 attack 5).
Tier 1 Mutation:
o Heart (+1 action point)
Tier 2 Mutation:
o Cold Light (cost 1 action, until end of turn or part is damaged, select enemies are -1 to hit the other dolls).
What is the point of machinegun and shotgun?
>>
>>67083242
Swap one of those out for kung-fu
>>
>>67083041
Oh sorry, that part fell off somehow, once you get past 4 PCs.
>>67083242
>Lame Beast or Damaged Goods
Lame Beast isn't a terrible idea for a stacy, though you do have to run that balance of being able to soak hits and getting banged up enough to use it. Damaged Goods is also fine, but useless if the party's clearing fights in one round.
>Sniper Rifle
Sniper Rifle's pointless and bad without Instrument of Evil and Lullaby, swap it out for Kung-fu
>protect
The use you're going to get out of that is dubious if you're hanging back.
>Concentration
Made to Be Broken would honestly be a better pick than that. Concentration's a bit too pricy for a +1 when you're not throwing out at least 5 attacks per round while 1 part per round is peanuts for +1 to all it gives you.
Lack of lullaby on a gun-user isn't the best but if you're rolling at +2 and using twin pistols, it's not going to be too awful.
>>
>>67083289
Shotgun is easy and reliable damage on low level threats. Machingun is just bad and you shouldn't use it.
>>
Not the same Anon but how does this look?
Position: Court
Class: Requiem
Secondary Class: Baroque
Armaments
tier 1 kung-fu
tier 2 shotgun
tier 3 AT Rifle
Mutations
tier 1 Heart
tier 2 Extra Arms
Skills
- Anticipate
- Trusted Companion
- Gun God
- Instrument of Evil
>>
>>67083766
If you're getting shotgun, get lullaby, it is always worth it.
Requiem/Baroque is pretty good, because you can use Lullaby+Instrument of evil to bring a lot of weapons up to par.
And anticipate is always a good choice.
>>
>>67083876
Do you mean sacrificing Gun God for lullaby, or puck up Lullaby as soon as possible?
I’ve found the extra reliability of the +1 to shooting rolls to be valuable when laying down long range fire support. Which is all I’ve done in combat.
>>
>>67083997
Swap trusted companion for Lullaby. You're making double the amount of attacks with shotgun when using lullaby, unless you plan on hanging back and using AT rifle with shotgun just working as a back up, which is a bit more forgivable.
>>
>>67084163
>shotgun when using lullaby, unless you plan on hanging back and using AT rifle with shotgun just working as a back up, which is a bit more forgivable.
That is exactly my plan.
Is it a poor plan?
Ideas a-brewin'
Enhancement Tier 1
>SMC Server "Datascape" (Head, Cost "see effect", Auto, Range 0)
>To use this manuever, the enemy must have an intact [Brain].
>As it's cost, take 3 Madness per each Memory Restored. (Max of 2)
>User injects their 'will' into the mind, melding to unlock hidden memories inside target. For the time until process is done, (or undone) the user and target can not move nor be damaged without undoing the entire process. Both are taken to 0 AP until otherwise. For each memory, a Action Check (-2) must be performed to try to unlock the memory. If failed, the connection is undone, user takes 1 madness, and both user and target return to fighting order. If successful, a memory is unlocked/placed, and target is unable to battle until End Phase.
>"Part of the computer that figured out the mystery to alpha day Necromancy. Will it give peace of mind, or literal madness? None know more than you."
Enhancement Tier 2
>CMT Logs (Any, Cost "See Effect", Auto, Range 0)
>To use this manuever, the user must have SMC Server "Datascape".
>Updates cost of "Datascape", from from 3 to 2 Madness. Action Check is now (0).
>"The very logs of the Beta Necromancy line. The power to delete the negative and tranplant the good. Even if they are not their own."
Enhancement Tier 3
>Necromancer Files (Head, Cost "See Effect", Auto, Range 0)
>To use this manuever, the user must have both SMC Server "Datascape" and CMT Logs.
>Updates cost of "Datascape", from 2 to 1 Madness. Max memories to 3. Action check is now (+1). Failed check becomes a Madness Check.
>"A necromancer's own files on how to transplant a memory into a living corpse. How you came upon this? Who knows. Maybe, just maybe. You were once it's owner!?"
Thinking up mutations..
Also, throw out ideas/changes/suggestions/critics. Open to all.
Just a random anon that wanted to throw down some ideas. Loved the story time and wanted to join in the discussions / fun.
I am very confused.
Is it meant to be the Secondary functions for the mind meld parts that get use outside of “enabling journey into the center of the mind/to heal the mind” adventures?
Ala,
( >>67081592
>You should come up with more than a few parts related to dream-diving; maybe give them some form of minor utility outside of a dreamdive so they don't need to be free. I would go tier 1-2-3 Enhancements. Maybe another set for Mutations. )
Nice work replicating the very awkward “Japanese to English” flavor text.
>>67084400
Cool. Always happy to have more people contributing.
>>
>>67084303
this could just be my inexperience showing but I don’t think madness cost that high is sustainable. Especially since you start the game 1 madness point away from full crazy on each fetter and you can only recover one madness point before your first combat if you are starting with the standard one treasure.
Your gonna be nuttier than Macho Man Randy Savage in no time, and then it’s heartbreak city if you don’t cripple the rest of your party acting on the compulsions of your fetters first.
>>
>>67084604
You are correct, costing 3 madness is insane. Assuming that it doesn't work like failing a madness check and you have to allocate all that to fetters, you're auto-heartbroken if it's just 3 players.
To be fair, I forgot about the adventure part and put that as an action check, but I'm sure a good DM can fluff the heck out of it / change it to better suit their designs. Though, essentially yes, I based them off of the technology that resulted into the Necromancy tech would instill Dolls with memories. Essentially, using tech that they don't understand (until the latter upgrades) to become a pseudo-necromancer.
>Nice work replicating the very awkward “Japanese to English” flavor text.
Always love making stories for my items.
>>67084604
More like my inexperience, since I haven't ever played the game. Just very interested in the lore and game. Could easily lower that, or get rid of it for the madness if the user fails. Mostly based that off of being melded with someone that has fully lost their mind. No one comes back from that, and doesn't take mental damage in some way.
>>
>>67084620
2 players.
You still have your treasure. But with 3 players the first thing to ding your sanity or the first time a combat lasts more than 1 turn you would be automatic heartbreak yes.
>>
>>67084698
Meant 3 players total, not 3 + you.
>>
>>67084743
Ah ok then.
Have The Stig as a doll in a maid uniform.
>>67067379
I recognize Fran. Who are the others?
>>
>>67085108
Aren't they all from the same series?
>>67082392
Monty's charming, but he's not much of a friend unless he's got some sort of abominable intelligence we don't know about. As for how Tachi reacts to things, she's an Automata. She mostly just shoves stuff off and doesn't think about it.
Which seems to work, because she easily has less madness than anyone else in the party. During the Queen encounter, Tachi's player was basically shouting 'NO, HIT ME!' at the spirit flowers because her fetters are so empty right now.
