The Oct 31st unofficial translation.

What is the beat or most unique use of legions you have seen?

My experience has been the GM using them as filler surrounding a single big horror and two smaller ones. (A bunch of undead soldiers, a couple attack dogs, and one 2 story tall Frankenstein looking thing.

However the dice were outright hostile to the GM So the legions spent most of the fight destroying eachother, and one of the dogs and the giant basically finished eachother off. Though the GM did use the dice results as a springboard to paint gory scene of an undead, and by this point mostly skeletonized, hound turning around and ripping into what was left of the giant, only to be crushed by the last twitches of the giant’s remaining hand.
Then the GM used that to have the doll the hound had been trying to kill recover a memory of having once had a pet dog.

So good work by my GM work rolling with the punches. But I still don’t really understand what legions are for since it’s probably not “friendly fire”.

One of my GMs made a custom legion type of masked partygoers/ball dancers. They couldn't actually attack, but when they moved they could take one extra move for every ten in the legion and also take one character in the same zone along with them when they used the ability. He was effectively knocking us around like pinballs to a rhythm.

That’s neat, and helps give mechanical significant energy to the power of a press of people moving together.

What did the GM partner these legions with?
Or was it an encounter where the objective was to escape within a time limit?

Thanks.
I found it on 4chan at some point. No idea what it’s from.

Legions serve three primary functions.
#1: Canon fodder.
#2: Movement control.
#3: Punishing the Party for focusing too much on one specific entity.

If the dice hate you, the dice hate you, but Legions can put out a surprising amount of damage if you leave them alone.

Especially Nightmares.
>>
>>69212205
Two fallen soldiers (warrior variants with guns).
Two fallen warriors (dismember).
Two savants.

Primarily the Dancers made it more difficult for the dolls to position, because their biggest damage users either had a minimum range or a range of 0.

There was something of a time limit, however. They were attempting to rescue someone in the room beyond, and the Dancers swelled in number every turn [based on how many Dancers were on the arena.]
>>
>>
>>69212205
A few generic horrors and two pretty mobile melee monster Savants. The only attack Actions that my character has at range 0 are Twin Pistols, fists, and jaw, so it's really not where I like to be, and he kept shoving out Thanatos into Tartarus.

Still managed to pull out the win, but most of us got chopped up pretty good.
>>
That Storytime with the various nechromancers and the trip across the Atlantic has me thinking about a game where the dolls lead a raiding or “collecting” force for a nechromancer.

Or a “book II” game where dolls fend off those kind of raiders.
>>
>>69213402
The soldiers/warriors were Savants, and that's a large part of how you chopped them up so quickly. It was a bloody fight for all involved.

I’ve heard of people adapting the “parts as hp” system for running mechs.
I guess you could also apply that to ship people.

What is the secret to making the cannon fodder ones tarpit but not Garoua so hard that the madness buildup at the end of each initiative stack kills the party?
>>

Thanks for the link.
>>
>>69215450
Part of it is knowing when to pull out what kind of enemies. If your players have little madness to spare then throwing enemies at them that deal alot of madness is a dickmove. And knowing how your group works. If they throw madness-rerolls around like candy, then you don't want to be too mean when it comes to madness attacks.

Of course, if your players keep doing that and cheese things a little too good then you can pull out the madness attacks, just to remind them of their place.

It sounds like it lets you use all your attack actions at once, even though you cant normally use Actions at the same time. I assume it still takes AP, it just all counts as occurring on whichever count you use the ability on.

Yes. So they all take place on the Action timing or whatever. Or Rapid if you have a few to declare. Actions already occur simultaneously, you're just doing a bunch of extra ones on your turn.

Not really since they added
(ignore the difference between your current Action Point value and the Count)
Which makes it clear doing every attack doesnt cost AP and you just annihilate a single target with all your attacks basically
>>
>>69217578
I think that means that the count doesn't progress even though you're spending AP. So you have to subtract the total cost once you're done

I accept Doll boys only if they're as cute and emotionally vulnerable as their female counterparts. No, you cannot play Grizzled McStubble the Adult Human Man walking around with a group of little anime children (Well, unless I REALLY trust you) but if you want to play a cute demure killing machine or yandere crossdresser or something else that is more in line with the games themes I am all for it.
>>
>>69218993

I once played a hard oiled doll. She eventually collapsed into a psychotic fugue from stress, no madness points, it was just where the character was going based on the situation as she saw/knew it.

Now that I think about it, i wouldn’t have played her any different as a male.

Still would have wound up alone in a cellar bearing her/his soul to a decapitated and fused-to-the-floor zombie she/he convinced was her/his old boss from before the end because she/he NEEDED someone to talk to about just how doomed the party was, so her/his mind CREATED someone to fill that purpose.
>>
>>69219454
I mean yeah but in the end you were still playing a cute(?) anime girl in an anime game. If someone came to be and said their character concept for my nechronica campaign was like a 30 year old military male with scars and a beard and shit, that wouldn't really jive with the campaign's aesthetic, right? If you're gonna be a doll you're gonna be cute or gap moe, them's the rules. I mean, I might accept it if I really trusted the player like I said, but I'd be expecting something stellar to compensate.
>>
>>69219770
what? the actual lore and setting has little if nothing that screams anime, or specifically moe and cute. hell, theres actually very little to the setting or buildup of campaigns.

its literally 'Humanity basically made necromancy, but via technology. war and apocalypse happened, because thats how these things work. now, the only survivors are Necromancers, people with significant control and power over these destructive technologies, but to avoid more war in a world that it would serve no point in, they each stick to their own areas. to amuse themselves, they use their necromancy to build dolls and other necromantic contraptions, and put them through the ringer for entertainment.'

the rules use the excuse they make dolls girls in order to try and encapture the essence of childhood, but for one, never really encourages moe or cuteness, it even outright says and encourages dolls to be able to and have 'souls way beyond their bodies years', implying allowing for a party of uncute and unmoe characters, in many ways characters of mature adulthood facing the horrible existence of being shoved into a kids body.

it really wouldn't be hard or even be out of the realm of logic to allow for greater diversity of character, not every Necromancer is the same person, no feeling/goal he wishes to put the Dolls through. but, mostly, i dont get everyones freaking out about and saying 'its the rules its the only way you can play it' when the game itself both allows and encourages characters physically up to 17 years of age, and mental/soul maturity of any age. the rules themselves say differently, i guess is the TLDR of it.

>what? the actual lore and setting has little if nothing that screams anime, or specifically moe and cute. hell, theres actually very little to the setting or buildup of campaigns.

A-anon

While from an in-game perspective it doesn't seem like it is very moe, but you are deluding yourself if a Japanese game explicitly encouraging you to play as traumatized little girls isn't expecting things to be moe on a meta level.
>>
>>69211905
>I just wanna storytime, man.

Looking forward to it.
>>
>>69219998
no, my point is it by its own rules doesn't not have to be nor is a rule it has to be. sure, there are clear anime inspirations and encouragements, but there is also plenty else in the book allow and encouraging other playstyles.

it has certain leanings yes, but it is not at all a rule you have to play the game in that specific way, nor from what was included and written within the book, were the creators trying to discourage or disallow a different tone/playstyle to a pretty good degree.

its peoples instance it HAS to be cute and moe as a rule im discussing against, not that anything within the book has such elements.
>>
>>69219942

I’m just imagining an old shut in building model railroads because it’s easier than making war on Matilda or Jerry who you haven’t talked to in over a century.
>>
>>69220070
In fact the author outright encourages players and necromancer to cooperate to take the setting in whatever direction they're comfortable with, his own preferences aside.
>>
>>69220109
>"Hey Tim, wanna mentally break dolls souls with us?"
>"GO AWAY JERRY CANT YOU SEE IM BUSY?!"
>Tim turns back to look out his window, where his horde of zombies and other horrific creations are reconfiguring the landscape into one giant 'model' railroad track, just like the one Tims dad never let him have.

>>69220114
not surprising, and glad to hear that. its less of anger or even annoyance honestly, just so much as baffling to me how hard coded people are to a specific view of the setting, when even the rulebook itself clearly allows and intended for it to be applied to a greater scope then most seem to think of it within.

What guidelines do you recommend for deciding when to start bringing in new memory fragments?

-For a short campaign?
-For a long campaign?
>>
>>69220230
Mm. The only core theme of Nechronica is its struggle against tragedy. The dolls' mission is to howl into the uncaring void and make it sympathize with them.
>>
>>69220355
a good rule of thumb is that when your players characters are starting to feel calm, happy, or appear to be coming to terms with something, throw something in the gears to stop that nonsense. a memory fragment can work stupendously well for that.
>>
>>69218482
That's just a meguca
>>
>>69220355
For the campaign I'm running, which is currently 20ish sessions in scope, I did 3 general adventure arcs for the players to learn the game and their characters. Then I did 3 character-centered arcs for each doll. Plan now is to start wrapping everything all together in a similar block or two.
>>
>>69220070
But there is. Most of it has to do with the fluff, some parts talk about being cute and the actual book has the Corpse Sorority talk directly to the reader and explain the rules in a very polite and cute way.

Picking up from: https://boards.fireden.net/tg/thread/67067379/#q67077426
When we last left our girls, they were mangled, confused, and horribly distraught, but still alive!*
I'm kind of wrecked from today, so just a quick update tonight. Enough to get in a very plot relevant event and leave off on a cliffhanger.
>The girls lay in the clearing, collecting themselves. The sun must be beginning to set; it's starting to get dark.
>Protoca, even after all the medical care the four of them can muster, plus her own regeneration, is sporting a pair of shattered hands, a ruined shoulder, and is missing her jaw.
>Port's in a similar state of disrepair. Her jaw has popped apart at the old seams and one of her hands has been blown to pieces. One leg is bent askew, but still supports her weight. Most of her midsection is missing.
>Hope is pretty much in the same shape as Port, except she doesn't have the benefit of metal limbs to dull the pain.
>Tachi, having cannibalized parts from the Gardener, has only superficial damage.
>There aren't any compatible parts lying around for B3-206. He's stuck without arms and parts of his torso for now.
>Port's out of wire for her jaw, but manages to salvage a length of synthetic yarn from her plate carrier and uses that to keep the pieces of her jaw from flopping around.
>She has to prop the break up with her bum arm in order to speak properly, and she's pretty sure some of her teeth have come loose.
>After taking a moment to stare off into the distance and comprehend what's just happened, Port stands up and limps over to the spot where Hope is curled up, crying.
>B3-206 follows Port like a shadow.
>Protoca is already there, standing about as straight as a willow. With two broken hands and no jaw, there isn't anything she can do but keep watch.
>"Hope? Hope, are you okay?"
>Hope just whimpers a little
>>
>>69220418
doesn't matter. the actual rules and other parts of the book still allow for and encourage a different tone and take on the world.
>>
I keep having the thought that Ash Arms would adapt to the Nechronica ruleset really well.

But I wouldn't have anyone to play it with anyways.
>>
>>69220465
never heard of it, but looking it up, i like the art so far. like with most gacha games(as it appears to be?), i cant actually find anything on the actual gameplay and not much on the story. though, its in pre-registration so maybe thats why.
>>
>>69220427
>Looking closer, Port can see that Hope's shoulder is dislocated, not destroyed. Without looking, or really even thinking, she tries to gesture Protoca closer. "Protoca, be my hands here."
>She looks up and just now realizes Protoca's hands are both shattered, and that her shoulder's joint socket is basically gone.
>Protoca just shrugs. The motion causes her arm to droop precariously as the flesh holding it to the joint sags.
>Port's eyes widen in alarm. "C-careful! Careful!" She actually manages to blush. "S-sorry."
>Protoca looks mildly bothered but, to avoid Port flying off into a lecture, she keeps herself from shrugging again.
>She likely feels useless in the current circumstance.
>Tachi moves over. "I can help. What do you need?"
>"Hold- hold her here ah- and here." Port points to a spot at the base of Hope's neck and another just beneath her armpit.
>Tachi nods and complies. Port grabs Hope's arm and gives it a heave.
>SNAP - POP!
>The joint slots into place with a whimper of pain from Hope.
>Jawless, Hope can only sputter out a half-completed telepathic message. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I got confused an..." but she sputters off into a mishmash of mental ramblings, whimpers, and apologies before she can finish.
>Port cradles Hope's head in her hands and combs her working fingers through the girls hair, cooing softly to try and calm her down.
>"Shh, shh... it's not your fault, Hope. None of this is your fault." After a moment trying to console the girl, Port raises her head to look out over the Rose Forest.
>"This is my fault. I made a bad call."
>Tachi's face quirks just a little. She might look annoyed. "This isn't your fault either, Port. You were right earlier; it's like this everywhere."
>Port 'hm's noncommittally and stares out over the forest a little while more. Her thoughts turn to the cat they met, but before she can dwell on it there's a burst of static from B3-206
>>
>>69220452
Rules for being cute don't exist in any type of system. If you want to actually break down Nechronica as a system to its very core, you actually only have

>characters must be made of breakable/detachable parts
>characters must have a quantified relationship with each other, that can worsen or improve over time
>characters must have very few memories starting out and may uncober more through gameplay

That is it. That is ABSOLUTELY it. Nothing else is required from the system. Want to play as a crew of maintence robots that somehow gained sentinence in an abandoned space station taken over by aliens? Want to play in a modern setting as modern childrens toys going on an adventure while avoiding humans? Want to play as animated servants and golems of a frail wizard that sends them out for the simplest tasks? You can do all of these with no problem in Nechronica. I even have done some. Just like you can avoid the Moe.

But that is not what people assume a game of Nechronica will look like and, while I can't force you to play my way and you can't force me to play yours, the majority of players and GMs see the overall tone lf the book and want their moemisms in. And they're not wrong either.
>>
>>69220390
Those can make for good inspiration.

Have a horror, or maybe a savant.
>>
>>69220609
...Are you arguing against or for him, because he was saying the rules are flexible enough to allow for what you just described doing?
>>
>>69220527
It's been out for about a week, no EN version yet tho. The combat map just made me think of it, and it has that Girls' Frontline grittiness that most of the *musume games lack.

Game is regular turn-based but should work perfectly well with the count. Already has something like 7 character classes.
>>
>>69220609
..whats your point? an Anon was saying the Rules REQUIRE moe and cuteness, and i was pointing out that was actually outright not the case. he kept arguing as if i was wrong, and i was simply continuing the discussion of pointing out how the rules outright allowed for that not to be the case. i even admitted that yes, certain tones about the book are moe and the like. my point, again, was that it was not by the rules enforced to be that way, and was encouraged to allow the opposite.

people can expect and play however they want, which is exactly what i was saying. they cannot, however, factually say the book enforces moe and cuteness in its rules, as that is actually factually wrong, which is what i was saying and the other anon seemed to refuse to be willing to admit to, hence the continuation of our conversation.

I'm guessing/feeding most of it through google translate but it's a post-apocalypse setting something like a Catholic version of Reign of Fire through the Japanese lens of what they think Catholicism is. The Resetters/Lizetta are some sort of environment manipulators (or at least I think that's why the enemies are mostly made out of rock/ice/magma).

hrm, might have to give it a try. love the feel of Girls Frontline, but the combat is simply too boring for me. Azur Lanes at least a bit more interesting gameplay wise, but the art and tone was alot more iffy to me.

otherwise, i can see it working well with the Nechronica system. hits taking out tracks, guns, ammo racks, radios, etc. could work really well, yeah, though doing armor might need to be tweaked. it alos would be a bit difficult to do any air combat, as losing a wing or an engine would be a death sentence.

I wouldn’t use happy be describe my player’s character’s. But I think I’m starting to get what you mean.

Are you saying you use memories more as something you drop in for pacing and story, rather than something you ration out to avoid the players running out of gaining memory fragments as a form of progression or some PCs becoming madness resistant faster than than others?

Or am I mistaken?

>Gently, Port sets Hope's head down on the grass and positions herself at Hope's back, her forearms bottom-up on the grass. "Hope, can you roll onto your back for me?"
>Hope complies
>Port scoops the little girl into a gentle princess carry. As gentle as she can, anyway, with the hurry she's in
>The girls pile into Monty. Protoca's in the passenger seat this time, since Port has the only functioning hand between the two of them
>Port flips the ignition switch and they're off, puttering through the undergrowth and away, drill mulching merrily
>The forest thins as they go, first the great boughs vanish, and then the bushes, and then the giant flowers begin to shrink
>It's been night for some time now.
>As their path finally clears, a castle comes into view on the horizon. Or a strange parody of one.
>The castle looks like a child's rendition, put together out of tin and cardboard, while crude shacks of sheet metal spread about its base in a sprawling shantytown.
>But above all this looms a black spire at the castle's center. It stretches into the night sky like a needle. Its face is bare and dark except for the occasional dull green window(?) acting as a point of light.
>Tendrils of energy coalesce near the point, balling into an orb floating right above the tip and illuminating everything in a ghostly, moon-blue glow.
>Monty jumps and lurches to one side.
>A giant shovel chops down into Monty's hood. There's the deafening screech of metal tearing as it works through the right hand side of the vehicle, exposing the girls to open air.
>Tachi panics, laying down on the cannon's firing control and spraying cannon rounds in every direction.
>>
>>69220742
The combat is pretty damn good, you've got multiple skills and attack modes per unit and it's all action points so easily translatable to the count.

Most of the planes survive on evasion, they're not very tanky so far even after leveling up a bunch, so that fits. Big thing with planes is attacking both air and ground targets so they tend to be glass cannons.

It has unit death like Kancolle, but you can produce a stock of backup dolls with a production resource so it's not forcing you to gacha to get them back. Could play with memory backup stuff adapting to the madness system.
>>
>>69220392
So how have you paced out memory recovery across all of this?

For instance

Did each of them regain one (bring each of them up to 3) before you made a character centered arc for each one where the doll that was the focus of the arc gained a couple more? (Bringing each to 5 memory fragments by the end of the last of the 3 character centered arcs).
>>
>>69220962
I don't *think* I dropped any in the first three sessions. After that it was once per session [3 per character/arc], and now relatively evenly distributed.

Generally no more than one per session, and at a pivotal point in the session.

I came under the impression that the world wasn't as fucked as it seems in the setting actually. In only a hundred years since the ultimate war that ended everything the weather is a permanent yellowy spring not unlike a nice day in Warsaw or Beijing and mutant forests and beasts are reconquering the land.

If it wasn't for the negromancers being retarded making undead shits when making actual humans and animals was widespread alongside necromancy and generally working hand in hand with it you could potentially rebuild civilization very quickly.

I think the point of the setting is more that the world is fucked hard yes but it ultimately boils down to humanity and its unoficial successors the necromancers having completely fucked up and wasting any hope of salvation when technically the world could still potentially be salvaged but will instead go on on its own completely independant of the remnant of humanity.

I actually think that the setting would have been better if absolutely nothing alive remained and it was just a sterile cold desert. Because yes the complete end of the human race un-living its last spasms is not cool and all but do you know what is fucking cool ? GIANT MUTANT INSECT DINOSAURS BATTLING DOOMSDAY ROBOTS !

>It's another Gardener, already under the cannon's firing arc
>Port snarls her displeasure as she kicks her Lahti up from its resting spot and into the crook of her shoulder; her shot lands dead center but the Gardener's plates absorb most of the blow
>Tachi leaps from the rear cabin screaming bloody fury, descending down onto the unlucky bot in a flurry of swirling blades
>She tears into the Gardener, damaging it heavily but it's still in the fight
>As she leaps out of the cabin, she realizes the Gardener isn't alone
>Skeletons are swarming towards Monty from all directions, their time-bleached bones cast in stark white from the glow of the distant tower
>Towering above them are a quartet of four jester-like undead, dancing around like marionettes on stringless limbs, sword blades flashing in the dark. They're each a different color; red, blue, green, or yellow
>There's intelligence in their movement, these are more than simple horrors
>Enter the Harlequins
>Red, blue, and green sway towards Monty
>Yellow reaches out with telescopic limbs, savaging Port's limbs with a shower of blades. Port returns with another shot of the Lahti. Protoca is trying to interpose herself between Hope and the encroaching horde
>The three Harlequins contnue their advance; they're on top of Monty now, and more skeletons are starting to pile up alongside them
>The closest lashes out at Tachi with a blade. Her bones absorb the worst of it, but she notices something about the closer Harlequins is... off. They don't move right
>Hope lashes out with her Psychedelic powers. The yellow Harlequin twists in on itself and drags its blades along its sides, tearing gaping wounds into it's own arms
>>

Pretty much. This session was a bit impromptu so there weren't a whole lot of details, but there also just wasn't much time for the girls to absorb anything.

>>69221311
>A wire shoots out from the yellow Harlequin's hip, looping around Hope and dragging her out into the night.
>Protoca is trapped in Monty's front cabin by the relentless press of the skeleton horde. Desperate to do *something,* she lashes out at the nearest Harlequin with her scissors.
>The blades cut deep cutting away one of the Harlequin's arms, but... the Harlequin's unphased. Parts of the flesh mend even as Protoca's blades pass through them.
>This one is a Horror.
>All three of the ones on top of Monty are.
>Port curses. They're a distraction.
>A blade answers Protoca's. Her arms are cut away cleanly at the shoulder in an instant.
>Port narrowly dodges an attack aimed at herself and flicks a Psycho Blaster shot at the yellow Harlequin in the back. The bolt wrecks the Harlequin's head.
>A follow up shot with Lahti slams crossways through the Harlequin's upper body and destroys her arms.
>The skeletons are still piling forward, grasping at Port and Protoca. They've almost buried Monty.
>Tachi barrels through the skeletons using her rocketpack, charging the yellow Harlequin herself.
>Her attack slams into the Harlequin's legs, tearing them to pieces, but the wire is still fastened safely to the Savant's hip.
>Time's up
>The yellow Harlequin launches another wire from her hip and she's away, swinging like a monkey with Hope fastened securely to her hip.
>The Horror Harlequins retreat in her wake, leaving Port, Protoca, and Tachi to smash down the skeletons swarming them.
>Freed from the menace of the Harlequins' blades, the skeletons are a minor threat, but the fight is a slog.
>As the girls put the last pile of bones out of its misery, they find a note ruffling in the breeze.

>'Dear Crab-Bitch: Come home or the dolly gets it.'

>The cycle will, once again, come to completion.

>The World represents the sum of experience, and the completion of a journey. What is, what will be, and what has once been before, all coincide to meet at this point. In the distance, your foe rests at the center of this design, overlooking The World you know. At the culmination of all things, it will rest upon your shoulders to determine... whether the story ends, or begins again.

You can still do that. One of my games takes place in a setting where 99% of the planet is just gray death. The other 1% is made up of killer bugs and artificially supported death flora.

In the other game there's a fairly large swath of land populated entirely by undead who have been woven into a very, very close facsimile of civilization by the necromancer managing them; complete with livestock and pets (though if these are undead or not, I don't know). As far as the people living there know, nothing's amiss.

>the actual lore and setting has little if nothing that screams anime
Ignoring the entire thematic point of having the characters being cute and somewhat innocent, the game is about ultra powerful characters mowing down monsters with their anime superpowers.
There is no fucking way to divorce it from anime and I have no idea why you would want to if you have any interest in playing it.
>>
>>69223674
i hardly got the feeling of 'ultra powerful characters' from it myself, but you;re welcome to your interpretation. nor did i see the game being about that at all, the game seems to be much more about suffering and struggling in an unforgiving and uncaring world, over being a badass.

you can easily divorce it from anime and theres plenty of things in this game and setting to like even if you do not like anime. you people have little imagination, creativity, or ability to think even slightly outside the box, im beginning to understand. how /tg/ constantly disappoints me on these points compared to almost every other board or site ive been on ill never understand.

Is this game heavy on boardgame-like combat?
I've been craving something that lets me play an asymmetrical squad skirmish with roleplaying elements
>>
>>69224810
The system is pretty much 90% combat rules, but it's not built to handle every sort of fight since the combat is pretty limited if you want varied scenarios: the way madness and recovery works, it is made to only handle significant battles, you can't have the girls explore an area full of weak undead, fight a tiny group, take a breather and resume exploration, nor can you have long, drawn out battles where they slowly make through a massive enemy force.

Instead, the focus is always on narratively significant fights with opponents slightly weaker or stronger than the PCs and there is less focus on positioning and using the environment like many skirmish games have, since the distance is very abstract and there are no rules for using your surroundings for advantages, it's all GM fiat.

I've got some time to kill, so I will continue the storytime of the siren song of silent space from the last thread while I continue to bother a certain someone to continue the story of what happened in portugal in another game. The first part of the storytime is in the last thread.

We left of with the party being a mess after the first bit of combat that was thrown at them, both broken in spirit and body and being told roughly where they are (a space ship called Euphrates) and what their job from now on was (being part of the crew). Juliette had to be carried by Nia through the weird corridors of the ship while Dominic was being carried in a hug by Merry. While they walked, they saw spider-like abominations, which later turned out where part of the ships manual labor parts. The group mostly ignores them for now, as they aren't in the mindset of understanding those things for now and keep heading towards ''Engineering'' to get their bodies repaired.
>>
>>69225749
You can do it, but the mechanics won't support it well. If you play those fights, the dolls stomp the enemies without taking any damage or they get crushed. You can just do killing weak small numbers of undead with freeform or action checks, but that is pretty dull if you were after "asymmetrical squad skirmish".
>>
>>69225779

Engineering was not quite how one might expect things to look like, but then again, they where on a weird meat-space-ship-thing. The ground was stained with various fluids and clearly old while the walls looked like something was hiding behind it. 3 gurneys where resting there already, with a fourth one being pulled out by long, emanciated arms. Starting to realize what's awaiting them scared and disgusted the group even tho they hold together.

The voice of an old woman invites them in while Nia and Juliette talk about yes, they where quite mechanical in nature, so it was only logical that they would get fixed in engineering and not in a medbay. Dominic requested not to get any injections.

Once they walk inside, they see what 'engineering' looks like, human shaped with long and mess hair that makes it look like a woman in her mid 30's, if you'd ignore the sewn shut mouth, the many eyes she has on her head, the lack of a nose, ears and 'neck'. What little that could qualify for a neck was little more than flesh connecting the head to multiple arms of various material, length and purpose. The lower body of it looked like that of a slug and entirely too big to fit through the door.
>>
>>69225877
Juliette was the first one to get placed on a gurney, even as everyone stares at 'engineering' for a while, still scared about everything. Nia soon followed along with Dominic. Merry did need some more convincing, as she was fairly fine, but engineering insisted on a checkup to see if everything in her body has been connected right. That and a bit of warmth from her hands convinced her to lay down.

Engineering straps everyone into the gurneys and makes sure that they where comfortable for a while and informing everyone that they get a treat if they behave, then goes to work. It pulls out a pair of glasses ending in a pair of smaller glasses ending in a pair of smaller glasses and gets put infront of one set of it's eyes.

Juliette gets focused by the head while tendrils form under other pairs of it's eyes that turn to the other groups wounds and bodies. Merry gets a termometer forces into her, Dominic gets a shot of something in his body while Nias check up and repairs look more like that of a car mechanic. It is at this point that engineering is informing them all that they are clinically dead.

The reactions of everyone are a mix of denial and agreeing because of what they remember, followed by everyone wondering how they ended up on the ship. There is no answer to that, other than a quick ''We don't keep records of where you came from'' followed by the information that we all came from different planets and the notice that the repairs on their bodies where done. And as promised, the group did receive a treat for their compliance. 4 glasses of purple juice, smelling of flower with an even better taste. They all drink it, while Dominic ends up sizzling most of the liquid out of his eyesockets after drinking it.
>>
>>69226040
The group was free to do whatever at this point. The boarders where gone, their repairs where done, they had no other pressing issues at the time, but engineering did suggest finding their quarters in the ship. And for lack of anything else to do, that's what they did.

By now, the group started to try and get along with each other better and slowly starts sharing the few tidbits that they remember with each other. Merry starts by stating that she remembers a funeral and a few other things she enjoyed while Nia explains the myth of folding 1000 paper cranes to receive a wish and that the juice tasted familiar to her and that the thought it's the last thing she'd ever get to drink. Dominic merely states that is voice back then was different and didn't sound like a 30 year old chainsmoker, followed by Juliette that she remembers doing sport.

This goes on for a while before they once again spot a spider-abomination, this time carrying a notebook away from something. Juliette uses her head to grab the notebook, as in, she throws her head at the thing to bite the notebook and aquire it that way.
>>
>>69225779
Yay.
>>
>>69226152
Juliette has to pull her head back quickly while the spider abomination was not happy about what just happened, but once her head is back on her torso with the notebook in tow and the rest of the group shooing it away, it gives up and scampers off, leaving them all to read it's contents. It's a diary of the previous crew and instructions for the next batch of undead, should they find this book.

Euphrates was not so happy about what just happened however and slowly descended one of it's eyes and mouth down to them, informing them that they shouldn't snoop through the belongings of people who have dead, but Nia manages to convince Euphrates that it would help them learn how to behave and what not to do in the long run. This makes the ship make this behavior slide just this once.

They skip through the diary once more but then keep heading forward again to find their quarters, which turns out to be one of a few rooms with 4 beds in them. They pick one of the rooms and make themselves at home for some time.

This is where I'll stop for now. Next in this story, more explanation for why they should stick with the ship, the first trip of the crew to a planet and the answer on what happens if you send a religious sect to a planet it hates.

Not solely a Legion, but I was reminded of this.

A boss fight I ran had an enormous Horror, very much like pic related. Like how most battles go, the Sisters slung their bloodthirsty Holic right into it's face and let her explode all her AP in a killer chain attack.

Now, when this thing had a part get destroyed, it created a 10 strong Legion of slithering parasites and buzzing chunks nearby, to reflect the bits and pieces that have been torn off it are still very much active and mutating. So the parts are getting blended up and the legion grows and grows and grows.

When the Legion becomes 100 strong, they all fuse together and make a duplicate of the original Horror. I had planned the way to defeat it would be to damage it, then destroy the Legions before they become a Horror.

Instead the Holic buzzed into it so hard and was so focused on landing dem big crits and damage, they missed the screeching of all the other players begging Holic to stop, and then looked back at the map to see the three Horrors and several Legions her rampage had created.

Whoops!

Your skills are strong but often come at a cost. It is not negative, it's just more costly overall in terms of sanity.
>no skills to help other dolls
Fair enough, even if you could argue that killing enemies before they can hurt your sisters in a tsundere way is helpful.
>an skill that actually harms other dolls
There are other skills like sororitys tough love that hurt your sisters for an effect
>only a short mention of other sisters on her description and how her desires are more important
Sure, but the actual flavortext of the book is rather secondary with how often things tend to get refluffed by necromancers.

Ultimately, holics are more self-destructive than destructive to sisters. If you think that is an asshole move then that's on your perception of things.

No. Or at least I didn't. We've always been ones to start on large grand campaign ideas that fizzle out, but somehow this has both become the longest running game of the group and the one we're closest to finishing, even though the premise was 'three dead girls meet in a bunker and have to escape.'

I got approached by my long-time DM who found the system boring for Port's campaign. By then I'd seen the Nechronica threads popping up now and then and was already interested. >After finally grinding down the last of the skeleton horde, the dolls take a short time to regain their composure and put themselves back together.
>Protoca is able to salvage a new set of bones and a shoulder socket from the skeletons. Port is able to trick Protoca's natural regeneration in generating some extra flesh to hold everything together.
>the result isn't pretty, but she can speak and move and fight.
>Port and Tachi salvage the destroyed portion of Monty for parts.
>Port mostly uses the salvaged parts to repair the damage to her limbs and Hopper. Tachi salvages a power cell and straps it into her back, hooking it's feeds into her mechanical parts. She also integrates some of the faster moving hydraulics into her leg assembly. She pesters Port for a bit of that high tensile strength wire she always seems to be carrying around.
Tachi gained Remote Attack and Energy Tube here.

We're talking traits, not skills. Holics don't have something positive like Alice's innocence or Junk's selflessness, they are someone nobody would want around but are forced on other players.
Tough love hurts sisters to help them in another way. Holics give sisters madness to heal their own, this is way different.
>>
>>69230365

>purely negative traits

He's talking about how there's not positive personality traits, not the skills.

>There are other skills like sororitys tough love that hurt your sisters for an effect

Tough love is still useful to your sisters, especially if you choose to use a weaker weapon to trigger it. Limit of madness just hurts your sisters and benefits you. You can use it safely, but it's the only skill that just lets you fuck other players with no benefit to them and can be used by someone who wants to be a cunt.

Even as someone who enjoyed playing Holic before, there's a few issues with holic both mechanically and thematically. The former is that it's the only position that gets to use madness productively; the latter is that all of its fluff points towards being a dick. Sure, you can play it in a way that doesn't make you a shit, but it's still the class whose fluff and mechanics push towards you being a dick and requires being a more conscientious player.
>>
>>69230446
>>69230473
Alright, working on it now.
>>
>>69230564
>>69230566

So you're saying that they have no positive personality traits, then say sure, you can play them with positive personality traits, just like how you can play an alice with negative personality traits instead of positive ones.

Madness can also get used by basicly everyone to reroll. While not as consistent in it's effect, it's still a decent use for madness.

Lastly, it is still just one skill that is actively hurting other players that isn't required in any way to be taken. If one skill is all it takes to be a mechanical bastard then there is something wrong.

>"TKs u((t siii c-c--c-c*at r--r-r--r" B3-206 chimes, like a popping speaker from times long gone.
>"We'll kill whoever we need to," Protoca assures solemnly.
>She does not shake or tremble or shift nervously in place. She is eerily still.
>Tachi holds the note close to her for a moment longer then, haltingly, holds it out to port. "Your machine is broken. He won't last another fight." Tachi says, trying to distract herself for even a moment.
>Port nods.
>Her expression softens as she looks over to B3. "I'm sorry we don't have any parts to patch you up, Bee."
>She shuffles over and runs her hand along a beaten up panel. "I wish you'd sit back. If you get much more broken up..." She clenches her jaw. "I don't know if I'll be able to put you back together."
>"TKs u((t siii c-c--c-c*at r--r-r--r" B3-206 repeats. "D--d--gn-- -a-nn-e-. S-t-s-t-a-y w--- s-s-s-A----"
>Port frowns. "You are not combat ready. You're falling apart."
>Tachi pats B3's metal hull. "I can carry him? Might be safer."
>"Wi-wi-willll st-t-t-t-t-," It repeats insistently.
>"We don't have time. If it wants to help, it can help," Protoca states. "Hope is..." Her hands clench, thinking of the last time she lost someone and was too late to find them again.
>Port wraps B3 in a hug, standing up on the tips of her fins as she lays her head against its chest. "Bee, you can barely stand. You can't help right now. That's fine, we can fix you later. But right now you need to stay back, maybe stay with Monty. If you break, I-" Her voice hitches just a bit. "Sam won't know what to do if you break, Bee. You need to stay safe until we can fix you up."
>"..."
>The machine assents reluctantly, clambering awkwardly into the seat of Monty without any arms.
>There's a few sparks from its side, and the turret up top suddenly spins of its own accord. "H-h-h-h-el-------?"
>The turret sinks, almost like a begging puppy.

Good bit of fetters are pretty hard yuri my man. And like that one anon said, the replay was part of the book and featured two dolls literally getting each other pregnant without dicks involved. That's ULTRA™ pure.
>>
>>69231174
guess we interpreted things differently then.

and nah, thats like, the opposite of pure. more of just utterly disgusting and freaky actually.
>>
>>69231231
if >>69230927 is you, you seem to think sisterly relations between two girl isn't yuri so yeah you probably interpreted it differently.
but then like

I mean, there's interpretation and then there's looking through a solid brick wall.
>>
>>69231287
i honestly dont remember that one, so fair, but i do not remember a significant amount of them being yuri. which as you stated, is typically romantic love, not sisterly.

mind you, siblings can feel strongly protective of eachother without it being romantic(though, still weird id argue), so again, its what you seem to be looking for making that way, in my opinion, over what it has to be or is always intended to be.
>>
>>69231350
Sisterly love between females IS romantic. I really don’t want to turn this thread into a lesson on yuri anon but I think you should study.

Isn't that the whole idea with Nechronica?
>>
>>69231375
....no, no its not. a sisterly bond is different than a romantic bond. i understand you might be from alabama where fucking your actual sister is common, but that is still not how familiar type relationships are supposed to work.

>>69231418
well sure, and in that regard its fine. i was just saying its hardly pure.

>Port giggles despite herself. "If you can avoid drawing too much attention to yourself." She looks back towards the tower.
>Tachi pats the side of Monty and nods once. "Stay here, Fire support." She says before turning toward the bridge's corpse and beginning to scuttle towards it
>Port and Protoca fall in behind her as they start picking their way down the 'ramp'
>Tachi feels the remains of the bridge lurch under her feet, some sort of explosive setting the ruin to collapse.
>Thinking quickly Tachi lunges for the other two girls and activates her jetpack, hoping to carry them off and into the slope on the other side of the bridge.
>Protoca whirls in surprise, caught completely off-guard by Tachi's sudden movement. "What is it- where's the-"
>Port activates her Hopper on reflex and goes flying backward, landing in a crouch. Her ears and eyes are both whirling. "What's happened?! What's wrong?"
>Tachi looks at the startled expressions of the other two girls and skids to a stop. Her Jetpack sputters before it even gets going as she turns to look at the already fallen bridge. The image of it's complete form flashes in her mind's eye; she can hear the mortars falling.
>"Sorry." Tachi states simply as she turns back towards the tower. "Memories. Explosions and death, making me see things."
>She feels like she's in freefall. She's falling. She ignores it.
>Port chews her lip. "I guess that makes sense. The note said 'come home.'" She turns to look down the road and then back to Tachi. "Would it help if we... held hands? Or something? To ground you here?"
>Tachi's steps are halting as she forces herself to live in the present. Ignoring the feelings from the past as she wills herself to continue. "I'll be fine." She says through gritted teeth. "Better to keep your weapon ready."
>Protoca looks at Tachi in concern, but follows.
>Port pulls the charging handle on Lahti and chambers a round, falling into line. "All right. But we're all here, don't forget."

>At the base of the fallen bridge, the girls come to the edge of the shanty town. Tin, aluminum, and thrown-together wood shelters abound.
>The dead amble about, almost like a natural crowd, except with no real purpose. They give the party no mind. Instead, they seem to... be gossiping to themselves?
>The girls notice, engraved into the ground below, a square daiz. It is mostly obscured by dirt, but you can make out the shape of a star falling from the top of a tower, upon it.
>"Hey, did you hear?"
>"No, no, I didn't."
>"The Librarian's friend is on her way?"
>"That backstabbing skank is on her way?"
>"That backstabber's skank is on her way!"
>"No way, no way. That rabbit's sense of direction is terrible! Her friend must be just as bad."
>"I don't believe she has any friends at all!"
>"Isn't she the Queen's best friend? Why else would she give her the key to the castle?"
>"Hah! No. The Queen must be pitying her. That rabbit's untrustworthy and can't even keep any appointments."
>"I hear she was so clumsy she can't even read her own books without tearing them up."
>"I heard she was so dumb she can't even speak!"
>"That's why she's under house arrest. It's the only way to keep her safe, you know? It'd be such a shame if the Queen's pet rabbit got lost, after all. What would she do without it?"
>The "townsfolk" chortle and gossip mockingly to one another as you pass through, paying no mind to the dolls.
>Tachi returns the favor, paying them no mind, instead constantly monitoring for threats. She hears but doesn't care about the undead beings around them.
>Port's ears swivel like radar dishes as they walk. "Rabbit? Key to the castle?" she mumbles absentmindedly.
>"It's irrelevant." Tachi says as she marches.
>Port 'hm's. "They sound like breadcrumbs. We're probably supposed to hear it."
>As they approach the square, they see a figure locked up and suspended in a cage. A small figure, the size of a child, in a white dress, with a pretty bow on her head.

>A sign rests between its arms, reading: 'YOUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE, TEEHEE'
>Just as Tachi finishes reading the sign, the rope suspending the cage snaps and it comes crashing toward her.
>Tachi skitters agilely out of the way as the cage crashes to the ground and rolls about. The faux Hope rolls about, its head popping off and bouncing over to the party.
>"--up. You're wrong. Even if you make me feel... like that... but even then... even if they made mistakes... You're wrong!"
>Hope's voice is emitted from the head, tinny, as if relayed through an intercom.
>Port's hands tremble in anger. If she had flesh and bone knuckles they'd be white.
>"It's just a trap." Tachi says with a flat expression. "Trying to mess with us. Ignore them. They are petty."
>She crushes the head with a stomp from her leg and carries on.
>Tachi seems dismissive, but Hope's(?) words linger in her mind, fueling the thoughts of what could be happening up in the tower.
>Port crouches down by the doll's ruined head, picking the bow out of the rubbish.
>She grimaces. "It's good bait. I'm angry."
>She grips the bow in a vice-grip. Her whole body is shaking. "I'm really angry."
>The crowd bursts into giggles. "So easy. Her little dolly's head, just like that."
>Tachi speaks without turning back to Port. "They will use that against you." She says cooly, "Bait you into mistakes. You have to ignore them or they win."

>Protoca doesn't say anything. Her knuckles are clenched tightly enough around the chains of her coffin to begin turning red.
>Tachi nods as her hands grip her weapons tightly.
>As they approach the castle, they finally come to its foot... Or, at least, a building marking the only entry in a wall spanning the perimeter around its foot.
>It is a large building, marked with a sign declaring it proudly, with much heraldry, as 'The Royal Library.'
>The crest on the sign is a star, falling from on high above a tower.
>It is marked as a library, but other than the Greek-like entry and pillars, the walls are hard, boring, and gray. The windows are all high and thin, and their frames seem almost like bars. It feels more like a prison, dressed up faintly as a Library.
>The doors are large, and equally boring. They seem to be made of steel, with a pair of push-bars on either door.
>"They probably built a façade around the entrance when they started pulling up the castle." Port jabbers to no one.
>Tachi marches up to the doors and push on the bars.
>The doors open. Beyond, is a well-lit... library, with yawningly tall book-cases. 'Guests' mill about, escorted by 'librarians.' There's even a group of children being read gibberish in the corner, by another librarian.
>Tachi holds the heavy metal doors open for the others, standing aside and scanning the room, looking for the next step
>She can see that it has two floors. A balcony surrounds the ground floor, and chandeliers hang form above to lit the library a weird, ghostly blue. A solemn classical piece plays from somewhere above.

The musical piece in question, btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0plbsWdYHs&feature=youtu.be
>Port cranes her neck as she enters the library, searching over the milling corpses as they walk about. "It's almost convincing," she muses. Her vision settles on the gaggle of children off to the side, her expression cools. "It's sad."
>A directory terminal to one side lights up.
["-I always would have liked to see a--- you know."]
["--find it, we'll make one. All---- us."]
>Like a ghost in the wind, a fragmented conversation passes through Tachi's mind.
["Yeah! With --- and everyone --- any---!"]
["It would be nice, wouldn't it?" -- ]
>The words almost slip from Tachi's lips, in spite of herself
>"It's poison." Tachi says as the memories keep rising up unbidden.
>Port looks at the terminal, then back to Tachi, and waits. When Tachi simply stands in the middle of the floor, Port moves over to the terminal herself and scans the screen.
>It reads: T-T--T-ACHI? WAHTRE YOI USO ING HERE? NO. NONKL. GKERTL AWY. ;LEAFDVE WJHEILE YIOOUI CANMN.
>Port's brow knits together. She looks up and scans the room for anything that might look like a camera. Or an observer.
>There are cameras on every bookshelf.
>They're disguised as part of the wood carvings, but Port's enhanced vision can pick out the pinhole lenses
>Port chews the inside of her cheek. "Sneaky," she mumbles as she looks back to the screen
>It reads: P-LKERAES. ITSMN IOPTJ WEOIPR IT]
>Suddenly, the lights dim and disappear and the doors slam closed, locking securely from multiple angles.

I'm moderately intoxicated so I apologize if my description of the Savant Rebellion is a little disjointed.

To the outer world the savant rebellion begin when a maid savant (the one dressed as a maid towards the end of the book) murdered the governor she was tasked with servicing. She then whipped the other local dolls into a frenzy to fight back against the oppression they were suffering under human control. This terrified the rest of the world because most nation's military forces were composed of undead by that point and a world wide savant rebellion could completely destroy mankind. Eventually the province the undead were rebelling in was nuked by an undisclosed nation. By that point nuclear weapons were already banned worldwide but everyone agreed that this was probably worth violating the ban over.

In actuality, the governor of the province was assassinated by a purpose built assassin savant, referred to as a Displacer, (the one towards the end of the book with the back tentacles) who then pinned the killing on a random maid savant.

That maid savant was originally intended to be an airport administrator and so was left with a large amount of free will to competently complete her duties. While flying into the airport the governor noticed her and requisitioned her to serve him at his estate. He then proceeded to rape and abuse her (the lewd pictures in the imgur link are her being dressed up by the governor). After the aforementioned Displacer murdered the governor and convinced the maid to take the blame, the undisclosed intelligence agency that controlled the Displacer ordered her to murder anyone who interfered in the ongoing rebellion. With the Displacer working behind the scenes, the maid stumbled her way through forming a provisional government and trying to unify the now freed savants in the province.

Once the intelligence agency had gathered sufficient data regarding what a savant rebellion looked like, they ordered the Displacer to kill the maid and evacuate the area as a nuke was going to be launched at the area within hours. The Displacer, who may or may not have been developing feelings for the maid, returned to the governer's mansion and discovered the cache of lewd photographs the governer took of the maid. Pitying the maid and feeling similarly used, the Displacer grabbed the maid and forced the two of them into the bomb shelter underneath the mansion. The story ends with the Displacer crying into the maid's chest and apologizing as they hear and earth shattering explosion and everything goes dark.

Pic related savants were the ones specifically referred to as used/designed for sexual purposes. Given that savants weren't considered human beings, exposing their genitals in advertisements was considered too obscene. Instead, their tongues were made as lewd as possible and used to market the sexual potential of the advertised savant. Savants sticking their tongues out eventually became and indicator of lewdness.

>"With Tachi, and everyone else, we can do anything!"
>The Queen chuckles, and the line cuts dead, leaving only music.
>Only Tachi hears the second voice.
>"It's been a trap." Port turns and surveys the milling dead. "But we knew that. We knew it was a trap from the start. We just need to break it." She looks back at the terminal, scanning it for anything new.
>It reads: NBONNONONONBONPNBPONBPONOPNONO BNERAJK IOUIRT GFRET ASWQEA DON T COM NE DFONMKRT COMKE
>Tachi looks ready for anything except for the sudden trembling in her limbs. "I don't like this place." She says, backing up until she bumps into one of the others, she doesn't know who but the feeling of any ally is soothing.
>"We will break through." Protoca declares, catching Tachi's should by the back and squeezing the girl's upper bicep reassuringly. "The games. The lies, and even the truth. I will Destroy Them, if I have to."

The undead can be male or female, the player characters and savants are the ones always referred to as female. I think its largely because the author likes cute girls and the contrast of lolis being forced into monstrous combat makes the suffering all the more poignant.

It's certainly one of the spicier positions, for flavor and mechanics.

I think it's fine so long as you don't go outright villainous to the point that the other dolls have to wonder why they don't kick or kill the holic out of the party (for which the meta answer is "because there's no pvp mechanics"). Otherwise it's a fun position.

I am. The left book is "The Garden of Stories", the middle is "The Dance of Distortion" and the right book is "The Great Drama". All three have had content from them translated and applied to the wiki and the PDF.

All that's really missing from these books are the scenarios. We're currently wondering if to try and translate them, or get to work translating the massive pile of Nechronica fanbooks I brought back from Comiket this year.

I had an interesting character development journey on my character with the Sorority class.

I picked Sorority because I had a certain image at character creation...but when I actually started playing, it quickly fell apart and I found it more natural to play the character as a kind of Alice cinnamon roll type who the others would protecc.

However as other story went on and more characters started to lose their marbles a bit, it forced her to step up and become strong and brave as well as kind in order to protect what she cared about.

So she ended up playing the Sorority role straight through character development. Was pretty great.

>>69235257
It's a little bit more complicated than that. Without going into detail, there's a lot of skills, effects, and rules that are sorta ambiguous if you try to apply them to things other than the three enemy types. You could certainly do it, but you'd have to make a lot of rulings first, and it probably wouldn't be fun anyway.

>However as other story went on and more characters started to lose their marbles a bit, it forced her to step up and become strong and brave as well as kind in order to protect what she cared about.
>So she ended up playing the Sorority role straight through character development. Was pretty great.

official scenarios > fanstuffs
Honestly most fledgling necromancers could use the guiding examples and ideas. Even if you're not a normalfag it's not the easiest thing to jump into undead lesbian little girl adventures.
>>

Honestly I found the scenario in the book to be very uncomfortable in the wrong ways.

If I had had more scenarios to read, and had read them instead of just quarantining that whole section of the book, I don’t think I ever would have started GMing Nechronica.

I had ideas for things to run that developed in the vast spaces thrown by the sparse details scattered around the book before getting the example scenario.

>Port reaches a hand out to tap the keyboard, her pacing is slow as she types around the huge grip of her pistol. 'We'll be leaving with you, Hope. Don't worry.'
>It reads: HIOEOIP? TJHREES NOI JHIOEPO LEFTR AMNYOER.
>'There is always hope.'
>As Port goes back and forth on the terminal, Tachi equips her flashlight and shines it over the floor in an attempt to beat back the darkness just a little.
>As she searches she stumbles onto one of the "librarians" wandering around and decapitates it with her knife.
>Tachi looks over the corpse and rifling through it's pockets even as the puppet show continues around them, looking for a hint or a key or... something helpful.
>The terminal spits out another line: TUHEJNRE CFANRT BE HIOPOE. THERJA CAN;T/. YOIUPLK BNE IUJN MDANGER IUDFJKM TRJHEWSD HJOPE.
>Tachi doesn't find a key.
>She DOES find herself standing in front of a book-shelf protected behind a weirdly gleaming barrier.
>Which doesn't hold books at all. Instead, it's a set of prosthetic arms placed on display.
>They resemble Port's a great deal, but there are subtle differences, and they seem eerily familiar.
>Curious, and wanting to keep her mind off her problems Tachi pokes he glowing barrier
>Meanwhile, Port taps 'We will be leaving with Hope' into the terminal before walking away and moving over to Tachi. Her eyes light up with interest at the set of parts on the shelf. "They have a stock of Protector parts?"
>Tachi's response is completely neutral: "Different, but they'd probably work."
>Port squints and looks closer. "Mm. you're right. The elbow connections are different and the paneling isn't quite the same. But it's really close. Too bad B3 is back with Monty. I guess we'll have to take some back for him."
>As Tachi pokes the barrier, her hand rebounds with extreme force and whips out behind her. If it hadn't been corded steel beneath false skin, it probably would have fallen out of socket.

The scenarios are fine but they give some awful advice on how to run a game and are incredibly railroady. Here's an example:

>If you look toward the rocks you can see it. A big ship, you could call it a luxurious cruise ship, entangled in seaweed idles against the rocks. As if to invite you, a single rope ladder, drooped and swollen hangs down the side of the hull. Once again, that sound echoes loudly... the fog horn. Is there something in there? You all clamber up the ladder with expectations for thepast and the future. You are all now on the deck.
>If the dolls have any questions about the ship, tell them that they cannot see any blatantly dangerous situations in particular. There are no holes in the hull. The next part of the session is going onto the deck. Do not give them the option of not going up onto the deck.

Next, it states the battle will happen in the Guest Hall, but going there only becomes an option after reading it exists.

>Tachi shakes her arm, at the force of the recoil from the barrier. "Maybe we can find a way into them."
>Port cranes her neck to look at the borders of the barrier, searching for a source or anchoring point.
>It wraps seamlessly around the book-cases. There seem to be no weak points.
>However, there is a padlock suspended strangely in place about shoulder-height with Port.
>Protoca frowns, and looks around.
>Port quirks an eyebrow as she looks at the lock. She's never seen anything like it.
>Tachi fishes out her key she got from Joy's home. "Do you think this could possibly be the key?" She asks, holding the key protectively.
>"There's more light on the second floor." Protoca observes. "Dimmer. Flickering."
>Tachi turns to Protoca curiously before finding her way up to the second floor to look for the sources of the other light, Port close behind her, ears swiveling.
>It's the shuttered windows of an office
>Vases, pedestals, and nearby book-cases have been haphazardly knocked aside, as if to block the way... or hide it from view.
>A dim orange light flickers from beyond, like... a candle?
>Port's posture tenses as she hears... something. Movement.
>A sign by the door declares: LIBRARIAN'S OFFICE RABBIT WARREN
>Port puts a hand on Tachi's abdomen and whispers "Careful. There's someone in the office." Her ears wobble as she tries to get a better read on the noise. "I think... I think they're crying? It's hard to tell."
>Tachi steps forward cautiously before quietly cracking the door to peek through the crack.
>There's a figure hunched in a chair, surrounded by cameras and a monitor. The only real source of light is the candle in front of the figure, so it's hard to see any fine details, but they seem to have rabbit ears... from which four keys dangle.
>They seem to be shaking and holding one arm with the other.
>The camera they're looking at displays Tachi peering into their office from behind.

>Tachi pushes the door open fully, and peers into the office. "Are you the Librarian?" She asks to the figure.
>The figure stops, and freezes.
>Port tries to peer through the doorway, past Tachi. "Hope? Is that you?"
>The figure shakes its head frantically, pointedly not looking at the girls.
>Port shoulders past Tachi, into the office so she can get a better look at the figure in the chair. "Hello?"
>The figure shakes its head even more frantically.
>With one hand - the other is buried under a giant sleeve - it gestures frantically for you to go away.
>Four fingers of that hand, other than the thumb, are sewn together in two pairs.
>"Is it another trap?" Tachi asks warily looking into the small room.
>The figure freezes again, and you hear another muffled sob.
>Tachi can just make out from behind, beneath the hair of their neck, that the figure is muzzled.
>Their hair is also bleach-white, rather than the same chocolate brown as Protoca's or Hope's.
>She sees no traps or devices beneath their chair, which has slid about due to their shaking and gesturing.
>Tachi enters the room slowly, carefully looking for tripwires or pitfalls.
>Port walks up to the figure in the chair, careful to keep her footfalls gentle. As she gets close enough, she reaches out to rest a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Excuse me? Can you turn around please?" Her voice is as soft as she can make it without whispering.
>The girl flinches in shock, and almost seems to whine and mewl as she sinks into her chair, before, reluctantly, spinning around.

>She has a mousey, cute face, with a ribbon-tied braid hanging over her shoulder and neatly trimmed bangs. She wears large bottle glasses - one lens is cracked, and the other has been pierced by a golden rose growing from her right eye. She has human ears, but she also has a pair of tattered, white rabbit ears with a variety of keys dangling from them.
>Perhaps to match the rabbit ears, her hair has been bleached white. Her face is muzzled, concealing her lower jaw.
>A sword has been driven through her heart.
>She gestures helplessly to one side, where there's an empty teapot next to various shattered cups.
[That sword in the heart?]
[Those glasses missing a lens?]
[This person is familiar but they just don't look right at all.]
[Recall?]
["I always wanted to see a library, you know."]
>Port crouches to bring herself eye level with the girl and runs a gentle hand through her hair. "Shh... sh.. It's okay, it's okay. We're not here to hurt you, we're just looking for our friend." As softly as she can, she moves to hook the top of her thumb on a strap of the muzzle. "Would you like me to cut this off for you?"
>The girl frantically shakes her head, slapping Port's hand away from the muzzle before it can even touch the muzzle.
>The girl makes a warding gesture with her sewn together hand, then looks around fearfully, and motions for the girls to leave, frantically.
>"Lily." Tachi says with a far away look in her eyes. "You are familiar, I know your name. You knew things, and were kind... I remember."
>Lily jolts.
>She smiles, with her eye. Sadly. Painfully.
>Then she gestures again, more strongly.
>Port backs away, hands raised in a placating gesture. "Sorry, sorry."
>She shakes her head, and throws her arm forward more forcefully.

In case anyone was wondering about the odd typing on the terminal, the DM was literally fat-fingering his keyboard with one hand to simulate Lily's fingers.

>Tachi steps forward and catches one of Lily's hands. "it's too late for that now. There can be no more running. They took someone from me. I'm back now, even if it ends me." Tachi says levely, staring into Lily's eyes.
>The girl cries. Tears are running down her face. They likely have been this entire time.
>She nods in acceptance, and reaches toward the keys on her ears----
>---a horrific screech echoes across the library. It pieces their ears. Their hearts. Their souls.
>Lily flings Tachi away with surprising force, fastballing her away as far as possible. Then Protoca. Then Port.
>---The screech repeats, and Lily shakes with it, her eyes bleeding tears as a crimson light emanates from the sword, and her body begins to twitch unnaturally. A blade of red energy shoots out of her back.
>Her spasming hand lifts up, toward the sword. It halts, twitches back toward her side, then back toward the hilt, then it thrusts away. Away. Get away...
>And then grabs the sword. She's still crying, even as her body twitches and carries her toward them, sword in hand.
>Port grimaces, a mix of pity and anger, but her guns are up before she can even hit the floor.
>A quartet of stone gargoyles descend from above, brandishing cattleprods.
>The undead milling around the library go berserk. The librarians, the guests, the children, they rush forward to claw at the girls.
~~COMBAT START!~~
>Lily dashes forward and thrusts out her hand. A burst of pure force throws Tachi back behind Port.
>Ports opens up on Lily with her pistols. She shreds Lily's dress but otherwise does no damage.
>Two gargoyles by Lily reach out with lashes of energy. The lighting arcs from the cattle prods and break Port's Lahti and Protoca's coffin.
>The guests try to claw Protoca, but miss. The children gather around Tachi, singing and mocking, and laughing, and pleading, driving more wedges into her weakened psyche.

>Protoca closes with Lily, brandishing her scissors
>Lily lashes out with her sleeve-covered arm. The fabric, previously torn up by Port's passing barrage, tears as something beneath it writhes.
>A huge crab claw meets Protoca's blade, deflecting it.
>The two of them trade blows for a moment, neither gaining or giving any ground, but Lily's ragged clothes begin to tear away as the fight progresses.
>The rest of her body is...
>... Her torso is patchwork, with pieces of visibly different skin tones and distorted musculature. Her arms are athletic and well muscled (and likely came from a male) but her torso herself is thin, almost wasting away. A pair of large metal plates (marked I and II) are bolted to her chest, over which a disc with a glowing heart is mounted. Wires run like veins from the heart into the plates.
>Her lower body is like a goat's, with a wolve's tail. The area her torso meets her legs is separated by a 'belt' of cybernetics. Her left arm has been entirely replaced with the giant, monstrous crab claw.
>Her single eye is twisted with pain and desire. Hot tears stream down her face as her body slaughters and writhes with reckless abandon.
>The legion of adults has closed in on the pair, and begin tearing at Protoca's back
>One of them manages to get in past her defenses and tears a chunk out of her side
>Lily's body, sensing weakness, moves in, but before her saber can pierce Protoca's guard her arm snaps back, twitching furiously.
>Farther back, still muddled in the press of child Legion, Tachi loses her patience.
>She lays into them with her knife, cutting them down three at a time as she swings
>Port- She NEEDS Lahti. The rifle, red hot slag in her hands, reconstitutes itself.
>A gargoyle shrieks, sending needles into the minds of each and every doll. Their minds are awash in a cold bath of despair, and then it is gone.
>KRAK!

A mistake I made; Tachi gets Remote Attack later. She'd actually found a stash of grenades in one of Monty's storage bays.
>The round is true.
>Too true.
>It smashes right through the lower portion of Lily's head, obliterating just about everything below the eyes.
>Including the muzzle.
>The flesh warps, knits together even as it expands from the force of the bullet
>Lily's body twists... grows. Convulses.
>Her mouth is a twisted ruin of needle-like teeth, her overlong tongue lolling out uselessly as she screams.
>Another gargoyles screams, continuing it's assault on the minds of the dolls.
>Lily buckles as the psychic wave passes over her, mewling even as her body lunges at Protoca again, saber singing in the wind.
>Even as Port's mind begins to fray under the duress, something clicks.
>It isn't Lily.
>It's the gargoyles.
>Her eyes pass over the cattle prods in their hands. She remembers the cameras, the jeers of the dead, of the speaker on the intercom, the cruel modifications to Lily's body.
>This isn't a library, it's a prison.
>"The gargoyles! Kill the gargoyles! They're driving her!" Port barks over the madness.
>Protoca grunts an affirmation, though it's everything she can do to keep Lily off of her.
>Tachi loses a piece of her patience that she hadn't even known existed, tearing apart almost half of the remaining children as she launches herself at the nearest pair of gargoyles and lays into them with everything she's got.
>The fight is... brutal.
>The gargoyles, beyond being simply tough, mend each other. Ostensibly with the same power that allowed them to break Port's rifle at the outset of the fight.
>The girls grind them down, one after another, even as the madness starts leaking into the edges of their psyche.
>The Legions have been ground down just as collateral.
>All through it all, Lily thrashes madly, her rabid body held back only by the screaming vestiges of her own psyche, locked away but still aware.

The big weakness of Psychedelics is that a lot of their moves are conditional, or are generally over-costed due to the fact that they can be used even when the doll is Annihilated. Bringing up their reinforcements can help, but it would probably be more fun to just run a generally lower-powered game and try and keep their powers in mind during encounter planning.

>The final gargoyle stands defiant, roaring it's spite at the girls.
>Tachi has had enough.
>Her rocket pack roars to life, catapulting her across the library floor. Her drill sings.
>She shatters the upper chest and head of the gargoyle to pieces. Without the core, the rest of it falls apart under it's own weight; the cattle prod sparks against the floor, still clutched in granite fingers.
>Lily draws back, still twitching. Shaking. She whips her head back and forth like a cornered animal as the girls move to disengage.
>Port throws Lahti to the ground with a loud clatter. She waves her hands at Lily, empty and open. "Lily! Lily! The fight is over! The garoyles are dead! We can stop now! We can stop!"
>Through unbidden tears Tachi screams "Stop! Stop! Lily!"
>Port flings a pistol, sending it skittering over the tile floor and into a bookshelf off to the side and puts her hands up. "We can stop now, it's over. You and Tachi can just... just talk."
>Lily's eyes burn with tears. Her mouth is distended and hangs wildly low, tongue lolling out, grotesquely oversized.
>Her body heaves as she takes ragged breaths, twitching spasmodically.
>Port continues. "They can't hold you anymore. They're gone! We can- we can break down the doors together! You don't have to be stuck here anymore."
>Lily nods sadly.
>Then, slowly and methodically as her quivering arms allow, she raises her sword in a salute, eyes furrowed with concentration and effort.
>Tachi sees another scene. Another memory. A tradition of the past.
["We've won!" And everyone raised their weapons.]
>And then she swings it down.
>>
>>69241000
>Her arms shake, and she seems to hesitate
>And then her muscles spasm and the blade jerks into her legs.
>The mutilated goat legs are cleaved away, and the girl wracks, holding back a sob.
>Tachi climbs down from the balcony from where she had been thrown, tears in her eyes from seeing Lily hurt herself and returns her salute with her knife. "We won! Lilly, we won! Everything will be better. We will make it better."
>Lily reverses her grip on the sword, and shears her left arm - the one converted into a claw - off.
>Port's eyes go wide. "Lily! Lily, stop! We can-" She desperately grasps at the medibag on her chest, holding it up so Lily can see the red cross emblazoned on its cover. "We can help. We can undo- undo this. We can fix your hand, and- and your legs. We can help. Please."
>A familiar wrong voice echoes of the speakers - the Queen, again, laughing.
>Lily grabs her jaw, clenches her eyes, and wrenches it off - tongue and all. Then she flings the bone into the darkness like a shuriken, and the queen's voice cuts off abruptly.
>Port watches the jaw sail through the air. "Nice shot," she says, almost deadpan despite her own welling panic.
>Lily shrugs, making a so-so gesture.
>Then the lights come back on and the Queen's voice continues where it left off, tittering: "That wasn't very nice, you know. And I treated you so well too! Built an entire building for you, even!"
>Port's jaw clenches. Her eyes are very suddenly wide. Suddenly she's lost all measure of composure. "Shut up! Shut up! You don't deserve to talk. You don't deserve to have a mouth!" She raises her second pistol, waving it wildly at the ceiling. Her grip is shaking. "I'll make you wish you were still dead, you hear me?! I'll take your eyes and make you watch as I tear down this stupid dollhouse you've made! I'll burn it all down while you're just a pair of eyes!"
>>
>>69241133
>"Go ahead!" The queen shoots back, "Please, dear, turn these ashes to dust! I'll be impressed if you succeed."
>Tachi rushes forwards pulling Lily into a desperate embrace, slightly away from the two other girls. Something felt tarnished between all of them now, but everything would be better now. They saved Lily, she could help and help Tachi remember who she was. "Everything will be okay now," she whispers, holding onto Lily.
>Lily smiles with her eyes, then braces herself against the floor with one hand.
>She takes a deep breath, producing a hissing, unnerving death rattle,
>And then she looses it
>--IHATEYOURMISSYOUEVERYTHINGABOUTYOUISPAINFORMEYOUMONSTER!--
>And the lights explode
>Along with the terminals
>And the barriers over the bookshelves
>And books are strewn from their shelves and, in general, the dolls are at the center of a nexus of gathered chaos and human suffering loosed all at once.
Then, as glass, dust, and god knows what else falls from above
>She cries.
>She cries, and cries, and cries, and no words console her for quite some time.
>Tachi says nothing, just holds on tight
>Port and Protoca give the two of them some space as they piece themselves back together. The physical damage is thankfully light this time around, even though the two of them can feel their minds slipping. The nails from the gargoyles' screams are lodged deep.
>Once Lily has calmed down and everyone has been put back into working order, the four of them fan out.
>Tachi moves to grab the arms
>Protoca retrieves a set of books that had been similarly protected for the group to look over later.
>Port carries Lily back up to her office, to a trunk stashed off in the corner. Deep gouges have been carved into its finish but the lock on the lid stands resolute.
>As gingerly as she can, Port takes a scalpel from her medibag and uses it to cut one of the keys from Lily's ear. It fits into the lock with a quiet 'click.'

>Port goes about helping Lily attach them as well as undoing what she can of the Queen's cruelty, such as removing the sutures binding Lily's fingers together and restructuring the ruin that used to be her mouth.
>Once they're done, Lily is mostly human again, though she's still short a left arm. She refuses a replacement from the Dead.
>She's still mute, even without the muzzle. Her earlier outburst has completely destroyed her vocal chords.
>But she's as fully capable as she ever could be without turning her back into a monster. And she's among friends now.

>The big weakness of Psychedelics is that a lot of their moves are conditional, or are generally over-costed due to the fact that they can be used even when the doll is Annihilated.

Frankly, never even considered that being the main reason they might have been made so poor. Which is stupid because the only time it's "paying off" is when you're annihilated, where you'd only have 6 AP (or 8 if you got limiter) to use all these overpriced abilities.

>Bringing up their reinforcements can help, but it would probably be more fun to just run a generally lower-powered game and try and keep their powers in mind during encounter planning.

As a GM, that sounds like a bad time. Combat's the best part of the system and intentionally gimping it to make situational abilities (that likely will make as much of an impact in this scenario as they would in any other) seems like it would just drain the fun for everyone else. Sure everyone can make worse builds, but that really shouldn't be where a class is "fun."

>>69246417
To be frank, I've only ever been a player so I won't pretend I'm an expert when it comes to encounter design, but in my experiences Nechronica plays way better when players don't minmax anyway. Otherwise it's too easy to break and you get pigeonholed into limited options to keep up with the one doll who took Monofilament.

And I'm not saying you need to completely gimp your combat encounters, but you should be taking your players into account when designing things. If one of your players has taken Shared Loss, then it would be kind of lame of you to just not include any nasty Horrors for them to use it on, or if they have Vortex of Destruction then it would be pretty lame if there were never any large Legions for them to blow away with it. Not every tool needs to be useful every fight, but you should at least let your players know if they're about to choose a completely dead-end option for the kind of campaign you're planning to put together.
>>
>>69249439
You know what annoys me more than Monofilament? Players that opt for the AP arms race and start off with something like 12-13 AP.
>>
>>69249561
I don't feel like that it's that weird. Even the example characters from the book tend to start off with 10+ [though the Automaton at least is still on the stock 9]. I imagine it does make the early balancing trickier if not everyone can act very often during combat though.

I do feel like some DMs tend to ask for it, though. The Valkyrie in the Port campaign started off with about 16 AP; enough to ping off two AT shots before anyone could even do anything. Lily entered the battlefield with almost 20 and even after losing all her Savant parts she still has more than anyone in the main party. The only reason we didn't eat dirt to her after the berserk phase was the fact the DM kept rolling 1s.
>>
>>69250602
I'm not saying that coming in with more than the regular 9 AP is bad, I just find it fairly boring when every player character comes in with 12+ AP. All it does is force the DM to adjust and put more AP on his enemies, which then more or less forces players that didn't go for that type of build to be reactionary with checks or wait for who knows how long until they can do an action. Alot of Tier 3 parts already have low to no costs in terms of AP, I just don't see the reasoning for having more than 1 character have an extra ordinary stockpile of AP to try and clear the board in round 1.
>>
>>69250815
Clearing the board in one or two rounds is important in the early game to prevent PC loss or TPK by madness buildup.
>>

Nechronica GM here. I just make dungeons for the dolls to explore. Map them out and toss fun shit in them. Bless the nips for trying to make a stroy-ish game but it's not as fun (to me).
>>
>>69251657
This is true, though parties of 3+ dolls help mitigate early battle madness a bit just by having enough fetters.

Though actually getting players to make conversation checks at each other ti deal with the buildup can be a real chore.

By what means are the undead animated? Is it ever explained?
>>
>>69253436
there's a species of slime mold that essentially stores information from minds and souls, and when used with a corpse = undead
>>
>>69253436
Nano-machine infused slime molds son
>>
>>69253436
It's buried in the lore section, but the animation is taken care of by some sort of artificial slime mold which passively generates/collects energy, acting as the animating force and also the actual neural framework that carries the doll's consciousness (which is why you can rebuild a doll with only a hand, because the personality isnt actually stored in the brain).

As for how the actual conciousness is pulled up, I'm not sure. The book implicates that the process can be very 'noisy' though and you don't necessarily come out of it with only one set of memories/personality traits.

so your saying pic related is a good anti-doll weapon?
>>
>>69253436
A particular strain of slime-mold was discovered in the Patagonian mountains. Somehow it was discovered that this slime-mold mixed with nano machines can replicate the neuron pathways of the human brain, except these pathways could be dispersed through the entire body. This meant a person could survive something like a beheading because their "self" was no longer located singularly in the brain. If I remember right, the slime-mold effectively replaced all biological functions of the human body and reanimated corpses into what we would consider to be "undead."
>>
>>69253588
Nah. The leftover slime mold is military grade stuff.

Though I do like the idea of entering a vault and finding dolls or savants who are ancient enough that they were built with slime-mold that does get killed by that.

“Keep that spray bottle away from me!”
>>
>>69253717
oh, so what you need then is the military grade mold killer, got it!

Conversation checks a shitty mechanic. I like the fetters changing how you feel every so often, but having to talk to characters I don't care about as much or holding chats forcefully instead of because I want to interact makes it very gamey and unfun.
>>
>>69254608
I dunno, I kind of like them. It does help an awful lot if the DM actually gives you chances and reasons to talk about things, though.
>>
>>69254608
A big part of Nechronica is scratching out an existence on the slope of madness, and drawing suport from, and offering support to, your fellow doll is a big part of not falling off the cliff at the bottom of that slope and plunging into the abyss.

Note, not all forms of support have to be positive or caring. If it gives them purpose to hang onto themselves and reason to keep unliving.
>>
>>69254436
>>
>>69254608
i gotta agree with this Anon. forced conversations because of a mechanic will never be as good as one that naturally flowed into happening. your PCs should WANT to talk to eachother, not be forced to, and if they are, many id imagine will just push it through just to get it over with, or awkwardly stumble with it due to the nature of why it is happening.

sometimes theres just nothing to talk about, even if the mechanics are screaming for you to.

conversation checks aren't always talking.
Akso unless you are shoving the dolls into a gauntlet of back to back fights its possible to get some investigating or other non combat tasking or transiting done before the convo checks happen.

Didn't that happen in Port Storytime already?
>>
>>69255377
No, that was 'Never lose Hope.' which is slightly different.
>>
>>69255377
Shit, I must have missed that. But clearly Port's GM has good taste
>>
>>69254701
>>69254974
It makes interaction very artificial. I might have amazing chemistry with another player but a very weak fetter towards them like Devoted while thinking another character is dull but having something dangerous towards them, like Protective. In a different system I'd talk more with the characters that will lead to more interesting dialogues, but if I have Protective while one of us is a short range attacker and the other is a long range one, the game is forcing me to either chat more with them or spend favor on the fetter, neither which are very fun.

Personally, I'd remove conversation checks from the game while adding more abilities that recover madness through other means, maybe even some availiable to every doll. I think the game would feel far more organic like that.
>>
>>69255634

Most GMs aren't picky and will at least let you roll on whatever fetter you feel like.

Admittedly, the issue with it is, it's a 50/50 chance to bleed some madness. If the dice hate you early game, you're fucked unless you went for other methods, which takes away from other class skills/high tier parts.
>>
So how do you handle fragments of memory as far as creating a dolls past go? Do you as the gm manufacture it based on the fragments game or do you let the players interpret it to make their past?
>>
>>69255966
You as the GM are supposed to manufacture based off of the input of your players, with the goal of placing interesting twists onto the narrative of their past to keep them engaged.

I/e: They give you guidelines, you surprise them.

How do you make a horror campaign work s large lit space with open and unobstructed sight lines?
>>
>>69256263
There is something behind you, very far away. You can tell it is watching you, and it's walking forward as you do. It's been doing this for several days, now.
>>
>>69256263

You make the threats things the players and characters aren't familiar with, and limit the senes of the threats.

That way they are never if they have successfully hidden in plain sight from the monster or not when it passes by.

Sometimes have it seem to pick up on them from a distance, so that the party has to scramble to get where they think they won't be found or can climb out of its reach before it comes in close. All the while wondering what they did to attract it, or hoping they can avoid doing whatever they did again if it seems clear what they did to attract it.

The mysterious terrible thing is always around them, but it remains mysterious and terrible and they are TRAPPED in this vast space with it. It's not a claustrophobic situation, but it is still enclosed.
>>
>>69256331
>>69256343

Ok... that’s fucking terrifying.

I’m going to have nightmares about being tracked across the tundra in the nightless summer now.

However how do I make this work in a game like Nechronica where the system is all about combat and this presupposes the players to attack big scary things instead of flee or try to hide from them?
>>
>>69256578
Give a good reason to continue moving forward instead of stop, like a time limit or some kind of consideration to supplies.
Alternatively, whenever you try to turn and follow it, it moves backward...never stopping its continual staring.
