Hey /tg/, aside from a few tables I'm waiting on, I've finished translating the entire MAHARLIKA pdf, which I did mostly on here actually, with one super generous typo anon helping me with the english

the next post contains the entire beta version of the product, which you can pick up and play. it has 8 refluffable enemy types (which you can mix and match to create more unique enemies), 16 different mecha frames, over 112 AGIMAT (modules and systems) to create your own Mecha

It contains narrative-ish rules for your Pilot, wherein your roll bonuses come from who you are, as well as from your bonds with your fellow Maharlika

Mecha gameplay is mostly tactical combat on the vein of D&D4e or Strike! RPG. sessions are split into three different phases: Trade, Fiesta, and Mission, each one with different activities you can do within them (such as strengthening your bond with a fellow Maharlika PC, a la Persona social links)

I hope you guys like the thing, and of course this is beta so all feedback would be great for the next few iterations
>>
here's the PDF itself

MAHARLIKA is a technomystic, Filipino Mythology inspired Science Fantasy centered around Mekanized Weapons or Meka, and their pilots: the eponymous Maharlika. You will play as these titular spirit-warriors, mavericks, aces, and knights that all swear loyalty to a Datu, one of the CEOs of the Megacorporations, so that you can protect the technospiritual galaxy of Arkipelago. Sometimes, you’re the archetypical noble Maharlika, sworn follower of your Datu and kneeling before their feet. Other times, you’re just an exceptionally skilled person trying to make ends meet, and ‘loyalty’ is just another word for “whatever makes the most money.” You are a free person after all. As Maharlika, you venture out into space where you will take on missions, trade, and find more work through fiestas to survive, thrive, and protect what is yours in the dangerous Starsea.

thanks friends. I don't go out a lot so I'm able to laser focus on the translation. thankfully it's only around 100 pages long. hopefully it's readable. our typo anon has been a godsend in making sure the english is readable, makes sense, and even that some of the rules are consistent.

our main art guy is currently working on the KOMSA SALAMANGKERO, and he's had this for the Katana of Probability AGIMAT

currently trying to blaze through translating the Mission Generator table since i just realized that it's a pretty important part of contextualizing and giving an idea of what kind of missions each corp gives

in the meantime, have some concept designs for the YNAGUIGUINID baluti, named after a Visayan Goddess of War
>>
Hey everybody, typo anon here, I guess I helped with editing for the English version.

I might be biased, but this is a pretty neat game. My personal favorite part is the mecha-building - all the robot bases you choose from to build off of have their own personality, such as one that can shift into artillery mode, one that goes into a sort of barbarian rage, not to mention the one that can straight up undo its last turn. Each one is listed with a bunch of parts that work with the base’s concept, so it’s really easy to make a decent robot, you just pick the stuff from your robot. However, there’s four factions, each of them has 4 or 5 bases, and each of those have maybe 7 parts. There’s a lot of options if you’re the type to go through splatbooks to make a character.
>>
>>69574076
Very cool mecha design. Kind of looks like someone took an industrial machine and weaponized it, I love that aesthetic.
>>
>>69574278
That’s actually exactly what it is, the faction that robot’s from is basically a big union of farmers and laborers, and they also use giant robots for industrial purposes.
>>
>>69575704
Excellent. Sorry I haven't given the text a proper read, yet, had kind of a busy morning.

definitely, go ahead! i'd love that. tell me how it goes.

also, if anyone runs or does anything with the pdf, tell me how it goes! feedback is crucial since this is basically an open beta, a la Lancer.

right now the layout and art are both being made

in the meantime, our artist is working on an illustration, and here are his concept sketches. basically its about a maharlika and a katalonan meeting a diwata (presumably for the chaining ritual)
>>
and ah right, before i head off to sleep, have a copy of the character sheet as well. mostly made by me on canva, so it's not really good, but it should be usable
>>
Giving this a quick bump, and with it, an (extremely basic) look into some new words for us non-Filipinos. Most are already explained in the pdf, but it’s better than bumping with nothing.

One such word is ‘lantaka’. What the heck is it, you ask? Well, it’s a type of brass shipboard cannon that ended up being used heavily on the vessels of the locals. That’s right, not only the Europeans had ‘em.
>>
>>
Bump
Keep at it, this is awesome
>>
This bump's word is "Mangkono". What is it? It's wood. That was easy.

Okay, fine. More specifically, it's a very hard wood (it's also known as ironwood, so that should give you an idea), that apparently is good to make ship parts out of. Did they use it before modern times? I dunno. A quick google search didn't find anything. What I can tell you is that it's currently endangered, so it's not quite as common as in Maharlika, where it's one of the main components of giant robots, since its natural status helps the spirit that makes the giant robot move bind to it.
>>
>>69585404
specifically mangkono is Philippine ironwood, endemic to the ph. it takes days to cut it with diamond tipped chainsaws
>>
Going to bed, but I have time for one more bump. This one will also be about a tree, specifically the Balete.

In Maharlika, a Balete is basically the equivalent to a cell tower for the lambat, a sort of space internet that works by piggybacking off the fabric of reality.

In reality, Baletes, also known as strangler figs, are a type of tree native to the Philippines. They’re called ‘stranglers’ because they start out by growing on the side of another tree for support, then gradually covering it until it dies and rots away. Since this leaves the balete with a hollow bit in the middle, they’ve acquired a reputation in folklore as the dwelling places of supernatural stuff.
>>
to keep the thread floating I'll do what typo anon has been doing:

the main religion of MAHARLIKA, the True Faith, is basically based off filipino folk catholicism, which combines god, the saints, along with fey creatures and fey god spirits, although i lean more into the folk side with the diwata being their Precolonial depiction than their modern one

the most important material in the MAHARLIKA universe, Luzbel, is a name i stole from the mythology of the Anting-Anting (magical amulets and charms): in there, written in the Karunungan ng Diyos (Wisdom of God, which is treated as the third testament), it says that there were seven powerful arkhangeles, archangels, and one of the most powerful was Luzbel (eventually renamed to Lucifer after baptism and rebellion)

i chosen Luzbel bc it comes from the farthest area from the center of the galaxy/the Land of God, alongside it being some cool rebellious name
>>
It's always cool to see a translated foreign RPG get released here. Normally, it's Japanese TRPGs that show up translated on /tg/, so a Filipino game is a new one. Thanks, maharilika and typo anons. Technomysticism is super my jam and I could always use another mech game
>>
Thanks, anon! Glad to see people interested in the game!

I love mecha but never played any tabletop. Is this a good place to start?
>>
>>69596090
In my opinion, it’s as good a place as any! The rules are more narrative when you’re playing as your mecha pilot, and more tactical when you’re in your giant robot, so you’d be getting to try out multiple aspects of tabletop and see what you like!

If you’re interested, I’d advise joining the discord server linked in >>69593559. That would be the best place to get a game going, I think. Are there any other anons interested?

essentially, yes. it did start out as a lancer setting/hack before i started writing it in Filipino and making it its own thing

here's the concept art of the KOMSA SALAMANGKERO, meka of probability and space-time manipulation. one of the AGIMAT that you can take from it is the Katana of Probability, which showcases all possible cuts and slashes in your HUD, even ones that cut yourself

fun fact: Katana was prevalent in pre-colonial filipino vocabulary due to trading with the Japanese

There are definitely some interesting issues with the formatting, like for page 75 for example.

Probability Katana starts at the bottom left of the page, but it's description and stats are finished on the right middle side of the page, right after the Gahum System and Floating Rifle trait. Nothing major, just kinda jarring for your first read. I assume cleaning up formatting is last on the list, which is fair.
>>
>>69614950
All the playable mekas (That is, the cool ones with overdrive systems) are size 1, which is about 13-18 feet.

There are enemy stats that are size 2, 20-30 feet, but those are mass-production robots.

Specific sizes go up to size 4, which is 60-90 feet tall.
>>
>>69619904
Are the bigger ones mostly construction equipment?
>>
>>69620614
The size-two ones are flavored as large siege-defense robots and artillery, though the enemy section is meant to be built off of and refluffed.

There are also what are called "giant beasts", which are are of varying, non-robot origins (Giant alien invaders or defense systems for a planet's spirits, generally) that go from size 3-5.

At size five, you don't so much take up spaces on the battlefield so much as being the battlefield, and the rules have you deal with smaller individual parts.
>>
>>69620614
>>69621958
To clarify, the "player" mekas all are a newer generation of meka, and thus have more power to play with. Specifically, they're known as NEOs, and they all require a spirit of nature to bond with the pilot and help power and run the systems. I'd compare it to the difference between Gundams and the mook units in Gundam, kinda?

Robots without that tech are easier to make, so one major use of them is in industrial applications, but a lot of the old weaponry is still around. They are still very capable in the hands of a skilled pilot, and in fact there are rules in case GMs want to send an ace at the players.
>>
>>69619904
I do plan on making larger sized baluti in the future, going up all the way to Size 3, but that's for additional baluti
>>
with the help of typo anon, i finished the very last portion of the original filipino pdf, which is the tables and mission generators

I love it when a culture's myths have concepts that can be translated to analogues in a sci-fi setting. It's such a simple yet effective way to make things feel exotic and otherworldly, even if you're not actually in a setting with magitech.
