Not to be unexpected, their Gene-seed remains surprisingly pure after millennia of degradation. Of course one can never be too sure if one's truly of Ultramarine stock considering how many they took in from the shattered legions.

But a progenitor to be proud of nonetheless. And as the most numerous one could also say they're the most varied.

Even amongst Space Marines the fervor with which we devour our enemies' minds for their information is discomforting. But it serves the purpose, for every mind, we take several new enemies of the Imperium are revealed, and the hunger sated for a moment.

We have found strong brothers in the Blood Angels and their successors due to our shared ways. There is even some belief that perhaps we share some gene-seed with them.

But we must keep distance, a son of Roboute losing himself to his hunger and a son of the Angel falling the same to his rage could have... disastrous results.

Strix

The strix is described as a large-headed bird with transfixed eyes, rapacious beak, greyish white wings,[a] and hooked claws in Ovid's Fasti.[1] This is the only thorough description of the strix in Classical literature.[2] Elsewhere, it is described as being dark-colored.[3][4][2]

The strīx (στρίξ,στριγός)[b] was a nocturnally crying creature which positioned its feet upwards and head below, according to a pre-300 BC Greek origin myth.[c][5] It is probably meant to be (and translated as) an owl,[6] but is highly suggestive of a bat which hangs upside-down.[7]

The strix in later folklore was a bird which squirted milk upon the lips of (human) infants. Pliny in his Natural History dismissed this as nonsense[d][e] and remarked it was impossible to establish what bird was meant by this.[f][8][2] The same habit, where the strix foul-smellingly lactates onto an infant's lips is mentioned by Titinius, who noted the placement of a garlic on the infant was the prescribed amulet to ward against it.[4][9][8]

In the case of Ovid's striges, they threatened to do more harm than that. They were said to disembowel an infant and feed on its blood. Ovid allows the possibilities of the striges being birds of nature, or products of magic, or transformations by witches using magical incantations.[1]
>>
>>71338940

I recall the Strix name. It was used in the thread where we made Owl Dragons. I think we should keep that image because it's cool and the symbol of owls for knowledge fits as well.

Perhaps our chapter symbol is an owl perched on a skull?

Wikipedia has a few mentioned, Empusa/Lamia, generic child eating monster lady with snake extras/powers. As well as the Strix, bird-vampires basically, with some bat features and familiars to witches.

There's also the undead spirits who couldn't communicate with the living without being strengthened by drinking blood. Perhaps we have some Flesh Tearer in us after all, seeing the dead by drinking the blood of our foes?

Drink of Daemonblood, but be not consumed by your own hunger. We drink to purge ourselves, indulgence shall only lead us to doom.

>The individual was a stalwart enemy of the servants of Chaos, and slew a Daemon Prince
Never let one doubt the strength of an Apothecary. Our brother was always in the thickest of the fray, a stalwart foe of the ruinous powers. And when the hour came that he faced a Daemon Prince, he faced it alone.

And with his MIGHT, FURY, RIGHTEOUS ANGER, AND UNQUENCHABLE HUNGER. He slew the Daemon, tearing its throat out with his hands and teeth, sending back into its hellscape home.

He feasted on the warp-born blood of a daemon, took of its foul flesh. But his rage burned brighter than any corruption.

Basically, roman food-orgy indulgence/purging with a spiritual twist.

Wanting to eat people is clearly corruption, right? So you drink some MORE corruption, then purge it all out along with your innate corruption. Bam, net loss of corruption. Sure, you need to drink deamonic blood regularly, and you're always hungry, and you're vomiting it out which is gross, but it's definitely legit, this is definitely not some Chaos-influenced ritual. Nothing is wrong with this. Drink up.

Maybe our main heraldry is Owl, but we use Bats for some internal imagery, maybe Honor Guard stuff.

It's definitely not also a metaphor for the slow change of mostly normal initiate to the final marble-like Ancient not!Vampire. Nope. There's nothing behind that door Inquisitor, just our.. blood storage. For transfusions. We get into accidents while training a lot, yup. Big secret shame, you found it Inquisitor, that's definitely our secret. Better go and write that report now! Just another slightly kooky Chapter who looks kinda funny. Just as normal as the..er.. I guess it helps we literally look like living statues of the Angels of Death we have in their shrines.
Add some Roman profiles, some Angelic hair.. we look *good*, but then vampires always look appealing at first, don't they?

Really helps get people donating when they get a glorious red-white-and-gold figure striding forth in robes or toga during a sermon to kneel at the altar too. Maybe we lend a couple brothers out now and then to the Cult. They're not brothers under arms of the Church, they're just.. guards on loan from a pious Chapter is all.

>>71339489
I put forward a motion we also have a grudge against the Night Lords. We just both kinda hate each other, not as much as our main enemy, but if given a choice between random traitors or Night Lords, we wanna punch their screechy wannabe vampires in the face.

Also it just occurred to me that the marble-skinned marines could probably suffer from light discomfort more easily like albinos. Let's make them sunlight-adverse while we're at it. Nothing debilitating, but they just.. kinda prefer not to, and thus the fortress is gloomier than most.

I feel like you're overexaggerating. Honestly, we're pretty tame compared to some BA successors, just extreme for most UM successors. Yeah, we're vampirish with a threatening name but by far not the most mutated or corrupt Loyalist chapter.

Also, Guilliman loves the BAs, he'd probably hate our Codex adherence more than anything.
>>
I'm thinking maybe the Red Thirst takes a while to kick in, so there's time to harvest new geneseed to give as a tithe before the weird shit kicks in.
Mars looks at it, sees it's fine, flash-freezes it and throws it in the archives. They've got more important shit to do than simulate an extra century of growth to see if anything weird happens.

So for the first long while in a new Strix-marine's life, they're just a fairly ordinary marine with great hair and a dormant omophagea gland.
Then when it kicks in, it kicks in HARD. There's a bonus round of initiation rituals, you drink some daemonblood, shit gets weird.. and then you're back on duty feeling thirsty. A few more decades, and you start to notice you've become a lot paler, and are on track to become another marble-skinned Elder of the Chapter.

There's probably also a greater degree of interest in "who's geneseed is implanted in who", with "Sires" and "Bloodlines" too, because.. vampires. Initiates compete to be implanted with the geneseed of a more prestigious sire while being tested.

How do Dreadnoughts work with the Chapter? I feel there's some potential with vampires and coffins, but nothing comes to mind. It's basically just stock BA.
Maybe we have some figure of note in a gifted Furioso Dreadnought for some past deed, but that's about all I've got.

A thought, we definitely have Red Thirst. Black Rage though? Maybe the Ultramarine in us is enough to cut a connection that primal.
Also helps differentiate us from stock Blood Angel successors, we're some weird halfway point between the two once-Legions.
>>
>>71339917
I can see Dreadnoughts acting akin to Gargoyles in a way. Since their armor plates could have artistic designs that make them seem more like works of art. Immortalized in spirit so that we will know the soul itself is more wondrous than the flesh that housed it.
But yeah I like the idea of them acting like gargoyles and just ambushing a party of smucks from out of nowhere.

>Recounting of the legendary meeting of Chief Apothecary Fuhror and the Khornate Daemon Prince Malfarum Illdactus.

The fires blazed around Fuhror, he knelt cradling the head of a brother whose body had been broken and had his life stolen. He had sired this initiate, he was of his stock, he held the body as gently as a father did his newborn son. Somewhere to his left, another gave out a pained death shout, met by the laughter of the Bloodletter that cut him down. Slowly the apothecary lifted his head towards the horizon of the battlefield, the fresh and safe gene-seed of his fallen son hanging limply in a secure container from his hand.

He spotted the leader of this Warband, the one who brought these Bloodletters, the one who led these berzerkers. The foul beings figure jostled, clutching his stomach in laughter as he cut down another marine of the Argent Strix. Bodies of the fallen decorated the red-skinned monstrosity's shining brass armor, impaled on its many spikes like trophies. Without even realizing it something snapped inside him, some hidden wrath and hunger awoke. "No more." Fuhor growled out.

As if possessed he lurched to a standing position, standing like a statue amidst the chaos of the battle before he set off in a sprint. The stone cracked and crumbled beneath his steps, blood from those struck low stained his ceramite greaves. All around him the Chapter and Warband fought to see the other extinct. But Fuhror's course never strayed.

From the crowd a Bloodletter jumped, coming at him from the right, up ahead, with inhumane agility. It's long red tongue lashing the air, a shout of pure anger piercing the air, claws outstretched, and sword pulled back.

It did nothing to deter the Apothecary. With barely any acknowledgment, Fuhor slammed his right fist into the head of the creature. A sickening crunch filling the air as the apothicarion drill pierced the Neverborn's skull. He never broke his stride, leaving the body behind to disperse back-

Cont.
>>
>>71340003
into the warp energies that spawned it. Never noticing that the drill had broke from the power of the blow.

He closed on the great prince. Sliding to a stop before it as it turned to regard him. It let out a low chuckle as it took in the dwarfed form of the Apothecary. "YOU seek to slay me?" It asked in an almost disbelieving tone, turning fully it revealed the limp form of another Argent Strix gripped in its claw. A surge of anger wafted off of Fuhor at the sight. The Daemon perked up with a malicious smirk as if it could taste his anger. "Ah yes, there is rage in you, I'll give you that. Perhaps to avenge a fallen brother?" It asked in a demeaning tone as it plunged its clawed hand into the chest of the fallen marine, shredding the armor, plucking out the gene-seed of the marine and shredding it beyond recovery. "You do not even have any weapons." The prince kneeled, as it spoke. "Perhaps you wish to beg for mercy instead?" It asked with a Chesire grin as it drank deeply of the Apothecary's fury, goading him further.

To the Daemon's surprise, Fuhor launched himself at the creature. Using his enhanced strength, and powerful armor. Fuhor leaped several feet into the air, landing a powerful blow against the creature. It gave a shout of alarm, standing, and backpedaling, as one of its four horns broke, flying through the air and lodging in the stone. Blood ran from the broken crest of where one of his horns at once been. "YOU INSOLENT WELP!" It shouted, shaking the air and making those nearby nearly froth with rage. No longer did it look at the Apothecary like a toy, but as a foe. "I HAVE BURNED A THOUSAND WORLDS! SLAUGHTERED MILLIONS! REDUCED MOUNTAINS TO RUBBLE!" It yelled as its own anger took control, the ground trembling slightly with each achievement called.

"I have no words for you abomination, only death." Was Fuhor's calm reply as he launched himself at his enemy once more.

Cont.
>>
>>71340137
Powerful fist narrowly missed Fuhor's running form as the Daemon attempted to strike him. Each narrowly missing but the last. The Daemonic claws of the damned monster left three large gashes across the chest of Fuhor, a small trickle of blood flowing out of each, the Khornate monstrosity's power preventing the wound from sealing.

With the small opening he had, the beast's guard down from its many blows. He lept through the air once more, clinging himself to the chest of the creature, gripping hard enough to prevent himself from sliding. The Daemon shouted in anger and rage as its skin tore beneath Fuhor's iron grip. Freeing one hand, Fuhor tore his helmet away. Curly locks of gold flowing to the wind, half his face an almost reflective white pierced by black veins, like rich marble.

His face twisted in fury he clamped on the neck of the prince, and tore and twisted with all his inhuman strength, tearing chuck after chuck from the throat of the Lord of Skull's pet. Each bite only added to his anger, making the hunger all the more unbearable and voracious. Its blood burned like liquid fire but brought a soothing reprieve from the now all-consuming need to devour. The corruption of the warp sought to turn him. But his faith and righteous wrath burned brighter, only letting it fuel him to ever greater destruction of the being before him.

Regaining its senses partially the Daemon wrapped one of its massive armored claws around Fuhor, and threw him to the ground. Clutching its throat it fell to its knees, its own blood on its tongue, flooding his warped body even as the wound regenerated. "Damn... you." It choked out in primal hate as the wound finished healing. It tried to stand, only to fall back to its knees in surprise.

It felt... weaker! With fire in its eyes, it looked to see the face of Fuhor as he stood, the Daemon's still-beating heart in its hands. Causing it to look in shock to the hole in its chest that healed much slower.

Cont.
>>
>>71340245
Fuhor took a bite from the beating heart, drinking deeply of its sanguine fluid. There was not much to be gained without the Daemon's mind. But one thing did fill Fuhor's mind, the thing that would win him this battle. "Malfarum Illdactus, I banish you."

"What!" Malfarum exclaimed in shock as he heard his true, Daemonic, name. A Daemon's name had power over them, and Malfarum was no different, even now as the words had barely left the Apothecary's lips he felt the threads of the Immaterium weave over his body like chains.

"You will plague the world of men no more, banished from the realms of humanity, forced to the farthest forgotten stars." Firey chains materialized around the prince, a circle of fire appearing around him as he began to sink into the ground.

"NO!"

"And there you shall remain until the day comes that the Argent Strix hunt you down, and destroy your soul till the end of this universe and the next." The heart healed the bite taken out of it, continuing its drum-like beating.

"NO!" Shouted Illdactus as little more than his head remained in the Materium. With his final moments, he spit a foul hex. "CURSE YOU, APOTHECARY! I CURSE YOU, YOUR SONS, YOUR BROTHERS! NEVER SHALL YOU KNOW PEACE NEVER SHALL YOU KNOW RELIE-!" Its head was submerged, spirit and body, little difference between them, banished from this world.

All around the field the battle ended. The Berzerkers, few remaining, scattered or were cut down. The Immaterium grew weak with the banishment of Khorne's prince and the Bloodletters faded, returned to their bloody lands in the warp.

Stepping towards the severed horn of the prince, brothers of the Argent Strix gathered around the hero. He pulled it from the ground, lifting it aloft his head, beating heart in his other hand, the last remnants of the Daemon, for now. A cry of victory sounded across the field.

Cont. by small epilogue.

"Brother Fuhor, please let us help you!" Asked one of the three other Apothecaries assembled around their teacher, his tone on the verge of begging. "You will die if we don't do anything."

Fuhor merely waved him away. "I've made my choice." The entire front of his body was red, coating the floor of the Thunderhawk. The wounds across his chest had not healed but instead grown in their intensity. "There is nothing more that can be done for me, and I will not die on my back, or kneeling." He said, allowing for no reproach in his tone.

"We... understand." They said looking between each other before backing away.

"Good." He whispered as he stood straight, stance wide and strong, locking his armor in place. Speaking his final words with the last of his strength he declared. "Let me die not on the ground, but standing. Defiant against the dark that sought to claim me, as my brothers and sons have gone before I did." And so he died standing, not giving the ruinous powers the satisfaction of striking him low.

Who do we get along well with? We're notably divergent genetically, so unfortunately the Black Templars don't wanna rip-and-tear with us.

Blood Angel successors probably get on well with us, at least we have similar problems and they don't need to hide the big problems from us, even if we are the stuffy half-brother.
How do Ultramarine successors think of us though? We're pretty Codex-compliant, but still the weird goth sibling amongst all the other bureaucracy-nerds.

Are we F A S T enough for White Scars? Do we give a shit about mortals enough for Salamanders and/or Wolves? Do we have a reliquary worthy of the Blood Ravens visiting? Is our dark aesthetic and moodiness enough for the Raven Guard to invite us to poetry slams?
Can't imagine the AdMech much cares either way about us, at least the Sororitas like us probably?

I realised halfway through writing it, it was basically just Grey Wardens but with extra steps, but Wardens are pretty metal anyway so making them heart-eating vampires couldn't hurt.

Quite what happens to the soul of one who undergoes the Rite of Fuhor is something the Chaplains tend to avoid. It most certainly returns to the Emperor, they're sure. Quite how it avoids complete destruction is.. a miracle, no doubt.

>Or they may be found in the Aventine spires district, preaching His name, scouting neophytes or collecting the Sanguine Tribute, a ritual bloodletting in the Emperor's name, the blood is collected and “blessed” as an offering to Him at the chapter’s morning meal and prayers.
>Certain bloodlines, companies of Astartes sired by one of the original Captain's gene seed, collect from different districts of Maximi and hold sway over factions of Patricii and Factorum owners, “gifting” chapter serfs and Voicing support of their policies in the Senate, Patricii in turn “gift” funds, weapon production facilities, artisans and exclusive rights for a Blood Cadre, a company, to exact their tithe in districts under their governorship.

I figure we're kinda on their good side, if we're both a little leery of each other. We're secretive as HELL about what exactly we do, but at the same time.. a Strix-marked Daemon is a panicky little shit if they escape the Rite, and can be put down for good with their next death. That's got to put a smile on any daemon hunter's face.
Basically "weird little half-blood shits, but they fight a good fight and now and then put a powerful daemon down for good. So.. good enough for us."
Meanwhile the Strix are happy to fight alongside other people who really hate daemons and cultists with a massive murderboner, but keep at a distance enough to hide their own secrets. From a puritanical point of view we're pretty sketch, best not let the issue come up in the first place.

They might think us a bit uptight generally but our battle fury impresses them and a primal hunger for the blood of our enemies, coupled with a risk to go berserk is something they understand intimately.
That which truly decides whether or not they will call us Brothers or just weirdos is our ability to hold our Mjold.

>Plus I mean goddamn roman vampires who become marble statues in appearance in their old age.
I get what you mean, the numbers aligned perfectly to give us a unique chapter that is both utterly polarised within itself but also whole.
I want them to be bros with the Vulka Fenrika and Astral Claws.
Mostly because just mentioning all three chapters in the same sentence will cause aneurysms in Inquisitorial heads.
Now that I think about it, if we manage to prove our battle prowess when it comes to food and drink then the Wolves would naturally flex some muscle to keep the Ordos off our backs.
>>
>>71345689
We're pretty dang pious and hate anything Chaos-related, aren't the Astral Claws y'know.. renegade?
Wolves sure, we're personable guys and we probably give at least a professional shit about mortals if not genuinely caring about them. Let's have a drink and take turns kicking xenos in the dick or lack thereof. Great fun, werewolf and vampire themed party!

>aren't the Astral Claws y'know.. renegade?
Yes but when we look at their deeds we see no betrayal of He who sits on the Throne. From that point on they are merely very divergent sons of Guilliman, have we really any right to judge them given our own peculiar habits?
In fact considering we and they are both Codex followers with massive quirks I dare we would even get along. Perhaps we "misplace" some armor and supplies every now and again through some logistical mishap that we are very sorry sorry about, should the Inquisition ask.

> Great fun, werewolf and vampire themed party!
The sagas of our drinking and fighting will reverberate through the Aett for millennia!
>>

>>
>>71344238
>Our guys are going to have a massive schizo-tism.
In a way it makes some form of sense, because if they see themselves as ticking time bombs then they're probably going to hang onto what trace of stability they're going to get.
>>
>>71348282
I hadn't thought of that and yeah it makes sense but that also means they are in massive risk of becoming unhinged with Guillimans editorial decrees.
>>
Anything interesting with the Primaris Marines, or is it basically just a model update for them?
>>
>>71348497
Sounds like Guilliman is going to have to do what his own dad could not. Be a good father.

>>71348564
I'd say there would probably a mix of opinions on them ranging from them simply thinking it's basically a way for them to do their methods more effectively, to questioning why they have to be replaced like this when they done so much for their father, to seeing this as a new challenge.
>>
My take is Argent Strix will hang back as they watch Guilliman's new rule. Just keeping quiet and trying to figure some things out.
They've clung onto the Codex, onto Piety, onto whatever keeps them true to their oaths despite the corruption they endure and cultivate for millennia. And now their Spiritual Liege has just thrown the rulebook out the window and told them to stop with the reverence already.

Of course he's right, he's the Emperor's Son, their Gene-Father.. but what now? What now is their rock, their centre to endure the whispers of the Ruinous Powers? So they follow the old rituals for the time being, pushing out the doubt that now sleeps in them.
Should they keep their course? Cast aside the Codex? Perhaps even follow the Angel's path instead, if such a thing is even possible?

They're not alone in having the wind knocked out of them by the new reforms and Edicts, but it still hits them hard. The reaction to Primaris fairly typical, but they're still emblematic of this uncertain new way.
>>
>>71348756
They have two paths to follow broadly speaking. They can do what their brothers in the Astral Claws did and embrace the book with unrestrained autism and risk a massive schism with the Imperium and their Gene-father.
Or they put their trust into their spiritual liege and follow his example, put faith in his dreams and dedicate themselves to him as he dedicates himself to the Imperium as a whole.

The first path is risky. Already there are chasms between them and the rest of the Astartes also corruption is not something they are immune to, they simply have a method of fighting it. Yet all their massive flaws mean that if they break with Guilliman like the Claws then the Inquisition will take notice, conduct and investigation and declare them full blown traitors as opposed to mere renegades.
Apart from meta reasons of not having two chapters do the same thing I believe the Strix should declare this new period of Roboutes return one of ideological self-discovery and spiritual reinvention.
IMO they would look to their close brothers for guidance like other Ultramarines, Blood Angels and maybe even the Wolves and incorporate lessons from each one.

So what happened to Malfarum's broken horn and heart? Were they discarded, sealed away? Or were they turned into weapons or chapter relics?

I could see the horn being made into some sort of weapon and the heart being used in rituals.
>>
>>71349285
Flamberge. It's the Dark Souls in me, but still. Two-handed flamberge.
Waved swords to scar and tear at flesh. But maybe the power weapons only, keep the non-officer marines with space-Gladius and space-Pilum.

Also, our Chaplains should have power claws. Because spooky nosferatu helmeted pale-armored figured ripping things apart with giant metal claws while singing faux-latin praises to the Emperor is required.
>>
>>71349347
The horn is probably used in a set of weapons that only the captains and chapter master get access to (much like how there's supposedly a piece of the Emperor's armor in every set of Terminator Armor). The heart is probably watched over by the chapter's librarians.

>>71349404
>Also, our Chaplains should have power claws. Because spooky nosferatu helmeted pale-armored figured ripping things apart with giant metal claws while singing faux-latin praises to the Emperor is required.
What if they can pick between the standard Crozius, the Power Claws like you mentioned, or the Eviscerator as a nod to their good standing with the Ecclesiarchy?
>>
>>71349347
The heart still beats, and it is by that the Chapter knows the Malfarum Illdactus still lives his own mortal life.. somewhere. Warp, Realspace, Webway.. it matters not. He has been Strix-marked, and has only one life to lose. One day, the heart will be made silent.
Until that day, it pumps daemonblood for the Argent to use in their rituals, though only enough for special ceremonies. It is a potent blood too, one not lightly drank. Astartes have fallen in the rituals before, and given the Emperor's Peace before worse could befall their body and soul.

Traditionally, Terminator honors in the Chapter incorporate the Heart, though given the scarcity of blood the unique ritual is sometimes delayed until the marine can partake, resulting in 'unblooded' Terminators.
Other ceremonies of note are the succession of Chapter Master and Captain of the First Company, and +++DATA CORRUPTION+++
>>
>>71349347
>>71349483
I can see the initiates having to drink from the heart as a final rite of initiation into their ranks.
>Drink deeply of its warp damned blood. But do not let yourself be conquered by hatred incarnate. Drink, let your fury and faith burn brighter. Burn stronger than this abomination's corruption.

inb4 that's what actually awakens the hunger not!red thirst.

Ah shit, the hybridisation actually kinda worked didn't it? Left to our own devices we suffer at worst a lesser form of Red Thirst only.
But then we figured out a way to use it to our advantage kinda, and now cultivate it to destroy daemons. Neat.

Lorewise, I think aside from the flashy blood-red energy bolts and such, they're surprisingly good at charms and glamours. More than once a squad with a Librarian has thrown off a camouflage behind extended enemy lines and started slaughtering the nearby foes.
The fact it appears that they have stepped out of some especially dark shadows with warp-energies crackling is just gravy.

>High Imperial: The peak of Imperium technological advancement outside of the greatest hive worlds and Adeptus Mechanicus worlds. Anything and everything that can be bought on the open market can be found on these worlds, and the local troops have access to the most advanced weapons, armor, and equipment.
Truly our homeworld is blessed, for it has managed to retain its technological achievements stretching back to even the crusade. Plasma weapons aren't even a rare treasure. While outside the walls of the hive are a wasteland inside the people know an advanced life not many in the Imperium know anymore.

The Underhive might even be relatively livable, more akin to warring noble houses than gang spats.

Planet Class: Hive World.
Tech Value: High Imperial.

Size (d100)
>>
Rolled 84 (1d100)

I do like the self-destruction aspect riffed from the Grey Wardens. Explains too why we aren't incredibly daemon killers just by eating hearts. You gotta do some sketchy daemonhost prep-like stuff, then defeat and rip the heart out, then eat it and exorcise it just to make it mortal.
The Rite is saved for vitally important daemons, Dark Valedictors aren't common in the records, and every one Heroes to the Chapter. Someone broke their immortal soul to kill a foe of humanity. They don't even get their rest at the end with the Emperor. That's pretty hardcore. Wouldn't be surprised if even Chapter Masters are respected after them.

>>71350394

Can probably skip a few of the later rolls, those tables go on for a while. But tech seems interesting enough to check.
Also interesting we're such a built-up Hive world despite being a wasteland. Maybe there was once something that made it more habitable, or there's something still of use here.

Moderate Arbite and Telepathica, but only a token Astronomica presence. Though for the Astronomica, that's basically Moderate for them anyway.
Probably about what you'd expect for a High Imperial world. There's call for law and order, and communications to the Imperium at large, but it's an established world that doesn't need massive oversight or people to make up for a lack of infrastructure.
Not to mention the fact there are Astartes on the world, Arbites probably aren't as needed as they are on other Hives. If things get out of control in the underhive, it's just a training exercise for the marines where the Arbites would need to stage an assault.
The Telepathica too, this is a recruiting world for us and we get first dibs on psykers if we think them suitable for life in the Chapter.

Mechanicus: Moderate.
Ministorum: Significant. Controls its field, and has a say in wider planetary matters.
Inquisition: Significant. Controls its field, and has a say in wider planetary matters.
The Mechanicus maintains a moderate presence on our homeworld, though that is not to be a shock given our advanced technology has a tendency to draw young Techpriest. The Ecclesiarchy and Inquisition, however, are the most powerful organizations on the planet, after the Administratum, when something is called for across the planet it is usually these three that do so, but the other organizations can influence events if they work together.

All in all the planet really does not lack in any field.

The planet is almost archetypal for a High Imperial world, with decent showings from all the Adepta... except the Ecclesiarchy, which makes sense, and further cements our fellowship with them and our piety.

What's somewhat concerning is the Inquisitorial presence. This isn't some inspection, this is a respectable forward base for them.
Perhaps our secrets are not as secret as first thought, and the Inquisition holds that over us. An unorthodox attack dog for the Ordo Malleus? Or does our appearance of purity still hold sway despite their watchful eyes?

If there's no water, it occurs to me Thirst is probably a part of the planet's culture anyway. And recycling moisture is seen as normal, so maybe the blood side of things can be seen as an extreme derivation of that?

>Chilly (-100°C to -41°C/-148°F to -42°F): Cold, but not uninhabitable. Sealed buildings are still a good idea, but smaller heating systems should work just fine. Going outside requires exceptionally warm clothing but this planet is still likely to be inhabited in numbers larger than a few outposts. If unprotected, you'll last a number of rounds equal to your toughness bonus, after which you gain +1 fatigue until unconscious. Death follows in one round.

With our Axal Tilt that's about -120C to -21C/-216F to -110F. I hope you packed a jacket boys, outside the Hive's its chilly.

or we could go

>>71352124
Warm (+31°C to +50°C/88°F to 122°F): Depending on moisture, this world may either be a baked desert, a steamy jungle, or even a storm-wracked archipelago. Death follows in one minute.

Personally I'd go with 'warm''.

I wondered about that, but I feel we'd see more Mechanicus presence if we had even a bit of a part of an old terraforming machine.
We're also pretty big but only 1G, so the planet is very light. Maybe there's.. some kind of trapped atmosphere? The planet vents and cycles it's atmosphere deep underground? I don't understand planetary physics, but neither does GW so I figure it cancels out.

Actually yeah it is. To get that kind of volume and size effect you just need a planet with a significantly less dense composition than earth which while unlikely is still perfectly possible. It will also mean that the planet will be super mineral poor and have fuck all magnetosphere so the solar radiation is going to be something fierce.
The breathable atmosphere with absolutely no life to produce O2 and multiple megacities to consume it, now that needs an explanation.

Okay yeah, I was joking about being on the inside of a hollow planet, but now I'll say that should be legit.
There's atmosphere because it's trapped inside. There's no worry about solar winds because that's on the outside of the planet.

The outside is cold and horrible wasteland.
The inside is warm and horrible urban sprawl.

It's just a regular hollow planet filled with roman space vampire superhumans.

At that point, the need for water imports becomes the least weird thing about the planet.

Why did the Imperium colonise it? Because it's a fucking Hollow World.

That sort of plays into the Vampire thing, too. Those members of the Chapter who are tasked with ruling the planet each have near-absolute and sole control over their own spire or section of the Hive.

Playing off of that, perhaps each member of the chapter is at least an honorary ruler of a section of the planet, holding the title of Count. The people of the hives refer to them as the White Counts.
Bit of a medical pun there for you.
>Oligarchy: On this world, a small body of wealthy people, not of noble birth or having military, religious or bureaucratic rank, rule the area. They may be merchants, artisans, or some other type of guild members, but whatever their origins or source of wealth, they keep their authority only through that wealth and the fact that they finance society from their own pockets.
Here it is not the pious or the most fierce rule. Vetus bows to those who create, the artisans and manufacturers that create the way of life this planet enjoys. From the water guilds to the factory owners to the noble sculptors.Forming an elite and tightknit council that oversees worldly affairs and where the resources flow.

The air was thick with the stench of incense. Brother Victis plunged his hands into the marble basin, heaping a wash of water onto his face.
“Bless the light... bless thine soul...”
Chapter serfs knelt about the altar, silent and unmoving.
“Give glory to the chapter...”
Another wash of water cascaded down Victis’ brow.
“Give reverence to the fallen...”
A serf slowly approached the altar, drawing his arm over the length of the basin. Victis drew his blade and made an incision running the length of the serf’s arm. The liquid of life spilled forth into the basin. It pooled and swirled amongst the purified water.

His brothers looked in disgust at the disruption of their most sacred and hidden ritual. “Clear the altar. I will see to this most rude interruption.” Victis strained through clenched teeth. He strode towards the chamber door in unrequited anger. The serfs covered the altar with a cloak of pure white and Victis’ brother’s stood statues against the honours that covered the chamber’s walls.

Victis threw open the chamber door, knocking down a servitor passing by. He sneered as he looked down upon a man. He bore the sigil of the Inquisition, and although rage flamed at the corners of his mind, he could not harm him. “Lord Victis! Bless-“ the man stammered, cut off mid sentence. “Speak plainly whelp.” Victis grunted.
“Lord Inquisitor Geldram requests your presence. Immedia-“ the man struggled to finish as Victis slammed the Gene-chamber door shut. “Brothers... continue the supplication without me. I will return the morrow and finish my own dedications. His brothers, resplendent in white robes nodded peacefully. Victis reopened the door and left, the chapter serfs filing out of the chamber behind him.

Does this Hive make orbital defense missiles? Were we told to keep making and stockpiling them? We have a huge Administratrum faction on the planet, even larger than the religious factions.
Maybe we're an Armory Planet. We just stockpile fucking tons of missiles for the Munitorum. Sometimes ships come by and resupply. Why do you want an Astartes Chapter? To make sure nobody steals the MASSIVE FLEET-DESTROYING ARSENAL there.

Using the Astartes-exclusive gravtunnels that ran throughout the central hive district Victis reached the Inquisitiorial headquarters. After half a day waiting in meditation aboard the transport, he stepped out into the mass of writhing menials within the HQ. Not one bowed or nodded as he walked through them, though they parted a square metre as to not incur his wrath. His vox bead chimed, signifying his brothers had completed their supplications.
“Ah! Sergeant Victis! This way please...” Cried a Inquisitorial seneshal. The old man was dressed in gray and black fatigues, holding a staff bearing the symbol of his office. He followed begrudgingly, heading out of the massive main plascrete corridor and into another. With each turn they made, the ostentation and ornaments covering the walls grew more cluttered and the menials less common.
“The Lord has been waiting for your presence for over half a standard Imperial day. Though he understands you must have other, pressing duties.” The seneshal stopped, drawing out a great ring of keys, some polished finely and others covered in grime and cracks. “Here we are. Mind your manners, Sergeant.” he smiled wryly.

Decided to roll up stuff for one of the moons orbiting this planet. I skipped some stuff, but it can be added later if it's necessary. You guys can decide it fits or not:

>Mining World

>Tech: Warp Space: Has seen the development of warp drives and Geller fields, and the inhabitants are capable of traveling the galaxy beyond their own system. Powerful computers are common. Cybernetics and advanced medical techniques have been developed that border on Imperial level augmentation and rejuvenants. Primitive models of more advanced weapons, like plasma and needle weapons, are rare but present.

>Adepta Presence
-Administratum: Token
-Arbites: None
-Telepathica: Small.

>Axial Tilt: Slight (1-5°) ± 5°C/41°F

>Gravity Level: Light (0.5 to 0.7 G).

>Atmosphere: Tainted: A Tainted atmosphere is even more dangerous

>Hydrosphere: Arid: This world is mostly dry, having large desert landmasses, infrequent rainfall, and a peppering of oases. There is also usually a substantial water table underground which can have wells dug into it. There will be some small seas and oceans.

>Temperature: Tepid (+51°C to +100°C/124°F to 202°F): A world on the edge. Any hotter, and any water will just boil away.

>Terrain: Plateaus, Dormant Volcanoes and Cliffs

>Population: 590.000

>Society Type: Religious (Machine God): The Church of the Machine God functions as the planet's government, and makes sure all the trains run on time

>Economy
-Exports: Minerals: Rocks from the ground that have value. Used in construction, technology, currency or decoration.
-Imports: Agriculture

I imagine the little water the is on this moon is either too tainted to purify from all the mining operations or it is left exclusively to the miners in order for them to keep on working,

I'm not OP but it looks fine so far. A mining world would make sense if we're building weapons.

Turn that shit into a sword wielded by the CM. Or have it be the drill of the Cheif Apothecary.

Actually that could be one of our minor differences while still being 'Codex-adherent' combination of roles. CM is also the Chief Apothecary.
>>
>>71353802
Chapter Master and Chief Apothecarion Cypriane Ludovico of the Blood Priests chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. Imperial Lord of the Vetus system by decree of the High Council of Terra. Scourge of Chaos, by his banishment of a Greater Daemon of Chaos and the cleansing of a daemonic incursion. Honoured as the Guardian of Vetus Sanguine by Marneus Calgar for his dedication to the preservation and protection of Imperial Munitions and Citizenry.
>>
>>71353891
Let's see how bout this.

>Chapter Master and Chief Apothecarion Cypriane Ludovico of the Argent Strix chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. Imperial Lord of the Vetus system by decree of the High Council of Terra. Scourge of Chaos, by his banishment of a Greater Daemon of Chaos and the cleansing of a daemonic incursion. Honoured as the Guardian of Vetus Sanguine by Chapter Master of the Ultramarines for his dedication to the preservation and protection of Imperial Munitions and Citizenry.

Changing it to just chapter gives a little more legroom till we really settle on a timeframe for when this CM was in power or at least till we put some between the founding.

Cause so far we seem to be.

Founded < Fuhor's battle during ??? < Current Era(likely Cypriane Ludovico as CM/CA)

I imagine for simple logistical reasons there is some kind of 'de facto Chief Apothecary' who performs much of the duties of the role, just because the Chapter Master can't be doing everything.

Not sure what the title would be though. Probably Blood Priest or similar. But traditionally the Chapter Master also holds the role of Chief Apothecary. If another Company Captain is nominated for the role, they must learn the basics of the craft.
While not a true Apothecary, any Chapter Master of the Argent Strix can operate a Narthecium and recover the gene-seeds of his brothers if called to it. Indeed, part of the title's regalia is the Narthecium of Fuhor himself, though the right to wield it is often deferred to the Blood Priest/insert better name here to ensure that it is used on the battlefield, and not merely held as trophy.
>>
Apothecarion is the name of where Apothecaries work. A Chapter Hospital, basically.
>>
>>71353935
>Not sure what the title would be though.
Let's keep it simple and stick with Chief Apothecary. To the chapter itself, Chief Apothecary and Chapter Master mean the same thing. To outsiders they might assume they are two different people.
But if we still need a fancy title then I'm down for Vitae Legate.

A strong possibility. Though the idea of one sneaking in such shiny armor has not lost it's humor on me.
Now that I think about it, the farther up the ranks you go, the shinier the armor becomes as a symbolic way of showing that you understand the weight of the Sun's (and by that we mean the God Emperor's) burden as a protector of the realm.

>>71354149
We needed a resupply of bolters after the Blood Ravens visited.
They valiantly drove back the Ork looters that had silently and mysteriously teleported into the armory, hacked the cogitator array and picked the physical locks that secure weaponry stored there, however the orks managed to teleport out again without leaving any trace or even spores.

Very mysterious, but our Chapter Master congratulated them for their heroism, and presented them with a ceremonial cyclonic torpedo warhead on their vessel, with several meltabombs attached to it in a novel fashion.

The Blood Ravens were rather anxious to leave soon after being delivered the gift, in hindsight. I'm not sure I knew of that ceremonial gift either before that day, but apparently it's one of our more obscure traditions.
