Gloria-Etalia is a kitchen sink setting which sprung up into existence when OP gave /tg/ an Empty map and people doodled things onto it. Tecnobarbarians living a nation away from a mess of small nation states. Evil Treants plotting world domination by slowly expanding their empire. An intricate war game between an ancient dragon and a troll who rules a kingdom. It is a world full of nations interacting with each other, and the people interacting in turn.

PLEASE UPLOAD YOUR SHIT TO THE WIKI

> Thread Questions
What holy sites does each religion have? What is the most popular alcohol in each pert of the world? What do 'primitive' nations do when they find archeotech or technological artifacts? (stuff like a Treant finding a fridge or, an Uzataar raider finding a chainsword)

Anyways in last thread i asked one question, but since thread ended no one had chance to answer it, here goes:
>Has anyone yet writen about interactions between real gods? Like beteen Miracle of Creation and Wild Lord, or Forge Father (if he can be considered god) and black goat? Do they even know that other gods exist?
>>
>>74847949
Since we are still on stage of posting maps, how about this one?
At the moment is more of proof of concept, but in an hour i'l be starting GMing session so no way in hell i'l be able to finish it today.
As you can see its mostly coasts, but it will be slowly filled out by hand over next few days and weeks. I think my estimate for end of the work on strictly visible map, would be end of the month.

What's that Randomass Crater at the middle? There is actually a height map for this setting already let me dig it out.

One odd thing to do will be the World sar as it's just a ~500 meter deep vertical hole. (I think it should be considered wasteland for gameplay purposes)

The shape of the continent is right though. Good job anon, can't wait to see the final result!
>>
>>74848849
The forge father ascended in an underground temple factory so I doubt he has interacted with other terrestrial deities. The wildlord doesn't sound like a deity that cares about anything outside of his forests and women. That said who knows, they could have some degree of knowledge of each other but likely they won't interact until one encroaches on the others territory.
>>
>>74849158
There is plenty of reginional maps which help fill out some details, same with climate maps religious maps etc.

I will be able to help out directly with place names assigning counties, duchies, kingdoms, empires De Jure and normal only after the 28th of September. Once you have the map "ready" for that stage I'll create the Discord Server as that's when the real work on the project can start.
>>
>>74849092
Oh that looks promising. I'm down when you want help coming up with +550 plus "barony" level names anon.
>>
>>74849452
Basicaly look of anything that is not on coast is result of wildly painting terrain by hand so it would reach coast borders, since less ardeous ways of doing it didn't seem to work for me.
I know of this height map, and i will definietly use it to extent, but it definietly always felt little clunky, for lack of better word.
It also contradicted regional map of radmir i made before this world height map was created, so i will surely use one made be me when in radmir

>2 of them exist summarized on the wiki.

Huh, I forgot that I never did summarize the third game. Nothing particularly memorable happened but if anyone is interested, then here it is.

>Be Me, DM
>Be not me, two bastard river mermaids fixing to have themselves some fun
>Set in a small Ecinevian port town
>They mess around fucking with a captian and his ship until it goes into port
>The also mess with a fisherman and harass the dockworkers
>One of the mermaids has alter self and uses it to sneak into town as a human
>Has no clothing apart from a few scraps
>Is not used to walking at all and stumbles around a lot
>These two things get her caught by a guard almost immediately
>Mermaid makes up a story about how she was ambushed on the road and everything she had on her was stolen
>Guard is mostly convinced, but think she might just be crazy so guides her to the physician to be checked up on
>There she receives a simple liten gown and is left in the patient’s room while the physician gets is tools
>Sees a window in the back and a jar full of strange objects (ye old gummy drops)
>steals the jar and smashes the window to escape
>Is now on the streets, trying to find where the sail supplies is stored so she can burn the building to the ground
>Still walks like she never used legs before (which she hasn't) and gets stopped by a dockmaster wondering what is going on
>Convinces him that she is fine and inquires about the location of ship supplies, namely sails
>The dockmaster asks why and the mermaid says to fix up her ship
>Partially fails her deception and the dockmaster narrows her eyes
>She is worried that the ship is illegally moored off of the docs to avoid paying the proper dues
>The dockmaster inquires about the location of the ship

>(1/2)
>>
>>74850210
>Mermaid deflects poorly and asks about the location of supplies again
>Dockmaster, now thinking that she wants to steal ship supplies as well, calls over a guard
>Mermaid goes to run, but doesn’t get far with her land legs
>Gets grabbed by two guards and is starts to get hauled off
>Mermaid screams her friends name
>At the docks the other mermaid hears, and quickly formulates a masterful plan to help her friend
>She propels herself onto the dock and starts screech at the top of her lungs
>This goes on for a good 30 seconds until one of the dockhands takes a running kick and her and punts her back into the water
>A distant screech can be heard as two guards drag the mermaid away
>The mermaid drops alter self to the shock of the guards and grows some spikes to get them off of her
>Succeeds and after a few tries dives back into the water
>Everybody is watching at this point and the dockmaster gives a long winded speech about how mermaids are worse than rats and how they could be productive and civilised they could enjoy the grace of Gloria-Etalia and humankind
>The mermaids ignore her and as the dockmaster stomps off the sample the candy
>The jar was taken from her but she sneaked a few away before that happened
>They try it and find it to be the most delicious thing they had ever tasted
>As everyone is going back about their business there is a groan as the mermaids pop their heads back up
>There is more of a shock when the mermaids ask for Kandee and are willing to trade for it
>It’s midmorning by this time, and a fisherman walks up to them with a bucket
>If they fill the bucket with fish he will get them candy
>The mermaids do so with a surprising speed
>The fisherman, impressed, goes away and comes back with some chocolate
>The mermaid grabs it and shoots back into the water
>The session ends with the two enjoying chocolatey goodness and the bottom of the river

>The irradiated wastes, where Lomonos slumbers and the dwarven homeland lies hidden (I'm adding Lomonos to the northern pantheon if anons are cool with it since enough dwarves migrated north to have established a stronghold)

>What is the most popular alcohol in each pert of the world?
Mead in Skrug

>What do 'primitive' nations do when they find archeotech or technological artifacts?
Kill or harm themselves accidentally. Otherwise get killed by others who want the tech, or become rich by selling it. Occasionally someone of enough skill takes a weapon and becomes something of a legend. A fridge without a power source might be used as a chest I guess?

>but it definietly always felt little clunky, for lack of better word
The original height map is very much about the summary of how things are, and not the detail. A real topographic map would be a lot more... complicated. For example, we know that the Wall of the World is a brutally high mountain range, with its tallest peaks higher than those on Earth, and some hugely deep valleys. It's less traversable than the Himalayas and inhabitants mostly have less technology for doing so than we do. The few passes are very valuable even when they're terribly awkward.

>its meta-canon
It's non-canon (this isn't California, Duality-damnit!). It can be canon in some other setting if you make one for that, but it would shit things up too much to have it here.

Look, the problem is that we're trying to make a setting with internal logic such that players can believe that their characters can have actual motivations. The suggestion comes across as the abnegation of that; it's just stuff that some kids would say for a few years to get a rise out of their parents, (There's nothing like the internet in the setting, or at least not where normal people are, so all youth cultures - where they exist at all, as this is a quasi-medieval setting - would be extremely local to large cities.

(The problem isn't the name. The problem is the associated behaviors are not ones that would let a local small-scale cult grow to the point of being considered a religion.)

It's fair. Still funny though.

>>74859402
Now i think of it, its good time tto bring up one thing that could be considered problem - those islands, and black sand ones are extremly small, and i'm not really sure if playing in those regions would be pleasurable experience.
Because of this i think best course of action would be trying to increase scale of those archipelagos, but i think its something that should be accepted, or dismised by the thread, not just me
>>
>>74859553
Isn't barony/duchy size something one can vary? Im okay with you up-scaling them by 10-20% and then just making lots of tiny tiles.

We can also spice up the Pirate Council by giving them decisions to get event troops "rally the Pirates" etc.

Well they're technically speaking a councilstate or Republic so they won't be playable at the start
>>
>>74859553
Hmm... the scale I think they should have should be ~small Kingdom.

So 2 duchies on the big island with 3 counties. Then all the smaller islands are a single duchy with 2 counties or a single country.

How I would spice them up is giving them "Raiding" as well as decisions which let them 'Rally the Pirate Armada" which gives you event troops.

Another thing one could do is "Shadow Vassals" basically have not just vassals which own land, but also Vassals which are Pirate Captains and kind of just exist raiding stuff in the water.

>>74859553
Remember that Iceland is a thing in ordinary CK2/3, a two-province island that's completely fucking worthless.
>>
>>74861200
I know, the problem is that atm half of the black sand islands are literaly too small to put an city on them. Idealy on every island there should be atleast one holding for pirate captain. Or atleast i think so.
>>
>>74861200
The problem here is that irl Iceland was a worthless shithole while in GE lore the Black Sand Islands are what controls 90% of all Westerasi Pirates and while they are not a major power they are a regional one. Or in the very least a massive annoyance.
>>
>>74861315
isn't there a thing like a barony, where you don't have a physical location, just an implied one? Maybe some pirates are baron level dudes
>>
>>74861553
You can solve that by giving pirate lords a 'raise fleet' event every once in a while, ensuring that even though their land domains are shit, they are always able to raid
>>
So I checked the Wiki and Noticed that the Zehyr Mountains literally have no Lore. So time to go for it.

The Zephyr mountains are named after Emperor Zephyr the 2nd. The Last ruler of the Empire of Drache. His father having died in the War of the necromancers left his young son as to watch over a collapsing Empire riddled by plague and hunger.

Overwhelmed by this stress sources say that the Emperor and a large portion of nobility fled somewhere west to Reestablish the Empire. For centuries the people of Komjatina and the Marshes would venture West to look for the Rebornn Empire of Drache only to be trapped at the Zephyr Mountains.

The Zephyr Mountains are not the Tallest mountain range in the World with that Honor going to the World Spine and Wall of the World, but they are the trickiest to navigate.

The mountain chain is riddled with caves, with so many caves in fact some mountains look like Swiss Cheese. Traveling over the mountains is a treacherous journey as at any time land under your feet might collapse making you fall into a cave sometimes causing massive landslides. The safest way to travel trough the mountains is thus trough the 'lower tunnels' said caves lay at the feet of mountains and thus are hard and stiff. Without a local guide never expect to find your way out though.

The Natives of the Zephyr mountains are simply called "The Cave Men" by the people of Komjatina, in spite of mostly being just Goblins of Humans. That is because unlike the GE worshiping Vampires the people of the Zephyr mountains mostly worship "The One Who Sings". The one who Sings is the personification of the great Western Wind which when blowing trough the mountains makes the Mountains "sing" as wind travels trough the caves. The Locals claim that the one who sings bestows gifts and blessings. Such believes are seen as barbaric paganism by the civilized people's of The region.

>>74863212
You need to thicken the broth and write more, also follow the standardization model
>>
>>74863212
You're not Welcome
>>
>>74863212
The Cavemen of the Zephyr mountains once used to enrich themselves by leading adventurers and diplomats trough the mountains or by transporting luxury goods from side to side.

This is not possible anymore. The Hobgoblins of the Thoughtcraft Commune to keep their land secret have forbidden the Natives from this practice and Hobgoblin Samurai roam the Mountain Ranges executing anyone who would dare bring an outsider into the Tunnels.

Still this trade continues in more remote parts of the mountains to a large extent thanks to foreign influence. The Zephyr Mountains are a place where many Exiled Vampired end up. Stripped of the Protection of Komjatinas eternal night, the Infinite Caves of Zephyr seem like the only other place where they can live and plot a return to Komjatina. Such formerly exiled Vampire lords have indeed lead many raids on Komjatina and even at times on Khanate lands.

The myth about the New Drache Empire also has not been lost, rather it has transformed. It isn ow believed that the Caves lead downwards and that eventually one of said Caves leads to the City of New Khesselina, where the old Drache Empire and all it's old Riches still survive. As such the Zephyr Mountains have become a grave to many adventurers from either side of the mountain range.

Other Caveman tribes found themselves swearing loyality to the Great Khan to gain protection from the Hobgoblins and other dangers.

Holy Quads

Major Factions within the Zephyr Mountains

> The Coalition of 10 Counts
The 10 Counts are the Major Vampire counts in the area and are a major pain to the people of Komjatina. They lack the manpower to wage open war as such they have a habit of of trying to cause populist revolts instead. Disguising themselves as genuine Vampire counts and attacking the local humans to make them think their lord broke the Peace between man and Vampire. This tactic has initially lead to many successes and count Radimir even manged to use the other 9 counts to restore his ruler over his domain, but not for long before the forces of the Grand Duchy chased them out back into the mountains. Where they still plot, wasting their eternal lives.

> The Sons of Drache
A relatively new religious sect which worships the old Drache Empire as Divine. Due to their militarist and aggressive tendencies they tend to be shunned by civilized nation and wild tribe alike. As such they found their home in the Zephys mountains, at first a place of exile it became a spot of divine duty. The Sons of Zephyr are currently the main group trying to explore the deep underground and find the New Capital.

> Clan Grega
Clan Grega is an ancient Goblin Clan which refused to cave into the demands of the Thoughtcrafters and were crushed for it, but due to their initial resistance they gained status among the Goblin and Human Clans of the region. Clan Grega is the closest to rulers the Cavemen have ever seen, though they mostly coordinate guerrilla warfare against the Samurai of the Commune as well as underground trade with the Khanate and Grand Duchy.

> Clan Ken
A Clan which was insignificant up until merely 3 years ago when Keros Klen married Kusetra Sennen. A necromancer exiled from the Necroswampers for her treacherous nature. Trough the adoption of Necromancy, Clan Klen is trying to amass power in the region and expand their land.

>>
>>74864008
Who updated the religion chart last? I wanted to ask what's up with Vesterlands and Lahaila since it doesn't really match the lore?

Also after i do this ranger stuff, I'm going to revive that arctic continent, because I liked how it looked. I don't intend on using it to "break the setting" or anything like other people said someone else intended. I plan on making the small settlements on the southeast shore outposts of Storm Islander exiles who rebelled against the theocracy. What do you guys think is up there besides them though? What horrors, abberations, or post apoc stuff? Is that piece just the tip of a larger frozen continent? Does Gloria Etalia have a a reverse-equator situation we can address way way later on?

I'm glad you asked. While religions do need to be built upon and fleshed out, we have a ton of nations that need lore, with some needing to be fleshed out entirely. Here is the list of everything that needs to be fleshed out:

So anyway does anyone know wtf is up with the religions in Vesterland/Lahaila? It doesn't match the lore and there's been no new lore written for it, and since I asked several times, I'm just gonna change the religion map unless someone speaks up about it, because otherwise it's like someone added random religions in for no reason.

We should kinda make a rule that once a thread is archived, everything no transferred to the wiki is fair game to be changed. if any anon wanna take archive and update the wiki, it's fine. But it's unfair to ask anything contributing to check a decentralized archive for keywords, we have the wiki for a reason. Wiki need to be the final say of everything, methinks.
>>
>>74866207
Maybe we should stop creating more rules?
>>
>>74866207
We already had the rule of " If it's not on the wiki it's not canon."

>>
>>74866247

It was a bit more complicated then that. There was two rival maps being produced, and the other one reflected the situation in Westrasi much better, but the anon making the "winning" map ignored a lot of good feedback so he could push the Church of Divine Duality into as many regions as possible, and eventually got his way more out of sheer persistence then out of actual agreement from other anons.

I'm personally of this opinion that the project's well and truly dying. Everyone's finished the details of the stuff that they actually enjoy and now there's nothing left to do than squabble over the details of stuff that they don't enjoy, without saving or tracking or paying attention to half of what was said previously. The only successful parts of the project are the parts based on what already exists like the maps and the stories, any attempt to add any new lore just fails miserably and contributes nothing interesting.

Whoever was planning on making a Discord, please go ahead with it and continue with the project with four or five other anons in secret. If Gloria Etalia threads are going to continue down this path of inventing new rules to restrict people and squabbling over the tiniest details of new lore, they should just die.

Thanks.
What's the deal with Lahaila though? Like what religion is that? I'll go back and look at that thread.
>>74867668
I see. I just envisioned Vesterlands looking a bit more like Sisilla religiously, considering they are very much about their ancestral ways, and Lahaila I don't even know what religion is there, but they're essentially individualist capitalists, sooo.
>>
>>74867788
Fuck you
>>
>>74867840
>Lahaila though?
I think anon in question evisoned it as way to represent their own spirituality (irc there was something about this in their lore) but never wrote anything about it.
I personaly just made them one of few secular countries in the region, because it felt more natural than creating new religion for them.
>>
>>74867937
The map shows the popular not national religion. It makes most sense for the population of secular countries to follow the most popular religion of the region.

Also yeah. If countries had no religious lore I made my own, because noone else did.
>>
>>74867539
>>74867836
I see it just doesn't make sense for CDD to be so prominent in the Mukwesk region. If you go back and read the lore, even if it's not explicitly stated, Places like Lazari would be affiliated with the Uorosian chapel if anything, because of their affiliation with Uoros. The Vesterlands are super into their ancestral kingdom. They would probably be into Wild Lord or some other vague nature shit. The Vesterlands actually had a blurb about how they basically had an individualist take on pagan beliefs, but it's not in the wiki anymore. The CotDD is even taking up the top half of Uoros? Jorivakia is explicitly multi-religious because it has members from all over , and their Jorivaki Code comes before their religion anyway.
>>74867937
I also have been thinking that they made Lahaila follow the mermaid religion, which confused me.
>>74868045
As the writer for most of the Mukwesk region, I thought I made it clear that although their were several very different nations there, they were generally made up of the sort of people that wouldn't fall in line with evangelical Gloria-Etlianism. I would think a mixture of Uorosian GE and remnants of ancient Westrasi paganism (whether it be Wild Lord or some other forest based paganism) would be the most prominent two beliefs in that region.
>>
>>74868657
Just because you wrote something, doesn't mean it belongs to you. You've got no right to dictate what these countries are like. If you don't like the religious maps, make your own. Otherwise, accept them.

Except I wrote what kind of cultures they have, and what the people there are like, and what other countries they have affiliations with, and what their religious beliefs are. >Hmm these countries don't explicitly state exactly what their religion is, so that means we can just give them to CotDD, so they can have more power.
These countries already had cultures (and many of them actually had sections detailing their religious beliefs), that weren't taken into context. It's like "Oh hey this blurb about their culture and the blurb about religion don't line up with CotDD, but it doesn't explicitly say that it ISN'T CotDD, so let's just say that it is, so we cn give our OP Deus Vult church more dominion"

I personally have come to terms with it, and have incorporated elements of it into lore that I have written, but can understand why Mukwesk anon doesn't like it because it added a bunch of stuff while he was elsewhere. >I'm personally of this opinion that the project's well and truly dying
There's so much more to be done. I remain interested in the stories that can be told about the interactions between civilizations and the landscape. The geopolitics, the economic implications, all that stuff. There's just so many interesting things that can be done.

For example:
* The midsummer heat in Celestia must be oppressive. Where does the imperial court go? Where is their summer palace? Is it up in the foothills of the mountains? Is it somewhere far up-river? How is it decorated? How is it guarded? What is it like out of season?
* There must be gates in the Great Wall at the southern end of Westrasia. What are they like? Who guards them? Who is permitted to travel through?
* What is it like on the border between Leixi-Aroxia and the Windhell? Who are the madmen that live there on the edge of civilization? Are there any GE monasteries in the area?
* What is it like in the city that acts as Morloux's entrepot for trading with the Treant Empire?
* How do the Oni of Dou Qian and the Technobarbarians of Izill interact?
* Are the cities of Pirn, Giyasdo and Tergaron open to Belaran trade, and what are they like? Has there ever been an invasion attempt? If so, what happened? If not, why not?
* What sort of a hellhole is Belara's outpost in the Cursed Wasteland like? What drew them there? Who goes there?
* Ecinev stands at the mouth of a substantial river. What's upstream?

All you have to do to think up things to do is look somewhere on the map and wonder "So what is it actually like *there*? What stories do they have?"
>>
>>74869152
Pretty much every successful /tg/ project comes down to a dozen or so anons going all out for a couple of months.

Like this anon >>74869588 said. CotDD wasn't even fluffed out until recently. Early on they were mostly associated with the Sarkation Empire, which was a deusvulting, aggressive, dragon knight empire. Now that I do go back and read it, it makes even less sense, considering it's now an anti-dirty/nature religion, and the Vesterlands are full of outlanders, who live close to nature, Lazari is a series of mountain outposts half staffed by Uorosian-descended ranger types, and Uorosians( which have their own chapel, so why would CotDD control over half of Uoros, including where the capital and therefore chapel would be) spend a bunch of their time rangering around nature. They're probably dirty as fuck. Just because I didn't explicitly state that those nations don't belong to CotDD, it doesn't mean there isn't plenty of adequate context as to see why that chapel wouldn't jive there. I know you aren't really that dense.

Anon. Stop being annoying. First of all CoDD has nothing about cleanliness on its wiki page.

Those parts of the map are now established to follow faiths as they are. It does not mean everyone is a full on zealot following the faith to the letter.

This is a group project. Just because you want X thing to be retconned does not mean it will. If you wish to add more lore work with what is there and try to make it fit. Instead of throwing another hissy fit.
>>
>>74870158

No fuck you. Also CoDD is not a Chapel. It used to be all of Westerasi GE worship untill the Chapels sprung up. That's why unless stated so nations follow CoDD. Because all Chapels in Westerasi were originally part of CoDD.

That's why it makes sense to use it as the default unless stated otherwise.

I literally only changed the half of Uoro which was for no explicable reason CotDD, and Lazari which was fromed by Urosioans and Lahailans. Tell me why Uoros wouldn't be it's own chapel, and why a nation born from Uoros wouldn't be of it's chapel?
>>
>>74870422
It was half CoDD because that's a fluff decision I made. I made most faiths not follow nation borders ideally as that's more logical than monoreligious states.

It was lore I added when making the map
>>
>>74870422
The nation which broke away from York did long before the Chapel would be born. Chapels are like protestant faiths which considering were in crossbow renessai CE should be relatively recent.

100-200 years max

>>74870375
>Kingdom of Uoros changed to Chapel of Uoros, previously about half of Uoros was CotDD for some reason
>Lazari federation: The Portion that was CotDD was changed to Uoros, because Lazari was partially born of Uoros
>Changed Vesterlands to Wild Lord, because they are outlanders, invested in the old ways of the traditional Kingdom of Lahaila
>Added a little wildlord spill over into the outlander parts of Lahaila
>Made Jorivakia have CotDD, Belara, Morloux, Wildlord, because the population is of diverse backgrounds.
>>
>>74870467
As far as I can tell, the very first mention of CoDD ever said this (on thread 6):
>But a few countries worship GE through the centralize, multinational Church of the Divine Duality

Key word: few

I really don't see why some people are insisting that CoDD is the dominant faith in as many places as possible. We still don't know much about the relation between CoDD and various Chapels. They can be highly influential without being the state religion in most of Westrasi.

>fictional fantasy religions must reflect real world religions totally and absolutely in every possible respect
Why not go the other way about it? Due to the Westrasi region being nurtured by the aliens, most Westrasi countries revere the aliens in their own way. The Church of Divine Duality could've been an effort made by the Belaran Empire (before the Sarkation Empire split off) to consolidate the disparate alien-worshiping religions and unite them under one banner, for obvious political benefits. Except it's not that simple and a lot of countries maintain distinct versions, even if they adopt the general gist of the Church of the Divine Duality, using its terminology and giving lip service to its tenets.
>>
>>74871018
Given that the Westrasi started out around Uoros, and spent a long time existing in dense temperate forests while developing and migrating, and didn't come into contact with GE until they got all the way to around where the Sarkation Empire is, they would've had a forest-centric belief system for a long time before contacting aliens. I don't know how this figures into Divine Duality, but something to consider.

>What sort of a hellhole is Belara's outpost in the Cursed Wasteland like? What drew them there? Who goes there?
The city of Odemark was founded in the early days of the Belaran Colonial Empire as a stopping point for ship repair for ships on their way to the Norvia Stronghold. As time passed, Belaran traders began offloading some of their cargo in Odemark to trade with local technobarbarian tribes. In exchange for foodstuffs and modern luxuries such as silk, technobarbarians traded away ancient relics like laser crossbows. The relics were primarily sent across the colonial empire to ensure that Belaran colonies could not be dislodged. Eventually, the Belaran Kingdom granted a monopoly on trading with technobarbarian tribes to the newly assembled BOC(Belaran Odemark Company), which quickly addicted local tribes to xuxu beans in an attempt to get better deals on artifacts. However, in recent years, the addicted tribes have become less efficient at scavenging relics, and so the BOC has become less and less profitable. Reflecting this, Odemark has begun returning to its original purpose, a ship repair station for ships being sent to the Norvia Stronghold. Life in Odemark is often harsh and short. It is populated primarily populated by Belaran soldiers on rotation.

>that's more logical than monoreligious states
Historically, there were a number of times where the monarch converting religion basically flipped the religion of the whole state, on the grounds that violent purging would be applied to anyone who disagreed. Of course, the old religion would probably continue as an underground secret thing, but the influence of top-down in pre-modern times was very large. And sometimes the borders were drawn where they are in order to follow religious boundaries.

To summarize: the religions should not ignore borders just for the sake of showing that they're not bound by borders.
>>
>>74871357
Looks good, I added it to the cursed wasteland page

>>74871018
Chapels probably got created at different times for different reasons, though in all known cases so far it seems to be a Church of England type situation where the local ruler created a new organization loyal to him rather than one that could be potentially influenced by foreign rivals. Some of them may end up being created due to religious doctrinal disputes though, where local religious leaders got fed up with CoDD leadership for whatever reason.
>>
>>74871357
>Life in Odemark is often harsh and short. It is populated primarily populated by Belaran soldiers on rotation.
Good stuff. I'd also expect that it's a good place to have a prison, especially for those prisoners too tricky to take to the mines in Norvia (eo politicals, rabble rousers, anyone likely to cause a disturbance). Escaping from Odemark is much more difficult.

I'm guessing that Belara must be fairly oppressive (at least to many non-nobles) and has hit upon pressing low-level malcontents to service in their armies and navies. So really quite a militaristic state. Which is good for painting in more detail about how they really work. I like.

>ywn have a beltagaxian islander waifu and a comfy hut by the sea

I think there's two elements that lead to formation of chapels:

Early chapels formed when gloria and etalia faith was decentralized, as a way for rulers and priests within a nation to organize religion within their borders

Then the CoDD happens/expands/reorganizes. Many chapels default to it but some remain loyal to local monarchs/nations because some local quirks don't match well with CoDD doctrines

Later chapels are what you describe. Post CoDD, some formerly loyal to CoDD countries may break off out of spat, political differences or even theological differences.
>>
>>74872509
>though in all known cases so far it seems to be a Church of England type situation where the local ruler created a new organization loyal to him rather than one that could be potentially influenced by foreign rivals
I want you to literally cite cases of this, rather than just claim it. Which nations and rulers have specifically "created a new organization loyal to him rather than one that could be potentially influenced by foreign rivals?"
>>
>>74874639
I said "seems" for a reason since detail is minimal. Vashian Chapel states they don't trust outside religions due to risk of political interference. The Kingdom of Belara actively hunts down followers of the CoDD, which they presumably only started doing after the Sarkation Empire separated from them. The founder of the Morloux was on poor terms with the Church, so it seems plausible that he would make his own organization separate from his enemies.

For the rest the exact Church-Chapel relation is poorly defined/undefined.
>>
>>74875012
I'd like to know why it "seems" that way, because it doesn't "seem" that way to me at all. Are you sure that it's not just an assumption that you're personally leaping to, considering that you're stating that "all known cases seem to be Church of England type situations?"
>>
>>74875204
"All known cases" refers to the three cases where Church-Chapel relations are outlined in enough detail to even make educated guesses as to why they were created. Like I said in my post, other Chapels may have been created for other reasons.

And yes, these are my personal interpretations, though until someone posts details on the individual wikia pages they are as good as anyone else's assumptions since none of the Chapels provide a history of why they were created.

Why do people have to be mad? Isn't there enough people screaming faces red with rage that there is no need for anyone else to join in? Oh well, such is human nature to defend what we think is right. To let go of that is to be free of a self-consuming hate, but to also distance yourself from a human experience.

I think we should try to remember that honest mistakes can easily be mistaken for malcontent. I don't think that the religion map anon was cackling with glee as he retconned nations, I think he has a lot of nations to go through as he was racing with another map anon. Mistakes will happen, especially in a region like westerasi where there are nations galore.

For you and >>74869181, I want to state that nothing was removed from the current wiki. Everything is logged and the logs show it to be true. You're probably just misremembering from your headcanon.

There is a solution to this problem. Just write up a religion blurb and ask the map anon to change it to fit the change. Or change the map yourself and post it back in the wiki. It's not too late to do that either. The map anon already changed it so you might as well.

Way I see it, they're kinda like if coffee was opium. Xuxu beans, they can be eaten right off the pod, ground and brewed, fermented into cakes, or dried and smoked in pipes. Highland Canton locals usually eat them raw for a non-addictive mood booster like coffee. When it's ground and brewed it acts like hyper-coffee, energizing workers and focusing minds at the cost of addiction. Fermented, however, brings out the hallucinogenic properties, and smoking the dried beans makes you mellow instead of hyper. Their pods could also be smoked for a similar effect, but drinking Xuxu and smoking it at the same time would lead to deleterious effects to one's liver, kidney and sanity. Suffice to say, never drink, smoke and eat fermented Xuxu in large doses at the same time.

I love how important the Xu xu Beans have become, and still don't have a wiki page.

Seems to me, they have become so important to the lore of like 10 different nations that it'd be at this point hard to pin down what they exactly are without upsetting anyone.

But to try:
> they can be used as an Equivalent to Coffee or Opium depending on how they are prepared
> They are very fragile plants only possible to be grown in the Highlands of the Beanfarmer land. (though some anon claimed it might be possible in the Wyrdlands if not for the time-fuckery)
> They are mostly used by Belara to keep Qi-Fu and their colonies subjugated

Yeah that doesn't make any sense. Coffee is a straight up stimulant while opium is a depressant.

>Your thing can be altered, but my map can't be altered, because I already made it.
I'm not here to argue with people, and I appreciate that Anon made a map in the first place, and I don't thing they purposely and maliciously did that, but I just can't tolerate that someone decided their new thing was unalterably canon, and so adamantly insisted that the pre-existing lore I had written wasn't as significant in comparison.
Funnily enough, it took me less time to alter the map than it would have to write new/change lore for those countries, and atleast 2 anons are ok with the changes

>>74879853
Well, I'm thinking that the bean itself has like 2 'layers', the fruit-meat of the bean (which is a depressant) and the actual seed (which is the stimulant). In nature, the seed leeches some of the potent stimulant to the fruit-meat, that contains diluted depressants. This causes mild stimulation when a Xuxu bean is eaten raw. When ground like coffee, only the seed gets powdered, and the potent stimulant shines. When dried, it's actually only the fruit-meat, and the stimulant loses potency in the process, leaving only the depressant effect. When fermented, the hallucinogenic effect comes from the byproduct of the yeast/fungi that fermented the beans, not the beans themselves.
>>
>>74883471
Just because you write lore for a country doesn't mean that country belongs to you, it exists for other people to rewrite however they see fit, so if they think it makes more sense for that country to follow the Divine Duality, they'll rewrite that country so it follows the Divine Duality, especially if you're not around to stop them.

I'm really not here to argue, but I just can't be idle when someone is trying to gaslight me into being a tantrum throwing asshole, when they themselves are totally unyielding about a map they made, and I'm trying to address inconsistencies. I'm cleaning up the version I made, I'm even going to have CotDD as a minority religion in places I didn't think it should be at all, because I figured if it was infact the church of the greater Westrasi Empire of old, that there would be some holdouts of it scattered around. I also don't think there would be any other religions in the Wyrdlands because non Wyrdlanders don't permanently live there? But, whatever. I just expect there not to be a double standard. Despite having contributed detail (Twin Dragon Gate is mine, as is quite a bit of the lore on the economy of Grendarrym), I don't regard my word as final at all. For example, I absolutely loved the suggestion (many threads back) of great bridges that swing or slide out at Twin Dragon Gate, and wish I'd thought of it. It's not in the Wiki... but I think it should be. That gate is meant to be intensely intimidating, and the surroundings too (with huge peaks towering around and the abyssal canyon below).

I was wrong about you deleting the Vesterlands lore. But go to the Vesterlands page and read the "History" and "Culture" blurbs for the Vesterlands, and than read about the CotDD, and tell me if you think those two things seem compatible.
Uoros actually has it's very own interpretation of Gloria Etalia, which heavily reflects their society, and the fact that they were the first Westrasi nation to separate from the greater Westrasi Empire, but for some reason, it was decided that half the country was CotDD anyway. That was lore that was indeed already written
Jorivakia specifically states that it has a very diverse population, and that the Jorivaki Code supercedes any members' religions, however even if you still wanted to show the religions, however, it would be a line of every color in Westrasi, and even a few from outside. It was founded by Belarans and Morlouxians, so those atleast would be more prominent than CotDD.
Lazari is a nation founded by Uorosians, who have their own interpretation of GE, and Lahailans, who are skeptical of the religion altogether. Do you think the CotDD would be very popular there?
I'm not trying to insult your work, I find the fact that you put the time and effort in to make it commendable. I can understand why someone might miss all these different things written in the lore. However your absolute refusal to address these inconsistencies, or even allow me to make alterations to the map, while saying I'm being possessive, is indeed hypocritical. If you aren't possessive, why can't I alter the map?
The fact that you keep clinging to the one instance where I was wrong to discredit me, and spinning my insistence, and reiteration of these inconsistencies, and my refusal to quietly accept them, into "tantrums"; is gaslighting. That's what gaslighting is.

>>74885264
> That's absolutley not true, that's exactly why I'm complaining.
It is because to make the map I went trough the pages of every nation. Then for over a thread people kept giving me corrections to the map which I then added. They also gave them complaints or ideas which then were debated.

The only debate that we had back then over the Region was me making Uoro half CoDD.
>>
>>74885377
I tend to drop a short story every thread or two, mostly busy with irl stuff now so can't contribute a fuckton.
>>
>>74885444
That's great. I love the stories, even the ones that I think cannot possibly be canon (except many of them can be provided we have inaccurate narrators, which is A-OK with me).

I wish I was better at telling stories.

Well anyone can go through the history on the wikia or the 1d4chan and see that all those things I mentioned have been there since I very first wrote that Lore. I was not here to voice my opinion when you made the map, and you've been totally unwilling to accept any criticism I've had.
Here it is from 1d4, it's the same on wikia.
>>
>>74885859
None of them contradict CoDD being present there THATS WHY I PUT IT.

Read Joravikia it does not say the most popular religion. In fact neither does the Uroka one even mention them having their own chapel. Neither does the Laxarian one. All the lore is:
> They don't care about religion
> They don't care about religion
> They don't care about religion, muh warrior culture

Why would nations which are not religious, go trough a religious schism and likely fight a war to get away from CoDD? It makes more sense for them to stay in CoDD passively. I read this stuff before and stand by interpretation of their lore.
>>
>>74885859
>>74886458
Regardless of what was stablished first, this conversation should be about 'what makes a better story'.

So I ask...What makes a better story for Jovakiria, it being a part of the CoDD who only pay it lip service, or it having fought to free itself from the CoDD yoke?
>>
>>74886458
For Joravikia and other nations in that region, they likely split from CoDD at the same time as the Belara-Morloux-Sarkation Empire schism.

Many nations in that region were part of Morloux for several centuries.
>>
>>74886850
Does it make the story better to have a bunch of special snowflake nations following special snowflake religions the story better?

Them following CoDD makes them fit better with Westerasi. It also improves CoDD lore it as it is supposed to be the Majority faith of Westerasi and it now barely controlls 50% or even less. Making them even more minor does a disservice to CoDD lore and fucks with Westerasi powerdynamics.
>>
>>74886934
Answer the question how does them splitting from CoDd make for a better story/lore rather than them remaining part of it?
>>
>>74886458
But why would the "Orthodox" branch of GE be so prominent in so many non-secular nations, with cultures, that largely wouldn't coalesce with that version of the religion? Also why would nations like this tolerate the reach of a religion that would wage a war to keep them within the fold of the faith, especially when there's 2 other empires and a mountain range inbetween them?
And why is it that you've been so totally dismissive of me since I brought it up. I mean do you think I'm the last person that's going to come up with changes to a map, and that the map you made is in it's final form, never to be altered again?
Obviously our brains interpret information pretty differently. I find you to be totally unyielding about my input on a map you made, and you find me totally uncollaborative concerning lore I wrote. I'm just going to continue working on the new things I was working on, and I won't go out of my way to purposefully contradict your map, but I'm not retconning them to fit in the CotDD where it doesn't go. You keep your map the way you want it, and if it's not 100% in line with what I make, than that's just the way it is.
>>
>>74886970
>special snowflake
Oh now we're getting to the meat of it.
You don't like that everybody's not part of the big centralized religion.
The original CoDD Lore did not state that it was the main religion of Westrasi. The next Lore after that was that it was the main religion of the Antiquity era Westrasi Empire, which split up, and as >>74886934 said it would make sense for the split to have taken place then. The CoDD being so powerful is a very recent addition to it's fluff, and Westrasi already had plenty of power-dynamics before CoDD was so powerful. They don't hinge on the CoDD
>>
>>74887084
First of all read the CoDD lore. Nothing in it says it's the most conservative branch. The only other CoDD faith with a description is the Belaran one and it seems more strict.

> And why is it that you've been so totally dismissive of me since I brought it up.

Because you brought it up in an awfully dickish way. As if I deliberately changed your lore out of malice and because I dislike the changes that you proposed.

> I mean do you think I'm the last person that's going to come up with changes to a map.

This part of the lore is done, same as no one is changing the Political map anymore. We had 2 threads ironing out all the details. It's called the "Final Religious Map" for a reason. The Faiths as described in it have been refferenced in a decent amount of writefaggotry and other lore by now.

> Obviously our brains interpret information pretty differently. I find you to be totally unyielding about my input on a map you made, and you find me totally uncollaborative concerning lore I wrote. I am fine with that. CoDD is like the Catholic Church it has a lot of internal variation. Also like any religion people don't follow every tenant 100% or very zealously. Heck some nations may just pay lip service to the Church to be left alone. (like irl Swiss Catholic Priests marrying)
>>
>>74887272
Less than half the Nations are part of said religion. There is random pagan holdouts. There is 101 GE heresies and other things and that makes the region feel way less cohesive than it should be in many ways.

Yes I dislike that because it's pretty bad lore in my opinion and if I could I would make it so max 25% of Westerasi nations would have their own non-CoDD faith, but I don't go around retconing established lore so it can fit my tastes.

You two are diverging from the story perspective. Put forward points of why X or Y provides better quest hooks, story/plot points, how it makes the world feel more immersive or intriguing etc. Don't use words such as 'snowflake' and 'last thread'. Focus instead on in-world reasons and cultural reasons for either breaking or staying within the CoDD community.

I remember there was some neat Beastmen lore in Midland. They were cool like this tiny 20-30cm race.

I think I want to write some writefaggotry with them. Any ideas? I don't want to set it in Midland itself as I'm not that up to date with their lore.

Maybe a beastman Explorer's Journey to somewhere? Maybe as a pilgrimage to the world Scar?

One thing I've noticed is that some people, or even just someone, is absolutely dedicated to seeing the Church of Divine Duality as a perfect parallel of Catholicism.

The Chapels HAVE TO BE heretical Protestant-style off-shoots of the main Church, all of them.
The Church HAS TO be dogmatic and exploit its authority for political power.
The Church HAS TO BE the overhwelmingly dominant and central religious power of the region.

I've noticed lots of leaping to assumptions based off of nothing other than the belief that the Church of the Divine Duality HAS TO BE almost identical to the Catholic Church in form and function, down to the tiniest detail. It's almost as though an agenda's being pushed.

Hello, mapanon here, i just dropped by to ask what rivers around westrasi sea should be navigable by boats (and for those that don't play ck2/3 - rivers that could be used in large scale warfare by armies, like during wiking raids), i would have to know now since they are different part of heightmap than nonavigable rivers, so its more of sculpting problem.
Thanks in advance for any help
>>
>>74888100
Sounds cool I'll try that.
>>
>>74888188
I feel like the Wyrdlands river should be navigable. Rest I can't say.
>>
>>74888188
Just from looking at the map of the Westrasi Sea, the only ones that look to be large enough for that to me seem to be the Wyrdlands river and the Rzeka River, but others might be large enough.
>>
>>74888143
I doubt there is a conspiracy. I think people just use it as a closest analogy and go "It's like the catholic church except in the parts of the lore that say not." Like the whole tattoo and boil everything things. The lore on every single religion is rather sparce, so for now we can only really work with analogies.
(partly why I propose we make a CK3 style chart for every religion it will help us get some lore on each faith as well)

>>74888143
If we look at the map it has very few rivers at least compared to what a world this size would have. Thus I would make most rivers navigable as they are the major ones and would add some of your own to represent the more minor ones. Rivers being navigable is a game mechanic not a lore question so I feel like you can do what you want here.

(also dunno if that even matters considering CK3 does not have any ship/navy mechanics)

I'd say these are the big, important rivers. None of the others have any lore around them.
>>
>>74888442
>>74888188
I would say the river running through Araxia as well. Or any big river that can be seen on the world map. That would be a very interesting way to wage war. Although ck3 got rid of the naval combat so it might be really frustrating to play against.

If river raiding gets really unbalanced those rivers can be made into unpassable terrain.

The agenda is that a certain anon finds Westrasi boring and is using CoDD as a backdoor to make sweeping changes in order to make it more interesting.

I appreciate the work he has done bringing CoDD to life, but the argument over the map is starting to get pretty annoying, particularly since the map isn't very useful if it doesn't reflect what is in the articles.

>>74888667

Orthodox doesn't mean most conservative, it means that it conforms to the established or original doctrine, or the "standard" way of doing the thing, and I don't see most people in Mukwesk abiding by anything under the
> WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED DIRTY OR BAD?
section of the religion.
I only became dickish when you hit me with
>My map is final
bit, which I thought was a bit condescending, and I just don't think what's done is done until we have a finalized PDF.
Any branches of CotDD south would indeed be pretty different than those in and around the Sarkation Empire
>>74887484
From a story perspective
>Ancient Westrasians began their civilization around Uoros, and would've expanded all the way upwards, around the greybacks, through Belara, and too around the Sarkation Empire before they encountered GE. They probably would've established some forest-based faith within this time period. GE would have indeed taken off in the Westrasian Empire after this, but mostly in the civilized places. Far-flung outlands would've retained their pagan faith. (Vesterlands and Lahaila were a kingdom that had split away before this)
>Then Uoros split away from the Empire
>Then Morloux split from Belara
>Then Morloux became a Republic and lost control of some of it's Westrasian colonies
At this point all of the subsequent nations in Mukwesk either come from being former Morloux colonies, or from Uorosian interests, so they're pretty far removed from the original Empire and therefore CotDD.
Other story reasons I have are
>CotDD's non-nature stuff doesn't jive with the lifestyles of many of the people in this region, especially the Vesterlands
>Most of these nations would not care to pay a church lip service, especially not the one that's a Military Junta
Places like the Vesterlands would maybe be a blend of Wildlord/or whatever pagan ancient Westrasi faith, and GE, I can see that, that was actually represented in Lazari, which I was happy with, except Lazari comes from Uoros.
>>
>>74890125
Infact the only way I can see CotDD existing so prominently in Mukwesk is if Uoros brought it with them when they split, and it spread from there. It isn't actually super opposed to Uorosian sensibilities, but even then their own branch would probably drop the "Don't do dirty nature shit", because their idea of progress is more centered on acquiring knowledge. So wouldn't that make them a heresy?
>>
>>74887316
>than it should be in many ways
historyfag here, thats not how human civs work anon. Since most of the region is not! europe and religion in europe has been in constant flux and reformations it doesn't make sense for one overriding religion to maintain a stranglehold. Even catholocism met with a number of lesser schisms.
