The whole point of cyberpunk is that the whole idea of modification and cybernetic improvement is cursed by our capitalist world, the modifications themselves can be the coolest shit but there's no way to uncouple the two things unless you're talking about a post-capitalist world.

Talking about actual issues through your world building and gaming is way cooler than just SHINY METAL ARMS WITH SUPER NINJA BLADES IS COOL.

>It checks your DRM and subscriptions to the corporations to keep your cybernetics working. Failing to pay results in the system locking up.
This is so unrealistic, as any bug or corporation could hold anyone hostage.
CEOs use the same products as consumers you know.

What's more likely is that failure to pay subscription fees lowers your social and/or financial credit score which if not maintained will screw over hopes of fulfilling in the future, kind of like credit scores function right now.
It will be insidious because it will be entirely reasonable. Low social credit score? Guess you're not getting that job because you've shown you lack a sense of responsibility. Want to move out of your cramped micro apartment? Not enough credit, renters don't trust you.
Want too show off to a date by going to a high end restaurant? Denied entry, credit score too low.
Sex bot went into inactive mode because you didn't pay your fees. Limited internet access too.

It's not going to be "obey or die", it will be similar to how it is now where you'll fall in line because the quality of life hit won't be worth it, and there's no righteous indignation to fuel a rebellion or revolution.

Post-cyberpunk, at its most basic, is the idea that the megacorporations aren't unstoppable and no matter how much power they may seem to have acquired, there's something they didn't think of and/or some new technological breakthrough which is going to bring them down. Probably extremely violently. AH.com's Bargain FTL. Hyperdrive is anonymously invented and the design specifications posted on the internet in a whole plot reference to Ftl, Y'All! and The Getaway Special. Needless to say, lots of megacorporations and other miscellaneous authoritarians tried to establish privatized space colonies where an economic monopoly of company scrip and company stores controlled everything and reduced the population to debt slaves. Turns out, the George Pullman business model is dependent on its intended victims not having relativistic superweapons and the capability to plausibly escape justice after using them on corporate HQ by vanishing into unexplored space to establish their own colonies with countermeasures to the standard oligarchical bag of tricks* hardcoded into their founding documents, enough knowledge of recent history to maintain doomsday RKKV arsenals to avoid getting the Gaddafi treatment and enough untapped natural resources compared to earth that even if they go crazy with tariffs, they'll still have the trading advantage.

* No ownership of debt above X quantity by foreigners, currency backed on local asteroidical ore mining or some other hard value, never offshore essential production capabilities, total debt forgiveness for all new citizens leaving earth, etc.

I'll believe it when I see it. Men with elite skills will get by with unprincipled exceptions or as consultants to clean up after the diversity hires, and the Chinese don't really need more mid tier men.

The Chinese are also smart enough not to invite thousands of foreigners into their homeland to form an enclave.
>>

>The Chinese are also smart enough not to invite thousands of foreigners into their homeland to form an enclave.
Best case scenario, they'll solve this with intermarriage to force assimilation and prevent the formation of an outgroup. Like they already do.

The Chinese are 100x more racist than a British 1895 colonialist. There's no fucking intermarriage there that amounts to any more than 0.00000001% of the population. China is more ethnically pure than Nazi Germany ever was and it genocide of minorities is getting stronger.

The Chinese Social Credit system is less oppressive than the woke mob endeavors by American tech and finance corporations. In China, you just have to not criticize the CCP or do obvious antisocial behavior like committing fraud, selling gutter oil, or letting your dogs crap all over the sidewalk. Meanwhile, woke social credit demands that you actively celebrate whatever new insane thing that Twitter bluechecks invented this week, otherwise you can get fired or have your credit cards shut down. I’d much rather post pro-Xi propaganda than have to proclaim how oppressive I am for being a white guy or acknowledge obvious dudes as being dainty women.

>Sex bot went into inactive mode because you didn't pay your fees.

Jesus, imagine. Actually getting a DRM'd sexbot then complaining when you didn't go and get the one that isn't Internet connected or requires a subscription and has an exploitive EULA clause. Instead of putting your meager capital to good use to get you ahead.

You played yourself, really.

There will be plenty of room for righteous indignation. The "purebody's" will lobby to outlaw employer augmented enhancements or retaliation for non-enhancement. Shadier employers will inevitably structure incentives in ways that don't technically fit the letter of the prohibited action, but have the same essential characteristic. They'll get away with it, and find competitive advantage until everyone else catches on enough to start raising a stink, it'll be an endemic practice by that point. So there'll be some limp-wristed loophole ridden legislation passed.

Honestly, it's all just so damn tiring.
