Aye. I don't like it either. He's a bit to memed.

We got a giant Primarch on a Prison World embroiled in a Chaos uprising.

The wardens enslave him and use him as a tool of war untill Nurgle curses him with an incurable plague as he swears eternal vengeance against the Demon Prince who infected him.

He is extremely isolated as a primarch due to having to keep his disease contained and carries the shame of having been defeated and enslaved by mere mortals.

This could be a great primarch if we went past the meme.

Things are looking tough for the Imperium at the moment, yeah. But that just means the loyalists can shine that much brighter, perhaps.

#17 seems a tad lackluster compared to some of the ohters, but the fact that he's the only ascetic primarch in a group otherwise profuse with hedonists in a galaxy plagued by Slaanesh is very noteworthy. Makes sense why he'd be nihilistic as the 18th found, every one of his brothers has defiled his principles and he sees them as too weak to do what needed to be done or master themselves. Because of the Purge being part of his background in a xenophilic civilization, I imagine him being coldly loyal to the Imperium and the Imperium alone. He's focused on the supremacy of man, above all, and could not care less whether the Emperor is ruler or not, though it's not only that, he expects the same ascetic lifestyle from his followers and demands it in his astartes. He lost his left eye and can see into the future, and what he's seen in every discernable timeline is nothing short of unspeakable. The 17th primarch does what he can and struggles in what he genuinely believes and has confirmed to himself to be an absolutely futile, doomed and damned crusade on the teeming xenos hordes because he can't imagine doing anything else. He might not be that unique compared to his brothers, but he is stubborn and he holds to his principles.

>primarch dwells in the jungular wilderness away from the mining cities of the planet, receiving visions of the decadence indulged in by the serpentine alien overseers and their willing human coconspirators, servants in all but name
>their opulence is shared with the starving masses in strategically timed festivals: fountains of wine, streets lined in silver, and banquet tables heaped high keep them too desperate to prove themselves worthy of more and to rise in the ranks to think of rebelling
>finally growing sick of existing in isolation when he had the power to enact change, he rallies a mob of disaffected serfs unemployed when their mine was depleted rebel against their false equality, annihilating a quarry-city's elite garrison and putting its snakeskin filled marble orgy-temple to the torch
>he spreads a message of human dominance, urging the people to overthrow their generous hidden masters and abandon the pursuit of temporary pleasure to build an eternal foundation of strength and will
>uses an enormous power-drill mounted on a weighted pole like it's a lightweight lance to pierce the chitinous hides of the snake's ancient warrior-caste, a tradition he kept when he went off-world
>unlike most of his brothers, the planet's population did not support him and opposed his genocidal efforts at every turn, but he saw what awaited a mere century in the future if nothing changed and violently forced them, man, woman, and child alike to heel under what grew into a sprawling monastic war-cult
>>
>>77408354
Rereading after I've written this, it comes off as somewhat edgy for the sake of edgy or some sort of anti-coomer power fantasy, which is to a degree all well and good given the 40k context, but I like the idea that the 17th is undeniably loyal and morally unambiguous, with the moral unambiguity being that he's a right bastard who doesn't care about the common man whatsoever, outside of forcing them into a societal structure designed around ensuring material deprivation for the sake of their souls. There's no higher ideology or noble ambition guiding him, he's not a craftsman or a scholar, he's not insane or traumatized by his background, he's a soldier and sees the temptations of the flesh as a more urgent battlefield than the physical warfare. Consequently he reasons the best way to handle them is to cut their supply lines, ergo, removing not only temptation but the context for what temptation promises, hence the slow speed of his conquests.

For mortals I feel like he’d just be a Commissar. Looks like they’re enjoying the bloodshed? BLAM. Having relationship with an officer? BLAM. Pitying the xenos? BLAM.

For his astartes, I think he’d try to kill the battle-brother culture they have. He wants them to know they’re tools of the Imperium. Nothing more, nothing less. They shouldn’t be attached to each other or hold pride of what they are.

The Emperor never really seemed to me like the kind of person who would give in to despair. I feel like this utterly defective Primarch Project might inspire him to fight all the harder with what functional sons he DOES have, and maybe even be forced to trust his remaining Primarchs more than OTL.

If he's only got a couple kids remaining, maybe he doesn't keep Magnus out of the loop, or fuck over Lorgar, or let Perturabo fester, you know? He *has* to learn to be a dad before everything turns to ash.

Hell, maybe he doesn't get entombed as quickly, or maybe not even at all. We're brewing a very strong Chaos so far, whose influence may end up being so great that the balancing narrative of a comatose Emps isn't even necessary, given that Ragnarok is looming in M31 or whatever.

The primarchs were a multi-century project that took every bit of his focus and the Great Crusade was raging. He would've but he didn't have any choice.

It was mostly the Soul Stuff that went into the creation of the Primarchs

He could possibly just recycle Primarchs if he wanted but that would take a lot of time and effort/resources
>>
>>77413557
IIRC, Emps couldn't make more Primarchs because the resources he used to make them weren't replenishable (and possibly also involved carving off chunks of his own soul, which he of course only has so much of to spare). There was Old Terran archaeotech involved for sure, and also an unknown quantity of time invested which he might not be able to spare again during the Crusade.

Legend say of ten and ten stars in sky, many moons ago. Stars spin around greatest light of all. Great galaxy fill with war, fill with slaughter, fill with madness and death. But there was rage in the heavens then, for none bowed their heads to the eldest and greatest.

Low in the sky came the Blood Star, the 21st Angel, the Vengeful Spirit, intruding on the cosmic dance. He who came from nothing, was raised from nothing, would return all to nothing.

Vast armies he raised from the mortal flesh of Man, endless tides to conquer and kill in his master's name. Unified in purpose as no other host could be, they swept the cosmos in endless carnage.

The great ones fell, in the end. The mighty ones, the powerful ones, the ones bloated with power from the divine. They never imagined their doom could reach them. But the 21st? He was doom itself, he had nothing to lose. And so he could not be overthrown in the same way. Only deflected, never defeated.

And so the Red River flows to this day.

(Of course, this assumes we don't roll any for Khorne, haha)

One thing we must not forget is that a Primarch knowing of Chaos from the very beginning puts a potentially major kink in Big E's known preference for secrecy in that regard.

>>

Yeah, I missed that he was the 19th found. Although in OTL, wouldn't that mean there were still a couple decades before the Heresy kicked off?

Not that I give too many shits mind you, the Exorcists are one of the coolest Chapters in 40k. And as powerful as Chaos seems to be shaping up, a Legion of anti-Daemon specialists might not be powerwanking as it would normally be accused of, but *necessary* for the Imperium to survive at all in this timeline.

In particular, the Primarch being found very late might also mean that Big E's been getting the bad vibes in the back of his mind for a little while, maybe even prepping such a Legion beforehand. He's not 100% sure what's coming, but the air has the smell of a storm, so to speak. And then the Primarch arrives and takes it to the next level?
>>
>>77416862
>>77416889
I'd say Soul Crushers if the name is given early in the Crusade (crushing the spirits of xenos), Hellbreakers if the Legion isn't named until later, when Chaos is more known to the Imperium.
>>
>>77416900
Remember that Caudillo Arturo didn't go full daemon prince until after he fled into the Eye of Terror, so he could've emerged far later once he consolidated his forces or stopped "stage-setting" with human heretics across the Imperium
>>
>>77416900
That could be where the New/Old divide in the Legion is coming from

The Primarch was already well versed in Anti-Chaos stuff and is putting it on his Legion
>>
>>77416925
>Soul Crushers pre-heresy
>Hellbreakers post-heresy
>>
>>77416961
Seems reasonable, yeah.
>>
>>77416976
I'm down. Legions changing names every so often to reflect the changing nature of their existence always seemed kinda kino to me. Like how nation-states evolve with time. You don't want to do it too much, but it adds spice in small doses.
>>
>>77416802
Well he landed on a Chaos Corrupted world, I feel like Big E tried to keep it under wraps hence the bad blood. Probably told him that everything about his homeworld, purged it and dragged him to his legion. He might not know exactly what Chaos is better encountering other demons he can make the connection its similar to what was on his homeworld which causes him to be disgusted by it.
>>
>>77417027
Maybe the only reason he wasn't corrupted by chaos was that as much as he loved his father, he was skeptical of faith and his scholarly struggle was trying to rationalize the existence of the immaterial when he didn't have any technological context for it
>>
