So my GM talked my group into trying his "really cool homebrew system". We didn't want to, but he said if we just tried it for 5 sessions, snacks and beer would be on him. So we agreed.

Holy shit man, I think he might be more autistic than he let on. First session, he brought this massive sack of dice, like half of them were 0 indexed. Another thing he brought was a massive fucking binder with all the mechanics. I caught a glimpse of the insides, he had pages of graphs and formulas and diagrams. And I saw a few anatomy illustrations in there. Then he laid out a huge map on the table, with very tiny cells, and informed us that the map is in metric, "to make the calculations easier".
I knew then that shit was about to get weird.
I rolled his equivalent of an archer class, the other two guys were a fighter and a mage. No joke we had to roll for 16 different attributes per character. Then we were handed our starting equipment, and each item had like 10 stats each.
So the first time we meet an enemy, and I shoot an arrow at him. He makes me roll a d100, so far so good. He measures my character's distance to the enemy with a tape. Writes something. Then he hands me a sheet with fucking angular size and ballistic arc formulas. "Uh, plug your attributes and weapon stats, and you should see if you hit". It takes me 15 minutes, but I do it. To my dismay, I hit, and braced for the next set of formulas. But he said he hasn't figured out how to convert force of impact to damage, so I do maximum damage because I'm just a few feet away.
The poor warrior got it worse, though. He was asked to state the angle at which he swings his sword, then the GM handed him a 20x10 grid with an outline of a human on it, and he had to solve something called a "line rasterization algorithm", apparently to see which bodyparts he hit. The mage was lucky, we ran out of time before he could do anything.

What the fuck kind of autism is this? We have 4 more sessions of this utter insanity.

I refuse to play in a homebrew system. If a gm even mentions it I get up and leave (or alt f4 for online games mostly)
most homebrew fags have entered the hobby in last 2-3 years and know nothing but deeandeee. They think they have this hot hit hip shit but it is always a mess for they have no experience in game design, playtesting et cetera.

your's seem to be drenched too much in wargaming, maybe hex and counter variant too, given the charts.

He's either beyond human, or just highly retarded... Probably both.
>>
>>80635570
Fake and gay. Anything close to this in real life is just frustration because the seemingly complex system is just an untested skeleton with missing organs and muscles that have to be invented ad hoc as the players find them.
I do not believe your gms homebrew was this complete.
>>

at that point just learn to code and make it a game. the fact that OP's DM likes crunching these numbers and subjecting his players to it is what makes it so magical

I’ll be honest, as someone who literally designs fuel rods and reactor chambers for a living, the idea of having a system based heavily on statistical modeling of events intrigues and disgusts me. There’s a real point in engineering and design where prototyping becomes more cost effective than computer modeling. I’d hit that point real fast and just go buy a real crossbow and shoot him with it to determine damage. Fast, easy and, accounts for far more variables than he ever could with this kind of design. It also has the added benefit of meaning you can also role play the emotional component of death very easily.

Seriously though (and I’m frighteningly serious about the above) if he wants to go with something like this the players should never see any of it, he should have to do it all himself to make the decision. IRL if you shoot someone (I spent eight months in the artillery regiment and idk if I ever shot someone but I was shooting when someone we were shooting at got hit) you’re not planning all of these things, even if you’re as autistic as I am, you’re just fucking shooting at them.

The whole rasterization stuff seems redundant as well as you don’t have to have a grid system when you’re working with real things, you can just say “I aim for this spot at this angle” then apply your skill based distribution patterns to that and draw a line.we don’t exist in a pixel format so why would you even have that.

If you want I can do a post for you on how to deconstruct the lack of proper logic he is applying to create this pseudo-statistical bullshit.

Tl;dr ignoring the impracticalities of this being a tabletop system he thinks he’s a lot smarter than he is and it annoys me.

Also, I want to see after combat effects based on large scale studies done on the effects of wounds, infection and, injury.

You may be able to get him to stop by just taking his shit one step further than he does and point out the failings in his models.
>>

>>
>>80637494
There are literal logical failings that are provable. Though I do understand that just because something is fact doesn’t mean someone will believe it. Even if he doesn’t accept it if he’s that autistic it’s possible you can do some serious damage by making him doubt himself that much.

Being capable of doubting yourself and your knowledge is actually a great skill to learn (I don’t mean destroying your self esteem and assuming you’re always wrong) but being open to the idea that you can be wrong is huge and what really separates the genius from the autistic grog. (At least in my opinion).

• Tarot cards for encounters/events: Randomness without the need for rolling dices on charts. They can also be used for NPC's personalities. Pretty usefull.
• Like in dwarf fortress, he could account for the PC's values among many human values. How much they value law, martial prowess, creativity, etc.
• A social interaction system that works according to these values and charisma. Use a simple equation to add/substract with contextual modifiers and any other social skill needed. I define talking as a way of exchanging human values, so putting a numerical value to those (Like in df) can make conversations run in simple equations.

That sounds cool. I once tried (didn't get very far) to define a personality system for an RPG (vidya) like that - i had a system for likes/hobbies, dislikes, virtues, etc. but I stopped when I started going insane thinking about how to represent relations between people as values of respect-disrespect and friendship-enemyship. It would be really fun to slap together as many retarded complicated mechanics together and make one game out of it though.

The original idea for me was you would be a prince trying to fuck the hottest procedurally-generated princess and forming alliances with other princes to compete against your rivals, duelling over high value girls, wooing them etc. Until you got the best one (best being a function of her families prestige, facial beauty, bust size, bust perkiness... etc) Maybe one day I will team up with a hentai artist and make it a thing for real

Each line represents the probability of all possible outcomes given a particular set of dice. For example, the black line is just a single dice, so the probability distribution is a flat line because all possible outcomes are equally probable. The orange line is two dice added together, and so middle values are more probable than high and low extremes. The real issues with this figure are that a ttrpg should not use so many different combinations of dice unless it's a dice pool system, and also what the fuck is a d24?

Seems fake, “the GM deciding[…]” and the writing style doesn’t seem to fit with your previous description of the guy, especially if he hands you packages of graphs one time and then writes switching between first and second person. Poor word choice and copy-pasted tables (and most heinous of all to the autist - default fonts and heading styles) don’t seem to fit with the disconnected person you portrayed earlier. It feels like someone who is worried about rasterizing to grids to determine damage wouldn’t say things like “as one is not commonly circulated we’ll just do this instead”a d100/2 would have given a better range of values and d100 would offer the ability to jump higher at the cost of distance. And who doesn’t include jump height as an important factor? What about landing on sections below the PC? Your shit is full of more holes than an inner city school cafeteria.

Kudos on writing up something to make your shit seem more real though. I fully support TG taking this project on.

As they’re both motion though, they happen to have the same basic formula, in fact the velocity of a projectile in two dimensions for a transit between two specific points is defined by a single set of vector equations, that is to say, they account for both horizontal and vertical components.

My point being someone who as gone to the lengths that it was suggested they did would (should would be more fitting to allow for the prospect that I could be wrong) have researched that.

How would you separate the intention to jump forwards vs upwards with a single roll, though? They should be separate rolls targeting separate angles. Also, you could add a coin toss to see if your roll is above or below 45 degrees.
Better idea. Extend the degree range to full 180 degrees, 135 being a critical failure, making you jump backwards. But that could be abused by someone with very low skill turning around before a roll.

I dunno, from the OP I thought it was believable, but now I'm a lot more skeptical.
How could somebody be so utterly worthless as to give their prospective players bell-curves than actual rules.
>>
>>80641305
You pick a way you want to do something then have it change based on a distribution modified by your skills. You’re not creating a single dice roll that creates and judges a single random jump, you’re tying to create a system that creates a realistic variation in intention vs act. If you say “I’d like to jump” someone’s going to ask “where” people irl who suffer a critical failure equivalent while jumping don’t magically fly backwards at the exact speed they intended to, they fucking break an ankle or fall face first and scorpion on the ground.

Failures (even critical failures, need to still be within the realm of probability. If you roll a 1on a d20 to stab a monster the result shouldn’t be you pulling two dill pickles out of your pockets and shoving them into your eye sockets.

I think I diverted into a dressing another post as well.

What I was trying to get at is that 95% of the information about the jump has nothing to do with the dice roll, the doe just serves as a randomizer for the variation that would occurs in real life. Therefore, you could model “I want to jump and dunk this basketball” and “I want to jump over this pit” using the exact same set of information and physical characteristics
>>
>>80641600
OK, how would you bias the distribution from 45 to 90, without having separate checks for vertical and horizontal jumps?

The biggest challenge is, as you said, pointing out the effects of all your math without cluttering the screen to oblivion and back.
Just to give you an example, am trying to somehow explain to the player that his qi-channeled kick damaged altered the flow of qi in his enemy's meridians using dissipation spread algorithms. Just mapping this shit alone is a pain, but also allowing the player the options to target or assess the state of meridian paths and acupuncture maps without turning the screen into an excel sheet is a massive challenge.

Still extremely fun.

Yeah I see this over and over and over, and ALMOST every time it's the same shit; they're actually just making some D&D homebrew but without understanding anything. They usually just add shit, usually feat lists, and equipment and spells. Zero critical thinking.
The other thing I've seen, and at least this was novel stupidity was this guy theorycrafting an alternate resolution system where:
>PCs roll to see if they can determine the intent of each enemy, but only 1 enemy at a time
>The PC actions are written down by the players on papers by the PCs
>the GM writes the enemy actions down on a note each too
>all the papers and enemy actions too are put into a hat/bag/container
>the GM pulls them out randomly, and that determines the sequence of events
>the GM then figures out what actually happens from this sequence.
He'd only really played D&D of course, and hated waiting for others to take their turns.

this is what videogames would be like if ancient or medieval people had a fully modern understanding of physics. Only they'd have teams of scribes to do the calculations.

Aces and Eights used a transparent crosshair, d20, and a deck of playing cards to show scatter in a western setting.

The bigger problem was that women were allowed to be housewives or whores RAW.

There is no game system. There is no autistic GM. OP is just blathering with a bunch of charts and graphs. Notice they're all lifted from different websites. This is all an elaborate shitpost

You can find this pic on google images, OP is just LARPing. Rasterization makes no sense in this context, even if you wanted to draw a line on the diagram you would just draw the line.

Having this much information player facing is a mistake, but distribution and granularity IS important to game design. Your friend is on the right track but needs to consider what the players have to do at the table.

Tell him to print tables of results, not have you do the math while playing. That will help speed up turns if he wants to keep the autism this high.

Agreed. As an autistic DM the idea of using reference pictures scavenged online disgusts me. Even using map resources like Inkarnate make me sad, but as I have no artistic talent, I'd rather pay than use some academic graphs posted online.

Did your GM ever got laid in life ? This much lack of awareness about what humans enjoy, this much passion for modelling "things" with non empirical rules but formulas instead.
