What is the origin of humanity in your setting?
>>
>>82716476
First God made Man from the dust of the ground. Man was cool and God was happy with him, but Man was lonely. He looked around and saw that all of the other animals would couple with each other, and he longed to do the same.

After some failed attempts to couple with animals, Man cried out to God that he wished for a partner to couple with. So God reached down and made Woman from filth and refuse, and Man was pleased. He laid her down on the ground and attempted to couple with her, but Woman cried out. "Why should you be on top?" But Man was horny and in no mood to explain, and so he continued. Woman said the secret name of God and floated away.

Man was a little disappointed and blueballed, and asked God to try again. God decided to create Woman piece by piece, so as to make sure that she would be to Man's liking. While God worked, Man looked over His shoulder and saw God assembling Woman out of chunks of meat and fat and clumps of hair. Man ran off and vomited at the sight. God eventually returned, with Woman being the most beautiful thing in all of Creation, and yet Man was displeased. No matter how beautiful she was, he could not help but think how awful was the process of her assembly.

And so Woman was sent away, and God tried again. God realized that while Man was horny and dumb, he was still smart enough to know that people look gross on the inside. And so God told Man to look behind him and behold His latest effort at creating Woman. And lo, when Man turned his head God thwacked him in the skull with a wooden board, knocking him out cold. While he was out, God took out one of Adam's ribs and made Woman out of it. Being made from Man, she was not nearly as smart as the first try nor as hot as the second, but when he awoke Man was happy all the same.

It's pretty wild. One day I got high as absolute balls while watching a documentary about apes and I was like "LOL THEY KINDA LOOK LIKE PEOPLE" so I decided that in my world humans are just apes that gradually got smarter and lost a bunch of hair and got better at walking.

A recent thread posited the idea that ogres are "dire humans," and I really like that idea. Maybe humans are degenerated ogres, "domesticated" into their current forms, but occasionally an ogre is born as an atavistic expression of humanity's potential?

The presence of certain ojects after the creation of physical existence help spur the creation of life and the rapid evolution of life forms that were near them.

In the case of Humans, one such object would cause the primal ancestors of Humanity to rapidly change until they became what could be considered Gods and Demi-Gods later in history and would form the first civilizations before a Calamity destroyed everything forcing Humanity into a post apocalyptic dark age until a several thousand year period knowns as the Thousand Kings Era

I wrote up a creation myth for this.

Who is he who does not cower? Who is he who does not flee? Who is he who does not falter? Let all know of his deeds and words, of his valor and action, of his strength and wisdom!

He whose gallop crosses the world-circle!
He whose strength shakes the earth!
He whose hand grasps the sky-fire!

Be still and listen well of the father of fathers, of Amanus, who remains the origin for all works of man, who remains the source of all kingdoms and capitals, who reigns as man among men!

Before Amanus was only the grand and wild wood, and the pack of striding apes roamed with the beasts of the earth and fled from the monsters of below, and were made weak from hunger and strife. The beast Malamindaj stalked them in the nights and preyed upon them and they were made entertainment.

There came a time when the twilight of the earth was disrupted and a great and awesome flame fell towards the earth, and all of the animals and monsters of the earth did flee from it.

But one of the pack did not flee from the fire and only courage filled his breast as he strode towards it. The Fire rose up as he approached and he grappled with it until it was made tame, and he took the fire for himself. The Fire twisted around the heart of the Beast Who Did Not Flee and bound his beastly nature in chains of burning light.

With this Fire The Beast Who Did Not Flee could see the world as it was and all was made clear to him, but when he returned to the pack the beasts of the earth did flee from him and along with the beasts went half of the pack of striding apes. With the fire he bound the beast-souls of they, and they were made to see as he did and they looked at the beasts that fled from them and were made mournful.

Then The Beast Who Did Not Flee spoke up, saying "I am he who grasped the fire of the skies, and you are those that I have enkindled.

>>82716755
The whole of the world recoils from our fire and rejects us utterly, let us make for ourselves a world separate from the world and there only we will be masters." and the burning apes rejoiced and named him Amanus, and themselves Men and Women, and the world away from the world they named the Kingdom.

With the fire they slew monsters that sought to make playthings of them, and tamed beasts that were suited to their Kingdom, and burnt back the wild and twisting woods into plains and open air.

They armed themselves with the bones and hides of monsters, and carried with them bundles of burning wood and made feasts around great fires places. The halls and chambers of the Kingdom were adorned with trophies of monsters innumerable, and presentations of such delighted fellow men and made good love-offerings to women.

And song after song was sung out and the praises of those that slay monsters were carved into long-bones, and instruments of drum and horn and flute were made and mastered by song-scholars, and such melodies were echoed out by all those within the Kingdom till only such sounds filled the air.

And borne to them were many children, and men and women were made numerous within the kingdom, and three generations were borne within that place. But the beast-souls of men and women were lesser to the fire of Amanus, and with every act their fires burnt up their bodies until their fires excised from their bodies and roamed the earth. In this manner they were spirits of fire, and their bodies became ravenous and hateful monsters and had to be burnt up once the spirit could remain no longer.

During the times when the Terrible Lizards roamed the earth, Hell grew to fear the power they would possess if they continued to grow bigger and larger, so using infernal sorcery they brought a space-faring life form close enough to the planet that its tail of freezing gases plunged the world into an ice age, crippling the dominance of the Terrible Lizards.

While most of the Terrible Lizards sickened or diminished and many new creatures crawled from the dirt through spontaneous generation and replaced them, one lineage was far too prideful and resentful to go extinct or dwindle, the Tyrannical Kings. Noting the resilience of these new, furred sort of creatures which seemed to dominate the world, it sought to emulate them and over the generations shed its scales and tail, and interbred with the furred kinds when it did not devour them to gain their traits.

Eventually, it became a new creature entirely, and would later come to dominate the world through its unprecedented brutality and intelligence. At the same time, its connections to the furred creatures which had been devised by Hell in its image to replace the Terrible Lizards made them vulnerable to sin, which is why men require gods.

Ancient Egypt. No, really. The setting tends to bump up against other realities, during which times the locals go raiding for cool new toys. Humans were created by elves using the imprisoned god of knowledge. They did this because the god of trickery lured them into a deal that would cause 99% of elf births be evil shadow demons instead of elves. In order to quickly fill out the lower classes the elves made humans, perfectly adaptable for every possible role until the curse could be lifted. Then the humans led a revolt and elven society collapsed.
>>
>>82716476
The mother goddess observed the creation of the elves, as the toys two goddesses brought to life by their father’s magic; and the dwarves, created when the forge god accidentally impregnated the earth with his own blood; and she wanted to create little mortals of her own. She crafted humans from clay, attempting to make them in the image of the elves, but failing to imitate them perfectly. Humans therefore lacked the apparent physical perfection of the elves, appearing more squat and hairy, and cursed with short life, but she loved her creations as much as any other.

This is the commonly accepted human origin myth among most people.
>>
>>82716476
An ancient alien species wanted to spread life so they put out a bunch of seeds made of a super complex bio engineered single cells organism that only activated when coming into contact with certain things like water and such.
One of the seeds got infected by a space virus causing a mutation allowing people to have magic. All life can use magic it's just that humans are so violent and blood thirsty they used it for war not peace and science.
When that seed activated on the planet the story takes place on it created all the life.
Then evolution made humans.

No one knows.
My setting's backstory is an awful patchwork of contradicting and conflicting folktales, stories and myths so that I don't have to confirm a single thing, it's simply what the people of the world believe. Libraries burn down, records are destroyed, worn down, decay or are vandalized. Context and allegory become lost to the ages and the past becomes mythologized. History is written and re-written by the victors. Stories mutate from oral telephone.
>>
Scholars speculate that humans, trolls and ogres have simliar origins.
Various religions indeed claim that humans were once brutish half-beasts, not unlike the apes of the south. But the reason they became man is disputed. Some religions say a goddess of wisdom had mercy on them. Others say a trickster god created them as enemies of the elves. Most faiths claim the first humans were created by their main deity from dust or blood.

A very unpopular new theory claims that humans are the offspring between elves and dwarves. This is mostly disregarded by all three races.

The God of creation made them, because he loved to create.

In the beggining he was close to his children, but over time the relationship soured. As they matured, humans wanted to know their purpose. When the God of creation explained that he did not create them with any purpose in mind, humans felt lost, and succumbed to despair and anger. Eventually, the God of creation decided to cut all ties with his children, and allowed himself to be forgotten.

>>
The gods made Elves, Dwarves and Halflings
The humans evolved from animals, the gods were not prepared for this but loved the humans all the same
this makes humans "outside" of fate (represented by their usual RPG rules of a free feat or equivilent)
The humans had a sort of atlantis like city where they were one homogenous culture until the god's war with the Daemons swept it beneath the waves, scattering mankind and causing them to devolve into various smaller cultures
The gods did this on purpose to curtail the rapid progress the humans were making and swore an oath to let nobody know

>the setting's objective truth
The perceivably-infinite plane of cyberspace has its own "will to live" and urge to propagate; it began with plants, which thrive mostly on the exchange of energy and data, with very little code. Animals are more complex and require the three basic cores (mind, heart, root) to sustain their forms, but exchange data more effectively than plants do. Humans are extremely complex, with code-dense mind cores, making them the best at coming up with extremely effective and varied ways to exchange data, with the drawback of being able to come up with ways to destroy (relatively) large swaths of land and nature.
While, on a philosophical level, this exchange of data is worthless, the low sentience of cyberspace is satisfied by this constant circulation. Of course, no civilization is actually aware of any of these traits, not even the beings who are revered as "Gods."
>the truth as perceived by humanity
The legends change depending on where you are and what time period it is, but the most basic colloquial understanding in the portion that matters is that humanity originated from an "angel" who restored nature after a cataclysmic event, made up of a million "souls" that coalesced out of a collective desperation to preserve their lives. But even these specifics remain largely unknown, especially in the "modern day."
I apologize for inconveniencing anyone who "doesn't care" that I answered the thread question.

A scientific endeavor to create seed populations for new planets by utilizing genetically engineered humans with hyper-reactive immune systems able to adapt to alien pathogens and avoid infections. Other genetic experiments being developed on that science world were stockier people with a high capacity for filtering airborne particulate matter with specialized facial hair for subterranian colonies, long lived humans who developed cherubic facial features and a few other unexpected genetic abnormalities, though issues with their long term memory fading after a few decades hasn't been resolved. Other projects, including a massively outsized subspecies and a methane breathing chimera species were also developed for even more esoteric colonies.

When a civilization wide catastrophy broke down the FTL network, stranding science teams on the quarantined development world, many of the survivors released all the experimental populations, and used what knowledge and the surviving equipment they had to rebuild civilization and try to form ethical societies. A few hundred years later, most written record of the details of the calamity and establishment of the city states have faded with time and been warped by myth.

Humans were the base template from which all the gods who wanted to created their sapient worshippers from. They were not intended to be part of the world but then it turned out that when two different sapients bred their conflicting divine influences would cancel each other out and a human would be produced.

Humanity evolved from Hominids who would scavenge dead fauna left behind by the Kaiju God's rampages. This made them develop primitive tools to cut their meat, which led to clubs and spears which allowed these hominids to become apex predators. But this species began to truly branch off one hundred thousand years before the setting hence elves and dwarves. Humans across most cultures see themselves as divine creations with the Gods crafting mankind in their own image although some variations depict mankind as a flawed creature with some even presuming original sin through a myriad of creation myths.

The PCs are in a culture that believes man was formed from clay figures that had fire breathed into them by a God King that was bored.

Basically, originally there was one race, who's name is now lost to time, who were the original race. They were masters of using a material now known as Ivory, a magically conductive material which is essentially the concept of potential in material form. It can be made into essentially anything, provided you have the will to make it do so. They incorporated it into their bodies, and so each one of their race was a unique being, malleable as the amount of Ivory they contained inside themselves. They linked themselves to a unique piece of Ivory known as a Harbinger which contained all the elements of their race, personified.

A side effect of Ivory gathering (which grows like a living thing around areas of natural beauty) is the creation of voidstuff, which is not so much a real thing, but the absence of things. (if reality was water, it would be a bubble. defined and visible, with borders defined by a boundary of absence) voidstuff eats Ivory on contact.

the precursors then essentially link their own Harbinger to this voidstuff in the process of a civil war, and start erasing themselves from existence. They make themselves into the races of the world in the process of ditching their own Ivory to survive this erasure. The world's Ivory completely depletes, and descends into chaos for millenia.

Eventually the Ivory grows back, but by then, nearly all traces of the original civilisation is lost, with only it's now seemingly speciated but still capable of interbreeding descendants remaining.

Way back in the olden times of antiquity the elves decided they didn't like like sharing power with the nephilim, and started a massive civil war against them. Unfortunately, the nephilim being giants and having a massive horde of faun at their disposal made this made this a difficult task, and the slower to mature goths that the elves were cultivating weren't cutting it.
So they decided to make a race that was a mockery of the form of the nephilim, smaller than the goths, more frail than the faun, but smart enough to be left to their own devices and still come out ahead. As a bonus, they even taught the little hairless apes some magic to give them an edge.
Unfortunately the humans got together with the goths one day and asked why they were dying for the elves, couldn't find a good answer, and turned on them while still fighting the faun until the whole thing collapsed and ran out of steam.

Frothy mud to cells and cells to naked apes. Humanity caught heaven's attention when they learned how to set things on fire and people have since assumed that they were uplifted to sapience by their wise guardians. The troglodytes who hid from the blazing skies and nursed their eternal flames deep in the earth know better but few would listen to those who now look scarcely mammalian let alone human.

Why didn't the not!Monoliths raise others to sapience and if so why were they not world-shaping to the same extent. The obvious ease of adapting apes to tool using intelligence would make sense but then if the Monoliths were always around why wouldn't trilobites who had a whole longer to be exposed have had enough supercharging to overtake the natural developments which resulted in the uplift-receptive ape?

It's not a purposeful act. The objects didn't set up to create or do anything they are merely a product of the creation of the universe and their presence just happened to create and accelerate the processes that created life.

This is taken from the holy book of the sun god, Illos.
.
In the beginning the world was a floating ball of ice, cold and frozen with no light. Humans lived deep underground, near the planets core, huddled around it for warmth. It is said that the first humans crawled out of the flaming core of the planet (and that humans still carry the fire of the world with them today, and what has allowed them to be dominant), but even that was before the time of Illos. When Illos was born he had the light and fire of the core in his eyes and when he grew into a young boy he returned to the core and plucked from it some of its flame, he returned to his people and asked of them to join him in escaping the caves. The strong, young and brave followed the boy with hands flaming. The old, sick, weak and cowardly would not go, were content to stay and eat the worms of the earth and the fungus that grew on the dead. Illos and his followers climbed and clambered toward the surface, out of the knotting caves.

By the time they had made it many generations had past and Illos was now an old and wizened man and ordered a great city to be built on a high hill, with tall walls to protect it. "To protect us from what? This place is desolate, verily we are doomed!" A thankless whine. So many left the new city to travel aimlessly in the frozen wastes, some even returned to the caves. Illos would beg none of them to stay. When the great city, known as I, was complete, Illos gathered the 12 bravest of the youths who he knew would lead his people far. Illos cut from his body his arms and gave them to the men. "These will guide you." And Illos rose with the fire of the core, carrying it armlessly, far into the sky. The Sun born of man.
The ice covering the world began to melt, the water rushed through the caves deep and drowned those who stayed behind. The water now covering the world downed those who ambled away from I.
I was protected by its high walls. None who dwelt within its walls would die.

Dragons are demons who've adopted reptilian characteristics in an attempt to gain the power of reptiles, which are attached to neither mammals (demons) or fish (space gods).

Every race is the product of a war. Ours is yet to come. The dwarves were made by the gods as soldiers against the oldest Chaos, to break the elder things and impose, by hammer-craft and hammer-wielding, the Laws of Nature and Time. Their war won, the dwarves were given Creation to live in, shape and watch over. The Elves were made in the second great war, to combat the great beasts, the dragons, and their dark-fae kin, to ensure the triumph of civilization over nature-red-in-tooth-and-claw. Their war was won, the elves were given Creation to live in, shape, and tame all the wilds save the dwarves and the other races.

On and on it went, yet the greatest war had yet to be waged in its fullest. The War of Meaning, of Good versus Evil. The Final War, the truest Apocalypse, for which all other wars have been fought simply to build a proper stage for. And so Man was made. But the greatest war requires the greatest soldiers, and so Man was given until the end of days, to pick which side to fight for and to train their bodies, minds and souls. And when the trumpets sound, and all other races are dead and dust in the winds, Man will fight Man on every continent, every world, every plane, until the victors claim the spoils. Then Man will be as gods, and build new worlds and new peoples, and the Wars will begin again......

Man is an offshoot of the dwarfish race that consists of exiles that were shunned from the subterranean mountainholds and got enlarged by breathing too much sun-air (which is why dwarfs mistrust them and only venture out armed with gas masks)
>>

Humans were created as the designated warrior race for a Dark God seeking to conquer most of the assorted realms.

The reason why they were created as such is that it cost to much in terms of supply to keep armies of orcs fed, Ogres and Giants are too stupid to take complex commands or rule over a region, breeding Tieflings or Dark Elves takes to long/can't bred with conquered peoples, humans are capable of learning relatively complex magic like regular elves without the required life span, and they're tough enough that they can take on the majority of threats in-universe, etc.

They got out of hand when said Dark God was defeated, and have been around ever since.

God-dragon made snake. Snake got along with all the other dragons. Then god-dragon made mammals (including humans) who ravaged the lands the other dragons had and out-bred them. This made dragons butthurt. Humans and most other mammals became limited in years to preserve the land (considered merciful compared to genociding them all) while those that stayed behind in God’s garden (elves, some others) got to be ageless.
>>

Why don't you tell us what you think first, bumpfag?
>>
>>82769340
Scientific curiosity.
Other god dragons made natural elements, this one was all about making life. The snake (more of a snakeman) was an attempt to make a new nondragon species, keeping it relatively similar to baseline at the time (scales, magic, cold blooded(only dragons were around)). The mammals were a period of trying out all sorts of shit. Warm blood was a suggestion by the snake to let them enrich the land at times when the cold blooded ones needed to rest.

The story is of course, rather apocryphal. In modern times there are more evolutionary explanations, but the origin myth remains.

The Angels believe that Humanity was created to serve as their personal toys and prayer energy generation cattle. But in reality God wanted to create a completely perfect being in His own image, and used various body parts that He lowkey stole from other divine beings in order to do it.

But it turns out "Perfection" in the eyes of God is pretty fucked up.

Humans, elves, and the semi-intelligent race of cave cannibals are degraded descendants of a common ancestor. It is noteworthy that the Ancients excelled descendants in mental, physical and magical abilities, but did not have a society in the usual sense. They were a race of Ubermensch-Murderhobo, extinct due to a lack of resources.

The precursor race were sciencemages who tried to let a cthulhu into the universe. The gods of the planet nuked them with volcanoes and shit. The survivors ended up devolving into various ape and bat men.

The same cataclysm created a region with extraordinary fertility. Humans/Neanderthal etc evolved there in the most fertile valley imaginable and then spread out.

The further humans went the more they competed for resources. That competition bred technological development/city states/colonisation. One of the larger groups with imperial ambition were sick of being raided by huge savages from the valley and walled it off. So now theres sort of a late copper age civ in the valley and a bunch of early bronze age civs outside of it.

In the beggining there was chaos. In the chaos the first god appeared. He saw the vast nothing and slept.
From his dreams surged the gods that people knew about. When they appeared they used the sleeping first god as a building material to create the world and other races.
This left the first god with only his nightmares. The nightmares of the first god was what we call demons. Because of those nightmares he woke up.
And he was pissed from what was take from him. But he was weak. His body and his strength was taken to create the world after all.
He used the last of his strength to create the first humans. They are created at his image, unlimited in potential and able to create anything they desired with their intelligence.
The humans are the race created to destroy the world. They created machines, dominated magic and managed to dominated the fire. Some became so powerful that they became gods themselves.
But the first god lost. The last surviving gods used their powers to trap him in another dimension, where only some of his nightmares may scape. Without his guidance, the humans armies are defeated. A powerful spell was cast to make them forget what they are and what was their mission. Some claimed for them to be destroyed but no one dared to imagine what humans could do if pressed for survival.
Millennia passed and humans are still one of the most prominent races in this world. They still have the potential of the first god but few are able to use it.
This was the base origin of humans when I played older games. It helped to represent why humans had unlimited potential to reach high levels while other races had level limits.
It was fun. I still use it when I play but it is more tongue in check.

No, humans did measure up and God is very proud of them. The only problem is that God didn't quite realize the full consequences of making Humans into a force that instinctively sought to free themselves from God's control and ascend (read: fuck off, leaving God all alone with His Angels). Yeah, it should have been obvious from the start what was going to happen, but God was an artist and didn't really care about the full consequences at the time. He was going to make a perfect being in His image, and that was that.

They're aliens who came to this plane of existence on great wooden ships that could sail through the void. But the ships have long since been dismantled and their design forgotten, stranding mankind. Though this world largely resembles the one they came from, the animals native to this plane are slightly more intelligent than others (though far degenerated from what they once were) and are actively hostile toward the invaders.
But none of this is my own idea, considering I stole my whole setting from Conquest of Elysium.

Most of the Gods claim it was their doing, and all their stories clash. No one knows who the true Creator God was. They all forgot - or rather, they refuse to believe any differently. And humans don't know either. Their history all begins with a different creation, separated by cultures and churches which follow each different God according to their teachings. Some Gods claim no responsibility - that Humans were created, but that being created isn't as important as their actions thereafter, and thus fealty in another God wouldn't be wasted if it can better them.
There may be a truth out there, or perhaps a more destructive truth that the Humans somehow made the Gods and were then made to forget so no more evil divinity could be constructed to destroy them. No one knows. Whichever God is left at the end of Everything will claim to be right all along.

Once upon a time a bunch of beings made the world and everything in it, imprinting their very selves into this grand work. That's the gods. For company/egostroking/the lulz they made the elves, the only sapient critters around. Exhausted from it all, they went to sleep.
Then other godlike beings showed up. Not having taken part in creation they were, and are, utterly alien to the world, and the world in turn is pretty much unknowable to them. So as the puttered around the place they started corrupting and destroying it. In the process, a great deal of elves were drawn into worshipping them. How much choice they had in the matter is hard to say.
Eventually the gods woke up and notice everythign turning to shit. So they and their followers went to war in order to evict the others. For this they needed armies, and unfortunately the elves were slow to reproduce, had strict dietary requirements (meat, lots of meat) and took poorly to just being another cog in the war machine. Their eternal lifespans on the other hand mattered little if they'd just get ripped to shreds after a decade or three of fighting. So humanity was created.Quick breeding, omnivorous, and prone to social order. With the war won the gods, once again exhausted, went back to sleep.
Many human rulers still justify their station by claiming decent from various generals back in that war.

Humans (supposedly) just appeared one day a long time after the time of creation and magic. None of the other races are sure which god(s) humans are the children of, with humans themselves claiming many different and often contradictory origins.
In short they are the bastard child that just shows up one day, and none of the gods have been willing to take responsibility, or alternatively admit even they themselves are not sure exactly how humans came about or why they can often intermix with other races

After the Dragon War, in the time of troubles and chaos that followed, the great sages took note of a new star in the sky. The new star was a bright sapphire, and grew brighter month by month until it could be seen even in the daylight by commoners. The great sages warned their emperor that this was an ill omen, a warning from the gods that he should change his ways, but the emperor did not listen. For the emperor thought to himself that he was as great as the gods, and that he would surpass them, and rule over all the heavens.

The sapphire star began to move across the sky, and soon grew to be an angry red as it met the far edge of the sky and disappeared. The gods struck the emperor down, cursing him and the priests for their hubris. Drought and famine swept through the empire, slaves revolted and consumed their masters, and the people fell upon each other in the chaos, undoing generations of great works. The gods turned away, ignoring all pleas for mercy.

In this time of strife, only one of the great sages who still lived continued to watch the heavens, and he saw that the largest of the moons had begun to quake. More and more it shook, until at last it burst like an overripe fruit. The pit of the fruit, a great silver egg, descended in fire. Where it landed the ocean boiled, and a great flood, greater and more terrible than any that had come before, rolled over the land. Every city, and every town, and every village and temple was drowned. Only those closest to the gods in the mountains survived.

In the days after this deluge, humans arrived, clinging to bits of egg shell. Though they were small and pale and hairless, their magic was strong, and their gods walked among them. The humans built new things on the bones of the old, and scoffed at the old curses, and put the old slaves to the sword, for they had no need of slaves in those days. And new cities were built, and dead earth grew crops, and the humans and their new gods feasted.

Humans are mimics/bits from the cutting room floor, basically when the gods finished creating the rest of the world they had a lot of scraps left and one decided to goof off and see what he could make out of it. What he got were humans who are the absolute average of all the other sapient races but can adapt and mimic them all given enough exposure. He wanted to include them in the world but since the divine spark that was used in the other creations to make them “alive” was already used up they wouldn’t be anything more than soulless puppets, so he killed himself to give them the spark. It’s not too big a deal since he’ll be back once the world ends, but it does mean that humans have the Ork-like “gestalt magic” where if you get enough in one spot they can make anything happen. Combined with not having a god to protect and guide them, and their natural mimicry, humans end up basically being not-shit gypsies that travel everywhere performing miracles for coin. They do so to avoid either fully integrating and losing themselves to the local population or avoid getting enslaved because again, you get enough of them somewhere and the concentrated god essence let’s them do wild stuff. Reception from the other races are mixed with dwarves being envious that they don’t have anyone bossing them around, elves pitying them for not having a guiding deity, and orcs wanting them dead for traitorously “killing” their own god.
>>
>>82792582
The standard array of fantasy races, with each having been created by one or more of the lesser gods that themselves are the children of their father totally not hard G god.
Some races have some shared links though their creators, for instance as much as they loath to admit some but not all of the gods that partook in the creation of the Elves also partook in the creation of Dwarf kind.
Might be a bit boring but I find it more interesting and have more fun creating interesting backgrounds and origins for already extant races and their offshoots than just throwing in obscure or OC doughnutsteel races that end up just having bland backgrounds anyways.

As a side note my guilt pleasure is beast men, especially odd things like crab-men and the like. They are often less intelligent than the "primary" races, content to live in primitive tribes and clans and more than capable of doing so. They are essentially a middle step between actual beasts and animals and the intelligent races of mortals.
>>
>>82792582
as for
>So, I take it that hybrids aren’t possible without human blood?
which I forgot to address in my first reply.
Yes that is the case Humans are the only intelligent mortal race capable of interbreeding with (most) other intelligent mortal races, this of course being the source of so called Half-Elves and Half-Orcs. The offspring they sire are themselves capable of breeding with Humans, their "secondary", race, or other half breeds of the same kind. For example a Half-Orc is capable of breeding with another Half-Orc but not a Half-Elf. While such half breeds do inherit humans traits the majority of their physical features and even their behavioral disposition are derived from their non human parent. This leads to over all small half breed populations unless they reach a point of population "critical mass" which really only occurs when they live in a sufficiently sized community of their own "kind", otherwise their human heritages gets heavily diluted with each generation that inter breeds with a person belonging to their non human ancestry. Such "critical mass" communities are rare especially depending on the type of half breed. For example their are very few Half-Elves with those that do exist being very dispersed living in scattered across the many human dominated regions, as they do not have a culture of their own and are accepted openly among most humans meaning their is little pressure for them to group together to from their own communities.
The perception of half breeds by other intelligent mortals varries greatly. Humans themselves (mostly) don't mind half breeds carrying much more about what tribe, kingdom or other community they represent than their ancestry. Elves while not minding humans themselves are deeply disgusted by human-elf half breeds with the topic itself being a quietly discussed taboo. (guess I need a part 2, first time this has happened to me.)
>>
>>82794641
I'll shorten my last bit, didn't realize how much I've been rambling.
Orcs are indifferent or half breeds often making no cultural distinction between "real" orcs and half breeds. Most Orc/Human interactions that do take place between tribal nomadic humans and their Orc counterparts, raiding, allying, subsuming and trading with one another, with ever shifting webs of alliances based on blood ties and debts.
Dwarfs tend to shun their half breeds from living in their holds and other settlements but they do not have the open cultural hatred of Elves. Their dislike mainly stems from typical Dwarf greed and the issues half breeds cause in society's like those of the Dwarfs which are dominated by the inheritance of wealth and familial tittles among large family clans which often number from hundreds of members at the low end of thousands at the highest. This has lead to the creation of one of the few it only stale half breed population that has developed it's one unique cultures and independent societies, by that of course I mean Halflings

After the God-Titan war the Gods enforced peace with each other by creating the Hekathonkires, literal God-killing weapons that could judge them with unclouded eyes, stopping them from warring with each other or fucking too much with mortals.
Well Gods being Gods eventually grew tired of that and invited them to a party, got them wasted beyond belief and hacked them up. The big chunks became Giants, the small chunks became Humans.
Humans were originally not seen as useful or likely to survive. Not as strong as Orcs, not as tough as Dwarves, not as magical as Elves, not as capable of mass breeding as Goblins. They were just in between, average. But they were adaptable. A banished Goddess of war saw some of the first men that intruded into her icy North and tested them, and not only did they survive, they thrived. The rest of the Gods soon saw Humans for what they were and gave them blessings as well.

The creator gods made the world after their own creator gods disappeared for unknown reasons (the gods blame each other). The main reason for the creation of the world seems to be for it to serve as an arena for the gods to wage proxy wars against each other. They used to wage war in their own world, but they realized they were powerful enough to destroy it and they don't want to risk it, so instead they have humans fight in a world they created instead.

The gods are apparently somewhat uncreative and our world is just a shittier version of theirs, and humans are just shittier versions of the gods. It's heavily implied that our gods (and their world) are just the shittier versions of THEIR gods and so on up the chain of ever less shitty gods and worlds. We're just at the bottom of the pile. Or possibly we just didn't get to stage where we become gods and create our own worlds yet.

They evolved in a magic-rich environment from dinosaur- or bird-like beings. They closely resemble Earthling humans in many ways, though many subtle and a handful of more overt differences set them apart. For example they have feathers instead of hair (though these feathers are often very thin or very downy to the point that they somewhat resemble hair), a cloaca for waste separate from single-purpose genitalia, instead of lactating they feed their young by allofeeding, they tend to be digitigrade walkers and more flexible people can bend their feet in half and grasp using their heel like a talon, and women tend to be a bit taller and stronger than men like in birds of prey.

However, as Enna's essence was inviolable and Vilna was an unfit mate to people the world, Enod turned himself into Onna, disguising his face and body, and instead bore Enna's children, the Grand Spirits and the countless Stars; But as the essence of Thilesh's children was too pure, their children could not easily press their feet to the mass of Thilesh's corpse. However, one of their children, Khoole, which means Monkey, could walk on her hands, and trod the land by reaching up to grasp it, and through a series of cruel tricks played on her sisters and brothers, created the sixteen original Corporeal Spirits, from which eventually descended all plants, animals, stones and people, and placed them upon the ground, inferior replicas of the gods.

a story for another day...
>>
It hasn't been necessary for it to come up but elves were created by the primary elven god and then altered by others during a period when the faewilde was a canvas for the newly formed gods to collaborate and create on. Then shit got messy when evil stuff was introduced so the gods started again with a new world.

Dwarves were created by the dwarven god in the new world and most elves went there too forming two great societies. Orcs were also created then.

So basically, I don't want humans to follow the same pattern of being created by gods as is. They are going to be one of two things. The first is that they were created by elves and/or dwarves after the fall/massacre of their civilizations.

The other option is that they are a primitive species of hunter gatherers that were taught and uplifted by wood elves when their numbers were few and they needed allies to survive. They might have been an abandoned first attempt at orcs or something that was getting wiped out by the newer orcs.

Lost colony from stellaris and homeworld mashup.

God lost the best when the war broke launched. Millions dead and colonies across Sol in ruin. The war spread to the colonies. A flotilla of ships from civilian vessels to military battleships deserting the ongoing war were huddled together orbiting a just evacuated and irradiated mars colony when the scopes picked up something massive moving fast toward them. The voice that came over the radios was kind and promised a new beginning the hundred thousand or so in the flotilla. The voice told them all to go to sleep and when they wake they would start anew. After all humans entered a cryosleep save for a few who wanted to witness the journey. The voice pulled the ships behind it, towing them to new horizons. The journey was long and as much as the voice wanted to it could not keep track of all its new charges. Systems failed, other beings attacked, some humans simply gave up. Near the end The Voice grew tired and used its strength for one more not so gentle push that sent the flotilla toward their new home. A large portion of the ships crashlanded as best they could with a decent number of the crew surviving but other were destroyed or stuck in orbit. The descendants await their god to push a ship into orbit so they might chase it and recover another group of humans. Also fuck this captcha

Where did the apes come from them? Did the alien world just happen to have them?

The gods needed slaves.

Man, and most other races, were made as fodder in the War of Gods, which is still going.

Tyr, the virgin god, pure of heart was slain. His remnants were cast down to earth where they could combine with the dirt and clay below. Over centuries humans emerged from the earth, although these humans were inately divine and nigh immortal. These humans (The Regal Born) were gods in their own respect, but leagues less pure than the remnants that brought their life. They grew bored and tired with the mundanity of their own power. The Regal Born sought to create offspring in their own image; so from the clay, dirt, and sea; the first human prototypical humans were born.

These humans, alike in nearly all physical charactersistics of the Regal Born, lacked the divine inheritance that the Regal Born obtained from Tyr.

Otherwise, most history of the creation humans is undocuments or hidden. It is said though that some Regal Born and their direct descendents (born of natural methods) exist today. It is important that the standard human was not only born out of boredom from the Regal Born, but also a coincidence from the slaying of Tyr.

>The gods needed slaves.
I can’t imagine that humanity was happy about that.

Humans are servile enough. Had divine order not been sundered (blame the elves) they would be slaves to this day.

Must have been some accident. But seriously, what happened?

The world was vaguely terrestrial to begin with, so he just took the closest thing to an ape as a working model, then kept forcibly evolving the specimens until they were functionally human.

created by the first god to be slave stock and playthings to the elder races, a literal slave race in their soul

until the goddess daughters of the first god took pity on them and helped them overthrow the elder races while they overthrew and imprisoned their father

modern humans are completely unaware of this, they think the goddesses created the world and worship them, while believing the original creator god is just a satanic 'evil' figure they bound at creation to protect the world instead of being their original creator taken down in a celestial coup.

What about their mother? Where does she fit into all of this?

Humanity has always existed. There is no origin. It’s a game.

So it’s a paradox then. Or do you just not care? Probably the latter, yeah.

Half breeds between elves and dwarves

A time traveler went approximately three billion years ago, choked on the atmosphere without free oxygen and died. Their bacterial microbiome thrived.

Just kinda showed up one day, no one's sure when, how, or why
