Some lore for the Lemon kingdom and Lorient on their relationship, and how the former became a vassal of the latter

The Lemon Kingdom, or Limonaint as it is called in Lorient was long both a rival and trading partner of the Lorientain kings. Buying lemons and other fruits from the area, first in its era as a duchy, and later as a kingdom, was a must for any lorientain noble or merchant wanting to impress. In return Limonaint received iron, fish, and goods bought from far shores from Lorient. The trade was often disrupted by Lorientain nobles or kings claiming land to the north, and many a war has been fought between the two, though these wars often took the theatrical form of Lorientain civil conflict, often being more mock-battlea than real war. The cycle of war and trade was finally broken when king Guille of the Lemon kingdom died without an heir, and through the complicated system of succession, the throne went to the crown prince of Lorient, Guidon, later Guidon III. From then on the Limonaint has been a vassal state of Lorient, with the crown prince traditionally holding the title "Lord-regent of the Lemon Kingdom"

Rifles and cannons have been mentioned on a few occasions.

Maybe we should just say they are extremely primitive versions of blackpowder weapons that don't work well.

Or maybe gunpowder doesn't exist/is very rare and making equivalent substances via alchemy/magic is expensive and inferior to cheaper magic wands and other such items, so guns are only viable in certain regions.

There is an eternal state of war between the Tolbari Tribes and the Bhakkari Tribes.

The Necromancer beneath the cursed battlefield and the Bog Witch have come to an agreement to not interfere with each other's plans. The Necromancer has given the witch the eye of Erelyn as part of this agreement.

The Necromancer has a lieutenant named Khazgul that is a shapeshifting demon summoned from the abyss.

The Necromancer has three disciples(Tevak, Selia, and Olrau), who all have their own hidden strongholds.

The stronghold of Tevak the Holy(so named mockingly, for he once was a priest) is located within a mountain in the middle finger of the hand-shaped mountain range that surrounds the giant handprint desert, trying to find a dragon to trick, kill, and reanimate.

Selia, illusionist and necromancer, is hidden in plain sight, creating a cult in the city of Fenqui, capital of the Changrila Empire.

Olrau, warrior and dabbler in blood magic, lurks in the forests of Faarowt. There he leads a bandit army and secretly captures creatures for his collection.

One of thethirteen wonders of the world is most certainly the Quartz tower of Florinth, which is so symbolically important that it is forbidden for any to enter unless for an important ceremony. It was constructed by the third son of the founder of Florinth, to honor his father's legacy with a glowing beacon, to symbolize all that the city could be. It is three hundred feet tall and thirty feet in diameter, with a seventy-faceted sapphire the size of a man resting upon the peak of its conical roof. Each year, on the day that its construction ended, the light of the morning sun shining through the sapphire hits the statue that was once at the center of the city before it's great expansion.

The foul lair of the necromancer is a horror to behold indeed. The castle's many chambers are home to all sorts of creatures twisted from what once were human forms. There are many rooms where the walls ooze blood so that it might flow into another to be absorbed and returned, done only to see if it could be done. The room of faces is where the relics of dark sorcery are stored. The ice halls hold many people, heroes and peasants and nobles alike, frozen but still alive. They shall likely never escape their waking nightmare, for the magic of this accursed place keeps them very, very aware.
>>
>>85037946
*It's construction was ordered by the third son, he obviously did not make it himself.

you can use rituals and blessings to reduce the % amount
only gods interfering with fate can increase the % for a birth
magick is 'mostly' inherited from the parent with the same sex
sometimes people can go their whole life without knowing they are able to do it, as use of magick is difficult to teach, and only sometimes lashes out when the user is in extreme distress - but not necessarily in a useful way because they dont know how to use it, i.e. magick gened person being tortured by gnolls might make a candlestick 50 yards away float instead of helping them escape

maybe there can be 'magick hunters' that misunderstand the inheritance and roam the lands and attempt to find children that have the ability by getting them to attempt basic spells

Here's a World Horror idea. It probably sucks and I have no idea where it would go, but here it is:
>The Tower of Song
>The shattered ruins of a tower from where the Undying Chorus menaced the land. Their song may have fallen silent after their containment, but the land surrounding the Tower has forever been changed. The only constant in the stories of those that return is the oppressive silence that blankets this forsaken place. Heaven save the land if, one day, some poor soul heard a forlorn voice on the wind.

Did we reach a consendus about the way the stairs world works?
>>
>>85039332
straight line, infinite steps
finite stars and moons that stay above the steps

the circular stairs undermines the giant's journey up, so we use the straight line instead

circular staircase could exist in the world as a monument/spiritual landmark to represent the peoples' hope for a neverending existence
an illusion propped up by druids or even a permanent kink in the physical laws of the ether could make this landmark happen

I only know a bit of lore, but I do know a few things regarding Witchelven politics. I know that Snorath country is more of less considered useless by them, that they're trading with the bog witches (mainly Baba Lustra) for rare ogre sex slaves, and the nation to the direct south of them they're certainly not trading with.
Also, in case you forgot, I did most of the world's sea-based trade routes already (or at least a mock-up of them).

People should probably review the biome map one last time before it gets cleaned up. For example:

- Forest of Getting Lost doesn't extend as far west as it should
- Drouchont, Lumberling Grove, and Dia'ul should be forest (maybe make the section of Dia'ul closest to the mountains taiga instead)
- Chill Steppes and Frost Lands should probably be tundra (due to magic cold climate)
- Maybe rethink the Mediterranean climate on the east coast, most of those areas were originally meant to be fairly unpleasant, maybe switch to meadows

Paradox games are far too ambitious for a setting that's in its infacy and has a lot of weird shit going on. A more doable mod would be in Civ V, since that could only include a couple of civs taken from the setting (Like Avangar, Azan etc) and would require little effort comparetively.

There are also black people indigenous to the Kinalonga Island, and probably other parts of the Eldritch Jungle as well, likely the coastal areas at minimum, even if the central parts are too dangerous.

There are also some people in the Terrania Free Holds with dark skin, but it is unclear if that is there original skin color, or it is a result of hybridizing with tree spirits.

Blind Bastard’s Domain (original inhabitants), Nosso Lar, Mumak, Bakir, Jeraxih, and Chakobsa are a bit ambiguous. There could also be some co-habitating the lands of the meteorite people, zulutaurs, and badger people.

>>85042812
Western Elven Empire first appeared on a map in the second thread of Ancient Empires. Unclear what the anon intended it to be. When I wrote the Drow lore, I assumed it was meant to be a long lost empire, but maybe it was just a reference to the unified Drow nation before it split up. Too late now to fix it though, I have made numerous references in the history of western nations to the Western Elven being a wood/primal elf nation that got gradually overrun by Azan. There is also now a Second Western Elven Empire since another anon thought the Western Elven Empire was the drow, and used that interpretation for one of the regions he wrote up.
>>
>>85043434
Bakir and Mumak seem to be ambiguous middle eastern people, maybe closer to persians or afghans?

chakobsa and jeraxih seem aztec/mayan too

I think one anon said that dsrvyth are a mix of african/greek and asvaran something similar, although I'm not sure now

Basically the history goes:

1) First Western Elven Empire (wood/primal elves, probably with some allies)

2) Azan Empire (who shared it with the dwarves)

3) Second Western Elven Empire (Drow)

what was the extent of these empires? Did the first elven empire cover the drow lands or just the northwestern area?
>>
>>85043478

What about the (Southwestern) Dragon Empire? Could it be that it co-existed with the First Western Elven Empire, and both of those split into the Second Western Elven Empire (Drow) and the Azan Empire?

Personally I want to reduce the patchwork nature of the setting a bit and not have so many races living side by side in isolation from each other.

Maybe the Blind Bastard's domain indigenous inhabitants, Mumak, Bakir, and Nosso Lar can be a mix of African and Sumerian (from Gilgamash), while Chakobsa and Jeraxih are the same, plus a very strong Asian lineage due to ancient horde conquests.

>>85043478
I figure pic related from the second thread shows the max extent of the First Western Elven Empire.

>>85043500
I consider the Dragon Empire and the Azan Empire to be interchangeable. At its peak, the Dragon/Azan Empire ruled over everything shown on the map as Dragon and Western Elf, but started falling apart after the Drow showed up.

let me add some:
>Oderica Pine
Also called black pine or rock pine, the Oderica pine is a species of pine tree well known for it's incredibly deep roots and thick black bark. It's native range stretches from the Scabbard Range through all of greater Azan and ends at the Oront mountains and Gommorah breach. Oderica pines mature in 3 years and can reach up to 50 meters, though they rarely achieve that size outside of their native are in the Scabbard range.

Due to its attractive dark green foliage and black bark this species is often used as decoration, likea in the well known Black Rock Garden of the Imperial palace in Nananikor, a quiet plantation of pines in the middle of the palace the emprors have traditionally used as a place of rest and meditation. The oldest known Oderica pine is said to lie in the courtyard of castle Essakor, the old capital of Azan.

In Furlaniya Oderica pines are of great cultural, economic and religious importance as they are one of the only shade-giving trees that can thrive on the large kasrtic plateau that makes up most of the region. In Furlaniyan tradition, the pine was brought to the region by Santa Oderica (hence the name) after a mythical cataclysm killed off all other trees in the region. Every year in early fall, the Furlaniyans celebrate the feast day of Santa Oderica, the feast dedicated to the saint and the tree she brought. During the festivities it is customary to plant as many Oderica pines as the village had newborns in the previous year while young boys and girls dress all in white and escort the "Odericinna", a young girl covered from head to toe with pine branches around every household in the village. Every family must gift something to the procession, most usually pastry rolls or pine liqueur, and in exchange the Odericinna blesses the family with good health and fertility for the coming year.

Yes, there's the Oromian blue banana.
>The Oroma islands are the home ofa species of large blue banana that thrives on the island's rich volcanic soil. The banana is extremely poisonous and thus of great interest to the Drow which often organise expeditions to the islands to bring back the fruit, though most are unsuccessful. All attempts so far to grow the banana on foreign shores have miserably failed.

>Wild Swamp Onion
The swamp onion, is a coarse plant of meadows and swamps, with flowers of purple, lavender, or white. It is a robust wild plant found in abundance from the Sytmphalian swamps all up to the swamps of Sadness. Although not considered one of the best for cultivation, it's ubiquity in the wild and strong onion flavour make it a staple vegetable amongst the miserable human serfs of the Bog Witch as well as any other inhabitant of the swamps.

>Black Stallion Grape
Black stallion grape is a red grape variety that originates from the wine-growing region south of the Pommel mountains. It is believed to be closely related to the wild Kratovyan grape that can be found all along the Scabbard range.

It is the most planted grape variety in Azan, used to make traditional Azanese Mavrokrasí wine. Black stallion is also considered the most important grape variety in Furlaniya and one of the most important in the Shangrila Empire. It is also grown in regions of the Lemon Kingdom and Ögchuk fiefdoms.

Black stallion berries are large and deeply coloured, with its dark berries growing on vigorous vines. Depending on the area, this harvest can begin from early fall and continue into later months in more southerly areas..

MANEATER ISLANDS

Island (1) is known as Lekhes. It's inhabited by a party of rogue ChangriLese mercenaries, who are hostile to Big Sopho's men and other pirates. One can find mysterious statues of orangutans scattered around the island, although no one knows who built them and for what reason.

Islands 2, 3 and 4 are known as Axe Isle, Black Tear Renato island. Ferocious hurricanes are common there, as well sand fleas that can quickly eat the skin of anyone not wearing approriate protection. They are under the de-facto rule of Corsair King Big Sopho, a black skinned pirate who's thick as a bear and tall as a tiger. Big Sopho was a crewmate of the last Maneater Isles Pirate King, earning a reputation as a "gentle giant". He earned the respect of his crewmates when he was able to single-handedly defeat 5 cutthroats that were out to kill him, with nothing but his bare hands. Many trading posts are set up in their shores and caves and secret operations are ongoing deep in the jungles.

Island (5) is known as the Isle of Toads. It's inhabited by a mysterious species of huge toads that are able to mimic human speech. Those toads live in boggy waters and deep rivers and sing enchanting songs during the night.

Island (6) is known as Fallgrim. The town of Ortega lies in its northern shore. It's a town ruled by its mayor, Art Jota. It's the only town that's free of any pirate's rule, and it's been established as a neutral ground between warring pirates and other undesirable criminals. It also houses a former slave refugee deep in the jungle, so many slavers make their way to Fallgrim, looking for their escaped slaves.
>>
>>85045453
So we have an Ortuga and an Ortega? Might get a bit confusing, we will probably have to be careful with this one
>>
Island (7) is called the Bloedzuiger Island. It's filled with bogs and bleak, steep cliffs. It's inhabited by bloodworms, grotesque leech-like monsters that walk on two legs who pour acid on the wounds of their living prey, in order to digest their intestines and liver. Despite that, it's populated by a certain tribe from the Badgassi lands, whom the other pirates call simply "The Skinners", due to their habits of skinning their victims and making cloaks and bandanas out of their skin. People usually avoid Bloedzuiger, and for good reason.

Island (8), also known as the Basilisk Isle, is the second largest island of the archipelago, and also the most populous one. Its the only island that has mantained a steady population thoughout the years, its inhabitants not wiped out by diseases, slavers or pirate raids. Rainforests and hills cover the island, in which live dreaded cockatrices and basiliks, some even reaching the size of a large horse.

Island (9) is known as Segador. Corsair towns and pirate lairs have sprang up, being abandoned not long after. Witnesses have claimed that its haunted by a monster that takes the form of a cloud of black smoke. It's said that the Monster makes a variety of peculiar sounds -- two of the most distinctive being a mechanical clicking and a loud high-pitched warning or alarm call. It holds enormous strength, capable of knocking down buildings and trees with ease, and it's only limited somewhat by large bodies of water.

Island (10) is known as Florana. It was the first island that people from Dsrvysth set their foot in, who subsequently named the whole archipelago off the many species of hideous plants that seemingly feast on human (and other mammal's) flesh. These plants can be either restricted to the ground or either appear as vines that use camouflage in order to ambush and consume unsuspecting travellers. Despite that, many outspots and strange ruins are located in Florana.

I Had some ideas

Sugar Cane and Powder Cane

Regular Sugarcane: the plant we all love and adore its origins can be traced back to the eldritch jungle but can be found in small numbers in the realm of the Bog witch. One of the most common variants so they can be found all over the place in small plantations but these are often short lived and die out after 3 or 5 generations due to mishandling, Florinth has the greatest monopoly of sugar canes and use the extracted sugar in their cuisine mainly making sweet pastries. The second greatest producer of it was the Azan empire for roughly less than a century ( around 600 years ago) before their greatest fields have been burned down accidentaly, legends say spies from Changrila burned it down out of jealousy who knows for sure? around the same time they finaly extracted something akin to fuel from it.

Powder Cane:
Odd entry in the family and possibly the most sought after one because the extract is not exactly sugar instead some form of biological gunpowder. Again it originates from the eldritch Jungle but can be found naturaly in the realm of the bog witch nobody knows how these plants got there in the first place but they are there.
Raising them is cumbersome harvesting them is complicated. Because of the difficulities producing them in great quantities is near impossible only Changrila could produce them in a number that it can be used but still its too small, only the most elite units have acces to the powder. Myth goes that Changrila originaly wanted the regular one but by mistake they got the Powder Cane.

I also forgot that Ortega/Omerta is known for its brothels and brawling competitions. The pirate lords respect Major Jota's rule and provided services. One can find many card and table games from all around the world played in its busy taverns.

>>85045636
Florana is currently ruled by Aurélien Chastang, a fearsome corsair from Lorient. He is handsome and thin, with silver-gold hair and grey-green eyes. He is styling himself as "Lord of the Waters". He used to be the Royal Admiral of the Lorientais navy, although he escaped with the fleet and set himself up in the Maneater Isles. He's in a quarrel with Big Sopho and other pirate captains.

>Cannibal Orchid
The Cannibal Orchid or Venustrap, appears to offer the promise of sex: parts of the plant have evolved to resemble attractive females of the human species. The mimicry is near perfect. The pseudo-copulation strategy of this carnivorous orchid species enables it to lure in male prey. By the time they realize the unfortunate position they have put themselves into by getting too close to the plant, it is already too late. The trap snaps shut and the razor-sharp, thorny teeth of the fleshy leaf outgrowths, which are located around the bait like a rosette, pierce the victim's flesh and make any movement impossible. After this, digestive fluids are secreted and the mauled prey is slowly decomposed. After the body has fully digested, the woman-shaped fruiting body withers and the plant "spits out" a skull-sized seed from which a new cannibal orchid can grow. The force with which this seed is shot out of the plant is so great that it can fly up to 300 meters away. The plant then slowly opens up again regrows it's bait and is ready for a new meal. The carnivorous plant loves warm habitats with frequent rain showers and has been sighted in the Badgassi jungles, on Bloedzuiger Island and in the Eldritch rainforest even if it is relatively seldom to be found there. The Cannibal Orchid is most common in the moist jungles on the island of Ortuga where she is said to have widowed countless women

>Blue Cedar
Also know as the sweet cedar and the southern cedar, the blue cedar is a species of tree whose range extends from the kingdom of Azhar Nar, along the Huan-Ho-Sei Sea and down into the Brumgull steppe. Blue cedars very rarely grow above 30 meters, but are well known for their huge trunks which can measure more than 3 meters in diameter. The cedars usually form forests on mountainsides and hill slopes, with a preference for coastal areas. The species is very tolerant of dry and hot conditions and their forests provide valuable shade in otherwise desert conditions.
The blue cedar is well known for its abundant and sweet resin which was used in ancient times to preserve mummies. Explorers and looters of ancient tombs and caves report the smell of blue cedar resin can linger for millennia, so much so that the smell of blue cedars underground has become something of a folk legend indicating spirits of the dead are present nearby.

But people who live near each other often shared ancestors if you went back far enough, you rarely had a white nation, a black nation, and an asian nation right next to each other with little intermingling.

Instead you had invasions and migrations of technologically superior peoples who generally intermingled with the people they conquered.

>History

The city was founded somewhere after the dissolution of the Second Western Elven Empire. It was mostly inhabited by humans, although it was under the rule of the Drow, under the Drow Conderacy at the time. Even though most of the humans in Moreelse were not actual slaves, they were still second-hand citizens, not enjoying many of the liberties and luxuries of their overlords.

Once internal strife broke the Confederacy apart, giving its place to several independent Drow City-States, the humans of Moreelse rebelled, killing many of the stationed Drow. They used that opportunity to form their own government that was composed of a council that included the city's most influential nobles, as well as the Hierarch that represented the clergy. And thus, the Free City of Moreelse was born.

Things were going smoothly, with Moreelse building many alliances with the other human states of the West. It all changed overnight, however, when a ship carrying a group of exiled alchemists and pyromancers from Arangea crashed on its shores.

This group, known as the "Hydra's Eyes", was formed by a Nasrian pyromancer known as Javed, who had made his way to the Alchemists Guild in Arangea. His revolutionary ideas and experiments with fire magic earned him a sizable number of followers, forming the infant version of the Hydra's Eyes organization as we know it today.

Javed and his followers were soon exiled by the guild and the city of Arangea, citing that his thoughts had grown too wild, dangerous and uncontrollable. However, all changed when the ship that was carrying them to the Oroma Islands was taken off course by a terrible storm just south of the Land of Storms.

Finding themselves in Moreelse, the Hydra's Eyes soon fled to its sewers and secret tunnels, initially bribing the guards and nobles against the Arangean hunters that were after them.

However, their syndicate grew rapidly. They formed a cooperative relationship with the city's clergy, adopting their religion of the Cleansing Flame and using them as a body of protection, while they got rid of the problematic individuals that the Cleansing Flame priests couldn't take care of themselves due to the lack of jurisdiction.

The Hydra's Eyes turned from rogue crime syndicate to a powerful organization when one of their alchemists found a particularly interesting plant while in an expedition in the Kinnog jungle. The Hydra's Eyes were able to extract a powder from their leaves, turning it into a narcotic called "The White Death".

The syndicate quickly spread the use of this narcotic throughout the west, nowadays its widespread in Arangea, Hithlone, the Drow city states, the Sea Elves, ChangriLa, Gvilderstaaten, Ampleazzo, Zapalovah and of course, Moreelse. The Hydra's Eyes got the nobility of Moreelse addicted to the White Death, which they use as leverage, turning them into their puppets.

Nowadays the Hydra's Eyes are virtually untouchable in Moreelse, and spine-chilling rumours float around its Underworld.. It's said that the Hydra's Eyes scientists have gotten even bolder, conducting abominable experiments beyond the boundaries of science, turning men and dogs into beastly, mindless mutants for use in their legions, and conjuring forbidden insectoid creatures, like the terrible Koschey.

>Geography

Moreelse sits in the shore of Lake Moreelse, in the valley of the Isaarn River. Many murky bogs and swamps surround the countryside of Moreelse, although most of them have been dried out by now. North of the city, in the middle of a larges wamp, lies an Old Manor surrounded by a huge cemetary. Although considered as haunted by the locals, it's said that the Hydra's Eyes conduct their most terrifying experiments there.

>Religion

The Cleansing Flame is worshipped in Moreelse. It's said that it derives from an ancient Drow deity, from when these humans where under their Empire, although that connection has been lost now.

The Clergy is headed by an Hierarch, who holds a spot in the city's council, along its nobles. Worshippers of the Cleansing Flame believe in the undying flame as a symbol of survival and a guide through darkness. They view it as a harbinger of progress and better days to come.

This religion's influence rose rapidly after the arrival of the Hydra's Eyes, and they soon established a knightly order, the Order of the Illuminatus. The primary purposes of the Order are to defend the downtrodden from evil and spread the belief in the Cleansing Flame, but they also serve as a police force or an iron fist to hunt down heretics. The Order considers practicioners of magic - apart from Pyromancy - as evil. They also are extremely hostile to non-humans, as many businesses owned by Drow, Hobbits and Orcs were ravaged during the first years of the Hydra's Eyes presence in Moreelse.

>Culture

Moreelsians are considered very courteous and religious, although they are despised by many of their non-human neighbors due to their rampant xenophobia, something that's built up since the establishment of the Order of the Illuminatus. Their language, although similar to that of Hithlone's and the Three Sister's, also holds influence from the queer tongue of the southern Drow. Usage of the White Death is widespread in the streets of Moreelse.

>Economy

Lying where many trade routes converge, Moreelse is a generally wealthy city, although not as much as Hithlone or the Three Sisters. Its main exports are alchemical concoctions, paper, fruit and of course the dreaded White Death. Although trading relations between them and their neighbors have soured in the last years due to the presence of the Hydra's Eyes, the White Death has caused the flow of heaps of coin in the streets of Moreelse.

>Demographics

Humans - More than nine out of ten people in Moreelse are humans. Most are natives, although many people from the Remnants and the Triarchy have fled to Moreelse in order to join the ranks of the Illuminatus Order.

Non Humans - Few non humans have remained in Moreelse after being oppressed by the Cleansing Flame fanatics and the Hydra's Eyes. Most are old Drow families still living in their ancestral homes or bank-owning Dwarves.

Millitary - The Moreelsians have their own army comprised of infantrymen, arbalesters and cavalrymen, as well as their own - albeit smaller - fleet. Rough terrain between them and the Drow city-states has made their lands quite easily defendable. Although there's a civil guard in Moreelse, most of the patrolling and law enforcement is done by the Order of the Illuminatus.

>Government

Moreelse is ruled by a council that's composed of the city's most influential noble families, as well as the Hierarch of the Cleansing Flame. The council elects a Burgomaster on a one year term, who's responsible for much of the city's internal affairs. The shadow of the Hydra's Eyes looms over the Council, with many nobles being bought over by the criminal syndicate with either coin, or drugs.

>City

Moreelse is divided in four quarters. The Old City of Moreelse is divided by sturdy walls, and in it live the cities' oldest families and nobles. The New Ghetto houses most of the city's poor inhabitants, a lot of them non-humans. Many run-down hospitals and schools also operate there. The Trade Quarter is most active during the day, with many market stalls and festivities being set up. It's also the banking hub of Moreelse. The fourth quarter is the Flame Quarter. It's almost absent of city guards, since it's where the Order of the Illuminatus, as well as the Temple of the Cleansing Flame are located. Folks speculate that the Hydra's Eyes operate in the sewers under the Flame Quarter.

Many smaller towns and villages are scattered in the outskirts of Moreelse, specializing mostly in lumber and farming.

>Foreign Relations

The Triarchy - Although these two nations have been close to each other since the independence of Moreelse, Hydra's Eyes alchemists and mutants clash over the Triarchy's slavers in the Kinnog Jungle. The City's Council is reassuring the Triarchs that they've got the situation under control, although the latter have seen no progress as of yet.

Drow City-States - There's mutual hatred between these two nations. The Drow hate the Moreelsians for the horrible treatment of their own kind, and the Moreelsians hate the Drow for decades of subjugation.

Hithlone - Considered trade partners, Hithlone, as well as Azan, is the Hydra's Eyes main destination of the White Death. Many mages live in Hithlone, so for that reason there's a cloak of dissent between them.

Kinnog - The Jungles of Kinnog are the source of the White Death plant. Hydra's Eyes mutants and alchemists have set their operations there, often clashing with the native inhabitants and slavers from the Triarchy whenever their operations get threatened.
>>
>>85055326
Arangea - The city's officials distrust the Moreelsians, due to their inabillity of capturing the Hydra's Eyes renegades and returning them to Arangea in order for justice to be carried out. Many bounty hunters have set out for Moreelse in search of the crime syndicate, although few have had any success

Also, I'll update the biome map with >>85042520 >>85052949 tomorrow, I can't do much today. Many have said the biome map needs a major makeover (and I agree), but right now there are other priorities.

I hereby request that breach Ogres look like this. I think there's some Witch Elven lore about them and the Ogres coming from the Breach.
>>
>>85044094
yeah sounds about right
>>
>>85050076
cattails already look like they have sausages on the end making it look more natural.

the lore of glutton island is that it was created by a gluttonous god, it would make a lot more sense for the god to think of making cattails with hotdogs on the end because cattails already look like they have hotdogs on the end.

also we could call them hotdogtails
>>
>>85057385
Any information that you want included in the Terusia lore? I am going to write them up next.

Azan and the Drow have a lot of stuff on the wiki if you need ideas for the campaign.

>>85057419
>I think there's some Witch Elven lore about them and the Ogres coming from the Breach.
Must have missed that one. I think three of the breaches only produce succubi. Maybe one of the other ones is different. When I wrote the Witch-Elf lore, I put forward three potential origins for them, one of which also applies to the ogres.

In terms of Breaches though, ogres seem mostly associated with the glutton god, while Witch Elves are associated with the Succubus Queen, so they won't be from the same breach. Also, there are already red horned ogres in the setting, so don't know if it is necessary to make a new ogre race, or just expand on the history of the existing horned ogres.

>>85056264
We should probably have a wiki page for the Underground Stuff since most of it isn't long enough to justify its own page.

The Path of Ascension

A cult like faith that revolves around the preparation for and attempt of ascension from one staircase to the next. The core belief of the ascender's cult is that one achieves spiritual enhancement from ascending to the next stair, following in the literal footsteps of Giants and Gods.
>>
>>85060737
The Infinite Path

Directly opposed to the Path of Ascension cult, despite some members having similar goals, spiritual ascension through physically ascending the Giant's Staircase. The members of the Infinite path believe that the true nature of the staircase is infinite, looped upon itself in an unending cycle. The Infinite Path encourages all members to seek their own means of ascension. Some attempt to achieve immortality believing the gods will return in the endless loop, others attempt to ascend the staircase by launching themselves into the heavenly void, believing they will land on the other end of the loop, achieving instantaneous apotheosis by having leapt past so many stairs. There are those in the cult that believe the staircase is not looped but should be, drawing on twisted knowledge and powers, even attempting communion with Mg'umba believing the celestial to be ally in this endeavor. Regardless of their methods the members of the Infinite Path often find themselves at odds with The Path of Ascension, coming to blows with one another more often than not.

Mainly just places and place names. Small towns and cities

Niikolai
>A former Azan city along the southern coast of Terusia. Niikolai started as an Imperial fort atop a flat hill, overlooking a natural harbor and the flows of the Geistfox where it meets the sea. It would eventually become the core of the city. The thick, and tall walls of the fort making an effective citadel and center of government. The fort is home to the Council of Worthies, the petty Nobles and Merchants who maintain governance over the province. It is also home to a professional Cadre of soldiers, the Niikolai Lost Legion, made up of the descendants of Azan Legionnaires who stayed behind when the Empire withdrew from the Province.

The Whispering Woods
>The Whispering Woods are one of the many alpine forests bordering the Scabbard Range. Made up of rock hard Oderica Pines which grow along the rocks and White Oaks which grow along the plains, the Whispering Woods serve as a natural border between Terusia province and the Blasted Plains that lead into Drow territory. Arching through the Woods is the Geistfox river, so named for the spirit like creatures seen to inhabit the forest, which starts in the mountains and goes south towards the coast. The river is the only real way through the Forest unless you skirt the edges of it, as the deep you go into the Woods the harder it is to leave them

Geistfox River
>A medium sized river, ignored by most maps of the region but crucial for northern trade it is frequented by trade and cargo barges, small river watch boats from Niikolai and even river bandits. It's source in the Northern stretch of the Scabbard Range has yet to be found and it stretches for hundreds of miles down to the sea. Passing a number of small towns and villages before reaching Niikolai

I see Terusia as being a war ravaged and slowly rebuilding province. Small independent villages responsible for their own defense. As well as being a melting pot of the North and West.

I think it goes line this

>Southwestern Dragon Empire, 1k years past
Basically covered most of western portion of the world. Then it broke apart, with Azan being its successor state in the Southwest, while the far west Continent was subject to two different elven empires.

First was the Western Elven Empire, which was mostly wood elves from the north. Then that broke apart, and a second Western Elven Empire was formed, also known as the "Drow Empire". Successor state of the Drow Empire was the Drow confederacy, which blew up thanks to internal strife so we have the various Drow city states now.

>Terusia Isthmus

>History:

The border between the drow and the Azan Empire has changed frequently since the drow first established themselves in the Ashlands, with many battles fought among the hills and valleys of the Scabbard Range/Terusia Isthmus. For several centuries, the Whispering Woods have served as the de facto border on the southern side of the mountains, and the Grey Marshes have served as the northern boundary.

However, 50 years ago, rumors began to spread of a plan to demolish the city of Valens, and dig a canal to the nearby dwarf ruins of Zalivarr, which it is said was once the entrance to a massive underground canal leading to the far side of the isthmus. The goal of this of course would be to rehabilitate the underground canal, allowing ships below a certain size to be pulled from one coast to another.

It is unclear whether this plan was ever truly viable, or even anything but a rumor, but needless to say, this wasn’t popular in Valens, and also in other cities as well, as most rely on the transport of goods through the mountain passes to form the backbone of their economies. The legion and local administrators were either driven out or defected during a three-year long rebellion, and the Terusia Isthmus as been independent ever since.

>Government:

Niikolai, a fort city near Whispering Woods, is the de facto capital, though the smaller the community, the more independent it is, with the smaller villages and hamlets essentially self-governed. The Council of Worthies rules Niikolai, and to a lesser extent the other cities and towns.

>Economy:

The backbone of the economy is the transfer of good from the north coast to the south coast, or vis-versa, via footpaths through the mountain passes. Most cities and towns other than Niikolai and Varens have a “twin” located on the opposite coast.
Fishing is also a key industry, as is ship building and repair.
>>
File: Coastal Town.jpg (404 KB, 2250x992)

>>85071010

Due to the mountainous terrain, farming is difficult and is mostly restricted to what is needed to support the local population. Small grain farms and vineyards are common along the coast, while sheep herding is common along the mountain slopes.

Forestry to support the ship building industries is also important, with several fast growing species like the Oderica Pine providing most of the wood.

Due to the threat of invasion by the drow (and more recently by Azan), little wealth is kept or invested in the Isthmus. Buildings tend to be small but functional, made from wood or white stone and terracotta tiles. Wealthy nobles and merchants tend to have roots in other nations, and many send much of their wealth abroad to banks, investors, and family for safe keeping.

>Foreign Relations:

Azan – Although 47 years has past since the end of the rebellion, everyone knows that Azan will one day attempt to regain this province, though it is unclear whether they will invade directly, subvert politically, or perhaps merely wait until the drow launch their own invasion, then come to the rescue, for a cost... Despite this, many of the merchants that ship goods through the Isthmus are Azanese, and the two regions are too culturally similar for there to be a strong hatred between the commonfolk.

Drow City-States – The drow have controlled the western portion of the Scabbard Range for over two centuries, and it is almost inevitable that one or more city-states will try to expand eastward. But for now the main drow alliances prefer raiding northward, and only occasional minor raids pop up from the cave networks beneath Terusia.

Bumi, Gvilderstaaten, Terpysythea, Azhar Nar, and Lorient – Aside from Azan, these nations are the most frequent users of Terusia’s mountain passes, and you will find merchants and sailors from all of them in Terusia’s port communities. However, Terusia’s government trusts none of these states as all of them would benefit if Azan were to somehow forge an underground canal through Terusia.

Daligrad and Moreelse – Two more relatively frequent users of the mountain passes, the criminal organizations of these regions have mixed feelings about Terusia’s independence. On one hand, Terusians are far easier to bribe now that they are independent, on the other hand, the underground canal would also open interesting possibilities.

>Geography:

Although the coastal regions have a similarly warm climate to neighboring regions, most of the central isthmus is mountainous, and in some places the mountains directly border the sea, while in others they are surrounded by foothills.

Despite its small size, it has a range of interesting features:

Niikolai - A former Azan city along the southern coast of Terusia.

The Whispering Woods - The Whispering Woods are one of the many alpine forests bordering the Scabbard Range. Geistfox River - A medium sized river, ignored by most maps of the region but crucial for northern trade it is frequented by trade and cargo barges, small river watch boats from Niikolai and even river bandits. It's source in the Northern stretch of the Scabbard Range has yet to be found and it stretches for hundreds of miles down to the sea. Passing a number of small towns and villages before reaching Niikolai.

(I didn't write the above three geography items, just incorporating them for a more logical flow on the wiki)

Varens – This moderate sized city of canals and dry docks is located among the ruins of the dwarven hold of Zalivarr, as well as the river delta formed by water draining from a massive rock pile in the centre of the ruins. The ruins, and the river, are said to connect to an underground canal that was painstaking carved out by the dwarves in ancient times to connect the ocean on either side of the isthmus. However, any attempt to reestablish the canal would not only require the demolition of much of Varens, but would also damage the economy of most of Terusia’s other cities.

Firefly Hills – This long stretch of foothills on the southern side of the Scabbard Range is imfamous for its indigenous fireflies, which come out in vast numbers for several months each year in the summer.

>Demographics:

Humans – Most of the population are human, and former inhabitants of the Azan Empire, which of course is quite diverse in terms of human ethnicities. Inhabitants of the southern coast tend to have the stronger tan and darker hair associated with the core Azan Empire, while the inhabitants of the northern coast have paler skin and fairer hair, similar to Gvilderstaaten, the Isle of Wizards, and the northern coast of the Azan Empire. However, you will find both groups on both coasts, and many humans descended from other western maritime nations as well.

Drow and Half-Drow – Not uncommon in the Isthmus, most descend from ideological exiles from the drow city states like Eilistraeans, while others are descendants of slaves and their masters. Despite the long history of warfare with the drow city-states, the drow find Terusia to be among the most accepting of their kind, as most communities have at least a few long-term drow residents who can be relied upon to sniff out spies and infiltrators from the city-states.

Demon Tieflings – Many tieflings have migrated here from Gvilderstaaten, finding the people tolerant, and the lifestyle less cutthroat than their homeland. Demon tieflings have a known tendency to immoral and cruel behaviour, but locals are fine with longtime residents with no history of causing trouble.
>>
>>85071106

Dwarves – There are surprisingly few dwarves in the region given the number of abandoned dwarven holds and mines. However most of these ruins were abandoned long before the arrival of the drow, their residents drawn to more plentiful opportunities in the Ashlands and the Baalps (regions which in turn were later overrun by the drow and gibberlings respectively). Most dwarves in the region today are farmers, fishers, and craftsmen.

Hobbits – Some hobbits have arrived from Gvilderstaaten, but they tend to be short term residents.

Goblins and Harpies – Small colonies of goblins and harpies live in the more remote parts of the Isthmus. Although not all hostile, enough are that they are usually attacked or avoided when they appear.

>Religion:

Most inhabitants follow the New Azan Faith, sometimes with other pantheons partially incorporated like the Triple God Faith, the Dwarven Gods, or Eilistraree.

>Military:

Terusia’s main fighting force is the Niikolai Lost Legion, made of the descendants of defectors, deserters, and retirees of the legions that tried to put down the rebellion. Most communities have their own militia, and the more remote ones rely entirely on them for defence, knowing the closest Lost Legion garrison is far to far away to be of use.

>The Azan Faith (see Azan wiki entry for history)

The Azan Faith is centered around the Faceless God Bronzar, and his Prophet Aza, who helped the ancient nations of the west and south defeat an unspecified evil in ancient times via divine magic.

The Old Faith had a more binary and hierarchical view of the world, while the New Faith is more flexible and prioritizes spreading the Faith and maintaining its moral supremacy in case one day Bronzar must unite much of the world against evil again.

>Key Figures:

Bronzar, the Faceless God – A powerful force, but selfless and humble, Bronzar is credited for safeguarding the world against great evils in ancient times, and is still considered active in modern times. His faithful are sometimes granted divine magic, generally healing, but also sometimes offensive magic meant for demons, undead, and other evil beings. Bronzar discourages egotism, and in ancient times was generally depicted as a man without a face. The Old Faith often gave him a draconic appearance, and the New Faith heavily discourages depicting him at all, though some regions ignore this. Bronzar rarely communicates directly with followers, perhaps seeing petty politics and doctrinal disputes as beneath him.

Aza the Prophet – The main prophet of Bronzar in ancient times, when he, and some others like him mobilized ancient humans against some great evil.

Alarna Hiranur – The second main prophet of the Faith, there is some debate whether she actually is a prophet as she never claimed to be one in her lifetime. However, her reforms are the backbone of the New Faith, so most assume she was in some way guided by Bronzar, otherwise why are the members of the New Faith able to access divine magic still.
>>
File: The Prophet Alara.jpg (103 KB, 613x766)
103 KB
103 KB JPG
>>85071384

Other Figures – Depending on the region, the local church will sometimes integrate other gods into the faith, along with a wide range of local prophets and saints. The logic behind this is generally that as an altruistic, selfless god, Bronzar will naturally have friendly relations with other relatively altruistic gods.

>Organization:

Over time, the Faith has become highly decentralized, with separate church hierarchies appearing in any nation or cultural region where existing hierarchies can’t gain traction. These separate hierarchies disagree on a wide range of minor issues, and often end up distinct aesthetically as they adapt to local culture. However, the religious leaders back in the core Azan region have the most moral sway with branches of the New Farith, and smaller branches often follow their lead on new issues.

>Locations:

The Azan Faith can be found throughout range of the old Azan/Dragon Empire and beyond. It co-existed with a number of other religions even at the height of the Old Faith’s intolerance and excess, and has since then managed to get along with most relatively altruistic religions in most places, allowing it to exist as a minority religion in many regions.

>Key Beliefs:

The New Faith emphasizes altruism, humility, thoughtfulness, and non-judgmental behavior, except in the face of true evil.

The Old Faith has a more binary view of the world, seeing evil everywhere and seeking to stamp it out. In some places, the Old Faith has become fanatically pro-human, and borderline genocidal against “evil races” like the demon tieflings, witch-elves, or drow.

speaking of faith, I think that gods should be created and be sustained on the faith of those who believe them

Maybe some of them, but others are clearly extraplanar beings who don't necessarily seem to care about their followers.

This. I don't like the idea of the gods needing to feed on adoration to survive, it makes them less godly.

Plus, some of the gods mentioned don't seem to need it anyway. The God of Action seems to just enjoy watching shit happen for no other reason but entertainment.
