Ashmark, a large fortress carved out of a hill, is the capital of the Aurous Highlands. It was constructed by King Basil I after the discovery of the first gold mine, and it's surrounded by the walled city of Canavan, at the foot of the hill where it's built. Canavan was just a small mining village around 180 years ago, but its popularity and population bloomed with the discovery of the first gold vein. Today, it is the second biggest city in the Aurous Highlands.

Sanderport is a walled harbor city situated on the northern coast of Scimitaria. It's the historical capital of the region, as it was there where the Lesser Kings and the Lord Paramounts used to rule from, before the golden discovery. It's the biggest population centre of the Lordship and also the longest continuously inhabited settlement.

The city is renowned for its goldwork and goldsmiths and produces a spiced honey wine that's a popular export in the Adamantine Archipelago and the Blesire States. Sanderport is also renowned for its brothels and its well trained City Watch that polices the city. There are also other port towns along the northern coastline, although none are as important and wealthy as Sanderport.

Many other cities and towns have sprung up in the past, usually near a recently discovered gold mine. For that reaosn, there are many settlements that become ghost towns once nearby mines stop producing ore, which is something that becomes ever so common nowadays.

>LOREDUMP DOMINION OF THE BOG WITCH
Back when the world was young and the first monsters crawled from the depths of the swamplands of the northwestern part of the continent, to spread and afflict the rest of the world, the young Bog Witch reveled in the primeval chaos. Fascinated by the different shapes and faces of these monsters, she grabbed a handful of the fertile mother earth from the black morass and decided to influence the appearance and fate of this world herself. She would send out some of the ugliest boglins to mine the rare Bog Iron from the depths of the smelliest part of the Bog known as the Sulfur Swamp, from which noxious fumes rose to the surface. Iron ore was so scarce, and the Boglins had to dig so deep, that deep in their warm, humid mineshafts they came upon a vast cavern inhabited by small creatures with large yellow eyes, the snout of a toad, and the ears of a bat. In this cave, the boglins also found another older, black variety of bog iron, which they called Underworld Ore. True to their nature, they slaughtered nearly all of the blind creatures, which they disparagingly called Moldlings because of their mold-colored skin color, which they shared with the larger mushrooms on the tunnel walls. Its was a horrible bloodbath. The remaining specimens of the species fled to the deeper reaches of their intricate cave system. Their blood soaked the damp earth and the ancient underbog ore.

>LOREDUMP DOMINION OF THE BOG WITCH
Greatly afraid of the black magic of the Bogwitch, the Boglins mined the rare black ore for many generations until they adjusted themselves to the eternal darkness, their eyes became blind and glassy themselves and they grew long fingers for digging in the earth. They became what we now call Cave Boglins, or Mor Org as they call themselves. The Bogwitch, who was delighted with the discovery of the black ore and intuitively sensed its dark magical properties, had the strong green swamp ogres forge magical items from this rare material. For the purpose of smelting and forging the ore, an ironworks village called Urogney was built in the sulfur swamps, from which black fumes have been rising continuously ever since, darkening the sky above this part of the bogs. It quickly turned out that the processing of the black ore demanded a price, the green swampogers became paler and more aggressive over time. Also the rest of their appearance, as well as their lifespan changed, as if the ore was slowly robbing them of their life energy. Corrupting them into even more vile, cruel and ugly creatures. Eventually, the large green swamp ogres became the smaller and bulkier pale swamp ogres that are common today, which are called Urg Bain by the other swamp dwellers. The remaining ogres were enraged by this corruption, which they attributed to the witch's black magic abilities, but they knew of her power and were too afraid to rebel against her, an uprising would only come many millennia later. The first artifact to be forged from the black underworld ore was a massive black cauldron.

The Bog witch sent boglins to provide her with all kinds of obscure ingredients and after a few years all the preparations were made and all reagents for her dark recipe were ready. She filled the black cauldron with the green acidic blood of a Swamp Serpent, the distilled essence of a Wisp, the tears of a dying maiden sacrificed on a black altar, six drops of black milk from her sixth breast, seven teeth of an enemy of heirs, a drop from the pineal gland of a rotsucker, a plagueroot harvested on a new moon, a black lotus blossom from a far way island, three scruffy toadstools, a cut up bog mandrake, the legs of a giant toad, thirteen pickled basilisk eyes, the bile of a widow, the dryed wings of a scavenger percher, the stinger of an albino water leaper, three old bloatworms, seven eels, two barrels of snakes, two buckets of leeches, a cup of slug slime, a bucket of worms, seven witch-hat mushrooms found in a fey circle, poison pressed from strangle ivy who recently killed someone, ground down nightmare weed, deadly nightshade, brown opium, pickled datura insania, cut down cadaver sponge, three hairs of a blind man, white foxglove, ground wormwood bark, pox fungus, a gallows flower, aswell as various other weird and disgusting things. In addition, the bog witch added the handful of fertile mother earth, and put in a final secret ingredient that the surrounding Boglins and Ogres couldn't see.

>LOREDUMP DOMINION OF THE BOG WITCH
>"It is done"
Said the Bog Witch.
>"It shall be called the mothersoup."
A shudder went through the ranks of the spectators.
Then she spoke in a blasphemous voice:
>"Here I stand, forming beings in my image
>A generation that shall be like me
>to suffer, to cry, enjoy and rejoice
>And not to respect you
>Like me."
The stinking broth began to boil, bubble and steam, briefly emitting a bright green flash of light. Pulling a ritual dagger from her belt, the bog witch cut her hand and let thirteen drops of blood drip into the cauldron. She grabbed a flying bat and threw it into the soup. Then she pulled her left eye out of her skull with a smacking noise and dropped it into the cauldron. The mothersoup began to bubble again and and a strange creature flew out of it. It had the body of a bat, but instead of a snout, one large eye looked down where its face should be. It settled on her bleeding hand
>"I call you the Umpish.
>You and your siblings shall be my eyes from now on!
>Fly and establish my dominion over this realm."
At those words were uttered and the creature flew away, a murmur went through the ranks of boglins, ogres and bog dwellers who stood there and watched. Suddenly, a swarm of one-eyed bat creatures rose from the black cauldron and rushed into all directions of the foggy swamp like a black cloud gone berserk.

>LOREDUMP DOMINION OF THE BOG WITCH
This shouldn't be the last creation that crawled out of the mother soup to help the bog witch establish her rule over the region. Various creatures of the most different forms of existence, as well as human corpse parts where put into the soup in the following years. This time became known as the Sulfur Period due to the stinking green fumes that wafted all over the swamp during it. The cells of the living and dead ingredients countelessly dissolved with repeated boiling and rejoiced in a different combination. Over and over again. Her next creation should be the inky black pitchcutterlings, which helped her to gain great economic success. Many more came after them. These hybrid alchemical creatures created by the witch went on to be called Umuncles. From now on many different grotesque umuncels roamed the swamps as overseers, spies, laborers and guards, devoted to the bog witch with every cell of their being and blindly obedient. The Umuncel turned out to be a simple-minded race but were perfectly suited for serving as minions. Besides, Boglins and Swamogres they formed the main part of the entourage and secret armies of the old bog witch from this point onwards.

>LOREDUMP DOMINION OF THE BOG WITCH
In honor of their "mother" the umuncles built a terrifying subterranean kingdom called Ulgurmorgh in the former dripping caverns of the Moldlings. Since it's completion day the bog witch resides in this Underbog and rules over her dominion from the shadows, bearing offspring and plotting her sinister plans. With a few exceptions, such as the Umpishs and the Peat-Cuttelings, the Umuncles nowadays prefer to dwell together with their creator in the damp caves of the underbog. There they form a quasi-lawless subclass and serve as executive branch. They can be quickly mass produced in large numbers. Her thirteen daughters assist the old Bog witch in managing the above-ground politics of the swamps, effectively taking the role of generals. Probably the greatest feat of the bog witch was effectively seizing power over the bogs without a single foreign nation noticing it. It was only thousands of years later, with the great uprising of the remaining Green Swamp Ogres, that the surrounding realms gained knowledge about her rise, whereas before they had only seen the bogs as an inhospitable, dangerous and ungovernable thicket and avoided entering it at all costs. The public eye noticing her reign enraged the bog witch and fueled her hatred for the swamp ogres, which she ruled and punished with a particularly severe hand from there on. Nevertheless, very few foreigners know of her subterranean kingdom called Ulgurmorgh to this day. Those who do know about the Underbog, don't know where it's entrance is. It is speculated that one might be somewhere in the sulfur swamps while another rumor has it that it might be located in the Dunlog sewerage. The witch's minions make short work of anyone looking for it an are deliberately spreading false rumors about the alleged entrance on her command. Until this day no stranger has ever seen the old Bog witch with his own eyes and lived

I changed the dates to add enough space to fit the lore. With current year being 3.161 we have plenty of space to add a lot of stuff and not be cramped. This way we can see periods of great change in relatively short timespans and periods of mostly calm in the world. Also because if we're going to make the Battle of Empires the Year 1 of the setting, there's no way to fit all that without it being quite far in the past.

Interesting, I had missed that. Thanks.

>Geography

The Aurous Highlands are known for their rugged hills, rolling plains, fertile fields, and broadleaf forests. The land contains lakes and rivers, and the hills conceal systems of caves and caverns. The southern and western portion of the realm is more mountainous, while the nearer one gets to the coast the flatter the land gets. Full of hills and crags, the land is dotted with mines from which gold and silver pour in astonishing quantities.

>Economy

Gold makes up the main export and the foundation of the Aurian economy. The Aurous Highlands are not the largest, most populous, or most fertile part of northern Scimitaria, but they are the richest. Besides goldwork, goldsmithing and silversmithing, there is also fishery on the northern coast, as well as some farming along the highlands. Spiced honey wine wine is a popular product of Sandersport, and many varieties of goat milk and butter are produced in many mountain villages.

>Religion

The most common religion practiced by the people of the Aurous Highlands, Belsiyra and the Blesire States is the worship of the Nine Saints. The faithful of the Nine Saints believe that a single God, who has a million names and a million forms, reigns over the world of the mortal via his eight servants, mortals who were ascended into sainthood.

The pantheon of the Nine Saints is as follows:

Julienn, holy patron of stonemasons and smiths.

Melitele, holy patron of childbirth and mercy.

Alara, holy patron of justice. The same figure stands as a prophet in the New Azan Faith, and is one of many instances where the Azan Faith has influenced the local religion.

Zana, holy patron of fertility and love.

Zeke, holy patron of warriors.

Brezne, holy patron of sailors and fishermen.

Atman, holy patron of miners.

Nealan, holy patron of health and disease.

Liandry, holy patron of death and the underworld.
>>
>>85500947
I don't think we should retcons dates for the sake of spacing stuff out. We can add new things if needed. There are plenty of interactions we could do between the Azan/Dragon Empires, the Khenomeric Empire, and the elves/fey that could happen between the Battle of Empires and roughly 1000 years ago when a lot of other stuff starts happening.

>>85500947
Dragon lore is vague and disconnected. We seem to have several different species of dragon that aren't really related. The important ones are all semi-divine though, so probably the last unhatched egg is also semi-divine

The Faith of the Nine Saints have many religious centres throughout the region of Greater Belsirya. Depending on the patron saint, one can find places of worships in many different places.

Small temples built in honor of Atman and Julienn are usually found near mines and quarries, respectively. Temples of Melitele and Nealan train their priests in midwifery and healing, respectively. Many ships carry small shrines where sailors pray to Brezne for winds of fortune. Followers of Liandry are are tasked with preparing the deceased for the grave, as well as burying them. They dress in black robes, their faces hooded and shawled so only their eyes remain visible.

The Royal Justiciar and the Royal Executioner carry out their actions in the name of Alara. Inside the barracks of the city watch one can find shrines dedicated to Alara and Zeke. Zana is popular amongst women, and love potions are known to be brewed inside her temples.

>Azan Faith

A variant of the New Azan Faith is also present in the Aurous Highlands, where many sun symbols are used. The worship of Bronzar is sometimes combined with that of Atman and Julienn, with miners and masons often considering the aspect of one god. There is also a dichotomy between the faiths of Azan and that of the Nine Saints, as Alara is a prophet in the former, while in the latter she's considered a saint.

Most of the New Azan faithful are found in the city of Sanderport.

>Irem

The southeast of the Lordship is home to a community of reclusive villages, which were built by refugees from Bumi. These refugees are followers of the moon goddess Irem and were forced to flee their homeland after being prosecuted for their beliefs by the Church of Mg'umba.

The so-called Chanterelle Hohlway runs through the Fungest as a central trade route for rare mushrooms. It is named like that because the path has carved into the surrounding terrain through centuries of use by carts and cattle, as well as stormwater runoff. Especially in autumn you can see horse-drawn carriages loaded with huge edible mushrooms rolling through the area.

>Demographics

Humans make up the majority of the population. Most are of Blesiryan stock, with a few Calcabrans immigrating during the gold rush of the Aurous Highlands, now having fully integrated with the natives. A community of Bumians live in the southwest, while many merchants and fishermen from Chrysovica are found on the northern coast towns.

Non humans are relatively rare in the Aurous Highlands. Sea Elves can occasionally be found on the coast, trading with the locals. Some Mountain Hobbits traversed the Calcabran Mountains, reaching the other side in order to partake in the gold rush. Their descendants can be found scattered around the many mining communities.

>Foreign Relations

Blesire States - The Aurous Highlands mantain good relations with the Blesire States, of which they used to be part of. They share religious belief and cultural habits. The various Blesire nobles are still bitter about the fact that they weren't able to take control of the gold mines, and are constantly trying to scheme their way into the court of Ashmark. Both countries have vowed to defend eachother in case of any Blesiryan aggression.

>Grand Duchy of Calcabra

There is a feeling of comradery between these nations, ever since their joint war of independence against the Drow. Still, the Calcabrans have influence in the Aurous Highlands and are constantly trying to benefit from their mineral wealth.

Drow City States - Although interactions between the two are almost non existant nowadays, there is still mutual dislike between each other that hails from the northern Scimitarian wars. Every state of former Blesirya has vowed to help Calcabra defend their borders in the case of a defensive war.

Bumi and Arangea - Although trade is rare with these nations, they have also developed a defensive pact against the Drow.

Isle of Wizards - The Wizards have often lended millitary assistance against the Drow to the Calcabran and Blesiryan states in the form of amazon warriors and lesser magic orders. Relations between the two nations are cordial, although the Wizards only respect those with magical abillity.

Earldom of Chrysovica and Sea Elven Domains - Trade is very common between these nations, with the city of Sanderport being a common meeting ground for their merchants. Even though the Sea Elves once conquered the far northeastern portion of Scimitaria from the humans who once lived there, their relations haven't soured at all. That's because these wars of conquest were over a millenia ago, after the break-up of the Azan Empire, and because the Sea Elves - unlike their Drow cousins - treated the humans with respect and integrated them into their society, giving them positions of power. Sometimes, whenever a mine dries out, the workers there are forced to sail off to Chrysovica in search of better fortunes.

Mountain Hobbit Clans - Sometimes merchants of both nations will take the long road that leads back and forth into the Calcabran mountains to trade milk, meat, butter, furs and ore. Relations between the two are cordial, and the Aurous Highlanders sympathize with the Hobbit struggle against the Drow.

South Belsirya - South Belsirya is hostile against the Blesire States and the Aurous Highlands, seeing them as breakaway states. They prefer to trade with Chrysovica and Calcabra instead. Even though the Highlanders see the House of Platret as tyrannical oppressors who look to drain them of all their resources. Despite that, South Belsirya has yet to act on their threats of reconquering their former territories.

>Marsh Hydra

The Marsh hydra is a large reptilian creature with a stocky body, slimy scaled skin and multiple heads on long, serpentine necks. If one of it's heads is severed, two more heads will emerge from the fresh wound. The only way to kill a Marsh Hydra is to jab a spear into its soft belly, damaging vital organs or ideally its heart. The number of heads gives an indication of how aggressive or how old a hydra might be. The bite of a Marsh Hydra is extremely venomous and deadly if not treated with an appropriate antivenom within an hour. The marsh hydra is amphibious, feeding on both fish and large land creatures. She is occupying an aphex predator position in the swamp food-chain. Aside from the humanoid swamp critters, only Swamp Serpents, Marshstalkers and Lacrymose Leeches pose a serious threat to her. She is immune to nearly all poisons found in the Bogs. A universal antidote can be made from her gallbladder.

Depends how complicated you want to make it. Many ethnocultural groups are limited to just one nation. But we are getting closer to the point where we can lump some of the human nations into broad racial groups. Zemylanders for example are found in Gold, Silver, Platinum, Rust, Copper, Crimson, and Kentgorord, but they also belong to the larger "Northman" racial group which also includes parts of Small Giantstep, Elanxa, and Seagard.

>>85502113
Be careful with religious maps. They created a skub storm on a previous setting when someone used one to retcon regions he didn't like. Also lots of regions still have near zero lore, so you may discourage future writers by filling in too much detail ahead of time.

Original lore put it somewhere in the 1000-2000 years ago range. Probably could have begun earlier though since some people wanted at least one iteration of the Elvish Empire involved in the Battle of Empires.

>flexibility for new lore
Creating the timeline is already reducing writer's future flexibility considerably. Also, like >>85502746 says, the further back an event is, the less likely it is to matter in the present. Azan/Dragon reached its peak 1000 years ago, Khenomeric Empire reached its peak likely around the time of the Battle of Empires, Elven Empire somewhere in between. For many nations, that may be as far back as some want to go.

Hello frens, I am back. The two ancients things I know of that I don't see on the timeline are the fall of the Tolbari of the Ogabo desert(I believe it's still not known what they used to be called before the decline?) and the the extermination of nearly all life in Khelek. I'd imagine that the Ancient Tolbari would have fallen around 1500 BBE.

As for the frostlands of Khelek, their story is so old that the original kingdom from before the decimation fell in around 6839 BBE? The wiki states that the date may need to be changed.
I think 3729 would work as the date for the fall of the Kingdom of Khelek.

Now I wonder, should it be recorded when the ancient arcane wonders of the Tolbari were made and destroyed?

It is possible the sandstorm tunnels were made between the years of 2134 and 2072 BBE.

Religion addition:
Before the decimation, the people of the kingdom of Khelek(now that I think about it, it's practically a miracle the name survived perfectly without any written history of it… I'm sure we can come up with a reason.) Worshipped three gods. The first was ILEN, bringer of good fortune and great harvests. The second was TOEK the Raveous, who ever steals from ILEN. The third and least worshipped was SENAK, who hides that which was lost and finds what is unknown.
It was once said by awed pilgrims that in the caverns beneath the isle of cold(once known as the isle of moonlight) a traveler, if their soul shined brightly, could hear and see a fraction of the innumerable mysteries and endless insights of SENAK. But those who lost the way in the depths would lose much, much more.
>>
>>85506272
Yes, the Grundiddy-i Gromplos anti is annoying, but giving him attention doesn't help.
>>
>>85506318
Now, that's not to say that ILEN and TOEK did not have their sacred places. The great stone that still stands amidst the ruin once granted good health to those of great faith, but ILEN's light faded long ago.

No records survive of TOEK's deeds or holy places, but TOEK clearly was not only known as the ravenous, for it is depicted in the surviving record as being a creature made entirely of blood, likely retaining a semblance of shape and solidity through arcane means.

>Khenomeric Empire (historic nation)

The Khenomeric Empire has its origins in the prairies, jungles, and badlands of the southeast. After ages of fighting, an alliance of coastal cities and inland horse nomads formed an alliance and began expanding northwards, conquering people as they went.

This alliance would have likely collapsed in due time if it weren’t for the fact that the scholars of this newly formed empire managed to wrestle away some of the secrets of magic from the innately magical fey they encountered in the forests and plains of the northern half of the eastern segment of the continent. They thus became the first human nation to develop magic as a set of academic theories that could be taught in mass to those with some innate magical potential (though this has been disputed, as some now lost isolationist human nations potentially had magic of this kind for longer).

Four schools of magic developed, each informed by traditions taken from the fey. Green Plant magic worked by bolstering and guiding the life energies of plants. It had a number of interesting uses including boasting crop yields, creating magical defences, and summoning plant based guardians. Black Necromancy worked by harnessing the negative energies of the world to wither or boaster the living, or animate the dead or inanimate objects. Light Astromancy involved understanding the metaphysical nature of the universe and occasionally manipulating it. Gold Divimancy was the rarest and quickly became exclusive to the Royal Family itself.
>>
>>85506802

The different schools of magic quickly became rivals and secretive of each other. As they learned each others techniques and new techniques from other magical traditions, the schools of magic became more about ideology than hard distinctions between types of magic. The Order of Harmony (aka Green Order) became more interested in communing with nature and protecting the “Natural Order”. The Order of Necromancer (aka Black Order) became more interested in power at all costs, and quickly became feared for their immortality. The Order of Astromancers (aka Light Order) became more interested in obscure theories than practical uses for their magic. And the Royal Family used their magic to hold the factions of the Empire together.

Despite the growing schisms, the Empire continued to expand. It followed a simple philosophy. Join us and get access to magic, trade routes, and a future share of battlefield spoils, defy us and get raided and sacked. This worked for a time, but the diverse nature of Khermeric culture made assimilation difficult. Aside from the growing rivalries between the schools of magic, the Empire also lacked a central religion (the many fingers of one hand philosophy), and attempts at making a shared culture only resulted in an odd fusion of south coast and horse nomad traditions that only those closest to the Pharahkhan bought into. After a while, only the well organized military, the ambitious rivalry between the Orders of Necromancers and Astromancers, and the divination powers of the Pharahkhan held the empire together.

Despite this, at its peak, the Empire controlled much of the eastern half of the continent, though some were more willing than others.
>>
>>85506814

The core of the Empire were the “South Coast Khenomerics” who lived along the coast of the Carsibi Sea, the “Interior Horse Nomads”, a collection of several cultures in the plains and badlands of the central continent, and the “Pyramid-Builders” who were a fusion of the two peoples who lived in the capital, in the regions of overlap, or holy cities and tomb complexes dedicated to a present or past Pharahkhan’s personal faith. A few smaller regions also saw themselves as founding members.

Among the many vassals, conquests, and reluctant members were the Northmen nations along the northeast coast, and the fey fiefdoms scattered across the much of the continent.

Other regions remained separate, like the Merfolk Empire, protected at the time by powerful divine magic.

The Khenomeric went into decline for a number of reasons. The Royal Family lost its Divimancy magic for unknown reasons, thus costing them much of their strategic ability. The lack of new conquests and war spoils, and the increasing reluctance of the mages to share their magic meant that the Pharahkhan’s had little to offer their most ambitious subjects other than fear to keep them in line, and the ejection of many of the more moral members from the Magic Orders caused those that were left to launch a de facto coup and later start their own religion.

The so called Magoclergy brought some stability and strength back to the Empire, but only through sheer brutality. The Magoclergy consisted mostly of the Black Order, plus some of the remaining members of the Green Order who also dabbled in types of necromancy, some members of the Light Order (who defied ancient edicts to combine Arcanium with stellar energies to create many potent magic devices, including massive armies of magic constructs) and certain ambitious priests of existing faiths. Their sheer power was almost unparalleled in history, but devastating losses at the Battle of Empires greatly weakened them.
>>
>>85506850

The actions of the Magoclergy during the Battle of Empires causes Pharahkhan Kleo II Pater to led a revolt against the Magoclergy, with the help of some of the more ethical mages previously expelled from their Orders during the creation of the Magoclergy. However, his son decides to purge all mages from the Empire completely. The losses from the civil war between Kleo II and the Magoclergy, combined with the losses from the Battle of Empires, and the complete ban of magic from the remaining loyal areas of the Empire are more than enough to cripple it. Most of the vassals, and even some of the longest standing members of the Empire revolt following these events, and some of the nomadic horse tribes suffer such high losses their territories are simply abandoned to primitive races like gnolls and ogres. Other areas remained loyal to the Pharahkhan in name only, and openly defied their edicts, particularly the ban on magic.

By the time the gnolls finally destroyed the remnants of the Khermeric Empire, it had long been reduced to a weak rump state, considered minor even by some of its former vassals.

I imagine the conflict between the Azan/Dragon Empire and the Khenomeric Empire was all about magic use. Maybe the dragons and the Azanese royal family saw the use of magic as unnatural or inherently corrupting to the world or themselves. And the Khenomeri saw the Dragons (and the Azanese by extension) as tyranical influences for humanity, halting them from reaching their full potential.

That an both being big, expanding empires compeeting for space. Thucydides' Trapand all.

So the Zemyland stays pretty much isolated from the rest of the world until Greater Elanxa fractures and the refugees conquer the north?
We have to take into account the Arkadiya Empire (see Platinum Princedom wiki), so it would have to be something like this:

>Old Hyperborea and the Snow Elves live peacefully in Zemyland
>Greater Elanxa collapses due to the earthquake and the societal collapse that followed, massive migrations to the north.
>The elanxans conquer a good portion of Zemyland and create the Arkadiya Empire and the Kingdom of Gold, war between the Arkadiyans and Goldians vs Snow Elves and Hyperboreans.
>Arkadiyan Empire falls and disintegrates into the Platinum Princedom and the Kingdom of Silver, but war against the Hyperboreans continue.
>Fall of Old Hyperborea and migration to the Alltarfs to the north.

Something like this? I have to fit the lore of all of the kingdoms, so I have to extrapolate a lot.

>Bog Fairies

Bog Fairies are flying animalistic pranksters who take pleasure in attacking humans in swarms and gouging out their eyes with small sticks to which they tie poisonous thorns. Even the not-so-malicious ones love to fly close by around people's ears and drive them insane with the loud humming noise of their wings. The bite of a Bog Fayrie is comparable to a particularly bad mosquito bite. At first you only feel a small sting since the teeth of the Fairies contain a numbing secretion, after a few days though the area starts to itch like hell and only swells off again after two weeks. If you scratch it, you run the risk of causing inflammation at best and necrosis at worst. The nests of the Bog Faries, who do not agree at all with being limited to the fairy kingdom as a home, look like grotesque gray hornet burrows with brown slime dripping out off them. They vary greatly in size. The smallest nests are about the size of a crystal ball and contain 2-3 fairies, the largest ones can stretch like horizontal gray termite mounds over several treetops and contain thousands of fairies, effectively functioning as metropolises to them.
The brown slime found in and dripping from the nests is what is known as "fairy honey," which is actually the sticky excretions of the Bog Fairies. They give to their larvae-like offspring for food and use it to glue and build their nests. It has a foul, sweet odor, and tastes similiar to ordinary honey, only way mustier. It is extremely nutritious, however consumption can induce vivid hallucinations, seeing invisible things and nausea. Fairy Honey is an important ingredient in the production of Brown Opium, along with the never-blooming Sedge Poppies and Foulsoil. As in invasive species the Bog Fairies, despite many predators and poaching for their honey, have spread throughout much of the swamp, arguably due to their low-threshold swarm intelligence and cunningness.

>>First Biblion dwarf settlements are found
Source? I have little historical lore about Biblion.
Also, the Arkadiya Empire only appears once in the lore for the Platinum strait, so I have to assume it's one of the countries formed after the Greater Elanxa collapse and its evolution into three countries: Arkadiya, the Elanxan Empire and the Kingdom of Gold.

And yes, the collapse of Greater Elanxa somehow increased its successors' borders. I can't do anything about it unless Greater Elanxa had lands in Zemyland to begin with, which is the reason why I chose to write it like that at first.

The fine glittering dust falling off their wings is a coveted ingredient in levitation potions and will temporarily reduce the weight of any object sprinkled with it. Bog Fairies feed primarily on the nectar of various swamp flowers, which has led them to play a vital role in swamps ecosystem. They unwittingly fertilize the various bog flora they land on and disperse their seeds and pollen across the region. They only rarely eat meat. If they do, then in the form of smaller insects or large creatures, which they hunt down as a collective. The maximum size of their prey depends entirely on the numbers of the swarm. Bog faries are able to navigate through the air with hundreds of wing beats per second. Making them three times faster than a housefly and way more agile than a serpentfly. However, if you manage to hit them anyway, they can be crushed with a spirited swipe of a flat hand.

I'm pretty sure that the guy who wrote the Biblion stuff also mentioned that it was built long ago by dwarves that went extinct/disappeared. When writing about some stuff in Zemyland I always did so assuming Biblion was atleast as ancient as the Nerim/Rognarey.

The collapse of Greater Elanxa could lead to people fleeing north. I have no idea about its borders but it could include large parts of Smallstep, which would concide well with the migrating human populations mentioned in the Avangar lore

The Pale One also called Mordarey by the Swamp dwellers is the speculated king of the Bog Fey and existed since the creation of this world. Rumor has it that the Old Bog Witch arose from a sexual union between him and the goddess Murga. Murga being the ancient goddess of witchcraft, night and toads. She has been given many names and is also referred to as Hekatarina, Uun or Jesmeralda by other cultures of the continent.
The Pale one can take many forms and has otherworldly magical powers that are in no way inferior to those of a god. For reasons largely unknown to the swamp dwellers, however, he has largely withdrawn from the Bog into his dark Fairie Realm since the old Bog witch seized power. His silent retreat happened around the time she created the first Umcuncle from the black cauldron. Very few individuals claim to have glimpsed him ever since. Those who do say he appeared in the form of a huge, pale, faceless being crawling through the nightly morass like a giant spider. There are still some secret cults in the swamps that silently worship him, giving offerings and sacrifices but these have been strictly forbidden by the bog witch. To be caught in the swamps with one of his symbols or talismans is to suffer the most horrid and painful death imaginable. The old tales say he was an even darker ruler than the old bog witch. Few dare to speak his real name in the swamps, and should one be caught doing so by one of the wizches scouts, he will never see the light of day again. He will be carried off into the dark, damp prison dungeons that lie beneath Ulgurmorgh to rot there for eternity.

>Teetheater worms
The teetheater worms are an species of insect that proliferates in the densest and most humid parts of the bog. The term teetheater worms include a variety of different kinds of worms, all having in common their diet of teeth. The methods they have to digesting their prey vary, from spewing bone melting acid to creating small jaws of their own, they require a constant diet of calcium to sustain themselves, though they seem to have a preference for teeth. While mostly carcass eaters, they have been known to consume living prey. They will come out of the ground if they detect that a big enough prey is somewhat stuck in the mud and the muck of the bogs, and in their thousands they will start digging in to reach the bones of their prey, racing towards the mouth of their victims to consume the precious teeth. Many of their targets will die of axphixiation, since so many worms end up clogging their respiratory system.

She is the current ruler of the Bog Fey in the mundane world and is authorized to command them at will, although she rarely ever uses this authority.

A giant toads' thick leathery hide can be used to make a strong water-repellent armor, which is very popular with the marsh dwellers. Especially the swamp ogres like to wear this unadorned utility clothing appropriately referred to as "Toadskin". The iconic piece of armor is a simple but effective leather jerkin reinforced with rivets. A well-crafted Toadskin can fetch a good price on the bog market.

Äelar'Ra government: While nominally still a province of Azan, Äelar'Ra is in reality self governing, though barely organized as a state. Its central authority, based in the city of Äelar'Ra consists of two councils, the Heptarchy and the Low Council. The Heptarchy is the result of desperation and bitter compromise. After the Greyhammer revolt, a failed slave rebellion in the Witchelf empire was brutally crush, thousands of slaves escaped the chaos to Äelar, an area already hosting refugees from the empire, including a number of lower class elves, escaped after the many timesthe demonic breaches widened into their homes. When the masses of new people arrived, the attempt by tiny group of local bureaucrats and Azanese local garrison to keep the order collapsed completely. To reorganize the area, the idea for a group of councillors to take charge was made in a rush. While the human majority wanted complete control, the elf population protested. While severely outnumbered, they had one thing the humans did not, money, resources and weapons taken with them from their homeland. At this time there were rumours of both the noble elves plotting to take power and reenslave the populace, and of radical humans readying for the eradication of elves from the area. Cooler heads, backed by overworked Azanese garrison drafted a charter of organisation for a council of seven, with elves and men having equal say, in the council, with a seventh spot as a tie breaker. Thus the Heptarchy was born.

The Heptarchy consists of 7 High councillors, five witch elves, five human and one of another race, usually half-elf or dwarven. The High councillors rule for life, and new members are elected by the rest of the council. They have the authority to decide matters of military, infrastructure, taxation and serve as judges in high level disputes and cases of serious crime. If the High Council wish to act on matters outside of this authority they have to have the permission of the Low Council.
>>
>>85510247
The Low Council is a group of 47 men, chosen from the populace, serving in terms of 7 years. The Low council was formed 15 years after the Heptarchy for two reasons. Firstly, the human majority had begun to yet again criticize the elven overrepresentation in the Heptarchy. Secondly, there was uncertainty about what the High Councillors could do on matters requiring powers not explicitly stated in the original charter. Crucually they could not deal with religious matters, decide foreign policy, nor change the laws which still came from the old Azanese legal code. To deal with these issues the Heptarchy allowed the populace to present 80 candidates for a place in the low council of which the Heptarchs chose 43 to be suitable for the position. Later 4 seats were added, while the number of candidates from the people shrunken to 70, somewhat lessening the power of the Heptarchy. The Low Councillors meet once a week on a field near the shore of lake Äelar, debating cases and requests sent to them by the Heotarchy, recently there has been built a simple roofed structure with seats on the spot. The council quickly decended into factionalism, as different councillors have quite different views on what should be done.
>>
>>85510348
The largest factions are as follows: The Frogs - the Frogs are those sitting closest to the lake shore, being the most radical anti-witchelf faction. They wish for a formally independent Äelar, and for a total war against the witchelves to tear down the entire empire. The Flies - The flies is a group of both elves and men, wanting an isolationist Äelar'Ra. While open to formalIndependence from Azan, they are more concerned with keeping the state safe from any outside invader, and to build up local wealth.
The Snakes - the snakes consists of elves and the more wealthy of the humans wanting to focus on trade and diplomacy with the smaller nations around Äelar, they are lenient on corruption laws, being seen as a tool for the rich, yet their ideals of trade could secure future stability and wealth.
The Birds - The pro-Azan faction, consisting of the native Azanese of the area, intellectuals and religious people following the Azan faith. These want to strengthen ties to the empire, and wish for them to help build a proper local army capable of defending against, and maybe one day even defeating the witchelves.

A remnant of the old days, the captain-governor of Äelar is mostly a ceremonial role. While having no powers, the governor technically is the highest authority of the province, and is the captain of the Azanese local guard. Thereby the governor is in partial control of the closest thing Äelar'Ra has to a professional armed force.

The rest of the Äelar military comes from a semi-trained militia of archers and light infantry, as well as a small contingent of elven militia cavalry and skirmishers.

Ingurland, home of the orcs, is a wild and savage place. Long having been home to a myriad of feuding orcish clans, the area is known in the orcish tongue as "The North" leading to speculation that the first orcs must have traveled from the south, with theories stemming from them being thrown out of what is today known as the Knightlands, to having sailed on primitive rafts from the maneater islands or the Zulutaur steppe, or even that the first orcs stem from Lesandros, but this is merely speculation.

The reason for the name Ingurland stems from the founder of the nation Ingur Ironleg. For a long time the orcish tribes had lived of the land by hunting primitive farming and raiding, both amongst themselves and human settlements. The humans of Lorient and the Lemon kingdom began to tire of the constant raids, and started to muster mercenary soldiers and adventuring knights to end the orcish threat, wishing to expel them from the lands. Wanting to unite the tribes to fight of the humans and acquire more loot, Ingur invented a way for the clans to fight each other with less violence, a brutal sport of kicking a pig leather ball over a field while fistfighting the rival clan. The losing team would be forced to murder their leader. A remarkably violent sport, yet to the orcs, going from clan conflicts with 70% casualties to games with 40% was a revolution. The winner of this competition would be crowned king of all Orcs in the House of Shouting, and could rule until the next competition. Ingur and his clan would win the first "election" and he would lead the orcs in the first great raids beyond the border towns into the region of Lorient known as Gasquinais, which would be annexed by a future king.

Notable clans are Ingurs own Crimson Devil Clan, the Rockhurler Clan, the Angry Lion Clan, the Flying Gull Clan, the Sky Can and the Black Wolf clan. Each clan fields between a large band to a small army of orcs, equipped with crude weapons.

>Cheebrah
The Cheebrah is an elusive creature in the Strange Meadows. A very shy herbivore , they live in isolation and very far apart from each other. They are extraordinarily fast creatures, able to escape pretty much every predator in the region. However, due to their extreme isolated nature, the chances of one to reproduce are quite rare, and thus the population of Cheebrahs is much lower than one would expect. Due to the beauty and immense value of their fur, it is wildly chased after prey for hunters in the region. Many have also tried to domesticate them, with no success.

Batorpions are small critters that hunt small prey during the night. They are blind, but have an incredible hearing, and they will detect the smallest vibrations. However, they are not particularly fast, and thus they will sleep during the day, diggind themselves into the ground until nighttime arrives.

>Republic of Anchovia

>History

Anchovia has been inhabited atleast since 3500 years ago, making it one of the oldest, if not the oldest cities in the far eastern coast of Giantstep. Anchovia - or Ellesis, as it was known millenia ago - assumed increased importance because of its three deep-water harbours.

The people of Anchovia were always a seafaring folk, and even 2 millenia ago their thalassocracy was the most dominant sea nation of the time, founding many settlements in what are now the nations Luden, Kokaine, Seagard and the eastern coast of Elanxa.

However, Anchovia's status gradually lessened over the centuries. This was due to the appearance of several nations such as the Merfolk Empire, Luden, Elanxa and especially Drunigzar. These realms provided fierce competition to Anchovia, and their fishing activities were restricted to their own waters. After many wars with their neighbors, Anchovia lost control of most of their coastal settlements, reducing themselves to a rump.

Despite the eventual shattering of the Merfolk Empire and Greater Elanxa, Anchovia was been left too far behind of their rivals in order to make a comeback. Their people were poor, their exports were limited and most of the wealth had been accumulated to a few merchant families.

Even more centuries passed, and a worse problem surfaced for Anchovia. The waters around the port of Anchovia became poorer and poorer in fish. Their ships had to travel longer distances in order to provide the citizens with food, and the fish they brought back were of worse quality and tainted by the waters of the rising rat nation of Luden. As Luden's industry grew, their waters turned even more toxic. Even though the ratfolk of Luden were somewhat immune to the waste, the humans of Anchovia were not.

As a consequence, these poor people gradually developed an unnatural appearance, with bulging, unblinking, watery eyes, features that haunt them to this day, earning them the nickname "Anchovy Folk".

Ok, so this order of events would make more sense? I still lack a lot of info, but if we assume that the epicenter of change is the earthquake in Greater Elanxa and that neither it nor the Khenomeri had colonies in Zemyland (even though the Kingdom of Copper lore states otherwise https://crumbling-giantstep.fandom.com/wiki/Kingdom_of_Copper), in theory this should be it. If there's something in need to change, please let me know.
>>
Which are the threads that have the tale of Bobbit? I want to add them to the wiki.
>>
>>85513804
The name of Ellesis was quickly forgotten, and the city of the Anchovy Folk was slowly being called "Anchovy" by its neighbors, over time being adopted by the anchovy folk themselves.

Nowadays, Anchovia is no more wealthy than they were a thousand years ago, their people wallowing in their misery as they go on about their everyday lives.

>Government

Anchovia is a republic that's being governed by an Archon. The Archon is elected every two years by an assembly which consists of the city's merchant elite. The current Archon is Arnes Karri, a merchant that imports oils from Seagard and Luden.

However, the true power behind Anchovia's government lies on a singular man, Noorwan Engel. Noorwan is a morbidly obese merchant with a thick beard who hails from the richest family of Anchovia. The majority of the country's merchant fleet belongs to him, and he owns many enterprises in Luden, Elanxa, Seagard and Leng.

Noorwan Engel's most profitable business ventures are found in the narcotics market. He was the first person to bring the "White Death", which originates in the Hydra's Eyes labs in Moreelse, to the eastern nations through a sea route in the northern seas. He also trades in the "Devil's Poppy", an opioid that's exclusively found in the Elyrian Marshes. This opioid is then refined into a substance that's extremely deadly - but also very addicting. The network he has extends into Luden, Elanxa, Grobianismus and even the domain of the Blind Bastard.

The immense amounts of wealth he has amassed has helped Noorwan buy off almost every official and nobleman in Anchovia and even beyond the borders of the country. He is the de facto ruler of Anchovia, and the action of every Archon for the past 12 years passes through his judgement first.
>>
>>85514210
>People

The poor folk of Anchovia are known as "Anchovy" or "Fish folk" by foreigners, thanks to their deformed and malnourished features. They are known as a miserable and xenophobic bunch, often blaming the people of Drunigzar, Leng and Seagard for their misfortunes, a mentality that has grown firmer by the passage of time. The Anchovies hold an impervious love for Lord Engel, since a large amount of the city's men are under his employee. Not only that, but his charities have helped set up many schools for orphaned children, as well as feeding the poor and the homeless.

What the people of Anchovia fail to realise is that by buying out most of the competition, Lord Noorwan Engel can afford to pay his workers next to nothing for their services, turning them into voluntary serfs, but still managing to keep them content.

The Anchovies have been dockworkers, shipbuilders and fishermen for as long as the city has existed, with even their women indulging in these professions from time to time. Apart from that, some Anchovies work in the mines, fields or vineyards further inland. These people are called "green men" by the people of the city, who make up around 80% of the total population.

>City

Anchovia - or Ellesis, as it was known in the past - was once a beautiful, coastal city where even in the bleakest of hours one could find many merchants and stands scattered around the harbors. Even though most of its ancient, decorated buildings still stand to this day, the streets are littered with dirt, the houses are slowly collapsing and every corner smells of fish. Not only that, but the White Death has found its way to the underworld of Anchovia, where it has grown sturdy roots. The sight of addicts aimlessly roaming the streets in search of more powder is not uncommon.

The City Watch and the coastal guard are corrupt, with very few people challenging the authority of Lord Engel.
>>
>>85514416
under his employment*

The only other settlements that can be found in Anchovia are small villages which specialize in farming or mining. The city of Othen used to be the second biggest town in Anchovia back in Antiquity, being the birthplace of many important architects and artists in the country's history. However, it was conquered by the Merfolk Empire many ages ago, and its tale is now all but forgotten by the Anchovies.

All the Zemylander nations were colonized by Greater Elanxa, whatever caused people to flee wasn't enough to destroy Greater Elanxa (it would only break apart after the colonies were well established after the earthquake destroyed its capital and killed off most of the old ruling class). "Fled" probably shouldn't be taken too literally anyways. The initial colonies were likely well organized commercial ventures with state backing, but a need to resettle population would have greatly increased the need for Greater Elanxa to take and hold territory.

Is the Avangar guy still around? I found it a bit odd that the Elyrians once lived as hunter-gatherers near the centre of Small Giantstep, and not even for very long either, but now make up the majority of the eastern part of the Small Giantstep (aside from the vassals). Did the Elyrians just genocide everyone else? Or was there no one living in northeastern part of Small Giantstep. It seems like it should be arable land, so some sort of curse on it may have pushed the folk formerly living there to seek lands elsewhere.

Deep in the caves of Amol-ban, Ealik Mel'iyaim melts away the frost that encases the… gate?
Ealik states the seven encantations with the utmost reverance, at least that which he can muster considering his weakened state.
The… gate? slowly opened, the crescent segments rotating along the edge of it as they withdrew, creating a spiral.

Walking through the ancient halls, Ealik is entirely unconcerned with the biting cold or the dryness of the air, for he no longer needs to fear for such things as sustenance of any kind but the sweet ambrosia that is the arcane energies of the soul. Soon, he would find just that.

Walking through the narrow passageways, Ealik knew that his unending hunger could soon be sated, if only for a while. He felt the apparition draw near, before it appeared from the ceiling of the tunnel, slashing downwards with a weapon of some sort(it's hard to see with only eyesockets!) not wholly of reality. Bending over backwards to avoid the spellblade he did not quite understand and tracing the runes upon the onyx, he began the soul drain. Now all he had to do was survive.

The onslaught of strikes came so quickly it seemed impossible there could be but one blade, but the shield in the apparitions hand clearly indicated otherwise. Before Ealik even had a moment in which to cast a hex of some kind, one strike, then two, then seven had struck his wards, sending him into a desperate retreat and ensuring he was severely lacking in energy to draw from.
But Ealik was no novice to combat, and after the swift strikes had ceased for a few scarce moments, he drew forth a cage in miniature, which quickly grew tenfold, both in his hands and as it flew through the air. While the guardian's blade may be quick, the guardian itself could not move any faster than what would normally be a walking pace. Not at all suited for combat against a foe without its back turned, was it?
And with the guardian trapped within the arcane cage, it could do little as it was slowly absorbed by the soul gem, and thus by Ealik.
With his need for souls fulfilled for now, the aspiring lich continued through the cave, for there was much more to Amol-ban than specters.
>>
>>85518001
The rest of the journey was nothing more than a simple maze, with the only guards in sight being a few stray bones! After arriving to the center of the tomb-vault, Ealik levitated through the ceiling to the chamber of emeralds.
Ealik spoke, with all the arrogance and malice one would expect from a monster such as he.
>"I have no time for your games, gem soul. You will give me what I have long sought, for this ruin cannot possibly secure the secrets of the watchman."

Ealik felt thoughts cast to his mind, but knew they could not get through his wards. Or rather, he thought he knew.

As the mental barrier broke, the entombed archpriest spoke, his voice fading in and out, as the sacred tides of the well of secrets they hid beneath.
"Halt, apprentice………You have not yet awoken the eight………. Have you so forgotten the ways of our people?"
Ealik spoke, with such smugness in his voice he sounded as if he had completed the ascension.
And so the archpriest listened.
>"Oh think not that I could ever forget your silly trials, remnant. I have the sapphire, and the eight stir from their slumber as we speak."

>"I will hear no deceptions, Ealik," Spoke the archpriest.
But Ealik was no liar.

I am the Avangar guy. I probably should have expanded upon this, but didn't since I had a lot to write in that time anyways.

I probably have mentioned it somewhere in the lore, but eastern Smallstep was occupied by people similar in appearance to the Elyrians, perhaps even with the same heritage. However, those lived in small communities and towns along the forests and arable grounds of eastern smallstep, so their culture was much different to the Elyrians. I guess the island people of Devon and Stor Kartoflu could be similar to them.
>>
>>85518978
Just checked, under the geography it says:

>On the far east of Smallstep there are hills that were populated by foreigners until the recent conquests, with now many Elyrians moving there, as many mines and ports have opened.

Obviously there isn't much information, but foreigners did exist. I probably should change "were" to "are" as I didn't plan for them to have been genocided or anything, just assimilated.

It could make sense. The Alltaf tribes separating from the Kingdom of Old Hyperborea could be as a result of them wanting to get away from the Zemylanders to the south

In my mind, the Zemylanders come from Greater Elanxa. Friction within the latter would cause people to migrate to the north, setting up everything else that's beem established. That friction could be the great earthquake that was mentioned before.
>>
An idea: does it not make sense the Khenomeric empire have emperor worship as part of their religion? The Khenomeric empire had divinomancy a special type if magic mainly used by the imperial family, and the loss of this was part of what started the magocracy.

Doing some comparison, this would explain the origins of the Elanxan faith, emperor worship and magic closely tied to the emperor. Further it might even serve as part of the origin or inspiration for the Changrilese faith of the divine light, being bastardized Old Azan faith combined with Khenomeric-style god emperors.

The earthquake caused Greater Elanxa to break apart, but the colonies were well established by this point. Unless someone has anything better, it was probably just overpopulation on substandard land that caused large numbers of people to move to the colonies. Most of Small Giantstep seems pretty lightly populated except Orange Maquisantes and maybe the Kingdom of Poker, and it is unclear if either of them were ever part of Greater Elanxa.

>Economy

Most of Anchovia's exports include wine, silver, steel and wheat, mostly produced from the mines, fields and vineyards to the north. However, these products are considered as low quality, cheaper alternatives than its Seagardian and Lengi equivalents. The lands around Anchovia are rich in forests so lumber is also a good that Anchovia trades in, being in demand particularly by other seafaring nations of Giantstep.

Since the waters around Anchovia are poor when it comes to fish, they often resort to either fishing in the seas near Luden, or trading in fish, walrus or whale meat with Seagard and Leng, although that's certainly not a budget option.

Most of the coin that flows through Anchovia does so through the narcotics network that Noorwan Engel has set up. Not only that, but many of the naval arsenals and shipyards in Port Laurel - traditionally the richest port of Anchovia - have been sold to businessmen from Drunigzar or Seagard. Despite all this seemingly newfound wealth, most of it ends up in the same pockets, and not in the common people's or the city's infastracture.

The city proper of Anchovia is built on top of three natural harbors that overlook the Blue Gulf. In Ancient times, most of the land that the city was built on was actually an island in the form of a thin strip during high tides. The island would be connected to the mainland whenever the tide receded.

Further inland, the land is more rocky, although some fields are found where wheat and other crops are being cultivated. The land near the border to the Khelek Frostlands are extremely cold and barren and very few people live there.

>Millitary

Two infantry legions are stationed along the borders with Drunigzar and the Merfolk Empire ruins, although no threat has come from either in a very, very long time, although it's a matter of superstition to the Anchovies. Ships of the Anchovian navy patrol the Blue Gulf in search of pirates and other hostile ships.

>how did the people of great elanxa migrate towards the north then if they were already there?
1) Initial colonies set up by Greater Elanxa were mostly for economic purposes
2) More people arrived from Greater Elanxa to these same colonies to escape overpopulation, causing them to expand
3) Greater Elanxa ruling class and capital city destroyed by earthquake/tsunami, Zemylander colonies become independent nations, rest of Greater Elanxa splits into many different nations
Wars with the snow elves and Hyperborea would have happened throughout these events

>Demographics

Most of the population in Anchovia are locals. The only residing foreigners are ambassadors from Leng, Seagard and Drunigzar, who can be distinguished easily thanks to their lack of the fish-like bulbous characteristics that the Anchovies are known for. There are virtually no non-humans in Anchovia.

>Foreign Relations

Drunigzar - The Anchovies are bitter towards the Drunigzari thanks to the latter's rapid expansion and colonization efforts. The two nations had clashed centuries ago. Drunigzar mantains an embassy in Anchovia, and they have established many trade houses in courtesy of Lord Noorwan Engel, near the Laurel Port.

Seagard - Seagard is another nation that the Anchovies hold contempt for, since alongside Drunigzar and Leng, it was Anchovia's main competitor after the Merfolk Empire collapsed. The Seagardians don't think much of the Anchovies, but they do let them fish in their tainted waters and hold leverage in trade between the two peoples.

Leng - Fairly common trading partner of Anchovia. The Lengi provide the Anchovies with whaling and walrus meat, furs, oils, and tusks. Interactions between Anchovia and Leng have led to the White Death spreading to the latter's ports.

Nogar - These two people had barely interacted throughout history, and those interactions came only after the exodus of the Nogarese to the east. The two nations did have a dispute over Nogarese fishing vessels in the Blue Gulf that eventually lead to the five days war. Nogar sent soldiers as a show of force as Drunig diplomats settled the dispute.

Ruins of the Merfolk Empire - The Merfolk Empire at its peak used to be the main rival of the thriving city of what used to be Ellesis. Nowadays, most of the lands of the former Empire are in ruins and haunted by monsters, and most of the Anchovies are superstitious about the ruins. They consider them a cursed place and therefore almost never set foot in there.
>>
>>85526776

Frostlands of Khelek - Trade between these nations was common in ancient times, back when Khelek was not a frozen wasteland. Nowadays, the Anchovies avoid these places as they are far colder than even the northern areas of Anchovia, and cold is something they despise. The few Anchovies that dared to venture in the Khelek Frostlands eventually became victims of the ice spirit Ulek-mol.

Elanxa, Avangar, Zemyland and beyond - Sometimes Anchovies in the employee of Lord Engel make these long voyages in order to partake in the perilous trade of the White Death and the Devil's Poppy, and some Anchovies that got to witness the beauty of these lands have managed to leave their misery behind and establish small coastal communities.

>Religion and Culture

In the times where both the Ellesis Thalassocracy and the Merfolk Empire were at their peak, the Anchovians of the time used to worship the god of Uun. However, once disaster befell the Empire, the people of Ellesis were divided, with some still worshipping Uun out of fear, and the others striking down his idols. Eventually, this practice fell out with the Anchovians, and nowadays the only place where someone can see traces of the old Uun worship is in delapidated temples or old basements where shrines were used to be built.

Here is a work in progress map I am working on, still have a bunch of blending and shading to do on the terrain colors. I am not sure how I am going to represent the food lands and ruin lands yet.
I plan on adding the major cities, roads, and other features plus a bunch of labels, but no so much that the map looks cluttered.
What are your thoughts /tg/?

Very cool anon! Also which post established swamp gnome lake? Couldn't find it in the archive. I think we just went with it as a placeholder name since It's called that in the other maps aswell. Wouldn't Lily Pond be a much more fitting name though, due to the waterlily bloom during springtime and everything? Not racist against swamp gnomes just saying. >Rope Fish

These swamp and bog dwelling variety of eel grow to be 20-30 feet long. Much like a garden hose, the tend to coil and extend their way through the water. Their lazy coils act as small constriction traps for small mammals which might be walking through a swampland. Their small 1 inch diameter make them little threat to larger animals or people, but small mammals get constricted and drowned easily. Some swamp people and bog hags use the bodies of dead Rope Fish to lash things together. As the fish’s body dries in the air, they shrivel like wet leather and tighten lashings well. Although the long lasting smell is not pleasant from uses like this.

>Mudlings

Mudlings are the unofficial staple of the swamps. These small, brackish-tasting fish can be found in almost every bog pond and are extremely easy to catch due to their low intelligence. They can, with a little skill, be pulled out of the swamp water with bare hands, a sharp pointed stick or with a string to the end of which is attached something vaguely reminiscent of a worm or fly. They taste neither particularly good nor particularly bad, which is not a given in the swamps. They also have a gland in their rump that protects them from all the poisons, diseases, parasites and infections of the filthy bogwater, so after a short roast over an open fire they can be eaten without any health concerns. Their taste is akin to that of a slightly rotten carp that has been left in a bucket of moldy water for a little too long.

>Dominion of the Bog Witch – additional lore

>Lily spinners

These swamp and dank pond dwelling fish live amongst normal lily pads. They are flat like flounders, and float belly up at the surface of the water. Their light green bellies blend in with the surrounding lily pads and they use this to lure amphibians, small birds and insects onto their bellies, and at the moment they are touched, they clamp their sides down in a clamp-like grip and swim into the mud to devour their prey. They are terrible to eat, and most people just avoid them.
>>
>Dominion of the Bog Witch – additional lore

>Bag Hunter

These fish live in brackish swamps and bogs. Their main body is about 1 foot long and covered in root-like scales which serve to hold their bodies tight to the bottom of the bog. They root themselves deep in the muck and inflate the tip of their tongue with hydrogen. This allows the tongue to rise up and out of the water, like a small pink balloon on a string. In the air, the inflated tongue secretes a foul smelling sticky substance, which attracts all manner of flying insects. These land on the tiny balloon and then stick to its surface. Over time these balloons get covered in small insects and when the balloon gets heavy enough to again touch the waters, the Bag Hunter will release the hydrogen, retract the tongue, and digest its full meal. It repeats this process indefinitely.

>Riverbull

The Riverbull is an ox-sized predatory fish native to murky waters and swamps. An adult and well-fed specimen can weigh up to 94 stone. Its massive jaw has three times the bite force of a pit bull, meaning that once it bites, it won't let go. It's even said to bite through the wooden hulls of smaller fishing boats. Although more closely related to the carp, the Riverbull displays feeding behavior similar to that of a piranha, although, thank god, it is a cannibalistic loner that does not come in swarms. Once a river bull has smelled blood, it goes into a violent frenzy in which it attacks everything in the rough radius of its prey, including larger predators that are physically superior to it. These lake monsters only tolerate each other during the mating season. However, only for a short duration, after the mating the larger female mauls the male mercilessly. Despite its enormous size, the Riverbull is able to move silently through the murky waters of the swamps. Its tattered fins reminiscent of aquatic plants floating in the current, its mud-colored uneven skin, and the long algae-like appendages on its body provide camouflage. Trying to catch river bulls is strongly discouraged as they still pose a significant threat even on land. Their meat tastes absolutely disgusting anyway and is not worth putting yourself in mortal danger.

>Swamp Moray

This up to thirty-two-feet-long eel slithers through the murky water with uncanny grace, mouth open to display its large teeth and a second set of jaws. Swamp morays are freshwater animals that lie in wait to prey to ambush. Once they get hold of prey, or an intruder, they are tenacious biters, gnawing and tearing on it's flesh. Swamp morays latch on to a chunk of whatever large animal they are eating, then begin to spin rapidly to rip off chunks and swallow it whole. This "death spasm" is used as a way of killing its prey by dragging it under water and intensely wriggling around their muscular body in an uncontrollable spastic motion, so their prey ends up drowning. It’s also used as a way to rip off chunks of flesh from their victims so they can eat it more easy. Swamp morays are known to ocassionally rear up like a snake sticking their head outside of the water to look for nearby victims that are getting too close. They can then quickly catapult several meters forward to catch prey that is further away from the water and pull it backwards into the swamp. A Swamp moray sticking its head out of the water should be avoided at all costs, as this is a sign that it is starved and will attack anything that moves. Usually they lurk in shady caves deep at the bottom of the swamp.

>Swamp Gnomes

Swamp gnomes are insidious Bog Fey that reach about waist-deep on a human. Their skin is musty in color and covered with warts and boils. They feed on mushrooms and herbs, especially those that grow in the more densely wooded areas of the swamps, and know how to prepare them. They also have the knowledge to combine them into magical potions and deadly poisons. Although they have no real use for gold coins, they love anything that sparkles and glitters and are extremely greedy. In exchange for a suitable bribe, they are willing to commit even the worst misdeeds. They then take the loot to a secret hiding place in the fairy kingdom. However, be careful when handling them since they are untrustworthy and will jump at the first opportunity to trick and deceive strangers.

Marsh Glowflies are a brightly glowing species of firefly native to the Witch's Swamp. Although they are significantly smaller, they are sometimes confused with Wisps and therefore have an unjustified bad reputation. They appear in swarms and are extremely shy and skittish. For this reason, having a few swarms of glowflies around is always a good sign. They can even be used as a natural warning system, as the small insects, with their very sensitive organs of touch and large compound eyes, perceive the slightest vibration on the bog floor and the quietest movement. If they flee from your campsite, so should you.

>Glustyworp

The Glustyworp is the evolutionary link between aquatic insect, fish and amphibian. It's a rough-skinned water creature, four yards in length and resembling a stump overgrown with algae. With ten paws and jaws like cut-saws, glustyworps live in swamplands. It is a carnivore with the teeth of a predatory fish, the body of a long-drawn water beetle and the mating behavior of a newt. Many scientists have speculated that it might be an umuncle, but since the species predates the ancient Bogwitch, they have concluded that it is a naturally occurring predator. They use the bog mist as cover, not appearing in the sunlight as it dries them out and makes them become more vulnerable. Their prehensile cephalic limbs with razor sharp claws, have great power, as well as their tail-fan. As the pollution by the wiitches got worse it became a feeding ground for these creatures. And due to the constant food source via people and livestock transported on boats along the rivers and water traderoots, they can grow incredibly big to the point of pulling a cow off one of the ships was no issue. The Glustyworp fills the evolutionary niche of a crocodile in the Witches' Swamps, since these creatures do not exist there due to the relatively low temperatures. Only in the Bayukmen swamps, heated by hot mud springs and combustible swamp gases, exists a species related to them called crocodillians. The Glustyworp exhibits hunting behavior similar to those eating insects, mollusks fish, frogs, lizards, crustaceans and mammals alike. In some areas of the Witch's Swamp, dozens of these dangerous creatures can be seen lounging on the muddy banks during the night. A full-fed Glusytwomp no longer poses a great threat as it becomes lazy and won't attack even if you walk relatively close to it.

A Kelpie is an animalistic type of bog fey. The Kelpie is a form of water creature that resides in rivers and streams only. It is native to the witch bough, though there are similar myths from other nations aswell. The Kelpie has the shape of a fish-tailed horse in the water, but can assume the shape of a wet horse, on dry land. When someone is tempted to sit on the horse's back he becomes magically bound to it, kelpies then take their victims into the water, drown them, devour them, and throw the entrails to the water's edge. A kelpie can be recognized on closer inspection by its fishy eyes, sharp teeth, algae and seaweed in its mane, and some scales where the complete transformation failed. Only foreigners and the inexperienced are tempted to ride these creatures, as the swamps' inhabitants know that due to the deep mud in which their hooves get stuck and the dark aura of the swamps, regular horses will not enter them at all costs

Ok, so can we please choose which version of the zemyland timeline are we going to chose? The crux of the matter seems to be whether the Khenomeric Empire and/or Greater Elanxa colonised the lands (as in, part of the lands were occupied and part of the kingdoms), or whether the zemylanders started arriving after the earthquake and the fall of Greater Elanxa.

Please we have to choose one. I've read the lore of all of the kingdoms multiple times and it's not specified on them, so that's not helping. We can fix the small details relatively easily, but this is a big deal for the region's history. Do we need to put it into a poll?

>>
>>85538584
>>85538572
The lore stated that it was colonised by greater Elanxa, so it should start after Elanxa splits from Khenomers, though perhaps while still being a vassal state or something. The first colonies might have been in an ambiguous state where they were technically part of greater Elanxa, but in actuality were independent. The earthquake would then be the point from where they were formally independent, as Elanxa could no longer assert control.

I mention from the original nations of Zenyland (Aine Saevherne, etc)

A compromise would be that the first migrations started with the first Greater Elanxa colonies in Zemyland (first series of wars against Old Hyperborea) and then the mass migrations occurred after disaster struck Greater Elanxa. Then the biggest wars were fought between the Zemylanders and the Aine Saevherne and Old Hyperborea, leading to their downfall.

I think this could make sense.

Blood fins are large predatory fish found in still waters on the northern half of Giantstep aswell as on Smallstep. Their name comes from the red color of their jagged dorsal and caudal fins. They are feared by anglers because their pulling power can cause small fishing boats to capsize. Due to their immense appetites, they bring entire smaller fish populations to extinction. They are particularly widespread in the region in and around the witch's swamps. Bloodfins are a delicacy and have a savory flesh that tastes similar to walleye. If a death-defying fisherman manages to snare one of these beasts, he can either sell it for a substantial sum or feed a family of five for several weeks.

The trapped Wisp will initially protest and make angry hissing noises and fly around wildly in the lantern, causing it to flicker. However, he will come to terms with the situation after a while and the light will eventually stabilize. Freeing a captured Wisp from such a lantern out of pity is strongly discouraged. Instead of showing gratitude he will first flee quickly into the swamp and then, at an unfavorable moment, lure a horde of swamp ogres or another malicious creature to the sleeping place of his liberator. Wisp trees are a species of weeping willow that give off an intense vermouth-like odor which has a similar effect on wisps as catnip does on cats. The intoxicated Wisps pose no threat as long as they stay among the branches and are so distracted that this is the best place to go if you want to catch one of them. The wisps, when rubbing themselves on the branches, give off a lucid plasma which keeps vermin away from the bark of the tree and allows the willow to photosynthesize even at night. A heavy liquor called "Fairy Piss" can be made from the willow branches, which tastes like a thick absinthe, induces mild hallucinations of dancing fey, and is very popular among the swamp dwellers.

>Western Elven Empire / First Elven Empire (historical nation)

A poorly understood nation, even in ancient times when it existed, it has long been the target of hateful propaganda and historical revisionism.

Fey can be found throughout the world, but the most numerous and powerful tend to be concentrated in the northwest of the main continent. The most powerful of them are known as the Faerie Lords and other such whimsical names, each of whom is highly unique and near godlike in their power, and who between them are believed responsible for the creation of dozens of races.

There is no clean line between who is and isn’t a fey. Generally only those with innate magic and the ability to cross over into one of the fey realms is considered a true fey, but many races are said to have fey origin, or at least connections. For some reason, the more mundane races associated with the fey ended up being the most numerous, the hobbits, the goblins, certain types of gnome and elf, and some say even the humans and dwarves.

It is said in ancient times, humans, hobbits, and other races not possessing innate magic were highly respectful to the fey, worshipping the most powerful as gods, and leaving alone the sacred glades and circles of the rest, but in parts of the continent where the fey were few, but the land was arable, humans began to multiply in vast numbers over time, and they discovered other gods, both good and bad, whose power often outclassed all but the strongest Faerie Lords. Over time, humans also discovered scholarly ways to teach those with potential magic, and some of the mages themselves grew quite powerful.

Along the west coast, the Azan/Dragon Empire was formed and expanded rapidly thanks to its large armies, moral authority, and promise of a more structured, lawful society.

This did not appeal to some of the inhabitants of the northwest however. Some feared a loss of personal power, others feared environmental devastation, others simply didn’t like change, and more than a few feared persecution, particularly the so-called unseelie fey, the dark, barely tolerated underbelly of the lands inhabited by the fey.

The First Elven Empire was formed from these fears, though of course it wasn’t called that at the time (the name only came into use after the formation of the Second Elven Empire by the drow). Nor was the Empire really an Empire. For starters it had no Emperor, or other clearly identifiable leader. Leadership tended to shift around between coalitions of the Faerie Lords and other leaders most willing to contribute to the nation at any given time. The Elven Empire was ironically enough not even particularly Elven, many humans, dwarves, drow, gnomes, hobbits, ogres, goblins, and assorted fey among others were members of the Empire.

However, the Elven Empire did have enough size and magic might to be taken seriously as a power on par with the Dragon/Azan Empire, and the Khenomeric Empire, so for that reason alone the name “Empire” was generally seen as appropriate by outsiders.

Throughout its long existence, the Empire split up, expanded, contracted, dissolved, and reformed countless times. Its core was the lands north of the Azan Empire, but it also sometimes included lands south of the Azan Empire, or lands in the northeast, and sometimes the Scimitarian Subcontinent, though more often than not this area was at odds with their eastern neighbors, which led them to often be referred to as the Western Elven Empire instead.

The wood elves, aka primal elves, or primordial elves, were the most visible members of the Elven Empire armies. Strange (to humans) asexual beings who could mate with essentially anything, and whose tree like nature gave them long lives and much durability, they were ideal as shock troops, but also as skirmishers, mages, and diplomats in the forces of many of the Faerie Lords. They were once concentrated around what is now known as Elfwood, but at the behest of their masters also migrated to Scimitaria, and other locations along the western coast. Many elven and fey races are believed to be descended from them in some way.

Humans were also quite prominent. The ancestors of humans now living in North Scimitaria, Isle of Wizards, Gvilderstaaten, Baalps, and Daligrad, among other places, many were simple folk who farmed and fished and minded their own business, much like many of the hobbits, but others were skilled raiders or fanatical shock troops in the service of the wilder seelie fey, or certain unseelie fey.

Then there were the drow and their cousins the sea elves. Their origins are unclear. At the time it was widely assumed they were related to wood elves, but the massive migration of drow from parts unknown about a 1000 years ago has caused many to doubt this.

There were also of course hobbits, gnomes, dwarves, ogres, goblins, and many others.

The Dragon/Azan Empire fought many inconclusive wars against the Elven Empire, including their involvement in the Battle of Empires, but it was only after the Khenomeric Empire collapsed that Azan could throw their full weight against the elves and their allies.

The key to victory for Azan was the distrust between the different factions within the Elven Empire. Many beings disliked the dominance of the Faerie Lords, the grudging tolerance of the unseelie fey, and the many limitations on clearing land, fishing, mining, and hunting. This mean that Azan could often quickly establish control over new areas once its more diehard opponents had been driven out.

Over time, the Dragon/Azan Empire took nearly all fey/elvish holdings along the western coast, in Scimitaria (the Western Elvish Empire), and other minor holdings, though some pockets persist to this day. However, the Dragon/Azan Empire itself when into decline around a thousand years ago with the arrival of large numbers of drow and witch elves. This stopped Azan's expansion, leaving the Faerie Lords unchallenged in the Lands Behind the Hedge, though Azan likely would have found absorbing this area extremely difficult due to the lack of humans, dwarves, or other natural allies.

The title of "Elvish Empire" has fallen into disuse, the last to use it were the drow for their short lived "Second Elvish Empire". But the wood elves and the Faerie Lords remain, and have the power to become a potent force once again should they choose to.

>The Dragon/Azan Empire fought many inconclusive wars against the Elven Empire, including their involvement in the Battle of Empires, but it was only after the Khenomeric Empire collapsed that Azan could throw their full weight against the elves and their allies.

I don't think this part makes much sense.

Acording to azan lore "in the millennia that followed [the banishment of the Ancient Evil], the Azan Empire made no lasting progress against the Khenomeric Empire or the Lands Behind the Hedge, though they were able to conquer the Western Elf Empire through generations of invasion and migration." And the collapse of the Khenomeri Empire seemed after the Battle of Empires (either its internal fights between Pharahkhan Kleo II Pate and the Magoclergy or its final end against the gnolls).
>>
>>85543054
Khenomeric Empire collapsed mostly due to infighting, but the Dragon/Azan Empire never really took advantage of this for whatever reason, therefore their fights with the Khenomeric Empire were inconclusive.

Fights with the Lands Behind the Hedge were also inconclusive, as Azan was never able to advance into this region. (at the time I wrote that line, the idea that the Lands Behind the Hedge were the eastern part of the Elven Empire hadn't been proposed yet, but it still works, as even in the real world people often refer to ancient nations by their modern names)
>>
>>85543256
I'm not sure about how inconclusive things were, since noone has writen the Battle of Empires and its wars yet. What's certain is that, by the time Azan and the Khenomeri began their war, the First Elven Empire had been conquered.

More stuff for the Strange Meadows

>Dolphebra
Dolphebras are highly intelligent creatures that live in packs of 20-50 individuals. They are omnivores that will eat anything from grass, fruit to small animals, although they haven't been shown any particular predatory behaviour, prefering instead scavanging for carcasses or animals that don't require great hunting efforts. They communicate by creating a complex language of sounds, some of them reaching a spectrum below what humans and other predators can listen. This helps them watch over for potential threats, being able to escape quickly if there's danger around. They have been seen using pack tactics to raid some local farms, which forces the locals to breed dogs with specially strong sense of hearing to try and hear them coming during the night.

>Beetlebear

Bettlebears are solitary creatures that hunt in the meadows. They will move long distances in search of pray, and will eat anything that they can find. Since their size makes stealth difficult, bettlebears will only hunt big prey when there's a considerable chance of success, but most of the time they will eat frut, dig in the ground for lemmites and fish in the lakes and rivers with their great pincers. Those pincers are strong enough to break bone, and they are used to incapacitate their victims in one strike, preventing them from running. Local farmers and shepherds organise a hunting party every time one of this animals is located, since their strength and ferocity makes them very difficult to take down individually, although luckilly they don't seem to see humans as prey. Bettlebears are also very sensitive to high temperatures, and thus they will search deep caves and hybernate during the hottest months of summer.

>Waselfish

Waselfish are gregarious creatures around the size of chickens. They fly in great numbers searching for prey insects, mostly located in swamps and lakes. Waselfish will use their front arms to move the top of the trees and the grass around bodies of water to force insects to move and flee, while other waselfish catch them. They are an integral part of the local ecosystem, since they reproduce in great numbers and lay their eggs underwater, forming part of the diet of many species. However, consumption of the adult Waselfish is not recommended, since they apparently have developed a horrible taste to dissuade predators, although that rarely works in the wild.

>Snailotamus

Snailotamus are massive herbivores that spend most of their time grazing the underwater grass and algae that grows near lakes and rivers. They are extremely passive creatures, due to their big size, low speed and low intelligence. However, their incredible biting strength and tough shell makes predators very weary of attacking them. The Snailotamus' slime is used by the local populations to deter predators and to make certain kinds of glue. The locals usually sell the Snailotamus slime for cosmetic uses to foreign traders, though its actual effects are not really clear.

What happens in the Blind Bastard's Domain, or in all the far south for that matter? There's very little lore there
>>
>>85544391
I think the only reason the south is less fleshed out is just that most of the anons writting lore have their attention elsewhere.
>>
>>85544391
I think most people are focusing on the far West and East first
>>
>>85543284
"First Elven Empire" has been used as an alternate name for the "Western Elven Empire" for several threads now, but on the last thread it was proposed that the "Lands Behind the Hedge" were also a part of it. But later in the same thread another anon posted a map that also proposed the "First Elven Empire" having territories south of Azan thousands of years ago, but it had already been determined that parts of the "Western Elven Empire" fell not long before the arrival of the drow 1000 years ago.

So I figure that the "First Elven Empire" is a somewhat nebulous term that gets applied to any elvish held territories up until around 1000 years ago.
