A general for Nechronica, Ryo Kamiya's magnum opus of insanely fun tactical combat and emotional rollercoaster rides.

Thread created to continue some storytimes from the last thread, but please share your own experiences, battle autism, and anything cute biohorror girl related.

If I ever get into another nech game I'm definitely playing Entombed. The concept sounds really fun and I enjoyed the other homebrew class made by that person that I played, even if it was my least favorite Doll since I feel like I didn't really find her "voice" before the end of the oneshot.

Make a doll. Then make a starting level nechronica character for it.
Bonus points if it's an entombed.

Undead zombie girls in a world that is just as dead is probably the most basic way to describe it. Mechanically out of combat stuff is very light but in combat is probably one of the most fun out there as it is very dynamic and tactical.

to make it a smidge easier, ya can grab the game here:

>I made individual stages for each encounter in my game. They looked like shit in a way I was really satisfied with, my players loved it.

I enjoy the "Emperor TTS" esque feeling of someone telling a story or explaining something created by the combination of the photographic or color image backgrounds with grayscale pencil drawing paper cutout caricatures for characters. It's like peoples basic ideas of characters are moving and acting on places that the listeners constructed in their mind based on other places they've seen or pictures of other places they've seen.

The build is meant to reliably put out and take damage in equal measure. With a high number of AP to for defends/skills to help do so. Calamity provides more utility when clearing crowds and Carnage will boost up the damage needed to push through a defend or clutch a kill. A big weakness however are attacks that negate defend and repeated hits to the torso will be costly with the energy tubes exploding. In addition to being a bit slow, she will be at the mercy of any enemies that can yeet her out of position.

That's two (three?) of us so far assuming it doesn't devolve into ERP which is the main concern that kept me off the game so far.
>>
>>92106884
>and I heard Port Anon found his game via tg.

Yes and no. I will explain.

PortAnon already had a group.

While PortAnon was story timing the Port Campaign I reached out them in a thread to see if they would be interested in being a player in another Nechronica campaign as I had the itch to GM, and the ongoing Port storytime had inspired me to give GMing Nechronica a shot as I wanted something that was relatively light in bookkeeping, very approachable in terms of math, and allowed a lot of freedom outside of combat in terms of environment and physical form.

We met in a temporary room on an IRC server to chat and see if it seemed like we would enjoy playing together.

My attempts to recruit more people fell flat due to everyone on my list of good players and past forever GMs who I wanted to have as players being unavailable due to IRL issues.

Thankfully Portanon recruited the GM from the port campaign and the GM for the longest running game he had ever been who would go on to play Imp and Melico respectively in the England game. (The game PortAnon played Coleo in)

There have been games since then that some or all of the players/GMs of the Port and England campaigns have participated in. The ones using the Nechronica system have been storytimed in whole or part.
>>
>>92108766
>assuming it doesn't devolve into ERP
Despite what some people keep wanting to claim, this is an almost nonexistent threat. At the very least, since this is a niche game people are much less inclined to do shit that might get them tossed out since it's not like you can just go back to some looking for group board or some shit to find another Nechronica game.

I know nothing about this game but it should be the kind of game that would be trivially easy to run a campaign for since post-apoc is about basic utilities and survival
>monsters have overrun this place and we need to escape
>we found a destroyed tank that had records of a military facility here maybe we can find weapons or a vehicle
>a nuclear alarm went off and this area will be leveled in 24 hours, we need to find an underground bunker before it's too late
>we found a survivor that says there's a safe place with a generator X miles from here
>we saw a flashing light on top or a radio tower in the distance, maybe it's a distress signal

So continuing off story from last time, in which the party (The DZD) had crash landed or washed up on the Grave of Maidens, and were promptly captured by the Me'Shen Combine dolls making a fortress of the place. The dolls, and Diana in particular, had two previous encounters with the Combine doll back in the dropzone. I'll rewind a bit to go over those:

The first encounter was with the "Grinding Gear Gang" a tacticool military band of the Combine, and unbelievably brutal due to their leader Gloria...who will become very important later. The GGG were hoooorriible and tried to have Wyrd and the other dolls dissassembled for spare parts, or enslaved for sexual services. In a fierce fight that ensued, Diana ended up unintentionally killing one of them, which was pretty much her first time killing an actually sentient character and a hugely painful moment for her (but one that also made me understand her character more and set the mood for rp'ing/writing her in future games). The second encounter was more benevolent, when the Diana and Hilda together ventured (this massively strengthened their relationship and friendship) into the home base of the Combine, a massive dystopian industrial super city filled with endless machines and oil and sludge. They had come asking for help in fighting off Apukallah and there Diana lucked into meaning Bellona, a flaming skeletal nun (and a rare adult) who happened to have been a nurse who tended to the dying Diana when she was still alive. The meeting was extremely tearful and emotional, and Bellona did arrive with several minions to help fight off Apukallah's monsters during that fight.
>>
>>92115669
Back to the present, there are GGG stationed on the island and the dolls are quickly put on trial. It's an intense affair, with several characters voting against them, and several voting for them, but after some intense performancse from both Diana and Hilda they're ultimately let go. Things are looking better, and the DZD attempt to explain to one of the higher ups that they need to get to Lissandra and that Tarayah is stalking the place and trying to get there first...until midway through the conversation, said higher up is sniped by Tarayah with an arrow that kills her and reanimates her as an undead enemy. The ensuing battle once again seperates the DZD. Diana and others decide to go speak to the islands Elder, Cassandra, while Alicia and Hilda form a secret plan to use the formers rockets to bring the latter to the The Tree of Ages territory far to the south (I think it was South)...Hilda believes she can still talk to "Hailey" and feels a calling to her.

...and that's when all for "Meridians" for the Tree of Age show up. Insane, peak evolution super mutant dolls who are the most powerful - non kaiju - servitors of the Tree of Ages. Each one linked to one of the aforementioned Godbeasts, Tarayah, The Sword and The Soul (a robot unsettling similar in appearance to Alicia, yet infested with organic growths and turned into a feral biomech and wielding an enormous lightsaber) and Pyngruwel (the moste alien of all the dolls, a very difficult to describe insect-human-thing...she was modeled after calne-ca miku visually). The fourth was Apukallah...who died. But she's been replaced by a brainwashed Hilda, who is now fused to an enormous angler-fish beast and driven to devour the ones she loves most.

And that was the start of the big climax fight of chapter 2. More later!

Oh yeah, if those anons from the previous thread who were following this and egging me on to continue storytime are still here, please let me know!

One game we had was basically this
>Necromancer's top minions find themselves without purpose when their master disappears. They find an abandoned set of dolls, the only creations capable of acting against the Necro and organize a grand, Bloodborne-esque scenario for them, in hopes of attracting their Master. Unaware of It all players progress through the scenario, see their world break at the seams and each time they manage to reach the "backrooms" of the world, everything becomes more fucked up but more of the hidden truth gets revealed

I want to make another campaign sometime, but only one of my dudes is up for It, the other doesn't care at all what we play and the third is against "the girl game" again, so It would be weird to force the party to play If there's no collective enthusiasm for It

I think you're not reading the line well. It isn't about being blessed with genetics but "trying to make yourself look good". If you don't take care of yourself, and put no effort in the clothes you put on and your general appearance, you're not sending a neutral signal with your appearance, but a negative one.
Even when you make a zombie waifu you express her personality and story through her appearance. It's just important.
>>
>>92120130
Free of any other context this can be read as a statement in a similar vein as someone who is well-off saying "if someone is poor, it's because they're a shitty person." From just the one panel alone you can't really get a feel for what this person considers "trying."

I wouldn't say so. If you decide to not allocate any of your resources into what you wear (which is pretty essential if you're venturing out in the world since it's what everyone else sees) and none of your time into grooming, it's a direct indicator of what your priorities are. There are very few people in the more civilized world who are so poor that they cannot afford a single good change of clothes and no time to shave - in the majority of cases they simply have other priorities. I've seen plenty of people who'd fit the bill from that quote and none of them were forced into looking like ass. They just decided to be fat, unwashed, and use "I don't care about appearances / people need to judge me by my precious mind and sensibility" as an excuse for dressing poorly and anonymously, but then fawned like hypocrites over their oneitis who'd probably spend 3 hours every morning just putting on her makeup.
Anyway let's not derail.

Dolls are immortal machines of death in a sad, barren world. They seek respite, meaning, and maybe even a conclusion. Those ideas are fine, but I feel they miss the themes of the game.

These are interesting, too, and from my limited knowledge of System Shock it sounds easy to have it as a setting curated for these themes. Rule of Rose might, as well, but I've never played it and don't find the game interesting to watch.

I've played a Nech and Ventangle oneshot with that DM before, he's very inventive. Ours was New Years themed about defeating a rogue Doll and getting the World's time ticking again after she had frozen it to live in the past. It turned out we all knew her (except for one Doll who was implied to be her replacement) and that we were all tricked by the Clockmaster to keep this twisted cycle going, but instead of heeding her warnings we pressed on and defeated her. My Doll was selected to be the next one in the cycle, and also got shot in the back by a fellow Doll because of a twisted psuedo-love triangle that formed due to me rolling Possessive and them rolling Devoted for the same third Doll and their Doll getting upset my Doll ate the entrails of the target of both their affections (which were freely offered to her as a meal). Said Doll rolled Devoted for my Doll so it was a very one-sided triangle to boot

The DM also said he had a whole separate encounter charted out for if we decided to rebel against the Clockmaster instead, but alas we were obedient little Dolls that did his bidding instead.

Finally managed to run my first game of this yesterday.
Our cast;
Charlie
>Junk, Baroque, Stacy, with a sad clown/broken doll aesthetic.
Gabriel
>Alice, Psycadelic, Stacy. Has wings with eyes and is covered in bloody wounds
Katame
>Automaton, Thanatos, Requiem. One eye, one sword, and plenty of bad attitude.

The Dolls start off in dark and dirty prison cells (it was just Charlie and Gabriel at this point, Katame's player was just getting back from work, and we were strapped for time). Discovering that their cells are unlocked, the Dolls begin looking for an exit, pausing only to comfort each other. The only possible exit is a hole at the end of the corridor that stretches down into darkness. Not fancying their chances jumping, the Dolls search around the cells some more. Charlie discovering a grate were she could her the distant sound of factory works. Gabriel finding an empty soda can that she tossed down the well to gauge the distance. It falls for a long time, until voice below cries out in pain. Gabriel's attempts at apology fail as the voice unleashes a tirade of curses. Changing tact, Gabriel asks where they might be, the voice, confused says that it's nothing but blue skies from where they're standing. The two Dolls use Charlie's vine as an abseil, Gabe climbing on the older Doll's back, Charlie saying that she feels like a big sister. This is when Katame shows up, kicking open her cell, and after a very brief introduction jumps into the pit, stabbing her sword into the fall to slow her decent. The stone wall splits open like it's meat, and black blood spurts out. As the Dolls are deep into the hole, a deep growl shakes them off the walls, the last thing they see before they fall into complete darkness are two glowing red lights.

In a blink the Dolls are no longer falling and staring up at a perfect blue sky. They are lying on white brick road in a massive field of daffodils. Katame, stabs one of the flowers with her sword (her player saying that this is how she asserts her dominance), this causes a human shriek to tear through the air before abruptly ending. Gabriel convinces her sister not to do it again. Charlie points out that the road leads to a pavilion and that they should move on. As the sisters walk, Gabriel is enamored with the sky, spending the whole journey looking skyward. Charlie leads the little angel by the hand, lest she trip. This stirs up a memory for Gabriel, one of her elder sister (Gabes player hadn't rolled anything higher that 4 for conversation checks but managed to crit on this particularly cute interaction).
Now that they've reached the pavilion they see that the floor has large mosaique of an ace of spades. A voice behind them says it seems pretty plot significant. Charlie hides Gabe behind her and Katame immediately pointing her sword a the voice. The stranger is an albino girl with bunny ears. She introduces herself as Connie.
Gabe asks her if she knows anything about a rude voice that got hit with a soda can, Connie saying she hasn't got a clue, sipping on a can of soda. The Dolls ask how they can leave, Connie point towards a grungy mausoleum that just suddenly appeared.
As they walk to gloomy building, the sisters notice that the landscape is eerily still, no insects, no animals, and not even wind. Gabe, gaining the first madness point of the session, breaks down, as the unnatural stillness stirs up memories of emptiness and melancholy. Katame comforts her telling her to buck up, and she and Charlie are here for her. The Dolls push open the rusty entrance and descend the mausoleum steps into darkness.

The Dolls appear in moonlit graveyard, all around are crumbling head stones and gnarled trees. But they are drawn to the stead rhythm of someone digging. They follow the sound to its source, a short girl in an over-sized hat and trench coat. The Undertaker stops her work and asks the Dolls why they are awake. Katame snaps back the same question at her. Uncaring, the Undertaker threateningly points her shovel at the graves (which the Dolls now see bare their names) telling them to go back to sleep. Zombies then burst out of the graveyard, the Undertaker saying she will put the Dolls under. Combat starts.
Things go well for the players, taking off the Undertaker's head on their very first count (dismember is pretty busted), and quickly learning how to support one another where it counts to deal the most effective hits. It almost went south on the second turn with Katame getting blown out of position by a scarecrow and both her bones destroyed. But luckily she still had her shoulder and then some good use of calamity and supports quickly swung it back in their favor.
At the end of combat, all that was left of the Undertake were her clothes and her shovel, after putting them selves back together, the Dolls pick up the shovel and are appear back at the pavilion. The players see the connection between the shovel and the ace and touch it to the floor. This causes the ground to shatter like glass. Katame's player says she lingers in the air for a few moments with a sign that says, "Man, fuck this Alice in Wonderland style bullshit", before they all fall into the void.

The session was blast to run. A really enjoyed that they embraced the sororal themes of the game and committed to roleplaying it (I was nervous they wouldn't be down for it). They really seemed to like the AP system for combat mastered it a lot quicker that I thought. I'll have to make it more challenging next time.

If you can't at least pitch it to your friends then you're either a bitch or around terrible people. Then again, playing ttrpgs with "broader circles" sounds miserable. Playing or running with someone who reacts so vehemently to a single element like this doesn't seem fun because then you have to worry about what other weird elements might set them off since a lack of chill has already been demonstrated.

Putting aside that the penis gives you no tactical advantage, not that great. Karmic corpse is pointless in one shots or games where the gm isn't stiffing you on repairs. Rip amd tear would serve you better for the idea you're going for woth those two attack part. Super strength, spikes, and corpse mushroom are all fine pick. Follow is also a good pick but only if you have another PC that you know will move.

I've told multiple normal nerd friends, entry level weebs, and completely normal coworkers about nechronica. every single one has been floored and wanted to play. a few have begged me to invite them to my next game.
trade your room. that's all. "zombie anime girl grindhouse horror game" is all you need to sell it. normal people don't know what a loli is. many default to "anime girl" when seeing it because they just think it's an art style choice.
I've said it before, but we only worry so much about being called pedos for this sort of thing because we have internet poisoning. the majority of people don't give a shit so long as you phrase it properly. Anybody who likes zombies, anime, monsters and rpgs will think nechronica sounds awesome.

I can accept that. I haven't really done much online stuff cos my flame forged group of old disbanded pretty explosively a few weeks ago. I only just yesterday learned about the inhouse discord, but so far I've been cut out of 4 separate non-dnd groups for even asking to try a one-shot in the apocalyptic waifu future. They all seemed ok, I just don't have a decade of time across the table from these people I guess

It's something players don't consider until they start hitting their teammates. Area is powerful, though it will hit allies. Depending on group composition, though, some characters may benefit from being damaged by friendly fire. There can be some truly terrifying synergies between dolls.

>It's hard enough to find people who aren't playing dnd5 without skirting around shit that I don't like being the postercard for a setting I want to play
The point is the root of your problem is very much as >>92135742 said, a skill issue. There's always the possibility you pitch it to exactly the wrong group but if you're getting shut down by multiple groups (and not only shut down but kicked out), you're very much doing it wrong. Not being into a part of a game is fine, but if you're vitriolic in your dislike for something when trying to pitch it, it's no wonder people are shutting you out.

It's listening to story times like Aquires that make me wish I had played more mech before running my own campaign. Its been going 7 years now, but I do think it would have been better of I had had a better grasp of the system at the start, and written it with more of a classic neck setting in mind instead of shoehorned in an old homebrew one instead.

Stories change when they're from a male perspective. Women are not men with tits and men are not girls with dicks. The only people who believe this are gender schizos.
>>
>>92148992

Every gacha turns characters into girls, FGO does it with impunity, Girl's Frontline, hell, even Limbus is guilty of it (at least my Czechbro Gregor is safe!) and gacha are big influence on asian gamers and in turn game makes, so I think it's combination of that and infatuation with FPS tradition of over the top violence. from good old Blood to recent incarnations like Russian Overkill.
>>
>>92149445
>FGO does it with impunity
Fate's poster child is a r63 King Arthur and always has been. They were doing that literally during the birth of the franchise and way before gacha was a thing.
>>
>>92149456
Wasn't the story originally meant to be slightly more reasonable "teenage girl Master summons King Arthur to fight for her" but test audience hated playing as female Master so they gender swapped both summoner and the summon?
>>
>>92149532
No test audiences were involved, a co-creator or editor or something just convinced Nasu it'd make more money that way iirc. And I think they wanted a male POV for the porn scenes too.
>>
>>92149677

>>
>>92150514
Because >jap thing that turned historical guy into girl.
However this entire tangent is retarded.
>>
>>92149532
>>92149677
Yeah, the original reason for gender-swapping king Arthur in FSN was the publisher thinking a VN told from the perspective of a female protagonist wouldn't sell as well and Nasu not wanting to rewrite the story so he just said "fine, Arthur's a girl now". The reason FSN's prologue is from Tohsaka's point of view instead of Shirou's is because it's a remainder from when Tohsaka was the protagonist.
However since FSN's Saber became so popular they figured turning historical figures into waifus was easy money, and most Fate games since then have had at least one male historical figure that's been gender-swapped, with varying quality of explanation (at least with Jack the Ripper we don't really know who his true identity really was so it could be argued that the killer was actually a woman, while claiming sir Francis Drake was actually a woman in disguise requires far greater suspension of disbelief).
>>
>>92149445
>Girl's Frontline
Turning guns into girl bots is quite different from r63ing an existing character though.
Also technically the T-Dolls aren't really anthropomorphic guns, they're repurposed civilian dolls who get imprinted to the gun.
>>
>>92150988
>at least with Jack the Ripper we don't really know who his true identity really was so it could be argued that the killer was actually a woman
Isn't the justification for Jack being a loli actually that she's the representation of all the fucked up babbies that got killed? Because Jack's identity is unknown, Jack can be summoned in various forms depending on the symbology, or some shit like that

Different methods for similar outcome, neither will be anywhere near historically accurate, both end up with predominantly (or exclusively) female cast.
Admittedly all my knowledge of GLF lore come second hand, but my understanding is that it's cute girls doing cute atrocities on surface and some really dark stuff underneath.

>>
>>92151087
>my understanding is that it's cute girls doing cute atrocities on surface and some really dark stuff underneath.
Your understanding is completely wrong. It's bleak, dark, and depressing upfront with brief, fragile moments of cuteness shining through all the gloom and warcrimes. It's also some of the best "alien mindset" robot characterization of possibly anything I've ever read, surprisingly enough.

My favourite part about GFL is that you go in baited by cute girls and guns, and you think wow Girls' Frontline. Then you come out the other side realising it's glowies all the way down in an alt history setting with the Neo USSR, and the plot is really Old Men's Backline
Also the (You) character endemic to gachas slowly develops from a self-insert to actually having his own personality. The writing benefitted greatly from that.
>>
>>92156884
>Also the (You) character endemic to gachas slowly develops from a self-insert to actually having his own personality
Honestly, Commander (You) isn't just A character, he's easily one of the best characters. He's so good he hard carries the Neural Cloud spinoff as well as the Zombieland Saga crossover event.

>>92161377

>>
>>92161377
When you admit you're too trash of a GM to challenge players without breaking the rules.
>>
>>92161377
I used them for the final zone of a long-running game. They're not as cheap when you've thrown everything else at the characters and you've hammered it into them the place they're going is a point of no return for a reason.
>>
>>92161377
As a rule of thumb, never. The game is built on the assumption that the two sides play by different rules. One side gets near infinite freedom to slap whatever they want on save for a few exceptions. There are some exceptions but a gm that can't figure out the why of those few is one that should be forced to follow the guide lines at gun point.

This is assuming you're talking about the things that are explicitly stated to not be allowed and not the more vague things of "avoid making you own legions."
>>

>>92161377
Even if you do follow the rules they give you it’s still decently easy to make overpowered enemies
