The shop is quiet save for Gordo’s light, poppy music selection. An older man, face well weathered from years of manual labour reads a newspaper over his sesame seed bagel: the sole customer at Bean City. The weather, for a change, has been consistently sunny since you woke up for work, and you feel uncomfortably warm in your jeans and t-shirt.

By the time you had gotten in after the fight last night, exhaustion had finally overtaken adrenaline and you had passed out the moment you sat down.

You glance at your phone, idly wiping at a counter while Gordo restocks cups. The Rain City sections of PHO and /ca/ have been abuzz with rumours around your fight with Belts. Fortunately, it seems that just about everyone has picked up the name Blindside as canon, and a few fairly high-quality cellphone shots of you doing battle with the Red Boys lieutenant are being posted with regularity.

It’ll be good for publicity, you think to yourself, but is publicity necessarily a good thing?

One picture seems to be getting posted more than any other, and you can’t help but remark that it’s quite a flattering shot: your costumed self stands over a fallen Belts, your body in a relaxed fighting stance, your three-eyed helmet slightly upturned and looking elsewhere into the crowd, the harsh spotlights creating a dramatic chiaroscuro. You save it to your SD card.
>>
“What’s more interesting than me?”

You look up from your phone. Gordo leans against the wall, drinking a cup of coffee.

“Just checking up on some stuff.”

He takes another sip, nodding towards the espresso machine. You start going through the mechanical motions of making yourself a cup; the crisp, hot smell of brewing coffee never ceases to lift your spirits.

“You end up checking out that cape fight last night?” Gordo doesn’t dig further into your ‘stuff,’ “Clark and Luke didn’t see you there, you seemed pretty on board the other night apparently.”

You do your best to act nonchalant, raising the steaming mug to your mouth,

“I had a thing come up, you know how it is. I’ll shoot Clark a text maybe, figure something out next time.”

“Hey man, I don’t need to know the details of your love life,” he smirks and puts his coffee down, approaching the till to greet an errant customer.

You check the time on your phone, 1:57pm. Only three minutes left in your shift. You dump out the cracked, mismatching green mug that serves as a tip jar, a cascade of loose change scattering across the counter. You slide the coins back and forth in pairs, making two separate piles. All told, your tiny hoard comes to nine dollars, twenty five cents on the button.

Brrrrr, brrrrr. Gordo is still dealing with the customer, a hand idly running through his over the top ginger hairstyle. You check your phone as it vibrates for a second time.

Tap tap, tap, tap tap tap, tap tap.

{I’ll be there.}

The machine makes a horrid noise as you run your time-card through it, punching out for the day. You dump your remaining coffee into a to-go cup and wave goodbye to Gordo, who barely notices over his flirtations with a female customer. Unsuccessful flirtations, you note.

You’d swear it was July already, the afternoon sun giving the busy streets of The Bricks a warm haze. The bus is hot and crowded, scent of sweat and dirt hanging in the muggy air. You are forced to stand, and the long ride back to your apartment seems to take hours.

By the time you get in the door of your apartment, you feel a dampness around your armpits and neck. You toss your unused jacket over a chair and pull a beer from the fridge. You start to run a shower as you take a few sips from the refreshingly cool bottle. You wonder what Blowout’s meeting could be about as you rinse the sweat from your body, then recall his job offer with a wince. The garish villain seems like a nice enough guy, but he is a villain. Whatever this job is, odds are it won’t be entirely legal.

Towel around your waist, you draw back your curtains and open the windows in your bedroom. A light breeze rustles past you as a degree of air circulation begins, carrying moisture from the shower away. You gaze out the window: people go about their day, not a care in the world or a cloud in the sky; where only a week or so before the streets had been lined with dead, clawlike branches, every tree in sight is decked head to toe in bright green leaves and colourful flowers.

you gonna imply shat some sweaty midwestern girl in her underwear in her basement cant fetishize any pairing.

now if you want to go my rout consider the following...
mechanically, martial artists make superior dominants(sadist type); especially those who take weaponed martial arts like escrima or to a lesser extent kendo, its a good synergy with swinging things like canes, crops, or floggers, additionally there is Hojōjutsu. Belts has a power that lends itself to bondage and probably to whip-like impact-play; we could just as easily be written as the dynamic dominant duo by any writer with even moderate talent

You turn away from the view.

If I’m missing my class, I might as well get some sort of exercise in.

You throw on a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt, and put in your headphones. The clanging of metal plates mingle with the thrumming beat of your workout playlist, physical exertion becoming an unconscious repetition. You allow yourself to slide into your power and find that every rep is a bit easier, a little bit smoother as your muscles take the most efficient path through each lift. Not exactly super strength, but definitely better than nothing.

Without realizing, a full two hours go by, and you barely feel half as exhausted as you normally would by the end of a one hour workout. A byproduct of your power, or are you simply starting to get into a semblance of shape?

Not content on stopping there, you put the weights away and open Youtube on your phone.

{krav maga}
{krav maga training}

After skimming a few videos from the second search, you find what you’re looking for. It’s a seven minute clip of a muscled, unattractive middle aged man giving rather brusque instructions on the Israeli self defence art. You mimic the motions shown in the video: without a partner to practice with or actual instructor to give proper advice, you imagine you’re not getting the full benefit, but after about twenty five minutes of mimicking the techniques shown, you imagine you have the gist of it. You check the time: 5:06pm. You load up another video on Youtube.

It’s still light as you step out of the cab, streets painted orange as the sun starts to dip in the sky. You hand a crumpled ten through the window and wave the cabbie away. Clutching the handle of the black case, you survey your surroundings. You’re in a more run down part of The Bricks, but here and there people go to or fro along the sidewalk, posture generally sullen. The good weather can only do so much to buoy one’s spirits. Across the street, an old building stands half-demolished, fence adorned with a sign listing off the details of a new construction project. At the top of the board, the word CARMICHAEL in all caps written in blue. You duck into an alley and find a place to change.

Blowout whistles as you round the corner, hands placed firmly on his hips in a cocky stance.

“The pictures on the internet don’t quite do the real thing justice!” he gestures to your costume, “I can’t say I would’ve gone with something quite so… dark, myself.”

You shake your head a little, three-eyed helmet concealing a grin,

“You’re a villain, you’d think you’d try to keep some semblance of a low profile.”

He leans back, forcing a theatrical laugh.

“If people don’t see you being cool, what’s the point?”

How has this guy lasted for so long?

“What’s this about Blowout? I’m missing something to be here.”

“The job. Time to earn that costume Blindside. How do you feel about a bit of Robin Hood action?”

>Stealing? No way. (Blowout will be upset.)

Robin Hood by a nose! Writing.
>>
You cock your head a little.

“Robin Hood? You make it sound like we’re going to be the good guys. Can’t say that’s a bad thing: count me in.

“What’s the job?”

Blowout pulls a folded brochure from the inside of his vest and hands it to you. You unfold it, and recognize the now familiar blue letters you saw just a few minutes earlier.

“Carmichael? You want us to hit a construction company?”

He shakes his ponderously helmeted head,

“Not just construction.” He taps on a photograph in the bottom right of the crinkled flyer: a portrait of a well dressed middle aged man, salt and pepper hair swept back in a slightly dated yet not unattractive style. His well worn face is split with an honest smile. “This guy here, Bob Carmichael. He’s got a finger in just about every pie you can think of. Moneylending, alternative energy, pharma, you name it. Most of it seems pretty good, especially with this ‘rebuilding the city’ face he’s putting on. Truth of it is, he’s just another one percent sonofabitch like the rest of them.”

You squirm a little, remembering your rather opulent lifestyle back in Calgary.
>>
Assumed wrongdoing aside, you’re talking one of the richest people in the city,” you say, shaking your head. “You don’t think he’ll have his offices and shit protected against capes? Especially with guys like Snakehead hitting high-profile businesses?” You’re pretty sure you even recall reading about one of Carmichael’s construction projects being razed to the ground by some White Collars thugs in the paper the other day.

Blowout draws in close, as if to confide in you a secret, drawing a phone from his vest.

“That’s the thing,” he stage-whispers, “we don’t hit any of the downtown stuff. We hit his house.”

He gestures to an image on his phone screen: a picture of an enormous mansion, clearly far from the concrete and steel of the city.

“His house? You gotta be kidding.”

“No, no, listen. I’ve got it all figured out. This guy, he’s real secretive right? It took me ages to figure out where his place even was. Sure he’s gonna have security, but I’m willing to bet that he doesn’t want a ton of armed goons and high tech junk cluttering his private life away from the office. It’s hard to rob a place you can’t find, right?”

You shake your head, “how exactly did you find out where his super secret mansion is?”

“I got a very reliable tip. I’ll keep my sources secret for now, but you can trust them, I promise. This Saturday, he’s going to be at some big energy conference in Seattle. It’s the perfect time to do it. The longer we sit on this plan, the longer he had to find out. What do you say? Are you in, or are you in?”

You bite your lip. You’re probably going to regret this.

“I’m in,” you firmly grasp his hand.

“Sweet!” he exclaims, smile beaming from below his half-visor, “for a second there I thought you were gonna leave me holding the bag. Now,” he continues, “there’s a few logistical things we have to cover still. I’ve got a getaway figured out, a… friend owes me a favour. But that’s far from everything: equipment, what do you need? I know, I know, you’re real good at fighting with your fists. But this won’t be a few street thugs or a one on one bit of performance theatre like last night’s show, any security guys we come up against with’ll have stun batons, tasers, bean bag shotguns, and that’s being optimistic. If I were you, I’d track down some gear to fill up those pockets of yours. Maybe a sweet ass carbon fibre sword? That would be ill. Or what abou-”

You cut off his rambling,

“Who’s the friend?” There are already a few too many unknowns for your liking, this is one you’re going to have to put your foot down on.

You see Blowout pause, the smile drifting from his face.

“Ahh, hmm. Well. She’s my little sister alright?”

“Fuck sake,” you groan.

“No, no,” he protests, hands raised, “she’s the real deal, I promise. I’ll get you guys in touch tomorrow, she can help you pick up some gear while you’re doing the meet and greet.”

You sigh.

“Alright, alright, I’m trusting you blindly so far, why stop now?”

“There you go!”

You rub at your face with a bit of exasperation, hand meeting the smooth visor of your helmet instead. Your phone vibrates in your pocket.

“One second,” you tell him as you unzip the slim pocket, withdrawing the offending device.
>>
[Message from Clark]

You swipe at the screen, expecting the gloves to make operating the touchscreen difficult. To your delight, you find that the fabric doesn’t seem to impede your ability to interact with your phone in any serious way, and you quickly open the message.

[Be careful, tell everyoe you know (insert fake link here, 4chan is fucking retarded)]

With trepidation, you open the link. Your heart drops to your feet, and you feel a tremor of frustration flit across your brow.

{MEATGRINDER ESCAPES PRT CUSTODY, ASSISTED BY UNKNOWN PARTIES} reads the headline. You briefly skim the article.

“Blowout. You need to check this out.”

You hand the phone to him, crossing your arms

“Fuck. Fuck! Fucking shit fuck, this is bad,” he curses as he paces back and forth, “this is not good. This is really really not good. This is really fucking bad.”

“That’s the least of your worries,” chimes in a third voice from above you.

The two of you quickly look up: a figure in a non-descript black jumpsuit with matching featureless helmet not dissimilar to yours perches on the edge a building two stories up, bandoliers full of gadgets crisscrossing his chest.

“Eight Ball,” Blowout whispers.

I've been saying for a long time I wanted to go rapier + buckler mode.

Rapier would be less tacky than a normal sword and perhaps function a lot better considering our power boils down to "superhuman physical precision and efficiency" which would allow us to maximize the potential of the weapon without getting boned for no having super strength to swing it around with. However, as you say, lethal.

We could always just slap people with the flat of our sword if that's the way we go though, our power means that there's virtually no way in hell we'd ever accidentally cut someone. And since it would be made out of carbon-fiber crazy shit, we wouldn't have to worry about bending it out of shape or something.
>>
>>108350
I was thinking we abuse shit like caltrops or versatile shit like rope or chain into our weapon set up. Theres a shocking amount of uses for the latter two things and the former can be used to throw enemies off balance. Similarly pocket sand is always an option.

that said, Contessa can make her shit work with a smaller knife than this, we can make something like this work

>>109085
caltrops may be nice, but whats better is something I read in a john Ringo novel. it's a box that gets emplaced, launches fishhooks on thin lines in a few directions, pulls them taught, and uses them as tripwires. in the book they were attached to antipersonnel mines, but if we could get them on some FlashBangs or high speed smoke bombs they might be a cool application. more expensive, but potentially more versatile, though, if were SUPER LUCKY we can get a tinker to make a caltrop dispenser that works like Flechettes projectile dispenser...a theoretically infinite supply of them...

as to rope, well, because of my personal predilections I didn't want to be the first one to make that suggestion. a simple grapnel on the end would give us something more substantial to throw than just rope.
>>
>>109260
Collapsible short sword would be pretty pimp, but I think if we use a shield we should either (A) go small, or (B) go collapsible as well, just because we absolutely don't want to be weighed down if we're in a situation where the shield is useless, IE, fighting someone with super strength.
>>
>>109317
AND a collapsible sword wouldn't throw off the lines of our costumes.

regardless we want something plain looking I think, if only to offset the over the top look of Blowout(and bug him slightly)
>>
>>109336
I'm definitely a function over form guy, our costume is already pretty low-key, it wouldn't make sense to have a glowing deathsaber or anything.

Eight Ball crouches at the edge of the roof two stories above you, a black gargoyle silhouetted against the orange April sky. You can’t see what, but his arm is wound back to lob something down towards you and Blowout.

The alleyway is about five meters across, all sides strewn with disused dumpsters and bits of industrial waste. The graffitied walls are slightly stained by decades of rain, and are rough and worn with age. Fire escapes are scattered unevenly throughout the vicinity in varying states of repair; the nearest one to Eight Ball is about fifteen meters away, the nearest alley intersection another fifteen in the opposite direction.

Dodge the thrown thing, and try to figure out his weakness(es). Try to run towards the fire escape that would lead us to 8-Ball,and if possible we should throw him some shit,to distract him.
>>

"blow him out!"
then grab blowout and leg it while our ally drops da beats

That sounds good enough for now at least.

I thought about some other stuff, but we don't even know his power. Throwing stuff at him is dangerous enough. Also, the thrown weapon is really worrying me.

All you know about him is that he's got all sorts of gadgets; think Batman. Also, near-Batman levels of agility and fightan skills.

>>112671
Blowout is probably a Shaker/Blaster I think.
>>
It looks like the plan is:
>Attempt to dodge his thrown attack.
>Throw something back at him to distract him.
>Clamber up the fire escape.

You immediately lunge out of the way towards the fire escape; mid-air, you are slammed from behind by a shockwave and lose your balance, rolling to a hard stop halfway to your destination. You glance back even as your feet scrabble to propel you forwards. Blowout appears to have taken the brunt of the blast, and lies heaped against the dirty brick wall like a garish sack of blue and orange garbage. He stirs: alive.

You manage to regain your feet and keep running, bent over low to the ground. Thinking fast, you snatch up a chunk of broken glass and just as quickly wing it towards Eight Ball without breaking your pace, throw guided perfectly by your power. You don’t look back, but you’re sure the ersatz frisbee hit its mark. Using the distraction as cover you leap high into the air, hands latching onto one of the lower rungs of the rusty fire escape. Without waiting to pull it down, you start scrambling up, skipping rungs at a time in an effort to close the gap as fast as possible. You haul yourself over the lip of the roof, rolling into a low crouch as you do so; the dirty rooftop is strewn with non-functioning exhaust vents, and about halfway across you spot the top of a stairwell, door likely locked. Eight Ball appears to have recovered from your thrown attack and is settling into a fighting stance when you lock eyes.

>>
>>112893
Can we see his little glowing weakpoints? Might inform our decisions a little more
>>
>>112893
if it's a loose-gravel roof throw a handfull at his FACE, otherwise CHARGE.

SCAN HARD for armor mobility. we have no weapons or tools so we need to lock him up judo-style
>>
>>112893
"Hi. Quick question: me, him, or both?"
Get a little dialogue going while we study him.
Circle a bit but don't put him between us and Blowout.
>>
>>112910
This with distracting banter.
>"The hell was that for?"

Or

>"Three's company, don't you think?"
>>
>>112893
Run up the stairs and then attack him from the high ground when he follows
>>
>>112910
It'll take take an action: it's something you have to sort of focus on to really get the full effect of.
>>
>>112941
Should've been clearer: you're at the roof of the building now, the only way to go is across or down. The stairwell I meant was one leading down inside the building, with a door in front of it, like a rooftop access.
>>
>>112944
Banter a bit and try to get info while focusing, and try to protect/divert his attention from Blowout for a little while, while keeping our distance.
>>
It looks like the only thing gaining any major support is:
>Try to detect his weaknesses, using banter as a cover.

Give me 3d10 to see if you can lock something down before you're foced back into action!

Also, a tip regarding this system: it works best/fastest if you guys all give me a few things. I pick the ones that come up the most, put them in order, then assign dice rolls to them top to bottom. A more detailed explanation is found in the pastebin I linked earlier. Specific is good!

You copy his posture raising your arms in a loose guard, feet spread, centre of mass low.

“You here for me, Blowout, or both? Didn’t think I was that important,” you eye him carefully, looking for the pinpoints of weakness you could see, but couldn’t really describe.

“I don’t do banter,” he responds coldly. With a single deft movement, he draws and throws a grenade with either hand. You spot the move from a mile away and easily roll to the right without losing your focus on him. The flameless shockwaves kick up a cloud of dirt and dust, small particles glancing off your visor harmlessly.

“Fine by me.”

The intangible auras around him have started to coalesce into something more understandable: the insides of his knees and elbows, abdomen, and flank are less armoured to provide better mobility, and you’re not sure exactly what, but something seems off about his right arm, and not in a good way.
>>
>More battle plan!
Give me four to six moves or more, let's get some sweet combo action happening.
>>
>>113144
Rush him, elbow to to abdomen, seize the right arm, twist.

Possibly retarded, but if it works, it'll work.
>>
>>113134
Run at him, act like we'll strike high
Dodge the inevitable thrown object, by leaping over him
kick out the back of his knee, his arms fling up/out
Grab the one opposite the knee we hit, judo throw him to the ground, chest first
punch/break his ribs
>>
Also, I've realized that our power is basically over the top cinematic fighting.
>>
>>113144
>multiple hand strikes to the groin
>>
>>113134
Charge, begin a quick flurry of punches and kicks, aiming for the weak points if possible. Don't give him a chance to do anything. Keep an eye on that right arm.

You charge, feet pounding the dirty rooftop.

I really wish I had a weapon, you think as you lower weight, coiling in preparation.

Just as you begin to spring into your leap, you see Eight Ball’s hand flick, a spread of small metallic balls whizzing in your direction. You manage to alter your jump to carry you out of the path of the projectiles rather than over your foe, but still catch a few to your lower body. You grunt; the little balls hit far harder than they ought to have. You absorb your less than perfect landing with a roll, wincing from the repeated battering your legs have taken so far. You shrug it off and lunge across the small gap remaining between you and the black armoured villain. You let your power loose, and your body practically guides itself: a sharp jab to the flank, a flurry of open handed strikes to the face and neck to disorient, followed up by a sweeping kick that strikes him hard across the backs of his knees.

He lurches forward under your dizzying assault, but you don’t let up. A heavy, backhanded strike turns his stumble into a fall. Eight Ball lands with a muffled thump. He rolls over onto his back, and you respond by dropping onto him elbow first, joint digging deep into his soft-armoured gut. He makes no sound, but you can feel the fight go out of him. The hazy orange sun glints off his helmet, now sprinkled with dust.

Keep beating the shit out of him, bad enough that he'll need medical aid. Just kick him when he's down.
>>
>>113662
Hm. I don't support this. We shouldn't create enemies this early. If we are going to strike someone when they're down,we should first be sure that no one is going after us for it,and go for the kill. Just knock him out and go help Blowout. If he'd be a "little offended' when we asked for more intel before a job, just imagine how pissed he'd be because we "didn't help him out with that freak".(Is this metagaming?)
>>
Keeping your elbow firmly planted on his abdomen, you relieve him of his bandoliers. You get up, keeping your eyes on his prone figure as you scramble back down the fire escape, gadget belts slung over your shoulder.

You find Blowout slowly staggering back to his feet; you offer a hand and help him the rest of the way up.

“Thanks,” he grunts.

“Don’t mention it,” you shoot back, lifting his arm up over your shoulder, “where’s your bike?”

He points towards the alleyway intersection, and you help him limp towards it as fast as you can. You round the corner, and see the familiar blue tarp. He pulls the tarp with a stagger, revealing the slick blue and orange motorcycle beneath.

“Leave it,” he gestures towards your trophies, “Tinker shit. It’ll have trackers, booby traps, probably both.”

You are loathe to part with such valuable equipment, but something about Blowout’s uncharacteristically brusque and halting tone sways you. You toss it into a nearby dumpster, returning to find Blowout slumped over the bike, semi-conscious.

There’s no way he’s driving anywhere like this, you think, frustrated. You heave him up onto the back seat and he manages to slap a button that extends a seat belt around either side, keeping him in place. You mount the front of the elegant vehicle; it had been a few years since you’d driven a motorbike. Even then, that was just dirtbikes out in the field: this is a high-performance monster. You tentatively rev the engine.

“Where am I taking us?” you ask over your shoulder as you start rolling out of the alleyway.

No response.

“Fuck it,” you grumble as you cautiously make your way through the narrow alleys and onto the street, putting as much distance between you and Eight Ball as possible. This whole situation is shit, and it’s starting to piss you off.

You roll out onto the street, rush-hour traffic well dispersed by now. What to do? You could take him to a hospital, but that’s risky: there’s no guarantee they wouldn’t turn one or both of you over to the PRT. You think about taking him to your apartment for a moment as well, but decide against it. You’d rather keep your home off the grid when it comes to capes, even friendly ones like Blowout.

You divide your attention, keeping an eye on the road while trying to assess the damage done by Eight Ball’s stun grenades. Your power quickly gives you a readout: at this point, Blowout’s entire body is a weak spot. His injuries, as far as you can tell, won’t be long term. You breathe a sigh of relief.

After a five or so minutes of getting a hang of driving the powerful motorcycle, you pull into the parking lot of a dirty motel tucked between a divey looking bar and a run down tenement. The sun is even lower in the sky, on the verge of giving up completely into the darkness of night; long shadows flit to and fro in the dusky twilight. You hoist the unconscious villain out of his seat, supporting him as you open the grimy motel door.

The lobby is small, and looks about as cheap as the exterior does. Cigarette stains mar the ceiling, and nothing short of napalm would get the rug clean. A sallow, disinterested man in his mid thirties sits behind the desk, boredly flipping through a copy of Sports Illustrated. You approach; if your costumed visage intimidates him, he makes no display of it.

“One hundred a night for capes,” he says with little emotion.

The board behind him lists the nightly rate at 48$.

“Fuck. Alright.”
>>
You fish your wallet out of one of your belt pouches and thumb out one hundred dollars in tens, twenties, and a fifty.

Blowout’s gonna owe me for that one.

You take the key offered by the clerk and shuffle towards the stairs.

It takes you a little while, but you eventually manage to carry your friend up the two flights of narrow cement stairs, down the hall, and into room 301. Even with your standards set low, you’re disappointed by the room. A dingy double bed, a handful of ugly furniture in an ill state of repair, and an ancient tube TV are strewn about, dirty curtains pulled back from the window. You heave Blowout onto the bed, and then flop into one of the chairs. You’re glad for your high-tech costume; you wouldn’t have dared sit down on it in your street clothes.

“Fuck.”

In the chaos of the fight and subsequent flight, you’d left your street clothes behind. More importantly, you’d forgotten the case you use to carry your costume around in. Not particularly valuable to an enemy, but annoying to go without to say the least.

“Fucking shit,” you sigh as you pull off your helmet. Blowout is out cold, giving you a chance to massage your hot, sweaty scalp.

It feels like everything is moving at the speed of light. You were kicked out of your house in Calgary, moved to Rain City, had a trigger event, had a casual conversation with an incredibly powerful hero, made friends with a supervillain, beaten up two others, and now are poised to rob the richest man in the city, all within the space of two weeks. You hang your head between your legs, running your fingers between your wet hair.

“God damn.”
>>
You look over to Blowout, lying face down on the disgusting bed, rise and fall of his torso with each breath being the only movement. You take a hard look at him with your power, trying to abstract the way you analyze a foe’s weaknesses. None of his bones appear to be broken, fortunately. He will however, be pretty bruised and sore for a good few days. You rise, and look out the window. The sun has now slipped below the skyline, neon lights of the city replacing the dirty orange glow of the late day. To the north, you can see the skyscrapers of Centre Island and Downtown pierce the clouds, lights twinkling against the dark horizon. You look a bit closer, and see that some some of the twinkling doesn;t seem to be following a pattern. Pink, green, green, pink, green, sporadically rising and falling and moving every which way throughout the air. That would be Decider and Snakehead going at it, you assume. Even with Blowout’s bike, you wouldn’t get there before it finished. Even then, what the hell would you do?

You look at your phone: half past seven. You’d been lost in thought for a while, it seems. You look again to Blowout’s snoring figure.

You people do know that the PRT puts literal murders as probationary members. Hell, shadowstalker maimed several dozen people and killed at LEAST one before she got taken down and still became a member of the wards, and would have made PRT had she not suffered an unfortunate psychotic breakdown, assaulted her family, and tried to kill herself.
>>
>>114455
The full extent of her crimes was never uncovered by the PRT though. They didn't know she was as bad as she was. And they still arrested her before making her a ward anyway, so your point is moot.
>>
>>114481

My point is our worst crime is participating in a fight club, in fact thats our only crime, other than that we're in the clear.

All of you seriously overestimate our fame and importance. We're small fry to a far greater extent than you realize.
>>
>>114481
Ehh they "knew", they put a lot of deliberate effort into their ignorance, because, yanno, people to arrest, endbringers to fight
>>
>>114518
So if I only steal small shit like packs of gum, the police won't arrest me? Good to know.

Seriously, if the PRT show up to arrest an established villain like 8-ball and see us there too, they're not just going to let us walk away. At the very least they'll try and get us in the Wards.

>>114528
No, they didn't know the full extent, because the full extent was her keeping steel tipped arrows and trying to kill other capes. She wouldn't have been allowed to be a Ward if they knew about that. It majorly hurts their Endbringer fighting forces.
>>
You sigh, and shake your head. You can’t very well leave him here alone, who knows if someone else might come for you.

You start the stretching routine you learned at your martial arts class on Tuesday. On top of your fight with Belts, Eight Ball’s gadgets have only compounded the soreness in your legs. The stun grenade was one thing, but those little balls are what are really throwing you for a loop. Each one felt like a sledgehammer: how? You grunt as you stretch out your muscles; despite your power, your body is definitely not used to this kind of heavy strain. After a long period of warming up and fully stretching, you start to practice the motions learned both from your class, and from your ad hoc Youtube lessons. You’re not sure exactly how, but as you practice each move you can sense how to use it in a fight, how the muscles need to move, how each idea can be altered on the fly. It’s a bizarre feeling, but definitely not an uncomfortable one: like solving a series of math problems, when you’re sure you had no idea how to even begin.

An hour goes by, and then another half, and the movements you find yourself doing now are completely different than the ones you began with; you’d subtly transformed and recreated new ones without even thinking. The unconscious work of your power was almost unsettling. Your body, especially your legs, grow wearier and wearier.
>>
You decide to take a break: best to not completely exhaust yourself. You have a growing sense of angry unease in your gut, not a feeling you are quick to discount. You sit back down by the window and unlock your phone.

You idly flip through your social media, only half interested. Pictures of friends from back home enjoying the start of their summer break, tanning, relaxing in the hot Alberta sun. Apparently Rain City gets quite nice once the summer starts in earnest, you recall hearing. So far, it has yet to compare to home.

You decide to browse the internet to pass the rest of the time. For a while, you glance through your non cape-related boards. You find it hard to engage in inflammatory discussion over {-4 STR} and {How do I achieve Legend mode?}, drawn more and more towards /ca/. You find it so strange, reading through threads about your cape identity. Blindside is definitely still small potatoes compared to the big time villains, but it’s at least a name people recognize. Spotty rumours about an aerial duel between the Protectorate and Snakehead’s gang, the White Collars, over the city abound, but they range from the bizarre to the obviously false. You gloss over them for the time being. You switch over to PHO, hoping to find something more concrete. You put in your earphones, listening to some music while occasionally refreshing the much slower ParaHumans Online Rain City threads. Blowout stirs causing you to nearly leap out of your seat, but you sigh and sit back down when he simply collapse into a snoring heap once more.

“Hmm?”

You scroll down to the bottom of the page.

{Looks like Blindside’s bit off a bit more than he can chew. Wonder what he’ll do?}

Below the post is link to the CBC News website. You open it, and a cellphone camera video begins playing. The background is a dim room, hazy with what you imagine is cigarette smoke. A single figure takes up the bulk of the shaky shot: you easily recognize the barbaric red mask. Meatgrinder.

“Listen up Yellow Scarf, this is a message for you!” his voice is like a lawnmower driving over a whole roast chicken, “You got me arrested and messed my gang up, now I have to break a whole bunch of people I don’t even hate! You meet me at my ring tomorrow night and we’ll see how tough you really are, no more sneakin’ around! Don’t think ‘bout bringin’ the PRT neither, or things’ll get ugly, understand?”

You can see the camera operator flinch, the shot wavering. You can guess that they’re not filming this for fun.

“Eight o’ clock!” he barks. The video ends with an enormous, rough hand snatching up the cellphone.

“Ah, fuck.”

Shadowstalker is neither here nor there. They took in Skitter, who killed both the Director of the PRT and a member of the Triumvirate. I think they'd be lenient on us considering we have actually provided a service by helping turn in Meatgrinder.
>>
>>114562
You're missing the point of what I'm trying to put in plain text for you, so I'm going to spell it out for you

THIS IS NOT BASELINE UNIVERSE. OUR RULES DO NOT APPLY HERE. CAPES HAVE PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE GODDAMN CAPE POWERS. THEY GET AWAY WITH SHIT NORMAL PEOPLE CAN'T AS A RESULT. IN SOME CASES THIS CAN LITERALLY INCLUDE MURDER.

IN ADDITION: WE ARE SMALL FRY. WE CAN EASILY BE KILLED BY ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY IS WORTH MENTIONING, AND MANY WHO ARE NOT.

First, Contessa and Cauldron were 100% behind that decision, and even then she had to serve hard time while not Heroing, despite the acknowledgement that one killing was self defense and the other was under heavy emotional duress. Second, I never said they wouldn't. I just said they'd arrest us. They'd almost definitely drop all crimes if we agree to join the Wards, and even if we don't they'd only hold us for a short time, low bail, none of the works. But they'd still make that initial arrest. Just like the police would still arrest a guy for stealing a pack of gum.

>>114596
Bro don't be dumb. All I'm saying is that they'll arrest us. They could let us go the next day and I'd still be right. What you're saying is that they'll see a cape who has associated with villains and fought in an illegal ring, and they'll just let him go without trying to get him in the wards. That's retarded. Don't be a retard.

I'm looking at this from the perspective of what they would be willing to stake on bringing us in. At this point with Meatgrinder and LazerSnake on the loose, both Blowout (who is relatively harmless to public safety) and Blindside (literally who gives a fuck) are almost non-issues.

If we keep our head down, stick to non-violent crime, and don't rock the boat, we can trust that beyond primary retaliation the PRT won't go after us specifically.
>>
>>114681
Oh shit you're right. Protectorate then.

>>114688
I never said they would. I said if they go after someone like 8-ball, and we happen to be there, on the scene, in plain sight, likely fighting 8-ball, they're not going to just ignore us.
>>
>>114709
Once they show up, we run. As long as they want 8 more than us and they weren't expecting us there, they won't pursue, and at worst they'll split one cape off.
>>
>>114728

Honestly, knowing the PRT they'd rather blowout win the gang war also. Blowouts activities are far less violent, hold a positive PR, and if it wasn't for all the robbery he'd actually make a pretty decent rogue performer (why is it that every rogue concept ends up being music).

Speaking of, I have a question for OP. >>114598

Blowout does sound based attacks yes? Does this mean he could theoretically wield The Brown Note against his enemies?

PRT aren't the Protectorate. They're the unpowered squads with hardening foam gear. They'd bring a lot more than 8. True, we could almost definitely evade them anyway, but they'd still make the attempt, which is all I was saying.

I eagerly await the day a Stranger or Master tries to mess with our head and fails because of Mental Resistance. Mostly because of how we will probably be entirely oblivious to it.

>>114771
That reminds me, we should see about acquiring some of the solvent to dissolve the foam, maybe even getting a way to secrete it from our costume.

Meatgrinder's challenge makes me wonder about getting some annoying ranged weapons and tricks to bring in there. Most of them should be based around stalling, so my initial thoughts are Bear Mace, improvised caltrops, flashbangs are out of the question but the old ping-pong ball smoke bomb trick works. We need time to analyze him for weaknesses, so anything that is suitably hindering to movement and attack works.
>>
>>114850
Smoke bomb wouldn't be good, it seems like our power requires sight. We'd be as cut off as he is.

okay, just to hash this some more so we can get the discussion over with in time.

WHAT WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT GUYS?
we mostly have small pouches but The Tailor could probably arrange for the integration of things like sheathes and so-on

I was thinking this for a usual load-out.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
2 extendable Batons
2 large knives or short swords (one anon suggested a genuine Rapier, which I could get behind if we weren't shaping up for fighting as dirty as possible)
one gauntlet-deployable shield(perhaps 2 if we find an amenable tinker)
a 50 foot spool of climbing rope(with automatic respooler, and remote detaching grapnel socket)
1-4 grapnels fitted for the socket
1 pouch full of the urticating hairs of an assortment of tarantulas or similar creatures(definitely beats Pocket Sand) or a can of pepper-spray
at least 1 electric Stun-Gun/Tazer (unless we can get those built in as gauntlet accessories)
1 crowbar or pair of small bolt-cutters
4-13 throwing weapons such as grenades/knives
a small pouch of either skittles or marbles for distracting very stupid mooks

how does this sound for a loadout guys?

What about tonfa? Maybe have the longer ends pointed in case we ever need lethal means.
>>
>>115242
especially if we can get them lead-loaded.

>pointy on the long ends
I can never imagine that working terribly well.

I think they actually do make side-handle extendable batons, but it's unlikely that we could get them in a nonsuspicious way I bring up the collapsible ones specifically because of on the body clutter, cause the next set of things to worry about is where on the body we keep all of the stuff... which means my list in >>115199 is too long, so we need to limit it down from there or develop ArmsMaster levels of tiny-tech
>>
>>115271
I think being nonsuspicious goes out the window the moment we put on the costume.
As for pointy on the long end being a bad idea, yea, probably.
As for >>115199
You could probably limit it to our hand weapons, (blunt OR edged. Don't need both), a handful of thrown weapons, and some form of pocket sand or skme shit for dealing with invisible opponents.
Everything else gets taken out in a case by case basis.

Besides, I'm sure all the crap we've bought already would look plenty suspicious added together.
>>
>>115331
how so?
our parents bought the apartment

we've probably bought a bus pass and a few pre-paid lessons in MMA, some booze, some food. if we paid for the costume at all it could easily have all been in cash or favors so there's no real paper-trail there.

sure, there are ways around that, however, we don't have access to those as of yet, we may have a Fixer in The Tailor but as far as we know he may only be a costumier and not an outfitter.
>>
>>115199
That sounds like entirely too much weight, to be perfectly honest.
We don't have brute strength, or superhuman stamina, so 30-40 lbs of assorted bric-a-brac is just going to be too tiring and too mobility impairing.
1 knife, 1 pepper spray, 1 handgun.
>bag of spider hair
Where will we find the time to shave all those spiders?
>>
>>115357
I'd argue closer to 15-20 pounds depending on designs. less if we go for singles on the batons and knives(I like the symmetry so I tend to assume dual wielding) and cut the throwables down too and if we don't go nuts with the bolt cutters.

>hairs
itching powder is made from those...if even a little bit gets in the wrong nook or crannies in an enemy suit we've put a distraction someplace they cant get at weakening them as a whole. pepper spray may also be good

>>
>>115794
You mean go in half-cocked with only a semblance of a plan, then come up with it as we go? We are, having more weapons and tools opens up more options for improvisation.

We should look at any footage of Meatgrinder fights we can so that we know what we are getting into and possibly find a weakness. The advantage we have is prep time, and Meaty made a mistake by giving us that. Looking into the fundamentals of some martial arts can help us to effectively combat his strength, but the big hurdle I can see is his durability. Once we have the specs on that power, this might just wind up as a battle of attrition, and the itching powder and pepper spray will make that pitched in our favor.

Here's our to-do list.

from the OP "Likes to charge his opponents like a bull"

maneuverability is what we want, also rope, or chain especially ones we can detach from ourselves so we can trip him up but we don't end up as his new flail
>>
>>117433
Yes, but I'm hoping our power works on video. Even if we can dodge him reliably, we can't retaliate without figuring out how his durability works. Is it like the Nemean Lion, or is it Alexandria package?
>>
So guys, why can't we use blowout to just weaponize the brown note and win like that?
>>
>>117481
I get the feeling that that would cause meatgrinder to set his capes on us as well.

4 to 2 against us is bound to fuck us pretty hard...
>>
though, we might draw up a note that reads something like

"MeatGrinder will be [at this location] at 8:15PM fighting Blindside, you might swoop in after the fight; not before or people might get hurt"

and pass that on to any protectorate cape we happen to be in arms reach of. that way, even if he murders us BRUTALLY, he still gets caught.
>>
another thought for throwables may be BOLAS
>>
You guys know that the Protectorate aren't dumb right, they'll likely show up also, especially seeing as meatgrinder is an escaped fugitive. If we hold him long enough they'll show. Alternatively we could just not show up, that would be the sane choice, especially since we have no incentive other than "lol street cred" Note: Street credit, despite being nice if your a criminal, doesn't mean much for us as of now and it likely never will.
>>
>>118227
>especially since we have no incentive other than "lol street cred"
it could be argued that we also have "principle" as a potential incentive.

that, and Meatgrinder may have hostages in remote locations.

additionally, while the challenge was made publicly, the location of the ring was not declared, so the PRT wouldn't know where to look
>>
>>118285
If he had hostages, he probably would have mentioned having hostages. Leverage is useless if you don't freaking use it!
>>
Also, he said not to bring PRT, he said nothing about the wards or protectorate capes.
>>
>>118314
it could be argued that "things'll get ugly" was an unspecified threat which could include civilian casualties.

and before you say that he isn't that stupid, remember that he employs Belts as a commander
>>
>>118337

I assume that meant that if we invite the PRT he'll go all out and actually try to kill us, which is a line most capes avoid crossing. Cape killers get hunted down aggressively usually.
>>
Hes literally only threatened a negative situation if we bring PRT, hes offered no real incentive to actually show up other than MUH BUSHIDO CODE HONOR
>>
>>118371
no I meant that he may have his gang just go out and kill some people if either.

A.) we don't show up
or
B.) the PRT does

then it's just Gang Violence and doesn't get pursued the way that cape violence does.

>>118383
fair point perhaps, however, whats to stop him enacting his negative reinforcement if we don't show up?
>>
>>118391
His failure to specify anything, or the fact that he doesn't know our moral code enough to even assume we'd care.

That and if he starts killing people the PRT actually WILL crack down on his ass and he knows it.

Even the S9 couldn't keep the protectorate out of there bullshit.
>>
>>118406
it could be argued that the S9are a special case.

again if the Redboys do the killing it isn't a PRT matter its a law-enforcement(organized crime) matter. he isn't a master slinging compulsion, at that point it doesn't matter if he has powers or not he's just the guy passing the orders.

think back to the bureaucratic nature of the PRT and most any police department.

it may be a legal fiction, but its one they'll be forced to follow along with or else get torn apart by any kind of competent lawyer.
>>
>>118452

The S9 definitely ARE a special case.

The average group can't get away with cape killing without everyone fucking them up.

Granted, gangs are often an exception, although we don't formally count as a gang member yet.
>>
>>118521
I wasn't saying we're a gang-member.

I was saying that MeatGrinder could call for the red-boys to kill people and/or use those hostages to get away from the PRT.
>>
>>118549

He could, and then they'd gun for him even harder because now the government and public are pressuring them to do so.

>>
>>118945
Why did we get our powers? We tried to help the little guy. It was dumb, impulsive, and reckless. We could've died, but we did it anyway because that kid needed our help. I see no difference in this scenario, we need to fight Meatgrinder because it is the right thing to do and if we don't then he will never stop hurting people.

But you know, that's just my two cents.
>>
>>118314
>>118336
>>118383
He isn't a fucking lawyer, obey the spirit of the threat not the wording. "Get help and I'll make you wish you hadn't". Otherwise I would say that leveraging Blowout's contacts and waking him with some smelling salts would be a good idea. But at this point it isn't.
>>
>>118945
>Risk/reward ratio blows.
arguable.

reward is a higher quality of neighborhood both in terms of safety and security.

that simply makes it bad as opposed to horrendous
>>
all that not withstanding, what equipment could we realistically get a hold of in the next 24 hours worth of game-time?

pepper spray may be a top on the list

Rain City is !notVancoover, right? I don't know about Canada, but in the states, you can get mace in camping stores because 'bears'. Maybe also Canada? They have strange nonsensical weapon laws, so I dunno.
>>
>>119093
Chain, some broken glass, knives (I doubt it'll work but why not), aluminum bat (same). Bear mace is meant to be sprayed at something that is charging you and we might as well be fighting a bear, so that might be better than just regular pepper spray.

>>119104
I guess, but anon was referencing risk/reward ratios, which is the last thing I think Blindside would do. Just because we're a Thinker doesn't make us the Number Man.
>>
>>119128
Well, concealing a weapon apparently, but we're already planning to break that law, so why not.
>>
>>119128
thats why I was asking for Canadian outdoors retailers several threads ago.

look at their websites and see what'll be on the shelves in a real Canadian Tire, Mountain Coop or other country specific store.
>>
>>119167
Canadian Tire allows purchase of bear spray by anyone over the age of 18, no papers needed like Coop, so it checks out. About $45.

Mountain Co-op has some pretty slick gear for climbing such as screws to put loops in rocks (I do not climb, so forgive my lack of terminology). This led me to look up chain also. Using the two of these in tandem with some stones would provide working bolas. $50 to make five of them.

All the chain necessary to loop up Meaty real good (20') along with shitty carabiners. The shitty carabiners won't support our weight, so no risk of tossing about. $25

Glass is free, a bottle to hold it in will be no problem considering our hobbies.

Found a good baseball bat for $50 at Canadian Tire.

$170 for a bat, 5 bolas, some bear spray, and chain.
>>
>>119448
>(I do not climb, so forgive my lack of terminology)
no worries, those are called Pitons

you can buy much much stronger 'beaners than the shitty keychain kind but for cheap chain we could walk into a hardware store

>$50 baseball bat
WTF was that thing made out of? crystalized human blood?

that said, it's a pretty good loadout considering it's on the spot nature
>>
>>119526
>WTF was that thing made out of
There are cheaper ones for toddlers, and made of wood, but for busting up people you want aluminum. The point of making sure that we had the keychain carabiners was that if MG grabbed a chain and threw us with it, chances are it would break instead of keeping us secured so he can throw us. I really want to get a red cape to be a jackass when he charges, but that may be too much smug for one man.
>>
>>119581
high strength 'beaners for the bolas as a central portion is what I was thinking.

>red cape
if we can specifically get a bull-fighters cape just for this even I think it would be perfect...might be we put that yellow bandanna around our arm, just to provoke him MORE
>>
>>119599
I didn't think of making the stones detachable, but that may be a good idea. Getting a bunch of yellow fabric and cutting it into a cape would work, then we could draw the three eyes from our helmet in black and maybe a bit of text saying something dumb like "Better dead than red!"
>>
>>119657
that might be a bit overboard, we kept the bandanna from the club he'll fixate on it, it's a splash of colour.

might be we sub out a red cape for a yellow one. might make a good collection for our trophy pile(still wish we'd kept the umbrella)...

I'm now suddenly imagining a closet full of seemingly pointless items that all secretly have meaning to us as proof of our capabilities. a yellow scarf, a bullfighters cape, a plain crook-handled umbrella.

like if we ever get a new costume or a redesign we put the old one in the closet, memories...

in either case, meatgrinders temper might well be his most glaring weakness, perhaps if we get him enraged enough he'll make the slip up that gets him put down...

tonfa would go on back sheaths on either side of spine. Arguments could be made either way for which way the short handles should be but I think high would be best so that they rest on shoulder blades.

Short sword could also go on back sheath along the spine. Should propably have an articulating hinge or material between tonfa and short sword sheaths.

Standard K-Bar type knife could go on front sheath on offhand breast as seen in recent tactical loadouts.

Throwing weapons like knives or short arrows/bolts could go on upper arms/thighs as seen in Arrow.

Butterfly knives or other large chopping type knives could go on standard waist/thigh holsters similar to Old West gun holsters.

Rope weapon could go around waist like a belt or off side on a waist holder like Indianna Jones' whip.

Garrot wire could be conealed on boots at ankle level or in hidden compartment built in to soles.

Ball bearings for throwing or tripping could be held in belt pouches are slight larger pouch(es) across belly. Wanna be crazy: have a claymore mine there, properly reinforced, of course.

Simplify. Get a primary, say the tonfa or the sword, a few knives(balanced for throwing), and leave it at that. We arent a tinker, and we don't have access to one yet, so leave the fancy shit at the door.

It's not like meathook is an A.I.

And if someone is that determined to find out who we are it doesnt matter of we buy tonfa or gen-you-ein kat-ah-nuhs.
Could always just get a library card under a fake name and order it at a public computer.

Like I said: to be crazy, it was just a thought that occurred

Any of it could be switched out for less Oorky- I mean choppy. Rotary doodad would depend on us finding a reliable Tinker. I'm basing most of my ideas of us going back to the costume maker with ideas.

I was thinking about that same spot with that same reference. For the none choppy idea, we could go with lead cored heat treated wood batons/eskrima. Possibly the rebar reinforces concrete plastic bat idea. For the choppy option: I personally like the black and steel chopper in the picture above.

I know the one, my father calls that type of thing a "corn knife" and claims that basically everyone had one in his little farmtown growing up, literally you would go out to a corn field with one to get part of dinner among other tasks...

Never meant to imply that MeatGrinder is the one finding us. If a suificiently advance program can read patterns in search history, correlate it with appearances of powered individuals, it would be a pretty bomb ass way of getting an idea of even the general area where they might be. if nothing else, everything you do and your neighbors do is funneled to the network box at the end of the street or in the building, the same box your ISP uses to manage who has their internet service and who doesn't. Granted I am getting this general idea from the recent House of Cards season, but I work in IT and this is not too far off of what's capable in the real world. Throw in the likes of Dragon if she wasn't so locked down, and it is definitely possible.

I think the garrote is a bit much.
however 2 sets of primaries may be helpful. it's an unfortunate variant of the "golf-bag full of swords" issue you get anyplace where things might have damage reduction to one thing but not another. we see weaknesses, but we need an array of ways to exploit them.

that may be leading us to extremes, but by the same token. we do need to be ready to take someone down in whichever way we can. as was said earlier, we're a low-powered hero but anyone can get more power and more choices in combat. if a stab is unsuitable we need to bludgeon, if physical harm isn't useful we need chemical or electrical. if they Move we need to take that from them, if they hit hard we must deprive them of targets, preparedness is what we need to NOT DIE in the cold, dark, violent world of Worm....

I am appalled that nobody suggested a good flashlight...

>>120391
yup that one.
>>
>>120318
good thing this is all part of the brainstorm session at the end of a dead thread. not like we are in the store at the moment. Not like anyone really remembers or actually sticks to the plans made at the ends of threads. Some do, maybe even you, but we're all just talking.

Also, you say redundant like it's a bad thing. Heaven forbid we have options and backups for when choice one fails or gets taken because it works too well.
>>
>>120406
>I think the garrote is a bit much.
Commando Saws are like $2 at any sporting goods store. They work as garrotes and can be used to escape if we are ever handcuffed to something. It's not like we have nowhere to put it.

>>120318
>useless redundant shit that wont get ised most of the time.
Like the chalk dust Skitter carried, or the smelling salts, or the pepper spray. I mean, what's the harm so long as it doesn't impede us and we can afford it.

>>120409
Too true.
>>
>>120409
Fare nuff

And redundancy isnt bad, but useless weight is.
And beforw you say "x doesnt weigh much",
Lotta soldiers nowadys don't carry sidearms anymore. Any weight that you arent carrying is good weight. Shit adds up. Especially if we'd be fighting while carrying all that shit
>>
>>120460
I honestly don't know how much the stuff weighs. I do know that weight distribution plays in to things as much as overall weight which played in to some redundancy in symmetry, my bad on that.

Keep the tonfa and sword on the back. Arguably good primaries if we need a bludgeon or edged approach, yeah? also, this is like 5-8 pounds?

keep the throwables, say 5?, on each thigh. maybe 3 pounds total.

a roughly 8 foot rope with ball on the end can be a pretty deadly weapon, gets around shields, wraps up weapons, goes around corners. Can also be used to wrap up legs like a bola but also provides us opportunity to pull legs out from under someone. ball be maybe a pound, pound and a half, rope MIGHT double that.

Mace and light on belt pouches. plus whatever else. We could do with a small hand crowbar, good for hitting things or obvious utility, could go across lower back.

on the subject of weight.

the unloaded shotgun on the left weighs SIGNIFICANTLY more than the sum total of the things on the right.

that weapon weighs at most 7.5 pounds(3.4 kilograms) empty.

QUIT BITCHING ABOUT WEIGHTS UNLESS YOU CAN POST UP SIMILAR COMPARISONS

thats 180 feet of rope I use to LIFT BOATS with, 1 mini crowbar, 1 thirty-two inch extendable baton, 1 extra heavy machete, 1 saber, 12 throwing knives plus a not so ergonomic carry-case, and 1 reasonably heavy combat/survival knife

AND YES I KNOW MY CARPET IS ATROCIOUS.
>>
>>120630

No but seriously what defunct Wyoming off highway motel did you rip that out of?

Also that's a very good point about weight limits
>>
>>120650
the carpet came with the house, on the plus side of things, so did the full sized slate-top pool table.

I got irritated by the tendency of people here to overblow the weight issue...
>>
>>120668
Weight does matter, though, especially when you're doing backflips and shit.
>>
>>120709
it does, however, at the level of weight we're discussing, distribution plays a larger part than overall weight of the total equipment(provided we do not go over what we have on our crazier lists)

What do you guys think will be our second trigger?
Something related more to our weakness sight, like being able to predict the opponents movements? Or something to supplement our main ability like a simple strength upgrade? I personally hope for something that would fit the whole having to train our body motif. Like developing our body faster and removing the limit on how much we can develop it.
>>
>>120630
I mean, I wasn't going to say anything, but you brought it up, bruh
>>
>>122903
Pretty sure in our power description it mentioned being able to chop battleships in half so I think we don't exactly have what you'd call limits.
>>
>>123212
>>122903

Found the exact quote: "Okay, so first power: Resistance to mental attacks. Not much of a power in itself, but can easily be thematically combined with others.
Second: Weakness detection! We can find physical weaknesses in our opponents, and if we spend some time studying them, mental and even Power-based weakness.
Number three: taking the second set of rolls because the initial result doesn't really work. Martial supremacy! This power allows us to take our fighting ability to superhuman heights, turning even an untrained fighter into a dangeours opponent. For a trained martia artist, this power could be used to karate chop a battleship in half."

Also I hadn't realise how quickly QMJim had improved, not bad progress for 7 threads.

And as for second trigger, it's usually emotion based, so the rage-filled feeling of helplessness - "But it’s a different kind of rage, a measured, sharp instrument like you’ve never experienced before."

Losing a fight completely, getting stomped into the ground, being unable to save someone we want to, anything like that could serve as a suitable trigger.

As for second trigger power development, it could be anything really. A few quickly spitballed ideas could be ignoring all pain and effects of injury when in combat, terminator style continuing through impossible wounds, simple brute abilities like massively enhanced agility and strength, or more unexpected like a development of our powers into seeing mental and emotional weaknesses to expand on the mental resistances, or possibly something even stranger like stealing the martial prowess of people we are fighting/have beaten. A prescience ability is possible, as you have pointed out.

Second triggers usually seem to take the old power and twist it slightly, giving more of a new angle or tool than a simple increase in raw power.

That said, a second trigger is either a long way off for us or something that may not happen at all - they are quite rare and would probably be a major plot point. Or alternatively, if we were dumb enough to turn up to the Meatgrinder fight, it could be pretty damn soon.
>>
>>123255
I know second triggers are rare, but they don't have to be something too extreme, I mean, on the one hand you have Grue who had a really extreme trigger event, and on the other you have skitter who had her second trigger right after the first, for something kind of minor.
I don't recall any other second triggers though.
>>
>>123276
>being suffocated in bugs is minor
Sure you aren't misremembering her second trigger? It's pretty damn horrific, if slightly weak in comparison to horrendous unimaginable pain. Can you imagine the feeling of being locked up in the dark almost drowning in bugs?

They're pretty major events, like most triggers in fact (ignoring second and third gen, for obvious reasons).
>>
>>123288
The bugs didn't actually enter the locker, I think it was just the foreign feeling of her new power combined with being stuffed in a locker full of used tampons.
>>
>>123316
On some quick research, you're right, they do not. Consensus seems to be that the Number Man was right, in which case the trigger was intense sensory overload, something widely described as traumatic enough to cause flashbacks iirc, or other theories include being eaten by Echidna (I don't need to describe how terrifying that is) and being trapped in a burning building by Coil.

But yeah, triggers, second triggers especially, are usually pretty extreme, disregarding second and third gen capes because they cheat. And the specific situation and emotional state we were in are luckily(or maybe not quite so luckily since they're pretty shitty situations) quite common feelings in the business we've found ourself in.
>>
>>123360

their is also multi-triggers, which are even rarer than second triggers.

Thats when one persons trigger causes other people to simultaneously trigger. Its very rare and results in a whole bunch of very similar power sets.

And also the end goal of the shard cycle as it marks a shard branching into multiple shards from enough acclimated data. Of course on Earth this was meaningless because The shard cycle was fucked to begin with because Scions partner lost several components she needed, went a bit crazy, and almost immediately got put down.
>>
>>123853
Well yes, I am aware of multi triggers, since, y'know, I've read Worm

Thankfully we didn't end up with that - would have been awkward if the thugs we were beating up suddenly got powers.
>>
>>123872
might be they picked up different forms of "OH SHIT RUN AWAY"
>>
>>123888
SOMEWHERE OUT THERE THERE ARE FRESHLY MINTED PARKOUR EXPERTS EXPERIMENTING WITH BACKFLIPS THEY NEVER NEW THEY COULD DO!
>>
>>123872
Usually takes a bit more than that to trigger, but heroes who didn't know what the fuck they were doing or who used a power a bit too aggressively have, in the past, caused people to trigger. Notable incidents include the kid with an effective "sandpaper treadmill" shaker power in the Lausanne campaign. Grues triggering, quite a few people who triggered from Scion or the endbringers, and Invictus in the Cleaveland campaign.

Note: Triggering from a cape vastly increases your chance of developing Trump powers, in fact most trump powers occur specifically during power related triggers. Torturing people with your cape powers is a bad idea.
>>
>>123921
I don't know, worked out plenty well for lots of asshole capes. Bonesaw had quite a good gig going for a while.

As a side note, why are trump powers usually so boring?
>>
>>123940
>As a side note, why are trump powers usually so boring?
cause they depend wholly on there being another cape nearby, and are otherwise vanilla mortal.
>>
>>123940

They aren't always boring Examples include an individual who was hemokinetic and could use there blood to mimic powers of other people in x vicinity. It also could ""infect"" other people she hit and allow her to sense them and use there own blood as a weapon, usually resulting in people dying horribly and bursting like a wet paper bag. Was triggered because someone broke out of a birdcage van and brutally murdered and ate a PRT agent on her vans windshield.
>>
>>123984
What's with your habit of spoilering random crap?

And it's kinda sad how underused that catagorey was in the serial itself - the only even close to relevant trump I can remember was Hatchet Face, although that may have something to do with my efforts to forget large portions of the ending and middle parts of Worm.
>>
>>124028
Hatchet Face, Grue, Jack Slash, Eidolon, Glaistig Uaine.

Honestly I feel like it being underused is a good thing - Trump powers are a little incestuous.
>>
>>124198
Eidolon counts as Trump? Makes sense now I think about it really. Had completely forgotten Grue's Trump development and had forgotten Gailstig Uaine existed, which is a shame because she was one of the only good things to come out of that part of Worm.

It occurs to me, I've been assuming that rain city is !notVancover, but op keeps talking about the local protectorate (USA), not guild, (can). So, is rain city actually!notSeattle? Also, did OP ever specify when this is taking place? We know our hero was born in '95, and is at least 18, so its at least 2013....
>>
>>125390
I thought protectorate was US and Canada.
>>
>>125390
I'm also curious as to whether this is before or after the events of worm, or if they're even canon to this quest.
>>
so, anyone think meatgrinder is gonna cheat if we turn out to be better at this than him?
>>
>>125390
To be honest, I'd entirely forgotten about Guilds. They're barely ever mentioned, and it's also mentioned that Protectorate has presence in both countries.

>it's 2016!
Timeline isn't terribly important so far, don't worry <3
