In the late seventies through the early nineties, drug violence in South America only continued to escalate. A successful revolution by the IRA in Ireland encouraged similar revolts in central Africa that devolved into decades-long civil wars, and a USSR faction in the Russian government. Human trafficking for both the organ and the sex trades exploded between south-east Asia and eastern Europe. In the face of such chaos, government run militaries and agencies were too caught up in red tape to be effective in combatting these threats. Traditional armies abdicated their throne as international super-powers, and turned it over to the world of private military contractors.

Thirty years later, the private military industry is a widely accepted fact of life, a necessary evil for the security of the world. While many people in the civilized world resent these men for what they represent, they are also aware that they need them, lest the world fall into the hellscape that it was once again.

You are Jan Kowalski, a Polish special forces operator turned private military contractor. In return for cash and other liquid currency, you, and men like you go places national militaries can’t, and that local police forces won’t.

Last time, on Contractor Quest: You got yelled at by your HR rep, chose a mission, explored the base a little, did some training, and bought some new equipment.

You pack your duffel and make your way to the airfield. The plane is already there, running as if it were waiting for you. Tiffany, your handler, is there chatting casually with three other HR personnel, and waves as you arrive. As you step out of your vehicle, you see a tall, well-built man with his hair in a bun walking up the steps to the small private jet, carrying a black duffel bag similar to yours. As you walk up to the plane, Tiffany breaks away from the group to meet you, and another heads for his car.

“Hey, Kowalski,” the purple-haired desk jockey says as she meets you handing you a thin manilla envelope. “This is the mission dossier, full of the mission briefing, known intel, and where to meet the contact. Devin is already here, and the other two should be showing up soon. Got any questions?”

>Do you have any questions for Tiffany? She will be able to answer different kinds of questions than your teammates will on the plane.
>>
>>111967

Anything I should know about my teammates on this one?
>>
“Anything I should know about my teammates that they might not tell me themselves?”

She seems to roll her answer around in her head a bit. “Devin, the one already here, avoids alcohol like the plague. He’ll appreciate it if you don’t offer him drinks or anything. Jordan, one of the guys about to show up, has some ‘holy avenger’ thing going on. Not preachy or anything, but sees it as his duty to punish evil. Kinda comic-booky, that way. He and Skyler are thick as thieves, and if Skyler didn’t hit on me so much, I’d swear they were gay. That’s about all I can think of right now, though.”

You thank Tiffany for her time, and get on the staircase to the plane. You turn, and see a sleek black motorcycle pulling into the airfield, and a Hummer checking in at the gate near the entrance. Probably the other two, then. You duck in through the door, and see the large native american man getting his bag squared away before he sits. As he turns to face you, you catch a glimpse of three long scars running down the side of his head into his face, the rearmost of which looks like it took most of his left ear off. He flashes you a smile and a small wave, and takes a seat.

You do a similar series of actions, and as you sit down yourself, the two Rangers, you met in the bar the other night walk onto the plane. You realize, rather ashamedly, that you never exchanged names. They recognize you and give you a wave each before settling in themselves.

The pilot does the typical pre-flight announcements, and you take off. There’s quite the flight ahead of you, and you’ve got time to kill.

You swap seats over to the one across the aisle from the Rangers.

“Hey guys, I’m Kowalski. Just realized I never told you at the bar,” You start.

“Yeah, we kinda noticed that as we got on the plane,” the shaggier haired one returned. “I’m Skyler Thompson, and this is Jordan Raines”, gesturing towards the one with the crew cut. Nice to see you again. What made you decide on Jakarta?”

You think about your answer a moment, and shrug before replying. “The other ones either didn’t pay worth a damn, or were in the middle of the desert. I got out of the desert three months ago, and didn’t feel like going back quite so soon. So, looks like Jakarta to break up a traffiking ring was the best choice. How about you guys?”

They share a look before Skyler answers. “About the same. Wanted to make some dosh, and didn’t feel like spending time in a cat box. Jordan has some reasons of his own, but he those are his, and he’ll share them if he wants.”

You turn in your seat to face Devin, sitting a few rows down.

“Hey, Devin, right,” you ask, getting a small nod in return. “Feel like sharing why you chose Jakarta?”

He smiles, and moves closer to your little group to chat. “I do best in urban environments, and of the options my handler gave me, Jakarta was the best for that. Of course, I’ll also do just about anything in the tropics, if I get a chance. I like the people and the scenery.”

You figure that’s as good a reason as any, and probably a better one than ‘I don’t like deserts’. You’re probably going to get along pretty well with these guys.

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I back this guy, but ask what everyone else does for jitters
>>
You ask the group what they do to help with the nervousness. Skyler and Jordan both answer nearly in unison, saying they just sleep it off. Devin replies that he pours over any maps or other information that he can get, and will even look up extraneous items on his own.

You excuse yourself from the conversation, make your way to the back of the plane, and start to prepare yourself for the mission ahead. After your poor combat performance in Bogota, you’ll need a bit of prep time for the Jakarta mission, which is sure to be much more combat-heavy. In Poland, you always found that the best way to get rid of any jitters was to just run over scenario after scenario in your mind. Not so that you’d be ready for anything, but so that you’d be flexible and willing to adapt to anything that came up.

You really buckle down and focus, relaxing your body and mind. It must have worked pretty well, because you snap back into reality when the pilot announces that you’re circling the airport, and will be ready to set down in a few minutes. Looking around, you see that Skyler and Jordan are both asleep, and Devin is going over the dossier in his old seat.

Thanks!

Post should be up in a few minutes. It's a longun
>>
You gently nudge Skyler awake and point out the window. He thanks you for waking him, and starts a similar process with Jordan. You grab your equipment bag, and motion towards the seat directly across from Devin. He nods, and you sit down.

“What are we looking at, here? I haven’t gone through the dossier yet”, you ask of him.

He turns the pages around so you can read them while he speaks. “Looks like they’re in the warehouse district, close to the docks. Intel suggests they have a few different warehouses close together that they use for the operation. Photos on the ground and from the air shows people going in and coming out all the time, but the quality isn’t high enough to tell if they’re the same people. Lots of trucks going into all of them, far too many to all be people and not raise suspicion. Odds are, they’re dealing in a lot more than just flesh. This part of the world does a lot in drugs and guns, so odds are, there’s going to be a lot of resistance. Montgomery’s people haven’t been able to get inside, so we don’t know what the layout is. The guess is, though, that it’s pretty standard. A large storage area, and a few offices and stuff. Some may have been converted into holding cells or barrack-type buildings, though. That’s about all I’ve been able to gather, so I’d ask Montgomery if you have any other questions. He’s supposed to be meeting us at the airport.”

You finish up skimming over the dossier, and thank Devin. The plane lands and taxis into a covered hangar, where a portly man with a ridiculous shirt greets you.

“Hello, lads,” he says with an accent nearly thick enough to see. “Right on time, which is pretty impressive for Indonesia! Hop on in, and we’ll take you to the staging area to make some sort of a plan,” he says, gesturing toward an SUV near the entrance.

The five of you make some small talk as Hank drives through the twisting, crowded streets of Jakarta for some time before stopping at a private pier, and the group makes it’s way over to a houseboat with a giant british flag flying above it. Henry ‘Hank’ Montgomery seems to all the world a wealthy british businessman making his retirement worthwhile in South-east Asia.
>>
Stepping through the door, that is very obviously not the case. Maps, photos, and scrambled writings cover the table and walls, and you see more than a few photos of Topan, often with a trio of what look like Russian mobsters.

He grabs one of the maps, and lays it over the table. “They’ve got four warehouses. I haven’t had any luck getting anyone inside, but guys watching the place say people will enter one warehouse, and leave another. I’m going to say they’re probably connected by underground tunnels or something similar. Topan, the leader of this little gang, will most likely be in the warehouse with the girls. Like I said, no idea which one that is. He’s got those mobster thugs with him any time he’s at the docks, so I doubt claiming the bounty will be a piece of cake. They’ll be a lot more capable than whatever street trash he’s managed to hire for the warehouse floors.”

He grabs a handful of photos, most of them of men in uniform. “Police are paid off. They take the money, and stay the fuck away from those warehouses. That’s the deal. They probably won’t interfere unless you let things devolve into some ridiculous firefight.”

He goes back to the map, and starts drawing on it. “There are a few ways you chaps can go in. If you’ve got quiet guns, you can sneak about and take them by surprise a handful at a time. You could go in guns blazing, but who knows what would happen to those poor girls if you did that. Or, since you’ve got someone of eastern europe with you, you could bluff your way in. I’ve been having my guys drop hints that a higher-up in some new mob has been asking around for girls. The grunts wouldn’t ask any questions if you show up and ask to see some ‘stock’, but anyone who knows what they’re doing will ask questions. It’ll take quite a bit of bullshitting, either way. Or, if you have better ideas, I’m all ears.”

But we should put a priority on takin out Topon first via sniping him or blowing his car up.
That bounty is way too big to pass up.

I'm throwing in a vote for Stealth. We were SOCOM, so imo we should be pretty good at stealth ops and shit.

>>
>>113150

At the risk of sounding like a Clinton, I'll stick with stealth to break the tie
>>
>>113161
Maybe we can take acting lessons if we want to bluff our next mission.

So now we should figure out how to hit both the warehouses and the bounty.
Maybe if we hit the target's car when he enters the no-police zone, in a kill box we've prepared by neutralizing any sentries they've got.

And maybe ask our team if they're equipped for taking out targets quietly.
>>
>>113205
Well we have a silencer but again the sound is still loud so we could only use it very specifically
>>
>>113361
Nail strips to stop the car, thermite to burn through the roof and kill anyone inside, shoot anyone that tries to open the car doors?
I wonder if we could get a commercial grade air compressor and nail gun, would they be quieter than gunshots?
>>
>>113467
We did bring some money
>>
>>113467

I would hold off on the property damage A) because there are recoverable innocents inside said buildings and B) our dossier specifically said to limit the use of explosives
>>
>>113205
>>113467
Bluffing will be part of the Charisma stat, and maybe that plan is something you should talk about with the team

>>112527
Bluffing would just get you into the complex and close to the girls. You would still need to find Topan, kill him, and most likely fight your way out. Killing Topan wouldn't shut down the operation.

>>113361
Silencers have improved a lot in-universe. Good enough that if someone isn't paying attention, or if something else is going on, they're pretty unnoticeable.

“I guess I geared up for stealth when I came, so I’d be alright with that,” you say, suggesting a plan for the group. “Suppressed MP5 with subsonic rounds. Anyone else good to go on that front?”

Skyler and Jordan both nod. Skyler, who seems to do all the talking for the pair, says “We both brought integrally suppressed AR-15’s.”

Devin just smiles. “Always,” is all he offers.

“Well,” Hank continues the conversation, “then there are a few options. If we go during the day, the guards will be more lax, but there will be more people around to notice you anyway. If you go in the middle of the night, there will be less people, but they’ll all be guards. Any preferences?”

“We should go soon. Those women are in a living hell, and we should get them out as soon as we can.”

The other three nod in agreement. “Absolutely,” Devin says. “We need to shut that operation down ASAP. All of it, not just the trafficking.”

Hank clears the table. “Well, let’s fucking get to it. Scum to kill, gangs to break up. Back to the car.”

He drops you off at the docks, guns in hands. “Don’t worry about getting caught with those right now. People at the docks don’t ask questions about well armed, angry looking foreigners. Oh, and take these,” he says, pulling out four small, hard cases. You take it and turn it over. Roughly the size of a cigar, it fits nicely in a side pocket of your vest.. “Syringes. You’ll need 50 cc’s of Topan to claim the bounty. So, no blood, no money. Now head over there and kill some locals.”

You walk briskly over to the warehouse, not giving anyone a chance to ask questions. Circling the complex, looking for a way in.

You’d think the warehouses for a crime empire would be kept up better. But, nope, a great big hole, right there in the wall. Big enough to crawl through, definitely. And no one watching it. If this wasn’t a beat up warehouse in the middle of the docks of Jakarta, you’d assume it was a trap.

You push aside a filing cabinet and crawl through and come out in what looks like a small office area. It’s unoccupied, but you have no idea for how long. There’s a computer on the desk, but it’s off and honestly, probably in Indonesian.

Through the large windows, you can see a large storage bay with the occasional scattering of large crates. A handful of people wander the boxes with clipboards in hands, but you don’t see any guards. There are catwalks ringing the ceiling, and while you’d guess that’s where any guards would be, you can’t see well enough to tell if anyone is up there.

The only door is out into the storage area, but the walls are thin, and you saw David had a hell of a knife on him. No one is near the door that you can tell.

You catch Devin’s attention and make a sawing motion at the wall. He gives you a nod of understanding, unsheathes the knife and makes for the wall. He saws a small hole in it to look through, and quickly backs away from it. He moves to the other wall and does the same thing, this time making a hole big enough to climb through.

The four of you make your way through the new makeshift door, and find an office very similar. The only difference is this one has an envelope on the desk. Jordan grabs it and digs through. Making a face like he can’t read it, he stuffs it in his pack anyway.

Looking out the window, the same people are milling around in the storage bay. From this angle, however, you can see a pair of guards on the catwalk, highlighted against the skylights.

Someone is walking by the row of offices row of offices, but you have no idea what their intentions are.

You motion silently at the man walking down the offices, and the team understands. As he passes the door and you’re all out of sight, Skyler knocks on the wall under the window, drawing the poor soul in.

The moment the door closed, Devin makes a jump at the man, the massive operator tackling the poor indonesian warehouse dockman to the floor, the equally massive knife pressed against his throat.

“Where are the girls, and where do the guards stay? Now, or you never leave this office,” Devin says, doing his best tough guy impression.

Of course the guy didn’t speak english. Why would he? He’s probably some piss poor guy trying to stay away from being a fisherman. Why would he need english?

Either way, through gesturing at the guns, some obscene motions that mimic the female anatomy, and, let’s be honest, some pretty fantastic charades, you make it clear to the guy that you need to know where the girls are, and where most of the guards are. Though, he did make it abundantly clear that there were likely more that he couldn’t remember.

You thank the guy, in your own way. Mostly, in that you just tied him up and left him in the office, instead, instead of hitting him, then tying him up and leaving him in the office.

Using a crudely drawn map, the guy did what he could. The girls are in the warehouse kitty-corner from you, as if there was anywhere else to be. The guards seem mostly to be either on the catwalks or roaming the perimeter, though he remembered a few that were on the warehouse floors. You didn’t manage to properly ask where Topan was, unable to really convey that question properly.

The guards are roaming the catwalks, and are now out of view. There’s no one coming that you can see, and you make the dockworker as comfortable as he can be while tied up with computer cords while under a desk.

High ground is pretty much Tactics 101. From it, you can see everything, have a better firing position, and are harder to see. Devin starts for the door, and motions for you all to follow.

You make your way through the warehouse floor, stopping occasionally when Devin motions. The man moves like a cat, hardly making a sound, even to your specops trained ears.

You reach the stairs of the catwalk, and nearly fall halfway up when your foot catches on a step. You stop yourself, and keep going. You come up on the middle of a catwalk, which completely circles the building and has a walkway through the middle. There are four guards, one on each corner, mostly fucking around and not really paying attention. Bad news, they can all see each other. If you’re gonna kill them, you’ll all need to take a shot. It’s about 40 feet up and loud, so no one on the floor should hear suppressed gunshots, or hear the dying if the shots are clean. Or, you could try to bypass them entirely and get into the next building from the catwalk

Rolled 74 (1d100)

You focus. You focus hard on making this shot. The man is in your sights. You know, you’ve checked four times now. You gently tug on the trigger, feeling the MP5 buck in your hands, firing three quick shots, hitting your target twice in the the chest and once in the throat. He falls neatly onto his back, the blood soaking into his shirt. It might eventually seep down and be noticed, but you’ll be long gone by then, you’re hoping. You look at the other targets, and see that Jordan had similar results, his man sitting against the railing wondering where these new holes in his stomach came from, dying.

Then you see the other two targets. Devin fired subsonic 9mm through a suppressed handgun, and while he hit his target square in the chest, he seems to have been wearing some sort of vest, and is trying to figure out why he can’t really breathe too well. You won’t have long before he recovers. Skyler missed entirely, his round punching a neat little hole through the skylight behind his guard, cracking it. That seems to have the guard’s attention right now, but sooner or later he’s gonna start wondering where that came from. You have to take them both out, right now.

>Round 1, over
>Jan: 1 dead
>Jordan: 1 dying
>Skyler: 1 window
>Devin: 1 vest

You nearly panic. You don’t though, and you take a deep breath. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. You place the man Skyler missed in your sight, and fire the moment that dot is over his torso. The rounds rip through him, and he spins, landing face down on the catwalk. The blood will drip down, but he’s in a corner, so it probably won’t be found for a while.

Jordan has about the same results. Subsonic, suppressed rifle ammo tear through that vest just fine, and for a brief moment he looks like he might fall over the railing. He doesn’t, though, sliding down the bars to come to rest on the grate of the catwalk.

The two of you turn towards the other pair, giving them your best ‘what the fuck’ look. Skyler gives you a shit eating grin, and Devin just whispers, “I’m better with knives”.

The catwalk is now clear, and the four of you decide your next course of action. You can go back down and rummage through the offices, or go into the building either directly in front, or directly to your right.

Devin speaks softly. “Might be some juicy bonus if we bring back information on where they’ve been taking or getting the people. We should go grab as many hard drives as we can carry. Just take the fuckers out, none of us can read it anyway. Let HQ deal with that Indonesian mess.”

The three of you agree, bonuses always on the mind. You make your way down back to the offices in much the way you came up, following the nearly silent Devin past the boxes, crates, and containers, stopping when he felt you were too close to someone.

“Split up. You have three minutes,” Devin says, before heading down to the furthest office. You make your way to one of the center ones, and begin taking out the drives, prying the cases open with your knife. This is being done fast and dirty, and it’s very obvious that someone’s been fucking around in here. The alarm is probably going to get raised sooner or later as someone wanders in. You manage to get three drives and a handful USB sticks in spare pockets from different offices before the others start gathering in front of the offices.

“We gotta move,” Jordan says. “Every second is agony and terror for those women.”

He’s probably right. What’s the next course of action?

“Damn right we do. Back up to the catwalks, try to cut or climb into the next building.”

The same route a third time. Devin doesn’t even have you stop this time, even though you crouch-walk right behind some guy talking on a radio, yelling things you don’t understand.

You make your way up the stairs just fine, and brings the group over to the wall that connects with the next warehouse. Devin, placing his knife on the wall, starts cutting a small hole. He seems surprised, and cuts two more, as if to be sure.

“The layout looks the same, but all the guards are in the far corner, drinking and playing cards. We could do anything short of blowing a hole through this wall and get through uncaught.”

The wall is cut open, and the four of you shimmy through, thankful for shoddy Indonesian construction. You are now in the center of the catwalk on the wall. The five guards are at a table in the corner, one of them asleep in his chair. Easy pickings if you want them, or should be easy enough to sneak by if you don’t. If they start doing their job, though, it’ll be impossible to miss the fresh man-sized hole in the wall.

What is your next course of action?
>>
>>115161
Take them all out, as stealthily as possible. We don't want them to flank us as we're trying to get the women to safety.

Given that they have rifles and can set up here, I think Skyler and Jordan should set up and cover Jan and Devin.
We sneak up, and time it so that the Rangers shoot and then Devin and Jan get in there knife the other two guards in the throat, then we kill the guy who's still sleeping.

Devin lays down a course of action. The Rangers are going to set up and keep rifles trained on the group, while you and Devin sneak your way up to the table to take care of them quietly. Devin hands you his suppressed pistol before taking a second, smaller knife out of his boot, holding it in his off hand. The five inch blade is respectable, but looks tiny next to the nine-inch behemoth in his other hand.

You and the Rangers set off in opposite directions, them to cover you, and you to get your hands dirty. Silenced Sig p226 in one hand, Ka-bar in the other, you make your way to the poker game, which is starting to sound like a lot of fun. Too much, probably, for the group.

As you get close, you notice one man look almost nearl at both you, and the massive, scarred native man, but his eyes are glassy, and he gets distracted when he apparently finds out he won the hand, collecting a pile of cigarettes from the center of the table.

You reach the group, and fly into action. You and Devin both lunge at the nearest man, your blades ripping out throats. You put a round into the chest of your second man, and he slumps over the table, staining it red. Devin is having a tougher time. His second man managed to get a rifle up, and while it was too long a weapon to aim and get a shot off, he is still using it to keep Devin off of him. The big man is about to start stabbing at his side when a neat red dot forms in the side of the head of his target. Looking over, Skyler is giving him a salute, which is returned. The fifth man gets a knife in his throat for sleeping on the job, and the four of you meet back up along the wall.

“The next building is where the girls should be,” Skyler starts, “and I’d bet good money Topan and the bodyguards are there too, if we want to collect on that bounty.” Jordan’s eyes harden at this statement. “Or, we try for more hard drives and intel in the offices of this building. Topan’s computer will likely have the best stuff on it, though.”

What is your course of action?
>>
>>115290
Almost look nearly*

Don't know how I goofed that
>>
>>115290
Let's get to the next warehouse, and take out Topon.
He has the biggest bounty on him.

Here's the plan:
We do the same we did here, sneaking into the next building via the catwalk.
Assuming we take out Topon and the guards, Devin gets the blood for the bounty, Skyler and Jordan rescue the women, and Jan runs back here to ransack the computers.

This way we have a plan so that we can implement it immediately upon neutralizing the opposition.
>>
>>115302
Yeah, clear the area so we have more time to act(loot stuff).
>>
Get through to the next warehouse, and start killing. Give me three rolls of 2d100 to get there, and to see if anyone notices.

NOTE: Opposition will likely be both tougher and more numerous in this building. Cutting though the wall may not be the best course of action. Feel free to suggest alternatives. there are skylights, and you can't see any guards on the ground, but there are sure to be some outside.
>>
>>115314
Wait, then let's check around here for the ladders to go up to the roof.
Check to see if there are any guards on the roof, first. Then, we secure the roof, and look in from the skylight.
We can use that to figure out the positions of everyone on the catwalk in the next warehouse, and plan our attack better.

Do we still roll 2d100 for that?

>>
“This will probably be a lot better guarded than the last two. We should do something other than blindly cut through the wall,” Jordan starts. “There was a ladder over by that wall up to the roof through a skylight. That seems like the best option.”

The group agrees, and makes it’s way up the ladder. The only other thing on the roof is a seagull that you scare off, and you make your way across to the next building, looking in the skylight.

There are roughly 20 women handcuffed to posts in the storage bay, in various states of both undress and bruising. You see Topan and two what you assume are his Russian bodyguards walking up the stairs to a second-floor office. There are 9 guards that you can see. 4 on the system of catwalks, two at each door, and one at the base of the stairs Topan just went up. It seems they’re all doing their jobs, and actually guarding the place. They seem more focused on the doors and the girls than each other, however. You could probably take them out with some skilled shots and luck.

The skylight you are looking through is unlocked, and there is a ladder down to the catwalk, though you’d probably be seen by two guards if you did it now.

What is your next course of action?
>>
>>115372
Set up shots from the skylight and take out Topon and his guards while they aren't prepared, then take out the other guards, going after the ones at the doors and stair first, then the ones on the catwalk.

By being up on the skylight, we'll have the sun at our backs and some cover to make up for the fact that we'll be silhouetted.
>>

>>115441
But if we don't take the shots as soon as we set up, Topon and his guards will be in the office and out of our line of sight.
Not to mention, they can call for reinforcements from the safety of the office.
>>
>>115448
Don't we want Topon alive tho?
>>
>>115468
Not really.
The bounty is for confirmed dead, and we need to extract 50cc's of his blood as proof of death.
No extra money for getting him alive.

I suppose we could take him alive and interrogate him for caches of money, weapons, and bank account numbers before we put a bullet in his head, but that's a lot of extra difficulty for unconfirmed profit.

I'd say that should be more a consideration for "He's hit enough for it to be fatal, but not hard enough to die before the firefight is over", rather than receive any actual importance in planning.
>>
>>115661
I think that will depend on how well we roll an maybe if hes wearing a vest.
>>
Rolled 74 (1d100)

Gonna start up here in about 10 or 20 minutes. Killing Topan now WILL result in a fire fight, and the tin sheet roof will provide literally no cover.

Also, story roll.
>>
>>116437
were someone to say watch from the roof while someone else find a way to peek in then once they have a peek hole and the others ensued no one saw it being made could we take the shot?
>>
>>116444
Just checking, because I just woke up and I wanna be sure I understand here: Send someone down to ground level to try to get while the rest of you cover from the roof?
>>
>>116461
we should wait for more folks to show up but, my plan would be something along the lines of have two up top and two below, have the ground floor do what they can quietly but then the two above provide support/cover once the guys on the bottom get engaged and bait the remaining forces into cover which in fact exposes them to the roof. the moment they get a few shots of get the fuck off the roof. Fortunately given we are in a warehouse the sound of people on the roof and the sound of gunshot from above would be totally muted by the fucking booming echo of the lower pairs firefight, they'd be invisible so long as they stay low and not reveal their silhouette.

The boys from above can also provide target designation through the headsets/radios i assume we have.
>>
>>116497
Looks like the plan now is have Jan and Devin 'go loud' and trick the guards into exposing themselves to Jordan and Skyler on the roof.

This would absolutely work, but remember you'll still have another four or five guards from the other warehouse, plus another handful patrolling the perimeter. This could easily get you outnumbered 4/5-to-1, which aren't fantastic odds, even with the skill differences. That's a LOT of rolls/shots coming at really just the two of you, every turn, until Skyler and Jordan get off the roof.
>>
>>116497
Oh, I missed a pretty important part there. The floor guys would be sneaking around, taking people out quietly, and the guys up top are for when they eventually go loud. That would work better, but the odds still aren't fantastic.
>>
>>116497
And how are the two who go to ground level getting there?
We can't use the ladder because they'll be seen.
Cutting a hole at ground level from the previous warehouse has the same problem.
Trying to attack from outside exposes us to the perimeter patrols when they hear the gunfire and orders to reinforce the warehouse guards.
>>
>>116522
That's just one guy versus the three others we had for the original plan last night.
I'm against this morning plan.
>>
>>116535
So the majority plan is put down Topan from the roof, and start the firefight from there? A good roll will have them not know where the shot came from.
>>
>>116548
It's the plan from last night that had no objections.
It has as much, if not more, support than >>116444
>>
forget my plan the majority wants the other...i just think we will be shredded because we are on a tin roof
>>
Okay, here's what I'm taking as the current plan:

Devin and Kowalski stay out of sight, ready to start shooting or running.

The rangers both set up at the skylight and take shots at Topan, then dip out of view, and then get into the building in the ensuing confusion.

That sound about right?
>>
>>116567
You still had two people up on the roof who would have been exposed in the same manner.
The guards in this warehouse are actually patrolling and paying attention.
And if we wait any longer then Topan and his Russian guards get into a defensible position in the office.

Also, gunfire at ground level, which is what would happen eventually in your plan, runs a high risk of the prisoners taking a bullet.
>>
>>116597
Are we getting into the building on the ground floor or on the catwalk?
If we are going with a distraction plan, could Devin use one of the dead guard's guns to fire off shots from one corner of te warehouse while Jan and the Rangers attack from the other adjacent corner when the guards swarm Devin's position?
Devon abandons the position immediately after firing, of course.
>>
>>116621
Just realized I didn't give you Devin's loadout. He is armed with the suppressed p226 we're gonna pretend I had you give back to him and a Saiga-12.

What happens after the shot will probably be in a separate post, with a new plan after we figure out how well the original worked
>>
>>116643
So we're still going with the Rangers taking down Topan and his guards from the roof, Jan and Devin sneaking in and doing stealth kills from the catwalk, entering from the adjacent warehouse? Or are we going in on the ground floor?
>>
>>116677
What I'm understanding as the plan: All four of you are on the roof, and the rangers take out Topan and try to hide before they get caught. Wait for everyone to panic and try to figure out what's going on, then slip down onto the catwalks in the confusion and that would probably be the end of the post, provided everything works out as planned.

That the same page you're on?
>>
>>116702
Getting from catwalk to catwalk through the wall won't really work because of how the building's made. You can try to slip down onto the catwalk before the shot, though. Or, some more scouting may find a window you can take the shot through if you don't get caught looking for it
>>
>>116702
No.
If all four of us are on the roof, then everyone (Devin with his pistol) should be firing, not just the Rangers.

Devin opens the skylight a little further, far enough to get your guns through. Topan and two of his guards are walking up the stairs towards the door, but still have quite a way to go. The target isn’t wearing any armor, but his bodyguards look like they’re wearing some soft stuff, probably rated for pistols. He signals that you and he are to shoot at Topan, and the rangers are to take a Russian each.

Topan reaches the door, and stops to unlock it, when you take your shots. The smg bucks in your hands from a three-round burst, and it seems like all three hit their mark, planting firmly in Topan’s back. He slams into the door and slides down, leaving a streak of fresh blood down the door. You see a pair of small holes form in the door very near Topan, Devin’s shot’s missing by inches.

The Russians are both hit as well, Jordan nailing his guy in the upper chest twice, and the throat once, dropping him like a bag of bricks. Skyler also does well, but puts one each into his man’s lower back and shoulder, his third shot shattering a window behind him. The second Russian is still alive, scanning the room while holding his AK in one hand, shouting to the dock the other guards. You have yet to see the third Russian, but with all the yelling, he’ll probably be here soon.

Your second shot is just as successful as your first, putting down the near guard on the catwalk before he can point out your position to the rest of the floor. Devin puts down the second closest guard, shooting him twice in the chest with his pistol. Skyler shoots at the guard at the stairs, but he ducks away before sparks fly off the staircase behind him. Jordan takes a shot at a third catwalk guard, and has similar results.

>Results
>Jan: 2 dead
>Devin: 1 dead
>Skyler: 1 gravely wounded
>Jordan: 1 dead
>5 guards out of commission, 4 still in action.

More will be coming from outside, and you don’t have long before they figure out where the shots came from. The roof will be a bad place to be when that happens.

What is your next course of action?
>>
>>116845

Everyone is scanning the floor, further proving that humans rarely look up. You use the confusion to get down onto the catwalk, putting down another guard while you cover the other three. Devin gets down first, aiming at a guard on the floor, but can’t get a good shot. He decides it’s probably best to not take the shot. Skyler follows, putting down the fourth and final catwalk guard. Jordan follows up, taking a shot at one of the door guards, yelling at someone outside and waving at them. He falls to the ground, bleeding and dying.

>Results:
>Jan: 1 dead
>Devin: 0
>Skyler: 1 dead
>Jordan: 1 dead
>Total: 3 dead. There are still 2 guards on the floor, a second door guard and the one that was at the base of the stairs, and it seems like there are more on the way.

Skyler speaks, whispering. “We should consider better cover. Looks like we’re about to have company.”

The remaining guards have figured out the shots are coming from inside, and are now taking cover outside the building, scanning for you. The wounded Russian has either passed out or died, but it’s hard to tell from here. You have the catwalks to yourself, and you can get into the office from the catwalks via a window, you you can go downstairs.

What is your next course of action?

The guards seem absolutely positive you are somewhere on the floor. They aren’t even checking anywhere else. The four of you make your way over to the office, and climb in after breaking a window. You pull Topan and the guards in, and relock the door. Devin pops open the cases of two computes, and stuffs one hard drive in his vest, handing another to Jordan. You drag filing cabinets up against the wall, creating a rough, mildly bullet-proof barrier and reinforce it by stripping the vests off the Russians, and pinning them between the cabinets and the freshly overturned desk. Skyler grabs the syringe of blood from Topan, and encourages you all to do the same in case some get broken.

Devin grabs a bare-bones AK from one of the dead russians, figuring it will be better for the distance than his 12 gauge. There is still one AK with three magazines and two pistols on the ground, a 1911 that you can see one mag for, and a FN Five-seveN you can see two for.

>Loot weapons? You can use looted weapons, but they will be dropped if you switch to either of your equipped ones. Or, you could exchange outright.

The third Russian has shown up, with him about 8 other guards, bringing the total enemy count up to 11. He is carrying a third AK, and seems to be wearing more substantial armor. He's also ordering a more organized search of the storage bay. He sends one man to check the handcuffs on the girls, who seem either terrified or totally in shock.

Course of action?
>>
>>117674
Prioritize taking down the Russian.
Have Jan switch his MP5 to the AK, and all four fire on the Russian to make sure he goes down.
The other guards have weapons that we outrange and outclass; they're not as high priority as the armored guy with the rifle who knows how to use it.
>>
I counted Jan firing his MP5 5 times throughout this fight.
That's 15 bullets.
>>
Rolled 63, 57, 4 = 124 (3d100)

I came up with the same. Looks like we're doing your plan. Give me 3 1d100's for Jan, and I'll roll for the other three.

Okay, writing. Rolling for incoming fire. This is the first round and you took them by surprise, so not everyone's firing.

Between the crude fortification and the high ground, they'll need to roll pretty high.
>>
>>117748
I guess Devin really should stick to knives and shotguns.
Or Jordan missed again.
>>
>>117748

Fuck I keep misreading that dice set up, that's my bad
>>
“We know who needs to go first. That’s steel armor he’s wearing, not the kevlar shit these guys had.” Jordan starts. “It’ll take quite a pounding if it needs to. We should all focus on him to start. If we get lucky, the rest might break and run off.”

Sounds like a good enough plan.

The four of you rest your guns on the desk, and fire through the window. Jordan misses his shot, it looks, but the other two get him square in the plate, putting him on his ass, destroying a pretty good chunk of his ammo.

Your shots shred his left leg, making it useless barring him being hopped up on meth or some sort of super-hero. He lets his rifle follow by it’s sling, dragging himself around to get behind cover.

The four of you duck behind the barricade as a torrent of incoming fire rattles against your fortifications. It probably can’t take much more of that, and sooner or later, something’s gonna get through.

>DC will be decreasing by 1 point per turn until there are 5 or fewer enemies

There’s shouting, and now the rest of them know where you are. Through a cluster of bullet holes, you see three men rushing towards the stairs, and the other 7 are taking cover in the storage bay.

What is your next course of action?
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

Story roll.

>>117822
No worries, it's an easy enough work around
>>
>>117846
Jan, Jordan, and Devin take out the ones rushing the stairs.
Skyler, take aimed shots at the other group of 7 to force them to stay in cover.

Are the stairs close enough that Devin's shotgun would be more effective than the AK?
>>
>>117901
The office is about 10 yards by 6, ideal for the shotgun.

Or, you and the rangers have a pair of grenades each. Just sayin'.
>>
>>117924
Well, that would be perfect against people in cover. Or rather for preventing them from wanting the cover.
Which would open them up to being shot at by three people, while somebody with a shotgun holds of the rushing ones.
>>
>>117924
How far are the women?
Is there a chance for shrapnel to hit them?
Are there any women in the storage bay, and how far is it (close enough we could throw a grenade where the 7 guards are taking cover)?
>>
>>117941
The guards are mostly near the door, and the women are on the other end of the building, with no direct path to them due to crates. There are a handful of guards near them, though. Little chance of accidental injury from a grenade barring a crit-fail
>>
>>117938
I wish we had a rock with us, and knew the phrase "grenade out!" in Indonesian.
Then we could psych them out of cover with a rock.
>>
>>117953
Devin switches back to the Saiga and turns the 3 charging guards into red mist.
Jan throws a grenade at the 7 guards taking cover.
The Rangers shoot any guards that run from the grenade.
>>
Rolled 96, 87, 87 = 270 (3d100)

This sound like an okay plan to everyone?

If so, give me 3 1d100 rolls. I'm rolling for the guys. First for Devin, then Skyler and Jordan, in that order.

Incoming fire
>>
>>118041
Huh. Post should be up, soon.
>>
>>118041
Shit. That's three shots that got through.
>>
Devin sets the AK down, leaning it against the desk. “I’m going to cover the door. One of you, flush the bulk of them out of cover with a grenade, and the other two shoot them as they run. Go.”

He kneels, shotgun pointed at the door. When he sees it move, he sends three shells through it, the buckshot nearly obliterating the door. A quick glance shows it did about the same to the men running up, two dead, and one tumbling down the stairs covered in blood.

You grab one of your grenades, and prepare to throw it. You pull the pin, and send it sailing through the air.

As the four men flee the cover, Jordan and Skyler gun them down, ending three before they can reach a new source of protection.

>Results
>Devin: 3 kills
>Jan: 3 assists
>Skyler: 2 kills
>Jordan: 1 kill
>Total: 6 kills, leaving 4 remaining combatants. Cover degradation stops.

The survivor of your grenade flush takes cover behind a new crate and returns fire, along with the three further in the warehouse. Between new holes in your cover and actually knowing where you are, the shots make it through. Jordan and Skyler both take shots to the chest, but a quick check shows their armor held fast. You feel like someone just kicked you square in the gut, and feel an intense pain in the left-center of your abdomen, and fall onto your back with a yell. You aren’t sure if your armor held.

What is your next course of action?
>>
>>118073

Get to (better) cover, assess possible injuries, depending on assessment either stop bleeding and return fire or just return fire
>>
>>118073
Play dead, move Jordan and Skyler to places in cover that don't have holes, while we check to make sure we're not bleeding out.

Is there another way out of the office?
Maybe Jan can keep the guards distracted while the others go around and flank them.
>>
>>118073
Stay down, see if there's blood. If yes, crawl to cover and stuff it with gauze or let that be done by somebody else while possible providing blind coverfire.
If there's no blood we should be good, at least for the firefight.
>>
Checking injuries, then returning fire while falling back to better cover.

There are two ways out of the office: the window you came in, which leads back onto the catwalk, or the door that leads to the stairs down to the floor. Which would you like to take?
>>
>>118139
Which one is exposed to the remaining guards?
>>
>>118149
The staircase. The catwalk offers little cover other than the office. If you can get down the staircase though, you'll have lots because of the crates.
>>
Rolled 18, 74, 54 = 146 (3d100)

By 'the office' I meant you could be on the catwalk behind the office, not that you have to be inside.

You can absolutely stay inside if you'd like though, there are only 4 men left and your teammates rolled well
>>
>>118213
>catwalk behind the office
Oh, then how about Jan and Devin take the catwalk out the back, then drop down to the floor while Skyler and Jordan keeping firing to keep the guards' attention.
Jan and Devin then loop around and hit the remaining guards from the side.
>>
Rolled 21 (1d100)

Story roll
>>
You dig a hand under your vest. You feel a dent in the armor, but no hole. Your chest hurts like hell and it’s hard to breathe, but you pull your hand away with no blood. You probably broke a rib or two, but that isn’t going to kill you. Just leave you pretty sore for a few weeks. You’ve had worse.

Devin has the AK back in his hands, firing a quick burst out the window, but doesn’t hit much.. Skyler and Jordan both put down a guard as they pop out to return fire, and you take down a third as he tries to switch cover.

The final man shouts something in indonesian, and gets no response. He hauls ass out of the warehouse, apparently having no interest in taking his firearm with him

>Combat over

There are no more guards on the floor, only the terrified women, dead locals, and shot up crates. Any other guards should have been here by now, so you should be okay.

The women are still handcuffed to their posts.

>Search the office for keys
>Search the floor for bolt cutters
>Call Hank to rendezvous
>Other
>>
>>118286
>Search the office for keys
>Other
Implement the plan from before.
Jan recovers drives, Devin fills up the other syringes if they're not full and secures weapons if they are, and the Rangers look for keys to rescue the hostages and call in for evac.
>>
Devin speaks up. “Jan. I want you to go back to the previous building, and grab all the hard drives you can carry. Find a bag or a box or something, if you have to. I’ll take the syringes and fill them up of Topan for the bounty. Skyler, search the office for handcuff keys. Jordan, I want you to search the shop floor for anything that can cut or break the cuffs. Get to it.”

You empty a backpack in the office and head over to the second warehouse, going a lot faster with anyone that will shoot you either dead or run off. You kick in the half-dozen office doors, and start popping cases and searching drawers. You leave the building with another 8 hard drives, and another handful of USB sticks. Between everything you’re bringing back, if there isn’t info on these then it was never recorded.

On your way back through the warehouse, you find the third Russian, a tourniquet still in his hands, half-applied before he bled to death.

You meet the other three on the shop floor, with Jordan and Devin cutting the handcuff chains with a pair of large bolt cutters while Skyler covers the massive door with a lootd AK The moment the women are free, they bolt from the warehouse, presumably home.

“Hank is on his way. If you want to grab any guns or anything, you should do it now,” Devin says.

You’ll probably only have time to open two crates before Hank gets hre. Or, you could grab a long gun and a handgun, if you’d like.

>>
>>118560
Aite hoss see ya later
>>
So how's the thread so far? How'd you like your first real taste of the combat system? Anything I should work on or stop? Things I need to do different?
>>
>>118707

I am liking it a lot, the tactical situation is handled well while still holding on to this universes flavor. The communication between the squad is strong and gives us a lot of options for responses which I can see affecting how the situation turns out. I can't say anything jumps out to me as needing to stop, perhaps some more environment descriptions/hazards would be useful.
>>
>>118707
Liking it so far. Can't think of much to improve on for now that wouldn't also slow things down.
>>
>>118707
I liked it but it seems like there wasn't a lot of risk. Maybe this was easy or maybe it will get harder later but...
>>
>>118990
This first one was kind of a trial run to make sure the system was going to work. Before long, enemies are going to be better trained and better equipped. Good rolls, solid choices, and steal thing made things easier. You killed half your opposition before they even knew you were there, which was dramatic in how much it did for you, I feel. 11-4 is a lot different than 25-4. Maybe I should also be a little less forgiving on failures?
>>
>>119030
Well I don't think our entire team should be slaughtered because if a bad roll, but maybe a stray bullet hits one of the girls or someone gets shot in an arm.
>>
>>119030
The problem is that with those kinds of odds, any failure is going to make it progressively more difficult.

A failure knocking a person on our team out of the fight is a lot worse for us than the enemy losing one of theirs.
>>
>>119030
Maybe to test out a harder system, we have Jan go through a simulation back at HQ.
Simulate what bigger enemy numbers, more skilled opponents, and better equipped opposition will do to our current team.
Also how worse failures will affect whether we can even survive such a level of difficulty without a more calculation-heavy system to give us more bonuses we can stack (cover, camo, time of day, weapon mods, armor mods, distance, preparedness).
>>
>>119091
That could be cool. Maybe a large scale paintball match or even some VR if the technology is there
>>
I'll try to do smaller, more equally matched engagements rather than ones where you just grossly out class a lot of enemies.

Does that sound like it will up the risk factor?
>>
>>119220
It will definitely up the risk factor.

Like I mentioned, maybe we should have a simulation run back at HQ to see if this will lead to more fun, and if it will slow things down as we need to get more details and be more careful in our planning to avoid a TPK.
>>
>>119051
Definitely something I'll try to do more.

>>119057
I think part of that problem is this is my first quest, and I'm worried about making too difficult? Looks like I'm too far the other direction, though.

>>119091
I'll play around with stuff like that, and maybe start giving you guys tactical options instead of just asking for plans of attack. Suppressing fire, falling back, bounding fire, etc.

>>119134
>>119241
I've been thinking about setting this 15-20 years in the future so I can play around with stuff like VR and a few other things.

Is that something you guys would be okay with, having this set some time in in the 2030's, rather than modern day?
>>
>>119251
Yeah. It could be cool to see what kind of cool things could be in 2030's America. Except the whole Xbox thing, unless they are still making them.
>>
>>119251
If it's decade in the future, I'd expect more drones and remote control things being available and prevalent.
>>
>>119274
That's something that could probably be toyed with. Or, if it's a bad thing, we could say militaries moved away from those kinds of things as war evolved into small-squad insertions rather than large occupations. We can do a lot of stuff like that. Maybe instead of doing a genuine thread Saturday, I'll do a sort of meta-thread where we figure out what you guys want to do with this.
>>
>>119303
Well after we get done with this mission, I am sure we could hammer the lore out.
>>
>>119303
By drones I mean little quad-copters and RC cars, that a rifleman in a squad would carry and use as a scouting tool.
Also things like SWORDS and other robots that actual militaries use to supplement squad firepower.

Small squads would find the use of drones even more important if there's not big military nearby that they can call on for help. Robots are expendable, durable, and don't need expensive pensions and medical support if they get wounded.
Just pull them into a workshop and have parts replaced, and they'll be good to go in the morning.
>>
>>119328
I'll do a little bit of world-building and throw it up in a pastebin or something, maybe. I'm also open to suggestions for that kind of stuff
>>
>>111956
>In the face of such chaos, government run militaries and agencies were too caught up in red tape to be effective in combatting these threats.

ok, but what's the real reason?
>>
>>119340
Boston Dynamics, instead of being shut down by Google, instead had its entire development team head-hunted by a group of PMC's that pooled their resources together.

Vulcan Technologies further refined their Big Dog and Cheetah robots, adding machine guns and 40mm grenade launchers to compete with Foster-Miller's TALON-2 series of combat robots.

They're not as good as a real soldier, but they're relatively cheap, expendable, durable, and can be repaired and re-deployed quickly.
Popular for these reasons among both state-run militaries and the bigger PMC's alike, who can afford the technical infrastructure needed to keep them operational.

Smaller PMC's prefer using quad-copters, RC cars with GoPro's controlled by Android smartphones, and other cheap alternatives you can buy from Amazon and Newegg.
>>
>>119388
Honestly? Because if they had been able to do it, this wouldn't be Contractor Quest. It would be Soldier Quest, which A), Would be a lot more technical, and I'd be getting stuff wrong CONSTANTLY instead of just usually, and B) Sounds a lot less flexible, and therefore less fun.

I will give you that the OP post is shit, though. I need to work on a new one.

You decide to test your luck with the crates, rather than go for a handful of cheap guns. You find a crowbar after a little bit of hunting, and use it to pry open a large crate. If it’s worth anything, they’ll probably be smuggling a lot of it, right?

You stick the end of the wrecking bar into the gap under the lid, and with a little effort and a lot of swearing, pop the top off. You lean over to peek inside and find… Porn mags.

Literally thousands. Illegal in the country of Indonesia, it would make sense that smuggling it in is good business. That isn’t really what you were hoping to find. Sure, maybe 13 year old Kowalski would be thrilled, but 27-year old contractor Kowalski has bills to pay and equipment to buy. Might be funny as a gag-gift to someone, but very low monetary value, back stateside.

You leave the crate, and wander into another section, hoping they kept similar items near each other and that you don’t stumble across another collection of nudies.

You pry open a second crate, your ribs killing you, and take a look inside. Knock-off electronics, with names like Epple, Soni, and Vicio. A few TV’s, a lot of phones, and a handful of laptops. Might be worth something in some seedy pawn shops, if you can stuff enough phones and tablets in the bag with your hard-drives.

>Hank is here, urging you to get in before the cops show up. Would you like to take anything from either of the crates?

Take some of those NICE magazines and an Epple. Any other crates?
>>
Fuck it. You struck out, and the contents of either crate don’t really seem worth it. You wish you had a couple hours in here, you could probably find something really worth your time.

The four of you clamber into Hank’s SUV, and you collect the hard drives and jump drives. All together, you collected about 22 HD’s and 13 USB sticks. There’s gotta be SOMETHING on these drives that tell about the other girls, and where they might have gone.

Hank peels away from the warehouses in a hurry, making a lot of unneeded turns to be sure you aren’t being followed.

When he’s satisfied, he brings you back to the airport, and leaves the keys in the ignition. He follows you onto the plane.

“You think this place is still safe for me,” he says in response to your questioning looks. “I was just seen with four well-armed foreigners, immediately before four well-armed foreigners attacked one of the biggest gang territories on the island? Fuck, no. I stay, I’m dead by this time Wednesday.”

You consider that an excellent point, and stow your bag before finding a seat. Where would you like to sit?

Devin. Create character with him
>>
You walk over to where Devin is sitting, and take a seat across from him as the plane lurches forward.

“So, Devin, how did you end up with Impact!?”

The scarred man looks up at you and smiles. “Most guys get in through the military. I never served. I wanted to go right into private. So, I bugged a few recruiters who never gave me a chance. After a few months of phone calls, emails, and office visits, I decided I was done doing it the nice way. I bought a bus ticket to Georgia, and snuck my way into McDaniel’s office in broad daylight on a Tuesday. He hired me on the spot.”

After seeing him move so silently under full combat load, it doesn’t surprise you all that much he could get just about anywhere in civilian clothes, including the personal office of the owner of Impact! Solutions.

“That’s impressive,” you say back. “How’d you get so good at it?”

“Well, the short of that is, my dad was a convicted felon. No firearms. But he loved hunting deer, so he just did it with a knife. When I got old enough, he started taking me with him, how to move silently through a forest. When you can sneak up on a deer in the woods, people become easy. That’s actually how I got the scars on my face,” he says, turning so you can see them. Wickedly thick and about nine inches long, they claimed most of his left ear and very nearly his left eye, missing it by about a quarter inch. “I was out hunting alone with a bowie knife, and I got attacked by a mountain lion. Fucker jumped on me from a bluff, and I never saw it coming. I have a set to match on my lower back, too. The big bastard is currently my favorite blanket.”

Well shit. That’s quite the story..

Anything you’d like to talk to Devin about?
>>
>>120021
Go into the cockpit or maybe ask him about those tri-bladed german trench clubs from ww1. Maybe he knows how to get one.
>>
>>120021
So if people are easy to sneak up on, is that why he usually does better on urban-ish ops?
>>
>>120021
Maybe trade survivalist stories about hunting trips in the polish forest(they were just camping trips, but he doesn't have to know that. Ham it up a little) with Jan alone, in the unforgiving polish winter, with nothing but his knife and his wits to make it back to society.

Or, you know, just ask him some general Skill : Survival pointers. Never know when making a roof out of mud and a few sticks could come in handy.
>>
>>120021

Hunting in the area, it doesn't seem like we've been in America for long and being into hunting seems like a pretty common piece of backstory for a SF soldier
>>
“Better with knives. Always equipped for stealth ops. Makes sense, now,” you say, nodding.

“Yeah, I never really even used a gun until I hired on with Impact!. I learned pretty quick, though.”

“So, do you still go out hunting with your knife,” you ask. “I did a little in Poland, but that was years ago.”

He shakes his head. “Not often in Georgia. Once a year or so I’ll head up north to Montana or Idaho or something, or maybe back home to New Mexico to get deer or elk. I bring a handgun, now, though. You only need to be attacked by a cougar once to be sick of it.”

That makes sense, and you’d believe it. The two of you spend a couple hours swapping hunting stories, but you may or may not have beefed some of yours up to keep pace with killing a state-record elk with a combat knife. Just for the sake of conversation.

Devin says he’s going to try to get some sleep, and you thank him for the time. Now what?

“How are you guys doing? I saw you both take hits in the office, you doing okay?”

“Just some nasty bruising,” says Skyler. “I’ll probably be sleeping on my back and taking it easy for a week or two. What about you? You took one that put you right on your ass.”

“Didn’t go through, but I think it broke a rib anyway. I haven’t had the nerve to look, yet,” you reply.

“Fuck, dude,” Jordan chimes in. “That sucks. You should go straight to the med wing when we land. The debriefing rule gets waived if you’re wounded. Or you could just call your handler to your room.”

“If Tiffany Murdock was my handler,” Skyler chimes in again, “I’d find any excuse to be alone with her. You’re a lucky sonuvabitch, Kowalski. I got stuck with fricking Bradley Vetter.”

You roll your eyes and turn towards Jordan, who isn’t in some imaginary hotel room with your hander.

“They can’t even really do anything with ribs, can they? What’s the point in going to medical if they’re just going to tell me to take it easy for a few days?”

He ponders his answer a moment. Slow and methodical in just about everything. “They can wrap you and give you pain meds, if you want them. Or maybe they got some experimental stuff from a pharma company. They have a few product testing deals, if you’re willing to be a guinea pig.”

>Mission complete
>Primary objective: Complete. +5,000 USD
>Secondary objective: Complete. +4,000 USD
>Possible data recovery. Bonus TBD.

Brings you guys up to 11,400 USD. Thanks for playing folks. I'm gonna figure out the archive here.

And thanks, everyone, for all the feedback and suggestions. I think I learned a lot from this thread. Can't wait to see where you guys take this.
