"I'll show those peasants on the other side of the magic mirror... I'll show those beasts in the Wyld! I'm true royalty, and I'll do whatever it takes to get what's mine!"

You are Avaritia, Princess of Envy, and that was your solemn declaration as you gazed out into the black abyss that dominated the sky, devoid of anything at all. Idly, you fantasize about different clusters of stars and heavenly bodies, the shapes they would take. Maybe once you're in the other world you could take some or if there's a book in the Librarium on how to make your own. Doing either would probably take things you don't have just yet...

The Mandrakes, witless plant people that they are, aren't really good for much right now except physical labor. You definitely deserve better than a handful of glorified janitors and a fussy old butler!

"Still, it's not all bad", you think as you idly trace your twisted horns. At least your second foray into the Wyld had gotten some results. You frown bitterly "Definitely better than the first try...".

But now's not the time to think about past defeats! Instead, let's think about future victories, like...

>Checking out the village you glimpsed on the other side of the Mirror

That's right, those little people on the other side, living happy lives with families and sunlight and little, rounded ears!

But Strix, the old scarecrow, had worried about the enemies you might find if you journied into the other world. But you can't stay cooped up in the castle with only servants and monsters for company!

You march out of your room and to the throne room, with your meager, incomplete throne sitting next to your Father's much grander seat of power. On the way, you tell your caretaker about your intentions to...

"Of course, my Princess. But please be careful. As it is now, only you are able to use the Mirror, so I will be unable to send help beyond watching you. Should you need to return to us, you will need to draw on the powers of your Father's magic in the Vice Gem in your chest."

You nod and look towards the mirror and its rapidly shifting view. If you wanted to explore the village and its people, you'd need to focus.

>Low Success!

You look deep into the shifting haze of the mirror's surface, gritting your knifelike teeth as you grip the magical mirror's gilded frame tightly, driving your Vice Power through it.
You WANT to see this place! You crave it! You dive deep into the emptiness that fills your core and let it spread out over the ancient portal, slowly solidifying into a spot just outside the quaint little town.

>Envy, 45/100

But even as you succeed, it starts to eat away!

You need to go through now, before you lose the picture!

With nary a goodbye, you throw yourself horns-first into it, an inky feeling washing over you... and then darkness.
Dark...
So very dark...
Like the Abyss that holds you in exile...
And then, you open your eyes to something you've never seen before for yourself.

Sunlight!
....
AGH! IT HURTS TO LOOK AT!
You flail (gracefully) on the dirt floor of the forest just outside of the village, kicking up grass and leaves as you rub your eyes clear of spots.

Ugh, that was not okay...

But now that you're here, you need a plan. You doubt that you could just waltz through town like this. People would just start fawning and bowing and get so overawed that they'd be useless!

It's only their right as peasantry before true royalty, but it wouldn't be helpful at all!

No sense wasting the energy, not when you can just slink around in the buff without anyone noticing you.
Probably.
Your snake-tail hisses at you and you've got to agree. Two heads are better than one, it'd be hard for someone to sneak up on you.

Crouching down low, you hop up into the tree tops, much lower than those of the Wyld back at Castle Golgoth. You're able to see the village. It's a small place... the whole thing looks like it could probably fit within the walls of your castle. Hm, there's a though... your own little humans to keep for yourself.

You can't stop yourself from grinning as you kick off the tree's trunk and behind a row of stone homes, taking stock of tools and items your home is completely lacking in.

>Critical Failure

New Disadvantage!
Rattletail! So much for being a useful second head! Your snaketail enjoys creeping around prey so much that it lets out a hissing little laugh if you aren't careful to keep it quiet! You now suffer a -2 to stealth.

Man, the /qst/ dice at least are as kind to this quest as /tg/ dice...

This is going pretty well. Maybe one day you'll be a master thief on top of true royalty?
"Oh? What's this place?"
You peak through a colorful window of one particular building, larger than the rest. There are a lot of people in here! It looks like they're listening to some old man talk. How dull, and how unfair! This geezer looks like he's ready to keel over, but he's got all of these people hanging on his every word!

You press closer, trying to hear what he's saying, but instead all that you hear is a cracking sound.
"What the-"

There's a shattering sound and suddenly you're inside the building, surrounded by colorful shards of glass and a deafening silence. You slowly get to your hooves and look around.
Oh.
This was not the plan.

>Try to talk?

"Greetings subjects, it it I , your rightful overlord!"

Failure! Total failure!
This was awful!
You couldn't even creep around properly!
As the people around you explode into screams and point, you hop off the floor and bounce over their heads, kicking off the tops of their long wooden seats and crashing through the heavy wooden doors with your horns. Already people are looking towards the building and by extension you!
Agh, this is the worst reveal ever! You didn't even get to make a dramatic speech or anything!
Another kick sends you bounding over rooftops as even more people point and scream. How many peasants were living in this damn village!?
Finally you reach the edge of town and leap over the stone wall that separates it from the forest, panting heavily. What is with this place? You've barely done anything and you're feeling a bit tired... Already you could hear them getting closer to the forest. Agh, you need a plan!

>Stay and try to talk? Maybe they're just curious and scared?
>Use your Vice Gem to pass yourself off as human and try to get back into the village. Surely they wouldn't abandon a helpless maiden to the forest?

Maybe you're going about this the wrong way?

When you think about it a little harder, it makes sense that they'd panic at someone just breaking into their home, smashing windows and running away. If something like that happened back at Castle Golgoth, you'd be pretty unhappy too!

With a sigh, you stand up straight, taking a deep breath. Okay, come on, you're royalty after all! You should act like it!

As you listen carefully, you can hear a small group approaching already! time to make a better impression!

You step out from the trees carefully, getting a better look at them. A group of five men and a woman, with simple farmer's tools and what looks like a staff. They're muttering to themselves. Somethings about "demon" and "Old Kingdom" and definitely "naked".

They seem really hung up on this nudity thing...

"Hello, little peasants. Were you looking for me? I'm sorry that I scared you all so much. I truly didn't mean to..."

Right, that sounds good... now, a smile? Yes, a nice, toothy smile to make them feel at ease.

They look...

Afraid.

These people look afraid, you can see it in their eyes, as clear as a harpy's ti-er, wings. Then men all grip their "weapons" shakily, low to the ground and ready to drop them at a moments notice. They don't know anything about fighting, you think, they just want to keep safe.

The woman is a slightly different story, More stoic, but you can see the shiver through her body when you look her in the eyes.

Fear is better than anger, at least, for now.

You take another step forwards, testing the waters. The men all step back but the woman holds fast, gripping her staff tightly. Now that you look at it, it's pretty ornate. You wonder... does she know anything about magic?

"I'm sorry for appearing so suddenly. I wasn't sure how to approach you all, so I thought taking a peak would help things. My name is Princess Avaritia. Would you be so kind as you tell me where I am?"

She takes a shakey breath as you lean closer, getting a better look at her. Huh, she looks pretty young, but she's in charge of these men... How strange. "Y-You are in the village of Millton, d-demon... Protected by the great Callatine Principality." Huh, that name is familiar... Strix told you about them, you think. He was certain they wouldn't be friendly to you, but maybe these people aren't so close to them?

"Demon... why do you call me that? Not a very nice thing to say to royalty you've just met." With a clawed finger, you point to your rugged silver crown. "See? I own a castle and everything..."

"I-I know about you, demon! The old stories told about an army of monsters who were sealed away by the Gods!"

Well... that's not good.

>Ask her more questions?

Hm, she seems pretty knowledgeable. And you've been out of it, sleeping and growing, while this world went on in your absence.

"So... I'm a demon then? That's fine, that's fine, at least someone knows my history, if that's how they want to see it. But I've never been to this place before. Could you tell me the history of it? Who the leader is, what happens here, that sort of thing?"

You grin and earn another shiver. You're starting to enjoy that fear a little bit.

She stammers out a response. "W-Well, this village used to be much larger, a small time ago. Then we had some problems with the nearby goblin tribe and the mayor discovered a woman had been trading them information to raid for magic books. She was chased out into the forest to live as a witch..." Oh! A witch and a tribe of monsters? Interesting... "The mayor was place in charge by the Order of Eden, to watch the forest and keep monsters from getting closer to the city..." A city too? And this order... hm...

As you stand there thinking, the woman grips her staff tightly. "N-Now, you must leave this place, by the order of the Gods! O-Or I will banish you!"

Well that just seems silly.

This was... interesting. You're half tempted to poke her, just to see what she feels like and how she'd react, but something tells you she'd start trying to fight. That wouldn't really accomplish anything at the moment besides be a total waste of energy.

With a wave, you straighten up and turn your back to her.

"Your Princess thanks you for this news. It looks like I'll have to make my plans elsewhere. But don't worry, I definitely haven't forgotten about you. Maybe we'll meet again?" You flash her another grin and leap away, your snaketail hissing in delight and waving goodbye.

Even as you leave, you feel a twinge in your chest. What is this...?

I already have an idea for how we could use these folk. We play at being the 'cruel but not unreasonable' type- we'll help them out, and help them out truly, but we demand a price for our exemplary assistance. Not monetary, no. Something more...long lasting. Stuff that seems harmless initially, but could come back to bite them eventually. Make it so that they have to keep asking us to deliver them out of the hole they consistently dig themselves deeper into.

And then at the nadir of their despair and fear, we grant the ultimate deal of amnesty...with the price being we annex them properly.

You have a Librarium full of scrolls and books that are too dangerous for anyone untrained in magic to approach. But with a witch's help, you might be able to unlock some of the secrets of your Castle Golgoth.

At least, you hope so...

This forest is large, though, and finding her could be troublesome...

It doesn't take you long before you come across some strange signs.

Small totems, little etching in the tree bark, things that would normally be to small to notice in such a large wooded area.

But not to your sharp eyes.
Instead, you follow the trail, watching for any snares or traps the mysterious witch might have left out for unwanted passerby's. Eventually the trail leads you to a cave, hidden away behind a waterfall. Very clever, and very traditional. Wouldn't any adventurer know that there's treasure behind a waterfall? Still, you approach carefully. From what you know of this witch, she'd sell out her neighbors for more power. You'll have to make a good account if you want her to obey.

An entire library's worth of bargaining power, even.

The cave is bark, but you don't mind. The sunshine was a novelty at first, but now it's just starting to hurt your eyes.

"Well well, what do we have here...?"

I was surprised by the lack of the usual crowd, but people have lives and are allowed to be busy.

Well, to be fair, you are running on a new board that may or may not exist for much longer.

This, pretty much. Mind you, I like this board so far. I'd hope you stick around for a bit longer.
>>
>>15298
also that, yes
>>
>>15311
Yeah, I don't mind the board, it's just it came at a weird as fuck time. Like, why now? After 8 years of quests on /tg/, they decide now to move them here. Why not years earlier, or not at all? But because of the whiners and complainers, they moved them. And because of that, quite of bit of people are either moving to Akun or taking hiatuses Crusty, come back and it makes me sad as fuck.
>>
>>15355
Probably Hiroshimoot's idea.
He seems to be letting a lot of new stuff get tried.
>>
>>15355
Frankly, I think the idea is a bit petty. This move actually brought me back to questing on 4chan, as I wasn't finding anything interesting on /tg/. I was more getting on Akun and tgchan. But since I learned of this board, I decided to take a looksee, and I found like two-three quests I'm at least somewhat interested in and are now following.
