Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkword creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

You... are not one of them. You are a transfer student. There was a bit of a mix-up.

>Previously on Dark Gate Academy...
An encounter with Alice revealed your secret to the rest of the school, and now Class 3 are coming for you.

"I guess that camping trip will have to wait, huh pal?"

Ken stands by your infirmary bedside, his fighting rod in hand, his back turned to you.

"I thought it was cancelled as soon as you walked out on me," you mutter back.

"Sorry, Ryoji. I can't stand being lied to."

"I can't stand being abandoned."

Ken sighs. "Then we're all sorry for something. Let's put it behind us right now, we've got more pressing concerns. Our main focus is keeping you safe."

You grunt and groan as you sit yourself on the edge of your bed. "I don't get what the big deal is about these guys. What's so special about Class 3?”

“They're dangerous,” answers Hiro, sitting in the corner of the room. “All eight of them-”

“Whoah, eight?” you ask. “What happened to the rest of the class?”

It only takes a brief look from the rest of the room for you to remember what school you go to.

“Those eight have survived some of the worst battles the Darkworld has had to offer,” Ken explains. “They're the toughest of the tough. Any one of them could crush even Saki in a fight. The rest of us will get squashed if we try to take them on. Our numbers advantage isn't really as big an advantage as you'd think.”

“I'm not sure we have a numbers advantage,” shrugs Kosuke. “Sure, nobody's really willing to hand Ryoji over to those guys, but how much of Class 2 are actually willing to fight for him? We haven't got a clear answer out of Rei and Akira yet, and Akio and Seishiro are probably a no-go, after what they tried to pull last night.”

“Maybe they've come to their senses?” Hiro asks.

“That'll be the day,” Kosuke fires back.

You shake your head. “Damn, and I guess the staff can't even keep these guys in check? Don't they have a homeroom teacher?”

“No, he's gone,” Tekina answers, frantically shuffling through papers on her desk. “Shortly before you arrived, Gintama-Sama was pulled into a pit by a Darkworlder and... torn apart. Class 3 have been ruling themselves ever since. It's quite the mess, really. The only person who could stop them is Principal Wei, should he choose to interfere.”

Something tells you that isn't going to happen.

You hang your head low and let out a sigh. “So... we're screwed.”

“Don't give up hope!” Nanami exclaims, with a wide smile on her face. “We can still seize this day!”

Ken nods. “Yeah, odds are slim, but that doesn't mean we're just going to up and surrender.”
Saki sits silently on a stool next to you bed. She hasn't left that spot since last night, keeping a watchful eye on you. After a long period without a word, she speaks up. “It's not hopeless... if we can manage to keep Ryoji safe, maybe sneak him out somewhere safe and hide him... just long enough for either Wei to step in or for Class 3 to calm down on their own... if we work together, we can do this.”

The door bursts open, as five more of your classmates enter the nurse's office. Sayeka, Isamu, Akemi, Akio and Seishiro. You recoil back a little, remembering how last night Akio pointed a spear in your face, looking at you like you were some kind of monster. Right now, they don't seem to be hostile.

“Ryoji Shida! Us fine heroes have come to fight on your behalf!” Isamu exclaims before dropping to one knee, bowing his head as if you were a king.

“Really?” you ask, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course!” Isamu replies. “We face an impossible challenge, but that is the fate of all great heroes!”

Akemi smiles and pumps her fist. “Yeah! I might not be very useful, but Isamu told me that people would write books about me if I helped you out, and that sounded really cool! So I'm in!”

“You're our classmate, and our teammate, Ryoji.” Sayeka approaches you and places a hand delicately on your shoulder. “We're here for you.”

“I still don't see why we need to stick our neck out for this guy,” Seishiro mutters. “He lied to us, and he's one of those things! Why should we help?”

“Because,” Akio states begrudgingly, “He might be one of them... but right now, he's still one of us. And we look out for our own... if it's all okay with you, Ryo.”

>I'm not going to turn down any help right now.

>I'm not going to turn down any help right now.
>Honestly the whole reason I didn't tell anyone was because I was afraid everyone would react how class 3 is reacting now. Up until I made contact with Darkworld I was a normal kid, this scares me too.

“I mean, I guess you weren't wrong in thinking that...” Akio mumbles, nervously laughing as he scratches the back of his head. “Sorry about pointing a spear in your face.”

You shrug. “As long as you promise to start pointing it in Class 3's face, we're cool.”

The door bursts open once again, almost coming right off its hinges this time. You raise your head, hopeful to see Rei and Akira coming through, ready to fight on your behalf... but no. Instead, an brown haired, armour-clad boy with a giant smirk on his face saunters through the door. He looks over in your direction and smiles. “You must be the freak. I'm Taka Doi... nice to meet'ya. I'm sure you little kids all know why I'm here.”

There is a tense silence in the air, broken by Ken charging towards Taka with his rod. Taka easily bats the staff from Ken's hand, grabs Ken by the face and slams him into the ground, before keeping Ken downed by pressing his foot atop Ken's skull. The rest of the group ready their weapons, but not before Taka readies his. “I wouldn't try it,” he says, shaking his head.

“Please stop this! This is a room of knowledge, not violence!” Tekina cries in horror.

“Nursey's got a point, you should all listen to her,” Taka states. “Now, I'm not here to risk your little friend away just yet. We're reasonable people, and we don't want a fight on our hands either.”

“I'd be more inclined to believe you if you weren't standing on my friend's head,” you spit at him.

Taka laughs. “Hey, the freak can talk! Still, don't think we haven't noticed your little villager's brigade forming. We're going to give you all twenty minutes to come to us with...”

“Ryoji.”

“No, that's a person's name,” Taka replies, staring at you, “I'm not calling it that. You all have twenty minutes to come to us with the freak, apologise and surrender. We aren't going to kill the freak just yet. No, we're going to take it into our custody, keep it in a cage where we can keep an eye on it, and maybe once a week, nursey here can drop by to take blood samples and run a few experiments. Sound fair?”

Tekina gasps. “I would never allow that! That's just inhumane!” Huh, so even Tekina has a limit as far as her experiments go.

“That's your decision, Nursey, but I can't say it's the right one. Come on, we don't want to beat up a bunch of kids... but if the need arises, I'm going to enjoy it. Choose wisely.”

He takes his foot off of Ken's head and saunters out of the room. Ken picks himself of the ground, his face an expression of anger and shame. “I can't believe this...”

You're not safe here Ryoji, do you want to put all your friends in danger over your problems?

Why not just go to the Dark World, take some time to figure things out, explore your powers for a bit.

I'm sure your friends would understand, and if they didn't? Maybe they never really were your friends to begin with? After all, they were ready to abandon you once already.

>Why not just go to the Dark World
We don't (so far at least) have any way of doing so, we fall through without control the same as everyone else. Worse yet we seem to 'land' harder there than others (probably due to lack of experience), and the most genuinely dangerous thing we've encountered so far (Alice) is also there and appears to have power over the general mobs, which we can't hurt at all.

Saki shakes her head. “Taka isn't head of Class 3. That would be Yamato... he's less stubborn, but much more reclusive. He tends to let Taka do all the talking.”

You shrug. “Whatever. Whoever's leader, we can take them.”

“No, we can't. Not in a straight up fight anyway,” Saki explains. “But Taka has given us a real chance... we now have 20 minutes to get you somewhere safe.”

You nod. “Okay, so we can sneak off-campus, hide out in town until things blow over, right?”

Akemi smiles. “Yeah! Let's do it!”

“Wait...” Sayeka states, “We can't just rush off-campus. We won't get there within twenty minutes, and you better believe that members of Class 3 are stationed up all over school, waiting for us to make a run for it.”

Saki nods. “You're right. The rest of you should survey the school grounds. I'll take Ryoji to a place we can hide.”

“Why you?” you ask.

Saki shrugs. “I'm head of class. It's my duty to keep you safe. And besides, if we get caught, I'm the only one who could hold them off long enough for you to get a second chance at making a break for it. Still... We need to find somewhere to hide in the school first. Heading straight for the entrance isn't a wise option. We have to be more cautious.”

“Okay... how about the library?” Akio suggests. “That place is huge, and it's pretty much always empty, except for Hikaru.”

“Yes... but can we trust Hikaru?” Ken asks.

Akio glares at him. “Hey, what's that supposed to mean?”

“Her brother is in Class 3...” Sayeka explains. “Shinji Shirai.”

“So? You think she would rat us out?” Akio asks. “Besides, what other option do we have?”

“Nariko's got a little cat shrine out back we could hide in,” you say. “It's pretty small, but mostly unassuming.”

“But if they find you in there, you'll be trapped with no way to run,” Sayeka adds. “What else?”

“A pond out behind the dorms,” Ken suggests. “It's hidden by a clearing of trees.”

“The dorms? That's pretty far,” Akio explains. “It'll take you further from the school entrance, and you run the risk of getting caught on your way there.”

Saki raises a hand. “Okay, we've heard our options... Ryoji, the choice is yours. Where can we hide?”

>The Library.

“The library's the closest to us, the closest to the school entrance, and I have no reason not to trust Hikaru,” you state. “It's our best option.”

“Okay, then let's get a move on,” Saki replies. “How are you, Ryoji? Can you walk fine?”

You groan as you rise out of the bed and plant your feet on the ground. “You don't have to hold my hand, if that's what you're asking.”

“We'll scout ahead,” Sayeka answers. “Once you're safely hidden, one of us will come meet you in the library with supplies to bring with you. If all of us go to the library, we'll be spotted.”

And so Operation: Get Ryoji the hell out of here begins. The rest of the group move ahead, only giving you and Saki permission to move forward once they were certain the coast was clear. It took a few twists and turns in the hallway trying to avoid being spotted by anyone, but the two of you eventually make your way inside the library.

To look at Hikaru, you wouldn't believe a huge panic was enveloping the school. She's simply lazing back in her chair, casually flicking through a book. She raises her head as the two of you enter. “Oh, it's you guys again. Here to check out more books?”

Hikaru leans back in her chair, a small smile breaking onto her face. “I am so glad that somebody asked me that.” She stands up a makes her way over to the bookcase behind her desk. “Now, brace yourselves, because this is just so cool it might blow your minds.”

Hikaru pulls on a small latch on the bookcase, and pulls at its sides, revealing that it pulls out. A revolving bookcase, like from some kind of mystery novel. “Amazing, right? I built it shortly after being given librarian duty. It's just didn't feel like an cool old library until it had a secret passage!”

You look at Saki, as the two of you move around Hikaru's desk and examine the space behind the bookcase. “It's a... real tight fit,” Saki mutters.

“Yeah, there's not a lot of space back there. Not like I could knock down a wall or anything. But the two of you could fit in there... probably... if you suck in your gut...”

You shake your head. “Whatever, it'll have to do. Come on.”

You and Saki step in behind the bookcase, and Hikaru smiles as she spins it back around, keeping you hidden in the dark tight space between the bookcase and the wall. “Now, you'll have to stay perfectly quiet. That hiding space isn't exactly sound-proof.”

You wait behind the bookcase, pressed up against the wall, unable to move your arms without hitting Saki who is right next to you. Soon, the twenty minutes you were granted by Class 3 are up, and you take a deep gulp.

It isn't long before the library door creaks open. You can barely see through the bookcase, but you can just about make out a dark-haired boy with a stern look on his face. He looks around the library, before turning his attention to Hikaru.

“Hey, sis.”

Oh... damn. You silently pray that Hikaru doesn't give you up.

“Hey Shinji, what's up?” asks Hikaru, flicking through her novel as casually as she did when you had arrived.

“I'm tracking down that classmate of yours. The Darkworlder.”

Hikaru lets out a small laugh. “I see... so you're playing lapdog to Taka and Yamato again? Never change, bro.”

“You got a problem with them?” Shinji asks. “Taka's a good guy. He gave your classmate twenty minutes to turn himself in.”

“Yeah right,” Hikaru replies, rolling her eyes. “Taka gave him a twenty minute head-start, because Taka wants to have fun hunting. Let's not kid ourselves.”

Shinji stares at Hikaru sternly. “Sis... if you know where this Ryoji is, you'd tell me, right?”

“Of course I would.”

“Good. Because I know when you're trying not to tell me something. You know where he is.”

Crap. Crap crap crap. You try to keep your breaths nice, calm and queit as the conversation between the siblings plays out.

“I have no idea what you're talking about,” Hikaru replies.

“Don't play dumb. It's never been your strong suit,” Shinji replies. “Look... I know I've been pretty distant lately, sis. But if you can tell me where he is, Yamato would give me some time off. Time for me to take you into the town. We could have that picnic we've kept having to put off...”

There's a long pause. “You... you mean it?” Hikaru asks, hopefully.

“Yeah... I do. Just tell me where Ryoji is.”

Hikaru takes a deep breath. “Okay. I know where he's hiding.”

Oh, son of a bitch.

“Where?”

Hikaru sighs. “You see... there's a pond out by the dorms. Hidden by a clearing of trees. He went out in that direction.”

Shinji nods. “Thanks, sis. You're doing the right thing.”

Shinji marches outside of the door, as you breath a sigh of relief.

“Don't come out yet,” you hear Hikaru mutter.

Sure enough, the door swings back open, with Shinji checking inside once again, hoping to catch someone in the act. Finding nothing, he leaves for good as Hikaru waves him off.

“He always checks twice,” Hikaru laughs as the two of you burst from behind the bookcase. “And he's a much worse liar than I am.”

>Sorry about your brother.

Hikaru shrugs. “Screw him. He's more loyal to those jackasses in his class than his own family. If he wants to play lapdog, I'm not going to help him out.”

You feel bad about Hikaru, but at the same time you can't help but be thankful she doesn't have a better relationship with her brother.

The door to the library creaks open as Rini sneaks inside, carrying a backpack, which she then tosses at you. “There you go, some supplies for the road.”

You smirk. “Rini, you're helping us out?”

“Kosuke talked me into it,” she grunts. “I'm still mad at you... but everyone who was in the room with you when you were given those twenty minutes are bound to have eyes on them at all times. Someone else had to bring these to you, and I was up for the challenge. Oh, by the way...”

She hands you a small black baseball cap. “Wear this.”

“Why?” you ask.

“Ken and Hiro are wearing hats exactly like it. Those two are our decoy Ryojis. They'll hopefully keep Class 3 busy chasing them long enough for you to get into town.”

You place the hat firmly atop your head, and toss the backpack over your shoulder. “Thanks, Rini.”

Rini nods. “Don't mention it. I'm just doing what I can to help. And stop smiling Kobashi, or I'll wipe it off your face.”

>As ready as I'll ever be.

Saki nods. “Okay, our two decoy groups will get a head-start, and we can sneak out the back of the school before running for the gate.”

You bid farewell to both Rini and Hikaru as you step outside the library. You then creep around the hallway until you find the door which takes you out the back of the building. As you step outside, the cool wind hits your face. You survey your surroundings. You're out in the open, which means you don't have anywhere you can hide. It'll have to be a clear sprint right towards the exit.

As you and Saki begin to move, you pass by Nariko's shrine. She steps out, with little Daisuke in her hands and catches a glimpse of you. “Hey Ryoji, where are you going?” she asks, as you place a finger to your lips, begging for her to be quiet. Soon, she's running up behind you.

“What are you doing?” you whisper as she jogs by your side.

Nariko reaches into her front pocket and pulls out a pack of cigarettes. “Daisuke found these. I assume they're yours?”

Your eyes widen as you accept the pack of cigarettes. Holy crap, the little cat actually stole these straight from Akihito's private stash. Maybe the beast isn't so bad after-

Before you can finish that thought, you feel a sharp pain in your ankle, seconds before you crumple to the ground. You look down to find an arrow pierced through your foot. You groan in pain as you pull it out, lifting your head to see a white-haired girl in a scarily short-skirt with an even scarier crossbow approaching you. She giggles as she sees the results off her first shot. “Ha, gotcha! Hi, I'm Lilo! I'll be taking you away now!”

Her voice is way too cheerful for your liking. She fires another arrow, this one aimed at your shoulder, but Saki intervenes with her shield. “Just great...” she mutters.

“What do we do?” you ask.

“I'm not staying behind to fight her,” Saki replies. “I need to make sure you make it into town.”

“Then who is going to fight this chick? Nariko?” you ask.

There's a brief silence. She couldn't actually be considering...

“We need to make Nariko mad.”

Nariko turns in confusion. “Make me mad?”

“Yeah Sak, how is that going to-”

“You haven't seen Nariko get angry before, have you?” Saki asks. “Trust me, this'll work.”

“And how am I supposed to get the calmest person on the planet angry?”

“I don't know, make her think her cat's in danger?”

Lilo yawns. “Are you done talking? Because man, are you boring!”

Damn, you have to do something, but what?

>Throw the pack of cigarettes at Lilo.

You scramble to think of something, anything that can get you out of this, and soon you find yourself turning to whatever is in your hand. You look at the pack of cigarettes, sigh, and chuck them towards the crossbow girl. Saki turns her head to you, raising a confused eyebrow. “Why did you-”

“Just watch,” you explain.

Sure enough, little Daisuke wriggles free from Nariko's grip and goes chasing after the pack of cigarettes as it flies through the air. Damn, that cat loves those smokes. As the pack hits Lilo square in the chest, the cat pounces upon her to grab them. The white-haired girl doesn't take to kindly to this, and has a brief struggle with the very aggressive cat. Soon, she grabs little Daisuke and tosses him like a sack of potatoes, having the poor creature land hard on the floor.

“My... cat...” You hear Nariko queitly mutter. She clenches her fist into a tight ball, and as you look up, you see her calm, serene face twist into something much more terrifying. Maybe it's the initial shock, but you can swear her eyes are glowing red with rage. “DON'T TOUCH MY CAT!” she screams, producing a pair of blades and lunging at Lilo like a vicious animal. The class 3 resident is taken off-gaurd and barely manages to parry, but it still having a difficult time defending herself from the aggressive onslaught at the hands of Nariko.

Saki grabs you by the wrist, helping you to your feet as the two of you carry along towards the gate. “What the hell was that?” you ask.

“Nariko's... scary when she's angry. It's a rare sight, but when it happens... she's an even more dangerous fighter than I am. Still...” Saki trails off, “I feel bad for the cat.”

“We'll make it up to the little runt later,” you reply. “That thing just saved my ass. Hell, it can keep my smokes.”

The two of you keep moving as fast as you can. “Ryoji... your ankle isn't healing up...” Saki says in a worried tone.

It's true. You're pretty much hobbling along after taking that arrow through your ankle moments ago. So much for your heightened durability...

“Are you sure? You don't have to act tough...” Saki mutters.

“Yeah, but we do have to keep moving,” you reply. “We don't have time for questions. I'm already moving slow enough as it is.”

You two of you press on, moving as fast as you can. With your messed up ankle, you stumble several time, but Saki is able to help you back to your feet and keep you going. Around the third time you stumble, you hear a voice call out.

“Well now, what do we have here?”

You grit your teeth as you turn your head, and see a pale woman, with a pink streak in her black hair calmly walking over towards you, with a rapier in hand.

“Dammit... do you clowns ever give up?” you ask.

The woman slowly and coldly shakes her head. “I'm afraid not. Time to come with us, monster.”

Saki raises her shield, ready to defend you. “Kamiko's tough, Ryoji. I don't know how long I can hold her back for...”

Kamiko swiftly spins her rapier in hand and strides towards you... before a shell flies in her direction and a puff of smoke bursts from it, clouding her vision. Confused, you look to the source of the shell, and see Akira approaching, bayonet in hand, as Rei charges into the fray, her sword brandished.

“Keep going!” Rei shouts at you. “Akira and I can hold her off for a while, but you have to be quick!”

You scramble to your feet and run on ahead as Rei and Akira duke it out with Kamiko. They'll know how grateful you are for them saving your skin, to waste time talking about it would be an insult to their efforts, especially when you're so close to the school gate you can taste it. As long as your decoys manage to keep the rest of Class 3 busy, you'll be fine.

>Ken's group.

“I'm sorry, but I just don't understand.” Reiji stands watching the group as Akemi appears to be setting up some charges and Nanami's surveys the area with a pocket telescope, from the highest mound of grass in the courtyard. “Why are you going through all this effort, starting a fight with Class 3, all for some delinquent?”

“Because Ryoji is our friend!” Satomi explains with her usual creepy smile, as she helps Akemi set up the trap.

“He's not my friend,” Reiji complains. “In fact, I barely know the man. On all accounts, he comes across as a lazy, rude, good-for-nothing-”

Reiji isn't able to finish the sentence as Chihiro grabs him by the lapel of his shirt. “Listen to me, you little peon! Ryoji Shida is a saint of a man who has brought a tremendous amount of joy into all our lives! We will defend him with our lives!”

“Hark! Here they come!” Nanami exclaims, collapsing her telescope.

“Okay, everyone get ready,” Ken commands, adjusting the baseball cap to hide his brown hair, and keeping his head low to conceal his face.

Two members of Class 3 fast approach the group. Taka and another armour-clad girl, with grey hair, by the name of Nina. Ken steps out into the open, attracting their attention.

“Akemi, honey, are those charges ready?” Chihiro asks.

“Uhh... they will be in a minute...” Akemi gives a nervous laugh and wipes a bead of sweat from her brow.

“B-but we don't have a minute...” Hoshi mutters. “Oh no... we're in trouble...”

Taka marches towards Ken, readying his sword, when Isamu decides to take initiative, likely in the hopes that it would buy the group some time.

“Stand back, foul villains! It is I, Isamu Iori! And I will vanguish the two of you with my spear blessed by the heaven's!” He readies his weapon and charges towards Taka. “LIGHTING DRILL SPEAR ATTACK, GOOOO-”

With a quick swipe, Taka's blade breaks Isamu's spear in half, and a quick backfist is all it takes to knock the young Isamu to the ground, unconscious.

“Damn it...” Ken mutters, as Class 3 get closer.

“Hark, ye Scallywags!” Nanami yells, from her tall mound of grass. “It is I, Captain Nanami Fuji.”

“Is everyone in this class an idiot?” Nina asks, expressionless.

Taka smirks, his urge to bully rising. “I think you mean, is everyone in this class fun. Hey little girl, where'd you get that costume, from the theatre department?”

“As a matter of fact, I did!” Nanami beams proudly. “Why do you ask? Is it yours? Do you want me to return it?”

Taka's eye twitches. “Hey now you listen here, you little runt-”

“I'm just asking because it seems about your size,” Nanami explains.

With the captain having successfully distracted them long enough, Ken turns to Akemi. “Quick, now!”

No reaction. “Akemi? Akemi, now!”

Akemi jumps in place. “What? Oh sorry, I zoned out for a second there...”

Akemi presses a button on a tiny panel in her hands, setting off a small explosion goes off under the feet of Taka and Nina. The two cough as their vision is obstructed by smoke.

“Dammit! Where's the freak?” Taka demands.

“He's right here.” Ken charges forward and drives his rod into the gut of Taka. “That's for standing on my head, you piece of garbage.”

As you climb over the school gate, you feel you ankle give out, and you fall a few feet, landing flat on your back on the hard concrete ground. Saki sighs and picks you up off the ground. “Ryoji... we did it, we're off-campus.”

You nod. “Yeah, but we're not in the clear yet. Eventually they'll come looking for us here too.”

“So, you're just going to sit there, Sora?” Akio asked in an annoyed tone.

“This is not my fight,” Sora explains, his eyes closed in his usual cross-legged position. “I will support you from a distance.”

“Great, we've got two pacifists on board...” Seishiro mumbles. “At least Hiro here is making himself useful as a decoy.”

“And boy, is he... look...” Akio points toward the three members of Class 3 heading in their direction. Shinji, the black-haired, soft-spoken, rifle-wielding Maro and the blonde-haired, brash and cocky Yasutake. A powerful trio, but Akio, Seishiro and Sayeka stand at the ready.

“Give us the kid,” Maro calmly demands, taking charge.

“Well, since you asked nicely... go to hell,” Akio fires back.

“We don't want to fight,” Shinji says, readying his sword.

“Could have fooled us.”

“Yeah, truth is we do want to fight!” Yasutake yells back. “We love fighting!”

“Huh, so we do have some things in common,” Seishiro mutters, drawing his guns. “How we divvying this up?”

Sayeka looks at the three approaching enemies. “I'll take the cowboy. Seishiro, you take the blonde version of you. And Aki, you can take on your girlfriend's brother.”

“Not my girlfriend, but okay.”

The three make the charge, engaging the enemy. Neither of these three are close to Ryoji... hell, Akio and Seishiro aren't fond of Ryoji at all, but this isn't just about keeping Ryoji safe. None of these three can pass up the challenge of taking on the Class above, and they will fight until they can no longer walk.

“As a matter of fact, there's an old woman I need to talk to...” you reply.

Saki pauses for a moment, before it dawns on her. “Chihiro's grandmother?”

“Yeah, and the sister of the little lady who stabbed me. Hopefully, we can get some answers out of her.”

The two of you ask around town hoping to find out where the old lady lives. Most people aren't willing to speak to you, either out of fear and distrust of the students of that creepy school on the hill, or simply because you're a delinquent looking fellow who is now covered in quite a few bandages. Eventually, a man points you in the direction of a small cottage by the river.

You knock on the door and wait for an answer. As you do, you turn towards Saki. “So, how does it feel?”

“What?” she asks, confused.

“You know, hatching all these plans, sneaking around, breaking out of the school? You're a natural delinquent, Saki Kobashi.”

Saki gasps and blushes. “You take that back! I'm doing this out of necessity!”

>That's what they all say, but it's a slippery slope. Next thing you know, you'll be smoking on the school roof!

Saki recoils in horror. “Don't push it, Ryoji. That's never going to happen.”

“How can I believe a reckless, rule-breaking delinquent such as yourself, Miss Kobashi?” you joke. “I don't think there's any length you won't stoop to!”

You call attention to the green jacket Saki put on as you were preparing for your little jailbreak. It's kind of an odd sight that you never got the chance to take it... Saki outside of her school uniform, dressed like a normal human. "I mean look at you, you're even dressing like a delinquent!"

Saki gives you a light punch on the arm, trying hard to conceal a smile. “Shut up, Ryoji. We're not out of the woods yet. Don't you have more pressing concerns than teasing me?”

“Nothing's more important than teasing you Sak,” you laugh.

“Well, now that we have the time...” Saki mumbles. “I want to apologise for yesterday. For how I acted with you and Rei.”

Oh boy, here it comes. The ol' 'I've secretly had a crush on you this entire time, Ryoji. You're so tall, amazing and handsome' routine. “Saki, you really don't have to-”

Saki sighs. “Ryoji... you already know Rei's ill. But... I don't think you realise how ill. Akira was vague on the details herself, but... Rei won't be celebrating graduation with the rest of us.”

A long silence is shared between the two of you. You don't believe it, Rei's the most athletic and active person you know, her illness can't be that bad, can it?

“She's been trying hard to hide it, and her abilities have kept her going much longer than she would have if she was a normal human, but eventually... the point is, Rei is just looking for someone to have some casual fun with before... you know... and I was worried that you might have wanted more, and then you would have gotten your feelings hurt, and... we were just looking out for you, Ryoji.”

"Did I enjoy the... what?" Saki asks with a smirk.

"Uhh... ueah, she loved it. She keeps that brooch in a dresser above her bed. Means the world to her," you reply, lying through your teeth.

The old woman smiles. "How lovely! Would you like to come inside for some tea?"

You shrug as you and Saki enter the small cottage. It's very quaint, clean little home, with tons of pictures hanging on the walls and on shelves. Some you recognise as Chihiro's cousin Sho, from the pictures you saw in his locker on your first day. The others, however... the other pictures are much more interesting. You pick up one framed photo and stare at it, gazing at the young light-blond haired girl contained within. No doubt about it... this is her. Sure, she looks a lot less evil and crazy in the photo, but that's Alice all right.

Charlotte catches you staring at the photo and smiles. "Beautiful, isn't she? My poor little sister, passed away too young... She was so care-free, so fun-loving, a regular little troublemaker. She never did much care for being told what to do."

"Remind you of anyone?" Saki laughs.

"I'd prefer we didn't invite any-more comparisons," you whisper back, "this is already too freaky for me."

"It's a shame..." Charlotte mutters. "It was her own reckless nature that lead to her accident. Fell into a river and drowned during school hours. They never did uncover the body, but there's a memorial set up for her out back."

>You mind telling us a little more about Alice? She sounds very interesting.

Charlotte smiles as she hands you a small cup of tea. "Of course! What would you like to know?"

Your minds runs through a list of possible options. Her likes, dislikes, if she just so happens to be an evil creature from another world and if so, how to defeat her. The usual stuff.

"Anything," you reply. "What was her school life like?"

Charlotte sits down and takes a sip of tea. "She wasn't in the school very long, but she loved it. Of course, she rarely attended classes, instead she wanted to laze about reading books and pulling tricks on the teachers, but she loved her time there. She would always send me letters every day about what she got up to. She never left the school grounds much, but she would hand these letters to a boy at the school gate every morning, who would then bring them here."

"Do you have any of those letters?" you ask.

"Of course! I keep them all in a box by the refrigerator!" she stands from her chair and walks over to a small cardboard box, which she plants on the table. You flick through the letters contained within. It's been weird coming to grips with the idea that Alice was once a regular kid like you, but nothing compares to reading her own handwriting in a series of loving notes meant for her sister. She just feels so... human. If this young girl can become... that, who says you can't?

You finish your tea and bid farewell to Charlotte, leaving through the door of her cottage. "She seems like a nice old lady," Saki says.

"Yeah..." you reply, "Makes me feel kinda guilty for swiping this." You hold up one of the old letters.

"What the? Ryoji, how could you?" Saki asks, shocked.

"Look, telling Alice her full name got her to listen to me... for a second, then she kinda stabbed me half to death, but I think if she see's one of these, we might be able to get her to remember her time as a human."

Saki pauses. "You... really think so?"

You shrug. "Worth a shot, isn't it?"

"Not a bad idea at all," a voice comes from behind. You spin around to see a white-haired, solemn looking boy staring at you. "Hello, Ryoji."

"And who is this clown?" you ask.

Saki sighs. "This would be-"

"Kobashi, allow me to make my own introductions. My name is Yamato, and I'm the head of Class 3."

"Like I give a crap," you reply. "I've already escaped your other goons. You think you can take me down?"

Yamato shakes his head. "Ryoji, the rest of my class were fearful and hasty. They were ready to treat you like some kind of monster. I don't agree. I understand if you don't trust me, but I swear to you... if you come with me, you will be in my own personal custody. For the safety of others, and the safety of yourself. I will not harm you, Ryoji."

"And can you promise the same of Taka? Or Maro, or Kamiko, or any of your bloodthirsty class?" Saki fires back.

"I... I will try," Yamato answers.

"You'll try?" Saki spits, "That's not good enough!"

Saki turns her head to you. "Ryoji, do you trust me."

"Eh, Kinda."

"Good," She replies, readying her shield and lance. "Then I'm going to fight him off. For as long as I can. And you... you're going to run, okay?"

"Saki..." you mutter.

"What?"

>I'm not leaving you behind.

"Don't be difficult, Ryoji," Saki replies, standing with her back to you, refusing to let down her guard. "Everyone has worked so hard to keep you safe, don't throw it all away because you feel bad about me. I told you before, it's my duty to keep my classmates safe. Please, run."

"Come on, Sak. Don't be stupid-"

"Ryoji, if you don't use the time I buy you to run right now, I will never forgive you."

Saki charges forwards, engaging with Yamato. He swings his sword, parrying her, and the two go back and forth. Saki fighting with all her might, Yamato seeming reluctant to give his full strength.

You shake your head and start to run. You should have figured she would be stubborn, she always is. Your ankle is killing you, but you keep pressing on, running into town, pushing past villagers as you eventually keel over in an open field on the outskirts of the town. Looking up, you see the Academy atop the hill, looking over all below it. You begin to wonder is this is it, if this is the end, if all of the running and the diversions and the teamwork was for nothing. Class 3 are still prepared to hunt you down no matter how far you run. Maybe there is no escape...

"Ryoji?" you hear a voice call out.

You turn your head to see a pale black haired boy standing above you. For some reason, he looks very familiar. "Yeah? And who the hell are you?"

Before you get an answer, the boy's fist flies into your face, knocking you out cold.

You wake up, tied to a wooden chair, in what appears to be some kind of shed. You blink, readjusting your eyes to the surroundings, as you see the boy standing in the corner.

"Shit... I guess you Class 3 clowns finally got me," you sigh.

"I'm not in class 3, Ryoji."

The boy approaches you with a cold look on his face. "Do you not recognise me? Are you really so self-involved?"

You squint your eyes, examining his face, before you realise. This man is a member of your class. "Wait a minute.. you're Raiden, right? You sit next to Ken!"

Raiden slowly nods.

You take a deep breath. "Okay... so if you're not Class 3, then why am I tied up like this? Where even am I?"

"You're back on school grounds," he explains. "I dragged you back here. I wanted to wait for you to wake up, to talk to you face to face, before I kill you."

"Kill me?" Your eyes widen. "Why? I mean, I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to talking to you yet, but-"

Raiden pulls out a gun, and whacks you in the jaw with the hilt of it. You spit out a glob of blood, as he grabs your hair, directing your gaze to meet his eyes.

"You're a monster. You come to this place, from seemingly nowhere, and you dare to sit where she once sat..."

"Who the hell are you talking about?"

"Maya! She was kind, and smart and funny! She was my friend... and the Darkworld killed her. YOU killed her, didn't you? DIDN'T YOU?!" He screams in your face, grasping the top of your head roughly. "You killed her and then you thought you could take her place, take her seat... and everyone bought it, didn't they? But not me. I know what you are, Ryoji... you're a monster. You're the reason the Darkworld is acting strange. You're here to infiltrate us, destroy us, take us over. And you started by murdering my best friend you filthy Darkworld scum."

"What do you want?" you ask, shaking her head frantically.

Raiden points the gun in your face. "I want to see you repent. I want to see you admit to your sins, and apologise before I kill you. I want to know that even a monster like you is capable of feeling guilt."

>I've never been sorry for a damn thing in my life.

Raiden glares at you. "Would you care to rephrase that, Ryoji? I'm giving you one last chance."

You pause for moment. "Eh... nah, I'm good. Though I would like to add something to that."

You spit in his face.

Raiden wipes the glob of black-stained spit, before raising his gun to your head. "I gave you a chance. It just goes to show that a monster can never change."

You close your eyes and take a deep breath. Staring death in the face, you're glad you were able to flip it the bird like a true master delinquent. You're not going to apologise for anything. Still... it looks like this is the end. You think back to all your friends from class, and all they've done for you. All of them fought for you, gave it their all to protect you. At a time like this, there's no point keeping your pride... you're going to miss them. It's a shame that all their efforts were in vain.

You try to find a good last thought. You prune your mind, visualising a certain smile, a happy thought to go out on... then the door to the shed bursts off it's hinges. You slowly open your eyes to see Raiden being tackled to the ground by Yamato, who knocks the black haired boy out with a strong punch while he's downed.

Yamato looks at you and shakes his head. "That was far too close. Lucky for me, he was sloppy... forgot to account for the trail of black blood you left behind. Just had to follow that to get here."

Yamato loosens the ropes holding you to the chair. As he frees you, you fall weakly to the ground. He offers you a hand, which you don't accept, but he helps you to your feet anyway. "We'll take Raiden here into custody, keep him far away from any of the other students," Yamato explains. "He's clearly unstable."

"And what about me?" you ask, struggling to stand on your own strength. Damn, you've lost a lot of blood today. "After all this, am I going into your damn custody now?"

Yamato shakes his head as he leads you outside. "No, Ryoji. In fact, you may be the luckiest man alive."

You raise an eyebrow. "After today, I doubt that."

"Principal Wei decided to put a stop to all this. You're under his care, Ryoji, and we aren't to touch you."

What do you know? The old man finally decided to leave his ivory tower and intervene with this mess. And all it took was half the students, including his own granddaughter risking their lives.

"So... that's it? You're just going to leave me alone from now on?"

Slowly, Yamato shakes his head. Boy, does he love doing that. "It would... but we've also received another order direct from Wei himself. Class 3 are to focus on co-operating in the capture of the female Darkworlder Alice."

Your eyes widen. "So wait... after our two classes damn near killed each-other... now we...?"

"Yes... we're going to have to work together."

There's a long silence between the two of you.

"I know, Ryoji. I don't like it either."

>Player Question
This marks the first episode where every member of Class 2 made an appearance. Who's your faves, and why? Who had the finest moment this episode?
>>
Goddamn fuck everyone who isn't in class two, fuck them all.
>>146425
Nanami's master troll abilities will never be forgotten.
>>
>>146409
Booker you sly fucking dog
Since plot is escalating as quickly as the waifu wars can I ask that since Rei is probably going to lose and sacrifice herself, she should at least get one kiss before she goes. She's earned that much
>>
>>146425
>Raiden did try to kill us in the end.

Ah, I called it so hard. This episode has only further strengthened my belief that Saki is in fact best girl.
>>
>>146425
Saki, Nanami, and Hiro a best. Everyone else a shit. A SHIT.
>>
>>146425
Ryoji had the finest moment, nothing gets me better than someone realising they've lost it all and flipping death off right in the face, and I mean RIGHT in the face, literally shoving your fist and finger against death's bony skull-face and rubbing it in there like you fucking mean it.

Fuck yeah, Ryoji.

Also, why no Satomi, man? I want my cute crazy science wife, dangit

>>
>>146425
Saki, Chihiro, and Ken all stand out as being pretty awesome, but I think we can all agree who the real hero was today: Cat Daisuke
>>
>>146451
>>146438
Can we all agree Ken probably saw and thought something along the lines of "Now THAT is a woman this justice-server can get in- I, I mean behind!" mentally?

Well, I mean, that's what I'm gonna go with at least, PirateRider a best
>>
>>146445
Oh wait, I forgot about Nariko and Hikaru. Everyone else though are shit tier.

>>146454
>wanting to piss off them off even more
I have no doubt that if the moment comes up where they can get scott free, they will attempt to kill us. Pissing them off more will just make them want to get this moment even more.
>>
>>146448
>Also, why no Satomi, man? I want my cute crazy science wife, dangit

She made a brief appearance, anon. >>145703
She called Ryoji her friend and helped Akemi set the trap. It's not much, but she was there. She helped.

Also, HUGE fuckin' apology about the lack of that PirateRider story, I've been so busy procrastinating the revision for my exam tomorrow [or today, since its like 2am] lately I accidentally kinda procrastinated that as well. >>146425
Man, that was a great adreniline rush. Though somehow I expect the infirmary to be Class 2, at least for a while. Shiners, cuts and fat lips for everyone! This will be great.

Class 3 will be interesting. I eagerly await seeing us interact and get to know them better. There are probably some solid gems in there and we just don't know it.

Player Question.
Saki for her sheer heart. Nanami for her attitude. Rei for her spunk. Akira because she does actually care. Brosuke because he is a bro. Akemi because she is always good for a laugh and can't wait to see her play the fool again.

Finest moment, Daisuke obviously. But I also think Nariko, Nanami, Rei, Akira and Saki deserve some praise as well.

We're nearing episode 13, which means theme song changes right?
>>
>>146512
I am pro Saki. But I don't want Rei to suffer from a case of the Keys
>>
>>146526
I like how they've never explained how everyone survived that, and they never will.

You're the first person to predict this and you're completely right.

Still haven't decided on what I'm gonna use it. I'm torn between a couple other Jam Project songs, and the possibility of using something more upbeat.

Hope is bountiful, like glorreitushy tushy

>>146570
Always on the side of pro-development. Its why class 3 will be a real treat!
>>
>>146425
Class 2 was great and all but the one that caught my attention the most was Lilo. My fetish for plaid skirts just makes her impossible to ignore, I hope she sticks around. Hell, a lot of Class 3 was pretty damn cool I'm excited to see more of them.
