This is a quest set in the world of Wildblow's "Worm" web serial, in which heroes and villains battle for the fate of the city, and for street-level drug feuds.
We follow James Case, a young man with newly discovered powers…
~
TWITTER: @QmJim, make sure to subscribe for updates on cancellations, excuses, and general whining.
LAST THREAD: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/33827/
ORIGINAL INSPIRATION: https://parahumans.wordpress.com/
KNOWN VILLAINS: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OTTEbkGCwypV1CgVF87AYvdctzmVjTM4ZzDlFrXdXWY
KNOWN HEROES: Still working on it lol
~
CURRENT MONEY: 1145.32$ (-100$ for the motel)
CURRENT FRUSTRATION: 2 (+2 from Eight Ball and Meatgrinder shitting on your day.)
~
“Bloody fucking piss.”

You whip your phone at the bed, clipping Blowout’s flank. He doesn’t appear to notice.

“Shitting fuck!”

You retrieve your phone and slump down next to the bed, beginning once more to scroll through the news. New posts pile up rapidly, with links to local news channels re-broadcasting the video message. Speculation abounds; it seems that much of the mainstream media hasn’t yet heard of you at all. It makes sense. The average non cape-fanatic barely gives an arse about anything but big name Protectorate members, nevermind some local, nominally unaligned street cape.

You haul yourself to your feet with an ill-tempered sigh and stomp over to where you left your helmet. You sit down in the flea-ridden motel chair and cradle it in your hands. The faintest brown smear is still visible where Belts painted a heart in her own blood last night. Your thoughts turn quickly to the Red Boys and you toss the helmet away angrily.

some heads up hockey for y'all: today is National Caesar Day here in Canada, so I'm going to be absolutely bonkers drunk before the end of the night.

>>Go find a drink to reduce frustration.
Yeah damn we need a drink after that news
Take a breath try and plan while looking for a drink
>>

Hey OP, was wondering 2 things:
1.) is Rain City not!Vancouver, and therefore in Canada?
2.)planning on doing APOV interludes at any point?

>>156534
1.) It is in Canada (I'm sorry for having Protectorate instead of a Guild, I'm retarded), and is loosely based off of Vancouver and Seattle.
2.) At the end of this little arc here yes, it's pretty likely! Depending on my mood over the next few weeks, I might run a short, unrelated quest to recharge my Worm batteries entirely.

>>156546
Caesars are a Canadian cocktail comprised of vodka, clam and tomato cocktail, Worchestershire sauce, and hot sauce. They are my favourite drink of all time, and they apparently merit a dedicated day!
>>
GUYS WHAT SHIT CAN WE GET A HOLD OF BETWEEN NOW AND THE FIGHT?

>>156550
1.) keep the protectorate, we know more about it and retcons are awful...

2.)that drink sounds awful...but then I like to drink strait whiskey or peppermint schnapps so thats my version of good taste.

AND BY SHIT I MEAN WEAPONS AND GEAR.

HOW DIRTY CAN WE FIGHT AGAINST THE GRINDER?

>>
>>156550
I dug up the WoGs on the subject. Protectorate is also active in Canada, and the guild is a small, by powerful and influential group.
>>
>>156550
While we're on the subject, Blowout is the name of a member of the Vegas Protectorate. He showed up for one chapter, but it's still in there. No need to change it, as a matter of fact it's a funny coincidence that must happen a lot in Worm.
>>

You start out of your chair and swiftly stalk over to the bed. You grip the unconscious villain’s vest and shake him aggressively.

“Oi! Wake up man, time to get moving.”

The eye-watering and bedraggled figure remains prone.

“Fuck sake Blowout, wake the fuck up,” you growl as you jostle him even more vigorously. This time, your efforts are met with a pained groan. Your comrade in arms stirs, rolling over onto his back.

“Ugh,” he grumbles, “what the fuck man.”

He massages his neck, grimace flashing across his exposed mouth. With a low grunt, he pulls himself into a sitting position propped against the dirty motel room wall.

“This is what the fuck,” you say, thrusting your phone into his hands. He taps the screen, and Meatgrinder’s video starts playing. Blowout’s expression turns from pained to one of outright despair.

“That’s fucking bullshit,” he groans, handing the phone back to you. “Eight Ball, now this? Fuck me running.”

“You’re welcome for the rescue,” you respond.

Blowout looks at you strangely.

“You… beat him?”

“Is that so hard to believe?”

“Yeah,” he pulls his helmet off to dig the heels of his hands into his eye, rubbing the sleep from them, ”a little bit.”

His face is a lean and Asian one, a slightly tacky sound wave tattoo underlining the left of his brown, almond eyes. His hair is short on the top, an elaborate pattern etched into his fade.

“I don’t get the fuss,” you grunt without missing a beat, “he went down easier than Belts.”

He shakes his head.

“That doesn’t sound right. But hey, I’m not about to grill the guy who’s saved my ass twice now.”

You simply nod.

“So,” he continues,” what’s the play boss?”

>We need to strap the fuck up, call your contact.
>We need to get the PRT involved, this is getting out of hand.
>We need to go underground, avoid the fight entirely.
>We need to wrangle some more non-Protectorate capes to help us out.
>We need to try something unexpected: I’m going to make a phone call. (Call Mysterious Number)
>>
>>156715
>>We need to go underground, avoid the fight entirely.

He has nothing on us currently and probably doesn't know your contacts. We're new and have no vested interest. If we both go under we SHOULD avoid horrible death.
>>
>>156715
>We need to go underground, avoid the fight entirely.
Fighting him at all is dumb. Fighting him in his own arena, among all his subordinates, is retarded.
>>

>We need to go underground, avoid the fight entirely.

>We need to strap the fuck up, call your contact.
Are good plays. Seriously stupid to go in to the trap without the best plan and a better backup plan. Best backup in any event is gearing out.

>>
>>156855
That got me.
>>
>>156840
I think the consensus is simply "you will die" in the Wormverse.
>>
>>156934
That's the consensus in our universe
>>
Is there a trick to Meatgrinder's durability and strength? Capes in the wormverse don't usually have "played straight" powers.

If we can find out exactly how he works, we might have an edge.
>>
“Get a hold of your guy,” you reply, “we’re gonna need to up our hitting power. Fists can only do so much.”

He nods, and withdraws a cell phone from his vest. You turn away and leave him to his call. You toy idly with your phone, mulling over the very few options available to you: flee and risk Meatgrinder taking out his ire on civilians, call in the Protectorate and risk the same, or put your life on the line and accept his challenge. None of them particularly appealing.

“Fuck,” you growl under your breath. Shit just doesn’t seem to want to go your way.

Your thoughts roll back through your experiences since you developed your powers such a short time ago. One common thread seems to connect everything: the mysterious texts from the unknown number.

You open the rather one sided text message chain, and hesitate with your finger over the “call” button. You press it.

It rings once. Twice. Three times. Four times. You start to pull it away from your ear to hang up, when a voice halts you in your tracks.

“Hello, Blindside.”

You start, nearly dropping your phone. The fluidity of the speaker’s words is almost striking.

“Who are you? How did you find my number?”

Your subconscious almost paints a smug chuckle into the silence; you’re sure the mystery correspondent had to hold one in.

“You’ve got yourself into some trouble today,” the voice continues in a tone that nearly seems dispassionate.

“No fuck,” you reply angrily, “Meatgrinder’s wants to push my shit in.”

“That, and your little bout with Eight Ball earlier. Didn’t dodge that concussion grenade as neatly as you’d wanted, did you?”

You shake your head in frustration, “how do you know about that already? What the fuck?”

“I know a lot of things.”
>>
>>156960
I guess we should look up any videos and documents online about Meatgrinder's fights.

Also, is Blowout's contact the same guy that made our armor? I'm not sure he'll outfit with weapons.
>>
There’s a brief pause, and you start forming a particularly barbed curse in the back of your mouth.

“You’re calling to ask for my help,” the voice continues after the long beat, “yes?”

“Yeah,” you admit begrudgingly.

“Obvious, really. I’ll be glad to assist.”

You breathe a sigh of relief, with a nip of apprehension.

“But, I don’t work for free. Not even for assets I’m so… invested in.”

Of course it wouldn’t be that easy.

“What do you want?”

“Your loyalty. I help you, you owe me one favour, whenever, whatever I need you to do. No negotiation, no terms.”

>Fuck off.
>Begrudgingly accept.

if a sword cannot be gotten then a baseball or cricket bat.

You sigh. It’s like you can feel the vestiges of control slipping from your fingers, as if your future is being fixed on a track of someone else’s design.

“Alright,” you begrudgingly sigh. You glance over your shoulder to Blowout, who is engaged in an animated but far from amicable exchange on his phone.

“How exactly are you going to help me? You got some sort of crazy power?”

The voice at the other end of the line actually does chuckle this time, a markedly annoying sound.

“No. If I did, I wouldn’t be bothering with the cloak and dagger at all. As it stands, I need to solve problems with a bit more finesse than my own bare fists can provide. Your fists however, seem to have finesse in droves.”

Grandstanding asshole, you grumble internally.

“Cut to the chase.”

“Fair enough. I’m going to help you by telling you three things.”
>>
“Jesus fucking christ man,” you groan, any effort to play nice out the window, “that’s bullshit.”

The voice ignores you and continues.

“One. You’re tempted to go into hiding, to ride things out until everything’s blown over. You think the whole thing is a trap, and you’re probably right. But you have to accept his challenge. Trust me on this.”

“Fuck that.”

“Two. Take your time fighting him. Don’t try to finish it quick.”

He pauses, seeming to wait for you to interrupt him this time. You hold your tongue.

“Three. If the PRT, or worse, the Protectorate show up, don’t talk to them. Get out of there.”

“That’s it?” you question, more than a sliver of anger in your tone, “that’s the big help?”

“Good luck.”

The “call ended” tone plays in your ear.

“Fuck,” the familiar word comes naturally. “Fuck!

You slam your phone back into your pocket and stalk over to Blowout, who seems to have calmed down some and now speaks in more serious, even tones to his phone in what you think is Korean. You scoop up your helmet, using it to lean against the rickety TV stand. Another minute passes, and he pulls the microphone away from his mouth, covering it with a gloved hand.

“What’s the next step? Our ride needs to know the plan.”

Reposting shopping list.

Canadian Tire allows purchase of bear spray by anyone over the age of 18, no papers needed like Coop, so it checks out. About $45.

Mountain Co-op has some pretty slick gear for climbing such as screws to put loops in rocks (I do not climb, so forgive my lack of terminology). This led me to look up chain also. Using the two of these in tandem with some stones would provide working bolas. $50 to make five of them.

All the chain necessary to loop up Meaty real good (20') along with shitty carabiners. The shitty carabiners won't support our weight, so no risk of tossing about. $25

Glass is free, a bottle to hold it in will be no problem considering our hobbies.

Found a good baseball bat for $50 at Canadian Tire.

$170 for a bat, 5 bolas, some bear spray, and chain.

Rapes of Cain City Quest based off Wildblow's Worm?
>>
“We need to gear up,” you reply. “Think trying to punch Meatgrinder down’ll just make him mad.”

Blowout nods and mutters something into his phone, again in the language you don’t understand. He hangs up a moment after.

“She’ll be here in four minutes,” he tells you, already pulling his helmet back on.

“Shit, that’s fast,” you reply, following suit.

Your helmet is slightly uncomfortable, pressed against your hair now cold and damp with hours old sweat.

“She’s the best. A pain in the ass,” he adds, “but the best.”

The two of you exit the room and make your way down the dirty motel staircase; you take the time to fill him in one what happened between the start of the fight with Eight Ball and when he woke up.

“I still don’t buy that you beat him alone,” he remarks as you enter the gloomy lobby.

“He wasn’t that tough, really,” a little bit of pride threatening to stamp out the frustration that had built up around the edges of your psyche.

He sighs, a markedly uncharacteristic expression. Perhaps his injuries had taken it out of him?

“That’s not what I mean. Eight Ball doesn’t go for the attack unless he knows he can win. I mean, absolutely nothing left to chance, not even a stray blade of grass.”

Your pride vanishes again, an annoyed sneer curling your lip.

“It definitely didn’t feel like a setup,” your thoughts flashing to the new bruises that pepper your legs.
>>
Dammit Jim.
>>
He shrugs. You push through the dirty glass door and into the street. The sky is dark, only the brightest stars twinkling through the haze of the city lights. A few dilapidated cars and trucks are scattered along either side of the street, illuminated by the dim glare of the streetlamps. As if on cue, a mechanical growl echoes from somewhere nearby. A moment later, the sound is given physical form; a bulky yet somehow sleek muscle car tears around the corner, black windows and candy apple red paint glinting in the twilight. It lurches to a sudden, noiseless halt at the curb in front of you.

“You thought my bike was sweet, shit was a half assed commission job,” he walks up towards the rumbling vehicle; you tentatively follow suit.

The mirrorlike window rolls down fluidly, and you can instantly recognize the driver.

“Get in, dickheads,” says Redline.

weapons?
Surveillance/Tracking/coms?
Utility options? eg weapon case that ejects what we need, smoke screen
>>
>>157521
I made a list on the assumption we were gonna be ghetto guerrilla, but here
>>157360

I think Redline does vehicles, but anything she can make to fuck with Grinder is good.
>>
>>157592
we need weapons more than transport. we can ride bitch with blowout for the time being.

we need delaying tactic weapons.
Bolas
Caltrops/marbles/floor-grease
Obscurants like smoke or fog or flashbang/flashpack

again I say for Irony value we should use great big hooks in this fight because meathooks and the shit-posting nature of our character.

for now a sword made out of a crudely sharpened slab of spare armor plating will do for now till we can get a better one.

dude's a brute so hamstringing him may not work.
>>
>>157647
Have bolas and bear spray, obscurants would impede our weakness sense, marbles are a good idea. The only thing the hooks would be good for is to rip clothes and be annoying, so only a few of those. A long sharpened pole might be able to prod out weak spots such as eyes or joints. A sword would not help.
>>
>>157647
we might need some sort glove to stick to the walls if we are going to use floor grease or marbles just so we can make sure it doesn't affect us as much
>>
>>157647
>>157658
The Hooks can be useful if we manage to get one to pierce even if it does no damage it could be a good hand rung if big enough. I imagine having a few stuck in Meat Grinders Back maybe the walls just gives us more flexibility and would look awesome
>>
>>157729
>manage to get one to pierce
That's the hard part, for all intents and purposes a harpoon would be better suited to that. The hooks would be annoying in that it would snag clothes and force him to rip them in order to get them off. I fully expect only chemicals and electricity to work on...

Who's opposed to a molotov cocktail?
>>
>>157780
A molotov might be a bit damaging, not just for Meatgrinder but for wherever we're fighting, much higher chance for it to do something we weren't expecting than chemical or a taser.
>>
>>157785
True, but the alternative is a bottle of acid that I'm not sure we could obtain. Stun guns are illegal in Canada. Maybe bleach? If I wasn't worried about it I would suggest mustard gas.
>>
>>157790
>Stun guns are illegal in Canada.
You realise this is an illegal cape fight right? I think obtaining a taser is the least of our problems. And basic old tear gas might work, we have our helmet and I doubt Meatgrinder's is anywhere near airtight.
>>

all of the above at some random intervals in game.

more rapidly I would like to put meathooks in someone and ride them around a ring like Kratos rode the cyclops.

Endbringers at the worst moment possible. The exact worse. Like, stuff couldn't get possibly more fucked, and then you drop an Endbringer on top of it.
>>
>>159174
>"Blindside! Find a weakness!"
>"I can't!"
>"Why?"
>"There aren't any!"
Everyone promise that in this scenario we run to the shelter.
>>
>>157793
The problem is obtaining one, they don't sell them in Canada. I have no clue where we would get tear gas, and I'm fairly sure our helmet is not airtight since we don't require a breathing apparatus.
>>
>>159325
Best way to get a kill order on your head. If there is an Endbringer and you're a cape, you die now... Or you die later.
>>
>>159345
People were allowed to leave in the serial you know. So long as we are not benefitting from it we aren't going to get a kill order.
>>
>>159354
Oh, might misremember that from Memorials, then.
>>
>>159345
Many capes don't participate in endbringer shit. Hell, tons of protectorate capes don't (Aren't allowed to) participate, it goes right next to their classification in the official file.
>>
>>159529
I feel like when Chevalier gives his speech, that's the whole opportunity to say "Nah, fuck that." and leave. The alternative is doing as Coil and not showing up at all.
>>
>>159339
we COULD steal them from the PRT, or we could get them made by a chemist or a tinker.
>>
>>160883
Heaven forbid, but we COULD ask for help from another gang. I'm sure they have an interest in Meaty getting ousted.
>>
>>160883
Tear gas isn't nearly as effective as you guys think.

The good shit to use is pepperspray, which you can make several ersatz versions of with capcaisin concentrate home made.
>>
>>162724
It's quite effective.
At what its intended for.
Dispersing crowds.
Which might be a good idea if we're going into a building full of crazies.
>>
>>163145

Its designed to scare away or discomfort anyone not dedicated to a cause enough to ignore it or clever enough to easily circumvent it. It does nothing for an organized gang who doesn't care. Also our power is sight based and vision obscurers are probably a counter to us, and thus more dangerous for us than them.
>>
>>163170
I was thinking of it as a means to get the rubber neckers and drunken spectators/gamblers out of there to help minimize civilian casualties
>>
>>163217
which we probably would want to have dispersed...
>>
a thought strikes me.

sometime between now and the fight, IF THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES and we see a cape that isn't affiliated with meatgrinder(even someone like Snakehead) we ask them if they've fought him before and if he's capable of sneaky tricks.

if we see a protectorate cape we inform them that that we suspect(even if we have no evidence) that meatgrinder has remote groups that will kill civilians if they get involved in the fight in any way at some point during that conversation. but if we see them we still ask them about tactics MG uses. (DATA IS IMPORTANT)

this is all assuming they aren't too busy to converse, if they ARE busy we watch them and maybe intervene for a clear winner or sudden upset. this will incline one or the other to lend us some aid(and maybe some cool shit like PRT foam dispensers or disorientation grenades) AND it will give us observation time to see the weaknesses and tactics of capes in action.
>>
>>159339
>The problem is obtaining one
we just got picked up by a tinker...

if we ask really REALLY nicely we might acquire some Tinker-toys

>>161293
fair point

>>157780
>molotov cocktail
fire is a fickle friend.
we'd have to weakness-check the entire building and/or have blowout start fires in strategic places

>>157722
we have "soft boots" IIRC this means that marbles might be painful, but won't cause much in loss of traction

>>157658
>A sword would not help.
how about a long cruciform hand-spike?
minimum resistance to punch it through meaty flesh and into weakness locations like kidneys, liver, spleen, etc.
>>
>>169443
>weapon ideas
Keep in mind, MG has a Brute 6 rating, aka "our weapons are useless". SOP for brute>5 includes RPGs and guns large enough to require being mounted to a vehicle, I don't think a punchyspike is going to do much powered by human muscles.
>>
>>169793
it may if driven firmly into a weak-point. a thing we're likely to see...
>>
>>169823
Maybe.
If they exist.
I'm more in the avoid melee camp personally
>>
>>170216
certainly, but we will need to get in close eventially and we need something to hit him with once we do.

hopefully,(as has been implied) he looses power in long confrontations and we can stomp him then(I'm all for cutting off a leg or foot myself) we WILL need melee eventually, but in this fight we need it for the end, not for the beginning and middle.
>>
>>170229
I'm not sure if its a "loses power overtime" thing, or a chessmaster needs us to keep him there+distracted as long as possible because of PLAN thing.
The name "meatgrinder" has implications, and a lack of stamina is not among them. Quite the opposite.
>>
>>172516
could be he just picked a badass sounding noun for his name.

or picked something to imply no stamina problems.

anyway, this gets us no closer to determining how to beat him. cause we have yet to discuss how and where to attack nor what weapon would work...

anyone think a big fuck-off AXE would do the trick?
>>
>>172531
Tbph, unless its on quite a haft (aka polearm) axes are more style than substance. Sword is superior again soft targets, pure bludgeoning against hard ones, neither likely to do much good against MG
>>
>>172647
then perhaps, Chainsword?
>>
Maybe a chainsaw? Redline is a car tinker right so we're kinda limited in what we could get ( aside from the awesome motorbike we'll no doubt get eventually)

We really need something precise and with penetrative power to really capitalize on any weak points we see. A spear?
A gun might honestly be best.
>>
>>172809
>>172801
CHAINMIND

if we know a tinker who'd do this for us then we know full well what we must do. at the very least for this fight.

also, we need to see The Tailor about getting another costume-case, one with a mechanical combo lock and maybe a steel cable-lock to boot, getting that shit stolen or found may be bad.
>>
>wanting to get into melee with a Brute 6
Please.
>>
>>172945
we'll HAVE to eventually.

picking how is an important decision.
>>
>>172985
>we'll HAVE to eventually.
There are many other ways to fight. Recruiting allies who can take him, bombing the shit out of him, instigate an enmity between him and someone who can take him out, dropping hints at the PRT... It's like you haven't read Worm!
>>
>>173002
except, we don't have an adequate time-frame for those unless we want to have the MG enact his nasty collateral.
>>
>>173053
Food for thought and our next probable adversary.
>>
>>173069
thats why my gear load discussions are trying to focus low cost versatility.

the chain-weapons and long-blade thrusting weapons are what we can come up with because one will work on a brute(probably) and the other one may work involving out secondary power, one's effective, the other is cheap and simple.

we need something just not sure what.
>>
>>173002
You are assuming we aren't going to go full video game retard at the moment of decision and bum rush him. American stupid decision making that led us to agreeing to blind servitude for shitty info that had maybe one piece of useful information. When it comes to it to most stereotypical "fun" murder hobo option gets picked.
>>
If we are want precise, piercing weapons I want to point out the warpick style of weapons. Anything like a hammer that comes to a point rather than a blunt end. Maybe a bashing weapon might work, not an outright given that his bones aren't breakable.
>>
>>173874
Your tears are delicious, come, fill my cup, that I may drink deeply and be sated.

Being stupidly confrontational actually makes total sense from a meta-perspective anyway, assuming you've read Worm
>>
>>174155
>Being stupidly confrontational actually makes total sense
It really doesn't. Or there wouldn't be Thinkers around. Yes, the Shards give powers calibrated for conflict, but conflict doesn't only mean guys beating up on each other till their bones break.
>>
>>174321
correct, however, shards also encourage conflict and our shard is a very physical thinker. why else would we have gotten fighting abilities.
>>
>>174321
some shards actively make their hosts straight up mental, and ours seems to be focused on human personal combat, so it would push us towards that
>>
ANYONE CONSIDER CALTROPS FOR THIS FIGHT YET?
>>
>>176727
Would probably hurt us more than him, we have softer feet.
>>
We should aim to have an array of different damage types. Piercing, slashing, bludgeoning (for the D&D monsters), electric, fire, acid, venom and sonic. Suffocation too (Carry around plastic bags to put over the cape's head). So we're always ready to exploit the otherwise invunerable's cape's one weakness.
>>
Half hour-ish hype!

Not sure how this is going to work with this still being up though...
>>
>>177737
it isn't, we're in autosage.

if you have to, invert the colours on the OP pic.

thoughts on loadouts and shit?
>>
>>177751
Ah. I can't into board mechanics, as demonstrated last time.

I won't comment or critique loadouts (can't be giving you guys help now!) but all of your input will definitely be taken into consideration.
