You are a supreme being on a young and fresh world. You are undetectable, yet you possess a specific set of powers: You can add mutations to the creatures that inhabit it.

The world itself is a simple one, a rock globe covered in a shallow see, with the deepest point being twenty meters (60ft) under water, and the shallowest half a meter (1-2 ft). Several creatures inhabit this world, yet you will only change these four, and their offspring. Will you make them thrive? Or will you make them shrivel? It is all up to you, and your friends.

Welcome to the Shallow Waters Evo game!
Rules/How to play:
>Take the art of a creature already existing, be it a basic one, or one already modified by another user. How many times it has been modified already does not matter, but make sure you are not the last person who modified it.
>Open MS Paint, or any other drawing program
>Add a small, semi-realistic mutation to the creature. That means, a thicker shell, spikes, functionless and small appendages, etc.
>Post it in the thread, with a small description of what changes you made.
>To work to something greater, like functional wings, multiple steps need to be made (eg. Minor appendage -> Big appendage -> Feathers for gliding -> Functioning wing)
>Once every while, an extinction event will take place. Any affected creature that does not adapt before it takes place, will go extinct. Extinct creatures can no longer evolve.

DO's and DON'T's
>Do participate, no matter how bad your art is. Most people are shit at MS Paint here, so never be ashamed
>Do completely change the art of a creature, if you're okay/good at art and stuff, and if you feel a creature needs it, because it's getting too full or something.
>Do work on other branches, and the creatures of others
>Do be a nice guy

>Don't complain when your OC Waifu and its entire branch goes extinct
>Don't add mutations that are too complex (eg. fully functioning eyes, incredible wings etc). Realism of the mutations themselves doesn't really matter, as long as it can be semi-scientifically explained, and again, are not too complex at once. (DO : Fire breathing because gas from the creature's gas bags are released and ignited by a small spark in the creature's throat. DONT : This creature conjures fire when breathing)
>Don't add a mutation to a creature whose last addition was also by you. This can be forgiven when no one within ~2-3 hours / 50 posts has mutated them, or they are about to go extinct.
>Don't devolve mutations made to your own creature because you dislike them or have other plans with the creature.

I will make a regularly updated evolution tree, in which all mutations/species are listed, and if they're extinct or not.
Posting separate art of the organisms for editing after this post.

I didn't make this up, though I must admit it is my first time running one. I've played many evo games on the old /tg/, and it was just going through a revive when /qst/ was born. I think there were some on here before, too.

We had one evolution game thread run by The Librarian, an unsuccessful sequel thread and another few popular threads of another evolution game. I don't think The Librarian's evolution game thread - the first on /qst/ - was archived, though.

im trying to do like a insect thing here where space time is slowed for them, figure it would help them catch prey. Although since its a mutation, the actual change is small, OP are you gonna do natural selection? Because that would increase the effects of mutations.

Our planet is cooling off! The seas are slowly getting colder and colder, and thin, easily breakable sheets of ice are starting to form on the pole-areas.

Every creature behind the red line will die out, only if their offspring is mutated to cold resistance, before the cold truly kicks in, will survive!

Also, please quote/reply to the post that has the creature in it you're about to evolve. It makes it easier for making these trees, since I know if branches are splitting or not.

Right now, they don't really interact mechanical-wise, but future extinction events may be the cause of interactions between species (for example, a predator grows too powerful, a kind of prey has gone extinct since last extinction period, stuff like that.

Damn right you can

As an unplanned side effect from the planet becoming colder, an incredible amount of gold particles has been released from the bottoms of the sea. The gold, although harmless to the skin, is dangerous when ingested by either breathing or eating, and creatures can not live without these two essential things.

You have until 20:30 CEST (1.5 hours), to mutate your creatures in such a way, they become resistant to this abundance of gold. Keep in mind that you can mutate every creature still alive, and not just the ones last in the tree.

Everything before the red line will go extinct, only its mutated offspring can live. Make sure to edit them before they disappear, because once that has happened, they can not be mutated anymore!

Some florks are lazy fucks that just sit in the same spot all day and don't swim.

They lost their tail and eat the soft parts of gold-containing creatures by trapping them in their magnetic field, and expelling the gold remains.

They're starting to look a bit like a circular blob more than a fish, although due to their camouflage you don't really see them in sandy areas.

Using the armor plating to it's advantage, the Hurk developed more of a catfish-like appearance and became a bottom feeder. It doesn't really swim as much as it did so its fins moved down for more movement on the ocean floor.

even an old design can be improved on, it seems, as the ancient miqea basica birthed a new breed,

the shell shrinks, to present less surface area to the cold waters, and the legs become more complex to allow the creature to escape predation more quickly. additionally, the mouth becomes more complex, and the feelers shrink, but secondary sensory pores develop.

My headcanon has been that those herbivorous burk descendants became very large and sluggish. They don't have to chase prey and their bony armour means freeing from predators isn't always as important.

Reedover would be slightly smaller than their prey, which is why impalement was working so well.

If they are so big, maybe they use their eye stalks to stay in hiding to launch a super quick surprise attack at a long distance. They gobble up anything that will fit in their mouth (most things) and that isn't fast enough to get away (also most things).

I gave them more advanced eyes and longer stalks.

If they are fast enough maybe they can even hunt with underwater sonic booms, taking out whole schools of fish at once.

Great winds have sprung from nowhere, creating huge waves that throw any creature from where they were trying to go. These winds are disastrous, but they have also created many muddy, temporary isles all over the globe, most of them only staying there for months at a time, before sinking again. The Burk becomes larger and heavier to better withstand the waves and wind (previous iteration and banana for scale). Its tail has become much longer to keep itself balanced against the waves. But, while some of size matters, some smaller subspecies of this creatures emerged, born from a generation that had stunted growth. This smaller subspecies is a bit nimbler, and had shed some of its armor for quicker locomotion on the muddy terrain. The speed differences isnt much, but until the world itself woudl accomodate harder terrain, they wont be speeding up significantly between evolutions

Its easier to copy paste features then redrawing stuffs sempaitachi. Altough, I only wants to do it with plant life because as always, theres so mcuh niche that we can playfully fill here

Some alienated Churks became paler due to wandering to areas with less food. Their mouth changes to make them.. more adaptable (I dont know how tho) and their body become slimmer slightly. Their fins deteriorate, and keep shedding when the animal now havent been eating in the long run, because nutrirents (right?)

Miqea now becomes Mijon. Its upper body are slow to adapt to beign exposed to the sun, and slowly losing its mass and colors. However, its lowe body thrived and becomes more hunting-centric. This is shown with it legs losing its joints to help it stands longer. Its claws are now retractable, allowing fast dine and dash. Eyes longer to see more clearly

I just thought of an extinction event that could happen like what if a virus epidemic happened

i like this a lot!

I second. Maybe new miqea and other parasites spread it to the regular herbs/carnivores and left he'll breaks loose?

Along the way, they slowly become shit eaters, straight absorbing whatever materials that comes down and lands at their domain of the bottom of the sea, using their now exposed but absorbing pore-mouths. Their size diminish, but they develop somekind of weird immunity

Murks always had troubles seeing. Different side of eyes placement sometimes happens, and with some generations of inbreeding, ends with a Murks with 4 eyes. The muddy habitat is the cause of this inbreeding, as Murks had trouble navigaitng them mud splotches, and sometimes ended up being stuck due to their armor. This cause some of them to widens the fuck of their legs to help navigate the sticky soilwater

While its cousins all being maneuverial and shit, the Reegoatver stick to the same strategy of jumping and see where the prey were, However, now, its horns become more advanced, enabling them to be split midflight to help them gain traction and stop gliding, and then spear them to the prey below as they dive again. Double horns, double the spoil.

Chart is downsized (3mb if i were to keep it as big as it was), and messier than Ted Cruz but I cba to put in too much effort today. Sorry for that.

There's some deadly muffuking virus nigger that fucks up the respiratory systems of all creatures. You know the drill: every critter behind the red line dies, and it's mutant offspring might survive. A tip: Cull some unpopular lines. Shit's getting full as fuck, and instead of developing one line all space is taken up by an array of diverse branches splitting and shitting.

While its cousin goes tall, some plants of this species decided to go wide. Same concept as before, just more intake of energy, and different coloring due to soil differences, since high winds carries some muds particles from far away locations.

the murk (muddy hork) develops small holes in their armor which lets water and air in and with a thing called Countercurrent exchange it can take in oxygen in their blood if that makes sense (it probably doesn't but it will work ;) )

forget to add, but this foreign soil that it used for its foundation, somehow caused these vibrant colored plants that grows from it to have some sort of immunity. Maybe this soil comes from the are where the virus originated? Who knows

Im confused and sleepy right now due to time differences brah, save some of my latest creations will ya?

as a parting gift, Reedout now developts even larger wingspans to give them more airborne time, thus eliminating their contact time with the infected world. Mutations caused tiny, barb like edges to grow on their beak, which help to held out the virus or whatever when they contact the water. >>217163

Oy, I just realized that yall cant post more images due to limit! This really is the worst possible timing for this to happen. Just letting yall know! Moving to a new thread seemed a rather big move, and, text based creatures can only goes so far. Maybe post the creation in another website? or another board to link it here? dunno.. since im doen drawing for the night
>>
>>217241
moving to another thread isn't that bad...
>>
Well then, the image limit has been reached. OP should open another thread, or if he can't make it I can do it.

Huh, of course, must be my groggy thinking With, the latest evo tree, as its OP, it could be a good way to start things out with newcomers. See ya there then lads

>>215944
I'll take advantage of the image limit to make a non-visual evolution. (This will be a two part evo, with the second visual part in the next thread)
The Cluster Flork develops a stronger system of gills and blood vessels to aid in breathing. They now also breath through their skin as well as gills to help filter out impurities.
