"Hmm. It doesn't look like we'd be able to do any of these before noon."

Accept the investigate woods and lure monster ones.
But we can only complete them later.

Anyway, we should eat a snack and head out to the dwarf meeting.
>>
>>211154
lets take the investigate woods quest, and then head over to the dwarf so we are on time
>>
>>211177
we probably shouldn't take the lure monster one, that high reward means it is very dangerous for the adventurer who takes it, and we are very low level
>>
>>211200
Eh we got 17 thousand from the weak ass crows.
I think if we recruit one more party members that'll be 20k for each, and be doable enough.
We need a tank to switch aggro.

You accept both the investigate woods quest and lure monster quest, and feel a familiar warmth from your guild card. Checking the map, you see two new pointers. One near the northeast quarter of the city, and one pointing far beyond in the same direction, and of course one showing your location at the guild hall.

>What do you do?
--
let me know if the map size is too large.
I had to scale up significantly to feel like I could actually show accurate locations, but I can sacrifice a bit of that if it's difficult to navigate on pc, or hard to load on phones.
>>
>>211212
Nice map!
Let's ask if she wants to head for dorf or if she wants to see the museum first.
Alternarively eris toss?

That or whatever the other anon suggests.
>>
>>211223
>>211212
Oh wait, see if any tanks wanna join up with us, around the adveturer guild hall and stuff.
>>
>>211212
lets go meet the dwarf
>>
>>211212
Meet the dwarf, then afterwards stop by the guild to see if a tanky person (Swordsman, Crusader or etc) would like to join the party and help with the Lure and Investigation quests.

Should only keep it temporary and treat todays quests as tryouts to see if they're worth keeping around long-term.
>>

Looking around the guild hall, you realize that it's really empty. In fact, the only person there is the attendant.

>"Oh, that's pretty strange."

"Maybe they're already at the library for the demonstration?"

>"Could be."
You turn to the attendant.
>"Excuse me, could you point us in the direction of the library?"

"If you wait just three seconds I'll be able to--" she's interrupted by a bell ringing, "Show you, come on!"
She dashes out from behind the counter, and gestures at the two of you to follow as she runs out the door.

She takes you to the courtyard of what you presume to be the library, where a large crowd of every kind of adventurer is gathered around a stage.

A few moments of pushing your way through the crowd later, horns trumpet the arrival of a well dressed dwarf to the stage.
He is accompanied by who were introduced to Olivia as Braun Cassidy, and the Vale twins Eyle and Oer.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I, as many of you know, am Durin Aker, renowned explorer, and collector of magics. Yesterday, myself and this group of adventurers with me returned from a six month journey through the Telveyrian Rainforests. Our goal was to witness and collect records of the magics used by the indigenous peoples strewn about the dense forestry. And, I tell you here, that we have succeeded. I hold in my hand the first printed copy of this catalog, rife with magics unseen by our culture, available for purchase later today. And now, I will have this group give you a taste of the very same. Braun, will you please take center stage?" He does so. "We encountered a culture of people who strove to create finely detailed works of art, yet also had to be large and powerful enough to survive against the harsh monsters of the rainforest. These people crafted a technique whereby even the most large and muscular could do their culture proud. Braun, would you say you have the 'artistic touch?'"

"No. My fingers used to be small enough to work with clay, but now they're just too big."

"Ladies and gentlemen, this spell right here will restore Braun's ability to mold even the smallest and most intricate clay models."

Braun shouts "Flora Mastery!" And vines sprout from the stage on both his right and left sides. They encapsulate his arms entirely, and from the ground, a much smaller plant grows to about knee height. Three stems intertwine, and split into two arm-like structures. At the tips of each are five fingers of fern-like leaves. Braun raises his right arm and waves to the crowd. The plant mimics the movement perfectly, on a smaller scale. The crowd begins clapping, and Braun and his plant bow, before he releases the spell, and the plant returns into the stage.

"While we were away, Braun toiled endlessly to master this spell despite his lack of magical experience, so he could make his wife a present for when he returned. I'm told she loved it."
The crowd releases a collective "Aww"

"Now, I'm sure all the adventurers in the audience are wondering what kind of skills are available with some more let's say destructive potential."
Hoots and hollers arise from the crowd.
"Eyle, Oer, please take the stage. We came across a group of people who had developed techniques for preserving food magically, and in turn, they had developed a ritual of sorts. Large monsters were hunted all at once, and the food gathered would be used for the whole year.
The most advanced archery technique available to them, honed over generations to be incredibly powerful, would always be used by the husband and wife who ruled the tribe to slay the largest monster. Only usable by a pair of incredibly skilled archers whose hearts beat in tune, this skill does immense damage, and drains all of both users mana, and leaving only enough stamina to stand up. And before you get worried, the Vale twins have both taken stamina recovery potions. Bring out the beast!"

The horns you heard at the beginning of the show resume, and in time with the rest of the crowd, you turn around, faced by a giant wooden dragon.

"Now, prepare your eyes for the most dazzling ranged spell you've ever seen!"

The Vale twins give each other a nod, and raise their bows toward the dragon and shout, "Venus Arrow!"
An array of lights emanates from the twins, the mana visibly flowing between their two souls. As they fire their arrow, the mana follows, accelerating into the arrows. The arrows glow, merge, and the resulting projectile accelerates instantaneously beyond the sound barrier. When the spectacle is over, the entire upper half of the dragon is missing, and a part in the clouds is visible far away.

The crowd bursts into applause, and although the twins look faint, they still manage a bow.

"Ladies and gentleman I believe you are now aware of the power held in the words on these pages, and I assure you that you will not be disappointed with this book. And with that, I bid you adieu!"

After another round of applause, and a bow from the whole group on stage, a good portion of the crowd lines up before a desk labeled "Purchase orders."

"That ranged attack was... wow." Says Olivia.
You simply nod in agreement.

Your hands are red white and blue by the time you're finished clapping at that marvelous display.
Looking around the crowd, you see a few heavily armored adventurers, but only one that seems alone, standing in the line.
She's a blonde woman, much taller than average. Her armor seems religiously themed, leading you to believe she's a paladin or crusader.

>How do you approach her?

>>212571
Every time you level up, you can increase one stat by one point, up to 18. Anything beyond that is gained through training with masters.

>"Excuse me, miss, can we ask you something?"

"Me?" You nod. "Yes, of course."

>"My sister and I are in need of a companion later today, someone with experience, and high endurance, to help balance our efforts. Would you happen to be interested?"

"Huh? Y-your sister... And you? B-but... I don't know why you're asking me, I... I'm not very experienced..."

>How do you respond?
>>
>>213222
Well, since I am a Mage and Olivia is an archer, we need a fighter or tank to balance out party out, and you didn't seem to have a party with you, so we thought it might be worth it to ask. Experience doesn't really matter since we are new at it ourselves anyways.
>>
>>213222

We're not that experienced as well. It will be a learning exercise for all of us, but that will be harder to accomplish with an unbalanced team composition. So we decided to turn to those willing to work together and triumph in combat. In short, we need someone to tank for us.

"Oh I uh... You meant as a party member! I had misunderstood, the mere thought, two siblings, partners in the crime of forbidden love, pressuring me into acts untold and unspeakable in public presence, drives me near to the point of insanity!"
As she is speaking, her face gets more and more red, and her voice forced out between faster, more shallow breaths, but she quickly forces herself back into composure, "Which is... A bad thing... of course.
But, I am already part of a party, they were simply uninterested in coming to see this, which is unfortunate for them. They don't know what they missed, a strongman controlling vines capable of ensnaring and halting their target, the explosion of magic leaving a ringing in my ears, the shower of splintered wood just beneath the felled dragon!" She gets red faced and short of breath again, and similarly comes back to reality just as quickly.
"So I am afraid I must decline your most gracious offer.
Unless of course you intend to force it upon me..."

"Y-you mean..."

>"Yes. And much much more."
She bites her lip and gulps.

>"You see, we could very well force you to join our party, but that would be too easy."

"How... do you mean?"
Her face is beginning to redden.

>"We know it would work on you; someone so weak willed as a low level, inexperienced knave such as yourself, but we prefer a challenge. We prefer prey that runs when we try to catch it."

"I... I... I want to run away from you... but I don't either, I'm so conflicted! Tell me what to do!"

"Yes... Yes! Tell me what I want!"

>"You want to obey my sister and I, like a squire again."

"Y-Yes commanders... And... And w-what of my r-r-rank?"

She steps toward you, "Yes?"

>"Will be,"

Another step, and she begins extending her arms toward your shoulders, "...yes?"

>"Stripped."

She moans, and it follows through into a screamed "Yes!"
"Oh, goddesses! Please allow me to join your party!"
She leans in towards you, arms hovering just over your shoulders.

And you step back, allowing her to fall, and immediately dissolving the mood.
>"Ok. Well, we're going on a quest in a little bit, see you then," and you walk away.

The woman lay silent on the ground with a blank expression,
"I just let that man manipulate me.

>>
>>213582
Lets go start that luring quest!
>>
>>213582
Wait, what happened to the blue bra? eh anyway, some sort of snare or caltrop to slow the beast seems a good investment, after all it seems like the quest might be more dangerous than expected, what with its referencing the fact that to outrun a beast you don't need to run faster than the beast, just faster than the slowest person with you, which seems to be what they're hiring us for. so yeah caltrops, maybe some form of paralytic to smear on said caltrops if it's not too expensive, have olivia handle them since traps etc fit her rogue/ranger specialization better and might contribute to unlocking a class or something.
>>
>>213598
well, we have a tank for that now, lets ask her if she thinks we need anything else or if we should just go.
>>
>>213582

My insane idea is to go to some back-corner alleyway and purchase some high quality monster hormones you apply onto your skin. When we start to bait the monster, liberally lather Darkness in the hormones by hand all over her bare body and have her run like hell to the capture area. Some crazy stuff might happen, and Darkness probably will hate you for the rest of her life, but the profit is worth it.

Way too tired to think of anything rational. I'll try harder tomorrow.

"I highly doubt we'll have to do any fighting of our own, or purchase any kind of bait or traps beforehand.
This seems to me like the high level party just couldn't get the monster to risk an encounter with them, even with bait and traps, so they want to trick it into believing that some more easily devoured low level adventurers are in over their heads, and then ambushing it."

>"Well everyone, if that's the case, I think we're ready to go questing."

Olivia nods, and Darkness says "Very well."

Following the pointer on your map leads you out of the northeast gate of the city, towards a valley between two mountains. Eventually, you come to a small outcropping of forestry within the foothills, and your map shows you very close to the quest's location.
Delving into the woods, you eventually spot a small encampment of three tents and a campfire pit. Sitting around it are three adventurers, each in heavy armor, carrying impressive weapons.
"Are you here about the quest?"
>"Yes."
"Good. My name is Hans, and with me here are Kataya and Aaron. Sit down, we'll explain the situation."

The situation they explain happens to be identical to the idea posed by Darkness back by the library.

"And that's really all there is to it. All you have to do is wait by the cave entrance until the monster appears, and bring it back to us. We'll take care of the fighting. Once that starts, you guys get out of here and wait by the northeast entrance of the city."

>"That's fine with me."

"I have a question," says Olivia, "What exactly is this thing, anyway?"

"You heard about that nest of bearcows?"

>"Yeah."

"This is there momma bear. Cow."

"Oh. Well that is certainly illuminating."

>"And if we have to resort to fighting?"

"Aim for the brain. And I don't mean the bearcow."
You're given a platter of foul smelling raw meats, and shown the cave. And with that, your watch begin.

Oh man I was making so many mistakes last night
(2.2)
You and Olivia take up post on a few rocks near the cave mouth, but Darkness insists upon standing directly in front of it.
About an hour passes before you hear a roar from inside, and you can feel slight vibrations in the ground.

"It's coming!" Shouts Darkness.
The vibrations get more intense and you can discern a pattern within them. This thing must be very large if these are from it stepping.

Confirming your suspicions, or rather expectations, a huge nose emerges from the cave, well above Darkness's head. It sniffs around, before dipping down to sniff the platter of meat.
Darkness hasn't moved an inch in this experience, and the head emerges further to begin eating the meats.

When the creature has finished its meal, it comes slowly forward, revealing it to have the head and coloration of a cow, but the body of a bear. It quickly becomes apparent that the bearcow is coming directly for Darkness, but she remains steeled.
It sniffs her, gives her a lick from toe to head, and begins to turn around, slowly reentering the cave.

After a few seconds, Darkness falls to her knees and wraps her arms around herself, her face significantly red.

>What do you do?
>>
>>213951
Get its attention, without violence. If it doesn't work, hit and run towards Hans and others
>>
>>213974

>"Hey! Bearcow! Aren't you hungry for some level twos?"

The bearcow stops for a moment and looks at you. You go up to it.

It sniffs you, licks you, and turns back toward the cave.

>"Okay then."

You go up and punch the bearcow as hard as you can, and it emits a grunt, turning toward you again. It pushes you over with its paw.
Evidently it's not in the mood to fight.

>What do you do?
>>
>>213974

See if Darkness is still capable of fighting, then have her damage the bearcrow with her weapon enough to get it mad at her, then run like hell. If possible, have Olivia knock out one of the bearcow's legs to slow it down and give you a chacne to run away and try again later.

You and Olivia decide that the best course of action would be to force the beast out of the cave Through some alternative means. You ask Darknes to collect Some firewood, and you assemble a ring of rocks at the mouth of the cave. When she returns, you light a fire, and you wait.
About half an hour passes before the cave begins to look very hazy. Another fifteen minutes, and you hear a roar from within.
The bearcow emerges from the cave once again, slowly, carrying in its mouth a cub. It sets it outside, roars at you, and reenters, presumably to get more of her young.

An idea springs to mind.
You dash over to the cub, and pick it up. It immediately starts crying out in <that way that young bears cry out I guess,> and you hear a roar from inside the cave, followed by vibrations.

You make a mad dash towards the camp, while calling out,
>"Darkness, put out the fire! Olivia, shoot at the mother!"

The bearcow explodes from the cave, knocking over a tree in its skid. It starts coming after you at high speed, but you're confident that you can reach the camp before it catches up to you.
Olivia fires five more arrows, only two of which hit their mark on the fast moving creature.

You reach the camp, and look around. You don't see Hans or the others, but you do hear his voice,
"Set down the cub, get behind a tree!"

You do so, and just as the mother bearcow reaches the camp, vines sprout from the ground, and trap the creature in place, no doubt being controlled by Kataya and Aaron. Hans emerges from behind another tree with a bow and arrow, however rather than a normal tip, the arrow has a corked bottle on the end, filled with a blue solution.

He calmly waits, bow drawn, and when the bearcow roars, he fires the solution into her mouth. Nearly immediately, she falls asleep, and the vines retract.

Darkness and Olivia catch up to you and join you in the conversation with Hans.
"Thanks for being our bait," he says, "Now all we have to do is go get the cubs and bring them here, and they'll drink the milk and fall asleep too. Then, the contractors we hired can get to work transporting her to a habitat."

"That's fantastic, I was worried you were going to kill her," says Olivia.
"I was under that impression as well," adds Darkness.

You shake Hans's hand, and he gives you your 60,000e payment.

You finish lunch with Darkness around 1:30pm, and ask her to take you to meet her party.

She takes you to a very nice, and very large mansion, where she invites you inside.
"Holy hell, they must be loaded."
>"They're probably all really good, too, since Darkness can't hit anything."

"Please, come this way, I'll take you to the dining hall."

She leads you through a mahogany door to a scene you never thought you'd see.

"Megumin, you can't live off of explosions! You have to eat!"
An average looking guy has a young girl pinned on the dining table pushing a banana toward her mouth.
"It's for your own good, Megumin!" Says a blue haired girl, holding the young girls' arm in place.
"No! I am a crimson demon, commander of the most powerful magics known, incapable of conquest! Not by man, and not by hunger! I am Megffmffmn," Her speech is interrupted by a banana finding its way between her lips. She tries to speak more, still muffled by the banana, before she just sits still and stares at the guy in silence. She then slowly and deliberately takes a bite of the banana, and chews. But, she quickly spits it out and resumes flailing, "Megumin! User of explosion magic, and only explosion magic! The blood of my ancestors was spilled so that you may be here in my presence, mortal!"

"Megumin, just eat the banana! You'll starve to death!"
"He's right, Megumin, you can't survive like this, every time you've used explosion magic it's been getting weaker, and... Hm?" The blue haired girl interrupts herself as she looks up and sees her party member standing in the doorway accompanied by two.

"Oh, Darkness is back, with people. How was the book unveiling?"
Before she has the chance to answer, the guy says "Good, you're back, can you come here for a second?"

"Oh, yes of course Kazuma."
She walks over.

"Alright, Megumin, is this just about the banana, do you not like them? Look, bananas are good, see, Darkness likes them!"

>>214946
He places the banana on Darknesses' lips, flicking it across their surface gently, and her face starts to redden. He supports her head from behind as the banana parts her lips, finding its way into her mouth. She makes short noises interspersed between shallow breaths, and her face gets hotter. The banana reaches in, pushing its underside along her tongue, before reaching its limit, and pulling back out slowly, giving Darkness some respite. She speaks as best she can with the impediment of the fruit, "K-Kazuma..." And she moans.
Before she can speak further, the banana pushes in more quickly than before, and exiting just as fast, each time reaching slightly farther back, before a final push leads it just a little too far, and she almost gags.
The banana leaves her mouth followed by her toungue, still connected by a glistening string of saliva.
"That fruit... So rudely shaped and solid, being forced upon me by Kazuma, a friend..."

>"Okay, I really have to say something, and I mean no offense when I do, but these names are getting out of hand. I've met a Hans, I've met a Gus, I've met a scottish Dwarf named Durin, but this just seems strange."
You point from left to right at Darkness, Megumin, Kazuma, and the blue haired girl,
>"Darkness, I consider you my friend; your name is a noun. Your name is made up, your name sounds Japanese, which I know isn't right, and you... I don't know your name."
"Aqua."
>"Thank you. Your name is also batshit."

Darkness says "No offense taken. If you wish to insult my name further, you are... f-free to."

Kazuma speaks up, "Wait, did you say Japan?"
Then Olivia does, "Wait, Aqua?"

Your eyes widen,
>"Oh... Sorry everyone but us four are going to go over here outside this very soundproof door, pay us no mind!"
You punctuate with nervous laughter, and usher Kazuma, Aqua, and Olivia into the hall, closing the door behind you.

You and Kazuma speak at the same time,
>"You're from Earth!"

>What do you say to follow up?
>>
>>216161
America, not Britain or something before you ask. So how long have you been here? And Aqua you are the goddess who Olivia said was screwing things up, right? What Item did you get when you came here Kazuma? What level and class are you? Do you know anyone else from earth around here? (don't say everything at once, wait for his answers, answer whatever he asks back that is just general stuff like we are asking him)

"About ten days. You?"
>"Today is my second day. What item did you choose, Kazuma?"
"Aqua. She was making fun of how I died, so I brought her with me to get back. I guess you did the same thing?"
>"No actually, I asked for a magical box that when opened would give me a random item unbounded by the size of the box."
"Oh, that sounds pretty neat."
>"Yeah, but it's kinda given us jack shit that we can use, just some stuff that we could pawn off. Who knows, maybe there are still some rules to learn about its use."
>"Oh, speaking of, Aqua, this doesn't happen to be your does it?"
You brandish the blue bra.
"Would you look at that, it does! But you can keep it, I never wear those things anyway!"
You and Kazuma eye each other, and he nods with a blank expression.
>"So, what level are you?"
"Six."
>"Class?"
"Adventurer."
>"Oh, I didn't even know that was a class. What's the class skill?"
"What's a class skill?"
>"Uh... N-nevermind,"
and you wave it off.
>"Know any other people from Earth?"
"Yeah, there was this one guy, what was his name?"
"Mirror Sushi, I think"
"Yeah that sounds right. He was a real asshole, probably owned a few fedoras on Earth, kept talking about protecting Aqua from evil men like me. Liked to flash his fancy sword around."
>"So what happened?"
"I stole it, pawned it off."
>"...Oh, okay."
"Yeah, no worries here though, you seem cool."
>"Backatcha. And Aqua, you're the goddess who kept screwing things up, right? Olivia's words, not mine."
"No, I'm the leader, and most valuable member of the party."
"By that she means she's always begging me for money and spending all her skill points on party tricks."
"That's no way to speak of your leader! My party tricks keep up morale. I do have a question for you though, Olivia, exactly how did you end up down here?"
"I'd like to know as well. How come... uh"
>">>(you)"
"Thank you. >>(you) gets a good goddess and a magical item, but I get stuck with this deadbeat birthday party magician, and nothing to my name?"

>>
>>216273
I want to learn explosion magic, that sounds badass, also, how did you get such a nice house in only 10 days?
>>
>>216277
"We're going to defeat his army!" says Aqua.
"Says the girl who plays with finger fountains in battle. Look, in all honesty, I don't think we can beat the devil king. We've beaten one of his generals via fluke, and we saved the city from a massive magical destruction machine, also by fluke. We got this house from a fluke. Relying on flukes isn't a sound strategy. If any of us want to have a chance, we need to hard level, push ourselves well beyond the physically possible now, plan ahead months in advance our progression, save up for the perfect gear that synergizes well with our skills, and perfect the skills we do have. But you know what I want? I want to live comfortably, free from that lifestyle.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but you were getting ready to suggest we join parties? Well while I'm not necessarily against it, I doubt it would do you much good.
You'll level much slower, as in parties of three or greater, XP from kills is shared among all members, regardless of presence. Since us four barely ever actually do any quests, you'd just be hoisting dead weight, allowing the EXP you need to just bleed away. Plus, the highest level monsters in kill quests will probably totally ignore you due to your level."

Gonna have to look for cheese strategies... one that stands out was something from bravely default that allowed you to attack then be invincible for 2 turns while you recovered AP easy and safe. but since things are using a dice roll+ modifier system we probably just want to stack modifiers like hell, maybe see if we can stack olivia's dodge modifier super high then get her a skill where attacks re-target to her so we have an evasion tank while we stack magic damage mods for untyped damage so we don't have to deal with elemental resistances...

You explain to Darkness and Megumin the arrangement:
>"Rather than form one large party that intermittently goes on quests and levels slowly, it's more efficient to do quests in smaller numbers more often, bringing along only those that the need justifies. With proper management, this multi-party guest member arrangement could even double the rate at which we all level up. Darkness, you could become stronger, and face even more incredibly over-leveled tentacle-y monsters, and you may even be able to push yourself over that plateau, and actually be able to hit things. Megumin, you could increase your intelligence and mana, making it possible to cast more than one explosion per day, or even larger ones, or both. Aqua, you could learn even grander party tricks, and Kazuma, you could keep... doing whatever you're doing... but better!"
Olivia steps in, "This wouldn't be without effort, though. This will take dedication, and study, and hard work. It would mean more than a quest or two every couple days. We'll be fighting, strategizing, learning, and exploding things every day. Multiple quests, pushing our limits."
>"Well, I mean for the most part you can keep doing what you've been doing, actually. Just whenever you do a quest, consider who would be best suited for it, and we'll do the same."
"This is fine with me!' says Aqua, giving you a thumbs up.
Megumin, Darkness, and Kazuma join her, and you and Olivia return it.

Let's name the clan Earth. That way we can say we are from earth without it being a normal to this worlds people and find other people from earth easily.
>>
>>217799
Not bad
>>
>>217799
yeah, simple, draws the right people and has decent symbolic meaning, Earth is good.
>>
>>217598
hmm, I figured a list of the common class skills would be library material... guess I can see where those rebels are coming from if we have to buy basic skill info for starting classes...
>>
I small celebration is in order.

Also ask if they have a spare room you and Olivia can stay in.

Inb4 conveniently only one bedroom available.

You suggest the name Earth, and the rest give their approval.
>>217927
You also ask if they have any spare rooms, and conveniently, they have precisely 1, which they offer to you.
You accept their generosity, and
>what do you do next

Also, I'm keeping the map up to date with locations, quest markers, and your position. I don't think I can add it to the spreadsheet, so if you want to see it, just ask.
>>

Well, time for class skill research even if we do have to buy the info I guess. that or a trip to the museum.

You suggest that the quest involves a late night woods investigation, and that it might get pretty spooky, ghosts and skeletons and such, and Aqua and Megumin back out in traditional Shaggy-Scooby fashion.
You half expect Darkness to jump at the opportunity to be possessed by sex deprived non corporeal nymphomaniacs, but she calmly declines when she picks up on your nefarious implications of ghosts and possession.
"I'm sorry, I would love to, but I have something that needs my attention."

Leaving only Kazuma, you turn to him, and he shrugs.
You shrug too, and wave to the other three, as you begin heading out the door.
>"So, you got any special moves?"
"Nope, just high luck. You?"
>"Not in the slightest."
He looks at Olivia. She shakes her head. "20 dex, though."
"Oh nice, Ranger or Rogue?"
"Both. My bow gives me extra stamina regen, so I can fire while running easily, and I can also muffle my motions. Deadly combination."
"Damn, that's cool."
"Thanks."
"Aqua can... uh... make water clean."
"Neat."
"Huh, yeah."

You arrive at the location marked on your map, an even grander mansion than that of Kazuma's party, and you knock on the door.
A very elderly man arrives to greet you.

"Hello, are you from the guild?"
>>
>>219352
Yes.
>>
>>219368
"Oh good, please, come in and allow me to explain the situation."

He takes you to an expansive fireplace room.
"Please, sit."

>"Thank you.'

"I suppose it's best to jump straight to work, so I'll do just that. My name is Esberg. We, being my dog and I, have been hearing noises from the woods late at night for the past few days now. They're hard to describe, but imagine a low horn mixed with the high pluckings of a lute. They come slowly, and build. You wont even know you'd heard it until it was over unless you were listening for it. They usually start around ten o'clock."

It's currently 9:00 pm.

>Do you have any questions for him?
>>
>>220020
none that I can think of (surprised aqua turned down likely undead purging)
>>
>>220020
So...In the meantime, ask kazuma "...Yo, Are succubi a thing here?" in a whisper so olivia doesn't hear. but other than that, no questions.
>>
>>220020
Ask if they've ever been outside when it started, and if they have, if they've seen anything different at all, or perhaps if they've seen a potential source of the sound.
>>
>>220020
Oh yeah, also, ask when the sounds end.
>>
>>220063
>>220105
>>220141
>"Have you ever been outside when it started? Did you see anything strange?"

"Well, the first night I heard them, I leashed up Digby and went outside to try and find it. Pretty soon we figured out it was coming from the woods, and even with Digby with me, I have the sense not to enter the woods at night so unguarded. I never saw anything, though."

>"And when do the sounds usually end?"

"Last night I had a bit of trouble sleeping. I woke up at about midnight to what sounded like one of the noises very close by, but Digby wasn't barking, so I assumed it to be a trick of my tired mind. I could still hear the noises by the time I fell asleep, around one in the morning. I can't tell you when exactly they end. Can I make you some tea while we converse?"

You and Kazuma respectfully decline, but Olivia takes him up on his offer.

While he's away, you lean in to Kazuma and whisper,
>"So, are succubi a thing here?""
He glances around, "Yeah, but they don't do it like that. They give you lucid dreams in exchange for a small amount of life force. But if you're staying at the party house, you have no chance of ever getting it to work. I tried it once, they send a succubus to you while you're sleeping to give you the dream, but Aqua has the house on tight demon lockdown."

The old man returns with Olivia's tea, and some for himself.

You notice an incredibly soft and low hum.
You exit to the porch, to look into the woods, yet the hum oddly sounds no louder than before.
You watch the woods for a solid fifteen minutes. Nothing. The sound doesn't get louder, either.

>what do you do?
>>
>>220297
ask Olivia is she can tell anything different because she is a goddess?
>>
>>220302
>"Do you have any idea what this could be?"
"No. It's not natural though. This is something magical. Not necessarily man made, but there's some source where mana is flowing."

At that moment, the sound becomes ever so slightly louder. If you hadn't been actively listening to the sound, you wouldn't have noticed the change.
>>
>>220335
It might be getting closer, whatever it is. Start looking around the house and the area. See if you can detect the mana?
>>
>>220342
You look around the exterior of the house, you cant find anything.
You are confident however that if you found the mana source, you would know it.
>>
>>220391
Right then, we go forward with olivia keeping us covered with her bow, can we hold a shock spell on the end of our wand to provide light/ to have ready in case?
>>
>>220391
hold on to a fireball or shock spell if we can, whichever makes the most light
>>
>>220391
Start going into the woods, I suppose. If it hasn't attacked the house yet, it still probably shouldn't. Is the sound growing as you walk around? Or is it just staying the same?

You start heading to the woods, now confident that the mana source is at least somewhere in that direction.
The sound also becomes slightly louder.
>>
>>221200
Within the forest, you and Olivia begin walking in the direction of the sound. However, it does not become louder. You soon find yourself at a split in the trodden path, one left, and one right.
You also notice a distinctive bush at the split.
>which way, friendos
>>
>>221308
Check out that bush, man.
>>
>>221315
You lean in to the bush. It has a few bird berries on it, the leaves are small and almond shaped, the branches almost look like a hand reaching from the ground.
However, nothing makes it seem that it is the mana source.
>>
>>221350
Shake the hand, then if nothing happens, take the left path.
>>
>>221350
Uproot the bush? Or at least talk to it.
>>
>>221384
>>221408
You tentatively reach in and grab around the elongated branches, and make a motion like you're shaking its hand. You also say,
>"H-hello? Bush?"
Olivia just looks at you.
"It's a bush."
>"You can't fault me for trying."
"Yes, I can."
You stand up, brushing some dirt and pine needles off your knees, and head down the left path.

As you're walking down the path, you notice an intersection. Marked by a small boulder, there is another path that continues to your right.

>what do you do?
>>
>>221617
Oh, shoot, this is going to be some sort of maze, isn't it. Bush, then boulder. Okay, keep heading left, I suppose.
>>
>>221632
Continuing left takes you to a larger area. A circular path surrounds an island of bushes and trees. You can see four paths in total, including the one you just came through. The four paths leave in the cardinal directions. Even though you dont quite have your bearings, you decide that you just came up the southernmost of those four.
>what do you do?

Heading left from the wall takes you to a small clearing with a stump in the center. There is a single path forward, which leads you to a split in the trodden path, one left, and one right. You also notice a... hold on.
>"We're back at the start!"
"Oh, fuck, is it one of these?"
>"I hate these."

>What do you do?
>>
>>221858
Backtrack, go right. Or look for a secret door in the cliff face

>>

>>221991
You and Olivia inspect the wall for clues or secrets. You find a loose piece of slate, and taking it off reveals a flat surface, the words "I'm sorry you had to see," somewhat sloppily inscribed.

Further inspection reveals nothing.
You take a right, and find yourself in a clearing with an overgrown flower garden, and an old shack.
The path runs straight through this area.
>What do you do?

>>222011
Check out the shack. Flower garden is a trap.

>>222011
investigate shack
>>
>>222011
We're still hearing the noise, right? It's not changing?
>>
>>222012
>>222018
Inside the shack, you find gardening typical gardening tools, along with a shovel, a work table, a stool, a lot of cobwebs, and a dusty tarp, draped over the edge of the table.

>>222019
The noise has not changed since you and Olivia decided to enter the woods to look for the mana source.
>>
>>222024
pull the tarp off the table
>>
>>222024
Grab the shovel. Take the tarp off the table, and inspect it
>>
>>222028
Pulling off the tarp reveals an architectural drawing of Esberg's mansion. There is an X on the left side of the building,
Under the table, having been made accessible by pulling away the tarp, you find a painting, of a man and a woman, both fairly young. "The Hendersons" is inscribed on the bottom of the frame.
You find nothing new beyond that in the shack.
You take the shovel, and exit.
>What do you do?"
>>
>>222024
Is there anything on the work table? Also, could we have a time check? How long have we been out here?

Let's leave the path, since we aren't getting anywhere. Do the shovel path thing.
>>
>>222196
>>222197
You walk off through the vegetation, in the direction you hear the noise, whacking bushes, and clearing any spider's webs within ten feet of you at Olivia's behest.
Eventually, you see what looks to be some edge to the forestry.
You push through it triumpantly, but are quickly disappointed as you see Esberg's mansion. The noise now seems to be coming from the opposite direction it once was, but as you turn your head to face the woods in confusion, the direction of the noise follows you, eventually finding itself back to its original direction.
"Son of a bitch! Why can't this shit ever be easy.
What the fuck are we missing, then, huh, you god damn forest?"
>>

Go examine the part of the mansion that was marked with an X. If it was outside, use the shovel and dig

>inb4 dead bodies
>>
>>222222 who got it

>>222231
You go to the spot. It looks like normal side paneling, but as you get closer, holding a fireball for light, you notice some thin lines along one panel. You wiggle it, and reveal a very small storage area. Inside is a jewelry box.
Opening the box reveals a few pairs of earrings, a beautiful ring, two bracelets, and an empty pedestal with a circular indentation.
>>
>>222277
Go back to the paths and go left at the first split
>>
>>222303
You re-enter the woods, and go left.
"So do you have any ideas about what's going on?
Just, what are your thoughts?"

You continue walking, and you're greeted by the path that extends off to the right, marked by the small boulder.
>>
Oh boy, just realized we're at the 3-day bump limit again.
