Sorry john, but when I hear 'die in game, die in real life' I feel information is vital to survival.

Fuck he has 1 int still doesn't he? He should see the benefit of trying with his WIS though. Oh well
>>
>>237859
I think getting every stat up to 10 is a pretty solid bet desu.
>>
(Continued from last post)

You head back to your room in the inn to read. You leaf through the book looking at the table of contents and the various sections. The book is divided into three parts:
1. Basics of Rituals: Covers what a ritual is and how it works. its a short section, maybe an hour's worth of reading
2. Dailys: A medium sized section which covers rituals that can be done on a daily basis. You can cover 2 maybe 3 rituals.
3. Advanced: By far the longest section, each ritual is detailed and complex and depends on a multitude of conditions to carry out. The effects seem to be pretty neat however. You might be able to learn 1 ritual from this section if you spend the whole day on it.
>>
>>237897
Let's try and combine Basics and Dailys.
>>
>>237897
backing
>>237948
But option 2 if we can only do one.
>>
>>237897

>>
>>237868
Agreed. I know I'm spitting in the wind but do we want to do a 3/2 rotation each level on stats? Say every odd level we put 3 in INT and 2 elsewhere and every even level we put 2 in INT and 3 elsewhere until we hit a goal? like 30 INT?
>>
>>237897
>>237948
Seconded. Basics and dailys.
>>
>>237970
INT and CON are the only stats we need.
>>
>>237970
3/2 rotation sounds like a good idea.

Every level we swap between 3 int/3 wis, and split the last two points between Con and Dex? I really want to go Spellsword desu.
>>
>>238008
No, we need Wisdom too, since it determines the maximum complexity of our custom rituals.

I want us to eventually develop an ability that lets us animate suits of armor and shit though. Like Darknuts from the original Legend of Zelda.
>>
>>238020
I agree, wis is important. The magic that we'll learn anyways is cool and all but who's gonna fuck with a guy that can summon the souls of vengeful gatorants and stick them in suits of armor?
>>
>>237859
John better appreciate that we're trying to keep him alive. Stakes are too high, man.

You apportion your time to studying the Basics section and a few rituals from the Dailys. John just reads his book front to back since its written in a novel-style. This takes you and John the whole day, with breaks for lunch and dinner, during which you discuss what you've read with each other.

According to the book: ...rituals are the game's construct for allowing wizards to manipulate something called the 'aether'. The 'aether' is basically an ambient energy which governs the game's reality. Spirits can manipulate the aether freely, as can Mages (who are beings of aether). Wizards manipulate the aether by summoning, contracting or binding these spirits. Rituals are the means by which these things are done and are consequently divided into three broad categories based on these three actions.

At its most basic, a ritual is just a series of conditions which leads to some effect. The more stringent the conditions, the greater the allowance for the magnitude of the effect. Conditions come in 4 types:
1. Temporal: Having to do with time, either duration or some specific time (e.g full moon, new year, sunrise etc.)
2. Spatial: Having to do with location or position but necessarily in a strictly physical sense (e.g outside, in the rain, on a tree, underground etc.)
3. Material: Having to do with reagents or items that part of the ritual. This is by far the most useful as a single rare reagent can dramatically increase the allowed magnitude without making things too complicated.
4. Action: Having to do with things the wizard himself must do (e.g sing, speak a specific incantation, draw runes, dance a specific dance, etc.)

Anyone can do a ritual, not just wizards. But making even a tiny error in the ritual (especially if it is a complex one) can lead to catastrophe, and so, most people stay away. But, properly executed, rituals can grant unimaginable power without the gifts of a Cleric or Mage. Binding the spirits of legendary warriors to ones own flesh, summoning elementals that can annihilate entire cities, contracting the powers of even the Spirit Kings, all this can be done and has been done through proper rituals. But failure too, has its price...

The next section on Dailys is bit boring. It reads more like a cookbook than anything else, but you learn two new rituals. One is an incantation which you copy into your spellbook. The other is a more involved (yet still basic) ritual. Your character sheet gets updated as well:

(1/2)
>>
>>238102
sixteen minutes later
>>

>Spells

Summon Lesser Elemental - Summons an elemental (a spirit which has control over an element) for as long as the wizard is conscious. The elemental can do some minor manipulations of its respective element.

Contract Lesser Spirit - Allows you to contract an lesser spirit, giving you its skill and proficiency for period equal to 5+Wis minutes.

>Rituals

Bind Fallen Foes - Allows you bind the spirit of an enemy you have killed onto an object for a time.
- Needs 'essence of enemy'
- Needs 2 gold coins
- Needs runes to be drawn
- Repeating releases former spirit
- Spirit is bound until the next full moon (30 days) or object is broken, or the ritual is performed again

Hmm, according to the book the 'essence' can be a heart or a brain or anything of that nature and has to be cleaned then ground into a paste which is then used to draw the runes. The object is kept in the exact center of the runes and two gold coins are flung into the rune circle to complete the ritual. As for the repetition, you can only bind one spirit to one object at a time. Not particularly useful for selling (though you could just scam people...maybe.).

As for John's book, its more interesting to read than yours (according to him, anyway). John explains that 'ether' is basically the counterpart to aether. Its an intrinsic energy which is produced by the body and goes up with the Constitution stat. However only the Cleric class can actually use the ether. The titular 'Five Paths' refers to the five different ways ether can be used and the section for each:
1. Reinforcement
2. Reconstruction
3. Transformation
4. Conjuration
5. Nullification

Unfortunately, John only managed to finish the first two sections, covering Reinforcement and Reconstruction. Reinforcement allows the ether to strengthen oneself or an object physically. Reconstruction allows the ether to rebuild things to a former state, basically healing. John tells you that, gathering all of his ether into his fist and reinforcing it feels like his fist will explode.

He also tells you that ether is regained through rest or meditation. All in all, pretty useful information. In the morning the books have automatically dissappeared a note left in their place saying:

Please shop at MagicMart again!
>>
>>238172
Cool. Let's do the Bind Fallen Foes ritual with a gatorant heart and bind it to our new shoes. See what happens.
>>
>>238172
Let's try binding a gator spirit to our boots, using a brain.
>>
>>238172
> in the morning
Nahhhh we had 24 hours bruh. Assuming it's like eight we should have at least like seven more hours.
>>
>>238193
Fair enough.

The books disappear from your hands around early afternoon (but that doesn't change anything)
>>
>>238193
It did say for a day. Fucking pricey but...yeah

>>238102
So if I'm reading the GoogleDoc account of last thread right and this correctly, we could create a ritual that has effect: Lesser with condition Material: Gatorant Scale...we could get a spell of Lesser Protection?

>The more stringent the conditions, the greater the allowance for the magnitude of the effect

If we also add Condition: Chant "Shield me!" will the effect be better? Would it be more effective if the chant was longer/more detailed?
>>
>>238210
Derp, reread. Complexity determines magnitude of "conditions"
>>
The more difficult the conditions is to meet, the more it increases the allowance for the effect, but at the same time, the greater its complexity. Hence why incantations are just nonsense syllables strung together (making them hard to memorize or speak).
>>
>>238238
I thought we also had to know the effect in question? Like last time we tried to create a ritual, we could only choose from like Summon, Lesser, and Elemental.
>>
>>238238
Do we now know effect Contract and Spirit based on the spell we learned from the book?
What is their complexity?
>>
>>238251
>>238264
Looking at the ritual creation menu again you see the effects list has updated:

Ritual Creation

Maximum Complexity: 8

1. Choose an effect
You know of the following effects:
- Summon [5]
- Contract [5]
- Bind [5]
- Lesser [5]
- Elemental [5]
- Spirit [5]

2. Choose a condition(s)
- Time
- Space
- Material
- Action
>>
>>238279
We should try and create 'Bind Lesser Elemental'.

What kind of shit would we need for that? It'd be Complexity 15, so... What if, for a reagent, we used 1 GP, and brain-matter? Along with having to be cast during sunrise.
>>
>>238287
Unless I'm misunderstanding it and Complexity isn't reduced by conditions. But that's what I'm gathering so far.
>>
>>238290
Actually, from reading the old thread
> It
looks like the 'maximum complexity' score determines the magnitude of the
'conditions' you can apply in step 2. And the conditions are basically the
things you have to do in order to complete the rituals. The categories for the
effects are probably determined by spells you've cast or maybe even seen
before. And the numbers next to them seem to be some sort of difficulty score
associated with how powerful the ritual effect is, you have to offset this
value by the conditions which subtract from the difficulty score. It looks like
the value has to be 0 in order for the ritual to go through. Adding several
conditions quickly ramps up the complexity score...hmm, it looks like your
Wisdom stat is the main limiting factor, along with, of course, what effects
you know.

ok, the numbers next to Effects are not Complexity, they are Difficulty.

We need to reduce Difficulty to 0 by use of Conditions.

We cannot use so many Conditions that the ritual has too high of a Complexity which is affected by our WIS.

Is that right?
>>
>>238298
That's exactly right (I was actually about the quote that same post kek)
>>
>>238304
So would my suggestion (>>238287) work? Assuming other anons wanted it, that is.
>>
>>238304
Cool. Sorry for being so dense. The Complexity number followed immediately by the numbers next to Effect were throwing me.

Cool Cool.

So from what we've seen a Difficulty of 15 can be beaten with an Action Condition of gibberish or [Material](1) Essence, [Material]2 Gold, [Action]Draw Runes, and [Action] toss gold into runes.
>>
>>238304
I realize it might mess with your groove but would it be possible to get some sort of break down on the Difficult ratings of GP, times of day, weather effects, dances (simple moderate, complex), and location (undeground/above ground)

I'm not asking right away but sometime soonish?
>>
>>238325
To do so would be revealing too much at once (and all of it out of character as well). Such things can be found in books within the game world, so in this case I'll tell you the difficulty score of the condtions for the ritual you currently know:

Ritual Creation

Maximum Complexity: 8

1. Choose an effect
You know of the following effects:
- Summon [5]
- Contract [5]
- Bind [5]
- Lesser [5]
- Elemental [5]
- Spirit [5]

2. Choose a condition(s)
- Time
>No Repeats [3]
>Lasts till nearest event (medium) [4]
- Space
- Material
>Essence of creature (common) [2]
>Gold (low) [2]
- Action
>Draw Runes (simple) [4]
>Speak incantations (Difficult) [17]
>>
>>238382
Effects:
> Bind Lesser Elemental
Conditions:
> Speak Incantations

Would this work?
>>
>>238382
Awesome, thanks!
>>
>>238388
Note that the numbers next to the conditions contribute both to the complexity score and the difficulty score, so that this would not work, since you don't have enough wisdom. (If you did though, it would be fine)
>>
>>238497
Oh, shit, okay. Let's go grind, then.
>>

>>

>>238532
>>238635

Enough studying! It's time to grind some exp. You summon a wind elemental. It looks like a cross between a cloud and a balloon. A perfectly round, spherical cloud.
"What's your name elemental?"
"Mah name's Wendy mistah wizard."
"Call me Bob, Wendy."
"I surely will, Mistah Bob."
John is amazed at your abilities and you feel a little proud. This game is growing on you.

The Owlwasp hive is the size of a small mountain. There are owlwasps, which look exactly as they sound, with the head of an owl, beak and all and the body of a wasp, flying in, out and around the hive. Thousands of small holes act as entrances and exits for the wasps. As usual a screen comes up above the creatures:

Level 12 Owlwasp Worker
Level 20 Owlwasp Drone

The Worker Owlwasps are about the size of pigeons and other small birds, but the Drone wasps are the size of owls. The workers have two sets of gossamer wings, the drones have 1 set, but they are larger. The drones also have 3 sets of needle like claws, whereas the workers have 1 set of owl-like talons. All of them have deadly looking stingers.

You observe them for a bit hiding among the trees. They seem to hunt in packs, two drones with three workers. The drones swoop in and attack small rodents and sometimes larger game (you saw them take out a fox) with their needle-like claws and stinger. The workers then carry the prey with their talons back to the hive.

You:
>Have Wendy try to ground the wasps
>Have John try to do something
>Attempt to sneak into hive
>Other
>>
>>238711
We need more firepower to handle two level 20s and three level 12s.

Can't we empower our ritual and summon a stronger elemental? Or a mixed elemental? (Firestorm, Lava, Aether, Etc)

You'd rather not die today trying to take on enemies more than three times your level. You head for Isten Prison, hopefully the enemies there are not as tough.

Isten prison is a dilapidated fort located on a cliff overlooking the sea. There are four towers which connected by sheet walls. A courtyard lies in the center of the fort, empty and barren.

You enter one of the towers and gag at the smell of death and decay.
"Fuck! This place is rank."
"Mistah wizard, you want I keep the smell away?"
"You can do that?"
"Of course!" And Wendy creates a small breeze around you which wards away the smell. You hear moaning and groaning all around you. You turn around and are face to face with a skeleton.

"John use the ether and punch it!"
"I'm trying to gather it! Oh shiit" The Skeleton grabs your shoulder, it feels like ice.
"Hurry John!" The Skeleton lunges forward at your neck biting down hard.
"AHHHHHH!"
"Hold on!" You feel something buzz past your ear, the skeleton's head explodes into powder with huge bang. You clamp your hand on your neck, trying to stop the blood, but its coming out too fast.
"J-john..."
"Oh shit, oh shit shit shit. Hold on man! Hold on." John presses his hand against your neck and closes his eyes. You lose consciousness as a warm feeling comes out from his hand and to your neck. When you awake, you're outside the prison and it is late afternoon. You get up. John is meditating under a tree, but stirs when he hears you.
"You're awake. Thank god! Shit, man that was a close call."
"What happened?"
"*sigh* I don't know. Moving the ether around took a lot longer than I expected. I just froze up I guess." You feel your neck. Good as new.
"What happened to the skeleton?"
"Oh I killed it. Once the head was gone it was just a normal skeleton."
"Did you gain any exp?"
"What? Oh. Right. I forgot to check. Hold on. Yeah I did actually!"
"How much?"
"Well I'm at 80/100 exp now. So I think 60?" Wow for one fucking level three skeleton? Shit. You can't do another summon spell until tomorrow.

"Alright." You get up. "We're going back in."
"What! Why? You almost died." Yes. You did. And that pain was very real and very terrifying. And yet, something in you felt a rush, a thrill.
"You need to level up. You can take these guys. What's your ether at?"
"You don't even have a summon!"
"Don't worry about that. What's your ether at?"
"Its full. I just finished meditating so its full."
"Alright. Let's go. This time keep your ether charged at your fist."
"*sigh* Alright."

You enter the tower again, this time Wendy is not there to help with the odor. The tower is 6 stories high with walkways build into the walls at each level and stairs leading up to the walkways. The center of the tower is hollow so that you can see all the way up to the ceiling. At each floor there are 'prison cells' built into the walls. But they are all open. Since there aren't any windows is also quite dark. It doesn't take long before another skeleton ambushes you, but this time you are ready. It tries to grab you again but you roll to the side. John leaps into action and punches it in the torso completely shattering it and sending its body flying. John has leveled up.

You spend a few more hours grinding the skeletons, exiting the prison when John is low on ether, letting him meditate then entering back into the fray.

By the end of it John has leveled 2 more times bringing him to level 4, at which point the exp slows to a crawl. He tells you that he needs to choose 2 perks and distribute 15 stat points.

>>
>>239132
Why wisdom? The reason I suggest intelligence is because it seems to hasten the pace at which you absorb information-- which I think is why we completed more of our book than he did his, and shit like that. It also probably helps you to increase skills and shit.
>>
>>239132
>>239146
"Tell me what the perks are"
"Uh...yeah hold on, there's six:
- Vampiric - You may replenish your ether by transferring it from others
- Focus - Meditation gives a temporary boost to your wisdom
- Medic - You may use your ether to heal minor wounds at no cost
- Smiter - Your ether does not diminish when fighting the undead
- Physic - Once per day may use your ether to heal major wounds at no cost
(requires Medic)
- Specialist - Choose a particlar path for using ether (e.g Reinforcement,
reconstruction etc.) you lose ether at half the rate when using it in your
chosen specialization
>>

Medic and Smiter for sure.

You head back to Isten Prison. Summoning Wendy again, you decide to concentrate as you recite the spell trying to use your empowered perk. The words feel more powerful than usual! This time instead of the large cloud-balloon. The elemental takes the form of a beautiful cloud-woman from the torso up (the rest is just cloud).

You roll through the bottom floor and the skeletons without trouble. John is much faster at controlling his ether as well and it doesn't fade while he's fighting the undead. You head for the stairs onto the second level of the tower. The smell on the second floor is even worse than on the first floor. You soon understand the reason for the stench: Ghouls. They emerge from the cells and surround you:

Level 8 Ghoul

hangs above their head. John rushes ahead and punches one in the face, deforming its skull. It collapses to the ground. You cover the rear with Wendy who blows back any ghoul that gets near. It doesn't kill them, but it at least keeps them at bay while John can work his magic.

Since John doesn't lose any ether, you can keep fighting them without rest. They keep coming out of the cells (and there are many of them) so the exp keeps flowing. Things are going well and you both level up to level 8, unlocking a new perk. Sadly the ghouls simply disappear into smoke once they die leaving nothing behind. The skeletons don't have any loot either. It's late afternoon when you make to the next staircase leading upward.

You:
>Keep going up
>Call it a day for grinding, distribute your stats and perks and head back to town
>Other

Level up! 6->8

>Stats (10 points remaining)
Constitution: 4
Dexterity: 4
Intelligence: 15
Wisdom: 8
Charisma: 5

Choose a perk:
Mind Palace - You memorize up to 3 incantations, allowing you to speak them from memory
Copycat - Anytime you observe a ritual being performed you may attempt to learn it
Fetishism - Choose an object, as long you wield that object, rituals take half as long to perform (does not work for incantations)
>>
>>239354
Idc about stats but TAKE THE SHARINGAN
>>
>>239354
Copycat is great, and so is Mind Palace, so I'm gonna say that we should wait until Lv.10 so e can take both. :^)

Also, as an anon was saying earlier, about the 3/2 rotation: it's a good plan but holy shit do we need wisdom. So,

>6pts Wis
>2pts Con
>2pts Dex
>>
>>239357
Srsly tho we're headed to a city full of mages/wizards to watch a bunch of the most powerful ones kick ass, and probably a bunch of our-level ones get buttfucked early on. If we don't take the copy spell we're idiots.
>>
>>239368
>>239354
Also,
>Keep going up.
John doesn't lose Ether and neither of us have taken damage yet.
>>
>>239354
Also:

>Ask John what perks he can take and advise him
>Let John choose himself and don't ask
>>
>>239354
Let's take copycat and keep going up.

>>239387
Also ask John about his perks.
>>
>>239354

>Keep going up
put 5 in int and 5 into wis as we shoudlnt be fisht finght.
Choose a perk
Copycat
how dose fetishism work is it like staffs but any staff will do or is it just like a cerntin one? if its jusr all staff give the buff then do fetishism if not then mind palace.

>Ask John what perks he can take and advise him
ask him what type of clgic he wants to be, also suggest he puts points into Constitution and charisma
>>
>>239387
If he wants advice, we should give it to him. Otherwise, we should just let him choose.
>>
>>239403
>we shoudlnt be fisht finght
why do you think this
>>
I'm done for tonight. Sorry about the infrequent updates today, I was a bit busy and was updating between work.
>>
>>239422
i might to say that we shouldnt be in a cqc fight any ways so no point in putting up con when we should be gettign better at summoning.
and we got like no ammor, shit knife and we almost died whe we got hit once, set back and let the other guy take a hit and the sprits do the work
>>
>>239470
> we're not good at it now so we shouldn't raise our stats to become good at it

you realize nothing about any class is unique except for mage and cleric right
>>
>>239449
Thanks for making the time for us. I'm really loving this quest
>>
>>239470
I really love this quest!

I just really want to be a spellsword. :^)
>>
>>239473
>>239482
its a fun one yer
i have no issues with us becomeing a spellword which would be cool. but we dont have anything good atm that would help us and dont wana put stats into something that we wont be able to use atm and to become a spellsword we going to need better speels and shit so need higher int and wis more then we need to be able to hit something at this point int/wis is more impoernet at this point to con and dex for us. couse wehn we get to the mage city gona try to learn soem sick rituls. like fouces on one area then the other not trying to do it ll at once
>>
I'm liking the spells and rituals we are learning, we are becoming a pretty sweet Spirit Mage(Obviously we are a Wizard but you know)
>>
>>239354
Perk: Copycat

Stats: let's get to a nice plateau before doing the 3/2. If we do 2 in WIS and 4 in both CON/DEX we have 10 WIS and 8 in both CON and DEX. I think we would be well served by this as we won't be so squishy and we will be at a nice round 10 on WIS to work from.
>>
>>239354
>Keep going up, but cautiously with the intent to run away if things get too difficult

I agree with this >>239368 anon but I think we should get Copycat right away. Don't know when we'll witness a random act of magic, plus we'll need a really high Wis if we're going to want to copy spells.

>>239449
Hey OP thanks for running! You have a really fun quest.
>>
>>239704
We'll definitely need Copycat before we get to the competition. But until then, no need to rush, I think. But I see your point.
>>
>>239764
But we should leave soon. Lelogas said the earlier the better. No need to get ourselves broke.
>>
>>239696
This I suppose
>>

this
>>
>>239696
>>239822
>>239846
You take Copycat, it's going to come in handy during the World Cup. As for your stats you bolster up Constitution, and Dexterity and put a few points in Wisdom. You feel quicker and more limber, you actually have visible muscles now. Is this what it feels like to be swole? Its not bad.

>>239400
>>239403

As for John, you ask him what perks he's eligible for and he tells you:

# Level 8
Templar - You may use ether to deflect aether attacks
Blesser - You may transfer ether into objects for 30 days (instead of 24 hours)
Dominion - You may transfer your ether into other creatures in order to control them for a time equal to 5+wis minutes (on touch)

He wants to get Blesser since he figures it would be an easy to make some money. You suggest he put his stat points into Constitution and Charisma. He splits it evenly between the two. He looks incredibly fit now and, you must admit, quite handsome.
"How's the ether?"
"Character sheet says I have 8/18 now"
"So Constitution really is a the main stat. Good to know."
"Hey why'd I put points into Charisma then?"
"Clerics are usually the diplomats."
"Oh...ok."

>>239372
>>239400
You keep going up. You might as well get a few more levels before leaving. As soon as you enter the next floor, you know something is wrong. For one, the smell completely disappears. Second, a ten foot tall mass of fused flesh wielding a spear and shield and enveloped in rusted armor stands in front of you. His helmet completely covers his face, but for two glowing eyes, red and unblinking. The screen above him reads:

Level 35 Death Knight

Fuck. The stairs are behind you and there doesn't seem any other creatures on this level. This looks like a boss fight. You also spot the holy of holies, a treasure chest, sitting behind him in one of the cells, pretty much confirming your theory.

You:
>Prepare to fight
>Get the fuck out
>Other
>>
>>239935
>Level 35 Death Knight
>Level -35-

Nope.

GTFO while we still can. We got 1-shot by a L4 skeleton when we were L6. Now it's L35 v L8.

Nope.
>>
Prepare to run while smacking at it with Wind-Spirit. If that does anything significant, stick around. If not, FLEEEEE
>>
>>239956
>>239964
Yeah, you don't have a death wish today. You run back down the stairs with Wendy covering the rear and flee the prison. The death knight is too big to even fit through the hole of the staircase so you're safe. That treasure chest was tempting but discretion is the better part of staying the fuck alive.

The sun is setting now as you head back to the town. You pay for another night's accommodation and have dinner (John manages to sweet-talk Doris into giving you a 3 silver discount since you've been here for a while -- the benefits of charisma.)

In the morning you have breakfast.
"So should I take Blesser?"
"What?" You were thinking about the fact that the lower levels of the Prison tower are cleared -- that means no chance for any more exp there.
"Blesser, you know the perk? Should I take it? I figure I can enchant weapons or armor and stuff and then we can sell it at a profit."

>"Sure, sounds good."
>"No [perk] is a better choice because..."
>"Do as you like."
>>
>>239992
WAIT HOLD UP

WHAT IF WE SUMMONED AN EMPOWERED FIRE ELEMENTAL AND JUST BANGED AWAY AT HIS HEALTH OUT OF HIS REACH

Also, sure, tell him to take Blesser. Meanwhile, we should look for a smithy and see about getting some better gear, for ourselves and John.
>>
>>239992
Hmm...is there a level cap on Dominion? Like could he just poke the knight and get him to an hero? If not, so fucking OP
>>239999
Also seconding this guy's idea for taking on the knight. Sweet fuckint quads too
>>
>>240004
If John takes the perk you might be able to find out more. Otherwise you don't know.
>>
>>239992
Sure sounds good.

Nah. Just leave. Book passage and, if we have time, rent the Paths book and Alchemy book for the night. Crafting means money money money.
>>
>>239992
>"Sure, sounds good."

We can pick up some loot along the way, enchant it, and sell to npcs thanks to John's charisma. We're finally going legit, boys!

Thirding. RPGs are all about finding ways to get passed things you're not supposed to get past.

"I have an idea for taking on the death knight."
"Are you sure, he's like 4 times our level."
"Yes, that's true, but if you noticed he couldn't go through the stairs, he was too big."
"Ok...and?"
"I can summon a fire elemental to blast him from a distance."
"Will that work?"
"It's worth a shot. I wanna get that treasure."
"Well you don't really need me for that do you? I wanna try out this perk and see if we can't make some money. Can I borrow some gold? I'll give you 50% of whatever I make"

>"No, you're coming with me, leveling is more important."
>"Alright here's [number] gold. I'll go alone."
>"Actually I'll come with you, I wanna test the ritual I learned and to prepare passage to Dorter Magic City."

>>
>>240108

>>
>>240108
>>"No, you're coming with me, leveling is more important."
Besides, I might need you to heal me.
>>
>>240108
eh fine, today we can do other stuff. go get Wizards are OP from magic mart, if someone thought it was worth it to write a book about it, it is probably useful to know
>>
>>240108
>"No, you're coming with me, leveling is more important."
We might need him to make sure nothing kills us from behind. Besides, let's tell John we're 'mirin' but, like, totally not in a gay way.
>>
>>240113
>>240114
"No, you're coming with me, leveling is more important. Besides, what if I get injured? Just trust me, there'll be plenty of time to make money later."
"*sigh* Alright, you're the rpg expert, I'll follow your lead."
"Thanks, don't worry this'll work."

...

As you expected, there are no more monsters on the first two floors. The smell still lingers but the difference is that of a pig and a pigsty. You summon Edna this time, using your empowered perk again. Instead of a simple fireball its a woman composed of flames. Her is golden and shimmering and her body lithe and curvy. She's...hot.
"Edna?"
"Hey baby."
"Ahem! Let's get going." As before the third floor has no stench at all and the tower of armored muscle stands guard. As soon as it spots you it charges. You retreat back into the staircase, Edna floats beside you. The death knight peaks its head through the narrow opening of the stairs but cannot squeeze through with its armor. You've got him.
"Edna, blast him"
"Sure thing, baby." Gouts of flame erupt from Edna's hands squeezing through cracks in the death knights armor and singeing its flesh. But nothing happens...at first. Edna keeps up the heat and slowly, the flesh begins to melt away. It actually takes 3 hours of constant heat (Edna's flames aren't particularly hot) to reduce the death knight to a puddle of flesh, like a melted wax candle made of blood. You and John just sit there and watch. At the end of it, both of you gain enough experience to level up 8 times. Wizards. Every fucking time.

Both of you unlock a new set of perks, as well as 40 more stat points to work with. Stepping over the goop you also raid the treasure chest.
You find the following items:

2 stoppered large beakers (300 ml) of red liquid
1 stoppered large beaker (300 ml) of yellow liquid
2 rolled up scrolls
A purse with 10 gp and 30 sp
A pouch with red dust
A broken handmirror
A locked Journal

Breaking the game is fun
>>
>>240149
...holy shit.
>>
How about 15 INT, 15 WIS and 10 CON? Wizards don't need other stats
>>
>>240165
I support this! also holy shit I think we might have broken the game with shit like that.
>>
>>240165
We could use some CHA.

15 INT
15 WIS
Get to 10 CON
rest in CHA
>>
>>240165
Let's put a few points in charisma. At least 3. Also, what perks OP?
>>
>>240149
Forgot the perks kek

Level up! 8 -> 16

>Stats (40 points remaining)
Con: 8
Dex: 8
Int: 15
Wis: 10
Cha: 5

Choose a perk:

Efficient - During ritual creation you may combine two ritual effects you know into one ritual at the difficulty cost of the higher effect
Contractor - Immediately choose a spirit. You may borrow that spirits powers without any rituals for a short period each day
Wizard Poet - You may shorten an incantation by making up a short 6 line rhyming poem to stand in its place

>>
>>240173
>Efficient - During ritual creation you may combine two ritual effects you know into one ritual at the difficulty cost of the higher effect
As for stats
>>240165
That's my vote.

>>240156
>>240164

This is a reward (and incentive) for coming up with a creative solution. Make no mistake you'd have been curb-stomped if you had tried to fight it face to face
>>
>>240173
15 into both Int and Wis
10 Con

we stronk now
>>
>>240180
Does Poet reduce the same amount of Difficulty but make it less Complex?
if so that's my vote.
>>
>>240203
Exactly right.
>>
>>240198
If we want to be a spellsword, won't we need the minimum Dex? Let's at least raise Dex by 4.
>>
>>240217
Maybe get CON/DEX to 10 and split the rest to INT/WIS tie breaker to INT?
>>
>>240217
Actually yeah you make a good point

15 int and wis
6 con
4 dex
>>
We should also tell John to split his stats between Con, Wis, and Cha. And we should ask him what perks he got.
>>
>>240241
Throwing this out there: bind a wind elemental to a sword and I think we could go for super fast strikes if we wanted. I see some kickass moves with a Falchion, or daggers, or rapier. Earth elemental Warhammer would break some shit. Go more for a brawler, water elemental shoes, we could slide around one second and stand on completely dry ground the next.

Granted these are making some huge assumptions on how binding elementals work
>>
>>240273
Let's get him to do some Dex this level since iirc he's been putting points into that but not dex.

We should also give him the purse so he doesn't need to rely on us to buy everything for him.
>>
>>240280
I'd rather go for flaming sword.
>>
>>240280
First we would need to create the 'Bind Lesser Elemental' ritual, which we can actually do now that our Wis is higher.
>>
>>240290
Flaming sword is pretty generic, flaming cloak is pretty useful though. Fire immunity and the ability to drape enemies in fire and likewise distract others.
>>
>>240180
Hey OP don't forget to put our perks in the character sheet.
>>
Hmm stat distributions are little all over the place same thing with perks.

So far we have:

>>240165
>>240198
>15 INT, 15 WIS and 10 CON

>>240170
>15 INT

>Get to 10 CON
>rest in CHA

>>240240
>CON/DEX to 10 and split the rest to INT/WIS

>>240241
>15 int and wis
>6 con
>4 dex

As for perks

Efficient and Wizard Poet are tied
>>
>>240206
OP are you kill
>>
>>240493
I vote for 4th stat increase and poet
>>
>>240493
>CON/DEX to 10 and split the rest to INT/WIS

Wizard Poet
>>
>>240493
Ignore my vote for 6 Con/4Dex, (>>240241) I'm just gonna stick to my original 15/15/10 vote (>>240198

As for perks... Wizard Poet would be our best bet, I think. Easier to remember than made up sounds.

Sorry if my IDs are all over the place, I'm mobile postan.

John tells of the following perks:

Banisher (requires smiter) - Once per day you may banish an undead creature whose level is at or below twice your wisdom, to the spirit world
Healer (requires Physic) - Once per day you may heal mortal wounds at no cost
Thrall (requires dominion) - You may empower a creature you have controlled through dominion through ether. For every 2 points of ether you spend, your thrall gains +10 to a stat of your choice.
>>
>>240551

You distribute your points to Intelligence, Wisdom, Constitution and Dexterity. You also take the Wizard Poet perk. Your character sheet now looks like this:

>Stats
Con: 10
Dex: 10
Int: 31
Wis: 26
Cha: 5

The sensation is like fainting. Or falling from a high place. The entire world comes alive with sights and smells, you begin to process everything near instantly. It's like you were asleep your whole life and suddenly you're awake. You wonder if this how geniuses feel.

You advise John to get Healer and he does so. He asks you if he should split his points evenly between Con, Wis, Dex and Cha or some other distribution.
>>
>>240646
Whoops, it should be:

>Stats
Con: 10
Dex: 10

Wis: 28*
Cha: 5
>>
>>240646
Ratio should be 3 points on Wis and Con for 1 of Dex and Cha.

>>
Let's try clearing the dungeons around here and reading a few more books before we depart to the magic town.
>>
>>240810
There's an argument that the magic city would have better books/prices due to competition.

Counter argument is that we have someone who completely shuts down undead and an undead trove. No loot outside of chests though. Next level might be too high for us though.

We should in decent range for owl wasps though
>>
>>240646
I say we VERY CAUTIOUSLY move up to the next level of the tower. Send Edna forward first to check things out, see if she triggers enemy attacks. If not, we go in again VERY CAUTIOUSLY and ready to bolt. John stays on the stairwell ready to heal the fuck out of us should we get ganked.
If it gets too hardcore/if we somehow still succeed, back to the town to borrow Wizard is OP and cram it down. Gotta get that gamebreak down, breh.
>>
>>240843
If the next level is too hard we can try the other towers.

"Go with 15 points in Wisdom and Constitution and 5 in Dexterity and Charisma"
"Alright...woah." Woah is right, John now has the build of an Olympic athlete. His face is also more symmetrical.
"Alright good. Let's head up."
"Are you serious? Wouldn't there be more serious shit upstairs?"
"Naturally, but I'm pretty sure that guy was a boss creature. Most likely the creatures ahead aren't at the same level."
"Alright. If you say so."
"Besides you have the Healer perk, you can bring me back in case anything happens. Now let's go." There are no other creatures on the third floor so its easy going. Unfortunately the staircase leading to the 4th floor has been completely totaled; its just rubble. You have no idea what could've done this, but it must've been powerful.
"Edna, could you float up there and tell us what you see?"
"Sure thing honey." She passes through the hole of the entrance, there is some consternation and a flash of light. Edna doesn't return. A skeleton wearing robes of faded blue, peeks through the hole. He's wielding a wooden staff and has glowing eyes like the death knight. A screen above him reads:

Level 25 Lich

Shit. The Lich screams something in an alien tongue and waves his staff, a fireball begins to grow on top of it.
"Shit! Run!" John springs forward and is already well ahead of you. You start running as fast you as can. The Lich screams, your turn back and see the fireball zooming towards you. The staircase leading down is a few feet in front, John has already disappeared below.

You leap with all your might into the staircase, taking a huge tumble down and breaking several bones in the processes. The fireball explodes just above your feet, completely burning your carapace boots and singeing the soles of your feet. John turns back and carries you on his shoulders outside. He touches your broken bones to mend them using up some of his ether. He then strengthens his body with the ether to carry your unconscious body back to town.

At least this is what he tells you happened when you awake several hours later at the inn.

It is the next morning and you:

You decide to take the day off and just walk around town with John. It feels suspiciously familiar to date but you've never been on one so you wouldn't really know. John attracts some attention in the town, young maidens blush as he walks by. You talk a little about your lives in the real world -- well mostly John, you just listen.

John is a senior in high school, recently accepted to Yale. His family is wealthy, real estate moguls or something, John has been learning the family business from a young age, but he only does so to fit in with the family. His real passion is music; he's received violin lessons from a young age and he's even performed in front of large audiences, but he likes pop music more than classical.

To your great astonishment, he tells you the only reason he even tried this game (other than the fact that it looked interesting) was that he was depressed after his girlfriend broke up with him. What follows is a typical teenage rant, whose contents you have no experience with, being a kissless, handholdless virgin in your short 16 years of life. There was that time you twisted Molly Sander's arm in kindergarten, but you're pretty sure that doesn't count.

Well at least John isn't a faggot. Either that or he's still in the closet about it.

You make your way to the docks to finally book passage to Dorter Magic City. The ticket seller tells you that tickets are currently 30 silver a passenger with 3 stop-overs along the way and 1 gold per passenger for an express 'swim' (whatever that means). You can also upgrade to first class for an additional 2 gp per passenger.

You:
>Buy the express ticket
>Buy the normal ticket

(Btw did you guys give the purse you found to John, or split the money evenly? What about the other items?)
>>
>>241167
Normal ticket

And I say we gave him the purse. Keep the scroll, the red dust, and 1 of the red potions
>>
>>241167
>Buy the express ticket
>split the money evenly
>we keep the journal, 1 beaker with red liquid and both scrolls.
What could possibly go wrong?
>>
>>241181
seconding
then we say in our collective screaming mind of a dozen anons: "nice purse, faggot"
>>
>>241167
>Buy the normal ticket
Split the gold evenly
We take
>Locked journal
>Broken handmirror
>2 rolled up scrolls
He takes the rest
>>
>>241167
>Buy the express ticket

I say give John the money since we have a good bit and he doesnt. In exchange we got the materials. Looks like alchemy stuff which I am in favor of researching and utilizing.
>>
My bet is that the red liquid is HP potion.
>>
>>241167
>Buy the express ticket.
And also give John the purse. Jokingly tell him it goes great with his outfit.
>>
>>241167
Give the purse to John. Also try to open the journal, seems promising.

You buy 2 regular cabin seats on tomorrows 5'o clock 'Wurm' (at least, that's what it says on the ticket, which is a metal token with the details of the trip engraved on each side) You pay 30 silver. John pays for his own ticket with the purse you got at the prison.

Well you have the rest of the day to do whatever you like. John says he's going to try offering his services as an enchanter to a local blacksmith to make some more money.

As for you, you:

You bid John goodbye and agree to meet back at the inn for dinner. You head for the MagicMart. As before, RealOG has disappeared and a woman has taken his place. You say hello and make your way to the shelves. With your new intelligence you have access to many more books including a few spellbooks, still the vast majority of the books are still out of your reach:

You can't really "read" a spellbook in the traditional sense. Its just nonsense words stringed together. Instead you have to buy the book or copy the spells in the book to your own spellbook. However you must do this perfectly, or else the spell won't work.

You bring Wizard is OP and Basic Cantos to the counter. The woman informs you that it will cost you 1 gp to rent; the first book costs 30gp to buy, the second 75 gp. (spellbooks in general are quite expensive, since you are usually forced to buy them)

Taking a break for now, will be back later tonight. I'm probably also going to take an extended break once you get to Dorter Magic City to flesh out the world and story a little more
>>
>>241537
How much gp do we have now?
>>
>>241544
However much it is, hopefully we can rake in some cash from John's enchantments.
>>
>>241544
>>241593
We should have 37g 44s
since we have 37g 74s in Google doc and only spent the 30s for the ride this thead from what I can see.

I say rent wizards or OP to see if it is worth it to buy also get price on alchemy/golem/cooking books.
>>
>>241537
Let's just rent Wizard is OP for now. No use spending on two books if we'll only be able to read through one. Also, ask how much the price of Sword and Sorcery is since we might eventually become a spellsword.
>>
>>241537
I thought it was a 1-book-1-nigga limit tho

either way I'm still gonna cast my ballot for Sword and Sorcery
>>
>>241537
Grab wizards or OP and see if there's any books on golems
>>
>>242159
Rent Wizards are OP or buy?

Personally, like I said
>>241768
I think we should just rent to see if it's worth it. the thing is 30gp, anything else of real substance beyond beginner books is like 60+. It's either worth only a rent or might have "good early game, disastrous late game" advice.
>>
>>241768
I need to amend this, we also spent 6s on rooms in this thread. Was on mobile before.

We should have 37g 38s from what I'm seeing
>>
>>242159
>>242169
We could probably finishing reading it in a day with our current INT, so we should just rent it.
>>
>>242157
I think the limit's just for renting
>>
>>242205
Spending the vast majority of our money on a book is a really bad decision.
>>
>>242218
I agree but since we are about to go on a three day trip that will likely be a timeskip with small random encounters, having something to "study" over that time will likely give better benefits than a one day rental.

For that reason I am arguing that we get an "instructional" book like the one on alchemy/golemancy/cooking rather than an advisory book like Wizards are OP. It would give OP more to work with.

Plus we can always sell the book at the next town for (hopefully at worst) 10-15gp. We would only really be paying 15-20gp for it.
>>
>>242230
Oh shit, you're right. An alchemy book would be cool as heck.

We should also tell John where he can get a bigger bag.
>>
>>242230
That's still spending around half our funds on one book. Maybe if we could read it before we bought it, but otherwise I'm inherently against an obviously unwise decision, even with the possibility of reselling it in the future.
>>
>>242230
let's do this then instead
>>
>>242230
Also, keep in mind that we're heading to the capitol of magic in the setting. I would honestly not be surprised if we could ony scrape by, at best, five gold for it.
>>
rent the book,Wizard is OP
since we got copycat just watch the wizards i nthe city do things and learn from watching
>>
considering how squishy we are, we should look into better armor. We collected the worker gatorant carapaces to make into a breastplate, but left town before we could get it crafted. Our only armor was also destroyed by the lich's fireball. We need to get at least some light armor, and a sword/bow if we want to survive

Though a spear sounds better than a sword, as we'd be able to keep things at a distance

You pay 1 gold to rent Wizard Is OP for day. You flip through the book...it's an autobiography of the player WizofOz. However there are lots of useful tidbits of information regarding the wizard class scattered throughout the book. It's a relatively short book and not poorly written. You could probably finish it by tomorrow if you really wanted to, though that would mean you have to spend the rest of the day reading.

You leave the shop and head home. You almost died yesterday, you might as well relax with a good book.

The autobiography rambles on at times and wanders, but there are also very tips and advice which you wouldn't have known without extended experimentation. For instance, WizofOz claims that using gp for rituals is essentially game breaking since gp is 'common' enough to obtain, but in the context of the ritual, high to medium amounts of gp can drastically lower ritual difficulty.

Furthermore he goes on to say that he regrets not delaying taking the first perk, until he learned a summon ritual for one of the spirit kings, at which point he could have used the Enchanter perk to create a 'Unique' -- an item which can actually manipulate the game itself. It's the only way to actually create a Unique, since the normal rituals usually take decades or incredibly rare reagents to create.

He also describes simple ways that wizards can make gp early on, such as borrwing an expensive book (>1000gp works best, though you apparently need something of 10% value as collateral) then binding spirits to corpses and then having those zombies write a copy/copies of the book to re-sell at a later time. Because of the way the game mechanics work, zombies can follow simple commands with computer like precision, meaning there is a low to no chance of error. Other ideas include learning alchemy and then using the Contractor perk to borrow the skills of a master alchemist to make master level potions from novice tier materials (the initial investment is quite high however as master-level spirits are difficult to find/purchase, not mention the alchemic apparatuses that are necessary), this can be done with any high value trade skill such as smithing, jewelry etc. The Contractor perk is essential since the ritual is otherwise difficult to perform regularly.

He also mentions a rather interesting thing, which he calls the 'Chain Ritual'. In essence, one ritual is used to produce rare materials which can then be used to do a second, more difficult ritual. Since enchanted materials are automatically considered to be 'rarer' by the game, a chain of rituals can be set up to make rarer and rarer items which can then be used in very powerful rituals that would otherwise require impossible-to-get items.

WizofOz also gives some advice on perk and stat distribution, stating that getting past level 70 is essentially impossible because of the lack of troves with creatures above that level (though much of the world still remains unexplored, he admits), so that careful selection of perks and stats is essential. He recommends putting most points into Wisdom and Intelligence, with more in Wisdom, since it is the limitation in creating new rituals. He also states that the ritual creation system, combined with the unique wizard perks is an advantage which should not be ignored. He recommends getting 'Shaman' at level 64 but doesn't explain what it is(1/2)
>>
>>243361
tfw cucks decided to be hasty with perks and chose Empowered over Enchanter

:,)

I'm sure there are many other ways or workarouds.

Finally he leaves the reader (who he assumes is a wizard) with the advice that the ritual system rewards creativity and that a wizard not limited to the realms of magic like the other classes. He urges all wizards to master at least one trade skill and obtain high proficiency in some weapon. WizofOz also says that he plans to leave the game soon having "...discovered something which even the original three have not".

It's already nightfall when you finish it. John returns to the inn and tells you he doubled his money working with the local blacksmith. His customers were mostly women wanting to get their pots and pans enchanted. Though you surmise they came because of another reason...

In the morning you head to the port to board what you assumed as a ship, but is actually an underwater cabin on the belly of a giant worm, called 'Wurms' by the locals. They look like a mix between an eel and an earth worm, with a smooth head and a fin, but a segmented body. The captain explains to you that because of unpredictable and violent storms (whose cause no one knows) over the Theastan Sea, normal sea travel is impossible. The Wurms are controlled and trained by Mages and travel deep beneath the ocean to avoid the storms entirely.

Well you rode a giant grasshopper here, how bad can a giant worm be? The inside of the cabin is well furnished. Its like one those fancy trains with individual rooms for groups of passengers. Each room has a bunk bed and a table. The captain informs everyone that the trip will take 6 days if there is no delay (i.e if the currents hold their current pattern) to Dorter Magic City. There will be 3 stop-overs, all in Theasta, before then and passengers are urged to stay inside for the entire duration of their trip.

You have 6 days to kill, what will you do?
>>
>>243402
fuck with the ritual system a lot
>>
>>243407
Seconding. Also, summon water elemental and figure out what they can do. Seems it would be useful.
>>
>>243407
This
Also John got XP earlier for just healing us right? We should try training and seeing if we can get levels or stat points.
>>
>>243407
You check the ritual creation menu. Nothing much has changed except that your max complexity is 28 instead of 14 and the Speak Incantations (Difficult) has a second number (which after some experimentation, you confirm is the complexity) different from the difficulty. You guess this is because of your wizard poet perk:

Ritual Creation

Maximum Complexity: 32

1. Choose an effect
You know of the following effects:
- Summon [5]
- Contract [5]
- Bind [5]
- Lesser [5]
- Elemental [5]
- Spirit [5]

2. Choose a condition(s)
- Time
>No Repeats [3]
>Lasts till nearest event (medium) [4]
- Space
- Material
>Essence of creature (common) [2]
>Gold (low) [2]
- Action
>Draw Runes (simple) [4]
>Speak Incantations (Difficult) [17] (9)
>>
>>243402
Create new ritual Bind Lesser Elemental with component: 6 line poem from wizard poet. Use with Water elemental and bind to sandals. See what happens, see if we can make what are essentially ice skates/water slick sliders for easy of movement.
>>
>>243441
This works I guess.
>>
>>243437
A Bind Spirit spell would come in handy, one that requires essence and a poem. We could kill another boss and bind them to a sword/shield/ect. It would be an easy way to make money, just sell off our improved weapons to buy more.

Also, as WizofOz recommended, we should get some kind of melee or ranged option. A bow would probably work well with our elemental meatshields, so we could stay in the back and plink while we wait

Collecting a party of wizards that just started would be great. Each wizard can summon an elemental, then sit in the back with a bow. We'd be able to tackle much stronger monsters than with a mixed party
>>
>>243441
>>243445
You research the ritual 'Bind Lesser Elemental' whose condition is:
- Speak Incantations (as a 6 six line poem)

This is will take 8 days (4 with your Researcher Perk). Will you commit to the research?
>>
>>243460
Yes.
>>
>>243460
Yes.

How does Neurotic play again? GDOCS is acting up for me
>>
>>243460
yeah, lets get another spell. Can't hurt, especially if we can sell the stuff we bind the elemental to.

Oh, what if we bind our elemental of the day to a sword every day before we go to sleep. We'd be able to adventure and still make trade goods
>>
>>243487
Binds only last a day from what I remember.
>>
>>243402
What's John doing during this time?
>>
>>243487
We would naturally bind a wind elemental to a sword.

Wind > Sword
Fire > Bow
Earth > Maul
Water > ?
Ice > 1H/2H/Throwing
Aether > All

We could try summoning a pure Aether elemental and binding it to a staff or sword, using it for basic wizardry.
>>
>>243504
I'd think wind would be better for a bow, and water for a sword

But yeah, I'd think a staff+Aether elemental, if they exist, would be incredibly useful
>>
>>243504
If aether is a summonable thing, is ether?
>>
>>243510
Yeah, especially if wind can create a vacuum for the arrow to pass through. No wind resistance is killer. A ping pong ball can bust a coke can coming out of a vacuum
>>
>>243514
>>243510
Except we aren't archers in any sense, Wizards aren't really Bow experts.

A wind-sword is very powerful and makes up for a lack of dexterity and speed, self-aiming auto-super speed arrows just seem unfair.
>>
>>243511
I'd assume so, given every 'element' has a summon, and aether is totally an element. THough we won't know 100% until we try.

Also, everyone seems deadset on spellblade, but do we 100% need a sword? We could always go with a decent quarterstaff that could double as both a melee weapon and a wizard staff, or go staff+sword

>>243531
>Seems unfair
>Using magic
Nigga please. We're a WIZARD. Why would we give a shit what's fair or not? We have magic.

Also, we shouldn't really get into melee anyways given our shitty health score. We died in one hit to a SKELETON. We should get a weapon that could be used at range, or at least has reach, either a bow, crossbow, or even a staff enchanted with fire/aether so it can fire shit at people. Maybe a spear, or a halberd, since they'd have enough reach to prevent us getting stabbed immediately.
>>
>>243531
We need to realize what several game sources have repeated: class doesn't mean shit outside of some added bits for cleric and mage and the perk system. Anyone could do rituals, we just get perks related to rituals. We do up dex and get some training and we can pull a bow as well as anyone that isn't a ranger with bow perks. Same with a sword, we can be as good as anyone not a warrior focused on sword perks. Discounting ritual BS we can think of
>>
>>243531
we also aren't sword, spear, mace, knife, throwing anus, halberd, staff experts

we literally have never fought in melee, and only used the knife we bought to butcher carcasses. Bows are a good fit for us, as we are weak and have low HP. It would be better to be in the back where we can fire the bow or cast a spell than on the front having to dodge attacks when we're trying to concentrate

I think a short sword makes the most sense, we won't be charging into danger but we do need something incase we have to fight up close. The goal is that they die before they reach us.
>>
>>243535
>>243540
I see your point, it just doesn't 'feel' right to use a bow. It feels completely out of character and auto-aim arrows feel like they'd be nerfed by simple game mechanics due to the ease in obtaining them.

I like the Staff idea though, and I believe if we can have a staff crafted with some sort of gem or stone attached to the end as a focal point of elemental energy we could very well achieve this idea.

We would of course have to obtain this special component ourselves... Perhaps the queen wasps stinger?
>>
>>243548
Which is an argument for a bow as well since our summons operate separately from us. Both would work mostly off of DEX if we spec a stabby-dodgey style. Maybe a little CON to hit harder or pull a higher draw but that's negligible that's recommended anyway for carry capacity and health
>>
>>243574
We can achieve the same result with less effort with a nice staff. We wouldn't require the extra training and we would still be protected from a distance.
>>
>>243574
I guess. I think we should focus on the sword for now though, we can't learn everything at once.
>>
>>243570
While auto aim would be neat, don't get bogged down on narrow interpretations. A sufficiently boosted and non-Lesser Air elemental could reduce or remove wind resistance on the arrow. Imagine the force of a cannonball focused on an arrow head. It would fuck sit up hardcore
>>
>>243580
>We wouldn't require the extra training
Based on what
>still be protected from a distance
Based on what
>>
>>243588
Based on pointing a stick at something and willing it to fire requires much less DEX than physically aiming and drawing a bow, judging wind resistance and distance and a host of other factors.

An elemental staff is just the better fit for the character, cmon senpai.
>>
I somewhat feel that given the realism thus far in the game, we couldn't just pick up a sword and be good at it immediately, as much as a warrior could pick up a ritual book and be great at summoning.

Honestly, I think we'd be better served learning staff-based combat so we could pop an elemental in it to use it to attack from range, and learning how to use a quarterstaff so we're not defenseless in melee.

Though we should keep a knife or shortsword for emergencies, it shouldn't by any means be our focus
>>
>>243600
A more succinct explanation of my beliefs
>>
note that we also know a master archer, who could easily give us tips about where to get the best bow, tactics, and what to focus on.

With out high INT and WIS, we'll likely be able to find weak spots and target them with a bow. We'd be able to do the same with a sword/spear, but would be exposing our fragile PC to a lot more danger. With an Air elemental or enchantment, we could fly and find a spot the monsters can't reach and just snipe them for hours grinding with no risk to ourself
>>
>>243580
>staff
>protection at a distance
a distance of double arms length. Yep.
>>
>>243600
Another benefit to staff/quarterstaff focus is that we could use it at range off of our WIS/INT stat given it would be enchanted, and would only require probably DEX by virtue of being a polearm. That's typically how those things work in an rpg, no?
>>
>>243609
You're forgetting we could enchant it. Elemental enchantments would likely allow for ranged attacks of that element
>>
>>243604
Also note that our master archer seems to be incapacitated.

>>243609
>ignoring the special component that focuses elemental energy into blasts

senpai.

Staffs are better senpai, embrace the wizard in you.
>>
>>243612
So a bow without string? Don't pull the issue of gauging range right after complaining about aim bottling using a wind elemental.
>>
We're also going to the magic city, and going to observe a magic tournament, so we could just see what everyone else is doing and adopt what we need.
>>
>>243610
>
Dex is about as important as Con for swords in particular (its Dex>Con for knives/shortswords however and Con>Dex for two-handers) But otherwise yes.

assuming this applies to spears as well as swords, they'd be CON based
>>
>>243622
We seem split in our decisions so we should probably just wait and see what the pros are doing.
>>
>>243623
Different sword types should (operative word) change Stat requirements. I imagine a rapier would be heavily DEX based rather than CON based
>>
Wait what happened? Are people no longer interested in going the spellsword route?
>>
>>243636
I am, I would prefer a non CON heavy type of weapon like daggers/shortsword/rapier type that full on longsword. But if we go with that we could also dabble in archery for at least initiating combat, stealth hits, and general long range engagements. Shoot one or two and then switch off if something moves in
>>
>>243636
I love spellswords, but we aren't built to be one. Mages are, as they're the ones that can cast spells at will. Wizards need to do long convoluted rituals, where making a single mistake can cause the spell to fail or backfire. Not something you can easily pair with a swordfight.

Plus, magic archer exploiting the little flaws in the game is fun. We can make bows that shoot fireballs, hit with the force of cannonballs, or explode on contact.
>>
>>243641
Uh no. We're a wizard, we have range covered. But we should have a sword to parry attacks a defend ourselves aganist melee attacks.
>>
>>243645
Or, if the water elemental can change states, freeze.
>>
>>243636
Honestly, I was never that enthused with it, though I'm not utterly against it. It would just require a fair bit of time investment to get into, given we'd need to practice with a weapon in order to get good at it, but we're always going to want to fight at range given, y'know, wizard.

I mean, I could go for it, but I'd prefer our weapon focus be staff/bow/rapier or something

A staff would be great for parrying attacks, anyways
>>
>>243649
>a defend ourselves
and* defend ourselves
>>
>>243654
Staff, yes.
>>
>>243649
We are a wizard, yes. We are not a mage to just throw off spells. We are about prep work and rube-Goldberg style action-causes-action/effect style spells.
>>
>>243658
...we still have range-covered? If you want to try and shoot arrows- which also requires a good deal of concentration, if I may add- while meticulously (flaws are consequential) prepping our spells, go ahead.

You begin the research. A time comes up on the screen telling you how much time is left. You think about what the words of the poem should be. Write a six line poem anons

Meanwhile John chats up the other passengers and gathers information. He ends up healing the daughter of a first class passenger of a fatal illness (they were heading to Dorter Magic City to try and get healing services) and the passenger invites both of you stay with him in the first class cabin. You agree.

The first class passenger is a middle aged man in rich purple robes, his daughter is only 7 years old.
"Ah! John, do come in! Is this your companion?"

So you're basing all of this off of information that we don't have yet. Alright.

Now let me raise you a counterpoint: we've seen one perk, so far, related to permanently binding a spirit to a weapon. We can never choose this perk again, and based on WizofOz's autobiography, I am more than willing to bet that there won't be another like it. So, if we assume that anything along the lines of permanent enchantment isn't in the game (which is far more likely than not, given the evidence within the quest thus far), what then?

any other short sword would work as well. A nice baskethilt rapier or grosses messer would certainly look nice, and would be based on DEX>CON

>>243777
staves don't offer all that much. They can be enchanted to shoot stuff, but a crossbow or bow would do the exact same without needing to be charged with our only spell. Until we can summon multiple elementals a day, a bow is much better than a stave
>>
Gandalf route > bow route
>>
>>243808
To the second point: with the bind elemental spell we kind of are summoning two elementals, one is just going straight in to an object.

Unless the bind spirit ritual was worthless without creating a summon spirit ritual. Or meant to be used on spirits found in out and about
>>
>>243808
No short-swords. We want range to keep the melees from killing squishy things like US. And thats more than enough. We specialize in magic. I assume the damage output will soon overshadow what we can get from a bow. And bows require immense skill. All that time investing into a specialization that definitely helps but doesnt synergize with our main, actual specialization.
>>
>>243808
You're assuming an enchanted staff in single-use. I'd assume it can be used as much as needed until the elemental is desummoned.

Additionally, a staff could be used as a quarterstaff to allow us to parry attacks as well
>>
>>243793
arrows are cheap in most games, so that being an archer is viable.

It'll take just as long learning to fight with a bo staff(which I can say is definitely a 2 handed weapon, you can't wield one with one hand)

you are assuming that enchanting a staff will let us shoot elemental blasts. It could just as likely light the tip on fire so we burn monsters when we hit them
>>
>>243806
Anything to get the thread of this fucking weapon speculation garbage.
>>
>>243808
Somehow I imagine being blasted by a staff would be more effective than getting shot with an arrow. Considering our considerable int/wis and how that would probably factor in to its damage output.

We should settle this simply.

Reply with your vote.

1) We use a bow for ranged and melee weapon for CQC

2) We use a staff for ranged/CQC and a melee weapon for CQC

3) We use a melee weapon for CQC and forgo a ranged weapon.

I vote for 2.
>>
>>243793
Money is easy to come by, either through loot sells or by book copy/selling per Wizards are OP

You really think being even an adequate swordsman IN MELEE would be easier/faster to learn than pull, aim, release

I can't garuantee anything since it would require we try it out but sure ignore the fact that you said we could enchant the staff, a melee weapon, to shoot water/fire. I could as easily say that we would need to buy arrows since we could for clay/ice ones.
>>
>>243821
sword should be a sidearm, something we use when we can't use magic or a bow. All weapons in the world require immense skill to use, otherwise knights and professional soldiers wouldn't be a thing. A staff takes just as much work

>>243822
quarterstaffs are at most 8 feet long. Held in a block, it would be as effective as a sword. However, they are much weaker, seeing how they are dependent on the user's strength(and we're weak af) and are bludgeons. An elemental bow could do the exact same things as a staff, with the added bonus of dealing ranged damage without an enchantment.

>>243819
It's a bind elemental, not a summon. We'd need to have an elemental to bind, before we can use it.
>>
>>243828
2.
>>243831
As Ive said before, we wont be investing as much as youre assuming in the sword. Only the basics to keep us alive. The bow however, will require said investment to be effective.
1a. Pick up weapon, thrust
or
1b. Raise sword, block/parry
As opposed to
2. Draw, aim, release, ACTUALLY HIT
Which is harder to accomplish?

"We've never actually seen it before."
"Ah newcomers then? Even better! The sport is quite simple on the surface, 5 players to a team, 2 teams to a match, 3 matches determines the victor."
"How do you play?"
"Well there are two balls, yellow and red. The objective is simply to have both balls at once. If the ball hits a player that player is out. Otherwise, anything goes. It used to be quite violent, but recent amendments to the rules have forbidden excessive violence."
"I take it only magic users play it?"
"Oh no, I wouldn't say that. It is true that the game is difficult without a mage or two on your team. But the free form nature of the game allows for many kinds of tactics and strategies. You'll see when you get there. I myself am planning to attend, though my wife doesn't like it. Haha."

learning to use a staff well requires just as much work as a bow, as well as having to enchant them each day and use up our only spells. Meanwhile, a bow can deal steady damage without a spell, while our high powered elemental can fight our actual battle. Why would we want to get anywhere near something that can kill us in one hit? A fucking level 3 skeleton was able to do it to us when we were level 6/8

>>243851

"Ok daddy." He turns back to you.
"I suspected as much, but I wasn't sure given your normal sounding names. When did you first log in?" The air is suddenly tense.
"Little more than a week ago."
"Hmm. What day is it, in the outside world?"
"It was Friday, June 3rd, 2016 when I logged in."
"Same." Says John.
"Hmm. What level are you?"
"What level are *you*?" A screen appears above his head:

Brainy314
Level 78 Warrior

Damn. You nod at John and briefly reveal your own profiles.
"Level 16 in only a week. Impressive." He gets up and pours himself a drink from a minibar in the corner (yet another perk of first class). He offers you and John a drink but you both refuse.
"So...you have questions I'm sure. You've done me a favor today, so I will humor you."
"Well first off, how long have you been in the game?"
"26 years, give or take a few months." Jesus.
"When did you log on?"
"Let's see, Monday? No, it was Sunday night of that week. That was a long time ago, or so it feels." He regards you and John. "You want to exit the game?" Do you really? You're not even sure anymore. "I sense hesitation. Hahaha. Yes. I too sought an exit. Desperately, I searched the vast expanses of un-ordered land, forest and hill and thick vale and when I had finally found an exit, I saw that I did not want to leave. I had fallen in love." You remain silent. "If you're wondering about the mechanics of the game, I cannot answer. Phil A. Show was the only one interested in such things."
"Who's he?" But that name sounds familiar too.
"Hmm, you *are* new. Phil is the king of Noutria and the first player to enter the game. He knows more about and its mechanics than any living soul, except perhaps that RealOG123 fellow. But where RealOG focuses on the game world, Phil knows the game itself. I would think you'd know him, he's #1 on the leaderboards after all." That's where you saw him. Brainypie continues. "There were the three of us in the beginning. RealOG123, myself and Phil. Together we explored much of the world, the game was harder then. No guidebooks, no MagicMarts. There were many close calls. But, in the end, we found an exit. By then Phil and I had already become attached to the game. I, by my future wife; Phil by the game itself. RealOG123 left, only to return a few years later. The only one to return."
"I see."
"I will give you one piece of information, and then we will part company on even terms. I don't like mingling with players anymore, this world is my home now and players only remind me of its...facade."
"I understand."
"Death is not death."
"What? I don't understand."
>>
"Death in the game is not death in real life. That was a trick, a lie necessary to sustain the game. Phil explained it to me once, but I don't remember it now. The bottom line: if you die, you'll be brought back to the character creation screen, wiped of all memories."
"How do you know this?"
"RealOG123. He checked up on a few of our...companions who had died. They were still alive and still playing. It's the only logical conclusion."

"Likewise. Take care Bob. John." John nods and the two of you return to your cabin.

The rest of the trip is not nearly as exciting. You finish researching the new ritual and it is added to your ritual screen:

>Rituals

Bind Fallen Foes - Allows you bind the spirit of an enemy you have killed onto an object for a time.
- Needs 'essence of enemy'
- Needs 2 gold coins
- Needs runes to be drawn
- Repeating releases former spirit
- Spirit is bound until the next full moon (30 days) or object is broken, or the ritual is performed again

Bind Lesser Elemental - Allows you to bind a summoned lesser elemental onto an object for 5+Wis hours
- Incantation:
I choose to bind
This Elemental
I hope they find
It rather gentle
Help me grind
Don't be judgmental

At last you arrive at Dorter Magic City.

The city lays on top of an island. Large glass spires reach toward the sky like skyscrapers. Giant hot air balloons and dirigibles cloud the sky. The city is a conglomerate of noise and excitement and movement. You book a room at one of the many hotels (the spires) at 5 silver a night. The room is on the 14th floor so you take the elevator. A bored looking Air Mage acts as concierge and powers the elevator with compressed air. Your room is huge and well furnished with decor you might expect in a modern hotel. The glass walls allow you to see the entire island at once. It's like floating in the air. Having finally arrived at the fabled Magic City, you are excited and ready.

What will you do first?

As I said, I'll be taking an extended break to flesh some more stuff out (I guess you could call it writer's block). I'll be back soon, I promise.

First course of action for when op gets back either has to be acquiring a badass weapon enhancement for our staff (hidden double blades bitches) or looking at local opportunities for xp

>>244668
Get a bow, and figure out what the potions/powder do.

>Bind Lesser Elemental - Allows you to bind a summoned lesser elemental onto an object for 5+Wis hours
Until we can get multiple elementals per day, the staff idea doesn't work. We've never been in combat, and just let our elementals fight for us. If we bind our only elemental to a staff, we'll be forced to fight monsters head on. Meanwhile, a bow is able to deal good damage from the back, where we'll be safe while the elemental serves as a tank/DPS. Getting a staff at this point will only cripple us
>>
>>244862
We already have a staff all we gotta do is augment it, and yes why not get a bow as a secondary weapon.

You guys are turning our weapon choice into a conroversial issue. Can we just do the good 'ol roll?
>>
>>245052
controversial*
>>
>>245060
Well here is the problem mate, we want a ranged weapon, cause why not, but we need a backup too. There in lies the issue, cause swords are boring as fuck so screw that shit, why not have a Goddamn double spear hidden in a staff? We can even enchant each blade with a different element its fucking genius.
>>
>>245071
Im going to assme we'll need to pay a good sum of money to have that made.
Anyways:
Choices are...
>Staff built with retractable double-spear mechanism
>Sword and stave dual-wield
>Stave primary and bow secondary
Anything else I should add? And what the Hell is wrong with swords?
>>
>>245085
>assme
assume*
>>
>>245071
problem is enchanting is a bitch and a half, not to mention how hidden blades are completely useless. Whats the point(heh), especially if we can get a bag of holding in the magic capitol of the world?

That's also ignoring how double spears have never been a thing, for good reason.
>>
>>245071
>Its fucking genius
No, it's fucking retarded. I would take the double shield idea before I thought this was a good idea. Double shield atleast would require little effort and enchanting/binding would be interesting.

I vote for short bow and Daggers. At this point it is all about DEX and minimal CON. We can use them in close quarters and it's more things to enchant.
>>
>>245085
bow primary
>>
>>245093
We're wizards. We dont want to be that close. We're best off with mid-ranged weapons. Staves, staffs, polearms, spears, swords, and lances. We're not fucking Hulk and we want dexterity so swords (there are different types of swords, like the estoc and rapier). They also provide an imperative defensive value. via parry, deflection, and to a lesser degree because we arent going CON, blocking.
>>
>>245085
Mostly a personal nerd quagmire, everyone loves and has a goddamn sword and I'm sick of it. We'd bassicly be Gandalf 2.0. I don't know man a short bow and a hidden double spear sounds pretty dope and original for a wizard to me.
>>245092
We can use one at a time in case one blade breaks, and that's if we're talking about realism and practicality in a game world, we have magic and shit to compensate. What the fuck do you mean about difficult enchanting? It'll be the same thing as enchanting two different weapons.
>>
Choices are...
>Staff built with retractable double-spear mechanism
>Sword and stave dual-wield
>Stave primary and bow secondary
>Bow primary
Anything else I should add?
>>
>>245115
Not a personal nerd quagmire. I speak in retrospect. Why would over 10 extremely successful empires use swords as their primary weapon before the arrival firearms? You're being biased. That gets you killed.
>>
>>245116
>>Bow primary
and we can just bind things to it like the fire sprit and shoot fire balls insted of arrows.
and poepl you keep forgetign that we shouldent be any where near a cqc and we have jon to fist things if they get too close
>>
>>245111
no, we're best at long range. A mage is suited for midrange, as they can cast at will, without reading a few pages worth of nonsense. We are not a mage. We are a wizard, and can only cast 2 fucking spells a day(one of which cancels the other's effect). Why would we ever want to be CQC?
>>
>>245116
>Bow+hidden double spear
Bow first because it's easier to obtain and then we will work towards the double spear
>>
>>245115
Im cool with the bow. Its badically like a the Elven race + hunter combo. Elves are generally eplained t be magically adept in the fantasy genre. And they make good hunters. Not for the same reasons but if they can do it, we can to some degree, I suppose. Bind physical prowess onto us and go pseudo-hunter?
>>245128
When the fuck did bows start shooting fireballs? Please retain some logical process of thought.
>>245131
Depends on the cast.
>>
>>245111
Using your own point against you
> I repeat, the sword is a PRECAUTION and LAST RESORT.
Except replace sword with dagger in this instance. Yeah we can go rapier/estoc. I would even prefer it but I was also arguing around the wall of "Durr, swords r dum!" by the other guy
>>
Double spear is kinda stupid and would likely require a stupidly high DEX score to not cut ourselves with it every time we try to fight with it

Jeez, what's wrong with the good old classic Wizard Staff?
>>
>>245115
>hidden double spear
chuunibyou isn't healthy.

>>245128
The problem you're ignoring is we can't control every detail. It's guaranteed we will enter an encounter, shit will happen, and we'll have to fight cqc. We could either have John train us in hand to hand and forge some brass knuckles, or we get a short sword for those times. Personally I prefer the hand to hand, since we'll always have our hands.
>>
>>245124
Kinda besides the point and I don't want to argue about even more meaningless bullshit than we already have our hands on right now.
Hidden double spear just fits better for our character in any situation than a sword does. Thing of future espionage situations.
>>
>>245116
Why not all three? Bow for long range, enchanted fire spewing staff for mid, and surprise sword skills if anything manages to get past our minions/companions for close range.
>>
>>245160
>>245160
We're a wizard, not a rogue. Stealth is not our strong spot, as evidenced by the fact we got pickpocketed in the last town.

Stop trying to push your shitty weapon down our throats, We're a wizard, why can't that be enough? Why do we need to be some special snowflake?
>>
>>245154
Again if we are worried about requirements we can just use one blade and if that might brake somehow we can switch to the other
>>
>>245154
i know that we cant always controle range but if they get too clsoe just ran away or somethign eils to make the back off of us. we should get john a mace for holey smiteing
>>
>>245160
Please explain how hidden double spear "fits our character better than sword." I am super interested in what train of logic your stringing together.
>>
>>245143
bows can shoot fireballs better than a stick

as for the cast, we have two choices. One summons an elemental, which will fight on our behalf. This takes a few minutes to cast, reading from a book. The other spell we have kills the elemental we summoned, and makes our weapons elementally themed. This spell is quicker, consisting of a 6 line poem. Which of these spells is appropriate to use while fighting a monster?
>>
>>245176
we always have one to when we kill a moster we can bind it to an iteam for 30 days i think
so y not just summon an elemetnal keep it out then bind the dead moster sprit to the bow or something ? or just get the elmental to change forms into a dword or bow if peopel are that anal about it

>>245146
Attempt at rebuttal failed. The dagger puts us at way too much peril. Thats out of the question. We're niether normally that quick, agirl, and/or lithe. The sword provide a medium between power and defense, we'll use it mostly for its defensive capabilities and compliment it with a greater emphasis on DEX because we're more vunerable.
>>245151
And strength so CON.
>>245160
It was your point. Dont bring it up next time.
>>245167
Expensive as fuck in more ways than just money
>>245176
Stop playing bad RPGs. Unless you mean we're going to light the arrow tip on fire beforehand. And no, the wont "shoot fireballs better". Staves are magically-atunned "sticks". Our INT stat will overpower our ability to shoot fireballs out of "sticks" to the point that the bow would become negligible.
>>
>>245188
>niether
neither
>agirl

>And no, the wont
And no, they wont
>>
>>245174
It's really minuscule so at this point I just give up.
I'll at least answer your question.
So say for example we are being accosted by bandits or being patted down by town Gaurds or anything along those lines, if we are forced to fight we have the initiative by just pointing the staff in their face and presto he is dead. Oh think you broke my blade? Guess I'm undefined do now... Nah jk. You see what I'm talking about? It's just the edge of supplies damnit

>*unzips katana* psh, nothin' personal kid
>>
>>245188
if we're gonna be enchanting something, be it with a spirit or an elemental, they will give the weapon buffs based on the powers of the spirit/elemental. A bow with a fire elemental or fire monster spirit enchantment will make it's arrows fire based. Literally every videogame or RPG with enchanting does this. A stave will be able to shoot flames, but will likely lack the range of a bow. That's also assuming that the stave will shoot flames, rather than just getting an aura of flame for when we hit something in melee with it
>>
>>245194
At no point did you give an argument for why the hidden double bladed staff is better for our character than a sword. You described a scenario where the concept of a hidden weapon would benefit literally anyone.

>>245188
My rebuttal hinges on the idea that, for the purposes of our weapons, in that case primary bow and dagger secondary, we would boost DEX making us agile and or lithe with training. But again, I like rapier/estoc as the primary close range weapon. But hey, we'd have to put point in DEX for that too, wow!
>>
>>245217
Well if op says spears are con or quality weapons then I'll side with you I guess

>really mad right now cause hidden double spears are really kick ass but I can't have em
>>
>>245194
Well that begs the question. Success in some rare chance situation or success in the battlezone- of which Im sure I dont have to say is a lot more common. You're going a little rogue here. I like rogue. Its my favorite class archetype. If theres anyone who wants to go utilitaristically offensive with some creative weaon wielding and dagger, its me. But listen, we're a wizard. Consider our physical capabilties. If we;re going to stab a gaurd in the facem be prepared to do so with all the other gaurd in the keep or city because we probably wont have much time to cast a ritual.
>>245217
But much less DEX. "wow" [sic]. I personally would recommend the rapier or estoc, they were just examples. They severely lack defensive capabilities. As for the dagger and bow, a lot more dex to invest. And how quick would our INT be increasing? Maybe we shouldve chosen a different class because clearly a class is just a word and connotates nothing about our parameters.
>>
>>245217
if/when we end up getting the rapier, a parrying dagger or buckler would be useful for our offhand. It would also benefit greatly from high DEX
>>
>>245233
>I personally would

Or at least the one to write it down. I was also the one pushing for binding the water elemental to our shoes for mobility purposes.

Having said that, I want to stay a wizard. I like rituals and I want to stick with what we have now. Having brought up the idea, I really like having something like the Chinese Straight Sword. It's a good fencing weapon that could stand up to more blocking type maneuvers than a rapier. I am willing to concede on Bow since everyone is so fucking down on it. Plus we'll need time for alchemy and hopefully make something like smoke bombs or bomb potions.

>>245254
Thats actually a pretty good idea. But then theres the fact that there's a lot more contact in a set period of time. We're wizards, try for less physical strain and engagement. I was considering a hack-n-slash sword. Gandalf uses a broadsword, I think. We dont want to put too much emphasis on blocking though, like Ive said earlier. And hack-n-slash weapon leans more towards deflections and parries and a greater force (without needing to put it the same value as is with a regular sword) because of its shape.
>>245268
LESS BLOCKING. GEEZ.

Dude, read the whole thing and try to think about what is being said. I responded to your post about only using rapiers as an example of more DEX based swords. You stated that they would lack in defensive capabilities.
I then found a more solid style of fencing sword that RELATIVELY could stand up to more blocking style maneuvers than a rapier. I forgot to add the 'if we had to...' tag to it so, my bad

I'm only half serious about this but it wouldn't be terribly out of line to make some sort of hand signs to use as part of rituals. Getting close to Naruto style magic territory but...I can't entirely call it a bad idea for reasons other than Naruto hate.

There doesnt always neccesarily need to be a ratio. And Im not sure about equalizing the wisdom distribution to dexterity. Whatever we dont need for WIS goes int INT, I think. DEX would be more of an oppurtunistic stat for us. If we need it, we raise it. This could be ever other level or for a few levels until a it hits a certain value and we an just plateau it from there. Well first, Im not sure if the elementals continue to exist if they go beyong a certain distance from the summoner, us. Second, its a dragon. Im going to assume it breathes fire like traditional RPG fantasy dragons. Meaning its insides are heat resistant to a great degree. I dont know how big it is buuuuut still, rocky isnt that big and a fire elemental at our level would probably singe it at best. And the throat may be too big for Rocky to clog it anyway. Rocks melt by the way. Im sure even our elementals have a
life span of some sort- like health points.

that on the outside thow wont be needed fire resten hearts now would they, might not be able to block air way could use air pperson to steal all the aire from it cant make fire without air. fun to try anyways we dont have to run away from it just hid close by, and i dont think the dragon will be flying around with somthign inside of it hit hearts and shit

Picard here, I say we forgo the weapon decisions entirely and focus on H2H as the previous anon said.

Perhaps get a dank pair of gauntlets and enchant those fuckers.

I say we get INT to 40 WIS to 35 and then up DEX and CHA in a 3/2 ratio for a few levels.

I have a feeling John is going to die soon so we shouldn't rely on him too much.

We don't have news from Lelogas, last news his name was greyed on the friend list.
We've been told he turned pm off while he was in a dungeon or something, but I'm afraid he might have been killed by Robin.
We have to retrieve our teleport rock too btw. If the thief is a PK, it won't be fun since we tried to get her killed.

I misread the "still playing" apparently.
It's still only a deduction from seeing players respawn.
>>
>>245636
>The bottom line: if you die, you'll be brought back to the character creation screen, wiped of all memories
>It's the only logical conclusion

Alternative theory he overlooked: They never got sent to the character creation screen. Instead they're in the game's underworld, or just changed servers, still leaving them trapped until they find an exit.

What if the most efficient way to get past level 70 is to die and go to the game's version of Hell, but it's stupidly hard to get back to the mortal realm, or people just don't want to leave because it's full of hookers and blackjack.
>>
Or we get a Halberd, imbue it with a spirit.
Wouldn't that be better?
>>
>>245718
If we imbue a water elemental to our boots, earth to our gauntlets or gloves, fire to our staff and wind to our robe/cape then we will be absolutely op. The combinations and utilitarian capabilities of the four elements will probably be enough to fight that lich when we get about 4 levels higher.
>>
>>245933
And we don't even need melee weapons when we can just infuse an amulet with an 'emit force' like spell or even short range teleportation.
>>
>>245937
that and we could try to learn a summon armor spell that covers our body in some elemental plate armor while having our pet summons fight enemies
>>
>>245528
Considering Gauntlets and a lot of other weapons would need higher CON and would take a lot of time to train with, a staff does seem like a pretty good choice. Even if we can't make it shoot fireballs, having a weapon that requires (relatively) little training that uses DEX and is mid-range seems pretty useful.
Personally, I doubt we'll need a weapon anytime soon considering we use our elementals most of the time anyways, but a staff could be used like a crowbar in an emergency or serve as a decent weapon if our elemental dies.
>>
>>246024
Gauntlet weapons don't necessarily have to be CON weapons.

With the proper application of DEX, all we would need to do is parry incoming weapons and apply our fire elemental bound gauntlet directly to the enemy and burn them. No real application of force needed. Burn their hand, they drop their weapon. Poke them in the eye, eye gets burnt out.
I would think that an earth elemental bound to gauntlets would give what is essentially a CON bonus equal to the elemental's strength or CON and allow us to punch with the same/similar strength of Rocky, or better with a more advanced elemental.
>>
We could always forget all about silly weapons and go full turbo on Wisdom and create ridiculously overpowered summons (Spirit Prince?) for our level and rely on them. MinMax instead of going hybrid
>>
>>246078
the problem with gauntlets are how close we have to get to monsters. We got one-shotted by a monster half our level, you really want to be in close?

That also ignores that we have to use all of our spells to produce the gauntlets each day. While we're stuck with only one summon and a binding spell, enchanted weapons aren't practical.
>>
>>246116
For fucks sake we need to stop arguing right fucking now and just focus on getting good. Fuck weapons up the ass, we just need to nuke shit. If we need a weapon we will get one when the time is right simple as that.
>>
>>246176
may as well talk it out since the quest is on break.
>>
>>246196
Ok here is the deal, first vote is:
>incorporate a weapon into our combat style
>just focus on Magic
Let's vote on this first and then we will hold another as see fit
>>
>>246204
>incorporate a weapon into our combat style
Entirely because we do not /have/ a combat style. We've never fought anything. Our elementals have done literally all of the work, while we sat in the back playing solitaire. The very least we can do is get a long range weapon and plink while we wait for the elemental to kill the monster
>>
>>246204
>>incorporate a weapon into our combat style
Plus rituals are all about being setup before hand. We have literally nothing to do while a fight is going on and we wouldn't be able to just drop a ritual if something comes at us/
>>
>>246204
>incorporate a weapon into our combat style
Literally just skimmed through all of the weapon bullshit you guys were talking about. Regardless, I believe in the necessity of owning a weapon to defend ourselves when an enemy gets past John and our elementals. Unless we can overwhelm the enemy with a bunch of spirits and elementals by our side, which I know will be quite a while before we can hope to see that, some kind of weapon is better than having your pants down in an enemy encounter.
>>
>>246204
Ok since I changed my mind like 15 bloody times in the last 24 hours I'll be consistent in my statements from now on.
>incorporate a weapon into our combat style
>>
>>246204
Right so the vote is more or less unanimous at this point, so the next thing is which aspect to focus on the most regarding the weapon.
>practicality, from every stage, beginning combat and ending it
>utility, extra benefits inherent in the design that allow enhanced and more options of dealing with non combat issues
>>
>>246274
>practicality, from every stage, beginning combat and ending it
weapons are for combat, and the main weapons we're discussing lack any uses beyond combat
>>
>>246274
I also vote practicality, as much as I would like something utilitarian.
Anybody want to vote for the previous vote or change things around btw? I might have gone a little fast.
>>
Ignore this until we want to vote on weapons.

OK, so lets make this about weapons. For sake of simplicity let's keep it to just a primary and not worry about secondaries. Let's also consider weapons as standalone since we do not have the rituals to bind and have a separate summon available.

>Bow
Needs DEX mainly, minor CON. Keeps us back from fighting where we will be anyway, ideally. If something breaks through

>Sword (Fencing)
Breaking this in to two due to style. DEX based sword, minor CON commitment. Good for transitioning later into a bow secondary. With DEX focus we are more mobile and dodge-y. IF we get hit we won't have as much CON to stand up to abuse. Alternatively we dodge until our summons/allies can assist, slightly more dangerous than CON based sword.

>Sword (Long/Short sword)
More CON based than fencing. We will be able to hold our own in close quarters. We would be able to take some damage allowing time for summons/allies to assist.

>Staff
Could go either way for stats CON/DEX but would likely still require more CON than a fencing style sword to hit and do damage with a blunt weapon. Slightly more range than either sword type but effective range is further away than either sword type meaning if an enemy gets within that range we are in trouble. Previous point counterbalance by amount of CON allocated.

>Dagger
Almost pure DEX. Effectively at extremely short range. More concealable, lightweight (relative), and multiple backups can be had. Good utility.

>>246274
>>practicality, from every stage, beginning combat and ending it
>>
>>246305
We will vote if we want a secondary after this vote, don't be so hasty this is so we are all on the same page.
And if we do decide on a secondary we will do a separate vote for that one entirely
>>
>>246314
yeah, was just writing it up and intended to rave it to a sticky note or something but derped and submitted. Is there any glaring omissions to the weapon types/selections?
>>
May as well add some 'word of god' to these weapon deliberations (which are entertaining to say the least). Assuming you're fighting some other player and ceteris paribus, victory would generally be determined like this:

Tactics>Weapon Proficiency>Stats>Weapon (unless it's a unique, in which case it goes before stats)

Take a look at the battle between those swordsmen in Olekville for hints for how Weapon Proficiencies work and you'd go about getting them.
>>
>>246274
>looking cool
I mean that is the whole point.
>>
>>246330
Thanks op but we still have to do this as it is important.

So we want a practical weapon to go to our combat style

Let's vote now on if we want a
>primary and secondary
or
>just a primary

We will do the secondary selection after the primary if we do chose secondary
>>
>>246330
heh, he thinks there's logic behind our arguments

>>just a primary
focus for a bit.

Get moderate with single weapon and crafting before getting a secondary weapon. Just to get over than initial hump
>>
>>246340
>just a primary
Our magic is our main weapon. We should have something else only too protect us in those rare circumstances where an enemy gets close to us.
>>
>>246360
Good point but if your going to vote for a bow or something as a primary later into the voting process were gonna have to redo the vote.

A bow without a backup is pretty bad

I'm getting ahead of myself I'm sorry I'm on like 3 threads right now

Primary and secondary
>>
>>246340
>primary and secondary
Having a bow primary fits our tactics currently, but it never hurts to have a rapier on hand for when shit hits the fan. Ideally, we would never have to fight a monster hand to hand. However, having a bow and sword that are based on DEX would allow us to focus more on our core stats.

Also, we should get a bag of holding and carry a ballista for fighting bosses
>>
>>246340
So so far it's 3 for primary and secondary and 2 for just primary, any others or can we continue with primary selection onto secondary?
>>
>>246394
prima un secondus
>>
>>246340
>>just a primary
>>
>>246406
That settles it.

So here is one more thing before picking our practical primary

Now go down the list and select those main things for the secondary

My vote
>utilitarian dex weapon
>>
>>246487
a second set of smaller shields
a dex weapon that converts wis stat into dex for damage calculations? i second your vote though
>>
>>246487
theres no point in getting a CON weapon then getting a DEX one. We'd just have to split our focus and stats, leading to both weapons being weaker.
>>
>>246497
I still stand by my vote, what's your vote tho?
>>
>>246497
fuck, forgot about that.

would be cool to have a wis or int weapon tho
>>
>>246505
well, if we're going with con weapons

Giant leafspring bow and the dragonslayer
>>
>>246514
We need more people to vote, at this point we have

>practical con primary
>(assumingly) utilitarian con secondary
>>
Both CON weapons. If there are any INT or WIS weapons I'd obviously vote those though.
>>
>>246487
>Smaller Dual shields
I wholly believe in my cause
>>
>>246523
We won't need to go back to the drawing board if there are int or wins weapons, we can just vote if one or bothe gets int or wis since it would be retarted not to get them.

So far though assuming there is no wins or don't weapons we have

>practical con primary
>utilitarian con secondary

That would be giving away too much. (You shouldn't even have the full list of weapons to begin with). You'll have to experiment in-game. But for the most part, things will be as you expect and follow common sense.

I'd like to say that stats are relevant only to being able to use specific weapons. To that end, there will be static Con/Dex requirements based on the weapon itself.

After that, proficiency is most important.

We will vote based on category then

I think we should consider having [being a fucking wizard] as a primary.
Then, a regular secondary, and tool(s) that can double as a weapon as tertiary. Efficiency is more important than stats, we'll have to train. Maybe there are training grounds, sparing clubs or something.
Tactics are more important than weapons, so we could get tactical weapons too, while we're looking for ways to cheat the game.

And for the ones complaining we spent our fights sitting in a corner playing solitaire, we might as well train crafting or knitting or juggling or singing or playing the mandolin.
I remember we got a level in butchering/looting body parts or something, we could train on a few carcass even if we cut through a few hearts if it trains us to get to rarer parts (better for magic.)
Can we work on writing spells, that takes days, while elementals farm for us?
>>
>>247932
>playing the mandolin.
Speaking of that we should tell the faggot to get a violin or similar instruments since he already knows how to play one. It might provide us some buffs.

What about a different approach?

Boomerang Wizard.

We have a few boomerangs crafted and sharpened and put a wind elemental in it and we just absolutely destroy.

This will work, trust.

>>
>>247985
This is actually not a half bad idea.
Besides being a bitch to train in (the wind elemental may counteract any lack of skill we have though), a boomerang would be such an uncommon weapon to use, I doubt any players would have a specific plan to counter against it.
It's ranged, which will help us survive and give us time to cast rituals.
Finally, depending on what our wind elemental could do, we could theoretically just throw it out and have it just fly around the enemy, occasionally hitting it or blasting it with wind.
