"Yes," you respond to the man, "I am." You have your palms folded in your lap.

"Alright," the man puts the file folder down. "Now, are you aware of your particular situation?" You shake your head.

The man clears his throat. "This academy is very prestigious Mr. Assaf. This is where the top nations and corporations send their top magical candidates for training and research. You have been sponsored by the Grand Magus Board of Review and Inquiry due to your unique situation." His lips curl as he speaks to you curtly. "Most people have one magical circuit, the biological machinery that allows humans to channel magic from mana in the universe. Through training and research, a person can expand the usage of the one circuit they have. Experiments involving giving people more than one have had averse affects on the subjects and are now considered heresy by the Board. The only exception is the wizard Merlin, who possessed three magical circuits naturally. Then theres you..." He folds the tips of his fingers together in front of him on the desk. "From examination of you, you appear to possess four magical circuits naturally. As one might imagine, this is spectacular and honestly quite unbelievable. Nonetheless, the Board has declared that you are not the result of heresy and your special gifts should be preserved and provided funds and backing to send you here. Now, I'm going to inform you of two things ahead of time. First, this academy sponsors one person from each year the chance to view documents in the Library of Alexandria, our greatest source of magical knowledge. You are allowed to use the resources in the Library to your fullest advantage for research and general education of your magical abilities. This is the goal of most of our students. Next, your particular circumstance has made you a very popular person amongst the powerful nations and corporations. Each of them are looking to get their hands on you. They are looking to add you to their collections in order to increase their own prestige and power. The Board has declared that you will be allowed to make your own decision at the end of this year. Who you choose to align yourself with is up to you. For future reference, I am Director Quarkland, the head of this academy. Please conduct yourself well. We have qualifying combat matches later in the month, and you have already been assigned a partner. The details will be sent to your dorm room later. Now, if you go outside there is a guide to take you to your room and show you around the facilities. You will not have to attend classes today but please be punctual tomorrow. Now, I am very busy Mr. Assaf, and I ask that you do behave yourself. Good day." He holds his hand out while shuffling papers and looking down at them with his other hand.

You shake his hand, which he quickly pulls away. "Thank you, Director Quarkland." He waves his hand to show that he wants you to leave. You take your leave out of the double doors in the front of the office, walking into the hall. The decorations are victorian.

"Hello," a male voice calls out to you from your right. "Are you the new student?" A boy is walking towards you slowly, smiling slightly.

"Yeah, I am." you say. He smiles and puts his hand out.

"Christopher Alexandrev," he says happily, "Nice to meet you."

>>
(Your handshake power level has gone up. By the way, your comments have had me choking on my coke)

You shake his hand. "I'm Solomon Assaf. Likewise." He smiles brightly. His hand is soft and somewhat limp. You feel him try to get out of your grip, as he is apparently uncomfortable. However, he is still trying to keep some sort of politeness so he keeps his hand there.

He manages to get his hand free, which he shakes slightly. "Quite a grip," he chuckles. "Now, I am your guide for today. There is quite a bit to see, so I would be willing to show you whatever you want to see first. We could go to your room in the dorms first, if you want. Or we could check out some of the classroom facilities and I could show you around to where your different classes are. Since you and I are both first years, the classes we have don't differ too much. I don't know if our schedules are exactly the same though. The other thing we could do is look around at the extra school facilities and I could show you around. What do you want to do?"

"What are some of the other facilities that are offered?" You ask.

The boy in front of you responds quickly, "Well, since one of the primary goals of the Academy is giving students the resources they need to research on their own in order to gain power and knowledge to be better warriors, scholars, and mages representing their nation or corporation. So, we have extensive magical libraries for all areas of study. Additionally, there are training facilities for those who wish to apply research in a practical sense. Here, it'll be better if I show you around." He waves for you to follow him. You walk behind him until you get outside into what seems to be a large open courtyard.

He points to a large circular building. "Thats the public viewing training area, but most just call it the Colesseum. It serves as the area where qualifying combat matches are held, or if there's a big enough audience to watch a duel. There are smaller versions of this facility around. I'm hoping that I'll be in there later this year for the qualifying matches. Are you participating in that?" You nod. "Wait, so who is your partner for it?"

"Hell man, I lived in an area where I wasn't super exposed to magic before this, so this most magic is pretty new to me. I've not only never cast a spell, but I've never seen someone cast a spell."

He looks at you with surprise. "Wow," he says, "I've been around magic my whole life. I cast my first spell when I was 4 years old. Given, it was by accident, but still. You're gonna need some serious practice buddy." He laughs and slaps you on the back.

"Anyways," he goes on, "there are libraries all around campus where you can study anytime you like. That building there though," he points to the massive building with the columns at the entrance. "is off limits to anyone without a pass. That is the Library of Alexandria, home to all the world's magical knowledge. You can see all sorts of documents inside of it, classified documents, ancient grimoires, everything. I hope I can see it one day." He smiles longingly at the sight of the building. I can only imagine what's in it. Only high ranking members of the Board can see the inside of it, as well as one student from each year of this academy."

He shakes his head, dismissing his daydreams and begins speaking to you again. "Those are the important facilities. What do you want to see next?"

"How about the classrooms?" You say. "I think I'd like to know where I need to go tomorrow."

"Alright," he says, "follow me." He begins to walk in the direction of complex of buildings. You follow behind while he tells you about the different buildings.

He shows you around to the classrooms that he has to go to and shows you the various class facilities. As you walk to the last building he wants to show you, a well-dressed man approaches you both. Christopher stops talking and immediately tries to gather his thoughts as the man addresses you.

"Is this the new student?" he asks, his voice thick with an accent you don't know.

You put your hand out to greet him. "Solomon Assaf."

The man looks down at your hand. "Charmed," he says to you, apparently refusing to shake your hand. "Now, Mr. Assaf, I would recommend that you be careful for today. Most of the students are unaware of what you look like yet, as your profile has not been fully integrated into the system. Once it is, everybody will know who you are. Classes are going to let out soon, and you two look awfully suspicious. I will try to help you today, Mr. Assaf, but as of tomorrow you will need to handle things on your own. I would suggest you keep moving, gentlemen. Good day." He begins to walk away.

You cock your head, trying to comprehend the interaction you just had with the man. Christopher taps your shoulder, motioning for you to follow him.

"Who was that?" You ask.

"That's one of the teachers here. He is also a representative from Gehenna, an outworld. He doesn't have much sway with the Director though." he responds. He points to a building, "Right there is a virtual training facility, its used for several classes in order to practice the practical application of magic. So, that just about wraps up the tour. So, do you want to go see your room now?"

"I'd like you to show me where my room is, Christopher." You tell him.

"Sure thing. Also, you can call Chris, everybody else I know does." He waves for you to follow. You walk for a bit while Chris continues to point out different buildings. He points to a large two buildings located in a courtyard type area. He points to one with a red cross over the entrance. "Thats the hospital," he says, and points to the other building, "and that is the cafeteria." He continues to walk, telling you the meal schedule.

Finally, you come up on three tall buildings that are in a row. Chris begins to speak, "These are the dorms. Since your surname is Assaf, you should be pretty high up on the left building. I'll see you up there and then I'll take my leave. I have to get notes from my classes. Here, we'll see where you are." You follow him as he begins walking to the entrance to the left building.

You walk inside, seeing the lobby. A man is sitting at a desk in the center between two metal double doors. You reason that these are the elevators. Chris walks you up the man. He looks up from a document he is writing on and stares at you for a moment before smiling.

"Hello, you must be our new student." He genially says. The man is short and portly. He has no facial hair and small beady eyes. He most notable feature about him is the pig like snout he has. You don't know what to make of him.

"Yeah, I'm Solomon Assaf." You find yourself staring at his snout. Immediately after he hears your name, he pulls out a small square shaped box. He presses the top of the box, and a light blue plane appears on the table. He taps some of the buttons on what you figure out is a screen. "Mr. Assaf," he continues to look at the screen as he speaks, "you are on the 22 floor in room. Your name is on the door. It is at the end of the hall by the windows. Have a nice day."

Chris taps you, motioning to follow. "I'll show you where it is." He pushes the button on the elevator, and the doors slide open. You both walk in, and he presses the button for the 22 floor. "That's Mr. Regnus. He's a hog orc."

"Hog orc?" you ask for clarification. Chris cocks his head, confused that you don't know what he is referring to.

"Oh, right. You've never seen any of this stuff before have you. Hog orcs are one of the outland races. In general, they have low magical potential as most are arcanaphobic. They are one of several orc races, and hog orcs specifically claim to be the true orc line. There is a good amount of racial tension between them and the other orc races. Mr. Regnus has little magic, only enough to operate basic magitech like the Connector he was using." Chris shakes his head. "Connectors are these items that can connect to the internet and magical fields. Usually, users tend to activate them with their own magic, it allows them to personalize them some. However, there is a magic power supply in the device that can start it.

>cont

>>245327

Chris continues, "Every student is given one so that he or she can use the different resources available to their full effectiveness on his or her own time. The school system allows you to message other students instantaneously, as well as connect with those in your own country if you want. Almost nobody monitors these lines of communication because of the confidentiality agreement that is signed. The gist of it is that as long as you keep private the resources available to the students, meaning as long as you don't put the stuff online, they will respect your privacy and space. Only if there is a security concern are things monitored." You realize that the elevator started moving and has been moving for a bit since Chris began talking. You aren't used to the smooth movement, as any elevator you've been on before has been jerky and dangerous feeling. "But back to other races, there are a bunch at this school. This place has served as somewhat of an international school where different cultures from all worlds send their kids to get the best magical education they can. We have all sorts of exotic races here. You'll run into them eventually. Oh, we are about to reach your floor." Soon after he stops talking, the doors slide open and you find yourself staring down a long hallway with some branching corridors. You look behind you and realize that the same setup is behind you through the back door of the elevator. Chris cranes his neck to look at one of the names on the door closest to the elevator, then promptly turns around and begins walking in the other direction down the hall. "Come on," he says.

You follow him down the hallway, looking at the different doors, each has a name in several different languages, some that you know from the look of the letter, other that are completely alien to you. Eventually, Chris stops and pivots on his heels, facing a door. He points to it.

The door has your name on it in English first, "Solomon Assaf". Below it is the same name in a different language. Below that is another. You see that it is the same as all the other doors.

"Well," Chris says, lightly patting you on the shoulder, "this is where I believe that I take my leave. Anyways, dinner is at 6 to 8, so don't be late. Hey, if you come at 6, my buddies and I would love to have you at our table. You want to sit with us?" He smiles at you.

"Sure man, I'd be delighted to go with you guys." You reply happily. He smiles.

"Cool, I'll see you later. Welcome!" He begins to walk away, leaving you with the door. You try the door handle, and find that it is unlocked. You walk in, and find that the room is even colder than the hallway outside. The room is western, reminding him a hotel room you stayed during transit to the academy. On the desk there is a file folder and one of those small boxes like the one you saw Mr. Regnus using. You can see that your bags were all taken up already, and are up against what you assume is a closet. It appears that you have a private bathroom and a fridge as well. Additionally, there appears to be small cooking area behind a door in a part of the room. You realize that this room is pretty big. Your bed is massive, bugger than any bed you've ever seen.

You decide to look at the folder on the desk. You open it, and see that there are several papers enclosed. The first paper is a list of classes that you are taking this semester. The second paper is the schedule that Chris told you about. The third paper has stapled to it a small plastic card and another envelope. The paper says that these each serve as keys to the room so that you can have your privacy. The final piece of paper is addressed to you, and explains the nature of the qualifying combat matches.

As you are to understand, the qualifying matches serve as a large scale method of updating rankings amongst the students of each year. Students are to form teams of two. These teams will compete in matches to determine who will be ranked at the top. They can deposed from this spot at a later date in a duel. At the bottom, it says the name of your partner for the matches. Apparently, your partner's name is Astrid Kaspar. You look, and realize that there is nothing else in the folder. You have about 2 hours until dinner is served, so you have some time to kill.

You tap the top of the little box, which causes a blue screen to appear. You begin to navigate the menus, eventually finding what appears to be some sort of messaging application. You press the plus sign in the right corner, which causes a bar to appear at the top of the screen. It prompts you to enter the name of the recipient. You tap the bar, which causes a keyboard to appear. You type the name Kaspar, which causes an option to appear that reads "Kaspar, Astrid." You tap this and you are brought to a field where you are supposed to enter what you are going to message. This sort of technology is crazy to you, you've never seen anything like it. You decide to message Chris before you go to the park to meet Astrid. You find his name and begin to message with him.

You: Hey Chris

Chris: Hey man, how are you settling in?

You: Well, I just found out who my partner is, and i tried to message her, I had a strange interaction with her

Chris: Really? Who is it?

You: Astrid Kaspar.

Chris: Really?

You: Yeah. Is there something wrong with that?

Chris: Umm...kinda. She has a bit of a reputation. Around here, she's called the Witch.

You: The Witch? Why is she called that?

Chris: She was the result of government programs to try to make an artificial human with multiple magical circuits. Now, I don't know all the details, but I do know that the Board's agents raided the lab where she was made. Apparently, she is just natural enough to not be marked as a heretic and destroyed. They sent her here to keep her safe. She does have two magical circuits, but since they're not natural they don't really factor into anything record worthy. People have told me that she is powerful, but her power is unstable and dangerous. Anyways, be careful dude.

You: Ok, thanks.

Chris: I gotta go for a sec, but I'll talk to you at dinner. See you.

You: Bye

You stop messaging with Chris. You have 15 minutes till you have to leave. You could go to the park early. You could also investigate the tablet a bit more.

You decide to go to the park. You put the small cube in your pocket, grabbing the key and the card. You leave your room, hearing a magnetic lock sound from behind you. You go out of the building, walking towards where Chris took you before. Eventually, you end up in the park. Students are milling around the park, sitting on benches, playing basketball and other games. You look around, confused as to who could be Astrid. You look at your watch, and see that its five minutes until 5 oclock. You see two girls sitting around alone in the park. One is sitting under a tree reading a book, and the other is on a bench looking at things on a Connector.

You walk behind the girl sitting on the bench. She has long golden blonde hair that goes down to her waist. She continues to swipe her finger on the display of the connector, not really paying attention to you. You walk up behind her, tapping her shoulder. She immediately turns around and looks at you. You hold out your hand.

"Hi, I'm Solomon Assaf. Are you Astrid Kaspar?" you ask, smiling. She grabs your hand with both of hers, standing up and walking behind the bench.

"Oh my god. You are soo cute!" She giggles and wraps her arms around your neck. Now that you see her fully, you can tell that she is quite beautiful. She brings her face close to yours, "How about you come with me for a while? I want to do some shopping and I don't want to go alone. Pretty please?" She smiles and gives you a pleading look.

You begin to blush and try to get away from her grasp. "Umm, so you're not Astrid Kaspar?" She shakes her head.

"Why don't you not worry about that and come have fun with me?" She tightens her grip. She moves her body closer to yours.

>"Ummm...ok"

but instead phrased somewhat like
"I would love to accompany you, but unfortunatively I have to find someone quite hastily. If you don't mind I could go shopping with you after the classes are over, if that's fine with you."
>>
"I would love to accompany you, but unfortunately I have to find someone quite hastily." You begin to explain. She gives you with a pouty look. "If you want, we can go shopping tomorrow after classes." She smiles happily at you.

"Sure," she says, "its a date." She moves her face in and lightly kisses you on the cheek. "I'll meet you here tomorrow. Don't be late." She lets you go, turns around and begins walking away.

You move to speak with towards the girl under the tree. She has long black hair, much longer than the girl at the bench. You are trying to decide how to approach her.

Summon all of our magical power into our hand and give her the Ultimate Handshake Of 1000 Deaths

You again tap this girl on the shoulder, managing to touch a cluster of strands of hair. You begin to realize just how much hair she has. She stops reading the book and turn toward you.

"Hi, I'm Solomon Assaf. Are you Astrid Kaspar?" You hold out your hand in greeting. She looks down at your hand and then takes it, shaking your hand. Her hand is soft.

"Yes, I am." She says softly, escaping from your grip. "Come with me." She closes the book she is reading and starts to walk, motioning for you to follow. She leads you to a large building.

You recognize this building as the one that Chris showed you earlier. You remember that he called this building the virtual training facility. You see that on the side of the entrance, there is an identifying plaque that also says "Virtual Training Facility." You walk in with her, and she moves to a small terminal on the wall of the lobby. You see that there are hallways on either side. She taps some buttons and then motions for you to come with her down one of the hallways. She walks down to a door, and presses her hand on the center, opening it. You follow her in, and find yourself in a large room with black walls and lights on the ceiling. She turns to you.

"First, I want to establish a baseline. How much experience in magic do you have?" She asks.

"Not much," you say as you rub the back of your neck and shaking your head. "Today was the first day for a lot of things for me. You see, I lived in Turkey, and the town I lived in was one that wasn't very comfortable with magic. I didn't even know I had magic potential until they examined me-"

"Ok." She interrupts you. "Is what they say true about your magical circuits?"

>"Yes"

>"As far as I know"

"I have no idea at all to be honest, everyone keeps saying i do but i don't know how to sense them"
