Zheng Li and the Dawn Tigers are forced to move north, the officials of the village he saved tired from their presence and recruiting of the local youths. He marches north where he hears of a certain Zang Ba taking food from the people. After informing Tao Qian, he duels an infuriated Zang Ba and collapses after a long fight.

You awake to the sound of drills and men marching about. Immediately as you open your eyes your body winces in pain and you can feel the wounds in your stomach and the other areas you were cut. Your armor and dress shirt has been taken off and a quick glance around indicates you are in a tent. Your body is bandaged and you can see spots of red where your wounds lie. Your gaze goes to a person sitting a few feet away from your bed. A woman with her back turned to you and working something with her hands on a table. It seems to me midway when you take a glance outside of your tent. Your head feels woozy.

The only thing on your mind is the state of things after your duel with Zang Ba. You are unsure if you even won, though the last thing you remember is your opponent falling to the floor as well. You grimace slightly at your wounds and call out to the woman.

"The duel..." you manage to blurt out. "What happened? What is the current state of affairs?"

The woman turns around, a slight look of surprise on her face. She quickly rushes to your bedside with a small cup in her hand.

"Try not to speak," she says, not giving you the answer you desire. "Your wounds will open up if you move or exert too much energy. Here, we need to redress your bandages," she says as she places your body gently back and she begins unbandaging your wounds. You look down at your stomach to see a rather grisly wound.

"I need to know what happened," you state again. The woman begins applying a green paste to your wounds from the cup she was holding.

"I do not know much details of your fight," the woman responds with a shake of her head. "I was only called by Lord Tao Qian to tend to your wounds. I am just a physician; I do not know the circumstances of what transpired."

You look at the woman. She is young with soft eyes and light skin. Her hair is tied away to her side, likely as to not allow it to interfere with her treatment of you.

Actually, thinking with our dick in this period is advised, rather than thinking of marrying clans together. See Liu Bei's and SSX's marriage, she left the second he fucked Wu over on taking Liu Zhang's territory. Cao Cao and Lady Bian also had a good marriage as well.
>>

I'm all for marrying for love instead of politics, but this is just some nurse, really. Don't want to get tied down before we even have any major battles.

>>

And if you just want a camp follower she can wait till the grown ups are done with politics.
>>
>>244713
We're not famous yet though, or political marriage material. You have to wait until we can marry the dynasty waifus, for now we're just a humble bandit bandit.

You allow the woman to dress your wounds, but that is all the patience you have. You are more concerned with information than speaking with this lady.

"I thank you," you say. "But I think I am fine now. Please fetch me sirs Hao Xian and Yang Jing. I need their presence."

The nurse nods to you and takes a few steps back from your bed.

"I shall do so right away. But before I do I must inform you of course condition. The wound in your stomach is deep and will easily reopen if you participate in any strenuous activity. I would recommend at least two weeks of rest before you move about. I have made a few gauzes and medicine, please reapply them every morn. Eat three full meals a day and refrain from drinking wine. Do this and you should should recover by a month's time."

The nurse bows and removes herself from your presence. You stiffly remain in bed for your allies to arrive, a drop of sweat coming from your forehead as you try and withstand the pain of your wounds. It takes a while before Hao Xian and Yang Jing arrives.

"Boy, what a lucky sod you are," Yang Jing says with a tsk. "You were bloody a step away from death's door," he says as he grabs a stool and sits beside your bed. You can only return a small smile.

"I suppose to want to know what happened," Hao Xian says coming beside you as well. "Ease yourself of worries. Technically, you lost the duel as you were the first to fall down. But after your duel, Zang Ba has announced that his men will not longer take supplies from the villages and has followed Tao Qian's command. It seems you managed to convince the brute one way or another. Our troops are encamped near the city and Zang Ba's men have returned to defending the borders. Though I question your reckless actions when you are suppose to be leading our band."

Lu Bu only got his shit pushed in when Wang Yun pissed off a horde of Xiliangs, and then he got his shit pushed in again because he was up against THE goddamn Cao Cao. It was the ineptitude of allies and competence of enemies that ended him.

"How can I stand idly by as a man insults me and refuses to listen to words? I am a warrior by nature and as a man there are some risks I must take."

Hao Xian sighs and shakes his head.

"Think of the men under your command and the position you would place them in should you perish. You dueled a man to near death for a petty reason, and though the outcome has come somewhat in our favor, I do not think the risks were worth the effort. The villages here shall enjoy some of their food and wine in safe supply. But has it safeguarded them from the more clear and present dangers of the Yellow Scarves? And you may have very well alienated Zang Ba away from Tao Qian's service. It is no wonder he accused you of trying to usurp his position."

Hao Xian chastises you and speaks his mind clearly. He does not seem to necessarily agree with every decision you have made.

"Lay off the man," Yang Jing says interjecting with a wave of his hand. "We followed him in the first place because of his skill as a warrior. Don't tell me he's too good to be at the frontlines now because he commands a thousand men."

Hao Xian says nothing further on the issue, not wishing to further press the issue.

"In either case you must rest for two weeks. Yang Jing and I shall take care of the men and keep our supplies in check. We will keep you updated with the current state of affairs."

It seems you shall be bedridden for a time. You are unable to move about, but perhaps you can now focus on your studies. What do you brush upon for the next two weeks?

Without the ability to move about, you decide to brush up on the laws and governing books. You learn the Han laws and on governance, along the way learning some of the intricacies of politics. You catch up on the current state of affairs with the eunchs in power and why the Han has waned in power over time. (Pol +5)

Two weeks pass and you find your wounds starting to close up and your body less painful. Though you likely cannot participate in strenuous activity you finally move from your bed and get a breath of fresh air. Just as you recover, Tao Qian requests your presence and you go to see him. When you enter his office the old man rushes over to you and holds your hands.

“Zheng Li, are you okay? I heard your wounds were terrible and it pains me that you have suffered through so much. Zang Ba has listened to reason and no longer abuses his authority, but I am more concerned about you. I should not have allowed someone outside of your affairs to go through so much for our city.”

How do you reply? Tao Qian seems grateful, perhaps you can discreetly ask for a reward.

"Zheng Li, what will you do now? If you wish I would be glad to have you under my employ and I would even give you a rank. I could supply your men with necessary supplies in return for protecting my borders. Would you like to stay here in Xu province, or will you be going elsewhere?

"I thank you for your offer, but with Zang Ba protecting your borders, I do not think I am needed here in Xu," you reply with a bow. "I would take my men elsewhere I am needed. There are other areas full of chaos where the services of the Dawn Tiger are needed."

Tao Qian nods to you.

"Then let me give you a few sacks of grain and some wine to be on your way. You have aided me greatly, it is the least I can do."

You thank Tao Qian, and you both embrace one another before you leave. Though the city is wealthy and employment here seems promising, you cannot see yourself serving here for one reason or another. You return to your army.

Your band has grown 1000 men strong. Hao Xian and Yang Jing have trained the men for the past month and having received supplies from Tao Qian, your band are now fully equipped with iron swords, spears, and leather armor.

After having helped Tao Qian and Xu province, you begin to think about the situation at hand. While there are certainly corrupt officials in the government, there are still plenty of good officials like Tao Qian himself. It is the Yellow Scarves that are causing the most problems right now with the civil war. You think that it would be more befitting to join the Imperial forces now that you have a thousand strong army. Besides, you originally dreamed of expanding your clan and rising to the top classes. What better way to to give meritorious service to the Imperial forces?

You inform Hao Xian and Yang Jing of your intentions. Both nod and agree with you.

"The time may now be finally right," Hao Xian says. "Our forces are armed and we can finally make a difference."

"Let me fight in the vanguard and we will smite any enemy that oppose us," Yang Jing says with a laugh.

With the agreements made, you head over to the Imperial city of Luoyang to join the Han forces. It takes a week of travel and along the way you stay close to Han territory and avoid cities and villages that have been taken by the Scarves. You reach near the borders of Luoyang where a large Imperial force has gathered on the horizon. A force of small cavalry, half a thousand strong, march to meet you.

"Halt!" a middle aged man in silver polished armor says riding in front to meet you. "What force are you, and where do you come from? You hold no scarves but you also hold banners I do not recognize. Have you been sent by a lord to partake in our campaign to crush the rebels?"

I am Zheng Li, here with sirs Hao Xian and Yang Jing from Yu province. We have gathered what able men we can and gathered what weapons we could buy in order to fight against the rebels."

At your announcement the silver-armored man smiles and he takes off his plumed helmet. He heads over to you and shakes your hands affectionately.

"Good, good! To see honorable and just men ready to defend the Han. And with another thousand men to add to our forces. It bring my heart joy. I am Huangfu Song and I lead the main forces with General Zhu Jun. Come, let us get you registered and your men provisions.

You march together with General Huangfu Song and make your way to the main camp of the Imperial forces. You look around to see a force of ten thousand men. You can see a number of them are trained soldiers but another couple thousand may be recruits. The camp is abuzz with soldiers moving about and preparing to march.

"You have come at just the right time," Huangfu Song states. "We march and make a counteroffensive on the morrow. Do you have any questions?"

"How does the war go, General?" you ask. "I have heard some reports that... The Imperial forces may have been pushed back."

Huangfu Song sighs and shakes his head.

"What you hear is true," he replies. "And much to my dismay my own forces were defeated a north of the capital. The rebellion caught most of our forces unaware. It seems Zhang Jue had been planning this rebellion for years now and tens of thousands of soldiers marched out of their holdings in an instant. Government buildings taken down, officials executed, our commanderies taken..." he says with another sigh. "But we are not defeated yet. We have regathered our forces and reorganized our formations. We WILL defeated the rebels and bring back stability."

You shake your head in dismay.

"It is a shame we came to this situation in the first place. General Huangfu, what do you make of the current state of our government? The Scarves rebelled not without reason."

At this question Huangfu Song remains silent for a few seconds.

"Zheng Li, be careful with what you say," Huangfu Song responds. "Rebellions and bandits roam the land and any word that may seem treacherous may bring you trouble." He pauses again. "I will just say this: whatever the situation may be, it is our duty to faithfully serve the Son of Heaven. The Han has been here for several generations and both you and I owe a debt to our government."

After having studied the intricacies of politics and the current government, you realize that Huangfu Song is being careful with his words as to not bring any harm to himself. It does seem indicative that he also holds some dread towards the current corrupt government but does not wish to say it outright.

"And what about yourself General?" you ask. "What has given you the burden of leading the Imperial forces and what debt do you owe to the Han?"

"Hmmm, there is not much to say," Huangfu Song replies. "I joined the Imperial forces at a young age. I rose from rank from diligence and my need to constantly strive for the better. I put down a few rebellions and bandits here and there in my lifetime of service. And well, as the years passed by, I somehow found myself a general," he says with a small chuckle. "But enough on that," he says as you arrive at the main tent. "Let me see where I can send your forces and what area is in most need of help."

Huangfu Song looks over several reports and he rubs his beard, thinking and mulling over where best to place you. After a minute of deciding, he finally nods and looks at you.

"We have reports that General Lu Zhi is in need of some aid in northern Ji province. He is building defenses against the central line against the Yellow Scarves. General Zhu Jun shall eastward to meet with General Sun Jian and push the forces back there. I will lead our forces northwest and push the forces back at Bing province. Should you be able to hold off the rebels with General Lu Zhi, Generals Zhu Jun and I should be able to join with your forces after we defeat the rebels in our areas. After then the rebels shall surely be crushed."

You clasp your hands together and bow in one knee to Huangfu Song.

"Certainly. I will join my forces with General Lu Zhi and we shall give our lives in the defense of Ji. We will march as soon as the orders are given."

Huangfu Song nods and he seems pleased at your determination.

"I have taken a look at your force and it seems you lack a few horses under your command. I shall give you 300 horses in the fight against the rebels. It is the most I can spare in our limited resources."

You thank Huangfu Song and prepare your forces to leave northward.

The next day you are given 300 steeds as was promised by Huangfu Song and you put them under the command of your best fighters and yourself along with Hao Xian and Yang Jing. With news of your forces having joined the Imperial forces, the soldiers of the Dawn Tigers become more spirited and their morale goes high. Your forces travel through the Huang He river crossing where Imperial forces give you passage in their boats. Once disembarked you find yourself in Ji province and travel northwards through hills and rocky terrain. All the while your soldiers speak excitedly for the battle. Your wounds also recover from the week long travel.

On the morn you and your forces approach the city of Ye, the main central place of Ji province. On the distant you hear sounds of battle and gongs and your forces rush over to a small hill where they can get a better look.

Over on the distant you see Imperial forces, several thousand strong fighting against hordes of Yellow Scarves. Though the Imperial forces seem to be holding they steadily lose ground. You see the central banners of the Imperial formation and you can see the words "Lu Zhi" embedded on the cloth. It seems you've found the force you were to join with, and they are in need of help.

"Zheng Li, we must go to their aid at once!" Hao Xian says riding beside you. "What is your command?"

We must send a messenger to Lu Zhi as well tho, Hao Xian will be best for the role. First impressions and all that.
>>
>>249383
>>249368
Well, we should probably ask them first.
>>
>>249389
We know the capabilities of our own troops. And if we did dismount them, where, exactly, would we be keeping the 300 horses while we fight? Don't nitpick every detail, man.
>>
>>249368
Hey Arpeggio, how is this troop of 300 cavalry's MORALE faring what with their new unit makeup?
>>
>>249398
>We know the capabilities of our own troops.
We only know what Arpeggio tells us, so let's ask him about this.
>>
>>249368
>move your troops to the the side and attack from the flank

Attacking from the flank will likely route their forces the quickest and cause the most damage.

"Look, the flanks of the enemy are left wide open and they do not know our forces are here," you say pointing your sword over the left side of the enemy. "We shall use these hills as cover and circle around the force. We will strike swiftly from the flanks and force the rebels to route. Follow me!"

Your forces begin to move around the enemy army.

Your forces move silently behind the hills and you order your men to remain quiet or be punished under military law. Hao Xian is sent ahead to scout the way forward and provide the best route of path. Your troops remain completely hidden and in due time you find yourself at the side of the enemy with them completely unaware.

"Charge!" you yell and with loud roars your army surges forward. You lead a hundred riders to attack the center while Hao Xian attacks the right and Yang Jing the left with another hundred riders. The sound of thunderous hoofs and sudden shouts of your troops completely surprises the Yellow Scarves.

The rebels break apart in moments. The disorganized mob of peasant fighters scatter and find themselves trampled. The enemy formation is broken as the three of you make upheavals within the enemy ranks. The rest of your foot soldiers follow through and begin mopping up the enemy forces disarrayed from your charge. Your blade cuts left and right, striking down several enemies unfortunate enough to cross your paths.

"Enemy general! Halt, I am Hao Xian of Yu! Surrender now or be struck down!" you hear your ally yell.

"Away with you bastard! I, Bian Xi shall carve in your skull!"

You see the two of them meet in battle. Hao Xian fights with a twirl of his blade against the enemy general Bian Xi who holds a mace.

"I am Yang Jing and I am here for your head! Die rabble scum!" you hear your other ally yell as he attacks another enemy general with his axe. The enemy general, a bald man, yelps in fright but draws his blade to meet Yang Jing.

You trust in the ability of your allies and with a few hundred of your troops you opt to push back the rebels and make a path towards Lu Zhi. You cut down several more rebels and with your men by your side you begin forcing your way through the rebel forces. Several times enemy troops make an attack at you but their poor weapons only scratch off your armor.

Your detachment reaches the Imperial forces. You ride towards your allies and with sword raised in the air and your horse standing top you yell out words of encouragement.

"We are the Dawn Tigers, here to aid General Lu Zhi from General Huangfu Song!" you tell out.

At the sight of you and your forces the troops under Lu Zhi begin to cheer and shout

"Reinforcements from the capital!"
"Our allies are here, push the rebels back!"
"There is still glory to be won men! Go!"

With your troops met up with the Imperial soldiers, the lot of you make a charge against the remainders of the enemy. The rebels stand no chance and begin to flee from the combined might of your forces. Many rebels fall and the ground gets littered with Yellow Scarf soldiers.

You see the enemy generals and the remainder of their men retreat as well. You see the enemy general Bian Xi wounded on the solder and making a hasty retreat. Your men and the Imperial soldiers pursue and mop up what retreating soldiers you can find.

The battle is over and you are victorious. Cheers ring out across the battlefield.

As you have left Hao Xian and Yang Jing to fend for themselves, you slightly worry for their well-being and quickly make your way to them. You find the two of them speaking on horseback, completely fine.

"How did the battle fare, brothers?" you ask coming beside them. "What of the enemy generals?"

"Bah, the bald-headed coward I fought fled immediately," Yang Jing says with a scoff. "What a coward. I heard his name was Pei Yuan or whatever. I only got a few swings at him before he started fleeing like a dog and his soldiers stopped me from pursuing."

"I managed to wound the enemy general Bian Xi after some ten bouts," Hao Xian says. "But unfortunately he fled before I could kill or capture him. There were too many troops blocking his path of retreat."

"I am simply glad to see both of you are well," you tell them both. "Our victory here was one only by your efforts and our men."

The three of you chatter and congratulate on a job well done. Soon enough the Imperial forces arrive and an elderly man with gray beard and white in his hair approaches. You go to meet Lu Zhi.

"Hail," Lu Zhi with a hand in mid-air. "You have aided us greatly. Tell me your name Sir."

"I am Zheng Li, and we are volunteer forces sent by General Huangfu Song to aid you," you say with a bow. "We are here to reinforce your army and follow your command. Together with my allies Hao Xian and Yang Jing we aim to drive the rebels back and restore order."

"Your aid could not have come at a better time," Lu Zhi says returning a bow politely. While in light armor, you can tell Lu Zhi may not be the most able fighter and can only lead men. "Quickly, I shall prepare a banquet in honor of our victory with you as guests of honor."
