Welcome to the world of Pokemon! Last time, you nicknamed your Pokemon with help from your mom.

You are currently voting on what to do with the camera crews at your front door.

You decide to…
>Go out the front. End the chase.
>Go out the back. Probably the safest route.
>Go through the secret tunnel. It was built for this reason, despite the traps.
>Do something else.
>>

“I think I’ll go through the front door,” you say out loud. Your mom wears a skeptical look on her face but doesn’t say anything. She’ll let you decide what you think is best. After you’re done eating, you get up, ready to face the crowd. “I’m ready,” you say, more to pump yourself up than anything else.

“Not in those clothes you’re not,” your mom says, her expression one of bemusement. You look down at yourself and realize you’re still wearing yesterday’s outfit. Right.

You head upstairs, discard your clothes, and take a quick shower. As you get out, you wipe away some of the layer of steam from the mirror. Unkempt chestnut colored hair and sky-blue eyes stare back at you. You try to flex but there’s barely any muscle there. You hope this journey will fix that and the slight chub of your belly. You briefly consider getting a haircut, but why do that when you can just wear a cap?

Your choice is between the classic cap, worn by the Kanto champion, and the other cap you bought for its ironic value: “Make the Chante Region great again.” The politician who made these caps lost a few years back, but you think there was a rumor that he was making a resurgence. You shrug and decide to wear the classic cap. Best not to give the media something else to talk about.

With that done, you put on your poketch, place your pokegear in your pocket, and grab your bag. You head downstairs and retrieve your Pokemon in their pokeballs. You don’t want to get separated from them when you try to wade through the crowd. You steel your resolve then open the front door.

Immediately you’re hounded by newscasters. Microphones are shoved to your face, and bright lights blind you. There’s a torrent of questions headed your way. “Alex! Can you tell us just who you are? What is your relationship with the heroes? Who’s your favorite? What about your favorite Pokemon? Is there a reason you didn’t use your real name when taking your exam? How did you do? What Pokemon do you currently have on you? Are you really in a gay relationship with Rogers? Just what is your specialty? Who chose your clothes? What do you make of the recent rumors about Team Invictus rising again?”

You feel overwhelmed, but you know you can get through this.

What do you say/do?
>>
>>273398
Go out the front.

We should see if we can tutor Vulcan to learn like Flame Charge, or maybe Flare Blitz or something like that when he evolves to Aggron.
>>
>>273438
Say hey and ignore all of their questions.
>>
>>273438
Just calmly say Hi and keep walking through the crowd.
>>
>>273438
Don't say anything, force your way out.
>>
>>273438
Smile.
In order, I am myself, I bumped into them, don't have a favorite hero, my favorite Pokemon are mine, for fun, I passed, my Larvitar Aron and Munchlax, no like girls he just took my out for a meal and don't think he picked up on that restaurant's reputation, battling, I did, and do you think a 16 year old would know that? Ask an expert. Now no more questions please I have things to do, new trainer and all.
>>
>>273508
Answering the questions doesn't preserve that air of mystique we have!
>>
>>273514
I think we try to do the silent hero thing for the press.
>>
>>273514

>>273446
>>273450
>>273492
You decide to handle this situation the best way you know how – by being yourself. That is to say, you don’t actually confront the problem directly. Not yet.

You wave to the crowd and bellow a “Good morning, guys!” before walking forward through the crowd. You try your best to look unfazed, like a crowd of reporters is just an everyday thing. They keep asking you questions but you ignore them and get across your front yard and into the sidewalk. Shouldn’t they stay out? It’s gated for a reason. You shrug internally.

Before you get too far, a determined Asian lady steps into your path. She keeps in sync with you, barring your path. When you try to step left, she steps left. Ditto when you try to step right.

“Could you please just answer one question?” She asks. You consider pushing her aside, but she did ask nicely.

>”Okay, just one question.”
>”Please step aside.”
>Just push her out of the way and keep walking.
>Write-in
>>
>>273540
>>”Okay, just one question
>Because you were moderately polite about it.
>>
>>273540
>Depends on the question.
>>
>>273540
>>Write-in

Then when she starts to ask something, hold up our hand and inform her that she's already asked one question which we politely answered.

You stop, briefly contemplating her request. Perhaps if you show the media that you respond well to kindness, they’ll be more polite in their interactions? Or you could be showing them an inch and they’ll start asking for miles of land. That’s probably how that saying goes.

“Alright,” you say, much to the reporter’s relief. “It really depends on the question though.” She nods her head.

“Thank you,” she says. “I think our viewers back home would really like to know, who are you?” Huh, you really weren’t expecting such a philosophical question this early in the morning. You take a quick peek at your poketch. 12:47. A little past noon. Okay, so not quite the morning, but still.

>What do you say to that?

You look at her curiously. “Shouldn’t you guys already know who I am?” You briefly contemplate naming some fictional character and trying to get some laughs, but nah. You need to play this seriously. You turn to face the camera. “My name is Alexander Greyson, and I’m just a Pokemon trainer.” You hope you look cool. “No further questions,” you quickly add as you walk away.

You would’ve preferred running, but you need to play this cool. You walk as calmly as you can, your heart thumping wildly in your chest. It seems that your answer was enough to satisfy them. For now. You decide to briefly look back and the camera crew is still there, but it looks like they’re talking to the newscasters back in the station rather than pay you more attention. The reprieve is probably momentary though, so you decide to quicken your pace and keep walking.

There’s one white van following you, but you decide to ignore it for now. It looks like you have a big day ahead of you.

You decide to…
>Head to a private place and train your pokemon.
>Look for a devon corp store and buy a cheap pokedex.
>Head to the meeting place early from that mysterious number.
>Head to the university to try to sign up as a Professor’s assistant.

You briefly consider going to the university to try to swindle- you mean legally obtain an advanced Pokedex, but you could always do that later. For now, you decide to look for a Devon Corp store to buy a cheap Pokedex. Your pokemon knowledge is severely lacking, so you’ll need the edge when you finally decide to start your adventure.

As you start to make your way out of the neighborhood, you notice more and more people out and about. You didn’t really realize it until now, but the weather is pleasant right now. Slightly warm but with a cool, gently breeze. A chick runs by with a Herdier at her side. As you walk you contemplate just how trainers identify each other. Do they just instinctively know by meeting each other’s eyes? If so, should you avoid looking into people’s eyes to avoid unnecessary battles or should you just battle everyone you see?

You lightly slap yourself before hoping no one saw. It’s time to focus on your objective: finding a Pokedex. You walk around for a while until you decide to just to the Pokemon Center you took your exam at. It’s the closest one. As you head there, you see it. The store. It has a shiny Devon Corp logo on top.

You enter the store and feel the chill of AC. There’s a lot of technological devices up for sale. You notice newer versions of the Pokegear up, and you see an Omnivice on a pedestal. It’s the latest craze, even beating the Holo Caster in popularity.

You step up to the counter and a cute cashier girl asks you to state your business. She does so with a smile though, so it isn’t off-putting. “Yeah, I’d like to purchase a Pokedex,” you say.

“That’ll cost 1500 poke for a basic model,” she says. Oh. You take out your trainer card. You only have 500 poke left. “Wait, is that a trainer card?” She asks. You nod your head. “Oh. With trainer discount, the basic model is actually 500 poke. We have better models, though they’re a bit pricier, even with the discount.”

Well, it turns out you have just enough to purchase it, but that means you won’t have any money left.

You…
>Decide to purchase it anyways.
>Tell her thank you but you don’t have enough money at the moment.
>Do something else.
>>
>>273769
Ask if the discount is once only of if it can be applied later if we need an upgraded pokedex.
If once
Nope out
If not get it
>>
>>273769

>>
>>273769
>>Decide to purchase it anyways.
DO IIIIIIIIT
we can earn more money by winning trainer battles. we did choose battling as our speciality, plus it adds genuine incentive to become as strong as fuck.

(for a real life example of something similair; at age 17 Elon Musk lived on $1/day to prove to himself he could become an entrepeneur: yes I am saying we become a battle-enetrepeneur, of sorts)

>>273783
fairly sure the trainer's card, gives us a permanent-passive discount
>>
>>273783
>>273785
>>273786
“Quick question,” you say. “Does this discount only apply once or is it an ongoing thing?”

The cashier girl chuckles a little. It’s pretty cute. “You must be a new trainer. No, all trainers get a permanent discount at certain stores. It’s a fairly recent law since there aren’t as many trainers getting registered lately.” Well that sounds pretty convenient.

You look down at your card. If you buy this Pokedex now, you won’t have any money left. On the other hand, that’s good incentive. You shrug. You came in here to get that Pokedex, so you’re going to get it. “Then yeah, I’ll purchase the basic model. Can you tell me what features it includes?”

“Certainly,” she says as she goes through the motions of swiping your card through the machine. “The basic model will help you identify every Pokemon it sees as well as their type. If caught, you’ll get a brief description of the Pokemon by having the Pokedex analyze the pokeball you used to catch that Pokemon. The newly caught Pokemon doesn’t even need to be inside the pokeball. It’s all really convenient stuff.” Handy.

You thank her as you leave the store. With your new pokedex in pocket, every battle should be easier from now on.

With that taken care of, you decide to…
>Head out to the meeting place early. Scope it out.
>Go train your pokemon somewhere private.
>Head to the university anyways. Maybe a professor there will upgrade your Pokedex even further?
>Write in

You feel the weight of the pokeballs on your belt. You’ve only known these guys for a day, but it’s time to see what they’re really capable of. You notice that white van from earlier parked across the street. Hmm. There’s no way it could be the same one, could it?

You begin walking down the street casually, as if you have a particular destination in mind. You actually do, but that’s not the point. You wait at an intersection to cross the street and you casually glance over. Yup, that white van is following you. You smile to yourself. Shaking this guy off should be relatively easy in this city. It’s practically your backyard. You keep walking, though you slow down your pace. This fucker is probably holding up traffic. You casually hold up your phone, like you’re going to take a picture of yourself, using it as a makeshift mirror. The white van decided to park somewhat behind you. These guys must be experts.

You decide to casually enter an alleyway, and when you’re sure that the white van can’t see you from where they are at, you begin to hightail it out of there. You quickly cross that alleyway to the street parallel from the one you were just walking on. Just before you turn to continue on your way, you see the white van on the other side. They saw you. They know you know they know you’re there. Well fuck. You see the white van move forward rapidly. It looks like they intend to chase you. And you kind of want them to?

(1/2)
>>
You quickly run across the street to get to the next alleyway. Some cars honk at you but thankfully, none of them hit you. Just as you get to the entrance of this other alleyway, you see the same white van in a perpendicular street. The chase is still on. You continue running in this manner for a few more blocks but the van keeps pace. You briefly consider having Gojira make potholes but that would affect every driver thereafter, and besides, there are laws against using Pokemon to destroy city property. Thankfully, the buildings around here are tightly packed together.

You quickly climb from a raised wall to a bathhouse to the roof of a low office building, sending Pidgey and some other kind of bird pokemon flying away. You consider using your Pokedex to identify them but reconsider. Aren’t you still technically being chased? You jump and climb higher and higher, and you see the van still driving around. Thankfully the driver didn’t see you do some cool as heck parkour tricks. You get to the destination you had in mind. In between all these buildings is a little sanctuary hidden from public view.

There’s a small pond here, some trees and grass. All of it is surrounded by these buildings. You climb down and sit at one of the two benches here. This is a private place, and you like to come here sometimes to think. Today though, you came to train.

You…

You release all three of your Pokemon, and they look around curiously. You wonder if being sent out to a new environment is always disorienting or if they eventually get used to it. Gojira quickly hides behind you, cautiously looking around while Vulcan runs around here and there, sniffing the grass and trees. Robin, for her part, just sits down under the shade of a tree and relaxes. She strikes you as very calm.

You look from Gojira to Vulcan to Robin. You’re already pretty familiar with Gojira and more or less what he’s capable of, and thanks to mom you know a little bit more about Vulcan. But Robin is still a mystery to you. You decide that knowledge is the most important factor right now. To that effect, you start with Vulcan.

You whistle then call out for Vulcan to come to you. He does so with a smile on his face. “Alright buddy,” you say, crouching down to get closer to his level. “We need to find out what other moves you know. Let’s go with what you do know.” You quickly order a headbutt, then harden. Those moves are pretty good. Next you order a dragon rush. A purple aura surrounds Vulcan as it dashes forward. It strikes one of the trees and leaves a dent in the bark. Impressive. Now, what other moves would an Aron know? Out of instinct, you call for a Mud-Slap, and Aron does so. Nice. Vulcan starts panting. Looks like Dragon Rush is a tiring move. You tell him to rest and he flops on the floor immediately.

Next you turn to the unknown quantity. Robin. “Hey Robin, come over here please,” you say, but Robin only opens one eyelid before closing it again. You roll your eyes and walk to her. Gojira decides to inspect Vulcan to make sure he’s okay. At least those two like each other.

>>
>>273974
“Hey,” you say, as you crouch next to Robin. “Since I’m your new trainer, it’s important to me that I know what moves you know.” Robin doesn’t respond much to that. Maybe you’ll need a different strategy. You look around but not much comes to mind. Not until you look up, something you know people don’t do as much as they should. You see a shiny red apple dangling from the tree. You try to suppress a grin.

“Oh, that’s too bad,” you say, standing up. “If only I had help getting that nice delicious apple from that tree.” Robin’s ears perk up and she stands next to you. “Oh but who should I pick?” You say. Robin is holding her hands out like a nerd trying to answer their favorite teacher’s question. “It’s too bad Vulcan can’t headbutt that tree,” you say, pointing to the one Robin was previously resting under.

She takes that as her cue to run at it. It isn’t quite like the headbutt Vulcan would do. Instead of using her head, Robin hits the tree with her shoulder. Looks like a tackle. That’s one move down. “Looks like that’s not enough,” you tell her. “Maybe a different move?” She tries curling up in a ball, but you don’t see much difference except her fur looks sleeker. Perhaps that raised her defense. She curled into a ball… Defense curl! She begins sniffing around and there’s a glint to her eye. Odor Sleuth?

“I’m afraid that’s still not enough,” you tell her, some mock in your voice. She looks at you with determination in her eyes. You see her point a finger at the tree. Finally, that weird finger wiggle attack. Instead of glowing white though, a blue beam shoots out at the tree branch, freezing it. You step back in surprise, but the branch falls off and the apple lands on Robin’s head. She nonchalantly picks it up to munch on it. Well would you look at that! Robin knows ice beam.

With that done, you could train their stats now. You could try teaching them battle commands. They help discipline your Pokemon, giving them goals to do in battle, like protecting an objective or to try to land a burn instead of trying to do too much damage. Or you could stop training. It’s already 2:01.

You want to…

This has been a pretty good training session, but you know you can push them a little more. “Alright guys, it’s time to train your bodies,” you say. You’re about to say more when you stop yourself. Your specialty was never in training. You’re not exactly sure how to go about this. Maybe you can have them attack each other? Or you can have them lift heavy rocks? Maybe they should run around. Or – or they can keep practicing their moves. No wait. That’s not going to help; that would only affect those moves.

>What training method do you propose?

Alright, you decide to have them run around the courtyard while carrying heavy rocks. You even set up a few rocks that they have to jump over. Not content to just oversee though, you decide to participate and show your Pokemon how it’s done. After you show them how it’s done, you run alongside them. A song even plays in your head, motivating you to keep going. Gojira stays in the front, somehow being the fastest member in your party, followed by Vulcan, followed by you, with Robin trailing behind. Maybe you should catch a fast pokemon next?

You’re not sure how effective the training is, but you think there’s definite progress. Your pokemon look pretty tired though. “Hey, you all did good,” you say, trying to keep morale up. You’re breathing pretty hard too though.

You give each of your pokemon a high five. Gojira and Vulcan do so with excitement, but Robin only barely raises her hand up to meet yours. You suppose she didn’t train too much with her other trainer. “It’s alright Robin, we’re done for the day.” She seems relieved by that statement. You’re about to recall all three when you hear a chuckle behind you.

A blonde girl around your age steps out of the building’s shadow. “That was a pretty good training attempt, but you might want an expert’s help if you plan on training your pokemon that way.” Her green eyes meet yours, and you just know she’s a trainer. You look around but as far as you’re aware, you’re both the only trainers here. Is she going to challenge you to a battle? Your pokemon are exhausted. You might have to say yes though, or your reputation could be tarnished.

“Y’know,” she says, a purr to her voice. “You’re actually pretty hard to track down, even with half the city looking for you.” Wait what?

“What do you mean?” You ask, eyes darting around your environment. You could jump across the pond and try to go through one of these buildings to get away if you have to. Though it is kind of a pain that she blocks the easiest way to get in and out of this sanctuary. You could climb the buildings but that’ll leave you open to getting backstabbed. No. You need to keep her talking. See what she wants.

“The news stations put up a reward. They want to get whatever information they can out of you,” she says.

“And you?” You ask. “What do you want?”

“It’s simple,” she says, a glint in her eyes. “I want to join your Team.”

“M-my what?” You ask. You can’t keep the surprise out of your voice.

“Your Rescue Team,” she says, bowing her head in respect. “If a hero recognizes you enough to want to date you, then you obviously have talent. I want to work with you.” You honestly weren’t expecting this but it makes sense. Whoever seeks you out either wants information, a battle, or you as an ally. “I’m a trainer, capital T, Trainer. I train Pokemon.”

we have a fairly slow team, so I suggest prioritising speed. basically group running. with us riding a bike as optional, but tbqh I'd prefer running with the group; it's what Blue did in the pokemanga -- as it creates a stronger bond of camaraderie (with the added bonus of us getting in shape too)

You need more information before you decide anything. But first. “We’re not dating,” you say, some irritation in your voice.

“Of course, we aren’t,” she says. “I wish I could only be so lucky, but you’re taken.” You blush a little at that. She’s sly. Cute even.

“No. I’m not dating Rogers,” you say. Um, what to say next. “I don’t think he realized what kind of reputation that place has.”

“Oh, well… Um,” she says, probably equally as flustered. You notice her blushing and you start to blush more. What the fuck is going on? You turn around and take a few quick breaths. You notice your pokemon looking up at you curiously, even Robin. She winks at you, and you just find that so strange you want to laugh. Is she saying something about that girl. Um, actually. “Hey, what’s your name?” You turn around and ask her.

“It’s Katie,” she says. At least she isn’t blushing anymore.

“So tell me Katie,” you say. “Why exactly do you want to join me? And tell me the truth, I’ll know if you’re lying.” That may or may not be true, but that’s probably what Detective Jacques would say.

“Okay,” she says, taking a deep breath. “The truth is that I want to get famous, and the best way to do it is to ride the coattails of your fame. Y’see, I’m a bit of a news aficionado, so I can help you maintain your image, whatever you decide that is.” Oh, so she’s just using you. It looks like she read your mind because she says, “And the reason I want to be famous is for my grandfather. The Pokemon League Association doesn’t recognize move tutoring as a legitimate trainer specialty, and I’m hoping that if I get famous I can start a movement and change that. I – uh – I’m only a B-ranked trainer, but that’s only because they refused to acknowledge my specialty! So, uh, will you have me?”

You’re not gonna lie; it’s a very tempting offer. You’re going to need to think on it. “Believe or not, I’ve barely gotten my trainer license,” you say, noting the surprise on her face. “But I need time to think on this. Could I get your number?”

“Sure!” She says, excitement radiates off her. She approaches you and you do your best to not run away. You’ve never really been approached by such a cute girl before. And now you’re getting her number. You try not to think about that as you type the digits down on your contacts list. “So when do you think you’ll contact me?” She sounds nervous.

You think to the mystery meeting you have in less than an hour. “By tomorrow,” you tell her. She nods her head.

“Hey, is it okay if I walk with you? I’m actually new to the city.” She says. “Also, I’ve only been a trainer for three months, so I’m also kind of a newbie too.” That’s good to know though.

You hear a beep from your pokegear and you see that you have a new message. You check your phone and see that your neighbor has challenged you to a battle. You could accept and go now, but it’ll take some time. On the other hand, the mystery message said they’ll be there at 6.

“Sorry Katie, but I need some time alone right now,” you say. She nods your head, and you appreciate her lack of being offended. “But I wouldn’t mind someone walking with me to the Pokemon Center though.” Her smile is contagious and you feel the impulse to hold her hand. That’s probably a bad idea though, so you don’t do that.

“Also, you might want to change,” Katie says. She takes out her Omnivice (you’re totally not jealous), and she shows you a picture of you with your current clothes. “There’s people currently looking for you, so y’know.” You agree. You withdraw your pokemon and head into the building. You find the bathroom and put on your change of clothes. When you get out, Katie takes your hat and gives you a different one. She also hands you sunglasses. “That should help,” she says.

>>274568
You both walk to the pokemon center and you there are more people on the streets. No one seems to be paying attention to just another couple, especially because Katie informed you to look around as if you’re searching for somebody. It works, since you happen to get to the Pokemon Center in one piece.

When you get inside, Katie says, “Do your business and I’ll help you from over there.” She points at the free camera phones and heads over there. You go up to the nurse and notice that Robert isn’t around. Oh well. The nurse takes your Pokemon, but that requires you to show her your trainer card.

She winks at you. “I don’t know anything,” she says. “But it will take 15 minutes to get them to full health.” You thank her and decide to sit on a couch. A quick text message informs the mystery messenger that you’ll be a little late but you will show up. You also text your neighbor, telling him that you’re going to have to take a rain check on that battle.

The fifteen minutes goes by quickly and you’re happy to have your pokemon on your belt, at your side. Katie goes up to you and says, “Alright, I threw them off your scent. Now’s your chance to leave.”

“Thanks! And you?” You ask.

“I’ll be fine. There’s actually a friend of my grandpa’s I wanted to visit.” She heads out. You do the same.

It doesn’t take long to get to the playground. You feel right away that something is wrong. You look around then it hits you. There’s no one here. There’s no kids playing in the playground, no pokemon playing with them, and no parents ignoring their kids. You look around nervously.

“So you’re finally here,” a feminine voice says. You turn to face her, but it isn’t the grunt you gave your number to.

“Who are you?” You ask, a feeling of apprehension overcoming you. Is this person an enemy.

“My name is Kori,” she says. There’s something different about her.

You can feel her staring at you. Stare back?

You don’t stare back; your paranoia senses tingling. You have to admit that this whole thing is a bit intense. You feel a familiar feeling; Kori is definitely a trainer. It’s not the same feeling as the one Katie gave though. Kori is more confident, probably stronger, yet familiar.

“How do you know me?” You ask.

“The same way you know me,” she says. “Except I had the grace to stay away from the news crews.”

“What do you mean?” You ask. Her mysterious bullshit is frankly a little annoying. You wonder if that’s how the news outlet stations feel about you.

“The day you finished your exam, two students walked out of there with S-rank trainer cards,” she says. Oh wait. That’s why she looks familiar. She was the other student that day!

“And you got the best rank too?” You ask. She throws something at you and you barely catch it. It’s a piece of cloth? You open it up and find her trainer card. Yeah, she’s also an S-rank novice trainer. You walk up to her and give her card back. “And why did you call me here?”

“I wanted to join your team,” she says. Um,

What’s with people asking to join you? You never thought you’d be so popular, and on your first day as a trainer too. “Look, I need to know more about you. As it is, we know nothing about each other.”

“Your name is Alex Greyson and you chose to specialize in battling. I can tell you’re feeling overwhelmed since it’s your first day as a trainer and you’ve been doing nothing but running around. I know people everywhere are looking for you, so I made sure no one entered this area. I know you like detectives and I know you fought with the heroes. You also don’t strike me as Roger’s type but I won’t comment on your sexuality. It’s probably fluid.”

“I – uh – what? Okay. Well I don’t know anything about you.” How the fuck does she know all that? Is she psychic? What the fuck was that about your sexuality?

“I chose to specialize in catching,” she says. “I believe that at the same time you earned your rank, something caused the legendary protector of the mountain to go on a rampage. I managed to hold it in a ball for 3 seconds, though I wasn’t able to catch it. Somehow though, I was able to calm it down enough for its rampage to end.” She didn’t blink an eye, as if that was just an everyday kind of thing to do.

“And why do you want to join me? You seem very skilled yourself.”

“If we combine our skills, we’ll quickly rise through the ranks. No one will be able to stop us.” She has a point, you think. Though this lady strikes you as very blunt.

“You’re doing this for power?” You ask. You can’t seem to get a good feel for her.

“In a way. I think that you can teach me things about battling and I can teach you things about catching.” Interesting. Plus, you wouldn’t mind her watching your back.

“And how many Pokemon do you have?” You ask.

“I caught 6 pokemon this morning,” she says. “So 6.”

You take a moment to think about it. Having another S-rank novice trainer would be very helpful. Kori is obviously very perceptive, and you feel like the two of you have some kind of understanding.

“Before I accept, I just want to let you know that Rogers and I did not go on a date? Why does everyone keep assuming?”

Kori looks at you in surprise. “Have you not been watching TV? It’s all over the news. Neither you nor Rogers has yet to refute it.” She pauses. “So is that a yes?”

“I just need to test you first,” you say. You’ll decide on…

You think it about it for a second. You need to make sure Kori can hold her own before you say anything. Her ability to catch a variety of ‘mons means nothing if she can’t properly defend herself, especially if you happen to run into Team Invictus again.

She did say she fought off a legendary, so this ought to be good. You briefly consider facing her whole team, but decide against it.

“Let’s try a 3-v-3. I need to know what you’re capable of, but don’t forget that this is just a practice battle. More of a mutual training session.” She nods her head and picks a Pokeball.

You take out Vulcan at the same time she sends out a quadruped with gray fur and a black face and paws. You take out your Pokedex and it calls it a Poochyena and tells you it’s a dark type. I'll say this for the sake of battle strats, but I'm not sure what we as a trainer are aware of.

Two out of our three pokemon are immune to sandstorm damage and could use it to our advantage for the time it's up.

Larvitar's our ol' faithful but the only type resistance he has that Aron doesn't is fire. In return, he's weak to quite a few types. Dragon Dance turns him into his namesake, provided he has time to get jiggy.

Aron is resistant to most things and he has great defense, so he's a good 'mon to send out to scout her moves. He's slow as balls though, so hitting our opponent becomes an issue.

If she's got a ground or water pokemon out, munchlax is our boy. He's also got some nice special defense if we need to bring him out to take a hit.

“Mud Slap, quick!” You order. Unfortunately this Poochyena is faster than you are. Kori orders a Fire Fang, and you see fire coming out of Poochyena’s mouth. That – that can’t be natural, can it?

It moves from left to right as Vulcan gets its paws in the ground. The fire fang lands and you hear a squeak from the little Aron. It retaliates with a Mud Slap. The mud hits its target and you see the Poochyena close its eyes instinctively. You’re pretty sure it will have trouble hitting you in the future.

Now you order Vulcan to…
>Headbutt, deal some real damage now.

Kori looks like she’s struggling. “Use Odor Sleuth!” She orders. Her Poochyena sniffs around then turns to face Vulcan. Vulcan moves to the right but Poochyena follows Vulcan’s direction with his nose. That’s pretty brilliant, you think.

“Well if it still knows where we’re at, try using Headbutt,” you order. Vulcan gleefully rushes forward.

“Dodge it!” She orders. Her Poochyena leaps back instinctually and you see Vulcan move his head up as if Headbutt is complete but it keeps running and lands the hit. You can tell it wasn’t as strong as it should’ve been, but that’s fine. Her Poochyena pants.

You order Vulcan to…

“This is your chance, Vulcan. Finish it with another headbutt!” Your Aron charges forward again. The look on Kori’s face tells you that she knows she’s finished.

“Use Sand Attack!” She orders. It’s a last ditch effort but you find that it does little to stop your pokemon from bulldozing her. It rushes forward and hits. The sand attack obscured both your views of the battle, but when the dust settles, her Poochyena is fainted.

She retrieves it. Then sends out a small, round, orange mouse-like Pokemon. You take out your Pokedex and it forms you that that’s a Dedenne.

Vulcan had sand in its eyes. So it won’t be able to be as accurate.

You order him to…
>Headbutt, start out with good damage.
>Harden, so her attacks don’t do as much damage.
>Dragon Rush, scare her with your power.
>Mud Slap, extra annoyance and super effective.

“Come back, Aron!” You return it and send out Gojira.

Kori wasn’t expecting that, since she ordered a nuzzle from her pokemon. The tiny orange mouse Pokemon goes towards your Larvitar and puts its cheeks all over it.

Gojira looks back at you in confusion.

You order him to…

Time to end this quickly, you think. “Larvitar, Dig!” You order. Oh shit. “I mean Gojira dig!” The green reptilian listened to your orders despite your momentary lapse in judgement.

You can tell Kori is out of her element here. “C-come back, Dedenne!” She calls, retrieving her Pokemon. “Go Growlithe!” You see her send out a quadruped, canine Pokemon with orange fur and black stripes. You already know what that Pokemon is. You’ve always wanted one.

You wonder why she would send it out since Dig is supereffective against fire types. It’ll take another turn for Gojira to attack since it’s still setting up tunnels underneath the dirt. What’s her strategy?

“Growlithe, quick use dig!” It does so and pretty quickly too. You gasp in surprise and that seems to lend her confidence. You can only hope Gojira manages to get out in time.

Gojira probably can’t take another hit.

You order it to…
>Bite, go for the flinch.

“Sandstorm!” You call out at the same time Kori orders an, “Ember!”

>>275889
This is a clash of wills and Gojira can feels yours. You’re not going to lose so easily. Gojira stomps on the ground angrily and the resulting rise of sand eats up the ember before it can do anything. As the sandstorm grows it power, you start to feel it on your skin. Like a lot of little needles pinpricking you everywhere your skin is exposed. You close your eyes and cover your nose and mouth. The sand threatens to get in everywhere.

Since when was it this strong?

You can’t even see and neither can Kori probably. This will be good.

You’re glad this sandstorm is so powerful. “Use bite,” you order. You’re not sure if you were heard through the sandstorm. You hear Kori yell something, but you can’t really tell what it is.

A yelp tells you that Bite connected, and you hear Kori say something in frustration. Perhaps the Growlithe flinched. Looks like this battle is going to turn around.

(It looks like we're going with dragon dance. Sorry sandstorm guys.)

You’re honestly not sure what Kori’s strategy is, and that’s exhilarating. Predicting the opponent’s actions and trying to plan ahead. It’s such a rush. You feel so connected to your pokemon and you sincerely hope she does too.

“Gojira, use dragon dance!” You call out. You can’t really see anything for the few moments you open your eyes before the sand forces you to close them. You put goggles on your list of things to get. You also don’t hear any commotion in the sand. Did Gojira dodge her move or is she using dig?

What do you tell Gojira to do?

Kori probably used dig. No. She definitely used dig. Wait. Did she? No she probably did. “Gojira, counter her dig with dig!” You call out. Again, you’re not sure whether your voice reached or not, but you think you hear a gasp from her direction.

Ha. That probably means you got this in the bag. Another explosion of sand rocks the ground, but you honestly can’t see much from where you’re at. You flinch and cover your face as a wave of sand hits you. When you shake the sand off and look around, you see both Gojira and Kori’s Growlithe fainted, with a hole in the middle of the playground. Uh-oh. Isn’t this officially city property?

You recall Gojira as Kori recalls Growlithe.

“Hey, can we end the battle already?” She calls out. “I only have one Pokemon left and I’m pretty sure I can’t win.” Robin still hasn’t had an opportunity to fight but she’s right. She already proved she can handle herself.

You…

Though that battle was pretty short, you actually feel kind of tired? “I think you’re right,” you say. You see Kori sigh in relief. “But man, that was pretty fun! There were a few times where I honestly thought you had me,” you say excitedly.

“I had fun too,” she says. “I never thought to switch Pokemon in battle like that. My main strategy is to spam status effects and whittle the opponent’s health. I’m not used to your aggressive style of battle.” She looks at you contemplatively, and you feel like she can look through you.

“I wouldn’t say it’s that aggressive,” you say.

Silence descends around you both. “So,” Kori says, “Am I in?”

You laugh. It’s hearty. And loud.

Kori doesn’t respond. “Of course you’re in,” you say. “You were great!”

You smile and cheer and she lets down her guard and smiles back. “Oh man, you have to tell me where you found that Growlithe!” You say, excitedly.

“Of course,” she says. “That can come later though. For now I would like to rest and find a healer.”

“Smart and pragmatic,” you say. “I’m actually really glad you’re on my team.” You think about that girl from before, Katie. “Hey, there was actually another person who wanted to join my team, but I wanted to see what this mystery meeting was about first. You wouldn’t mind if she joined, would you?”

“I would let you lead the team,” Kori says. “If you feel she would be a great asset to us, then I won’t veto your decision.” Now you just need to make a decision on whether you want Katie to join or not.

“By the way, how did you end up getting my number anyways,” you ask. Now that you think about it, you’d hate for that to be common knowledge. Wasn’t there still half a city of people looking for you?

“Oh, the chatty male nurse told me it. I’m not sure how he got the number himself. More than likely he found it on the computer records.” Chatty male nurse? It could only be one guy. Robert. You’re not sure whether you want to punch him or kiss him. On the cheek. But whatever. You have a super cool chick on your team now.

“Oh yes,” Kori says. “Before I forget, lend me your trainer card.” You look at her curiously but hand over your card anyways. She has the cards touch, and you hear two beeps. Kori takes out a pokegear model 5, the newest model, and you take out your old retro style one. The devices ask you to confirm that you won the battle.

“Wow, how does this even work?” You say outloud. “A psychic network,” Kori responds. You really weren’t expecting an answer. When she hands you back your card, you see you have 5000 poke in it. Holy moly that’s a lot!

“As a Rescue Team, we can choose to pull all our funds together or to just keep separate accounts,” Kori informs you. That’s – that’s a lot of info to take in right now.

The sun still hasn’t set, which means you still have things you can do. You…

You and Kori head to the Pokemon Center. You quietly thank Katie under your breath since the disguise seems to work. And you also thank her since there doesn’t seem to be any media people around. You check your phone while you walk and you see that you have a new message from your mom.

It says: “package came for you at home, i think youll like it”. A package? You start imagining the possibilities. Could it be fanmail? But why would you get fanmail already? It’s not like you’ve done much yet. Or maybe it’s a severed hand, like In the Adventures of the Great Mariland. Or uh, you’re pretty sure you didn’t order anything. A new game perhaps? You’ll just have to find out later.

When you finally arrive at the Pokemon Center, the sun has already started to set. You put your sunglasses away in your shirt pocket but keep the hat. It actually goes pretty well with your outfit. The nurse, thankfully not Robert, tells you that it will take half an hour to heal your pokemon to full health. You keep Robin with you though since she should still have energy.

“Hey, I’m going to make a call,” you tell Kori. She grunts in acknowledgement but her nose is kept firmly in a book. You head to the back to get some privacy then touch the icon indicating Katie’s number. It takes a few rings, but she answers you.

“What up guy?” She says.

“I ended up recruiting someone to my team,” you inform her.

“Oh,” she says. “I’ve just been rerouting the news outlets to keep them off your trail. I guess this means you won’t need me?” You can tell there’s some hope to her voice.

“As if… I wouldn’t want you on my team,” you say. You think you hear some kind of squeal on the other end. “I’m actually waiting here in the Pokemon Center where we departed. Can you make it there?”

“Yeah, I’ll be there soon,” Katie says. There’s a lightness to her voice.

“How soon?” You ask. You have plans to make and stuff to do.

“Like right now,” you hear behind you. You turn around to see Katie standing behind you, still holding her phone.

“That was pretty fast,” you comment.

“Yeah, I’m just really good,” Katie says. You hear her real voice then hear it a second time through the phone.

“We should hang up now,” You say. “Yeah, okay, bye,” she says. You both hang up. Then she tackle hugs you. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Katie lets go, then says, “You won’t regret this decision, I promise.”

“You bet I won’t,” you say, a smile on both of your faces. You go back to Kori then introduce Katie. “Kori, this is Katie. She specializes in move tutoring and she’s pretty good at dealing with the media. Katie, this is Kori. She’s the most skilled pokemon catcher I’ve ever seen, and frankly, she’s the second in charge.” Katie doesn’t disagree, so you continue, “So Kori, how does Team Registration work?”

“It’s pretty simple,” she says. “Yeah,” Katie agrees. They both start explaining but eventually Kori relents and lets Katie talk. She tells you that all you need to do is tell a Nurse you’re planning on starting a Team and they’ll help you with registration. All you need is a Rescue Team name.

“How about Excel? Since that’s what we’re going to be doing,” Kori suggests. You look at Katie and both of you shrug your shoulders. “That sounds good,” you say. “I agree,” Katie says at the same time.

The three of you go to the counter and that’s when you encounter Robert. “You!” You yell pointing at him. “You!” He yells back while pointing at you. It’s a silly thing to do but you can’t help it (and you’re pretty sure he’s mocking you). “So, like, thanks for pointing Kori my way,” you say calmly.

“No problem,” he says back just as calmly. Kori doesn’t bat an eye at your shenanigans but you hear Katie giggle and it is beautiful.

“So, we wanted to register as a Rescue Team together,” you say. Robert looks at the three of you carefully.

“You should probably find another guy,” he says. “Three girls is pretty unbalanced, but it’s not unheard of.” Katie laughs at his joke and you kind of stew a little bit in jealousy. “I kid, I kid. So wait, let me guess what name you picked. Um, ‘The Squad’ or maybe ‘The Lumios.’” He giggles at that last one.

“We chose ‘The Excel,’” Kori says curtly. “And we’d like to get done with registration soon.” One look from her gets Robert to focus on the computer in front of him and you hear typing. The only time he stops is to ask you guys for your IDs.

“How’d you do that?” You whisper to Kori.

“I have my talents, you have your charms, and Katie is cute,” Kori says with some meek protest from the latter. “It’s something we can learn from each other.”

“So will you guys share a bank account?” Robert asks.

So, will you?

You look at both your companions. You only met them today, so you’re not really sure how their spending habits are like. “No, but that could change in the future.” When you don’t hear protest, you see Robert go back to typing. It doesn’t take long for him to hand you your ID back.

It’s a different color now. Instead of being blue, it’s now green. You also see the name of your Rescue Team on there. “Congratulations, ‘The Excel’ is official,” Robert says with some enthusiasm in his voice. You and Katie cheer while Kori looks generally happy. At least you can count on her stoicism to keep you and Katie in check and safe.

“Now that you’re official,” Robert starts explaining, “you have access to the mission boards.” He points to a bulletin board near the counter. You see a few pieces of paper stapled there. “Just take a picture of the QR code and run it through the database to accept the mission. Or you can just find missions online. Unfortunately the database is down at the moment, so you’ll have to make do with looking for good ol’ paper to inform you about what missions are available.”

You turn to the bulletin board to see that there are three papers currently stapled there. Looks like you have your choice of which mission you want to do. “Just remember,” Robert says. “You can only accept one mission per person in your team. And if you want to accept more than four people, you’ll need to get the Pokemon League Association’s approval.” You nod your head. This is all pretty simple stuff.

Before you can check on what missions are available, you hear your pokegear ringing. You excuse yourself and answer the phone. “Yeah mom, what’s up?”

“Did you get my message?” She asks.

“Yeah I did. Some kind of package?” You admit you were a little curious as to what it was.

“Yeah, well it turns out that the Pokemon Egg you received is ready to hatch any minute. If you want to keep it then you better get home right away. You’re going to want to be the first person it sees.”

[Alright folks, sorry but that’s all for tonight. Thanks for participating! And I hope you’ve enjoyed the story so far. I don’t think I should continue since I’ve been running for about 12 hours now? thanks for recommendations anyway.

'you decide to pop your cherry. you go into the brothel and find a "professional"......... however many hours later you leave' I wouldn't expect any QM to actually write what happens in any detail....... though I guess to some people even mentioning 'Tantric-Engineers' is too smutty. on the other hand maybe alex falls in love with a whore, lol

While I'm sure some people already have their preference is anyone else kinda hoping we do the unexpected and go full on Roger route. I'd love if like 20-30 threads later Roger still hasn't gotten a clue about the rumors and Alexander never comments on them. Then we meet up with the heroes and after a while someone (probably Thor) brings it up and everyone else starts ragging on Roger about his cute girlfriend and when the conversation turns to what we think and instead of a joke Alexander finally reacts in the most stereotypical "blushing bride" way possible and Roger realizes what's actually happening and doesn't know how to react except that Alex is kinda cute. Also Black Widow called it and won the bet everyone had going

Last time on Pokemon Adventure Quest, we just got a call from our mom about a Pokemon egg we received in the mail. Apparently it is ready to hatch and it is common knowledge that the first living thing a Pokemon sees after it hatches is the one it grows most attached to.

You have a choice: you could head home right away or you could take a quick peek at the bulletin board. Leaving the bulletin board now means there’s a chance that you’ll have less mission options, but there’s also the possibility the egg will hatch before you get there. Not that that’s a big problem; you can still raise the hatched Pokemon, but you just won’t be as close to it as you could have been.

So, what do you do?
>Head home right away.
>Take a quick peek at the bulletin board.

There’s no time to lose! You’re going to be a father apparently and at 16 years of age too! “Thanks mom,” you tell her over the phone. “I’ll be there soon.”

“Just stay careful!” She pleads before hanging up.

“So what’s up?” Katie asks.

“It turns out that someone sent me an egg through the mail and it is about to hatch. So I would very much like to be present in case I want the raise the little guy, or, er, girl.” You actually feel pretty excited about this unknown Pokemon. Just what could it be? Though you suppose it doesn’t matter much, since you’ll likely fall in love with the cute little face.

“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” Katie squeels. “I love baby Pokemon! Can I help you take care of it? Can I? Can I?” She’s relentless but you find that kind of admirable.

“Of course!” You say, and Katie jumps up in joy. Damn are you glad you let her join you. Baby Pokemon are a lot of work. You look over at Kori and she nods.

“We should start moving then,” she says.

Y’all rush over to your house. Thankfully it isn’t too far away, but what starts as a fast pace walks quickly turns into a jog. The jog temporarily turns into a sprint but quickly fades back into a job. Damn you body for not being fit! Katie seems to be struggling just as much as you are, but the excitement keeps the two of you going. Kori matches your face just fine; you think she hasn’t even broken a sweat.

When you arrive home, you feel momentarily relief that the front yard is empty. I mean, it’s supposed to be, but with the media witch hunt going on, you sort of expected something. You don’t let that paranoid thought go as you knock on the door. It only takes one for your mom to open the door. It looks like she was waiting for.

You enter the living room panting, but there it is on the carpet, surrounded by towels and heating lamps. You see it shake occasionally. “You got here just in time,” your mom said. She hands you a letter. “This came with that,” and she points to the egg.

You don’t want to keep your eyes off the egg, but at the same time the letter nags at your curiousity. You…
>Peek at the letter.
>Give the egg your full attention.
>Ask your mom for a refresher course on raising baby Pokemon.

You hand the letter back to your mom while keeping your eyes glued on that egg. You can barely contain your excitement. “Hey mom, do me a favor and read that letter. I don’t want to miss this,” you say.

“But you’ve seen plenty of hatchings before,” she complains. Mom still take the letter back and you hear her start to open.

“Yeah, but none of them have been mine,” you say. The egg shakes again. From the few hatching you’ve seen, you know that the shaking is going to start getting closer in intervals until the egg starts to crack, then the youngling will slowly break out of the shell. They tend to be all gooey, but that’s what the towels are for.

“Before I do you a favor, you should do me one and introduce your… Friends?” Your mom asks.

You hear someone approach your mother, and by how heavy the steps are you assume it’s Kori. “The name is Kori, nice to meet you Mrs. Greyson. I’m second-in-command of ‘The Excel.’ And this other girl, who can’t seem to keep her eyes of the egg either, is Katie.” Katie says a quick hi, but you guess she’s just as excited as you are. Maybe the baby will know her as mommy?

“Oh you can call me Ms. Greyson,” your mom says, and you feel that cold pit in your stomach. The shaking of the egg distracts you from that feeling though. “Anyways, the letter says:

Hey Alex,

When I went on my mission, I left one of my partners behind because I thought she was sick. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I got home and found an egg. We had been undercover for a while, and I missed her severely. It took some coaxing, but I was able to separate her from her egg. With my line of work, transporting an egg from place to place isn’t the best idea, so I was hoping you could take care of it in my stead. I’ve seen the way your Pokemon look at you, and I heard from Robert that you weren’t acquainted with them for long. I trust their instincts to trust you, and you already proved yourself in the field. So take care.

With care,

Rogers Stevenson”

You try not to think of the implications of a grown man you met for one day sending you an egg. That’s totally normal, right? Frankly, you’re not sure what to think.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of cracking. It’s happening! You move to the edge of your seat as another crack moves across the surface of the egg. Oh man, you…
>Tell everyone to leave the room. It has to see you first.

You unconsciously grab Katie’s hand as you move forward. She offers no resistance as she stays by your side. You get as close to the egg as possible, making sure not to drop any of the heat lamps. You made that mistake a little over a decade ago and caused a small fire. Thankfully your dad had been there then to smother the fire. You don’t like to think about it.

Another crack wracks across the surface of the egg, and a small white snout manages to pop out. The tiny clumps of fur are wet. Katie moves in to assist the struggling hatchling but you hold her back. “You’re supposed to let them do it themselves. The struggle strengthens their new muscles.” You both watch in amazement as a paw manages to make its way out of the egg. You vaguely hear some movement behind you – the scraping of a chair probably – but you’re too focused on the here and now.

A back leg manages to pop out now and this time you see tufts of small clunky orange hairs. One last shake allows the hatchling to shed the excess off, and it finally finds itself free of the egg. You can tell immediately that it’s a Growlithe puppy. Though it does look a little different from a normal pup. The usual black stripes are more of a dark blue, and there’s a black spot around the eyes that make it look like it’s wearing a mask of some sort.

It finally opens its eyes and you notice that instead of the usual grey, they’re lavender in color. It looks up in yours and Katie’s direction before settling its eyes on Katie. Oh. Oh! It saw her first. You can already see it clumsily moving towards her direction. You look up at her beautiful green eyes and you see there’s a look of surprise on them. “I – uh – I didn’t mean to –” She says.

You grab a towel and gently wrap the newly born hatchling. Then you hand it over to Katie. “Start by gently, very gently, cleaning his, or um, her? It. Clean its whole body of that goo.” She follows your instructions and you hear someone walking behind you. You look up to see your mom standing over the two of you.

“Yeah, that’s very good,” she tells Katie. Your mom hands her a bottle with white liquid in it. “It’s important to bottle feed them early. Not only does it help build a connection but it gives them the proper nutrients to grow into strong healthy adults.” Katie struggles to reorient the baby Pokemon in her arms, and you help her by showing her the proper technique to hold a baby Pokemon so that she can cradle its sensitive neck while allowing it to comfortable drink. “Plus,” you add, “It’s a comfortable position for you too. You can actually cradle a baby like that for hours.” Memories of holding Poliwag babies that same way enter your mind.

“Um, uh, thank you,” Katie says. “But I still think this um-”

“Boy,” your mom says. How does she know this stuff?

“Boy,” Katie continues. “Should be yours.” You can see guilt all over her face.

“I think with your training and my battling expertise, he’ll become a legend,” you say, trying your best not to look disappointed.

“No but I’m serious,” Katie says. “He was meant for you. I just kind of, I don’t know, got caught up in the moment.”

You tell her…

“You do know he was sent to me, right?” You say. “So of course I’m going to keep the little guy.” You put your hand on her shoulder. “Listen Katie, I’m not mad. I might be a little disappointed, but these kinds of things happen.” Katie lets out a deep breath. You see relief on her face.

“Thanks for saying that,” Katie says, a smile slowly appears on her face. It widens as she looks down at the baby Growlithe in her arms.

“But you owe me,” you say playfully. “That means you need to help me take care of the little guy and you’re going to help me train him to be the very best.”

“Uh duh,” Katie says back. You can see her cheerful spirit has returned. She looks back at the baby Growlithe, cradling him back and forth in a very motherly way. Your mom kneels down to take a good look at him.

“It looks like the father was an Espeon and there seems to be some Lucario blood somewhere in the gene pool. This little guy shows a lot of promise. Very strong.” You envy that kind of analysis.

“I’m glad,” Katie says. She never took her eyes off him. She quickly looks up at you. “Well since he’s a newborn, he needs a name. That means you have to name him though.”

“Okay.” You agree.

“Um,” You say. Coming up with nicknames was always difficult. Naming things in general is really tough and you’re not exactly sure what kind of personality the newborn has.

“How about Apollo?” You mom suggests.

“Or Helios,” Kori suggests. You kind of like that one, but aren’t those names a little overdone? You take a look at the cute little guy. He’s already drank quite a bit. The baby Growlithe yawns, and nuzzles Katie’s chest before closing his eyes.

You get up and go to the shelf. Your mom keeps a few books just for moments like this. You grab a book about mythology. Your mom and Kori had the right idea. The little guy should be named after some kind of sun or fire deity of old. It doesn’t take long for you to find what you’re looking for. Lugh. The Irish god of the sun.

“I think we should name him Lugh,” you say. Kori nods with approval and your mom shrugs her shoulders. She’s just happy enough to have another baby around the house, especially since she won’t be one waking up in the middle of the night to take care of it.

“Perfect,” Katie says. You offer her a seat on the couch but she doesn’t want to move just in case Lugh wakes up.

“Well,” Kori says. “Now that that’s settled. What should we do with the rest of the day?”

“If you want, kiddo,” your mom says. “I can take care of Lugh while you guys finish your business for the day. It probably isn’t the best idea to take him out yet since he’s so newly hatched. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow.” You also need to get Lugh his shots, but that can be done at any Pokemon Center.

You…

“Well, he probably won’t be doing much,” You say quietly, indicating Lugh. “Doesn’t mean I want to stay too far though. I, uh, I think I’ll finally accept that challenge from my neighbor. He has an official looking battlefield in his backyard.” You look at Kori. “He specialized in battling, same as me.”

“Then I’ll join you,” Kori says. “Watching should prove an interesting endeavor.”

You both turn to face Katie. “I’m going to stay here,” she whispers. “Ms. Greyson already agreed to teach me the basics in baby rearing. It’s not like I grew up doing it.” Was that a bit of jealousy in her voice? You can’t fault her though; it’s useful knowledge.

You head to the main hall then call your neighbor. It rings for a while then you get voicemail. Is he busy? Did he decide to go on a journey already? That prick. There’s too much to do in the city before you even start. There’s no way he started ahead of you. You call again, and this time he picks up within the first 5 rings. In a sleepy tone you hear, “What up?”

“Hey man, this is Alex. You challenged me to a battle, ‘member?” You hear a grunt on the other line. “Well I’m ready to cash in that check. Where you at?”

You hear some shuffling on the other end of the phone. Sounds like he’s moving stuff around? You hear a crash then hear him say, “I’m good, I’m good.” You wait a little longer. “Alright, I’m ready,” he says.

“Good,” you say. “Now where are you?”

“Oh. I’m at home dude. Just chilling. How long will it take you to get here?” At least he doesn’t sound drowsy anymore. You feel a little bad about waking him up, but what’s that saying? A trainer must be ready at all times. You’re sure that’s how it goes.

“I’m actually at my house,” you say. You think you hear him swear.

“Give me, like, ten minutes dude,” he says. “Just knock on my door, ‘k?” You agree and he hangs up. Heh. He probably has to put pants on. Unless he sleeps in the nude. You wave away that thought. Speaking of which, you can’t seem to recall his name. Damn, that’s going to be awkward.

You think it’s…

This is probably a good opportunity to get to know your lieutenant better. The lieutenant is the second-in-command, right? Well whatever, you still want to know more about her. “So Kori,” you begin, breaking the silence. “Why did you choose to specialize in catching?”

She looks at you then looks up, visibly pondering your question. Kori even puts a finger to her chin as she speaks. “I suppose I chose that particular specialization because I was lonely. Unlike yourself, I was never close to a parent nor was I raised in a household full of Pokemon.” You honestly weren’t expecting something this explicitly personal. “The ironic part is that I tend to release all but 1 Pokemon whenever I enter a new area. It’s thrilling using that one to capture five more. It’s a game I play with myself. Can I fill up my team before I have to heal? This also allows me to get a feel for a large variety of Pokemon though I can see why some people would look down on that kind of approach. Most see Pokemon fighting as a bonding experience or a simple competitive sport, but I like to think of it as a game.”

Well. Best to reassure her though. “I don’t think your approach is invalid,” you say. “Though you might want to keep at least one Pokemon you never release. Just to get to know what others are saying when they say they enjoy the bonding experience.”

“Yes, I suppose you’re right,” Kori says. “How about you? Why did you decide to specialize in battling?”

Oh. That’s an easy question. You…

If you had to be honest, you hated being in your father’s shadow. Even now you know the media would talk incessantly about the topic if they found out. After he left, you really got into detective shows and you began to really look up to them. One of the best was Detective Heckles. No matter where the trail of clues led him, he’d always end up in a fight with the bad guys. You kind of wanted to be like him, prepared for any situation.

“Let’s just say I never want to be caught with my pants down and I also want to be better than my old man,” you say. Kori raises an eyebrow but doesn’t push you for further details. Did you say that right? Ah, probably. “And truth be told, I just want to be the best,” you add.

“It’s okay,” Kori says. “I have my own daddy isssues.” You aren’t really sure what to say to that? No? Yes? How does she do that? You’re struck silent.

Luckily, a quick peek at your poketch confirms that ten minutes are up. You wave at the two people in the living room and point at the door. “Good luck,” Katie says. “Kick his butt,” your mom adds.

You cross the front yard, open the gate, then walk over to your neighbor’s house. He doesn’t have a gate the way you do, nor is his house two stories. It still looks nice though, and he keeps the lawn immaculate. You start wondering what he does with his free time if he’s just casually napping during the… Oh. The sun’s already setting. You must’ve lost track of time. You could’ve sworn it was still afternoon.

Anyways, you knock at his door and he opens it up a few moments later. “Welcome, welcome!” He says with a grand gesture.

Your neighbor is medium build with olive colored skin. His hair is slick back and dark. Long eyelashes compliment his light brown eyes, and you would objectively call the guy handsome.

“Hi neighbor,” you say politely. “Let me introduce you to Kori. She wanted to spectate our battle. I hope that won’t be a problem.”

“The name’s Otto,” he says. They shake hands. “And I would love for someone so beautiful to see me kick your butt.” Cocky bastard, you’ll show him.

“Nah dude, we both know I’m going to win,” you say. “As if,” is the only response you get back as Otto walks to the back of his house. You follow him and Kori hesitantly follows after you.

The interior opens up to the kitchen on your left, a dining room to your right, and a living room in front of you. The kitchen is pretty standard with white tile and a variety of appliances strewn about. The dining room has a mahagony or some other type of dark wood table with nice chairs. There’s several mats on the table with various silverware carefully placed around. The living room features a couch facing a wide flat screen TV. Toys are littered around the rug that rests between TV and couch. The living room also has double doors with windows built into the doors overlooking the backyard. Overall, the place looks cozy.

“Sorry for the mess!” Otto calls out as he unlocks and steps through the backyard. He takes his place on one side of the battlefield, and you take your place on yours. Your side is actually the one closest to your house. The battlefield is pretty standard. It’s mostly packed dirt with lines indicating where the out of bounds areas are. There’s also a few big rocks littered around; those weren’t there last time you came to visit. “This will be a 2-on-2 match,” Otto says. “I only have two pokemon and I presume you at least have that many.” You nod your head in agreement.

Time to put this guy in his place. You…

You feel your pulse jump as the battle begins. “Go Gojira,” you say at the same time your rival says, “Take the skies, Pidove!” A small grey and black bird flies out of Otto’s pokeball. It has a heart shaped lighter area of feathers on its chest. Its eyes are yellow and there’s a tuft of feathers sticking out of its head. There’s something different about it though. You’re not sure if you noticed because you’ve been spending more time with your mom or if it’s because you became a trainer, but something strikes you as off about this Pokemon. You check your Pokedex and confirm that it is a Normal/Flying type. And then you see it. Some of the feathers around Otto’s Pidove are a light green. You wonder if that means anything.

The small green reptilian pokemon stands before you ready for battle. It looks back at you, ready for a command.

You tell Gojira to…
>Bite, start out by trying to make them flinch.
>Leer, intimidate the foe.
>Sandstorm, set up that gradual damage and ninja stealth.
>Dragon Dance, build up power and speed.

“Alright Gojira, let’s start out strong,” you say. “Sandstorm!”

“We’ll set up too,” Otto says. “Pidove, use lucky chant!”

Gojira starts stomping the ground and moving left and right. Slowly, the dirt rises and begins swirling. A gradual dirt devil turns into a fully-fledged sandstorm, though you know that this isn’t Gojira’s best work. At the very least, Gojira finds a way to blend into the storm and you have trouble making out his figure. Does his skin turn dirt color during a sandstorm? That’s something you’ll have to research later.

Otto’s Pidove starts singing some kind of song and you see a weird barrier surround it before disappearing. You also make out a small sign of irritation in its face. Sandstorm is already gradually damaging it.

Now, you order a…

“Dragon Dance!” You call out. Now that Gojira is safe in the sand, you can start setting up the sweep. You see Gojira’s figure somewhere in the swirling mists of sand. You’re actually getting kind of used to the feeling of being peppered by a bunch of tiny little flecks swirling around at violent speeds.

“Not so fast!” Your rival calls out. “Pidove, use gust to blow away that sandstorm!” His pokemon begins flapping its swings furiously and you can feel the winds from where you’re standing. The sandstorm is blown away and a wave of sand washes over you. Again. Ugh, there’s sand everywhere. And you mean everywhere.

Gojira is now out in the open; he was thrown from the middle of the arena to nearby your feet, but you see him stand up and the telltale signs of hopping. He has his speed and power boost.

“That was smart,” you call out.

Time to try out a new move during battle. Is this the best way to do it? Probably not, but hey you might end up surprising the enemy and yourself.

“Gojira, try that screaming move you used before!” You yell at the same time Otto commands his Pidove to return. A familiar red light connects between Otto’s ball and his pokemon, then the small bird is gone. In it’s place, Otto sends out a two foot tall, blue canine-like Pokemon. It has black legs, a blue tail, and a black mask-like shape around its eyes that remind you of the baby Growlithe waiting back home. Its eyes are red, and they are round with surprise.

The newly released Pokemon covers its ears as Gojira lets out a loud piercing scream. You’re forced to cover your ears as well and a quick inspection shows that both Kori and your opponent did too. The smug look on Otto’s face disappeared. “Dude, at least use the proper name for the moves,” he says. “Some warning would have been appreciated.”

“What do you mean?” You ask. Besides, how are you supposed to know what moves are what.

“That was Screech,” Kori informs you. “Perhaps you should consider upgrading that Pokedex you have in your pocket.” Oh yeah! You quickly take out the Pokedex and it informs you that your opponent sent out a Riolu. Nothing strikes you as off about it, but you have been wrong before. And damn; Riolu is a fighting type. Looks like it has an advantage against all your Pokemon.

You order Gojira to…
>Bite, he won’t expect it.
>Leer, further that defense even further.
>Sandstorm, time to set up dodging.
>Dragon Dance, you need one more boost then you’re golden.
>Dig, hide underground and set up those tunnels.
>Dig+Sandstorm, confuse the foe.

Time to change strategy. You think back to the very first lecture you received at the Trainer Academy. One of the most important things every battle expert should know: Pokemon are capable of using combo moves, but they tend to be pretty draining. Besides that, most Pokemon can only combo moves with similar types or similar effects. You have to be a pretty good trainer for the more complex stuff, but you kind of zoned out for the rest of the lecture. Maybe had you been a better student, you wouldn’t look like a dumbass so frequently.

“Gojira, start digging tunnels! Make sure to include lots of holes everywhere,” you order as Otto orders his Pokemon to “Counter their attack!” Ha, looks like you outsmarted him. He looks at you with slight frustration and slight fear.

“Hey don’t lose your cool,” you call out. “Or you’ll fall for my trap.”

“Um, uh, keep countering!” He orders. Yup. Your bluff worked as Gojira sets up more and more holes around the opponent Riolu. For its part, it looks ready to throwdown. Doesn’t counter involve physical moves? It’s too bad that’s all you have. For now, you’ll have to play the patient waiting game.

“Hey, what’s your deal?” Otto calls out. “Aren’t you going to attack?”

“If I do that, you’ll just counter it,” You call back. “Why don’t you find out what we’re planning?”

“Fine,” he says. “Riolu, use foresight to find his Pokemon.” Now’s your chance. As soon as Riolu goes out to investigate a hole, you shout, “Now Gojira, use Sandstorm!” You can tell your opponent is completely caught off guard. His Riolu is immediately blown away as particles of sand whip out from each hole in the ground. You can tell you’ll get a bonus to your next attack.

Now’s your chance. You order Gojira to…
>Bite, try to flinch.
>Leer, further that defense even further.
>Sandstorm, strengthen while he recovers.
>Dragon Dance, you need more power.
>Dig, should be quicker now.
>Screech, stack up the surprises.
>Let you use an item on him.
>Return, this may not be a great matchup.
>Write in [always highly encouraged]
>Combo something?

Time to capitalize on his surprise. A random memory floats by: You were channel surfacing since all your favorite shows were on re-run, and you stumbled upon a documentary. It described a tribe of people that worshipped ‘The Great Spirit of the Desert.’ Turns out that this supposed great spirit was just a very powerful Flygon. Worship included giving the Great Spirit’s children offerings near their holes. It kind of spooked you out seeing the Trapinch quickly jump out to grab the food and drag it back into their holes. You smile. That’s a perfect plan actually. “Gojira, use bite! Drag it down into the tunnels.”

Unfortunately, your rival is quick to recover. “Don’t let them! Bullet Punch.” Bullet what? You see a blue blur approach your Pokemon. There’s a crashing sound and you see Gojira biting down on Riolu’s right arm. The right arm is glowing a slight chrome color. In the next instance, Gojira drags down the poor, struggling blue Pokemon, and they both disappear underground.

You can see Otto struggling to come up with a strategy. You got this in the bag, and you both know it. You’re about to yell out another order when Otto says, “I yield. Once you beat my best, I know I won’t be able to best two of your Pokemon.”

Huh. Looks like you’ve got two official victories under your belt now. You both recall your Pokemon and Kori congratulates you. “Dude, that was ferocious,” Otto comments. “But I’ll be damned if I didn’t almost shit my pants. Congrats.” He offers you his card, so you tap yours to his. You both hear a ding, and after confirming the victory, you see that you only received 250 poke. Cheap bastard.

By this time, it’s truly night, and you hardly noticed. Stadium type lights flood the arena before you. You head home and your mom invites your companions to sleep over. Kori ponders for a bit before relenting.

“Alright, I only have one guest room with one bed,” your mom says. “Since Alex has his own room, one of you will have to sleep on the couch.” Kori and Katie look at each other. Katie is still holding the baby Growlithe in her arms.

You…
>Tell Katie she can have your room and Kori can have the guest room.
>Tell Katie the guest room is all hers and Kori has dibs to your room.
>Tell Kori to sleep on the couch, Katie can sleep in the guest room.
>Tell Katie the couch is all hers and Kori can take the guest room.

Y’know, you like your room but you suppose you should be a gentleman. Before you say anything though, Kori says, “I’ll take the guest room and leave you two to figure out the rest.” She gives you both a wink before turning to your mom. “Ma’am, where’s the shower?”

Your mother looks at you then Katie before turning to Kori. You’re not sure what that look on her face implies. “Here, I’ll show you,” your mom says, as she begins walking away. “Our knobs are pretty weird and I wouldn’t want you to have to figure that out yourself.” Kori thanks your mom then follows her upstairs. It’s just you and Katie alone now. And the baby too.

“So, uh,” Katie begins, hesitantly. “I’ll take the couch.” Ha. Good one.

“Unacceptable,” you say. “There’s no way I’m letting a guest sleep in anything less than a bed. It’s part of my gentleman code.”

“But-” Katie tries to say. You cut her off. “You wouldn’t me to break my code, now would you?” You see Katie look down at the baby snoozing peacefully in her arms then at you. Oh no. There’s more guilt in her eyes. “Let’s compromise,” you blurt out. “I’ll sleep on the floor. I bought this rug from the flea market once, and I swear it’s super comfy. I sometimes sleep there just to change it up, y’know?” You can tell that Katie knows you’re lying but at least she doesn’t have a guilty look on her face. No, it looks like she’s blushing now? You have no idea why.

“Okay,” she says meekly. So you escort her to your room. You set up a blanket on the floor and choose your favorite pillow – make that your second favorite pillow – and plop it on the floor. You wait patiently with the baby as Katie showers and when she’s done you take your turn.

Finally, it’s dark and you’re both in your room. “Y-your bed smells like you,” she says. Your heart start fluttering at that comment. You’ve never had a girl in your room before, and you’re not sure what to say. “T-thanks,” you mutter. You feel a familiar warmth spread across your face; you’re blushing.

There’s an exchange of awkward small talk before you finally fall asleep.

When you wake up in the morning, you find both Kori and Katie snuggling up to you. It’s a pleasant feeling but you’re unsure how that happened. Thinking back, you vaguely remember Kori entering your room saying something about team building and sleeping close together, and you think Katie said something about being cold? Regardless, here you are with two girls cuddling next to you and a baby Growlithe on your chest.

You could get used to this.

[Alright guys. That’s it for tonight. I can already feel the quality quickly slipping. Sorry I rushed the battle again with another surrender, but I didn’t want to drag things out. Next thread is probably Wednesday but there’s a slight possibility I might be able to run tomorrow. I’ll keep you guys updated on twitter: @knight_quest. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated, whether it is in the form of questions, complaints, critiques, or compliments. Also, let me know what y’all want from the quest.]

I think we should invite Otto to join our team.
>>

>It described a tribe of people that worshipped ‘The Great Spirit of the Desert.’ Turns out that this supposed great spirit was just a very powerful Flygon.

Was that a reference to the Pokemon Civ quest Laze was running? Resemblance seemed uncanny.
>>
>>281031
Thanks for the run QK. I too like the battle system you're using, it makes sense to me that a trainer would concede defeat in a non-tournament/ranked battle.

I'm enjoying the mix of slice of life and competitive drive to be the very best. The only question that comes to mind right now is whats the situation with ranking/pokemon league? Do we accumulate points from battles, are there tournaments we can enter, how do we quantify our progress to become #1, assuming that's what the collective desires?
>>
>>281058
That is indeed a reference.

>>281064
These are great questions that should be asked within the quest.
>>
>>281073
>These are great questions that should be asked within the quest.
>asked
I assume you mean answered?
>>
>>281073
So as of now our character has no concrete understanding of the setup?
>>281079
I'm thinking this means we need to ask these questions in character to someone who would be able to answer them.
>>
In any case, I enjoyed the run, can't wait for the next session!

Question though, why is it that Rescue teams are limited to four people? Can an unregistered group of five or more people work together? Can multiple Rescue teams simply travel together?
>>
>>281090
It's more of a safety thing. Certain missions can be very dangerous and if a group gets big enough, they might end up losing track of someone. Nothing stops you from unofficially working with more people, they just don't get the same benefits.

Plus it's just an arbitrary limit set by the Mystery Dungeon series.
>>
>>281090
I'm guessing OOC and IC that it's too much of a hassle for QK to keep track of. due to the math.
Each trainer can theoretically have a party of 6 pokemon. so 4 trainers means 24 unique mons per team. And if it comes to an all out team battle then you need to keep track a possible of 48 individual mons and 8 trainers.
>>
>>281099
So why'd we get both girls snuggling up to us? Do they both find us attractive or what? because that team building bit is kinda bs.
>>
>>281042
Noooooooooooo. We be the Mack daddy, don't need Otto coming in and making things complicated
>>
>>281111
Nice quads. That deserves an answer. As far as Alex is aware, this is just normal friend behavior.

>>281102
This anon is right. It would quickly get difficult to keep track of all those characters on top of rival groups, npcs, and planned and unplanned encounters.
>>
>>281111
>>281130
Alex (The MC) is 16 years old. Katie looks slightly younger than Alex while Kori looks slightly older if the reference photos are to go by. Teen Hormones and the heavy undertones of parenthood via raising newborn pokemon is a deadly combination for romance.

I figured since Kori had one that we wouldn't. I suppose that's why he wrote that she tends to release all pokemon she catches. I'm still hoping we get a plume fossil, though.
>>
>>282850
We should go back to that mountain n try and help kori catch that legendary again. It'll be convenient having a team we can trade Pokemon with

Anyone still lurking?
>>

I still lurk anon. I like seeing people discuss the story and planning what they want to do.
>>
>>288981
So our current party is a larvitar, a munchlax, an Aron, and a growlite who bonded with Katie. Assuming we get those three evolved into a Tyrannitar, an Aggron, a Snorlax, and Arcanine; what party build are we gonna focus on? half of our party will evolve into fuck hueg titans.
>>
And are we gonna go plan for hunting megastones? Vulcan and Gogira are viable for their mega evols. Mega Aggron and Mega Tyranitar.
>>
>>289693
That's a strong possibility actually.
>>
>>289579
I just kinda figured we'd try and have a diverse team of varying types. Now we've got a fire type, we should look for a good water type, such as totodile or magikarp, and a good grass type, such as bulbasaur or skiddo.
>>
>>289983
When were you thinking of starting today?

Don't be so presumptuous anon. At least half that time is spent sleeping. A good bit of the other is spent researching though.
>>
>>290928
Well, I would understand if you decided to start early. I might be a little upset, but I'd get over it.
