You are Subject 108, a.k.a. Whirlpool. You are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies from a reclusive civilization that has mastered spatial distortion. You tend to suffer occasional lapses in memory, emotion and judgement from shifting hormonal imbalances due to a congenital anomaly. You have been sent to the feral planet known as Cymbio IV for a simple task: fetching water, but you are sidetracked by an adventure of your own making.

You spent the night with Errai in passionate romance, fully committed in your love. In the following morning, you took a bath for the first time in a while before changing your attire again—this time to that of a pirate captain's. You walk out to be greeted by Rigel and the rest, wearing civilian attire. You have a casual chat before Errai and Betelgeuse catch up and discuss today's activities with you. Once the group has come to a consensus, they move to a truck parked outside with Mu Cephei waiting alongside it. Then a truck ride ensues.

>Definitely as a mother figure. Yup, no way it's anything else. Now let's get this party started.

The group begins packing up into the vehicle. You tell Betelgeuse that, for the short time you've been with her, you look up to her as a mother-figure already and that you love her in a filial way. She is surprised by your sudden confession and has trouble coming up with a good response.

>"I suppose I could allow this, being a surrogate does not seem too difficult. My words are at a loss, so allow me to reciprocate some other way."

She opts to give you a good old-fashioned parental hug instead. It's a good thing you don't have a raging hard-on right now or you would've felt guilty about this. After the hug you join the others in the truck, where it drives off towards a public road leading to the Transport District, according to Mu Cephei at least.

You are in the back of the truck en route to Resorcinol. You're feeling both excited and worried at how things would turn out. You take the time to reflect on your actions while you still can, which hits you with a startling realization.

In the selfish pursuit of having a fashionable attire, you have completely neglected to maintain your VISOR in the transition. It's gonna be more difficult handling things without your reliable HUD. You estimate that your REPAIR MODULE is still recharging after your earlier use.

Mu Cephei is at the front as a passenger beside Rigel, who's driving.

You're welcome, by the way.

>>279762
You ask everyone on their feelings on the mission and if they wanted advice or some cheering up, assuming you're actually good at those. The responses so far are varied.

Errai is just as uneasy as you, recalling her near-death experiences.

Betelgeuse reminds you what we are coming for and mentions that we should look out for each other especially when we separate.

Sirius simply wishes you good luck.

Canopus is looking forward to the adventure, maybe this will end up like her novels.

Decrux doesn't really mind but he does hope that we'll get through this day in one piece.

>>279828
You hear a muffled declaration from the front, probably Rigel. Something along the lines of arriving at the destination. You look out the back and see that the vehicle is currently on some kind of elevator platform. After a while the ascension stops and the vehicles drives some more before reaching the familiar hangar of the Transport District.

You find the act a bit embarrassing and awkward to pretend, you're very healthy yourself. Errai is quick to catch on to your act and "helps" you get going. The others are still disembarking the vehicle, while already you're heading towards the nearest exit. The walk is somewhat tedious, having to limit your mobility. Under normal circumstances you would get to the front desk relatively quickly but you're going to have to take some more time.

>>280714
The only ones who have taken good note of you so far is Propane and the unnamed pilot yesterday. You don't see him around, maybe he has a meeting. The pilot could be busy with other assignments, for all you know.

You have not been to the Medical District so you don't know its whereabouts.

>"I have never traversed this establishment before. I trust you have your bearings here?"

>>282637
You adjust your posturing, shifting some more weight on Errai. She's quick to accommodate your posture.

>>282119
You make your way to the front desk, on the way you stop the act when you're sure no one's around to look.

>"Greetings valued patron! Thank you for choosing our services. What do you need?"

Her tone maintains that mechanically-consistent optimism. You ask for directions to the Medical District, you've only been to the Red Light District, the Transport District and the Consumer District so you're unfamiliar with the others. You also ask for a wheelchair, this limping shtick is getting tiring and it would save a lot of effort going from one place to another in this huge resort.

She gives you both at once, telling you about the Medical District while handing Errai a wheelchair with one arm. Since the Medical District is essentially one big hospital, and hospitals are incredibly-important, it is easily-accessible from multiple points. You can even enter one of its reception areas from the elevator over there. Finding the District Head however, is a different matter entirely.

>>282853
Oh yeah, the signs were a thing. Wonder why you forgot about those, maybe you started taking it for granted? Fortunately it's much easier to navigate now that you're in a wheelchair.

Thank you for catching up

The magic of excessive signage helps you point to a particular direction. Being a District Head would infer a managerial role therefore him being in the Administrative sector would make sense. You lead Errai to wheel you through certain hallways and intersections before seeing a plaque labeled "District Head" somewhere in the distance.

>>284670
There's a nurse standing by the doorway.

>"If you're after physical therapy, I'm afraid you're looking in the wrong place."

You tell her that you have an appointment scheduled with the head. She shoots you a quizzical look. Errai backs you up, saying that she's been looking forward to the meeting since last week. The nurse hesitantly lets you through, saying that he doesn't usually schedule appointments.

As soon as the doors close, you stand up from your wheelchair. The first room is probably some meeting place, it looks remarkably empty. There's a photo of the district head on the wall, a short-haired male. You continue onward to the next room, which looks like the stereotypical boss' office. There are two stools in front of the table. The chair's back is turned towards you, obscuring the identity of the district head...or if there is someone sitting there at all.

>"Please, take a seat. We'll settle this like civilized folks."

You hear the person seated on the chair speak, and reveals himself to you.

>"Hello...'Whirlpool'. Before you ask, I am a doctor and a doctor has his ways. You should know that Nicotine was looking forward to meeting you again. Oh well, but I suppose I could still make do."

This man is not ordinary.

Aspirin chuckles a bit.

>"Haha, I'm not as young as you think I am. I am 26 years old, I just look young from my excellent health."

He stands up from his chair, presenting himself to be a healthy adult.

"Maybe you're just bad with judging people by their age. To be fair, I do consider myself a medical genius especially in the field of seamless reconstruction. Still, if you want to see real youth, go see Sacc—err—successful examples of a healthy diet and proper exercise."

>>285584
>"Of course, I can already surmise. However, your thoughts are in a bit of a tizzy right now so my reading's hazy. Let me start by introducing myself, or rather, what I can do."

He takes a moment to compose himself.

>"Still wondering how I can read you like a book? I'm an empath, it's why I'm such a good doctor. I can trace minute sensations in my patients and prescribe remarkably-precise treatments. Yes, my claim does infer that I have 'psychic powers', but don't worry since I'm limited to telepathy and partial memory-viewing."

He sits back down and steeples his fingers.

>"So, what do you want to ask the good doctor?"

>"Calm down, miss. You're in a heightened state of aggravation that's clouding your good senses."

You sit down again, pretending to calm down then say your piece.

>"Actually I didn't. Premonition and clairvoyance are out of my league, my domain lies exclusively on physical empathy and present-tense telepathy. Consider yourself fortunate for that, having managed to get here by yourselves."

Before he could get another word out you lunge again, faster and with dire intent to simply grab hold of him. He puts up his hands and almost stands up in shock. The two of you freeze in place to avoid further commotion that could alert individuals outside.

>"Woah woah woah. A go-getter, are you? Listen, we can settle this nonviolently. I am important to this facility, to the patients, the staff, and even my students. How about a deal? Leave me be and I'll do you a great favor, free of charge. How about that? Just hear me out."

Lay it out how it is. The people here stole from the "tribals", and we're here to get what was taken back. Now, the doc is a caring man, so maybe he is willing to give what he can, or even better, directly work with the tribals to recreate the tech along with treating them.
That's the only offer that will work. His full cooperation with the tribals. Hell, he might learn something from them since they genemod and shit.

The other person has rejected my offer,I hope you won't do the same here. I can make you as if you were naturally-born female with literally no strings attached, ending your constant stream of subconscious indecision and primal urges. The seamless reconstruction is normally used for more...vain purposes such as animal ears but now would be an excellent opportunity to see it used for a more productive venue. As a bonus maybe I can transfer the phallus to your partner over there if you even so desire. I will also avoid interfering with any more of your affairs outside of medical emergencies. I trust that your colleagues won't tear the entire place apart."

Errai is worried at the proposition seemingly for personal reasons..

Refuse. It may be weird, and uncomfortable, but it's the body we were born with. The only favor we want is his cooperation with the tribals. Or, if he won't give that, then...maybe just hold on to the favor for when we want to cash it in at a crucial moment. Like if someone important to us is critically injured.

Now, back to the main topic...we need to find a way to share medical technology. The tribals can barely cobble their stuff together due to lack of materials. Would he be willing to, if nothing else, help reconstruct some medical tech/facilities? Or share some of his genius? It would vastly improve their life I imagine.

On a different note...think maybe the scientists (tribals, hurr) might know anything about psionics? We should ask betel when we get back.

While you have a figurative headache from weighing risks and benifits, Errai tries her hand at diplomacy.

>"The Hippocratic Oath, all medical personnel are familiar with it, correct?"

>"Yes, but I don't see how it's relevant to our conversation."

>"My people, despite their individual health, are severely ailing as a collective. Our original technologies were stolen from us generations ago by your superiors, forcing us to resort to primitive living. Is it not part of your oath to swear neutrality and aid people from both sides of a conflict?"

>"Technically it isn't, I'm pretty sure of that. Also, I don't think it's in my power to return whatever was stolen from you. I may be a District Head but I don't call the shots. As such, I'm afraid I can't distribute my resources...officially at least. Plus, I am a doctor so I'm going to be very busy."

The slip of Aspirin's tongue snaps you out of your trance and you take the opportunity to ask him about his superiors.

>"I would attempt to keep it a secret but our organizational structure gives it away to an astute mind. There's a Management District, occupied solely by one individual and the lackeys. I'm afraid that's as far as I am allowed to tell. Truth be told, I'm not even supposed to talk to you at all."

Understandable, corporate environment and all. You then ask for help when dealing with his fellow heads, specifying which ones you're after aside from him.

>"I suppose a chance to settle things peacefully is useful. Starting off with Propane, he is merely a hardworking man tasked with overseeing vehicle logistics. He's doing his best for the sake of his family but I can tell he's deeply stressed by it. If you can convince him to ignore his contract and voluntarily leave, well, you already know. Saccharin—youthful head of the Consumer District—is a rambunctious one, you are forgiven if you think she's the district mascot rather than the head. Despite her supposed age and experience, she's...very immature. It's almost impossible to pacify her with words so your best bet is to tire her out...or starve her, that also works. Lastly, you're gonna have to confront Nicotine outright. She's been wanting to talk to you for a long time and personally asked us to direct you to her should I ever encounter you. There's one more thing I'd tell you about her, but I'd rather let her tell you herself."

He pauses momentarily, either to let you process all of the information or to peer inside your mind for something.

>"As a bonus, I'm going to mention that the head of the Residential District would have been insurmountably-powerful had it not been for her pacifistic nature. Unlike me and the others, she works -alongside- her underlings like a senior waitress or something. You have to wonder, however, if you could make it in time to help your colleagues. I can't see into the future, nor can I see remote places. I'm not sure how you can apply this knowledge in your current position."

You remember that you're in a foreign environment and that your body might be horribly sensitive to the world around it. You ask for something for your immune system.

>"Of course, hang on...there we go."

The doctor hands you a prescription note.

>"Anyway, I'll let you off as long as you behave here. This is my domain and it will pain me greatly if this sanctuary is tarnish. By the way, if anyone asks why you're standing tell them that I just fixed your dislocated ankle, okay?"

Guys I'm SO SORRY for not having any activity at all yesterday, when I got back home the internet's kaput because everyone in the household forgot to pay the internet bill and there's no other source of wifi in the area. Don't worry, I'll try to make it up for you.

There goes that plan, guess you'll have to get Whirlpool for this. At least you narrowly avoided some serious shit. You sit on a nearby bench and wait alongside Canopus for the others to arrive. Lucky for her she has her pilfered books while you sit here staring at the mindless patrons just gambling away their lives. You think you saw one of them being carried on a stretcher, probably out of exhaustion. There's no way you're going to join your partner in reading her literature.

--

You are now Subject 108, a.k.a. "Whirlpool". You and Errai have just arrived at the Red Light District after taking a detour at the Medical District's pharmacy. Good thing you still have Rigel's hacked charge card but you wonder if the financial accountants will ever catch on to your economic fraud. Mu Cephei and Canopus are sitting on a nearby bench, the former noticing your presence. She stands up and approaches you.

>"Hey Whirlpool, Nicotine's been waiting for you for a long while. She won't even pay attention to my advances so you're gonna have to confront her. By the way, how's the dealing with the Medical District?"

You tell her that it ended up in a mutual truce, no violence occurred but he's still at his post. You also bring up the existence of the Management District.

>"Ah, nice catch. Dunno if it makes our objectives easier but at least we know what we're aiming for. I hope the other teams aren't making too much of a fuss."

Mu Cephei snaps Canopus from her reading binge and joins the two of you on confronting Nicotine.

Yesterday, I also realized how terrifyingly-different this quest would turn out had we let Errai die inside the alien tree (or at the gunman). We have a better chance at porking Betelgeuse but the costs outweigh the benefits.

Confront nicotine, then.
Have the others on standby in case she needs a quick tranq. Also warn them that she probably has a pheromone ability.

Simply put, just confront Nicotine with the others on standby.

Would you care to visualize that alternate reality as your way of making it up to us(hopefully where we score with Betelgeuse?

You tell your companions to back you up and immediately neutralize Nicotine should the situation turn sour. You also tell them that, based on some assumptions, she can emit dangerous pheromones and must take action before she can utilize it. As the four of you move to the district head, you realize that you're somewhat pulling off the pirate captain shtick.

The sultry woman notices your presence but takes a moment to process your new appearance.

>"Another makeover, huh?"

She also notices that Mu Cephei and Canopus are affiliated with you.

>"And you two, aren't you a couple of buzzkills for not telling me. But enough of that, back to the matter at hand. You're wonderin' why I need to talk to you so bad, huh? Well, I have myself some old papers from way back when and...your face just reminds me of someone here...let me check."

She bounces her glance between you and the contents of her folder.

>"Huh, ain't that dandy. I have a little question for ya: Does the name 'Wisteria Palmer' ring any bells?"

Wait, what? She chuckles for a bit, the look on your face giving it away.

>"I suppose I've gotten your attention now. I'm not lookin' for a fight, I just wanna share some -interesting- history."

After several hours of errands and planning this revelation 'carefully'

You agree to listen to her next statements while making a mental note to be vigilant of any suspicious change in personal disposition.

>"I betcha wonderin' why I know your real name huh? Well, this paper right here says so, along with other information."

You're confused, curious yet shocked. You ask why that paper should know so much about me.

>"'Cuz this sheet's holding your -real- story...and mine."

You tell her to get to the point.

>"You ever see that we have the same-enough hairstyle? What I'm sayin' is that you're my sister."

Canopus bursts out laughing, what's her problem? You assume she read a funny passage in that book of hers but apparently she finds this whole revelation incredibly trite and silly. Sure, you are somewhat skeptical about the district head's claim but that laughter is incredibly rude. Mu Cephei smacks the bibliophile while the rest of you glares at her. She quiets down, hiding half her face behind her book.

>"Thanks for piping down that stuck-up ditz over there. Anyway, I know that's a lot to take in, you might not even believe me, but you're welcome to jaunt over to my side so I can show you more. I just want to make up for some lost family time, nuthin' wrong with that."
