You are a Dark Spirit; a Jána of the Night born high astride the flickering embers thrust from the deep heart of the world, and this is your Quest.

>PREVIOUSLY:

You were called to the aid of an old Aniunakei warrior named Uluwehi, who you then Accorded with to defend his tribespeople from pirate invaders.
After succeeded with little difficulty you then Accorded with the Curer of the Aniunakei to retrieve her daughter from the Far Jungle, and return her safe and sound.

After being ambushed by a sea spirit who was Accorded to keep anything from reaching the Far Jungle you felt attracted to a fear emitting structure within a heavy bog.

>LAST THREAD:

Curious and purpose bound you delved into the ruins and found it filled with well-armed stone Aniunakei skeletons.
You explored the ruins and discovered several things, amongst them was a black smoking eye-orb that you decided to take.

It granted you memories and something of a power that separates you from mortal time and as you left you were halted by a seething wet Darkjána.
Persistent to talk of deals and trade you noticed a great set of translucent chains around it withering into black smoke.

Noticing its impending trick you decided to engage it in battle, restraining it and taking the Red-Tinge of its eyes.
Wanting to ensure it would never be a threat again you ventured to take its Second Eye; its Will and Mind, but were stopped by your own chains.

Being wary of attempting to Accord with the creature you interrogated the seething wet darkness and discovered the nature of Decrees.
After reinforcing the great withering chains upon the dark spirit with your Decree, you and your new friend traversed through a bog of skeleton warriors.

As you left the bog behind you noticed a faint blue glow and deciding to find its origins you stalked to intercept it while the forest became illuminated by a similar pale glow.
You discovered the source to be an earth spirit crowned with a circle of orchids and after successfully ambushing it and dodging its massive attacks you engaged battle.

As the fight continued it removed a flower from its crown and ate it, began to emanate amusement as its body took on its crown's azure haze, and seemingly waited for your next move.
You decided to retreat to get back to finishing your Accord, emanating peace and that you only attacked because of its spying and hunting behaviors.

In response it accused you of weakness, of cowardice, and frailty and timidity before shortly taking its leave after one last burst of condemnation.
Moderately irate you've smoldered upon some responses and courses of action.

A small breeze returns as it takes its leave and the azure tinge upon the forest wanes slowly with its departure. You examine the scene of your battle with concentration; the hills summoned to smash you intro trees, the mess of dirt and branch debris still clinging in the air, the two great sinkholes formed to trap you, and the vines and roots of the surroundings a half-formed mess everywhere it targeted you earlier.

More important than any of that is the light it infused the forest with, restricting your movements just enough to make you an easier target. You reevaluate that it would be a bad idea to underestimate the Earthjána, but still feel a strong desire to lay claim to whatever attainments it has. You did get several good strikes in, you remind yourself with glee.

You sense the presence of your inky companion just shortly before you see the torn earth moisten and feel a questioning emanation surface from his slightly askance gaze. You realize he’s asking for permission to speak, but with the azure orchid crowned earth spirit and its forest illuminating aura slowly retreating to the depths of the island you’ve got other things on your mind.

>>Follow it and wait for a good time to strike.
I'd like to listen to our little buddy but only if he keeps quiet and short. I'm scared he'll do something stupid like make a bunch of noise to get the Earthjana to come after us. As for attacking, I want to wait until he has his guard down and the lights have receded but I don't want to give him a chance to heal. We might also want to aim at the crown on his head if we successfully sneak up on him.

Recalling what Ijana said about earth spirits you don’t really want to give it a chance to heal, and you flicker warmly with a furtive thought that you could perhaps aim for its crown. After you feel it’s made its way a good distance you flit patiently along the shadows of the shattered forest, emitting an affirmative to the wet darkness’s request with an addition for him to keep very quiet. Though as you follow you do recall that it was his unhidden emanations that previously focused the attention of the Earthjána, and that it was your own red-tinged gaze that allowed you to sneak up on the spirit. As you think, a quiet warning tone seethes from between the fanged lips of your inky companion.

“It is a spirit of earths, but of plants and roots,” he begins as slithers behind your advance, “we are everlucky it is neither of the other kinds. Unlike our eyes the will and mind of earth spirits rests within their crowns, and we are everfurther lucky that its crown numbers only one.” You stop for a moment, mind ablaze with a question that maybe he had fought similar things before. You emit a question as to his advice, and he bows his head once again. “Eversolong as it is within a place of life like this its advantage will grow. Even now it knows exactly where I walk,” he seethes bitterly, emanating resentment. “For that kind they are always best dragged into the sea, where there are no trees and no plants, or fought through pure attrition but,” he hangs on the last term, moving up alongside you in your following of the earth spirit, “if it is smart it will remain in this forest. Most spirits know to keep to the domains of their advantage,” he finishes with a nod of concern at the faintly glowing flora along your path. “It will be unable to attack you if you take its crown. Yet certain are all earth spirits of their vulnerability. They will defend it far more than whatever body the crown rests upon.” He finishes with a slight nod.

>Try to taunt it into attacking and retreat to the skeleton bog- your inky companion can help.
>Have your companion try to distract it while you sneak up to take its crown.
>Though its far from here if you and your companion work together perhaps you could drag it into the sea.
>Perhaps you should let it go; this steadily sounds like it will become a more difficult fight.

>>Have your companion try to distract it while you sneak up to take its crown
It might be an advantage to stay in his domain since he might get a little overconfident. Have our buddy try to get its attention while we emit annoyance and a sense of defeat before moving in closer to sneak up on him.

Regardless, please roll me 3d20+35 [Jána of the Night(Twilight Shadows)+30, +5 Distracting companion] vs DC 48 [Hidden Modifiers]

I'm beginning to think it may have been a grave error on my part for trying to run on the 4th of July weekend, but I'll continue as planned.

Emitting a small amount of defeat with an undertone of annoyance, to which the wet darkness at your side emits some regret, you focus to him to him your plan. He’ll distract, you’ll sneak, and that azure crown will find itself very removed. He nods his fanged visage and you part ways in opposing directions.

Flitting yourself along the shadows of palely lit ferns, grasses, and the passing tree, sensing the inky darkness and the earth spirit haven’t met you notice the earth spirit has stopped. You muse that he must have sensed your closing companion and is busy focusing on his location, and so you return to stalking until you see the now familiar azure haze of the small vine treading creature and its emanations of hunting intent looking aimed the direction opposite of yourself. You observe closely from within the shadows of the glowing flora, waiting for the moment when the spirit is distracted, until it starts turning its gaze slowly in your direction. You blaze with some mild amount of panic that using the same strategy as before may have been a mistake- until you see a small bit of mud flying through the air.

It splashes with a heavy thud against the earth spirits face, whose glowing body and undulating vines rear back and freeze with an emanation of surprise. In one single moment the entire forest is awash with a resurgence of its ire, and just as the forest begins to move it uses its vines to knock away another flying mud ball shot from the distance. It begins to advance away from you while wiping off the wet dirt until two smaller ones splatter against its face- then it appears to cease caring and surges the entire forest in the direction of the wet darkness. Beyond the earth spirit and through its interference, from where the mud balls sailed, you sense the barest issuance of spiteful elation. You feel you’ll have to thank your inky companion as some point.
>>
Distracted and attacking elsewhere you flit gracefully through the shadows behind it, warming the air as you go. Now as close as you are the azure crown of orchids and its glowing body are severely bright- restricting your shadows even further. You muse that so long as it’s not aware of you that doesn’t make a difference, and alight your limbs upon the barest shadows of its crown. You pull, but the crown remains still, and your smoky form wavers with the slightest panic as you feel the earth below you and the spirit sinking.

Quickened by the sudden potential to be trapped and crushed your searing smoky limbs surge with as much strength as you can muster and pull the crown up hard- but the spirit quickly grasps it, and as you pull up it comes with it as the forest ceases its purposed movement. Hanging vine-clutched to its crown within your limbs it emanates a great panic, it squeaks with widened eyes a direct emission of word bound to soul. It points to the sensing cord resting upon one of your limbs and then to itself and its crown, and then again to you, though what it emits is too rushed to discern details. As it struggles in a fitful panic to keep itself aloft the seething wet darkness of your companion uncoils his form from the shadows and observes with focus.

>If it wants an Accord of some sort for keeping its crown, you’ll do just that- and greatly in your favor. (details to be decided later)
>An Accord with this thing hardly matters to you. Have your inky companion help you rip away its orchid crown.

I want more companions, but this guy is way to strong for me to happily play along with him. I just want to be sure he can't hurt us or our buddy while we discuss what we should do with him.

You think evenly of an Accord or perhaps a Decree, although you’re worried about the distant immensity you felt when you reinforced the chains upon the inky darkness. Further, examining its chains they remain as before; cracked, nicked, and strangely shriveled. They emit something vigilant and something defensive.

Your companion advances and begins resting his claws on the head of the small spirit, long neck craned askance beside the creature in a cold abyssal gaze. Its trailing vines writhe as it emits rushed varieties of panic with undertones of fear.

Looking down at the thing and the azure crown within your grasp you consider the potentials. You could Accord, you suppose, that the “payment” for the action of letting it keep its crown is a service from it of some sorts, though you don’t know the power of such a thing and you have only so much cruor to seal the deal. You could try reinforcing its chains with your own conditions as you did with the inky darkness, but they’re in tatters and they hang loose, and still further you’ve only so much cruor remaining. Your inky companion asks permission to speak for a moment as you think.

“A payment or offering of sorts,” he seethes, “eversomuch as it might allow, can be Accorded to be returned to the one who offered it first.” You emit a slight desire for clarification. “If one should pay in advance with an action or service the Accord will, once weakened, prompt the return of the payment.” You emit, further, a question of how powerful that is. “As Accords are just weaker curses,” he says, now looking up to you from the eyes of the frightened earth spirit, “they are correspondent in power to their sealing.” He finishes, then returning his abyssal glare to the small earth spirit hanging between you. “Be warned,” he seethes as he looks into the creature’s eyes, “an Accord that is forced will is onlyever backed with the power of its sealing. It will have no further promise.”

He appears content emanating viciousness and other purposed threats towards the squirming fearful thing while you consider your options, recalling the night and your true mission here to return Ijana’s daughter. Within a jungle this thing is no doubt powerful, and you muse that it’s a very good thing your inky companion is so familiar with these things; otherwise you might’ve been lost at a crossroads.

Small earth spirit still held aloft, you emit a question to your inky companion of how you’d get its attainments, and further if he’d be able to get some in turn. Without averting his gaze from the spirit he indicates by claw the multiplex of flowers aligned upon the spirits crown, the azure tinged haze still emanating its great variety of nuanced effluences.

“That is where, brother,” he seethes viciously, “yet evermore unfortunate it is,” he continues sadly, “that its innermost nature is opposed to ours. It is of the earths, not born of darkness. It will be difficult for either of us to take any one thing, and evergreatly more than that.” He finishes, abyssal gaze maintained on the spirit. You emit a small question as to why, to which he responds, “your chains are hardly damaged. You have reinforced mine. You damaged their links when you,” he slows, emanating something cautious, “nearly took my will and mind. Among all things it is the fetters that remain constant.” He moves his tail rhythmically, awaiting your conclusion.

Armed with this new information you will thus;

>After ripping off its crown you’ll take something from its crown.
>Perhaps you’ll have your inky companion take something from the crown.
And further, for after this;
>You’ll make your way to the depths of the islands where the little girl is.
>You’ll go to that high place where you encountered emanations of lust- the ones with mysterious undertones.

Could you share why? In the few sessions I've done I've received very little in the way of criticism and I'm eager to put some to use. Even if its not strictly constructive I'd like your thoughts.

So far, you've only obtained cruor by sealing deals. You could certainly try taking it from others, although logically since you'd ask your companion about that I'll sneak it in the next post.
>>
Examining the spirit between you and your companion you question him on taking its vital cruor. “Cruor is mortal life already promised,” he seethes, emanating some subdued fear. “That you think to take it from others is,” he pauses as you feel him trying to construct something from a complex number. “Evermind not. Even with teeth and a voice I cannot bite and consume the spiritual essence of others. I know from my own time among the Aniunakei that no spirit they faced was capable of such an act.” He’s evading something, you’re sure, even if the remainder was genuine. “Although,” he adds bitterly, “there are curses of sorts that can achieve something similar, but it is not so simple to reach out and take life already promised.” He finishes as you feel he leaves several things unsaid.

With one last downwards gaze at the quivering thing you emit a desire for aid in the task, to which the seething darkness nods. His great claws still lying on the earth spirit’s head push down with sudden force, and it squeaks desperately as it’s removed from its crown and slumps heavily on the ground. The crown, still within semisolid limbs of your searing darkness, dims its azure haze alongside all the forest around you.

Looking at its downcast form you note it does not actually have many tools of itself, other than its vines. And so examining the flowers you’re finding yourself having a much harder time discerning what is valuable and what isn’t, there’s just so many and the nuances of each emanation freely interfere with each other. It takes some time, and some of the help from the inky darkness’s indicative claws, but you manage to figure out which ones correspond with things of value- though they’re still quite difficult to discern.

You can’t be sure which are soul aspects and which are abilities, and you recall a similar uncertainty when looking at the despairing stone and the black-eye orb. Except these are locked in flowers.

You form a semisolid smoky hand around the hazy blue orchid of the crown and tug. The small earth spirit between you bursts into a fit of slapping its vines against you with little force behind him. You continue doing this until the inky wet darkness offers his claws for aid and cuts it for you, emanating something of joy at the situation. Holding the hazy blue orchid in your hand you wonder at how you’re supposed to get what’s inside, until it starts withering into your form- and your semisolid hand becomes edged in a deeply darkened azure haze.

>Dire Imbuement: You can imbue emanations strongly into the parts of the world that match your nature, and through that imbuement you may exert a certain level of control over them. However, you have to remain still to focus it properly. Somehow innately, you feel that these would be emanations that both mortals and spirits could feel.
>>Of Darkness Born and Fire Made: Given your nature Dire Imbuement applies well to darkness and fire.
>You feel innately that there is more to this ability than what you’ve gained so far…

>>>This effect is additive to the Vital Cruor threshold you passed that allows control over the paths flames take upon their fuel.

You reexamine yourself, your semisolid smoky limbs still edged in a deep dark blue. You then extend an emanation of curious to the darkness around you, and the dark responds in kind, filling the night with a similar feeling. You then try to twist and wreath the darkness as you’ve done so many time before, but instead at a greater distance. You manage to cover areas in greater concentrations, and the air dries as a result of your testing, but no fires spark and you can’t form anything searing, though you feel that eventually you ought to be able to.

It appears to fade readily when you refocus your attentions on your inky companion, or when you move from where you’re standing. You recall that the plant spirit had essentially remained in place whenever it had attacked, and muse on the circumstance until the seething wet darkness begins casting a wary gaze across the forest. Thinking that you should reward him for his continue aid you offer him the despairing stone.
>>
“No,” he seethes, and at your surprise he reveals a fanged smile and points to the sensing cord on your wrist. “That is a Curer’s Cord, and it is like all things they have. It is cursed. Only a Curer can unseal cursed stones like that,” he says, indicating the despairing stone with mild disgust. “If you know a Curer of the Aniunakei,” he pauses as you sense a deeply subdued anger, “let us depart before night ends.” He says with a nod, once again leaving something unsaid. Your thoughts are parted when you hear the small crownless spirit between you squeak in high pitched emanations of anger. You find yourself quickly holding its head down as it raises its groping vines to take it back, emanating deep frustration as it struggles in place.

“Keep the crown,” your inky companion urges, “It will keep trying but it is everunlikely to succeed,” he seethes with vicious joy, emanating some odd measure of focus. You agree, forming another semisolid limb and carrying it just above where the small spirit trailing your movements can reach. You grip the sensing cord again, and again you feel the distant emanations of the girl and the other curious place. You elect that with night just now having passed being half over you’ll go quickly to the depths of the island where the sensing cord’s strongest connection rests.

You feel yourself making good time, your inky companion moistening the ground while you dry the air, and the squeaky earth spirit persisting in its attempts. It eventually resorts to trying to hop up to nab it, and at a later point goes up ahead of you and then attempts an ambush from above with the same aim. All fail of course, as you can easily feel its emanations.

You manage to test your Imbuement by making it lose it's way in the darkness for several moments, unable to sense much of its surroundings or see anything at all, though you do not test it further so you can keep moving. You note your inky companion keeps moving his gaze across the forest with certain emanations of joy and success, though you find it difficult to place the origins of his feelings.

Shortly, you come upon the ruin’s from which the sensing cord grants the clearest emanations, and through it you feel the soul of what is certainly Ijana’s daughter. They’re just as before; anger, confusion, and something sullen, though the cord does not grant inclinations of intent. You pause at the edge of the ruins while the seething wet darkness emanates some strange profound sort of joy you can’t place, and begin trying to sense the ruin’s effluences.

They’re deep, you feel, and speak of ceremony and passing festivals, large throngs of people and great repetitive argument. They ruins themselves do not appear to have any dark or downward entrances, so you surmise it must be something upon the edge of a village or city. The memories of your aspects speak something of a capital. You consider your options as the earth spirit continues pestering, turning the cord in a semisolid smoky limb while the seething wet darkness is somehow very happy about something. The Healer’s daughter, you muse, is likely somewhere within.

Curious about the emanations coming from your inky companion you direct him to clarify. “I am pleased,” he seethes with genuine joy, “they got what they deserved,” he says, his fanged grin nodding towards the ruins. “I only wish I could’ve seen who put them down,” he seethes solemnly. You emit a further need to clarify, and the command to. “It would be an everodd creature indeed that loves those who’ve chained them,” he responds evenly.

You emit to him your mission, a word bound to soul concerning the daughter of Ijana, imparting faint visions of the circumstance. His claws dig into soil with an emanation of anger. “I knew somewhat of that possibility when I saw that cord upon you. A Curer’s daughter may not be powerful but they possess the same blood. You think to warn me those creatures,” he seethes angrily, “when it was a Curer’s doing that I was stuck in a temple waiting for someone to disturb that orb?” He questions with his abyssal gaze askance.

Not responding to his anger and with your questions answered you focus upon the sensing cord in your smoky hand and depart with him at your side. The ruins themselves you find to be painted, or so it looks, as much of it has flaked away to reveal motley red stones beneath. You notice a great towering structure in the distance and marvel for a moment at its construction, and emit a question to your companion of its name. “That would be the central-“ he stops, rethinking it for a moment before returning with glee, “The former central temple of the Aniunakei. Where each sect would convene upon their future.” He takes one good and pointed look around the ruins. “Everasmuch good it did them,” he finishes with a fanged smile.
>>
Taking a deeper look yourself, the plants have overgrown the paths that must’ve been roads and the impressions worn into them from walking appear filled with a silvery shine. It’s odd as it’s completely dark, and seems as though reflective of the night’s starlight. They emit a deeper feeling of ceremony, and a strange similarly to the undertone of sacredness possessed by both Ijana’s knife and the bog structure. You note the barest gathering of clouds high above the motley-red ruins, and feel quite curious at their suddenness. As you and your two companions, one wanted and one not, walk upon the paths towards the soul your red-tinged abyssal gaze reveals movement from a far corner to your left. You turn your smoldering focus on it hard.

There are no emanations, and in fact in a wide range of where you’re looking you can’t sense any. Then, and very suddenly, they return to what the ruin’s revealed before. Then there’s movement to your right, and you focus on that. No emanations, also once again in a wide berth. They return in time, and your inky companion looks at you for the assent to pursue. You do not get the time to assent as a strike of thunder breaks the silence of the night and rain begins to pour hard upon all the ruin’s in a rolling clash of water.

You note that you feel somehow subdued by it- though the issue is largely the weight of the rain upon your semisolid limbs, though your seething companion seems unaffected. The previously pestering earth spirit appears to be emanating profound amusement, though its only thrashing in the sudden storm’s water.
>>
Having an inkling you focus on the sensing cord in your hand and it emanates something it had when you first arrived in the Far Jungle; they’re joyful, amused, and thrilled. Your seething companion asks permission to speak, and you allow it so. “We need to leave this rain,” the inky darkness urges, “quickly. I cannot control these waters,” and he demonstrates so by thrashing his tail ineffectually in the quickly growing puddles.

You consider your options with steadily growing concern, though you emit nothing.
>Pursue the movements and the sudden emanation gaps you saw earlier.
>Same as before, except have your inky companion pursue them.
>You could perhaps let what’s causing this come to you, but you’re unsure.

You accept your companion’s suggestions, and seek out one of the many stone houses. Your shadow flickers fitfully amongst the night rain while the inky darkness follows you. “He’s not following,” he says, and you turn to look at the earth spirit he’s indicating, still pleasantly thrashing in amusement. “For no reason I can think of would one of his kind forsake their crown.” You emit a question as to why that’s relevant as you each step into one of the stone houses. “Because it does not make sense,” he answers simply.

Looking around the house you’ve stowed in you see through its dark more puddles of the silvery substance, and as well as more of the motley-red stone under the well faded paint of the walls. You look across the way through the night and rain, and see that it’s similar for a number of other houses on the street. As you stand looking out the window and he cranes his long head to observe the street you emit a questioning statement to all the silvery sheen, to which he returns genuine ignorance.

A strike of lightning parts the sky with searing light, and you and your companion find yourself momentarily forced away from the shadows of the doorways and windows as the night is suddenly removed- similar to that as when Davidge’s blast pushed you aside. It’s only for a moment, and as the thunder rolls upon the ruins in angry vibrations you quickly grasp the items you dropped- the crown, cord, and despairing stone. You return your placement to an area where the lightning’s searing light won’t force you into any movements, and your companion does the same as close to the doorway as he can manage.

You order him to guard it as you each sense more gaps in emanations, above the house, behind the house, in some of the houses across the street and along the road, though your companion emanates that he sees no movement. They’re sporadic, nearly seeming random, though you do not sense them in the distance. You begin to grow a concern that you may be trapped, though you emit nothing.
>>
Quickly pouring your mind over your options you consider the darkness of the night, and your newfound power over it. Whatever is causing this ought to be able to respond to your emanations, and so you order your inky companion to guard the door while you focus on a very specific and very widespread imbuement.

You sit in a semi-meditative posture and focus on the dark of the night around you. Your smoky form grows edged in a deep azure, and you push through the shadows of the night as well as you can to emanate your duty; of word bound to soul, a sense of wanting peace; not seeking any conflict, and a desire to protect that which the accord requires you to protect; an orchid adorned little girl. After waiting a moment for some sort of response or result all you feel is another gap in emanations, but this one much greater, much closer, and singular as all other gaps disappear.

The world shakes with another searing flash of light- but the vibrations are not distant, you feel them shake your body physically and spiritually as the ground rumbles and the house you’re within shakes. You feel a supreme fear emanating from someone- and once your senses clear it appears to be your inky companion, he indicates by great claw outwards towards the street. You order him to tell you what he sees, though he remains staring. “Look,” he whispers quietly. And so you flit gracefully through the shadows towards the door, and look out at the rain rocked street where his gaze is aimed.

The stone house next to yours is a pile of smoldering motley-red debris. The silvery sheen around you stops emanating its undertone of sacredness, and in a wide berth where you’re standing all emanations vanish.

You decide to take a closer look at the silvery sheen, or at least one of the puddles of it amongst the motly-red floor. Your inky companion emanates a very high degree of fear, a loss of patience and some quickened readiness, but for the moment you feel the need to divine what this stuff is.

You turn a searing smoky limb through the substance and find it rather solid. It’s heavy, and it looks almost like metal- though it moves fluidly. You emit something at it and it appears to hold it, reinforce it even, and it continues to do so. It’s a very stark difference to the warrior’s channeling mask, or the Curer statue’s marks, both of which only held emanations for a short period of time. You inky companion sees fit to ruin your examination with his fearful prodding to allow him speech, and you allow so, though with some reluctance.

“We should leave,” he seethes, “that strike was purposed. If so-“ He does not get to finish as all your vision and spiritual senses become overturned by a sudden searing light. Your limbs warp and contort as all your body and being searches for shadow amongst the storm of light- but you’ve no place to flicker to.

>Vital Cruor -8.
>>>Current Vital Cruor: 6/??.

You realize in bland agony that this is the first time you’ve truly been hit by something- for all your memory affords you you’ve never been issued this much pain and suffering in a single moment. When next the night reveals itself to your red-tinged abyssal gaze you feel deadened to the world. Emerging from within the shadows of the smolder motley-red rubble you move a smoky limb and find more difficult to cling to physical objects. You search for the emanations of the despairing stone and the sensing cord, as well as the crown that you’d previously held. The crown, you feel, is within the rubble somewhere, alongside the despairing stone. You search for the sensing cord of hair that had been on your wrist, but you feel nothing amongst the emanations of the rubble or ruin’s that matches it.

You companion doesn’t look much better than you, as you note the inky darkness within the shadows of the house across the street emanating pain much greater than even your battle had inflicted on him, he coils fearfully while you plan your next course of action.

You note more pockets and gaps of emanations as before, random, seemingly unfocused. Awaiting something. You recall blandly how the earth spirit ceased following you.

Flitting away the dulling of your senses you search amongst the rubble for the crown and despairing stone, the rubble you note is thoroughly warm- the rain steams as it hits it. You don’t afford yourself a moment to enjoy it, instead tugging hard on the crown beneath the motley-red debris. The flowers are mostly intact with only the outermost edges of the orchids singed. You find yourself hoping the small plant spirit is suffering from it, but you’ve got greater concerns.

The despairing stone you find much easier, it appears to have skipped to a corner of the house where not much of the steaming rubble collapsed. As you grasp each fully you flicker to look at your companion across the street, and note that the random pockets of lost emanation around you start to converge similarly as to when you were in the house you’re standing in now.

You gesture by shadowy limb harshly to in the direction of the greater temple, but he emits only confusion. A wide gap of emissions overtakes everything in front of you as you become unable to sense any emanation from the house he occupies, or from the inky darkness of your companion.
>>
Though you can’t sense it you can see the fear within the twin abyssal spheres of his amorphous coiling form. At your repeated and rushed gestures he emits that as before the he can only barely move the rain, and as his domain are the shadows of water he can only barely move throu- he doesn’t get a chance to continue; You both feel the sudden loss of the emanations focused hard upon his discovered position.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY8KhIRmr6I

He seethes himself halfway out the doorway as you force yourself into hard movements along the shadows- flitting gracefully in long strides through the heavy darkness of steaming rain and across the street. Grabbing one great extended claw in as many limbs you can muster you wreath yourself in darkness and flicker your smoky form away along the street with your inky companion pulled hard by your own shadows.

In nearly as few moments as when your grip upon a soul you feel it now -the incoming burst- and you pull yourself and the seething wet darkness into a home as another eruption of searing light pierces the night. You hear clearly the smoldering of rubble and the fresh storm-birthed steam upon it.

Then you feel the loss of emanations upon your position again- and return to a hard pull to another house. Another strike reduces the house to rubble, and you find your inky companion looking at you with no restrained gratitude, and then a return to panic as your position is discovered again. You pull yourself and him along the dark towards the temple- the house behind you exploding in searing light as you round a corner to avoid being pushed out of the dark, and again your position is found.

You rush from house to house, from searing blast to darkened night, amongst steaming rain and hard rolling thunder, your tearing of shadows contorting the night in your wake as you rush towards up the great steps of the temple and one last blast forces each of your forms to shift into its dark. The storm of lightning then strikes many multiple times upon the steps where you’d been standing.

As your senses realign you feel your inky companion coiled beneath you mostly amorphous while your semisolid smoky darkness calms from the wreathing you insisted. You content yourself with the moment of relaxation as the rain rolls across the ruins, feeling rather safe for the moment and your inky companion emitting much the same. You conclude that Ijana has not paid you nearly enough for this Accord. Keeping your relaxation short, you flicker to the positions of where your crown and despairing stone fell from the forced light and begin taking a hard look at your surroundings.

The temple interior is nearly devoid of the paint or covering that the houses had, all is arranged as the motley-red stone from before, and it appears you’re in an atrium of sorts- a place for admittance or observation, though your aspects seem vague on its deeper notions. There are many doorways and portals to other chambers, and many emanations, so much to such a degree that it makes you feel unfocused and dazed. From the great open path in front of you you feel something of immense sacredness, from another to the far side you feel some great thrilled joy, from another you sense a deep non-mortal suffering, but these are simply the standouts. You feel this place is giant- you would not want to get lost here.

“Curses,” your seething inky companion states to grab your attention, “this place is all curses.”

You flit gracefully along the shadows of the inner temple, focusing hard upon the emanation of non-mortal suffering. Your inky companion treads close by and gives consistent emanations of distraught fear with undertones of hesitation. For something that had been aiding warrior’s in battle for such a long time you find it odd, so you order the question. “If the Curer responsible for that storm or the spirit who caused it is here how are you not afraid? They only need to be so close to a spirit to seal them, and everthen only need to speak a sacrifice to enact such sealing,” he seethes bitterly.

In spite of the difference in size you form a pair of semisolid smoky limbs and grip his fanged visage, doing the best to pat his face as some sort of mollifying gesture is recalled by one of your aspects. “That does not help.” He seethes bitterly with an undertone of something doubtful. Undettered by his fears you continue onwards and inwards towards the location you deemed curious. You turn into a room, some sort of antechamber, and find it leading down amongst crushed statues of various creatures. “Jána of the past,” he seethes the clarification. You wonder deeply on each of their aspects and tools, and of their domains and significances, but refocus when the properties of the surroundings change in some strange wink of light.

Plainly, the room ceases to be a room, though you hardly feel surprised as it opens up into a large yawning cavern. You’re steadily growing hard to impress considering the events that’ve led you here. “That was the illusory barrier we crossed. It is much weaker than I remember,” he seethes distantly. The cavern is permeated with a cloudy purple fog that doesn’t seem to rest within the chamber- it moves in circles amongst great stones though you don’t feel nor hear wind. Amongst the murk are stones that glimmer, and though they shed light it does not constrain your form. You find it curious, its as though the light stops upon your form, and you feel no less impaired here than when you’re in perfect darkness. Your companion asks to speak, which you allow.

“The Shining Stones. It is here the Aniunakei receive the name of their home. As each warrior I’ve known has spoken proudly of,” he seethily finishes with an emission of condescension. You remember well, Uluwehi spoke of them very proudly indeed. You feel they are the source of the non-mortal suffering, and if your companion is to be believed then they’re cursed.

Looking at him he appears to be in deep concentration, emanating too many nuanced things to clearly discern, so you affix your gaze to the shining stones and the false light they give the chamber.

You emanate a question of touching to your inky companion, alongside an allowance to speak. “Upon all moments I’ve known the Aniunakei claim it grants them the name of their home. I am evercertain they are strongly cursed. All things in this place are.” He tilts his head in a contemplative gesture, “I would not try, yet as much as I can tell,” he looks at you pointedly, “you seem inclined to such risks.”

Curious, you question the seething darkness what would happen if you took one. “Take one?” He ponders, laying a hard abyssal gaze upon the massive shining stones. As he looks back to you he adopts an easily seethed tone of whimsy. “Everimpressed I would be.” Well, you figured it was worth the question. Though you wonder what if you could break a piece off, and emit the further question. “Order me to leave before you do,” he seethily remarks.

Noticing that he keeps returning to thoughts awfully hard for you to read you order an end to his silence upon them. “Within the moment,” he seethes bitterly, “the evergreat litanies of fate and each their paired eyes were taken from me,” he hesitates slightly with an emanation of wariness, “my name was taken as well. I have not sensed it in our journey here, and I can think of no other places where it would reside.”

Certain of that you decide to try something- something you’ve tried with the channeling mask and the stone Curer’s marks, basic soul to soul emanations. First, curiosity. It yields no results, seeming to slide off the stone. Then, a small trepidation, as pure as you can manage. It also slides off. Growing frustrated you attempt to emit a desire to learn, which also seems apparently refused. You hear the seething wet darkness chuckle at your experiments, but decide to try something else, something you’ve felt from numerous things; the undertone of the non-mortal fear of the bog structure, the knife with which Ijana made her offering, and the silvery sheen that formed semisolid puddles in the streets of the red ruins.
>>
You emit sacredness, as close as you can to it, tinged with a great depth of respect- trying very hard to mimic what Uluwehi had emitted towards the elders and to you yourself the moment your Accord was set to rest.

The stones shine and the purple mist begins to circle fiercely, though windless and silent. The seething wet darkness beside you emits a small amount of curiosity, but a much greater level of wariness. They emit the same non-mortal suffering as before, but the undertone they’ve adopted is nearly malicious.

>Perhaps touch them now, they seem to have changed.

Taking your companion’s suggestion in earnest you shift out of the chamber, there’re too many uncertainties regarding these shining stones for you to just touch them outright. You look back as you leave, your red-tinged abyssal gaze feeling nothing further as the mist remains in orbits around the stones. The seething darkness at your side emanates something of a compliment as you each return to the deep shadows of the temple atrium.

Within the deep red stonework the emanations feel harshly lessened. Before they were confusingly numerous and nearly uncountable, now they feel defined and focused, like the nuances were drawn or taken away from the place. The seething wet darkness emanates genuine ignorance before you ask, and so you’re left with some clearer choices than last you’d felt, though no less questions.

From the great open path from where you’d felt immense sacredness you also now feel something of a history; drum backed chanting, deep voiced singing, offerings given and taken and grantations abound. Underneath you feel something profane as well, something waiting in anticipation, though it does not feel at all like the vileness emitted from the sea spirit.

“Sneak,” your inky companion seethes, “if you must go that way, sneak. I do not know what could have made its home here, evernor what the creature you’ve been sent for will have done to stop you, and yet,” he presses a hard look into the darkness of the great doorway, “that was the chamber of confluence. Though most would Accord spirits in person, that place was used as a surrogate method.” He emanates wariness, but not quite as severe as before and not fearfully either.
>>
One moderate emanation only just revealed by the fleeting of the ruin’s bewildering issuances seems to be something of multiple angers, something high and flying, and you feel it resting somewhere above the temple. The seething dark asks allowance, and you give so. “A sky dweller no doubt,” your inky companion says with clear derision, “it is for all the moments we were out there the one most likely responsible. It would not be a battle if it stays outside since,” he looks to you with an emanation of focus, “we each are in our reduced states.”

From the doorway at the far side of the chamber you still feel the joy from before, though its thrill appears reduced. Emanations lessened all around you discern easily- it’s the little girl, or you feel it must be with as mortal as it feels- just on a further side within the temple. You may not have felt inclinations from the sensing cord but the matching of the feelings is too consistent for it to be anything but, though you remind yourself to stay wary. Considering the trap that had been outside and the viciousness of the sea spirit you very seriously consider that that may be the most dangerous path of all.

>Sneak to the Chamber of Confluence, you’re curious of its details and what seems to wait there.
>Though it’s dangerous maybe you can get the drop on the sky spirit yourself, though weakened you emit nothing after all.
>Same as above, but instead maybe you can try the distraction plan again with your inky companion.
>Though wary to do so and surrounded by much else you feel the Accord is your highest priority. You’ll warily stealth to the location of that soul.
>Same as above, but if you can avoid the sky spirit perhaps you don’t have to walk to where the little girl is; You can instead try to find a way in from the outside, though your inky companion will have to stay put.
>Something else much considered. (write-in)

You’ll sneak to the confluence chamber- though you emit an order for your inky companion to stay put. “Wise once again, brother,” he seethes, extending the last word just a bit, though his emanations return to indiscernible nuances as he observes the ruins. You have an inkling that it may be intentioned, but put it to rest as you flit gracefully along the long darkened ancient red pathways.

The great door, like the smaller one to the shining stones, opens up into a descending hall. The leavings of ages and time are marked upon the former works; colorful but chipped mosaics, pillars of windows leaning dangerously out of position, and a very many holes in the ceiling from which cascading streams of water fall nosily into various crevices. As you flit upon the shadows of walls the caved in and certainly deep pits in the red stonework have you mildly curious, there’s a great number of them and they seem irregular. It’s a questionable thing, you find, the logic of having floors with such deep wide spaces beneath them.

Having a second thought, you place the crown and despairing stone just before continuing into the long hall; you know well that they could very easily be sensed. You muse a question as to why the Aniunakei enjoy making these sorts of long branching constructions, but find little innate knowledge to reprieve the demand. You make your way past with ease, being very careful not to disturb any of the fragile looking supports or the waters, as each thing appears to hold some unique form of emanation. You feel certain it would take some time to learn them all, but your mission tugs at your senses of time, you feel quite certain the night is half over, though it matters little in a place as dark as this.

Your ruminations are interrupted by the former sense of anticipation, and as you alight through one final doorway threshold you see where it’s coming from. You freeze first at the sheer size of the chamber, and then further when you notice its occupant.

A spirit, and feeling very nearly close to the earth spirit from before but much different; it has two crowns and a rather condensed, or perhaps subdued, aura. It stares at the doorway where you’re standing with a feather faced gaze, although the room is completely dark and you’re certain it can neither see nor sense you. The eyes are a sharp light red and the way they shine through the darkness has you concerned, but as you move around the chamber entrance you note no movements from it.

Observing its nature as well as you can you find it emitting only bland anticipation, nothing fierce nor vile, and as it sits on four legs it reveals sharp teeth with something like a yawn and then a short crack of its jaw. It emits blander anticipation after, though with some odd nuances you don’t feel close enough to discern. You ponder that it might be sensing your inky companion within the antechamber, as its bored gaze remains solidly on the doorway.

Certain that you are properly obscured from its senses you look around the chamber of confluence, and the many great mosaics within. They each of very different emanations, and the supreme amount of sacredness you felt before- which is much stronger here now. The chamber itself is a great wide circle, the earth spirit sitting near the center upon a colorful and more well preserved design of swirling flowers, while the walls of the chamber are covered in very detailed engravings and mosaics, and the ceiling as well.
>>
What strikes you is how large the depictions of various spirits are upon the walls. Engraved and colored upon the right wall of the circular chamber is a great serpent with rubies embedded in the eyes, it appears to be holding a large circle with many lines within and under it all are depictions of what appear to be formations of soldiers. It has one clawed hand outstretched to a mosaic to its right, though where or what the hand had outstretched to appears purposefully chiseled and very little remains of it. Only some ships just beneath what was once the depiction offer any hint to its significance.

On the right wall of the circular chamber are another two; a great vine like creature similar to the plant spirit from before, though quite massive, it appears to be giving something to people below it but it’s difficult to discern exactly what. It too is holding a hand outstretched to another at its side although it appears to be met, and by something you’ve not seen of spirits so far. It is a stark white form vaguely like one of the stalking beasts Uluwehi had spoken of, while above it is depicted a bell within a blazing sun and to its side it is depicted a much smaller version of the form standing above an altar. It also appears to be giving something to the people beneath it- though it’s difficult to tell what from this distance.

The centerpiece is dark and from within its form is outlined four abyssal eyes by a dull white. It has horns, you note, that appear to be depicted to curve back in a wave, while you see no depictions of limbs or claws and the only further detail is a slightly feather edged darkness. It appears to be gazing upon withered figures surrounding it. It has the least amount of details around it, though it appears to take up the greatest amount of space.

The greatest is engraved upon the ceiling directly above the swirling floor. You have difficulty discerning anything from it, it appears to carry a multitude of tools in a strange multiplex of misshapen limbs, long spear-like claws, feathered wings, dark abyssal eyes and faded white rings. The only clear thing you can discern is that it’s a chaotic mess, and around it you see the outstretched hands of people and it resting whatever tool is closest upon their hands. Its emanations are the most confusing of all, and you wonder oddly at its nuances. All the other forms have some sort of altar placement beneath them, but you see nothing for what’s upon the ceiling.

Still, you remain quite curious and this spirit remains ignorant so you contemplate that you might explore these in turn rather easily.

>Try to discern better the ruby-eyed spirit and the chiseled form close to it.
>Same as above, but with the stark white form and the massive plantlike spirit.

You find yourself most focused upon the four-eyed darkness and the elders surrounding it and so you flicker your smoky form upon the edge of the chamber, ensuring you stay as far away from the two-crowned earth spirit as feasible. Flickering under it, and looking up at its horned gaze, you realize this section of the wall is slanted backwards- making the spirit look down upon whosoever stands at the altar in front of you, or perhaps downwards at the forms depicted beneath it.

The smallest appear to be depictions of children, or so you assume from how small they are, each resting or standing in multiple circles gazing intently at a great number of stone tablets. Though you find the languages upon them are curiously disparate; one appears formed of blocks, a variant of it close by is punctured blocks, another is of wide swinging interlocking curves, while another seems to be simplistic lines and markings, and yet another still appears only as a chaotic jumble of half-curved forms. There are more but you feel your mind focusing upon the complex emanations of the depiction, it is a singular one of learning and voice. You mull over something you recall Uluwehi saying to Davidge about language, but push the thought aside for now.

Looking up above the children are the withered figures that you now feel are clearly elders. They emanate something close to wisdom and are standing in formation reaching into their chests and just above are depicted the same figures raising up stark white spheres. The darkness itself emanates another complex feeling; something of a mentor and something of judgment, the undertone of wisdom resting much stronger on it than upon the elders. The only discernable difference from when you saw it at the entrance of the chamber is that the blur around its form are indeed feathers, though they’re roughly depicted. Innately, you feel yourself question how emanations can be held by these depictions, and although your imbuement mimics something like it these have no doubt lasted a much longer time.

The altar itself is a simple stone slab, lower than all the rest at just an inch above the ground, and its black stone makes you feel strangely reminiscent of something. It has no details or decorations, just a glasslike black flatness. Tracing a smoky limb across it you feel something of a great distance, and unfortunately little else, and so begin considering your options.

>It is an altar of offerings; perhaps you could try to mimic the depictions and give a soul aspect.
>Rather than a soul aspect you’d feel safer offering some cruor.
>Perhaps you could try Imbuement on the altar. (write-in what)

You decide upon an offering; you’ll give it your aspect of Withered Integrity, and so you attempt to mimic the elders reaching into their own chests- and find it incredibly difficult. You have to focus hard upon the aspect itself and you feel yourself calling the aspect through its memories. The judge pounding against the door screaming in vain as you ensure that he burns- and shortly you feel the small aspect within your hands, glowing dimly against the dark of the chamber.

>Maturation: 14/54
>TO; Maturation: 13/54

You hear the barest emanation of something stirring behind you, but you place the aspect as best you can upon the altar- and it sucks it in. The world does not erupt into tumultuous exhalations of dark- instead it is your body as you feel torn away from where you stand, as though your smoky form had been clutched by its darkness and shorn across a great distance. You ponder no further as a gravely stern voice pierces the abyss.

“Not Aniunakei.” Your mind begins to reel with piercing emanations of focus- like your being is splitting into pieces while you try to hold onto every part- and its every part you feel the great four abyssal eyes looking at. “You stole that. And others.” You know what it’s talking about, and yet you can’t focus on what its subject of speech is until you feel its attentions slipping to other things. “You decreed. Subjugated,” it echoes through the abyss. “Yet you offer. Yet from their Altar.” It relents its focus, you feel by lack of the former splitting of your being, and you realize the four abyssal eyes in front of you are not really there- you feel they are reflections, although it does emanate the same as the depiction before. “I am curious. What is it you seek?” The voice echoes sternly through the abyss.

Considering its words in this suspended place of eternal night you feel you should be very careful with your answer, although you hadn’t really thought about what to ask for your offering.

“Yet knowledge indeed,” the stern abyssal gaze answers before you do. “Your answer suits you,” it lectures gravely, “destroyers have always sought that fundamental power.” You question wh- “Do not yet question.” And so you don’t, and you let the silence extend. The emanations it gives off, of its pondering and its considerations, feel as though an immensity you cannot fathom. You wonder to see if it interrupts your thoughts again, and as it doesn’t you think of what effect this thing would have on you if you were in its presence. You don’t feel power, you realize, like the emanations of souls, just a piercing gaze.

“One fragment,” it declares sternly while you feel it ponder its own statement, feeling thankful that it wasn’t spoken at you. You take in the abyss surrounding you, its edges are not actually perfectly silent of the soulful effluences you so often sense the world suffused with. You feel something cold, some wind, something flying gracefully along great tumultuous shadows, and some measure of eternity beneath that.

“I will allow it,” states the grave abyssal gaze, “numbered three to the weight of each fragment of the first storm.” You ask for cla- “Question; Answer. You have three.” Its voices hangs with a heavy extension upon the last word, and an echo that only deepens as you consider your thoughts.

You emanate the question, and find that this time your thoughts are not initially inter- “Cloudseer by title,” it answers gravely, “I am as you. A parasite of realms primeval seeking fragments of the first storm. Not as you I am one who abstains from the Council of Balances. One who declines the games of mortals and spirits. One who is not what you sensed from the true abyss.” It knew you were guessing that, somehow, though you’re unsure how it would discern that through emanations. You feel its echoes finish as they waver through your darkness, and while everything it’s said so far has been spoken intensely and it emits nothing but severity and wisdom you almost feel, innately, as though it was asking you to question more. You recall easily from the depiction the similarity; something of a mentor.

You ask its location, and this time the answer is delayed as it closes its eyes. In fact it is delayed by a long time, and you feel the depths of its ponderings reach some point far beyond where they had before. You feel yourself becoming strangely cold as time progresses. It opens its four eyed abyssal gaze evenly, returning to its grave tone of before. “Find me yet upon the clouds of the moonlit land eternal.” Its echoes continue into the abyss, yet again for another long moment. You contemplate why that took so long to answer while you emanate a question of the orchid-adorned girl.

“That creature,” it says gravely and with slowness, “Has tried offering much. Yet far too much. I have denied its offerings many times. It seeks knowledge at nearly all costs. Yet it is a frail mortal with only itself to offer.” You feel it about to answer further; pondering something of another great immensity, but it seems to decline into silence for another long stretch. You’re feeling nearly frigid now, and so busy yourself swishing your smoky limbs in the cooling abyss while you await the end of the answer and your subsequent freedom from this place.

“Number four its Accorded allies. A two-treasured great one of the sky, a single-crowned small one of the earth, a smaller one-treasured one of the sky, a two-stranded fierce one of the sea. This moment the creature,” he pauses gravely as you feel its immense amount of focus, “is consuming knowledge. The tome is one I advised.” It finishes with one last severe echo. The cold fades as you feel the dark abate around you, and are quickly returned to the chamber.
>>
The two-crowned earth spirit, which you realize the thing called Cloudseer did not mention, has engaged in a semi-interested but still rather bored prowl over the dark surroundings closer to where you are. You evade it, though you see it snort with interest at something, while you begin reconsidering your options.
