Previously, we:
Became a lich
encountered some fucker in the basement
some homonculi came to talk to the fucker in the basement
we pretended to be the fucker in the basement
they are now helping us kill the fucker in the basement.
What could go wrong?

>>340927
>>340900
>>340935

You descend down the necropolis, with your entire army ready to fight, and with the homonculi scouting ahead for magical traps.
As you go to the 53rd floor, the first time you're there yourself, you notice a barrier. You could easily pass through but the Phantom Lord would know, which means that the Phantom Lord must've known about your previous incursions.
You continue through the floors, the homonculi, as promised, able to disarm every trap you stumble across. You go through what seems like endless dark tunnels, with the most interesting features being the occasional mushrooms or torches lining the wall. You finally reach the Phantom Lord, and he doesn't seem to have much of an army. Actually, he doesn't have any army.
Phantom Lord: "So, you finally reached me. You wan't to kill me? Go ahead. I've got nothing here."
This seems like a trap.

>What do you do?

>>
>>341059
Think we're strong enough?
Are any of the hormonculi noticing anything fucky?
Might also be worth asking our shadowlord, he has some experience with this guy and the last thing he wants is to be back under his control
>>
>>341025
Send in 20 skeletons to test for traps. Also watch behind for an ambush
>>
>>341025
You could join me as well you know.
>>
>>341069
You have no idea how many souls he has collected.

Focusing on the homonculi's chatter you can make out some small tidbits like:
"But he's a phantom"
"Are we sure we're with the right guy?"
"Yeah thats a phantom alright."

You ask your shadowlord whether he might have some ace up his sleeve.
"Whatever's happening, it's the best situation that could happen to him. Atleast that's what I've experienced him to be like."
>>
>>341077
>>341068

"You do not need to die. Come. join me"
The Phantom Lord contemplates this for a while, and the homonculi become slightly agitated.
"I thought we were supposed to defeat him?"
"I thought that dude was evil"
"What if this dude is just tricking us."

The Shadowlord becomes incredibly angry at this.
"You can't work with him! He'll betray you at the first chance!"
The Phantom Lord finishes thinking about it, and answers:
"Sounds good."
One of the homonculi speaks up
"Alright, the "enemy" is "defeated". How do we create more homonculi?"

>What do you do?
>>
>>341138
This, but if he decides to join us, grab him and absorb him.

>>
>>341199
He must have less souls than us if he has agreed to ally right? Seems like he's just shown he is weak.
Just all out attack as soon as he says yes, and don't give him the chance to get more souls or betray us?
>>
>>341199
Ask why the Phantom Lord has attacked us multiple times instead of offering an alliance in the first place.
>>
>>341234
You do realize he's sent one scouting party and attacked once?

>>341200
>>341203
>>341206
>>341217

"Alright, Lich, come over here, I need to talk with you."
You point at the Phantom Lord.
"Alright" He follows you into another room. "What is i-"
He's cut off as you grab him by the neck and start draining his souls, however, as soon as you do this, he starts to drain you!
"You think i wasn't ready for this? This is what it's all been leading up to! None of your minions have good enough magic to harm me. I've collected two thousand souls in my time. You have no cha-"
He's interruped by the sound of a blade cutting through him, and a quick glance over his shoulder shows 3 homonculi standing behind him, Ethereal Blades stabbed through his stomach. With the distraction and damage caused you easily start sucking his souls away, and by the time he recovers you have too many souls to be resisted.
The Homonculi speak up
"Now, the knowledge to create homonculi"

You have learned a new Undead: Soul Gatherer.
Like the Corpse Gatherer, gathers the souls from dead corpses, although the corpses become unusable after this happens
Created with 5 zombies and 15 souls.
You have learned a new Undead: Reaver of Life
An upgrade to the Skull Lord, much more powerful in the arts of death magic, and raises the slain enemies as allies. They also absorb the souls of slain enemies.
Created with a Skull Lord, 5 Skeletons, 5 Phantoms and 30 souls.
You have learned a new Undead: Shadowlord
you know what a Shadowlord is.
Created with 5 phantoms and 5 spectres and 20 souls.
You have learned a new Undead: Dread Giant
A hulking monstrosity capable of destroying armies in mere legions of size.
Created with a Giant and 10 souls.
You have learned a new Undead: Corpse Lord
A leader capable of directing 100 minions at a time with slight independence, enough to give combat efficiency, but not enough to cause a chance of rebellion.
Created with 10 zombies and 35 souls.
You have learned a new Minion: Homonculus
Basicly an artificial human. Tires slower than a normal human and is much smarter.
Created with clay, to form the body, the ashes of an undead, to symbolize the aspect of death, the roots of a dryad's sapling, to symbolize the aspect of life, and the blood of a living human, to imprint a master. You can make them free homonculi by using a homonculus's blood.

Before the homonculi leave, you tell them.

>>341819
>>341808
The dryad's forest is way off the west, not close to the mountains. You're also not a good enough pyromancer to start that kind of fire, and the dryad's could probably easily put it out.
>>341639
Although the Reaver of Life is too powerful to give independence without danger, you give the Shadowlord independence seeing as half his usefulness came from that.

>>341660
>>341706

After hearing the reports of giants being on the brink of extermination, you immediately think of the dread giant ressurection possibilities and lead an army of dread giants and ghouls along with the Reaver of Life and the Shadowlord.

When you arrive on the scene, you find no live thing at the battlefield. On the other hand, the battlefield is littered with corpses of human soldiers and giants. What catches your eye though, is that there are 3 unusual corpses. 3 dryad corpses. You send out a pulse of necrotic energy, resurrecting everything on the battlefield, although the dryads dont resurrect. Maybe they have some inbuilt resistance. These dryads will surely be fun to experiment with...

You've also started hearing reports from the homonculi that a new race is setting up to the south.
"It's not a race we've met before, that's for sure"

You and the Shadowlords start researching on how to properly use Xathridium. Although its hard without having the pure metal, you make decent progress.

You're more interested in doing research into what you can do with these dead dryads. You seem to be close to grasping a sort of undead mage thing, but you're not quite there yet.

Meanwhile, you sent off a Shadowlord to check out the new race and another one to spy on the humans.
The one checking the new race notes that it was a kind of slime-like humanoid. A brief check in on their minds revealed some basic info, like that their cores can be eaten for an increased magical aptitude, they have some very specific purpose, and that purpose is vaguely northward.

The Shadowlord sent off to spy see that they are deeply disturbed by something and are convening with the dryads, who seem even more disturbed. The Shadowlord flied in closer to find out what it was and nearly got bkasted by the druid. Thankfully he did find out though, and they were disturbed over the disappearance of the army's dead overnight.

You keep researching the dryad's corpses, hopefully this time you'll be able to figure out how to make undead out of them.
The souls of the dryad are tough nuts, unwilling to resurrect, but with a little push towards the right direction (in the form of possession through other souls) you get them resurrected into a new form of undead. These undead have magical aptitudes for all kind of magic, but most importantly, they've got magical aptitude for life magic. Undead usually cant use life magic, this is a huge step.

Meanwhile, your Shadowlords have been researching the Death Knight, but they've been unable to do anything.

Dang son.
(No map updates, on the phone)

You create and send off 5 phantoms to the east and 5 phantoms to the west.

The phantoms sent to the west are quickly found and driven off by dryads shooting green fire. No losses, fortunately.

The eastward phantoms had a bit more success. Beyond the swamp (which they coulsnt get a good look at), they found an area of pure stone. A barren wasteland with ore jutting out of the ground and not a single patch of grass. Could anything even live here? Thankfully you don't need to ponder that question as before long your phantoms find artificial, humanoid - if you could even call them that - iron men. Most of them are around mining the ore, but you find a base belonging to them. The things are way ahead of any of the other races you've encountered in terms of technology and, like the homonculi, seem to be using tech to produce more of themselves. Your phantoms are unable to sense their minds - do they have minds? - and head back for lack of better purpose.

Let's build a lab for experimentation/ storage place for corpses and souls
>>
>>348005
Souls generally don't need storage, they can easily be stored within your soul, and you don't know how to bring the souls into the real world yet.
Corpses can decompose into skeletons though.
>>

You've seen the humans use horses from time to time, but you've never seen wild horses or horse corpses anywhere.

You decide that the ghouls and zombies you have currently are not strong enough to make up the backbone of your army, and are mere fodder for what'll come. You decide you need a real minion who can stand his ground and be mass produced. You set the Shadowlords to work on this as well.

After extensive research on the subjects you and your Shadowlords both make impressive movements, you making a better zombie-like minion, and the Shadowlords successfuly creating a better skeleton-like minion.
The older Shadowlord recommends to improve the mining operations of the floating islands, because if you ever plan to make armor for anything other than the leaders, you're going to need more.

You have learned a new Undead: Skeleton Brute.
A huge skeleton with more arms than any normal race you've seen so far, it should be great in the frontlines as both fodder and in dealing damage to the enemies.
Created with 2 skeletons and 1 soul.

You have learned a new Undead: Corpse Archer.
A zombie upgraded with souls to give a finer manipulation of the fingers and arms, it's accuracy and effectiveness with a bow is impressive. You briefly considered giving this job to the skeletons, but the stiffness of their arms would make for a bad choice.
Created with 1 zombie and 2 souls

The fortifications are finally finished, and you've added pieces of Xathridium to improve the ability of the mages to fire from the battlements. (Engineering and Metallurgy used)

You raise 209 skeletons and 418 zombies, and gain 53 souls.

After months of research, you finally raise the Death Knight, a being who creates his weapons and his steed out of pure magic, draining you of more than a fourth of your souls. Hopefully the fight against the humans and dryads will be easy with this.

The Human army will arrive in 2 turns

scout the enemy a little more. what kind of troops are coming at us? like footsoldiers, cavalerry, archers, siege engines and all?

Before they get too close, you send off a couple of invisible phantoms to scout the arriving forces.
. . .
Holy shit, this was not expected. The Humans seem to be going all out and the dryads are giving considerable help (atleast 200 dryads). Theres atleast five siege towers, 50 cannons and, from what you can count, 2000 knights in shining armor. Around 200 of thise are riding on horses (convenient for you if you win), and all of them are carrying bows.

You decide to bury ghouls and zombies outside the necropolis in the likely camping spot: the small patch of land before the necropolis proper starts.

Thee older shadowlord returns, finished with the mining operations, and around the same time, a small company of homonculi warriors arrive. These seemed to be a bit more fitted for the purposes of this battle. Theres atleast 40 counter-magicians, and the rest of them are carrying wierd blades which supposedly "cut through flesh and armor like a hot dagger through butter". You don't know what butter is, but it's probably easily cut. Some of them are also carrying rocks imbued with runes that trigger if they hit something after the homonculi cast a certain spell on it. Shen it triggers a lot of fire comes out of it apparently.

The Machine Empires aid still hasnt come and you're getting real worried they might not show up.

You also build some traps that theoretically should encase the target in an underground coffin with air access.

Your scouting allows you to take one action before they arrive.
>>
>>350157

You decide you need more troops if you're going to deal with the army coming in, and so you raise 73 skeletons, 146 zombies and gain 27 souls.

The army arrives before long and, unsurprisingly, sets up camp where you expected. The leader, atleast you assume he's the leader, walks up and shouts up to you with a voice that must be amplified by magic:
"You have transgressed one to many times against the truce, Phantom Lord! We're sick of your shit, consider this our rebellion!"

The enemy leader is visibly treming after your outburst, and one of the commanders has to go up and help him gather himself before they return to command the army. The druids seem to be setting up some preperatory rituals, your best guess being that they renew the soldiers vigor. They get interrupted halfway through as ghouls and zombies start digging up out of the ground, assaulting dryads and cannon team primarily. They manage to kill 15 dryads and 10 cannon teams before being killed themselves. As the soldiers start gathering to advance, and the siege tower starts rolling, a worker drone from the Machine Empire rolls up behind you.
"AID HAS ARRIVED."

You spin around and find yourself looking at a colossal iron man, about 50m tall, walking towards the armies. Instead of arms it carries a huge sword as one limb and a mechanical claw made out of pure Xathridium with a deep red crystal from the wastes in the south implanted in the middle. Your army takes this as a go sign and starts streaming out at about the same time as the huge iron man spins up the claw and fires a beam of pure fire at the army, killing hundreds. Your entire force is now attacking their army, and they're in a full rout. The iron man is spitting up sand as his sword passes through legions of knights, and the homonculi cant help but stare in awe at this mechanical wonder.

The human army is in tatters and the dryads are seriously hurt. What do you do?

And can we finish up that Death Knight research, unless it's done. We should also up our lithomany and have shadowlords up the pryo. Them dryads won't like us, so we'll want to burn them down fast. It seems the machines could be our best ally, but they don't seem to need us aside from our ore. I vote we focus our effort deeper into the necropolis and see what deeper secrets and things we can find, in return for greater service from our new battle bot buddies.

You tell your Death Knight to finish off the retreating army and to capture as many dryads and humans as possible.
To yours, the homonculis and the Machine Empires surprise, one of the cannons is still functioning and fires at the huge iron man. The cannon ball hits it square in the "neck" and you see parts of Xathridium break off, and the iron man stops working shortly after. Thankfully you've decimated the army enough at this point that the loss isn't that big. The Death Knight and the army successfuly capture 13 dryads and 67 knights. You've also collected 179 dryad corpses and there's who knows how many corpses of the dead knights.
"We'd like 5 of those captured dryads, do you mind?"

Give them 5 living ones and 20 dead ones. Give the machines 20 dead aswell if they want them. Also can we try research wendigos now?
>>
>>352649
The Machine Empire and the Homonculi have no use for dead dryads
The Machine Empire straight up wants no dryads, the Homonculi require living ones so they can grow their saplings (babies) and then use those.
>>
>>352643

I agreed with this anon
>>352649

And also we should interogate the knights.
>>
>>352643
>Give our friends what they need
>Raise undead and souls from all those dead in the battlefield
>Can we do something about the cannons? Siege weapons sounds good
>>
>>352660

Why not create a new type of undead? Take some Dread Giant and grafted them with cannons.
>>
>>352674
This learn about the Canon create our own version plague canon and strap it too giant
>>
>>352643
Interrogate knights and find out where they live then kill them and add them to your army. Also send out some ghosts to try locate some draconians to set up a slave trade. Research wendigos
>>

You give away 5 of the captured dryads to the homonculi, and they thank you for your kindness.

After they leave, you start raising the dead of the battle field, gaining the souls of the dead and increasing your army with proficient dead. The concentration of the corpses makes it easy to revive them all in one go, and so thats what you do.

+1800 Zombie Knights
+160 Skeletal Steeds
+179 Dryad Corpses
+1960 Souls

Although you and the Death Knight are unable to make anything with the cannons, the Shadowlords together are able to graft the cannons onto the Dread Giants arm, and with it they are able to shoot blasts of necrotic energy.

-1 Dread Giant
-1 Cannon

+1 Dread Cannoneer

You have learned a new Undead: Dread Cannoneer
A Dread Giant with a cannon grafted to its arm, its able to shoot blasts of necrotic energy in addition to its normal uses.
