Huh. Being half fish is a bit weird. It'll take some getting used to. Wave says she can transform us back, if we want. But not until we find a new home, obviously.

It's not very fun, leaving everything you know behind, trading legs for a tail, because an angry legionnaire is trying to chuck a javelin into your back for rejecting the Pantheon. Not all of us made it. But the Pantheon magic is subtle, better crops, a blessed shield, arts and knowledge. The old elemental ways? Well, Wave transformed every one of her followers and then some into half-fish so that we could escape a civil war that would have surely seen every last one of us killed.

It was demons that started it. But not in the way you might think. At first, Resplendent Wave and many others distrusted them, and the blood ritual that offered strength and immortality in return for your ability to have children. But they proved themselves trustworthy in time, until a dark secret was uncovered. To become a demon was to have your soul doomed to limbo, a punishment from the gods of the Pantheon. The demons, all second generation or after, had not known of this secret, and Wave promised to save them from this fate they had unknowingly entered into.

But the Pantheon and their followers would not have this. The punishment of the demon's souls was not to be forgiven, no matter if the demons who lived now had nothing to do with the "crimes" of the original demons, of wishing to live in the mortal plane. Wave would not forgo her promise to save the souls of the demons, and so was chased out of the Kingdom of Roggar, along with all her followers. Many demons also came along, fearing that a purge would soon claim them.

And so we are, floating and looking for a new home.

>TL/DR We're exiles, we're playing a civ quest, we need to pick a starting location.

>A. Let's look for a nice place in the ocean. We're mermaids/men now, and we worship a fish/water goddess, so it fits. Let's view this exile as an opportunity! And it's safe from the Pantheon.
>B. Let's look for an island with coastal resources. Wave makes us powerful at sea, and some of us are quite liking the mermaid thing, but a lot of us want to be normal human/demons again. This is a good compromise.
>C. Let's look for a rich and fertile land. (We shall call it... This land) Wave's great for saving us, but a lot of us are just here cause we want to start a more accepting nation, not because we love ole Fishtits. Or literally having fishtits.

>Who is this Resplendent Wave person?

HELLO! Nice to meet you. Sorry it had to be under these circumstances, but at least I get to meet my followers a bit better now.

I'm Resplendent Wave of the Pearlescent Sea! Wave to friends, and Fishtits to other friends(?)... Anyway, I'm a 40 meter long sea-serpent nymph, demigoddess of Water, Fish, and Storm, aspring learner of the elements of Fire and Dark. My aspects are protection, life, blessing, and purifcation, that's how I like to use the elements I have (though I can still lay down a smack down if I need to by using the elements raw without my aspects).

I like long swims, the ocean, though rivers can be fun too, especially if they connect me to my people. I am not a fan of animal sacrifice, though I can accept it if we really need the power, and sentient sacrifices are right out! There were some goblins that did that, but no! Stop it. >:( Prayer may not give me a lot of power, but I'm ok with that. Peace, freedom, and equality are things I'm all about. But I'm not against protecting my people. I HAVE strangled a dragon to death in single combat.

I give my magic out freely to any who wish to learn it... but after exhausting myself with the exodus... I may need to hold back a little while. Not feeling my best.

So, I'm also trying to become the Goddess of Elements by learning all eight of the classic elements, and free the demons souls from Limbo. But those are like, suuuuuper long term goals. Not happening right this second. Let's just get you guys safe.

And I'm siiiingle.

>TL/DR She's your patron goddess of water/fish/storms. Also a huge sea-serpent/nymph as pictured to the side.

About seven fukhug quest threads worth.

This is an alternate continuity from Civ Bulgar's Fantasy Civ Qst. >>387496

However, hopefully you won't be missing too much. Feel free to archive binge if that's your thing, or just ask questions. Until I go crazy from workload, I'll be happy to answer.

>Muh factions.
Don't worry, I'll be incorporating those soon into my faction system. Just tell me what you're bringing over.

>Factions?
These are small player controlled groups that influence the thread and can grow their own strength independently. They add flavor and RP to the civ quest. If it's confusing, just lurk for a bit and then ask questions when you're ready to start. I'll be happy to help (until I go insane, as above.)

Oh, hey there! I don't recognize your names. Tell me a bit about yourselves while we're waiting for the others to decide? Do you personally wanna stay mermen/maid or go on land? Got any buddies who you're speaking for? I understand I'm still a little intimidating, being about twenty times your size.

I apologize if I do know you and just aren't recognizing you. The half-fish transform got a little wild on me for trying it on so many at once.

>Why OP, you're pushing Namefagging rather hard.

But well, it feels like I don't know how you feel. How are you holding up in the exodus, your opinions, your goals? Opinion on the whether you personally wanna be mermaids or human again?

And, so, you're both from Nayte? Big scholarly research town with lots of magic going on. I could never visit, because, well, landlocked. What was it like? What do you remember most about it? What do you carry with you?

>A. The culture of cooperation. Humans and demons living together for the benefit of all.

I want to be a human. Most of my clansmen do as well. We can't study and learn or train at sea. With us we bring our weapons and the knowledge make more. Fire magic has little use at sea, demons were okay but a bit rough and bossy with my human fighters/ magic users. I went my son to grow big and strong, like his father, like me.

Should we spend some time to make sure there's no hidden surprises, or dive right into colonization? The more time we spend at sea without landing, the less standing resources and time we'll have after colonizing before potential enemies start finding us.

That said, hidden surprises could be nasty.

We find that the island is cool and mysterious all... BUT THERE'S NO FOOD. :O

We find that there are no herd animals native to the island, and that our few seeds and crops we've brought over do not take to the soil here at all.

Wave is struggling to provide enough fish for everyone with how exhausted her powers are, and we're having less time to investigate the mysterious ruins than if we had picked an easier to settle island and just sent people over to investigate!

I mean, it's not like the islands we didn't pick were going to magically disappear, as though the geography of the world were in flux depending on our choices.

Now what do we do?

The people are split on settling another island or staying!

The decision is made to send some people to settle another island, so that they can ship food to those who remain.

This will split the people culturally and geographically, but may be the only option to.....

Curious of what lies in the shadow of the ruins.
And from this Curiosity arise a goal.
To Create the Worthy heir of Light.
The true brother worthy of guiding the Sons of light.
Atherax Jorro worked in the mines and died there too.
And Light Jorro has plans for his tribe.
Plans to create Mens who will not bend to the cold rock of the mines, mens who will bend iron with their fist.

WATERDAWN
Anyway, the Elves at first seem conflicted about your desire to borrow. Some of them think you'd be better at doing the port than the High Inquisitor's people, what with having mer, others think that with the High Inquisitor's people doing that, there's no need for your people.

The discussion is raging on for awhile, when one of the captains, Wintermane, offers you a strange deal. He will fund your people for whatever you want built, over and beyond just your needs, in return for a particular half-demon child, the secondborn, a girl. He promises to treat her well. The other captains seem confused by this offer, but don't dare speak against it.

The mother is conflicted about the offer, on the one hand, it's selling a child to a shady elf. On the other hand, she thought she was having some no consequence fun with a demon, and wasn't ready for a child. Not even sure who the father is.

>Sure, the elves can probably raise a child well, with their established society. Even if these seem like pirate flavor elves. Also, pirate-human-demon-elves sounds like an awesome trading partner.
>Sure, but while we're swapping children, can we have on of yours? Might as well get multi-racial in all this business.
>Uh... No. We'll just wait for the other captains to finish deciding whether they want to offer us a trade. Or credit really.
>On second thought, let's not trade with the crazy elves.

BLOOD CLAN-

The Sea Elves have a taste for real meat, or so they say they do after a long time at sea. They're also somewhat interested in fine hides and pelts. With how immediately useful hides, pelts, and meat are among our restarted people, they're also a high demand for them among our people. Your clan currently doesn't have enough hunting focus to fulfill one of these demands, much less both.

>We shall adapt to the needs of our people and the elves, even if it means abandoning some of our martial tradition. We'll come back to those when they are needed, but there is still glory in a good hunt.
-2 Warriors +2 Hunting +1 Prosperity +1 Elf, Faction Special: Wild Hunt
>We shall trade with the elves, our current benefactors, it is right to repay a debt first. We shall balance the hunt and our warrior tradition.
-1 Warriors +1 Hunting +1 Elf
>We shall provide for our own society first, we can repay the debt later. We shall balance the hunt and our warrior tradition.
-1 Warriors +1 Hunting +1 Prosperity
>Even if means our influence dwindles and we can just barely sustain ourselves, we cannot lose our warrior traditions.
-1 Prosperity, Faction Special: Way of the Warrior

Light Jorro-

Your farmers are destitute! On the Mystery Island where nothing grows, they have nothing to do, and cannot contribute to society. They don't even have tools to keep trying different things, since you didn't trade with the elves. Unrest is growing.

>Suck it up, princesses, we'll figure something out, farm harder.
-1 Prosperity, -1 Happiness Chance for critical success that instead of those penalties means you've discovered a way to grow things on the mystery island.
>Go Fish
-2 Farming, +2 Fishing, -1 Happiness (we wanted to be farmers, gosh darn it!)
>Maybe kelp or something? Underwater farming?
-1 Happiness (A lot of us don't want to be Mer!), -1 Wave Power (I'd be happy to help, but I am tired), ++Mer population.
>Write In, save me from these terrible options
>>
>>390250
Just a note. Sometimes these options lieeee about stats, and there are hidden bonuses and penalties. This is because you don't know how to reach the future and the consequences of your actions perfectly. Yet. There's probably a spell for that.
>>
>>390210
Heya Wave, I think I'm gonna get in on this. I'll post assets and introduce the faction just as soon as I can find a pseudo-avatar that isn't cringey as hell or blatant fujobait.

Hey Free Masons,

The Elves have an offer for you. They want you to build a dry dock for them, in return for their support. Think your people are up to the task?

The main problem right now is that some of the resources you need the elves don't have on hand. You'd need tools for working the stone, and getting the supporting columns, and the Elves don't have those on hand. Additionally, some are suggesting that due to the lack of wood on this island, creating and manning this drydock will make you reliant on trade.

>This is our first chance to build something super cool, and we can use the drydock ourselves whenever the Elves aren't here! We'll wait for them, Elves will surely deliver.
>Compromise on the structural materials, build them a short term drydock that'll be enough repayment for what we need to get by, and nothing more.
>On second though, let's just go into debt and focus on our own projects. We'll build them something cool later.
>>
>>390278
>Compromise on the structural materials, build them a short term drydock that'll be enough repayment for what we need to get by, and nothing more.
I suppose if we dont have tools and not very many materials this is the best we can do.

The Daemon League
A small clan of around 100 demons who fled the mainland with Wave after it became clear that the research they wanted to pursue would not be possible within Roggar. Composed entirely of demon craftsmen, engineers, and natural philosophers, and a handful of fire mages, their main goals are to build a civilization that will be able to pursue societal advancement for everyone. Totally not mary sues.

Elected representative is Ano the Daemon, chosen because he's teh pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything, and because the League collectively decided things were more fun when there's a leader to be dramatic, even though it's really more of a meritocracy.

>>389830
>Volcano
Gimme that fire magic mode senpai
Also,
>Yeah, their resources will help us get started, even if it will put us in a lot of debt, we'll be recovering from that poor start and be able to pay them off soon.
Shifty elves are my favorite kind of elves
>>
>>390260
Okay you can have the child but I'll like a member of my clan to join your group to show her what she can do with her demon half and show that we didn't abandon her dose that sound fare.
>>
>>390313
You're not the one who gets to make the decision on that. The choice is for Waterdawn.
>>
>>390316
Oh my bad sorry so we're is Waterdawn
>>
>>390318
Great Question.

>>390309
Hmmm... Got any fun ideas for what your clan can offer the elves or our people given the situation? I had a whole night to sleep on everybody else.
>>
>>390323
Depending on their tech level, we could pretty easily enchant some of their shit with low level stuff like basic fire enhancements, or make them some high quality arms/armor/tools. We're kind of like the masons, but with more of an emphasis on products and tech than structural stuff and trade.

If they offer us a really sweet deal, we'd be willing to tech them our fire magic, which at the point we left Roggar, allowed us to reliably cast DnD style level 1 fire spells, but this would take a while and probably result in some burn wounds, as elves aren't as attuned to it as demons.
>>
>>390323

>>
>>390331
The Elves are incredibly interested in the possibility of enchanting ammunition. They are quite willing to support you materially, or even move your entire to their capitol to work on this. They want this, bad.

You note that apart from Wintermane, whose's white hair was significant enough to name him after, almost all of these elves seem to have fiery red hair, and a red/gold color sheme to their clothes and finery... Coincidence?

>Getting to research enchantment in an elven capital with full support? That's an insanely good offer, what wonders could we develop!
>Maybe a little too good an offer, let's politely say we see potential in the volcano's fire aspect and do it here. Slower start, but the commitment of moving away is fishy. Yes, hi Wave. You can stop sad facing, we're staying.
>On second thought, maybe giving this technology to the elves would make them too dominant. Elemental ties represented by hair is cliche, but it might just be true.
>Ask a bit more about the elves and what they intend to use it on before committing to a decision.
>>
Just woke up.

>On second thought, maybe giving this technology to the elves would make them too dominant. Elemental ties represented by hair is cliche, but it might just be true.

Can I work on my stuff now or is there more factions to go?
>>
>>390353

>>390336
Cool.

~~

So, the reason why I'm giving a choice to each faction individually, is because I intend on my "turns" being a longer time scale than Bulgar's turns. 10-15 years.

So, we don't vote every turn on what we build. You give me general direction you're going, I give you some choices, and then I fast forward development until their is a new meaningful choice.

Because I'm going to assume you keep growing your food production in turn with population, and building enough settlements for them to live. You're never going to stop doing that.
>>
>>390353
>Maybe a little too good an offer, let's politely say we see potential in the volcano's fire aspect and do it here. Slower start, but the commitment of moving away is fishy. Yes, hi Wave. You can stop sad facing, we're staying.

Definitely not above helping obviously fire-attuned ginger elves with magic that we have a monopoly on, but we're not willing to sell out entirely just yet. Enchant their ammunition, stay on the island and make them regular patrons. This way we can help jump-start the civ as a whole, and make some pointy eared friends.
>>
>>390358
For my turn since my people are warriors and magic users. Protect the clans in the island and try to exploring if it get dangous just leave. Maybe enchanting the fishing rods of the fishing clan. Just some supplies from the elves to build some houses and a dock. Maybe magic the tools up.
>>
>>390358
If I can, I would like to build some ports in my town and establish trade routes with other clans.
>>
>>390405
How do you intend on accomplishing a trade network with entirely warriors and magic users? What do you have to offer?
>>
>>390410

>>
>>390418
As in tariffs will be lower for you and you are going to be the first person
>>
>>390418
How do plan on improving on no tarrif?
Also, them supplying you with the supplies for the dock, is contingent on them having first dibs.

A lot of people seem to think trade is a magical ding make money button, but unless you've got an absolute monopoly on the only port on an important trade route, you've got to have something to trade to make money.

And as other people are also building docks, you do not have said monopoly.

Generation Pass, Part 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D77PXC05FnY

Settled on the Mystery Island:
The Free Masons,
Demonic masters of Architecture, using their long lives to accumulate skill.
Faction Points: 3 Architecture, 1 Warriors
Faction Specialty: ???
Faction Composition: Demon
Relations -1 Elves

The elves seem satisfied enough with your work not to push the debt, but are overall disappointed, and seem to look elsewhere for trade and craftsmen, not offering you any further commissions. Eventually the drydock collapses and, while your people have established their homes, and tools to do further work, they have no great accomplishments to show for themselves, and you have just barely kept yourself out of debt by building homes for other clans to feed yourselves.

Light Jorro
Faction Points: 4 Fishing
Faction Specials: Dreams of Magic-
Faction Composition: Human, Mer
Relations: -Elves, +Wave

Over time and generation, many more of your people take to the sea and Wave and the mer way of life, as it is all of their livelihood now. Your people are starting to stray from their glorious dream they carried with them, but for now, they are prosperous.

Moon Jade
Faction Points: 1.5 Warriors 1 Magic Users .5 Dockworkers
Faction Specials: Dreams of Magic-, Shadow of Death
Faction Notes: Human

It may never be known what occurred, but the Blood Calamity happened. An explorer was sent into the mysterious ruins, and by twilight, everyone blood related to the explorer was dead, a massive loss of life to your clan. Since then, none have dared enter the ruins. Your people manage to avoid destitution by enchanting fishing tools, and working the docks for the fishermen. Many young are scared away from the pursuit of high magic by the mass death, and grow up working the docks instead.

If easy success is more important than roleplay, by all means, take your leave. I want to emphasize hard choices, and the struggle to survive. Not just endless "you get stronger". This is not a power up shonen anime.

All of the choices I offered Light Jorro, based on his goals and decisions, had negative consequences to them. They were all bad options. He picked the one that kept his people strong in the short term, but strayed from their long term goal. Now, he has to go "Hmm, how do I get my people back on track?" And come up with a creative solution.

I punished you for cheating, and if the punishment is too harsh, and you cannot accept it, well, that's sad, but you are the master of your destiny, and I cannot stop you from leaving.

However, if you wish to stay, I do promise you the opportunity to recover. To search the ruins again, to conquer your people's fears, to make golems like you dreamed.

But I do not promise you it will be easy, or that each turn will make progress towards that goal without any steps backward.

Generation Pass, part 2
Settled on Volcano Island

Waterdawn
Miners seeking riches below the Waves, and craftsmen working the raw riches into wonders, harmony between demon and man.
Faction Points: 2 Miners 2 Craftsmen
Faction Specials: Unity of Soul
Faction Composition: Humans, Demons, HALF-DEMONS?!?, Mer Miners

~AWAITING PLAYER INPUT~

Blood Clan
Demonic warriors who practice ritualistic hunting to sharpen their skills
Faction Points: 1.5 Warriors 3.5 Hunting
Faction Specials: Wild Hunt
Faction Composition: Demon, few humans, few half-demons.
Relations: +Elves

Times have been good for the blood clan. Their hunting ways require skill, strength, and speed, not fine tools, and provide immediately useful goods, all things that have lead to great prosperity in the early years of these settlements. Even their martial traditions have not suffered too much, with hunting the great jaguar beasts being a badge of honor and mark of skill. The clan has grown, with others from less prosperous or prestigious clans seeking to join. How the demon clan treats these newcomers will shape their fate in coming generation.

High Inquistor
Uhm.
Faction Points: 2.5 Warriors, 1 Magic Users, .5 dockworkers
Faction Specials: Missionary Ferver
Faction Composition: Humans

The High Inquisitors(?) have kept themselves going by working the dock, and become somewhat prosperous by trading Blood Clan and Daemon League's goods. But their warrior culture is slowly being subsumed by their trading, with no one to fight. Your people are also sharply aware that if the Blood Clan's beasts that they hunt ever dry up, you'll be in a bad spot, though not a horrible one, due to the Daemon League's exports.

The Daemon League (Ano the Daemon)
Engineers, scientists, and craftsmen who seek societal advancement for everyone.
Faction Points: 1.5 Craftsmen, 2 Magic Users, 1 Scientists,
Faction Specials: Edgelord
Faction Composition: Demons
Relations: +Elves

The Daemon League is sitting pretty, though not quite as prosperous as they like right now, they are doing great trade with the Elves that has been picking up more and more as the Daemon League get their enchanting facilities and supply chains in order. The Elves in kind have been coming into port laden with slightly scorched hauls and laughing all the way. Yeeeaah, they're definitely pirates. The only thing you're somewhat worried about is you've heard rumors that they're trying to duplicate the enchantment process themselves by studying the end results.

>>
>>390700
But it's in character *
>>
>>390692
Actualllyyy... The Waterdawn's Unity of Soul faction special combined with merdemon/human population unlocked:

While settling, a few of the merhumans and merdemons in the Waterdawn faction had a bit of fun (not much else to do under the waves waiting for a settlement...) And discovered that somehow, while in mer-form, demons can reproduce. Horray, half-demons! What they can do is not very well known yet, seeing right now they are mostly crying.
>>
>>390700
Yep, it's part of the contract. We cannot, by definition, lie to them about any part of the process. It has to be entirely self-determined, and the magic flat out wouldn't work if we withheld any info. Not looking to recruit just yet anyway, seeing as everyone's pops are way too tiny to siphon off of safely.
>>390706
Forgot about that, actually. That changes things! In that case, freely support the exploratory fleet.
>>
>>390210
>>Uh... No. We'll just wait for the other captains to finish deciding whether they want to offer us a trade. Or credit really.
>>390491
>>Mooooooooom! Ask Wave to adjudicate.
We craftsmen want docks without a tariff! We would also like to explore the volcano to see if we can incorporate the lava into some of our forging techniques
>>
>>390718
Dude fair is fair man, I need to pay for dock upkeep too man
>>
>>390683
Your people are split over the move. Some of them think they're running from their original dreams of investigation and advancing magic, and running for fear of the unknown to the safe and easy dream of trade.

Others think that it's a noble calling, and the guys who want to try researching the ruins again are crazy.

>The ruins are a death trap, let's head for safer land.
+Shadow of Death, -Dreams of Magic, you join up with Inquisitor, +Unrest
>No, we should stick it out. We can make this work.
-Shadow of Death, +Dream of Magic, you don't move. +Unrest
>We should split, those who want to stay staying, and those who want to go go.
Gosh, I can't even fathom. That'd have unpredictable effects. Maybe we'd have less unrest? Maybe more from the divisiveness? Arg.

Tell that that moving is only a a while until we get the much needed supplies to returned to this island. For now we need to rest, become strong to attack head on the dangers of the island. We will still look for our worthful goal of magic, but to do so we need to grow, and all this fighting will lead to nothing but a bad taste in your mouth.
So let's us move so we can grow and take back this island when we're fully prepare, and believe me this island don't stop our great clan. For we are the Jade Clan we fear no one, and will do what it takes to live long and grow.
Now who's with me!
>>
>>390742
How about we give you reduced tariffs for priority
>>
>>390711

The Daemon League
Alright, with some of your people wanting to take advantage of this newfound ability to reproduce, they want their homes and facilities to be by the ocean, so that they can more easily pay Wave the worship necessary for frivolous mer transformations, hang out with their mermaid waifus and children, and participate in the construction of the exploratory fleet.

However, all of this is taking away from the goal of unlocking the volcano's secrets and enhancing the fire enchantments faster than the elves can catch up.

>The Volcano's more important, and the elves can't be trusted, as soon as they don't need us, trade will dry up, and it'll take us forever to catch up to their naval technology.
++FIRE -Water -Children
>The long view is important. We can unlock the secrets of the volcano later. This is an opportunity we've never had before, having children, and exploring the world won't wait for us. Besides, the elves will still buy from us even if they develop the tech, as long as we can do it cheaper, right? Or at least at a convenient location.

We can still do fire, and there's more ways to keep customers than pure quality. Besides, with more demons we can do more in general, and will eventually be able to turn our focus back to magic. Small price to pay for natural reproduction.
>>
>>390749
I have an idea for this, you could be a Mage guild. You would still be trading, (in mages) but still focus on magic
>>
>>390795
That a good idea. I'll do that and enchant some stuff.
>>
>>390718
Roll a die on the trade, Waterdawn.

>Tariff business
"Um... Well, I'm not a real economic expert, but the other factions supported the Inquisition, so you'll have a tough time competing if you don't take Whitemane's deal or negotiate a real killer contract with the captains. If you don't want to use the docks, I suppose you could try to just use your mer to service ships, but you'd only be able to do that for really small class ships, and it doesn't sound like a practical long term solution. Sorry I'm not more help. :( "

You accept Whitemane's offer, begrudgingly.
>Well, I suppose having all the species is kinda my thing right now. I get an elf, right?
You accept Whitemane's offer, but get an elf child in return.
>No deal, we'll just work things out with the Inquisition.
You stood up for yourself! But you also get a bit fucked economically and piss off the apparently very powerful Whitemane.

I assume roll was just how trading for my clan went but yeah we did work it out

The High Inquisitor tries to economically bully Waterdawn, in response to the threat of a Whitemane backed dock.

However, Whitemane's resources are notable, and when the dock is finally finished, it is a significantly better dock, and it has mer workers.

Whitemane's reputation is also fearsome, and that also supports the Waterdawn dock.

Though Whitemane's enemies dock at the high Inquisitor's Docks, with the sudden economic pressure of the Moon Jade population, the Inquisitors are facing an economic crisis.

How does Waterdawn react:
>You were nice to use when we were weak and dependent, and now are afraid of us and tried to attack us when you saw we could be a threat. We'll use Whitemane's resources to put you out of business by offering the Blood Clan and Daemon League both better service and better prices.

The Wave Dancers are a people who took to Waves blessing in a unique way, their elders saw the wisdom in both land and sea. So they asked a boon from the goddess belagured as she was to allow them to become something new. A breed of people of fish and man, with scaled form and two legged form that allows them to live on land and sea equally. They strive for balance, but know that the balance they strive for in nature itself will always be under threat so they take arms ready to defend themselves against those that would disturb the sanctuary of the pools.

Good question!

But, I'll get to it. I didn't forget anyone last turn.

Slow down.

My goal will be one turn a day. You don't have to be here all day.

If you're playing this as a hang on my every word, power through chug go, quest, you are in the wrong quest.

My goal is intricate, long term, faction relationships. Meaningful choices.

Not chugging through fifty turns in one play session.

That's part of the reason turns are measured in "Generations".

It's because I want to share resources and I can't really do that if we are on different teams

Aren't we all on the same team as it wheere? Since we are all in the same civ
>>

>>
>>390733
Alright, fair enough. Any special reasons why, or cool ideas for incorporating it into your culture?

Also, what does the Blood Clan, formerly exclusively demon, do about the Humans(who wish to remain human until Wave finally beats the Limbo Soul thing) and Half-Demons who wish to join?
>>
>>390959
>>390960
Hey Wave, moved over to my computer now just letting you know.

As it is right now, For this generation turn or whatever I'd like to just focus on building up more houses for the population boom and focus on making the best type of arms and armors around. Maybe even invest in a specialized form of using water to forge with instead of burning flames!
>>
>>390976
Is that what you believe? Alright then. Are you on different teams?

Anyway,
What do you do with your economic crisis?
>Turn away the Moon Jade who aren't experienced dock workers.
You'll probably manage to turn a profit with this, and steal the Moon Jade's experienced dockworkers, but you'll be totally wrecking their shit.
>Even if it'll absolutely bankrupt us in the short term, try and hold out until the Moon Jade can start enchanting enough stuff to start breaking even.
You will be horrendously poor and in debt, but you won't have broken your promise.
>>
>>391030
Is this me?
>>
>>391013
My clan is also interested in using water to forge and would like to invite the Jinyu clan to our docks. We can offer you any assistance you need in you're research
>>
>>391036
Yup.

You were the one offering to take the Moon Jade in, and then you got whammed by the Whitemane dock, breaking your monopoly on shipping.

And the Daemon League isn't going to be producing/selling as much anymore, so that's hitting you too.
>>
>>391044
Waterdawn Can we combine our assets into a trade company (controlled by Op) and we split the profits
>>
>>391045
Keep my promises, strike deals with people with discounts in the future
>>
>>391044
Splendid! We had this idea of using high water pressure to clean away the rocks surrounding ore and then attempting to use the water pressure to shape the metal, we've just run into the problem of directing it or achieving high enough pressure for the rock.
>>
>>391054
You're currently splitting the profits.

But you're getting less because your docks are used less.

And where the Waterdawn have other useful skills and produce their own goods to sell, you literally have nothing going on but charging the Daemon League and Blood Clan for the work of 1/6th of your working population.
>>
>>391076
Alright can I ask wave for help
>>
>>391076
Also don't I have the mages to help me? I can sell their skills for cash. Like rent a Mage.

>>391080
"Well, you can always go fishing, I'll always be here for you for that. Or you could start producing something. Learn something new! You're hanging onto all those warriors, when we have no one to fight. Or if you're really dedicated to the idea of trade, you'll need to find new trading partners, new goods to sell, new markets, and some investors."
>>

perhaps some of the my merfolk can help. The deep pressure of the ocean may help in purify the metals. Wave would likely be of assistance too if she would be willing to help

Waterdeep, so you meet up with the child you gave away that one time. Apart from growing up piratey, she seems perfectly normal. Whitemane seems to have kept his word, and she's been well treated (if a bit of a rough life on the sea) and looks up to him as a father.

I'm not asking for special treatment
>>
>>391253
She's gone, but we can plan
>>
>>391100
So if our operations and research into the high pressure forging is a success, think we could try to force the ore into a basic shape then instead of heating it to bond the metals?

We could even feasibly attempt to make use of the underwater volcanos that line the ocean floor, though the Wave Dancer's are capeable in water I don't think we have the constitution to make the trip for deep dives like the Mer are able to.

On another note we had an idea of also basing a form of purification magic in the form of a holy well of either pure water from a spring or a magical source that can be used like an early warning system of wide spread ruin and devestation. Something along the lines of a short wave radio that listens in on the Divine wavelength so we can be wary of when the Pantheon is sending their forces after us. I know it's a long shot and far off in the future, but it's something instead of nothing.
>>
>>391303
Won't work, was in the old tread, new gods arnt evil, just some are fanatics. Think Catholic church
>>
>>391303
I think the water forging will be a success. Before we develop a warning system, we should think about the uses for our weapons and other things that may be develop with the underwater forging.

First I think we should only give the weapons to factions that join us and maybe we could make some ships that float beneath the water instead of on top of it
>>
>>391355
Hey waterdawn will you support my exposition for new trade partners
>>
>>391361
I feel we should hone our own infrastructure and develop our technologies before we seek out potential friends or even enemies.
>>
>>391375
I already lock in, please just help
>>
>>391378
I have stated my thoughts about it already
>>
>>391320
Even then if they are still on that Divine wavelength or whatever it is that the Oracles use to get signs from the gods we could tap into that can't we?

>>391355
Hrm well if we do find new things and secrets from the methods I would think we could allow for better buildings in our case since we specialized masonary and craftsmanship, Oh! Idea what if through use of the metals we forge, but the a steel or iron frame work and make a mix of concrete to allow for better stoneworks?

As for weapons and who to give and not give, we have some common warriors who have been preaching about the way of the warrior, they are rather into the whole Honor before Death aiming for a great victory, since we aren't at war they just spar alot of the time and sometimes go hunting wild game in the woods.

Sometimes they bring back great hauls, others they just come back bruised and beaten.

Sorry rambeling now, but I think since we are all one civilization we shouldn't partition out resources in a us vs them, it's all of us vs the other civs right?
>>
>>391385
Alright man, but that means it might fail

Our race is of ancient constructs of living stone that labored when carbon life was still easily ignored. In those long gone times the jester was born of words and sea. He was chaos where all was order. He was the end of the first court, but has sense forgotten. Now all he knows is that he does not want to raise the Royals again, but he does want the writer. And for that he needs the mason. The mason will know what is needed. And the constructs will live with chaos where before they were once order. Only the writer and the sea can do that. And only the mason can make the workers besides.

>>391378
Just because people don't want to help you doesn't mean they're being mean to you. If they say no, it means no. They have no obligation to put you ahead of their own interests.

>>391670
"Oh, um, hiii? Living here. Also, sorry, this may be breaking the fourth wall, but which of the two islands that we're inhabiting are you claiming? We've got the volcano jungle island, and the giant ass monolithic mystery structures island."

Also, if you just plan on fighting us, you won't be a faction so much as you'll be a fun Write-In enemy. Because if you were just one faction by the same rules as normal, you would get absolutely wrecked really fast.

>>391912
Ask away. Also, apologies about the time, I'm doing this when I intended to. I just got the math wrong for saying 14 hours.

>>391927
It drives the plot. However there are limits. I prefer you roleplay goals and endeavors, and not achievements. If you roleplay discovering gunpowder in one turn, well, I'm afraid of regardless of how well you roleplay that, I'm going to be a little iffy on accepting that.

Additionally, before I let someone in and start roleplaying, I usually ask for a bit of a summary of the character they intend to play, and what they intend on doing, so that I can know what flavor, or thereabouts they'll be bringing to the thread. If I'm not a fan of the flavor, I'll say no.

For example, I expect the murlocs to bring a short term conflict, and maybe split off to be a long term antagonist if the players fail to defeat them decisively.

>>391954
Sadly, I'm not a fan of this flavor. At least not right now.

Three or four of the factions in the game right now have the goal (to various degrees) of discovering how to make golems. If you come along and say "Hey, here's how!" Suddenly that removes driving quest elements from the game instead of adding them. I had planned on making their search for golemmancy a long term quest with slowly gathering bits and pieces of the puzzle.

Resplendent Wave of the Pearlescent Sea
+Godling Portfolio of Water, Fish, and Storm Elements
+Godling Portfolio of Healing, Protection, Life, Purification Aspects

Magic:
Divinity Lvl 4- Hear Prayer, Send Visions, Grant Spells, Anoint Champion
Water Lvl 3- Water Purification, 2 slots used on hybrid magic
Fishomancy Lvl 2- Fishery Blessings, Half-Fish transformation
Storm Lvl 2- Lightning Manipulation, Storm Ward
Fire* Lvl 2- Consume Flame, Breath of Cinders
Dark* Lvl 0-

Water + Storm Lvl 2.5- Hybrid Electricity Ward
Water + God Lvl 3.5- Holy Water

*Mortal

So, those are the magics I have access too right now! I can grant these spells to my followers, other than the pyromancy and darkomancy, which I only know at a mortal level. If you're not sure what a spell does (Breath of Cinder isn't 100% clear, for example, it allows you to breath any air, no matter how toxic or smokey) you can ask.

Also, how magic works in general is via Element and Aspect. Element is your tools, and Aspect is how you use them. You can always use an element without at an Aspect. For example, if I just huck a giant pile of water at somebody, that's not particularly "protection", as they'll soon be crushed.

By the way, here's the elemental affinity chart!
Elemental Affinity:
Dark: Light--, Wind-, Water+, Earth++
Earth: Wind--, Storm-, Ice+, Dark++
Light: Dark--, Ice-, Wind+, Fire++
Fire: Ice--, Water-, Storm+, Light++
Storm: Water--, Earth-, Fire+, Wind++
Ice: Fire--, Light-, Earth+, Water++
Wind: Earth--, Dark-, Light+, Storm++
Water: Storm--, Fire-, Dark+, Ice++

Now, those are just my magics.

A fair number of other people have learned other magics.

One of the most notable is enchantment, which I don't know how to do, but many of my followers have figured out. And many demon magicians are better than me at Fire and Dark manipulation in raw skill, even if I have a ton of power to throw around as a demi-goddess.

In fact guys, that'd be a good thing to list out.

Describe the type of magics your people have access to. Don't worry about power level for now, I'll tweak it down or up as necessary.

Generation Pass 1
Settled on the Mystery Island:
The Free Masons,
Demonic masters of Architecture, using their long lives to accumulate skill.
Faction Points: 3 Architecture, 1 Warriors
Faction Specialty: ???
Faction Composition: Demon
Relations -1 Elves

~ Awaiting player Input ~

Sons of Light (Light Jorro)
Faction Points: 4 Fishing
Faction Specials: Dreams of Magic-
Faction Composition: Human, Mer
Relations: -Elves, +Wave

The focus on constructing labs and cooperating with the Free masons has prevented the slide away from your original goal, but not particularly pushed that goal forward, without a driving goal of what to research. Your fishing industry is really all that's keeping the Mystery Island afloat economically, with reduced home building and no foreign commissions for the skills of the Free Masons, and with competition from the Moon Jade and High Inquisitor, who, while not nearly as good, for the time being, are directly on the island they're selling fish too.

(Also, give me a die roll for whether you discovered anything cool just by being on the island, odds of success will be low, but you've got a shot)
>>
Setled on Volcano Island

Moon Jade
Faction Points: .5 Warriors 1 Magic Users .5 Dockworkers .5 fishing
Faction Specials: Dreams of Magic-, Shadow of Death, Poverty
Faction Notes: Human, few Mer

The inspiring leadership manages to prevent morale decay for a time, but when the High Inquisitor suddenly falls on economic hardship as you leave everything behind to join them, your people are demoralized instead by poverty. The fishing and support from the High Inquisitor's docks keeps your people from starving., but your people are still destitute and poor. Many warriors turn away from their warlike ways, with hungry bellies, turning to the sea, or to the Blood Clan.

Waterdawn
Miners seeking riches below the Waves, and craftsmen working the raw riches into wonders, harmony between demon and man.
Faction Points: 2 Miners 2 Craftsmen
Faction Specials: Unity of Soul
Faction Composition: Humans, Demons, HALF-DEMONS?!?, Mer Miners, Elf (who is occasionally Mer)

Below the water, your people find everything they were looking for and more, with the aid of the Wave Dancers and Wave herself. Volcanic vents, and research into using both water and fire into smithing produces a lot of potential options. And the discovery of a great gem, pulsing with heat and fire and divine energy, which some have dubbed the Heart of the Volcano also forbodes choices of what to do with it.

Blood Clan
Demonic warriors who practice ritualistic hunting to sharpen their skills
Faction Points: 1.5 Warriors 3.5 Hunting 1 Magic Users
Faction Specials: Wild Hunt, ???
Faction Composition: Demon, some humans, few half-demons.
Relations: +Elves, +Wave

The water magic goes well, but not quite as intended. Wave likes having people seek her out to learn her powers, and although she doesn't particularly like the animal sacrifices in her name, she recognizes that you were gonna hunt them anyway. However, the humans and half-demons that wished to join the Blood Clan originally wanted to be powerful warriors and didn't like the idea of being relegated to healing duty. They propose a new method of magic that they have been testing, in combination with martial fighting.

High Inquistor
Uhm.
Faction Points: .5 Warriors, 2 Magic Users, .5 dockworkers, .5 Fishing
Faction Specials: Missionary Ferver-, Materialism
Faction Composition: Humans

The High Inquisitors(?) have hit hard times, economically and spiritually. Some feel like they have abandoned their true purpose here, as there has been absolutely no missionary work and the worship of Wave is spreading everywhere, and instead people have been seeking wealth. On the other hand, some also feel that they haven't done enough to seek wealth, as taking in the Moon Jade was economically disastrous. Fishing and dockworking have kept everything afloat, but the expeditions never returned, and there are rumors that the Elves are indiscriminate in their piracy as long as it happens outside Wave's protected waters between the two islands.
>>
Still Settled on Volcano Island

The Daemon League (Ano the Daemon)
Engineers, scientists, and craftsmen who seek societal advancement for everyone.
Faction Points: 1.5 Craftsmen, 2 Magic Users, 1 Scientists, .5 Mer
Faction Specials: Edgelord
Faction Composition: Demons, few Merdemons, few Half-demons
Relations: +Elves, +Wave

The Daemon League is more than happy to have more people, and many have learned water, storm, and fish magic from Wave, expanding their skills so to have a broader understanding of magic. In large, the people are happy, but trade with the elves has indeed slacked off. The elves are still happy trading partners, but you can tell that you don't have a monopoly anymore, and that while your goods are high quality and at a good location, other competing suppliers now exist. Some suggest that incorporating the Heart of the Volcano into the enchanting forges would allow great leaps forward.

A more dire problem is that of women. With the nearly 100% male demon population, and mer population being about 50/50%, there is fierce competition over mer women, and Wave is starting to get complaints about aggressive male demons, and two demons nearly killed each other in a fight over a woman.

Wave Dancers
Adaptable, semi-aquatic part mer, who live in wetlands.
Faction Points 1 Masonry 1 Crafsmanship 2 Warriors .5 Metallurgy
Faction Specials: Underwater Architecture
Faction Composition: Half-mer
Relations: +Wave

The Wave Dancers, after much experimentation made the discovery of a particular types of bronze that work well underwater, despite corroding a little on the outside, staying strong. Incorporating this into their masonry has mad the Wave Dancers the premier constructors for Mer homes, and even many homes on the coast, with the Free Masons being remote.
>>
And back in 6 hours, with murloc and choice branch time.
>>
>>392902
Ah, didn't know. Still want to inhabit the abyss. There will still be a blue jester, but now the people are dwellers of the deep, Their glow is their magic, and the deep flames as well. Though it was difficult, they recently learned to protect themselves from the pressure difference with water magic. Our goal is to find the godling that pulled an island from the sea (the demigod Maoi) and take the hook that made it possible.
>>
>>393072
My bad, Māui.
>>
>>392933
What does my faction specials do? If you don't mind me asking.
>>
>>392933
Awesome, bronze inlaid with dark stone is a good asthetic , I also like the bit about being useful for construction all along the coast as well. I think I'd want to try increasing what other metals we could craft and Forge as we experiment further with this water forging.

That being said if we can't progress further with it then I would want us to take a turn to construct either a generations worth of masonry for a temple in honor of Wave our patron who Granted us this great boon
>>
>>392935
Can I do economic policy's or is that not allowed?

Yo, just saw that this quest was made.
I'm OK with it, if you're a faction that migrated from Roggar to Waveland, state it in the main quest so I can adjust stuff. You're free to participate there as well, the story goes on.
>>393183
If your faction transferred from Roggar to Waveland, you can just make a new character/faction for the main civ. No hard feelings.
>>
>>392902
For the record, I plan on being a nuisance more or less, Small raids/little attacks on factions over small/non-existant disputes. And alot of suspicious non-sense, not a full scale attack that would justify trying to eradicate me, just annoying hijinks that'll nudge the plot in a slightly different direction. Our long term goal however... Well lets leave that for then.

Because this thread was created to escape internal conflict. I'm honestly sick of it. I could return to Bulgar's thread if I want to get politically or militarily outmaneuvered anytime.

I'm fine with inviting an enemy over, (Hi murlocs), but I'm not interested in the factions forming blocs and attacking each other.

And, in this specific case, the Moon Jade could be put down by pretty much any other faction, much less Wave. Their rebellion would effectively be the scale of a nasty riot to our civilization.

The other thing is that like, 1/3rd of my time is spent answering Moon Jade's demands, the other 1/3rd High Inquistitor's, and 1/3rd the entire rest of the crew.

Right now you're doing worse than the other factions because every other faction chose do to the thing they specialized in. Blood Clan, hunters? Did hunting. Daemon League, magicians? Did magic.

You chose to specialize in magic and fighting. And decided to try to build a trade monopoly (that was promptly broken) then just kept trying despite the fact that your faction wasn't built for it. Then you tried to support another faction that was doing well at literally the worst time.

That said, however. I cannot say I am not biased. No one is immune to it. You incessantly ask things that are along the lines of "Can I increase my power". And then you nag. Incessantly. I do not enjoy nagging. I would honestly prefer you weren't in this thread. Make my job a lot easier and I could focus on the players who keep surprising me with interesting choices and direction. Maintaining you has a very high workload for very little reward, compared to my other players. You haven't convinced me to drop you yet, but I definitely don't like you. And while I try to be objective, bias probably is poisoning me against you somewhat. And the whining is making that worse.

That said, for the reasons above, I think I'm pretty fair in saying your faction is doing poorly.

I even warned you that doing three things at once would have a high chance of failure. And then you were surprised when a roll of 58 only got you 1 success out of 3 tasks.

So, yeah. Your call if you want to stick around.
>>
>>394265
Actually, the fact that the Daemon League equipped the Sea Elf Pirates with exploding ammunition solves this one.

Waterdawn
Riches of the deep and the Heart of the Volcano.

Your clan has discovered a mineral deposit! It isn't particularly rich, but it seems to encompass the whole width of the island, and contains copper, silver, gold, and what you think might be some form of lead that doesn't melt. The mine is mostly copper, but there are still significant enough sets of silver and gold to make it worth your while. And, eh, maybe you'll find a use for the weird lead.

You've had some success with underwater refining, but also some setbacks.

The Volcanic Vents are the most successful, but they're also very dangerous. A few people have died and a lot more got serious burns. Some of our extreme water pressure tactics are doing all right, but require so much magic that it's more worth it to use less water magic to bring the stuff up to Daemon League forges. Some used magically heated water, and the results seemed like they might work eventually.. But no successful tests yet.

But, the Heart of the Volcano is a gem with divine level connection to the Element of Fire, and could completely change your fortunes.

Heart of the Volcano
>Give the Heart to Wave, helping her quest to become Goddess of Elements. She says in return, she'll teach a spell of protection from fire to your people, so that you can use the Volcanic vent methods safely.
++Wave, Wave gains a new fire spell, and can grant fire spells to followers.
>Give the Heart to Smoke Chanter, a mer from your tribe who says he can hear the voice of the Heart of the Volcano, and can bring forth a new demi-god of fire.
Well, if this guy is trustworthy, you could have your own demi-god of fire! Or said demi-god could burn everyone to death.
>Give the Heart to the Daemon League (Though the Free Masons might also be up to the task/need to help), this would allow them to create something AWESOME, and put them in your debt, if you ask for it. Maybe one of the following, or a write in.
A Forge-Temple to Wave: Would allow Wave to grant pyromancy spells, as long as the temple was intact, but would not improve her mastery (so no new spell), but would also provide an AMAZING way to smelt and refine those ores.
An Enchanting Forge: Would allow the creation of wondrous fire enchantments. I bet they'd come up with something cool.
>Use it yourself:
What for? The possibilities are limitless!
Unless you want to do something not related to fire.

But this sounds awesome. Can you find a picture for your faction or describe them? Dwellers of the Deep is a bit vague. Resplendent Wave is a dweller of the deep, what with being about 40 meters of Sea Serpent different from your typical mermaid.

The milk is highly poisonous, though it's subtle and takes a few weeks to start showing. Many die. Apparently creatures with a "mysterious metals" diet don't make very good milk. At least for humans. :/

However, research does find that it makes a good base for Earth Element magic.

Too bad no one here knows that type of magic. :/

so you just ignoring me
>>
>>394599

If you'll notice, I've got a bit of a backlog to work through. I just responded to someone's faction request from seven hours ago.

Also, Murlocs, my stated timeframe that I want for how often turns pass is 1/day. That means civ wide decisions will probably have a turnaround of 24 hours.

I plan on taking this civ thread slow. In return you get faction specific attention, but the pace will be slow. If that's not your cup of tea, I implore you, head where you will have fun. We are too mortal to hang around where we hate.

If I've forgotten you by the time the next generation pass happens? That's when you should get antsy with me. Full permission to get antsy with me if I still haven't responded by then. :P

Weird, but when I worked out the elemental affinity chart, my top elements are Fish, Water, Ice, Dark, and my worst element is Storm.

Your choice on the forging type? I presume you go Volcanic Vents?

Do you invite the Wave Dancers to the vents with the new fire protection spell? They've got some +Wave too, and some metallurgy focus, so they could be helpful.

Best to take the middle ground here. Problem isn't going to sort itself out now that a bunch of formerly-sexless demon nerds can successfully bone and recreate all of a sudden. Least interesting choice, but also least likely to fuck anyone over.

MORE than happy to take the heart of the volcano and try some neat shit with it, btw. Would be a great way to get all kinds of cool enchants, or for constructing a forge-temple.
>>394386

Oops, sorry Wave what was the question about metallurgy and warriors?

If your asking for what we can do with them, hrm. I'd like to have our warrirors practice some more and even develop a set of rules for proper tactics...maybe something like a code of honor, or the rules of war! Mayb our warriors can conduct battle simulations as part of their training as well as develope the philosophical reasons for why we fight.

As for Metallurgy, I'd like to see if there is some way of developing this further, maybe ask Waterdawn on their own efforts and see what we can develop

Speaking of...
>>394680
Any good news? We heard somehting about volcanic vents that could be useful for crafting metals, we found a way of creating bronze that remains strong beneath the sea's, there is some corrosion on it, but we feel it adds character to the metal once it's been in place. Adds some real character and age to the pieces you know?
>>
>>395157
Yes We have discovered a new way using volcanic vents to craft but it's dangerous so Wave will teach us a fire spell to withstand the heat... perhaps we could incorporate the spell into to battle.
>>
>>395179
Our people dislike the use of flames ourselves, it causes us to dry out rather unpleasently, that being said, what if we had our warriors become protected by the flame and then. Crazy idea here, we have our warriors ignite themselves on fire as they fight? With the breath of cinders' they'd be able to continue fighting despite being engulfed in flames allowing for a terrifying blow to morale and to close combat.

We could even call them the knights of the burning heart as their hearts beat for our goddess with fiery passion!
>>
>>395194
I was think along the same lines we should develop an elite troop trained in this form of combat

Awesome, I still want to try having our warriors also become maybe not scholars, but at least educated.

It's one thing to mindlessly fight over material things, but to capture the essence of /why/ we fight. For what purpose do we dedicate ourselves to. That is a worthy question for our warrirors to ponder.

IE I am kinda trying to set up either a bushido inspired warrior society or something like that with a developed warrior culture of philosophy.

>Make Forging your own Weapons part of our warrior Culture.
In wanting to aspire to even better heights our warriors will go out into the wilds and select from the great beasts of the sea to craft their most best weapons. Tusks of narwheels, the teeth of sharks or the beaks of octupus's the sea's bounties are endless! So to shall we harvest from the land taking the best hides and sinews for our weapons and arms.

So, hunting, rather than forging? I can roll that. But to find and hunt a beast with bones worthy of being the weapons of your people will be a dangerous task.

Well in thta case we'll take the trophies and offer some to wave as tribute for her. In the meantime some of them will be offered for sale as most of our humid dwellings wouldn't take well to the preservation of hide and fur. So keep fish trohpies, offer some of both to wave and the land ones offer to others if they want it for cash. In the meanwime I suppose we can go ahead and keep researching metals in the mean time with our warriors. We might have to range further out from our islands to find fantastical beasties that are worthy of weapons!

The jester arrives to speak with the surface dwellers, his mouth open to show his strong, healthy teeth, but not gaping as if to bite. He inquiries about watching magics are held and what meat is abundant. But is shocked to find that the fisherman is frightened like no fish ever was. The human's strange flesh was beginning to smell rather...delectable, but it would do no good to eat them before he was sure it was for eating. He asked, in his best, "tell me and live" voice, where he might find someone who might answer his questions.

This is an invitation to communicate with the Abysals.

The jester points Shimmer Tooth's Fang at the murloc, "You had best have a dammed good reason to get in my way, meat!"

OOC: Shimmer Tooth was a strange, gigantic monster down in the abyss. It's teeth, were stainless steel and razor sharp. Jester had the skill to successfully rip one of his longer teeth from his jaw and uses it today as a spear. Shimmer Tooth is still alive, and likely remembers jester and his kin.

Alright, sorry guys, but I won't be progressing the turn today. Tomorrow though. Keep up the fun stuff.

Though, some things to know about magic in this universe.

Magic comes from two sources, Mental Energy and Life Energy.

Life Energy is gained by sacrificing animals or blood or most potently, sentient life.

Mental Energy is gained by prayer, patterned thought, or generally mental stuff. While this is much free-er than Blood Energy, this is much less potent.

Even the most powerful of mortal wizards can only manage parlor trick level magic with their mental energy alone, though that's not to say it can't be useful. Almost all wizards carry with them potions, that fuel their magical spells, which are distilled magical energy stored up from one of the above methods, typically sacrifice. (No mortals yet confirmed to have mastered mental energy to stored energy, though I might be open to that changing that)

This applies even to enchantments. Only the most potent, requiring permanent sacrifice, can create a permanent enchantment.

Gods, and demi-gods and other divine beings, have the purpose generally of collecting prayer and sacrifice, and transforming them into magic more efficiently than mortal methods, and then redistributing the magic back to their followers.

Currently, Wave as a demi-God, has 8/10 efficiency. Most mortals have somewhere in the range of 4/10 to 6/10, depending on how skilled their magic arts are.
>>
>>399045
My magic is... pretty mediocre.
The only thing I really got is the Fish Totem trick. Which I mostly use as a sort of a lure to call over Murlocs, and other Fishy creatures.
Oh and I guess I might be able to light torches now due to that Flame trick I learned off of Jester.
>>
>>399045
The abysals have the remarkable ability to collect life energy from their prey when they eat. Where normally one would have to burn or otherwise destroy a sacrifice abysals can simply consume the flesh. In addition they often supplement this with the spirits of a living thing whose bone or tooth they possess. Jester has the exceptional factor of owning the tooth of a spirit who continues to live and collect energy of its own. The feud between the two spirits further strengthens this bond, and if Shimmer Tooth were capable of casting magic, he would likely have snuffed Jester's remaining life force shortly after fleeing.
>>
>>399111
>>399114
I'm cool with that.

Though, I do wonder if you'll keep accidentally summoning Wave or all the Mer people.
>>
>>399140
Mostly it was a ruse for Mr. "I'll teach you bronzeworking" to learn the magic by proxy. If he is clever enough to know that, and that Jester was responsible for it. He may just keep us around for similar tricks.

"The greatest magic is deception: it costs no energy, and will make a slave as content ad a master"
-Bluregard Jestre
>>
Eh I wouldn't mind summoning Wave, won't worship her by any means but, We're both, fishy beings. Isn't too much of an issue. Only Mer-folk I've got a problem with are the demonspawn, which are a perversion of Mer-folk and frankly scare me, and disturb my brethren.
>>
>>399204
They should scare you.

And what should scare you more is the demon child given to the elves. Mwhahahaaaaaa.
>>
>>399329
Sure, but what do they taste like?
>>
>>398602
If you want to fish and hunt in our waters you can I suppose, we could even have small competitions in the deep blue of who can bring back the biggest hauls.

So long as in the end we are all able to share the food brought back I don't see what's wrong with that, you play in our pool we get to play in yours. Sound fair?

>>398603
>>398728
So...you have a stick that can bring other fish like creatures towards it like a fishing lure?

That sounds rather mediocore to be honest, where is the thrill in acheiving perfection? Finding the right balance between where to swim and when to strike be it in a spear blow upon a beast or the hammer strike of cold metal?

This is...almost lazy in approach!
>>
>>399650
Yes, this sounds like good deal.
Weeks later a fisherman sees a dozen abysal children chasing a shark, the begin biting the predator and one of them gets killed, followed shortly by the shark. The abysal children eat both the shark and their friend and take bones and teeth with them back down to the abyss.
>>
>>400132
Please when you split and share the food from your hauls, you can keep the fallen from your hunts our people don't like that type of meat.

Generation 3

Mystery Island:

The Free Masons:
Currently on autopilot.

Sons of Light
Fishermen with dreams of magic, fearless explorers despite simple ways.
4 Fishing (2 Human, 2 Mer)
Faction Specials: Dreams of Magic, Fearless
Faction Resources: Well, pretty much the entirety of Mystery Island that's been settled.
-Elves, +Wave

Although many die from the poisoned milk, the Sons of Light forge onward, fearlessly trying and experimenting. Not the most prosperous, with competition from the fishermen from Volcano Island, the people trade for crafting nececities with the Free Masons, who without great architectural projects, are currently more along the lines of craftsmen. The Sons of Light need no finery to pursue their dreams.

A few from the Moon Jade, though not many, return to the island, and join the Son's of Light, unhappy with their dissolved clan's choices.

There are many potential choices, for the Sons of Light. Choose what you like, but only one choice that involves Manpower may be chosen. Include one roll for every choice that involves a roll that you do.
>Herd the Animals, even if we don't have a great use for them yet, they're a potentially valuable resource. (Manpower)
+.5 Herding, get to try another of the old options for the herd animals (Currently meat/hide)
>Ask Wave about Earth Magic, even if she doesn't know it, maybe she could find someone who does. (Wave)
>Ask Elves about Earth Magic, even if they don't know it, maybe they could find someone who does. (Roll, Elves)
>Try to develop your own mortal type earth magic to take advantage of the milk's magical properties. (Manpower, Roll)
>Try to develop some write in type of magic. (Manpower, Roll unless you wish to learn Free Mason's Demonic Fire/Dark or Wave's Storm/Water/Fish/Fire, which autosucceeds.)
>Create a dedicated exploration corps for investigating mystery island's secrets (Manpower)
+.5 Explorers
(In case you're wondering, successful magic getting will result in .5 magic users)
>>
Volcano Island:

Blood Clan
Demonic warriors who practice ritualistic hunting to sharpen their skills
Faction Points: 1.5 Warriors 3.5 Hunters (5 demon), 1.5 Divine Water Kineticists (1 human, .5 half-demon)
Faction Specials: Wild Hunt, Kinetic Magic
Relations: +Elves, +Wave

Many former Moon Jade magic users join the Blood clan, and together with those the Blood Clan were training, create a powerful new style, that allows magicians to use their elements and cast spells as martial body movements, allowing magicians to fight on the front lines, combining spell and striking. It also is a very potent channeling of the raw force of the element used. However, as payment, the aspect of the element (things related thematically, like how Wave's spells generally heal and protect) is gone.

Choose only one option including magic, and one involving random event. Roll once for each option you choose with a roll tag.
>Continue Investigating the depths of Kineticism, try to figure out a way to put aspects like healing back in. (Magic, Roll)
>Continue Investigating the depths of Kineticism, see how powerful we can make the elemental force like slicey water swords. (Magic, Roll)
>The new spellcasting style makes it attractive even to warriors, try to start teaching your demons kinetic magic (Magic, specify type, demons are most naturally skilled at Fire or Dark, but can also learn any of Wave's types fairly easily. If you pick Fire, choose Wave's or Demonic Fire.)
>While your magic is currently achieved with Wave's power, Wave doesn't know how Kineticism works. If you teach Wave Kineticism, then she can spread it and teach it more quickly. (Magic, Wave)

>An Elder Hunter has not returned in some time. His power and experience makes him falling to any ordinary predator unlikely. We must search for who or what is responsible. (Random, Roll)
>A Half-Demon has displayed an unusually potent physical power, and credits an unusual diet of fruit from the island. We should investigate this, as half-demons, while they can eat non-meat, unlike demons, still require some meat normally. (Random)
>A Human, who took quite well to the Kinetic Magic, wishes to challange Wrath for leadership of the Blood Clan. (Random, Roll)
>>
A few Moon Jade join up under an intrepid individual with vision.
Vasarian Group
.5 Resteraunteers (Human)
Faction Specials: Visions of Greatness
Faction Resources: A small restaurant

The main problem for the Vasarian Group is that there are literally no farmers. None of the Sons of Light retained the arts of farming, and so there's a dire lack of starch, yeast, and hops.

>We should try to convince one of the other factions to become a farmer, the climate and soil are perfect! It's a special of the island? Why isn't anyone doing this already?
>For the reasons in the past reason, try growing our own, even if it will desperately stretch our manpower.
>Import from the Elves, they probably have this somewhere. (Elves)
>Ask for help from Wave, she can bless fish growth, so maybe she can learn hydroponics. (Wave)
>>
>>402897
>Create a dedicated exploration corps for investigating mystery island's secrets (Manpower)
There's a lot more to be found on the isle i feel.
>>
Forgot Blood Clan's
Faction Resources: The hunting industry, a few clan halls, that include prep for hunts, and arenas, which now have troughs in the floor for catching spilled water.

>>402936
Also, just to make sure, you understood the rules of that picking system, right? You can pick as many as you like, as long as only one has the manpower tag.

Now that that's done:

Waterdawn
Miners seeking riches below the Waves, and craftsmen working the raw riches into wonders, harmony between demon and man.
Faction Points: 2 Miners (Mer, 1 Humans, .5 Demons, .5 Half-Demons) 2 Craftsmen (1 Humans, .5 Demons, .5 Half-Demons) .5 Metallurgy/Divine Fire Magic Users (Mer .5 Half-Demons)
Faction Specials: Unity of Soul
Faction Resources: Elf
Relations: ++Wave, +WinterMane

Wave gladly helps with the forging, and Waterdawn's mining takes another step forward, with their own mastery of metallurgy. The factions prosperity is great, and prospects are good for it getting even better. With the resources being mined, the Waterdawn could mint coinage, which could be nice for national unity. Currently we just use elven coins, and those are scarce and overpriced.

Pick only one Mining choice and one Crafting Choice.
>Focus on mining and refining what we already know works. (Mining)
+Prosperity
>Try to figure out what that wierd lead is useful for. (Mining, Roll)
>Ask Wave to learn Fire Purification magic, maybe that'll work for refining! (Wave)
>Try to see if we can find any other treasures or resources. (Mining, Roll)
>Start making our own coinage. That'll help us regain a little bit of the advantage the elves have on us economically. (Crafting)
>Nah, keep producing short term stuff useful to our expanding industry on the islands. Time for that later. (Crafting)
+Prosperity.
>Well.. Bugger. I ran out of cool ideas. Mnyeeeeh. Write in something to do with your craftsmen? (Crafting)
>>
>>402992
And forgot to include crafting halls, great docks, and volcanic vent forges in Waterdawn's resources.

The Daemon League (Ano the Daemon)
Engineers, scientists, and craftsmen who seek societal advancement for everyone.
Faction Points: 1.5 Craftsmen, 2 Demon Fire Magic Users, 1 Scientists, .5 Mer Metallurgists
Faction Specials: Edgelord
Faction Composition: Demons, few Merdemons, few Half-demons
Faction Resources: Fire Enchantment labs, supply chain, docks, lovely sea-side property.
Relations: +Elves, +Wave

Wave does... Poorly, at convincing people. Not like she pushes them away, but most of those who were already cool with demon relations already had picked a guy or two. It remains to be an annoying problem holding back growth. However, your people do make some progress on creating ships, though you're still behind the elves, and some of your mer population have been helping out at the Waterdawn volcanic vents and learning a lot.

There is a self-proclaimed alchemist who says he's been researching an elixir that can change men into women. It involves milk from the animals on Mystery Island. Which killed a fair about of people. Do you trust him, and if so, how do you go about using it?
>Full support, this is a great idea! Woooh, mad science!
Super Critical success on a roll of 63. Increased chance of success. Increased chance of critical failure.
>Uh... Let's get some scientific process in here, animals to test this on.
Boooring.
>REALLY? No, just no.
You get to ignore the horrible, horrible chain of choices down below.

How should we get people to use it, if we do succeed?
>Volunteers only. This is obviously the only ethical way to do this.
>Volunteers only, but incentivize it. We're not hurting for money, though not as rich as we used to be, and this is a problem that needs solved.
> Dump it offshore. If you're gonna mad science, mad science all the way.

If you dump it offshore, where do you dump?
>Near Waterdawn. This is what we'd want right?
+Mer Women
>Depth Charges.. Ok, I admit, the Abyssals got some nice edge.
+Abyssal Mer Women
>Near the Murlocs. Wut.
+Murloc Women
>Our people. I guess that solves the problem in a different way. Maybe if you had a drawing of lots, this would go back around from being the least ethical option to the most.

All of that segment with the daemon league is just...haha great. It's great. Now if they dump that shit near us and we find out about there gonna be hell to pay.

Also cool to hear that Waterdawn's making progress with those volcanic vents!

Wave Dancers
Adaptable, semi-aquatic part mer, who live in wetlands.
Faction Points 1 Masonry 1 Crafsmanship 2 Warriors .5 Metallurgy .5 Hunters
Faction Specials: Underwater Architecture
Faction Resources: Temple to Wave
Faction Composition: Half-mer
Relations: ++Wave

Well.... Wave is very happy with her temple and worship from the Wave Dancers, buuut Wave doesn't really like the idea of the fish-lure either. Though whether it's because of some purity of the hunt or just because she's afraid of her fish magic being replaced is up for debate. Wave, while not jealous to the point of inquisition or enforcing religion, still is jealous of her spheres of magic and followers. Her Fishery blessing magic increases the health, growth, and reproduction of fish, but does not make them easier to hunt on an individual basis.
>Eh, the fishing lures are a good idea. Even if you enjoy the hunt, the whole swimming to the hunt thing doesn't have much point, and we aren't as fast as the Mer underwater.
+Prosperity, -Wave
>No, on so many levels, Murlocs. We're literally named after Wave.

There's also some debate on how to handle the warrior culture. Some are very excited about the possibilities of Kinetic magic and wish to learn it, others wish to focus on the hunt, and others wish to focus on fire.
>Learn Kinetic magic (Specify Type, other than water will require a roll.)
>Focus on the hunt
Gain Special, Trophies of the Kill
>Focus on Wave's Fire magic, the idea of a warrior setting themselves on fire..

"Oh, um, high there. I haven't seen any Abyssal Mer since the great storm and the War of the Gods all those centuries ago. You seem to have developed an effective and terrifying way of getting along without the Elemental Gods. I really don't even know where to start with civilizing you guys, so I'm just gonna say.. keep doing your thing, don't eat my mer. :/"

Civilize?
>Oh? Civilizing us? Please enlighten us, oh wise goddess of fish.

>Oh? Civilizing us? Please enlighten us, oh wise goddess of fish. For reals though.

>Yeah, we'll keep doing our thing.

>Aright, we'll stay away from your Mer.
>Hey, you can't mind if a couple children get out of hand once in awhile when they're hungry.

Feeding is our culture, our way of life. If you do not feed the tribe, then your corpse will. Keep in mind, when you tell us of your ways, that we will not take kindly to telling us not to eat when the meat is there. I will agree not to hunt your people specifically. Make it a decree to not go hunting with the intention of catching a mer, but should one fall on our path, well...

>one quarter of one's mass in meat is sufficient to spare ones life, one eighth for members of the tribe, daily.
If possible, I would like to ask if our warrior culture services are sufficient payment for metallurgy technology.

My rolls are utter trash, I have an incredibly narrow margin for anything even resembling success, I haven't slept in 36 hours, all I've eaten is a banana and frankly disgusting amounts of (admittedly high-quality) coffee.

>Full support, this is a great idea! Woooh, mad science!
> Dump it offshore. If you're gonna mad science, mad science all the way.
>Depth Charges.. Ok, I admit, the Abyssals got some nice edge.

Let's go boiz.

Well... You could just stop by and say hi, attempt to convert us into praying to you rather than praying to the earth and sea, or you could attempt to get us to stop using magics that offend you. Although, frankly, I need them due to the Murlocs inneficiency.

Scratch everything except answering questions, we need to become the nightmare fuel we were sorta meant to be. Get in the practice of piracy against non allied ships. Set them on fire and eat anything that jumps. When the ship sinks, "open season!" Killing and looting abound. And, of course, sell most of it for meat.

Alright, gonna archive this and get ready for a new thread tomorrow. See you all then! :)

>While your magic is currently achieved with Wave's power, Wave doesn't know how Kineticism works. If you teach Wave Kineticism, then she can spread it and teach it more quickly. (Magic, Wave)
>A Half-Demon has displayed an unusually potent physical power, and credits an unusual diet of fruit from the island. We should investigate this, as half-demons, while they can eat non-meat, unlike demons, still require some meat normally. (Random)
