You start reverse research on on Contract Greater Elemental, that extremely complex incantation condition looks really useful. Once that’s done (the familiar timer has popped up showing 15 days) you open up your friends list to contact John and Lelogas. Unfortunately John’s name is greyed out -- it’s exactly the same as when you tried contacting Lelogas when he was busy knocking boots with Robin -- John must’ve turned off his messages. Lelogas, however is ‘online’, you ring him up.
“Lelogas, its Bob.”
“Oh. Hey Bob, listen I’m a little busy right now --”

“Sure. But listen I have something important to tell you, it’ll just take a sec.”
“...alright go ahead.”
“Ok. So this guy, Duke Arthur, a player and the lord of Olekville, is trying to incite a war with the Elves.”
“...What’d you say his name was?”
“Arthur. Duke Arthur.”
“Hmm. That would explain a few things. Where are you right now? How’d you get this info?”

>”That’s not important right now. And what did you mean by ‘that would explain a few things’?”
>Tell him everything
>>

>>”That’s not important right now. And what did you mean by ‘that would explain a few things’?”
Gotta keep it simple.

>>”That’s not important right now. And what did you mean by ‘that would explain a few things’?”

Promise to explain in more detail later. Does he know a way we can contact John if he turned his messages off? We've gotta find a way to warn him since it's a bit of an emergency.

“That’s not imporant right now. What did you mean by ‘that would explain a few things’?”
“Well I can safely assume you’re not in Dorter then, things are exploding over here. There’s been a revolution against the aristocracy -- it-it’s complete chaos, they marched into the villas and executed most of the nobles, women, children I mean its a fucking bloodbath. I think the guilds, particularly the Gangsta Guild has something to do with this. There are greater powers at play here, and this Duke of yours might be a part of it too.”
“Shit. Listen do you know of way to contact someone who’s turned off their messages? It’s an emergency.”
“Nope. Wait -- actually there is one way, you can use the recall stones to teleport to another recall stone whose owner is on your friends list, if you do that though the stone becomes useless after, so no one really does it. Listen. It sounds like your in danger from this Duke, I won’t ask questions but don’t come to Theasta, things are just...shit I have to go -- head for Noutria, seek out King Phil, he’s probably the only one who actually knows what’s going on.”
“Alright --” You’re cut off.

What will you do?
>>
>>413874
teleport to our friend/love interest/faggot
>>
>>413874
Sounds like it's time to go innawoods.
Suggestion: send Ben towards Noutria by himself, contract a greater air elemental, empowering duration (that was a thing I think we could do? otherwise forget about this part), on yourself. Do that thing with the recall stones and, depending on circumstances, either explain the situation to him and convince him to get the hell out of Etria or blow his attacker/captors away, grab him and fly away. The whole plan obviously rests on air elemental powers allowing sustained flight, so if that is not the case, forget about this plan.
>>
>>413874

Take Ben with us to go see John. There might be trouble on the other end, so we need to make sure we're ready for a fight. Besides that, if John's still that upset with us, he might be a bit more inclined to listen with Ben around.
>>
>>413874
Is there any question?
>>413891 has my vote.
>>
>>413903
I also forgot:
prepare a serious apology. I'm not talking about apologising for running over someones dog, more like apologising for running over their daughter. Prepare to beg, while on our knees.
>>
>>413941
this. Mention what happened with the duke, and how John was right to not consider these people code.
>>
>>413941
>>413951

Seconding the apology. We should probably mention that trying to force ourselves, and John, to view them as code has been the main thing that lets us keep our shit together from the stuff we've had to do, even though we know they're more than that.
>>
>>413951
>>413941
We also have let make sure he understands we'll have to fight people out to kill us though.
>>
For long-term plans, what do people here think about building a wizards tower in the mountains? Or anywhere in Noutria, really? I bet earth elementals are great for building stuff.

You need to get to John. You need to warn him, or help him if he’s in danger (which undoubtedly he is). Things are moving very quickly, but your mind is calm and focused, you fear nothing and nothing worries you. You take out the recall stone from your pocket. You’re not exactly sure how this works but you think of John, picture his face, and begin rubbing the stone. You grab Ben’s arm as you feel that same yanking feeling. Darkness...and then the sound of metal and horses. You open your eyes to armored horsemen circling around you.
“Who are you! Answer!” Says one of the horsemen, fully armored in shining mail and pointing his long spear at your face. You look around for John, feeling calm and strangely unfazed by this turn of events. John is gagged and bound, his hands are tied with a rope whose other end is tied to one of the horses.
“My lord, is he not one of the fugitives?” Says another horsemen to the first. He unfurls and holds up a scroll for the first horseman to view.

You have a short opportunity. Ben is by your side, giving you look which says “Say the word”, his hand is ready at his sword.

What will you do?

>>413988
>mfw we're not even remotely attempting to exit the game any more
>>
>>413988

I'm alright with that, but we should probably make sure we do it on friendly lands. Hit up someplace we know isn't frequented by anyone that might be looking for trouble, and isn't likely to have dragons flying around unless we can befriend them. We might also want to wait until we're a little bit stronger, so we can bind some spirits/elementals permanently to the tower/grounds as protection. If we make a tower essentially innawoods, it's got to be a fortress. Even if we make it within a rich city's walls I'd still like it to have plenty of protections in place, just in case war comes to our lands, or our enemies like the Duke send people after us. Or just to protect our shit from greedy thieves.

How about one of the unexplored islands of Theasta. The ones with the red triangles have volcanoes
>>
>>414005
Fight to kill, but if we can knock them out or let them surrender.
>>
>>414005
Have ben attack, quickly cut the rope and unbind John. Try not to kill them.
>>
>>414005
WHY DIDN'T YOU PERFORM THE RITUAL FIRST!
I mean, at least store summon common elemental in our staff first or something.
Anyway, we still have those steroids. What's our quickest ritual? do we have time to summon a common elemental at least? Ideally I'd want to contract a greater earth elemental...
>>
>>414005
>What will you do?

"Go!"

Time to fight and free our friend. Summon a common elemental, since it should be a quick summon. Fire is tempting for destructive capabilities, but Earth might just let us imprison John's captors instead. Then we can cut John free, but move to defend him if anyone even shoots him a hostile glance.

>mfw we're not even remotely attempting to exit the game any more

Might take time, we're just coming to terms with needing more strength to end things. And we can go for decades without the day even changing in the real world, so time we have.

>>414019
>How about one of the unexplored islands of Theasta.

That would be good for a private home/workshop if we got the Acrophilia trait. Not that I want to vote on that now, I'm still down for saving it. But we'd need more recall stones to set up a proper shop in a friendly city/cities if we want to get serious with making our alchemy profitable.
>>
>>414037
>>414039
Assuming we have time to summon a common elemental, use empower.
>>
>>413891
>>413927
>>413929
I would also like to remind people that the last time tried something heroic, we lost an arm. So next time, please think about appropriate preparations before jumping into danger, please.
Assuming we survive this, obviously.
>>
If we summon an Earth elemental instead of a fire one so we don't kill them we should at least kill their horses, so that they can't follow us. Though I think killing them might buy us some time so they can't report back to the Duke.
>>
>>414096
There's also the dirty option of only "pretending" not to kill them, for instance by burying them in the ground with only their heads sticking out. The question is if John notices how unlikely they are to survive like that. (assuming we are in deep wilderness.)
But I don't expect such an option to win, so I don't know why I even mention it...
>>
>>414096
>kill their horses

Those horses didn't do anything to us, we could scare them off, or we could take three for ourselves. It's not like the Duke can do more than try to kill us for stealing his men's horses so we can get away that much faster. And we don't even have to ride them forever, we could let them go at some random town and seek other forms of transport.
>>
>>414116
>Ride off with the horses in one direction
>After a while have geodude tunnel us underground in the other direction
A perfect escape.
>>
You begin your disco thrusts. You give a curt nod to Ben who immediately leaps forward, does a front flip high enough to grab the head of one of the horseman, throw him off his horse and then take his place on the horse. Instantly all is chaos. You continue disco thrusting while speaking the words of the poem. The armored horseman, likely the leader, rears his horse and tries to impale you with the spear, you unsheathe your arm-blade and relish the look of surprise on the leader’s face as his spear-tip breaks against the flat of the orichalcum blade. You continue speaking the spell while Ben charges their ranks with his horse and sword, occasionally leaping from horse to horse knock the enemy off of theirs.

“...and companion too.” You envision an earth elemental and use your empower perk to make sure you summon something strong. A large boulder with 4 arms appears. It’s literally the evolution of Geodude: a Graveler. It starts pounding the ground with all four arms causing a miniature earthquake which spooks the horses. The riders are thrown from their saddles. Everyone freezes. That’s good, looks like this will go easier than you expected.
“Drop your weapons.” You look to the leader, who is still staring at the Graveler. Then he looks at you and drops his weapon. The others follow suit. “Ben, help John.” Ben goes and cuts John’s bonds and takes off his gag.
“How’d you find me?” Says John.
“Recall stone. We can discuss it later.” John nods. You turn to the leader. “Who sent you?” Graveler stares down the rest of the horseman, all four arms crossed across his chest.
“D-Duke Arthur of Olekvile.”
“What did he tell you about us? Be quick now.”
“That you were fugitives that collaborated with the kidnapping of the Duke’s daughters and that you were the ones to cause his daughter’s death...but as I see you now...I don’t understand…”
So that’s his game. By running, we look guilty. Cunning bastard.
“Go on. What else?”
“He-he also told us that you were the one to slaughter the Elves when they rebelled against you. You were the leaders of the band. Y-you killed them all…” This is not good, it’s going to be your word against a lord’s. “I want to ask you something...criminal.” Says the leader.
“Ask.”
“Why did you do it? Why did you kidnap the her? And why, why did you kill her?” Looks like there’s more this daughter than you thought. The leader is practically sobbing as he says this. He falls to his knees.

>”I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and liar, you would do well to leave him and seek the truth for yourself.”
>”Who was this girl to you?”

>>”Who was this girl to you?”
He wouldn't believe us if we told him his lord is a liar, not right now anyways. Unless John pumped up his charisma?
>>
>>414150
>>”I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and liar, you would do well to leave him and seek the truth for yourself."
Tell him why wouldn't we kill him now if we were truly like that?
>>
>>414150
>Write-in
"Nothin I say could convince you that I'm innocent anyway, so I don't see why I should even bother."

Bury them chest-deep in the ground, such that they can free themselves with an hour of effort or so. Take as many horses as you need to transport your group and Graveler and set off towards the border. Scare off the other horses.

I'd be ok with saying
>”I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and liar, you would do well to leave him and seek the truth for yourself.”
As well.
>>
>>414150
>>”I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and liar, you would do well to leave him and seek the truth for yourself.”

What possible reason could I have for murdering a little girl? To hurt the Duke? Why? And don't you think there are easier ways for me to do that than kidnapping or murder? Who gains the most from all of this, and why pin things on those the Duke himself hired to avert a war?

>>”Who was this girl to you?”

Overall maybe a bit too much information, especially the bit about avoiding a war when he was already openly sending troops out from what we heard, but if the man's been in the Duke's employ for any real length of time he's probably familiar with two sets of orders being given at once, one for appearances and the other for results.
>>
>>414150

I want to do the combination of all of them if possible.

First
>”Who was this girl to you?”

Then
>”I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and liar, you would do well to leave him and seek the truth for yourself.”

Last
> Write in

What if we took the leader with us (Unarmed though) since the Duke might have road blocks set up, we could use him to help us get though, also since we have a high CHA level now we can convince him along the way that we're innocent, and use him as a mole, and possibly recruit other soldiers against the duke.
>>
>>414212
>road blocks
dude, what?
>>
>>414212
>I want to do everything
If only we could anon.
>road blocks
Duke probably wanted to keep this quiet, I doubt he has many more men looking for us, and if he's connected to the revolution going on then his forces are probably already busy.
>>
>>414212

I'm not sure about taking him with us. That could lead to betrayal against us, or by his own men against him. They will definitely report on their return that he was taken, so convincing him alone just means at best he'll be watched for treasonous inclinations.

>>414230

Not entirely out there, major roads for travel and trade should have guards patrolling them at least partially for the protection of citizens and merchants. With unsafe roads comes an unstable economy.
>>
>>414244
I just have trouble imagining how the logistics for that would work in a feudal agrarian society. Small numbers of soldiers wouldn't do much by themselves without rapid backup, so the groups would have to be fairly large, and they would have to cover a huge area, because Arthur should have no way of knowing in which direction we have fled. Unless he has scryers, in which case fuck everything. And they would have to camp there for how long? Patrols make sense, I guess.
>>
>>414170
It's hard to tell in the dark, but he does look stronger -- he looks like a fully-fledged greek statue now -- if that statue was a statue of a wrestler or a warrior...or a god.

“I didn’t do any of that. Your lord is a scoundrel and a liar and you would do well to leave him and seek out the truth for yourself.” You turn to leave, motioning to Graveler to bury these men so that cannot follow you.
“Wait! Then what is the truth? Tell me then! Tell me!”
“Who was this girl to you?” You say, without turning. He remains silent. Then…

“...we were to be wed in the fall, once she came of age.” Your stomach falls. He takes off his helmet and you see how young he really is, not much older than you in the real world. You turn around. He continues: “W-we were orphans from the same orphanage. Childhood friends, well -- ha, enemies would be closer I suppose -- we fought all the time” He wipes his eyes. You wait. “But, we soon moved from childish antics to real love. We promised each other we would...” He gulps. “Then 3 years ago she was adopted by the Duke. We were separated. She lived in his estate, forbidden to interact with anyone outside of the nobility or the estate premises. And so...I joined the town militia and trained...and broke myself to become worthy of her. Etiquette, swordsmanship, riding, I had no wealth, no title, only the strength of my arm and my mind. It was my sincerest wish to protect her, as a friend and then...as a man, as a husband. I rose through the ranks, high enough to stay in the same room as her, to speak with her. Have you ever loved wizard?” You remain silent. “Even such limited pleasantries were enough to make us happy. That is love. But I could never marry her. No title, no wealth. She was the daughter of the Duke and I was a peasant in some armor. But...the Duke, he saw something in me, or perhaps he understood our love, he gave me her hand, he promised her to me -- not 2 weeks before you kidnapped her. Before you killed her. And now the world is only jagged glass and razor blades.” He hangs his head.

This fucking asshole Duke Arthur. He will get what’s coming to him, and you’ll be there to deliver it. “What’s your name?”
“I am Wulf.”
“Wulf. Believe me when I say this. I did not kill the Duke’s daught-- your fiance. I don’t even know her name. It was your Duke, he is a vile and despicable creature, he was the one that led your fiance to her death.”
“You lie! The Duke is a kind man, a merciful man, beloved by the people. He-he was the one who made the impossible happen, to allow someone like me wed the one I loved. No (he shakes his head)...you are a liar. The Duke advised me as much.”
(1/2)
>>
>>414368
Fucking hell. Wait! Wait a minute. Name! Name! That’s it!
“What was the name of your fiance? Before she was adopted (in case a name change was given)”
“...She was called Malia -- gentle waters.” With the true name...you can summon her spirit and clear everything up...except you don’t have that ritual or spell. Shit. Wait...what about binding? It could work. You look back at the pitiful face of Wulf.
“Do you have a token of hers? Something personal.” He hesitates.
“Why?”
“I believe I can clear my name, and you may have a chance to speak to your beloved again.” His eyes grow wide. He frantically searches his pockets and pulls out a intricately embroidered handkerchief.
“Will this do? It was a token of her love.” You take the handkerchief. This could work.

>Follow through with the binding ritual (what will you bind the spirit to?)

His helmet. His helmet.
>>
>>414372
Can't we contract her to Wulf?
I can't think of anything sensible to bind her to.
>>
>>414372
>>Follow through with the binding ritual (what will you bind the spirit to?)
It lasts for one year so w should choose something nice but inconspicuous. Does he have a ring or necklace?
>>
>>414396
backing.
>>
By the by we are using this ritual:

>Bind Uncommon Spirit
Needs token of spirit (common)
Needs true name of spirit
Difficult incantation
[/b]Complex runes on object to be bound[/b]
Needs 5 minutes of deep meditation
Time limit: till next solar eclipse (~1 year)
1 spirit per object

So far only >>414394 will work (carve the runes onto his flesh)
>>
>>414415
Could we bind her to graveler?
>>
>>414421
While that would be hilarious (in a dark, tragic way), no, because Graveler is a being of aether himself.
>>
>>414430
Well if we bind her to him he'll still be in control and be able to talk to her right? Would a horse work as well for this purpose? We're still unclear on the binding rules.
>>
>>414415
I assume the runes on the object to be bound are the problem? What about his shirt, would that work? Would be very romantic.
>>
>>414440
Correct. And that could work...if you had needle and thread. You could then embroider the runes. But you do not.
>>
>>414438
Horse would work (definitely gives guy on top a new meaning). As for what happens if you bind her to him, you don't know, but you're certain he won't die or lose his mind or anything like that.
>>
>>414457
Well It'd be funny to bind her to a horse, I think it is best we bind her to him.
>>
>>414453
can't we use paint? Or use Graveler to do some engraving? could he engrave metal? Could a greater elemental engrave metal?
>>
>>414469
1. Yes (but you have none)
2. Yes (but he'd need tools like anyone else
3. He doesn't have anything sharp enough to cut metal
3. Yes, depending on the elemental. A greater earth elemental could probably create a diamond edge (or something similar) to carve with.
>>
>>414457

What if we had Graveler bring up a bunch of clay and form it into a shape similar to what Wulf says she looked like, kind of like making a mannequin (or golem I suppose) and bind her to that?
>>
>>414487
>Paint works
>Engraving works
Then let's go to a nearby village and get some tools or paint. Shouldn't be too hard if they cover for us.
>>
>>414488
Also possible, but a full-size moving golem that looks like a human being would probably be too much for a common elemental to create (even an empowered one).

If you still want to do this, choose two:

>Life-size
>Looks like Malia
>Can move
>>
>>414487
>1. Yes (but you have none)
When in doubt, use blood.
>3. Yes, depending on the elemental. A greater earth elemental could probably create a diamond edge (or something similar) to carve with.
So that would be an option, assuming that contracting a greater earth elemental also allows us to do this.
Binding her to his body sounds more fun though, let's do that. Wonder how we're going to convince him to let us carve runes in his flesh?
>>
>>414493

Really tempted to summon a much stronger elemental to go for all three, just to show how powerful we are and to seriously get in the good graces of the Duke's people. But if nobody else wants to do that, I suppose making one that looks like her and can move is good enough.
>>
>>414508
This is cuter I think than binding her to his body, and also less painful. Let's do this.
>>
>>414500
>>414466
Bind her to him

>>414508
>>414519
Bind her to a golem

>>414438
Bind her to a horse

I misread this: >>414394
But no, contracting won't work because, it only gives the powers and abilities of the spirit, not memory. He also wouldn't be able to speak to her either.
>>
>>414519

Just curious, are you going for the "looks like her and can move" or summoning a more powerful elemental for all three?

Please be all three. That insanely positive propaganda piece and intimidation factor.
>>
>>414508
I'll vote for using a stronger elemental to do it. Contract a greater earth elemental and make a golem.
>>
>>414540
I'm fine with either. It'd be cute if he could run away with her and live happily for the next year. John can even do the marriage ceremony in preparation for ours of course
>>
>>414540
Powerful elemental for all three.

>>414541
Is the tie-breaker I guess. Writing.
>>
Also I think we should research this ritual next.
>>414415
>>Bind Uncommon Spirit
>Needs token of spirit (common)
>Needs true name of spirit
>Difficult incantation
>[/b]Complex runes on object to be bound[/b]
>Needs 5 minutes of deep meditation
>Time limit: till next solar eclipse (~1 year)
>1 spirit per object
Then create rituals that last a year. give us the powers of every greater elemental, every day, and we only have to refresh it once a year. Wizards really are OP.
>>
>>414555

Not only us, but Ben and John as well. Anyone in our party or traveling with us, really. Definitely worth remembering for later.
>>
>>414563
I fully expect there to be some restriction like "you can only have one contract per person at a time", since we haven't met an enemy yet that wouldn't be steamrolled by the power of a greater elemental.
>>

Maybe, OP did say it is possible for us to army-of-one this stuff and make rituals that summon several elementals or undead, including creating one that lets us raise all who die in a given distance around us for a given amount of time if we learned the "within x distance" condition.

On the note of remembering things to research for later, OP, would you be against Bob keeping a journal for research notes/plans so as soon as one finishes another can pick up? We've been kind of forgetful with starting new research as soon as we're able.
>>
You look at Wulf, he looks so hopeful now. You sigh. Alright what the hell, but if you’re doing this you’ll do this right. You release Graveler and cut open your hand to start the Contract Greater Elemental ritual. It takes a few seconds to collect the necessary amount of blood and then a few minutes to draw the runes with your blood on the ground. Wulf and his men watch in wonder at your work.

Once the runes are finished you begin the dance. It’s hammertime. You hammertime around the runes, a few seconds later you almost throw up from the tremendous surge of power that takes your body. You are in a vast empty field of stars and stellar mists. A titan, the size of a mountain, is lying on its side. It’s eye is the size of a lake, it stares at you lazily and yawns.
“Thou wishes my power, mortal?”
“Y-yes”
“Hmm...so be it. Thy ritual is acceptable.” His eye closes and you feel as if you are falling from a great height. Then darkness. Then you are back on the ground, but you can feel power at every pore.
“Wulf-- woah” Your voice has a strange echo to it. “Wulf come here.” Wulf slowly approaches you. You raise your hand over the ground, immediately the earth splits open and an uncarved block of soft clay sprouts like a tree. “Tell me what she looked like.” He’s frozen at first, but then begins describing her to you, round face, thin nose, high cheeks, large, symmetrical eyes, long golden hair to her waist, tied in braids, height and weight, bust and hip, clothing too, you carve it all, simply by thinking it. Carefully adding and subtracting, revising and renewing. Soon a near-perfect model of Malia emerges from the lifeless stone. You can feel your contractual powers fading, 30 minutes have almost passed. You begin work on the runes, etching them on to her dress to avoid marring her delicate skin. You finish just in time, the contract is over and the powers leave you.

You begin your meditation and the incantation to complete the ritual. Patiently, you speak the nonsense syllables keeping soul from mud. The soldiers look on in silence and some with horror. The incantation is finished. You point to the golem. A point of light, no larger than a firefly's tail, floats from your outstretched finger onto the forehead of the golem. Then it disappears behind the stone. You hold your breath...the golem stirs. You are a fucking god.

“W-wulfie?” Says the golem-Malia ‘Wulfie’? You smirk. You turn to ‘Wulfie’. Tears are streaming down his face, he stands frozen in awe.
“Well, go and embrace her.” You say. You stand and give him a little shove. He charges and embraces Malia, and Malia returns the embrace. There’s something in your eye, you turn away. The soldiers cheer. Wizards. Every. Fucking. Time.

After things calm down, Malia explains how the Elves killed her. It was Galinael that convinced everyone to...feed. She doesn’t know the rest of the story, but she has at least absolved you of all blame, by saying that she has never seen you before. Wulf believes her, and the men believe Wulf (they probably also don’t want to fuck with someone who literally just brought someone back to life).

Wulf and his men decide to camp out off the road and they wish to take counsel with you. They are much more willing to listen to your words now.

You might want to close and reopen your browser, friend. It's likely been open far too long and isn't updating properly. The last post in the last thread was a link to here, and... well, we've made several choices beyond the one you voted for already.

evidently my 4chan derped and the new thread link in the old thread only just appeared (in fact that whole part of that post wasn't there) I was really pissed and had typed up a tiny green text rant, posted it, then went back to the old thread to link this thread, only to find that it was there.

Anyways, only thing I would change if I could is

To tell him everything.

It is actually surprising me how much my fellow anons are picking similar decisions to me.

Thank you anons for not being dicks for once.

Op, we understand that /"Life Happens™ "/ just make sure to always come back and we'll always forgive you.
>>
>>415533
Yea, it was a glitch, but not due to not updating. That whole last two thirds of that last message in the old thread just wasn't showing, nor was that there was a spoiler in that message..., as why now that is I deleted the ranty messages.
>>
>>415563
I just sortof hate it when qst masters don't link their threads, and I guess it just flicks the right switch to toggle rage mode.
>>
>>415568
And usually when ops don't link their threads the dick anons run for left field and chose (in my opinion) the compleatly wrong choice. As such I tend to intentionally ignore everything after the first choice in the new thread when this happens, and try to get the op to abandon everything since that point.

Since this is now the fifth reply in a row, im saging.

>>415571
>As such I tend to intentionally ignore everything after the first choice in the new thread when this happens, and try to get the op to abandon everything since that point.

That seems rather entitled of you. I get what you mean by people choosing the wrong choice, reading through some quests, or archives of quests I'll sometimes find myself wondering just what some people are thinking. But it's part of the challenge, quests are a story co-authored by QMs and the anons that partake in their threads. If someone does something "wrong" then roll with the punches and find ways to play around it. If you can't, maybe having someone run a single player game with you may be more to your style. After all, adapting to hardships that befall our character is half of the fun, no matter how they come about. Maybe other anons have seen the same signs you saw, and know what they're asking for but feel they must take that option anyway, simply to keep the character from becoming some kind of Mary Sue. Flaws can keep a character feeling human, even if they're generally centered around occasionally making bad choices.

Might I recommend you hit up any of the other boards of your choosing for a healthy, relaxing fap to calm your nerves and mellow your anger somewhat?

You agree to join them, it’s been a hectic day and you need time to organize your thoughts. Besides, it’s worth taking the effort to explain yourself, you might win an ally here. Wulf’s men set up a campfire and pitch their tents, Ben helps them. Wulf and Malia are having lovey-dovey exchanges by the fire. You and John are taking a walk to make sure the perimeter is secure. It’s a little awkward. John looks more handsome than before, likely he put more points into charisma. You’re not sure how many, but he probably still has more charisma than you.
“John. Maybe you don’t wanna hear this right now. But...I’m sorry. You were right about everything, this world…is real. Real as you and me. And-and we can’t think of these people as disposable --”
“It’s cool man. I was wrong too. I mean as it turns out we were tricked this time, but in general, I guess sometimes you have to do the ugly thing for the greater good. I think I overreacted -- as usual. And well--I say that, but I’m still not convinced I actually know what the greater good is. Honestly...I’m a coward, Bob.” You remain silent. “Darla was right...I’m always running away from my problems. That’s why I can’t move on. That’s why...I don’t really want to leave this game. It’s an escape, the ultimate escape, I mean look at this place! Look at us! But...however real this world might seem, this isn’t who we really are.”
“If you’re a coward for that, then so am I. So is pretty much everyone who plays this game.” You say. “It’s a weird feeling. I know this place isn’t real, but when I helped Wulf back there, I felt genuine joy at his happiness. And when we...when I, killed those Elves, I felt physically sick. What kind of game is this really? What were the developers thinking?”
“I wonder…”

Wulf is calling for you both. You head back to the camp to dine and talk about the events that have transpired. Wulf is hesitant to accept the Duke’s treachery, but he believes in your innocence. He plans to take his men to Morotown to seek refuge with an old drill master. From there he will attempt to gather more information to see if your story really checks out. He also plans on marrying his clay wife. You tell him that the spirit will only be bound until the next solar eclipse (which is apparently in 4 and a half months). This makes the both of them depressed, but they perk up once you mention that you probably renew the ritual at that time, perhaps with a longer lasting (or even permanent) ritual on something a little more accommodating than clay (which certainly does no wonders for their...intimacy). Wulf looks suddenly serious:
“What if I recovered my love’s corpse?” Oh boy. You remember how the body of the Elf shriveled up once the other Elves began their feeding frenzy.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, my dear.” Says Malia. You concur.
“Then what can be done? Is she to remain in a fleshless husk forever?” Well...there might be a way to reconstruct the body, given this world and the power of your rituals, its probably not impossible. On the other hand you have no idea how hard it might be, so this might just be false hope.

And anyway, we have more pressing matters, I know you may not fully believe me yet, but as I’ve said, Arthur is planning a full scale war against the Elves, which he will then use to climb the ranks of nobility. We have to put a stop to this before war breaks out. Do you understand?” But of course, he’s more concerned about his soon-to-be wife than anything else. He nods in agreement, but he still has a worried look on his face.
“We promise to do what we can, master Wizard.” Says Malia. “But how can we keep in touch with you?” That’s a good question. Since they’re NPC’s you can’t just add them to your friends list. You look to Ben.
“We can use the wingmail service. Most major towns have them, Morotown might. It’s a bit expensive, at least it was last time I used it, but...it’s reliable and secure.”
“Right...wingmail (you don’t know what it is exactly but its name is self-explanatory)” You nod. “Alright, then. That’s settled.”
“And what will you do master Wziard? Where will you go?” Now that’s a good question.

“We will head south. Beyond the Teeth of Zarakib and into the deserts of Noutria. We hope to meet with King Phil.” Ben is wide-eyed. As are the soldiers (who have stopped all chatter and are now listening intently).
“You are heading for the Floating Citadel?” Asks Wulf.
“If that is where King Phil lives, then yes.” Gasps all around. Ok what the hell is going on now? “Did I miss something?”
“Lad…(Ben wets his lips and coughs) if you’re planning on crossing over the Teeth of Zarakib -- well it’s not an easy journey, but even if you do manage to cross over -- you’ll have to traverse the Desert of Two Moons -- a boundless wasteland filled with sand-whales and dust storms --”
“And it never goes dark!” One of the soldiers speaks out, then quickly shuts up.
“Aye lad, the moons shine as twin stars in the darkness and there is no escape from the heat, even at night. And even if we make it across the desert, the Floating Citadel, Cawold Patoon, is built on featherstone, it floats 100 miles above the desert sands, anchored to the earth by a vast chain of steel and adamantine. There is no magical way to scale that height lad, the air is poison -- orichalcum dust -- which you as know, resists magic. You could climb the chain, aye, but 100 miles straight into the heat? Madness, only madness.”
“But people do live there. They have a king!” Says John. You nod in agreement. Ben shakes his head.
“They all make the journey, king and serf alike, such is the law of Cawold Patoon. Of those that live there, few, maybe none, save for the king himself, ever return to the surface. Few are the men that have seen the paradise above the sands, save those who were born there.” Shit.

>>417009
To theasta, better team up with legolas and maybe find a water mage to accompany us in that desert, we have to get on the floating city sooner or later
>>
>>417171
Can a water mage do something an elemental cannot, as far as we know? At least for basic drinking water, our elementals should suffice. Not that I mind having a water mage around, but that isn't enough of a reason to head for Theasta.
>>
>>417193
What is your plan to climb the 100 miles of chain to reach the castle? And even if King Phil wants to do something, nobody else who is there has left, why would they be interested in stopping this war?
>>
>>417225
>nobody else who is there has left, why would they be interested in stopping this war?
This is a good argument, which I have no answer too, except Legolas told us to go to King Phil. So either he is in on Arthur's plan or he expects King Phil to actually do something about it. Either way, heading to Theasta seems like a bad Idea.

For plans:
How about getting a flying mount that can carry us to that height?
Or just regular magic flight, as long as we stay above the Island we shouldn't be affected by the dust.
I have others, but those are the fastest.
>>
>>417225
Could we not use our knowledge of modern technology like gas mask, or alchemy to make some type of item, that would allow us to breath, or not need to breath? Maybe even find some type of creature that we could use to fly us over the desert, or use a earth elemental to simply give a us a ride?
>>
Hmmm... I guess I'll change back to head for King Phil. Do contact Lelogas though, ask about his position.
>>
>>417268
One way to make an air filter is activated carbon, we would have to try making that with the help of an earth elemental.
>>
Well we're back to a tie. So I'll wait (I'd rather not leave this decision to dice)
>>
Thinking about it though, assuming Legolas is participating in Arthur's plan and doesn't want us to go to Theasta, maybe we should? On the other hand, Arthur enginered for us to flee by basically telling us to, and also how to do it, so maybe us going to Theasta is exactly what he wants. So I'll just stick with my intuitive dislike of politics and vote for either going to King Phil, Or spend a few month creating an army and then defeating Arthur ourselves.

If we're set on going through the desert (man I fucking hate deserts) then we should definitely give Lelogas a call. See if he's got any pointers, and then go back to channeling our Alchemy teacher to try to make unmelting ice, or anything similar. We'll also need appropriate clothes. White cloth that covers us completely. Making air filters, as >>417319 recommended is good too. If we're able to make unmelting ice, or at least ice that lasts a long time before it melts, we'd do well to fashion it into bracelets that can be easily removed, that way it cools our blood in a major vein, cooling the rest of our body, but can be moved regularly to keep us from getting frostbite. Or we could just put a bunch of it inside our baggy clothes, cooling the air around us instead of our body directly. Assuming it's even possible to make something like that.
>>
>>417452
I am, I'm just not sure if we can do it without breaking it's wings. And I doubt John can heal undead.

The dragon we heard about demanded tribute. We can ambush it while it's landed to collect tribute, then use an earth elemental to hold it and/or an air elemental to keep it from taking off, then a water elemental to drown it.
>>
>>417489
I still think that binding is the key. We could bind an elemental of ice for a year inside a huge piece of cloth from which we could fashion self-refrigerating air filters and clothes.
>>
>>417527

Or that, yeah.

Actually, wait a minute. We already know where we might get ice that may not melt. We just have to go back to the ice tower and climb to the top to be sure. Now as for climbing up to the city, I wonder if there's a place we can get featherstone, or if it's something we can make via alchemy or binding. If it is, we could just do that, making a nice sized chunk so we can fly our way over the desert and to the Floating Citadel in relative comfort.
>>
>>417587
Didn't we melted with heat? If i don't recall wrong it didn't melted normally just because the tower was enchanted by some ice mage, so probably we should just contract a greater empowered ice elemental and we can craft real unmelting ice, or we could just summon a simple ice or air elemental everyday to keep us fresh
>>
>>417587
The thing about featherstone is, we don't really know how it works. does it have a carrying capacity, so we could basically make an airship by using balast? or does it just go up regardless of how much weight you put on in? That would explain why the Floating citadel is chained down. Unless it's just to make sure it stays in one place.
>>
Before we do anything else, let's add a spell to our cane. Might as well get use out of it.
>>
By contracting elemental we basically become mages. I wander if we contract the power of a dead cleric we might be able to manipulate ether as well
>>
>>417625

Most of it did, but we didn't make it to the top. The temps kept getting colder and colder, and Cyko did say some of it didn't even melt. Given, he also said maybe that was due to the temps in the place. So it's not really a guarantee. Yeah, let's go with an ice elemental or something. It won't be as pressing of a need if we're able to get featherstone or anything else to let us just fly over the desert. Ideally we should move fast enough so as not to be stuck in the heat forever, and the wind should help keep us somewhat cool.

>>417655

True. But going that route would require at least a little bit of research anyway, which could let us know if it's an idea we could even use.

Speaking of ideas we could use, if we wanted to be fairly "cheap" in our travels, could we use wingmail to send a recall stone to King Phil, then recall to that stone after enough time for it to reach him?
>>
>>417664
Seconding this. I propose:
>Bind elemental of ice, to summon free once a day to refrigerate us in the journey
Or
>bind greater elemental of fire because it was a scary guy
>>
>>417667
The question is, can we contract the spirits of dead players? Or are there NPC clerics?

>>417668
>use wingmail
That is genius, and if it works I'm declaring you King of ideas. Only question is if wingmail can reach the citadel.
>>
>>417668
Our recall stone busted when we saved John, I still believe that creating a flying horse for one year wouldn't be really difficult
>>
>>417690
>That is genius, and if it works I'm declaring you King of ideas.

No need. Did I mention how much I really fucking hate deserts? That's just my key motivation here.

Besides, I think we're running pretty low on recall stones at the moment. We have one in a cave Geodude dug out for our alchemy stuff and other supplies we can't carry with us to be safe, we burned one out getting to John, and John has one. But is that all, or do we still have an extra? I can't remember. So we'll need to find, buy, or borrow a stone.
>>
>>417696
You need two stones, assuming we didn't burn out both of our stones teleporting to John, we should be good. We'll have no way of getting back though, for that we would need two more stones.
Or not, we can just use wingmail to send one of the stones back if we know someone we can trust who is where we want to be.
This idea is just indescribably awesome, travel at the speed of wingmail.
>>
>>417715
We don't know anyone that lives there, we just have to ask how long does it take to reach the city with wingmail and use the stone at the right time
>>
>>417715
>We'll have no way of getting back though, for that we would need two more stones.

I thought three stones total would do it. One kept on you, held in your hands to pull you towards the other, one in a stationary location you wish to go to, and another in a separate stationary location to go to once your business with the first is concluded.

You know... let's talk to Lelogas right now. Robin isn't known by the Duke, right? But we know the Duke probably has at least one recall stone. We can see if she could steal some from the Duke for us. We're asking for a lot of favors from them I know, but if the Duke has a bunch of stones that may make up for things.
>>
>>417751
>You know... let's talk to Lelogas right now. Robin isn't known by the Duke, right?

Second thought, scratch that. Let's get Wulf & Co completely on our side. Or at least enough that they'll agree to look for and send some of the Duke's stones our way. Then we're not imposing on Lelogas anymore and as loyal subordinates they probably won't be under suspicion either. Just a really good thief, likely blamed on us. Which really isn't far from the truth anyway.
>>
>>417715
I feel bad for doing this but...

>>413874

> Wait -- actually there is one way, you can use the recall stones to teleport to another recall stone whose owner is on your friends list,
>>
>>417800

Oh good, I was already thinking of something along that lines. We should just send a simple letter to King Phil explaining we must speak to him soon for matters of security, and that we're seeking asylum. Ask for a recall stone in the letter, make sure he knows our player name and John's name, and that we have one extra with us, a non-player. Giving some sort of heads up would actually be far better than receiving a stone, then having three of us randomly show up. There's no telling what he'd do with the stone without warning anyway, he may toss it out and feed it to a sand-whale or something. At least this way he can add us to his friends list and contact us. We'll probably have to talk our way through, but we may end up with a borrowed stone for our trouble.
>>
>>417800
The plan isn't to burn out a recall stone, the plan is to pair two recall stones and send one of them to him via wingmail, then just use the stone normally.
>>
>>417800
Wingmail can actually reach there?
>>
>>417822
>The plan isn't to burn out a recall stone

This. We burned one out, but they're pretty finite in number, unless there's some way of creating them we don't know about. Except in emergencies where the party is split, I'd rather not burn another out.

Although... did we save the burned-out stone? I'm really hopeful that there's a way to recharge it that people aren't openly aware of.
>>
>>417822
Ahhh, I see. Ok this will work, friends list or otherwise.
>>
>>417840
Welp, looks like you just broke travel.
Congratulations!
>>
>>417845
What's the size limit on wingmail? Can we send Arthur a mail bomb?
>>
>>417845

Then we should make absolutely sure if we send a stone first that we mention in a letter with it how many people are in our party and coming to seek his aid. Hell, we could even ask that he place the stone in a jail cell or something if he wishes to be sure, we just need to visit him soon, for our safety and to help prevent a war.

In the traditional RPG, healing undead would kill it. We would want to cast harm to it or weakness.
>>
>>417895
I don't think we have seen spells like that yet. Maybe poison would work?

Maybe we should try resurrecting a small enemy before experimenting on a dragon.
I can't imagine a zombie dragon being easy to ride on 100 miles upward.

We should try to think of a parachute, or a planer. Or an escape route. It's usually easier to go down than up, but it requires some planing.

But you’re a motherfucking wizard. And a relatively high-level one at that. Since do wizards give a fuck about anything? “We are still going. Our mission is too urgent to be waylaid by fear and apprehension.”
“Bob...are you sure about this?” Says John.
“Certain.” You say. John nods.
“Then I’m with you. But I hope you have a plan.”
“I do. Ben, does the Floating Citadel receive wingmail?”
“Well...I suppose so, wingmail is carried on the backs of cloudeaters -- it’s not magic, so...there should be no reason why they cannot go to the Floating Citadel, except of course, for the Kupeta -- winged scavengers of the Noutrian desert. But…”
“But?”
“A swarm of cloudeaters could keep even the Kupeta, at bay. It’s possible. But expensive.”
“How expensive?”
“A single wingmail message, costs 35 silver pieces. To hire an entire cloudeater for one message, 80 silver pieces. A swarm would need at least 100 cloudeaters. So 8000 silver pieces, or 80 gold pieces. A modest sum, you’ll agree.” Modest sum indeed. But these are desperate times.
“Wait I don’t get it. Why wingmail?” Asks John.
“Do you still have your recall stone John?” His eyes go wide as the understanding comes to him. He nods hard. This should work. This will work. Now the only question remains, do you go with Wulf to Morotown (the nearest town which might have wingmail services)? Or go alone using your own (probably faster) means? Either way you need to wait until tomorrow before you can use your rituals again.

Better to go with Wulf, it will be slower, but it’s better to conserve your rituals for when you really need them. Wulf decides he does not want to involve his men in case things go awry, but he also knows that releasing them will not solve anything. Still, Wulf suggests to his second-in-command that the men disband for their own safety; in response, the second-in-command, a short, gruff old man almost came to blows with Wulf. Not out of anger, but loyalty. Wulf is a good leader and beloved by his men. They will follow him, perhaps to the death (and perhaps not, if you can help it).

The journey to Morotown takes a week on horseback (you see now the advantage of the Hoppers, but fugitives can’t be choosers). Morotown is much the same as you left it. A port town with the smell of the sea wafting between the tightly packed buildings and the pungent taste of fish and saltwater in the air.

“Thank you, Bob, for everything.” Says Wulf. You nod.
“Take care of yourself and let me know if you hear anything about the Duke.” You give him a gold piece for sending the wingmail, he refuses to take it even after you try and force it on him -- an honorable man, if there ever was one. You and his men part ways here, they head for the fortress on the coast, where resides Wulf’s drill instructor, Kent. You and your party head for the Wingmail tower.
“Y’see lad, cloudeaters never land. So it’s difficult to capture and train them for use in sending messages.”
“If they never land, how do they eat? Sleep? ...breed?” Asks John.
“On the wing.” Says Ben, simply.
“They sleep on the wing?” Asks John.
“They breed on the wing?” You ask. Ben chuckles.
“Aye, they can sleep while flying and their mating rituals are done in flight. Their eggs are carried in an external pouch on their belly. And the young cloudeater chicks begin flying from the first moment they hatch. They feed on cloud dew and insects and, some say, starshine, though that’s probably more myth than fact.” As you walk through the town, a long, thin tower comes into view, built into a bluff overlooking the sea.
“How do you know so much about these birds?” You ask. Ben smiles sadly.
“Cloudeaters originally hailed from the empty fields of Menione -- my homeland. Many predators wander the flat, coverless lands, terrible and terrifying, thus the great spirits saw fit to allow these birds to live forever upon the clouds. When the Pie Warrior (he spits out this name like bitter poison) discovered our lands, he saw that the cloudeaters could be used for communication and brought them back to his own lands -- and the rest, as they say, is history.” You are before the tower. Luckily you won’t have to go all the way up, the service counter is on the ground floor in a very small chamber with a wizened old man snoring soundly at his seat.

(1/2)
>>
>>420364
“Ahem!”
“W-what? Who is it? Ah...customers. Welcome. Welcome.”
“We need to send a parcel to the king of Noutria, it’s urgent.” You say.
“...sigh, why must you mock an old man in his old age?”
“It’s no mock --”
“Messages to Noutria are given on the swarm the first of every month, understand? As for reaching the king (he rolls his eyes and one of them actually get’s stuck in his skull, he blinks a few times and the eye corrects itself), well I can write the address but whether it reaches him personally or not is a matter for his discretion.”
“We need to send the message now.” Says John.
“Really now boy, are you hard of hearing, hmm? Hmmmm?”
“No.” You say.
“Whaaat? (he holds up an ear) Oh. Yes. Well the only way to send a message is through the swarms. First of the month. Come back in...what day is it today? Come back in 3 weeks.”
“We don’t have three weeks, we’ll hire another swarm.” You say.
“Ha! You’ll need gold for that boy--”
“Gold we have” You slap your purse of gold on the counter. The old man bolts up from the thud.
“Of-of course my lord! What was I saying before? Yes, yes, no, we can get your message, we can send it out this very moment in fact. But...that will be 85 gold pieces my lord. 85. Eight, five? Is...is there that many in that purse?”
“There is.”
“Excellent my lord! Yes, yes, yes. So shall I take dictation my lord? I have very fine penmenship, years of practice you know, hahahaha…”
“First, we need to send this object (you place John’s recall stone on the table). As for the message…”

What will you include in the letter to the King?

>>420920
Not long. It would be continuous flight directly to your destination (since cloudeaters don't fly and you are hiring a personal swarm), so 1 week at most.

>>420541
We'll go with this. The old man writes the note for you and packages the recall stone in a small box. You hand him the gold (-85 gp, 43 gp 53s left) and he proceeds to wall jump his way up to the top of the tower (probably with the assistance of aether). You leave the tower, still in low spirits at the possible doom that awaits you, but now with a shard of hope lodged in your stomaches.

It'll be two weeks before you receive any word by wingmail (1 week for your message to get there, 1 week to get a return message). You'll have to spend this time wisely.

What will you do?
>>
>>421006
We should try to get some more information on Arthurs plan. Maybe we could bind an elemental to a bug and have a literal fly on the wall?

>>421030
The more proof we gather the better, so seconding the bug. Also, >>420920
>I wanna fill our free slot in the Ivory Fante staff with a greater fire elemental summon.

Alchemy research. Let's try to find a potion that rejuvenates dead tissue. Alternatively, just make some money by creating angel's tears (or whatever that super powerful healing potion is called) and selling it watered down, like our teacher taught us. Or if we can't get the ingredients, do some other profitable potion. Research our former Alchemy teachers death by binding his spirit to a golem, maybe it's related to the plot.
>>
>>421006

It seems a bit excessive, but I actually want to second all three of these votes.

>>421030
>>421081
>>421350

We have a week, and putting a summon on our staff or binding an elemental to a bug for use as a spy shouldn't take that long. Alchemy research is always good, and if we can speak to Lavozieh then even better. He's probably got some interesting stories to tell as to how exactly he really ended up dead, possibly ties to the Duke's current activities against us. Or maybe it's more indirectly related, and someone is just cleaning up witnesses for the dirty little job we did. It'd be good to know if we've got any other enemies out there that we're not already aware of.
>>
>>421006
>>421776
>We have a week
Two weeks, whoops. It's one week by my count until our research on Contract Greater Elemental ends. Then we get to go with the next item on our queue. So we should probably figure out right now what that items is. Are we going with >>414555 or something else? In the last thread we also had the option for Research Summon 7 Uncommon Elementals, which should be added somewhere on the queue too. And someone also brought up "alchemy research (ritual/runic diagram ink-potions)"

>We can create an Ink potion that holds the form of a runic diagram, so instead of needing to draw a complex summoning circle and specific runes we simply smash the flash and the runes and circle are complete.

I'm not sure that would count under normal ritual research, so it's more we could try to pick up from Lavozieh over these two weeks.
>>
>>421811
Since we have a reverse research running now, we can probably research something better than 7 uncommon elementals. We also already queued up another reverse research which let's us summon stuff until the next solar eclipse.
>>
>>421081
>>421811
Also, I believe the staff only holds spells, not rituals. And our only spells are summon lesser elemental and bind lesser elemental, I think? (Spells are rituals that have no non-verbal conditions)
>>
>>421006
OP is kill :(
>>
Ok so far we have:

>Gather info on Arthurs plan by creating a spy-bug
>Fill free slot in the Fanti Staff
>Alchemy research -- rejuvenate dead tissue or make money through potion selling.
>Research Lavozieh's death

All of these can be done in the given time frame. Is there anything else to add?
>>
>>423895
Get that book, Wizards are OP again. I dunno if we have enough to buy it, or even if we should. If we have time to create undead to transcribe the book, do that, otherwise just read as much as we can in a day.
>>
>>423895
First- >Fill free slot in the Fanti Staff

I think we could actually combine them both for

>Alchemy research -- rejuvenate dead tissue or make money through potion selling.
>Research Lavozieh's death

We could bind his spirit so he could teach us some things to build up our treasury again, while asking him questions about how he died.

I would do the spy bug, but only if we could get the info before Phil replies to us since having some evidence would help convince him.
>>
>>423895
Create the worlds first Ink-Bomb Instant Ritual potions! (A potion that when thrown, instantly splatters runic symbols and/or summoning circles in order to hasten the speed at which a wizard can perform MIRACLES)
>>
>>424064
How would this actually work though? I can imagine some kind of movable-type style contraption which, when fed with ink, can "print" runes onto a surface, but a potion that does this seems beyond the ken of alchemy.
>>
>>424708
not the one that came up with the idea, but i' imagine a low explosive shaped charge. the small explosion would rupture shaped vessels of ink, throwing the ink at what ever was under it.
>>
>>424708
>I can imagine some kind of movable-type style contraption which, when fed with ink, can "print" runes onto a surface

Now I'm imagining some type of stamp. Maybe a stencil.
>>
>>424708
Maybe bind a water elemental to a bottle of ink with very specific orders?
>>
>>424708
Could we do something similiar to like how the staff works with remembering chants? Maybe use magic on the glass the ink is in where we can engrave the ritual symbols on the glass and when thrown the enchantment we put on the glass will have the substance in it take the form of the shape engraved on the glass?
>>
>>424708
An explosive magical stamp. Magic Yo.

We could get a water elemental to imbue each ink-vial with a preset pattern upon shattering.

Or we could just literally make a stamp and affix it to our staff
>>
Wake up!
>>
I think the point of runes is that they have to be drawn each time, so we can't make a reusable stamp.
But we can find a way to draw them in advance on a glass bottle of ink, and when broken, the drawing transmit to the ink (by magic).
That or a single-use stamp. Maybe it can lose it's drawings by magic when used?
>>
Those ideas to speed up drawing runes are nice and all but ideally, all our newly researched spells would be entirely spoken, so we can store them in the staff.
And I think the easiest way to speed up drawing runes is taking that perk that removes conditions if we are high enough above sea level and get a flying mount, removing the need to draw runes entirely.
>>
>>425513
This is what I'm imagining as well.

The problem with >>426924
>>426159
is doesn't really make sense in the context of the magic system for you to be able to do this. This neither falls under alchemy nor rituals.

Instead, here are the options:

>Hire a craftsman to fashion a mechanical device, per your design, which is essentially a stamp or movable-type which uses ink and which "print" the necessary runes in one shot
>Bind spirits to golems or such creatures and have them draw the runes for you
>Summon a water elemental to manipulate ink to draw the necessary runes, quickly.

You guys can deliberate which one you prefer, meanwhile I'm going to move forward.
>>
>>426948
The magical system rewards creativity, I'd expect that the more we stretch it the more we can learn about the universe. It seems you're adamant on nerfing my idea though and I can respect that, I'll go with the mechanical device.
>>
>>425659
Also regarding the staff, the ivory itself has this property, it's not an enchantment (I guess it'd be "natural magic"), it's a borrowed property of the Fanti, who essentially have eidetic memory.

You have two weeks before you receive any reply from the King. Real-world
instantaneous communication has certainly spoiled you, but waiting two weeks is
better than trekking 3 months into the harsh wilderness.

In the meantime you cannot stay idle. The first thing you do is finally put
your Fanti staff to some use (you had been using it as a walking cane thus far
and had almost forgotten its special "memory" property). You speak the
incantation for the Contract Greater Elemental ritual and "store" it in the
Fanti staff. Glowing letters appear on the surface of the staff indicating that
it worked.

Next, you decide that you need to gather more information on Arthur. You need
something inconspicuous, something which can obtain information without Arthur
noticing. You decide to go full NSA-surveillance and bind the spirit of a dead
spy (whose name you found in the town registry -- with surprisingly little
effort, it seems your Charisma stat is finally high enough to have some
influence) onto a fly. The spirit isn't happy about it but it has no choice.
You send the fly to observe Arthur in his estate and gather whatever
information he can. He will return with information every few days.

Finally, you spend the remainder of your time, harnessing Lavozieh's dead
spirit to alchemy up some potions. Originally you wanted to make a potion which
could restore dead tissue, but apparently this is extremely difficult to do.
You'll need some particularly rare ingredients (Phoenix ashes being the
rarest), so instead, you buy some common reagents and make some potions to sell
in the town. To your surprise, healing potions are not nearly as popular as
"love potions" potions which make "love-making a risk-less venture". In other
words: contraceptives. The other alchemists refused to tell you the recipe so
you had to noodle out your own (Lavozieh was basically no help in this field,
either he never had sex or he always did it raw). [Please roll 1d6 to see how
well your "love-potion" turned out and how much money you made]

(1/3)
>>
>>427109
Meanwhile, John and Ben have been out on their own, working independently. John
has been selling enchanted goods and training his ether manipulation (which he
apparently has a great quantity of, now). Ben, has been gathering information
and doing odd jobs.

Lastly, you bound Lavozieh's spirit to a doll to ask him how he died. He's not
pleased to be bound in such a way, and even less to be dead, but the
conversation is enlightening nonetheless:
"I see you spared no expense in choosing an appropriate vessel. Hmph."
"Sorry, it's been a little hectic, I did the best I could under the
circumstances."
"Yes. Yes. Well, I assume you've called me to figure out the circumstances
around my death? Particularly whether they concern our little...venture, in the
past?"
"...Yes. I think it might have some relation to some other stuff that's been
going on."
"I was assassinated. Well -- the public record will show my death as a
consequence of the revolution -- but make no mistake, the ones who killed me
were hired and trained assassins."
"Can you think of anyone --"
"What, enemies? Of course I had enemies. I was a researcher and an aristocrat,
much of our daily effort is spent on the curtailing of antagonistic
efforts. I don't know who it was specifically that wanted me dead, what I do
know, and this I remember very distinctly, is that the killers spoke of "guild
dues" and something about waiving them and becoming "Council Members". I'm not
familiar with how these guilds work, nor do I really care, but I do know that
guilds are not allowed to accept assassination missions within Theasta under
the strict bylaws of the Theastan senate. Failure to comply results in
dissolution of the guild's quarters and a permanent ban on future operations of
the guild in any of the Theastan territories. That is why Senator Marah --
ahem."
>>
>>427111
"What?"
"What?"
"You were saying something about Senator Marah."
"It's nothing of import."
"That's a lie. Why was Marah really killed?"
"...He wanted to dissolve the aristocracy."
"But that's not the only reason is it?"
"*sigh* Well I suppose there's no harm in tell you now. The Theastan senate
has been under the thumb of the Guild Alliance for several years now. Granted,
Marah was among the incorruptible, his intentions were "pure" even if they were
naive, but the majority of the senate were neatly in the pocket of the various
guilds of the Alliance."
"Wait what's the Guild Alliance?"
"Really now, you should hire a newsbug to keep up-to-date on these matters. The
Guild Alliance was founded some years ago to counter-act the tremendous
competitive pressure exerted by the largest guild -- the Gangsta Guild, I
believe they're called. This was nothing new. It is in the nature of the weak
to huddle together in the face of the indomitable. The Alliance consists of
30 or so guilds who all operate autonomously, but who avoid competition with one
another to be able to compete against the Gangsta Guild."
"And this Alliance...they are the ones that killed Marah?"
"Indeed. Or so I suspect. You see Marah played both sides of the battle -- he
wanted the aristocracy to be dissolved and their lands to be redistributed for
sale and development to the common people -- ludicrous, of course -- and he
also wanted to pass laws to forbid Guild infringement in the senatorial
process. The latter is nothing more than the elimination of corruption, but,
naturally, the corrupt refused to comply."
"So what's the problem? Why would they kill him if his laws weren't being
passed?"
"Because his laws were being passed. Marah, if nothing else, was a
skilled bureaucrat; every law which he could not pass in the senate, he
presented to to the public as a public mandate, allowing the people to bypass
the senate and vote directly on the laws. Normally this would not work,
people were too lazy or divided to gather the necessary votes, but the
people loved Marah, he was their champion of justice, and for him, they made an
exception. The laws were passed, the senate, bypassed."
"So...he was going to pass a law to eliminate the influence of the Guild
Alliance on the senate?"
"Eventually, yes. The law he was working on before his...untimely demise, was a
significant step toward the dissolution of the aristocracy. That would have
gotten him allies in senate, allies he would have needed to face the Guilds."
"...so the reason why you had me plant those documents--"
"--was to tarnish Marah's reputation, yes and to break the legitimacy of all the
previous laws Marah had passed. Or so I had thought, unfortunately...I too, was
merely a pawn in their game."
"What do you mean?"
"How do you think the revolution was sparked?"
"I...don't understand."
(3/4)
>>
>>427118
"Marah was the people's champion. Faced with irrefutable proof of his
wrong-doings, false, though they were, the people had two choices: accept that
Marah was not the person they had thought he was and thereby also accept
that they had all been hoodwinked, or, reject Marah's indictment and blame the
aristocracy for framing Marah."
"So...our documents had the opposite effect?" Holy shit. You actually caused a
revolution.
"No. That's just it...it had exactly its intended effect, that is, from the
perspective of those who had come up with the idea in the first place..."
"But that was you!"
"No. That was the Guild Alliance. They promised me a new lab, I foolishly
complied. Now that the aristocracy has crumbled, the balance of power will
shift to the senate, and by transitivity, to the Guild Alliance."
"Wait. Wait. Why? Why would they go so much trouble?"
"...Dorter Magic City is where the main headquarters of the Gangsta Guild lies.
Theasta contains all their major offices...I think you can piece together the
rest."
Holy shit. But, what does this have to do with the Duke? Or the Elves? Maybe
nothing. Or maybe you don't yet see the whole picture. You'll have to wait for
more info from your spy to put the pieces together. But you feel sick to your
stomach. Your little act was a domino in a much larger scheme, one that has
already gotten hundreds of people killed. And for what? What do these people
really want?

The end of the two weeks approaches quickly and, on cue, the cloudeater swarm
returns with a message from the king:

You wait for John and Ben to come back. You show them the note and decide to
wait one more day for the return of your flyspy. However, he does not return.
Either something happened -- the flyspy was killed or worse, caught -- or there
might just be some kind of delay. Either way you decide not to delay any
further and head for Cawold Patoon, the Floating Citadel.

Joining hands with Ben and John, you rub the recall stone and feel the familiar
tug at your navel and then...you are in a well-furnished room. Large windows of
colored glass let in pale blue light from all sides. It is night-time, but the
brightness of the light is so great that it feels more like twilight. The room
looks to be a living room or drawing room of some kind. There are divans along
the walls, in front and to the side of you, and in the center of the divans
there is a wide, shallow pool, whose borders lap the feet of the divans. The
other side of the room, the side on which you stand, has a tiled floor and a
small table, upon which your other recall stone lies.

It is hot and dry, but an occasional wet wind passes off of the
pool and unto your skin. There is no one else in the room. A single door made
of opaque glass, lies behind you.

What will you do?

Take the perk that allows us to summon things from height.

Summon Spirit Kings and Hundreds of Greater elementals.

Prepare to battle the King.

I'm also in favor of taking that perk, but I believe we would still be limited to performing each ritual once per day.

"Is there anyone here?" Says John.
"Hello?" You say.
"Great spirits above...I can't believe it, the Floating Citadel, the paradise
between the two moons." Says Ben, standing and looking out from a window.
You walk toward the nearest window and your knees go weak from the sight.

Hundreds of buildings are illuminated by gentle blue light, there are no clouds
and because you are so high up the stars appear as innumerable pinpricks of
light on the vast tapestry of black. There really are two moons. One is small;
the other large, but both them larger than Earth's moon and much brighter, so
bright that you can't even look at them for very long.

The land ends abruptly a few miles out and miles below you can clearly see the
vast desert extend out beyond the eye. Far, far in the distance you can see
jagged peaks arise from the earth like a set of shark's teeth. Mist and dust
flow through the streets of the city and down the edge of the floating rock,
forming slow-moving waterfalls. And at the western edge of the city, you can
see the great green-grey chain, as large as a country road, descend into the
desert, held taught by whatever invisible force keeps this impossible city,
floating.

Ben has actually fallen over and is trembling.
"Ben! What's wrong?" Says John.
"Lad...well...it's just so high" You smirk.
You get the feeling the desert wasn't the only reason Ben didn't want to come
here.

"So what do you think of my city? Glorious isn't it?" You turn around. King
Phil himself is standing at the door. He's wearing the same mask he was wearing
at the World Cup, white with two eyeholes and a similar simple robe. But he's
not carrying his lute. You're not sure what to do. Should you kneel? You kneel.
The other's kneel in suit.
>>
>>428243
"My friends...you bow to no one." Says King Phil, then he bursts out laughing.
"Man, I've always wanted to say that. Nah, but you don't have to kneel. You're
Bob right? And you must be John and this is...Ben?"
"An honor to meet you King." Says Ben, still kneeling.
"Seriously you don't need to kneel." Ben gets up, a little confused.
"Thank you for taking us seriously, we didn't know anywhere else to turn."
"Right. Right. So the recall stone worked? Interesting."
"So...you'll help us right?"
"Hmm? Uh...well we'll see, we'll see. Let's take this one step at a time, yeah?
You just got here, relax a little. Not every day we get visitors you know?"
It's strange but every time he speaks you feel drawn by his words, ready to do
whatever he asks. It's a frightening power he has.
"Well thanks for not putting us in a dungeon at least" Says John.
"Oh no, this is the dungeon. I had to take precautions you know." Wait what?
"Of course we don't reaaaaally have a dungeon -- no need for one, so I just
added a good lock to one of the drawing rooms."
"Wait. I thought...I thought you believed us, that you were going to help us?"
Says John.
"I don't remember saying anything like that. Anyway, we'll talk when the sun
comes up. You've had a long journey -- well kind of -- why don't you rest for a
bit." You really feel like resting all of a sudden. Wait.
"Wait. Wait a minute!" But he simply leaves the room and the door closes behind
him. You try the knob. Locked. Shit!

"What a King!" Says Ben, he's clearly been caught completely under the King's
charisma.
"What are we going to do Bob?"

A good question. What will you do?
>>
>>428249
So that's the power of maxing charisma. Fugg.
>Break our eardrums
>Break Johns eardrums
>Break bens eardrums
Hopefully this will mitigate the effects of King Phils charisma.
>>
>>428249
Take the Acrophilia perk.

Assuming the windows are open, or that we are able to open them and that air elementals allow sustained flight for ourselves and others:
Cast contract greater air elemental. Go to the city and find a wingmail to send back one of your recall stones, then hide for a bit over one week(don't wait for the answer).

Assuming recall stones are sufficiently indestructible (preferred): summon a greater fire elemental with empower (power). Contract a greater earth elemental to create a barrel closed one side. Use it to catapult one of your recall stones past the mountains. (yes, I know they're really far away) Only try this if you have reason to assume that recall stones are sturdy enough and fire elementals can create sufficiently big explosions and earth elemental constructs are sufficiently sturdy to not explode in the process, killing you all and also making King Phil mad that you trashed his painting room.
>>
>>428356
Some more details: Create a barrel that's about as thick as the recall stone, and very long. use earth elemental powers to acitvely keep it in shape. tell the empowered greter fire elemental to get in there, put in the stone and tell the elemental to blow itself up with the strongest explosion it can manage.

Ways to confirm if this is possible: ask party/friends list about how sturdy recall stones are, try getting a spirit that might know about explosions. (Can we re-bind Lavozieh while he's still bound to the golem?)
>>
I'm honestly tired of being at the mercy of/hounded by people much more powerful than us. I suggest we go hide innawoods(or more likely in the mountains, or on some volcano island if we can reach it) and amass enough power to stop others from pushing us around as they please, at least.
>>
>>428249
Wait until the next day but form an escape plan if necessary with John and Ben. I don't want the guy who was one of the orginal 3, and the most knowledgeable about the game hating us without at least knowing anything about him. I also don't think escaping from the city is easy.
>>
>>429354

This. There's probably a good chance we're being watched, so if we send off an elemental or anything that may be taken in poor spirit. Just gotta discuss plans on maybe how to resist his charisma (using pain as a distraction to keep focused, maybe?) and escape if things go rough.

Also, contact Lelogas and let him know we've arrived. Let him know what our situation is if he's got time to listen. If he doesn't, then this is just letting him know if Phil can be trusted.
>>
Geez, that Charisma is so high it's basically mind control...We need to figure out a countermeasure to that sort of thing...
>>
>>429426
>Phil can be trusted
That remains to be seen.
>>
>>430029
Its likely though that he probably has other things in place to watch us from. I mean he knows putting a lock on the door isn't much so having something else in place is a high probability. Lets not forget the fact that he met us without any guards, but by himself, so he he must be very powerful, and not think of us as a threat. We should keep it that way. Us fleeing only makes us seem like the liars with our accusation against Arthur, with all the things we did just to meet him, we should at least give it a shot.
>>
>>430055
I agree with giving it a shot, but with a charisma as powerful as his I can't help but feel suspicious.
>>
>>430029
>That remains to be seen.

Hence the "if" before the rest of my statement you quoted. Omitting the most important part isn't really a good thing, you know.

We might not be able to say whether or not we can trust Phil completely at the moment, but at the very least we would be able to let Lelogas we've arrived safely. If anything happens to us, no matter if we're temporarily prevented from being contacted or what, at least he'll know who's probably responsible. Not that I think he'd really act to avenge us, but Lelogas has been a good friend to us so far, checking in and thanking him for the advice to come here is the least we can do.
>>
>>429453
So idea, what if we get earplugs and enchant them with something that will listen to what he has to say and relay it back without the mind-controll-y charisma
>>
>>435420
We would still be in trouble if he removed his mask. When he talked to us he wasn't really even using them, they were more passive, with his voice having influence. If he removed his mask, and saw him we would likely be hypnotized.

This is weird because I thought QM said that players can't be effected by it, but again Phil is the player who knows everything about the game, so him being able to "mod" it doesn't sound out of the question. In all possibility he might even be able to make a portal for us to leave through.

As for a way to fight him, John being a cleric has a type of Daredevil power, where he can see the aether, or ether of a person (I forgot which). If he wore a blindfold he would be able to still in a way see Phil, but not actually have to look at his face, so that's one type of plan.
>>
>>436600
In short we need to
>avoid looking at him
>avoid listening to his voice
>still have a way to talk with him
>still have a way to fight him
We can do fighting through the blindfold method as well as elementals. That means we need a way to avoid his massive CHA. We could try blindfolds, but I think we'll have to destroy our eardrums to cancel his voice. That of course means we have no method of communication with him, so either john or ourselves is a sacrifice, or we learn braile really quickly.
>>
Some bad news (or good, depending on how you look at it), I won't be able to continue the quest until later this weekend. In meantime, in light of a recent review in the qtg thread, I'll be trying to brainstorm some new ideas and concepts to add into the quest.

>>436859
>>436600
>>435420

I should mention, his charisma is not so strong that you can't resist. It's more like whenever he talks it feels like an authority figure so you feel compelled to agree (but not necessarily obey). The same is not the case for Ben, however, he's completely entranced.
>>
>>436914
See you later then. Try to post on twitter when you're back.

>>428249
>(King Phil :) "Right. Right. So the recall stone worked? Interesting."
Are we the first ones to think about this? That can't be.
He must have tried an experiment on the stone, or the room is enchanted against teleportation.
