You snap your fingers, an attempt to get Mortia's attention. Despite the warning you received at the door she's crouched by a pool of liquid, in the midst of shifting slowly from blue to purple, and has dipped inside a small glass vial suspended at the end of a set of metal tongs. The sharp crack sounds muffled and distant even to your ear. It's a curious phenomena, the room is absolutely saturated with vys but you would not think that alone sufficient to prevent sound from carrying as normal. Perhaps some manner of enchantment placed upon the room?

Instead you reach out through the connections afforded to you by the brooch, rendered tenuous by your surroundings. You're robbed of the snatches of thought you're usually able to pick up from the link, but are nonetheless able to communicate. {Be careful with that. I'm unsure of what effect liquefied vys might have upon someone should they touch it, but the guard seemed to imply that it was less than desirable.}

{The guard is also a man without magical talent, do you seriously think he's the one we should be taking advice from in regards to what is clearly a potent alchemical ingredient?} Even through the frayed connection you're able to pick up upon notes of curiosity and excitement shading the thoughts of your companion. {I intend to make full use of everything there is to be found in this room, safety be damned.}

She pulls the vial from the pool and carefully plugs it with a cork, slipping it back inside her satchel. She withdraws a second vial and repeats the process, then once it's safely tucked away draws out a thin knife and a much larger glass vial. You watch, along with your assembled companions, as Mortia carefully approaches one of the vents and begins to gently shave off the crystallized vys which has accumulated at the edges of the vent. She collects each piece in turn, and then tucks that too into her satchel.

Finally, she withdraws a large, cone-shaped beaker with a cylindrical neck and grasp it between the same metal tongs she's used to manipulate her various other implements. Carefully, she twist the beaker upside down and holds it out above the vent to gather the bluish-green smoke streaming towards the ceiling. Once filled she quickly caps the beaker and drops it into her satchel with the rest of her supplies, apparently satisfied for now with the samples she's gathered.

{If you're finished exposing yourself to dangerous concentrations of magic,} This time your mind alights upon each of your companions in turn, drawing them all into the conversation. {I'd like to meditate as a group upon the artifact before us, to see if we might gain some manner of insight from it.}

Mortia heaves a silent sight, her head turning towards you. Her mouth moves, but you're unable to hear what it is she's saying. The confusion upon her face once she realizes her voice will not even carry across the six feet or so which separates you is evident, but she's quick to recover. {What you mean to say is that you'd like me to help you meditate upon the heart. I stand to gain little in the way of knowledge from the experience.}

{Says the woman who didn't even realize she could detect the thoughts of others until we dragged her out of that abomination of a realm we found her in.} You get the sense that Darzi is growing annoyed with Mortia, though it's hard to tell due to the Heart's effect upon the brooches. {You stand to learn just as much as we do from this experience. What is this artifact? What does it do? How does it work? The benefit to our understanding of Nature is tangential, so quit whining and get over here.}

Mortia seems suitable cowed, she offers no response as she carefully skirts around the edge of the chamber to stand beside Profectus. He says something to her which draws a slight smile, but you're unable to hear what it is exactly. Regardless you step closer to the enormous multifaceted gem at the center of the room and turn your back towards it, so that you face the door through which you entered and the rest of your companions. They join you at length, forming a sort of rough circle.

You close your eyes, and you require nothing more than to slow your breathing and ease the tension from your frame to slip into a meditative trance. The room around you is a solid mass of white, blinding you with its intensity. Vys floods into your reserves so rapidly that you're forced to channel Metal to prevent potentially harming yourself in some manner. As interesting as those swirling burn scars may be, you'd rather not suffer through their formation.
>Vys Pool: (72/72)

It's always difficult to determine the passage of time from within a trance, but you can say with some confidence that your reserves fill more rapidly than they ever have before. Once confident that your supply of magical power is restored, you allow yourself to slip deeper into your trance. The opaque wall of accumulated vys fades away only to be replaced by a vast collection of glittering lights. The vast majority are arrayed beneath you, the marketplace appearing as various impermanent constellations shifting across a black backdrop.

You focus more specifically upon the souls of your companions, noting that some of the damage wrought upon Profectus' soul has been repaired. When last you examined it in any detail great holes had been eaten through his husk and through the shell bellow. His husk seems to have mostly repaired itself, though it is not the smooth golden orb that it ought to be. There are points where the substance of his memories has been drawn close to the shell, and others where it seems to have ballooned outward.

Turning your attention elsewhere, you make brief note of the guard standing beyond the door. His soul is relatively normal, though a canyon runs across the surface of his husk. Curious, but not really worth investigating at the moment. Instead your mind's eye is drawn to two figures you see on the floor immediately below. You recognize Yama immediately by his silhouette, a golden figure carved out of the background, looming above the second figure, whom you can only assume is Devika.

The first thing you notice about that strange little girl is the shape of her husk. It appears as though separated into two halves, and at the center leaves exposed the girl's shell. Which, you note, is little more than a spiderweb of black stone, so eaten through is it with holes. The shell within glows brighter than any you've encountered before, almost blinding, but despite its brilliance you're able to determine that just like her husk it has separated itself into two halves, each one orbiting the other. There's almost a hypnotic quality to the way they twirl around one another, you can't begin to imagine what it all might mean.

Still, this would seem to answer at least one of your questions about the girl. She is real, she does exist. You were not merely imagining her presence. In some ways that's a relief, and in others it's remarkably worrying. What in the name of all the Gods living and dead happened to this girl?

Curiosity sated for the moment, you sink deeper into your trance. The simulacrum of the night sky is shortly replaced by an endless network of golden threads. Each string composing the fabric of reality runs vertically, each one unerringly straight save where they cross paths with mortals. It's this distortion which forms the mortal mind which renders the market far below a great tangled web, picking out the mind of one individual from another would seem almost impossible in that chaotic mass.

Focusing instead upon those threads passing through the Chamber of the Heart, you note that there are two sets of distorted threads forming your own mind. Both sets bend outwards at first before curving back inwards, growing close to the point at which you think your soul lies before flaring out once more. They remind you almost of the shape of an hour glass. One layer flares out far wider than the other, to the point that the threads nearly intersect with the minds of Profectus and Darzi, seated to your left and right respectively.

Channeling Nature magic, you find you're able to manipulate both layers individually, and indeed each strand individually. You tie your mind to all five of your assembled companions, and then cast your attention towards the artifact. You'd been so distracted that you hadn't noticed the artifact possesses a mind of its own, the threads surrounding the immense, multifaceted artifact twist themselves around the space in which it would lie. Unlike the threads which surround your soul, which remain more or less linear even if they curve outwards or inwards, the threads surrounding the artifact move horizontally. They're the first you've ever seen do so.

You can sense the thoughts of your companions, with your encouragement they to have managed to reach a trance deep enough to perceive the very fabric of reality. You watch as Mortia's mind stretches out towards the artifact, as do those of several of your companions. You do the same, and as your thoughts alight upon the nearest thread you become aware of just how vast this city truly is.

No longer are you confined to your mortal form. You reside within the City itself. Its walls are your body, the veins of magic running through its structure are your veins, and its heart is your heart. For miles in any direction the City spreads its roots, great tendrils which churn through the earth and bind it to the land. They absorb the vys from the air, filtering it towards the City but also dispersing it outwards into the fields. The crops grow strong because the City wishes them to, the jungle is kept in check because the City wills it.

The City had felt alive the very moment you stepped into Tel Lakud, though you now realize that the tower you presently reside in constitutes only a very small part of its overall structure. You can sense ever last man, woman, and child residing within, swarming across its rotten bones like maggots feasting upon the flesh of a corpse. Yet this corpse still possesses a Will, and by the machinations of its creators it is bound to protect these glorified parasites. Far, far below the surface you can feel a presence begin to stir, and become aware of the great confluence of vys sheltered far beneath the city. Yet, it is kept in check by some unknown force. This artifact you thought to be the Heart is merely a leech attached to its soul. Plucking at the strings which compose the artifacts mind reveals to you an image of a creature trapped within a vast cavern. It's a towering monstrosity of stone and metal, the chains which bind it sending great cracks through its flesh. It has no face, but its form is clearly that of a man.

You watch as robed figures gather around the base of the pedestal on which it stands, its enormous limbs struggling against its chains but rendered powerless by the enchantments placed upon them. One among the robed figures steps forward and places a hand upon the great golden altar at the base of the pedestal, and magic surges into the creatures limbs. It's painful, so much so that you think for a moment you may be forced from your trance, but then you feel your consciousness expand. The jungle reveals to you its secrets, each tree whispering of the army upon the march. They speak of vast engines of war, and the underbrush bemoans the trampling of its kin under the feet of one hundred thousand men.

When the memory fades, you sit once more within the Chamber of the Heart. You feel as though on the cusp of a breakthrough, but the substance of what was learned her eludes you. Still the sensation of not only passing through the world, but becoming apart of it lingers. The way the jungle spoke, not with words but sensations, and the vastness of your consciousness in those few seconds of memory, have left an impression.
>Expert Nature Vatis (¾ Insights)

Your companions glance around the room, clearly disoriented by the experience which you all shared. You admit some minor confusion as well. Is the figure you saw in that chamber the source of the great mass of vys you saw beneath the city? Why would it possess the body of man, when your interactions with the Heart would clearly seem to suggest that Tel Lakud is the living corpse of some other, vast creature?

I dunno how a spirit would be able to split her divine shard in half. Merely coming into contact with the divine shard is enough to obliterate any spirit or void entity, so splitting it seems out of the question. I think it's more likely that Devika actually has two people's souls. Perhaps her father or someone else sacrificed themself to keep her soul in reality.

Another idea is that she has two distinct personalities that are both her own but are metaphysically two different people. Recall that when we bound Chryssa's husk to ours there were few connections until we reinforced them. I think that the clear divide between husk halves and shard halves indicates that she is in fact two people and has two souls. I just don't really know how she ended up with the second soul.

You rise to your feet, and your companions follow suit. Having spent what is likely several hours in the presence of the artifact, you're eager to escape the Chamber of the Heart. The sensation of pins and needles dancing along your flesh is enough to make you feel vaguely nauseous, but the discomfort is far worse at your extremities. Your hands and feet are entirely numb save for the jolts of stabbing pain which shoot up your limbs with every slight movement.

Walking proves difficult, but fortunately Fulvia and Mortia remain unaffected by the absolute saturation of vys. They're able to help Profectus, who seems to be taking it the worst out of all of you. Darzi merely grasp you firmly by the arm, supporting herself as best she can while you hobble towards the door. It's with immense relief that you pass into the hallway beyond the vys encrusted doorway, the guard from before standing stiffly at attention while you limp past.

Benches line the hall, and it's only now that you understand why. You rest yourself gently on the stone seat beside Profectus and carefully stretch out your legs. Feeling has already started to return, but try as you might Water magic seems unable to speed the process. Whilst temporarily incapacitated you consider the possibility of simply retiring to your little corner of Mahana's realm, but you made a promise to Devika that you intend to keep. If only because you're curious to find out more about the girl and her condition.

“How long were we in there, out of curiosity?” Your question catches the guard by surprise, and though he relaxes his stiff salute he seems a little confused by the question. “Within the depths of a meditative trance, it becomes difficult to perceive the passage of time.”

The guard scratches his cheek, and the sparse stubble that grows there, before shrugging his shoulders. “I don't know, probably about three or four hours. My shift had just begun when you walked in, and my replacement should be swinging through any minute now. So yeah, four hours.”

“Three hours, fifty three minutes to be precise.” Fulvia chimes in from where she stands beside Profectus. He still looks unhealthily pale, but then again he always does.

After a few more minutes of rest you rise from the bench and set off down the hall. The darkened hallway through which Devika had previously directed you is only just around the bend. You manifest a ball of flame within the nearest lantern, but the moment you cut the flow of vys the flame is extinguished. As Devika said, they're out of oil. That's hardly a problem for you of course, with the barest exertion on your part a ball of light appears hovering above your right shoulder, illuminating the way forward.

Hey Degenerates,
My name is Mikhael, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are weak, untalented, plebs who spend every second of their day doing stupid ass peasant shit and fucking goats. You are everything wrong in the shahdom. Honestly, do any of you even have more than one wife? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun of people because of your own failings, but you all take it to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to paintings of the shah's harem. Don’t be a spirit. Just try to kill me however you can. I’m pretty much immortal. I became a grandmaster of water, and ascended with metal. What are you a grandmaster in, other than “getting cucked by superior vatis samjan”? I also got 2 mistresses always ready for me, and have another horny horned babe drooling over me (She just killed me; Shit was SO cash). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.
Pic Related: It’s me and one of my bitches
>>
The hallway is longer than you'd initially expected, and you end up passing many branching paths on your way. You keep the girl's instructions in mind, room nine hundred forty four at the very end of the hall. That would be more helpful if even half of these doorways still had numbers on them. Most are so rotted they're barely still hanging on their hinges, and some have collapsed entirely.

You peer into one room in particular, its door long ago fallen off its rusted joints. Manifesting a second ball of light, you urge it into the room. They're not exactly what you'd call expansive. It's a single room with two beds, a chest at the foot of each for storage, and a moth-eaten rug stretched across the floor. That's it. You suppose this deep inside Tel Lakud one would have no reason to fear the elements, but where would they cook their food?

Continuing on you shortly arrive at the end of the hall, and as promised there is but a single door with a few faded iron numbers nailed to its surface. Nine hundred forty four. They're rusted beyond belief, but remain hanging. You try the handle but find it won't budge. You try a little harder, and though the rusted metal complains loudly it still won't move an inch. Perhaps it's locked? You try knocking upon the door, and after a few brief moments of silence you hear the sound of a heavy latch being pulled back and the handle screetching.

You expect to see Devika waiting for you on the other side of the door, but instead it's Yama. The glowing eyes of his red mask bore into you, but your previous efforts to reinforce yourself protect you from whatever effect they might have upon your mind. The creature stands there in the doorway, blocking you from entry, until the jangling of bells marks Devika's arrival.

She slips underneath Yama's arm, smiling a gap-toothed smile. “You came!” She lunges forward, grabbing you by the hand and pulling you inside. Her guardian reluctantly slinks away, crouching itself in one corner of the room. You can still feel its eye boring into the back of your head as the girl leads you towards a squat table situated at one end of the room. You note that, though it's still only one room, the room itself is much larger than the one you'd inspected before. A handful of candles provide some dim light to see by. There's one large bed and a much smaller one sitting against the wall to your left, a curtain hanging between them to provide some separation. The table is arrayed next to a sagging bookcase, the thick codices upon its shelves seem to suggest they're mostly about basic magical theory. You were forced to read many of them during your earliest days as an apprentice, though you hardly remember their contents off the top of your head.

(2/3)
>>
Devika forces you to sit upon one of the cushion, and then she eagerly seats herself upon the cushion opposite you. Your companions are left to stand somewhat uncomfortably in the center of the room. There's barely enough room at the table for you and the girl, let alone the rest of your companions. Devika hardly seems to notice them. She's too busy rocking impatiently back and forth, her attention focused solely upon you.

I also agree with getting Ricky to try and communicate with the creature, at least we and Ricky have an understanding an roundabout way of understanding him. He was also able to warn us about those creatures that only we could see in the mines.. So he probably already knows we're in the presence of this thing.

Right, well. Strange as this situation is you may as well get started. “What do you know about magic? It seems like you've done some basic reading, but can you actually cast?”

She nods her head rapidly. “I can heal bruises, and my Mother taught me how to move water. Also I can make the bugs leave me alone.”

So it sounds like some Water and Nature magic, but nothing else. Most people know at least a little water magic, so that's not too unusual. Fire would be its usual pairing in the western reaches of Pidjata, but you suppose it makes sense to favor Nature this close to Elaudia. Although you'd guess that she's only about ten or so years old, twelve at most. That's fairly early for someone to already possess minor aptitude in two schools of magic. “Did you have a tutor, or did you learn by yourself?”

The girl points towards the corner of the room where you know her guardian to reside. “Yama helped me. He's a really good teacher. Plus I had my Father's books and they made it a lot easier to understand.”

“In that case, I think I'll teach you the basics of Metal magic.” You sit up a little straighter, folding your legs underneath you in a meditative pose. “It's a very useful school of magic which has served me well. I'm a Grandmaster in the school, so teaching you the basics should be a fairly simple task.” Glancing around the room, you don't immediately see anything loose and worthless which you could weaken to act as a focus for the meditation. No matter. Reaching into your cloak, you extract one half of the gigantic ruby you've been keeping stored away for some time now.

The girl's eyes go wide at the sight of it, but you simply set it upon the table. Focusing your will, you use Earth magic to weaken the gemstone until cracks begin to carve their way across its surface. Once rendered brittle and weak, you turn your attention once more to Devika. “What I want you to do is mend the cracks in this stone. Focus upon the concept of a force which binds all things together, and reinforcing that concept in relation to the ruby. I will be offering guidance and weakening the ruby as you make progress, to ensure you fully grasp the concept I'm trying to teach.”

The child's face has grown serious now, and she sits in a pose almost mimicking your own. She squeezes her eyes shut, but channeling Nature magic you allow your mind to alight upon her own. The sensation of her mind is like someone digging a finger into the space behind your eyes, and you're momentarily overcome by a splitting headache, but with the liberal application of Metal magic you're able to suppress the sensation. That task accomplished, it requires only gentle urging on your part for Devika to relax. Though it takes several minutes she eventually manages to slip into a trance.

I'm confused, what do you believe I misspelt?
>>

When the JEW posts, I'll get him too anon :^)
>>
Once you feel the frantic chaos of her muddled thoughts subside, you allow yourself to slip into a trance of your own. There's no need for you to slip any deeper into your trance than the level of ambient vys. You've already taken the time to examine her soul. You watch as thin tendrils of vys stretch across the space between the girl and the fractured ruby, poking and prodding at the gemstone but not truly making any progress.

She hasn't quite managed to channel her vys into Metal magic, though she managed to get close on the first try. Not only does it seek to repair the fractures but create them as well. A subtle suggestion from you sees the girl carefully stripping away what few unneeded elements of raw vys clung to her magic, and at long last progress is made.

However, though the cracks are slowly mending themselves, she lacks control over the vys she is expending. Half of it is being channeled into the table rather than the ruby, and a fair portion is simply lost to the ambient vys which surrounds you. You try urging her to be more cautious, but after several minutes with little improvement to show for it you're forced to take direct control of the vys she's channeling. You focus her efforts upon the ruby specifically, but the very moment your control is relaxed her channeled vys scatters once more.

You try again, maintaining your control for much longer than you did the first time around. You're still carefully guiding her vys towards the ruby when you begin to erode the progress she's made, and this inspires her only to redouble her efforts. Fortunately, when you relax your hold over her spell it remains focused solely upon the gemstone, rather than dispersed through its surroundings. Perhaps she merely hadn't been focusing hard enough upon the ruby.

Devika seems to have more or less mastered the most basic aspects of Metal magic, but you force her to keep at it for another hour just to be sure. It's only once you're absolutely confident that she's mastered the art of mending damaged objects that you finally allow her to repair the ruby in full. Your eyes snap open in nearly the same instant that hers do.

The child's excitement is evident upon her face as she snatches up the once again flawless ruby. Well, flawless save for the rough edge marking the point where it was broken in half. She holds it up so that it catches the light of a candle, peering through its suddenly illuminated surface. Her grin proves infectious, and though Devika is a remarkably strange little girl you find yourself pleased to have taught her something about the practice of magic.

Glancing around the room, you ultimately find your companions scattered across the two beds behind you. Darzi, Profectus, Chryssa, and Mortia seem to have occupied themselves playing cards. Fulvia remains standing, situated off to one side of the larger bed relatively close to where Yama remains crouched in his little shadowed alcove. The creature is still staring at you, the dogged determination of an otherworldly guardian. You wonder if Ricky might be able to find some sort of common ground with the beast? “How long was I meditating?”

Fulvia responds with her usual certainty. “Two hours and thirteen minutes. It is just past midnight.”

Your attention turns once more to Devika, your host, and you can't help but wonder just where it is her mother went. It would not take this long to simply buy lantern oil. The girl watches you sadly, the enormous ruby clutched to her chest. “Do you have to leave?”

>Yes, you're afraid so. Your various task call you towards the jungle. Wish her the best of luck in her study of magic.

You consider your options for a time. You could just walk away now, forget that you ever met the girl and put the experience behind you. Maybe you could even giver Devika the other half of the ruby, tell her not to sell it for any less than twenty gold and push for more if she's able. It's the largest gemstone of any sort you've ever seen, she ought to be able to get a good price for it.

On the other hand, can you really just let this opportunity slip through your fingers? This girl has perhaps the most interesting soul you've ever encountered. In all of your experiences tampering with that which allows mortals to influence the world around them, you have never seen someone with a split shard. Everything you know about the structure of the soul would seem to suggest that Devika ought to be dead.

{I think we should take this girl with us.} You can already feel Darzi's thoughts gathering themselves into a response but you're quick to preempt her. {Just hear me out. Everyone saw the structure of her soul, right? Her husk is split straight down the center, exposing her shell and shard to the elements. Not only that, but her shard is likewise split into two separate bodies orbiting one another.}

You pause, but none of your friends interrupt. It seems you at least have their attention. {That's not even taking into account the otherworldly guardian she has looming constantly over her shoulder. I could understand not taking Vicitra into Elaudia, he'd probably die within moments of setting foot in the jungle, but I feel like with Yama watching out for her Devika has a fair chance of surviving. Perhaps a better chance than we do, considering the nature of any interaction between a void entity and a spirit.}

{Your assessment does not take into account the fact that she is upon the cusp of losing her mind entirely, if she has not done so already.} Chryssa's thoughts filter calmly through your own, devoid of emotion. {I'm far more worried about the potential threat she poses to us, than I am regarding her chances of surviving the jungle.}

Darzi would seem to agree, judging by the notes of approval you're able to pick up through the brooch. {I agree with Chryssa. Bringing along a child would only slow us down, and more than that it would be wildly irresponsible. We're not just going on a walk in the woods, we're journeying to the opposite end of one of the most dangerous places in the world on foot.}

{We can't just leave her here though, I mean it's pretty clear her parents have skipped out on her.} You're surprised that out of your companions, it's Profectus who leaps to your defense. {I mean, there was a layer of dust on the sheets of the larger bed. It's pretty clear that her parents haven't slept her for a few weeks at least. She's got a few candles and not much else to her name. We could give her some money, but really what would that help? She'd lived comfortably for a while but eventually she'd run out of money, and it's not like she can work.}

He's approaching the issue from a far more sympathetic angle than you were, but you suppose there's some sense to what he says. You're more interested in her soul than you are in the girl herself, but you admit it would be rather cruel to just leave her here all by herself.

{We don't know her parents have abandoned her.} Darzi seems hesitant, and it's clear the very idea of a parent abandoning their child leaves her ill at ease. {And if her mother really did just run down to the market, then we'd basically be kidnapping the girl.}

Turning your attention once more to Devika, you stretch your hand across the table. She looks down at the ruby and sets it down firmly in your hand. That wasn't precisely what you were going for, but you toss it into your cloak regardless. That done you reach across and rest a hand upon the girl's shoulder. “How long ago did your mother leave to buy lantern oil? Be honest, Devika.”

She pulls her legs up as though she's trying to hide behind them, arms wrapping around her knees. Still, she doesn't try to pull away. “Two months ago.” The confession comes reluctantly, but despite the fact her voice is barely more than a whisper it carries clearly through the otherwise silent room. “Yama has been getting me food and water, so I haven't been too hungry. I'm sure she'll be back soon.”

The outpouring of sadness and anger from Darzi is immediate and pronounced. Still, she doesn't seem entirely enthused about the idea of bringing a little girl into what may well be among the most dangerous places on the planet. {I still don't know if this is a good idea. Couldn't we just leave her with that guard who got us a meeting with the Sheikh? He seems to be doing well for himself, and I'm sure he'd do anything that Mikhael asked of him.}

Fulvia speaks up for the first time, the enormity of her mind enough to momentarily disorient you. {I think the girl would be more useful as an object of study. Dux Mikhael is right, her soul would appear unique based upon my limited understanding of the mortal soul and how it has been described thus far. That being said, we should watch her carefully. Her guardian may well prove hostile to leaving Tel Lakud.}

Mortia seems to have decided against voicing her opinion on the matter, she's merely been watching the proceedings unfold from where she sits upon the edge of the larger bed. Still, even the briefest examination of her thoughts reveals she's sympathetic to the girl's plight. She probably understands what it's like to lose one's mother, and she never knew her father. In fact, Mortia may prove a good mentor for the girl, should she survive Elaudia of course.

Having reached a decision, you turn your attention to Devika once more. “How would like to join me and my friends? We're going into Elaudia. It will be dangerous, and there's no guarantee that you'll survive the journey, but at least you'll have people to talk to other than Yama. Plus, I can teach you more about magic.”

She doesn't respond, merely nodding her head from where it's hidden behind her knees. You rise from your seat upon the cushion, and though Devika seems reluctant she eventually takes your hand and pulls herself to her feet. The bells on her dress jingle as you walk with her towards the door, your companions quickly falling into step behind you. As does Yama. You can feel the girl's guardian at your back, mere inches away from you.

Don't forget having Devika tell Yama to stay with Ricky. That's a key point. We can't be the one to separate them because we don't know what Yama or Devika will do. Devika has to be the one to tell Yama to stay behind.

We also need to impress upon Ricky that he can't eat Yama.

As you pass through the hallway, you once again manifest the little ball of light to light your path. This time it bobs through the air a few feet in front of you, a fact which absolutely delights Devika judging by the way she watches the light dance about. You bring it a little closer, within arms reach, and just as you expected the girl tries to poke the little glowing orb. You have it pull away, and she goes following after it.

Eventually you reach the end of the hallway, and upon emerging once more into the comparatively well lit reaches of Tel Lakud you let the girl finally, at long last, catch the ethereal ball of light. You'd expected her hands to simply pass right through it, and then you could extinguish it and explain the method by which it worked. However, the very moment her fingers brush against the ball's surface the light is extinguished. The vys you'd been using to maintain it is left directionless, and so instead is lost to the ambient vys which suffuses the city.

You've never seen something like that happen, and you have fairly little idea what might have caused it, but you intend to find out. “What did you do just then?” You ask, careful to maintain a gentle tone. “Do you think you could do it again?”

Devika looks at you curiously, but nods her head. You generate another ball of light as you begin to descend the long sloping ramp towards the marketplace far below. This time you hold it steady in front of the young girl walking beside you, and just as before the moment she touches the ball of light it is extinguished.

Unlike before, you'd been channeling Nature magic so as to observe what happened at the point of contact. The ball appeared to your vision as a small concentration of vys, and Devika as a silhouette created by her reserves. When she touched the ball you witnessed a flash of light which was rapidly incorporated into her reserves. It reminded you almost of a Leech spell, but could a girl so young truly master an effect without the assistance of a tutor? Perhaps the phenomena is related to whatever it is that caused your tattoos to writhe across the surface of your skin at her touch.

You walk with your now expanded party through the relatively silent upper reaches of the Tel Lakud, and in the silence your thoughts turn to what exactly you'll do about sleeping arrangements. You only have five fairly small tents in your cloak, which you'd assumed would be enough so long as Darzi was willing to share with you. Of course, Fulvia probably doesn't need a tent since she doesn't actually sleep, so you could give hers to Devika. You could also just have everyone sleep in your tower, but then you're not quite certain what sort of effect Yama might have upon your realm. If he's like Ricky, you'd be running the risk of tearing open a hole in reality.

Which reminds you, Ricky might not be able to truly talk but that doesn't mean he's unable to communicate. With your thoughts directed towards the cloak upon your back, you focus on the image of Yama and try to get across that you're asking a question.

The response is immediate. A sharp, high pitched, ear-splitting shriek the likes of which you haven't heard in quite some time. It's enough to make you stumble, pain throbbing in the back of your skull, but you recover quickly. Metal magic allows you to reduce the force of Ricky's unintelligible screeching, and it's a few seconds later that a semi-corporeal tentacle slides out of the black surface of your cloak bearing coiled within its mass a rolled up piece of parchment.

Plucking the length of treated hide from the cloak, it slowly recedes back into the cloak. Much to the abject horror of a woman you think might be a prostitute, judging by the way she's painted her face and the scant clothes she's wearing. Not that you're one to care what a lowly street walker thinks, that she-wolf probably fucks elves.

Unrolling the parchment, you find inscribed carefully upon its surface in black ink a diagram. At the very top of the list is a mass of tentacles you can only assume represents some manner of spirits. Then beneath that is what you think is a man with horns. An arrow passes between them, leading from the tentacled abomination to the man. Then from the man an arrow leads to an immense worm eating its own tale, the head bringing to mind that entity which invaded what would become apart of Mahana's realm after you fired that husk-charged shot from your pistol.

From the worm creature, an arrow leads to what you find to be a startlingly accurate depiction of Ricky. He was even really careful about the shading on his tentacles. You know, he's really a pretty good artist. Regardless, from Ricky is drawn a line to Yama, and from Yama is drawn a line to... well, nothing. You suppose it's not really important, since you think this handy little chart explains what you needed to know. Yama would be a Progenitor, you believe. At least that's according to Ricky.

That doesn't entirely answer what would happen if you dragged Yama into your realm though. From what you understand, Progenitors are those entities trapped halfway between the void and the mortal coil. They're unable to interact with spirits, but they're also unable to enter the void. You suppose you could always just give it a shot, and be prepared to shunt everyone back to the base reality should things go awry, but that seems a little reckless.

>On second thought, maybe you shouldn't shove Yama into the cloak. If he's a Progenitor, that means he was banished from the void.
>What could possible go wrong? Try to convince Devika to have Yama enter the cloak, it's a better option than potentially damaging your realm.

VERY IMPORTANT.

When we first met Mahana, we let Ricky's tentacles touch him. Mahana specifically said that he thought Ricky was a PROGENITOR as Ricky's tentacles annihilated his being. The implication of that is that a progenitor would have the same effect on Mahana. This means that it is a truly terrible, horrible, awful idea to bring Yama to our spirit realm.

>>415521
>>415528
Additionally we probably don't want to send Yama back to the void unless we can get assurance from Ricky that Yama will be fine there. I vote we ask Ricky if it's ok to send Yama into the void. If we don't get an absolutely positive response we should just have Yama stay in base reality and wait for us to get back. If that means not going to our realm with Devika then so be it.

It has been explained by Soma that Mahana used the word Progenitor indiscriminately for all levels of void creatures. Ricky is an Elder, that's one of those levels.
If Yama is a Progenitor (strict sense), he would be one level below Ricky, then the hierarchy on the parchment would be from highest to lowest: tentacles (whatever is outside of everything) > horned man (God?) > tentacled man (Childr?) > ouroboros (Ancient?) > Ricky/Elder > Yama/Progenitor > nothing (no void beings any more because the next level is spirits)
>>
>>415528

>>

We tried constructing one in Lichtits' realm, but it didn't work. It was unclear if it was merely reality rejecting it, or Mahana intervening before something bad happened.

I think we should only teach the upper level vatis (assuming any join our cult) the artificial nature of the schools of magic, but we should teach them the Shaping Arts

I found a really cool symbol that I think we could use as the symbol of our following. It has roots in Aryan and East Asian culture as a symbol of good fortune, I think it would be a great addition to our friendly little group of devout :)
>>
>>421432
Why? The only reason the five schools were created was to help vatis visualize magic.
>>
>>421434
Oy vey you're literally Hitler for bring such a antisemitic symbol to this quest. ;^)
>>
>>421432
>>421442
we can tell people they are artificial since it has no direct effect on their magical learning.
>>
>>421434
To be honest wouldn't the best cult symbol for us be some mixture of our Abdul-Hakim insignia and something more symbolically tied with all the ancient and otherworldly knowledge we possess?
Considering the circumstances a symbol of good fortune isn't something particularly apt for our cult, nazi irony or no.
>>
I don't think the tendency of vatis to subconsciously strip vys of its aspects until it is aligned with one element is all that uncommonly known to experienced vatis. Besides, it's not even relevant until Mik learns to think outside the elements himself.
>>
our cult should attain and disseminate knowledge with each other and other people, adopt magically talented people as apprentices, and bring back the children of surya through ascension.
>>
Honestly I think the best symbol for our cult would be the runes for contain+soul. It's our tattoo and it has a lot to do with what Mik stands for.
>>
>>421490
I like that idea, but just have it be the soul rune as it is yours to shape. even if you decide to share it as a disciple.
>>
>>421463
>>421490

I think that my symbol is a better fit for what we stand for. We're always striving for self improvement, and this will be reflected in the ideals of our cult. Sometimes we have to rid ourselves of certain undesirable things in order to move forward, just like how we had to erode weak parts of our soul in order to make it stronger and better with metal magic. We were inherently flawed in our soul, but by 'culling' the weakness, we were able to finally solve this problem and attain flourish. We even ascended to become a member of an even more powerful and masterful race. So too must improve our cult in this way, in order to reach greatness.
>>
>>421524

fuck I can't write, should just be "flourish"

>>
>>421859
i definitley do not agree, especially w the swastika. the idea of directly teaching our acolytes any school of magic at this stage is silly, it doesnt matter at all whether they learn shaping arts or not and we definitley do not want to be involved in teaching them, at least at this stage.

i think we should lay out the general philosophy and culture of the cult, teach this way of thinking to people we come across, try and spread it through our adventures, THEN maybe further down the line we open an academy, or do the men in black idea, or tie the two together sorta like a xmen academy thing and deliberately mentor and disciple and educate our acolytes.

for now though a grassroots philosophic cult of personality is best, we definitely shouldnt found any institutions or make our role in the cult too time consuming yet.

also, in general shaping arts is useful to us but who knows if itll be useful or practical for others to learn. lets drop the fixation on teaching people that school of magic, and focus on educating them on the actual spiritual reality, their place within it, and the ethics according to which we think they should conduct their behavior.

i guess a symbol might be alright but nothing too complicated
>>
>>422290
This. All of it, well maybe most of it actually

Only points of contention from me is how far are we going to stretch the laws of etiquette and what not? The more hierarchal our values and teachings, radicalism exponentially increases. Keeping that population as low as possible is the most ideal scenario, there is no way we can eliminate it however.

It fucking pains me to even think that because my core gut feeling is calling me a pussy for not taking risks, but it is wholeheartedly the best option if we keep education, membership conditions, etequite, etc to the lowest level of intensity in enforcement and encourage plurality.

The symbol should be simple and easy to recognize, that swastika design is actually quite good. Still ill keep my vote undecided for this one.
>>

i see what youre saying but i think that teaching people the truth about the gods and their servants, and encouraging people to be venerate them honestly and appropriately will go a long way to appeasing the members of the cosmic bureaucracy that are out to get us.

plus, showing some humility and encouraging others to do so seems like good character development for Mik, and i think we need to give people /some/ rules to follow. knowing how to do whats right is one of the great appeals of religion.

lastly, as long as we dont encourage the achievement of goals by violence and are very clear on our position on service to spirits, i dont think there is any great harm to splinter groups or philosophic schools emerging from Miks cult. Mik can personally maintain cordial and amicable working relationships within them, and since there really is no reason for Mik to e the mindset of "people MUST follow me" i dont think hed mind to much if people choose to do their own thing.

i see his entire cult forming around him based on his wisdom, and his attitude being "you can do your own thing, but if you think im someone worth listening to, i think you should do x and conduct yourself in y manner."

I think we all need to have a serious discussion pertaining to the fact that our gracious quest master known as Soma. He is not the proficient writer we once thought him to be, in all actuality he is a hack and a fraud peddling low quality goods, he is equatable to the snake oil salesmen of yore. We have seen him throw out worthless and petty drama time and time again yet accepted his skill as a writer nonetheless, we suck in his scenes of mindless violence like a starving calf does his mothers teat, we do this even though it is obscenely obvious to even the lowest of the common plebes that violence could be written by a third grader. For far too long have we debased ourselves reveling in simple adrenaline evoking scenes and suffering through mindless drivel between. I say it is high time that we demand of Soma a higher quality quest and that he should be held accountable for his poorly thought out setting and plot lines that are so blatantly come up with on the spot. I personally have spent several weeks deep within the bowels of the beast known as the ircabal and in my times there I have gathered evidence which leads me to believe there is a origin point for all the flaws which our quest master has. I propose that soma is a autisitc pedophile lacking in the common moral fiber that binds upstanding society, I assert this to have been the driving factor in his early leave from home as he had made unwelcome sexual advances upon his underage sister possibly even raping her. The resulting social backlash and banishment from his normal everyday life would be an extreme stress factor to someone with autism, leading to him seeking a way to vent his frustrations in some way. That way is Banished Quest; Banished Quest is an autisitc pedophiles emotional vent enabled and allowed to continue for far too long. I thank you for your time reading all of this my fellow questing individuals and I welcome all constructive criticism.

You decide against shoving Yama into your cloak, lest you violate some form of ancient accord and anger the Gods still further. Of course this means you're still left with the question of what to do with Devika. You could perhaps allow her to sleep by herself in the jungle, trusting her obviously powerful companion to act as her guardian, but that would seem inordinately cruel. Nor do you wish to force your party to sleep beneath the Elaudian canopy if they don't need to, from what you've heard the jungle becomes truly nightmarish come nightfall.

“How do you feel about being separated from Yama?” Your question is met with a confused stare, perhaps understandably so. She has no concept of spirits and their strange generational hierarchy, or the feuds between them. “You see, I have certain allies which have granted me certain privileges. Suffice to say, we could pass very comfortably through Elaudia without once being forced to sleep upon the forest floor. However, in order for us to enjoy this advantage we'd be forced to leave Yama behind.”

You're being a little more careful than usual in your word choice, since you are after all still in public. Much as you might enjoy the idea of founding a movement either religious or philosophical in nature, you'd rather not have yet another horde of commoners begging your attention. “Of course, we would always return to him come morning, but he could not follow us into this realm I speak of without destroying it. His nature is anathema to the level of existence upon which it's built.”

Devika pouts thoughtfully, you doubt she managed to understand all of what you've said but hopefully she understood enough to make an informed decision. By the time the girl has managed to formulate an answer you're passing through the fourth ring of Tel Lakud, an area far more densely populated and by a far richer strata of society than the previous five. “I don't know, I don't remember ever not having Yama there to protect me. I guess if it was only for a little while it would be fine.”

Her pout only intensifies as you affectionately ruffle her hair, though whatever annoyance she felt is soon forgotten. “I'll introduce you to my son, Zahak. I think you and him will get along quite well. He's still practically a newborn, but unlike most children entering their third month he weighs several hundred pounds and can achieve winged flight. I bet he'd be willing to give you a ride on his back if you asked nicely.”

It takes a few seconds for your words to sink in, but it's as you're filtering past a street vendor selling some manner of curious, sweet-smelling drink that Devika's eyes light up. “You mean I'd get to fly?!”

Her exclamation draws more attention than you'd like, you're already an object of significant curiosity considering the horns crowning your head and the number of seemingly random passers-by stepping aside so that your procession may pass unobstructed. “That's correct, but like I said. You'll need to ask him nicely. Don't just run up and climb onto his back.”

She adopts an expression of the utmost sincerity, as though discussing the fate of the Shahdom rather than the possibility of taking a ride on dragonback. “My Mother taught me proper ladylike behavior, I won't disappoint you.”

Satisfied that nothing catastrophic will happen the very instant you drag Devika into your realm, your thoughts turn to other matters. Namely, whether you ought to simply draw everyone together and activate the artifact Mahana gave you or wait until you can find someplace with fewer witnesses. However, before you can reach any sort of conclusion a hand placed upon your shoulder breaks you from your reverie.

Apparently whilst lost in thought you managed to navigate your way through the crowds of Tel Lakud, thick though they are at this hour, to the tower's entrance. Yet the path forward is blocked by a collection of some twenty or thirty people, not quite the crowd you drew when giving your lecture but a significant collection nonetheless. At the head of this little gathering are two figures you're already somewhat familiar with, a red haired young woman likely no older than twenty and a man rapidly going grey in a rather eye catching orange robe.

You feel your hand grow ice cold, your tattoos coiling themselves tighter around the form of the runic array carved into the back of your palm. Perhaps you're merely being paranoid, but you dislike being stopped in the halls by a mob of men and women regardless of their intent. You're forced to relax when almost as one the crowd supplicates themselves before you.

The vast majority of your sudden following remain bowed when the two figures at their head right themselves. It's the man, likely nearing his five hundredth year and clearly some manner of monk, who breaks what was rapidly becoming an awkward silence. “Maharishi, we come to beg your guidance on matters both practical and spiritual, if you would share with us your wisdom.”

The girl cuts in, her tone markedly less deferential. “Mainly we wanted to ask about what you said earlier, and about some other stuff too. There's been some debate about what message ought to be taken from your teachings.”

Air magic isn't a thing you fucking mongoloid.

Flight through a modified manipulation meta would certainly be possible if inordinately costly.

Tbh Enchanting is the most promising route to obtain flight.

Or Shaping Arts to grow some fuck huge dragon wings and the muscles to support them. That and probably meditate atop Zahak while he flies since his flight is magical as well as physical.

Fuck off, air blast is a thing and with the rune for air we can invent a corresponding metamagic easily enough.

im pretty sure that metamagics wouldnt work like that, i think they just affect the casting of a spell. i would support learning all of them, i just doubt theyd help us fly. unless we had a metamagic for some ironman-type thrusters.

but there is nothing wrong with relying on artifacts, literally every single weapon or tool we have is an artifact and they come in handy as fuck.
>>
>>427059
He actually did write three sentences
>>
>>427764
Not really. An amplify meta would probably cover all the uses of the handgonne that isn't about firing bullets. Shit, a fast meta would cover the bullets part, since it'd allow for fast+manipulate+metal.

Obviously I'm not saying to get rid of our artifacts, since they let us do shit without spending vys. But they won't necessarily always be there. We should be able to do lots of stuff without them. And metas are the way to do it.

For example, if the cloak stops working or is taken from us, all our shit would be lost, possibly forever. However, if we cast Mark on our things, we'd know where they are in the void and we'd be able to retrieve them.

Extreemly limited manipulation of air is possible via heat control from very advanced fire magic. That is all. So sure an air burst is possible. Not very much more than that is.

youre just not understanding the system. water magic exists, so does metal and earth but these schools are based on the classical chinese elements, of which air is not a part. its definitley possible to manipulate air with magic, but not in the same way we do earth or water. it cannot be a school of magic, so calling something air magic is a misnomer
>>

water magic is a thing, and it is the term used for a school of magic. that is the way it works in this setting. youd be better off arguing your point by talking about potential ways to fly using magic than stubbornly arguing over phrases you undenicably used incorrectly. youre just wrong, everyone can see it, except for you for some reason
>>
>>427884
The malleability of this settings magic is one of the best parts of it. But Air magic isn't a thing you fucking retarded cock mongling thundercunt. I swear to god this has been said since thread fuck 50 and some of you single celled microorganisms can't seem to get it through your fucking heads.
>>
Using fire and water as a substitute for air in the version of steam is very possible. Just filling a water skin to the brim and using it and the cloud vapor to propel and glide over the desert seems pretty dope to me.

The problem is sustaining that.

Also weakening the husk to create permanency in artifacts to do all the work for us is lame as fuck. It's fine if we use it as temporary supplements, but really not worth it in long term growth. Think of the signs in the witcher series, forming a letter suspended in air with matter and then activating the effects, using manipulate to focus the affects in a direction. Worthless unless we are virtually out of vys, but if we prepare spells in scrolls and then activate them on walls as traps or scanners or any other assortment of goodness, then honestly that is the kind of enchanting we should be looking at right now.
>>
>>428150
Also if air magic on its own isn't a thing, we really could make it up.

>>428169
You can use magic to do things with air. Therefore, it's air magic. If the phrase hurts your anus, well, that's just a bonus.

>>428172

NO WE CANT

its not part of the system that exists, its not one of the 5 base elements that make up the universe in this setting. people have natural affinities to different magical schools and they dont for air magic. it does not exist.

>>428180
the phrasology was put in place by soma. if you dont like it take it up with him.
>>
If you understand anything about this settings magic then direct air manipulation makes zero sense. Mik manipulates things with his vys by either stripping away unnecessary elements and using one of the aspects of the 5 elements (such as erosionwith earth magic, or water control with water magic) to affect the world. Or channeling raw vys into a specific meta or effect that does a specific thing (such as paralyze by changing the nature of the vys to freeze up and hold things still, or manipulate by channeling vys externally and condensing it to the point where it can affect physical objects)

This is basically how ALL of miks magic has ever been cast or described with very few variances.

Now tell me how EXACTLY you want Mik to manipulate Air with this system.
>>
>>428197
It's also word of god that the elemental schools are abstractions and the different divisions are not particularly meaningful from an objective perspective. As a mortal, an objective perspective is not something we possess, of course.

Also, Soma doesn't give a shit if someone figures out how to manipulate air with magic and chooses to call it Air Magic.
>>
>>428172
No we cant.
>>
>>428172
Your stupidity hurts.
>>
>>428206
Air should be an effect like paralysis or vys. It has a rune, after all, so there are strings that correspond to it that can be influenced. We simply need to replicate the vys metamagic but have it apply to air instead of vys.
>>
>>428197
You do realize that the five schools of magic are artificial constructs created by mortals because their minds can't handle thinking outside these schools, right? Since it's been stated repeatedly over the quest, and we've had a discussion about it this very thread?

Everything falls under the purview of magic. You're a retard that doesn't even realize how wrong he is about the mechanics of magic and you're making everyone in the discussion slow down so your inbred ass can keep up. Just remove yourself from this place. For the good of all.

>>428206
Meditate on the rune itself and how it affects the strings that make up reality when you play with it. Then replicate the process with vys. Again, we've had this discussion before.

We know since forever that runes can be used to create metas.

You dumbasses are so misinformed it isn't even funny.

Eeerhm... Now that I think about it, air magic would only accomplish efficient gliding, surfing and mass weather changes. Other than that it's just glorified vys manipulation.

So even if we did make it by means of meditating and experimenting on massive thunderstorms and such, wouldn't really get us anywhere terribly exciting in comparison to enchanting or high level world thread manipulation.
>>
>>428271
thunderstorms wouldnt be air. they would be water and fire
>>
>>428271
Not gonna lie, you probably are right in that it would cost a fuckton of vys to actually fly around without inventing a technique or some kind of contraption.

However, inventing a weight or gravity meta is almost definitely beyond us at this point.
>>
>>428271
All you would even be able to do with it is basically create Suryas Vice in the storm via vys concentrations and static electricity.

But we could do that now. We already can create clouds by fine water manipulation and creating lightning externally with Surya Vice should be possible.

We can already create storms no problem.
>>
>>428281
Air would only control the direction and how long they can be sustained? I know air/gases would have to be good for something, it's the type of matter with the least resistance besides plasma which is really high tier fire magic and its anywhere where space isn't highly packed up by solids or whatnot.

Then again most gases are considered toxic, so fuck since we know poison what the fuck else is there?
>>
>>428295
Gravity might not be to hard but we have more important (and beneficial) things to focus on.
>>
>>428306
We're really close to Avatar state (or whatever you want to call it) which is going to allows us to manipulate plasma.
>>
>>428309
>not realizing the difficulty of grasping the concept of gravity

Wow, you really are completely bereft of imagination.

How does it not occur to you how strong it would allow you to swing a sword, or how hard it would let you fuck up the balance of any opponent? How it would fuck any army up if used with an area of effect spell? What the implications of husk casting gravity magic are?

>>428323
We can already manipulate plasma. So can Profectus and Darzi. It's creating plasma that's hard, not controlling it. Hence the whole enthusiasm about invert+revert+fire enchantments.

Which is yet another thing we've known since forever. Truly, your mental degradation knows no bounds.
>>
Darzi's arm slips somewhat possessively around your own, reminding you of your companions' presence. Glancing over you shoulder you find Profectus passively sipping away at a tall glass of whatever that vendor was selling, the drink within is a dull yellow in color and smells lightly of citrus. Perhaps some manner of lemon drink? Regardless, neither he nor Mortia seem fully aware of what's going on, their grasp of your native tongue is understandably lacking. Fulvia on the other hand watches with keen interest, her monocular eye boring into the man and woman standing before you. The same is true of Chryssa, though she at least has the decency to appear uninterested.

Since nobody seems to mind, you turn your attention once more to the group standing in your path. “I suppose I have some time to answer questions, my business in Elaudia can wait for a few more days, and I rarely sleep to begin with. What would you have of me?”

The girl draws herself up to her full height, which isn't saying much. She's barely six feet tall, if that. Whether it's because she hasn't finished growing or because she's simply short, you can't be certain. “It would seem to me, and to many among the procession, that you do not consider the Gods worthy of worship. They merely perform necessary task for the continuation of the cosmic cycle. Pani, or the entity which we identify as Pani, recycles the divine shards of those who have died in order to ensure the races of mortals do not die out. Surya on the other hand fights off those entities from beyond creation which would see reality destroyed. Both would continue these processes regardless of whether we attended services in their honor, offered sacrifice, or gave some portion of our wages to the temple.”

“However,” The older man cuts in, his tone more forceful than it was upon your first encounter, “is it not true that the temples play a vital role in the organization of our society? Does offering sacrifices to a greater power not teach humility and selflessness? Tithes to the church feed directly back to the Shah's treasury, in turn strengthening the nation in addition to the individual. To forego their practice would not only weaken us morally, but draw the ire of those in power.”

>>
>>428367
>Mention your experience offering prisoners in sacrifice to Surya, and your meeting with his emissary. Sacrifices do seem to play some sort of role in the hierarchy of spirits.
The sacrifices certainly seem to attract the attention of the servants of the gods, but are probably not necessary. Plenty of civilizations carry on just fine without paying homage to the gods, and we're very confident the gods don't intervene directly in Samjan affairs.

I would submit that the wealth one grants to the church should be up to them to give up. If you find yourself in hard times where it would be better to serve yourself, then its important to know that the gods won't care if you don't offer anything up. However, the church also has a lot of value like the old man said. They are places of education and organization that contribute to making society stable. I would say that nobody has a moral duty to support the church, but that doing so is still in their best interests, or at least the best interests of their children, most of the time.

"Sacrifices are important, because members of the divine bureaucracy are of a mind with this man. They feel it shows humility and obeisance. I would not say that i do not consider the gods worthy of worship, they simply do not demand it. in general, giving to the temple is a beneficial practice, one that shoulf d be done when one wants to strengthen their community. sacrifices should be reserved for dedicated and specific ceremonies. they are not appropriately done in gratitude but they do have a place."

We dont fully understand their role, the bureaucracy's role, or our own role, but we should endevour to find out and make our final judgement then. If anything deserves worship then it is the beings that created the world, but it is a matter of how to express that worship is the concern. From prior experience Mik knows that at least the bureaucracy takes notice of sacrifices. How much ceremony you need to perform and whether all of them having an observable effect is unknown. Spirits should not be worshiped, but instead be viewed as a partnership. They may have done things worthy of respect, but nothing so grand as to put them on equal standing with the creators.

Both-ish. Mention that souls offered in sacrifice or those who die in battle go to surya, strengthening him (if almost imperceptibly) everyone else gets reincarnated.

They're not mutually exclusive. Yes, faith is important at this stage of society, but with the imminent resurgence of enchanting and technology that will change quickly.

They also probably take a lot more than they need, even if the particular priests we've encountered haven't been that way. Could be that religious corruption is far less in Slamjam society than in real life. In which case, ignore this.

In addition, there is nothing that stops people from being devout and immoral, or impious yet righteous, which has to have concrete examples in-setting. A person with a strong sense of morality and clarity of mind doesn't require faith as a crutch to tell right from wrong.

You should also mention that unlike spirits, the Gods are innately deserving of gratitude for the service they have provided and continue to provide us, whether in the form of worship or otherwise, and whether done as part of an official church or in private.

Well he's not actually wrong per say. Since our society had morals we don't need faith to ascribe them. The temples do probably take more than they give with all their fancy and superfluous building but they're also power institutions magic in society so they have that benefit.

So faith is more useful in this setting but it could definitely be streamlined.

So it seems like everyone's more or less on board with telling them about our previous experience with sacrifices. Basically, that they do work if they're performed correctly.

As for the rest, the general vibe I'm getting reading these write-ins is:
>We're not entirely sure what role sacrifices, mortals, gods, and spirits play in all this.
>But generally speaking sacrifices and tithes are not of vital necessity.
>If you feel that your local temple is worthy, and if you have the means to do so, you should contribute where you can.

That's not even a thing yet.

But there was the Grand Library. And the other grand library at that other city. Those were great. That's where the money should go. Knowledge is what people should be worshiping. Look at the Rhynians. They nearly wiped out Hiacia, but then got gangbanged because of religion. Look at how their public education system was. Profectus, a medieval-era plebeian who joined the military as early as possible, knows about molecules. And the actual scientists? They created artificial intelligence.

This exactly. University is often used incorrectly in the modern world. An academy refers to a school which teaches certain specialized knowledge. In the case of Plato's akademia, this was philosophy. In the case of the Academy of Anthus, this is magic. A university would be more properly a student union or a teacher's union. It's a trade union essentially.

So let's say you wanted to refer to the school itself. You'd call it the Academy of Anthus. If you wanted to refer to the student body, the teachers, and the administrators of the school as a whole then you would use the term University.

You're thinking of the latin phrase that gave birth to the term university. Its modern meaning specifically refers to the institution. Which I think qualifies as a place rather than a community.

Look, you have a very frail grasp of the setting, and it's painfully obvious to everybody here. If you actually did read the whole thing, well, that implies far worse things about you than what he said.

You also seem to think you're worth arguing with. This is another misconception. You're a pest whose entire purpose in life is to make others feel good about themselves for not being you. So yeah, namecalling was the correct response there.

You delve a hand into your cloak and extract the rolled length of parchment Ricky produced just a few minutes earlier. You unroll the length of animal hide carefully and hold it out so as to properly display the images within. “Before we begin, I feel that it would be wise to clarify what I mean when I say Gods, spirits, and the Cosmic Bureaucracy.”

You gesture to the figure at the top of the list, the mass of tentacles. “I have it on good authority that this is intended to represent the Gods. I am unsure whether or not this is a true to life representation or merely an abstraction, but suffice to say we would not recognize them as possessing mortal form. Let alone the forms which we're familiar with.” You move down to the horned man, the Child. “As you can see, horns appear very early on within the spiritual hierarchy. I have met a Child of the Gods personally, and their appearance matched this illustration to a high degree.”

“The worm eating its own tale is yet another creature which I've had the misfortune to encounter.” The grey-bearded man whom seems to be in the competition for leadership of your little cult holds out his hands, and you gently pass off the scroll to him. “It represents the Ancients, the descendants of children. The entire hierarchy is based upon generations of descent from the Gods. Which, I should note, cannot reproduce as we do. Rather they break off portions of their essence and form it into a new entity which is then shaped by its experiences in life. This is true of all spirits and entities of the void.”

Next you point to Ricky's self portrait. “This image represents not only the ranks of Elders, but also the author of this scroll. I have residing within my cloak and entity which belongs to this hierarchy and which by all appearances exist to serve me in some limited capacity. From the Elders are descended the Progenitors, those entities which rebelled against the Gods themselves and were banished to the mortal realm because of it. Those which remained loyal, or which were born after the events I describe, remain within the void. Believe it or not, we have one in our midst at this very moment. It follows the girl wherever she goes.” You rest a hand upon Devika's shoulders to illustrate.

“The ranks of spirits have a similar hierarchy, which traces from the Progenitors at the top to the ranks of minor spirits which fill the world around us.” The scroll has nearly finished being passed around, and you hold out your hands to retrieve it from the old man once it's finished its circulation. “However, for the purpose of this discussion their ranks are unimportant.”

>>
>>428831
Never trust the words of a kike
>>
With that out of the way, you turn your thoughts to the question itself. “Allow me to preface my actual answer by saying all of this is very uncertain. I do not know with confidence the roles which the Gods play in our universe. I have my suspicions, but they are just that. We ought to seek at every turn to learn more about the Gods and the structure of the reality in which we live. Knowledge is that which I have always striven to accumulate, and that primacy of purpose is what you ought to take away from my teachings.”

“That being said, I've found that sacrifices and tithes are of secondary importance at best.” The girl grins smugly over at the old monk, but you get the sense she'll be less pleased with the rest of what you have to say. “Sacrifices do work for their intended purpose, they serve to attract the attention of the God's servants. In fact, in a ritual sacrifice of two prisoners conducted within my familial seat I noticed looming over the proceedings a skeletal figure containing within the burning passion of Surya. It was an emissary, come to observe and question what demands I had to make of him. Thus I conclude properly conducted rituals do have a place within our society.”

“Note that I said an emissary, and not the God himself. I doubt Surya would concern himself with the affairs of mortals but his underlings do not seem above such matters. However, the emissary which I encountered was neither kind nor helpful. Perhaps that is to be expected from a god typically characterized as wrathful and violent. I have never experienced anything similar with an emissary of Pani, so I can only assume rituals which I've previously witnessed conducted in her honor were either executed incorrectly or intended to effect someone other than the person conducting said ritual. A good use of your time would be combing through ancient records for any mention of ritual practice during the times of our ancestors.”

“Truthfully, that idea is at the heart of my approach to life. So much of our history, of our practices, and of our faith has been lost to the ages. Yet it is there for the taking, lost within labyrinthine collections of ancient scrolls. We should seek to recover, and improve upon, the knowledge of our ancestors. Offer tithes to your local temple if you feel it appropriate to do so, and participate in the ritual sacrifices of our people if you wish. Do not merely do so because you are supposed to. A temple should not be a mere pit into which you throw money and livestock but get nothing in return. Temples should be grand repositories of knowledge, places of learning, and centers for the study of magic in all its various forms. If your local temple does not offer you some tangible benefit in return for the sacrifices you make in its name, then your wealth would be better spent advancing your own station.”

(2/3)
>>
The crowd of thirty has burgeoned outward, curious passers-by come to investigate what it is the horned madmen is babbling about. Those already dedicated to your following watch in respectful silence, their admiration written plain upon their features. Yet the momentary silence is soon broken by the old monk's coarse voice. “I feel you may have already touched upon the answer to this question, but it should be asked nonetheless. What does it mean to live a good life? What should we strive for? Mere knowledge of the past is a fine motivator but if we do not employ that knowledge for the betterment of society, could we be said to have truly changed anything?”

The girl cuts in, markedly less prideful than she was before. “And what would you consider an acceptable sacrifice in the name of knowledge? Are the lives of individuals insignificant where the advancement of the community is concerned?”

>What constitutes a good life? I sure as hell don't know, that is a debate for men who have dedicated their loves in the pursuit of understanding what it means to have life and morals. I'm just in it for the knowledge of our ancestors.
>>
>>429050
We are samjan. Advance society, seek to understand all the world's mysteries both magical and mundane. Master this world and all it has to offer.

But do not be overly unreasonable in its pursuit. Mass sacrifice of the unwilling is both pointless and wasteful. People are best used by reaching their full potential to work alongside each other as no one person or even large group of people will ever be able to accomplish everything. Understanding life's mysteries and bending them to our whims will take the whole of society and thousands of years.
>>
>>429050
Improvement is key to living a good life, both of yourself and the world we live in. A vatis living in a land of squalor is of little worth, just as a kingdom of plenty but full of idiots and weaklings is worth little.

Few sacrifices aren't worth making if they result in something worthwhile, but things rarely turn out how we want, the empire was destroyed because people wanted to bring back a god, a noble if naive goal. The cult of dhatu committed mass suicide trying to talk to their god in a vain effort.
>>
>>429050
>Are the lives of individuals insignificant where the advancement of the community is concerned?”
No.
>>429086
>>429090
Both of those are good answers
>>
>>429050
The gods gave us this world for our own. We should seek to master it. Learn all it has to offer and make it serve us.

Expand society. Peacefully as much as possible but war is sometimes a necessity. Take the gift of the gods and master it in its entirety. Working together to build a society worthy of the gift they gave us.
>>

>>429042

"Community, clan/family, and self. A good life is one which has served to glorify and make greater these three things. I strive for the betterment of my family, the Abdul-Hakim, for the betterment of the shahdom, which would include you folk, and for the betterment of myself, the expansion of my knowledge, and the increase of my power.

An acceptable sacrifice in the name of knowledge is that which hinders it. The lives of individuals are never insignificant to a community, because they are the lives of that community. The sacrifice of a life is only acceptable when it is your own life, when that life is given willingly, or when an individual has forfeited their right to life, through great action against the community, or through outright violence against it.

Yeah, telling them about earth and metal gods cult should be a good warning against fanaticism.
>>
>What does it mean to live a good life?
The core of the cult which everything springs from is self-perfection. This does not mean sacrifice everyone else for personal power as much as mastering whatever you can. By empowering yourself you give yourself more agency and capacity to enact change. This application of change should be used to help others with their own quest for self-improvement. mutual self interest allows people to go beyond what they could do alone and make greater strides in whatever they seek to achieve. This could take the form of spreading knowledge, performing charitable acts, or working together as a group.
>>
>>429130
Also keep in mind guys, power is a universal constant point of contention. Might want to address that, considering spirits will literally Jew their way out of most things to gain larger slivers of power
>>
>>429124
>>429132
its too early to caution them about fanatacism, their trust in us is still growing. we should wait until they do somethin problematic to warn them so we dont kill their motivation. realistically fanatics in our name is not an immediate problem, and may not be as long as we are alive. religions with rational messiahs only are threatens by fanaticism when those messiahs are dead.
>>
>>429050

>>
>>429151
Fair enough
>>
>>429157
This prefferably. As I said earlier power besides knowledge is the overarching law and will of the world we live in. If one indulges and does not seek full comprehension or control of power then they are better off not having that power, though everyone deserves a chance to taste that power as well as life and comprehension of knowledge.

>>
>>429050
All I got on this is this cliched bullshit. If you find knowledge, but lose yourself in the process, then you found that knowledge for nothing.

Oh! Oh! Tell them the tale of that crazy dude who became obsessed with void shit. I think it was Master Karim who told us, but I'm not sure. He grew less and less sane over time, and eventually emerged as a Void Emissary or whatever those guys were called. The guys with the skull heads. And then he was put down by his peers.

Knowledge itself is dangerous and overly abusing it leads to loss of sanity and very rarely even attracts the attention of Servants. But apply it correctly and without using too many crutches and giving away too much of yourself and you gain so many avenues to spread welfare.

Grandmasteries are another decent example; they always cost you some of your sanity. If you feel afraid to go crazy, stop growing in magical power. Limit yourself to masteries and invent techniques instead. Nature weavers, water agriculturists, metal to advance metallurgy, shit like that.

Another thing: When you have something good for many years, you stop gaining that much happiness from it. You take it for granted, or it becomes the absolute minimum for you rather than a bonus. You grow bored. Life stops being good for you. Stagnation like that must be avoided. One must always seek to improve the state of things. For you and your community. I recommend science.

So summarizing a few things from these write-ins:
>Constantly strive for self improvement
>More than that, constantly strive to advance society and community.
>If lives must be sacrificed in the pursuit of knowledge it ought to be one's own life, or the lives of those who have committed crimes worthy of death. However, all possible avenues should be explored so as to avoid any unnecessary death.
>Warn them about the cults of Prthvi and Dhatu and the unnecessary, fruitless sacrifices they made. Emphasize the importance of a personal moral code of conduct.
>More generally, people should seek to master the world in which they live while simultaneously bringing wealth and honor to themselves, their families, and their communities.

You don't even KNOW me, bucko. My enthusiasm in this moment is the standard by which future generations will judge excitement.

Network television companies are already at my house gathering data to use my enthusiasm as metric by which to gauge public interest, and since my enthusiastic output is equal to that of a small nation, they only need me as a variable. No control group, no second round of testing, just me, and my singular interest in this next post.

Your enthusiasm you say is palpable, and mine is palpabless. You are right in this. But while your enthusiasm is merely palpable, mine is TANGIBLE.

My enthusiasm is like an ocean, shifting, churning, eternal. A gull flies away from the ocean of my enthusiasm and finds a well. This well is your so called enthusiasm, but using the same word to describe my yearning and your mere curiosity is a crime against language.

At the bottom of this well is a frog, and that frog is you, and that frog believes that the well he lives in is all that exists, and the wise gull is unable to convince him otherwise.

Motherfucker, this isn't England. We're not in Europe. Because right now you're driving your enthusiasm euphemistic charlatan mobile on the wrong fucking lane.

You would say that the level of enthusiasm you possess currently would form the metric by which all should judge just how motherfucking excited someone could possibly even BE.

But I say FUCK that shit, son, because there's only one system of measurement that matters and it's the imperial standard of hell to the hissyes, and I'm at the epicenter.

To wit, get on my level, senpai.

Sit back down, capitalist. My enthusiastic metric is not only enthusiastically used by your colonizers and betters. It is used by the world. You and your countrymen are some of the few who refuse to bow to reason, and accept that the system centered round my personal excitement is in fact the superior one.

Typical American, loud mouthed and over-arrogant, come back at me when you've overthrown your bourgeois masters deluding you into a state of overconfidence, and yes I'll say it, under-enthusiasm.

The questions they ask strike you as pertaining to those most essential aspects of life. Do they truly intend to live by your words, or at least attempt to? Will you return from the jungles to find a burgeoning movement built up around your image? Will shrines be erected where you've walked, and people speak in hushed tones of your accomplishments? The idea fills you with a powerful sense of pride, though it's tempered by apprehension.

“You ask me what constitutes a good life, and the answer in truth is that I do not know.” You'd hardly consider yourself a role model for those who wish to live a long and prosperous life, you've already died once and you probably will again. “I think to some extent it is up to the individual what purpose they think their efforts in life are best turned towards. That in mind there is some advice I can give which applies more generally.”

A deep breath allows you to gather your thoughts. “First and foremost, I think everyone should strive to make themselves more useful. Everyone should seek at some point in their lives to master a trade of some sort. The practice of improving one's skills and learning new ones should be constant and unceasing. Self-improvement, though it does not necessarily lead to happiness, makes attaining happiness a whole lot easier. If you are the best possible version of yourself, then why should you not feel pride in what you've accomplished?”

“However, one should not seek to improve themselves due solely to vanity.” You feel it important to stress this point, lest you lead these people astray. “As you said, learning merely for the sake of learning changes nothing. You ought to pass on your knowledge to others, and through this improve society as a whole. The same is true of all things. If you are strong, train the weak. If you are knowledgeable, teach the ignorant. Knowledge which is not passed on is lost, and as we can quite clearly see the world is poorer for said loss.”

“I suppose the ultimate goal should be to attain mastery of the world around you, or at the very least some small part of it. That is certainly my goal in life. To master all that I survey through means which I find acceptable. Allow me to emphasize that point, through means which I personally deem suitable. Maintaining a personal code of ethics is vitally important for a man in my position. At any moment I could turn this city to ash and end perhaps destroy the lives of thousands. Should I sacrifice discipline for convenience, I may well destroy all which I have sought to attain. That is not to say that I am a good man, nor even a wise man. I only claim to be principled and stubborn.”

You breathe a weary sigh, reminded for a moment of Vicitra. How much easier your life would have been if you'd merely liquified his heart and been done with the matter. “Returning to the topic of sacrifice for a moment, I think it should be stated that I have burned a man alive on a pyre as an offering to Surya.”
(1/3)
>>
“I cannot in good conscience denounce the practice having seen the results it yields. That being said, if the forfeiture of lives is truly necessary one should first seek out those who have already lost whatever claim they had to life. Prisoners of war would be fitting considering our people's history, and while I cannot outright condemn Aghtaki having once counted myself among their number many of the crimes which earn a brand upon the cheek could merit far worse. Murders, rapist, and wastrels provide society with no tangible benefit.”

“In the absence of someone deserving of a swift and brutal end, the only life one has any right to sacrifice is their own. However, let me emphasize that unnecessary death should be avoided at all cost. The cult of Dhatu sought a meeting with their god and in their vanity many members sacrificed themselves to empower a champion. In doing so they not only failed to accomplish their goal, for their god yet sleeps somewhere within the labyrinthine structure of creation, but also destroyed themselves. The same can be said of those men and women who sought to revive their god Prthvi, yet in doing so destroyed the Empire of Hiacia.”

“Sacrifice is a tool, and a powerful one. It should not be handled lightly nor used liberally.” The crowd has grown, you once more find yourself surrounded on all sides by throngs of people listening attentively to all you have to say. Is it just the horns which draw so much attention? “I suppose if I was forced to summarize my stance regarding what constitutes a good life, I would say that the course which brings the most benefit to all is generally the best. Seek to enrich your nation, your community, your family, and yourself in terms of prosperity, prestige, and power.”

A man from the crowd shouts out over the low din of conversation, he wasn't among your original followers. “What is it you seek in Elaudia, Maharishi?”

A woman shouts out as well, her tone accusatory. “And what gives you the authority of a prophet? What you preach is not wisdom, but the downfall of society! You preach amorality and reckless ambition!”

(2/3)
>>
Her words stir the crowd into a near frenzy, voices raising in both support and protest. To their credit the woman and the old man keep their followers in check, but you seem as though on the cusp of a riot regardless.

however point out that we know the location of Dhatu and we need to complete the gate ritual in order to become a true Child of Surya. These are both radically life changing experiences and we could possibly receive some sort of divine mission resulting from them.
>What does Mikhael seek in the Jungles of Elaudia?
Mikhael has various motives that give reason to explore the jungles. He needs to clear a debt owed by otherworldly beings as there is always equivelent exchange, he wants to find practical knowledge such as the recipe for elaudian steel, but also the esoteric mysteries that grant greater understanding of the world(s) around him. Setting an example of having multiple motives for a single action inately gives different perspectives of the world needed to fully understand it. also gives another way of appealing to different people as they can see what they want to see in mik for good or ill.

I'm only a prophet as far as I have learned about the way things are. I've already said that I don't know the true intentions of the gods themselves, everything I've learned about them is by proxy, either from reading about the past or communicating with the servants of the gods.

SO, in general the themes seem to be
>Calm the crowd
>If you are a prophet, it is merely because you have experienced more of what the world has to offer. You have never sought out the title personally.
>You journey into Elaudia not only in search of knowledge and power, but also to repay a debt and complete a task.

If I've missed something you feel is important, and isn't covered in the following votes, speak up.

Now then, an additional vote:
>Ascend beyond the confines of your mortal frame in the moments before you drag yourself and your companions into your realm.
>Keep it in your pants, there's no need for shock and awe quite that intense. Plus you'd rather not be forced to reappear in the middle of a busy causeway.

The way I sort of imagine it playing out, Mik would Ascend and his body would fall back into his companion's arms. He'd look over the crowd, and then in a flash they'd all vanish without a trace once he channels vys into the necklace still hanging around his soulless body's neck. Of course, he'd be forced to return to that very location come morning when it's time to head deeper into Elaudia, but c'est la vie.

I think I'll also have the old man and the young girl ask Mik one more question before he leaves, so answer this real quick: What would you like them to do throughout the duration of your stay in Elaudia?
>Spread the word of what you've told them far and wide, to as many people as will listen.

That's not a citation. A citation is an actual tangible example.

Here's one that proves you wrong: The dracolich is still fine, the people who fled to the Paramatma in person are fine.

Voidball Mik is also still fine and will continue to be when we ally with him against the Servants.

And now that we aren't killing Vicitra (we voted for it twice, get over it) we don't know if the deal's still on the table anyway.

>we are going to get the cb off our back
one of the items on our agenda is to carry out the hit that the emissary gave us.
>for so many reasons
it hasnt done anything bad to us yet because we promised to carry out acts of penance. staying maligned will turn the cult of surya, pani, and the shahdom against us in a much more violent way than simply forming our own philosophic movement.
>Reasonable
we know theyre reasonable because their servants and representatives came in and were willing to talk about stuff instead just obliterating us right away. so they arent wild assholes.
>rebelling against them
not dying was not rebelling against them, you stupid fuck. refusing to respect the laws of this world after we have been spoken to about them, and refusing to make simple acts of penance would be rebelling against them. if we dont do this right then some high powered servant will come fuck up our shit and Miks life will be a cautionary tale to future generations.

No. We're allying with him if possible. Fuck you. Voidball a best. Go back to sucking Servant cock so I don't have to hear any of the bullshit that comes out of your mouth when it isn't occupied.

>we promised to carry out acts of penance
No. We didn't. We neither agreed and disagreed at first. Then the time to act in penance came. We voted against it. And then we voted against it again.

You really need to get that point above through your thick skull.

>we know theyre reasonable because their servants and representatives came in and were willing to talk about stuff instead just obliterating us right away. so they arent wild assholes.
No, that's them trying to beat us in the jewing game. We live because they're afraid of entering reality, so they want to use us to remove more problems. After which they may go back on their word and ask for more services or have us killed anyway.

>not dying was not rebelling against them
Yes it was. It got us Maligned. He even said we should let ourself die, you moron.

>if we dont do this right then some high powered servant will come fuck up our shit
No, the high-level servants don't enter base reality. They can only manipulate events indirectly, or send their lessers to do things directly.

>>

Not bending over for them, that is.
>>
>>431101
>>431105
Killing this dude for them is not the same thing as bending over for them.

It hurts our credibility as a religious leader to have the gods pissed at us.

We don't care about this dude and Mik doesn't stand to gain anything from allies, anything he wants to achieve he can do himself. Even if he can maybe gain something from this dude, you have made the decision that you want to ally with him before even encountering him, JUST because the emissary asked us to kill him. Which is stupid, petulant, childish, and foolish.
>>
>>431101
It that you'll have to leave the universe. Seriously that's the only option you have left.
>>
>>431125
What makes this even worse is that Mik was one who suggested this not the fucking Emissary. WE USED OUR ONE QUESTION TO ASK FOR A WAY TO GET RID MALIGNED AND NOW THIS LITTLE BITCH IS PUSSYING OUT.
>>
>>430975
> How new are you?

Miks main character trait is "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" for the entire quest. We've never broken that characterization.

So I don't give a fuck about your chickenshit fear of only being kind of overpowered.

It's like you missed all the discussion with Soma about maintaining game balance with the maligned effect.

And instead of wiping out and taking the easy way, we are again going to do our own thing and force a resolution we're happy with instead.

You probably voted to be be a disciple, to use the spice again, and I bet you're a chryssfafg who shit post "GAME OVER MAN" and threatened to leave the quest when when we put on the mask but never did - mores the pity.

Don't care.Being a religious leader is boring as fuck. I'd rather adventure in dangerous places, git gud, and have Soma spurt his lore all over my face. Not waste my time organizing some plebeians.

I want to ally with him because he may know more ways to hide from the gods, more arcane secrets, goals that align with ours, and because he seems like an interesting character I'd like to see more of.

Instead, you want to see what loot he drops. Yeah, I'm the one being childish.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Ok everyone. Why would Mikhael move to his realm at this place?

Doing theatrics and such it perfectly sensible. Moving the others into the realm here is as well. But why would Mik enter the realm here? Just fly away in the ascended state as was the idea in the first place! Or use invisibility and the cloak to leave the city while everyone is dazzled.

Or getting the freaking dragon and fly away riding a dragon!

Any one of these would have been more sensible, in my opinion.

>>

Yeah fuck that guy

No but seriously air magic can totally be a thing but let's be honest. It would be pretty worthless other than making some things more efficient, and even then if we want levitation spells and other shit to make us less resistant to shit we can just make magic that changes the laws of physics.
>>
>>432027
It would let you directly heat or cool air around someone, or choke someone from a distance, or be refined into sound magic, or bring it with you into the void, or a number of other awesome things.

Look, even if you don't want air magic, which I'll never stop calling it, we really should be turning our runes into metas. I mean, contain alone lets you create magic barriers you can use to block and spell with the vys meta or trap a person in place.
>>
>>432088
It's just that you're coming up with more complicated ways to do things. Like just rot a niggas lungs to suffocate him. Or use nature magic for telepathy. Or enchant a suit to carry/refresh air.

Yeah we should be exploring meta magic, and we are. You're just coming up with scrub choices.
>>
>>432127
>Like just rot a niggas lungs to suffocate him.
can be countered by water magic

other than that, continue the autism
>>
>>432088
Yeah all of those can already be accomplished with the elements.

So imma have to call you out on maximum scrub levels.

I remember reading this super fucking autistic post back in 202 I think? This nigger was off his mind but if what he said was possible then I wouldn't mind experimenting with world threads in order to teleport or create op vys blasts of massive magnitudes.
>>
>>432127
>use nature magic for telepathy
That's not the point of sound magic. Obliteration is. Sound is some pretty deadly shit.

You can't rot lungs that are behind enchanted armor. But you can block air from entering it.

Heating and cooling air is not efficient enough to be weaponized effectively at this point. The air meta lets you directly target the air, so that'd be different.

And we already have several suits enchanted with an air supply. The point is not needing them.

But again, air magic is not a must. It's a should.

>>432127
We haven't done shit with metas since forever, and anon wants to read 4-session books instead of getting 2-3 vys and a meta/effect per session, so no, we aren't.

Dude this guy is an Ancient. We already btfo an ancient before for our metal GM and we did it literally 1v1. This guy cannot kill us. And you need to understand things about beurocracy. The next guy in the ladder this falls to after this is gonna see that his predecessor got shanked and bound into a gem by a couple mortals and be like fine. You guys can go do x little task for us as a formality and we'll let you off.

Spirits are more afraid of death than we are. Hell we could turn the Motherfuckers into a battery. Or feed him to Ricky. We got plenty of options.

Not to mention beings of that magnitude are the only thing that can really challenge us at this stage so fighting them is perfect for the power creep scale.

Not to mention it's the most IC thing Mik could do, he don't take shit from anyone since literally the first thread.

Lastly it was what we voted for so you need to finally pull your head from your ass and accept that we're doing it. Or just stay an autistic salt lord the rest of the quest, up to you.
>>
>>433183
Nobody voted to not kill elaudian mik, that vote hasn't happened yet, and we literally know he exists because we were like "pretty please give us a task to get back on your good side." Your speculation is wild and unfounded, and it was mentioned in thread that the emissary was a being of incredible power, almost that of a child, in case you forgot. His character is developing, since thats what happens over the course of a story, and just because your an autistic neckbeard stuck with a 9th grade mentality, that doesn't mean Mik will also forever. He's been seen to be maturing.

You really need to read the threads more carefully, and actually think about the validity of your thoughts before you start arguing for them.
>>
>>433191
>>433183
There is also the middle route that Soma has set out for us. Srsti as a god had her own bureaucracies and hierarchies of servants to enact her will. With her death, and the massive cataclysm that toppled the old Elaudian empire as we knew it, by the forces of Pani, Surya, and Dhatu, as well as the latter going into hibernation, there's a massive power void we can take advantage of. Not to mention, the intense conflict and sectarian violence the boss described. The logical assumption of the instigator's identities being that of the remnant of Dhatu''s and Srsti's cults. The jungle was described being the grave of a god and we know of Dhatu worshippers and holy armor made by the god being present in the jungle.
>>
>>433217
That's an interesting thought, and worth exploring, but it isn't justifiable as a main course of action until we know more.
>>
>>433191
The facts remain. If we didn't kill victra we're 99% not going to kill Elaudia Mik because killing Elaudia Mik doesn't even do anything if we don't kill victra. And since we've already had 2 revotes on whether to kill victra or not soma isn't going to do another one. Which means we'll never get rid of the maligned trait with this task he gave us.

Git rekt kid.

And no it was not being described as of similar power to a child it was described as attempting to imitate a child. Just means he's a little bitch wannabe.
>>
>>433266
Vicitra was an innocent, this fuck isnt. Forreal, read the threads, thats why we didn't kill him.
>>
>>433266
There can be only ONE!
>>
>>433270
How is Elaudia Mik not innocent? Cause some fucking servant said so? Fuck them we don't trust them for shit. Plus how does refusing to die make you not innocent? Some bullshit right there.

And we didn't kill victra mainly because we disliked being extorted some cut in the cosmic beurocracy. The innocent part is second.
>>
Fuck that servant, fuck you, and fuck anyone who thinks they can extort Mik with threats.

Shit all he's saying is he's gonna try and kill us, shit's nothing new we've been in fear of death pretty much the whole quest. This guy ain't shit.

>>433272

>>
>>433290
>>433303
>>433321
Be less of an edgelord, please. It wasn't extortion and the Emissary is benevolent, we were just fucking around with the fundamental forces of the universes. Rick (from Rick n Morty) is cool and funny but we are not gonna play Mik like he's the same character.

>>
>>433348
Also. The universe was created by the gods for the mortals so fucking around with the fundamental forces of the universe is our right. The servants should be bending over backwards to see to our wishes.
>>
>>433355
Read the thread, I've told you like three times now you have to actually pay attention. It was friendly, compassionate, benevolent, and understanding. The reason we are here right now is because it allowed us to live after we promised to carry out a hit for it. We already reneged with Vicitra, don't be a retard and push it's goodwill further.

I know you have nothing actually valuable to say or contribute, but I'd like to see some actual thought put into the crap you shart onto your keyboard

Yeah, you read the thread, you illiterate mongoloid. Mik explicitly said he didn't give two shits about the morality about the situation, and that he did it out of defiance.

>>433361
>It was friendly, compassionate, benevolent, and understanding
The Servants have been stated to not even have proper emotions. That aura of feelings is a tool it uses to gain the countless mortal slaves we saw around it, you uncomprehending shithead.

Seriously, every word that comes out of your mouth makes you look even more retarded.
>>
>>434122
You must be legitimately autistic. I mean it.

1) More than one factor can influence someones decision. The two factors that affected Miks decision was his guilt over killing Vicitra, and his disinclination to following orders. He felt guilt because he was responsible for Vicitra, and if you put him in a similar situation with different factors, like a isolated weirdo he has no personal responsibility for, that is an entirely different decision and logical thought process he would have to go through. He at NO point said he didn't care about the morality of the situation, he explicitly mentioned that the thought of killing Vicitra in cold blood made him uncomfortable. If he truly did not care about the morality he would have just fucking killed Vicitra and been done with it just to get the CB of his back.

2) Friendliness, compassion, benevolence, and understanding are not emotions, you autist. They are dispositions and character attributes. You can feel any one of these things, at certain times, but as you said it is unlikely that we just happened to catch the spirit in a good mood. It treated us in a friendly, compassionate, benevolent, and understanding way, so other than the personal prejudices typical of neck-bearded fedora-wearing autistic edgelords like yourself, there is literally no reason to be anything but grateful and respectful of the emissary for the way in which it has been dealing with us.

Now, either come back and respond when you have 1) actually READ the posts in question 2) taken the time to actually COMPREHEND what it is you're reading, instead of jizzing your wishful thinking all over your interpretation of it, and 3) gotten some foggy idea about how people think, act, and treat each other. Start by learning what an actual feeling is, rainman.
>>
Post literally never ever
>>
>>434208
>The two factors that affected Miks decision was his guilt over killing Vicitra, and his disinclination to following orders
Nice backpedaling there. Thanks for agreeing with me, idiot.

Also, you seem to completely not understand the fact that if an unfeeling being is pretending to be friendly to you, it does so with a purpose, to get something from you. Not because it will continue to be friendly when you give it to him.

You're seriously defending a being that told us to kill ourselves, become its sex slave, or murder two other people because... it said so in a polite manner?

While it was threatening us and showing off all the people it mindraped bunched up against its knees?

After the Paramatma confirmed it was being deceitful to us?

After the countless occasions we've seen Servants being incompassionate, disgusted by everything about the mortal realm, and prone to murder?

For the dire crime of saving two lives?

There isn't even a word for how much in denial you are, kiddo.

>...in a polite manner
Yeah, and cause of the fact it gave us an actual fucking CHOICE and listened to us when we asked for a way to redeem ourself.

>...threatening
It wasn't threatening us, that's just the way it rolls man. It's not like Mike is threatening everyone everywhere he goes by showing up with his company.

>After the countless occasions we've seen Servants being incompassionate, disgusted by everything about the mortal realm, and prone to murder?
What the fuck are you even referencing? This literally never happened. Servants have always been found to be reasonable and not the megalomaniac assholes you like to pretend they are. Even the one in the void had a messenger warn Mik he was coming and that he had to leave, a messenger that must have been constantly traveling ahead of it just on the offhand chance some guy like Mik wanders into the void.

Calling me an idiot doesn;t magically make you not one, you still are. I know your brain doesn't work right but if you can't think rationally just shut up and listen to people smarter than you.

I'm tired of arguing with you. You are stupidd, you are wring at every turn, you are autistic, you are annoying, but worst of all you are tired, cliche, and boring.

Because it's not that powerful

Mik is pretty stronk. Not to mention it won't come into our reality. And it doesn't operate that way. Plus a laundry list of other reasons.
>>
You know, this whole CB deal reminds me of two things. One: The rankings of the spirits, like the rankings of the Servants, signifies generations but not necessarily power. Our Mahana is probably stronger than your average Mahana. So what says the same isn't true of Servants?

Sure, we made an Ancient like the Voidipede our bitch while ascended, but then met the Emissary who feels powerful enough to scare Mik and seems to have gained Disciples on top of its base power.

Two: Insanity makes mortals be more like void beings, and void beings fear "mortal corruption" like we fear insanity. Could it be that sanity leaks from mortals to Servants like insanity leaks from the void to mortals?

Think about what that means for Best Girl. He has displayed emotion towards us, at least once by drawing a heart after we gave him goats. And he is at all times linked to Mik's mind. Could Ricky have actual emotions by now?

How long has Yama been around? It's more than a few months. I actually thought it'd be okay to do whatever to Yama because it's emotionless, but that may not be the case.

And a final thought: Does anyone want to try giving Yama a sanity ring? We know they can wear artifacts, though they absorb it into their bodies when they do, as shown by Ricky when we offered him the brooch. But since Mik was shown going insane afterwards, the brooch worked. So the ring probably would too.

Although that involves enchanting, so my hopes are pretty low.
>>
We got jewed yet again
>>
>>435493
You raise excellent points. I'd support your experiments once we have the resources to create more Sanity restoring artifacts. We've only the one, and even copy pasting artifacts requires finalization on the copied artifact, which in turn requires complete knowledge of the rune.
>>
>>435500
The runes on the sanity ring are visible, but too small to read.

Guess who has a table with like a bajillion magnifiers by now?
>>
>>435296
Looks good, please don't abandon it.
>>
>>435493
>feels powerful enough to scare Mik
See that's just wrong
>>
>>435507
Yea. But I would imagine complete understanding to be a difficult thing. Might take us a couple tries to get down.
>>
>>435529
It made Mik want to prostrate himself before it, and only by fortifying his mind did he manage to merely bow a little. And that wasn't even a real encounter, it was in a dream.

Unless dreams take place in one of the 216? layers of existence you can physically enter and that actually was a more personal encounter than we thought.

>>435534
Yeah, you have to meditate on a rune and succeed to add it to the library. It's why we can't use the move/transport/whatever rune we read a while back. Because anon is too lazy to learn it properly and then make teleportation artifacts or even an effect from it.

But we're going to the realm like right now, with all the enchanting and meditation aids you can imagine.

Come on, anons. Don't be short-sighted this time. Just for one vote, despite yourselves. Please? Pretty please?

Don't worry, I'm far too autistic to drop something once I've gotten myself all set up.
I'm not proofreading/editing beyond line breaks and font styles, though. All fuckups will be faithfully represented and archived for posterity. Soma can get his own goddamn editor.

Incidentally, here it is with thread 2.
How should I handle images? I haven't quite decided on the style for that. So far I've mostly been centering them with text above or below, but to fit everything neatly on some pages I've been putting them in the corner. Does that look too messy?
I've also decided to drop actual roll results and just include the degree of success plus vys use. It's annoying to enter and generally doesn't matter anyway (I'll make a special note of the triple nat 1 when I get to it though, don't worry).

Additionally, is the not!greentext too hard to read against the background?

I might add an appendix at the end with Soma's comments and OOC setting info dumps and link them back as footnotes or something. For now I'm focusing on the meat of things.

>>436499
To be honest with you I kind of agree, but I wanted to do something with it to break up the undifferentiated blocks of text that otherwise form. I'll keep fiddling with it.

For that particular vote, I decided not to put anything in since the next paragraph explained it pretty clearly. I'm going to include little summaries of write-in options where they're important or differ significantly from the presented choices. It's way too much effort to include them all the time, though.
In any case, in the early threads Soma was kind of more granular about choices presented, so there weren't a whole lot of write-ins with substance.

The writing is actually beautiful, and the pacing is about average in-quest. The only "putting up with" part here is:

A) too little free time to actually perform even 10% of the cool shit we came up with by obsessively over-analyzing the lore

B) it takes 3 hours for an update to happen

C) it takes 3 missed deadlines for a thread to happen

The "abuse" part is a meme. He lies to us and to himself by pretending he actually likes this, because he's too unwilling or too incompetent to do something about it.

Hey now, I love Banished Quest. Only problem is whenever I'm out of class I don't really have a set schedule anymore. The days blend together, time loses all meaning, et cetera. Hard to be productive when you wake up at two in the afternoon and spend most of any individual day running about town.

Why not just make an empty perfect waifu body in our realm and then shove their soul into it? Then we don't have to bother with this supposedly insanely difficult shaping arts stuff. The downside is that they'd go back to normal if we used water healing on them, but we can just keep them chained up in our dungeon so that they never get injured
>>
>>442535
That's not a sustainable solution. The amount of maintenance necessary to keep powerful vatis or dragons in loli bodies without changing their self-image is too high. With shaping arts we'll simply arrive at the high skill level at some point and be able to lolify anyone at any time.

As the shouting reaches a crescendo your patience wears thin. You won't be responsible for a riot, especially not after the Sheikh treated you so kindly. Thus you draw forth the manifestation of your Will and allow it to suffuse your surroundings. It is with a careful hand that you guide your vys around the forms of your companions and those of your followers who have remained silent throughout the exchange, thus sparring them your ire. When at last your preparations are complete, you require nothing more than a gesture to silence the crowd. Mist streams from their yapping mouths, forming itself into a ball of water hovering some ten feet off the ground.
>Vys Pool:(71/72)

That too dissipates, and those members of the crowd you saw fit to punish soon find themselves too busy hacking up phlegm and gasping for air to howl and shriek about their inconsequential opinions. Satisfied with the results of your little display, you allow your victims a few moments to recover before raising your voice above the low din of conversation. “To answer your question, I journey into Elaudia for several reasons. Of course I seek knowledge, and by extension I seek power, but the true driving force behind my expedition is a debt. Rather, several debts which I can only hope to repay by traveling the length and breadth of the jungle.”

“And as to your other question, I do not claim the title of prophet.” The woman who accused you of preaching the downfall of society has shouldered her way to the forefront of the crowd, and though she stares defiant you can sense the coils of fear constricting her thoughts. She's terrified of you, as she should be. “If people wish to name me Maharishi and live their lives according to whatever ramshackle philosophy I've constructed, it is entirely their decision to do so. I didn't seek out recognition, merely explained what little knowledge of the world, its structure, and its history which I've accumulated over the course of my travels.”

You try to take a step, but find Devika has coiled herself up inside your cloak. It seems she's rather uncomfortable with the crowd's attention, and you can't really blame her. For a time it seemed as though this little impromptu gathering would grow violent. You gently urge her out of her hiding place, a hand rested on her back guiding her forward as you step towards the old man and the young woman who seem to have established themselves as the leaders of your would-be cult. They step aside to allow you passage, and their followers do the same.

However, the old man's voice draws your attention. “In your absence, what would you have us do Maharishi? I served as an Earth Vatis for many years before swearing myself to the local temple, and given time I could erect a truly grand house of wisdom to pass on your teachings to others.”

“Or perhaps our time and effort would be better spent building homes and aiding the poor.” The young woman pointedly interjects, her tone likely harsher than she'd intended. “Would we not better attract new followers if we were seen to be an active, and more importantly positive force in their community? The sick and downtrodden are always those most willing to accept a new faith, in the hope of improving their station.”

You're growing rather tired of this constant bickering, and frankly you're tired of being surrounded by so many people. “Do both, this isn't complicated.”

The old man raises an eyebrow, his voice betraying his confusion. “What do you mean, do both? We have not the resources to both construct-”

Whatever protest he offers dies upon his lips when you cast a sharp glare in his direction. “Find a stretch of land in the poorest part of the city, where no self-respecting man, woman, or child would dare set foot. On that spot erect a grand temple dedicated to my perceived teachings, but I do not mean a temple in the traditional sense. It shall serve as a hostel, where the homeless might find temporary shelter. A school, where any may come to learn not only literacy and the basics of arithmetic but magic as well. A house of healing, where the sick can have their ailments tended to free of charge. Perhaps most importantly, it should serve as a library. A place where knowledge is carefully recorded and stored for future generations.”

“If you truly intend to found a new faith based upon my philosophy, then every aspect of its temples should be rooted in solving the practical problems faced throughout one's everyday life. People will pour through the doors to take advantage of the services offered, and in doing so you might introduce them to the concepts which I have elaborated upon here. You may freely accept donations of course, but never should tithes become required for access to the temple's facilities.” You pause a few moments, briefly considering whether or not there's anything else you ought to tell the man. “I've established good relations with the Sheikh, ask for Heliodoro is you've any request to make of the man.”

Your piece said you stride forward, and at long last break from the crowd into the rank, humid air of the swamp. The smell of rot seems to pervade this place, how they managed to prevent it from seeping into Tel Lakud proper, you're unsure. Unfortunately your escape is not a clean one. Still the crowds of curious onlookers follow you across the narrow wooden walkways of the city's outskirts.

You tolerate their presence for a time, and gradually they dwindle until only those most dedicated of your followers remain. However, you stand now perhaps a mile distant from the tower of Tel Lakud, and the buildings have grown sparse. Soon you'll merely be treading through worn dirt paths raised from the waterlogged soil, and you cannot have these people following you all the way into the jungle.

{When I collapse, catch my body.} Your thoughts are cast across the channels generated by your brooch, your mind glancing across those of your companions. {Make sure everyone has linked hands, and that someone is holding onto Devika.}

Darzi at least seems to have an idea of what you intend, though you doubt she realizes the full significance of it. Her arm slips out of your own, instead wrapping around your waist. Profectus braces a hand between your shoulder blades. Channeling the husk of your soul, that curious substance formed from memory, isn't nearly so difficult as it once was. Power floods through your limbs as it pours into your shell, reinforcing that glorious silver sphere with its golden radiance.
>Vys Pool: (62/[62])

This is the first time you've sought to Ascend when not faced with immediately catastrophic circumstances. It's a strange sensation, slipping free of your mortal coil as easily as one might free themselves from their robes. White marks burn across your ebony flesh, your golden tattoos twisting themselves wildly across your arms. You note passively they've expanded once more, but only very slightly. They've spread across your shoulders like great veins, but have curled in upon themselves. Innately, you realize they've reached the extent of their expansion.

Twisting yourself around, you belatedly realize that you're floating some four or five feet in the air. You didn't even feel yourself drifting slowly upwards, it just felt natural to do so. Staring down at your own body, cradled within the arms of your friends and appearing to all the world a corpse, is a surreal experience to put it mildly. Darzi stares at you in wide-eyed shock, her mouth agape. Profectus, much to your surprise, has actually kept his wits about him. Yet even the merest glance at the contents of his thoughts reveals the panic coursing through every ounce of his being.

Chryssa remains stoic, as she always does, though her comparative lack of reaction may simply be due to the fact she's seen this before. The awe is still there, pouring from her in waves, but it's well concealed behind a mask of indifference. Fulvia remains similarly inscrutable, though you can feel her alien mind contorting itself into knots trying to comprehend what it is she's witnessing. However, the reactions you find most curious are those of Devika and Mortia. From the former, there is an overwhelming sense of familiarity, and of comfort. From the latter, you can feel only the all pervading sting of envy.

(3/4)
>>
Your attention shifts to the crowd of some two dozen men and women which has followed you this far, the old man and his much younger counterpart among their number. You try to speak, and though your mouth moves no sound is uttered. {I've passed down my commands, and accompanying me was not among them.} The entire assembly flinches in unison, the weight of your presence driving them back. {Go back to the city. Carry out my will. Upon the occasion of my return, I expect to find the state of the city much improved by your efforts.}
>Vys Pool: (52/[52])

The marshland surrounding Tel Lakud vanishes the same instant you channel vys into the necklace draped around the neck of your physical form. Instead you look out over an endless expanse of water, the entire world laid bare before you on its most intimate level. You could shape this place according to any, and indeed every, wild flight of fancy you've ever entertained. Instead you slowly lower yourself towards your unconscious form, and it's with lingering regret that you feel the onrush of your mortal senses.

What's that you say?

We should put Mama Dragon's soul in the body of a 12-year-old elf and poke at her shell until her self-image becomes one with whatever meek abomination of a body results from the union?

And we do this by copying the enchantments on Chryssa's bow and skull for their spell-nullifying, soul-stealing qualities?

Why yes, anon, I think that is a good idea. However did you come up with it?

The water equivalent of Marsala Ve probably involves perceiving and/or manipulating the water in one's own body, or that in your opponent's, to do impossible monk shit like in those Nepali tapestry weaves like flinging people across the room with open palm strikes.

And then there's the straightforward techniques like steam blasts, point offense and surf magic.

Not to mention all the potential husk-cast water magic possibilities. Flash-freezing, supercooling, I dunno what.

Anyway, you enjoy us never, ever, EVER doing any of that because we're reading the book we told Prof we'd read because that way lies double ascension GM and also we promised him. And then we'll probably start messing with Shaping Arts or start duplicating sanity rings.

What if we made a point offense with liquid metal charged with lightning? It would be a cool tech using 4 elements.

You're really overselling anon's patience here.

How many eons until Soma stops being an autistic pedophile?

I'm a little salty about not ascending in the middle of the city.
>>

We'll have to do it again when we come back. Or at least once per every major city we come across.

That's the least it will take to make up for it.

5$ says that the creation of Elaudian Steel somehow involves hybrid Water/Metal magic. The permanency effect is probably involved as well
>>
Last for Soma is an autistic pedophile who should be deported
>>

Wasn't permanency applicable to all forms of magic back when it was introduced? GM-tier reinforcement, healing and mind-reading and all?

Yes. We've only really used it for enchanting so far though, but it has much broader uses.
