Welcome to bulgar's fantasy civ quest - a game of epic scale and great player involvement, thanks to our faction system. You can play as an anon like in a normal civ game or create a faction within our Kingdom, Roggar.
Here's the basic game rules:
http://pastebin.com/etm1V11S
Feel free to ask any questions and to participate in the story!
An overview of the story(From our point of view) so far:
Almost two centuries ago, the copper-age mortal civilizations across the world lost all connection to the Old Gods of the Elements during the Great Storm. The shamans lost their source of mana and could no longer cast their spells. Our civilization developed along the estuary of the Longfork river - initially a tribe of human farmers, we grew in size and territory and welcomed goblins and demons into our Kingdom. We've fought time and again against the tyrannical dragons. We've come into contact with other human and non-human civilizations and most of our population has adopted the faith of the New Gods of the Pantheon.
Most recently, an alliance of humans, goblins, demons, halflings, centaurs and ogres (the last two having long been enemies of ours) stood together and faced the great Orcish Horde and the dragons that led it in the fields of Vahkrin. The Alliance claimed victory in this massive battle and the orcs were driven out of our lands.
Most recently, our Kingdom underwent some administrative reforms and we saw our neighbours, the Kulargi, becoming vassals of the mighty Paitran Kingdom, the strongest human nation.
We are at a level of technological advancement roughly equal to the 2nd-3rd century BC Greece.
It is the year 186 After the Storm

Why do you have two titles? Well, there's no rules against it really, but I didn't actually think about it lol.
So, Food production - pick one route, aside from providing a food boost each has another advantage
A.Use Pantheon magic and knowledge to boost our food production - maximum effect + more magicians
B.Focus on developing our farmlands on our own - self sufficiency
C.Focus on developing our fishing fleets - we'll also get more potential recruits for our fleets this way
D.Focus on developing our hunters - will provide us with a larger amount of archers as well
E.Focus on developing our herds - will provide non-Pantheon worshippers with animals to use for sacrifice for magic and potions

When you roll to back up another post, I don't just add them up together on the scale of 0 to 100.
Every additional roll raises the maximum by 50, so if the first roll is 10 and the second is 90 the end result is 100/150.
In this case, we've got 71/200 - you haven't achieved a lot in your recent efforts in expanding Nayte.

Golem are a danger for all of us, if Paitras get a hold on them while we send them to war they'll reverse engineer it and fuck us into Oblivion.
The very act of researching such thing jeopadize all of our people and the very governement of our nation.
Golem can be our doom and that is why we should focus on more useful and practical research.

And steel can easily be mass produced. At any blacksmith available. Golems aren't something you can teach anyone. Since you NEED magic for it. F it is
Engineering is the practical application of mathematics and physics. Having spent resources and effort in the past on developing academies that study the natural sciences, over time we've seen our construction techniques improve as we are now able to build stronger walls, bridges, houses. Recently engineers in Paitras have started constructing a new kind of water supply system - aqueducts. We were able to catch up to them in that regard soon afterwards, as our own independent research has produced good results.

>>
>>420345
So you're telling me, you believe the creation of a working golem. Which we know the know of but we exceeded their knowledge of is easier to create than steel?
To a country that is clearly much larger, so more people dedicated to this. More blacksmiths dedicated to this as well. And you are assuming they don't already have advanced steelworks.
But hey, that seems likely that the much bigger country is less technologically advanced. That is also heavily blessed by the same gods.

The ogres of the east have grown rapidly in population in recent years, living in peace with their neighbours, including us. Now they've made their move - a large warband has attacked and occupied the mining town Hist and its gold mines. The fate of the locals is unknown to us at present.

Bigchief Kurgmul is a strong, yet cunning ogre, a great fighter who led the ogre troops in the Battle of Vahkrin fields.
From his Hall, the center of the only place in ogre lands that one could call a "Town", he only loosely commands the various ogre clans.
Our diplomats met with him and started with their usual talk, but were cut short.
"Just the important things. Small talk is for small men." the Bigchief said
We explained the situation to him, that an ogre warband had attacked a town of ours
"Yes, that's my cousin, Kugdrul. I didn't give him the order, but I haven't forbidden him to do it either. His actions, his consequences."
"If you want to fight him, fight him. As long as you don't attack our villages. His warriors, outside of our territory, are fair game to you."

We've assembled most of our standing troops - 1800 hoplites, 1200 goblin skirmishers, 1000 archers, 100 demons(who'll be fighting as mages or in the reserve, as they are hard to replace) and another 2000 human soldiers.
Hist is located in the marshlands and the terrain is unsuited to heavy machines of war and cavalry. Its population is mostly human and goblin miners - we don't know if they're safe, we have other things to worry about now - Kugdrul's warband.

The ogres had some traps ready and their leader himself is a huge brute, standing 8 feet tall and with bulging muscles. Swinging his axe, he cleaves through his enemies with ease. His warriors, suspiciously reddish in their coloring, are emboldened and fight with great bloodlust.
We've somehow lost our advantage and the fight is looking like it might drag out as our headlong charge was stopped and we have to reform our lines and utilize our superior numbers for the best advantage.

Our forces have claimed victory after several hours of heavy fighting. Half the ogres were killed, while the rest have surrendered or been caught, including their leader.
Our own casualties amount to 450 humans and 250 goblins.
Now that the fighting's over, our mages were able to take a look at these ogres and our suspicions were found to be true - these ogres have all consumed demonsblood, which has made them stronger and more capable in magic. One of the captured ogre magi was particulary troublesome during the fighting, his Flame spells having killed many of our men.
Still, none of our demons have had any contact with them, so they must have gotten that from elsewhere.
What should we do with the captives?
A.Kill them
B.Put them to work in the mines
C.Make them slaves and sell them to the highest bidders to do as they please
D.Try to make them fight for us
E.Give them over to Nayte for sacrifices, experiments and potions

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little demon? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Iron Legion, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Ogres, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top Shaman in the entire Roggar armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Planet, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over a Raven's letter? Think again, demon. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across Roggar and your Raven is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, demon. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Iron Hall Legion arsenal and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little demon. If only you could have known what holy retribution your little “clever” sacrifice was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking soul. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, demon.

These ogres were made an example of. Their deaths were slow and painful and their heads were put on spikes throughout the swamp as a warning to any future intruders.
It seems they'd eaten roughly a third the people of Hist while they were there, but the town is now back in our hands again.

With our population and resources, it is impossible to build a wall to cover our entire border with Paitras, so what we've focused on is building watchtowers, setting up patrols and fortifying towns and villages
Construction is still ongoing in various locations.
Time is passing by, so consider how old your leaders are getting. Medicine isn't much around here, rare to see a man live over 44.

I was drawing the map, the first two rolls are it.
We've mapped a bit more of the North. From the locals we've learned that it is a truly vast land, the southernmost coastlands are more bearable and suitable for farming, but if you go further north you will reach the cold forests, then the mountains and beyond that the tundra in which the giants dwell. The norsemen humans mostly stick to the coasts, they build strong boats. King Knurig has been living for a really long time for some reason, but he's beloved by his people and his Kingdom has been held together and has grown richer.
The news from the south are not so good. The initial pioneers we sent towards Izkoz were all slaughtered. It seems the orcs have taken residence in these fertile lands and in these past years they've been recovering from their losses and growing in strength. They've had occasional skirmishes with the centaurs of the south, but have otherwise been avoiding conflict.

The centaurs of the south and the orcs faced off in the open fields near Heraclea. The centaurs, led by a chieftain named Konujin, returned home as great victors, dealing a significant blow to the orcs despite being outnumbered 2:1

"Just South of Hist where the river meets, between the split of Swamp and Farmland. Originally comprised of workers wanting to go to Hist to mine, but the Goblins already jewed them out of their mining. Hungering for opportunity, they splintered from the wagon and head further down river. There they settled on the river, between the split of Swamp and Farmlands. All right, roll a 1d3 to see what minerals you have.
1 - really minor stuff, stone, flint and such
2 - coal
3 - iron

Consider adjusting your name to either show your leader, your faction name or both in some way.
Also, shamans are worshippers of the Elements, the worshippers of the New Gods who wield their magic are considered priests.

Just pick one.
You've got magic in both cases.
Old Gods magic is simple and to the point. Flame's magic lets you manipulate flame and so on. Useful for battle. The problem is, you won't be getting any mana from the Gods(since the Old Gods are not there anymore) and will have to rely entirely on potions/sacrifices. Some humans still take this route.
The way of the New Gods will allow you to be granted mana from the Heavens. The New Gods' magic is more versatile and complex - it can strengthen the mind, heal wounds, grow crops, ward against evil, create illusions, sharpen the sences(Divata's magic does that, spells that can let you see in the dark or hear distant sounds etc.).
The Pantheon requires only prayer and does not accept sacrifice. It requires its followers to follow in its commandments.
The priesthood has a monopoly on New Gods magic. Aside from guiding local communities in prayer and serving as a link between the Heavens and the Mortal Plane, priests are granted the magic of the God they choose to dedicate themselves to.

So, choose one of the two religions.
You're the first to find new iron deposits.

Success.
Now, I'll use this to clarify things on magic.
A magical practitioner needs to know the theoretical basis of whatever magic he's practicing, the spells he will be using as well. He or she needs mana to fuel their spells. Mana is not naturally generated by living beings, it needs to come from somewhere - you either get it from the Gods, sacrifice fresh blood on the spot or you drink a potion or use some artefact that has stored a certain amount of magical energy.
Currently magic wielders are
>Shamans - keepers of lore and magic from the days of the Old Gods. While the link to the Old Gods is broken, some communities still hold respect for the Elements as they were.
>Independent mages - those who pursue their own research and power their magic through sacrifice, potions, artefacts. Sometimes also referred to as witches or warlocks, demons generally belong to this category.
>Priests - servants of the Pantheon who guide their communities in the right way and are rewarded with mana from Heaven, so they don't need potions and sacrifice. Their magic is more versatile and buff-focused rather than direct combat application, for the most part. Charodei's magic is the strongest, since that is His specialty and his priests are referred to as "Magi", since their focus is not so much on organising communities, but rather the study and practice of magic in itself.

Also, every race has a natural affinity for magic that serves as a base multiplier to the amount of mana you can gain and how easy it is for you to master magic.

Just make it look balanced.
A&B
We've studied from the priesthood of Juras and learned of more advanced ways to govern our nation. Priests of Juras also wield magic that can be used for buffing, enchantment, utility and combat, as Juras is one of the stronger Gods.

Now, to expand on B.
Currently we are an elective monarchy. After
the Dragonking's death or abdication, a Contest is held in the next spring. Any human who belongs to the Kingdom(so, not any of the vassal regions) can become a candidate with equal footing. The Contest includes trials of strength, cunning and leadership and a candidate's performance may also be supported by the endorsement of others, creating a balanced system.
The current ruler is the sixth Dragonking, Adolph of Godric, who came to power in 176 at the age of 29, so he's getting pretty old.
The Dragonking is considered supreme commander of the united armed forces of the Kingdom(the ones I list in the stats), his votes count for 2 and he may appoint others to positions in his Council. The Council must be appointed anew upon the election of a new Dragonking.
What change, if any, should we make?
A.Down with the monarchy, our nation will be ruled by the leaders of the various factions(and anons)!
B.Make the title of Dragonking hereditary, grant it to the dynasty of Godric
C.Make the title of Dragonking hereditary, but hold one last Contest to determine who deserves it
D.The system is fine as it is, no need for radical change!

Maybe the Paitras don't eat us up if I stay the Dragon King. You know so the kingdom can have stability and put them at ease. So we don't get a game over for being eaten up.

Demons bros, this Paitras is a bad thing for all of us. Since we will get a game over if they eat us. (Bad for you and me). Or they will install their own ruler in our kingdom who has more reason to purge non-humans.
So when the new thread comes up, let's solve the problem of not being eaten. Walls can only do so much. We have to make a deal with them. If it's just the Godric clan being full times kings that's way better than being eaten.
So think about it, we need to work together, because if we don't we will all fall.
We really need to show we are not against the Paitras, but the same time show we be more useful free.
So maybe if we have a permanent ruler until the Paitras Empire break up. They don't eat us since they know the Godric clan knows how to rule the kingdom and don't be against the Paitras.

I want us to stay free from the Paitras. The Dragon king doesn't want to be control by the Paitras.

The title of Dragonking shall hereby be considered a hereditary position. The current ruling dynasty is Godric.
Upon the current King's death(Adolph, born in 147) his heir will have to choose new people to the cabinet.
Since we're moving along with the years, it's probably prudent for everyone to go over to the next generation now, introduce their new, younger faction leaders(demons don't need to worry about that, of course).
A new age is coming, you can feel it.

D&F
We've worked on our equipment and tactics.
The hammer and anvil approach is good for open fields, a strong defensive core of hoplites, supported by skirmishers and archers holds the enemy in place while the cavalry can strike from the flank. We're more profficient in siege warfare as well, having developed more advanced siege machines - ballistae, onagers, siege towers, ladders, rams, underground tunneling.
With the new iron mines bronze is becoming obsolete as iron becomes widely used in armor and steel for weapons.
With the ascention of the new Dragonking, a new Cabinet must be appointed.

Tall, slender, somewhat scantily clad and by the standarts of most present - certainly beautiful. The dark elf had a raven perched on her shoulder when the guards called for her to enter the King's Hall. They could swear seeing some strange light coming out of her hand as she sent the raven off and entered.
"Greetings, my lords"The woman drops a curtsey "I am Zaluda, of the dark elves. I come from a distant land, bearing a proposal"
"You have witnessed the expansion of Paitras, the endless ambitions of those priests and nobles in Dominas. Their influence spreads far and wide and as the smallest of the remaining human nations, you would appear to be their next target. Cause for concern, I would presume. If one were to judge by your efforts in building border defences and strengthening your army, one would guess that you also distrust the Paitrians."
"Our people share those concerns. While other elves would gladly sell themselves out to Dominas, we seek to end their ambitions. For that purpose, we seek to make allies. Many have already agreed that Paitras must be stopped. You would also be wise to join our side. Soon the Hour of Reckoning will strike and Paitras will fall. It is up to you to decide if you will join them in their fall or seek to gain from it."

A ship is being prepared on the docks of Dragonstomb. Having heard of all that happened in the King's Hall, the Pontiff, Cortez II, along with some of his priests and some elite guards from the Iron Legion, are preparing to leave for the east, where they hope to inform the Kingdom of Paitras. A total of 1 High Inquisitor, 9 priests and 20 Legionnaires.
Just as they are about to depart, royal troops arrive at the harbor. The King, some of his loyal servants and 50 hoplites.
"Stop this madness, Inquisitor"
"Madness? What you are attempting is heresy!"
"We can't let you do that. Listen to reason, don't act rashly"

King & Loyalists, will you try to convince them to stop or will you attack them?
Inquisitor, Cassius, what will you do?

Jesus people. I haven't called for rolls yet.
It seems there will be blood.
The Inquisitor won't budge. He's getting aboard the ship as the King's men scramble to alert the other nearby triremes - it will take some time though.
The hoplites are marching forward across the pier, while the Legionnaires will try to hold them off to buy the priests time to escape.
A fight is inevitable!
Inquisitor and Cassius roll for your respective dudes.
Against those two rolls I want another two rolls from whoever it is that rolls against them.

Spring of 211
Progress is going about as well as hoped, most of the Shekelsburg-Silverlake section is finished.
We've had no clashes with any of our neighbours in recent years. The centaurs and orcs seem to have stopped fighting as well.
On a cold night a dark elf woman slipped past the guards and appeared in the King's Hall. She was spotted when she was already leaving. She smiled to the guard and out of her hand a strange light shone, after which she dissapeared. She left behind a scroll, on which a short message was written.
"The Hour of Reckoning approaches. The Black Walls will fall and a new age will be ushered. Remember your promise"
The Black Walls...Dominas, the capital of Paitras, is protected by walls made of very dark stone, stronger than any other walls...
That will be the end for this session. Prepare yourselves, because in this world, you either get the succ or you get the cucc.
