You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student, fifteen years old. You used to be the third woman to carry the mantle of the magical guardian of love and justice known as Sailor Moon, after your mother and older sister. A year and a half ago you had a traumatic experience fighting the corpse of the father of your best friend, struggled victory leaving you thinking you had killed the man you had set out to save and prompting you to abandon your heritage. More than that, the relating emotional collapse lead you to abandoning yourself. Developing disguises and personas to inhabit and do the things you could not in secret, to live while you let yourself wither, you carried on.

Now you know the truth and have been taking measures to put yourself back together, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. More than that you’ve been doing your best to support your younger sister, Koyomi, as she has become the fourth to carry the title as Sailor New Moon. Both directly and in secret, though now the secrets of your aid are out, and will soon be out to the rest of her young court of Sailor Guardians as well.

Interlude: I am not a clever woman…

Click...

“Bored,” you cough as you navigate your way through text menus beneath shifting faces toward a hopefully lewd outcome.

Click…

“Bored,” you mumble to yourself as your free hand snakes out to the bottle of whatever is nearest to you on your desk.

Click…

“Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooored!” you dryly groan as you slump back into the chair neither satisfied or interested in the point of view animated scene now playing before you.

The movement pulls your headphones free of your ears, letting them land in you blanketed lap with the high pitched cry of lascivious action echoing through their mesh and wire. Pulling the open bottle to your lips, you are given to slow realization that it doesn’t weigh enough and what remains barely trickles into your mouth leaving you as unsatisfied as the ero game you are now decidedly ignoring.

Tossing the bottle behind you, in the general direction of your waste basket, you twitch in annoyance. What the hell is wrong with you right now?

“What the hell,” you grumble with a hoarse and thirsty voice as you abandon the blanket and pull your t-shirt down so it falls beneath your waist.

Truthfully...everything you’ve been doing lately has soured you on a few of your games. Like, most of your crap games are crappier than usual. Good shit and games you’ve loved for years still entertain you, but tonight your gaming has seemed too mechanical. Too much being done by rote. Just going through the motions.
>>
>>429052

You know why. Running around after this whole monster mystery you can’t let go of. It has landed you more people who seem to be doing more than just tolerating your presence than you thought you could have, more friends. Between your former bully making peace and the fashionista putting you through model boot camp, your head has been spinning.

To say nothing of the shadow world you likely stand on the precipice of between what Doctor Borealis did to you, and the continuing mystery that is Chiba-san.

Closing your game, you rumble out of your room. Stumbling through the empty and quiet hall toward the kitchen, your eyes squint at the burning light of dawn streaming in the kitchen window.

“Ugh,” you moan, you must have stayed up all night again.

Just great.

Opening the fridge and pouring yourself some juice...you assess the needs of your day. If you try to sleep all Sunday, your mother will throw a fit. Since everything that’s happened she’s been really clingy with you at home. Clingier than normal since you came back. She’ll realize you were up all night playing games and you might get scolded.

Drinking your chilled drink, and picking at a stain on your shirt, you decide it is best for your sanity if you weren’t in the house...but you still want to play video games...and maybe be around people for a change.

Maybe you could even treat it as an exercise in your soon to be witchy wiles. Using the skills you’ve been learning from Akiyama-san to pass as a normal person and be cool. Downing the rest of your glass with renewed passion, you march off to the bathroom to clean up and prepare to face a lovely day. Today you’ll be the star of your very own virtual novel, and you won’t get yourself lit on fire or anything crazy today; because you aren’t going to do any work on your investigation.

Watch out world, Saori Umeki is going to be a cool and normal teenage girl!

What could go wrong?

>Interlude End

Quest Start

After you and Koyomi caught your breath, the weight of your last vision weighing upon you, the two of you set about toward the Crowne Arcade. Despite the vision of the striated face and burning crystal eyes, confirmed as having been seen by both of you in that strange instance of shared psychic experience, your sister asks you little about it. Lost in her own thoughts as pink and blonde pigtails trail behind the two of you.

It doesn’t take long to finish the run, and without any further complaining or whining from your baby sister. That both impresses you after her earlier showing on this run together and scares you.

The Arcade comes into sight around the corner, a distant number of blocks down the street. Already from here you can make out the profiles of a few people milling about the door. Likely the rest of Koyomi’s Guardians. Maybe some of your team and your invited trainer. There is a pull on your sleeve.

“Mikage-nee,” you younger sister asks with a soft voice, “Before we get over there…”

“Hmm, what is it Koyomi-chan?” you ask after your little sister.

“I know you didn’t want to tell everyone about Eclipse for a little while before today...so...maybe,” she shuffles on unquiet feet that shuffle a bit beneath her.

“Maybe?”

“Maybe, can we not tell them about this just yet,” she says worriedly pulling on her pigtails and more than likely talking about these visions she’s had because of something she took out of you with her healing powers.

>Sure, sis

Death, Doom, & Despair.
(Sorry kid.)

>>429068
>No, Koyomi, we’re putting all our intel on the table today
Nothing wrong with being a little psychic, Koyomi. Maybe you took my driving need for secrets.

>Sneak up on the girls, spook
>Write in
If our Jadeite Knight is around, a brief illusion that sets up Eclipse and Mikagr being in the same place at the same time would be a nice lead up to..
>Sneak up on the girls, sneak attack
So much noogies for Kanari. So smug in her being almost completely correct the whole time.

Or are we saving the reveal for later? If so, >>429144
Spook is fine
>>
Well, looks like we're set for Spooking. Though I'll leave the vote open for a touch longer on the current tie between fibbing and leaving it all on the table.
>>
>>429068
I like >>429197 for the 1st question and >>429144 for the 2nd.
I don't think we're revealing ourside the arcade.
>>
>>429197
It's less a driving need for secrets and more an artifact of the beginning of the quest where we were trying to be like Tuxedo Batman, but with more Batman.

Sorry for taking so long on this update, I just have to check things out to confirm this that and the other thing about today that I'm not sure were settled upon or not.

I'm honestly a bit frazzled and can't remember off the top of my head. Again sorry for the delay.

How are all of you tonight?
>>
>>429522
Getting ready for bed to be perfectly honest. Got to get up early to beat the heat for yard work.
>>
>>429522
Doing alright. Playing some D&D and checking the thread while everyone else checks for traps.
>>
>>429522
I'm alright. Quiet day mostly. Spent it watching tv except for when I went out for dinner with the family.
>>
>>429543
Funny story, I'm in a PF game right now where we're exploring some crazy Minotaur's super trap filled murder Labrynth, and our Rogue is on shaky legs after taking a few traps to the face, so my Bard (who is captain and somehow party leader) took point and has been easily disarming traps or randomly just walking straight down hallways when the mood strikes me because I've been playing him a bit like Baron Munchhausen.

If all of your party is checking for traps, they're playing it TOO carefully and not appreciating the fine dungeon architecture. FORTUNE FAVORS THOSE WITH A DEVIL MAY CARE ATTITUDE!

You turn and lay your hands on your younger sister’s shoulders, meeting her hesitant eyes with you own.

“No, Koyomi. We’re putting all our intel on the table today,” you comfort her obvious worry, “I kept secrets for too long, and with something as important as this we can’t just keep it from everyone...okay?”

She shuffles a bit and sighs. Looking back up into your eyes, she relents and nods firmly.

“Okay,” she resolves, “Does it have to come out right away?”

“We’ll save it for the briefing part of today after training,” you place a hand between her hair buns and ruffle what little loose hair exists there lightly.

“Yeah,” she starts heading toward the others in the distance, “Though I bet they’ll still be too shocked from your reveal to care too much...well, except Kanari,”

Not just Kanari, even though she only suspects you strongly. Of the young Sailor Senshi, young Rin Kumada already knew about your identity by virtue of her ability to divine future events.

Thinking quickly, with a mischievousness you are all too happy to have back in your heart these days, you reach out and stop Koyomi form proceeding toward the arcade.

“Hold on, I think I’m going to run everyone through a quick test first,” you say with an amused edge to your voice as your lips take on an ever so slight smile.

After a quick explanation of your plan, Koyomi hangs back a bit. Counting down before making her approach on the group while you step into the street and walk using the parked cars along the sidewalk’s edge as cover as you sneak your way down to the entrance of the Crowne Arcade. Hearing a familiar chopping sound you pause and ducking low between the front and rear bumper of two vehicles just before a familiar bike turns a nearby corner and rolls passed you. No doubt searching for a place to park nearby.

You had invited the small rider, Sasha, to help with some martial training today. Just as well he’s only now just arriving and hopefully intercepted by your knights before walking up to the arcade proper. It’s not odd that he’s the only traffic in this part of town, it’s still very early and on a sunday morning. No doubt the parked cars you’re using for cover belong to residents of the apartments built on top of all the retail spaces in this district.

Closing in on the entrance, you notice the four girls present.

The shortest of them has a wig of short blonde hair kept beneath a floppy and slightly oversized cap, Venus Aino disguising her appearance as a popular up and coming idol adjusts her sunglasses. Also present is the long raven haired and hauntingly graceful Kumada Rin seems lost in thought as she rummages through the sleeves of her sacrilegious skirt modified miko robes. Next to her, massaging her temples and generally looking as though she isn’t quite a morning person, with blue hair is Aiha Mizuno.
>>
>>429601

They are in order the new Sailors Venus, Mars, and Mercury; but there is one more with them. To your surprise it isn’t Kanari Kino, the new Sailor Jupiter, but instead a taller girl of confident aura and massive and voluminous dark hair. Your classmate and friend Keiko Sugimoto, the newly forged and appointed Sailor Sol.

This is odd, you muse while crouching behind a car, you would expect Kanari to be here already. She’s an athletic girl with some degree of discipline and you’d assumed a perennial early riser like yourself. You find your answer from a distant buzz and the honking of a horn from the way opposite of your and Koyomi’s approach.

Coming down the street fairly quickly is a green Vespa scooter painted with the logo of the Jupiter Cafe and an insulated box on a back custom rack. Two helmeted figures ride this casual urban conveyance, Kanari Kino and her twin brother Koito.

“Hey everyone!” Kanari cries with a bright morning energy that disturbs the studious and psychic Aiha as she brings the small bike to a stop before them on the sidewalk.

“We brought snacks for later,” Koito says as he unfastens his helmet strap from beneath his chin while Kanari pulls her own forward and down to free her ponytail.

Koito Kino, as you had earlier found, was a compatible candidate to be mentored and empowered by one of the spirits of your father’s four retainers. The Shintennou, knights of the ancient earth who feel to magical corruption and manipulation eons ago before being reborn and corrupted anew as adversaries to your father and mother in the adventure in which they first met. Much like how your friends Kairi Osaka and Midori Mori are now your Knights hosting the spirits of Nephrite and Jadeite respectively, you have offered to and are prepared to grant Koito the power and guidance of Zoisite.

Leaving you with one last lost soul of the Shintennou to shepard within yourself until you decide to whom you’ll make the offer...an issue that may no longer be as contentious to you as you thought it might be.

Still, all of them here and happily chatting. None of them have spotted you. A cursory glance down the street reveals no sign of Sasha on his Ural Sportsman Custom but you still hear its distant chopping, so he hasn’t had any luck finding a parking space. Lastly, you glance skyward, to the building tops nearby. Against the light of the sun, you see three figures on the rooftop.

Paused in debate about when to appear. Kairi, Midori, and one more to your surprise. You suppose your former teacher is going to observe how you lead a training session after all. Hotaru Tomoe, head of Infinity Academy and the Tomoe Institute, whom was your mentor as a young senshi. Sailor Saturn.

Oh well, you might as well get things started.
>>
>>429604

“Good MORNING!” your young sister cheers and draws everyone’s attention on the street down in one direction as she jogs toward them.

There had been some conversation about Koito’s presence among the girls which you had not been paying attention to; now broken and distracted by the bubbly Koyomi’s approach. It is here that you strike.

The Jump scare is a cheap trick, augmented slightly by popping out at them with your fangs drawn. Fangs born of a mutation of the enemy’s attempt to turn you into a negative emotion spreading monster. Now, instead, you have the ability to consume the negative emotions and the infectious Chaos entity taint they are spreading to others throughout the city.

“BOOOO!” you cry out with voice and fervor that matches one of your more intense formerly slivered persona’s as you send the five of them waiting by the door leaping, and in the case of Aiha grabbing at her heart in fright.

Before the shock wanes, a thrown slip of paper is thrown past your forehead. It flattens against your sister’s face behind you, causing her to shout and trip. It was a prayer strip thrown by the now petrified and eyes wide with fear Rin.

Kanari and Aiha are a touch upset with the jump scare, which you laugh off as a harmless prank. Kanari because even if the two of you are cool with one another, would never pass up the chance to scold someone about responsibility and seriousness. Aiha, not surprising, more out of concern with how silent and shaky you left Rin…

Who in fact keeps muttering to herself that she hadn’t seen it coming. This seems to have distracted them from the matter of Koito still being there and not leaving as you’re let in.

In short order, Yeon-Sek, the young man who usually manages the Crowne for its owner, arrives to let you in. Yeon already knows about all of you and related Sailor Senshi business, entrusted by the owner who is in reality a talking cat from space. Which in and of itself is a long story. One of three talking cats in your life right now.

The youngest of which, Diana, you discover asleep in your clothes and snack bag.

Entering, and knowing your Knights will be shortly behind, you consider how to start things up and reveal the truth to the girls, that you are the cloaked hero who had helped them in the past, Eclipse.

>State it casually as you enter the training room as you’re getting started
>Coordinate with Midori to fake them out part way through training

Telepathically, you reach out for Midori and Kairi as the younger girls crowd up the back of the arcade toward the Karaoke Lounges in the upstairs hallway. You hang back a bit, just in case Aiha picks up on the buzz of such radio telepathy. Or for that matter maybe your baby sister might be sensitive enough to notice it now as well. No matter, you’ll take no chances. As you grin and quietly snicker to yourself, Keiko gives you a sidelong glance and whisper.

“Just what are you planning now?” she questions with a sly curiosity of her own, “That scare wasn’t enough for you?”

“Not by a longshot,” you pause as the other girls pull ahead and you return the Sun Guardian’s conspiratorial whispers, “Because we’re pulling the big reveal with this training session,”

She nods.

“Good, I was wondering when that was going to come up,”

“What, no. Gonna reveal the truth with an amazing fake out,” you explain, “Midori’s illusions. It’ll be great,”

-The Red Eyed Beast and Miki in the Sun, by your powers combined, become Mikage the incurable prankster,- your illusory Knight yawns back over the telepathic channel.

-Midori, that’s terrible,- Kairi scolds over the channel, -Though accurate,-

You will get recompense for this later. With mischief they do not expect. Certainly not proving them right in the least.

Ahead of you, Venus-chan excitedly swipes her keycard to one of the karaoke lounges. The shimmering portal into the secret Senshi Base beneath the Crowne opens before her. One by one the girls and Koito step through the portal. Keiko and yourself aren’t far behind.

“Alright girls,” you call and set your bag down near the vanities before going over to the composite lounge, war room, training room and pressing a few buttons, “Let’s line up and get things started,”
>>
>>429823

All present, aside from Rin and Koito, are wearing exercise clothes or their school gym kits. Keiko heads up toward where you stand at the front of the room, but you gesture for her to get back in line. Much to her surprise.

As the girls lineup for whatever it is you have planned for this training session, a section of floor opens up to reveal the same kind of practice mat which features more prominently in your near to identical secret base room that is also accessible by portal within and likely underneath the Crowne Arcade.

“Today we’re going to be doing some physical and magical training exercises,” you explain, “Afterwards there will be a briefing in which I’ll share what intelligence I’ve managed to gather about the enemy, their goals, and means,”

There is a serious and somber look about all the girls, except for your younger sister who looks up at you with a certain giddy excitement before glancing back over to Kanari, to the girl’s confusion.

“To that end,” you begin with a smile as the portal at the back of the room sparks again to life drawing the attention of your Sailor Senshi to train and Koito, “I’ve invited some friends to help,”

Your ruse begins as the caped figures of Nephrite Knight, Jadeite Knight, and the mysterious hero Eclipse step through the portal. Well, not the real Eclipse. A basic illusion being created by Jadeite Knight for the purpose of this fake out and reveal.

There are of course gasps across the room. Not from Keiko, she sighs with an amused smile. Koyomi, despite some knowledge that reveal was to happen, seems caught up in the moment with the others.

“No way!” cries out Kanari as her eyes dart back and forth between you and the figure with rustling grey cape and keffiyeh before the portal.

“Whoah,” Venus-chan says in certain awe, “You guys are actually here,”

Rin says nothing, Koito doesn’t understand the full scope of what’s going on, and Aiha seems to be possessed of a more understated confusion than Kanari.

“More than that,” Jadeite Knight says as she reaches for her white mask.

“This masquerade must end,” Nephrite knight reaches for her red mask.

“That we may strike our enemy crippling blows for the safety and beauty of this blue earth,” the illusion of Eclipse says solemnly reaching for the shoulder of their cloak.

In quick succession, Midori and Kairi remove their mask to the shock of the girls who did not already know. With a flourish after their initial reaction the illusory Eclipse swirls their cloak in a flurry of rose petals to reveal...nothing.

Eclipse had vanished before them.

“Uwaaaa?” Venus-chan cries out in confused shock, “Where did Eclipse go!? PB-chan! Where-”
>>
>>429826

The youngest Senshi turns to you from the scene unfolding and stops short. Her mouth agape as she looks at you. Amid the flourish of your illusory double, provided by Midori, you summoned the Regalia of Eclipse, save for the headdress and bandana mask what had concealed your identity.

She stares a moment, before laughing to herself. This brings the attention of the blue haired girl alongside her to follow her turn. Aiha watches you with a moment of uncertainty before taking a steadying breath, a focus falls across her face not unlike the one she took when she first took up the wand of Mercury after your warning. Kanari, of the three who did not know, is the last to turn from the disappearing act.

“How is this funny? I mean what the hell! What kind of explanation was that!” she curses before stopping dead in her tracks to stare blankly at you.

She hangs there, eyes wide with a composite of confusion and frustration. An accusatory finger is pointed at you as her voice dies in her throat. You waste no time.

Cape trailing behind, you close the distance withe the girl and grab her into a loose hug and hold before you begin to give her a quick noogie on top of her auburn head.

“Thanks for keeping the spirit of scrutiny alive, Kanari-chan,” you say to the girl, “I’m proud of you for suspecting me! And the same to you, Aiha-chan!”

You spin off of the shocked girl and drape an arm over the blue haired psychic.

“Though full confession, I was planning on confiding in you about this before you directly pressed me on the matter that night,” you explain to the girl causing her expression to soften, “I’m sorry for trying to keep this from you guys for so long...but this seemed like the best idea at the time,”

“Seriously,” Midori yawns as she falls in line with the others and dispels her Knightly regalia, “I’ve been bothering her about that since she brought me into the fold,”

Koito Kino, for his part, has sat quietly in front of the vanities to observe. Uncertain about what he should be doing.

“Now,” you remove the cape from your loose fitting regalia as you return to the front of the room, “Let’s get started with some warm ups!”

The girls glance between one another, Kanari’s accusatory finger and sputtering accusations continue to follow you. Aiha, calm and brought down from whatever upset she had before your comment in pride, with a question hesitant in her throat and a hand half raised.

“Just going to leave them hanging?” Midori sighs as she pops her hip out and crosses her arms expectantly.

“Well, I guess the girls do have some questions…” you muse while taking a wide legged pose and extending your arms out either side straight, “Well we have a lot of stretches and warm ups to do so I guess we’ll multitask,”

They look at each other questioningly, save for Keiko and Koyomi, as Midori and Kairi join them on the mat and let their Knightly regalia vanish in a flurry of petals of white and red light and sparkling noise to reveal their own work out clothes.

“There’s some stuff we’ll be doing a full briefing on later,” you explain and look over the eight lined up before you, “For now everyone mirror me and I’ll answer a few questions,”

As you work through a routine for getting everyone limber, and their hearts pumping for the busy matters ahead, you select the girls in order of who you imagine has questions. Rin, the trooper she is, doesn’t seem to have anything she wants to ask as she struggles to focus on the exercises.

Kanari, Aiha, and Venus-chan all have eyes begging questions with different levels of curiosity and expression; as they take to the task of today’s warm ups with ease.

Kanari asks, still riding her frustration undercut with smugness with the reveal itself and briefly mutter about how she knew it...she just knew it, asks with poignancy if this means that you’ll be joining them with a skirt in the field as a Sailor Guardian.

And you respond with a solemn no, hand briefly snaking out to the white locket hanging beneath the loose grey short. You’ll be their ally, but for now you can’t be a Sailor Senshi.

She nods, and focuses in on the exercises. They were all briefed on what happened to you, they hall have some concept of how broken you were and maybe that’s why she doesn’t press further on it. When she spoke to you in the hospital, it was...telling.

Aiha’s singular query is about how you empowered your Knights. How did you grant Mori-san and Osaka-san the power to become Jadeite Knight and Nephrite Knight.

You explain to them as you shift to back and arm stretches about your father’s retainers, how in their state between life and death they could sense what the enemy sought for them. Unholy and controlled false resurrection. Explaining sheltering their power within you, at a minor additional straining to you mental stability, you reveal that you can entrust them to someone compatible with their power to become your own retainers. Apprenticed to the spirits, they have awakened magic of their own and have dedicated themselves to the protection of your family and the world.

“And we’re really looking forward to working alongside you girls openly now,” Kairi-chan smiles across the lineup.

“And we’re not done recruiting yet,” Midori reminds.

“That’s right,” you sigh and begin rolling your neck, “I still have two Knighthoods to bequeath,”

“And when were you planning on doing that?” Koito questions from the back as he arranges and unpacks the snacks on the war room projection table, perhaps ignorant to the holographic display he had covered with a table cloth, “Because I do have workout clothes here too and was wondering if I would be left out,”

Kanari, for all her poise and talent as a rising and young star athlete nearly trips from standing.

“What?!” she spins to face her brother, “WHAT?!”

“She offered me the chance to help,” Koito explains calmly, “After Mom had to leave, and after knowing that she, you, and Koyomi were putting yourselves in harm’s way…”

“Wait, if she already made you the offer, why aren’t you all magical already?” she questions after starring at him for a few tense moments with her jaw set.

“I wanted to talk to Koyomi about it,” he sighs and pats his twin on the shoulder, “Before I accepted the offer,”

“WHAT!” and Kanari’s attention is again spun.

“He asked me to keep it quiet,” she throws her hands up defensively.

She huffs and returns her attention back to her brother.

“You wanted to talk to her about this but not me?” she questions.

“Did you talk to me?” he asks harshly, “Or did you just storm out and make a scene when Mom told you?”

“I-” she pauses and grumbles...before calming down, “I’ll be mad about this later, just get in line so we can keep getting ready,”

With that resolved the room falls into quite exertions and time counts for stretches, exercises, and basic aerobics. The tension erased and no further questions asked...though amid the exercises Venus-chan watches you curiously. Her wig abandoned for a simple bandana.

This continues until the portal shimmers open behind them on the wall; and into the room steps the familiar dark haired figure of Tomoe-sensei, and the short and blonde Sasha.

Your teacher gives the room a smile, the younger girls ignore it and let their eyes fall on your invited assistance in combat training. They all already knew, through Koyomi, that he knew about your former and Koyomi’s current identity after the Tower, but are surprised and accusatory at his presence...save for your Knights, Keiko, and Venus.

Briefly explaining his presence, while Tomoe-sensei chimes in to say she’s just here to observe the session, you leave the girls stunned as…

“So, since Sasha was so kind to come and provide us some instruction,” you say while stepping over to the side alongside Tomoe-sensei, “Who wants to volunteer for a quick spar with him?”

“Why aren’t you going to teach us?” Kanari asks, echoing back to a few conversations you remember the distant echoes of.

“We’re doing this together,” you explain, “We have a big group and Sasha is a very strong fighter,”

“Yeah, I was invited here to help,” he exclaims and tosses his riding jacket aside, “So who wants to show me what we’re working with here?”

“Alright, you asked for it,” Kanari exclaims and begins to step forward only to be stopped by Venus-chan’s extended hand.

The younger girl looks across the training mat, and then up to Kanari.

“Please?” she asks after the taller girl, who sighs and steps back.

“Wait! You can’t just fight Venus-chan, you brute!” Koyomi sparks up as the younger girl crosses the mat to meet him.

You consider your intervening when Tomoe-sensei whispers to you.

“He told me outside about his invitation today, when I questioned why Yeon had let him in,” she explains quietly.

“Yeah, he learned the truth about me and Koyomi at the Tower,” you grouse, “Thank you for healing him then,”

“Come on, two-scoops, I’m here in good faith to help out,” he grouses, “Besides she’s the best fighter among your little cheer squad,”

“I understand you offered him one of your Knighthoods,” the older woman questions after a pause.

“HEY!” Koyomi, Kanari, and Koito yell out at once.

“He turned it down,” you say succinctly, “He’s a prideful fighter,”

“I’m familiar with the type,” she explains.

“I’m not lying,” he scoffs, “Jupiter may be the strongest, but Venus has the most talent...besides, I’m fine with this, I’ve wanted to test her skill since that staredown,”

The smaller girl is actually about as tall as the miniscule boxer. Both adopt readied fighting poses as the others quiet down. Kanari and Koyomi looks annoyed, though everyone else is looking on with interest. No doubt memories of Tokyo Tower you were absent for flit through the memories of those present.

“I see,” your teacher glances over to you before her violet eyes bore into the mock battle about to begin.

It's fast from the moment Sasha tells her to come at him. A flurry of action, Sasha leaving faster strikes while Venus makes methodical and targeted ones as she attempts to weave and dodge into his face. Sasha is obviously the more experienced fighter between them, but she manages a particularly heavy strike into his middle before they both start swinging wide. Their reach and agility seem matched, and as they break apart, Sasha nods firmly.

“Not bad,” he nods before looking over to you, “I think we should go through some forms and then pair them off for a few rounds,”

“A solid plan, did you want to go through boxing forms or anything specific?” you question stepping back forward.

“I was thinking more baseline self defense forms,” he states broadly with an authoritarian tone, “Help build on the styles established for the fighters and help catch up the one’s of you who need a stronger foundation. They’ll be relying on magic anyway, this is just to back them up,”

You help him go through a few forms and actions, laying the groundwork for the girls and then running them through drills for a bit before pairing everyone up for practice sparring.

Kairi and Midori are paired up. Rin and Venus. Koito and Kanari. Aiha and Koyomi. As the odd person out, you volunteer to spar with Keiko. Your classmate admittedly had some trouble with the drills, and you yourself are left with how to lead this spar as the others begin as well. Sasha sits in front of all of you, observing carefully, from the raised platform before the control console.

As you prepare to spar with Keiko, you decide to…

Leaving yourself open, you wait for Keiko to make the first move.

“Okay,” she says uneasily, “Let’s do this!”

Massive hair tied back, Keiko charges at you, off balance. Though she is possessed of decided grace, you move quicker and smoother. Her attempts at strikes leave her open readily and you easily close the distance.

It’s not contest between her as you as you attempt a few of your preferred moves. Tagging her lightly, you bait her into attempting more and slowly start drawing her into faster and bolder action. You aren’t going easy on her, but you also aren’t humiliating her. At least in this fight you can practice your forms...though you figure out how you’d like to finish things.

Meanwhile, you take time to gauge the rest of the matchups.

Kairi-chan is definitely losing ground against Midori; not surprising given how tricky the blonde girl fights, dirty feints and opportunistic. Kanari and Koito are matched to a degree, there is a familiarity to their fighting with one another and obvious influences of being regular sparring partners in the past; to say nothing of the fluidity and grace considering their background in capoeira.

Rin responds and intercepts before the more skilled Venus-chan even throws a punch, no doubt already having some idea of how the fight will progress and baiting the younger girl to up her game against her. The most surprising match to your cursory observations is Aiha and Koyomi.

They move in synch, aware of each other's movements as they go through forms and attempt and dodge each other’s tags and strikes. There is a slight buzz at the edge of your senses, telepathy and psychometry in action between…interesting.

Keiko manages a solid tag against you, and given how long the matches have been going you decide to see how she handles a trip.

Sweeping wide and low, catching her off guard, you trip her and throw her to the mat. To your surprise, her landing is slow after her feet are taken out beneath her.

In the air, she was as light as a feather.

“Sorry, it's kind of automatic,” she offers with a laugh as she drifts to the ground.

You and Sasha trade off a few times displaying martial forms, speed to action, how to react, and continue pairing up and having everyone go through those motions. After a while, it's time for a break.

Time for a formal induction into the Royal Guard with everyone present.

>>
Though before all of that…

“Koito,” you say as you set down your water after finishing a few bits of snacks.

“Hmm, yes?” he looks up from refilling everyone’s cups with something cool from one of the thermoses he and Kanari brought.

“Up next is magic, so before that practice starts you need to have the power to practice with,” you explain as you rise and walk toward the center of the room.

As he gets up to follow you, all of the eyes in the room do so as well. One stands.

“Koito,” Kanari says with a serious face as she and her brother hold a stare between each other before she smiles smugly, and competitively, “You better keep up,”

He smiles at that.

“What was that you said about meeting your heroes?” he replies prompting her to huff in embarrassment.

Bringing the green and red stone to the surface of your hand, Koito approaches you while the shadow of Zoisite extends behind you.

<So this is it,,> the ponytailed spectre sighs, before turning a soft word to the other silent shadow behind you, <Until we see each other again, Kunzite,>

The white haired phantom hiding in your shadow nods, solemnly, while the other smiles.

<You will come into this power, Koito,> Zoisite turns his smile to the boy before you, <And I am proud for the chance to guide you,>

“Koito Kino, do you understand what is being asked of you? Fealty to the protection of the world and the combined lines of Elysion and the Silver Millennium?” you offer while standing proudly before the others.

“I understand...I’ll fight to protect this world, to protect that family,” he nods firmly as the stone, red and green, floats above your hand.

Closing the distance between the two of you, you clasp the stone into one of his hands as he is consumed in light. When it clears, the stone is on a bracelet on his arm and he is clad in white with an elaborate armored pauldron and a gray mask across his eyes.

“Then I name you my Zoisite Knight,” you say with some occasion and pride as you then turn to the rest of the room, to see your little sister staring at the boy with stars in her eyes, “And now would all of you please circle up. We’ll be meditating on your powers, on your connection to magic, or even the planetary powers that protect you,”

Turning toward the console, you lower the light in the room and activate a low white noise.

“This isn’t about falling asleep,” you explain further, “It's about exploring yourself, I imagine a few of you will take to this more easily than others, but there is something to be gained from this exercise regardless for the next few hours,”

“I guess that’s my cue,” Sasha says as he picks up his riding jacket and begins toward the door.

“Hold on!” you call after him as he shrugs the jacket onto his shoulders, catching his attention as he spins to face you, “I need you to stay for the briefing,”

“Then I can just wait for that to start by hanging around out in the arcade,” he says with a blunt certainty.

That won’t do, you’d rather not have your authority or guidance shirked like that in front of everyone. Sasha is a fighter and all about his own ability, surely he’d understand the benefits of expanding his mind and focus in a fight.

“Or maybe you could just try meditating,” you offer again, “It’s beneficial, documentedly so, even for people who aren’t supernaturally inclined. Tons of great fighters use it as a tool to improve their focus in the heat of combat,”

“I keep my head in a fight just fine,” he deadpans and rolls his eyes, before again turning to the door, “I don’t truck too much in trying out new age spirituality or old world zen; I have my instincts and I don’t think that path is the one I need to follow to improve,”

Across this exchange, young and impressionable eyes have been flitting back and forth to soak in the drama.

“His sister is literally a ghost,” Aiha whispers over to Venus-chan, who was not present for the earlier ghost hunt.

“We helped track her and forced her to reveal herself to him,” Rin confirms, “And that new age comment was kind of insulting,”

“I dunno,” Kanari grouses, “I kinda agree with that kind of action oriented focus...except that this may help me manage more lightning,”

Ignoring that for now, you know there may be only one way to get him to try this out.

“Alright, fine. I get it,” you say with a huff.

“Good, just come grab me from the Arcade when this briefing is supposed to st-”

“I mean if you’re afraid of expanding your mind and maybe learning something about yourself, who am I to stop you,” you shake your head as your hands find your hips against the loose fabric of your desert robes.

The room falls quiet, save for the rhythmic white noise being generated by the console behind you.

“Really?” he grouses and crosses his arms, “We’re going there?”

Your face creases into a dangerous smile. A goading and teasing one, reminiscent of your time as the Red Eyed Beast.

“I thought you were going into the arcade,” you shrug.

“Maybe we don’t need to escalate this,” Kairi-chan offers.

“No,” Sasha says succinctly and marches back to the mat and joins everyone as they had circled up, “It’s escalated. I’m doing this,”

“Are things always this tense?” Koito asks toward Kairi, only for his expression to change assumedly in conversation with Zoisite, “That seems worse,”

After taking a moment getting everyone into basic technique; and leaving them to their own explorations in different directions. Your Knights, now three strong, aided by their mentors. Rin already has a grounded concept of meditation, as do Aiha and Venus. Koyomi, Kanari, and Sasha you find need the most base instruction before they get started. With those matters tended to you head over to Tomoe-Sensei for some hushed conversation.

“So, how am I doing?” you question of the older woman as she leans against the wall, “as a teacher?”

She hums to herself, lightly, and then offers a quick nod.

“So far so good,” she thinks, “You have a knack for leading a class for certain. Have you given thought to being a teacher before?”

“Well no...honestly I haven’t given much thought to that before,” you admit.

“Something to think about then,” she says before turning her eyes back to the group, “Have you been eating?”

You watch as they sit, the subtle shine in the dim emitting from your Knight’s baubles. Aiha’s clothes rustling as she sits motionless in the still air. Kanari’s bangs and ponytail beginning to stand on end. Visual distortions and heat radiating off of Keiko. Rin and Venus sitting with perfect stillness. Sasha’s brow creased in concentration.

“You just saw me- oh,” you shrug in mild realization, “Not since before the weekend started...at least not properly. I doubled down on Earth Power, claiming a new intersection of ley lines,”

“That’s not the same,” she chides, “You need to feed with some regularity while you’re still afflicted like this,”

“...I know...I just haven’t…” you admit, “I need another enemy attack or someone to be really upset,”

“See that you do,” she says firmly, “I worry,”

Your eyes settle on your little sister. There is an uncertain expression on her face as she rocks a bit while breathing...but then it relaxes. Almost eerily.

>No, you sounded a bit mad. May I?

“No, you sounded a bit mad,” you tear your eyes away from your eerily relaxed sister and gauge your teacher, perhaps accurately as a thought strikes you to both settle her reason for upset and mute its impact upon her, “May I?”

She looks back to you quickly, the bob cut framing her face swaying into place but a second after. There is a look of scrutiny crossing her face, but it relaxes with a sigh as she pulls back the sleeve of her ever present white jacket and rolls up the sleeve of her blouse to more cleanly expose her wrist.

“If I didn’t think it an incredibly dangerous idea,” she says quietly, “I would suggest you hold out until we got back to my lab for a sampling of Queen Kalyke before you and Koyomi purify her,”

You pause amidst taking hold of her forearm and hand to balance where you plan to bite her wrist. Turning back to her, you muse.

“Actually, I was debating asking about that,” you laugh quietly, “Is it the concentration of the Chaos taint?”

“That, and,” she sighs in frustration as her free hand lands upon her temple to massage lightly, “I worry that kind of stimuli to her mental activity might cause her to awaken in some form,”

That...would not be good.

“Ah, alright then…” you consider before taking a sharp breath, “Thank you for the meal,”

Your fangs pierce, or rather phase, through her skin and tap into the decadent and complex wellspring that is your mentor’s emotional state. Certainly there is a mild anger and frustration on the surface, but they are flavors you quickly parse as you again gain the wonderful and deep potential of her tumultuous past and tortured feelings.

“Shhh,” she warns in a cool voice against your pleased hum as she press a forefinger against your forehead, tilting it up and pulling your fangs free of her, “I think that should be quite enough for now,”

There is uncertainty here, between her voice being the result of her practiced ice or the numbness granted by your ability after a sufficient feeding.

“Sorry Tomoe-sensei,” you offer an apology through a clear smile and then stop yourself.

You almost told her that she was delicious. Honestly that might be too much for her to hear and it would just make the moment between you awkward. Or at least more awkward than it could be.

It was a good meal, you’ll leave it at that and unspoken. In this moment you really just want to see if you can have a normal conversation with Tomoe-sensei before the briefing. Though you’re left to reach for topics of discussion, especially avoiding things to be brought up for the briefing.

“So,” you ask her quietly over the intermittently distorted hum of the white noise over the room speakers, “How’s being an administrator?”
>>
>>433504

It’s a rather lame question, and a soft one at that, but better than some other things you might want to ask after from her. Given her relationship with your big sister Usa, she might not appreciate being asked for advice over your own cascading relationship situation. Best not to.

“Its involved,” she reasons, “but I think it’s going well. Rebuilding the Infinity Academy has had its highs and lows, but I think I’ve generally enjoyed making it a real place of learning rather than the vile front it was first used for,”

You nod solemnly, a prickling feeling dancing across your skin.

“Mhmm,” you hum in response.

“How are your studies going?” she ventures in an uncharacteristic awkwardness, at least as far as you’re familiar with, “I understand you’ve been readjusting to being social in school?”

“They’re going fine. Literature and History are still my best subjects, but I’m not falling behind anywhere,” you explain and then it’s your turn to sigh, “I’m making friends, though a bit worried that I’ll just draw them into the insanity,”

“How do you mean?”

It feels like the hairs on the back of your neck are standing when she says that.

“Well, that we don’t get normal lives,” you express, “I’m worried that’ll spillover and affect the normal people in my life,”

Even if those normal people are also incredibly abnormal, though you keep that comment to yourself.

“Normalcy comes as you choose to define it,” Tomoe-sensei offers with a tired voice as she rolls down her sleeve, “And when you define it, expect it in measured bursts,”

Not really something to look forward too. You shift your position against the wall, as your loose grey robes cling to your torso and back.

Wait.

Your eyes are drawn across the room, to where Kanari sits. The amusement presented by her standing wild hair is undercut as you catch a glimpse of crackling blue arcs sparking across her frame and hair. There is electricity in the air, quite literally and carried on Kanari Kino’s shoulders.

Before you can get a word out about this, the sensation dies on your skin. The hairs loose their rigidity on the back of your neck. And your clothes cease their sudden desire to cling to your frame tightly.

Even the white noise ceases in that sudden stillness. Before her eyes open as glowing blue in the dim light before a white hot flash consumes the room with the quaking of thunder at it’s heels.

Concerned sure. I'm just slammed at work and still in a daze in general.
Kanari seems to have unlocked or tapped into a deeper well and I look forward to learning more.

Oh snap, I wonder if Jupiter's palace is running already?

My train of thought was running through permutations of what could be tapped into, trailing through the thought that Sailor Jupiter's power phrases call on/out to Lord Jupiter more strongly than most, then wondering why this moment to connect THEN remembering that the reason to draw the Senshi out there was to reactivate the celestial palaces, allowing them to draw on their world's true starseed instead of just their own (whereas the guardians of old had primarily had the transmitted energies and not as nearly robust personal starseeds iirc).

So if a palace were online then I imagine this is a lot like what making that connection would look like.
I wonder if even her mother has tapped into it yet?

I think tired players can't respond well. I crashed shortly after rushing a vote post through thinking I was running out of time, then remembering I'd already done one before new distractions. Serious fried tofu for brainstuff. "Oh, Kanari is glowing, perfectly standard." But in the post work some neurons are firing now.

Also,

Thanks for the run!

You are quite welcome.

and yeah, neurons seem to be sparking in fact.

Random amused thought:
Imagining the young senshi running all over the world in a few years, hunting Pokemon with Go.

I also like that many of these youthful versions seem a lot like the current roster.

Yeah, went digging around and really dug these.
Sites are crediting them to "Azure and Copper" in honor of the new games being announced, but linking to a page that does not seem related.

Hey, found a live site that seems to be right:

You know, remove the leggings, add heels and a deep tan, and it reminds me of Miki.

I just hope that was on our attempt to talk him into it and not the meditations.

For the civilization thread of conversation: Egypt?

For the Steven Universe Thread of conversation: Bismuth felt wronged by the circumstances of her existence and responded and retaliated in kind. It wasn't about protecting another world for her, but her own grudge against the Diamond Authority and their artificial nature as a species to conquer worlds. You know what things are starting to remind me of, The System from Megaman Legends. That artificial life forms overthrew or outlive their creators and the administration units just carried on.

I think you missed your target thread.
Legends was some great stuff though.

I did at fucking that. I blame mobile interfaces and not paying close enough attention as I composed a thought.
